I bought a house that had a brand-new GE refrigerator. I peeled the plastic and installed the waterlines; that's how new it was. After two months of use, the fridge stops cooling in both sides of fridge and freezer. I followed the troubleshooting directions specifically. The manual also said to leave the fridge plugged in until a service tech can come to investigate the problem. So it's left plugged in.
I decided to get online and try and find my model number and any other problems. Well, come to find out my model number is not found on GE's site, and very sporadically on the internet. It redirects to a different model each time. Invalid model number obviously. So I ended up having to call GE, and they setup a service call. Well, long story short, they set up so far 5 service calls, and I have a direct line to the supervisor (who never answers the phone) and have been dealing with someone at the corporate location as well (who also failed to set up a proper service call).
Each time a service appointment is made, it was canceled by their service techs because I am supposedly "out of their area," and no one bothered to call me back. This has happened 1 - 2 times each week for the last month so far.
I have had one person who was finally able to come out and check the fridge out who corporate hired. However, when he arrived, he noticed the mold and such in the fridge from it having taken so long to get someone out there. He had said it was an easy fix, and as he started to weld the back of the fridge, it caught fire. That's right, it caught fire because it had sat for so long, oil had collected in the place he had to weld. He called GE, and they claimed they're going to replace the entire unit.
Back to trying to get someone out here with a new unit is nearly impossible. I live about 30 miles outside of the 4th largest city in the US (Houston), and no one can come out here? But back to the same problems as before. This week marks a month since this has began. GE has supposedly issued me checks to help reimburse me for the $400 of groceries I had just bought and supposedly a check to help get a temporary fridge until they can fix mine or replace it. Neither of which have been received yet.
GE refused to give me the contact information for the people who they are scheduling appointments with, so that I can verify and check their scheduling for me. I just got off the phone with GE again, because no one has called me to schedule service yesterday, only for me to find out that again there is no one who can service my area.
I am a single mother and a college student, trying to just get my fridge fixed. This is ridiculous! I will never buy a GE product again. If I had the choice, I'd take the one they give me and sell it, but I need one. My question is why the model number discrepancies? Why the service tech problems? Why not issue me a refund? Why waste my time?
This caused economic consequences. I am living out of a cooler for my cold products in Texas. Ice does not last long, and it's getting expensive having to buy ice daily; just gas in traveling alone is adding up. Having to buy daily cold products is adding up, as it spoils in a few days in an ice chest. Also, we have physical damage. How about the near fact that the service tech nearly burned my house down by catching the oil inside the fridge on fire? Not to mention the fact my 3-year-old is suffering, as I can't even keep products cold enough to be able to make her her favorite lunches for school. Absolutely absurd!

We bought the GE Profile Series for our kitchen and have had nothing but problems. The main board on the refrigerator keeps going out and GE's answer was oh well, we have replaced this board several times. Also, my GE Dishwasher keyboard keeps breaking and there are only 2 people in this house so it has not been used that much at all. GE doesn't seem to care about their products or their customers.
I can guarantee that I will never buy anything from GE again even if it is free. Loss of over $500.00 worth of food. Had to wait weeks for parts to come in (Guess what no refrigerator for food). Numerous service charges totaling a good chunk of change. Also, when the GE serviceman came out to replace the board on the refrigerator numerous times, he did not document our service calls according to the home office of GE. They pretty much said "so sorry" not our problem.

My original refrigerator was recalled because of problems with the ice maker and they sent me a new one. Hahaha, supposedly better. I have replaced the auger myself two times and the complete ice bucket one time. I too was getting bits of plastic in my cup every time I used the ice dispenser. The auger breaks because the water that is suppose to say in the ice making area runs over into the ice bucket and then freezes and the auger has to break through the large piece ice formed in the bottom of the bucket and, therefore, since it is plastic, breaks.
Now, to top all of that off, my three-year old refrigerator, which replaced the one that was recalled, is going to cost me another $282.22 to place the heater in it. The heater quit working and the back of the freezer and the elements and tubing going to the ice maker are all frozen and the fridge side quit cooling. This is the worst product I have ever purchased. I have spent over $600 on this new and improved fridge. I will never and I mean never purchase another GE product.

Our GE refrigerator is only 5 years old. When it was just over 2 years old and just out of warranty, the ice maker broke down. We had to pay a repairman over 200 dollars to have it repaired. Now the ice maker is not working right again. It makes almost no ice. Often we have no ice. We have no ice or very little ice for our drinks. We paid a lot of money for this refrigerator (about 1000 dollars) and will probably have to replace it at only 5 years of age.

I purchased a GE refrigerator in May of 09, model GSS22lFRE WW, serial #DH207885. First, the defroster motor burned out twice, the fan motor burned out twice and now the water and ice dispenser does not work. Each time, I have had to pay the service charge and the cost of the part. I purchased it at a small appliance store in Amory, MS. I am a food service worker and I cannot afford to buy another refrigerator, but it looks like I may have to. This one could go out completely any minute.

We purchased our home about 7.5 years ago. We purchased a full kitchen appliance package, all GE. I have always been a GE customer. After a while, we noticed the doors on the side-by-side freezing up. My husband thawed this frost-free freezer and we kind of forgot about it. It continued to do it and we were at a neighbors who told us she had the same problem and that there was a recall on this refrigerator. I went online, found out the info and called GE. They said I had called "just in time" for this so-called recall. They sent out a tech, who proceeded to tell me "yes, the doors were freezing up", but he wanted to "try something" before he replace them as they had to be ordered. I reminded him that the recall would be ending. His answer, "well, I am here so it's okay".
He put some part in the back of the ice maker. We thought it would be fixed, think again. My husband continued to have to thaw this freezer every two weeks. Finally, he said "you better call them again". The same tech came out and said "too bad, the recall is over". I was furious as was my husband. This tech stood in my kitchen for an hour pretending to be getting info from his superior, until I finally said enough is enough. He did nothing and was quite rude about it. At first, lying he had not been to my home before, but then admitting he had. I was never offered the papers that now I was told by Kelli at corporate I should have been. Now the ice maker is spitting out plastic parts as well. My husband, thank God, found it before he choke on it. I have found them in my glass of ice as well.
I called GE today as we cannot afford a new refrigerator. Their answer, "sorry, you didn't fill out the papers" which conveniently were never sent or offered and "we would be willing to give you a prorated $400. Discount on a new model if you get it from us, we will even wave shipping". Are they for real? Why would I buy another GE product after this and I cannot afford another refrigerator. Things are tight. GE was deceptive when the problem first started. The GE tech was rude and didn't do his job and in the end, we ended up with nothing but heartache and frustration. I will never buy another GE appliance. We have to thaw out the freezer every two weeks. We have lost untold amount of food. The entire freezer gets covered with ice on the inside and food thaws. Ice maker parts in ice and husband and I both could have choke on them.
When people visit, we are afraid if they use the ice that they could choke on a piece of the ice maker. I have been a GE customer all my life. My parents and I will never be again. As soon as I can afford to replace all the GE products I have in this house, I will be happy. GE doesn't care about their customers.

