Updated on 06/29/2020: Hello, still waiting for Laura or someone at a Mohawk to get back with me. On May 7th she indicated they would help me with next step on claim as installer/flooring company refused to file a claim. Please contact me.

Original Review: My previous laminate was also Mohawk and totally loved it. After my home was flooded I replace with supposedly a better Laminate Rev Wood. Worst product ever, wish I had read reviews. Not only does it scratch terribly but I have had repeated issues with edges and seams “lifting”. Have had to have installer out twice due to seams opening up. At Thanksgiving time my daughter dropped the Bona floor cleaner on the floor, I immediately wiped up all of it within a few minutes. The next morning I came downstairs and I have 4 damaged raised edge boards. So much for 30 min water resistance, this happened in minutes. There was another area in dining room where board edges looked warped and had never come in contact with any liquids.

I called the installer who came out and had to order 3 boxes of laminate to repair both areas. I emailed Mohawk twice and called 3 times. All I ever get is contact installer to file claim. Installer doesn’t want to file claim as he says they send out their reviewer who pretty much blames it on installer and won’t replace. Even if the darn floor is blamed on installer that doesn’t take away from the point that edges are getting damage without any liquid every hitting them. Have had other brands laminate floors and like I said another Mohawk scraped wood laminate product that was pretty much indestructible. This crappy floor scratches, at joint points seems raised and some areas random edges warped looking.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Kathy, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring. I sincerely apologize for your experience with your flooring. I understand you have reached out previously to our team, and been asked to have your retailer file a claim for you, as the claim is something your retailer has to file on your behalf. I also understand from your comments here that your retailer has not filed the claim. I will send you more information on next steps - I apologize again for your experience.

We had floors in Mohawk before and I had a few left, and so I wanted more of it. We got a different Mohawk this time, the blended tones flooring. The one who sold them to me was very helpful .Everything has been very good and the installation process was very easy.

I got carpet through Mohawk Flooring for my living room. I had a good experience during installation. Plus, I like the quality of the carpet that was put in. It was thick. Last year, I had my sister put in carpet with the same company.

We have a major issue with the product from Mohawk and they do NOT support or warrant their product. Our flooring was damaged during a toilet overflow in late 2019. The insurance company came out and agreed to pay for a new floor and we hired a company called Marquis Floors out of Lilburn, GA. They offered a product from Mohawk (product number WSC-47-62) called Oak Winchester.

They brought it out to install and the product was defective from the start. They acclimated the product for 4-5 days in our dining room. They then installed it and right out of the gate, it did not look right. It already looked like it was cupping. I took pictures AS they were installing it and to show that it did not look right. I thought that maybe it would relax, but it never did.

We reported an issue for 4 months to Marquis Floors before one of their reps finally came out. They were surprised that it was this bad out of the gate and put in a claim to Mohawk Industries. Without even sending out an inspector, they denied the claim. WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT! Marquis reached out to their rep who finally got Mohawk to re-open the claim and send out an inspector. The inspector came out a month after the initial rejection and then proceeded to do his inspection and asking me tons of questions. Long story short, he turned in a report that was full of inaccuracies and false information.

1) He indicated in the report that I told him that we noticed the problem a "few months after installation", which is NOT true. I showed him the photos of the problem AS it was being installed. He agreed and even asked me to send him the photos to his personal cell. He conveniently left out that detail and made it look like the problem didn’t occur until a few months later. 2) He claimed that the crawl space underneath was too humid. A crawl space that has moisture proofing professionally installed AND an active dehumidifier running 24/7. Plus there was wood flooring already installed in that area of the new install that had been there for decades over the exact same crawl space.

3) He noted holes in the floor and indicated in the report that I told him and confirmed that holes he noticed were "pin-probe" holes. We never had any discussion about holes. This conversation was completely fabricated. 4) He indicates that the front entry foyer (that still has the original flooring) was also cupped. There is no cupping in the front foyer area at all. This is also fabricated. 5) He also made a point to state that you should never mop wood floors, which is also not true. If it gets mopped due to mud or heavy dirt, it is lightly mopped with a wring mop. Additionally, almost all home improvement sites have instructions showing you how to mop wood floors. Some examples:

Home Depot
**
Better Homes and Gardens
**
Today Show

**

6) No tests were done to the home prior to installation to see if there were any problems that would cause the flooring installation to be an issue. 7) If this inferior product was some sort of pansy flooring that couldn’t bear to be lightly mopped, no care instructions were ever offered or provided for its special level of care.

All this being said, AVOID MOHAWK FLOORING PRODUCTS AT ALL COSTS. Their wood floors are extremely inferior and can’t even be cleaned properly. Ours were damaged and cupped right out of the box and when you spend $7000 for flooring and to have them treat you like you are worthless and crazy even with photographic proof is unprofessional and shows their complete lack of concern for their customers.

The fact that they rejected a claim without even looking at what the problem was says volumes and the inspector was almost certainly in their pocket and hired to produce a report that would support a 2nd rejection just to say they went through the motions. Especially when the report was full of fabricated conversations. SHAME ON MOHAWK INDUSTRIES for taking advantage of customers and lying to protect their bottom line and refusing to stand behind their product. Every person that comes into my home and asked what’s wrong with the floor, I immediately tell them it’s a Mohawk product that was damaged that they refused to take responsibility for.

The flooring I bought is fantastic. We got a Pure Breeze carpet. We had it installed and it was fantastic. We had a 5x8 pad underneath it. It's in our basement so it's got concrete underneath it. But it's extremely soft and we love it. There were a couple of things that led to our decision to pick this one. We were looking for grey tones and there were a lot of browns and tans and things of that nature that we didn't want. We were drawn to the color and the options that Mohawk had. The place where we went to offered a large sample at no cost. A lot of times, there were places that were making us pay 25 bucks to just take the sample home. It looks great against the wall and all the colors that we had.

We couldn't be happier with the carpeting from Mohawk. When we walked into the store, it was on display and I just walked right to it. I said that's the one I want. We had the two bedrooms installed with it.

I’ve had an awful experience with Mohawk carpeting. The carpet has pulls and looks old and worn.. The owner of the store we bought it from came to look at it and agreed that it looked awful. He contacted Mohawk and they sent out a representative. Mohawk concluded that the damage was from our two small/medium-sized dogs. However, we have had carpeting in several other parts of the house for much longer than our master bedroom carpet. Our dogs spend more time on the basement carpet, my home office carpet, and my daughter’s bedroom carpet than in the master bedroom. The other carpets have no pulls at all and look much better even though they are older. The Mohawk carpet was specifically supposed to be good for pets and yet it is the worst looking and needs to be replaced. I am so disappointed with Mohawk and their “independent: inspector."

Mohawk Flooring response
Hello Judi, I'm Laura from Mohawk - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. When a claim is declined based on an inspection, you can have the claim reopened by having a second inspection done: you would hire an inspector and have them assess your carpet and send their report to Mohawk. The inspector should be certified by either the NICFI or the IICRC:
http://www.nicfi.org/Search.aspx
https://www.iicrc.org/page/IICRCGlobalLocator

On both sites, you can find your nearest certified flooring inspectors. They usually have a wide radius of service. You or the inspector can send the report to consumer@mohawkind.com. I apologize again for your experience.

The construction manager for our remodel helped us coordinate a lot of things and he was familiar with the Mohawk product and their local dealer, which I wasn’t aware of. He managed the installation of the flooring and brought the crew, so it went smooth. They moved our furniture around to get the flooring installed and worked well. They put in luxury vinyl plank throughout the living area other than the bedrooms in my home and we were happy with the results.

We moved in and had every room of carpet replaced by what we were told was going to be the best choice for us and our dogs. We spent nearly $8000 on the carpet to have it look terrible in less than 6 months. The carpet has loose fuzzy strands pulling up in our main living area. We bought this carpet for their “amazing warranty” only to find that the inspector Mohawk commissioned wrote a report telling us it’s probably our vacuum- a CRI certified vacuum is what we use. The company we bought from is “busy” and hasn’t called back and Mohawk can’t give a straight answer as to why this happened. I don’t know how you can blame a vacuum for only one living area of damage? I vacuum my whole house with it. Why wouldn’t it be everywhere?

There is an abrasive wear and pet warranty that mean nothing. You can’t see the pattern of the carpet in the damaged areas at all and no one seems to care at Mohawk. “Find another adjuster to say it’s manufacturing defects and we will gladly replace it.” I don’t need a CRI inspector to tell me that this is a huge defect localized to one area of our home. If was vacuum why isn’t it everywhere? If it is us or the dogs, why isn’t it everywhere? It’s literally one room but Mohawk just shrugs and says “well, sorry ma’am.”

