When I close the refrigerator door on my GE Profile Top Freezer Refrigerator, the freezer door pops open. And about half the time, if I don't notice it, it stays open, raising the temperature to over 10 degrees and causing snow to develop inside the freezer. The GE technician, and the Western Appliance technicians before him, tell me that that is normal for a GE Refrigerator. I contacted the Consumer Service center and they said the unit was designed to do that.

I asked are you telling me that GE deliberately designed their refrigerator so that the freezer door would pop open and not close properly when the refrigerator is closed? They intentionally designed a freezer to spoil food? She answered Yes. That's what I am telling you. She also said the warranty does not cover intentional design aspects of the refrigerator. So if I want help, she basically agreed that I would have to sue.

Purchased a side by side refrigerator in 10/01 and have already had to replace the circuit board and fan motor. They were quick with the service but fail to warranty their parts for any length of time. The parts that went bad were covered for one year, but the new parts are covered for five years. How can they justify the difference in warranties? I had also purchased a smooth top GE stove which has had the control panel replaced on it only two years after it was purchased. I have also replaced parts on a electric dryer only three years after it was purchased. I am very disgruntled with GE products and vow to never purchase anything from them again.

I purchased a GE refrigerator (Model Number GSH25KGMC BB) three years ago. I continue to have problems with my ice and water machine on the unit. I have had an instance to when it would dispense water or ice for no apparent reason. I had to put the lock control on so that it would stop dispensing water or ice. With the lock control on, I would hear beeping every couple of minutes to indicate to me if I did not have the lock control on it would have dispense ice or water. There are times when the water will not dispense because the water line gets frozen.

Pieces of the ice maker have broken off. The flap that opens to release ice does not close all the way which allows the warm air to enter the freezer. The chute and the place where the ice comes out of in the ice carriage gets clogged with shaved ice. I have stopped using the ice dispensing mechanism and noticed that the chute gets more clogged when it is not used. Also, everytime I open the freezer now ice rubs against the door from the ice carriage. Parts of the refrigerator gets so cold that it freezes the eggs causing them to crack.

My 3-year-old stainless steel refrigerator door is rusting -- not just a scratch or dent, but rusting all over the lower half of the freezer-side door. I feel it is a manufacturing defect. GE says it is a cosmetic problem. They offered to replace the door for $385 plus $155 labor, and later reduced the door price by 50%. But I do not think I should pay for a defective product to be replaced.

This is a GE Profile Arctica, model # PSS25SGMB purchased in Nov. 2001 for about $2000. With a rusty freezer-side door, it is not worth anything. I expected many years of good service and, while it works fine, I also expected it to look like Stainless Steel for its lifetime.

I purchased a GE Profile Artica side by side refrigerator about 3 years ago. GE has replaced the ice auger three times because the plastic keeps cracking off. The plastic falls into glasses and is discovered either by someone biting into it or by finding it in the sink. I have two small kids that could choke on it. Every time I call and complain they said its not under warranty any longer and that they cannot help. this started the first year we got the machine and continues on.

Over the past four years, my 4-year-old refrigerator has had the defrost heater kit replaced, the condensor coil replaced, the evaporative thermostat replaced, the damper repaired, a booster added to the compressor and now, the compressor was just replaced. When GE was called for service, I was always told it would be several days until someone could come out. Trying to salvage hundreds of dollars worth of consumables each time, we had contacted what we thought were GE Authorized repair centers to do the repairs as they could come out much faster than the GE Factory service personnel. Unfortunately, despite sending the receipts to GE to show them the nature of my problems, GE never advised me that the company was not Factory Authorized and instead, waited until I had an expensive repair (Compressor $1200) to tell me that I had voided their warranty. I have spent over $2200 repairing this defective major appliance. Customer service has been nothing but a nightmare. At one point I was sent a $75.00 Good Will check that can only be used on another GE appliance! Like that would ever happen!

Economic loss of over $3500 - $2200 in repairs and a refrigerator and freezer's worth of food each and every time the unit failed.

Less than a year after purchasing our GE Profile Performance refrigerator the ice maker began to leak. We call GE and a service technician came out and replaced the ice maker. 15 months later, the same problem occurred. This time to the tune of $230. The service technician replaced the ice maker and it did not make any ice. We call them back, they showed up and said the wrong ice maker had been installed. This sercive technician installed the correct ice maker. Once again the ice maker not only looked incorrect it also did not work. We called the technician back and he said that this ice maker was the wrong one and re-installed the correct one.