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator with a both freezer in October of 2007. A few days ago, I noticed that the temperature in the freezer and the fridge was gradually going up. I though maybe I had left a door open, but the next day after I had checked to be sure the doors were closed, the temp was still going up. A tech came out April 16th to "repair" it. He repaired the ASM board and said it would be cooled down by the afternoon (this was at 8:30 am).
By 3 pm, the fridge's temp had not budged. I called GE and tried to get them to send someone out that day but they said they couldn't. They then told me I had to wait for 24 hours for the temp to go back down to where it needed to be. I asked for the number to corporate to lodge a complaint but the number they gave me would never let me get to a live person.
Over 24 hours later, the temperatures of the fridge and freezer had not changed. I called GE again and told them that someone needed to come out and fix it. They don't send techs out on weekends apparently and said no one could see it until Monday between 8-5. I explained to them that I am working at a new employer and taking time off is not an option. Waiting until my day off on Friday is not an option either. They were apologetic to a point but firm in not sending anyone out.
I refused to believe that a company as large as GE doesn't have someone that they can call to deal with emergency cases but considering they are also incapable of manufacturing a quality product that doesn't break down within 2-3 years of it being purchased, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I would never recommend any products made by this company to anyone. They are a sham and a joke. I am very displeased with the product I received and the lack of adequate customer service. I paid over $1700 for this fridge and $287 for parts and labor that didn't even repair it. I lost $75 worth of food and will have to spend at least that much to buy ice to keep my food in a cooler for the next week.

I have a bottom-freezer GE Profile refrigerator that I bought new in September 2004 for about $2,000 CDN, from a local store that has since gone out of business. I declined to purchase the extended 5-year warranty, which turned out to be a good thing. Shortly after the warranty would have expired, the evaporator fan began to freeze up and stop blowing, in Jan. 2010. (The compressor is fine, and food in the bottom-mount freezer remains frozen, but the upper fridge part warms up because the cold air is no longer being blown into it.) I have had the fan repaired twice, it just died for the 3rd time (early April 2010).
The independent repairman who came out was kind enough not to charge me for the 2nd visit, but told me the problem is not that, it wasn't repaired properly the 1st time, but that it is a GE design problem. That he has contacted GE about it, even with a suggestions for a permanent fix, but been told that GE is not interested in hearing his solution because it will negate their EnergyStar rating.
That solution is to place a small silicone heat bud in the channel where the water from the self-defrosting tubes runs. The evaporator fan works both to evaporate this water (so the fridge never needs defrosting) and also to circulate the cold air from the compressor. Because the water and the fan are so close to the compressor, the water is in danger of freezing (and causing all kinds of other problems) if the fan ever stops. So far, the only word I have from GE is that the warranty on the fan ran out in Sept. 2005 and there is nothing they can do for me and since the store where I purchased the fridge is no longer in business, I am S.O.L.
In the meantime, I am waiting word on whether or not the repairman can find a small enough silicone heat bud for my fridge, the ones he usually carries are made for much larger commercial (retail) fridges and will not fit in the channel in my fridge. Also, because he has had to remove the plastic compressor cover (located inside the fridge, below the produce drawers) so many times, it is in danger of cracking and breaking, and it is over $200 just to replace that cover! In the last 3 months, I have thrown out so much food that I now have a small bar-sized fridge that I use for back-up, which has worked so me so far; but the kids will all be home from university for the summer at the end of the month and the bar fridge barely holds enough food for one meal for them, let alone a week's worth of food! I am beyond frustrated, but one thing is for certain: I will never, never buy another GE appliance!

Purchased GE Profile # PDS22SCRARSS for new home 11/05. Within 2 days, circuit board fried, no freezer or fridge and on Thanksgiving. Customer support ,in some foreign country, who spoke poor English and did not know what Thanksgiving was! Tech out within a few days, replaces board. Bottom freezer temp rises to the 20's and drops below 0. Tech returns and tells us we are not shutting the door down. Melts ice with my hairdryer. Temp in fridge also fluctuates as high as 57 degrees. This has continued to be a random event for both compartments.
GE says nothing was wrong. We have bought a backup fridge for downstairs. Our neighbor had the same model, same problems. My Dad worked for GE for 45 years and I have purchased nothing but their products. I will never buy another. This fridge has been a nightmare. Will upgrade to LG when it crashes for good! Hundreds of dollars of lost food, maybe thousands in past 5 years! Many wasted, frustrated hours talking to idiots who tell me there is no problem and send other idiots out to check my fridge.

As a former full time technician, and now part time, I can tell you that generally, GE products are very good. This refrigerator, however, has some serious problems. Maytag had similar trouble about 20 years ago when they brought out a new line of refrigerators. It had so many bugs in it, and took a while for them to catch up with the proper fixes for it. Most of the problems come from "new" technology and computer-driven appliances. With this model, replacing the ASM main control board seems to fix all.
The refrigerator temperature control is sometimes compromised by a frozen dampener control. Don't trust any thermometer unless it is digital. If you have not purchased it yet or want a new appliance in the future, I would recommend simple controls and less gadgets on it. Simple is reliable and cheap to fix when it breaks. GE is a good product, but unfortunately this particular model line has problems.

