Purchase a GE refrigerator when we remodeled our kitchen. In fact, we purchase all GE Monogram appliances including a dishwasher, microwave, double oven, 5-burner stovetop and hood. To say I have been disappointed in these products would be the understatement of the century. I've had the refrigerate repaired 7 times in 7 years. The temperature kept rising in the refrigerator portion and the freezer would go into deep freeze. We were told over the phone to turn off the refrigerator for three days and leave the doors open. This apparently is supposed to reboot the system. It always worked for a few weeks but it eventually fell apart and we'd have to start the whole process over.

The GE repairman that was sent out was so incompetent that finally we called 1-800-Appliance and they figured it out in 10 minutes. It is a design flaw in the refrigerator. When we turned it off, all the built up ice in and around the ice maker would thaw and drain into the different components. When we turned it back on, it would freeze and clog everything up. The 1-800-Appliance repairman had to take apart the whole freezer to clean out the ice. The whole experience was so frustrating and GE's customer service is horribly inept.

I have a GE side by side which quit cooling. I paid for a service call and then for a computer board. All total over $300.00. Within 24 hrs there was leaking underneath and half my kitchen became flooded. When calling GE they tried to make this new problem "my fault". Another service call and it is still not right. Attempts to get water cause a leak from underneath. The ice machine is not working and I am afraid of another flood. All of this in a matter of a 4 days. I would not recommend a GE appliance to anyone. The GE service center staff are extremely rude and have no interest in helping the consumer. Don't buy a GE refrigerator!

Our GE Profile refrigerator was installed July 26, 2013. The freezer was fixed Monday July 21st, 2014 as scheduled. The technician did a great job and is very personable. I can tell you there are several things we are not happy about! Two major problems in less than 12 months!

    1. To wait two days for the first technician, then nine more days to get parts and repairs is ridiculous in this day and age when there is airfreight and a very, very light box of parts! Then you wait 24 hours after repairs to start to use your refrigerator and freezer. That is a total of 12 days of walking 18 steps to the refrigerator in the garage (Through a door and down two steps)! Then repeat that to return the goods after getting your food. With two people, that is 18 trips each day (for just two people), times 12 days = 216 trips!!! Each of us eats breakfast and lunch at a different time (Dinner together). What would a family do if they didn't have another refrigerator and/or kids? (Just because GE either makes junk, or we have a lemon!) I suggested to Customer Service we had a lemon (and wanted a new replacement), but perhaps it is another flaw, as this technician said he already had another one like this. Multiply that times all of your technicians all over the country and what do you have?

    2. Why, because this is the second major flaw in less than 12 months! The first major flaw was ice falling on the floor every time we down loaded ice cubes (unless we pulled the switch out), until our daughter-in-law said “this is not right.” The technician said he had done several fixes for new refrigerators of this model, so multiply that times all of your technicians and what do you get? The answer is, GE apparently puts out untested refrigerators with flaws!

    3. Fortunately, we have another refrigerator in our garage and when my wife began to see thawing in the GE French Freezer portion, she moved some food to the garage and cooked up some of the food. 4. A few weeks ago, GE sent an email questionnaire asking about our experience with our Profile. My wife gave her age and it then said “Thank you” and said that was the end of the survey. That is some way to treat customers! If you are X age, our opinion doesn't count? 5. On top of this, GE said they could authorize $30.00 for our inconvenience! I told some of our friends about this and they said “you've got to be kidding! $30?" (For 225 trips!) We had to move the goods to the garage refrigerator too.

One afternoon, I put my glass under the water spout on the door of my 4-year-old side-by-side GE fridge and the water didn't come out. The ice worked, but not the water. I looked in the manual and it said that maybe I needed a new filter, so even though I didn't think so, I purchased and installed a new filter. Still no water. I contacted GE and since the 1-year warranty had expired, it would cost me for a sales call. The serviceman came out and informed me that the water froze because I kept my refrigerator way too cold and he would raise the temperature (why did it take 4 years to freeze?).

He said it would thaw out and I should have water in 3 days, but recommended I buy a heater. I thought he was telling me a joke. Whoever heard of buying a heater for a fridge? He said that this fridge was defected and this was very common and this was the "fix". I told him that if it was defected, GE should pay to fix it, not me. Anyway, 2 weeks later I still did not have water.

I called again and they sent me the heater free (after much convincing), and another serviceman came out. This one said he would not install the heater because they don't work and said the last serviceman made the fridge colder, not warmer. He changed the temperature again and said I should have water in 3 days. Two weeks later, no water. Another serviceman has since come out and has now informed me that I need a new door because this one is defected. It cost $850, but they will reduce it to $190 + tax, shipping and 25% off installation of $90. So, for another $300, I can have a new door, but there is no guarantee that will fix it either and if it doesn't they are willing to sell me another refrigerator at a discount (as if I would ever buy another GE!).

I simply unplug the fridge and plug it back in and works again for a few days or few weeks. Clever solution, don't you think? I would put zero stars on my review but zero stars is rejected.

GE Profile Series French Door Refrigerator - We purchased this refrigerator during a kitchen remodel in August 2013 and it was installed in Oct. 2013. In July 2014, the freezer temperatures began to rise, now at 23 degrees. When I called the service line, an appointment was scheduled within a week to Tuesday. The repairman called on Monday and said that he was in the neighborhood. He came and checked and found several parts had failed. He told us that parts would be ordered, sent to the house and rescheduled the repairs the following Monday. When I did not receive parts, I called the service center and was told that those parts had not been ordered! A computer glitch, and it was good that I called because without parts, my appointment was in permanent limbo.

On Saturday, Consumer Affairs ordered expedited parts sent to the technician and rescheduled the appointment for the following Thursday. I called this morning to confirm my placement for this morning's service, and was told that I was cancelled. My parts were not sent to the tech., and were not scheduled to be received by me until later in the day today. So, without calling or e-mailing me, they cancelled and rescheduled me for tomorrow afternoon. I was shuffled from one person to another, waiting 3-5 minutes each time. Each person sympathized for my frustration, but was unable to do anything. A supervisor was not available on any occasion. I could leave a phone number and one would return my calls within 24 hours. While I can understand a rare mechanical failure in an appliance, this is the WORST customer service. They do not communicate and update about the progress of the service problem. Along with so many others, I will never purchase a GE product again. I also called my sales center to let them know about the continued service problem.

Have paid thousands to keep it working. No more dealing with GE. Their extended warranty company under them, ASSURANT, is a racket. Will not give us a quote if we have this fridge repaired. Only after we pay GE once again to repair will they then quote. And I have been told after the GE's repair service gets as much out of us as possible, then their warranty company will take us to the cleaners. Have called to have Ice maker repaired numerous times with still no satisfaction and no ice. Contacted GE customer relations, was told could get credit for half the cost of a new fridge; however, fridge had to be a GE refrigerator and order directly from GE. I guess that is how they get repeat customers. Will never buy GE again.

French door fridge has the constantly reported problem of the deli tray and under the tray filling up with water. Have repeatedly taken everything out of fridge & turned it off to try & defrost the bad condenser. Went so far as to remove the back inside panel one time - solidly filled with ice that we tried to get out.

Now the deli tray is out & the space filled with beach towels to soak up water, replaced daily, until I can get a new fridge. Oven no longer works in range, but the broiler does - what the heck. How is that outsourcing to China working out for you, GE? I wouldn't get a GE now if they were giving them away.

In 2008 we installed a GE single-door, bottom freezer refrigerator with an ice maker in our vacation home. This year, 2013, the plastic tubing failed that supplied water to the ice maker while we were away. The water flooded the first floor, damaging the wood and tile flooring beyond any possibility of repair. All the floors must be removed, dried out and replaced. The cost will be in the neighborhood of $20,000.

I reread the appliance manual, and it contained only a mild warning that the plastic tubing could deteriorate over time, with no instructions regarding periodic checking or maintenance. I have since heard of numerous instances of the same failure, so I believe the plastic tubing was and is a design defect.

GE Monogram Side by Side Refrigerator - 36 inch - Nightmare of a purchase. The first fridge was delivered during construction phase of my new kitchen remodel in mid 2008. Installed in place in September, 2008, into its spot in the new kitchen. Pulled the fridge out to connect the water supply for the ice maker a few weeks later, only to find mold and mildew completely covering the wall behind my fridge. Repairman came out and suggested I put a heating coil on the back of the fridge to evaporate the condensation. Same repairman said that not enough insulation was placed in the fridge from the factory. I asked the repairman to look himself in the mirror so that he could see how stupid he looked telling me to put a heater on the back of my refrigerator. I had purchased the fridge on my American express gold card. Guess what, AX offers not only a reverse charge guarantee on defective appliance purchases over $250, but they also offer extended warranties.

Gave Standard Brands several opportunities to make the purchase right, they would not listen. Finally I called AX and had them reverse the charge of almost $5,000 for the fridge. Only then did I get the attention of GE because accounts receivable all of a sudden got a reverse charge from AX for the full cost of the fridge. Someone from GE called me and I had a new refrigerator in a matter of hours. GE also paid for the hazardous cleanup that THEIR product created. This story would not have turned out ok for me without American Express. The AX charge reversal got their attention. I will NEVER BUY GE AGAIN. I am a banker and a construction lender. I always ask what appliances the builder or home owner are going to install. If they say GE, I do not finance the appliances in the loan and I proceed to tell them what crappy products GE makes. Have a spa out back also with - you guessed it - GE pumps. Have had to replace and/or rebuild those pumps 3 times in 7 years. GE sucks.

My husband found out it is not under warranty so he ordered the part for $168.31 and he has to install. He was required to order the glass even though ours is not broken because that is the way it comes. Well Great!! Why can't it be either or not both. Of course it could be but that would decrease the price. We will NEVER BUY A GE APPLIANCE AGAIN. I can only imagine what is coming in the future based upon all the complaints on this website. Purchased a new G.E. profile side by side refrigerator in May of 2014 directly from G.E. by telephone. First they set up company, they hired did not set up the unit completely and left quickly so they can go home early. The unit was not level so they had to come out to insure unit is level. Started to hear a grinding noise that was fairly loud and now really bugs us all night as it's by our living room by the T.V and the noise also wakes up guests in a nearby bed room.

I called G.E. several times and they said first make sure it is level, which I did. They said that noise was normal. G.E. sent out two serviceman, which the first one left within 7 min and said noise is normal and put some rug under and on the side to muffle the sound. He never even heard the noise.

A second person came out and at least hooked up the unit to his monitor. He finally heard the noise, never heard this sound and called his manager and said put some felt around the coils to muffle the sound. He came back later and tried to muffle the sound. Well as soon as he left, that noise did not go away and is very loud. Called GE a few times and stated they can't do anything as this is normal and can't exchange per policy but have to repair it. Thus the noise is too loud and really is getting on our nerves. I read several other people had this similar exact problems. I even read one with a door closure issue which I have that issue too. Is there anything we can do to correct this problem. Will someone take this on as a class action suit? I know of a couple of people who purchased this same unit in our neighborhood due to having to buy a smaller unit due to the size of the kitchen. They have no noise.