18 months later, the ice maker is leaking, again, to the degree that the bottom of the freezer is coated with a layer of ice. The techicians are scheduled to come out and replace the ice maker again. When I asked if this was normal for a GE refrigerator, the answer was no, but 1 800 GE CARES, does not offer any viable solution to the problem other than to charge us $230 every 18 months to have our ice maker repaired again. Based on the reports I have read on line, I would discourage anyone from purchasing a GE refrigerator.

We have had technicians out to service out ice maker 4 times since owning the refrigerator Each time they have attempted to charge us $230 for each service call. Occassionally, we have only had to pay for the ice maker and not the entire service charge. Additionally, we have had food spoil as a result of the ice build up, preventing the fan from operating which does not allow the refrigerator to cool properly.

My GE refrigerator is just over two years old. For several months I have been hearing popping noises. I called the GE Hotline and was told it is due to the evaporation system from the water that is accumulated from the automatic defrost. A second hotline rep said, No, that was not the result but did not offer what the noise was from. Now I have a more serious problem that I don't know is related. The refrigerator section temperature does not go below 50-55 degrees and food is spoiling. Hotline rep will not issue me an extended warranty to cover repairs which he estimates could go to $200. Since I have had problems for many months I think there must have been an original mfg's defect. Food is spoiling and I have had to transfer frozen food to a friend's house as I was told to defrost the freezer to help the problem, but it did not change the frig temperature.

They came and serviced it, told me it had a defective heating unit (evidently a part of the freezer),and charged me $199.22! They said it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do.

So, I had to spend an entire morning off from work (I'm CEO of a large Media Company), and deal with waiting for a hald hour to speak to a a customer service person who gave me absolutely no service.

I have had every part replaced on the freezer and I am still having the same problem. The reason we bought this product was soley for the icemaker feature.

I have lost freezer items several times, but G.E. will only give a $100.00 for the lifetime of our contract. We have lost work due to the scheduling of service.

After one month my brand-new $2,400 GE Profile side by side refrigerator freezer door began loosing its seal and popping open. When the door does not shut it causes the icemaker line to freeze. The icemaker was replaced on the first service call. At this time the technician told my wife it was normal for the door to pop open. The door has remained open overnight at least four times and pops open every time the refrigerator door is shut. Unless we press each door shut at the same time the freezer will open.

This is a tough routine with children ages six and four. Each time the freezer door remains open, frost builds up on the exterior door and inside the freezer. In addition, since the freezer runs for extended periods the water line freezes causing limited water pressure. I've scheduled service four additional times all resulting in no shows. Each night before the service call I receive a recorded message confirming my appointment, but no one shows. I've missed work twice because of this issue. My complaint to GE customer relation was a bigger nightmare when a service specialist refused to give me an address for their customer complaint department.

We purchased a GE side by side 25' Profile Refrigerator in August of 2001 from Sears. From the beginning there was problems with the water not working in the door. It would make ice cubes but not put out water. Sears repairmen came out at least 5 times while this was on warranty. They told us we didn't have enough water pressure, which was wrong. Then we had to keep track of when it wasn't working, take out the filter, listen for it making certain noises, etc. Finally they replace the unit that pumps the water. That was just before warranty ran out August 2003.

Now it is freezing the vegetables, fruit and anything else that freezes easlily. The temperature in the refrigerator will not stay at 37 degrees and drops below 30 degrees. This in turn also freezes the water which is not working again. We contacted Sears in May 2004 regarding this problem. They canceled the first appointment saying the service tech called in sick. When someone did show up on May 14, 2004, he knew right away what whas wrong. This was the fourth (4) GE refrigerator he had fixed with this problem!

Some door is supposed to close regulating the temperature and it broke off. He said it was a sealed unit and that he would have to order one. When we pointed out that the GE 5 year warranty covered sealed units we were told that this was not covered under that. He called Sears and GE and they blew the whole thing off. Our warranty had run out so it was going to cost us around $179 to fix it.

I purchased a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator/freezer in August of 2001. Ice and water are in the door. I complainted that the force of the ice ejecting broke drinking glasses, finally after 6 months and many broken glasses they sent a rubber gasket to install around the ice ejector. That did solve the problem. The ice crusher still does not work. The produce freezes in the storage drawers. This past week a repairman came to fix the freezing of the contents in the refrerator section and after he left the entire refrigerator and freezer went out. I lost food both in the refrigerator and the freezer. Had to live out of a cooler until they could get the repairman out 3 days later.