Why have warranties if they mean nothing? “Bearding” of our carpet only in one room must be our fault. Even the inspector had no idea why or a good explanation. “Might be the vacuum?” Like I have a different vacuum for each room of my house and this one just so happens to be the unlucky room? So, Mohawk, since you respond to customer reviews, please explain this to me. We have new carpet that is a horrible eyesore and no explanation why every other part of our house still looks fine or a solution because it seems that no one actually cares about the customer in need.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Kathryn, thank you for your response and the opportunity to assist you, and I'm very sorry again for your experience. If one of the inspectors you've reach out to has reviewed your carpet can provide us with their report, we would be glad to reopen the claim. We just need the report from the new certified inspector that you've commissioned. That inspector just needs to be certified by either the NICFI or the IICRC. You or the inspector can send the report to consumer@mohawkind.com and the claim will be reopened. I apologize again for your experience.

We were trying to match an existing Mohawk Flooring which has been there for four years. I had a box and the reps put the leftover stuff in the attic, which was how I knew what that was. We've had scratches in a couple of spots on the floor from dropping things but it has been fine. It’s a good floor.

I’m currently having a terrible experience with Mohawk. I would not recommend them to anyone! I purchased a Mohawk carpet from Lowe’s in November (so I would have it done in time for the holidays). Within a week the carpet began pulling everywhere. I immediately went back into Lowe’s and filed a claim. Now 6 weeks later I have gotten nowhere. Every time I call it’s a different excuse. It’s busy due to the holidays, they lost my paperwork, they need pictures (even though I have an email saying they received the pictures). The carpet is hideous! Looks terrible. I’ve never dealt with a company that has more excuses than standing behind their product! Don’t waste your money with Mohawk! I give their customer service 0 stars as well as their product. P.S. 2 weeks later I purchased another carpet for a different bedroom from a different manufacturer... It’s beautiful and holding up wonderfully.

We spent about $10,000 on Mohawk materials. The finished look was beautiful but we were appalled to see the immediate and dramatic change in color with contact with indirect sunlight. (It also scratches very easily.) We’ve had the floor just two years but it already looks about 20 years old. Although it’s reasonable to expect there to over time be some changes, these changes are extrême and make it impossible to ever change furniture placement. So disappointed to invest in an American company only to find substandard quality.

Our carpet was installed August 7th 2019. Noticed it looks matted like a 10 year old cheap rental carpet in a few places already. Called Company we purchased from and they filed complaint with Mohawk who said first we must have carpet professionally cleaned. Then if still unsatisfied they will send inspector out. Ridiculous that they want you to pay more money when they are well aware their smart strand corn carpet was obviously never properly tested and fails miserably as a residential carpet. They should remove it from the market immediately and offer a replacement carpet of tried and true performance carpet made from something other then corn. My husband has terminal cancer and is on chemo to try and live a little longer so you can imagine how ridiculously rude and infuriating Mohawk’s suggestions are this is at this time. Very dissatisfied with this company and the so called "great warranty" they offer. We ordered carrier for our living room and our stairs through a local flooring company and picked out a great carpet and thick padding to be installed, little did we know by year 6 the boards of our stairs would be showing through this "great Mohawk carpet" we purchased. Called the installation company who came out and it was reported to us that it's not covered because we did not get our carpet professionally cleaned twice a year???? Ummm what?!? The stains that are in our carpet are not the problem, the see through wood spots on our stairs is the problem!! This coming wants to make a quick buck and NOT STAND BE THEIR PRODUCT.

My experience with the carpet company was fine. My experience with the Air.O carpeting is not. It feels like you are walking on boards, not carpeting. I understand there is a 10 lb pad attached to the carpeting; however, the carpeting has no substance and does not provide any support. One of the reasons we chose this carpeting was because we walk barefoot in the house. However, we can no longer do so because it hurts our feet. What a total disappointment.

We recently purchased your Karastan Smart Strand Delicate Path carpet. While we are so far very happy with your product, we are disappointed that at no time during this process were we advised by the retailer that our current vacuum cleaner may have an issue with this carpet. After installation we attempted to use our very nice Shark to vacuum and had the same problem many other people have had with other quality manufacturers of vacuums. Suction and proximity to the floor made it difficult to use. Researching for hours about this it appears Soniclean the company you have "partnered" with is the answer to this problem.

After reading many reviews about the Soniclean SFC-7000 most had the exact same problem. Forced to purchase a new machine. No review I read stated that any retailer advised them about this issue. Hmmm. Frustrating. Seems to me that since you are well aware of this issue, ALL of your retailers should be instructed to inform the consumer about this, the limited options and expense of a vacuum that will work on and not damage your product. Since you have partnered with Soniclean and it is your recommended machine do you think it would be good customer relations to inform the consumer at point of sale about this? I do.

New customers as well as past customers (within a reasonable time) should receive a rebate offer on the purchase of this recommended machine. I do plan on purchasing this machine as we really have no other choice. I will be posting a review that will be an honest assessment of the machine and the problem with retailers not advising customers about the necessary expense of a new machine.

I sent this to Karastan and this was the response. "Thank you for your Karastan purchase. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your experience. Our retailers are independently owned and operated and we do provide care and warranty information for our products to them, and expect them to pass this information along to their customers. We are sorry your retailer did not discuss the care of your new carpet with you, but your feedback is important to us and we have shared it internally as we strive to improve our processes so that the purchasing experiences of our customers are positive ones. Again thank you for purchasing Karastan carpet and for taking the time to contact us. Shanna Karastan Customer Service"

We got the Karastan carpet for a master bedroom and a family room from Mohawk. We had brought many samples home, and got that brand because it’s described as a SmartStrand which is supposed to be very resilient to dirt, marks and trackings. The carpet feels good under the feet. It was delivered in a decent time, and installation went good. We’ve used the same installer many times in the past and we were happy.

I am very happy with my Mohawk Grandwood vinyl plank flooring. I chose the color Brown Sugar & we installed the flooring in the main level of the house. It's easy to clean and it looks beautiful! We have only had it for a short time but no scratches from us or our 65Lb doodle. The doodle scratched up our hardwood flooring so decided to go with something more durable. I had trouble finding reviews on this flooring so wanted to make sure I wrote a review to hopefully help others.

Hard to believe that a company with a (formerly) good reputation does not stand behind their area rugs. We have had strands shedding for two years I thought it would stop, but it hasn’t. I contacted the company and was blown off. They said no warranty for area rugs. I checked the warranty on their website—buried in 20+ pages of confusing exclusions and some inclusions, is a statement that area rugs are not covered. Most people would never notice this in all the wonderful words about long warranties and carpets and rugs for page after page of company blah, blah. It was like reading a credit card agreement. If you buy from them, it is worse than a crap shoot. At least with dice, you can sometimes win.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Gene, I'm Laura with Karastan. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your rugs. Our rugs do carry warranties, up to 20 years on certain wool rug styles. All non-wool rugs carry at least a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. On the PDF of the Karastan warranty brochure, linked below, please see pages 14 and 15, "Karastan Rug Warranty Details."

It's possible you're referring to the exclusion that states that area rugs are not covered by the broadloom (wall-to-wall) carpet warranties. However, area rugs are covered by the area rug warranties.

Please let me know how I can assist, and I apologize again for your experience.

We decided on the pattern and the color, and everything we liked, and Mohawk happened to be that brand. And we’re perfectly satisfied with it. The flooring was installed in the bathroom and in the living room. The quality is very good so far. The cost was comparative to anybody else. And we dealt with this particular carpeting store for a number of years in different locations, and always satisfied with the install and any kind of issue we’ve had in the past. Cassandra was the person we dealt within the store and she was very good. She came over the house and we discussed a lot of things. We had a good choice of different patterns, and she took the time with us. The installers did a good job and they were thorough. At this point, I have no issues at all.

We purchased the Smart Strand carpet for our bedrooms. I had read that some vacuums don't work for the carpet prior to purchase, but was told all I needed was a vacuum with height adjustment. WRONG! We own two vacuums which neither works with this carpet. I sent an e-mail to Mohawk and really didn't get any help at all. They referred me back to the website where I cannot find which vacuums work etc. Do your homework before purchasing this carpet.

We got some LVT flooring installed in my mother-in-law's living room and dining room from Mohawk. She liked the color of it and the way it felt. I installed it myself since I'm a carpenter, and laying it was pretty easy. Cutting it with a jigsaw around corners it melted every single blade I used per cut. But I would never make that transition piece to cover the T-molding again. It sticks up really high and is a tripping hazard. It’s just a chunk of plastic. I wouldn’t put it in anybody’s house. I actually threw it away and went to Home Depot to get a different type that worked a lot better.

We ordered about 2200 sq feet of flooring, and paid for delivery to our home. Upon delivery, the flooring was not the same as the sample we have. It seems that the Mohawk sample was mislabeled. This by itself would not have been a big deal, but we are now going on close to two weeks, and the only resolution that has been presented by Mohawk is that we can pay to have it shipped back to the warehouse, and they will waive the restocking fee (only if we buy Mohawk again).

Since the wrong floors have been delivered based on a Mohawk sealed sample, we are contesting the charges with our credit card company. In the interim, our home is in complete disarray. When you spend tens of thousands of dollars on a product, the company should at a minimum have some sort of concept of customer service, especially when the error falls on them. You have many options when purchasing your flooring, I would advise you to stay clear from this company. I cannot comment on the quality of the flooring since we cant even get past the horrific management/customer service.

