Our four-year old GE profile (freezer drawer on bottom) failed three times in eight months. Always the same problem-- freezer too cold and refrigerator too warm (room temp). First, they replaced the control board at a cost of $279.23. Two weeks later, they replaced the thermister and then (six months later) they said it was a problem with this refrigerator and you must pull the freezer drawer all the way out with both hands on the middle and push it closed the same way every time you open it. We were actually charged $185.93 for the service man to tell us how to hold the door handle with both hands. What a crock!

This is the worst refrigerator we have ever owned and we are disgusted with the utter disregard for customer service by GE. Their service number is 1 800 GE Cares, talk about an oxymoron. They obviously do not care. Just look at the postings on the internet for more of the same. We discarded this refrigerator a few months ago and bought a new Samsung never to buy a GE product again. GE's deficient products and their total lack of customer service has cost them not only a customer but everyone I can talk to about what an inferior company they are.

On 01/23/2010, I purchased a monogram refrigerator model zfsb23drss which was delivered on 01/26/10. On the same day, I realized that the water and Ice dispenser did not work. I called for service and we scheduled a service call for 01/29/10. The service man said that there where parts that he needed and that he would order it and we would schedule the repairs for 02/05/10. Another repair man came only to tell me that the entire door needed to be replaced. He ordered a new door which came on 02/23/10.

We then scheduled a repair for 2/24/10. On 02/24/10, the repair man said the new door had a problem and that he needed to order another one. I was told that the new door would arrive by 02/26/10 and that we would schedule a repair date on 02/26/10. On 03/01/10, I called to inquire on the status of the shipment only to be told that the door had been lost by the shipper and that a new one would be shipped immediately.

To make the saga short, on 03/08/10 I received two doors. I now have three doors in my home and we scheduled a repair date for 03/09/10. On 03/09/10, I received a phone call that the repair guy was sick and scheduled a new date of 03/10/10. I have wasted 4 work days waiting for repairs and many hours tracking the shipments and still, after almost 2 months, don't have a fully working refrigerator.

Refrigerator is only five and a half years old and is not used hard. I had to replace the heater defrosting system fan at the cost of $228 and was told by the serviceman that this is the way they are made, not made to last. I have had refrigerators made by Kenmore that went over 20 years without needing repair. Unfortunately, I own another GE frig that is one year newer than this one. The repairman said it too will need repair soon. I find this totally unacceptable. The frig will not cool properly when this fan breaks, so you can imagine the health risk. I am fortunate that it did not result in food poisoning!

I wanted to add this to the complaint filed earlier about the GE Monogram refrigerator. We have to daily chop away ice from the refrigerator to have it work. Even doing that, the temperature is higher than appropriate. We purchased an inexpensive refrigerator/freezer unit to place in the garage to keep the fresh food from spoiling. The Monogram was a very large investment. GE is not handling this problem at all.

I purchased a GE Monogram Stainless steel Side by Side refrigerator three years ago. This is their top of their line model. 6 months ago, the temperature in the refrigerator started to rise. A GE tech came and said that the unit gets too cold, freezes and stops cooling. GE knows about this problem, and now offers a heating system for $600 to help with this situation. I think it is ridiculous to have to put a heater in a refrigerator to keep it at the right temperature. If GE acknowledges this problem, they should take responsibility and not pass it onto the consumer. The economic damage is the service fees so far, I have spent more than $500 and the loss of food several times in the past months. Today, both the freezer and refrigerator were not cooling, so the loss was substantial.

I have Refrigerator PFS22MBSWW, Serial #SAZHO56875. I'm writing to you in regard to the above-mentioned refrigerator which I purchased on February 16, 2006. Since Day 1, I have had nothing but problems with this fridge. So far, two doors, the temperature control and one shelf on door have been replaced. As well, the track to the vegetable/fruit bin is broken and today the clip on the left door facing the fridge has broken off once again to which the door has to be replaced for the third time. We do not force the door nor ever do anything to cause any damages - it just simply happens because of its lack of quality that we had to discover after its purchase.

I have appliances in my home for over forty years that have never been broken as my freezer as well as other appliances that have been operating for over twenty years. This is the first time that I have experienced anything like this. We are only two people living in our home and this fridge has been a disaster from the first day it arrived in my kitchen.

I need action on this immediately. Four years into purchasing an item of almost two thousand dollars that seems to continuously break down is absurd. Several salespersons at competitive stores and the service technician himself acknowledged that there is a manufacturing defect with this fridge. So, what can you do about it? Will I have to replace this whole unit this year to purchase something for another cost of $2,000? I certainly hope not. I have always relied on GE products, but this time GE has failed terribly.

There have been many recalls on consumer products. I'm wondering if this fridge needs to be recalled, I mean replaced! What an expensive price to pay for a sub-standard product, let alone the time wasted and aggravation caused to get service. I hope a reply regarding this matter will be received in the very near future. The letter was sent February 21, 2010 to Mabe Inc., in New Brunswick, an e-mail to Burlington, Ontario and a copy where it was purchased. To date, a reply has not been received.

Upon delivery of my GE profile refrigerator (bottom freezer model), I noted that there was a hard plastic connector, which allowed the handle to meet the doors of the refrigerator (a space filler). I noticed this small insignificant part, because it looked so cheap, and didn't seem appropriate for the refrigerator. We had some larger issues with our refrigerator, and they were taken care of promptly, and adequately. Within months of using our refrigerator, the plastic pieces I spoke of, cracked. I felt the larger issues were addressed, and I would learn to live with the cracks.

Within 5 years now of owning my refrigerator, all the connections are cracked, and one to the point, it crumbled, and there is space between my handle and freezer door. On investigation, we realized the cheap plastic piece was only held to the handle by two screws. I called the parts department, to order new ones, thinking they must be quite reasonable, so I would order several to repair all the cracked ones and have back up.

This was not possible. They do not sell that small plastic piece, which is easily replaced by removing the two screws. I had to buy a new handle at a cost of $160. After many phone calls, I was told they would only charge me $60. Feeling like I was being held hostage to this situation (my fridge looked bad, and I didn't want any damage to my door), I purchased the handle. Beside the cost, it absolutely bothered me that I was throwing away a perfectly good handle, to replace a small plastic piece. The pieces were cracked on my top door as well, and I knew it was just a matter of time before another handle hit the landfill.

I reached out to superiors in the Consumer Affairs department and after many emails and phone calls, I was told they don't sell that part, and statistically they have had few complaints, end of story (for him). Well, the new handle I just replaced weeks ago is now cracked, and in pieces. We are an adult family of three. We all worked/and or go to school, and eat out far too often. This refrigerator is not getting extreme use. I am furious! It is not just the cost and inconvenience for me, it is also the fact that these large metal handles must be disposed of, because of a small inferior part that is easily manufactured, and replaced. I will never purchase another GE product again and GE has not heard the last of me.

My GE side by side refrigerator has not worked right from day one. The ice maker does not shut off and the ice piles up and then cracks the shelf above it and you cannot remove the ice bucket without trying to defrost it. I had them come in and repair and at that time, I was told to take out a GE extended warranty and not from the store where I purchased it. As soon as the technician left, the same problem occurred and we could not stop the ice unless shutting it manually. I waited for contract to go into effect then the technician came and again tried to fix it along with other parts that were broken. Everything is plastic and doesn't take much to crack.

At this point, I am totally disgusted to think that GE was reputable. I made ice and then had to write a note to myself to manually shut it off or would have to defrost to get the bucket out. Also, they would not replace cracked shelf due to icing problem. Now, the refrigerator is only three years old and it totally shuts down both refrigerator and freezer and had to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of food.

I called the next day to tell them that this is ridiculous and asked what is the point of service contract and they told me that they would make me priority. It turned out that heating element went after three years. They also told me that there was something wrong on the design of my model of the ice maker and they will never get it to work. I found out also that GE no longer does the service contract but they outsource it and could care less that all my parts are broken and the ice maker can't be fixed. What a joke that I bought this refrigerator because it was GE and I thought they stood behind their products. I will never buy another GE product again. This has been a nightmare and I didn't even need a new refrigerator but doing stainless steel for my other appliances and I wanted it to match.

I had to buy bags of ice and coolers to keep whatever I was able to salvage. I lost about $250.00 worth of food and had to live out of coolers for one week. They will reimburse me for $100 which doesn't come close to the food and ice I spent as well as the aggravation and having to wait for one week. The best was I had an appointment for a day later and realized that I could do the initial date and cancelled the second date. Well, I got the technician two days in a row, no wonder I had to wait a week. They are totally incompetent.

I called to ask how procedure to getting broken GE refrigerator repaired. I had purchased extended warranty. I was told I'd never purchased it, so I asked if their records could be wrong since I'd paid for it. I was told I "was dreaming", that I "must wish I did but never did." Then they hung up the phone. I called back later to see if they would check again, but first I said, "How are you?" and he started screaming at me, "You could care less how I am. You don't know me and don't give a damn how I am and don't ever ask how I am again!"

I said okay and then asked if they could check again since I had purchased extended warranty (4 year). They told me they couldn't be bothered and hung up the phone. My 86 year old father who lives near the store went over to talk to them after I told him what happened. They told him to get out of the store or they'd throw him across the room! I called back and they laughed and hung up the phone.

I also own a General electric refrigerator Model GSH25JFRF CC. The ice maker stopped. I could hear the relay switch continually clicking. I contacted my repair man. He said that the control panel on the back was installed in New Mexico. That it was bad and the panel costs $400 to replace. The one in the door would cost $200 to replace. He said that both panels would need to be replaced. This is a bad note to know that a refrigerator you paid $1100 for would quit when your warranty just went out. General Electric sucks! I had to purchase a new refrigerator. You can bet I will never buy another General Electric refrigerator again!

I purchased a GE Profile, french door, freezer on the bottom refrigerator in August of 2007. Since that time, the ice maker has been replaced. The computer has been replaced twice and a relay switch has been replaced. The first two repairs were under warranty. The second two were not, although after a lot of tenacious complaining, the service fees were waived.

I asked, when calling to report the cooling failure, if there had been any problems with the workings of my refrigerator. I was told no. That was clearly a lie. Why should I not be allowed to know that there were computer problems with an appliance that I spent $2000 on? Today, I had the computer replaced for the second time. I have learned that GE has had a lot of problems with the computer board, although, they will not admit it to you if asked. I was told that there would be no charge for the repair. That clued me into investigating the problem. It is true. There have been many computer problem and the computer board installed today is the third design since I purchased the refrigerator.

We have had several problems but the most recent and what I feel is dangerous is that the plastic fins on the ice maker auger are breaking off into the ice bin and are being dispensed in with the ice. This has the very real potential of being consumed causing injury or death. The pieces are sharp.

After taking a day off work to get my icemaker repaired, the GE tech showed up and did not fix my icemaker. When I told him it was still broken, he insisted I was wrong and the machine just didn't have enough ice. After calling again to let them know it was still broken and I wanted to be refunded the $200 I was charged, I was told it would be refunded right away. After a week, I called back when it had not been refunded and was told it could take up to 2 weeks. After 2 weeks when I called back, I was told 2-4 weeks.

After 4 weeks, I was told 4-6 weeks, and have just recently been told 6-8 weeks. Obviously, they are going to continue to keep my money for as long as they like. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told he would contact the department who issues the refunds (he told me he could contact them but I wasn't allowed their information) and would return my call in 24 hours. 1 week later, I have had no return call and still have no refund. I will never purchase anything made by General Electric again. I have never been refunded the $200.

Please help this "dissatisfied customer." I purchased a brand new GE Freezer from Bray and Scarf on July 2006 (ZIFS36NMLH model). We bought a 4 year warranty, within those years we have had over 5 service calls. I have been very disappointed from that point. Over the last few years, the bottom of the freezer just keeps leaking water onto the base. By this happening, the bins in the freezer are being frozen shut! The service tech and myself has to take something and hit the ice on the bins to get the bins out or poor hot water to defrost the bottom, so you can get the bins out!