I tried to get help from GE's help line when the refrigerator/freezer went out but they were rude and unhelpful. The repairman put in a new control panel and the refrigerator/freezer is back on, but the freezer is not freezing the ice cream hard enough and if I turn the controls higher in the freezer area, I am sure that the contents of the refrigerator section will freeze. Thanks goodness I have a service contract, but I would prefer an appliance that worked.(note: I am 68 years old and have had some refrigerators more than 15 years and during my 50 years of married life I never had a service call on a refrigerator until I purchased this GE).

The evening of January 8th, 2004 after 10:00 p.m. the refrigerator unknowingly cooled to low causing the water filter to frreze an rupture allowing water to leak inside the refrigerator until we decovered the leak at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning. Repairman arrived as scheduled on Friday and replaced Fan Housing/Plenum Part number on invoice = WR17X11508 Cover FF Inlet ASM. The serviceman stated that the part was covered under an extended warranty. He stated that the warranty was extended due to a small part malfunctioning. There was no charge for the parts or labor. The repairman was extremely nice and also witnessed the consequences that will be described below.

Water leaked onto our hardwood floors in our upstairs area. Water seeped through these floors into the subflooring and ultimately into the basement bedroom below. The basement ceiling collapsed and ruined the carpet. A restoration company spent one day on cleanup and set-up fans and dehumids that were left running for three weeks. The downstairs room has been repainted. The carpet will have to be replaced. The heating ductwork has been replaced. The ceiling has been replaced. When the hardwood floors dry completely, they will have to be sanded or replaced. If sanded, we will be required to leave our house, store our fyurniture for at least trhee days. Thankfully I have insurance, however my deductable cost was $1,000. I have all intentions of receiving reimbursments from GE to cover my out-of-pocket expenses. Model # = PSS25SGMD

Our home is 2 yrs old. All of my appliances are 2 yrs old and are all GE products. I have a GE side by side refrigerator with the water filteration system. Back on 10/01/03 my GE Refrigerators freezer was not freezing, everything had unfroze in freezer. The refrigerator was still cold at this time. The following day I contacted GE, they told me they can't send one of there service techs out to my house because I live out of there service area. They told me to get out my yellow pages and find a GE Certified technichan. So I did, 2 days later the tech comes out, diagnosis was compressor was shot.

During this time, I had spoiled more than $250.00 worth of food, and had water leak out from the fridge and caused my Hardwood Floors to warp. It took 10 days before the tech received the compressor and was able to get back over to my house. Keep in mind I have 2 children a 8 yr old son and a 2 yr old daughter. When the tech came to install the compressor he turned on the fridge and said Oh, your compressor is not the problem, it must be something else. I am going to order a couple of different parts for your fridge and give those a shot. Okay, so the tech does not know what is wrong with my fridge. A day goes by, I hear a knocking sound coming from the fridge.

So now, I immediately call the tech. He states, I will come back out to your house in 2 days and take another look! He decides that it might be the control board on the fridge, so he just happens to have a used one, he installs it, turns the fridge and freezer to normal temp. Fridge and freezer are working! Except for 8 hours later my Freezer is not only frozen but my fridge is also frozen. It froze so bad in the fridge it exploded the water filter. We couldn't remove the water filter, so immediately I again called the tech and he said turn the temp down on the fridge. meanwhile while all this was happening, Ge was not helpful at all! Three years ago we purchased a GE side-by-side refrigerator with a water/ice dispenser/crusher in the door. It came with a one-year warranty. Several weeks ago my daughter almost choked on a 1/2 inch piece of plastic in her glass. We are unsure if she ingested any of the smaller pieces. The fact was that the ice crusher had begun eating the ice bucket I see as: (i) faulty design; (ii)use of improper materials; and (iii) a significant safety issue. A GE repairman came to investigate. He called GE Appliances who informed that, althought the warranty had expired, they would give us a free replacement ice bucket but would not pay for the housecall/labor. I tried to explain to customer service that the issue was safety, not simply parts replacement. They did not feel any further action was necessary. I consider GE's lackadaisical attitude regarding safety to equate to gross negligence. Simply replacing the part does not ensure against future ingestion by unsuspecting consumers.

