My GE Monogram Refrigerator froze up on August 1, 2011. Service man was called and part (control panel) was ordered. It came in flawed August 6. I'm still waiting for the part. On Sept. 9, The Monogram Customer Service provider told me that at least 200 other customers were waiting for the part which was previously manufactured in Japan. Because of the earthquake there, the factory could not provide the part. GE is trying to get someone else to make the part. They are offering a discount of $2500 on the $9000 replacement part for the Monogram side-by-side that I have.

My mother-in-law purchased a GE refrigerator for me as a house warming gift in 2007. The cost of the fridge was around $2,300. We bought $123.00 worth of groceries and within one week of purchase the fridge temperature control had a malfunction and did not work. This happened when temperature was at 100 degrees, so we had no ice, etc. and had to use an ice chest. We were out of $123.00 in groceries. It was a total loss.

Sears replaced the fridge one week later but we still experience temperature gauge malfunction and it resets on its own. The fridge either freezes everything on both sides (freezer/fridge or does not keep anything cold. It varies from day to day. We are very upset about this because when we contacted the dealer repair service, they informed us that either they will send someone out to my home to take a look at it, which will cost me $150, or we can try several remedies. Well, none of that worked, and we are back to square one with a faulty fridge.

The companies these days have no morals and could care less about their products liability and safety for the consumer. The government needs to impose a penalty and make them pay a fine for each complaint received. These companies are getting rich off of the people by selling faulty appliances. GE can no longer stand up to the others and will never gain their respect back until they start owning up to their faulty products. This means one thing; bring those jobs back to the U.S. When appliances were made in the U.S., they outlasted the consumer. By the way, my mother in-law bought a GE fridge 40 years ago and it still works because it was made in the U.S. That is why these companies try to sell those warranties, because they know their products are faulty.

I am ashamed of the companies that hire overseas workers because most of them are slaves and under age. That's a crime in the U.S. but not in those countries of dictators. It should be punishable by imprisonment here in the U.S. Those CEO's and COO's of these companies are the real criminals. Lock them up.

I called this company four times this year to fix my refrigerator for the same problem; it does not get cold. I called this year and also last year for the same complaint.

Even though I have insurance, they do not want to replace it. I want them to, but they claim that even if they come 10 times to fix that same issue, it is fixable.

I feel that I do not want people in my house every three months fixing my refrigerator, for the same reason. I want it replaced and that is why I pay insurance.

I purchased a GE profile refrigerator in March 2011, serial no TT571112, model PFSS9PKYASS (Case No. **). I did not take delivery until the end of July and it was never working properly. It kept things warm but not cold. I contacted GE service department on 8/24/11 and they gave me an appliance center called Able and Ready repair from Yonkers. The tech came in and reset a button, the refrigerator worked for half a day. When it was working, I again refilled my refrigerator with 200.00 worth of food and it had to be thrown out.

I called them again over the weekend, which a hurricane hit us, and had to be without food for two days. I live in New York and was hit hard with the hurricane. I did not lose power but did not have a refrigerator that worked. I then called that Monday, 8/30/11 and said they would send a man out here between 5 and 8:00PM. The tech called at 6:30PM and said he could not come. Now, I called GE Consumer Relations and told Melissa what has happened. Melissa sent a tech out to me, after my husband was so angry.

He was on the phone with the techs from GE and told me that it was not fixable, but told them it was fixable because it needed a new board. I emailed Melissa on 8/3011 and told her in my email that I am disgusted and have been without food in my house for three weeks now. Two men came to my house and could not fix this problem. I think I have suffered enough and I asked her through an email if I could have a new refrigerator. I do not feel that I should have to be inconvenienced with a new product that never worked. She now says she is sending me another repairman tomorrow to try and fix this.

I have emailed her again this morning and she is not answering me. I tried to call her with her extension and she has a voice mail saying she would get back to me in 48 hours. Are you kidding me? I have all GE products in my house and never had this problem. I am asking now for a new refrigerator. I have thrown out over 400.00 worth of food and put in two claims and only getting reimbursed for 200.00 back? I cannot afford to keep doing this. I need a new refrigerator. I am afraid that this repairman will fix this problem, fill up my refrigerator and then hold my breath until it goes off again, and then more food loss. I cannot have this. Before I go to the TV with this problem, I am asking that you give me a new refrigerator. I have been inconvenienced long enough.

I purchased a 36" stand alone GE Monogram refrigerator and a 36" stand alone freezer when we remodeled our house about eight years ago. There has not been a year that gone by without GE coming to the house because of issues with either the fridge, freezer or both. Now, the back of the freezer is turning to a block of ice and the dripping water lays on the bottom of the freezer. It then freezes up so I cannot open the two bottom drawers. The freezer is no longer under warranty so if I want it fixed, I have to pay, which I wouldn't mind if they can actually fix it. Believe me, this is not the first time that this has happened. The only thing GE would offer me is a 20% discount on a new one. No, thank you. I spent almost $10,000 on these two units combined and if I haven't spent the money, these things would be in the garbage. I would never, ever buy a GE appliance again.

GE Profile Side by Side Refrigerator is a feature rich refrigerator when it works. Our seven-year old one stopped working early July. The repair company replaced the mother board. I called in about my refrigerator; every time I leave the ice maker on, I have icicles that form in my freezer and that everything defrost in the freezer. My water line is frozen so I cannot get water and anything in the second to bottom drawer of the ref freezes. I turned off my ice maker so I don't get icicles but water line still freezes. I called GE but they only want to give me 50% from labor and parts.

Everyone who has this refrigerator has the same problem. My best friend has also the same problem. She called twice and the third time she called they sent someone out and replaced the part for free. I cannot get them to even call me back when I am told that they will. I called them again and they said that each case is different and it depends on how many times each person has a repairman come out which is a lie because she has never paid or had a repairman to come out. Then they said it depends on the case manager you get. If you are lucky to get a good case manager you might not have to pay.

Why would they do one person free of charge and not the other person with the same problem. I even gave them her case number and still they won't do anything for me but a 50% off.

I would like to inform GE that I made you aware of the problem and your repair people are not helpful. I could have fire in the house because of your range. I would like you to be aware of the problem and it will be your responsibility.

Two repairmen came to my house on August 17th 2011 and sat in the car in front of the house for at least half an hour. They came to my house and told me that this is the way the products are build. I cannot put anything in the upper shelf of the refrigerator and I have been told that I block the vent and that's why my food turn into ice. I have called more than once but the problem is still there and the repairmen keep on coming.

I am not happy with the product and I would like you to be aware if in case of fire, the responsibility is yours. I thank you in advance .

On October 19, 2006, I purchased a GE Profile French Door, 22.2 CF refrigerator with model#PFS221SBSS for $1,899.90. No cheap investment. I thought this would last me a long time!

My problems began in May of 2008, only about 1 1/2 years after purchase. The outside of the refrigerator became so hot I could not touch it and leave my hand in place. Also, the temperature settings were fluctuating wildly. I called the extended warranty company dealing with GE appliances. They had to replace the circuit board.

In April of 2011, the same problem returned, along with the door clips that had broken off. I called for repair. A second circuit board was installed, along with new gaskets and door clips.

On August 9, 2011, I called the repair service again because the temperature settings were not holding. The temperatures were fluctuating in a wide range. I know that some fluctuation is normal to allow for defrosting. But these temperatures were staying for hours at highs and lows. For example, I keep the freezer at 0 degrees and the refrigerated compartment at 37 degrees. The temperatures will go to -2 below 0 in the freezer and 39-40 degrees in the refrigerated compartment, and stay there for over six or eight hours. Then one day, the temperatures will be normal and only fluctuate one degree, up and down. This is not normal. The temperatures should not be constantly fluctuating like that. It is not constantly defrosting!

During the repair visit in August 2011, the technician ran tests and said he could not find anything wrong. He did replace a P.T.C. and OLP ASM part, hoping it would help. It did not.

On August 8, 2011, I sent a letter to the GE CEO, Mr. Jeffrey Immelt in Fairfield, Connecticut. Surprisingly, on August 12, 2011, I received a phone call from a Mr. Bill **, GE from Kentucky. In just four days, my letter was pushed from the CEO's office in Connecticut to a customer service person in Kentucky.

I was not at home, but I did get to talk with Mr. ** on August 16, 2011. He more or less, and in a polite customer service way, told me the fluctuations are normal and to deal with the extended warranty company. In other words, and in my eyes, GE is not standing behind its product. He said he knew someone at the warranty company (Federal Warranty Service Corp., PO Box 105689, Atlanta, GA 30348, 1-800-432-2737) and would have them call me. As I explained to Mr. **, they could not find anything after running their diagnostic tests. What more can they do!? Again, he told me there is nothing wrong with the temperature fluctuations and he would have the extended warranty company call me. End of conversation.

My concern now is what do I do if I need yet another board replaced? That will be well over $250 out of my pocket when the warranty expires. For now, I have to live with fluctuating temperatures that will probably lead to another circuit board.

I am not the only person with this complaint! What does it take for GE to own up to the fact there are bad appliances out there and the people who trusted in their name are being slapped in the face and ignored. As long as I live, I will never buy another GE appliance--nothing with the GE name on it. I worry that I may have to buy another refrigerator. This one is almost five years old. I should not have to be worried about something like this. In this economy, I do not know if I can afford another major appliance.

At this time, I do not want a lawyer to step in. If the problems mount into costly repairs, I am sure I will change my mind! It is time that these companies start taking responsibility for their products and be loyal to their customers.

There are many complaints regarding GE and this refrigerator on the Internet. I could not find any recalls addressing the problem. I also could not find anyone saying GE resolved the problem. I just wanted to file this complaint so other consumers, as well as Consumer Affairs, will know about General Electric and how they do not stand behind their products.

For now, I will continue to use the extended warranty until it expires. Thank you!

My parents purchased a new built-in refrigerator (GE Monogram) and it has been leaking water on their hardwood floors for 3 weeks. 3 different service technicians were called to fix the problem and all 3 did not have a solution.

The first technician applied tape to try and stop the condensation that was creating the leak. The second wrapped foam paper around the condenser to "warm up" the refrigerator. The third said there was nothing he could do because of the humidity in the air. Apparently, my parents live in an area that makes this brand new unit "sweat" and therefore there was no fix for this problem.

When we asked for a refund, after all this time, they refused because they are not responsible for the acts of "mother nature". I asked what we are supposed to do with a leaking refrigerator, and the response I got was just to deal with it. When I asked them who was going to pay for the wood damage on the floor, they said that they would pay for that.

So, they will pay for damage, but not do a return?

I had my GE Monogram refrigerator stop running. GE had one technician come and replace 2 parts.

The refrigerator worked for 6-7 hours then stopped working again. GE sent out another technician who did not do anything but complain that he was already off and was working overtime. And said there was nothing he could do. GE sent out a 3rd technician who cut wires, removed the thermostat and did not replace it and then said that the refrigerator was not able to be fixed.

GE then said that since it was not able to be fixed, they would sell me a new one for $4,000. I asked GE if they would send out a supervisor for a second opinion and they refused to send out anyone ever again.

I then called a local company and the technician worked on my refrigerator for 3 hours and fixed all the bad connections that were done by the GE technicians. And now, my refrigerator has been working fine for the past 10 days.

I purchased a new Double Wide in July 2004 which came with all new GE appliances. I have had to replace the defrost heater in my GE side-by-side refrigerator/freezer model #GSS20IEPCWW three times already and it has gone out again. The first time was in September of 2006 and when I contacted GE, then I was told that the part wasn't covered under warranty. After I had it replaced the third time, I contacted GE to see if there was any type of recall or something I could do since the same part had messed up 3 times already and was told that since my refrigerator's warranty was expired, they could send out a repairman to check it out but it would all be at my expense. Aside from the costly repair bills every time it messes up, I lose a few hundred dollars that I had spent on the food in it. After researching online, I have realized that defrost problems are very common in GE refrigerator/freezers. Is there something purchasers could do about this?

We bought a GE Profile Refrigerator Side by Side for our new house we built 3 1/2 years ago, we paid $2,500.

One year later it started having problems, we had the technician over many time. It was very inconvenient, they don't have a specific time they are coming, so you have to drop everything and sit and wait till they come. They could not fix it after several trips and several parts order. Finally they replace it for another one, we had to pay $500 extra for replacement.

Now after two more years we are having problems with the replacement. We had the technician over at our house dozen times, he ordered parts after parts, and installed them, but still not working. Finally, the refrigerator quit on us. On July 27, the technician ordered 3 parts, came and installed a week later, and still did not work. We ordered another part and that time, the part came in on Monday and they will not be able to come and install until next week.

GE Profile seems to be a lemon, therefore the consumers should know this, as it is important, it is an inconvenience to have such an appliance that is expensive and you have to have someone constantly working and installing parts. In 40 years we've been married, we had never had problems with appliances, for sure I would not buy a GE Profile anymore, and would not recommend anyone to buy one.

I bought a GE Profile refrigerator with ice maker (model #PFSS6PKCSS). We told them it would not be installed right away since we were just starting construction on the kitchen in our second home. They said warranties will not take effect until the unit was installed. Their GE representative knows the area is mostly second or summer homes.

When the unit was installed, the ice machine did not work. They sent someone out and GE said the service call will be covered under warranty. Since then, two different service representatives have been out to fix the ice machine on 4 or 5 different occasions. On the last call they realized that this particular model had a factory problem. The company had sprayed foam in the lines so that the ice machine would never work. The problem was deemed not repairable.

I was told that Sarah from Consumer Relations would call us in 24-48 hours. That was on July 11th. It is now August 8 and I have yet to hear from her. I have made several calls and have written a letter to the department. Sarah has not returned my call nor have I heard back from the letter.

I did talk to one person and was told that my refrigerator was no longer under warranty, but they would give me some percentage of money for a brand new refrigerator of the same model. I said, "Why would I buy the same model when I know they have a problem with it and why was it considered a warranty problem when it was the company who caused the problem?" They were the ones who put foam in the lines. I was told Sarah would have to get back to me. I have made other attempts since then to get hold of Sarah. I had no luck in any response from her.

This is a GE Profile Refrigerator complaint, Model PSS26MSWA.

We purchased a new GE Profile fridge for our new home in April 2007. Last week, our icemaker stopped making ice. We scheduled an appointment online at GE's website. The GE repairman arrived promptly this morning at 9:09 a.m. and was professional and courteous. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a broken motor, grabbed a new icemaker from the truck and expertly installed it. He was finished and had the bill ready by 9:18, less than 10 minutes after arriving. Excellent, right? Except that we were charged $165.15 for labor.

