I have never had such horrible customer service in my life. My 4-year old refrigerator has a known issue with the control board. I called on this issue after researching the problem online. GE has decided to fix them from 2005 and on, but people do get these fixed outside of their date all the time. It just depends on who you talk to. My first call was to a lady who said I would get a call back on the issue. She said that she would schedule a service time and make sure the part would be covered under a 'field rework program'. I told her that I would like to know what it was going to cost for the service call and labor if it was not the control board. She said that she would call back.
I just received a call last night from an automated service stating that they would be coming out to fix my appliance from 1:00-5:00 today, January 5, 2009, so I decided to take a half day off of work. I just received a call from Jenny, employee # ** stating that the service tech could not make the appointment today and that she had no knowledge of the issue and told me to call back to see if it was going to be covered. Jenny gave me the number to customer care and I spoke with MRS. **, employee #**, who was the most unpleasant supervisor. She stated that she could not do anything for me and that the part was going to be $168 and service call was going to be $79.95, not including labor and to just deal with it. I have never been treated so badly in all my years.
So where I stand is that there are many websites devoted to this problem and so many people get their control board replaced for free. It just depends on who you speak with. I have documented my case and will be sending a letter to the BBB and to the Attorney General’s office on this issue. It's unfortunate that we could not have worked these issues out. Model # pss26lgrb.

This is a Stainless Steel side-by-side GE refrigerator. There is ice and water service in the front of the freezer door. The water constantly freezes up and will not work. I have to use a hair dryer to thaw out the line to use the water dispenser. This refrigerator cost over $1,000.00 and is a piece of junk. I called the GE Complaint Department, and they told me they had never had any other complaints for this problem. They offered to come out just to look at it at my expense.
Through chat sites on the internet, I know for a fact that there are over 100 other people who have the same problem with this refrigerator model, and all say that GE is ignoring the problem. I complained to the store where this was purchased, and they said I needed to contact GE myself. That went nowhere. Is there no protection from dishonest manufacturers that will not stand behind their product, like GE? I have to use the hair dryer every other day for about 10 minutes if I wanted to use the water dispenser. Then it freezes up again.
There's been no physical damage; however, I am out over a thousand dollars for a refrigerator that will not work as designed. It's a piece of junk. I cannot use it and wouldn't sell something that will not work. I guess I have more ethics than GE. Needless to say, I will never buy another GE appliance, and I have already shared my experience with as many others as possible. I was even in a store and saw someone looking at a GE refrigerator. I told them my story and informed them that GE would not stand behind their faulty design and recommended they not purchase one.

GE Profile refrigerator: The icemaker drops plastic. Parts of the rotating blade which pushes the chopped ice forward have broken off and we have found them at the bottom of our glass on various occasions. After talking to a service rep at the GE answer center, I learned that this is an ongoing problem, which GE does not cover. The rep gave me a part number which I ordered but when it arrived, it was a metal auger, not the plastic piece I needed. I now need to return the auger and order the correct piece, thereby spending more time and more money in shipping charges. In addition, we are left to replace the broken part ourselves and the icemaker is not a simple machine to disassemble.

This is what I told the GE service people both on the telephone and contact us on their website voicing a concern about an appliance or an experience with GE? GE Side by Side Mod # PSS26NSTDSS. P/N# WR17X11459: CUP drive from ice dispenser broke and move its way through the ice in to a glass of water. I drank the water and discovered a piece of the cup drive in my mouth and glass. To me this should be flagged as a SAFETY/Choking Hazard and or a safety recall. This defective engineered item (WR17X11459) may some day kill someone. Customer Relations gave me a discount on a replacement part. Told me my complaint was documented. But it's up to the government to issue a recall.

Bought a new GE French Door refrigerator with water and ice in the door. The ice in the icemaker compartment keeps melting and clumping together resulting in the icemaker auger jamming and water dripping down the chute from the melted ice onto the floor. Every few days to a week you have to open the ice maker to remove the big clump of frozen together ice cubes, you will get the problem above.
A technician from GE came out and said it was the control board and ordered one. A week later he came back and installed it. A few weeks later the same problem is back. The same technician came out again today and asked me why I didn't keep the big clump of ice in the icemaker for him to see. I told him it was exactly the same as last time. Apparently he reported in to GE and said he found no problem and left without doing anything. I called the executive office and they were not helpful either. Saying another service call would have to be made and not to throw out the ice and have them see the water dripping onto (and damaging) the hardwood floor.
My feeling is that it is the design of the ice making system and its physical location that is the problem. Not enough cold air from the freezer gets into the ice compartment which happens to be in the refrigerator compartment that is kept warmer than what is required to keep water frozen. In a side by side the ice maker is in the freezer and you won't get that problem.

I purchased condominium unit #405 of Discovery at Cortez in September of 2002. I purchased this unit new with all new high-end? (I was told by Bosa) GE appliances and central forced air-conditioning and heat. I have taken immaculate care of my condominium for both myself and my very exclusive tenants, yet there have been numerous problems in the past six years. These problems have been and continue to be very costly for me. I am requesting that Bosa and/or GE pay for all repairs needed at this time. I am also requesting that the cost of all past repairs be reimbursed as well.
1. In 2006, the motor of my GE dryer needed to be replaced, which cost me approximately $500.00. #WSM2700WCWWW and #ZA600356W
2. In August of 2008, my tenant did not have hot water for over three weeks. I had to reimburse my tenant $200.00 for rent just so she wouldn't move out.
3. In July of 2008, the electronic temperature controls on my GE refrigerator stopped working, so there is no way to set the freezer and refrigerator temperatures properly. The freezer is now running too warmly, so all of my tenants frozen food had to be discarded. I will have to reimburse her of course. #PSC23NGMDWW and #VA409808
4. My GE microwave oven works for now, yet it makes a very loud noise while it is in use. It sounds like it is about to break or blow up. #JVM1850WD001 and #TA966378S or 5
5. Finally, the central forced air-conditioning and control panel in my unit are no longer working.
My condominium is only six years old. It is very clear that I have been sold Lemon? appliances and products with my condominium. Again, I am requesting that Bosa and/or GE pay for all repairs needed at this time. I am also requesting that the cost of all past repairs be reimbursed as well.