Do not purchase GE Profile Appliances under any circumstance. I purchased a GE Profile Microwave and French Door Refrigerator at the end of May 2009. In December 2011, the microwave stopped working - it was a defective magnetron. This happened right before Christmas and the repair person did not have the part prior to the holiday. I was without a microwave for the holidays with a house full of company. The repair person suggested I buy a small tabletop microwave to carry me through the holidays. What audacity! The microwave was never fixed until Jan 2012. In December 2012, the microwave once again stopped working. I called for service and the defective part was one that should have been replaced when the magnetron was replaced. The repair person once again did not have the part. His major concern was whether I would give him a good rating if GE surveyed me.

In April 2014, my $2400 French door refrigerator stopped cooling. I called for service and once again the repair person (who was the same as the one who repaired the microwave the second time) did not have the part. Once again, his major concern was how I would rate him if I were surveyed. Additionally he tried to upsell me on various parts, such as a water filter for the refrigerator.

In all cases, I contacted customer service. I asked for the name of the CEO of GE Appliances. No one in customer service was able and/or willing to provide a name. I commented that the CEO must be in the federal witness protection program. I finally found the names of the CEOs. (Charlene Begley was the CEO when the microwave had to be fixed the 1st time. The current CEO is Blankenship and is the one I wrote to when the microwave had to be fixed the 2nd time and when the refrigerator had to be fixed.) In all 3 cases I received calls from representatives from the CEO office who stated they could somewhat discount the costs I incurred, but not expunge them. I commented that GE should make me whole based on the priciness of the Profile line and the newness of the appliances. The representatives' comments were tantamount to the need for me to "have skin in the game". I have subsequently read that GE Profile appliances are fraught with problems and are associated with extremely costly repairs.

I have written to Consumer Reports on 3 occasions about the 3 incidents outlined above. The first time the president (Jim Guest). The first time (about the first microwave repair), I received a form letter thanking me for my input, but nothing more. The second time (about the 2nd microwave repair), I received correspondence from someone within Consumers Union stating I should contact the Better Business Bureau. I have received no response from Mr. Guest about the 3rd incident, whereby I sent him letters that I had sent to Begley and Blankenship of GE, which recapped the 3 issues outlined above. You can draw your own conclusions about Consumer Reports.

I have been taking steps to let the consumer know that GE Appliances are shoddily made and should not be purchased. I have let every family member, friend, business associate, and acquaintance know through a mass email mailing. I have also approached consumers in the parking lot of GE Appliance stores, with written recaps of my problems and encouraging them to NOT purchase GE appliances. For me the icing on the cake is that GE over the course of the last several years has paid "0" (nothing) in corporate income taxes. The consumer gets screwed by GE in more than 1 way. Boycott GE appliances!!!

I have had all the same problems as previous review and spent HUNDREDS of dollars on this HORRIBLE piece of equipment. 5 service calls in 6 years and final one was in February 2014, after the thermostat had been replaced for the 2nd time in January 2014! Now the water dispenser doesn't work. Thought maybe filter needed to be replaced (it has been about 8 or 9 months since I last replaced) but I was not notified by the LED light on the front panel to reset filter, so it's probably burned out. I purchased a new filter ($45 from Home Depot) yesterday & still no water. Looked up possible causes on internet and found water chamber either frozen or ruptured. If ruptured, water would be pooling under the right produce bin - BINGO! There was an inch of water sitting there, just ready to overflow onto my hard wood floor. Turned off water and now will have no water dispenser OR ice cubes.

PLEASE, if anyone finds a PROBLEM FREE brand please advise. I keep looking and it seems NONE are any good. FYI, also have had NUMEROUS problems with my GE Profile microwave. 3 service calls in 5 years. Bills total $480...purchased both at same time. My experience has been similar to others. Remodeled my kitchen. Chose GE Monogram Appliances. Refrigerator has developed rust areas and the lower back (coil?) freezes enough to actually freeze around wire basket. Never find anything in the pan so I'm not sure why this has occurred. Had a contract and the service rep. came out several times but it keeps happening. Contract has since expired. Ice continues to build up so there was no resolution.

Our side by side refrigerator started having problems in November of 2013. We bought this GE Profile counter depth unit in 2010. The temperature in freezer and refrig was extremely high. We bought the warranty and had 5 service calls. Panel replaced, converter replaced, had 2 calls for this. Came out, said it need replacement. It was ordered and we had to call for another appointment. This took over a month. And food spoiled. 3rd time guy came out, who knows what he did. But we were billed for a service call 3 months later. 5th time they sent GE out and he adjusted the connection of the converter. And as usual the temperature went out in a week.

Finally in April 2014 we got them to replace refrig per contract. We had to go to where we originally bought refrig. We only got credit for what we paid. To get the same refrig. was over a $1000 above the credit. We got a lower end unit but ended up paying $500 more. It is not in stock, so we have to wait 2 weeks for delivery. All our food spoiled and we have water leaking to the floor constantly. We have to wipe up every few hours. Already damaged floor. After reading review there appears to be a mfg problem with GE side by side. But no one says anything and I cannot find recall info. Hope we do not have this nightmare again in 3 years. Quite costly. Our old refrig lasted 20 years and still going when we replaced it. So much for updating.

We have a GE refrigerator Model GFE29HSDASS, it is exactly a year and half old. We were told that the electrical board was bad. We didn't get the extended warranty. What the repairman did find was a wire that wasn't hooked up just hanging there. I'm not sure if this could have caused the problem or not. Usually with an electrical problem like this in a car it usually happens right away rather than later like a mechanical problem. First the button for the water quit then the reset for the water filter would not reset. My question to GE was could the wire that wasn't hooked up have been the problem causing the board to go out when the water button was pushed. The repairman did put shrink tube on the wire, never did find where it went. Also the motor is awful noisy, was told they all are. My last GE product!

Our GE Profile fridge has been a problem from the get go. The ice maker motor had to be replaced during the first few months. The freezer door also had to be replaced during the first year because of a bad seal. During the second or third year, I noticed the inside of the freezer was cracking, and now I just noticed the fridge has numerous cracks. I knew we no longer had a warranty but wanted to call the 800 number to inquire. I get the motor parts being out of warranty, but to me this is a manufacturing defect. The lady I spoke to just wasn't getting it. I was treated like a second class citizen. Now I know how Mr. Buffett makes all his money, as usual at the consumer's expense. GE 28.6 Cu. Ft. French Door Fridge - First, let me say that we take responsibility for purchasing this refrigerator 13 months ago (1 month past GE’s measly one-year warranty), despite all the bad reviews we read online. At $1,000 off the average retail price for the size fridge we needed it was a deal we couldn't refuse.

Now let me say that we are living the nightmare of all bad GE fridge reviews rolled into one, for which we blame GE. A couple of days ago our fridge started making the infamous 'noise' so many reviewers comment on. The freezers and refrigerator sections started warming up - again, as all too many reviewers comment on. Finally, we noticed the temp/control console on the front door of the fridge wasn't registering correct temps. Next came the insult to injury...

Thank goodness we purchased as much extended warranty as was available. In hindsight, GE's measly offering of only 1 year of warrant should have been a huge red flag. I called the extended warranty company, described the issues, was told they would dispatch GE to fix the fridge and that we should hear something from GE within 24 hrs.

Welp, a little more than 24 hrs later…nothing, nuttin', nada from GE. When I called GE to inquiry about the service ticket, I was summarily told 'they don't service my area'...end of discussion. No apology; no empathy. Not to put too fine a point on this, but...the same company peddling cheaply-made, crappy products has the luxury of declining repair of the same crappy product simply because where their crappy product is located isn't convenient for them...?? Really??!?!! I move on to my digression...

When I call the warranty company back they finally tell me another order was placed yesterday for repair (which no one called to tell us) via A&E Factory Repair Services, the company reviews of which leave me nervous, to say the least.

GE, I won't forget this appliance nightmare any time soon and the total sum of issues and inadequate performance that has all too many people like ourselves irate and disenfranchised. I will boycott GE altogether going forward, and make every effort to tell anyone and everyone I know about GE's apparent business model of producing substandard products, with little or no support for the crappy inferior products they peddle, and no concern whatsoever for the consumers harmed by GE's turn of the quick, more profitable buck.

We purchased a GE ref. french door style in late 2010. Began to use it 2011. 2012, ice maker began to freeze over. We had purchased a warranty, thank God. Tech changed entire ice maker and worked for about 10months. It froze over again, and changed the motherboard. That lasted about a day. Changed O ring or something, that did not work. Changed something else, that did not work. I believe he changed every part in the unit, except the compressor. Now GE states that it is not able to be repaired and gave 30 days to decide on a buyout for $749 dollars. Other than the ice maker freezing up, the unit works well and all parts have been changed. After reading other horror stories, I feel lucky that it is only the ice maker not working. Will never buy another GE product again.

I bought a new refrigerator for my tenant, because the GE refrigerator in situ (all of 7 years old) wasn't working properly. I was told by the repairman that it would be cheaper to buy a new one than repair that one. So I bought her a brand new one. Idiotically, I chose another GE. Within a week, my tenant was complaining (and rightly so) about it. It made ear-splitting noises all night long, and the freezer section wasn't operating properly. Three times we called for GE repair. Three times they came out, and three times they shrugged and said "it is working up to standards." Some standards! An igloo would be more efficient.

By the way, the GE washing machine in the same apartment (barely 3 years old) just gave up the ghost. Repairman said it would cost $500 to fix, and I'd be better off buying a new one. Am I expected to buy brand new appliances every year? I will NEVER buy another GE product. The company makes incredibly shoddy merchandise, gives buyers zero help, ignores complaints, and simply doesn't care. Once they get their money, they hightail out of your life faster than... well, faster than a GE appliance will break down. Which is pretty fast. Want a better washing machine than a GE? Get a rock and go down to the river. Want a better refrigerator than a GE? Go to the nearest dump and dig out some rusty old ice box from 1912. You'll be glad you did.

I spent the next 2 hrs contacting every GE troubleshooting phone number listed on Google! I gave up after calling every listing with NO results ~ Effort was FUTILE!

A few years ago, when I believed that GE had a better than average line of appliances, we purchased 3 of GE's Profile Appliances ~ Refrigerator, Microwave & Dishwasher. First to go was the Microwave! Next, the dishwasher! We had 2 different GE recommended repairmen in the house within 24 hrs. The 2nd repairman was a JOKE ~ he proceeded to burn out the control panel & then another part that I can't remember. I do remember that I paid for the part that he burned out. He left with the part & didn't comeback! The part was $165.00 ~ gone with the wind. Poof! GE agreed to replace the dishwasher for $550.00 replacement cost! Purchased a new French door GE unit (GFSL2KEXALS) in April 2009. Only saving grace with this story is that I bought extended warranty - which ends April 2014. At the end of Dec 2012, the freezer starting defrosting/refreezing (after which I had to pitch food because I was not inclined to each meat, etc. that had been defrosted and refrozen - didn't need to end up in hospital). Called GE service # at beginning of 2013. A tech came out on Jan 11 and said sliders needed to be replaced - door not allowing good seal for freezer door. Order parts and installed them on Jan 9, 2013. Called GE Svc on Feb 1 - freezer continued to defrost/refreeze. New tech on Feb 8 couldn't find why it was doing this and called his office. They said to order new sensor and circuit board. Another tech installed these items on Feb 18th.