The Reps and Mohawk Company intentionally dupe you into thinking RevWood flooring is an Engineered Hardwood floor when it is in fact a Laminate floor (that cannot be glued down). They avoid saying Laminate because they want you to buy it but it has exactly the same problems as every other laminate flooring- noise. It is extremely loud, sounds just like its Pergo predecessor. This floor is beautiful but I am telling you- DO NOT buy this if you don’t like the sound of laminate. There is absolutely nothing you can do to eliminate the loudness of this floor!

Mohawk Flooring response

We looked at a number of stores and we settled in on Mohawk, both for reputation and warranty, as well as the design, style and color of their carpet. We had it put in our finished basement and it fit what we were looking to do from a quality standpoint. We were looking for a soft carpet and for something that would be comfortable to walk on in bare feet. We were also looking for a color and pattern that would work well in our area. The other thing we liked was the smart strand which is what they called the product. Plus, Mohawk's carpet had the stain resistance. Its cost was a tad higher than we really wanted to spend, but we felt it was worth going ahead and paying the difference. We've been very happy with the installation, too. The crew from the store did a great job and all in all, we were pleased with the purchase.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi David, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring - I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your experience! I'm really glad to hear that you've been pleased with your SmartStrand carpet, its quality and comfort as well as the beauty it adds and its built-in stain resistance. I hope you enjoy your carpet for years to come! Thank you so much for choosing Mohawk carpet for your home.

We just got our carpet done from Mohawk and my wife and I noticed pretty quickly that the carpet that was installed was a different color than what we had purchased. We had purchased grey mountain which is grey obviously and the carpet that was installed was slippery rock which looks more blue. We noticed this due to the samples that we still had. The second the contractors left we knew something was off.

Mohawk were having a special, so I went with them. Their price was my favorite. I purchased carpeting for my living room, hallway and three bedrooms. I’m not sure, however, if it’s the carpet or if it is the padding, but it does not feel as padded as the old carpeting that came out. The carpet in the den is more padded than this. Apparently, the padding matters. If someone asked me about Mohawk, I'd tell them to spend more money on a different pad versus their standard pad. Nevertheless, the overall experience with them was fine.

We installed a carpet in our basement, and we matched what we had upstairs. We built the house two years ago and in that two-year span, the company we went through said there have been 15 different colors of winter flannel. That made it difficult, so choosing the color wasn’t the easiest part. We took a swatch in and the people down at that company were great and did a lot of research for us. They dealt directly with Mohawk and figured it out. The installation crew also came through the company, and the quality of the carpet is decent. We wished we had a little bit more of a cush to it, but other than that, I like the colors and it looks good with the color scheme for our house.

Mohawk Flooring may claim to be the “global floor leader” all they want, in the end it’s just a floor manufacturer with a lack of customer service. We have always used Mohawk as our preferred floor manufacturer of choice - for our personal home and rental properties. So for our new house, we obviously decided to go with Mohawk LVT. Floor came in for installation 9/3. Contractor opens the box only to find wood was a different color - labeling is correct to the color we ordered. Contractor called rep Mike and was informed Mohawk will overnight the new material (arrival 9/6). Well, they did overnight it....a sample book instead of the actual floor material! This means I have to postpone my move-in for another week!

All services scheduled for post-home renovation had to be reschedule for the second time and because we are on a very tight deadline, we emphasize the need to have floor in place by Saturday 9/14. Mohawk’s rep Mike “said” he will try to get the material on truck for delivery Thursday 9/12....well that didn’t happen. Right now I’m looking at floor delivery on 9/16 and based on my experiences with the last three debacle I highly doubt it will happen. If Mohawk really claim to be a “global floor leader”, at least make sure your customer service is on par on a global level or ensure your reps are trained with a level of professionalism equivalent to your competitors. So far I have not seen a sincere apology for the lack of customer service and the inconvenience this has cause to the consumer and shareholder.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Lisa, this is Laura with Mohawk Flooring again - I'd just responded to your post on another site. I just wanted to say here as well that I'm very sorry for your experience with your order, and I apologize for the issues. The rep your contractor spoke with is working to get you the correct material. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of this delay, and I apologize again for your experience.

I had Mohawk carpet installed in the family room. The sales clerk and the installers have been very helpful. They have all been thoughtful, too. The installation went well. I got a gray with beige and browns in it, but it has been brighter than I thought. Nevertheless, it is very nice and I like it. Mohawk has done a nice job.

I read good reviews about Mohawk Flooring, and they had nice carpets. We ordered some carpet and quality-wise, it is very nice. It was easy to find the color and style we were needing. It took a little while to make a decision, but that was our issue. Our experience has been good so far.

My wife and I purchased a new construction home in August 2017. We had Mohawk SmartStrand carpeting installed and did everything to keep the warranty requirements. In July 2019 we filed a claim due to the separation of the primary and secondary backing of the carpet. The independent inspector performed an integrity test, and noticed a discrepancy in the various areas he tested, regarding the strength of the resistance in pulling out a strand. He also used a black-light to inspect for urine, and found no evidence. (We own two dogs). We not only have had the carpet professionally cleaned (documentation provided to the inspector), according to the warranty, but also cleaned the carpets ourselves on several occasions, with a home carpet cleaner.

Our claim was still DENIED based on 'environmental' issues, (dogs urinating on the carpet), which I call BS on. The defect was not in an area where the dogs have urinated. I showed the inspector where those areas were located, and his black-light showed NO residual evidence of urine, BECAUSE we clean up after our pets immediately, and clean the carpets regularly. The bottom line is this. Over 95% of all carpeting in America is manufactured by TWO companies (Mohawk and Shaw). With a monopoly on the market, they are not compelled to honor their warranty, unless legal action takes place. My advice is to avoid Mohawk at your own peril, because the warranty is just a smoke screen to give you a false sense of security, that they will NOT honor. I can only hope that a class action suit is filed, so that the honest customers can hold Mohawk accountable for the treatment of their customers.

Mohawk Flooring response
Hello Bill, this is Laura with Mohawk. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. Our Consumer Affairs team looked up your claim; a sample of your carpet passed delamination tests as well as a tuft-bind test, showing no manufacturing defects present in the carpet. If you disagree with the claim decision, you can have the claim reopened by hiring an independent inspector to assess your carpet. The inspector should be certified by either the NICFI or the IICRC:
http://www.nicfi.org/Search.aspx
https://www.iicrc.org/page/IICRCGlobalLocator

On both sites, you can find your nearest certified flooring inspectors. They usually have a wide radius of service. If this inspector's findings differ from our findings, you or the inspector can send the new report to consumer@mohawkind.com. This will reopen the claim. I apologize again for your experience.

I recently had Mohawk TecWood engineered flooring installed in my addition. I chose Santa Barbara, Elba. During installation, there were enough scratches that I was given a bottle of Old English scratch cover. I do not even have the room completed and every day I find more scratches. Anything that has been moved in was carried, felt floor protectors or gliders were used, and there are new scratches all the time. Once this room gets used and lived in, the floor will never last. I am very disappointed in the product.

I bought a laminate plank from Mohawk Flooring and had it installed in the kitchen and bathroom. When the product got here, it was defective, so I was a little upset about that because we couldn’t finish the floors until they could get it back in. The store ended up working out something and they had it in five days later. I am worried about the quality of the product because I paid so much for something that was defective. But I was very happy with the store that I was working with. They went the extra mile.

I am a carpet installer. I have been doing it for 25 years and I have never seen such poorly made carpet. I don't know what's going on, but they can't make a piece of carpet. We ordered the original carpet for customer. The carpet couldn't be laid properly. We ordered replacement, same problem! I know of 3 or 4 other jobs that are the same and it seems that the mill and inspector are not there for the installers or the customer. Better product and inspections are needed. Thanks!

When you’re looking for a tile, you know what you want and when you find it, that’s it. I found the tile I liked that worked for me in Mohawk Flooring, and the price was also kinda what I was looking for. The Mohawk Gable Point Everest White tile will go with everything and we're having it installed everywhere. We’re doing the bathrooms too. In fact, we’re still working on it. But so far, things look good.

Was shopping at Target and fell in love with several Mohawk area rugs. I bought them and a few weeks later was back for more - so soft. Noticing that my toddlers bury their faces in it and eat off of it I decided to check the material. All of the rugs say "fiber: made of remnants of undetermined fiber content." This vague description is Alarming for a parent. Does this mean there is plastic, metal, and waste products in it and chemicals like BPA? Is it primarily made of recycled clothes and rags or are there other things like tires. Wish more information about the fiber and the way Mohawk processes it was available. There's also no information on backing and trim. I don't want to return them, but not knowing what it is is scary.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi August, I apologize for your experience with your rugs - just let me know which rugs you purchased, and we're happy to tell you what the material is. More than likely the fiber is nylon or polyester, and the backing is latex. I apologize again for your experience. Laura with Mohawk Flooring

I purchased Karastan flooring through Mohawk and had them install it in my home. I was looking for a low nap carpet and I liked the low nap on the Trendy Essence pattern so we picked that out. The stain-resistant feature attracted me to that style. Thus far, my experience has been great and it's what I expected.