Bought a Hot Point (aka GE) side-by-side fridge. The water dispenser in the door keeps freezing up and cannot get any water. Had service man come out - they said it is an insulation problem in the door - could not fix. I have researched online and found many - many - many people with the same problem with your product. Will GE not stand by their product?? The repair person that came out said, "Don't buy GE. Stay with Whirlpool products." The next appliance I buy will be Whirlpool. I have a Whirlpool dishwasher and oven that is about 38 years old and have never had one problem with them. Guess I should have purchased a Whirlpool fridge. Live and learn. Will GE stand behind this product - since there are many- many complaints for the same problem with GE refrigerators? What can GE do? Very unhappy :(

My GE Hotpoint refrigerator stopped dispensing water from the door; the ice dispenser still worked fine. I went to the Home Depot store where I purchased the fridge and was told that the extended warranty I purchased expired in August 2008. So, I called a local repairman who told me that the problem was probably in the freezer door, that the water was freezing in the line (he tested the water at all other available areas and it worked fine) and that I would have to call a GE technician for repair or replacement since they would either have to replace the door or install a heater. I was quite surprised that they already had a part - a heater no less - to solve this, but I called and was visited by two technicians today.
They did not move the refrigerator. They did not do anything to it after I told them that water came out fine from the connector line at the bottom of the refrigerator. I also told them I had talked to a repairman and visited a few consumer blogs and knew that the issue was a design flaw in the unit. While they were very tactful and refused to say anything about the situation, it was evident to me that they have dealt with this before. They already had a HEATER for a freezer door in the truck and they spent about five minutes outside, out of earshot, talking. It does not take five minutes to retrieve a part from a truck.
I was upset because they came in and told me the bill would be around $180 for parts and labor. I told them I would be happy to pay for a service visit but I thought it unfair to charge me for parts and labor to repair a design flaw. They offered me the number for consumer relations, and when I called and spoke to Candace, she waived the price of the part, or about $63. I asked for the labor to be waived as well, since it makes sense if the part to repair the problem is free, the labor to install the part to repair their design flaw should also be free. I told her it was not fair to charge customers for the repair of a design flaw - that is quite dishonest and unethical. She told me that the appliance was out of warranty, and GE was only waiving the cost of the part and had no other responsibility to me.

Just over two years ago, we purchased a GE Profile (Model: PSC25MSTSS). In the past few months we have had several issues:
2. Unit will not cool
Before I continue, the service we have received has been excellent from the service personnel and they are always timely. However, the issues are still not resolved. After nearly five service calls now, we still have a cracked liner and the unit is not cooling. They replaced the electronics and now are going to order another part that will cost nearly $80.00. On top of that, the service repair costs, etc. We are working with consumer relations now on getting a full replacement as their patch for the crack (Silicone) has been a fatal attempt. GE is known for quality, this is not a quality repair for a side-by-side that cost approx. $2,500+.
I'm interested if anyone else is experiencing cracks. By the way, for the second issue, the part is going to take 1 full week to get in...in the meantime we are supposed to use a hair-dryer to remove the ice off the defrost fans. GE = Quality? I'm not convinced and surely hope that GE steps up to their product better than our experience thus far. Hope others chime in so we can learn from their issues as well. Finally, we are more than welcome to do a 60%/40% cost split (GE = 40% of the cost) for a comparable product that I was informed costs nearly 3,000...you do the math on that...I certainly would not go back to GE if they will not fix the manufacturer default cracked lining.

On August 15th, a GE Refrigerator that I had purchased the year before broke down. I contacted GE for service only to be told that the soonest that a repairman could get out to my house was a week. So after making the appointment, we waited for the repairman. When the gentleman showed up, we were told that the part was not covered and it would be over 300 dollars to repair. Needing a refrigerator, we of course told him to order the part and waited patiently for it to arrive a week later. When the part arrived, the repairman returned only to find that they had sent the wrong part. We were told that the right part would be on its way and so we waited another week.
The day before the repairman was to return, we received a call advising us that the part was on back order and now the part would not be available until October 2nd. October 2 came and went and still nothing. I called GE today to find out the status of my service call only to be told that now the part was on back order until November. I asked to speak with the customer service department and told them of my problem. When I was connected, their response was that there was nothing that could be done because my warranty had expired. When I told them I felt they should replace the unit, their only concession was they would pay half for a Comparable replacement. This refrigerator is less than 2 years old and cost in excess of $1500 yet it has lasted less than my previous refrigerator that was still working after 4 years had purchased used for $200.
I currently possess a 400 lb paperweight that use to be my refrigerator. I have been unable to store food or medication within my home due to lack of a refrigerator. This has resulted in my family having to shop and eat day to day, many more trips to the market, eating out more often or not at all due to our inability to store food. This has cost us in excess of $200 to $300 more a month in food costs. This does not even cover the cost of the future repair or replacement of the refrigerator.

We are a contractor. We purchased and installed a new GE Monogram Bar Refrigerator Module in April 08 on an extensive remodel project. Our customer has been living in the home for four months and the refrigerator has not worked since installed. There have been six service calls, four by a certified GE technician. GE Warranty stated that failure to repair the unit after three service calls, the unit could be deemed unserviceable and recommended for replacement. GE is now replacing parts a second time and no one will recommend replacement. Our customer wants the unit removed and is holding our final payment until the issue is resolved. GE Service becomes arrogant and uncooperative when pressed for resolution. The service men however are friendly and cooperative but appear to have no authority to get the unit replaced. We will never spec another GE product in our homes or remodels.

They said they could do no better. Called GE back and asked if they could find another contractor. They have no other contractor for my area. 6 days later, A & E called to say they would not be able to make their appointment. They rescheduled for one week later at the same time 8-noon. Did I actually PAY for this lack of service? I certainly won't again. In my 34 years of marriage, GE was once my appliance company of choice. It will not be in the future. Lost work? Who cares? Lost food? Who cares? Inconvenience? Who Cares? Certainly not GE or A & E Factory Service!

I have a new refrigerator that has not made ice since I got the unit. I have had three service calls to fix this problem and it still is not making ice. I had new parts put in that were cheaper than the original parts I purchased. I had an electric ice maker with lights and switches only to be replaced by a cheep plastic arm. I was told by the warranty department that my part had been superseded by the cheaper part. I called the parts department only to find out that I could purchase the part. I have had multiple managers promise they were going to return my call.
Still I haven't received one. I just want to have my ice maker work and to have the same level of parts put into my machine. It blows my mind that such a large company is able to get away with such service. Not one person has given me the same information. I would like to be a manager for GE. I can give people the wrong information too. I can even tell them I will give them a call back. I don't even have to know how their phone system works because their policy is to lie about return calls anyway.

Our less than one-year-old stainless steel side-by-side, nearly $2000, refrigerator suddenly died. I called for repair and the man came out, didn't even plug in the unit to check the issue. He took the information we gave him and decided to order a new computer board/relay panel. Luckily, this is under full warranty for another 12 days (one year quickly approaching). When I asked how long he would then guarantee the part and work, he told me only until the warranty expires (by the time it is installed), which will be about a week. I called Customer Service and the woman I spoke to there informed me parts and work are covered for 5 years. I wanted something in writing. She sent me to Customer Relations. They told me nothing would be covered after the one year expires in 12 days.
I asked what faith that is suppose to give me about the quality of the part or repair. All she would say is, "I'm sorry, we've fulfilled the terms of the warranty." I informed her I will never buy another GE product again. $2000 for a refrigerator that busts just short of a year, and there is no warranty or guarantee that the new part will last another year. That's crap! On top of this, the repairman couldn't wait long enough to offer to sell me an extended warranty - another four years for $99. What a scam! I'll be contacting the BBB and any other agency necessary if this part goes bad in a short amount of time. Do not buy GE products!! Service sucks.