All seemed fine until few days before Christmas 2013 when problem of defrosting/refreezing started again. This time I had temperature gauges in top and bottom. Fridge section got up to 48 degrees one time I looked at it and freezer has been almost 60 degrees. Called GE Svc on Dec 24 and set appt for tech. Tech out on Dec 30; looked at earlier repairs and order a 2nd sensor (not the one originally replaced - there are 2 sensors), and a motor DC Evap ASM. Also divider and basket rails since I was having problems with ice tray slipping and small basket sticking. Jan 7, 2014 tech replaced with new parts.

I waited 2 hours before placing food back in fridge/freezer. Several hours later back to defrosting/refreezing. Removed food again and Jan 8 - set up call for Jan 9. Jan 9 a different tech arrives, explained problem to him (as well as now I have a whirring or buzzing sound). He reviewed paperwork from other techs and started his check. Called his office and remotely sent them info from circuit board. Final call was that I had opened/closed doors 20,000 times since Feb 2013 and that was the problem. I asked if there was a certain amount of times I could open/close doors. No one can answer this question.

Called GE Consumer Relations office and was told I could not get a replacement - not 3 separate times in a year (even though it was at least 7 times. Level 2 person said shows I opened/closed doors approx. 55 times a day - only person here and don't do it that many times a day I know). Also told me the 3 separate times needs to take in account what warranty is on parts replaced - could be 90 to 120 days. Told him in that case, I could never qualify for 3 "separate" calls in 12 months. Basically my extended warranty is of no value and from what I've read about the same problems others have had with a GE unit, they are getting the same can't replace or a fix of we'll give you a "small" $ amount for you to replace the unit.

As others have said, for a unit that was so new (mine not 3 yrs old when it started) to have these problems with the amount that was paid for the unit is uncalled for. And to tell a customer that they open/close a unit too much - what about a family of 4 or 5; I know they open/close their unit much more. My daughter has same unit and not problem - 5 in her family. I would like to see something in writing stating that there is a certain # of times a day doors can be opened/closed before this problem will occur - but will not hold my breath for that. Last GE product I will buy. Will also write Home Depot (where purchased) and president of GE to voice my displeasure and pass on the ridiculous 20,000 door open/close answer to the problem. Keeping my fingers crossed that the other GE products I bought (stove/microwave/dishwasher) at same time as fridge continue to work okay.

GE grossly overcharged me for my refrigerator repair. First, let me say their "process" was legal but they hid behind 2 things: 1. Convince you you need a GE repair tech; 2. Get the appointment and service call without mentioning the 'service call' includes NO time; 3. Present you an estimate while they fix your issue ("you could have told me to stop" mentality); 4. Hide behind charging for the 'job'. Folks, here's what you are in for: (my repair was for an inverter replacement)
Total from the time technician called and was on the way to end of repair and out the door 45 minutes. Total service call/labor charges $165.93/.75hr=$221/hr.

Part was charged at $208.40, I could have bought for $120. I know they purchase for much less. They DO deserve a markup but 73% above what I could get it for???

Response from GE "Cares" (#GEcares, #GEMonogram): Don't care about excessive charges we charge by the job. My recommendation for any by the job repair company is when they diagnose from their 'house call' and give you an 'estimate', ask for a written diagnosis of the problem along with the estimate. Ask them some questions concerning time and do the math because the big boys will stick to their legal process to ** us rather than be concerned about their reputation. I'm certainly not wanting something for free and recognize they have overheads but the above numbers are true and I'm NOT a fan of GE at this point for sure. My original $6000+ investment in this fridge must signal sucker all over again.

They look great. As far as working ability, let's just say that I bought a couple of lemons. From the beginning I've had problems with both. My first service call was for the stove. The main oven and small oven didn't seem to work at the set temperature and the convection oven didn't heat at all.

The serviceman adjusted the temperature on the main oven and said that the small oven and convection oven could not be adjusted. I would have to learn how to cook with the temperatures as they were. That was in Jan 2009 and to this day, I have problems with the temperature. The middle part of the large 3 ring burner has burnt out and will cost over 300.00 to replace.

The fridge is even worse than the stove. I've replaced the plastic runners that hold the fruit and vegetable bins in place. They broke again and now the bins won't stay on the runners. The clear plastic door trays have all broken and are now held together by masking tape or have broken so badly that I am no longer able to use them. The sliding 1/2 shelf has broken off. The gasket on one of the doors has broken and the rubber around the door has torn. (Cost to repair is approx. 250.00) I have just had to replace the control board and compressor relay (total cost $402.17).

In 2009 I purchased a GE front load washer and dryer. The drum in the washer was replaced in the first year. My clothes never look clean. The whites are no longer white and in order to get any stains out I have to use the stain cycle which takes almost 3 hours to wash. Even bleach doesn't get the whites white. Dark colors come out with blotches on them and normally have to be rewashed. When we purchased our first appliances in 1985 all were Beaumark, which I believe were made by GE. I still have the fridge and the stove was given away in 2007 in working condition. There was no doubt in my mind that GE was my first choice in 2007 when an upgrade was in order. That is no longer the case. This will be my last GE purchase.

The last time the tech came out, he indicated it was a problem with the motherboard and should have been replaced before. So he replaced it in mid-2012. The fridge superheated again today, so probably not the motherboard unless that was also made in Mexico. I have a direct line to the Consumer Relations department (800-386-1215) for those still having issues with GE's "customer service" line. They can't do anything for you except schedule appointments. If I could, I would have given 0 stars for this product.

In 2007, I went to Sears and purchased all my new appliances. My GE refrigerator has been nothing but a headache. When it still was under warranty, I called GE for the warranty and was told it sounded like a main board and would cost approximately $800.00 to have them come out and fix the refrigerator that that part was not under warranty. The freezer freezes up, causing everything to ice up, then the ice maker stops working, the water stops working and the whole refrigerator and freezer get warm, ruining everything in there.

I have to unplug the unit and wait several days for the whole unit to defrost completely before I can plug it back in. It will then work for about 2 to 3 weeks and I have to repeat the whole process over. I had to go by a deep freezer just to keep my meat in so I stop losing all my groceries. Our fridge is 11 yrs old now. For the last 5 years, we have had repairs on this. Every time it has been the same problem, almost a yearly repair. This year, it had broken down twice. The issue is that the circulator fan gets frozen and stops circulating the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator and the whole system breaks down. The fan has been replaced on multiple times, wrong items were replaced once, a missing part was found once and the problem just persists.

This last time (is getting repaired this Saturday), the customer service person actually said, '"What do you expect from an 11-year-old refrigerator?" But these problems started from age 6 of the refrigerator! I have seen and heard numerous complaints about this/similar issue, as well as some of the repairmen said that this is a common problem. Now, is there a design issue? If so, maybe we should start a class action suit against GE. Any suggestions, ideas, takers.

If I could rate my experience less than zero, I certainly would. I purchased a GE Microwave oven and, less than ten months after its manufacture - not the purchase date but the actual date of manufacture as posted on the manufacturer's label - the paint on the inside of the cabinet began to peel. At that time, they initially ignored my complaints until, after the third or fourth contact, they agreed to send out a service person to check the problem. The end result? They agreed to sell me a new microwave at a discounted price! Now, bear in mind, I had owned the oven for about seven months at this time and they were offering to sell me another one for around six or seven hundred dollars! What a deal! And then I could start saving up for the Next Year's model!!!

Well, it has now been over a year, half of the roof on the inside of the cabinet is peeled away and the push buttons no longer work properly, requiring the user to push, then inch around the general location of the desired button to activate it. Want to set the timer? Be careful you don't activate the express button! Want to set timed cooking? Allow yourself a couple of minutes just to get the appropriate buttons pushed! GE's concept of customer service seems to be much like a prostitute who will 'service' you... for the right price. And once the price is paid, you get exactly that kind of service for your money! - You get screwed!

I have never been so disappointed with customer service in my life. I understand that sometimes manufacturers can have a 'clinker' in the assembly line. But, the manufacturer should understand that as well and be prepared to make good on their error, not try to screw you twice! GE does not seem to care about their customers so I have officially washed my hands of them. I am going to have to purchase a new microwave - after only about a year and a half years on the one I now own - but it will, most assuredly not be a General Electric. I am buying something I know I can trust and getting an LG! And, since GE seems to be so intent on screwing their customers, I leave them with only two words in return... Screw You!

We have home warranty (thank God because the parts are SO EXPENSIVE. You be the judge before you buy GE. We purchased a side-by-side refrigerator some 7 years ago. It's been a total 7-year lemon. I can tell you we would never buy again another GE appliance in a million years. It has been repaired over and over again, numerous motherboards, the motherboard behind the dispenser as well. The ice maker went belly up, no ice, then it totally went haywire and all we could get was crushed ice. The heaters have been replaced about 4 times. We were frightened to go away on holiday, afraid of what we might find wrong with the fridge when we got back.

Do you know what a pain it is to have to empty the freezer section over and over again to defrost the back panel after the heater has broken. It is a right Royal Pain in the **. All the frozen food has to be removed and the back panel taken off to be able to defrost around the freezer coils!!! We have contacted GE many times. We also brought to their attention that the electrical contacts where the heater plugs into were scorched both sides!! Now, is this a major fire risk!! So the saga goes on. Yes, you guessed it, the auger in the freezer has come to a complete stop, will not deliver ice.

When we purchased this, no one told us that we would be subjected to continuous repairs and breakdowns of this appliance. It would be a great unit for the Red Green TV show. We have been corresponding with Head Office GE and we asked for a replacement fridge because of the lemon we purchased. "No," was the response, "We believe GE has been very fair to you"!!!!! Are we living on the same planet? If that's GE's fair practice they must be out to lunch! We have put up with this crappy fridge for 7 years, repairs, breaking down, emptying the freezer over and over again! It just is non-stop and now the auger has completely stopped working and does not deliver ice. We have to come up with another $1100 for a replacement. I bought this side by side GE counter depth refrigerator that has custom wood panels in April of 2008. It worked fine for 5 years then started leaking from the cold side door. Had GE repair out and they put a support piece in that fixed that problem. Shortly after that the freezer door started leaking. Had the repairman out and he replaced a plastic tube that didn't fix the problem. After researching the problem he finds that a new door is needed. Only problem is that the door is no longer available. GE offered to replace the fridge for $2900 dollars. I paid $4800 dollars for it originally.

After researching the serial number I find that the fridge was manufactured in June of 2004. So I paid full price for a 4 year old product that sat in a warehouse for 4 years. I would have close to $8000 dollars invested in a new fridge that would probably start leaking again in five years. Not going to happen. I am going to show everyone that comes by that I have to have a cup under the door of my GE to catch the water that flows at will from the freezer. I thought GE would be better at standing behind their products, but then again, they pay no federal tax to support the USA, so why would they do anything for me. All my appliances have always been GE, but no more. I will never buy another GE product.

