Our home is 2 yrs old. All of my appliances are 2 yrs old and are all GE products. I have a GE side by side refrigerator with the water filteration system. Back on 10/01/03 my GE Refrigerators freezer was not freezing, everything had unfroze in freezer. The refrigerator was still cold at this time. The following day I contacted GE, they told me they can't send one of there service techs out to my house because I live out of there service area. They told me to get out my yellow pages and find a GE Certified technichan. So I did, 2 days later the tech comes out, diagnosis was compressor was shot.

During this time, I had spoiled more than $250.00 worth of food, and had water leak out from the fridge and caused my Hardwood Floors to warp. It took 10 days before the tech received the compressor and was able to get back over to my house. Keep in mind I have 2 children a 8 yr old son and a 2 yr old daughter. When the tech came to install the compressor he turned on the fridge and said Oh, your compressor is not the problem, it must be something else. I am going to order a couple of different parts for your fridge and give those a shot. Okay, so the tech does not know what is wrong with my fridge. A day goes by, I hear a knocking sound coming from the fridge.

So now, I immediately call the tech. He states, I will come back out to your house in 2 days and take another look! He decides that it might be the control board on the fridge, so he just happens to have a used one, he installs it, turns the fridge and freezer to normal temp. Fridge and freezer are working! Except for 8 hours later my Freezer is not only frozen but my fridge is also frozen. It froze so bad in the fridge it exploded the water filter. We couldn't remove the water filter, so immediately I again called the tech and he said turn the temp down on the fridge. meanwhile while all this was happening, Ge was not helpful at all! And thats when my refrigerator decided to dethaw!!!!

Bought a new house with a GE refrigerator in July 2003. GE service technicians have come 8 times to try and fix my refrigerator. Now, they told me they will not fix it or replace it because it is functioning properly. I have written two letters and contacted GE numerous times. The told me that they've closed my case and that the extremely loud noise is normal. No one else in my neighborhood has had these loud noises keeping them awake at night. I'm completely at a loss and don't know what to do or how to get them to replace my faulty product. Considering Lawsuit.

Missing work 8 times to meet the people at home to service the problem. Being on the phone and holding for considerable amounts of time trying to contact customer service. Writing numerous letters to the company. Staying up at night with the ticking noise, not getting any sleep.

Three years ago we purchased a GE side-by-side refrigerator with a water/ice dispenser/crusher in the door. It came with a one-year warranty. Several weeks ago my daughter almost choked on a 1/2 inch piece of plastic in her glass. We are unsure if she ingested any of the smaller pieces. The fact was that the ice crusher had begun eating the ice bucket I see as: (i) faulty design; (ii)use of improper materials; and (iii) a significant safety issue. A GE repairman came to investigate. He called GE Appliances who informed that, althought the warranty had expired, they would give us a free replacement ice bucket but would not pay for the housecall/labor. I tried to explain to customer service that the issue was safety, not simply parts replacement. They did not feel any further action was necessary. I consider GE's lackadaisical attitude regarding safety to equate to gross negligence. Simply replacing the part does not ensure against future ingestion by unsuspecting consumers.

Purchased GE refrigerator model GSH22KGMAWW on August 12, 2001. On 10/7/2002, a large amount of water was noticed on the kitchen floor (2nd story). Water to refrigerator was turned off. Water damage resulted on hard wood floors and 1st floor ceiling below refrigerator. GE service was contacted on the morning of 10/8/02. We were quoted cost of $49.95 plus any parts and labor with a 1-5 pm show up time.

Took day off from work to wait for service tech. Service tech showed up after 6:00 pm. Performed inspection to try and identify problem. He concluded that the Main Board of the water dispenser malfunctioned causing water to flow out of the dispenser as if the lever was being pushed back. As a result a large volume of water leaked from the dispenser until the water valve and icemaker water valve "froze". Apparently these parts "freezing" stopped the water flow onto our hard wood floors. I can only assume that these valves are designed to "overload" in such circumstances.