Less than 4 years old, both our refrigerator GSS25JSRE SS, and dishwasher PDW8280J01SS have always caused, and continue to cause problems for our family. Within a month, the dishwasher door hinge spring broke or came loose, the door only had to drop hard once to spring (tweak would be a better word) the hinges, so the door opens too far. Warranty covered it, but the door continues to open too far, creating an un-level platform for the lower rack to travel on. The rack constantly jumps off track, and now the plastic wheel axles are breaking from climbing over the bump as it rolls into the dishwasher cavity.
The refrigerator compressor whines now, and the water dispenser quit recently. Solenoid makes noise, Interior temp @ water hose coil is 41 degrees(via raytech infra red thermometer). Also the upper crisper tray track on right side always gave us problems, constantly jumping out and binding. This was the only issue that happened during warrany, my fault for not following up, but nothing is broken, just bad dimensions (bowed wall?) Also, Maybe not a GE issue, but the SS panels sure dent easy:-( Another dissatisfied/never again GE appliance owner
Economic damage is early replacement or extensive repairs eminent.

I have purchased (5) new GE products for a remodel I am doing. Two microwaves, one electric range, one refrigerator and one dishwasher. Due to some delays in construction the products sat in their original packaging so they were protected against damage. Installed one mircowave and a few weeks later it stopped working. Repair man came out for free repair due to product being under one year old, I believe the capacitor went. Very unusual I was told.
Dishwasher installed, leaked from door panel, again repair man came, took a while to find leak then asked me if there were any more parts. Answer was no. His answer was that it was missing parts from the inside door panel, that had to happen at factory. New parts ordered and were installed.
Refrigerator taken out of box that showed no damage, once outside the box discovered that the freezer door was dented. Called GE to see what they would do, and now being that (30) days have passed since I purchased the product they are not responsible for any damage. I pointed out my delays and that fact that the item was in their original packaging that showed no damage how was I to know that there would be a dent in the door. My answer from them was that I was to unwrap every item and inspect them for damage or missing items, I told them the repair man (GE) sent had a hard time finding the missing parts but I am suppose to find them.
The stove in not even going to be installed.
I am not happy with GE poducts at this point and my customer's are not happy.Customer is not going to eat the dented door, it will be me as GE says its not their problem and the delivery people are not at fault either for everything arrived in good order (appearence wise). In the seven years that I have owned my GE refrigerator, it has been repaired more than 10 times. Recently, I placed my 3rd call in less than 3 months for the same problem that I've had since I purchased it - the refrigerator portion stopped cooling. On the first 2 calls, technicans (always polite) have changed out parts and indicated that there wasn't anything else the could do. GE's Spoiled Food policy does not even come close to covering the cost of spoiled food.
In trying to escalate the problem on the phone to supervisors, I find that there is no one who can or will help resolve the problem. The cost of spoiled food payments, technician time, etc. has far exceeded the cost it would have been just to replace the unit, which is obviously a lemon.
I get nowhere. Now, I will wait 4 days for a service technician to come yet again, while I have to take time off from work to wait for the technician.
At no time in the future will I ever purchase a GE product. Their customer service policies are disgraceful and, at any opportunity, I will tell my story.
Somewhere along the way, I will save up the money, take my business elsewhere, and purchase another refrigerator.
The waste of time and money is deplorable. The inconvenience caused to me, GE's customer is unbelievable - it's a refrigerator for goodness sake! It has taken up my time, wasted my money and caused incredible aggrevation through the years.
And still, GE fails to step up and properly respond. And that's if you are lucky enough to get out of their automated phone hell to get a live person.

We have replaced three auger motors and paid for numerous repair calls and since June, 2008's latest replacement, we again have a non-working icemaker.Additionally, there is a major softening of all freezer items during the defrosting phase and the ice becomes clumped as well as overproduces( does to cut off at full level). On or about 6:00 am,Tuesday,September 2,2008,I discovered that the light/temp control fixture on the interior top of my model LFC256760TT refrigerator had overheated. It overheated to the extent that it burned the bulb sockets and adjacent enclosure and severely blistered the liner behind the heat shield. The door was closed when I made this discover and the temperature was at set-point.
I am an ISA Certified Instrument Technician for an engineering firm which enables me to pool technical resources. From the pool, a Sr. Electrical Engineer concluded that the fixture is thermally under-rated (at very least) or there is an intermittent wiring defect (at worst). An intermittent wiring defect is sufficient enough to cause severe property damage and/or personal injury. Either way, this is an engirneering safety recall issue.
The service technician that responded to my initial inquiry was excellent. Nonetheless, he indicated their inability to do more than replace the damaged parts on the refrigerator. I am convinced that this overlooks the root cause of this potentially hazardous condition and is nothing but a stop gap measure to get an inherently defective piece of equipment through its warranty period. My wife and I are simply afraid to use this refrigerator because of it's fire hazard.

Everyone has been sick off and on in our house and my son might have exploratory surgery for his stomach. All of these years his stomach problems were probably related to the GE fridge. Our food is melting in the freezer and all of the food is going bad in our refrigerator. I don't know how long the food in our fridge was going bad without knowing it (certain things don't look bad even when they are), but I blamed it on the store I bought it from. Our refigerator is on a recall and class action law suit but we were only offered $300 towards a new refrigerator. That would not cover 1/3 of the cost for a new one.
Our whole family has been sick more often for the last 5 years and my 10 year old is thought to have stomach prolbems that he is having checked by having a camera put down his throat, blood tests, and barium followed by an xray. We have had to throw out about $500-$1000 worht of food in the last few years.

Under Warranty 8/12/08 - Wind Sound VERY BAD. Technician out to fix it again. He said GE had changed suppliers of the Control Panels but it may STILL happen again! The wind sound is a compressor, we're told. Charged $169.55! When they predicted this would happen again and it did! I am livid! They should have Recalled This Model if their techs could adequately predict that this faulty control board would break down again. This was a $2,177.00 appliance, with faults they knew about... Why was it even being offered? Why is it only being rectified with this band aid approach, and WE'RE having to foot the bill! OUTRAGEOUS General Electric! AND Bill Smith Appliances for making this product available!

I own a 3 yr. old GE Profile refrigerator. The lights indicating the temp. went out, and I was looking at a repair bill. After reading many posts, I decided my problem must be the motherboard. I went to town and purchased the part for $114 + tax, installed it, and it's working again. The install was easy. Don't pay to have this done. It's a lot less aggravating than waiting on the repairman and much cheaper.