One time the service tech had me to boil water, so he can loosen up the ice in the hose. The service people have been taking the entire freezer apart to see what the problem is, but they all keep saying the same thing! That is, "I don't know what's wrong with it! So now my $3000.00 freezer has scratches and little dents in the bottom!

I think a product as expensive as a freezer needs to perform longer than 3 years, and I think your company should seriously review the quality of the work performed by (I assume) your sub-contractors. I'm totally disgusted with General Electric appliance company. I am having a horrible experience trying to get them to repair it correctly or even replace it. I want General Electric Appliances to repair it right or replace this freezer as soon as possible! Maybe whoever is training the service people should come out and use my model for an example in class! So much food lost.

I have a GE Profile with model number PDS22SFFBLSS. The ice maker does not shut off at the proper level. The bin overflows, and several cubes fall out into the bottom of the freezer. When I called GE, the first person I talked with said there is a tray that fits under the bin to raise it up. They then transfered me to Parts. That person told me there was no part like that and I would have to replace the ice maker unit, because they don't have individual parts, at my expense. We purchased a GE Profile Refrigerator on 7/15/06 for $1,537.00 plus an additional $164.25 for two additional door shelves. On 5/29/07, we had to call for service because the ice maker fell off the wall. (We turn it on to fill the ice tray, then promptly turn it off so that it doesn't produce too much ice) Fortunately, this repair was covered under the 1 year warranty. Then, on 12/7/09 we had to call for repair as the temperature in both the refrigerator and freezer kept fluctuating and we had to throw away some food, as we weren't sure it was safe. This service call cost us $318.00 to replace the electronic control module in the back of the refrigerator.

Then, two months later, 2/16/10 we had to call for service again as the door keep beeping. The latch was broken, as well as the glide on the shelf that holds the crisper drawers. (These parts are made of 1/16 inch plastic). Our cost to replace these two pieces was $397.50. We were told that the "replacement parts" have a 5-year warranty. Why didn't the original parts have the same warranty? My husband and I are both retired and we have no children living at home, so the refrigerator is well cared for. We feel it was very poorly constructed and we would not recommend anyone to purchase a GE refrigerator.

On Dec. 12, 2009, I purchased a GE microwave oven, side by side refrigerator (GXHF2KGXBB), washer, and dryer from one of the local appliances store. The microwave oven was not working at all two hours after the technician installed it. The store replaced a brand new different brand microwave oven. On Feb. 22, 2010, the two month old GE refrigerator has no temperature on both sides. I called the repair service and reported the problem. The customer service representative did not think it was a crisis, even when I told her the foods started to unthaw. I asked for next day repair; she said that was impossible.

I called consumer relations the next day to speak to a supervisor. She told me there was nothing she could do about it but have a technician to repair the refrigerator. All I want is to have a brand new refrigerator that will work. I’m the consumer and I paid for the products that should be working instead of having to repair a brand new piece of junk that is only two months old. Does GE ever take pride for their products? And does GE understand what customers’ satisfaction guaranty is? I do not care about foods in the refrigerator. All I want is a refrigerator that would work for many years to come.

On Oct. 5th, 2009 we discovered our GE Monogram fridge had been "sweating" into the wall, cabinets and floor that surround this built in appliance. GE sent an adjuster to my home and has agreed to accept liability for the damage this high end defective GE product caused. Electric Insurance determined the repairs would cost $9800 but the contractor bill total was $21,000. The sweating fridge caused black mold to grow on the surfaces surrounding this built in fridge and was not discovered by us until the floor tiles began coming loose in front of this fridge. GE admitted they are aware of a problem with this model ZIC36NANLH.

I believe that GE has an obligation to warn consumers of a known problem with their product. I have sent letters and made many phone calls to GE to resolve this problem. Saandi P. of Electric Insurance is handling the claim. I sent her the repair bills and she says she is looking into it but never calls me back. I sent her the repair bills on 12/27 and have not received a reply. I am asking for help to force GE to do the right thing. I believe GE should do a recall of this known model GE Monogram $6,000 high end refrigerator. Other consumers have this same problem going on and need to be warned. Black mold has made my family sick. I want to prevent others from going through what I did because of this faulty refrigerator. Please help me.

As a result of the fridge "sweating", as GE repair calls it, black mold grew in the drywall behind it, the built in panel and cabinets surrounding it, the tile floor underneath it and two layers of subfloor below that. By the time the damaged materials were removed I was looking down into the crawlspace. The toxic black mold has made my family sick. Nose bleeds, hair loss, and memory loss are some of the ways this hazardous mess has harmed us. The repair bills to remodel the kitchen total $21,000. We believe GE is responsible for our loss.

Then a year and half later, I went back to Lowe's and was told it was out of warranty. So off and on I kept defrosting it and getting repairmen to check it. Three said they could not find the problem. Well, I accidentally went to a GE site that our local TV station recommended to go to for a federal rebate. It was here that I contacted GE about my problem with this refrigerator.

They admitted to me that this one was on recall because the doors were defective, but the recall had already expired. The problem is I was never notified of a recall, never heard anything about it. Lowe's was not honest with me about it either. GE offered me a $400 credit on one, but I would have to pay almost $800 more plus shipping from Danville, Va. I did not accept this because $800 was too much for me to pay. We bought our home 5 years ago and GE was the appliance picked by the builder. That was the first problem. The first year, the board in the back of the frig burnt up and GE fixed it. Then it was down hill. The fan in the freezer started to make noise, it whistles. GE said the fan was going bad but wait until it brakes, I would have to pay for that, 5 years now and it still whistles. The auger for the ice maker broke GE said, it was not covered anymore. I had to buy the part and fix it myself. Then the water stopped coming out of the front, I fixed that.

After 3 years, the front door under the controls for the ice and water started to rust. GE said, they would send someone for $80 to look at it and then see how much it would cost me to repair it, I said, "No thanks." Now the water has stopped coming out the front again. It's time to bury this machine and never will I purchase a GE again. Oh, I had trouble with the GE microwave and the GE oven. They also had to be repaired. All this within 5 years. Did I mention that I have a small child who needs milk and food? Do not buy a GE. The last refrigerator we had lasted 20 years without these kinds of problems!

My 3.5 year old refrigerator went down. I had a serviceman that GE sent out twice to try and repair my refrigerator. He tried various things and charged me almost $300 for the first visit. The second was no charge because my refrigerator is still not useable. GE is supposed to refund me $110 for the part. Finally after the second visit, the serviceman told me that the parts were going to cost over $400 and basically, if GE would not pick up the cost, they should replace unit. I have been calling them and I can not get anything definite out of them. I have emailed, faxed and called.

I have been without a refrigerator for 1.5 weeks. I have a bad motherboard. Apparently, the unit leaked out all the freon and most likely burned out the compressor. The unit basically needs to have all the major components replaced and they are saying the need to look at the serviceman's notes, talk to him and any excuse not to get this resolved. I do not want another GE unit. Just give me some of my money back to go towards a new unit not made by GE, but they don't do that. The unit does not cool and is sitting in my kitchen taking up space. They have had units recalled or free replacements due to bad motherboards in specific units but mine does not qualify.

I have had GE refrigerators for over 20 years, and that worked just fine. I then replaced my fridge with a GE Profile French door with freezer at the bottom. About 2 years now, I already called in service technician 3 times. I could not have the ice machine at first make any ice. A technician fixed that within the first year.

Then it broke again a year later, and then, he charged us $250 for fixing it. And again this weekend, the fridge was not cooling at all. All the food in there went waste, and I feel terrible about that. GE said they can only send a technician after the weekend. Here in Haiti, people are suffering for food, and I threw away 4 gallons of milk, etc., etc., and I feel so guilty all because of GE.

The technician came and said that the main switch board was blown, and hence, repair will cost $300 which I have paid to get it working. I should have read all these consumer complaints before purchasing this fridge. I have all other appliances in the house at least 10-20 years old, and they are all GE and work like a charm. The fridges are not manufactured under the same QA process I think. Really bad on the part of GE. I feel terrible even recommending GE refrigerators to anyone.

I called this service center on Monday, Jan. 11 to request warranty service for my refrigerator which was making a loud clicking sound when the compressor was trying to come on. I was told I would be contacted by a service technician to schedule an appointment in 24 to 48 hours. Having no such call by Thursday, Jan. 14 I called again and was told that the problem had been related to the locator section, but the service provider had refused the request.

I was then referred to a customer service agent who after checking this information told me the request had not been refused but had not been assigned to a technician. He indicated that I would probably be contacted before day's end. I heard nothing! On Saturday night, Jan. 16 the refrigerator clicking awakened me in the night. When I went to check, the compressor never came on. So, in fear of burning my house down, I unplugged it. I have a service policy. I called a week ago while the refrigerator was working and still have not been contacted by anyone and the refrigerator is not working at all.

I submitted the following to GE online customer support: Part Number : GSH25JFRFCC, Part Description : water dispenser, Comments : SN - MH231600. The parts illustration on your website is inoperative, just like the water dispenser on this unit. I've exhausted the troubleshooting guide and wish to review the water schematic of this unit so I can figure out what is wrong so I can fix it. The ice maker still functions as designed. Can you help? Thanks.

They responded and requested I call the parts department. The parts department says they are not technicians and can't help. This is the second fault with this side-by-side fridge. The first fault was the ice dispenser flapper valve seal leaks and causes freeze up inside freezer. I got pretty much the same runaround. Two of my neighbors has the same model and also the same problem(s). GE is expecting us to pay out a fortune to repair a design defect. I looked at the newer models and the design for the water and ice dispenser is completely different. I'm retired and can not afford to have GE come out and perform repairs every 3 years.

I purchased a GE Profile Stainless Steel counter-depth refrigerator in October 2006 through Grants Appliance. In August of 2009, I noticed that it is not cooling properly and condensation is forming on the inside of the refrigerator. The temperature in the fridge is supposed to be 37 degrees. It was reading 41 to 45. The temperature on the freezer side would get up to 10 degrees. GE sent someone out on 8/25/09 to inspect. They ordered a new motherboard. On 9/2, they came back out and replaced the motherboard. The problem never got better. On 10/23, they came out and ordered a fan. On 11/4, they came out, replaced the fan, and ordered another part. They told me that my fridge maybe was too close to the wall and if I pulled it out, the temperature goes down and the problem becomes the circulation. I pulled the fridge out but no change. First thing in the morning, the temperature in the fridge was 45 degrees. In the freezer, it was 8 degrees and there was still condensation.

On 11/10, GE had me call Assurant Warranty customer relations. They set up a non-GE service for my fridge. On 11/13, Fred Appliance came out to look at it and I ordered a touchpad and mainboard. On 11/30, Fred Appliance installed these 2 parts. I left the fridge alone for 24 hours per instruction and I looked at it. On the next day, there were 44 degrees in the fridge and 10 in the freezer. I called consumer relations again and I told them that the problem was still not fixed. They called Fred Appliance on 12/3. Fred Appliance ordered another main board. On 12/14, Fred replaced the main board. On 12/16, the fridge is still not working with 42 degrees in fridge and 6 degrees in freezer. There is still condensation in the fridge. The food has molds.

On 12/17, the consumer relations called Fred Appliance and they told them that fridge is still not working. On 12/18, Fred tells GE that I need a new fridge because they can't fix. On 12/28, GE warranty service says it takes 3 to 5 business days to process the claim. I called on 1/4 and Assurant told me that Factory Service needs to tell them that I need a new fridge. I waited 20 minutes for the guy to put me through to his supervisor, got frustrated, hung up and dialed again. After 17 minutes of waiting, I told my story to yet another person who put me on hold as she reviews my case. I am losing my patience. I have been on hold again for like 10 minutes. I am typing this as I wait. I probably paid $2500 or so for this fridge in 2006. I want one that works.