The service technician proceeded to present a repair estimate of over $500 in parts and labor for a refrigerator just over 14 months old that cost only $950 new. His repair estimate included individual labor charges for the Main Board and Water Valve (over $275.00) as well as parts charges for the main board, water valve and icemaker water valve (don't know why as the ice maker is working), parts total $213.75. Needless to say, the amount for the repair is outrageous as the Main Board should not burn out or malfunction in such a short period of time. In addition, parts that are designed to overload to protect further damage, should not be subject to the consumer's expense of replacement, as there replacement is due totally to the malfunction of another part of the unit.

To top it all off, after waiting all day for the repair man, we were charged an extra $25 for the repair "estimate". We were never told of this additional charge by either the phone rep nor the service technician upon his arrival. We are in the process of contacting GE to achieve an equitable solution to this problem. We are also now in the process of receiving repair estimates for the water damage caused by GE refrigerator malfunction.

On Sunday Nov. 4th 2001 Jacksonville fire dept. attended a small fire at my boyfriends house caused by an overheated power cord running to a top of the General Electric refrigerator. Minimal damage was caused because I was home at the time and unplugged the frig from the power outlet. The insulation on the frig power cord had melted, exposing bare wire.

The following day, (Monday), the service dept at GE was notified and they proceeded to send out a service person that afternoon. The repairman ran tests on the frig, closely examined the melted wire and concluded that there was nothing wrong with the frig. Even upon my boyfriend Ed's insistance that something had gone wrong with the unit, he was adamant that everything checked out fine, except for the melted insulation on the power cord, which he would order and return the following friday to replace. Ed suggested on at least two occasions that the frig be taken in for further more extensive examination but he stated that it was completely unnecessary.

Thursday the repairman called and said that he had obtained the cord earlier than expected and asked if he could come to install it that day. He arrived shortly thereafter, replaced the cord, ran some tests, then again assured us that the frig was running properly. The refrigerator worked fine for two days, then, on Sat November 10 2001, while out, we were notified on the cell phone by the alarm company that the house was on fire and that they had already notified the fire dept.

After the fire had been extinguished, the attending fire captain decided to call in a specialist to determine the fire's point of origin. His conclusion was that it originated from a short circuit in the door of the frig and spread from there. Ed once again notified GE service, who sent out their own inspector. After some examination and lengthy telephone conversation with his office they accepted responsibility and assigned a case number. Somehow in his wisdom Ed decided to put the claim through his own homeowners insurance. This was the beginning of dealing with what we began calling "the adjustor from hell". But that is a whole other story.

Christmas was spent in the hotel, with the threat from the adjustor that the house better be ready because Encompass insurance would not be paying for any hotel bills after the third week of Dec. New Years was spent worrying about if I would be repaid the money I was lending Ed to pay hotel bills and food. In the end Ed settled the claim with Encompass ins. after having to hire a public adjustor to help him. Unfortunately, he had to pay out of his own pocket over a month's hotel bills, the contractor was cheated out of money due him, along with other subs who were not paid by the insurance company for a number of reasons.

I contacted Mr Bob Lessard at GE's insurance company asking for some reimbursement; his underlings curt reply said basically that Ed's settled the claim I'm out of luck in getting anything unless it comes from Ed. I guess I was going to let the matter go and write it off to another life experience, however in the middle of June I was contacted by Bard and Sandra of Savannah GA. They said that their GE refrigerator had burned up under almost the same circumstances, Unfortunately there whole house went with it.

It makes you wonder how many more defective GE frig's are out there just waiting to catch fire, and perhaps next time kill someone. In light of the huge sums GE pays there executives you would think they could devote a few more dollars to making a safer product, or at least be more fair and compasionate with the people damaged by their faulty products

I purchased a GE refrigerator from a Tops Furniture store in Gorham NH. Because of the way the refrigerator is designed, all of the bottles on the sides of the doors will fall out when you open the door! The gap is WAY too big to hold items that you normally put in the refigerator. VERY stupid and poor design! Last week a large glass bottle of dressing fell out on my foot and left a HUGE bruise and swelling. I could not even get my shoe on!

I am making an appointment to see a foot doctor as I think it may have done some serious damage to my foot!