I purchased a GE Monogram Refrigerator/Freezer, model #ZFSB25DTG SS, and began having problems almost immediately. It kept food 7 degrees warmer than the read-out, with no way to make it colder. The ice maker didn't work. It's incredibly noisy. The freezer compartment expanded and the shelves no longer fit. After 23 phone calls, 5 service calls (only 2 of which anyone showed up for), countless hours out of work, countless dollars spent on spoiled food, and a virtually useless freezer--without shelves, and 4-1/2 months, it still doesn't work, I have no shelves in the freezer, and GE's service department says, [they're] sorry, but they can't help me. They have essentially told me my warranty is worthless, and they won't repair or replace the unit.
I paid $3500 for this unit, and it hasn't worked, almost from day one. I keep most of my food in a Whirlpool model that I've owned for 15 years in my garage. I can't afford to keep food in it, since it won't keep temperature, and everything spoils within a day or two. There is also the problem of the non-existent shelves in the freezer, rending it useless. I have spent countless hours out of work, waiting for repairmen who don't show up at all. I have also lost valuable time from work, making the last 23 phone calls, sitting on hold, and being spoken to as if I am bothering them.

Purchased GE Refrigerator Model GTS22KBPWWW in August, 2007. Noticed ice forming in the freezer. Had 4 service calls by local retailer in fall of 2007, left for the winter. Next June problem reappeared, servie replaced the Evaporation Motor, and, after problem continued, they consulted with GE Technical Assistance and replace the Air Tower.
Problem again reappeared. Called GE Customer Relations, they sent out a technician who declared that everything that could be done, had been done and that the refrigerator was operatingas designed. Pointed out ice on food in the freezer, he agreed that wasn't good, said it must be because it was wet when placed in freezer (meat?wet?)and told us to call customer relations. They said the freezer had been declared operating as designed and there was nothing further they could do.
I paid $1127 for a refrigerator that is defective in design and I am going to have to replace it next spring when I again return.

I have a GE contracts for all of GE appliances that came with my home. I recently had my freezer icing up and my fridge getting warm (2nd time in 2 years). I place a call to GE and they say a repairman will contact me within 24 hours. I get a call the next day in the afternoon stating that the repairman was a few minutes from my house. So he arrives and begins working, 10 minutes later a 2nd repairman FROM A DIFFERENT company (GE USES BOTH FOR LOCAL SERVICE AGENTS) shows up and BOTH have the same incident report from GE and then begin to get into an arguement in my house about who should perform the service. I proceed to tell the 2nd guy that came sorry and he needed to go.
The main logic board on my fridge was replaced. I called in to file a food loss claim, since i had just spent over $400 at costco and i lost everything in my fridge/freezer. The agent asked how much loss i told her about $300 worth and she told me ok a check will be there in 2-3 weeks. In the meanwhile my freezer FREEZES over again with in 4 days after i had just gone to replace the food I had lost.
So I make a another call to ge appliance and they say someone will be calling me from the repair shop 2 days later, my food has gone bad again, my freezer was 70 degrees inside. The repairman shows up and replaces another part. I call ge to claim more food loss since they didnt fix it properly the first time and they told me 1 have only 1 claim per life of the contract. BEWARE OF THIS, the repairman are contractors and are not motivated to properly fix the issue, coming back 2X is more $$ for them. But I am out of luck on recouping any of my second round of food loss.
So I wait 3 weeks and no check nothing. I call GE at the 3 week mark and i am told that I can only claim $100 total ever. I asked what happened to my prior claim and why I was NEVER contacted once (even tho they have my address and phone number) to fix the issue, the agent proceeded to tell me they didnt know. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he wa a manager, (i have been told this 2X by different agents at GE apparently they are told to claim they are all managers) I asked him to process my claim for $100 and he told me i would have my check is 5-7 days.
I asked to speak to who ever his boss is, I was given a nice 15 minute dose of hold therapy by them and then a lady came on the phone. She said that she saw the other lady had taken my claim but didnt know why she did that or what happened to it I asked her how long my reduced claim would take to get here and she told me 7-10 days.... DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING GE AGENTS TELL YOU ON THE PHONE. THEY SAY ANYTHING AND YOU CAN HAVE ZERO ASSURANCE THAT ANYTHING WILL EVER BE RESOLVED. I still have not recieved a DIME in food loss costs. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY A GE APPLIANCE/LIGHT BULB/ WATCH NBC (owned by GE) EVER AGAIN.

I had purchased a new house with all new GE appliances in the kitchen. The frig M/N GSH25JFTA-BB has been freezing over a number of times. The defrost circuit on the motherboard has failed. I have read the history on these boards and the only obviuos way to repair this is by re-wiring the entire defrost circuit with an external timer. The boards cost approx. $105 every 18 months. The timer cost $25 and as long as you understand basic refrigeration circuits any one can wire one in. The boards do have a recall but to this day I have not found the number to receive the new board for free.
The ending cost was about $30 to perminently repair the issue. A GE Tech charges $70 per visit. By the 2nd visit he will have the part and will fix the problem, so even if you get the board for free you have to spend $140 in labor. No one wins that does even account for the cost in food you also lose. GE is just junk, I would not reccomend to purchase their products.

I just hate it because companies no-longer stand behind their product and I really like the GE design (hence why I furnished my whole house with their appliances) but I now have to find another company to buy appliances from.
I will never purchase another GE appliance no matter how cheap it is and I can only hope that this message with prevent another person from going through the same. This page of complaints is long for a reason and it is not because we have nothing better to do with our time.
The thing that sucks is that I am now going to have to pay $70 bucks for someone to come out and tell that it is broke (which I already am aware of)then depending on the cost to fix I might have the pleasure of forking over some more money. I, unfortunately, purchased a GE refrigerator in 2003. This piece of junk is, without a doubt the very WORST appliance I have ever owned. The bottom part which holds the crispers are made of cheap plastic what cracks and shatters to the point where there is nothing left to hold the crispers in place. They are now sitting on the floor of the refrigerator.
We have no small children who abuse the refrigerator; it has been subjected to normal use and yet it is literally falling to pieces. I used to think that GE was a good brand of appliance, but no more. I would never buy ANYTHING made by GE. Is their junk made in China?
Cheap plastic becomes brittle from cold and shatters and/or falls apart. Must now buy a new refrigerator to replace this VERY INFERIOR appliance.