We had the carpeting installed in our family room by Lowe's, who promised durability and pet-friendliness. It was neither. Within a week, pulls and strands appeared as the carpet unraveled. Six months of back and forth with both Lowe's and Mohawk yielded nothing. After analyzing a sample of the carpet (after our repeated requests over months), Mohawk claimed it was not defective. Save yourself heartache, and avoid Mohawk flooring. Poor quality that cannot even stand up to normal foot traffic, no less a Labrador retriever.

I purchased two expensive Karastan area rugs from a large Nebraska retailer with a branch now located in Dallas. I thought I was purchasing a top quality rug manufactured by a reputable company with a long history of excellent quality and customer service. From day one complete loops of carpet fibers freely popped out of the carpet on a daily basis. This problem continues. There are loose carpet fibers all over the house. At first I contributed this shedding to new carpet "lint". It has continued for over a year. I thought I was covered because I purchased an extended warranty. When will I learn these warranties are worthless???

First the salesman at the large NE retailer referred me to the manufacturer with the assurance Karastan/Mohawk would stand behind their product. He also told me he has had other customers with the same problem. Have you tried to get through the Mohawk automated phone system? Almost impossible. I finally called the NE retailer's customer service. My complaint was recorded and I was advised she would contact the manufacturer and get back to me. When she called me back, she advised me the manufacturer would not back their product nor would the retailer. Needless to say, I should have complained within the first year, but I truly thought the problem would stop plus I thought I had an extended warranty.

The important message here for prospective buyers is buyer beware. The quality and customer service that existed many years ago does not exist today. The quality of the the wool Karastan rugs of the '50s & '60s does not exist. You're better off buying cheap and replacing every year or so. The reputation of the NE retailer that Rose Blumkin instilled in her employers is long gone. Buyers today must not put stock in the names of yesterday.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi Alice, I'm Laura with Mohawk - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your rugs. Certain Karastan wool rugs carry 10-year or 20-year warranties, while other Karastan rugs (including all non-wool rugs) carry 1-year warranties. I've listed the collections carrying 10- and 20-year warranties below. I don't know which styles you purchased, but I'm thinking they were from collections with the 1-year warranty, as you mentioned 1 year in your comments. So, if the complaint were filed after a year, the time limit for making a warranty claim would have passed. I apologize again for your experience.

10-year or 20-year warranties: English Manor Collection, Manifesto Collection, Sierra Mar Collection, Titanium Collection, Original Karastan Collection, Ashara Collection, Shapura Collection, Antique Legends Collection, Sovereign Collection

I saw Mohawk at the tile place and I liked the quality of it. We were between two products, but the $500 off really helped. So, with that, we went with Mohawk. We got the wide tile that looks like wood and it’s very realistic-looking and I like the wide plank. We did the whole house in it. So far, so good. We really like it.

We have Mohawk Tecwood flooring throughout our first floor. The floors are less than three years old and they look awful, full of scratches, chips, and dents. We have mats at both doors, felt protectors under chair legs, and a large rug in the living room. In addition, we have no pets and no children. I cannot imagine how terrible the floor would look under more demanding conditions. Tecwood is a terrible, low quality product and I would not recommend it to anybody for any purpose.

We were looking for a new flooring and it was for a rental property that we just bought, so we wanted to go with a company that was local. Mohawk was the product that the local people offered us, so that was what we bought. We went with some fairly plain carpet from a look perspective, but something as reasonably durable. It was for an old house that we’re renting out, so we wanted to make sure we got something that would look good and would wear out well. We had someone install it and it took two days. Any trouble we had was after the fact though. We had to have the doors shaved down a little bit because the space didn’t have carpets before, so the carpet raised the flooring to the plank where we had to have the doors brought down. Other than that, we were very happy with our experience.

We have a cottage and we purchased flooring from Mohawk for it. I’ve been there since and it’s lovely. We got the Luxury vinyl and it was put in a sunroom/dining room kinda area at the front of the house. Initially, we were looking more for the flooring itself rather than the company. We got the flooring we wanted and that happened to be Mohawk’s flooring, so we went with them. My mom spoke with the person at the store and she said that they were very helpful and able to find her the correct underlay that went underneath the floor.

The product's cost to the quality ratio is excellent and it looks great. We were pleasantly surprised. The feel of it is really nice, too and the only thing I could say that could be improved on it would be that it is still quite thin. It was only a 4.5 millimeter and originally, we were looking for a 6, so we were a little concerned about that. But we’ll sort of see how it wears over time because of the fact that it’s thinner. Other than that, it was installed this summer and so far, so good. But it hasn’t gone through a winter yet so I can't say whether or not it breaks at all or if it peels or lifts until next year.

Bought this flooring about 3 weeks ago. Dont like the feel when walking on it. After a couple of days the seams started to separate. It was bought inside for about a week to adjust. There was a quarter inch gap left all around the perimeter. It looked good for a couple of days and that was it. Contacted the store where purchase. Finally got a claim number. (See what happens.)

I did the engineered laminate for my whole main floor and I really like the look of it. I like that it’s a wide plank and that it doesn't have a shiny finish. It’s a matte finish that looks like burned wood, which is what I was going for. I’m in love with it. I also liked that Mohawk had a bit of a warranty as far as waterproof because I have animals. Then compared to other brands I considered, the cost was also pretty similar.

We had our Mohawk smartstrand carpet installed 3/7/18 by Above All Hardwood Floors after several recommendations on product by installers. After installation we purchased a new vacuum cleaner recommended specifically for carpet brand/style. We vacuum a minimum of 2-3 times weekly. No one is even home regularly on weekdays. We do not wear shoes on carpet. We began noticing wear and matting of product on stairs and a select few areas in family room 1/2019. We contacted Above All Hardwood flooring 3/2019 after increased wear/matting was noted. We were told we should have it professionally cleaned as it can make the strands refreshed. Regular cleaning is also required by the warranty. Zerorez cleaned carpets for us on 4/9/19. No improvement of carpet texture noted.

After contacting Above All Hardwood flooring we were recommended to talk with Mohawk - on 5/1/19 Mohawk had an independent inspector come to our home for inspection of carpet. Our claim ** was denied. The conclusion on the report -"This is a maintenance related issue." "Increased maintenance in traffic areas will improve the appearance and performance of carpet pile." Needless to say we are extremely unhappy. We have lived in 4 homes. This carpet was supposed to be great with an amazing 25 year warranty that was talked up to us. Mohawk has not in any way stood behind the product. The customer service is extremely poor. No one from Mohawk has come to our home. Everything is done by email response and all very generic responses.

My husband works in Sales and cannot believe the poor customer service and lack of standing behind their product. We had plans to place the same carpet going down the stairs and into the basement after we completed some construction - this will definitely not be happening. We no longer plan on using Mohawk carpet brand for future construction and we cannot recommend it to others due to the poor customer service and lack of standing behind their product and warranty. We asked for appeal and that was also denied. We will pay for our own inspector as recommended however it's ridiculous we have to pay for our warranty to be even considered. - Discouraged consumer

I have a large area open floor plan in which the floor is all covered with Mohawk Bayview Country Natural Hickory Laminate. My refrigerator leaked on the floor which in turn ruined a portion of the laminate in front of the refrigerator. I was lucky enough that the laminate was still available and could place an order with my local carpet store and have the new laminate installed.

After several days I noticed that the new laminate was starting to lift on the corners and on the edges between the boards. I spoke with the carpet store, there is nothing they can do to help me. The laminate has since been discontinued, now instead of just replacing the defective pieces I am stuck replacing all the laminate so it will match, which will run me over $5000 all because Mohawk sold an inferior defective laminate. I’m so dissatisfied and disappointed. Had I known I would end up with a defective product I would have went with a different laminate company from the start. Do your research, I thought I had but I obviously could have chosen better.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Shirley, I'm Laura with Mohawk - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. If you believe the product has manufacturing defects, I would recommend that you ask your store to file a claim on your behalf with Mohawk, regardless of whether the style/color has been discontinued. After my installers were 2/3 complete, they started opening boxes and noticed the wood was a different color. We called the distributor who then put me in touch directly with the Michigan Mohawk representative, Mike. He did not answer the phone 1 time or text messages. I requested they send me the correct floor within 3 days as I had other trades and people scheduled to perform services, I needed my flooring immediately or else I would miss my closing date. Well that didn’t matter to Mike, he simply just didn’t care. They took 9 days to get me my floor and I had 2 hours to get it or else it would’ve been 11 days. This problem costed me thousands of dollars and I had to push my closing back 1 week. Then they have the nerve to charge me for the additional boxes of flooring. Let’s just say I wouldn’t use their products again due to their carelessness in customer service.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Carlo, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. The territory representatives are contacts only for retailers/distributors, not for the customers of the retailers/distributors, so I'm not sure why your store asked you to call the rep directly. The store is supposed to work with Mohawk on your behalf. If you received damaged product, you should be able to return that product to your store - please speak to your store about this. That would cancel out any charge for additional boxes of flooring. I apologize again for your experience.