Our 5-year old GE side-by-side refrigerator freezer wasn't cooling properly so we called the repair department. After the service man checked out the freezer he stated that it was leaking refrigerant and would probably cost about $800 to repair it. We were shocked to say the least. We were told, by both the repair man and all the various appliance sales people we visited later that day that, these days, we are "lucky" if a refrigerator lasts five to seven years. The manufacturers are using parts from China that are made so cheaply that the things just don't last. I find that deplorable.

I told the service man that we had our first refrigerator for thirty years. We bought a new one because we wanted something different so we gave the old one to our daughter as a second unit for her basement. She had it another four years and, when she sold her house, it was left in the basement there for the new owners. It could still be operating today for all I know. By the way that one was a Frigidaire.

Our second model was also a Frigidaire and that one operated twenty years as our main unit and then became our backup for another five. The repair man said that the manufacturers are looking forward to the day when my generation was gone as we are the ones that know how long refrigerators should/could really last. I just think that refrigerator (all appliance manufacturers really) should be ashamed of this controlled obsolescence attitude. Needless to say, we did not buy another GE as we heard from a reliable source, who shall remain nameless, that they are the worst.

I purchased a GE Profile Bottom Mount Refrigerator Model PDS20MBSBWW from the Home Depot in September 2006. Almost from the beginning, the refrigerator was unsatisfactory. It made loud noises - very loud knocking and gurgling sounds as if there was air or some kind of liquid flowing through the cooling mechanism, but it initially kept food in both the refrigerator and the freezer reliably cool. The interior cabinet design was poor, however, and I found it nearly impossible to store any type of large bottle or container without laying it on its side. It was also very hard to locate anything on any of the shelves because they were cramped and so close together.

What disturbed me most, however, was the complete failure of the refrigerator after only 6 years. It began to make loud pinging or clicking noises over and over every time the compressor tried to start, and the temperature control inside the refrigerator would either blink on and off or go completely black for hours at a time. The temperature in the refrigerator compartment also began to fluctuate widely, moving between 28 and 55. The unit seemed to have a hard time starting and then, once started, it seemed to run for hours. It would run and run and run and then shut off after the temperature in the refrigerator dropped to 27 degrees (It was set at 38).

One day, the clicking noise continued for more than 6 hours and the compressor never started. I finally unplugged the unit as I had to leave the house and feared that a fire might start as a result of some type of overheating. When I plugged it in hours later, the same annoying clicking or pinging sound went on again, so I finally unplugged it for good and purchased a small dorm sized refrigerator just for essentials while considering what to do.

Based on the many reviews I've read about the shockingly poor quality of GE refrigerators (I understand that they are the most likely of any major brand to fail), I've decided to replace the refrigerator rather than trying to have it repaired. For many years I had wonderful, reliable GE products, like refrigerators and washing machines that lasted for 25 or 30 years. I'm shocked at the poor quality of the products that the company produces now, and I'm really surprised that their top-of-the-line Profile product is so poor given the hefty price they charged for it (I paid about $1200 for a refrigerator that lasted only 6 years!).

Given this experience, I will not be purchasing any large GE or Hotpoint appliances again. Another sad tale of shoddy products produced by a once proud American company, I fear. It's very sad to think that a trusted firm has squandered its reputation for quality by manufacturing products with cheap, unreliable parts and charging consumers unreasonably high prices just to generate extraordinary profits.

No mention of doing a diagnostic. The problem persisted and I called support. They then informed me that a diagnostic needed to be done over the phone. I was at work so had to leave later in the day and then do the diagnostic. The problem was my compressor. At this point, my freezer and main refrigerator were both warm. A support person was deployed the next day (after much persistence on my part to not to delay it for a few days). This support person came in and asked why my energy saver was on, then turned it off and said it was not the compressor but possibly would need Freon. He left me a number to call about this.

I did call when there was no improvement, but he never called back even after leaving three messages. Another repair person was deployed the next evening. He was more thorough and actually looked into the workings of the refrigerator. The computer board was affected and needed to be ordered. The board did not get installed until 4 days later. I was without a refrigerator for 8 days. When I contacted GE to provide feedback on their poor service along with the service I received from the field support, they certainly sympathized, but were unwilling to reimburse me for food and medication I lost due to this elongated time period. Their response to me was that it was not in my warranty.

I don't think their poor service was in my warranty either but that is what I got. I think the least they could do in response to their poor service was to reimburse the loss of the contents of my refrigerator. I have now written a letter to the president, since I was not allowed to go past their management services.

The comment checked heater & controls was manifestly untrue because, as the tech stated, he had neither the skills nor equipment to check the controls. I told him that since he had done nothing to find the cause of the ice buildup it would probably continue to occur. Within 10 days, as I predicted, the same problem recurred. I scheduled another service call.

Service call #2 1/10/2012: The tech said the control board was defective. He defrosted the fridge again & installed a new board for $212.49. Technician comment on bill: "Bad control board replaced test ok." Within a week, the same problem was back yet again, indicating that the problem had been misdiagnosed & the board had not been defective. So the $212.49 cost of the replacement was (my) wasted money. I called A&E yet again.

Service call #3 1/19/2012: The tech defrosted the fridge a third time & ordered replacement defrost & freezer temp sensors. Technician comment on bill: “Defrosted Evap again. Ord new defrost & freezer.”

Service call #4: On 1/25/12, the tech installed the replacement defrost & freezer temp sensors. The fridge has now been operating okay for 18 months. I have my fingers crossed. If it fails again, it is trash. In any event, it is the last GE fridge I will ever buy.

Lessons Learned: Where to start? When I engaged the expert GE repair service to which GE directed me, I expected a technician with the skills & equipment to diagnose & correct any problem with my GE appliance. For a billing rate of $129.00 per hour, this is surely a reasonable expectation (The hourly billing rate at my auto dealer's service shop is much less & they have all the necessary skills & equipment to service a much more complex machine).

To characterize the performance of these inadequately trained & equipped technicians as expert GE repair service borders on fraud and I hold GE responsible for my problem with this firm since they directed me to them. I called GE rather than a local repairman thinking that I would be assured of competent service, even though the labor billing rate was double the local rate. Obviously I was naive in expecting GE to assure the performance of the firms they recommend for expert GE repair service.

I have subsequently been told that there is no way to check the control board & circuitry of a GE fridge with a computer as is done with autos. So, the only way to find a fault is to trade out components until the fridge operates correctly. If this is true, then GE is guilty of very shoddy engineering. Incidentally, the control board replaced in Service call #2 had just been replaced 4 months earlier by a local repairman at a parts & labor cost of $299.50 to stop water from overflowing the ice maker, flooding the kitchen & the finished basement beneath. That repair was successful so the original board probably was defective.

At this point, then, I have spent $717.87 & endured over a month of hassle to get a 6 year old GE fridge repaired. Meanwhile my 20 year old Maytag in the basement has never needed repair. It's obvious to me from this experience that the historic quality of GE appliances is no more & that GE feels no responsibility to assure that competent service is available for their appliances.

One of the biggest laughs we got on TV at the time this was happening was the GE Works ad campaign. GE may be working for buyers of aircraft turbines, medical equipment, etc. but certainly not for appliance buyers like me.

About 4 WEEKS ago, I called GE to let them know that my 7 yr old Refrigerator was "OUT". Same thing happened last year. That occasion, I was able to get it running. This time, no such luck. GIVEN THAT I AM A SENIOR (75) and it is July/Aug (and I take meds that need to be in the fridge), and here I am with NO working fridge.

It took more than a week to get a tech in. Then I was told parts would have to be ordered. A week later, there is a heavy box at my door. It's a compressor and other parts!! The tech comes back a week later. He tells me that GE shipped the wrong parts. He finished and told me the freezer would come on quickly, but the fridge would take 12 hours as it might be "defrost mode"... At 1 am in the morning, I woke up and checked the fridge... Yes, you guessed right, fridge was hotter than the 70 of the night temp! The freezer was a little cold...felt like it was the temp of what a fridge would be...

The tech left the parts where they were on my floor. Did not take them with him. He said "Call me if there is a problem." He left his cell #. I called the next morning but he never got back to me. I then called GE again.....so, here I am, almost ONE month later, and still nothing from GE. They are coming back on Tuesday, the 6th of August. I eat mostly veggies and beans. All this needs to be in the fridge, not the freezer. I weighed 104lbs 4 weeks ago at my doctor appt. I cannot imagine what I weigh now...not eating right...and I just don't have the money to eat out 3 times a day.

They even have different phone lines for: customers that have owned for less than ONE year, customers that are under guarantee, and customers that have zilch. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON GE! Also, the feet on the front of this fridge scratch my floors unmercifully. They have never been right. I have already had them in for my dishwasher, too....That was a recall by them...I now wonder when the stove will "go". Yes, I have three units GE... They all match, that is, the Profile line....

GE Profile Side by Side Refrigerator - GE Consumer Relations Failure. Purchased the high end looking GE French Door Style refrigerator in 2010 - about $3,000 purchase price. Just outside of the one year warranty, the refrigerator stopped cooling sufficiently. Spoke with GE Consumer Relations Department, and they agreed that although just outside of the one year warranty, the refrigerator should not have failed; GE extended the warranty for one year. I lost use of the fridge for 2 months in the middle of the summer.

Now, just outside of the extended one year warranty, the refrigerator fails again, with exactly the same symptoms. It is now a little more than two years old. Call GE Consumer Relations again with all of the earlier documentation, including its promise that they will keep a digital record of the earlier problem. This time, I get a very friendly, 'yes man' - we will take care of it, just send me all of the earlier service tickets, "It's not going to be a problem, we will fix it...." etc. Now going on two months later, can't manage to get the GE guy on the phone to determine exactly how they are planning to help me.

Now about two months later, without the use of the fridge, sitting in my kitchen, with no substantive assistance or help from GE, I have had to rent a fridge in the interim. GE then notifies me weeks later that they will split the costs of the repairs to this repeatedly defective, lemon fridge. Clearly backing off from the "we will take care of it, don't worry" initial talking points.

If you are not prepared to buy a replacement refrigerator if yours breaks down, DO NOT BUY A GE REFRIGERATOR. The GE Consumer Relations Department has a fancy voice mail system that is manned by people who will read you the appropriate talking points for your particular problem. The presentation is clear, convincing and designed to lead you, the consumer to believe that they will replace or repair your defective refrigerator quickly and with little time investment or hassle on your party. THE REALITY is that you will have to repeatedly call, email, mail and fax GE in order to get a simple return phone call. And the support people will let a couple of weeks go by between return calls.

Clearly the strategy is to delay, deny and defend against any repair claims. It must work, because they keep doing it. The GE plan seems to be to frustrate its customers until they stop calling for help, make it less expensive to just buy a new refrigerator rather than to try to get GE's help, and inconvenience its customers to such extreme lengths that most people will just give up. These refrigerators are defective, and scheduled to fail. GE should recall them, refund people their money, and get out of the business if they can't handle it. They should stick to jet engines and PCBs. I am now looking to purchase a new refrigerator. Anything but a GE fridge. Anyone in the market for a three year old, $3K fridge that doesn't work?