I am writing to you to complain about my defected GE Profile side by side refrigerator (Model # PSC25SGSCSS and Serial # DL440662) and the horrible service from GE Service to date. For over a month and a half, I am having a problem with the cooling in my refrigerator that is 2 years old.
On 7/18/08 one of GE repairman came to my house to check out the cooling issue and repair the refrigerator. He had stated that there is ice in the refrigerator that is blocking off the cool air from coming out and cooling the food. He has requested from me to provide him with a hairdryer and he tried melting down the ice and he said that this should resolve the cooling problem. Also, he signed me up for a 3 year warranty contract # 309-9397992, since he said that this refrigerator can give me more problems in the future.
Obviously, the repair did not work, so on 8/7/08, a different GE repairman came and stated that the 1st repairman didn't know what he is talking about and ordered a part that would fix the problem. However, the part would be mailed to my house within 3 to 5 business days and a repairman will come on 8/14/08. This was not acceptable since how can we be without a functioning refrigerator for so many days? So that day, after talking once again to customer service and being very frustrated that I will be with a non-functioning refrigerator for so many days and I have a 5 years old child and a 1 years old baby at home, the customer service representative stated that there is nothing she can do and it will come whenever. To our surprise, the part was sent to my house the next day, so once again I had to call GE Service to cancel the appointment for 8/14/08 and reschedule.
When I called again to schedule a repair appointment, the customer service representative has scheduled me for 8/11/08 and then someone called me the next day to cancel the appointment and reschedule me for 8/12/08 since the GE repairman will not be in my neighborhood that day. Finally at 2PM on 8/12/08, the 1st repairman came back (the one that used the hairdryer to melt the ice) and installed the part that was ordered and said that now the refrigerator should be fine.
To our surprise, the refrigerator is still not cooling properly and I had called again on 8/19/08 to get a repair appointment. The refrigerator should be 37 degrees and is currently 56 degrees and the freezer should be 0 degrees and is currently on 9 degrees. However, the only date available was 8/25/08 which was not acceptable, but they told me take it or leave it. If the repairmen do not know what they are doing, they should not work for GE. So on 8/25/08 a repairman from Cool Power (subcontarct for GE) came and stated that he has seen hundreds of these refrigerators with the same cooling problem. He had stated that he needs to order a whole new temperature contol board and kit and that can take 7 to 10 business days.
Afer contacting GE Customer Relations today (8/28/08), the manager that I spoke to said that she is sorry but the part will be sent to me by the end of next week 9/4/08 and then a repairman will have to come again. God only knows how long that will take. This is not acceptable. She offered me $50 compensation for a refrigerator rental. How will I get a refrigerator into my house? Do I need to spend more money on this issue? Where will I place it - in the living room? We cannot live with this frustration anymore. We are throwing on a daily basis spoiled food and milk. My baby is 1 years old and needs to drink whole milk on a daily basis. I am constantly trying to save the milk by placing the it in ice buckets. What age do we live in?
To date, I have been talking to lots of GE customer service representatives who cannot do anything besides read off from their scripts "we apologize for the inconvenience". This does not help; it just gets us more frustrated that they cannot send a repairman the next day. Do you know how much money I spent on this issue? Hundreds. With tough economy these days, this does not help out. If my baby will get sick because of spoiled food and milk, we will have to meet GE in court. As a matter of fact, a co-worker of mine has the same cooling issues with his GE Profile refrigerator. Perhaps this model should be recalled and they are not doing anything. I would appreciate your assistance ASAP.

Last January I puchased a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator Model # PSS23MSW. The on going problem with this refrigerator is an intermittent loud vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment along with frost/ice build up right under the icemaker. The noise first started right after the refrigerator was delivered last February. The first service call for this problem was on February 18, 2008.
In March the ice maker quit and was then replaced on March 21. In April this second ice maker quit and was replaced by yet another on April 18th. The intermittent loud vibrating/clicking noise became noticeable once again. On June 14th the repairman came out and replaced the fan in the freezer to correct the intermittent vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment. Within 48 hours the intermittent noise was back.
My next call for service was on Monday, June 16th. To date his refrigerator has required six service calls and the next call, the seventh, is scheduled for September 4th. I consider this refrigerator a lemon and would like it replaced with a new one. The total number of service calls which include multiple replacements of the ice maker and multiple attempts to correct the loud vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment are definite quality issues with this refrigerator. For these service calls I have had to take time off work which is quite costly to me and my employer. I will never purchase another GE appliance and always warn others against purchasing a GE appliance.

I am going to start telling everyone how lousy GE products have become. We purchased a refrigerator in October 2005. By 2007, refrigerator was no longer freezing and was leaking all over the hardwood in kitchen. It has destroyed the hardwood floor where it sits. We contacted the store we purchased the product from as it was still under warranty. They sent out a GE tech who replaced a part.
Three weeks later, refrigerator was not working again, GE tech came out and replaced another part. 11 months later, Refrigerator is not cooling again, we get another GE tech. Only this time, the warrantee has expired. We find that the door is defective and there was a recall on the product for which it was publicly announced and we should hav known about this.
However, the question is: We called the store and questioned why the technicians from GE did not tell us and were given the answer that they probably did not know. Our response was: how the hell should we have known when they claim the three technicians who serviced the refrigerator did not know. Do they think we were born yesterday? The technicians knew but tried to get the fridge operating until the recall had expired. Bad, bad, bad. This is why our country is in decline. Shoddy workmanship and no accountability. Both my husband and I are in upper management and work with the public. We are going to let everyone know how GE operates. Dawn in Oakland, NJ
From water under the refrigerator, hardwood has been damaged and this is the second time we have lost a freezer full of food. I am aggravated.

Our GE Profile Artica refrigerator, manufactured 5/2003 and purchased in 7/2003, has recently began acting up. At first we began to notice a sudden increase in frost and ice on the inside of the freezer. Then a few days ago we noticed the temperature was increasing in both the freezer and refrigerator.
We removed the food from the freezer and cleaned the coils. The compressor was cool to the touch and the fan was running. The next morning the temps had returned below their set points (-3 freezer 36 fridge). While I was replacing the back cover I noticed that the compressor was extremely hot and the fan was not running.
I watched for awhile to see if the fan would restart. I noticed the upper cover, placed my hand on it and found it to be very hot. Thinking that this may be a second compressor, I removed the screws. The cover was stuck pretty good and needed to be pried slightly to get it off. As I removed the cover I saw that the entire cover was black with soot and there was damage to the wiring and electrical board. Suddenly the was an arch and the electrical panel and wiring burst into flames.
I was able to unplug the unit and extinguish the fire before the flames extended to the wall, window coverings and cabinets. I am unsure if the oxygen supply in the circuit panel area would have been sufficient to allow fire to escape the refrigerator or not. If it had, this could have been catastrophic.
I have been researching this and have found a couple of references to GE products and fires with at least one involving a refrigerator. I am not sure where to go with this as the unit only had a one year warranty. I did not however expect a $1200 unit to quit in 5 years and never anticipated it to start on fire. Expected a $1200 refrigerator to last more than 5 years. Luckily fire was extinguished before spreading.