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator, model #PFSS5NJWASS, less than 2 years ago. I had a service contract from the Home Depot. The fridge has problems and more parts breaking and falling off than any other product I've ever purchased. It's cheap plastic rather than the high end product that I assumed, I was purchasing. I cannot believe the lack of quality in this high product. The service contract company, Federal Warranty Service Corp., who is a Home Depot contractor has had multiple errors and problems with scheduling repair and claims.
There is total miscommunication with the contract company which, at one point, resulted in terminating my contract due to miscommunication. This has been a month of problems and issues with product and service. I have lost several days of work waiting for GE service, that was scheduled to arrive, but the tech never showed. The service company; too many issues for me to ever deal with them again and I doubt that I'll ever purchase another GE product.
The Home Depot, once contacted, helped resolve the contract issue and some money via Home Depot gift cards was given to me but not the full amount paid for the refrigerator. I have lost food as a result of all these problems.

We spent $6,000 on a new GE Profile refrigerator in 2006. The auto-door close never worked properly. GE finally put a new door on (first of March 2010) and it is too long, both at the top and bottom, by about 1/8th of an inch. We called GE and Mrs. R. (supervisor) called back and said GE would replace the refrigerator, at no cost, with a similar model. It would be available at March 12th and they would call to set up installation.
I called today as I haven't heard anything and I was told we had to pay 40% of the new one, at $2500! I told them that was not what I was told and she (can't remember her name but is a different supervisor) said, "We are not going to give you a free refrigerator. You agreed to pay the 40%." This was never mentioned in the call with Mrs. R. and we would not ever again pay for anything made by GE. I asked to speak with the supervisor’s boss and was informed the boss does not take phone calls.
Why would I pay for another refrigerator? They lied to us about what they would do to resolve the defective refrigerator we purchased. Do not buy GE! I am just stunned that they lied to us. I do remember Mrs. R. asking if this was what we wanted, a replacement refrigerator at no cost and I said that was fine. She even stayed on the phone with me while I checked the new refrigerator on their website to make sure it would fit. Now, we must pay the $2,500 or keep the defective one. Can we do anything to them about this? I am really incensed that they flat out lied to us. I will never again buy a GE product.

In March 2010 my GE Adora side-by-side refrigerator freezer section temperature began to slowly rise up to an unacceptable 11 degrees. For fear of losing the freezer contents, I contacted Home Depot where this unit was purchased, who directed me to the GE Warranty Center. The Center relayed my extended warranty had expired at the end of September 2009, but they could send a repair company out, but not until the next afternoon. This not being an acceptable answer, I contacted a local service provider certified for GE appliances who, fortunately, was able to come within a couple of hours. (I do admit to not renewing the extended warranty as my previous refrigerator (different name brand) had absolutely no problems for over 20 years and was only replaced to update my kitchen decor.)
After the repair representative reviewed the system, he informed me that the main board would need to be replaced to the tune of $400.00, more than 25% of my original unit purchase price. He said that he carries a couple of boards with him all the time since normally this is the issue when the unit's temperature is not staying consistent.
This is appalling! I purchased GE appliances with the understanding they were sturdy and reputable, per the store's salesperson. I never in my wildest dreams expected in less than 4 years to have to invest in such a repair after such a short amount of time in use. But now I see I may be on the luckier side after reading reports of others' consistent issues. I am extremely concerned for what the future will bring and am highly upset at this unacceptable situation, it’s surely known by the manufacturer. We bought a GE Profile side by side stainless steel fridge with ice maker during kitchen re-model in 2006. Within the first year, ice formed at the back of the lower storage compartment where cold air comes out. I contacted GE and they sent out a technician installing a patch kit. But that did not fix the problem. Every 2 months we’ll have to defrost the fridge manually (by unplugging it) to get rid of the ice accumulation. Otherwise, the fridge is not keeping cold.
Then at 2009, the ice from the ice-maker bucket started to melt. The freezer upper portion temperature did not stay low enough. My husband managed to get a repair manual and did a self diagnostic. It pointed the problem being the circuit board. We bought a circuit board from eBay and installed it ourselves. It costs a little over $100. It saves us money because we did not buy the extended warranty. I do not know what is going to go next. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Never buy GE again.

Two weeks later, they replaced the thermister and then (six months later) they said it was a problem with this refrigerator and you must pull the freezer drawer all the way out with both hands on the middle and push it closed the same way every time you open it. We were actually charged $185.93 for the service man to tell us how to hold the door handle with both hands. What a crock!
This is the worst refrigerator we have ever owned and we are disgusted with the utter disregard for customer service by GE. Their service number is 1 800 GE Cares, talk about an oxymoron. If GE acknowledges this problem, they should take responsibility and not pass it onto the consumer. The economic damage is the service fees so far, I have spent more than $500 and the loss of food several times in the past months. Today, both the freezer and refrigerator were not cooling, so the loss was substantial.

I have Refrigerator PFS22MBSWW, Serial #SAZHO56875. I'm writing to you in regard to the above-mentioned refrigerator which I purchased on February 16, 2006. Since Day 1, I have had nothing but problems with this fridge. So far, two doors, the temperature control and one shelf on door have been replaced. As well, the track to the vegetable/fruit bin is broken and today the clip on the left door facing the fridge has broken off once again to which the door has to be replaced for the third time. We do not force the door nor ever do anything to cause any damages - it just simply happens because of its lack of quality that we had to discover after its purchase.
I have appliances in my home for over forty years that have never been broken as my freezer as well as other appliances that have been operating for over twenty years. This is the first time that I have experienced anything like this. We are only two people living in our home and this fridge has been a disaster from the first day it arrived in my kitchen.
I need action on this immediately. Four years into purchasing an item of almost two thousand dollars that seems to continuously break down is absurd. Several salespersons at competitive stores and the service technician himself acknowledged that there is a manufacturing defect with this fridge. So, what can you do about it? Will I have to replace this whole unit this year to purchase something for another cost of $2,000? I certainly hope not. I have always relied on GE products, but this time GE has failed terribly.
There have been many recalls on consumer products. I'm wondering if this fridge needs to be recalled, I mean replaced! What an expensive price to pay for a sub-standard product, let alone the time wasted and aggravation caused to get service. I hope a reply regarding this matter will be received in the very near future. The letter was sent February 21, 2010 to Mabe Inc., in New Brunswick, an e-mail to Burlington, Ontario and a copy where it was purchased. To date, a reply has not been received.