Updated on 09/15/2019: I purchased my carpet and purchased the more expensive pad for the carpet warranty. Two years the carpet was rotting and Lowe's did come and replace it. Now two years later it is degrading. Professional carpet cleaner came in to clean and told me there was nothing he could do. The fibers of carpet were degraded. Lowe's said I had to deal with Mohawk now. Wrote a complaint on here and Mohawk got back with me saying too bad. Even though there is a 20 year warranty they will not replace if it is a walkway which that is not what it says in their warranty that they will replace for degraded carpet if it is a percentage worse than a non walkway which it is. They were going to review it and that was 5 months ago.

I have never heard back and do not even know how to reach anyone. I had Mohawk carpet before and it lasted almost 19 years that is why I spent a considerable more money than other brands that Lowe's carried because the carpet I had before was so good. I don't know if they are making it maybe overseas now to save money but for a carpet that is two years old and I am an elderly handicap that for the last 3 years have been bed bound and I have a in home worker that comes and cleans and she sweeps the carpet every day with an expensive vacuum that I purchased just for this carpet.

I redid my home before I had to leave my job and now I am disabled so I can't afford to replace this so I have put down rugs on top of it because I am so embarrass by it. So sad that I have to have cheap Wal-mart rugs down that I should be able to just have some nice carpet. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARPET. YOU WILL REGRET IT. It is not just a first lemon carpet but the second one put down is doing the same.

Original Review: I purchased Mohawk before and it lasted me 17 years until I had to replace so once again I gave them my business. Now this new carpet I purchased has already had to be replaced in two years because it was rotting. Now two years after that it again is degrading. Professional carpet cleaner says there is nothing he can do. Mohawk said they do not guarantee heavy traffic but I seen nothing in their warranty about that and this is not heavy traffic. I am a 50 year old disabled woman and rarely in the last three years have even gotten out of my bed so this carpet is defective crap that I put a lot of money into. NEVER AGAIN.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Mary, I'm Laura with Mohawk - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. Do you happen to have the claim number that Mohawk would have provided your store with when the claim was filed, or could you tell me the name of the retailer and the approximate date (month/year) that the claim was filed? We looked for a claim under your name and have not found a positive match. With some of that additional info we can look for your claim and advise any next steps. I apologize again for your experience with your carpet.

I recently (one year ago) bought a new $465,000 home that had Mohawk Engineered Hardwood flooring installed. Less than a year later the entire first floor (1400+sq.ft.) is wearing out. The color is wearing thru or chipping off at the edges of the boards. My cork brown floors now have lines of lighter wood showing thru. Mowhawk sent out an inspector who determined that over 20% of my floor has "checking of the face veneers". Mowhawk decided this wasn't a manufacturing defect even though there is supposed to be a 25 residencial warranty. It didn't last a year... Builder, Installer and Mowhawk (manufacturer) all claim it isn't their fault. I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with this company.

Hello Cliff, I'm Laura with Mohawk, and I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your flooring. Since your claim was declined based on an inspection, you can have a second inspection done in order to reopen the claim, if you would like to hire an inspector and have them assess your flooring. We got carpet from Mohawk and it was 100% SmartStrand. We pretty much did the whole house, except for the kitchen and bathroom. The installation team wasn't exactly sure in some cases what they were supposed to do, which kind of surprised me. They didn't know if they were supposed to do the closets and if they were supposed to do the stairs. Stuff like that kinda threw me off because I thought they’d for sure know what they were supposed to do before they came to the house.

Also the installers should be a little bit more careful with cables. They actually cut into my internet line in the basement. So I had to have my internet provider come and replace the cable the next day in order for me to get internet in the house. They didn't seem super careful, like one of my drawers on my bed was broken. I had to point that out. So we fixed that before they left. But other than that it went good. They got there at 9:00 and left about 5:30. I was satisfied. Rge carpet is also awesome. When it comes to their product, it's great.

I installed Mohawk Exquisite Attraction carpeting in two bedrooms on March 26, 2018. I became concerned when it was three months old and the texture of the carpet had completely changed looking older than the one it replaced. I made many calls to the retailer and was put on hold until they had time to come to the house to check on the carpet condition. They showed up four months later. Many months passed with no resolution. I called Mohawk and was told that perhaps I bought a cheap carpet or allowed it to get very dirty.

In January an inspector representing the manufacturer came to look at the carpet. It is now April and I have not received the inspection conclusions. When talking to Mowhak consumer complaint dept. I was told that the retailer had the results on Jan.18, 2019. The retailer told me that he had no results, and the complaint dept. told me that the results are confidential until Mohawk speaks to the retailer which has not happened. In the meantime, I am unable to get a return call from the retailer and the complaint dept. at Mohawk has not called or emailed either.

One must conclude that there is something wrong here and it is not with the consumer. If the results of an inspection have concluded, why am I not the recipient of the conclusions? The inspector came into my home, I paid a lot of money for the carpet and yet I am denied the results. I am in the process of getting area rugs to hide the “new” carpet. This is costing extra money along with the extra money to purchase a vacuum cleaner specific to this particular Mohawk carpet that the retailer did not tell me that I would need. The carpet brochure did not state any special cleaning needs either. In closing, I have had Mohawk carpets in my home for years and they have been absolutely beautiful and long wearing. Unfortunately, this one is not! Rita **

New home, 5 or six boards were replaced prior to move-in. Three months after move-in, we have 12-20 more boards. Toddler has gotten two 1/2" long pieces in his feet, adults have also been tagged. About every 2-3 weeks, a new board starts splintering, and this shows no sign of slowing down. Mohawk Warranty response to installer: "Behaving as expected, not a valid warranty claim." Installer told us Mohawk advised we should "just sand down the rough edges." We have boards that have cracked along several feet (and in the middle of the board), not the edges. What does it take for a 50-year warranty to be triggered, every single board failing? Emergency room trips from splinters?

Hi Jonathan, this is Laura with Mohawk - I've messaged you this information on another platform, but I wanted to post it here as well. First off I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your floors. I purchased Mohawk 100% SmartStrand BCF 3GT Polyester with DuPont Sorona Renewably Sourced Polymer. Style: SILK 00119D. Color: Log Cabin. I purchased this carpet from Home Depot in May 2009. So this carpet is 10 years old. It was installed in 4 Bedrooms. I wear my shoes all day, every day. I have had multiple Dogs and a cat. All of which at one time or another pottied on it or vomited on it. I have 10 grandchildren, again, at one time or another pottied on it, spilled juice on it, and got gum stuck in it. I vacuum with a Dyson DC17 once a week.

I have used the Rug Doctor 4 or 5 times to clean it in a 10 year. I spot cleaned it many times due to the pet and kid accidents. After 10 years, the carpet still looks looks amazing. No traffic pattern, no stains, no wear, nothing whatsoever wrong. I going to buy carpet for the 3 season porch today; a very high traffic room. There is no question what I will be buying; I will be buying Mohawk SmartStrand.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi there, I'm Laura with Mohawk - thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! It's wonderful to hear that your SmartStrand carpet has performed beautifully for you all these years and been a fantastic carpet for your grandchildren and pets. Thank you again for your review and for choosing Mohawk carpet for your home.

We moved into our new house 12/2018 and chose Mohawk LVT because of builder's designer selling us on its durability. We were very careful to put mats at all entry doors, felt pads on all furniture and even purchased a special vacuum and mops. We began noticing scratches immediately. We now have hundreds! We contacted the builder/installer and they sent someone out to replace a few pieces. He suggested we purchase a Minwax marker and touch up the scratches.

We were not happy! (1) I am disabled and cannot crawl around on my hands and knees, (2) it is a new floor and has hundreds of scratches, (3) the marker shows on the floor. We contacted Mohawk and an inspector was sent out on 2/22/19 to take pictures and write a report. It is now April 5, 2019 and we have heard nothing. The builder doesn't want to meet with us, their installer/vendor doesn't respond because they are hoping it's defective. We are embarrassed to have guests at our forever home!

We purchased Mohawk Vinyl flooring earlier this year to install in our new home. Shortly after installing the product the seams began to separate and it looks horrible. Mohawk wanted us to file a claim with Menards, who sold the product. We filed the claim and Menards sent it onto Mohawk, who after several weeks still hasn't responded. I have called the company, but have been sent to their never ending phone tree.