Over 500 hundred of dollars in spoiled food. We were gone for four days, and when we returned, we had to throw out all of the food that was in the refrigerator. We are using a refrigerator in the garage, which is an inconvenience to us. Over 200 dollars in service calls to-date. Still unable to use our refrigerator. This is a top of the line, four year old, built-in refrigerator. How can this be that it would be non-functioning in only four years? We are in a state of complete frustration, and may file a suit.

June 19th of 2007 we purchased a GE Side by Side model GSS23QGTA BB from Home Depot. This model comes with a digital control panel that displays the temperature in both the freezer and food compartments. The first button press shows the setting the user wants the unit to operate at and the second press shows the actual temps inside the unit.
Shortly after installation we noticed that the Ice Maker would make a large thunk sound intermittently when dispensing whole cubes. We called the service department and they sent us a new control panel for the door, with no instructions on how to install it and they did not schedule a service man to do it for us. I called and they instructed me over the phone how to replace it. Replacing the control panel had no effect on the problem so we called and had a service man come out.
The service tech came out and changed the activator switch on the icemaker lever that is pressed to start dispensing. He also put in another new control panel just in case the one we received in the mail was defective.
Neither of these changes fixed the problem and at the time nothing was done about the temperature. They scheduled a new appointment and we received a complete new ice make in the mail for the tech to replace when he arrived. The new parts were put in and while he was here verified that the problem still existed. He called the factory rep and the rep immediately knew that the problem was the activator switch that had already been replaced needed to be replaced by a different, heavy duty switch which the techs did not carry. So the part was ordered and another appointment was set up to install the new switch.
After the new switch was installed the thunk was resolved (for a while anyway). It was explained to us that the impact of whole cubes hitting the chute as they came out of the dispenser occasionally would cause the lighter duty switch to disengage and the thunk sound was the solenoid that activated the auger turn on and off. This fix lasted for a couple of months when again the situation started happening again, but at a much reduced rate.
After a couple of months we also noticed that the temperatures inside both the freezer and food compartment were nowhere near where the front panel said they were. The temperature inside the freezer which we had set at zero was usually closer to 28 degrees and the temperature inside the food compartment which was set at 34 was usually between 39 to 42 degrees as shown on a Kitchen Aid thermometer. The control panel values for what the actual temps were was not even close to what the thermometer indicated and never matched what we had configured it to be.
We called to have a tech come out to check the temperature problems. He replaced the main circuit board in the back of the unit. He also told us that we could not use a thermometer to determine what the temp was in the food compartment, it could only be accurately checked by measuring the temperature of a liquid since the temp fluctuates due to the defrost cycle in the freezer.
After a few days it was obvious that the temperature problems had not been resolved so we had another tech come out. Temperatures in the freezer was high enough that a rectangular box of ice cream left on its side that was half full would eventually have the remaining ice cream ooze to the side it was standing on. Also, Milk in the food section was never very cold and we were becoming concerned about the safety of the food quality.
We scheduled another service call and the tech replaced the main board with a newer version than the one previously installed. Apparently there had been some upgrades on the boards since the last one was installed. He also replaced the thermistors (the two sensors that detect the temp in the food compartment) with new ones. This resulted in the freezer temps improving but not the food side.
We scheduled another service call and the tech spent a lot of time with the factory rep on the phone. They scheduled another visit and this time they had all of the parts for both the interior of the freezer and food compartment mailed to us for the tech to replace. This service call was placed a few days before our year warranty was due to expire and the tech and factory rep both agreed that a Letter or Commitment? was in order since the issue was not resolved and the warranty was about to expire. The tech came back out after the parts arrived and replaced everything inside and changed both thermistors again.
We received the Letter of Commitment which extended the warranty until January of 2009 and also stated if the problem was not resolved to our satisfaction we could either schedule another service call or get a replacement unit at our discretion.
The temperature problems were not resolved so I called to ask for a replacement unit. I was informed that a tech had to come out to verify that the problem still existed so we scheduled the appointment.
The day he arrived I informed him the only reason he was here was to verity the problem so we could get a new unit. He was surprised at that and after verifying that the temperatures were still wrong asked to see the letter I had received. He called his office and I was given the option of replacing with a comparable unit, upgrading and paying the difference between the models or getting a different model of similar cost.
In all, we had at least 7 service calls over the span of a year.
Something that has really been bothering me and I wish someone could give me an answer on is this: during one of the service calls (I cant remember which one it was) I noticed something interesting on the service techs computer. Im a computer programmer and had been a weapons technician on a submarine when I was in the Navy so I know what I am seeing when I look at a diagnostic screen. There was an indicator for the temperature set by the owner and a different temperature called the target? temp. I asked the tech what the difference was between the two numbers. I was informed that the temperature set by the owner was just an indicator for the owners benefit, the actual temperature the unit was going to try and get to was the Target Temperature which was based on what the customer chose.
The user setting in the freezer was zero and the target temp was nine degrees, so there is always a nine degree difference between what the user selects and what the unit attempts to get to. I asked why the difference and was told thats how they get the energy star rating by reducing how much the unit has to work to get to the desired temperature.?
My wife is really annoyed about this. Her feeling and that of some friends we described this too is if GE is intentionally lying to the customer by saying you can set the temp to zero and intentionally preventing the unit from doing that, then that is fraud on GEs part. I asked two different service techs if it is possible through the use of the diagnostic tool if it was possible to configure the unit to make the target temp match what is set by the owner and was told no, it was not possible to do that. The target temp is set at the factory and the techs cant change it.
I have a friend who has a top of the line GE with similar control panel and he indicated that the temps on his unit match exactly with the panel indicators. I mentioned that to one of the service techs and he said that is because it is a better unit than the one I have.
The main consequence from this situation is time lost from work to be available for the technician and the frustration at having to go through all these problems. We purchased this GE because our old refrigerator was a GE that we bought USED in 1990 and was most likely 10 years old when we bought it. We thought from that experience that GE was a quality product, but see that there is no quality at all in the products they produce now. We would really like to get our money back and purchase something different, but I know that is not going to happen. We will have to take a replacement unit and hope we dont continue to have problems in the future. I can assure GE that we WILL NOT BUY GE PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE!