On 1-11-10, I recently called Grants Appliance to find out how much the exact same fridge would cost today if I purchased it. They told me $3384.00. Assurant told me that they found me a replacement fridge that is the same as mine, which they can order it for me and have it delivered to my doorstep. Who is supposed to inspect and install this new hunk of junk? Who is going to haul away my existing refrigerator? Or they can give me a check for $1998.00. That's not even half the cost of a new refrigerator! Plus, I want to purchase an extended warranty with a new high tech fridge. How am I supposed to do that if one just gets dropped on my doorstep? I am beyond frustrated but still no resolution!

We have had Sears out 2-4 times a year every year for the same problem, the ice maker and water hose. We are very disappointed in the product that we have had to spend additional $767.90 in extended warranty coverage. Sears repair people tell us that this particular GE model breaks down very frequently to which we agree! It is broken again and we have decided not to take any more protection out on the fridge. As like many others I purchased a GE Profile side by side refrigerator in July 2004 at Lowes for $1,974.00. What a waste of money! Between Lowes setting the refrigerator in the house and leaving not hooking anything up nor taking any of the packaging off and the overall operation or should say in operation this has been a bad experience. To make things worse neither Lowes nor GE want to do anything to correct the problems and defective product. It constantly freezes anything in any of the drawers. In the summer the refrigerator part barely keeps anything cold and when you try to adjust the temp it takes about three days to get it to move and when it does everything is frozen.

The drawers broke in a variety of ways, all making them unusable, and after spending an additional $280 for new drawers they did the same thing and the ones that came with the unit so I now have two sets of broken drawers and well over $2,200 invested in a piece of junk. The ice maker is a joke along with the doors and controls. Something needs to be done as GE doesn't admit to anything but keep selling this junk and taking advantage of the consumers. As to doing anything forget it they don't want to know who you are once they close the sale.

We have a new GE built-in refrigerator. It's barely more than a year old. Last week, rather suddenly, the refrigerator started getting warmer, while the freezer compartment got colder. The refrigerator ended up hovering around 52 degrees, while the freezer is around -30. (Our ice has ice on it, if you get the idea.) We called GE customer service, and first, we're disappointed to find they work 9-5 Mon-Friday.

Secondly, the best they can do is give you a half-day window when a repair person might show up. Because of work schedules, it took us days to get something on the calendar. When the tech guy finally showed up, he spent an hour fiddling around, eventually replacing a "temperature sensor" and telling me it should normalize within 12-24 hours. It didn't; nothing changed at all, except for the refrigerator getting a few degrees warmer.

What makes this more frustrating was the subsequent calls back to GE customer service. The rep seemed pretty nonchalant about the $150 in food that was spoiled and all of the inconvenience this has caused, and she had an attitude like it's our problem that we'd need to re-arrange work again for another appointment. She did finally say she'd try to get an "emergency rep" out on Friday. My wife explicitly instructed them to call her cell. No one ever called.

When you spend $5K on a refrigerator and purchase the extra warranty, you expect more. First, you expect the product to work, not break down after a year. Second, you expect GE to treat you like a customer who has spent $5,000 on a product. That includes working weekends if necessary, so a family can store its fresh food. And on that point, they should be writing us a check for our groceries.

It's a miserable experience. Don't buy GE. They deserve to--and no doubt eventually will--go the way of the America car company.

Before I start, I want to let everyone know that I thought I had done my research, but apparently not well enough. My husband and I purchased a brand new GE side-by-side refrigerator in July, 2007. I checked reviews for the product online, and looked for just the right model. Then, we went to Home Depot, and purchased the side-by-side model with clean steel and ice maker. We purposely bought an Energy Star model to reduce our electric bill. We did not buy the extended warranty, because who needs that for a refrigerator, that should last at least 10 years for a cheap model. My parents bought a refrigerator, which lasted for almost 20 years, when I was a kid, and my grandmother had the same refrigerator for over 40. I registered the model with GE right away.

Immediately, I began receiving almost daily emails from GE, urging me to purchase the extended warranty. We considered it, because it only has a one year warranty, but as I mentioned before, it seemed like a waste of money. About 6 months ago I discovered why they push the warranty so hard. My 2 year old refrigerator began making a horrible alien sound. The sound has now progressed to include an interment grinding noise. Apparently, GE makes the refrigerators to last only as long as the warranty, because we believe the compressor is going out! Yes, you read that correctly! A two year old refrigerator is on its last leg. The best part is that our brand new GE dishwasher, which is less than 2 years old, decided to die right before Thanksgiving! I will never purchase another GE appliance again.

I don't know how we are going to afford to purchase brand new appliances again. We saved to buy the ones we have now for a year! I guess GE is making a killing on their appliances, because they must have a very high profit margin with the shoddy craftsmanship, and added bonus of extended warranty sales. All I have to say is stay away from GE Appliances. I am out almost $1,200 for the refrigerator, and about $600 for the dishwasher. I'm now hand washing all of my dishes, which is not only a pain, but it is killing my efforts to reduce water and a electric usage. This was the reason for purchasing this particular dishwasher. I don't know what we will do, when the refrigerator goes out, since we are unable to afford another one.

My mother is 87 yrs old & we went together to purchase a refrigerator from this company. I have been buying both new & used appliances from them since 1986. In fact, when I built my home in 1998, I used them for all my appliances because they were so great to deal with and stood up for their product. Having "Charlie's Warranty" on a used appliance was like gold. They came out the day you called or the next and were always friendly. The service was always excellent & we never hesitated to sing their praises to friends & strangers. Because of mom's fixed income, we went to look at a used fridge. I'd gotten a used one there last year to replace the used one I had bought from them in 1997. So we are good customers.

Normally, we deal with Joe who has been there for 20+ years but he was gone for the day. Wazir ** said that he would help us just as well as Joe. Again, we had dealt here before so we trusted that the service would be just as good. We went in the back room where the used & scratch/dent stuff are kept. They had several large and 3 small used fridges. She stated to Wazir that she did not like the prices on the scratch & dent stuff because they were too high and the other used ones were too big. Mom wanted a small one because she is alone in her house and only requires a small fridge. She chose one of the small used ones and was told it was noisy but that within 5 days if she could not live with it, they would take it back & try to find her another. This was said by Wazir ** in front of me and a woman who works in the office there.

Within a few days of having it, Mom called them about the noise because it was louder than what we heard in the showroom and they came out on a repair call. This time, she was alone in her home. Neither I nor my husband was with her. The service man told her that he couldn't fix the noise and they didn't have any more used ones. He then told her that he could sell her a new fridge and apply what she'd already paid. She agreed to get a new one and the man left. She thought she would have to go to the store & pick out what she wanted but a bit later, he came back with another, larger fridge, not in a box and not in any kind of packaging, with a booklet in his hand. There were no stickers or disclaimers or energy ratings stuck to this fridge like there would be with a new one.

When I saw it later that night, I thought it was the old one. It has scratches on the side and on the door. I suspect they gave her one of the scratch & dent models we saw there. Mom said that he just brought it to the house and when she protested its size, he told her "it would fit" and proceeded to bring it in. When I asked her why she accepted it, she told me she tried to tell the man but he wouldn't listen to her & she felt intimidated by him plus her food was thawing out all over her kitchen. I must agree; I dealt with this guy when I got my fridge and it needed repair. He is very loud & pushy and has the demeanor of someone who is in a hurry to get to the next job & you are wasting his time.

The man doing repairs is sloppy, uncouth, and difficult to talk to. Since he has been there, the service has become shoddy. I needed a part for my fridge & still haven't gotten it. Now my warranty is up and they want me to pay for a visit.

Anyway, shortly after getting the new fridge, Mom discovered that the door squealed when opened & it wasn't sealing properly. Her food was getting ice crystals on it. My mother tried to call and talk to Wazir and he told her she had to call GE, that they were the one to fix that. She called GE Warranty and they told her that on that model, they only warranted the major components and she needed someone to come and level the fridge so the door would seal properly. They advised her that the company she bought it from should do it. She then called back to Castleberry's and Wazir told her that they were not responsible for leveling the fridge, to call GE.

The people from GE took pity on her and sent someone to check it over and tried to level it for her but reminded her that this was a one-time thing. The door still squeaks like a horror movie. While talking to Mom, this Wazir was also laughing at her and treating her like a child. He made snide comments and wouldn't listen to her. This has been going on since October. Mom is old & fragile but not stupid and that's how he is making her feel. These people are now refusing her phone calls and will not try to rectify this situation. To make things worse, we were at Lowe's & saw a similar fridge with better amenities for almost $200 less than what she was charged.

Like all of the complaints seen on the web, the GE Profile is designed to fail and cost the owner thousands of dollars in repairs, let alone potential health issues caused by unknown defrosting/refreezing of food caused by the unit's inability to maintain the desired temperature. It is obvious from the postings that GE is well aware of the manufacturing problems but refuses to help the customer. There is obvious need to recall the fridge/parts as a mfr. defect can lead to salmonella poisoning and death of its owners. Failure of GE and the CDC/Consumer Protection Agency only highlights their complacency in this problem, and hints at criminal conduct.

My 4-year old Hotpoint refrigerator had quit dispensing ice, then the water stopped dispensing, the lights quit and finally it had quit cooling or freezing food. I read all the consumer complaints I could read about this issue and decided that it must be the main board in the unit as it was similar to most of all the complaints I had read. I build computers as a hobby so I am no stranger to replacing motherboards. So I borrowed the money to replace the one in my fridge. Everything is now working as it should.

I called consumer affairs at GE and made a complaint about this issue. I spoke with Linda who was nice and professional. However, I was told that since I am not a technician, nor did I call one to come diagnose the issue, that I would not receive a refund for the price of the main board. I explained to Linda that I am fighting for disability at this time and I did not have 75 cents or even $75 for a tech to diagnose the issue and that my wife and I only exist on $340 bi-weekly since I no longer am able to work. In short I was told they would do nothing about this issue and that there is not enough complaints to issue a recall on this product. I beg to differ. If there is over 100 issues with this unit in a 6-month period of time on any product made, there should be a recall issued. As a result, I will no longer buy any product from GE or its sub-brands in future purchases, and I certainly ask the public not to do so either as this is not only an issue of money but an issue of public safety as well.

The water hose got hot from just the heat from the motor and eventually became brittle and cracked in the spot that heated up. Every time I fill a glass of water now, it starts to come out cold and then there's a part of the water that's hot and then it’s cold again and once again the water started tasting bad even though I just changed the filter. If I dump out the first cup, it tastes slightly better.