First incident, it was leaking water under the meat drawer creating a sheet of ice. The motherboard was replaced for a few hundred dollars plus the service call fee. Second time, the same problem except the freezer was not freezing food properly and ice looked clear and watery. Another motherboard was put in and a new ice line... 3rd time, an addition of Freon for the same reasons. 4th time, more Freon added and lines cleaned and dusted... 5th time, GE agreed to waive fees, but could not give us a warranty for any parts. I agreed, but now the freezer is not freezing at all and the ice makers isn't working at all. We are using our cheap overflow fridge/freezer in the garage to hold bags of ice and frozen foods. Amazingly, that fridge works great. I will not call GE repair again. We will be purchasing a new refrigerator this weekend. I wish I had read all the reviews before purchasing the Profile. Then the liner had a hairline crack due to it being frozen. The technician even said there was no sign of impact. Sears would only stick plastic over it. (We did not allow that due to germs around the plastic.) Then the ice maker broke. Again Sears only has a Mon. or Friday repair days. 6 weeks later it was fixed. Then I was getting so many ice cubes, that I would open the freezer drawer and they would fly out everywhere. Not long after..... the freezer went up to 18 and fridge to 48. Sears once again came, but it was cooling down by then..... but they ordered a new circuit/electronic board. 1 week later, when it was changed, it had a burn on the circuit board. NOW the ice maker won't again. I called Sears to have another technician come out. Ends up the technician was told it was for our microwave. Frustration with Sears!! We purchased the extended warranty and it is so bad that they will not even extend it another year at this point. Through the years we have told GE and the warranty company that this is a lemon and asked for a replacement model. It was declined and now after 6 years GE has agreed to give us a discount.

The issue is that they are now giving us the discount based on the refrigerator being old. This is completely unfair and very aggravating as a consumer and shareholder. If you look at the records you can see clearly that this matter was not taken care of as it should have been. We are not asking for something for free. We are simply asking GE to do what is right and fair to get a new GE refrigerator at a fair discount amount not based on how old the refrigerator is now...

As soon as the warranty expired, my refrigerator began leaking water and forming what the technician termed an "ice ball". I was told that this was a common problem and that I would need to purchase a heater kit. After much complaining, they offered to cover the cost of the kit, but I have to pay for the labor and of course, the trip fee. I am so disappointed with GE and their lack of true "customer care". Apparently this is a problem with many of the Profile models, so I can't understand why they won't issue a formal recall to pay for the fix. It shouldn't be the customer who has to pay.

I received a new ice maker from GE and was told I could replace it myself. I was then told that the water filter had to be changed every 3 months (not 6 months as advertised) in order for the ice maker to function properly. Cost per filter is at least $35 apiece if you shop hard online.

MB blowout #1 occurred shortly before the 5th anniversary in June, 2012. It was covered by the extended warranty I purchased from Lowe's. MB blowout #2 occurred the day before yesterday, one year + 3 weeks after the last one was replaced. Actually, what happened is that everything in the freezer melted and the refrigerator went to 55+ degrees. Hours later, after I flicked the breaker on and off a few times, it started working again. Then it was off again and now back on. For how long?

At the suggestion of a very reputable local appliance repair outfit (Stanley Repair at Stanleysservice.com here in Richmond, VA), I ended up at the GE consumer affairs department (800-386-1215, option #5). Since I am now outside of any warranty, the best I could negotiate was the purchase of a new motherboard from them for $87.58 which included tax and shipping. That board retails anywhere from $170 to $215 online, plus tax and shipping. GE is giving me a 5-year warranty on the new board, which is pretty good, I almost hate to admit.

GE Monogram items purchased - 6 years ago we purchased and installed an entire GE Monogram appliance kitchen: cooktop, cooktop vent, dishwasher, built-in full sized freezer, built-in full sized refrigerator, built-in microwave, built-in double ovens and a wine refrigerator. We bought these all from Pacific Sales for a total purchase of $18,000.00 + tax and installation. Installation was contracted with the preferred Pacific Sales installer in our area. Albeit they are independent contractors.

Reasons for purchasing GE Monogram - Our research told us these were high-end, professional, quality appliances that would have a huge history of quality standing behind them for longevity and reliability. GE Monogram longevity and reliability - WE HAVE ALL OF THE REPAIR BILLS FOR ALL OF THESE REPAIRS.

REFRIGERATOR: Within one month of installation, it was developing mold inside the refrigerator especially behind the drawers and shelves on the door. This was eventually fixed, but we still get mold. We asked to have some of the drawers and trays replaced due to the mold. GE flatly refused. Approximately 1 year later, we had a problem that it would not stay cold and had to have it repaired. This cost approx $350.00, plus all of the food that was thrown away. Approximately 18 months later, the same thing happened again. Again, approximately $350.00 plus all of the food that was thrown away. Today, SUNDAY June 30, 2013, it has the same problem. We can't get it repaired until hopefully tomorrow, Monday. Again, it will most likely be another $350.00 and the loss of a FULL REFRIGERATOR of food. We just went to the market. Swell.

FREEZER: In 2011 the freezer ceased to work due to a buildup of ice in the bottom, preventing air circulation. Repair bill was $350.00 + loss of a freezer FULL of food. In 2012 the generator went out. Cost of repair was $1,400.00 + the loss of a freezer full of food. The freezer was down for 1 week due to unavailability of parts via GE. COOKTOP: 2012 the electronic ignitors quit working. Had to be replaced. Cost of repairs approx $200.00. As of today, they are starting to act up again and getting ready to be replaced again.

MICROWAVE: In 2012 the magneto went out and needed to be replaced. Approx cost of repairs was $300.00 and no use for 1 week, again waiting on part from GE. The first part delivered ended up being the wrong part, which was ordered and needed to be reshipped. Another week. DOUBLE OVENS: Earlier this year, the fan bearing in the top oven went out and needed to be replaced.

DISHWASHER: This leaks when it is running. There is usually a puddle of water under the door once it is done and there are usually drip marks down the front of it as it completes it cycle... I need to have it looked at as well. COOK TOP VENT: It runs fine. We have not had repairs to this... yet. There is a truly annoying thing about this appliance. The bezels on the halogen lights in the vent just fall off on a regular basis. Scares the crap out of us when they fall off, bounce off the stainless steel edge of the cook top and roll across the tile floor. Picking them up is deadly for the skin as they are extremely hot when the lights are on and can't be picked up without protection. Been burned badly a couple of times at first. This has happened since day one.

We bought these in good faith. $18,000.00 seven years ago was and is a lot of money for appliances. We believed the GE brand to be reputable and solid products. Our experience with our GE Monogram Professional Appliances is that they are far and away from professional grade appliances. We are HUGELY disappointed, disgusted and sick of paying the repair bills every several months. The freezer and refrigerator are the biggest disappointment, especially for how expensive they are and the vast amount of food that has been thrown away due their consistent failure. We now keep a small refrigerator running in the garage as a backup should they fail again. Currently, it is full with food that will spoil the quickest waiting for a repairman for this newest failure.

Bottom line, we will NEVER EVER RECOMMEND GE APPLIANCES TO ANYONE and in fact recommend they RUN AS FAST AS THEY CAN FROM GE APPLIANCES BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE. By the way, we don't send in complaints like this. We figure things can break periodically and need to be fixed. This has been, in our opinion, excessive!! Especially given the price, the age of the items and the claimed quality of these PROFESSIONAL quality appliances. We believe we should be compensated in some way for all of the continuing repair bills at minimum. We would like GE to do something that makes these constant repairs stop, especially those related to spoiled food. OH, the wine refrigerator has not had any problems to date. GE can build a good wine refrigerator it appears.

It was replaced under warranty. At the same time, the repair tech noticed the freezer compressor was bad so it was replaced, under warranty. Now, the freezer will not get cold and the ice maker won't work. Now that the unit is 2+ years old, GE wants me to go through an authorized repair provider at my expense. We bought all GE Profile appliances just 5 years ago. The dishwasher leaves grout and spots all over glasses. The stove shuts over if it gets above 400 degrees and the buttons freeze and won't work. THE FRIDGE is the worst. I constantly have to wipe out mold. The ice maker already went out - I had to replace. The fan in the fridge went out and I called service to have it replaced - $99 service charge plus the part and labor almost $400... He was here literally 15 minutes! Now, the only person to touch it is GE repairman and, lo and behold, now the little ice shoot door that is supposed to close all of a sudden gets stuck causing frost/ice formation in the freezer AND the water line leaked (we KNOW there was no leak whatsoever before the service call) causing severe water damage to our wood floors, cabinets and even entered the adjoining room wall and cabinets. Our entire kitchen has to be replaced. Thanks, GE. NEVER again will I buy a GE product.

GE Refrigerator Model # PSHS6RGXCDSS - For the last 1 and 1/2 years, we have had a problem with the shelving and baskets in the freezer falling. I have been thinking that it was the weight of the items but after close inspection, it appears that the interior walls have expanded. Just recently, the cup drive at the rear of the icemaker auger broke. On June 14, 2013, I phoned my extended warranty company about the cup drive and the shelving problem. They advised that the plastic cup drive part was not covered. They also advised that the shelving problem was not covered either as the problems seem to be a design flaw. They gave me the number to GE's customer relations and I called. GE's response was that for around $230, they would send me a shelving conversion kit to rectify the problem.

When asked if it was a known design flaw, they would not say. I told them I would wait on their recommendation to spend my money to rectify their engineers' screw-up. Today, I went to a local appliance parts store to get the plastic cup drive to keep the ice from going out the back of the ice bin ($46.50). I explained to the salesman about the shelving problem. He got on the phone and contacted GE Parts to see what he would find out. He was transferred to service dept. Service department stated that was a parts problem and was transferred back to parts. When nobody answered, he hung up. He then called a reputable local appliance repair service that is an authorized GE repair service.

He was told by them that GE knows about the problem and it is caused by the defrost cycle lasting too long but that GE will not recognize this as a manufacturer defect. He stated that the shelving kit is what GE is pushing for the repair and is charging the customer and not owning up to their design problem. Maybe a letter from an attorney and lawsuit in my local small claims court will get GE's attention. It will cost them more in attorney fees than what they would get from me in the purchase of the shelving kit.

I have had my GE Profile french door refrigerator for 5 years. I purchased it at Lowe’s and had the extended warranty that expired 6 months ago. I had a serviceman out several times during the warranty to check the fridge because my food was freezing in the refrigerator. He told me to keep the energy saver switch in the off position. My icemaker stopped working a year or so ago but started working again and the plastic parts in my freezer are breaking due to the cold and ice. Now my icemaker is not working again.

I did the recommended troubleshooting and diagnostic test and nothing. It also seems that the temperature on my freezer keeps going up and when I tried to reset it goes to -6 but will not cool to that. When I pressed the colder button for the freezer, it should take me down -1, -2, -3, etc., but it won't. I took like the others paid $2,400 for this refrigerator and it is only 5 years old. GE customer service representative are curt and disrespectful. The service is nil. I'm disgusted and I sold my GE stock.

GE refrigerator gss25lgmfww - I've had this refrigerator for 11 years. 3 years into it, the motor that crush and dispense the ice went bad. 7 1/2 years later, the motherboard shorted out. Looking at the underside of the board, it had flash marks from being so close to the metal frame of the refrigerator, no flash paper to protect it. At the same time, the temperature controller shorted out due to the motherboard going bad. It was impossible to clean the coils in the back of the refrigerator. Very poor research and development. I've had other GE products that also haven't lasted long. This will be the last GE product I purchase. Years ago, a refrigerator would last decades. Now you're lucky to last maybe 10. The government needs to come in and require them to warranty them for at least 15 years. If not, we'll be filling up a lot of dumps really quick. I had a friend who went to China to see about manufacturing an appliance. The first question asked to him was, how long do you want it to last?