Okay, so $165.15 for 10 minutes, that's $990.90 per hour! Where do I sign up for one of those jobs? But that's the thing; the repairman certainly doesn't make $990.90 per hour or $39,636 per week. If he did, he wouldn't have had to delay his retirement. The cost of the icemaker was reasonable, I believe $108. The visit was $79.99, but I assumed that would be deducted from the labor cost.

When I read the schedule service details that I printed out when I made the appointment online, I discovered that a labor charge is in addition to the $79.99 visit charge (plus tax). Okay, they got me there but charging $165.15 minus $79.99 (visit) equals $85.16. Even if you think a visit fee should be separate from the labor fee (which I don't), $85.16 for a ten-minute repair is $510.96 an hour! That's really outrageous and shame on GE!

I had the choice of calling my home warranty company, or GE to repair my refrigerator/freezer. The unit is a six foot wide side by side costing $10,000. The unit is no longer under warranty. I called GE, and waited a day for them to come out. I pointed out the first problem (water on the refrigerator side floor) which was fixed in 5 minutes by blowing a hose in the drain hole and then running hot water, and the second problem the freezer was not as cold as it should be and frozen items felt somewhat soft.

The GE technician said that I had left the freezer door open, and there was no problem. Cost of repair $99 service call + $85 for five minute drain fix. The next day I noticed the freezer was still not working, and called GE. They told me I would have to wait an additional day to get on their schedule, but they would note to call me if someone cancelled (No call came). I was asked if I wanted 8am-5pm service, or 1pm-5pm. I said the earlier the better under the circumstances, and choose the whole day waiting. At 3:00 I called GE, and they said that they were running late and would be out around 5:30pm. I've scheduled my 3rd service call and I guarantee you that the tech will say it's the motherboard. It's been replaced twice. A quick Google search will reveal that GE has known that the motherboard is ** since 2006. In fact, a "silent recall" was issued to suppliers - not consumers. I spent $1000 in repairs - not including wasted food - since 2008 on what's supposed to be GE's top of the line product in this category.

GE, I want a new refrigerator including the wood panels I currently have and I want reimbursement for the previous service calls since you've known for five years that the part was **. When can I expect my check and my new fridge?

Let GE know they sent me $50 for my inconvenience! All of our kitchen are GE Profile appliances, the date says 2007 on the, have had to replace parts in dishwasher, freezer and fridge. My oven does not self clean, turns off now on top of it all, the microwave has peeling paint at the bottom!!!!! It is a wall unit w/ oven. I called and was told not safe to use!

I too, am afraid I might have swallowed shavings of sharp plastic glass from the ice maker's auger. I have a GE Side by Side refrigerator with model no. GSS22WGPA BB and serial no. DF246778 which was installed on 8/1/2003. After more than 7 years of refrigerator service, I have had so many problems with my GE refrigerator. But finding an inch-long piece of a shaved, sharp piece of plastic glass on July 11 2011 scared me to death. And what shocked me even more is finding out on ConsumerAffairs.com that the problem is very common. Apparently, there have been many reports of people reporting the same problem with the ice maker's auger.

If so, why in the heck is there not a company recall on the auger? Does somebody have to seriously choke and die before something is done? Does GE not care about the human welfare of its customers? Apparently not. I once had trusted in GE, not now. You would think by now someone would have contacted me. GE could have warned me about the likeliness of what could happen with the faulty auger, so I can keep an eye out for my family's safety. A letter, a courtesy call, anything to show GE cared, would have been nice. If GE wants to wait until a lawsuit, that is fine with me; but here is what went down today.

I came home from work, rinsed some dishes, and used the garbage disposal. After turning on the garbage disposal, something was refusing to get chopped up. It turned out to be a sharp piece of plastic glass. I had no idea where it was from, but I hung onto it. Later on, I went to get some ice out of the ice maker, and there was no ice coming out. I thought the ice was clogged together. I took the ice maker out of the refrigerator and started de-clogging the ice. I soon noticed the auger looked kind of funny. Upon further examination, I realized the auger was clearly broken, and not just a little piece, a whole piece of a spiral was missing. It was clearly broken off. I could see the rough edges where the pieces have broken off.

We entered into a GE Service contract on November 25, 2009 and were to begin service on 12/25/09. As of 07/11/11, we've had numerous service calls (in excess of three calls for each appliance). Their customer service is not helpful, and scheduling for service for appliances is time-consuming. The technician comes out to "check" appliances and then orders parts, only to return a second or third time to replace/repair appliance. As per the terms of the contract, I am requesting replacement appliances since the appliances are currently not working properly and have had more than three service calls to date.

We are still waiting for parts for our dryer and have not received a call back as to why the part has not arrived. The refrigerator has never worked properly since it was purchased. Since the technician cannot technically find anything wrong, but has replaced numerous parts, GE is stating that the appliance is functioning as should be. The management has suggested placing liquids such as milk in the freezer to reach a desired temperature. Also, she has suggested buying different brands of products such as ice cream, etc. In essence, I believe appliances that are purchased, and are less than one or two years old, should not have the problems that we've experienced.

I have a GE Profile side-by-side Arctica PSS27SGNABS refrigerator/freezer (Serial number GD405747). For a few weeks the refrigerator seemed to keep things too cold and the freezer wouldn't stay at 0 F (tended toward 6 F). Then the refrigerator wouldn't get below about 40 F and the freezer wouldn't get below 18 F. The refrigerator is not that old (circa 2005). A repairman came out and charged us $300 and changed the sensor circuit board. he said to wait 24 hours. Result was that neither refrigerator or freezer worked, so we called him back. He came back and said the door between the freezer and refrigerator compartments wasn't working properly and so he changed that, and again said to wait 24 hours. The result was that both compartments started heating up (~44F) well above their set points.

Also, the condenser/compressor combination seemed to be in a state which caused a weird noise like they were constantly going on and off. Then a second repairman (third visit) came out and said the first repairman put in the wrong circuit board for our refrigerator. He changed that out and said wait 24 hours and it would work. We are back to the initial state where the freezer doesn't get below 14F, although the refrigerator does seem to stay at the set pont. Each time my wife has to hire persons to work at her store while she waits to meet with the repairman (they won't work at night) and so she loses the cost to pay these employees. GE consumer service is not available except during hours when we work. GE repairs can only schedule someone to come back out but gives no guarantee that they will actually fix the refrigerator. By the way, when I contacted them first by email, they never responded and so we were forced to call.

They did send a service request relative to the email contact and so I let them know that their email didn't work either.

I purchased GE Monogram All Refrigerator in 2009. In February, it has black mold so I called a technician and two men were scheduled to work on the fridge.

On Feb. 2, 2011, two technicians replaced temperature control. On May 5, 2011, I called the monogram service 800-444-184 because the black mold was back. I spoke with Jasmine. Next day, I called the monogram service again and spoke with Amber, who stated, "You can't ever get rid of mold."

I wanted fridge replaced or money back so I could purchase a new fridge, but Amber stated no. I asked to speak with her supervisor but she said they do not speak on the phone--they schedule and fire people. I asked for her bosses' boss and she stated his name is Ryan but did not know his last name. He is the head of consumer relations, but has no number.

Amber had two solutions: 1) Have the tech out, or 2) she could give me a discount on a new GE refrigerator. I stated to send the tech out. I asked if the call was recorded and she stated yes. I explained my concern with a son who has respiratory issues.

On May 9, 2011, technician Don was sent. He said the fridge had no history of problems or repairs. Don called Tennessee using our phone (his phone was losing power). Don spoke with Charles, the engineer, who told him to replace the cold control as there was no record of it being replaced before. I told him i believed this was done in February. He told me Charles had no record of this and ordered a new cold control unit to be replaced on Monday, the 11th.

After he left, I called with Marla, who found the unit was replaced in February. I asked her to have Amber be made aware and take control of this issue, as it appeared there was lack of communication between different departments at GE.

On June 27, 2011, Don came and said everything is functioning properly and that the company has no idea how to fix the mold problem. He called headquarters and got an OK to check the fan for mold. The fan was free of mold. He said Amanda will call us tomorrow on how to resolve the issue.

On July 1, 2011, a call from Amber (id # 715966), case manager, stated she did not have information from the technician and that they won't reimburse me for the refrigerator. The best offer they will do is sell me the same refrigerator for $1302. I explained I do not trust GE. Amber's boss is Starla (id # 80658). Team leader Amber is waiting for information from the engineer on how to fix our refrigerator.

I bought a GE bottom freezer refrigerator in 2004 for $999 from Home Depot. This was a major purchase for me but as I was looking towards retirement, I decided this company had a good reputation so I purchased it.

To date, I have had at least seven service calls involving the fan freezing, which froze all my food in the vegetable bins and requiring a service person to come out and defrost the fan.

On one occasion, I had a major buzzing and the refrigerator portion ended up being warm--losing all my items in the refrigerator. In March, April, May and June of this year, the service man has been called in to service this reoccurring problem with frozen vegetables in the bins. In June, I had asked when enough is enough for this defective design?

I am so glad I had taken out the extended insurance for this product. Otherwise, I would have been out of pocket for all the service calls.

I got my GE refrigerator in Nov 2006 upon purchasing my new home. I also have a GE dishwasher, stove, and microwave. Within the first month of moving into my home, I called GE service for warranty repair on my refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, and microwave. I will concentrate on the refrigerator since this is the main issue that I suffer with the most.

I complained of the refrigerator making a very loud noise and not cooling correctly. I was told that this was normal and nothing was done. Within the following year, the problem persisted but felt like there was no recourse because of what I was told from the first service call. Then about a year ago, my trouble started again.

The water and ice dispenser on the door quit working; it would make a noise, and the light would come on but dimly. Then a few months later, the refrigerator side started dropping temperature and wouldn't stay cool; but the freezer seemed to be fine. We unplugged and cleaned the coils, thinking that it was what was wrong. It started working again, we thought but it was only short lived. The refrigerator side still didn't seem to be keeping the correct temperature so we turned it up, and then everything started freezing on the refrigerator side. So we turned it back down to 6 from 7, and it went back to not cooling correctly.

I started doing some research and found out that GE had problems with the main board in these refrigerators, plus other problems also. I decided to try the board and found one for $130 at a local Appliance Parts Store and replaced it. It has been 2 days and things seem to be okay, but, I don't know if the freezer has gone through a defrost cycle. From what I have read, this can become an issue and also the thermistors and thermostat could have problems also. I took the cover off the freezer coils to look at them and when doing so, found a melted spot on the bottom of the molding. This is really close to the defroster.

Now, I don't know if I have a bigger problem. I have read where some of these refrigerators have caused fires. I wish that GE would step up and take responsibility for these issues. I can't afford to go out and buy a new refrigerator; I couldn't afford the part and I had to borrow money to do this repair. I hope that this wasn't a mistake. GE, please stand behind your word that you are concerned about your product.

I have a major complaint with my GE Profile Arctica side-by-side refrigerator. Below is the timeline of events.

April 2007 – I purchased GE Profile Arctica side-by-side model PSI23SCRGSV, serial no FM403649 from Sears for $2340. All was well until August 2009. I came downstairs in the morning to find fresh food compartment over 60F. Top light and control panel were out. There was a loud click and then they started working again. Somehow, overnight it had gotten hot enough to melt butter. I lost all food. I took photos (available on request) and called GE service. Of course, by the time the tech got here, the refrigerator was cooling normally again. Main board and top control panel replaced. I was charged $286.36.

12th of December 2009 – I opened refrigerator door to discover the top light and control panel out. Top light hood was very hot to the touch. I heard a loud click and the light and panel turned on again, temperature was 6 in freezer, 43 in fresh food (regular temps are set to 0 and 37). After 8 hours, temps returned to normal. I called GE service, they sent out a tech on the 14th December 2009.

Tech told us that it was probably the main board. He said that they replace them all the time, but they are not defective or poorly made (huh?). He has hundreds of them on his truck. I mentioned that it was already replaced and I had already paid for it in August and that these things should not be failing on a less-than-three year old fridge and certainly not within 3 months of a prior replacement. He told me that every now and then, some of them are bad and maybe we got a bad one the last time. But I’d still have to pay to have a new one installed because they don't "bench test" parts to see if they are okay, they just replace them. Main board replaced. I was charged $210.93.

14th of December 2009 - Internet research reveals hundreds of consumer complaints regarding GE main boards failing repeatedly. I discovered a letter from GE to its Customer Care Servicers regarding a defective main board (copy available on request). While my refrigerator does not fall in the list of suspected models for this "silent recall", I suspect there is a problem with the replacement boards as well.

14th of December 2009 – I complained to GE Customer Relations via **. I demanded reimbursement for having to pay for the same issue twice. I received a call back from "Diana" on 17th of December 2009. She refused a complete refund and offered to reimburse the cost of the service call only, or nothing. I took the $74.95 refund because it was better than nothing, case # **.

11th of June 2011 – I opened the refrigerator to discover that the top light and panel was out and the temperature was registering 63F. Freezer was at -5F. Normal settings are 37F and 0F. I took photos of the fridge. Photos are available on request. I removed light panel and bulb. Bulb was warm but not hot. Metal plate above the light socket was extremely hot. I inserted thermometer probe and registered over 200F. I turned the breaker off at the panel for 60 seconds, and then turned it back on. The refrigerator is now cooling again. I did not replace the light or the housing and have a thermometer probe in the fridge now, with an external readout so I can monitor cooling.

I called GE Service, but they were closed. I logged on to the website and requested service. I sent email to GE regarding this issue since it is the 3rd time with the same symptoms. Today, I used Twitter to try to get GE's attention. They are non-responsive. I cancelled service order until I can get confirmation that GE will resolve this repeated issue at no charge to me. I'd like to have everything in writing since "things change" when phone calls are involved.

The issues with the main board WR55X10552, as originally outlined in GE's letter to Servicers dated 7th of November 2006 (obtained online and I have a copy available on request in PDF format), seem to be happening to its replacement WR55X10942 as well. This does not sit well with me as I have already had (and have been charged for) 2 replacements since 2009. It appears that the lifespan of these boards is less than 2 years. It costs $200-300 dollars per instance, not including lost food. This does not speak highly of GE's quality and reliability. Again, this is a refrigerator I purchased new in April 2007. Whatever happened to appliances lasting 10+ years? Whatever happened to GE's quality and reliability? Do their electronics have the same rate of failure?

I am really not looking forward to dealing with GE service again, as they clearly have a problem with their main boards and feel it is okay to charge the customer for repeated repairs on the same issue. I cannot afford to buy a new refrigerator every couple of years. I also cannot afford to spend $200-300 every couple of years to fix an appliance, nor can I afford to spend $200 to replace lost food contents whenever these parts fail prematurely.