This company should be ashamed of itself for being a MADE in the USA product and business. If Mohawk ever responds I'm sure they are going to tell me it was installer error. This might be a good argument if we had not purchased SHAW brand vinyl and installed it with no problems in the same house at the same time. Whatever you do, don't buy Mohawk and expect them to stand behind their product or provide customer service. We were looking at purchasing thousands of dollars worth of carpet for the new home and will be sure not to use Mohawk.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi Corey, I'm Laura with Mohawk - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your flooring. Mohawk would have asked you to contact your store to file the claim, because filing a claim is something your store must do on your behalf. Mohawk then communicates with your store about the claim, and your store is responsible for communicating all information to you. We looked for a claim so that we could share the status of the claim, but a claim was not found that has your name. Could you send me the 7-digit claim number that your store gave you from Mohawk? (Your store would have received the number from Mohawk when they filed the claim, and they can provide it to you if they haven't yet.) Or, if the claim was filed under a different name, please let me know. I apologize again for your experience.

Matted carpet in 4 months. I purchase and moved into my beautiful new townhome in Oct 2018. I live there with my son who works all day and stays in his room all night. There is no continuous use of this carpet, I don't see any reason why it should look like it's 5 yrs old. I went to Europe for 1 month 12/19-01/19/19 that's 1 month with no use. When I got settled in after being away for so long I noticed that my carpet looked horrible. So I went to get estimates on new carpet. Every person I spoke to talked about how their carpet has a 25 yr warranty. That's when it dawned on me I just purchased this townhouse. This carpet should have a warranty as well.

I made my complaint and GUESS WHAT. They dont warranty crush/matted carpet. what kind of crap is that. I've lived in my home for less than 4 months. The carpet looks terrible and they won't stand behind their warranty. I AM NOW CONSIDERING GOING TO COURT FOR THE COST TO REPLACE THIS CARPET WITH ANOTHER MANUFACTURER.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi Paula, I'm Laura with Mohawk. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. Mohawk carpets do carry a limited texture retention warranty, warranting that the carpet will not showing excessive pile crushing or matting from ordinary foot traffic, as a result of the tufts losing twist. What is excluded from the warranty is crushing that is rather the compaction of the pile thickness due to foot traffic or furniture; regular use of a vacuum with a beater bar in high-traffic areas may help reduce changes in carpet’s appearance. I apologize again for your experience.

I'm all commercial in my projects, and all of my dealings are with either the provider or the subcontractor. Both the two main flooring subs I use like the Mohawk line, so that's usually what they quote to me, and we get somebody to pick out of that. We buy the higher end of Mohawk's products. They have good products. They are also competitive on pricing, and the quality is fine. Mohawk is a good company, and I've always had good luck with them. The dealer network works. Putting somebody in local to develop relationships is a great way of doing it.

I had Mohawk carpet installed November of 2018. I notice my carpet has multiple large loops on every stair. It looks very bad! I contacted Fantastic Flooring because Mohawk offers warranties on their carpet. I sent videos and multiple pictures of the carpet. My claim was DENIED due to PET hair. They zoomed in on one picture that had pet hairs in it and denied it due to pet damage! I had carpet on my stairs for 13 years with NO problems. I still have this carpet in my bedrooms with NO damage.

Hello Brenna, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. Could you message me your 7-digit claim number? Mohawk would have provided this to your dealer when they filed the claim, and the dealer would have shared it with you. We purchased Moduleo Ethnic Wenge luxury vinyl plank flooring. The installer came on February 4, 2019 to install the flooring however it became quickly apparent that there was a manufacturer defect in how the planks were “cut” as they were not “locking” in during the installation. I sent an email on February 26 enquiring about the status of my flooring situation. I received a response from Vanessa who indicated the distributor was waiting for a sample to open my claim. It have been six weeks and I have not received any new information. This is becoming quite distressing as we have had to live with exposed sub floors not to mention the impact this has had on subsequent contractors in terms of unnecessary delays and additional costs. I am hoping someone can provide me with an update!

Hello Tracy, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring, and I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your floors. Five year old patterned carpet in our lower level. There are no kids just two adults and a 10 lb. dog who never goes downstairs. I vacuum weekly and within the last month there are now 5 pulls all the exact same size and paths with crushing. We take off our shoes when we come in and seldom even use that area. Our 30 year old carpet upstairs that gets most foot traffic still looks great. From what I am reading regarding the warranty, I'm not even going to bother submitting a claim. Not worth the already high sense of frustration. Why I ever went with Mohawk I'll never know. I read all the reviews about how crappy the carpets were but got talked into the brand by the salesman who was also the owner. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones since we got five years out of ours but I'm thinking it's because we so seldom go downstairs. SAVE YOURSELF THE AGGRAVATION AND MONEY AND STAY AWAY FROM MOHAWK.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Joan, I'm Laura with Mohawk, and I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. I understand from your comments that you are not interested in submitting a claim; however, the first step would simply be to speak with your retailer about your experience and to ask them for assistance. The retailer is who files a claim for you, but they may be able to help you without filing a claim with Mohawk. In any event, I will share your comments with our Consumer Affairs team. I apologize again for your experience.

We bought Karastan carpeting from Mohawk for the bedroom and the living room. In the bedroom, my favorite thing about the carpet is the plushness of it. But in the living room, we weren’t shown the same carpet as what’s in the bedroom, so it’s not as plush. I was disappointed in that, but can’t do anything about that now. The bedroom wasn’t installed until after the living room, so I didn’t know the living room wasn’t as nice until the bedroom was finished. I liked it okay until the bedroom was done.

Purchased Mohawk Vintage carpet in October. Had to move a 1200 lb grand piano up a stair to allow for install. Carpet installer did a great job. It was evening and everything looked fine. I brought in a crew to return the piano to place. The next morning, with light coming through the windows, it was discovered that the carpet was flawed throughout - lines from a "low loop" every few inches. The company admitted it was a flaw, but was unwilling to do anything about the very expensive proposition of bringing in piano movers TWICE to remove and restore the piano.

They offered a small amount of financial compensation. So I was faced with either shouldering the expense of moving a piano - again - twice, or accepting the 'compensation' and living with a flawed carpet. Either way, I get burned and the company walks from a problem that they should have seen if there had been adequate quality control on their end. Don't they look at this carpet before sending it out? Would not go with Mohawk ever again.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hello Allan, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring, and I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. You are correct that your carpet warranty does not cover payment for moving furniture. I apologize that we can't find a claim under your name (please let me know the 7-digit claim number, or if we should look under a different name), but it sounds as though replacement of the carpet was offered. New carpet would be provided, but not, as you note, payment for furniture moving. If you are unhappy with the offer, please discuss with your retailer, and they will work with Mohawk on your behalf as needed. I apologize again for your experience with your carpet.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! I originally purchased Stoney oak gray from the Home Depot from the Harahan, Louisiana location, and had it installed in Jan/Feb of 2018 by Home Depot. By September your product began to fail. After the installers came out and figured out it wasn't an install issues, we then concluded that it was in fact a manufacturing defect. In fact, you guys have admitted the product was defective.

After months of back and forth, the lack of communication between your company and Home Depot, and the runaround, we finally had the entire floor replaced with a different Mohawk product. In November the new product was installed. At that point we had issues with Mohawk paying for removal and reinstall of the toilet!!! Weeks went by and we finally got a refund 6 weeks after the install. This was based on Mohawk's inability to effectively pay for the amount due to Home Depot. The floors have not even been laid for two months and we are having issues of buckling and spacing! The floor looks absolutely disgusting. I am so aggravated, disappointed, and pissed about your deceptive product. It seems that all Mohawk products are crappy or at least the two products you have installed in my home.

In addition, most people work Monday – Friday which is when you are open. I have called Home Depot and of course the people that need to help me are either off today or on vacation. The soonest we can discuss this issue is Monday! That is not good enough for 7 months of issues. I have had to take time off of work and upset my life and the lives of my children! This isn't fair! I don't have time to go back and forth again with communication issues and the issues of people not caring or wanting to do their job!!! The house is being listed in April and I can't afford to have any delay as it will decrease the value as well as a person's desire to purchase the home. I wouldn't want to buy a home with flooring issues, would you!

Pergo XP was absolutely beautiful when I first got it. Now five years later Mohawk won't even honor the warranty. They blame it on installation that to me is a joke that is a cop-out. I can't believe that a company like Mohawk of the Pergo Department would actually call it a installation problem when there is curling on the floor. There's also chips of the flooring coming off. There is a big water scratch line, I guess you can call it that. I had to fix with BS repair kit. Tabs are breaking left and right. I told him that it was mushy at first and now the tabs are breaking like their dominoes falling over. Do not buy Pergo XP. I'm begging you. Do not buy Pergo XP. It is the biggest scam stuff I have ever seen and if you go for a warranty on it they will laugh at you basically and say, "Sorry. It was an installation problem."

I didn't have that big of an area. I have 288 square feet. I offered him lots of opportunities to fix it. I told him I will pay for labor. I told him I wouldn't worry about the quarter round or the removal, just replace the floor. That's all. I asked, “Give me a voucher and I'll get some more Mohawk Flooring for it.” They won't even do that. It almost sounds like they want me to take it to litigation. Sent them pictures of the floor of all the damages. I talked to Home Depot concerning this. I have talked to everybody 8 months now. And all I get is a decline on the warranty because somebody came over and seen that the Peugeot had shifted to one side of the room and that's a sign that he took the quarter round off. And sure enough it was up against the wall.