Upon delivery of my GE profile refrigerator (bottom freezer model), I noted that there was a hard plastic connector, which allowed the handle to meet the doors of the refrigerator (a space filler). I noticed this small insignificant part, because it looked so cheap, and didn't seem appropriate for the refrigerator. We had some larger issues with our refrigerator, and they were taken care of promptly, and adequately. Within months of using our refrigerator, the plastic pieces I spoke of, cracked. I felt the larger issues were addressed, and I would learn to live with the cracks.
Within 5 years now of owning my refrigerator, all the connections are cracked, and one to the point, it crumbled, and there is space between my handle and freezer door. On investigation, we realized the cheap plastic piece was only held to the handle by two screws. I called the parts department, to order new ones, thinking they must be quite reasonable, so I would order several to repair all the cracked ones and have back up.
This was not possible. They do not sell that small plastic piece, which is easily replaced by removing the two screws. I had to buy a new handle at a cost of $160. After many phone calls, I was told they would only charge me $60. Feeling like I was being held hostage to this situation (my fridge looked bad, and I didn't want any damage to my door), I purchased the handle. Beside the cost, it absolutely bothered me that I was throwing away a perfectly good handle, to replace a small plastic piece. The pieces were cracked on my top door as well, and I knew it was just a matter of time before another handle hit the landfill.
I reached out to superiors in the Consumer Affairs department and after many emails and phone calls, I was told they don't sell that part, and statistically they have had few complaints, end of story (for him). Well, the new handle I just replaced weeks ago is now cracked, and in pieces. We are an adult family of three. We all worked/and or go to school, and eat out far too often. This refrigerator is not getting extreme use. I am furious! It is not just the cost and inconvenience for me, it is also the fact that these large metal handles must be disposed of, because of a small inferior part that is easily manufactured, and replaced. I will never purchase another GE product again and GE has not heard the last of me.

My GE side by side refrigerator has not worked right from day one. The ice maker does not shut off and the ice piles up and then cracks the shelf above it and you cannot remove the ice bucket without trying to defrost it. I had them come in and repair and at that time, I was told to take out a GE extended warranty and not from the store where I purchased it. As soon as the technician left, the same problem occurred and we could not stop the ice unless shutting it manually. I waited for contract to go into effect then the technician came and again tried to fix it along with other parts that were broken. Everything is plastic and doesn't take much to crack.
At this point, I am totally disgusted to think that GE was reputable. I made ice and then had to write a note to myself to manually shut it off or would have to defrost to get the bucket out. Also, they would not replace cracked shelf due to icing problem. Now, the refrigerator is only three years old and it totally shuts down both refrigerator and freezer and had to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of food.
I called the next day to tell them that this is ridiculous and asked what is the point of service contract and they told me that they would make me priority. It turned out that heating element went after three years. They also told me that there was something wrong on the design of my model of the ice maker and they will never get it to work. I found out also that GE no longer does the service contract but they outsource it and could care less that all my parts are broken and the ice maker can't be fixed. What a joke that I bought this refrigerator because it was GE and I thought they stood behind their products. I will never buy another GE product again. This has been a nightmare and I didn't even need a new refrigerator but doing stainless steel for my other appliances and I wanted it to match.
I had to buy bags of ice and coolers to keep whatever I was able to salvage. I lost about $250.00 worth of food and had to live out of coolers for one week. They will reimburse me for $100 which doesn't come close to the food and ice I spent as well as the aggravation and having to wait for one week. The best was I had an appointment for a day later and realized that I could do the initial date and cancelled the second date. Well, I got the technician two days in a row, no wonder I had to wait a week. They are totally incompetent.

I called to ask how procedure to getting broken GE refrigerator repaired. I had purchased extended warranty. I was told I'd never purchased it, so I asked if their records could be wrong since I'd paid for it. I was told I "was dreaming", that I "must wish I did but never did." Then they hung up the phone. I called back later to see if they would check again, but first I said, "How are you?" and he started screaming at me, "You could care less how I am. You don't know me and don't give a damn how I am and don't ever ask how I am again!"
I said okay and then asked if they could check again since I had purchased extended warranty (4 year). They told me they couldn't be bothered and hung up the phone. My 86 year old father who lives near the store went over to talk to them after I told him what happened. They told him to get out of the store or they'd throw him across the room! I called back and they laughed and hung up the phone.

He said that the control panel on the back was installed in New Mexico. That it was bad and the panel costs $400 to replace. The one in the door would cost $200 to replace. He said that both panels would need to be replaced. This is a bad note to know that a refrigerator you paid $1100 for would quit when your warranty just went out. General Electric sucks! I purchased a GE Profile, french door, freezer on the bottom refrigerator in August of 2007. Since that time, the ice maker has been replaced. The computer has been replaced twice and a relay switch has been replaced. The first two repairs were under warranty. The second two were not, although after a lot of tenacious complaining, the service fees were waived.
I asked, when calling to report the cooling failure, if there had been any problems with the workings of my refrigerator. I was told no. That was clearly a lie. Why should I not be allowed to know that there were computer problems with an appliance that I spent $2000 on? Today, I had the computer replaced for the second time. I have learned that GE has had a lot of problems with the computer board, although, they will not admit it to you if asked. I was told that there would be no charge for the repair. That clued me into investigating the problem. It is true. There have been many computer problem and the computer board installed today is the third design since I purchased the refrigerator.