When I bought my townhouse new in June 2002, it came with all GE appliances which I paid a lot of money (I know it was $1,400 for whatever model I have) for in upgrades. This model of side-by-side refrigerator is the subject of a Class Act Civil Law Suit. When we first got notice of the law suit, we called GE for service on the refrigerator because the ice maker wasn't making ice properly. The service man replaced the ice maker. The problem seemed to be resolved for 1-2 weeks and then, it was doing the same thing once again. He came out and this time...they replaced the two front doors!
That seemed to make it better, but when we moved the refirgerator to clean under it last year, we noticed water damage on the baseboard from some pan that you can't get to overflowing. It's part of this frost-free problem. Now, here it is July 2008, and the refrigerator is TOO WARM and the freezer gets too cold. I looked online and found some info on what it could be. My boyfriend went into the freezer, took the panel off in the back and the coils are all frosted over! We have had to take a blow dryer and melt it two times...in the past 3 weeks.
I will NEVER ever buy GE again because of this! I've lost lots of food and my NF milk keeps spoiling..Wah! A refrigerator should last longer than this. My parent's have a washer/dryer that is 25 years old from Maytag and they have never had a service issue. GE- you should be ashamed of yourself!
$400 in food and now, I'm so fed up with dealing with the problems with this refrigerator that I will have to go buy a new one.

When it would not hold the temperature in the summer, we called again and were told it did not hold the set temperature in the hot weather. Now the unit has stopped working and is not covered by the original warranty. I refused to add the additional cost of an "extended warranty" so I am out of luck. I will never buy a GE appliance again and will urge all my friends and acquaintances to do the same. He replaced part and stated that it should start working shortly. After a few hours we determined no change and called GE again.
i spoke to their costumer service department which took complaint and transfered me to their Consumer Relations department stated that they were the ones which handle these disputes. Representative at this end did not know how to answer reason why tech did not check appliance and just assumed that it was the motherboard causing problem and just simply apologized and stated all they can do is reschedule service call for the 17th. I then had to take the day off of work and when technician arrived he stated that it was the thermostat that wa faulty and he needed to order part and would need to come back out and soonest that that could be done would be the 22nd.
I again called Consumer Relations to see if they can have somone out sooner than that because I have small children at home who have had nothing to eat at home because off refrigerator not working. Rep stated that they could not have anyone out sooner because parts needed to be ordered and it will not get here till Monday. Parts arrived on Saturday morining and I called again to request service call for Monday and again all they simply stated was that they will pu in a call to tech and see if that was possible I never heard back from them on Monday evening I called to check on cervice call for the next day and it was confirmed for between 8 and 12. at 12:30 when service guy had not arived I called again to find out why he had not arrived and again just received an apology that he was running late at another call. When srvice tech arrived he replaced part and stated that he set it at high and refrigerator would shortly start working. it did not.
Again I called Consumer Relations and explained my greeviences and how this was costing me time and money and again only received and apology and that they would reschdule for tech to come back tommorrow. I again took another day off of work and service tech never showed. When calling Consumer Relations department I again received another one of their famous apologies and that they will reschdule for tommorrow.
At this point I have lost over 1600 dollars worth of pay from my employment not to mention how upset my employer is at yet another day I will have to take off of work. and at no point in time does any of the supervisor I have spoken to made as much of an attempt to appeace my frustrations and either re-imburse me for monies spend to them or to try to schedule someone around my schedule or as late as possiple so that I dont have to miss another day of work they just simply state "I do apologize for any inconvenience, but all we can do is reschdule". I am at a loss of how they have handled or rather not handled this dispute specially when it has come down to their technician just simply not showing up.
as a result of this I and my husband have both missed days of work not to mention money spent on eating out because we can not keep any food in the house for our children. And I have gotten driven to a point where I want to physically go to their office and demand attention. I am exhausted and at my ends with this matter.

She then gave me the GE Appliance HQ address in Louisville KY and Mr Ray Graft's name. I am asking one more time for a replacement or equal value or a full refund as I do not feel I should be required to buy another GE product at this time. Next step, I will contact the BBB and / or local TV Stations as it is a mission of mine to have this made right at no cost to me.
New linoleum flooring has constant standing water on it around and underneath this unit because of melting ice running out of the freezer compartment. This too, will need to be fixed if damage is incurred.

I bought a GE refridgerator model GSL25JFR side by side Dec.23 2005. About a month ago,June 2008, it started making a clicking sound and the water dispenser stopped giving water. The ice maker quit dispensing ice. The lights inside would dim if I pushed the water/ice dispenser paddle in the door. I'm out of warranty and the cust.svc rep said it would be two weeks to get a tech out. They said its probably the mother board.
My food loss cost me around $400.00 and no one at GE cust.service seemed wiling to help. They asked why I didn't buy the extended warranty for $186.50 for three years and my response was it's a brand new GE. It will last 20 years or so. So now I'm using my 17 year old Amana that's in the garage. Just like some other peaple who thought GE was a good brand. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GE PRODUCT AGAIN, AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO DO THE SAME! PS, a good friend of mine had the same problem after only 13 months. one month to the day after he was out of warranty. His repair bill approx.$320.00
the machine cost $1250. the food cost of replacement approx. $400

On July 15th the GE service department will have come five times to our residence. three times it has been trouble with the ice maker, the first time the entire freezer dept. had been defrosted after 6 days of installation. A new board was installed, that to me was an omen of things to come. Now we are looking at the entire handle off the freezer door has come off due to the fact that the freezer freezes on the left hand side of the icemaker and the door will not open. When you do get it open ice falls out on the floor and you have to sweep it in a pan and dispose of the ice.
I really don't think that even a new one at this juncture would be the answer. I think it is the design of the refrigerator. Nothing at this point would satisfy me except a complete refund because i am very dubious of this make and model refrigerator. I am very disgusted that i still owe $400 on a refrigerator that i despise. If it was guilded in gold i would not want it. I have put up with this since the day i bought it and everytime that i call GE they want to just mail me the broken parts. My warranty will be up in october and i want this resolved as soon as possible.
My husband will probably have a heart attack if he gets out ice one more time and it goes all over the floor!

My GE side by side refrigerator model PSS27SGPASS had problems since the start in October 2003. Temperature in the refrig.section drops so much, especially in summer months, that foods in the back of the shelf become frozen. Techician told me it's a common problem with different brands, but I never had this problem before, even when my fridges were over 10 yrs.old and not so good-looking as this GE one. Technician also recommended to be careful not to put items that could be spoiled by freezing in the back of the shelves. That seems like a lot of nonsense to me, because foods are constantly shuffled in the fridge and it's impossible to keep track of such thing.
Humidity control is nonexistent in this model, which means it should be controlled automatically. Unfortunately, during summer time shelves are constantly wet, and this moisture is getting inside in the food containers and spoils the food. Freezer door is leaking from under the water dispenser. When it happened in the beginning, the only way they could fix this problem was to change the whole door. We've got 5 or 6 doors because the model number was wrong?, it took over 2 months and heavy lifting of these doors to dump them, since GE did not want to pick them up (each door retails for $1100), and finally the door was replaced.
Now after 2 years it's leaking again. I've just called GE service dept to schedule another technician's visit, but don't have too much hope for it. I would like to know if other people experienced any of these problems and what was the outcome. Food spoilage

In January 2007 we realized that our extended warranty had expired for all our appliances. We contacted GE because our refrigerator required a repair. We had the refrigerator repaired out of warranty and renewed the warranty for all of our appliances and merged multiple contracts. We found out last week that the contract we paid for did not include the refrigerator because the same part (a valve) failed again and we needed to get service for the appliance again out of warranty. Upon speaking to customer relations we were told that we should have been smart enough to review our service contract and should have noticed that the refrigerator was not included. Because we had merged the contract we missed the mistake.
When we called for service we found out it was not on the contract. After speaking to multiple representatives and a supervisor, we were told that there would be a $99.95 trip fee but, if we had the repair done, the fee would be waived. The repair was completed yesterday and we called to get the fee of $99.95 reimbursed and we were told flatly that we did not qualify and that there was absolutely no recourse. The issue is that the part was under warranty as it was just replaced in January of 2007. The entire repair was $249.95 for a part that was under warranty. It is absurd to pay that kind of money for a faulty part.