My concern is about this plastic pipe that delivers this filtered water. If it’s heating up in a spot enough to make the water taste bad isn't it leaching chemicals into my drinking water? I have the original pipe that was replaced before. It is brown and burnt looking in the spot where it broke. I'm extremely concerned about this because this is the water my family is drinking. When the foam is "blown" into the freezer door it causes the water delivery tube to be pushed up against the inside plastic liner wall of the freezer door. Hence , with no insulative foam between the tube and the inside wall of the freezer door the water freezes frequently. One can remove the door, let it sit in the sun for 45 minutes, the ice melts and small chunks of ice tube size fall out. The dispenser will then work until the next day, for it freezes over night. Even appliance parts dealers know of this Manufacturer Flaw. We demand a "work-around" or a new door. From day one we had problems with the Ref. The door would not seal hence, the unit would not cool. The GE answer? Replace the door. The door was shipped to our home in a 7' tall X 4' wide wooden crate. Which we had to unload. GE showed up, unpacked it, installed it and left. We had to get rid of the crate. Wasn't part of thier job description. Anyone who has lived through this knows what is involved here, unload the fridge, re-load the fridge and this is after you have packed everything that was in it, in ice and coolers. Well, that was not the problem. It still got warm. Another call to GE and we were told it must be the gasket on the new door. One week later, a new gasket shows up packed in a box. We call GE, they tell me I can install it myself, Ya right. We called the appliance store we bought it from to install it and, come to find out, it was never leveled properly when it was installed and was racked. We thought all of our problems were over. Then the mold started. It was all over the shelves, the condiments on the door, everywhere. Another call to GE. This time we were told, #1 Our house must be dirty. #2 the unit is too close to the cooktop. The guy is lucky he got out of our house after saying that to my wife. I happened to run into a woman who lives in my town at a Home Depot. She was looking at appliances, we started talking and low and behold, she has the exact same Monogram set-up we do and, yes she had the same mold problem we did. Only difference was, GE solved her problem. I guess the fan that was installed in our units did not move enough air, they installed a bigger unit and, no more mold. When I callrd GE, I was told I did not know what I was talking about and that was crazy talk. I called our appliance store and spoke with the service manager. He looked up the part number of our fan and compared it the fan installed on newer units. Guess what? The fan was replaced with a higher CFM unit in 2007. He ordered it, installed it, no more mold. All seemed well for the last year or so until 2 days before Thanksgiving. It was warm again. We called our appliance store, they a service guy out and he told us it was a GE issue. GE said they be at our house on 11/30 between 8:00 and 5:00. They showed up at noon. Turns out we need $600.00 in parts and all the freon leaked out. Problem is, they won't be back until Monday of next week. Great! Another week with coolers. We mentioned to the GE guy that we must have a lemon. He said GE does not sell lemons. I wonder if he knew we weren't talking about the citrus kind?

I purchased a GE Profile Artica in June 2006. I've had nothing but problems with it since I got it. The issues have been mainly with the water filter. It was serviced a couple of times, however, now it is out of warranty. The water filter is not working again and cracks have started to form inside the refrigerator. When I purchased this refrigerator, I purchased it for the "GE Profile quality" that I was told was so great. And was told that it should last at least 8-10 years, which is normally how long refrigerators are good for. A GE repairman came to my house to service it the other day and it deemed it unrepairable and said it was dangerous because of the cracks in it, that someone could get hurt, which I have already cut my finger on. He called the GE Service Center while he was at my house and relayed this information to them. When a GE rep called the other day, they advised us that they would give us a new refrigerator for $750. Then my husband asked for a supervisor and she said she would drop the price down to about $450. I refuse to pay anything for this. A 3 yr old refrigerator should not be in this bad of shape, especially this brand.

My food getting freezer burn, my ice cubes disappearing in the ice tray, ice crystals in my ice cream and other foods, etc. They sent a repairman, who immediately knew what the problem was, said it was a manufacturer's defect, and replaced something in the freezer area. It worked fine until about 6 months ago (4 years later), when it started doing the same thing to my food. Everything smells like freezer burn, and I can't keep anything in there or use anything because of the poor taste and smell. Yesterday, I had arranged for a repairman to come, thinking he would just replace the same part that was replaced 4 years ago. But nooooo.... he calls a "tech line", and tells them my problems, and they tell him to tell me to "rewrap my food" when I bring it home from the store. That was all they intended to do. No repair, nothing. The repairman leaves. And I'm still stuck with a refrigerator/freezer that smells up and wastes my food. After calling the Customer Service line, they tell me that the "tech person" knows what to tell the repairman, and that there is nothing else they can do.

The representative told me that there would be no charge as the refrigerator was less than five years old. But when the technician came to my home she said it would be $289.00 to repair my refrigerator. I was dismayed and upset at their deception. I am a retired senior and certainly didn't have the money. I had to pay the G. E. technician $91.00 including tax for coming to my home. This is an exorbitant price for a service charge. I would certainly question the ethics of this amount to charge consumers. I would not have had them there if they had been honest when I called them. At least I wouldn't have had to give them a gift of $91.00 which I couldn't afford. If G. E. purports that that they did not withhold information possibly to get me to use the service it will be outright false. When I questioned the technician about the bad information she was defensive and quickly said if it were the compressor there would not be charges.

I had purchased my GE Monogram refridgerator 2004. Within 2 years of my purchase we started having issues with cool air leakage from the freezer. We called, and scheduled a technician to come out and make some adjustments to the freezer door.
August 24, 2009, we went on vacation for 5 days, we arrived home on August 29th and the fridge stopped working and all the food was spoiled. We called and scheduled a service call for September 1st. The temperature kept rising and for fear of fire, I shut the fridge off. September 1st, the technician came and was rude. He told me I should never have shut off the fridge and now he will not be able to diagnose the problem. If this was such an issue, when scheduling the service call, the customer service representative should have told me not to shut off the fridge. I told him no one told me not to shut it off, and his response was, well no one told you to shut it off. I scheduled another service call for September 4th. The technician came and told me a part had to be ordered and another service call will need to be rescheduled, and it would require 2 technicians. September 11th, the two technicians came and told me the wrong parts were order and other parts will need to be ordered. September 18th, parts were replaced. October 9th, fridge stopped working and another service call was made. October 16th, the technician from September 4th came back, and said the original part that he had ordered was not replaced. I told him, the two technicians that came said it was the wrong part. He reordered the part and told me he had scheduled for two technicians to come on Thursday, October 29th. My husband stayed home, and no one showed up. He called customer service, and they told him we were on the books for October 30th. October 30th, only one technician showed up and again said the part that was order was wrong. He also stated that he would need another technician to come in to help him. He scheduled for November 2nd and my husband expressed how both of us work and what time did the technician think they would come on November 2nd. The technician had stated we were not going to be the first in line; therefore, around 11:00 am. November 2nd, my husband leaves work and arrives home at 10:15, where he sees a note stating the technicians had came but left because no one was home. My husband calls Customer Service and they said we would have to reschedule the appointment. I proceed to call, because I am so frustrated at this time. I had asked to speak with a supervisor and the customer service representative proceeds to say she is the supervisor. I told her, never had I called GE customer service and a supervisor would answer the phone. She proceeds to put me on hold, in which she never comes back on the line. I had to hang up and recall. The customer service representatives and technicians appear to be unconcern with their job security, obviously they think GE is such a large organization and they don't need to fear for their jobs. I am extremely frustrated, and something needs to be done about these people that are employed by GE. I will never recommend GE products to anyone.

I bought the latest, greatest GE Profile refrigerator from Sears during Feb. 2008. From the moment it arrived, we began having problems with the ice maker. Sears came out and replaced the ice maker once, but the technician told me then that that visit was his first time ever to see our model of refrigerator, much less work on one. Problems continued with the ice maker. The tray holding the ice cube bucket continued scraping and dropping metal particles into the bucket with each pull. And one can't get ice out without pulling the tray. Another aggravating inconvenience is that the ice makes can't shut itself off when the bucket is full due to a poorly designed system. Of course, by the time we requested help form Sears again, we were told the warranty had expired less than a month earlier, so they wouldn't do anything. After much negotiation with Sears and GE, finally GE agreed to pay half of the repair expense. Paying anything seemed unjust, but it was better than nothing. However, six months later, we still have the same problem with an overflowing ice maker that can't shut itself off and metal particles still dropping in the bucket. At the time the second repairman made repairs, he validated my suspicion that the design was simply bad. The second problem that has forced me to publicly scream my complaint about GE Profile refrigerators is the design of the shelves in the door. I have to keep my shelves taped into place because with normal pull to open the door, the plastic shelf falls off and jars fall to the floor. My third jar of mayonnaise broke just 5 minutes ago! And this one had never been opened. I'm sick of this less than two year old refrigerator, and I can promise that I will never buy another GE refrigerator as long as I live. And trust me, with the longevity built into refrigerators these days, I will be buying several more in my lifetime.

My GE Profile top-of-the-line counterdepth refrigerator started acting up with machine gun-like noises before the first year was up. Since it was intermittant we didn't call for service then, but decided to take an extended warranty, a step we never take. Soon the noise got worse and a technician came to fix it. A few months later, the noise reoccurred and he came again to do the repair on the same problem. This time it was fixed. That was just the beginning. In the 3 years we've had the refrigerator, costing us $3,000, we have had the temperature fail at least 3 times, with main compartment temperature going up to 85 degrees. After 2 repairs and a diagnosis of the main motherboard failure, he deemed it a faulty light switch which kept the light on even when the door was closed. Our ice maker has never worked properly and has been replaced to no avail. The few ice cubes we get melt, drip, stick together and shut off the ice maker before there is enough to fill a pitcher for iced tea. We have had the door gasket replaced twice, the thermostat adjusted, the icemaker itself replaced, a loose wire never connected fixed. After all that, the temp. in the frewezer went up to 22 degrees overnight and we had to throw out all the food.
A refrigerator is an appliance that a person must be able to rely on. We cannot go away even overnight without worrying about our food. I can't keep too much expensive food in the freezer. More than once or twice we have had to pack up the contents of the fridge and freezer and distribute it to neighbors, etc. GE has told me that if a tech deems it unrepairable they would replace it. Well, the same tech who has been here about a dozen times did that, but GE must now report it to the extended warranty claims department and they refuse to do it. They say since it is under an extended warranty (purchased from GE), they aren't responsible. The warranty company cannot replace an appliance they don't have. I cannot get anywhere because they keep passing me back and forth blaming each other. I am still without a reliable refrigerator. I have been a GE customer for 40 years. NEVER, EVER will I purchase any GE appliance again. Despite what they say, GE DOESN'T CARE!!!

As well, even though we have been asking nonstop to get the problem fixed, SEARS said it is now too late to get it replaced. More of the same. I purchased a GE profile 2 1/2 years ago. This past August, I woke up to find my refrigerator temp. to be 47 degrees. I did not take out an extended warranty with GE but had one with PSE&G. Took them two weeks to replace the fan which they said caused the problem. The fan worked for three months then the same thing happened, the refrigerator would not keep cold. Called PSE&G again, they told me it was a problem with the sealed refrigeration system. Since that is covered under our five year warranty, I called GE to come to fix it. A repairman shows up only to tell me that it is NOT the sealed system, rather it is a defect in this model which GE knew about and that I need an "ICE CAP" and a new assembly with fan. I called PSE&G to ask if they covered this and they said they never heard of an ice cap and that it is probably not covered. GE wants to charge me close to $600 to repair this. I have been without a refrigerator for two weeks now and still have no answer as to what the problem really is. It would not surprise me if GE is lying because they want to charge me. As it is, they insisted I pay $100 just for them to walk into my door. I refused to pay and told them to please sue me. I would welcome seeing them in Court at their expense. I find it disgusting that GE knows of a defect in their refrigerators, yet allows their consumers to purchase the product without even attempting to notify the consumer of the defect and repair it free of charge. And what really ticks me off is that it is the same problem, the coils in the back of the fridge keeps freezing into a block of ice and the fridge won't keep cool. This refrigerator is the worst piece of junk I have ever owned.

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator on July 20, 2006 from Lowe's Home Center in Murfreesboro, TN. We paid $1962.63 for it. We purchased a one year extended warranty contract for an additional $67.12 that expired on 7/26/2008. One year later we noticed the temperature was slowing rising on the freezer. I felt the outside of the box and it was exteremely hot, prompting me to turn it off so as not to burn my house down. I initially thought it would be some kind of cooling issue with the unit. After talking MANY times to GE as well as Lowes, I came to the conclusion that they were unwilling to give me any concessions on having it fixed. After the third day of not having use of my refrigerator, I began making calls to service companys trying to determine what might be wrong with the unit. I finally narrowed it down to a bad condenser fan or a bad ASM main control board. It turned out to be the latter, which cost me $273.22. I called the Manager at the Lowes store to let him know what it ended up being and he graciously offered to split the cost of the repair. I then called GE Consumer Relations (joke) to let them know and find out if they would do anything further since this unit is only THREE years old. They took my complaint and said there would not be any further follow-up. I am extemely displeased with this type of customer service as well as how they do not ,first of all, build a product that's reliable and then do not back up their product. Also, trying to get warranty work done was a complete joke. I was told there was not factory service technicians within 50 miles of my house or in the Nashville, TN area for that matter. I also just found out from the service man that a small plastic piece, approximately 2 inches long that helps keep the door closed, that broke off one of the doors several months ago for no apparent reason cannot be replaced. The entire door has to be replaced at the cost of $600. Again, more proof of a cheaply made, inferior product that costs a lot of money. We will not be buying anymore GE products with this kind of customer service/care. GE does not have any concern for the customer, only making the sale.