I told him to look at the other side. He refused to look at that side but he took a picture of it touching the wall so they call it installation. Then I get a representative from Mohawk told me to email this and so I go email it and it's a Daemon (it's undeliverable) so they gave me another one same thing undeliverable. So far to date say the past 6 months I have rejected over $200,000 worth of Pergo installations for all of my customers. I refuse to install Pergo XP because I will not pay for Pergo XP since they will not honor their warranty. I push for Tarkett, Shaw or any other flooring but Mohawk Pergo crap. I will do what I can to resell if they take my offer give me a voucher for 288 square feet of Hawaiian KOA curly. This was not a installation problem. This was a terrible floor that had a manufacturing problem. And Mohawk refuses to honor that. So do not buy anything Pergo XP if you value your money.

The carpet is constantly shedding and the seam is visible. Inspector came and said they thought it was defective carpet. The retailer is saying it is because of our dog and Roomba but it was shedding before we got either. Tried to reach out to Mohawk directly and they said I need to deal with the retailer. The retailer is scammy and even their installer said they are scammers and they won’t fix it because we own a dog, he said there is no way to fight. He said our carpet should not look like this after a year and he was so sorry. My husband is a disabled combat vet and doesn’t deserve this.

My wife and have been spending the last few months redoing our basement. Our previous carpet and decor of 15 years was needing an uplift. We struggled to find a good quality Berber and selected a Mohawk line from Loudenslager's Carpet Corner in Williamsport PA. The carpet came in very quick and the installers were very professional. Our area is an L shape, making it wider than 15' at the L section. This required a seam, but that did not concern us because our previous Berber had the same seam location. The install was a challenge due to a slate pool table needing moved from one side until completed, and then back to complete the L portion. A great deal of coordination was required for this.

Upon completion and a full day of glue drying, we noticed that the transition from the long wide section to the seamed area was extremely noticeable. We contacted Loudenslager's and they came to look to ensure it was seamed correctly and upon inspection it was. But it was still easy to see where the long run ended and the side L transitioned to the new piece. We have provide pictures to Loudenslager's and they were going to share with Mohawk.

I am very concerned with this as we just put $2600 into the carpet, install and another $200 in the move of items to complete. This transition area unfortunately is not covered by any furniture and is only highlighted when the projector is on and the area is lit up as seen in some of the pictures. Definitely not an acceptable product and it looks as if we went for a very cheap quality product with very little quality control. We await further action from Mohawk and a personal visit by Loudenslager's this coming Monday. Not very pleased with this look and await a resolution.

We went to Home Comfort flooring and the quality of the other carpet brands that they carried were comparable to the one that we got from Mohawk Flooring. But we liked the color and thickness of Mohawk's product so that's what we bought. We had it installed in our living and family rooms and their reps did a great job. They moved the furniture and were in and out. We were very pleased with our experience.

I really wish I’d done my own homework, instead of listening to a lying floor salesman. We put in Mohawk Windridge Hickory. He assured us it was a very good quality and would withstand most anything other than abuse. He told us Hickory was a hardwood and held up much better than most. We’ve had them less than a month now and they’ve got this weird white dust or film that I can’t get cleaned off of them and they’re already scratched all to hell. I bought only the cleaner that Mohawk recommended, so why can’t I get them clean? I can’t find big enough rugs to cover the entire freakin floor, everything and I mean EVERYTHING seems to put a new scratch on these darn floors.

No way this is a high quality engineered wood product, no way! I can’t see how we’re even going to get a few good years out of these floors. $12,000.00 down the drain. Never Ever Again will I use anything Mohawk! That was a hard lesson to learn. I’ve had real wood (solid wood) before and that’s what I’ll use in the future. I will make sure it doesn’t come from Mohawk. They don’t deserve another dime of my money. Buyer beware, they are going to scratch like crazy.

From day one this floor (Mohawk 5-inch Tagliare flooring) has been a nightmare. They even told me, "It's rated a hardness of 900. That is not suitable for flooring." That's a direct quote from Mohawk. In two years with all my furniture on felt pads the Finish has worn off of everywhere Furniture sits on top of and yet they're telling me this is not and the contractor who installed my flooring said they don't even install it anymore because of the nightmares of having to rip it out. His exact quote was, "It's a defective product and we will not stand behind it because the manufacturer will not stand behind it."

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi Richard, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your floors. We didn't find a claim under your name - from your comments, has the company who sold you the flooring refused to file a claim on your behalf? Would you mind letting me know who the company is (name and location)? Or, if you bought the flooring from your builder, what your builder's name and location is? I will see if there's something we can do on our end. I apologize again for your experience.

We like the type of carpeting that we got from Mohawk Flooring. It's like Berber, which we like. We also like its colors and quality, which seems very good. Now that it's installed, we're very pleased with it. It's what we imagined it would be.

We bought country oak-colored laminate flooring from Mohawk to patch up the same kind of flooring that is already in our house. I'm very happy with the flooring.

We purchased the LifeProof carpet in April of 2018, after 2 months we noticed it had started matting together even in areas of little to no traffic. We made the claim and pictures were taken along with a sample of carpet for testing. We do not wear shoes in the house and purchased the expensive padding for under the carpet. We have a warranty but they came back with testing to say everything looks fine so they will not be replacing the carpet. Very unhappy with this product and how they will not even replace it, won’t purchase this again or anything Mohawk makes, carpet even gets vacuumed every other day but yet looks years old when it isn’t even a few months old!

Hello Madison, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with your carpet. Since your claim was declined based on photos and samples, you do have the option of having an inspection done in order to reopen the claim, if you would like to hire an inspector and have them assess your carpet. You or the inspector would send their report to us. The inspector must be certified either by the NICFI - http://www.nicfi.org/Search.aspx - or by the IICRC - http://www.iicrc.info/locateapro/homepage.aspx -- you can find your nearest certified flooring inspectors on both sites. We purchased a new spec home with existing Mohawk engineered wood flooring in October 2015. Approximately 1 year ago we began noticing small splits in their wood flooring and contacted the home builder with their concerns. The consumer stated that the builder has inspected the flooring several times and determined humidity was the issue and there was nothing they could do about the splits. We are not happy with the determination and an inspection was requested. The flooring was installed several weeks before they moved in but has no knowledge of acclimation, moisture testing or installation. There is no attic stock to measure, inspect, or have tested.

Rocky Mountains flooring company Inspection results: "The hardwood flooring is installed on the main-level in the entryway, living room, kitchen, and dining room. Started inspection in the entryway where was asked to look at splits in their flooring. Initially had trouble seeing the issues but under the right light and at different angles observed scratches and splits in the entryway and throughout the main-level. I inspected the entire main-level and found that over 50% of the installed boards contained the splits. There is no attic stock to inspect.

The splits are considered face checking, which are cracks in the veneer that run down the length of the board. Face checking occurs in engineered wood flooring when relative humidity is too low and the floor experiences dry conditions outside the manufacturer's parameters. I measured the RH throughout the main-level and recorded 32% & more. The consumer is also concerned with 2 cracked boards and 1 gap in the living room. I inspected the issues and observed 2 cracked boards that are repairable and 1 end gap that was 1/16'' wide. I took a look at the installation and found there is no expansion space at transitions with different types of flooring, no expansion space at base cabinets or the sliding glass door, and places where baseboards and ledgestone are pinching the flooring."

Colorado is a super dry state and it's hard to maintain humidity up to 55% at home especially in winter. Installing a wrong wood in Colorado and then blaming consumer that they should have installed a centralized humidifier (which builder failed to communicate when we bought the house) is not acceptable. Also we been maintaining temp 70F-72F in winter and 65F in summer at our house.

First Arlan/Lennar tried to convince by saying "It's out of warranty, we cannot do anything, neither Mohawk". Later we pushed a litter and asked for inspection as per manufacturer warranty but after inspection Arlan/Lennar denied our request to replace floor saying Mohawk denied the claim. I believe Mohawk should take a responsibility and accept the claim. They should force the dealers to acknowledge this issue (community wide issue), also wood should be installed as per weather conditions in the area not because builder found it cheaper or they are not bothered checking what is the best fit for house. Consumer simply believes builders and pay lot of money (all hard earned money in savings) and in return we get this. I hope this can change how Mohawk deals with dealers & help consumers.

We bought a new home with Lennar 11 months ago. Mohawk Flooring was installed and was already delaminating when we did our walk through 1 week prior to closing escrow. Soon after we moved in the flooring started to chip throughout home at edges and pieces were cracked down the middle. Flooring company that installed was informed that Mohawk is no longer making our die lot. We are now stuck with flooring that is again delaminating and several cracks running down middle of the boards and chips throughout with no solution as Mohawk refuses to replace our floor and keeps sending samples that do not match our flooring.