I want GE to provide service, labor and parts to fix my refrigerator at no charge to me, and assurance that any future failure of this part will be their responsibility.

I took photos of the fridge. Photos are available on request. I removed light panel and bulb. Bulb warmed, but not hot. Metal plate above the light socket was extremely hot. Inserted thermometer probe registered over 200F. I turned the breaker off at the panel for 60 seconds, then turned it back on.

The refrigerator is now cooling. I did not replace the light or the housing, and have a thermometer probe in the fridge now, with an external readout, so I can monitor cooling. I did this after the last instance of this issue in December 2009. I called GE service, but the office is closed. So I logged on to GE online and requested service. The confirmation number is ** and is scheduled for Monday, 13 June, because I need my refrigerator fixed. I can predict just what will happen when the repair tech comes out -- he'll ask what's wrong, it'll be cooling fine, he'll plug in his diagnostic computer and it will either look fine, or he'll offer to replace the mainboard. I'll get charged either way. Outrageous and unconscionable considering this will be the third time.

The recall issues with the mainboard WR55X10552 as originally outlined in GE's letter to servicers dated 7 November 2006 seem to be happening to its replacement WR55X10942 as well. This does not sit well with me as I have already had 2 replacements since 2009. It appears that the lifespan of these boards is, at best, 2 years. And at $200+ dollars per instance, does not speak highly of GE's quality and reliability.

A quick internet search reveals hundreds of consumer complaints from this year alone regarding mainboard failures. It's disgraceful. I am really not looking forward to dealing with GE service again, as they clearly have a problem with their mainboards and feel it is okay to charge the customer for repeated repairs on the same issue. I want GE to take responsibility for these defective boards and do not want to be charged for the inevitable replacement I am about to face for the third time! I have tried to find out about the refrigerator we had purchased four years ago that we are having problems with. I got a response from Donna, the Appliance Specialist, but she told me that there are no known problems with my model. I tried to type in my model number GSG22JFTAWW, but it will not come up. I even tried the serial number ** and still nothing. I have read many issues with the GE brand refrigerators with the same problems, first the ice cubes freezing together in a large quantity that we have to take the bin out and empty it because it will get stuck. Then suddenly the ice drops would form once in a while in the freezer on the food and the racks. That is when we noticed it running often. Now, it is all the time.

We see the water drops all over then it will freeze to the drops of ice and on the food it gets to be large slabs of ice the was once defrosted water running all over. I started doing some searches on the web and finding other GE refrigerators doing the same thing and that there was a recall for the Motherboard. There was a problem with the defrost and heat mechanism being so close that I had a feeling that was my problem. I had filled out the registration paper and never heard a thing.

I don't understand why I never heard of this problem before I did some searches. Also, whenever I put in my model number, it never comes up. I had a refrigerator for many years and never had a problem. When I moved into this house, the one here was old but worked fine. We did some remodeling and figured to get new appliances, well we picked all GE brands, and now have problems with this. If there is a problem with the model in itself, I feel they should be responsible for the repairs, but this woman seems I should be the one to get it fixed after spending over $1000.00 for it, in only four years old they should. And yes, I am kicking myself for not getting the extended warranty. And yes, we did do research on the appliances before we purchased them. Needless to say, I will never purchase another GE refrigerator again nor will I recommend one to anyone. My stove is good, the dishwasher not so much either.

I have lost a significant amount of food, until I got smart and put most of my stuff in an extra freezer we have. I can't use the ice maker I personally like to have and wanted for when we have company. I'm sure that my electric bill is more now that it has to run longer to freeze again. I am tired of opening my freezer door and have ice fall out all over my floor. I have to keep something in it so I don't always have to go into the garage to get something.

In June 2010, we renovated our kitchen. At that time, we bought all new GE Profile Appliances comprising a Stainless Microwave, 2 full size stainless convection ovens, a side by side refrigerator, a stainless dishwasher, and a stainless compactor. From the beginning we had problems.

Oven: Our kitchen designer cut out the space for the ovens, using the dimensions for that model on the GE website. When installers came, they found that the product did not conform to the website dimensions. GE disclaimed responsibility. i spent another $3,000 redesigning and modifying the cabinets. Additionally, our 2010 Profile ovens do not fully clean on a 5 hour cleaning cycle. Debris does not fully disintegrate but leaves a baked on residue which cannot be removed easily.

Microwave: Our stainless microwave forms and retains condensation between the glass panes of the door. Sometimes, the condensation remains for days before it dissipates. GE Authorized Repair insists that this is a common occurrence with microwaves. Furthermore, they insist that microwaves do not emit particles (rather wave energy), and therefore, (contrary to Wikipedia and other online sources) do not constitute "radiation" and are not dangerous. GE promised to replace the microwave but has consistently refused to do so. The have replaced the door but the problem persists.

Refrigerator: The doors on this profile side by side contain a vapor lock and the refrigerator forms a vacuum when the door closes. This requires a great amount of force to open the refrigerator and freezer doors. Sometimes, one must use 2 hands. For handicap persons such as my wife, who only has the use of one hand, this presents a serious dilemma. Other GE refrigerators, not of the Profile line, have small adhesive patches to mount on the door seals so as to lessen the vacuum pressure. However, GE discourages using these for its 2010 Profile series because it will void the warranty.

Refrigerator water dispenser: Unlike older Profile models which we have owned, our 2010 profile side by side refrigerator water dispenser contained a redesigned valve which severely restricted water flow. It now takes 40 seconds to fill an 8 oz. glass versus 10 seconds in the older models. GE service is aware of the problem but cannot fix it.

Dishwasher Rinse Aid Dispenser: For some reason, our rinse aid dispenser doesn't work properly. GE Authorized Repair advised buying an after-market attachment that fixes the problem.

Compactor: Apparently, our 2010 model has only side screw guides to attach to other appliances. Other products have guides that allow it to be screwed into the wood base of the countertop. Accordingly, the compactor is constantly misaligned as a result of the compactor vibration.

Over Range Vent Duct: The duct that attaches to our vent has 3 dents in it that look like a design flaw. Apparently intended to lock duct extensions in place, they were mounted on the front in full sight a opposed to the sides where they would not be visible.

5 Burner Induction Range: It arrived from the factory with a scratch in the glass top. For almost a year now, GE has claimed the fault lies with the installer/retailer (Spencer's Appliances) and the installer/retailer has advised that the fault lies with GE. Meanwhile, the consumer has been caught in the middle. Until this last experience, I have been a fan of the GE Profile line. GE's motto is "imagination at work". Instead, it appears its engineers and designers are not imagining, but rather daydreaming without any grounding in practical reality.

The cost of $300 would of have been more if GE came out to fix it, and I did call GE. They said they would send out a repairman at $100 plus additional payment for the mileage. I know for sure that after all the reading I have done that there is a huge problem with the GE main board and they know it, but they will not do anything about it. If it was not for the great websites that I read on how to fix the problem with my fridge, I would have been spent a lot of money. I have read over a thousand of posts about people having problems with the main board on GE fridges. I do not see how there is no class action law suits going on with them and a proper fix for this main board. I do know. I cleaned it several times and each time it got worse! And now it is smooth instead of grained like the top.

I find out many people have had this problem, so we contacted General Electric service to get help with this matter. The rep sent us to the recall line that had nothing about fridges, just dishwashers. We were trying to wait till to get it fixed.

Tonight, when my wife, son and I sat down to dinner, our smoke alarm went off. Our kitchen was filled with smoke, we realized our fridge was on fire, we unplugged it just in time. I am very upset that my 5 year old fridge that I have had to have repaired once before and paid $1,300 for, could have killed my family. I want something done not only for me but others out there. This has happen to be a sad thing that is General Electric put us in a bad spot. We don't have the extra $1,300 to buy a new fridge, our the extra cash is for a used one.

This new unit was no better. However the technician did visit and stated that all the units with exterior water dispensers were having the same problem.

My own experimentation found that by simply removing the thermistor grill cover from the thermistor, inserting the thermistor into the cavity of the refrigerator, use two cotton balls to cover thermistor and cover the hole with white tape worked. My temperatures now became constant at 35-37degrees at all times. Was GE not able to come up with any simple solution to solve this problem?

It is a loud noise and people that come visit us always ask about the strange noise. We had GE come out twice, the last tech said all these refrigerators make this noise due to the new refrigerant. He said the noise was coming from the capillary tube on the evaporator and sorry, there isn't a fix for the problem. We plan on calling an appliance service company, other than GE, to look into this noise problem. We don't believe all GE SXS refrigerators make this noise. I purchased a GE Profile Refrigerator approximately three years ago. It has been nothing but problems. I am looking at about 10 or 11 calls. At this time it has not run since Saturday. Serviceman came out today to install parts they ordered and the part needed was not in the box that had arrived. He called and now we are told the part will not be released until 4/11/11. All my problems have been related to the fan not working properly and the board freezing up. I have had water (and I mean not a small amount) on my hardwoods on two different occasions which was caused by the fan not working.

At this time the repairs are out of hand. I would have taken what they have spent and gotten me a workable refrigerator that is not a lemon. This GE is a piece of junk and no one should have to pay for something so useless. If I had not had a service agreement I would have long ago thrown this thing in the dump.

Do not buy a contract with Assurance Insurance. I finally got one lady who was not rude and could speak English that I could understand and she has tried to help me as much as possible. Other than her, this has been a real nightmare and a horrible experience.

Fifteen months ago, I purchased a GE Profile Refrigerator for $2,200; three months out of warranty. My ice maker is broken and upon researching the issue and part it has come to my attention that the GE refrigerator is actually a Samsung re-brand to GEcmpl lists. The ice maker has an engineering defect where a plastic wheel strips out after fourteen months of use. I know this is a known issue as the part has a two-week back order to resolve issues in sold units that has to be replaced.

I spoke with Sears today and they wanted me to buy an extended services policy to cover what appears to be a re-occurring issue with the ice maker every fourteen months which I believe is a known defect in materials; a dirty way to sell insurance in my opinion.

I will now have no ice for another two weeks. I will need to buy the defectively engineered part for $160 every fourteen months when the gear strips again. I felt like I have been swindled by Sears and GE as the refrigerator was actually a cheap Chinese model, re-branded to GE, and there is no relief to resolve their issue short of me throwing more dollars at them via an extended warranty to cover the GE/Sears issue. I have spent literally 40 hours finding just the part alone as it's not what the model number says the part is; it has to be the Samsung part number.

In the meantime, I am buying bags of ice and waiting for my part. Assuming this is happening to many GE consumers appears to be a great opportunity for a class action lawsuit where GE knows they have an issue and haven't called for a recall or extended service for their bad ice maker until the point that they can resolve the design issue.

In 2009 I had another moisture related problem and the repairman said their was no charge because of my previous claim. He also said that I would eventually have problems with my door.

He was correct. I called and spoke with 2 different people from GE about resolving the problem without any charge. John and Tara told me that I was suppose to call and make an appointment. with them at the time of the settlement to get the doors replaced. I asked him why I would think that I need the doors replaced. He said that it was in the packet of information sent to me. I received no packet regarding this and I told John so. He offered to have the doors replaced for $425 + tax.

I refused this offer because I did not receive any packet and I believe that no packet was ever sent to me in the first place. Therefore I was not given the opportunity to have my doors replaced. John also claims that he has my name down as calling but does not know why there was no appointment. made. I know that I did not call. I believe they are fabricating information to avoid fixing my problem for free.

When I spoke with Tara, I told her that I was going to take this to Small Claims Court and she told me that it would not work because I still wouldn't get my refrigeration system fixed. My refrigerator is leaking all over the floor. Each morning and evening I put down towels on the floor and under the ice maker shaft on the door. I own a GE Side by Side Refrigerator Model No. GSS22SGMD BS, Serial No. GD 209676. There was a moisture problem with this model that GE was aware of, but failed to notify, or remedy the problem until a class action suit was filed in 2004. All owners of this model were supposed to be notified by GE as part of the settlement agreement with the court. Just prior to the final hearing, the attorneys found out that many of the owners of this model had not been notified as required by order of the court, so GE agreed to extend the claims cut off date, and extend the warranty for a additional year, along with some other terms prior to the new final settlement cut of date in late 2006, per court order.

I just found out about the settlement yesterday and that the date to file a claim had expired, but that GE might still offer some of the other concessions if you contact them. I contacted them and they offered me a discount on a new refrigerator, or said if I purchase a new set of doors from them for $425 plus tax and shipping, they would pay for the labor to install the doors. I was asked for my phone number, and when I gave it to them, they said I was not shown as registering the fridge. I had given her my cell number to use to contact me. So I told her this was not my number at the time, and gave her my old home number. She still showed no registration.

She told me that that was the way they check to see if the appliance had been registered, and their way of looking them up. After I hung up, I realized why I was not showing up in the computer. When I sent in my registration card, I had not included my phone number because I did not want to be solicited by GE, or its affiliate companies for things like extended warranties, insurance, mortgages, etc. I normally do not provide this information, because I figured they would be using my name for verification of registration. I was never notified by GE, and I think using phone numbers to track registration is a poor method of tracking buyers’ information. When I called today, I was given a case number to claim (no. **) a discount on a new purchase. At no time did anyone request my name during this process.

I have been given different advice by different associates of the repair service like, is there dust on the extension cord? Is it plugged in? Or you should unplug your refrigerator every six months for at least an hour. I am very disappointed that such an expensive product from such a highly regarded company is so fragile and unreliable. Service issues for the same problem have been reoccurring since 2008. I am currently waiting for another repair on my refrigerator. Each time it is the same problem. Every time service is needed, the average time it takes a service technician to arrive is 6 days. That's at least 6 days with no refrigeration.

On October 12, 2006, we closed on the house with all GE Profile Appliances except for the washer and dryer. Beginning of this year 2010, we started to have problems with the refrigerator not cooling properly. It was causing ice build up from the ice maker down through all the shelves creating a large ice cube. So I called a repair technician to give us and idea of what was wrong with the unit.

After talking to him and explaining the problem with the refrigerator and freezer temperatures rising and falling some times nearly 10 degrees, he said it was the mother board. When he made the repair, I told him of another problem about the build up of frost/ice that is located to the left behind the chiller drawer. He said that he had to order a part and install it which was a small heat pad that was placed over the area where the coolant lines ran because the refrigerator was poorly designed. In questioning these repairs, he said that he had done several of them in our area. After the repair was made, I started talking to our neighbors to find out that several of them had the mother boards replaced.

In our development, we have nearly 1,350 homes and the builder is still installing GE Profile units. Looking back at the issues that we had with the refrigerator, I really wish that we would had never had them (GE Profile Appliances) installed. I have heard through our area that people have had problems with the stoves, micro waves and dishwasher. By looking at several web sites, I have seen that there are a lot of complaints with these appliances. I wish that something could be done rather than just complaining about them.