Our GE side by side is exactly 5 years old. 2 years ago, several pieces of the plastic spiral part that skewers the ice into the opening broke without our knowledge. A piece ended up in my drinking glass (I couldn't see it because it was clear). I almost swallowed it. We had to replace that piece. This week another clear plastic component of the freezer broke into several pieces and once again, one of the pieces ended up in my drinking glass. Fortunatly, this time I didn't swallow it and it ended up in our garbage disposal. Is this safe?? I could have easily swallowed both pieces and choked. After the second time, that is it. Something has to be done. What if this had been a child? And what is going to break next?

Food in our fridge started freezing at the end of August. Our frdge was purchased in May 08 with absolutely no problems until August. I called Sears service to have a technician come and repair it. We have now had 3 different techs in and the fridge is still reading 30 degrees and food is still freezing. The tempature panel reads 40 deg for the fridge and 6 degrees for the freezer. We put our own thermometer in the fridge and it reads 30 degrees. Everytime I call the service number I have to go through the same old BS as to what the problem is and then I'm told that it will be 2 weeks before they can come and I have said that is not good enough and so then I get put on a priority call list. The other day I had to call Sears to find out what day the tech was supposed to be coming. VERY FRUSTRATING!! The customer service side of things have really gone down hill. I left work yesterday to be home between 11 & 1 for him to came and replace another part. Isn't it 3 times the charm and all should be working - well not in this case. And why can't the same service person come back after the first call, why do we get 3 different ones. We have decided not to purchase appliances from Sears again but after reading all of the GE complaints I don't think I will by a GE product again. GE should get there act together or they may find themselves out of business, people talk and if they are having problems with something they will not recommend that product to their friends.

We bought a new home in June 2006 that had all GE appliances in it. Since then the range has already ceased baking and had to have the bottom element replaced.
The refrigerator is a 23 cu ft side by side with digital controls on the front. As many others have complained, things freeze in the back of the box and produce doesn't keep well at all. When adjusting the temperature controls, they seem to get off without touching them. You take ice cream out and can barely scoop it only to find the temp is now like -5 degrees instead of zero. The ice maker has ice cubes and crushed ice on the buttons, but the refrigerator gives you mostly whole ice cubes when you press crushed. I have checked the ice maker device that is supposed to crush the ice, and it is intact, so it is a design defect. We have had other refrigerators like Westinghouse, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, and Amana and all have worked without any problems whatsoever. the water delivery tube also barely delivers a trickle of water. We have changed the filter regularly, but it has been this way almost since we first starting using the refrigerator.

I have owned this appliance for 2 years 10 months and the circuit board fried on it yesterday for no apparent reason. This is just the topping on the cake as far as performance goes for this machine. The first month I had the thing a piece broke off of the Ice Maker - hard to tell what it did or what its function was, but I think it had to do with the definition of individual ice cubes, because the ice comes out in one big chunk now. The next thing that broke was the crisper drawer holder. The drawer now sits cock-eyed because there is nothing to hold the drawer in place - so much for fresh and crisp. The third thing that popped off and hit me in the head was the door latch that insures the fridge door stays closed (that was about a month ago) and lastly the door handle is loose and there is no apparent way to fix it. Of course, at this point the only thing that is warrantied is the compressor and cooling parts, but the compressor and cooling do not work without the main circuit board - go figure. The only thing that functions at this time is the light bulb inside the fridge. This is the most expensive piece of junk I have ever purchased.
The Microwave is another issue. I tried to change the light bulb and it blew out the circuit board for the fan and light. The repair man said it would be cheaper to purchase a whole new unit than replace parts. I bought the Microwave around the same time as the stove and fridge. I am just waiting for the mother board on the stove to go. That would make it 3 in 3. When I talked to the repair man this morning he said he had replaced 3 of these circuit boards in the past week. So if that is not an indication as to negligence (or is the proper term Ineptness) on GE's part, I do not know what is.

july 4th i noticed that my ge refrigerator was no longer working. nothing was cold. i called the ge repair help line the next day. they could not send anyone until july 7th tuesday. in the mean time i lost over $500.00 in food. this was the 3rd time that i had called ge for repairs on the refrigerator. the refrigerator is only 7 years old. i too had made 4 repairs, so every year there has been a repair of some type on the refrigerator. the gentleman came out and fixed the refrigerator. $50.00 an hour for his service, $107.00 for the part and $93.00 for three water filters that i purchased through the repair man. i decided to send an email to ge to explain all of this and to let them know that i have been having problems with the refrigerator ever since i purchased it. a representative called me about a week later. she said that they would reimburse the amount for the parts but not his service. i was fine with that. i asked how much. she said $200.00. the total of his service with the patrt and water filters was a little over $300.00. about two weeks later i get a check in the mail for $107.00. i called ge immediately to ask why. i was told $200.00. they said the $107.00 is for the part. the other $93.00 was for the water filters. i did receive the water filters but never opened the box. i asked her may i return the water filters. she checked with her supervisor and said as long as i have not had them for over 30 days, i could. she set it up for fedex to call me to come out and pick up the box and a check would arrive soon for $93.00. three weeks later neither showed up. i called ge back. they said that my case was closed that they sent the $107.00 and that was all i would get. i asked to speak to someone else. they transferred me to another help desk. the lady(rochelle) there was very nice and i explained the whole situation. she said that she could process the refund for me that first fedex has to pick up the box. she went ahead to set it up. she said that someone from fedex would call me in 10 business days if not to call her back. three weeks later again nothing. i called back on sep.22nd and spoke to a very rude lady that said to stop calling because ge was not going to do any thing further. this case was closed. i asked to speak to her supervisor. the supervisor said the same thing. she said we cannot refund something that you did not pay for. i said what are you talking about. i did pay for the water filters in full. i asked to speak to her manager. a gentleman called on the same day. i had to explain everything all over again. how i have been told several times that i would get a refund of $93.00 for the water filters and fedex would come out to pick up the box but neither has happened. i told him i was getting two different stories. i am being told i would get a refund and then ge reneges on their promises. this has been going on since around july 13th. nothing has been resolved. the manager said he would call me back he wanted to do research. as of today i have not heard back from him.

I called for service around June, explained the problem and they sent someone out that week. He ordered some parts and the following week another serviceman came to install them. He explained to me that the fluctuation in temperature was normal and because I was blocking an air vent on the top shelf, the compressor was running on. He said to keep nothing in front of the vent and it would be fine. As far as food freezing in the back of the refrigerator, he said that was normal as well. He advised that I keep nothing in the back. So basically, nothing was fixed.

GE told me that they could only work on it on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and could only guarantee the service tech to arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. They refused to lock it down to morning or afternoon. When I asked them to have the tech call me and let me know what his schedule looked like they told me that this was not possible, because I jsut dont understand. Consequently, I had to take the whole day off work ($300) pay. He did not show up until 4:55 p.m. which meant that I would not have had to take any time off work at all. Two days later it was still frosting over and I called them again. They gave me the same story; Nothing we can do. We can only promise he will be there between 8 and 5. They were not willing to contact the service tech and have him call me and told me that I did not understand their process. No explanation could be provided, so I assume they dont know their own process. It is now 3:20 and I have not heard from them yet today. I have however taken the whole day off work and would not have had to do so, again. It has now cost me $600 in time off that would not have been at all necessary. Simply because GE does not understand customer service. They are willing to scarifice the convenience of their customers to that of their service techs. I will never buy another GE appliance for as long as I live, and I will never call them again. In todays economy, it is hard to believe that they are in such high demand that they dont give a damn about their customers. Well, I dont give a damn about GE any more either. The repairman was able to bend them back and thought it might work for awhile that way. The $65 service call got it to work for about 5 minutes. On June 27, 2009, my GE Monogram refrigerator (model ZISS420DRBS, S/N RG031909) stopped cooling. Since then, I have had approximately 15 visits to my home by at least 6 different technicians, one of which was the lead technician. During this time, I have had 2 compressors, 2 evaporators, 2 Icing Units, all the copper tubing and the main system board replaced. Each time a part is replaced (with the exception of the 1st evaporator that didn't work at all after 4 hours spent installing it), the fridge worked for a few days to just over a week. It has been been just over a week since the last part was replaced and the fridge again is showing the same symptoms; it cools for several hours, then stops cooling for several hours, and is impossible to know when it might be cooling or not. The technician scheduled to come today, came during a time that the fridge was cooling. When he called the engineers for instructions, as they always do, he was told to do nothing since it happened to be working now. They suggested I call Customer relations, who I have been less than successful with in the many calls I have made to them so far. The tech left. I did call Customer Relations and was told the same thing. Even after going on 3 months now, GE does not seem to see the urgency in getting my refrigerator fixed or replaced. I now have to wait likely 2 weeks to get their lead tech to come out again to look at it. This tech only works 1 day a week and I am unfortunately not available that day this week.
In addition, techs carry no parts. When a part is needed they are ordered and shipped ground and new appointments are scheduled for no sooner than 1 week later. I have been somewhat successful in getting some parts shipped overnight, but they will not schedule appointments until the parts arrive, so 1-2 days is the minimum wait in these cases. The quality of the packaging is horrendous. I have pictures of several parts as they arrived at my home. The worst being the 1st evaporator that never worked after the 4 hour install. The part arrived wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap inside a box 3 times the size of the part with no additional packing to protect it. The box it was in was smashed in by a second box with other parts strapped to it. Finally, Customer Relations is generally useless, but also the only place anyone will tell you to go for help. I have been rude to, hung up on and refused escalation to supervisor or manager. I have been told on numerous occasions when asked to speak to someone with more authority that there is no one with more authority and that the person I was speaking with was the manager - it seems they are all the manager with no supervision.

Anyway, on 9-9-09, our ice dispenser stopped making ice and the water stopped working. Water leaked on our hardwood floors. I spent hours trying to keep the floor dry so it wouldn't get ruined. By 9-10-09, my husband and I get home from work and find our entire fridge and freezer hot with spoiled food inside. I had just stocked up on frozen food and groceries for 2 weeks, so about $300 worth of food was ruined. GE was ok. The control board and fan are out, just like everyone else's. This problem is so common they have a program for it. I guess I shouldn't complain, as they were sending it to me for free, though I do have to pay the technician $150 to repair it. As for the food, GE offered me $100 in food reimbursement. I guess it is my fault I didn't use my psychic powers and chose to stock up on a freezer full of frozen items at the wrong time. As far as my fridge, this part was expected to arrive at my house in 5-7 days, THEN I would schedule with a technician. I told their customer service that with two kids and family coming, that being without a refrigerator and freezer in the SUMMER for up to two weeks was unacceptable. I demanded that they pay for a small dorm size fridge to keep at least milk and lunch meats cold. Working in public health, there are a plethora of food borne illnesses you can get from food not stored properly. I told GE that living out of an ice chest for two weeks wasn't my idea of reasonable. Finally, they promised to ship my parts same day air. Now, today is 9-12-09. Saturday. Even if I can get the part and the technician here on Monday, that is 3.5 days with no refrigerator. I am 34 years old. I have a lifetime to buy products left in me. I have family, friends, and coworkers who will be buying products as well. I can honestly say that GE products are not only a waste of money, they are a waste of time. The time you spend wiping up floors, cleaning rotted food out of fridges, rewashing dishes the dishwasher didn't clean, etc will be a waste. I can't even say you get what you pay for, because I paid a LOT for these products.....and they were rated highly by consumer reports when I purhased them in 2005.