Purchased GE refrigerator model GSH22KGMAWW on August 12, 2001. On 10/7/2002, a large amount of water was noticed on the kitchen floor (2nd story). Water to refrigerator was turned off. Water damage resulted on hard wood floors and 1st floor ceiling below refrigerator. GE service was contacted on the morning of 10/8/02. We were quoted cost of $49.95 plus any parts and labor with a 1-5 pm show up time.

Took day off from work to wait for service tech. Service tech showed up after 6:00 pm. Performed inspection to try and identify problem. He concluded that the Main Board of the water dispenser malfunctioned causing water to flow out of the dispenser as if the lever was being pushed back. As a result a large volume of water leaked from the dispenser until the water valve and icemaker water valve "froze". Apparently these parts "freezing" stopped the water flow onto our hard wood floors. I can only assume that these valves are designed to "overload" in such circumstances.

The service technician proceeded to present a repair estimate of over $500 in parts and labor for a refrigerator just over 14 months old that cost only $950 new. His repair estimate included individual labor charges for the Main Board and Water Valve (over $275.00) as well as parts charges for the main board, water valve and icemaker water valve (don't know why as the ice maker is working), parts total $213.75. Needless to say, the amount for the repair is outrageous as the Main Board should not burn out or malfunction in such a short period of time. In addition, parts that are designed to overload to protect further damage, should not be subject to the consumer's expense of replacement, as there replacement is due totally to the malfunction of another part of the unit.

To top it all off, after waiting all day for the repair man, we were charged an extra $25 for the repair "estimate". We were never told of this additional charge by either the phone rep nor the service technician upon his arrival. We are in the process of contacting GE to achieve an equitable solution to this problem. We are also now in the process of receiving repair estimates for the water damage caused by GE refrigerator malfunction.

On Sunday Nov. 4th 2001 Jacksonville fire dept. attended a small fire at my boyfriends house caused by an overheated power cord running to a top of the General Electric refrigerator. Minimal damage was caused because I was home at the time and unplugged the frig from the power outlet. The insulation on the frig power cord had melted, exposing bare wire.

The following day, (Monday), the service dept at GE was notified and they proceeded to send out a service person that afternoon. The repairman ran tests on the frig, closely examined the melted wire and concluded that there was nothing wrong with the frig. Even upon my boyfriend Ed's insistance that something had gone wrong with the unit, he was adamant that everything checked out fine, except for the melted insulation on the power cord, which he would order and return the following friday to replace. Ed suggested on at least two occasions that the frig be taken in for further more extensive examination but he stated that it was completely unnecessary.

Thursday the repairman called and said that he had obtained the cord earlier than expected and asked if he could come to install it that day. He arrived shortly thereafter, replaced the cord, ran some tests, then again assured us that the frig was running properly. The refrigerator worked fine for two days, then, on Sat November 10 2001, while out, we were notified on the cell phone by the alarm company that the house was on fire and that they had already notified the fire dept.

After the fire had been extinguished, the attending fire captain decided to call in a specialist to determine the fire's point of origin. His conclusion was that it originated from a short circuit in the door of the frig and spread from there. Ed once again notified GE service, who sent out their own inspector. After some examination and lengthy telephone conversation with his office they accepted responsibility and assigned a case number. Somehow in his wisdom Ed decided to put the claim through his own homeowners insurance. This was the beginning of dealing with what we began calling "the adjustor from hell". But that is a whole other story.

Christmas was spent in the hotel, with the threat from the adjustor that the house better be ready because Encompass insurance would not be paying for any hotel bills after the third week of Dec. New Years was spent worrying about if I would be repaid the money I was lending Ed to pay hotel bills and food. In the end Ed settled the claim with Encompass ins. after having to hire a public adjustor to help him. Unfortunately, he had to pay out of his own pocket over a month's hotel bills, the contractor was cheated out of money due him, along with other subs who were not paid by the insurance company for a number of reasons.

I contacted Mr Bob Lessard at GE's insurance company asking for some reimbursement; his underlings curt reply said basically that Ed's settled the claim I'm out of luck in getting anything unless it comes from Ed. I guess I was going to let the matter go and write it off to another life experience, however in the middle of June I was contacted by Bard and Sandra of Savannah GA. They said that their GE refrigerator had burned up under almost the same circumstances, Unfortunately there whole house went with it.

It makes you wonder how many more defective GE frig's are out there just waiting to catch fire, and perhaps next time kill someone. In light of the huge sums GE pays there executives you would think they could devote a few more dollars to making a safer product, or at least be more fair and compasionate with the people damaged by their faulty products