We stopped being able to use the ice maker about three years ago after a visit from a Sears rep who was here to repair the microwave which never worked properly again and we eventually had to replace. I walked in and the repair guy had my freezer open. When I asked why, he responded that he was just checking the model number. What I didn't realize is that the model number is not in the freezer side, it's on the refrigerator side. Anyway, I think he sabotaged the freezer because within two weeks, the ice maker was not working properly.

When we called, the service person said that there was a recall on the lining around the doors, but by the time we complained, the recall period was over. Over the last several weeks, ice has been building up in the freezer, to the point that I had to take everything out and defrost it. I'm not sure if GE has a new manufacturer, but our old refrigerator, also GE, but about 13 years old, is in great working condition. This new one is terrible and we could not get good service from GE or from Sears.

I would not recommend buying a GE product and I would definitely recommend against warrantying any appliance with Sears. They never send the same tech, so that you always start from scratch with a new person and the issue never gets resolved. It's a game so that they never have to pay out.

I called the service department after checking online and a service man came. I spent $178 for his three minutes of service. He said that the problem was probably with the thermostat. Also, the fridge's bad design is unavoidable to not block if the shelf is full. The new design has a large gauge allowing air flow around the thermostat. After having five GE kitchens, never again.

I purchased a new condominium in November 2007. It came with GE Profile series appliances. I had one previous GE appliance that was junk so I tried to get the builder to remove the appliances and let us put in our own and they would not. Sure enough, within a year of owning the unit, the refrigerator stopped cooling, both the fridge and freezer. We called service and they were prompt, came out and replaced a circuit board in the unit. The technician told us that he replaces about a dozen or more of these boards every week in GE Refrigerators.

This is a vacation home for us and we are not there all the time. The fridge had stopped working about a week or two before we came for vacation and there was mold and melted food all over the freezer. Luckily we do not keep much food in the fridge or freezer when we are not there since this incident, we keep no food in the fridge when we leave. There was no apology from customer service or the repairman or any offers to compensate for the food lost or cleanup. They did replace the part for free. The big deal is that it was a bad part and they should. Now, a year later, my mother-in-law is staying in the unit and she calls to tell me the same thing is happening again.

I called GE customer service on a Sunday and was told they don't make service calls on Sunday as the technicians don't work on Sundays. I mentioned to her that my GE fridge has the same attitude as it doesn't work on Sundays either. They scheduled an appointment to service it on Monday and now my mother-in-law has to hope the food stays good until Monday. Why would you not schedule service work on Saturdays and Sundays when most people are home? Why make people sit around during the week waiting for a repairman and taking time off from work to wait for someone?

I wish we could afford to throw this fridge away and replace it. If there was room in the dumpster, I would toss the garbage disposal and dishwasher in with it also. They are both horribly designed, noisy and very awkward to load. It almost seems like GE designers took great time and effort to design a dishwasher rack that will not hold dishes well as everything that gets loaded tends to fall over or not load without a few moves and adjustments to get it to stay and not tip over. Man, this company makes crap. It is a shame that they are even in business as there are so many better products on the market.

It appears from my research on the Consumer Affairs website that GE Profile refrigerators have a common problem. We purchased ours in 5/07 and the freezer and refrigerator temps have been unstable. The motherboard seems to be a common part to replace. However, on ours they replaced the 23 thermostat. They were going to charge us $351 but reduced it to $124. Is there a class action suit on this product or recall?

In July of 2007, my husband and I purchased a counter-depth GE Profile fridge at Pacific Sales in Torrance, CA. The fridge is side-by-side with a door water/ice dispenser. In the summer of 2009, the fridge stopped being cool. We called a repairman who told us the fridge was made in Mexico, and that all the fridges made in Mexico tend to have this problem. The repairman said that the only thing we could do is replace the motherboard, at a cost of $600-700. But doing so would provide only a 50/50 chance of fixing the problem.

We decided to think about it, and the fridge cooled down and was okay for a few weeks, and then warmed up. It's been cycling like this since the summer of 2009. I just couldn't get up the nerve to spend $600-700 to replace the motherboard when the repairman couldn't promise more than a 50% likelihood of this fixing the problem. So, we've used our garage fridge for everything that needs to be cool (using the GE Profile for things like fruit and condiments). However, the freezer on the GE Profile is now on the fritz too. When I took the ice cube bucket out yesterday, a ton of water spilled all over my favorite suede boots. So, I've had it! A fridge should last more than two years. It seems like fraud to sell a fridge for $2,000 plus and not inform people that its shelf-life is only a couple of years.

We just purchased a 2-year old home and one of the selling points for us was all the beautiful new stainless GE profile appliances in the kitchen.

The first week we were in the new home, our oven broke. The igniter was burnt out and had to be replaced. While the GE technician was here, we also mentioned that the bottom "stop-latch" on the right side fridge door was not stopping the door when we opened it. The door would just bang into the granite countertop. Then we mentioned that one of the wheels had come off of the bottom dishwasher rack. He suggested we purchase a GE warranty (which we did to the tune of $1,300) that would cover "all" issues that were not cosmetic.

I called yesterday to have someone come out to repair the dishwasher drawer and the refrigerator door and was told that the warranty would not cover these two issues as they were not defects. Since then I pulled out the dishwasher drawer to see if the wheel could be put back on and found that the heating element in the D/W had burned the wheel off. The rear wheel is now in danger of coming off. We can see where the rack has been melted in the location right over the heating element.

I contacted a friend from our hometown, who is a GE repairman and he told me that the company who handles GE's warranty contracts sold all the contracts to another company and that company does not know what is covered and will do everything they can not to have to make good on their warranties. I'm so disappointed and disgusted with the whole GE line of products. I'm glad I bought Samsung front load washer and dryer—no problems with them! $1,300 for warranty—what a rip off!

P.S.: We, too, had the conversation about dishes not getting cleaned. I use the proper jet-dry detergent and run the water in the sink to get the water hot enough before we run the dishwasher. Seems to be cleaning fine now.

Approximately one year later (after the warranty had expired, of course), the fridge and freezer section would not stay cold and the freezer door was so hot you could not keep your hand on it. A technician made a service call and determined that the circuit board needed to be replaced. This cost us $243.15. My husband called GE to complain and got the runaround from seven different people with no satisfaction. In August 2010, the exact same problem occurred. This time, it was not only the circuit board which needed to be replaced but also the condenser fan motor. The bill was $482.33.

To date, we have spent $725.48 on a refrigerator which cost twice that. We will never again purchase a GE appliance. It is obvious that GE does not stand behind their products and in fact, is in the business of "planned obsolescence". GE just doesn't care about their customers. We purchased 5 new GE appliances for a new home in January 2010. Since then we've had a few issues with them, which is not what angers me. Here's what I'm annoyed about: when you call GE for service, you are put on hold for 15-30 minutes; then you get an agent who asks name, model number, serial number, etc., all the while they have this info on the screen in front of them. And if you speak to a supervisor, they will ask exactly the same questions again. They have this info in front of them as the number you've dialed in on takes them to a screen that has all your info.

We've had issues that they continue to send someone out to fix with both the refrigerator and range. Range was fixed. Refrigerator has not been fixed after 5 appointments, of which they showed up for 2. Yes they miss appointments. And after you phone in (this takes 15-30 minutes to get an agent), you find out that they took you off the service list as they had "too many calls" that day. It would be nice if they notified their customers!! Have spoken with their customer relations department agents, who all apologize for their poor service, missing appointments, etc., and say that they will check the records and get back to you. Don't wait for one of these phone calls as they never will call you back. You'll need to call them and will find out that they still can't seem to fix the issue.

So we've had many service appointments, which they only showed up for two. Lost wages for the time we took off of work and now I'm speaking to the corporate office (a telephone number that no one will give you! 203 373-2211). These folks are just as inept as the others we've spoke to. The issues with the fridge are still there (freezes in the refrigerator section, dispenses warm water, water tastes bad, guess their filtering system does not work). Did have someone in customer relations tell me that if they could not fix the issues, they would replace the refrigerator. Corporate office told me that "he wasn't authorized to tell me that." So we will never purchase another product from GE and hopefully the U.S. government won't give them anymore stimulus money! Lost wages for 6 days, issues still not fixed.

Four or five years ago, we purchased a GE Profile Refrigerator and GE profile dishwasher from Corning Building Co, aka CBC. We paid cash in March. Appliances were ordered, or so we thought. In June, I contacted CBC to see when the appliances were coming in. They had no record of me ordering them. After about one and half hours on the phone, I was transferred to owner, Mark S. He was no help and had the attitude, "There are other customers." I took into his store the next day, proof of purchase and the cancelled check. Mark S. stated the person I was working with quit. Not my problem. The ball was dropped.

After I prove my case, another set of appliances were ordered. About July 15th, I called to see the status on my order, oh they were coming in from Mexico and they should be here by end of month. The appliances never arrived until labor day weekend. CBC delivered the appliances and installed them. All is well, right? Nope. The refrigerator was broke, damaged, whatever you want to call it. Did not know it was functioning less than perfect, as it started out getting cold. I went to work fixing food for the busy Labor Day weekend. I had a houseful of family and friends in for the holiday weekend.

When we got up the next morning, we could smell something funny but just thought it was the newness of the new appliances. Opened the door to the refrigerator to find jello melted, milk warm, mac salad and potato salad were not able to be saved. This also included all meat and fish. I called the store and I was told there was nothing they could do. A family member who is a lawyer, called the store and the result, "We can give you a loaner, apartment size. But you need to come and get it, as there is no delivery service today." Mr S. would not help with the loss of food. The person I had hire to get the loaner, he was less than helpful. Of course, another GE Profile was ordered. It came in in October.

Now the problem with this Profile GE, burnt out circuit board, broken water line. Again, I lost food in the freezer and the items I had in the refrigerator such as mayo, milk, eggs, the meat I had gotten ready for dinner that night. Cost for labor and replacement of parts is the cost of a new smaller refrigerator. I will never buy a GE product again. Of course I would never buy from or recommend CBC Building Co in Corning, NY. The other problem, maybe if these items were built in America, we would not have a high $2,000 price tag on a piece of junk made of cheap imported materials.

Months later we found the auger in our GE freezer that turns to dispense the ice was broken and missing some of it's plastic threads. We placed a call out to GE, and it was repaired and we were told by the GE repairman that this was a very unusual event and should not happen again.

In July of 2010 I found another small and very sharp piece of plastic in the sink. I knew exactly where to look and upon inspecting our GE freezer's ice bin found another shard of plastic (I kept these) in it. In order for these shards to get in the sink they had to be dispensed into our drinking glasses. This is extremely dangerous! We called for repair to see if we could get a metal auger or a fix for this since it's happened twice in two years and the response we received from GE and the repairman is that they don't consider this enough of a problem to recall and correct this part/issue.

We will not be be replacing this part again, as I will not put my family or friends at risk. The service fee for this was $80 which we paid and which can be applied to the overall cost of the fix ($250) but there is no way I will risk this happening a third time. GE really needs to fix this or at a minimum send out a caution letter to people with these components! I hope GE has not reduced this down to a cost/benefit analysis of human life vs the cost of repair. I researched this on the web and was disheartened to see that many others are experiencing the same problem.

I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator that I bought with my house in 7/2009. Within a year, a solenoid connector in the ice maker broke and caused it to make only crushed ice. This was in addition to the ice maker shut-off not stopping the unit from making ice. GE initially tried to claim it was due to a recalled ice box (which we ultimately received but still requested a service technician since we knew it wouldn't fix the problem). Since then, we started getting the same problem. Since the recall-replaced ice box did nothing to stop the ice maker from making ice, and it is out of its one-year warranty, so I removed the mechanism and found that nothing was broken, but instead a bunch of ice had frozen in the area of the solenoid which was preventing it from switching from crushed to cubed.

The latest is that the shelf above the ice box has a broken track because the unit will not stop making ice. Also, the ice freezes together because the defrost heating element is far too close to the ice box. The ultimate conclusion is that the freezer has two major design flaws. The first flaw is that the heating element is too close to the ice causing partial thaw and refreeze of the ice. The other flaw is that the ice maker shut-off lever cannot operate properly because it needs ice pressing against it in a direction that the ice would not likely be pushed (backwards). Needless to say I will not purchase another GE refrigerator.

I had been interested in getting a newer stainless refrigerator but had decided to put this off as I couldn't justify the expense of replacing a refrigerator that was working well.

One week ago, one hour after obtaining ice and a beverage from the unit (and noticing nothing unusual) I returned to remove an item from the freezer. I noticed the light was off and a terrible burnt plastic/burnt oil odor was present. Inside, everything was covered with a black residue. I opened the refrigerator to find the light off, the same odor and residue and burn marks along the posterior and medial dividing walls of the compartment. I pulled the unit away from the wall, unplugged it and shut off the water. I examined the electrical outlet and cord, the back, sides and top of the unit and the surrounding walls and cabinets and there was no smoke, fraying, burned areas, warm or hot areas, no odor and no discoloration or marks. There were no water leaks.

Until I had opened the freezer compartment door, there had been no alerting odor in the kitchen and nothing to indicate there was a problem. After inspecting the interior of the unit, I found the posterior and medial walls of the refrigerator compartment very warm or hot to touch. They had many different reasons why it wasn't cold. Too close to the wall, dials not set at the best number, etc. We complied and added more food to the freezer, moved it from the wall, etc. It still would not get cold enough. They then said that even though there was nothing wrong with the unit they would replace the thermostat, just in case.

They did replace it but still it would not get cold. We were told that it was fine, and there was nothing further they could do. Recently, my husband spoke with a consumer advocate, and they said they would get GE to check it again for free. It was checked again, and again. We needed to comply with more food in the freezer etc. We did and then they checked it again. They said that it's functioning perfectly. The coldest temp reading they got was 41 degrees (even though we never saw a reading under 42 degrees). They said that their standards are from 38 to 42 degrees, and they are happy with the 41 degree reading.

I told them that my food is always in the USDA's danger zone for food temp. The USDA says that food kept between 40-140 degrees is in the Danger Zone. The USDA goes on to say that food kept above 40 for more than two hours, should be checked and thrown out. My milk goes bad each week for two years. How can a company that makes, and sells refrigerators, not know the USDA's danger zone? Sarah, my GE consumer rep, asked me to send her the USDA's findings. They still haven't replaced my refrigerator.

Many hundreds of dollars have been spent on food that spoils quickly. Physically, who knows. Upset stomachs, and related bowel movement issues are common enough, and have occurred. I have had two pregnancies in the last two years and neither made it past 10.5 weeks. I would have no idea if the food temp levels are to blame or not.