We've owned GE Profile refrigerator (model PSS26PSWA SS) for two years and have had a few icemaker issues from the start - ice cube maker tray falling out of alignment causing water to pour into the collection bucket and freezing the cubes together. Well, the most recent icemaker issue is that the dispenser will be slow to push ice out the door, then after a few seconds, seizes up and will not operate, though an electric buzz can be heard. We called out the GE serviceman (at $99 just to show up, mind you) and he looked at it and ordered us a part, a clear plastic cup at the back of the mechanism that had become chewed up. He insisted it was a cinch to install and recommended we replace it ourselves.

Well, the part arrived and I simply could not separate the plastic part holding the auger and blade mechanism, so I took the entire assembly to authorized GE service dealer this morning and they installed the little cup. Great, I came home, placed the tray into the freezer and dispensed 1/2 a glass of ice before hearing the same seizing up and then nothing. Looking inside, I saw that the same little cup that we just replaced had been destroyed again by the icemaker. The plastic shards were deposited into the ice receptacle, mixed with the ice cubes. Great. What now, another service call? Buyer, please consider brands that do not use this type of icemaker as there is likely an inherent flaw with the design. Beware!

The ice maker on my GE refrigerator stopped delivering ice. I removed the tray to discover a large chunk of plastic lodged at the back end. Thank God it did not dispense into one of our cups and choke us to death! GE must fix this problem before someone chokes to death. Do they not value their long-standing reputation or their customer base? We replaced the unit for $145. I discovered the problem before it caused physical harm to my family.

I own a side by side model number GSS25KSTE SS. I would say, in general, this is a well made refrigerator (although I was surprised it is made in Mexico). The up side is that all of the refrigerator parts are well made and appear as if they will last a long time. It's a nice looking unit. The down side is that the ice maker (door type) is the biggest piece of junk ever made. It literally takes more than 40 seconds to fill a small glass with ice. And then the ice maker gets stuck all of the time which means you have to open everything up and unjam it somehow. For some odd reason, the engineers at GE designed the ice container in the freezer to tilt away from the door opening which means it takes forever for ice (if there is any ice in the container) to actually get into your glass. I can tell GE now that I will never ever buy another GE product as long as I live. They should be ashamed to put out an ice maker that is so untested. I would love to get my money back on this thing but I know there is no chance for that. Buyer beware.

I have a GE Side by Side Refrigerator model GSS25JFMCWW that I purchased in 1992. The motherboard fails on it every 16 months or so. After a lot of trying, I talked to someone at GE today. They said they'd give me $400 off a new refrigerator, and that I have 30 days to take them up on it. The answer is a flat no. The catch is that you have to purchase it on their www.geappliances.com website. You can buy the same refrigerator for a lot less in stores. So, their offer isn't worth the effort. Plus I'd end up with another GE. Do not, by any means, purchase any GE appliance. They are very unreliable. Further, GE does not stand behind their products.

The same part in my refrigerator failed three times. I also have evidence that during the period, GE knew that the problem was systemic. As an engineer, it seems to me that they easily could have re-engineered the part and come up with a fix. Since the same part for my refrigerator keeps failing, it is obvious that they just like selling parts that are doomed to failure. They deserve to go out of business due to a lack of goodwill amongst their customer base. If you are not a customer of GE yet, I strongly suggest that you do not become one. I will never purchase another GE appliance.

It's frightening to see all the complaints about the GE Profile refrigerator and in particular, problems with the temp control. Ours has gone up and down wildly on a number of occasions. I, too, have the extended warranty. I thought that when the temp control problem started just 18 months after purchase, that it would be repaired. I was wrong. GE has been out five times to fix it and it has not worked. It's pretty clear that the technicians don't know what to do, yet GE refuses to acknowledge this and offer a new fridge. On my last service call, the technician didn't even show up and when I called the service center, I had to leave a message. I've left several and no one has called back. I just scheduled yet another repair through GE and wrote a letter to the head of customer relations.

When I spoke to GE last time, I asked the representative whether they would take their car back to the same garage five times to fix the same problem. She, of course, answered "Yes, I would." This is the level of stupidity we have to endure from a giant company that clearly refuses to fix its mistakes. Don't buy the GE Profile refrigerator or any GE products for that matter. You'll regret it!

When we purchased our fridge, we bought the extended warranty. Since 30 August 2008, we have had 9 service visits for the same problem. Everything has been replaced from the fan to the motherboard. The vent in the fridge freezes and therefore, the sensor senses that the fridge is too cold. From there, the fridge runs constantly trying to warm the fridge, and thus spoils the entire contents of the fridge. Our contract states that the repairman can deem the appliance unrepairable; we are to be compensated or the fridge replaces. Each repairman ends up arguing with the company and they make him replace a part. We are now replacing things for a second time. I feel they are in breach of the contract, and that we have a lemon of a fridge.

The refrigerator (ice and water) stopped working for the same reason. The dishwasher has done this four times and has had to have the electronic chip replaced each time. In fact all 3 are down now and waiting for service. I use my appliances so seldom since I live alone, work all day and seldom cook. I am just fed up with this. What can be done about this issue? I have been forced to eat out most nights and when I do cook, to wash dishes by hand and purchase bottled water and ice.

On 7/27/07, Friday evening, the ice maker was not working and water was not coming into the ice maker. Also the fridge was down and hot inside. We lost $166 worth of food in the fridge and freezer. GE covered only $100 worth. Repairman showed up on 8/7/07 and replaced a board assembly at the rear of fridge, and an interface board inside of the front of the fridge for a total of $236.61 + labor covered under warranty.

We were so nervous about this new fridge we took out an extended warranty to 2011. On August 22, 2009, we opened up our fridge in the a.m. and everything in the fridge was spoiled a second time. The temp dial said it was 88 degrees inside. I took pictures of this dial & food loss to show the temp. Repair man came on August 24 to repair. He replaced the same board assembly again and the light switch in the door. This time, parts were $204.80, labor, $210.93, for total of $415.73. Thank God we took out an extended warranty. I would not recommend the GE Profile to anyone. Now, I have to see what they will give me for my food loss.

I bought my GE Profile in July 2006. It stopped cooling the fridge part recently and when the repairman came out, he said it was the master board and replaced it so the fan now works. After he left, I noticed that the ounce dispenser no longer registered the ounces if you used the water dispenser. Although the temperature went down to the 30's as evidenced by 2 thermometers in the refrigerator part, the degrees on the top panel did not. Another repairman came out a few days later and when I pointed out that the problem’s still there before he left, he fluffed me off as if I were a complete idiot. Now, I have been blackballed and am wasting my time waiting for a repairman who came out later and ordered some parts since the 2nd guy refuses to come out and he does my district. This mess has been going on for over 2 weeks.

In the meantime, my husband and son who are both engineers have studied up on the workings of these refrigerators and it is pretty clear that they are sending out people who do not have any clue as to how to fix them. Finally, after calling and calling another person is supposed to come out on Thursday pm. By the way, in the course of these repair attempts, we found out our water dispenser never worked right from the very start. Fortunately, we did not have to ditch too much food as my husband thought of putting the thermometers in to check the temp. The repairman told us that they could not possibly be correct. Only his was. Ha!

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator in February 2008. Since that time, it has been repaired 4 times. The first problem (6 months after purchase) was with the connector to the water line. (It took 2 weeks for repair.) My kitchen was flooded. GE was called directly, as listed in the manual. The GE repairman at first tried to deny that there was a defective part and claimed it was the filter. My insurance claims adjuster sent the part to an independent lab, and it was found defective. The insurance company subrogated against GE. My company then had to have the part sent to GE's lab.

The second problem occurred on December 23, 2008, and it took 31 days for the repair to be completed. All of the food was spoiled, and it was really fun not having a refrigerator when I had out-of-town guests for the holidays. The repair was rescheduled several times for various reasons (None initiated by me.), and the repairman, who finally did the work, was obnoxious and unreliable. I finally was able to find that the repairman did not order the parts from the main supplier, and I ended up having several stressful conversations with GE and they sent me the parts. No one ever figured out why the repairman never received the parts. After letters and phone conversations with Consumer Relations, the last person I spoke with led me to believe that my warranty was being extended for another year. I had to fax all of my purchase information.

The third problem occurred in July 2009. This time, I contacted Sears directly. I was informed that my warranty for certain parts had expired, and I was offered the opportunity to purchase a repair warranty. I did so. There was a problem with the fan again. Parts had to be ordered, but the repair was completed in a reasonable amount of time. I talked to a representative at the store where I purchased the refrigerator and was told that it was too bad I hadn't called Sears the first time I had a problem. Somehow, there is no connection between GE repair and repair done by Sears. I was led to believe that I may have gotten a new appliance if I had first contacted Sears.

Today, August 25, I have spoiled food again! There is ice build-up inside the drawers just as before, so I suspect it is the fan again! Also, the flap on the ice dispenser does not close right away, so sometimes that causes ice to remain in the chute and then melt. Sears Repair will come tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have new GE microwave, double-oven stove, and dishwasher. GE doesn't care that I am a good customer. I will never buy another GE appliance, nor will any of my friends!

We realized that our refrigerator is only cooling to 60 degrees and the food was thawing out in the freezer. We called the number on the extended warranty and everyone kept passing the buck. Then, we called the store itself.

Even Andy who is supposed to be the best in Customer Care there basically blew me off. GE scheduled us for repair on 8/26. Then, Reuben set us up for 8/24. We had emails for the 26th repair and then a cancellation for the 26th because they set us up for the 24th. I purchased a new GE Profile refrigerator in 09/06. In 02/09, it was not cooling properly and I contacted GE service. When they came out, it was the fan; and because it is controlled by the main control board, it was necessary to replace that board. Part cost was $110.00, and labor was $160.15. This was not covered under any warranty.

In July, a coworker had the same problem with their GE Profile. After the repair, he called the GE Service Center; and they offered to reimburse him the cost of the part. I called and asked about reimbursement on mine. One service representative told me my model was not on the "list." Apparently, GE is aware of this problem with refrigerators manufactured at a certain plant. I again called and spoke with another representative, inquiring about how they can only select certain models when it is apparent this is a problem across all of the GE Profiles. She said, "We had to draw the line somewhere." I feel discriminated against and think GE should be replacing the cost of this main control board on any refrigerator that has the problem within a certain time frame.

Since this started, I now know of 4 people who had this issue. I think GE should be investigated as to the magnitude of this problem and required to reimburse all owners who encountered this problem within 5 years of their purchase. They also do not tell you about the refund program, you only find out by complaining. Please contact me if you need additional information.

Finally, I called for service and the control board was replaced, but the machine still did not work. Days later it was determined that the compressor and evaporator needed to be replaced and parts were ordered. A week later the compressor arrived, but there’s no evaporator. Another week and the evaporator arrived and the parts were installed. Still, the refrigerator would not work. Three days later, GE did agree to replace the refrigerator.

We have liked this refrigerator very much and were most disappointed when it failed. The service was good, even though the problem was not fixed. Our only complaint was the evaporator not being in stock when we ordered. And we were very disappointed that this unit failed after two years when we have a GE in the basement that is at least 30 years old and working perfectly. We think GE did all they could to resolve our problem. They offered to pay for a rental refrigerator or purchase a small apartment refrigerator to get us by while the problem was being fixed. And after all service failed, they replaced the refrigerator. We were not happy that we were out of our refrigerator for about three weeks, but in the end we really cannot complain.

We purchased a 5-year warranty at the same time, so all service would be covered until 2012. The ice maker has never functioned properly and goes totally empty at least twice a week. I have had the repair man out 7 times in the last 2 months. It works for a couple of days then stops again. They have totally replaced the ice maker at least 2 times. So it is obvious it will never function properly.