In the beginning of June I had trouble with my refrigerator not cooling. This unit is just over one year old with an extended warrenty. The first tech came and replaced the computer, and the problem was still there. The second tech came and said the compressor was bad. The first tech came back and replaced the compressor and determined that the evaporator was blocked. Now I have been waiting four weeks for a new evaporator. G.E.told me it was on back order. I requested a new refigerator and was told that as long as it can be repaired I will not get a new one.
I was offered a $100.00 refund if I bought a dorm refrigerator and I told them I can't use one it's too small. I was also offered $50.00 a week towards a rental but I told them that I don't have a place for it. Now we are coming into the fourth of July weekend and I still don't know for sure when it will be repaired. I could understand if this was an older refigerator not being able to get parts, but a one- year old machine there should be no problem unless there is a problem with poor quality parts then this machine should have been replaced with a new one.
Because of this I have to keep buying ice and I am forced to buy fresh food every day or every other day and not stock up on food or buy food that is on sale to freeze. Also from moving this machine so many times it marked up my new floor in a newly renovated kitchen.

I built a new retirement home in 2005 and had a choice of GE appliances. I selected a top-line model, the PSS26NGSBB GE Profile 25.5 CU Ft. model, with the LightTouch water and ice dispenser. As I still had another primary home also in Florida with an older, but top of the line GE refrigerator that we moved around in our military assginments that gave outstanding service, we felt GE was the more reliable brand.
We didn't move into the new home until February 2008, so the unit was not used at all for three years and remained in new, pristine condition. Immediately after moving in, we heard a whining noise like a fan that would whirr and escalate in pitch then cycle down..constantly. We felt that it might be the nature of the sophistication of all the capabilities of this multi-function unit. Then, we noticed the light would dim as we pushed the light touch paddle in the dispenser to obtain water and ice. Today, the light dims when the dispenser paddle is touched but no ice or water is dispensed. I tried replacing the water filter in case the filter was clogged or had a sensor when it needed replacing that affected water dispensing. Of course, this had no effect. For all intents and purposes, this is a brand new unit with 5 months of use.
I am now faced with calling GE appliance repair, but after reading the posts on this site, and reviewing all the GE complaints, I am not hopeful. This is where customer service and product reliability has come today. GE understands that with every product it builds, there is an incidence rate (of problems, complaints). It chooses to ignore this percentage of owners of their product rather than underwrite better consumer support or resolve complaints. why should Americans continue to support GE by buying inferior products or its poor leadership (CEO Jeffrey Immelt).

We purchased a GE Monogram REfirgerator in 2001. It came with a life time warranty for interior parts. Most of the interior parts have broken years ago, while it was still fairly new as well as while it has aged. A representative came out once and ordered all of the parts to be replaced, however, he missed some of them. For instance I recieved a drawer with no front, etc.
I have also had a lot of food wasted constantly over the years due to the temperature dropping in the frig and the freezer. I can not safely feed my family knowing that the food has probably defrosted several times before I decide to cook it. One day the food will be frozen and the next it is soft. I have paid several GE Technicians to come out and address the issue and all they claim every time is that the condensor unit on top is dirty. (I have yet to see the amount of dirt it would take to make it stop working).
Several of the technicians have been rude and in one case I had to tell him very abruptly to get out of my house. Continuously, however, this problem remains. I have taken my cabinet completely off the wall and the removable cover of the condensor unit off the the refrigerator, permanently so that I can wipe the inside of the motor and copper lines etc. constantly.
The refrigerator is ugly with motor parts sticking out and everything and it still does the same thing. It doesn't work. I have to use another refrigerator in the garage now, because I do not trust this one. I spent thousands on it too.
In addition to this, the ice is always melting, there is water on the floor, and the interior wall of the unit that separates the frig from the freezer stays burning hot when you touch it and it has done this for years as well. GE has seen it and they won't take care of it. That is also dangerous for my children as well.
I went to a major appliance dealer in Hayward recently to order some other items not related to this, and when I spoke about it to them, they were appauled and gave me an 800 number to call, listed above. They heard my complaint and are sending someone over tomorrow to look at the issue. They were going to charge me again for the technician to come and I couldn't believe it. I threatened to report them to any and every bureau that would hear me and then they decided to wave the technician home visit fee.
They had also offered a pro-rated cost to replace my unit or they could see about the repair costs to repair it. I told them, that because they can see the history in their records that this was an on going issue that should have been addressed under warranty, and that what they were offering was not acceptable. I do not feel I should have to pay for this issue. They also tried to charge me approx.$1000 for interior parts that were under the lifetime warranty as well. I just want a good and safe refrigerator. I should get that!

I also have a replacement GE refrigerator. My new model started to freeze the ice together and I started to get plastic in my ice. I called consumer affairs at GE and they sent out a tech. He looked at the freezer, stated I needed a new ice bucket and that he needed to replace the mother board. (this was the same tech who was out three years ago when I had problems with my first GE fridge). He stated it would cost me $250.
I asked what would happen if we didn't replace motherboard. He said it was a 50/50 chance our whole refrigerator would go down. After losing my food three years ago, I said Ok change the motherboard.
Two days later the ice started freezing together again. This time, i started to get large (6+ inches) of ice blocks in my ice bucket. I took the ice blocks out. A few days later it happened again. I called GE and they sent out a repairman. I requested a different tech to see if I would get another opinion. The second tech opened the freezer looked at it and stated we must have left the door open. I said we didn't and described the huge blocks of ice. He said since I didn't save the ice how it was, he could not tell me what was wrong. Of course I didn't save the ice, I didn't want broken pieces of plastic in my ice!
Again, he said we must have left the door open and said he didn't think anything was wrong with it. Something is wrong with the ice maker and defrost unit. As soon as the ice melts together again, I will be on the phone with GE consumer relations again. And I will save the blocks of ice. After going through this a few years ago, I know the numbers at GE to call and to be persistant.