I have been dealing with this for 11 months and all of my neighbors that have this flooring are having the same issues. Dogs walking on floor creates dents as this flooring is so soft and easily scratched. Had I been warned I never would have allow Mohawk flooring to be installed in my new home with ** flooring. Mohawk is refusing to own up to the fact that their material is not worthy of being in a home with pets or fix the mistakes caused by crappy materials. I would not recommend this company for any type of flooring as this manufacturer refuses to fix the thousands of homes in Colorado where these issues have surfaced. New home buyers are stuck with floors that have a 30 year warranty but can’t last even a year in a brand new home.

We purchased Karastan carpeting for the basement from Mohawk, whose quality and class were higher compared to other brands. We got a small stain and we haven’t been able to remove it, but it’s a nice carpet that feels comfortable.

We’d done Pergo type flooring before and it heats up, and the Mohawk flooring was guaranteed not to do that. Plus it is waterproof, which is big as I have pets. I purchased a PVC floor and I’m very happy with it. I highly recommend it.

I am quite pleased with the Mohawk carpet because it was inexpensive. I ordered it because I needed to get it in relatively quickly, and the wear and tear on it has been wonderful. I have it in three bedrooms and a hall and it's very nice.

In Mohawk’s advertising, they carpeted a zoo and after a year with elephants and rhinoceros, they carpeted the cages. They cleaned the carpet and it came up perfect. We got dogs and I wanted a durable stain-free carpet so, I had Mohawk carpets installed. It's called Triexta fiber and it's a new fiber that is positively stain-free. Moreover, the carpet is dense so it does not get worn down in traffic areas. We have had two accidents with the dogs and the carpet cleaned right up perfectly. I am very happy and I feel great that the carpet is standing up to my expectation.

For my daughter's condo home, we purchased Mohawk's water-resistant laminate flooring which was put in 3 rooms and some hallways. We also got the tile from Avalon for the kitchen. The cost is higher, especially Avalon is always higher, but the quality is good. We like the look and the color of the flooring as well. The flooring is beautiful and I love it. I'd recommend Mohawk Flooring.

Installed in May 2018 in response to a water damage claim. Note- I should have been a bit concerned when the insurance company paid the flooring company directly. This floor is nice to look at but is not functional as a flooring cover in a residence. We are not hard on floors; it's my wife and I (we are in our 50's) and our 2 dogs (nails trimmed regularly).

This floor does not hold up under below normal wear and tear; it chips easily and scratches and scars easily (don't drop a spoon!). When we did complain Mohawk focused on the installation portion of the process (which there are still exposed nail heads in areas I found this week wiping the floor). The response was to send out an inspector and an individual to show me how to repair the floor. I should not have to be repairing a new floor at this point in time, Mohawk! I focused on durability; this was ignored. Have considered pursuing this through our States Consumer Affairs Division of the Attorney Generals office; they are very helpful in these matters. In short, I do not recommend this flooring in a residential application due to Poor durability.

We searched around Paramount for flooring. We got a bunch of pets and Mohawk Flooring sounded like it was a good product for that. Also, their price was good for the quality. We got them to install carpet on our stairs and bedrooms, and the installation was good. I like the smart stranding and the stain resistance of the new carpet. So far, everything's good.

Updated on 01/20/2019: Mohawk must pay Consumer Affairs a lot of money, because when you post something negative a nice person named “Laura” make it sound like Mohawk cares and you can’t post a reply to her very apologetic response. Have you noticed that if you have an issue they say sorry and ask for information on your claim? Shouldn’t they have it already? I’ve been waiting for weeks to hear about the claim LA Carpet put into Mohawk, and nothing has been done. If the company that sells the stuff says something is wrong, it probably is. Do they really want to deal with false claims? We work hard for our salaries and buying substandard sucks. But don’t worry, Laura will apologize and mark “resolution in progress” within a day or so. I think it’s time to send this into KNBC LA’s Troubleshooter and see if they’ll take a consumer complaint from a special ed teacher and medically retired cop.

Original Review: My father in law told us to get Mohawk carpet because it was the only carpet he’d buy as the head of facilities for LAX. We bought the carpet and in just over a year it looks equal to it WORSE than the 14 year old carpet we replaced. Thankfully the place we bought it from agrees and has placed a claim with Mohawk. I’m shocked that something that expensive could break down that fast and it’s ridiculous that we’ve wasted that much money. Maybe we should have bought DuPont Stainmaster...

My mom recently purchased Mohawk pre-padded carpet. It is a complete SCAM, do not purchase it. It is not soft, hard and there is not padded support with it pre-attached. It is awful and when we requested more padding, they refused to honor the warranty. Seriously? What is additional padding going to do that crap carpet!! My elderly mom was taken and now they are making us pay to re-stock it or if we get more padding remove the warranty. That is really disgusting to elderly people. I will NEVER purchase MOHAWK brand due to this experience in Oklahoma at Action Floors in Tahlequah.

Mohawk Flooring response

Hi Robin, I'm Laura with Mohawk, and I'm very sorry to hear about you and your mother's experience with her carpet. The carpet's attached pad is the only padding needed with this carpet. All wall-to-wall carpets have cushion specifications, as a pad that is too soft can adversely affect the performance of a carpet, and a pad that is too thick interferes with the anchoring of a carpet. The warranties for Mohawk carpets require that the cushion specifications are adhered to - that is why your store would discourage additional padding under the attached-pad carpet. I apologize again for your experience. Laura with Mohawk Flooring

Hello. We bought our Mohawk carpet for our home at early 2013. It is beautiful carpet, which, apparently because of a bad dye lot, is becoming less beautiful by the day. However, in random areas that get no traffic at all, let alone sun or water damage, the carpet is starting to discolor. The carpet color is a dark blue; the spots are oddly shaped and a peachy color. I use an Oreck, a Dyson and a Roomba vacuum. We maintain our carpet (and our home) impeccably. We are proud homeowners. We are not looking for a 'free ride'. We just want our carpet to look like we thought it should--well maintained and not discoloring. I am so upset--I thought Home Depot would stand by its products and service, and hope that Mohawk can do something for us. Please help! Thank you.

We tried out a few different brands and decided that the Mohawk was a good mix of the plushness, durability and cost. All their products seemed to be good as far as cost and durability were concerned. We chose our carpet based on the color and the style. The guy who came in installed it pretty easily too. The only drawback was the product off-gassed for about a week and a bit. Otherwise, it’s excellent. We've had it for two months now and I'm really happy with it. I’ll be buying it again if I buy more carpet.

We had Mohawk install carpet on our living room. We were considering every brand, but that’s the one we liked. It’s definitely much better than what we had. It’s softer. We also got a good price, so I would say it has the edge. We’re real happy with them.

This company is a fraud and anyone shall be aware of it when considering buying their products. I spent about 20K with their product and installations. After a few weeks/months, the laminate started to come off. An inspector confirmed that the delamination was a manufacturing issue. The company wants to replace 40% of the flooring which I never seen happen. If there's a manufacturing issue all the product shall be replaced, not just the product that is already showing the product. What about the product that will have the problem later? I work with manufacturing and if there's a problem we recall all product from that production series, not just the ones that are evidencing the problem. The likelihood that it will happen is high. I never saw a car manufacturer recall just the cars showing a problem, they recall all the cars. This just demonstrated the level of this company. Do a favor to yourself, don't use their products.

We purchased Mohawk because it’s a franchise. And they decided to go with this particular color and brand because they had a good experience with it at the other location. It’s pricier but the looks and the quality are good. The hardwood we bought is for commercial use and it was pretty easy to work with the product. We are using the product for counter, wall surface and vents.

We purchased Mohawk wall to wall carpet from Home Depot in December 2015. It was supposed to be friendly to normal wear and tear. Within a short period of time the color started to look off. After two years the carpet had changed from blue to brown. We were told that we needed to provide proof that we had had the carpets cleaned. Our carpets are vacuumed every week and doing a steam clean was not going to improve our problem - we worried it would make it worse. We have tried for the last year to get the carpet replaced with Home Depot. They have dragged their heels. We recently pulled up the carpet and brought it in to them. They say they are trying to resolve the file and nothing happens. We have documented the carpet before and after and kept samples. The photos are unreal. I would like to know how to escalate this complaint. Thank you.

I had laminate flooring installed by Mohawk Flooring in the living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway. However, the installers didn’t have the correct measurements. It wasn’t clear communication for them what they were doing. They didn’t have the right color or amount of quarter rounds. I had to take what they had on the truck. I was expecting brown but they brought white. They found enough two different browns on their truck. Because it's such a large area, they put together two different quarter rounds, which ended up being okay. The installation of the floor itself was good. We had white tile before, and now the flooring is a wood grain look so it's enhancing to the appearance. Also, I like that it's waterproof.

The cork underneath it is very comfortable to walk on and I like that the flooring doesn’t scratch.

Bought Pergo Lancaster Oak laminate flooring from Lowe's and had it professionally installed by Lowe's. Had Lowe's file a claim with pictures of curled edges and where the edges actually broke off. I called Mohawk to confirm that they received the pictures- they did. So far no response from Mohawk in three months.