I talked with tech number 5 yesterday who was scheduled to come between 1 and 5PM. He called and said he refused to come as our ice maker was functioning normally for its design but does have a design flaw. The ice maker drawer tilts down in the back causing the ice to sit in the back and kick the arm up. He stated there is no way to fix the design flaw. Consequently, I need to climb up on a chair and push the ice forward several times a day.

I am 65 and have 2 knee replacements. Climbing up on a chair is very hazardous, as I could easily fall and cause a serious injury, most likely a broken hip. I also have osteopenia according to my last bone scan. I have osteoarthritis, which resulted in both of my knee replacements. I use ice frequently as a treatment for the arthritic pain that I continue to have from the disease process. I have been an ER RN for 24 years, so I am very familiar with the hazards of falls to the elderly.

Tech number 5 told me that several of his other customers had the same ice maker. They also had the same unresolved problem. He also stated that GE was aware of the design flaw. Since the ice maker cannot be fixed and GE knowingly sold me a refrigerator with a design flaw, I would like them to replace it with one that does not tilt downward in the back, kicking the arm up so it then thinks it is full of ice. They have refused to do this, and the service man is now refusing to come out when the appliance is still under warranty. I would also like to prevent GE from knowingly selling defective ice makers to the innocent elderly population, who are not able to safely climb up on chairs day in and day out when a functioning ice maker was paid for.

I was told that I needed a new condenser fan motor and replaced the start unit for the compressor. I paid $430.00 but was never told how much the labor was because it is not broken down on the receipt. I then noticed about 3 months later that the sides of the whole refrigerator would get very hot and the replaced fan was not going on at all - but the refrigerator and freezer were working properly.

I finally contacted them and they returned on July 13, 2009. I was told it was the condenser fan but I would have to pay for the labor once again. To my dismay, it was going to be yet another $200.00 so I agreed - but not happy. I wrote him a check and he left. But 5 minutes after he left, the entire refrigerator and microwave turned off. So he returned and we couldn't get the breaker for it to stay on. So he then proceeds to tell my husband and I that the motor just burned up and the whole unit is now broken; thus, we need a new motor.

So we asked how it was working, just hot on the outside, and now it won't work at all? He said, "I don't know, that's too bad" and just gave us our $200.00 check back leaving us with no refrigerator at all and left. He then tried to take our copy of the receipt but we did not give it to him. I then had an outside company who said he mis-wired the unit and by doing that, grounded out the motor. So I called the company and they said that there wasn't anything they could do and besides, they did us a favor by putting a new unit anyway because it was after all 4 months old!

I purchased a GE bottom freezer refrigerator model #PFS22MISBBB serial #AL041781 in 2006. Within the first 3 months, the freezer compartment was very hot to the touch, around the frame and the temperature dropped all the way to 36. They came out and changed the board. The same thing happened again the first week of July 2009; they came out and changed the board for the second time. Now it is very rarely that the freezer and refrigerator are at the correct temperature. The default temp is 0-37. I can come home from work and open the fridge and the temp will read 3-35 or -1-37 etc.

I paid a lot of money for this product and it's not fair. It's only 3 years old and I have to worry when the next time it's going to fail! Because of the temp flux, my food has moisture in the packaging. The food in the freezer has crystals all over it. The story the repairmen tell is they are constantly improving the boards. My warranty is up in 2011, then what? I have to pay out of pocket to fix a problem that they know exists and will be ongoing for the life of the refrigerator. Reading on your website, I am not the only one with this problem. There should be a recall! I shouldn't have to worry about the performance of my brand new appliance. GE needs to be accountable for crappy workmanship. In this day and age, consumers should not have to put up with this. It's robbery! Please, do the right thing!

The following dissertation is a letter that I sent to GE to explain my problem with their fridge. This should satisfy your question of what happened without rewriting the same information. My only response from GE was that they were sorry to hear about our "unfortunate experience."

This letter is to voice my complaints about a GE PROFILE 22-cubic foot fridge that we purchased approximately 3 1/2 years ago. This unit suddenly quit working, so we had to contact your representative to determine the process and the cost to have it repaired. We were advised that the fan had failed, causing the compressor to quit working; thus, the failure to operate.

We were also advised that the failure of the fan took out the temperature display and a computer board that was needed to operate the fridge. The cost to repair this (None of which was covered by warranty.) would be $750.00 (tax included). Your repairman representative also stated that if I could introduce a fan, the fridge could run indefinitely while waiting for the repairs to be made.

I purchased a small fan and directed it at the appropriate area to keep the compressor cool enough, so that we would at least have a working fridge while we waited for repairs. However, the compressor would only run for about 8 hours before quitting. We found that it would need about 24 hours before it would again work for about 8 hours. This was happening in spite of the area being cooled by a continuous fan, thus suggesting that the compressor would also need to be replaced.

After only 3 1/2 years of operation, it is totally unacceptable to be faced with a repair bill of approximately $1000 to repair a fridge costing approximately twice that amount. As a result, we felt we were forced to scrap your product (Our concern from our experience was that the repair would likely fail again in a similar time span.) and replace it with a new fridge.

It's pretty obvious that we would not consider a GE product again, so we purchased a different fridge. As we couldn't afford to be paying the retail price to replace the unit with one having similar features, we had to settle for a smaller, less expensive fridge with less features to replace your product. I find it really hard to believe that a company as large as yours would allow a design flaw that would allow the failure of a $25.00 part to destroy $500.00 worth of operating equipment in the process. Unless I see some obvious changes to the reliability of GE products in the future, you will likely never see another GE product in our house.

The problem is that the freezer temperature fluctuates between 0 to 25 degrees. The last repairman admitted that this is a known problem, and claimed that GE produced new boards (which he installed). However, the problem appears to be back! There are other problems as well - both drawers (fruit & vegetable) do not stay on the tracks and plastic clips that break off at will. The ice cubes stick to each other and freeze into a big blob of ice. The last time the service man came, he said the seals on the door were not working but that this was not GE's problem. The strips on the inside of the fridge have broken off for both drawers and need to be replaced. My wife and I are in our 70's and not hard on this appliance. In the meantime, I had to throw away about $75.00 worth of food because it was all spoiled. Then I had to lose a half day of work because they don't do repairs on Saturdays and only 8-12 and 1-5 during the week. The repairman came out, replaced a defrosting coil in my freezer, which by the way was a recall that we were never notified about. Anyway, after about an hour and a half, it was fixed. That was done on July 10, 2009. So here it is exactly two weeks later and my refrigerator is doing the same exact thing.

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator (french doors/bottom) freezer in Feb 2007. In March 2009, the freezer temperature began to fluctuate between 0 and 20F. I called GE. It took a week to get an appointment. The serviceman replaced the circuit board for $379. He told me this was a known issue, but GE did not cover for this model number. The temperature still fluctuated. It took another 10 days for an appointment. The same repairman came out, but when he got here, the temperature was back to 0. He spent about 5 minutes here. The temperature continues to fluctuate between 0 and 23F. I called a third time. Different repairman. He took apart the freezer and determined that the refrigerant needed replacing.

GE would cover, but I had to hire someone to move the refrigerator out of the kitchen (small kitchen, the doors had to be taken off to move it in). It will cost $200 to have someone move the refrigerator out and another $200 to move it back in. Says the warranty, it requires the refrigerator to be accessible (I did not see this language on the warranty). So if I do this, it will bring the cost of repairs to almost $800. I think GE should move the refrigerator. The job is a 2 person job and they could easily move it.

They offered to fix the cooling for the cost of $100.00. I am 4 months outside the free period. They made no attempt to contact us about the known problem. Their representative said that the part that is broken has a known high failure rate.

The $100.00 they want me to pay is really paying their cost (the repair person and the cost of the part). They are not doing anything about this 'known' problem. There should have been a recall and the problem fixed. Repair persons have been here several times and never mentioned the known problem. The company gives all sorts of reasons why the customer is wrong, but the only way to stop this engineering problem is to use duct tape on the freezer door and then it won't suck open and melt all the food.

We have a GE refrigerator with a known moisture problem. A few years ago, GE offered settlements of extended factory warranty to its customers. Recently a technician came out and told us that the problem was the refrigerator doors and their seals. The techs who have come out in the past did minor part replacements which we assumed to be a suitable solution. If GE knew at the time of the settlement that the doors were defective, why didn't they replace them in a recall?

The refrigerator is barely 7 years old and has had 4 service calls for the problem encountered. Each time the problem occurs, the moisture build-up in the freezer causes the heater to burn out and the thermistor to fail. We have lost three freezers full of food. It isn't life-threatening and fortunately we've been home each time this has happened.

Five months ago, I purchased a 6-year-old home that had a complete set of GE Profile line of appliances. They all ran fine until a few days ago when the temperatures in both the refrigerator and (bottom) freezer compartments started climbing. They went up to 70 degrees and 22 degrees, respectively. I called GE service; they came, hooked up their computer, and pronounced that the motherboard failed and was not running the unit's fan. A new board (available for $60 to $100 on the web) was installed. I was asked to pay $284.

The temperatures seemed to go down over the next 8 hours, but then they started rising well above their settings (They recommended 0 degree and 37 degrees). I placed a second call to GE service. This time, a different GE tech pronounced that the fan was working just fine, but the defroster wasn't being activated because of a bad thermistor. The coils had iced over, and heat wasn't being transferred. He thawed them out and replaced the thermistor. I was asked to pay an additional $120.

The temperature started to go down, especially in the freezer. It reached 20 degrees below, while the upper refrigerator compartment slowly came down from 42 degrees to 38 degrees. Twelve hours later, however, the fan still didn't seem to be running and the temperatures were again rising in both compartments. I called GE service yet a third time and am awaiting their arrival.

They were always awfully sorry that I'm experiencing problems, but they kept replacing different parts (Could the failure of one be the result of a bad replacement of the other?) and requiring additional payment. Yet they haven't found or fixed the underlying problem. I can't wait to see what today's GE tech says the problem is and how much more that will cost me.

I acknowledge that the appliances aren't brand-new, but they're in great shape and have been working well for five months prior to this incident. I'm willing to pay the higher rates of GE service (and their apparent philosophy of charging list price for parts), because I want technicians, who know what they're doing so the problem gets correctly identified and fixed the first time around. This just hasn't happened. Could it be that the real problem is that the refrigerator's made by GE?

He charged me $115.94 for the service call and explanation of what was wrong, which I paid that very same day. The technician claimed he had to order the part and someone for service department will be giving me a call when the part arrives in about a week. The first call at 9:00AM to customer service, the rep stated I would receive a call from dispatch within an hour to set up appointment. I waited until 1:00PM to call again and was unsuccessful to reach to the dispatch department.

The customer service rep again told me she would relay the call for a second time and I should receive a call within an hour. I waited until 4:00PM to call for the third time and again, I received the same story about the dispatch department. I tried contacting GE customer service that same afternoon via email. I left a message again at GE's inbox and still, no reply. The next day at 11:00AM, I contacted another GE service rep and explained my dissatisfaction. The second rep explained to me that the part had not been ordered according to her computer records. So here I sit without any reply from GE and nowhere to turn to get an answer. I have never experienced such terrible service. I feel GE really does not "care" about their customers after the appliance is sold. I will never buy another appliance from GE ever again. "Care Credit" was first suggested to me in the dentist office as a payment plan that offers no interest or fees; as a way of paying the dentist bill. The receptionist said I just have to sign an application for a credit check. This portion of the application did not have any detailed information. It did make reference to terms that were not attached or listed before the signature portion of the consent to a credit check. The receptionist said that the company would contact me regarding specific details of this offer.