I purchased all GE Profile appliances from Lowe’s on 4/2/08. In the early summer of ’09, the icemaker on the refrigerator stopped working. I called GE's service line and set up an appointment for a tech to come and look at it at my charge. The day he came, he walked in with a laptop and put it on the counter in the kitchen. He immediately went online. He looked up the price of an icemaker kit and gave me the price and total with labor to install it. Not one time did he look or even touch the refrigerator. I told him I could have done that myself. I asked if he was even going to look at it to see if that was even the problem. He started to get upset. He opened the fridge door, pulled out the icemaker, and said yes. He didn't even unscrew anything or push any buttons.

I grew a little upset and told him I am not paying for his visit and I want him to leave. But before that, I had asked him why the filter button on the fridge was lit up red. He told me it was supposed to be that way all the time. I said, “No, it was green. Now it’s red.” He argued and told me it is supposed to be that color. He was raising his voice with me and my children here and I was pregnant. I again said he needed to leave. He went out the door to his van. I locked the door and immediately called the service number to report his behavior. As I was on the line with the service department, my doorbell was ringing and ringing and someone was beating on my front door and window to my kitchen.

My oldest son finally came out of his room and answered the door. The GE tech was yelling at him to get his mother. I was still on the phone to the service center talking with a woman. I asked her if she could hear this GE tech they sent out. She agreed she indeed could hear. I asked her to hold and then put the phone down to take care of the situation. The man started yelling at me, telling me he just called his supervisor and the supervisor told him the light on the fridge is supposed to be red (no it isn't) and they would turn me into collections if I don't pay for his time.

I told him to get out of my house (because he came in). He wouldn't listen so I had to keep yelling at him. My kids were scared and so was I. Finally, he stepped out. I immediately closed the door and locked it. The woman at the service center stayed on the phone the whole time. She heard everything and could not believe what she witnessed. She immediately cancelled any billing and told me she would report the incident. Now to this date, my GE Profile built in stove won't work and I hardly ever used it. And my icemaker still has not been fixed. I need to have my appliances fixed but am terrified to encounter the same experience.

The refrigerator broke down in just over a year; the card/chip was defective and we paid $365 for repairs and at that time the technician sold us a GE service warranty lying to us that it was GE operated. He did not tell us that we will have to go through Service Protection Plus, some kind of insurance company for service and repairs to the product.

The refrigerator broke down again on 07/23/2010 and we called 1-800- phone number of Service Protection Plus and scheduled a service for Monday, 07/26/2010. We called Service Protection to schedule a technician for 07/30/2010 and it was scheduled for 08/2/2010 afternoon. The technician did not show up on time between 1pm to 5pm but came at 5.45pm.

We checked the refrigerator; it was not cooling and we called Service Protection who wanted to schedule a technician for Thursday 08/05/2010. I asked when I ordered the part if this was normal, since it seemed pretty flimsy. I was told there was nothing noted in the system and I ordered the part. The ice machine worked for exactly two glasses of ice before it broke again.

When I called G.E. again, they offered to send me a replacement free of cost. I again asked if there was any problem with the part. Although I was told no, I was given customer support's number to call in. They too explained there was not an issue, but were willing to send out a replacement. But when the lady went to check the inventory, she informed me that this part was on back order. I again asked, if this part is on back order, are you sure there isn't a problem. She chuckled and said no. That's when I decided to GOOGLE the problem and discovered I am not alone. I am not an engineer, but the part obviously is not strong enough to handle the stress. So far the only damage is the plastic part.

We purchased all our new appliances GE (refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and washer/dryer) for our new house in October 2009. In six months, I have problems with three of them. The refrigerator's compressor stopped working. The dishwasher sometimes doesn't recognize the door is closed and I have to press the button many times to start it. The washing machine doesn't clean clothes and has the "water saving" feature, the way it works is to only sprinkle your clothes with water which is a failure concept. For the refrigerator, they sent a technician (a week later) who installed a new compressor and put a big scratch and dent on the side of my refrigerator when he pulled it out. The compressor was shipped to my house and came with a big hole on the side of the box and the compressor was not properly packed and was moving all over the box.

The technician admitted that because of that, the new compressor might not work but he installed it anyway. The compressor works, but the refrigerator makes a horrible noise (it sounds like we have 100 crickets in our kitchen). We called GE again and they sent, a week later, someone else who took a look, said there was nothing wrong with the refrigerator and I will get used to the "new sound" in time. He wanted to leave, but under my pressure, he ordered another compressor that will be installed next week. So bottom line, whatever GE was 10-20 years ago is not anymore. The parts are cheap, the quality is poor and the customer service is giving you the runaround. What a disappointment!

In July 2010, we purchased a brand new GE bottom freezer type refrigerator online through Home Depot. About a week later GE delivered and installed the product on a Friday. The refrigerator/freezer worked fine for 2 days. On Monday, we noticed the freezer was thawing out and the fridge was getting warmer even though the controls had not been touched. By Tuesday morning, the entire fridge and freezer was warm. Power was still on as we could here the motor kick in occasionally. We even tried unplugging and plugging it back in. On Tuesday morning, I proceeded to contact Home Depot about this. I asked to either send a tech out right away or I want it picked up. I discovered Home Depot doesn't do the actual delivery or pick up of home appliances, the manufacturer does, so the person at Home Depot gave me the number for GE.

Here's where it gets more frustrating. When you call GE, all you get is an electronic voice on the other end. The voice asks you questions that you can answer verbally and it responds. The soonest a tech could come and look at our fridge was 2 weeks out. Thinking I could trick the voice into letting me talk to a human being I kept answering "no" that date is not good enough. Finally the voice said "wait while we connect you to our customer service". I waited a few seconds while listening to music then another electronic voice came on and said, "we're sorry your call cannot be connected at this time", and I was disconnected. I tried this several times throughout the day and got the same result. On Wednesday, I called and spoke to the Home Depot manager. He took down all my information and said he'd get back to me in an hour.

He did call back about 3 hours later and said he could not get hold of anyone at GE either. He said his delivery people could not come into our house to pick up the fridge but if we can get it to the garage they can pick it up. I went with that option with the help of my son were able to move the fridge downstairs, out the door and into the garage. I will get my refund from Home Depot and go buy another fridge somewhere else and I guarantee it will not be a GE. I will never purchase another GE product and would advice anyone else reading this to do the same. By the way, we couldn't even get in contact with GE to file a claim for our lost food.I forgot to mention when we emptied the fridge just before moving it, the freezer had gotten so warm that the pizza bread we had actually rose and was all over the bottom freezer. GE should sell this as an oven, not a freezer.

Then it will start working again for no apparent reason. 4) Presently, the freezer door will not open any further than about 12 inches. There is no ice or anything else blocking the door. We can't figure out what happened. It seems something broke on the left slider.

He came out 3 times in one month and all GE could say was that that only counts as one repair. Shortly after that, the same exact thing has happened and again I lose all the food due to freezer frost, freezer is totally filled with ice.

GE tells me I need to defrost the freezer. Again, three more visits were scheduled by GE in which the first actually scheduled repair guy doesn't do repairs in my area on the scheduled date. I waited at home all day and no one comes. A new repair guy was sent out the next day to deem the unit unrepairable. I contacted GE to let them know what the guy said and at that point, I was told to wait for them to get their report.

Three days or so, I'm not even home and I get a call from my daughter that a new repairman is at my home (unscheduled). He said it's unrepairable. Later that same day, another repair guy shows up at my home. I have spoken to at least 8-10 people by now and I need to know if I should get a lawyer? I have put a call into Attorney General (Martha **) office and am waiting a return call from her. I paid $2400.00 for this unit and I certainly think it should last more than a year’s time. GE says it’s no longer their problem, it's the extended warranty company's problem (Assurant). Assurant's people says it’s GE's problem. Still, my freezer doesn't work and I'm using a 15-year-old freezer in my basement (2 floors down to hold my frozen things.

I initially called GE Service and they sent out a service man who told me that I should never have purchased a Scratch and Dent in the first place, and by the way, I needed to keep dust out from behind the appliance because my dusty house was keeping it from working properly. It turned out that vacuuming two times a week wasn't enough to fix the problem and moving the fridge twice a week was bad for my kitchen floor and my back.

I called a local high-end appliance store and they sent out a repairman, who said that the motherboard needed to be replaced and that this was very common for GE refrigerators. For nearly $300, the motherboard was replaced.

Thirteen months later, it's doing the same thing and that high-end appliance store no longer services these crappy appliances. I've tried another and their serviceman says that a fan needs to be replaced. it's cheaper than the motherboard, so we'll see what happens.

The product sucks! I have the same ongoing cooling/freezing problem as all the other complainants. Do not buy their products! I Had a repairman over three times now and have paid $250, and it still doesn't work properly and he assured me that there will always be ongoing problems because of its poor design. He also told me that I would not get anything out of the company as they have been sold, and new owners don't care about consumers. I wish I could afford to buy another fridge. I bought this one with inheritance money when my mom passed away.

I purchased a GE Profile Energy Star 20.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator with icemaker on bottom drawer (PFCS1NFXSS) in August of 2008. In July 2010, it started making a loud whittling, humming noises and the temperature started fluctuating wildly! After reading all the complaints, it sounds like the issue may be the motherboard, fan or condenser. I purchased it from Home Expo that went out of business, therefore never got an extended warranty purchase notice and now I'm stuck with a large bill and stress! I would never purchase a GE product again! If GE is aware of these issues, why aren't they fixing it!

I purchased a $2,000.00 GE French door counter depth fridge from the Home Depot and it was delivered on 6-16-2009. It started running a lot in December. By January, it was not cooling right, and the freezer wasn't working right either. I called GE service out, the serviceman replace the motherboard. The fridge still wasn't working right, so I had service back out. This time, the same serviceman told me that the problem was with the power supply to my house. I paid for an electrician to come out, and he found nothing wrong with my electrical service, so I had GE back out requesting that they send a seasoned serviceman this time.

This serviceman went through the same steps of hooking up his computer to the unit, and said he was getting okay readings. I suggested he check the freon level, so when he did that, he found the fridge was a few pounds short, and decided I had a slow leak in the system. My sealed system was then cut, and a new compressor, line dryer, and freon installed. I asked if this was going to take care of the problem, and the reply I got was, "You should know in 6 months, that's how long it took to leak down before." So here it is four months later, and the fridge isn't working again.

I call in for service, the same serviceman comes out, plugs in his computer and says the reading are alright. He then opens the doors to the refrigerator section, and sees that my food is all sweaty and decided that it is an airflow problem. Seeing that I had nothing blocking the air vents, he decides that there must be a restriction in the air diffuser.

He takes it all apart and finds nothing, so he says, "They put it in wrong at the factory, it's mounted too high and too much air is going to the fresh foord rawers and not enough into the box." So he glues the part back in, and says, "That should take care of it. If it doesn't, I will put a new fan in." By the evening, it was very clear that not only didn't he fix them problem, he made it worst. I got out a digital probe, and a mercury thermometer and found that my fridge was at 47 degrees but of course, the service department was already closed.

So this morning 6/25, I made sure I was on the phone at 8:00 am to be one of the first callers of the day and get service back out. I was told that they couldn't get anyone out until Monday - 3 days away. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told she wasn't there, but they would have Hope call me back in an hour. The call never came, and after many run around calls back to GE, I headed to the Home Depot to see if they could help in any way. Sales specialist Michelle ** got on the phone with Walter and he said he would exchange the fridge, but the line that makes that fridge is down and won't be back up until July 15. He then spoke again to Michelle and gave her the model number to an upgrade fridge that she could show me, and he got back on the phone with me.

I then told him that rather than tying up the store's phone line and help, I would go home and phone him back. I asked him for his phone number, and he gave me the service number. I asked for his extension and he said he didn't have one, but they would transfer me to him when I called. I go home, place the call, asked to be transferred to Walter and I don't get him, I get Ms. **. After speaking to her, she tells me that she will issue a refund to the store, but I would have to fax the a copy of my receipt. Not having a fax machine, I drive up to FedEx and make 19 attempts to fax the information to the number, but can't. I then drive back home, call back to the very caring GE and can't get transferred to Ms. **, but am given to yet another person claiming to be a supervisor named Chaneca. I tell her what the problem is with the fax, and she informs me to keep trying until I can get through, and then once it's sent, it will take 24 hours for the information to be put into the system, and then at that time, someone will call me back. By this time I was fit to be tied, so back up to Home Depot I go.

This time I get assistant manager Kathy ** involved. I told her my tale, showed he the failed fax receipts, and she got on the phone with GE. She is told they will give the store a credit if they fax the sales receipt to them. After much time, and 4 fax numbers later, GE informs Kathy that there must be a problem with the fax machines and they would call service to look at them! Kathy calls me later, and informs me that they still couldn't get a fax to them, and it would now have to wait until Monday.

While typing this, Kathy just called me back to inform me that she took a picture of my receipt with her BlackBerry and emailed it to GE, and they now have it, but the store credit won't be issued until Monday! I told her that I do not want another GE product in my house now that I know that their servicemen are part replacers and not repair people. She asked me to come back down to the store, and get with Al the salesman, and see what he can find for me, they would try to hurry things along, but the next delivery day is Friday!

So here I sit with a refrigerator who's digital read out says my unit is at 35 degrees, but the mercury thermometer says is at 42 degrees right now, and food that is too warm to the touch to trust, and wonder what new adventure awaits me when I head back up to Home Depot in a few minutes. I guess that GE must feel that once they have your money, you should be happy to wait for repairmen, be happy that the keep replacing parts, and don't worry because sooner or later they should hit upon the right part to make the unit work.

It is hard to run a household without a refrigerator. We seldom eat out because both my husband and I have health issues, and it is much easier, and safer to make meals at home. I spent $2,000 plus another almost $300 for a service contract on an appliance that I thought I could depend on. I have spent a whole day angry and trying to get resolve, but it still looks that I am going to be without a refrigerator for some time. I have lost food, but by the time all the calling went on today, and now having to run back to Home Depot at 7:33 pm, I have not had time nor the will to call another department to find out how to get a food loss claim done. My special order fridge for my just remodeled kitchen has to be replaced and my stomach hurts just thinking about all of this.

I have been battling the non-repairable refrigerator since April 19, 2010. A refrigerator was delivered and taken back because it was defective. No refrigerator was reordered to take the place of the defective one and several weeks went by with no correspondence from the GE company. I called about 2 weeks ago and found out that no refrigerator had been ordered to replace the defective one and once again had to wait for a replacement to be ordered.