First, the refrigerator has always dripped condensation off inside the fridge since the date of purchase. This past weekend, the refrigerator put itself in defrost mode three times in five days. The refrig ticked like a time bomb, had an orange light glowing in the back of the freezer and had the normal "defrosty" smell. Unplugging the refrig to stop the defrost and get the unit to reset does not work. I was forced to call the repairman who replaced the freezer fan, which NEVER did work correctly. The temperature control and timer in the defrost unit was also changed. The result? GE billing me $200 for repair.

Four days later, the refrig put itself into defrost again with the ice in the freezer again defrosting. I turned up the temperature control and waited nearly four minutes for the defrost to turn off and the compressor to turn on. Obviously, the unit is not repaired. My opinion is that GE is foisting poorly designed products with defective parts off on the unsuspecting American public. Forget about customer service. All they want is your money. It’s all about making service jobs these days.

He called GE Tech Support but got no help. He suggested we replace the seals on the freezer drawers and called the store to get an estimate for the parts. The store was unable to give him an estimate at this time, so the tech will have to call me with the estimate.

GE Profile side by side Refrigerator - 3 years old: A few weeks ago, we tried to use our ice maker on the door and it would not work. The water works but there's no ice. We removed the bin and found old ice that looked cloudy and shrunk in size. We dumped the ice out, put the bin back in and waited to see if ice maker worked. It would not. However the water worked. We then started noticing that the freezer was defrosting and the refrigerator was warming up. We checked the settings and it read 37 in the freezer and 57 in the fridge. We tried to set them back to factory settings which was 0 and 37; however, the settings would not hold.

We unplugged the unit, waited a few minutes and plugged it back in and it automatically went to the factory setting of 0 and 37. It would hold the setting until the freezer door was opened. Once the door was opened, the settings went back to 37 and 57. We had to unplug it again and have it go back to the factory settings. As long as the freezer door remains closed, the refrigerator holds its factory settings.

We are waiting for a GE repairman tomorrow to fix this problem. I will make a comment once he checks this out and tries to fix it. I am very upset as this is the most expensive refrigerator we've ever purchased and it is not working after such a short period of time. My cheap model lasted almost 25 years without a problem.

During the extended warranty period, I had a serviceman come and inspect the ice cube maker as it didn't shut off when full. He looked at it at the time, but advised it was a design flaw and nothing could be done. Fast forward to last 2 weeks, extended warranty expired 2 years ago, a different service man called as the freezer compartment was not freezing with wide movement in the temperature and eventually the fridge department was acting in a similar way.

Upon their inspection, advised there is a gas leak and fixing it would not be a guarantee as the location of the leak cannot be detected. Additionally, the rubber trim around the doors was ripping and causing the door to remain ajar. To replace both french doors, the material cost would be $500 + installation. Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed in needing to replace the fridge as fixing it was going to well exceed $1,000 and no guarantees. Throwing away $2,400+ in 6 years is unacceptable on all levels and I would never recommend this product to anyone. On a side note at the same time, we also purchased a GE gas stove and dishwasher but nothing has happened... yet.

I have a GE Refrigerator (Fridge) with model no. GSL22JFPHBS and serial no. RG202756 that obviously is a lemon design, and I’m not happy. The main control board has failed. Symptoms are similar to those described by many other owners and service technicians. I contacted GE in the USA today and they confirmed that this model of GE fridge was produced with a main control circuit board that had suffered from higher than acceptable failure rates (MTBF). The warranty on the main circuit board was extended to 5 years as a result, a portion of which covered only the part replacement and did not include the labor to do the replacement (this is fine because any grade 6 student can do the job in under 10 minutes with a 1/4" nut driver).

It is highly disappointing to learn, after years of poor performance by this fridge, that the main control board is the culprit. I would accept that the control boards from one supplier were "built on a Friday by an employee that didn't give a damn on that day", except for the fact that there have been other problems with this same fridge model and serial no. The ice maker quit working because of a broken plastic cam in the mechanism. This I repaired by replacing the cheaply designed and built brittle plastic cam part with a piece of metal and epoxy. The water dispenser quit working because of a design flaw known to GE. The water supply line was routed too close to the rear of the freezer door and the line continually froze up. GE produced a 'heater kit' to remedy this obvious design flaw, charging customers around $70 for the part, minus labor.

I spent $11 at a local electronics shop to purchase some resistors, hook-up wire, scotch lock connectors, and enough foil heat tape to build 10 of the exact same 'kits' to repair 10 of these water dispensers. The 2-way water supply valve has failed. The condenser fan motor has failed. On and on... yet the fridge in basement keeps running and running, with zero repairs in over 20 years! GE needs to do something for us on this fridge. Without some serious customer service attention and the replacement of this main control board, we would not ever buy another product (fridge, clock radio, light bulb) ever again.

It is time to move production of GE components from overseas back to North America. Stop building junk! Question: What can you do for us to compensate for this piece of junk fridge? It requires replacement of the main control circuit board, a retail cost of ~$170 without labor. I am not happy (and aware of the junk that GE builds).

First, the ice flap at the dispenser started to fail to close. I called a service tech and was told that the doors were not designed properly, and that the ice flap was just a start of the problems. That moisture around the door seal was caused by poor design. I contacted GE customer service about the doors after discovering online that there had been a recall on them, but that it had expired. Customer service rep was extremely rude and stated that if I wanted the problem fixed, I would have to pay for the doors myself and that they would pay for the service call. Wasn't having that so after many calls and being passed along to different supervisors, I finally wore them down and they agreed to replace them at no cost. The repair guy arrived and exchanged the doors. He stated that I was one of only a few that he knew had gotten it done for nothing, as most customers had paid almost $500 for the doors and shipping.

Next issue was the ice bucket. It broke a huge piece from the feed gate and dropped it into a glass of iced tea, where it promptly cut my mouth while crunching the ice with my teeth. Not a bad cut, but enough to bleed a little. I bought the part locally and fixed it myself. Next was the ice cut off paddle spring which broke. The paddle would not return to position to stop the ice maker from dumping when full. Fixed that myself. Last item recently was another huge piece of clear plastic in the ice that was dispensed. Found the auger to be broken in several pieces and will not push ice down properly.

This GE unit is a total piece of junk. It looks great, but all the various parts that should be robust are of poor design. I guess the president of GE is too busy hobnobbing with his buddy, the POTUS, or evading a way to pay taxes on the company profit. The present management have taken a once revered and great company name to a second rate disaster. The new ice bucket assembly is going to cost me $145.00! It will come with the same exact crappy parts that originally failed, so the problem will just re-manifest itself at a later date.

Why there has not been a class action suit over these units is a mystery. Why there has not been a major personal injury or choking death suit over the plastic pieces in the ice is a miracle. Last GE appliance I will ever own! If you read this, I recommend that you do not buy one of their products.

I bought a new GE Monogram built-in refrigerator and freezer in October 2006. I chose them because they looked liked Sub Zeros, but were less expensive. I paid nearly $7,000 for the pair. Since day one, the refrigerator never got cold enough on the 6 setting so I have kept it at the 9 setting. Additionally, it does not dehumidify; hence, black mold grows in the interior and it creeps into sealed food jars. Because of the excess moisture, the shelves and anything else made of metal is rusting. I have had to take apart the interior every 6 months and clean everything with bleach, dry it and put it back together. I also keep two desiccator units inside the fridge to slow the mold growth.

I contacted a repairman several years ago to see if he could figure out the problem. He could find no reason as to why the refrigerator would not dehumidify the interior other than to say it was poor design on the part of the refrigerator. Two weeks ago, the thermostat went out (the fridge is less than 7 years old). The first repairman I contacted came out and refused to service the fridge. He told me that his company would not service the GE Monogram built-ins and he didn't know of anyone who would because they were such bad refrigerators. I called GE and they sent out a repairman who replaced the thermostat at a cost of nearly $500. The repairman said this should stop the mold growth too. Waiting to see on that (I am not holding my breath).

Anyway, now there is a new problem. The fan blows out tiny, white plastic, dust particles into the refrigerator compartment. They cover the shelves and food in the fridge. If I wipe them up, there are more the next day (little piles of white dust coating everything). I know that this is probably evidence of something really expensive preparing to break down. I hate this fridge. I hate GE. I will never buy anything from them ever again. Not even so much as a frigging light bulb. My dearest wish is that the company goes bankrupt and folds completely so that they can never screw over another consumer again. I am kicking myself now. I should have just spent the extra $1,600 and bought the Sub Zeros.

I bought a GE Profile Refrigerator model # PSCS5RGXCFSS in June 2010. I did not buy extended warranty. For the last couple of months, I have noticed that the milk was going bad quickly and so were the cold cuts. I started checking temp and found it was not keeping the correct temp. Then I found the evaporator inside the fridge in the back to have a lot of buildup of ice (like a block). I tried thawing the fridge and it did it again and again! Finally, I decided we needed a repairman. When we took everything out of the fridge and freezer, we then noticed rust in the ice bucket around the metal parts and on the drive auger (that metal piece at the back that turns the auger in the bucket) that looks like a U. So who knows how long we've been having rust in our drinks? It looks like it's pretty bad and has been there a while (scary).

The repairman says the thermistor needs to be replaced for the fridge temp (evaporator problem) and the bucket and auger assembly and the auger drive dispenser needs replacing. GE has agreed to pay for either the parts or the repair but not both. I feel I've been taken advantage of! After reading all about GE refrigerator problems and seeing how many complaints there are, I feel like they are selling very expensive, nice looking products that are made with inferior parts, parts that can cause health issues! What happened to the refrigerators that you bought years ago that did not have these problems? Lots of them are still working with no problems! No rust! No plastic shards in your ice or drinks!

We purchased GE French door refrigerator (model PGCS1PJZB SS) in May 2011, but started using it in January 2012. Almost from the beginning, we started having problems with the water dispenser (the water stopped flowing due to being frozen). We contacted customer service numerous times and each time, the technician would come claiming that the problem was fixed, but in 1 to 2 months, the problem would return. The last time it happened, I contacted customer service and spoke to the representative by the name of Josephine (called on February 19, 800-386-1215, ext. **) who sounded very nice and arranged for a technician to come and take care of the problem. When I asked if I would have to pay anything, she assured me that everything will be covered but when the repairman came, he informed me that only the house call was covered and repair will cost me around $200.

I tried to contact Josephine, but was transferred to another representative, Judy, who informed me that only Josephine, who became my case manager, can tell me why I had to pay for repair. Judy promised that Josephine would call me shortly. It happened on February 22 and to this day, I haven't heard from Josephine despite my numerous calls and messages. As of today, February 27, 2013, the problem still exists.

The interior is so complicated when it comes to cleaning that the sharp edges cut my fingers and it is impossible to get into crevices. The spill trays are useless as the liquid gets under the cracks and cannot be cleaned. I will certainly let it be known whenever the opportunity arises that the Profile GE is a substandard product in the areas I have complained about. Perhaps some testing in the practical use would be an asset.