When I told him it was still broken, he insisted I was wrong and the machine just didn't have enough ice. After calling again to let them know it was still broken and I wanted to be refunded the $200 I was charged, I was told it would be refunded right away. After a week, I called back when it had not been refunded and was told it could take up to 2 weeks. After 2 weeks when I called back, I was told 2-4 weeks.
After 4 weeks, I was told 4-6 weeks, and have just recently been told 6-8 weeks. Obviously, they are going to continue to keep my money for as long as they like. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told he would contact the department who issues the refunds (he told me he could contact them but I wasn't allowed their information) and would return my call in 24 hours. 1 week later, I have had no return call and still have no refund. Please help this "dissatisfied customer." I purchased a brand new GE Freezer from Bray and Scarf on July 2006 (ZIFS36NMLH model). We bought a 4 year warranty, within those years we have had over 5 service calls. I have been very disappointed from that point. Over the last few years, the bottom of the freezer just keeps leaking water onto the base. By this happening, the bins in the freezer are being frozen shut! The service tech and myself has to take something and hit the ice on the bins to get the bins out or poor hot water to defrost the bottom, so you can get the bins out!
One time the service tech had me to boil water, so he can loosen up the ice in the hose. The service people have been taking the entire freezer apart to see what the problem is, but they all keep saying the same thing! That is, "I don't know what's wrong with it! So now my $3000.00 freezer has scratches and little dents in the bottom!
I think a product as expensive as a freezer needs to perform longer than 3 years, and I think your company should seriously review the quality of the work performed by (I assume) your sub-contractors. I'm totally disgusted with General Electric appliance company. I am having a horrible experience trying to get them to repair it correctly or even replace it. I want General Electric Appliances to repair it right or replace this freezer as soon as possible! Maybe whoever is training the service people should come out and use my model for an example in class! So much food lost.

We purchased a GE Profile Refrigerator on 7/15/06 for $1,537.00 plus an additional $164.25 for two additional door shelves. On 5/29/07, we had to call for service because the ice maker fell off the wall. (We turn it on to fill the ice tray, then promptly turn it off so that it doesn't produce too much ice) Fortunately, this repair was covered under the 1 year warranty. Then, on 12/7/09 we had to call for repair as the temperature in both the refrigerator and freezer kept fluctuating and we had to throw away some food, as we weren't sure it was safe. This service call cost us $318.00 to replace the electronic control module in the back of the refrigerator.
Then, two months later, 2/16/10 we had to call for service again as the door keep beeping. The latch was broken, as well as the glide on the shelf that holds the crisper drawers. (These parts are made of 1/16 inch plastic). Our cost to replace these two pieces was $397.50. We were told that the "replacement parts" have a 5-year warranty. Why didn't the original parts have the same warranty? My husband and I are both retired and we have no children living at home, so the refrigerator is well cared for. We feel it was very poorly constructed and we would not recommend anyone to purchase a GE refrigerator.

On Oct. 5th, 2009 we discovered our GE Monogram fridge had been "sweating" into the wall, cabinets and floor that surround this built in appliance. GE sent an adjuster to my home and has agreed to accept liability for the damage this high end defective GE product caused. Electric Insurance determined the repairs would cost $9800 but the contractor bill total was $21,000. The sweating fridge caused black mold to grow on the surfaces surrounding this built in fridge and was not discovered by us until the floor tiles began coming loose in front of this fridge. GE admitted they are aware of a problem with this model ZIC36NANLH.
I believe that GE has an obligation to warn consumers of a known problem with their product. I have sent letters and made many phone calls to GE to resolve this problem. Saandi P. of Electric Insurance is handling the claim. I sent her the repair bills and she says she is looking into it but never calls me back. I sent her the repair bills on 12/27 and have not received a reply. I am asking for help to force GE to do the right thing. I believe GE should do a recall of this known model GE Monogram $6,000 high end refrigerator. Other consumers have this same problem going on and need to be warned. Black mold has made my family sick. I want to prevent others from going through what I did because of this faulty refrigerator. Please help me.
As a result of the fridge "sweating", as GE repair calls it, black mold grew in the drywall behind it, the built in panel and cabinets surrounding it, the tile floor underneath it and two layers of subfloor below that. By the time the damaged materials were removed I was looking down into the crawlspace. The toxic black mold has made my family sick. Nose bleeds, hair loss, and memory loss are some of the ways this hazardous mess has harmed us. The repair bills to remodel the kitchen total $21,000. We believe GE is responsible for our loss.