A representative of "Care Credit" calls me and offers me a "payment protection" promotion in which she incorrectly explained. This caused me to get a late fee, which the company refused to correct. This representative also explained that she would send me a complete package explaining the terms and agreement of the payment plan offered in the dentist's office, and that I am to read, sign, and return it.

After a week of not receiving this package, I made another request for this information. I still did not receive the package and later was sent a bill. Upon paying the monthly bill every month, I continued to inquire about my obligations and the overwhelming information on the bill that is in small print. The customer service department refuse to discuss anything with me in detail by being rude and rushing me off the phone.

Since then, it's been months leading into years of calling this company for clarification and having my requests ignored. I still continue to pay the minimum monthly payment. After my complaints to the company's escalation department and the Better Business Bureau, GE Money Bank (Care Credit), still has not followed up with me about the issues of my account or third-party complaints. So far, I have paid GE over $700, when initially, I was only inquiring about their promotion and agreed to a credit check for a loan of $1,000. To this day, my account has not been credited for any of my payments and I have been charged excessive interest, financing, and late fees.

In conclusion, I have not been fully informed, nor did I sign a consent or agreement about "Care Credit's" services before committing to payment. The dentist's representative did not offer any information besides a credit check and that this promotion offers no interest and financing. The representatives of "Care Credit" did not have my written or verbal consent to any agreement of terms or financial obligations.

I have an unexplainable balance with this company. I was not well informed by the company about this promotion and its obligations verbally or in writing. I feel like I have been taken advantage of and obligated to pay for this predatory act. The company has traumatized me with their rudeness and nonchalant attitude towards taking my finances. Ever since hearing about this offer in the dentist's office, I have been inquiring and seeking information, but have been met with representatives that don't speak good English and misinform about a matter that they are forcing me to be responsible for. This injustice can damage my credit and I do not wish to pay double for a bad business deal.

They called my wife screaming and threatening her 12 times. Now, we get a letter from them saying we are going to be arrested for non-payment. My wife is scared for her life because of what they told her and we will probably have to go to court over these criminals.

We bought a side-by-side freezer/refrigerator on 1-25-2002, model number GSS20DMBWW, serial number TA214222. Since then, it has stopped working 5 times on the following dates: 3/29/04, 5/29/06, 8/30/06, 6/9/09 and 6/19/09. Each time, all the food in my freezer melted and the refrigerator temp increased and ruined everything in my refrigerator. I can't remember exactly what the service person said was wrong each time. I do know that the first time the fan stopped working and another time, the coil was broken. I wish I would never have bought this refrigerator, the one we had before was a very cheap brand but had lasted for 7 years without difficulty (I gave that refrigerator to my mom and after one minor repair, it is still working).

I thought GE was a good brand name. I have learned different. When you call to get service, you can look forward to being bounced around from number to number and told their department does not handle this. Currently it is Thursday, my refrigerator does not work, I've called multiple numbers and finally got a service call scheduled for Monday at some undetermined point during the day from 8AM to 5PM. So all my food is ruined, I have no refrigerator to put fresh food in and I have to wait till Monday to see someone who might be able to fix it. So on top of replacing the food in my fridge, I also have to eat out till Monday or go to the store multiple times per day if I want freshly prepared food.

Let's not even think about the gas I'll have to put in my car to do this. Thank God I'm not on a fixed income like some people. Morale of the story, stay away from GE products. They may or may not be as worthless as this refrigerator I have gotten stuck with, but if they are worthless, I can promise you will get poor service from GE.

I purchased a GE refrigerator on 7/17/07 and and two weeks before the warranty expired, the latch that holds the left door fell off when I opened the door. GE replaced it under warranty but two weeks ago, the left door latch fell off in my hand when I opened it. I emailed GE and they replied with a no answer and said that I could call them.

I checked online only to find that this is a major problem with the french doors. Now, the handles are coming loose and it isn't even two years old. My husband and I are both in our middle 60s so this isn't abused. I wish there was a class action on these door latches as I have now read that many folks have the same problem.

We have to check the door many times to make sure it stays shut all the way. And if we open the right door, the left just falls open. So here we sit with a fixed income and a not even two-year old fridge that is a piece of junk. I bought and paid for this, trusting the salesperson who told me when the first latch broke that they never had a problem like this with these doors. How are we supposed to keep these doors closed?

On 5-30-06, I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator along with a 5-year extended appliance warranty. June 2009, the ice maker and water dispenser quit working. June 17, 2009, I spoke with Rick Caston. He will take no responsibility for the repair because he said he didn't own the business at the time I bought the refrigerator. I have the receipt where I paid for the appliance warranty and he refuses to honor it. He was very rude on the phone, talked over me and told me that no matter what I say, he wouldn't do anything about it. I had to pay someone $350 to replace my main board to get the ice maker to work. I would have even settled for Caston to give me back my $99.98 for the no-good warranty that they won't honor.

I have a Monogram ice maker, model ZDIS15CSS that is 2 years old. There is a serious design flaw in the water recirculating pump that can cause a fire. My lower bearing on the pump seized, which caused the rotor to lock up. This caused a condition known as locked rotor current, where the motor continues to draw maximum power (trying to make it turn) but it will not turn. The current to the motor caused the entire motor to heat up and glow red hot. The heat from the motor caused all ice to melt and made the inside of the ice maker seem like a blow dryer. I could see the motor glowing when I opened the door. Having both a mechanical and electrical engineering degree provides my insight to this issue.

I disassembled the unit only to find that there is no protection for the motor as far as overload contacts or a fuse. Another finding was the pump design is ** because it is an AC motor that is unsealed and gets exposed to water and humidity - bad design! I contacted GE Monogram Consumer Relations to alert them to the potential fire hazard this can cause. They transferred me to the GE Answer Center, who transferred me to GE Consumer Relations. The GE Consumer Relations said they did not know about this issue and told me if it was important, the government would issue a recall and not them! Next time, they might want to try a DC voltage pump with protection to shutoff power to the motor when it overloads.

On July 31, 2007, I was referred to this company by GE. My 1-year-old GE refrigerator heated up to over 117 degrees inside it. When Major Appliance came out, they said the control panel was bad and replaced it. I was charged $364.20 and was told I had a 1-year warranty on repairs. Then on October 23, 2007, I woke up to my refrigerator being 117 degrees again. I immediately called Major Appliance, and the serviceman came out and said that there was nothing he could do because the problem seemed to be the "heaters in the side wall of the refrigerator that control the humidity" and that I had a fire hazard on my hands. I of course immediately called GE.

On October 25, 2007, the GE serviceman came out and diagnosed the problem as the light switch on the door was sporadically not clicking off when the door was closed, therefore, causing the "5" appliance bulbs to stay on in a very small space which in turn caused the fridge to heat up to those temperatures. He replaced the switch, and problem was resolved.

I contacted Major appliance to let them know that I fully expected a refund on the their repairs and parts because they improperly diagnosed the problem. They completely ignored my request. To me, this a very, very obvious error on their part, and if they would have stood behind their work, I probably would have used them again, even if they did diagnose the problem wrong. Standing behind what you do creates respect. They earned none! I not only lost all the food in my fridge a second time, but it cost me $364.20 for nothing. Major Appliance refused to give me a refund.

The LG failed after a year and a half, six months after its manufacturer’s warranty expired. Now, a year and a half later, the GE failed. In both failures, the freezer kept working but the refrigerator went dead. I now suspect that GE and LG are in bed and make each other’s products. In addition, the 5 year warranty is not transferable to the replacement! We now have no protection with what we thought was a 5 year warranty. Beware. You must renew your contract if GE replaces your refrigerator. We were never advised of this by anyone from GE.

refrigerator freezes food in the food section in all drawers and shelves. GE has been out 3 times and replaced all electronics, including sensors and all electronic boards. Still, it freezes foods. To GE's credit, they did agree and sent me a letter, which extended the original warranty from 12 months to 18 months. Their technician, who has been great, told me there was nothing else to replace.

I called GE Consumer Relations (GE calls it consumer relations; I call it **.) this morning, and they want to send the technician back to try and repair. Repair what? All components have been replaced, I guess they want to rebuild it one piece at a time. Yes, I am getting the "GE runaround." I think they should replace it, since they can't fix it after three tries. Technician is due out in the morning to waste more of my time. I do intend follow up with lemon laws to find out what I can do. I will call them every week for a new appointment to see how long they will come out before they do the right thing and replace the lemon. Do not buy this model.

My wife and I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator approximately 16 months ago. It is a "French door" model with the freezer below. We paid approximately $2,500.00 for it. Within months of receiving the unit, it began to make a very loud and annoying humming noise, well beyond the normal hum of any refrigerator compressor. After several "repair" visits and one replacement fan motor for the freezer, the noise still continues. We were finally told that high humidity is causing ice build-up on the freezer fan, throwing it slightly off center, causing the loud, vibrating hum. I would also like to mention that the first so-called repairman broke more parts on the cheaply made freezer components than he fixed as he took it apart. After dealing with the annoying humming every time the humidity rises, we live in NJ, the ice maker has now broken. Plus, the freezer now seems to be having trouble with condensation and ice build-up, and the refrigerator does not maintain a constant, consistent temperature.

We called again for repairs, but to date no one has come to our home to fix this extremely irritating problem. We have tried getting help from the mobile home dealer and the manufacturer of our new mobile home. Nothing seems to work and they have refused to replace the refrigerator. We purchased this refrigerator expecting to get a reliable product that would last for a good-many years. Now we're just getting a run-around and ignored.

We've had small (unkonwn size) to large (half dollar size) pieces of plastic material dispensed in both the ice cube and crushed ice dispenser of our GE refridgerator. When this was noticed we immediately emptied the ice basket and discovered, to our horror I might add, that many parts of the ice feed auger had been broken off and dispensed with the ice cubes and crushed ice. At this time we have no idea of the amount of plastic like material that we have ingested into our digestive systems. I have just looked into purchasing a new auger fully expecting to see that a change in the design material had been made to the auger. I was astounded to see the auger showed no signs of improvement and the cost of this plastic like auger was in excess of $40.00. These inferior, poorly designed and tested augers should be taken off the market immediately. It is only a matter of time before GE will have legal actions brought against them either on an individual or a class action level.

Purchased the GE Profile side by side refridge in Sept. 05. In October 08 ice maker started to leak, we had GE repair come out and with 1 minute of the tech being here he claimed it was my ice maker that needed to be replaced and charged us over $340 for labor and parts. Later that same evening the ice maker started to leak again. I called and GE tech came out again and said to replace the main board to "reset" the whole unit which was replaced in Jan. 09. The next morning the ice maker started leaking again. I called yet again to report the problem, at which point the ice maker stopped making ice for about a week or so and defrosted everything in my top 2 shelves. This same issue continued for 6 months - the tech. would come out and tell me that there was nothing they could do at the time because they would have to see the ice maker actually leaking at that time to figure out the problem. But they did not address that there was no ice being made. Twice they came out and I would find a "sorry we missed you tag on my door" even though they came into my house looked at the refridge and left because they were baffled. In May 09, a tech came and said they would replace the ice maker and the main board and that would resolved the problem. I explained to him that they had both already been done in less than 6 months. He told me the charge would be close to $400 and gave me a number to GE consumer services to try and get it waived due to be purchasing the same parts less than 6 months ago. GE agreed to repair and replace the parts free of charge. The repair man came out yesterday and in less than 10m replaced the ice maker and main board and left one part still in the package. I called GE to tell them the part was not put in and was still in the box and they said they would call the repairman and get back with me within 20m. I never heard back from them. I also noticed that the refridge sounds like an airplane ready to take off...the fan is incredibly loud and continually runs. This morning I woke up to find that my control panel in the refridge part is completely blank and ice maker is leaking! and the entire freezer is defrosting!!!!!!! I am so sick with the issues that have been going on and would like to find out if this is a product recall or defect. We paid a lot of money for the refridge and I would like the item to just be corrected or replaced.