Since then, the water stops working about 3 times a week. I have to unplug the fridge and open the freezer door for about 30 minutes, then plug it back in and wait about 10 minutes for it to work. Moral of the story: don't buy GE. They are cheap. I will be buying a new fridge this year, but it will not be GE. I did not ask for a service call to have it fixed - I can fix it. I simply want the part shipped to me. Customer Service was not helpful and simply said they would elevate the issue to a manager and it would be 48 hours before I heard from someone. I am indignant with the bad quality of the GE refrigerators in Brazil. A search on the Brazilian Google (www.google.com.br), with argument "reclamacoes refrigerador ge" (complaints refrigerator ge), returns more than 29.000 results.

Until this week, my experience with GE refrigerators was good; I had three in my life, since when I was born, in 1956. My daughter bought a new refrigerator, Brazilian model RFGE700, duplex, on 5 December, 2012. For two months, the refrigerator worked very well, but some days ago, a trouble appeared: although the freezer is freezing properly, the temperature of refrigerator compartment wasn't so cold, even when the thermostat is on the maximum cold. Today, Saturday, 16 February 2013, we verified there was no cold air circulating between the freezer and refrigerator (freezer fan problem?), exactly when the technical assistance was closed. It looked like a simple problem, but to my surprise, there are many complaints on the internet showing that it is a recurring problem since 2010, and many consumers who contacted the "GE Customer Service" were instructed to turn off the refrigerator for 24 hours, even if it means that you have to put all foods that were stored in the refrigerator in the garbage.

Some customers were advised to adopt this procedure several times, because the refrigerator went back to work and then returned the defect. Another strange detail in the refrigerator that my daughter bought is that the air outputs are partially blocked, internally, by material similar to Styrofoam. Is that normal? It's not necessary to mention our dissatisfaction with the purchase we made, and like many thousands of consumers, we are conscious that General Electric quality products are not that. Obviously, the problem is not only the defect shown in GE refrigerators, but lots of unsolved troubles or excessive delay in resolving defects by the Brazilian GE authorized service who apparently are unprepared for this "tsunami" of complaints and grievances. Can you help me?

The refrigerator comes with a yellow sticker on it. When it's removed, it tears the finish and leaves a mark. This was replaced and I didn't feel concerned because when it came, there was no sticker on it. It unfortunately has the same marred finish, so I assume they took it off in the factory. The microwave broke within 4 months. Every time I've had to have someone come out, they say they can only come on Wednesdays and they can't give any time frame - not even a four hour block so I have to take a whole day off of work.

None of the people I've spoken with at GE know why this is or offer a solution. Actually, one woman did early on in this saga and the appointment was scheduled with a contractor GE uses. Then they called me back and said they wouldn't let them come, and I was back to the Wednesday deal. All of these products were obviously substandard, customer service is substandard and I will vow to never purchase a GE product again.

I think we got the parts cost for the first motherboard covered by GE but not the labor which I thought was odd since the replacement of motherboard was an acknowledgement that there was a known issue. The latest issue is that ice won't come out because of a plastic piece on the back of the ice bin no longer rotates because it is cheap plastic that has been ground down. Never again GE!

When the freezer door was opened, a sheet of ice would fall down onto my kitchen floor from underneath the drawer. GE was called out and to my astonishment, the repair person asked if I had any cooking oil. He rubbed the oil on the bottom seals and pronounced the problem solved. Well of course, it was not.

A second call resulted in the replacement of the entire freezer drawer. The icing issue still persisted. A third call resulted in the repairman wondering if the inside cabinet had cracked. He explained that he had seen this before and it always results in GE having to replace the fridge. He went on to say that he was calling GE's engineers for advice on how to proceed and would call me on the next business day. He never called. I called GE, and they explained that they had no information on this service call other than parts having been ordered. They scheduled another service call for the installation of the mystery parts.

A week later, the parts did not arrive. They rescheduled the service call for a week later. Two days ago, I went to retrieve ice from the door dispenser and found that it had totally frozen over. I wish I had done my homework and research in 2008 prior to purchasing my GE Profile model PCF25MGWWW and spending $2,700 on something that barely keeps bottled water cool - let alone cold. We have had nothing but problems since day one, including shelving that has never fit properly. Unlike other consumers, we did spend the extra $150.00 and purchased an extended warranty. Unfortunately, if you cannot get the annoying and loud knocking noise to happen while the repairman is here, the service call is then classified as a "non-covered" repair and is charged $144.97. Additionally, the repairman was more than happy to point out to me that noises are not a covered repair.

As to the refrigerator and/or freezer not maintaining its temperature, the key word is maintaining. For whatever reason, the temperatures fluctuate constantly. This causes mildew in the inside of the refrigerator and I am having to wipe and clean on a daily basis. Cheese no longer keeps for longer than a week, even if it is unopened. When the main board was replaced by GE approximately six months ago, the technician suggested that we unplug the refrigerator/freezer for approximately 48 hours. This, he said, would fix the fluctuating temperature problem. Thanks to Hurricane Isaac, we were able to accomplish this simple task as we were without electricity for four days. Needless to say, this has not fixed our problem.

The only reason we had to purchase a new refrigerator was because our 23-year-old Sears Kenmore (Harvest Gold color) was lost in Hurricane Katrina. When it came time to purchase a refrigerator for our son for his new home in 2006, it was a Sears Kenmore. Drinking bottled water at his home is like drinking champagne!

What a disappointment! Our GE Profile refrigerator (PFSS6PKXCSS) purchased from Nebraska Furniture Mart didn't last three years before we had a major problem. I don't blame the dealer, only the poorly manufactured GE product. Shouldn't a fridge last more than three years before it requires replacement? We didn't buy the extended warranty because we bought a Profile (read, more expensive) model that carried a longer standard warranty (5-year warranty on the sealed system and the 10-year warranty on the compressor). So by that measure, you'd think the refrigerator would last about 10 years, right? Well, not even GE will commit to that, claiming the life of the product depends on where you have the product and how you use it.

Our fridge was placed in a newly constructed home with a family of four and it gets normal everyday use with regular cleanings both inside and out. Still, it started leaking after barely three years. It leaked in the back and created a pool of water under the deli drawer that would turn into a sheet of ice. On 11/30/12, we had a repair person out and he attempted to fix it. Ten days and $85 later, there was another sheet of ice to clear out. On 12/27/12, we had the repairman return. He made another attempt but was unable to fix it, deeming it irreparable.

GE called with their offer. They no longer make this particular model (gee, I wonder why not) and so they attempted to sell me a more expensive model for a discounted rate of $1722, nearly half off retail of $3099. I can actually buy the fridge outright at NFM for $2,499, so in that respect, the $777 discount seems a less than generous offer for a 3-year old top-of-the-line refrigerator. To ask me to invest $1,722 in another inferior product is somewhat offensive to me. I'm disappointed in their product, their customer service and their offer to make things right.

To this day, the same problem is ongoing and it started with the freezer and refrigerator going kaput. The freezer and refrigerator setting were off and would never set to its original setting of 0 for the freezer and 37 for the refrigerator. Every time I open the refrigerator, the temperatures in the freezer and refrigerator were fluctuating at different settings. The repairman fixed the main circuit/control board, but the refrigerator is still freezing my food.

My repairmen think the problem has to do with the damper assembly. It's like a guessing game for them, trying to diagnose the problem but at the consumer expense. Therefore, to fix the problem, I would have to shell out more money for parts and labor. You would think GE being in this business, they would provide quality appliances/parts. Apparently, their damper assembly unit has been updated to prevent freezing in the refrigerator and they're aware of this problem. They should be providing the parts free to the consumers. Like everyone else I've contacted at GE Consumer Relations, we're told the same thing that since the warranty period has expired, the best they can offer us is a discounted repair, but in order to diagnose the problem, they will have to charge us a fee for their technician to come out.

I don't know what discount repair she was referring or offering because she told us we would have to pay for the parts and labor. Their consumer relations are not helpful nor do they care about their customer problems. I'm just going to get rid of this piece of junk and never buy any GE product ever again. In July of 2012, water was accumulating in the meat tray as well as underneath it. It constantly puddled. In August 2012, the icemaker failed and a service call was placed. The icemaker was dead and had to be replaced. While waiting for the icemaker part, the LED screen on the door went strange with flashing lights constantly on. The water continued to puddle in the meat tray. After the technician returned, he took the back interior panel off the fridge and noticed that the coils were frozen solid with ice. He discovered that the heating element was never plugged in properly to prevent ice build up.

I called MABE Canada - service reps for GE appliances and they offered to pay $150.00 of a $443.00 service bill due to the fridge being out of warranty. My argument with GE Appliances is that these products arrived in a poor quality condition and the consumer is left to have to remedy inferior production standards of high-end appliances. When a person invests $2700.00 on a fridge, there is an implied standard of quality in existence. Clearly with these GE appliances, this has been proven wrong. We also had a GE Profile dishwasher, now part of a huge recall due to faulty electrical issues, that arrived with a bent frame and was deemed irreparable by the service technician. The front door always squeaked loudly when opening and closing. Two technicians came to service it and the second technician actually pulled the unit out and noticed the bent frame. I asked for my money back on that unit and am so glad I purchased a Miele dishwasher and am most assuredly satisfied with this product’s quality.

I would like to amend my complaint from Nov. 16th. After 2.5 years of going through first line customer service support, I finally emailed GE appliances senior management about this problem. They responded immediately and the refrigerator is being replaced. I was very impressed at how quickly the problem was resolved after I emailed senior management. I think the company wants to do the right thing; they just need a more effective way to escalate problems above first line customer support.

We purchased a GE refrigerator about 2 1/2 years ago; and it has now failed at least six times, beginning immediately after installation; and it has not cooled at all since its most recent failure in July 2012. The refrigerator leaks Freon until it does not cool. We have it serviced, and then the Freon leaks out again. We have contacted G.E. Consumer Relations numerous times, but we're now told that since the warranty period has expired, the best they can offer us is a discounted "repair". Unfortunately, G.E. has now "repaired" the same problem in the refrigerator at least 5 times, starting soon after purchase.

I bought a new refrigerator, and within a month, it was no longer cooling at all. One day, it just completely stopped working. So, I called GE for someone to come repair it. About three days later, a service technician came out and essentially verified my claim. He brought no parts or tools to actually repair anything. Fine, he set up another appointment for Monday, the 5th (it would be a week since the fridge broke).

No one came out Monday. I called, and Customer Support guaranteed they'd be out Tuesday morning. No one came on Tuesday. I called, and they guaranteed someone would be out sometime Wednesday - no one on Wednesday. I called, and let customer support have it - they eventually transferred me to some supervisor who apologized and said someone would definitely be out Friday. On Friday morning, I called to verify, and finally someone told me that the technician who had my parts decided to take vacation, so no one would make it out until a full week later. There were no apologies or offers to reimburse me despite not only the ruined food, but also the several weeks I had suffered without the use of any fridge at all.

Their product failed in a month after purchase, their technician failed to repair it, and their customer support lied to me for a solid week, then wouldn't actually support me or their busted product. It's a terrible company on all levels.