Then a year and half later, I went back to Lowe's and was told it was out of warranty. So off and on I kept defrosting it and getting repairmen to check it. Three said they could not find the problem. Well, I accidentally went to a GE site that our local TV station recommended to go to for a federal rebate. It was here that I contacted GE about my problem with this refrigerator.
They admitted to me that this one was on recall because the doors were defective, but the recall had already expired. The problem is I was never notified of a recall, never heard anything about it. Lowe's was not honest with me about it either. GE offered me a $400 credit on one, but I would have to pay almost $800 more plus shipping from Danville, Va. I have been without a refrigerator for 1.5 weeks. I have a bad motherboard. Apparently, the unit leaked out all the freon and most likely burned out the compressor. I purchased a GE Profile Stainless Steel counter-depth refrigerator in October 2006 through Grants Appliance. In August of 2009, I noticed that it is not cooling properly and condensation is forming on the inside of the refrigerator. The temperature in the fridge is supposed to be 37 degrees. It was reading 41 to 45. The temperature on the freezer side would get up to 10 degrees. GE sent someone out on 8/25/09 to inspect. They ordered a new motherboard. On 9/2, they came back out and replaced the motherboard. The problem never got better. On 10/23, they came out and ordered a fan. On 11/4, they came out, replaced the fan, and ordered another part. They told me that my fridge maybe was too close to the wall and if I pulled it out, the temperature goes down and the problem becomes the circulation. I pulled the fridge out but no change. First thing in the morning, the temperature in the fridge was 45 degrees. In the freezer, it was 8 degrees and there was still condensation.
On 11/10, GE had me call Assurant Warranty customer relations. They set up a non-GE service for my fridge. On 11/13, Fred Appliance came out to look at it and I ordered a touchpad and mainboard. On 11/30, Fred Appliance installed these 2 parts. I left the fridge alone for 24 hours per instruction and I looked at it. On the next day, there were 44 degrees in the fridge and 10 in the freezer. I called consumer relations again and I told them that the problem was still not fixed. They called Fred Appliance on 12/3. Fred Appliance ordered another main board. On 12/14, Fred replaced the main board. On 12/16, the fridge is still not working with 42 degrees in fridge and 6 degrees in freezer. There is still condensation in the fridge. The food has molds.
On 12/17, the consumer relations called Fred Appliance and they told them that fridge is still not working. On 12/18, Fred tells GE that I need a new fridge because they can't fix. On 12/28, GE warranty service says it takes 3 to 5 business days to process the claim. I called on 1/4 and Assurant told me that Factory Service needs to tell them that I need a new fridge. I waited 20 minutes for the guy to put me through to his supervisor, got frustrated, hung up and dialed again. After 17 minutes of waiting, I told my story to yet another person who put me on hold as she reviews my case. I am losing my patience. I have been on hold again for like 10 minutes. I am typing this as I wait. I probably paid $2500 or so for this fridge in 2006. I want one that works.
On 1-11-10, I recently called Grants Appliance to find out how much the exact same fridge would cost today if I purchased it. They told me $3384.00. Assurant told me that they found me a replacement fridge that is the same as mine, which they can order it for me and have it delivered to my doorstep. Who is supposed to inspect and install this new hunk of junk? Who is going to haul away my existing refrigerator? Or they can give me a check for $1998.00. That's not even half the cost of a new refrigerator! Plus, I want to purchase an extended warranty with a new high tech fridge. How am I supposed to do that if one just gets dropped on my doorstep? I am beyond frustrated but still no resolution!

We purchased a GE Refrigerator Side by side model number gss22sgress from Sears. The purchase date was 10/26/2004. We have had to take a protection agreement out on this product after the 1st year for the past 5 years. We have had Sears out 2-4 times a year every year for the same problem, the ice maker and water hose. We are very disappointed in the product that we have had to spend additional $767.90 in extended warranty coverage. Sears repair people tell us that this particular GE model breaks down very frequently to which we agree! It is broken again and we have decided not to take any more protection out on the fridge. We could have bought another one for the cost we have already shelled out. I would like to know if there is anything that can be done. I'm a very unhappy Sears/GE customer.

As like many others I purchased a GE Profile side by side refrigerator in July 2004 at Lowes for $1,974.00. What a waste of money! Between Lowes setting the refrigerator in the house and leaving not hooking anything up nor taking any of the packaging off and the overall operation or should say in operation this has been a bad experience. To make things worse neither Lowes nor GE want to do anything to correct the problems and defective product. It constantly freezes anything in any of the drawers. In the summer the refrigerator part barely keeps anything cold and when you try to adjust the temp it takes about three days to get it to move and when it does everything is frozen.
The drawers broke in a variety of ways, all making them unusable, and after spending an additional $280 for new drawers they did the same thing and the ones that came with the unit so I now have two sets of broken drawers and well over $2,200 invested in a piece of junk. The ice maker is a joke along with the doors and controls. Something needs to be done as GE doesn't admit to anything but keep selling this junk and taking advantage of the consumers. As to doing anything forget it they don't want to know who you are once they close the sale.

We have a new GE built-in refrigerator. It's barely more than a year old. Last week, rather suddenly, the refrigerator started getting warmer, while the freezer compartment got colder. The refrigerator ended up hovering around 52 degrees, while the freezer is around -30. (Our ice has ice on it, if you get the idea.) We called GE customer service, and first, we're disappointed to find they work 9-5 Mon-Friday.
Secondly, the best they can do is give you a half-day window when a repair person might show up. Because of work schedules, it took us days to get something on the calendar. When the tech guy finally showed up, he spent an hour fiddling around, eventually replacing a "temperature sensor" and telling me it should normalize within 12-24 hours. It didn't; nothing changed at all, except for the refrigerator getting a few degrees warmer.
What makes this more frustrating was the subsequent calls back to GE customer service. The rep seemed pretty nonchalant about the $150 in food that was spoiled and all of the inconvenience this has caused, and she had an attitude like it's our problem that we'd need to re-arrange work again for another appointment. She did finally say she'd try to get an "emergency rep" out on Friday. My wife explicitly instructed them to call her cell. No one ever called.
When you spend $5K on a refrigerator and purchase the extra warranty, you expect more. First, you expect the product to work, not break down after a year. Second, you expect GE to treat you like a customer who has spent $5,000 on a product. That includes working weekends if necessary, so a family can store its fresh food. And on that point, they should be writing us a check for our groceries.
It's a miserable experience. Don't buy GE. They deserve to--and no doubt eventually will--go the way of the America car company.

Before I start, I want to let everyone know that I thought I had done my research, but apparently not well enough. My husband and I purchased a brand new GE side-by-side refrigerator in July, 2007. I checked reviews for the product online, and looked for just the right model. Then, we went to Home Depot, and purchased the side-by-side model with clean steel and ice maker. We purposely bought an Energy Star model to reduce our electric bill. We did not buy the extended warranty, because who needs that for a refrigerator, that should last at least 10 years for a cheap model. My parents bought a refrigerator, which lasted for almost 20 years, when I was a kid, and my grandmother had the same refrigerator for over 40. I registered the model with GE right away.
Immediately, I began receiving almost daily emails from GE, urging me to purchase the extended warranty. We considered it, because it only has a one year warranty, but as I mentioned before, it seemed like a waste of money. About 6 months ago I discovered why they push the warranty so hard. My 2 year old refrigerator began making a horrible alien sound. The sound has now progressed to include an interment grinding noise. Apparently, GE makes the refrigerators to last only as long as the warranty, because we believe the compressor is going out! Yes, you read that correctly! A two year old refrigerator is on its last leg. The best part is that our brand new GE dishwasher, which is less than 2 years old, decided to die right before Thanksgiving! I will never purchase another GE appliance again.
I don't know how we are going to afford to purchase brand new appliances again. We saved to buy the ones we have now for a year! I guess GE is making a killing on their appliances, because they must have a very high profit margin with the shoddy craftsmanship, and added bonus of extended warranty sales. All I have to say is stay away from GE Appliances. I am out almost $1,200 for the refrigerator, and about $600 for the dishwasher. I'm now hand washing all of my dishes, which is not only a pain, but it is killing my efforts to reduce water and a electric usage. This was the reason for purchasing this particular dishwasher. I don't know what we will do, when the refrigerator goes out, since we are unable to afford another one.