Yesterday, Andrew called to see how my new refrigerator was doing and I informed him I had no refrigerator. At that point, my patience had been depleted and I wanted to know when to expect my new one. Once again, I was told no refrigerator was ordered even after I spoke to the lady 2 weeks ago. He in turn told me he would have to place the order and it is now again 2 more weeks or waiting. At this point, I am not sure I want to do business with GE. I am to the point of wanting my money returned in full along with the $107 for a motor installed in the non-repairable refrigerator that is still in my house.

We are on our second GE (possessed) refrigerator. The first one was purchased in 2003 Freezer on top. About 2 years after purchase it started running intermittently causing food to thaw and spoil. I was glad I bought the extended warranty. When the technician arrived it would be operating. This went on for several months. The tech was a reasonable person who admitted seeing this with other units and said the problem was internal and the box needed to be replaced and sent in his records requesting a change out of the box. I would not hear from GE so I would call them. They were rude and said that the tech never ordered a new unit and that my unit is fine and there is nothing wrong with it and inferred that I was telling lies.

This went on and on and I would call when it went out again and they would send the same tech who would become upset that they would not listen to him. Finally GE sent out another independent tech that laughed and said that the problem was internal and the box could not be repaired and he would send a request to replace the unit. A week went by and I called GE again who said that the independent tech said the unit was running therefore there is nothing wrong with it and the tech never recommended replacing the unit. I called the independent tech that immediately faxed his notes and request again and was ignored. The box stopped again and I called for service again. The same tech showed up and was concerned that we had a problem with our new refrigerator. He called me on my cell. When I told him that we still had the old unit he almost had a stroke. He called GE, was put on hold for 30 minutes after explaining the problem to them and then they hung up on him! He called his supervisor who arranged the replacement after numerous conversations. It took about 2 weeks.

Now we have the replacement unit that is just over 4 years old. We did not buy the extended warranty because I told my wife that the first time this thing quits it is in the junk pile. Guess what, it is doing the exact same thing the old unit did. It runs, kicks out temp goes from -2 to 32. I cleaned the condenser in the back, unplugged the unit, waited 15 minutes and plugged it back in and it is off and running. I just ordered a new Whirlpool that will be delivered in two days. I can't wait to get this pile of junk out of my house. I would not take a chance on getting this thing repaired my sanity it too valuable. What scares me is that these dopes make jet engines. OMG. I cannot describe the demeanor of those who I spoke to at GE over the years who had the nerve to stop short of calling me a liar. They didn't win because every time I get a chance to convince someone to buy an appliance other than GE I am the one who is the winner. The stress and strain was unbelievable and we lost probably over $1,000 in food over the years.

Around 2 months ago, the unit stops cooling at all. When I called GE, I told them of the problem with the computer board, etc. They apologize and said that they will be sending someone out in 4 days at no charge to me. They were able to get a technician to me in 2 days, but when the tech arrived, he said that I had to pay for labor.

When I called GE, the customer service rep said that I now had to pay for labor. I was upset, but needed my refrigerator repaired. The tech left without repairing because he had no parts to repair the unit and had to order it. If GE is aware that they have problems with the computer board and these refrigerators, the customer should not have to pay to get their unit repaired or replaced. This is GE's problem and they will not handle it correctly. I will never buy another GE product in my life.

My refrigerator started dying overnight Thursday 4/15; I called on Friday 4/16 for service and was referred by GE to Allen and Sons at 1-800-828-0887. They said that they could not do anything until they got a work order faxed to them from GE. GE Service department was not available till Monday morning, so I called at 6 am Pacific Time. After they received the work order from GE on Monday, Allen and Sons called to schedule an appointment for Tuesday.

Tuesday 4/20 Roy showed up at noon and spent about 2 hours here and said that he would have to come back the next day to do the repair. Wednesday 4/21 Roy showed up again at 2:30 to repair; again he was here for about 2 hours. While doing the "repair" he burned some holes in my bamboo flooring in front of the refrigerator while soldering. Roy said that he had a friend that would be able to repair the floor if we had the materials available. Thursday 4/22 I called to state that the freezer was actually heating instead of cooling (the temp was 74 degrees in the freezer) Roy showed up at 11 am and made an adjustment, and then it started to cool. Thursday 4/22 after 4pm Roy showed up with his friend, Vladimir who looked at the floor and stated that he would repair the damaged area of the floor and asked that we supply the bamboo flooring pieces.

Vladimir's phone number is ** I do not have a card or other information about him; just Roy's word that he is good at flooring. My husband (a contractor) talked to Vladimir and made an appointment to have him come on Monday 4/26 after 4 pm to repair the floor. Friday 4/23 I went shopping and stocked the refrigerator and freezer. Friday evening 4/23, I noticed that things were not frozen in the freezer. I was able to transfer some to another freezer in time, but lost my refrigerated groceries again and a few frozen items. Saturday 4/24 at 8 am I called Allen and Sons again to request another repair -- and they were not able to send anyone again until Monday. I was very upset!

Monday 4/26 between 9-11 am I waited again for the repair man to show up and he did not arrive until almost 1pm. Austin (the new repair man) said that he found a hole in the line and that it needed to be replaced and new refrigerant installed again -- as it had all leaked out. He did not have the refrigerant on hand and he did not have the parts or knowledge to make the repair. He called the office to let them know the status. My husband had me call Vladimir and postpone his floor repair work until after the refrigerator is completely fixed.

I received a call from Carrie at Allen and Son's saying that a "Senior Specialist", Val would be here on Tuesday 4/27 between 11 am and 2 pm and that he would be able to take care of it correctly. Tuesday 4/27 I received a call at 11:20 saying that Val would be here by 11:45 am, he showed up at 12:30 pm with another man to help him. He said as he was leaving that they fixed it and to wait 24 hours before using it, to make sure it was working correctly. They left at 1:30 pm. I have lost time from work, sitting around waiting every day for the repair man to show up. I have lost hundreds of dollars of groceries from the first loss and then again in the second loss. Food is expensive -- I can't afford to keep restocking my refrigerator and then lose it again.

This is my SECOND GE Profile refrigerator. I purchased the first one April 2008; within a year it had so many service calls that they replaced it with a new one in February 2009. Now the new one, only 14 months old is giving me more problems (I believe it has the same issues as the first one - seal system) and more service calls than even the first one did. FIVE service calls and 14 days without the use of my refrigerator are inexcusable. A refrigerator is a major appliance, costing in excess of $2,400. And it should last for at least 20 years. Why is it so difficult for new appliances to be built of the same high quality of years ago? I am very disappointed with my GE product.

This is Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2010 ~ and I am hoping that the refrigerator is fixed permanently. If I have to make yet another call for service -- I will be requesting a replacement. Thursday May 27, 2010 -- ice cream was melted in the freezer late pm. Friday May 28th -- called for service (ice in ice maker had melted and run out all over the floor overnight) Spoke to Andy at GE 800-386-1215 ext 3529. He is sending someone from A&E to check it out and they are able to get someone here sometime today. Case #10902355 Friday May 28th Andy from A&E came and deemed the refrigerator to be unrepairable.

Ryan (800-386-1215 xt #3526 called me from GE - Consumer Advocacy and told me that this is a priority situation, and that he would do what he could to take care of getting a new refrigerator to me as soon as possible. He told me that the previous repairmen should have deemed it unrepairable last month. He told me to go shopping for a refrigerator within the price range that he specified, as the GE web site was down at the time, and let him know which model I would like to have as the replacement.

He told me that I could go buy a mini-refrigerator for up to $100.00 to get through the process and said to fax the receipt to him and he would send out a check for $100.00. I bought the mini-fridge at Costco for $152.24 (including taxes) and faxed the receipt to Ryan on Tuesday June 1st. Ryan acknowledged the receipt of the faxed receipt and said that the check would be issued immediately and put in the mail that day. This was over a 3-day weekend - I had already lost many hundreds of dollars of groceries AGAIN! I also had to prepare food for company for the weekend. (How to keep it cold? - Certainly not in a mini-fridge!) Tuesday, June 1st - I spoke to Ryan and he recommended a replacement that I did not like, so I got the info of the item that I did like and faxed my refrigerator choice to Ryan at 6:44 pm. My choice was GE Profile Model #PGSS5NFYSS.

Wednesday, June 2nd - I called Ryan at 8 am and left a voice message, asking for his response to my fax from the prior evening. No response - so I called again and left another message at 12:30. Ryan returned my call at 12:50 and said that yes he received my fax and that my chosen refrigerator model is in stock and is being processed and to wait for a call from the delivery company to set up the delivery date. I told him that a local store had it in stock and that it could be delivered the next day, I provided the store name, address, phone, fax, and web site. He said that since it is a "Replacement" that it has to come from a GE warehouse - to a delivery company - and then to me, and that was the way it was - and they could not authorize the local dealer.

He also said that he had my faxed receipt for the mini-fridge and that the check would go out that day to reimburse me $100.00 of the $152.24 cost. Thursday, June 3rd - I received a call from GE saying that it could take up to 3 to 5 days to set up the delivery schedule. Monday, June 7th - I called Ryan at 11 am and left a message - wanting to know the status of the delivery of the replacement refrigerator. No response. I called again in the afternoon - no response.

Tuesday, June 8th - I called Ryan at 9:30 am - no answer, so I called again and finally got through to a different person - Vince at ex #5223. I gave him my case number and he said that he would look in to it and get back to me in about 15 minutes. He did NOT call back at 12:45 pm, I called again and could not get thorough to him or Ryan, so I got through to Nicole at xt #5064. Nicole understood my frustration and gave me the information that I was requesting. She said that the refrigerator had been delivered to the delivery company on Friday, June 4th. She then put me on hold and called them to find out the delivery date, she came back on line shortly later and told me that it would be delivered to me on Thursday, June 10th. She gave me the delivery company information: Appliance Installers of California out of Valencia 661-294-6727. They are about an hour and a half away from my home in Goleta. She suggested that I wait till Wednesday to call them regarding the delivery time, and that they should probably call me.

The refrigerator was delivered at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 10th as promised. The unit was delivered, installed and the defective unit was hauled away. The delivery men were professional and were in and out quickly. Although I did have to spend some time and elbow grease trying to remove the entire tape residue on the front of the refrigerator.

After all of this I finally have a new working refrigerator, but have lost two full refrigerator/freezers of food, one in April and one in May. Not only am I out the expense of the groceries that were thrown in the trash, but the inconvenience of no refrigeration for two full weeks in April and again two full weeks May/June.

I was promised a check for $100.00 to help cover PART of the cost of a mini-fridge, but now two weeks after Ryan, Consumer Advocate, said it was going out in the mail, it has still not appeared in my mail box. So I am out of pocket, because of the defective GE refrigerator, probably at least $1,000 in food and $152.24 for the mini-fridge, four full weeks without refrigeration, and I have had to take many hours off of work to be here waiting for the repairman. I would like to be considered to have some of these, if not all expenses reimbursed.

We purchased the GE Monogram Stainless side-by-side cabinet depth 3 years ago as part of a total kitchen remodel. The fridge broke 3 months after delivery. It was the door crisper. Repair man came out, and he pulled out the drawers. I pointed out to him there was ice on the back of the wall where an insulated tubing system went into the freezer. The area was packed in ice. He told me they all did that and that it wasn't a problem. I questioned it, as it did not seem right. Of course, the fridge, after one year, quit working. The fridge froze all around where I had pointed out and froze up the fan. They came out, thawed the fridge, and replaced the "thermister." All is well.

Since the original repair man did not make any notes of my complaint on the frozen area, no proof existed of the problem; and they would not warranty it. The next year, same thing. My husband refused to pay the $290 repair, so the GE guy told him how to do it himself and let him buy the "thermister" for less than $20 plus the $80 repair call. It was an easy installation.

Then the fan broke. Repair man came back out this time. It's the computer board which is $400. I have never had these problems. We replaced the fridge, because the styles/color changed, not because the $3300 fridge broke! I am just livid and am just sure this lemon isn't done breaking.

Oh, the freezer door doesn't stay shut anymore either. This is right on the verge of just buying a new refrigerator from Miele or someone not US-made. I am very pro keeping our money here, but this is ridiculous. I understand these very expensive pieces of junk are all made out of the same place in Indianapolis? It doesn't matter what US manufacturer. My sister purchased the same GE model 2 years ago and has all the same problems, plus she has ice maker meltdown issues. Purchased a G.E. Profile French door bottom freezer refrigerator in August of 2007. Sometime during the first year a small plastic piece broke off from somewhere in the icemaker. The ice comes out in clumps sometimes and we turn it off frequently; otherwise, it makes too much ice! In August of 2009 while I was away on vacation, my son called to tell me it was making a lot of noise and the freezer temp had gone up to the 20s! I told him to call G.E. for service, even though I didn't have a service contract. I can't remember what date they gave him, but the next day it was back to zero and working fine. So he cancelled the call.

This happened twice over the next several months, but it would always go back to its normal range so that I never called GE for service. In May of this year the freezer temp went up again and this time I called a service company we use for our appliances in our apartment buildings. The tech walked in and when he was told what's been happening he immediately said it was the "power board" and the ice cube problem was a faulty inlet valve. Parts were ordered and another tech came and installed everything around noon. When I returned home from work that day, the freezer temp was now at 8 or 10! I waited overnight and in the morning it was still hovering above zero!

I called this company again and spoke to the owner and he came himself and decided it was probably the fan in the back of the fridge. It wasn't cooling the compressor enough, so he ordered a new fan and came back after the weekend to install it. Nothing has changed and the temp in the freezer is still fluctuating! The only item I did throw out was the W.W. individual ice cream bars because they were soft. I was starting to regret not calling GE for service, but after reading the complaints on this site I guess it doesn't matter. I have always had GE refrigerators. My first one lasted more than 20 years. We replaced the next one because my husband wanted the bottom freezer, which I really don't find convenient! That one was working perfectly! I'll continue working with my service company until they get it right, if that's at all possible with anything made by G.E.

I deducted that the fan wasn't working and pulled the back off, then put a 12" fan in back, which cooled it right down. We called GE and the technician came out, sent the 1st guy to the wrong state, he replaced the mother board for free called it a courtesy recall repair.

Last weekend, which is 2 years later, we buy food and it happens again, This time, they charged us $300 and change. The board has a 5 year warranty. I'll never buy another GE product. In 2 years, my wife will get her stainless fridge for sure, just not a GE.

I went to buy Electrolux after tons of research. The salesperson convinced my husband we should go with GE, because it is a much better product and it's been here in the states forever. But Electrolux is new to the US. So we purchased $15,698.00 worth of GE for our new kitchen--$8,000.00 more than the Electrolux would have cost. We have had problem after problem. We purchased in November 2009. The service tech has been here 6 times.