Long story short, I purchased a top of the line fridge, GE Monogram, approx. 7 years ago. It was faulty from the get go - seal on freezer was faulty. It would not dispense water ... In good faith, we allowed GE to service the fridge with hopes of it being fixed from the beginning, instead of insisting on a new unit while it was under warranty and as was our right. Recently, GE finally agreed to simply replace the faulty freezer door which they openly admit has had problems with the door freezing up and freezing the water line. It sounded simple enough ... it was a nightmare!

There were 4 failed attempts with the wrong door being repeatedly shipped. At one point, I had 4 different doors from GE stacked in my garage (see photo attached). The 5th door came and was the right door. It was installed but there are permanent streaks running down the front of the new door. Consumer Relations Manager, Jamie, said that we were out of luck, the door is indefinitely back ordered; it's "only a cosmetic issue that there are permanent marks from the factory and you should live with it since there is nothing mechanically wrong with the unit." He was done attempting to sending us a correct door, and he had the nerve to ask us to dispose of the wrongly shipped doors on our end which are oversized loads. And I would have to pay a ton of money on my end by getting my waste company to haul them away, and he only offered us a new fridge at a discount.

Really?! Why should I pay for a new unit, no matter what the cost because of GE's incompetency to get it right on their end. This manager refused to let me speak to his supervisor or release his name and said, "You have 7 days to decide before this case is closed." He is trying to back us into a corner and because he refuses to allow us to speak to anyone above him, he is basically dictating and is ultimately holding himself unaccountable. This comes on the heels of my GE Monogram dishwasher catching fire this summer.

It was a recalled unit that we were never notified of. At first, GE was offering their token $400 rebate towards a new unit to "appease" us. That was a $1600 dishwasher, yes, one thousand six hundred dollars! After pointing out the fact that if my family was asleep, the house would have caught fire and killed me, my husband and our 3 precious children ... I had a new dishwasher the next week. We also have a defective cooktop and downdraft, which has also been repaired three times. I don't even try to attempt using 2 of the gas burners because of the gas that is released but burners that are never ignited and the downdraft gets stuck in the up position.

In general, this entire Monogram package has been an utter disappointment. GE has wasted so much money with shipping out perfectly good doors that now the manager has openly admitted they will throw out instead of using them, 5 service calls, cost of shipping and doors. This is exactly what adds to the rising costs of products that consumers ultimately wind up paying for. I would advise any money conscious consumer to not waste their hard-earned money on GE appliances. I am certain there are other companies in this tough economy that will want our business and will do everything they can to keep our business. Things do eventually break and need to be replaced and most companies value the repeat customer.

It has been nothing but trouble after purchasing the GE Profile Refrigerator PSC25MSTA from Direct Buy. Something spilled on the shelf and it could not be cleaned. It got under the ridge that holds the glass and you have no way to get to it. Eventually, it caused mold that we couldn't get rid of. I called the company and was told to call a repair man. I said that I wasn't paying $75 to tell me that I had mold that couldn't be gotten out. I took pics to send to the company and continued to get the runaround until I said "This causes a serious health problem" and now I'm making GE aware of it and they will be responsible for the results.

After that, I was sent all new shelves. When I sent them a photo of the fan that was in the back of the fridge, I was then sent a new fan (that I had to install myself!). How mold gets behind that is beyond me. Problems with the ice maker and freezer were next on the list. I would have ice hanging down in the freezer and covering my food. Either had no ice cubes, just water, or had a clump of ice in the maker. I'm so fed up with GE and their products and their attitude that I am willing to trash this piece of junk and spend more money and get another brand, even though I really can't afford it. I can't afford to have this thing make me sick!

Two (2) repairmen looked at it and eventually, one of them representing GE decided to replace a defective part. In the interim, I had no use of my fridge for approximately ten (10) days or more. Needless to say, I lost all foodstuff and had to dine out most of the time. Their GE fridge was a terrible and shoddy piece of workmanship, exceeded only by their gross failure to resolve the issue of losses I suffered. In fact, I even received a bogus letter from them falsely claiming I owed them $100. I truly believe they are a bunch of common thieves, who hold the public to ransom.

I bought a used General Electric Stainless Refrigerator with 3-month warranty on 10/21/2012. They were supposed to deliver that same day before the end of the day, but did not do so until 10/22/12 at 5:30 pm. When they came to deliver, they broke 2 of my entry stairs tiles, they splinter 4 of my wooden stairs, they scratched my laminated floor, and messed up 1 of my walls. After installation, everything looked good, until we had the time to go grocery shopping. We sorted our meats in the freezer section, the day after we realized that the meat was not freezing.

We called in Lourdes Appliances to report the problem, and they told us to change the freezing timer to 5 and not 9 because that will start frosting and will stop the ventilation (made no sense to me but did it anyways). She said to give it about 2 hours and to call her back. I did so and the freezer was still not working. I called her and it took me forever to get a hold of them. I left messages and kept calling every 10-20 minutes. Finally, they responded and they said they would send a technician the following day which was November 4, 2012 at 9:00 am. It got to 10:00 am and they were still not there. I called them and was not able to get a hold of them until around 11:00 am. The lady said they would be at my house in the next 20-30 minutes.

They did not, so I kept calling and calling and was not able to get a hold of them until 2:30. She said that they should be getting there any minute. It got to around 4:00 pm and finally someone showed up and checked it out. They replaced the computer and said that was it, that if the freezer did not start freezing the food, to call them. Well, we gave it a few hours and the thing did not work. We called them and they said they would send someone the following day, November 5, 2012, at 10:00 am and to make the story a little shorter the same thing that happened the first time happened again. They did not show up until 3 pm and never answered my phone calls. The technician replaced the computer again. He did not do any testing or anything else. All he did was replace the computer.

The freezer never worked, my laminated floor absorbed all the water that the fridge was leaking and got damaged. I had to throw away all my meats because they got ruined. I had some other technician come over. I contracted him to install my washer & dryer (someone totally not related to the company I had purchased the fridge from). I mentioned to him the problem with the fridge. He took a look at it, tested it and found out that one piece was burned out. He removed it and asked me to show it to them so they could take care of it. I called them on 11/6/2012 and told them what had happened, and they said because I had brought in another technician, my warranty was no longer valid (something totally not mentioned before or stated in my receipt).

Lourdes said that they would send someone the following day between 9 am & 10 am they did not get there until 12:00, and did not do anything but take the part that was burned. I decided to go to the shop because calling them would not be a good choice; they do not answer anyways. I went there with my sister. The lady treated me very rude. She kind of ignored me and all she said was that they had gone out for lunch and that the technician would be at my house after his lunch - this was at 1:30. The technician showed up at 3:30 pm installed the part and left. He did not test, did not check if there was another problem going on, just replaced the part and left like I mentioned before.

Now, I have to wait and see if it will work or not. It's very frustrating. Now I have broken tiles, broken stairs, scratched laminated floor, damaged floor in the kitchen, no food and I lost $70.83 of meats, not including the taxes. I am thinking of returning the fridge if it does not work again. Let's see how it goes then. Please, someone do something to help me. Thanks.

I purchased this GE Profile (model pfs22sisss) refrigerator in August of '07 from Lowe's with an extended four-year warranty. Within a year, the main board needed to be replaced. A year later, a door latch broke. Early this summer, I had the repair people out as the temperatures in the freezer and refrigerator were fluctuating widely. The first repairman claimed it was too near the wall and should be moved out at least three inches. This seemed strange, since the specs say 1" and it had been like that for four and a half years. The next call to the repair service produced a diagnosis to replace the sliders in the freezer. They were ordered. Later that day, the refrigerator ceased working altogether. Over the next week (while waiting for the repairman to return), it worked intermittently. When he returned, he tried replacing the board again. No luck. At this point, the compressor would not come on. Of course, we are not out of warranty. The refrigerator was deemed unrepairable. I was offered a discount on a new one. Like a fool, I took it; but it did not take into account that I had been trying to get this repaired since before the warranty expired and had had three wrong diagnoses.

We remodeled our kitchen six years ago. We purchased a microwave and Profile refrigerator. The microwave exploded one day after the one year quar. The appliance store said the ray tube exploded and since I went over the one year, I would have to pay for repairs to the tune of $180. We paid $220 for the unit, so we bought a new unit, but a better brand. We had to change the entire under cabinet mounting and electric as the kitchen layout was built around the GE unit.

Now we come to the GE Profile refrigerator - what a joke. We paid over $1500 for the biggest load of junk ever made. After the first year, the digital temp controls began malfunctioning. Two motherboards later, it is worse and we cannot put ice cream in it as it melts during the frost cycle. The door clips have both broken off, the doors do not seal, and the digital controls act like a random number generator. I use an old fashioned thermometer to watch the interior temps. I will keep this unit another three months and then send it to the junkyard where it should have been shipped right after it was produced.

Forget about getting it serviced. I simply cannot afford to put more money into this nightmare of a refrigerator. By a copy of this complaint, I request that GE should, in three months, come and pick this thing up and do a post-mortem on it so they can actually see what they are producing. We are only two people using this unit - just think of a family using it.

On 9/13/12, I had the refrigerator and 4 other GE appliances delivered. After the struggle to get the 29 cu. ft. refrigerator into the house, it would not turn on when plugged in. This refrigerator was put together in Louisville, KY at a new plant to get jobs back into the USA. On 9/15/12, a new refrigerator was delivered. This one has a large dent in the left door. I kept this unit with a promise that I would receive a new door. On 9/20/12, a new door arrived but the refrigerator was not cooling and just kept running. On 9/21/12, a GE tech came and said that the condenser fan was never connected at the factory in Louisville. After connecting the fan, the tech said the condenser fan had to be replaced. He installed a new fan and told me it would take 24 hours to cool.

After 24 hours, the freezer and refrigerator was not cooling and my food had to be thrown out. On 9/22/12, a different tech came out and told me the condenser and most likely the motherboard was bad. On 9/23/12, I went back to hhgregg, where the purchase was made and explained the problem. The GM Maurice ** said he would have a new refrigerator shipped to my home on Monday, 9/23/12. On 9/23/12, the fridge arrived with 4 dents on the left door. I had them remove both refrigerators from my home. I was told by Robert, the manager of the shipping department for hhgregg, that the best he could offer me was $175 off and if I did not accept, he would only make one more delivery to my home.

I called the GM at hhgregg and he told me to give them one more try to make it right and if the next refrigerator delivered was not perfect, he would take it back and credit my account. So after 4 refrigerators, I have a refrigerator with no dents. It's now been running for over 24 hours and it is cooling properly. However, it is the loudest refrigerator I have ever owned and it never shuts off. So much for made in the USA. At this point, there is nothing I can do except live with this constant loud steady hum or sell the house. All the other appliances in my kitchen are GE and we want to keep it uniform.

By the way, I called GE Consumer Advocates at their customer service number and after waiting to speak to someone for 25 minutes, I spoke to 2 different people who made no apology, but only showed indifference. So although I have always been a fan of GE, a loyal customer and was so happy that they are now making the products in Louisville, KY, I am sad to say I will never purchase any GE products and will sell my stock in GE.