My mother is 87 yrs old & we went together to purchase a refrigerator from this company. I have been buying both new & used appliances from them since 1986. In fact, when I built my home in 1998, I used them for all my appliances because they were so great to deal with and stood up for their product. Having "Charlie's Warranty" on a used appliance was like gold. They came out the day you called or the next and were always friendly. The service was always excellent & we never hesitated to sing their praises to friends & strangers. Because of mom's fixed income, we went to look at a used fridge. I'd gotten a used one there last year to replace the used one I had bought from them in 1997. So we are good customers.
Normally, we deal with Joe who has been there for 20+ years but he was gone for the day. Wazir ** said that he would help us just as well as Joe. Again, we had dealt here before so we trusted that the service would be just as good. We went in the back room where the used & scratch/dent stuff are kept. They had several large and 3 small used fridges. She stated to Wazir that she did not like the prices on the scratch & dent stuff because they were too high and the other used ones were too big. Mom wanted a small one because she is alone in her house and only requires a small fridge. She chose one of the small used ones and was told it was noisy but that within 5 days if she could not live with it, they would take it back & try to find her another. This was said by Wazir ** in front of me and a woman who works in the office there.
Within a few days of having it, Mom called them about the noise because it was louder than what we heard in the showroom and they came out on a repair call. This time, she was alone in her home. Neither I nor my husband was with her. The service man told her that he couldn't fix the noise and they didn't have any more used ones. He then told her that he could sell her a new fridge and apply what she'd already paid. She agreed to get a new one and the man left. She thought she would have to go to the store & pick out what she wanted but a bit later, he came back with another, larger fridge, not in a box and not in any kind of packaging, with a booklet in his hand. There were no stickers or disclaimers or energy ratings stuck to this fridge like there would be with a new one.
When I saw it later that night, I thought it was the old one. It has scratches on the side and on the door. I suspect they gave her one of the scratch & dent models we saw there. Mom said that he just brought it to the house and when she protested its size, he told her "it would fit" and proceeded to bring it in. When I asked her why she accepted it, she told me she tried to tell the man but he wouldn't listen to her & she felt intimidated by him plus her food was thawing out all over her kitchen. I must agree; I dealt with this guy when I got my fridge and it needed repair. He is very loud & pushy and has the demeanor of someone who is in a hurry to get to the next job & you are wasting his time.
The man doing repairs is sloppy, uncouth, and difficult to talk to. Since he has been there, the service has become shoddy. I needed a part for my fridge & still haven't gotten it. Now my warranty is up and they want me to pay for a visit.
Anyway, shortly after getting the new fridge, Mom discovered that the door squealed when opened & it wasn't sealing properly. Her food was getting ice crystals on it. My mother tried to call and talk to Wazir and he told her she had to call GE, that they were the one to fix that. She called GE Warranty and they told her that on that model, they only warranted the major components and she needed someone to come and level the fridge so the door would seal properly. They advised her that the company she bought it from should do it. She then called back to Castleberry's and Wazir told her that they were not responsible for leveling the fridge, to call GE.
The people from GE took pity on her and sent someone to check it over and tried to level it for her but reminded her that this was a one-time thing. The door still squeaks like a horror movie. While talking to Mom, this Wazir was also laughing at her and treating her like a child. He made snide comments and wouldn't listen to her. This has been going on since October. Mom is old & fragile but not stupid and that's how he is making her feel. These people are now refusing her phone calls and will not try to rectify this situation. To make things worse, we were at Lowe's & saw a similar fridge with better amenities for almost $200 less than what she was charged.

GE Profile fridge does not maintain temperature. Like all of the complaints seen on the web, the GE Profile is designed to fail and cost the owner thousands of dollars in repairs, let alone potential health issues caused by unknown defrosting/refreezing of food caused by the unit's inability to maintain the desired temperature. It is obvious from the postings that GE is well aware of the manufacturing problems but refuses to help the customer. There is obvious need to recall the fridge/parts as a mfr. defect can lead to salmonella poisoning and death of its owners. Failure of GE and the CDC/Consumer Protection Agency only highlights their complacency in this problem, and hints at criminal conduct.

My 4-year old Hotpoint refrigerator had quit dispensing ice, then the water stopped dispensing, the lights quit and finally it had quit cooling or freezing food. I read all the consumer complaints I could read about this issue and decided that it must be the main board in the unit as it was similar to most of all the complaints I had read. I build computers as a hobby so I am no stranger to replacing motherboards. So I borrowed the money to replace the one in my fridge. Everything is now working as it should.
I called consumer affairs at GE and made a complaint about this issue. I spoke with Linda who was nice and professional. However, I was told that since I am not a technician, nor did I call one to come diagnose the issue, that I would not receive a refund for the price of the main board. I explained to Linda that I am fighting for disability at this time and I did not have 75 cents or even $75 for a tech to diagnose the issue and that my wife and I only exist on $340 bi-weekly since I no longer am able to work. In short I was told they would do nothing about this issue and that there is not enough complaints to issue a recall on this product. I beg to differ. If there is over 100 issues with this unit in a 6-month period of time on any product made, there should be a recall issued. As a result, I will no longer buy any product from GE or its sub-brands in future purchases, and I certainly ask the public not to do so either as this is not only an issue of money but an issue of public safety as well.