Our refrigerator from the first day (a GE Profile) was not keeping our food cold; meat kept going bad. So Mark, the tech, came and put a part on it he said was missing. How a brand-new 3,000 fridge is missing a part I will never know. Then I had to call Mark back, because the meat is still going bad. He was here yesterday, and after an hour on the phone with GE, they told him the bottom drawer can't be used to store meat. It is meant to only cool beverages. So I now have a fridge I cannot keep meat in, unless I put it on the shelf next to my milk. I would never have purchased a fridge that I cannot keep meat in the meat drawer. I should have been told that when buying.

Yes, the turbo cool drawer is a great feature, if all you want to do is cool a bottle of wine or soda or beer. But if you want to put food in that bottom drawer, forget about it! It stays a nice warm 43 degrees when the turbo feature is not in use. And when you push the button for that feature it only last for a short period of time, then goes back to the warm temp of 43 degrees.

I spoke to a GE Supervisor after the first person I spoke to with GE customer service flatly told me there was nothing they can do. I asked where I should store meat in the fridge. She said to use one of the other drawers, the ones marked "vegetables" or "deli.". I told the tech was just here and measured the temp on those drawers as well and that they are not cold enough to keep meat either. She then said, "Keep your meat wherever you want"!

The supervisor was nicer, but for 20 minutes, she's of no help either. She just kept saying that this model was not designed to keep meat and that it does not have that feature. I explained that was not acceptable. Finally, the only reprieve I was given was I can swap out my fridge and pay the difference. I don't know as of yet what they will charge for this. When I do, I will let you know.

If others are experiencing the same problem, call GE and let them know it is not acceptable. You should have been told this fridge was not designed to store meat. Tell them you want to swap out your fridge with one with meat storage. Be persistent. They told me no several times before they told me yes. I will never buy GE again!

I am not going into detail because the previous experiences explain it quite well. All I have to say is that, I am a successful individual who will be purchasing major appliances at least 4-5 times more in my lifetime. This includes washer, dryer, stove, refrigerator, range, dishwasher, water filtration systems, and microwaves. I will never purchase GE and over the course of my lifetime, this could easily amount to over $100,000. I will find other competitors that offer better service, quality products, and if they cost more, that is fine with me. Additionally, I will ensure that it is not a company that is an affiliate of GE.

I purchased a GE Profile Stainless Steel Counter depth refrigerator the last week of April 2010, it ran fine until Memorial Day, a month after purchase, when it stopped cooling. The freezer temp rose to 64 and the fridge to 70 when I turned off the cooling system. I called Dormont Appliance, the place where I purchased it that Tuesday. They were very apologetic and I had a service tech there that day. The tech stated the Freon had escaped and that the condenser was bad. Of course he didn't have the part, but could come back on Thursday to fix it.

While not the best answer, I could live with my food in a cooler for an extra day. The Tech arrived Thursday morning and began to work. An hour later, he said that he was finished, but that the fridge's computer system was going to have to go through a reboot cycle and it'll be 24 hours before I could put my food in it. I had some concerns about this as I have never heard of a fridge needing 24 hours to start cooling, but he assured me that it was normal and quickly left. 24 hours later, my freezer was at 80 degrees and my fridge was at 75. I shut down the "cooling" system again and called GE directly. While they too were very apologetic, they couldn't get a service tech back to my house for four days. When I protested about the fact that my brand new fridge was serviced twice and still didn't work and that now all my food was spoiling, the GE rep simple stated, "Well, what do you what me to do about it?"

Having no luck there, I called Dormont Appliance and explained to them what was going on. They too were very apologetic and offered to bring me a loaner fridge till mine is fixed. It arrived today while I was at work. I got home and there was my wife with an angry look on her face. The loaner fridge is about 20 years old and there was mold in the freezer! You'd think they would at least have cleaned out the thing before they sent it to my house. Now, for those of you who don't know this, the air in the freezer is circulated through out the unit. Meaning, the air in the freezer is pumped in to the refrigerator to cool it. So, I have the option of not using there loaner fridge or cleaning out the mold so that it isn't circulated to the food in the fridge. So far two days of work lost, couple hundred dollars worth of food and the original cost of the fridge.

I first want to say I will never, ever buy another GE product as long as I live. I purchased a GE refrigerator 3 years ago, from the beginning, I noticed the freezer temperature kept fluctuating to over 16 degrees. I called GE numerous times and was given tips on what to do. I finally had a tech come over and he walked in the house opened the frig said nothing was wrong with it. For the past three summers, I've had a tech come and look at it and was told there was nothing wrong.

Finally, last week a tech came out and replaced the circuit board, things worked fine for about two days. Now the freezer is fluctuating again, as high as 16 degrees. I called GE again and they sent another tech to my home and he said it was a computer issue and replaced some wires. As he left he told me he couldn't guarantee that it was going to work that he just fixed another frig with the same problem a few days ago and he has to go back again because it's still not working. It's bad enough that everything is made overseas but now with the pressure of making energy efficient appliances and the need to make a ridiculous profit, as usual, the consumer loses. Not only am I having all this trouble with my frig, I had purchased a new stove around the same time and I immediately had problems and had to fight with GE to fix it, within the first six months of purchase, they had to replace parts. Our refrigerator is a GE brand model #gsh25jftc ww side by side. We have had this appliance for almost two years. In the past six months, the unit has stopped cooling on four separate occasions requiring service each time. The first two times, an AE technician could not diagnose the problems and proceeded to defrost the unit, which helped the unit to work for two weeks each time. The next to service visits resulted in the circuit board being replaced, which lasted about a month each time. We are now waiting on a fifth service visit because our food has spoiled again.

The customer service from GE has done everything to avoid replacing the $1150 unit. They report that they cannot declare the unit a "lemon" unless the same part has been serviced three times. I have lost several hundred dollars in food, work being missed to meet repair contractors that have no time schedule so I miss work from 8-5 each time, and the money spent to eat out with a family of five.

In my opinion, this is an unacceptable business practice. All I want is my money back so that I may purchase a unit that actually works. My family is suffering the inconvenience of not being to eat a nutritional home cooked meal. My small children can't have milk because it spoils prematurely and the list goes on and on. I'm very frustrated with GE because of their inability to stand behind their product. We have lost everything in our freezer/refrigerator four times in the past six months due to temperature fluctuations. The result in this loss is over $800 in food, $300 in lost time at work to meet service repair contractors, a few hundred dollars eating out with a family of five, stress from dealing with an uncooperative company (GE).

On 1/5/2007, my wife and I purchased a GE #PSS26MGT WW refrigerator from Best Buys in San Jose. By June, we had made our 1st of many calls to Best Buy's appliance service department to resolve the issue of bits of plastic found in our glasses of ice from the door dispenser unit. The service tech ordered and replaced the ice auger/bin. This worked for about 5 months, when once again bits and pieces of plastic were found mixed in with our ice. The largest piece was about 3/4" in diameter, but of more concern at the time were the small slivers which could be ingested easily. Repair people were called once again, and once again a new auger/bin arrived.

6 months later, same issue again! Same repair! 5 months later after that, I had the same issue, same repair. Get the picture! 6 months later, same issue, but this time, the service tech replaced not only the auger/bin accessory; he also ordered and replaced the motor/drive accessory. 4 months go by and another GE appliance we own required repair. While the tech was out for this repair, we asked about the ice bin/auger issue, as we had just found more plastic. The service tech advised that it's a poor design (You think?) and ordered a new auger/bin for us. The tech advised that we should empty out the bin on a regular basis to keep frozen ice from impacting the auger drive that is attached to the motor via a metal fork assy. Right!

Here we are, May of 2010 and guess what, more plastic! We e-mailed GE via their support website. A lady called within a few days. I explained the issue and the number of times we have attempted to have it resolved. She advised that since we did not have a "GE" service plan that we would have to contact Best Buy, have their tech come out, look at the problem and that the tech would contact GE engineering for further assistance in resolving the plastic issue. I guess we'll find out June 2nd if Best Buy service can speak with an engineer, we sure couldn't.

We now have a grandson who could easily swallow a large piece of plastic, so are we to examine each glass of ice? Even if we did, the smaller plastic shavings are lost within the ice, as they are sometimes translucent. Aside of the physical concerns, why should we have to deal with the phone calls and lost amount of time required addressing each occurrence? This is unacceptable!

I bought a GE side by side refrigerator #GSS22KGMDWW, in September 2001. The first year, there were several problems with ice forming in the freezer, and I had at least 10 repairs done (under warranty). Before the warranty expired, GE replaced the refrigerator with another one, but same model. After the class action lawsuit, I contacted GE but since mine was already replaced and I had not had any problems with the new one, I did not get anything.

Last year, in June 2009, frost started building up again in the freezer, and it stopped working. The technician came on 6/9/09, and changed a part. I paid $248.76. In February, I called GE for another problem with the water dispenser, I get it fixed for $258.82. Last week (5/15/10), I again saw frost in the freezer, and called for repair. The technician came, told me the same part as last year needed to be replaced, but because of part warranty, I should only pay for labor, approx $175. After I started questioning why this went wrong and why I had pay the $175 fee, the technician admitted that the problem was not that actual part (for which they wanted me to pay $175 but the problem was with the doors not sealing properly and it would happen again unless I replaced them at a cost of much over $400, the doors by the way are no longer available; I checked with GE). I obviously refused to do that and I was offered a credit of $400 if I purchased a new one, for which I agreed.

However, I should have been told of that problem last year. If I had been told the truth last year about the faulty doors and gotten a new refrigerator then, I would have saved myself the cost of 2 repairs totaling $507.58. I have already spoken to customer service about refunding me that cost but have not heard anything back. In the meantime, I tried to get my new refrigerator from GE with the $400 credit that they offered, but they do not have anything similar to the one I have right now (it will take at least 3 weeks to maybe get it). My refrigerator now does not work since I will not pay for fixing it again, and GE cannot get me a similar one. They also will not let me buy one from another dealer, as they will not honor the $400 credit.

I paid over $500 in unnecessary repairs during the last 11 months, do not have a refrigerator, and I will probably have to buy one from another dealer, since I cannot wait for GE to provide me with a refrigerator. Therefore, I will lose the $400 credit, on top of the $500 on useless repairs.

I purchased a new GE Profile Refrigerator, double doors on top and freezer on bottom, in 2006 from a well-known business in New Hope, MN. A few days after I purchased it, I noticed scratches in the stainless steel freezer door. I called them, and they took a freezer door off a floor model and exchanged it. I thought that was rather cheap of them.

My next experience came when the black rubber seals around both the refrigerator doors were coming apart. I called whom I purchase it from, and they sent out a service man to repair it. Of course, keep in mind that they never have the parts in their truck, so they always have to order the parts and then make a return service call.

A few months later, the black rubber seals needed repair again. Another call and 2 more service calls. The next time it happened, they informed me that my refrigerator was no longer in warranty. I called GE and spoke with them, and they said I had a 30-day grace period. A repair man was sent out, and they ordered 2 new doors, as they couldn't seem to get this problem fixed. Once the refrigerator was out of warranty, I immediately called Service Plus and put it on a contract. That was one of the best things I did.

In 2007, Service Plus put in a new computer board, and since then, they have come out several times for loud noise, which they said were normal in this refrigerator. Yesterday, 4/12/10, they came out as there was glue coming out the frame of the freezer, sticking on the rubber seal, and dripping on the floor.

Service plus came out and cleaned the glue substance but not the problem. I then called GE and got absolutely nowhere. They said it would cost $74.95 for a service call and then parts and labor.

So, I decided to call back Service Plus; they came out again. The man noticed how hot the freezer box was. He said it was either the fan for the cooling system or the computer board was not working again. He replaced both items on the unit. This man saved me approx $500.00 in repairs.

GE told me I could either have them come out or do whatever I want with the refrigerator. My complaint certainly is not with the company I purchased this from or Service Plus. My complaint is the lemon refrigerator I purchased and also the bad service I received from GE. From what I see, GE has a lot of bad refrigerators out there at our cost. I personally will never purchase or recommend a GE product to anyone. I'm glad that I never purchased one with any ice or water. Just something else to go wrong.

"GE side-by-side ice in door fridge model no. GSS22JEPCWW. I remember having a used fridge in my new house when I moved in back in the early 70s. It was still working when I moved out of the place in 1985 and it never required service! In 1985, we moved to our current townhouse. Up until a fire in September 2002, which destroyed our place, the brand new fridge that had come with the townhouse was working well and had never had service. However, in April 2003, upon moving back into the townhouse, we purchased the subject fridge from Home Depot as part of the fire insurance claim. The claim would allow only a replacement of the existing basic fridge, but we opted to pay the extra to purchase a better product, the GE side by side with ice maker fridge of our dreams.

Instead, it has become the fridge of nightmares. We love the functionality and features of the fridge, but we are shocked at the number of service calls and amount of money we have had to spend to keep it working. The first 3 or 4 calls can be explained by a problem within the first month or so with the ice maker of the original fridge. After several attempts to fix the problem, we were provided a brand new fridge. Since then, we have had about 7 service calls (confirmed by your service department), all of which we have had to pay for as they were past the warranty date. In 2007, we had to have a motor replaced and now 3 short years later, we have had to have the exact same problem fixed to the tune of $204.87.

At the time the fridge was repaired in 2007, we noticed an annoying and very loud high pitched whine coming from the freezer compartment. The only way we could stop this horrible noise was to turn the freezer off, wait a few minutes and then turn it back on. Of course, it would start in again shortly. Tired of paying to repair the fridge, we did not call the repair person back in and over time, the whining stopped but then so did the fridge! Now, having had another service call just 2 weeks ago, the freezer is making the same impossible whine. We have called for service and been warned it could cost us even though the service warranty is 90 days. We would appreciate hearing from you about what you would consider to be acceptable in terms of the reliability of and lifetime of this fridge as we feel just plain ripped off. We always thought GE was a brand with a long history of reliability and solid products, but this fridge is fast changing our attitude."

More than 2 weeks later, we had not received a reply so I contacted GE Corporate where I was treated very well and told that they would talk to Mabe who would contact us soon. In the meantime, the repair guy came again regarding the whining from the fridge and he said "they all make that noise". Yesterday, May 11th, we got a call from Mabe offering us $102 half of the last service call. I found it insulting considering all the inconvenience and ruined food we have dealt with since 2003. At least they agreed that all fridges don't make that loud whining noise, but said we have to call the repair guy again. I have now written to GE corporate again saying it's just not acceptable so we'll see what happens.

We purchased two kitchen appliances in August of 2003 when we remodeled our kitchen. We went with top of the line GE Profile models as we wanted to have good quality as we expected to not have any major repairs and they would last a long time, close to $5000 with taxes. We had a few issues with the ice maker and water dispenser within the first few years, nothing that we couldn't wiggle and jiggle back into operation.