The very next day, it was still freezing everything, so I had the GE repairman come out and he said a temperature sensor went out so they replaced it at no charge. The very next day, water condensation was all over the wall on one side of the fridge and there was a big pool of water at the bottom of the fridge and it was running out all over my kitchen floor.
I had the GE repairman and their head technical guy come out and after tearing the fridge apart, they could not fix the problem. In fact, they told me the fridge is not repairable. This is due to a manufacturing defect and GE will not honor it and replace it. Instead, they told me they would credit me the $353.34 I paid for repair towards a new fridge. They also told me that it will cost me $904 for a new one. However, there is no comparable model available and the one closest to this kind is in production and is currently being made. The insulation foam inside the door has collapsed and this causes the water dispensing line to freeze (as per the service technician that cost me $84). I am disappointed because of GE not taking the responsibility to fix this defect on the refrigerator and expect the consumers to pay for this replacement closed to $500. I have a concern about a product in my home. It is my GE Monogram refrigerator. About six months ago, the water that was coming out of the filtered water dispenser started to taste bad. I changed the filter, it still tasted bad and then I realized the fridge was leaking. I had someone come out to service it. The water hose got hot from just the heat from the motor and eventually became brittle and cracked in the spot that heated up. Every time I fill a glass of water now, it starts to come out cold and then there's a part of the water that's hot and then it’s cold again and once again the water started tasting bad even though I just changed the filter. If I dump out the first cup, it tastes slightly better.
My concern is about this plastic pipe that delivers this filtered water. If it’s heating up in a spot enough to make the water taste bad isn't it leaching chemicals into my drinking water? I have the original pipe that was replaced before. It is brown and burnt looking in the spot where it broke. I'm extremely concerned about this because this is the water my family is drinking. Please let me know what info you may have about this matter.

We've owned GE Profile refrigerator (model PSS26PSWA SS) for two years and have had a few icemaker issues from the start - ice cube maker tray falling out of alignment causing water to pour into the collection bucket and freezing the cubes together. Well, the most recent icemaker issue is that the dispenser will be slow to push ice out the door, then after a few seconds, seizes up and will not operate, though an electric buzz can be heard. We called out the GE serviceman (at $99 just to show up, mind you) and he looked at it and ordered us a part, a clear plastic cup at the back of the mechanism that had become chewed up. He insisted it was a cinch to install and recommended we replace it ourselves.
Well, the part arrived and I simply could not separate the plastic part holding the auger and blade mechanism, so I took the entire assembly to authorized GE service dealer this morning and they installed the little cup. Great, I came home, placed the tray into the freezer and dispensed 1/2 a glass of ice before hearing the same seizing up and then nothing. Looking inside, I saw that the same little cup that we just replaced had been destroyed again by the icemaker. The plastic shards were deposited into the ice receptacle, mixed with the ice cubes. Great. What now, another service call? Buyer, please consider brands that do not use this type of icemaker as there is likely an inherent flaw with the design. Beware!

I own a side by side model number GSS25KSTE SS. I would say, in general, this is a well made refrigerator (although I was surprised it is made in Mexico). The up side is that all of the refrigerator parts are well made and appear as if they will last a long time. It's a nice looking unit. The down side is that the ice maker (door type) is the biggest piece of junk ever made. It literally takes more than 40 seconds to fill a small glass with ice. And then the ice maker gets stuck all of the time which means you have to open everything up and unjam it somehow. For some odd reason, the engineers at GE designed the ice container in the freezer to tilt away from the door opening which means it takes forever for ice (if there is any ice in the container) to actually get into your glass. I can tell GE now that I will never ever buy another GE product as long as I live. They should be ashamed to put out an ice maker that is so untested. I would love to get my money back on this thing but I know there is no chance for that. Buyer beware.

I have a GE Side by Side Refrigerator model GSS25JFMCWW that I purchased in 1992. The motherboard fails on it every 16 months or so. After a lot of trying, I talked to someone at GE today. They said they'd give me $400 off a new refrigerator, and that I have 30 days to take them up on it. The answer is a flat no. The catch is that you have to purchase it on their www.geappliances.com website. You can buy the same refrigerator for a lot less in stores. So, their offer isn't worth the effort. Plus I'd end up with another GE. Do not, by any means, purchase any GE appliance. They are very unreliable. Further, GE does not stand behind their products.
The same part in my refrigerator failed three times. I also have evidence that during the period, GE knew that the problem was systemic. As an engineer, it seems to me that they easily could have re-engineered the part and come up with a fix. Since the same part for my refrigerator keeps failing, it is obvious that they just like selling parts that are doomed to failure. They deserve to go out of business due to a lack of goodwill amongst their customer base. If you are not a customer of GE yet, I strongly suggest that you do not become one. I will never purchase another GE appliance.

I, too, have the extended warranty. I thought that when the temp control problem started just 18 months after purchase, that it would be repaired. I was wrong. GE has been out five times to fix it and it has not worked. It's pretty clear that the technicians don't know what to do, yet GE refuses to acknowledge this and offer a new fridge. On my last service call, the technician didn't even show up and when I called the service center, I had to leave a message. I've left several and no one has called back. I just scheduled yet another repair through GE and wrote a letter to the head of customer relations.
When I spoke to GE last time, I asked the representative whether they would take their car back to the same garage five times to fix the same problem. She, of course, answered "Yes, I would." This is the level of stupidity we have to endure from a giant company that clearly refuses to fix its mistakes. Don't buy the GE Profile refrigerator or any GE products for that matter. When we purchased our fridge, we bought the extended warranty. Since 30 August 2008, we have had 9 service visits for the same problem. Everything has been replaced from the fan to the motherboard. The vent in the fridge freezes and therefore, the sensor senses that the fridge is too cold. From there, the fridge runs constantly trying to warm the fridge, and thus spoils the entire contents of the fridge. Our contract states that the repairman can deem the appliance unrepairable; we are to be compensated or the fridge replaces. Each repairman ends up arguing with the company and they make him replace a part. We are now replacing things for a second time. I feel they are in breach of the contract, and that we have a lemon of a fridge.