Last October 2009 (six years old), the whole fridge operation shut down and water was everywhere. We had a reputable serviceman come to our rescue (we were no longer under warranty) and the problem was a loose wire but he said it could be the circuit board acting up. (This was $100 service call) The fridge worked fine until May 2010 and the fridge shut down again! The same service person came again and went over the entire fridge which he could not fix at the time because he said the circuit boards need replacing (another $100 service call). We asked him to check the cost on replacing boards, as he said they are not cheap as he has replaced lots, and also has hauled a lot of GE to landfill.

To replace two boards and tear the fridge apart because of where the boards are located would put the repair bill up to around $700 with only a 90 day warranty. You do the math! Needless to say, we are not going to put any more money into this GE Profile Fridge. $900 in repairs is not acceptable. Personally, I think GE should be responsible for environment charges as it is going to the landfill site. You have lost my business. I'm going to buy the cheapest non electronic fridge because everything is disposable with a life expectancy of 10 years (if you're lucky). A word of advise, hang onto your old clunkers. I bought a house that had a brand-new GE refrigerator. I peeled the plastic and installed the waterlines; that's how new it was. After two months of use, the fridge stops cooling in both sides of fridge and freezer. I followed the troubleshooting directions specifically. The manual also said to leave the fridge plugged in until a service tech can come to investigate the problem. So it's left plugged in.

I decided to get online and try and find my model number and any other problems. Well, come to find out my model number is not found on GE's site, and very sporadically on the internet. It redirects to a different model each time. Invalid model number obviously. So I ended up having to call GE, and they setup a service call. Well, long story short, they set up so far 5 service calls, and I have a direct line to the supervisor (who never answers the phone) and have been dealing with someone at the corporate location as well (who also failed to set up a proper service call).

Each time a service appointment is made, it was canceled by their service techs because I am supposedly "out of their area," and no one bothered to call me back. This has happened 1 - 2 times each week for the last month so far.

I have had one person who was finally able to come out and check the fridge out who corporate hired. However, when he arrived, he noticed the mold and such in the fridge from it having taken so long to get someone out there. He had said it was an easy fix, and as he started to weld the back of the fridge, it caught fire. That's right, it caught fire because it had sat for so long, oil had collected in the place he had to weld. He called GE, and they claimed they're going to replace the entire unit.

Back to trying to get someone out here with a new unit is nearly impossible. I live about 30 miles outside of the 4th largest city in the US (Houston), and no one can come out here? But back to the same problems as before. This week marks a month since this has began. GE has supposedly issued me checks to help reimburse me for the $400 of groceries I had just bought and supposedly a check to help get a temporary fridge until they can fix mine or replace it. Neither of which have been received yet.

GE refused to give me the contact information for the people who they are scheduling appointments with, so that I can verify and check their scheduling for me. I just got off the phone with GE again, because no one has called me to schedule service yesterday, only for me to find out that again there is no one who can service my area.

I am a single mother and a college student, trying to just get my fridge fixed. This is ridiculous! I will never buy a GE product again. If I had the choice, I'd take the one they give me and sell it, but I need one. My question is why the model number discrepancies? Why the service tech problems? Why not issue me a refund? Why waste my time?

This caused economic consequences. I am living out of a cooler for my cold products in Texas. Ice does not last long, and it's getting expensive having to buy ice daily; just gas in traveling alone is adding up. Having to buy daily cold products is adding up, as it spoils in a few days in an ice chest. Also, we have physical damage. How about the near fact that the service tech nearly burned my house down by catching the oil inside the fridge on fire? Not to mention the fact my 3-year-old is suffering, as I can't even keep products cold enough to be able to make her her favorite lunches for school. Absolutely absurd!

I can guarantee that I will never buy anything from GE again even if it is free. Loss of over $500.00 worth of food. Had to wait weeks for parts to come in (Guess what no refrigerator for food). Numerous service charges totaling a good chunk of change. Also, when the GE serviceman came out to replace the board on the refrigerator numerous times, he did not document our service calls according to the home office of GE. They pretty much said "so sorry" not our problem.

My original refrigerator was recalled because of problems with the ice maker and they sent me a new one. Hahaha, supposedly better. I have replaced the auger myself two times and the complete ice bucket one time. I too was getting bits of plastic in my cup every time I used the ice dispenser. The auger breaks because the water that is suppose to say in the ice making area runs over into the ice bucket and then freezes and the auger has to break through the large piece ice formed in the bottom of the bucket and, therefore, since it is plastic, breaks.

Now, to top all of that off, my three-year old refrigerator, which replaced the one that was recalled, is going to cost me another $282.22 to place the heater in it. The heater quit working and the back of the freezer and the elements and tubing going to the ice maker are all frozen and the fridge side quit cooling. This is the worst product I have ever purchased. I have spent over $600 on this new and improved fridge. I will never and I mean never purchase another GE product.

Our GE refrigerator is only 5 years old. When it was just over 2 years old and just out of warranty, the ice maker broke down. We had to pay a repairman over 200 dollars to have it repaired. Now the ice maker is not working right again. It makes almost no ice. Often we have no ice. We have no ice or very little ice for our drinks. We paid a lot of money for this refrigerator (about 1000 dollars) and will probably have to replace it at only 5 years of age.

Each time, I have had to pay the service charge and the cost of the part. I purchased it at a small appliance store in Amory, MS. We purchased our home about 7.5 years ago. We purchased a full kitchen appliance package, all GE. I have always been a GE customer. After a while, we noticed the doors on the side-by-side freezing up. My husband thawed this frost-free freezer and we kind of forgot about it. It continued to do it and we were at a neighbors who told us she had the same problem and that there was a recall on this refrigerator. I went online, found out the info and called GE. They said I had called "just in time" for this so-called recall. They sent out a tech, who proceeded to tell me "yes, the doors were freezing up", but he wanted to "try something" before he replace them as they had to be ordered. I reminded him that the recall would be ending. His answer, "well, I am here so it's okay".

He put some part in the back of the ice maker. We thought it would be fixed, think again. My husband continued to have to thaw this freezer every two weeks. Finally, he said "you better call them again". The same tech came out and said "too bad, the recall is over". I was furious as was my husband. This tech stood in my kitchen for an hour pretending to be getting info from his superior, until I finally said enough is enough. He did nothing and was quite rude about it. At first, lying he had not been to my home before, but then admitting he had. I was never offered the papers that now I was told by Kelli at corporate I should have been. Now the ice maker is spitting out plastic parts as well. My husband, thank God, found it before he choke on it. I have found them in my glass of ice as well.

I called GE today as we cannot afford a new refrigerator. Their answer, "sorry, you didn't fill out the papers" which conveniently were never sent or offered and "we would be willing to give you a prorated $400. Discount on a new model if you get it from us, we will even wave shipping". Are they for real? Why would I buy another GE product after this and I cannot afford another refrigerator. Things are tight. GE was deceptive when the problem first started. The GE tech was rude and didn't do his job and in the end, we ended up with nothing but heartache and frustration. I will never buy another GE appliance. We have to thaw out the freezer every two weeks. We have lost untold amount of food. The entire freezer gets covered with ice on the inside and food thaws. Ice maker parts in ice and husband and I both could have choke on them.

When people visit, we are afraid if they use the ice that they could choke on a piece of the ice maker. I have been a GE customer all my life. My parents and I will never be again. As soon as I can afford to replace all the GE products I have in this house, I will be happy. GE doesn't care about their customers.

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator with a both freezer in October of 2007. A few days ago, I noticed that the temperature in the freezer and the fridge was gradually going up. I though maybe I had left a door open, but the next day after I had checked to be sure the doors were closed, the temp was still going up. A tech came out April 16th to "repair" it. He repaired the ASM board and said it would be cooled down by the afternoon (this was at 8:30 am).

By 3 pm, the fridge's temp had not budged. I called GE and tried to get them to send someone out that day but they said they couldn't. They then told me I had to wait for 24 hours for the temp to go back down to where it needed to be. I asked for the number to corporate to lodge a complaint but the number they gave me would never let me get to a live person.

Over 24 hours later, the temperatures of the fridge and freezer had not changed. I called GE again and told them that someone needed to come out and fix it. They don't send techs out on weekends apparently and said no one could see it until Monday between 8-5. I explained to them that I am working at a new employer and taking time off is not an option. Waiting until my day off on Friday is not an option either. They were apologetic to a point but firm in not sending anyone out.

I refused to believe that a company as large as GE doesn't have someone that they can call to deal with emergency cases but considering they are also incapable of manufacturing a quality product that doesn't break down within 2-3 years of it being purchased, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I would never recommend any products made by this company to anyone. They are a sham and a joke. I am very displeased with the product I received and the lack of adequate customer service. I paid over $1700 for this fridge and $287 for parts and labor that didn't even repair it. I lost $75 worth of food and will have to spend at least that much to buy ice to keep my food in a cooler for the next week.

I have a bottom-freezer GE Profile refrigerator that I bought new in September 2004 for about $2,000 CDN, from a local store that has since gone out of business. I declined to purchase the extended 5-year warranty, which turned out to be a good thing. Shortly after the warranty would have expired, the evaporator fan began to freeze up and stop blowing, in Jan. 2010. (The compressor is fine, and food in the bottom-mount freezer remains frozen, but the upper fridge part warms up because the cold air is no longer being blown into it.) I have had the fan repaired twice, it just died for the 3rd time (early April 2010).

The independent repairman who came out was kind enough not to charge me for the 2nd visit, but told me the problem is not that, it wasn't repaired properly the 1st time, but that it is a GE design problem. That he has contacted GE about it, even with a suggestions for a permanent fix, but been told that GE is not interested in hearing his solution because it will negate their EnergyStar rating.

That solution is to place a small silicone heat bud in the channel where the water from the self-defrosting tubes runs. The evaporator fan works both to evaporate this water (so the fridge never needs defrosting) and also to circulate the cold air from the compressor. Because the water and the fan are so close to the compressor, the water is in danger of freezing (and causing all kinds of other problems) if the fan ever stops. So far, the only word I have from GE is that the warranty on the fan ran out in Sept. 2005 and there is nothing they can do for me and since the store where I purchased the fridge is no longer in business, I am S.O.L.

In the meantime, I am waiting word on whether or not the repairman can find a small enough silicone heat bud for my fridge, the ones he usually carries are made for much larger commercial (retail) fridges and will not fit in the channel in my fridge. Also, because he has had to remove the plastic compressor cover (located inside the fridge, below the produce drawers) so many times, it is in danger of cracking and breaking, and it is over $200 just to replace that cover! In the last 3 months, I have thrown out so much food that I now have a small bar-sized fridge that I use for back-up, which has worked so me so far; but the kids will all be home from university for the summer at the end of the month and the bar fridge barely holds enough food for one meal for them, let alone a week's worth of food! I am beyond frustrated, but one thing is for certain: I will never, never buy another GE appliance!

As a former full time technician, and now part time, I can tell you that generally, GE products are very good. This refrigerator, however, has some serious problems. Maytag had similar trouble about 20 years ago when they brought out a new line of refrigerators. It had so many bugs in it, and took a while for them to catch up with the proper fixes for it. Most of the problems come from "new" technology and computer-driven appliances. With this model, replacing the ASM main control board seems to fix all.

The refrigerator temperature control is sometimes compromised by a frozen dampener control. Don't trust any thermometer unless it is digital. If you have not purchased it yet or want a new appliance in the future, I would recommend simple controls and less gadgets on it. Simple is reliable and cheap to fix when it breaks. GE is a good product, but unfortunately this particular model line has problems.

The fridge has problems and more parts breaking and falling off than any other product I've ever purchased. It's cheap plastic rather than the high end product that I assumed, I was purchasing. I cannot believe the lack of quality in this high product. The service contract company, Federal Warranty Service Corp., who is a Home Depot contractor has had multiple errors and problems with scheduling repair and claims.

There is total miscommunication with the contract company which, at one point, resulted in terminating my contract due to miscommunication. This has been a month of problems and issues with product and service. I have lost several days of work waiting for GE service, that was scheduled to arrive, but the tech never showed. The service company; too many issues for me to ever deal with them again and I doubt that I'll ever purchase another GE product.

The Home Depot, once contacted, helped resolve the contract issue and some money via Home Depot gift cards was given to me but not the full amount paid for the refrigerator. I have lost food as a result of all these problems.

(supervisor) called back and said GE would replace the refrigerator, at no cost, with a similar model. It would be available at March 12th and they would call to set up installation.

I called today as I haven't heard anything and I was told we had to pay 40% of the new one, at $2500! I told them that was not what I was told and she (can't remember her name but is a different supervisor) said, "We are not going to give you a free refrigerator. You agreed to pay the 40%." This was never mentioned in the call with Mrs. R. and we would not ever again pay for anything made by GE. In March 2010 my GE Adora side-by-side refrigerator freezer section temperature began to slowly rise up to an unacceptable 11 degrees. For fear of losing the freezer contents, I contacted Home Depot where this unit was purchased, who directed me to the GE Warranty Center. The Center relayed my extended warranty had expired at the end of September 2009, but they could send a repair company out, but not until the next afternoon. This not being an acceptable answer, I contacted a local service provider certified for GE appliances who, fortunately, was able to come within a couple of hours. (I do admit to not renewing the extended warranty as my previous refrigerator (different name brand) had absolutely no problems for over 20 years and was only replaced to update my kitchen decor.)

After the repair representative reviewed the system, he informed me that the main board would need to be replaced to the tune of $400.00, more than 25% of my original unit purchase price. He said that he carries a couple of boards with him all the time since normally this is the issue when the unit's temperature is not staying consistent.

This is appalling! I purchased GE appliances with the understanding they were sturdy and reputable, per the store's salesperson. I never in my wildest dreams expected in less than 4 years to have to invest in such a repair after such a short amount of time in use. But now I see I may be on the luckier side after reading reports of others' consistent issues. We bought a GE Profile side by side stainless steel fridge with ice maker during kitchen re-model in 2006. Within the first year, ice formed at the back of the lower storage compartment where cold air comes out. I contacted GE and they sent out a technician installing a patch kit. But that did not fix the problem. Every 2 months we’ll have to defrost the fridge manually (by unplugging it) to get rid of the ice accumulation. Otherwise, the fridge is not keeping cold.

Then at 2009, the ice from the ice-maker bucket started to melt. The freezer upper portion temperature did not stay low enough. My husband managed to get a repair manual and did a self diagnostic. It pointed the problem being the circuit board. We bought a circuit board from eBay and installed it ourselves. It costs a little over $100. It saves us money because we did not buy the extended warranty. I do not know what is going to go next. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Never buy GE again.
