We have the same problem with this GSS25LGMB WW model as everyone else complaining on Consumer Reports website. First the icemaker went bad then the fridge turned into an oven. No way to cool it.

12/07 – Refrigerator door latch broke off inside refrigerator. GE sent us a new door for which we replaced. The other door latch broke (French doors). GE refused to send a new door, saying they must send a technician to evaluate the problem, which would cost $125.00.
6/08 – Dishwasher not functioning. Called GE technician and paid $99.95 for assessment of the problem. He concluded that the computer panel needed replacement, costing a total of $224.95. 6/08 – Refrigerator (2nd incident): Was not cooling properly/in a timely manner. New mainboard was required for this refrigerator that is less than 2 years old. Total replacement costs: $268.53 1/09 – Trash compactor. Motor would not function. Service call was $99.95. Technician ordered parts and was scheduled to return on 1/31/09 (a Saturday morning). The technician never showed up. No phone calls from GE to reschedule or to inform us that he was not going to show up. I had to leave my children’s TBall game early to be sure to be home to meet the technician, who never showed up. I called GE and was told the part was on back order. yet no GE representative called me to let me know this ahead of time. I then rescheduled the appointment. A few days later a GE representative called to offer us a new compactor for $268.53 (for a total of 368.00) with the technician charge to come to establish the problem in the first place. We agreed to buy a new compactor at the “discounted” rate (even though our current compactor is less than 3 years old). The new compactor was installed, but its quality is far from being the quality of our first compactor. It appears we got a “cheaper” model as a replacement. At no time did GE offer compensation for the technician’s “No Show” and the time involved with waiting, while continuing to have a broken trash compactor. 2/09- Refrigerator (3rd incident) - Ice – maker piece broke off ice-maker…Ice-maker not making ice. Incidentally, ice continually drops to bottom of freezer and eventually onto our hardwood floors. It does not stay in the ice drawer. 2/09 and continual (4th incident) – Freezer and refrigerator door handles continually fall off. The allen screw becomes loose often. This is an unsafe situation as we have 2 small children. 2/09 – Cooktop – Middle gas burner knob fell off. Unable to turn burner on and off. 12/8 - Refrigerator (5th incident) – Vegetable drawer runner broke. Drawer does not open/close properly and falls off track often.

Around April 20, 2009, I called GE to report that the ice crush drawer had all the metal parts rusty, except for the screws. I discovered the problem when I saw metal particles in a cup of water with crushed ice one of my children was drinking. There are rusty metal flakes all over the interior of the ice drawer. The caller asked me to provide some information. I gave her the Model #, Series #, and the date I purchased the refrigerator: April 2000.
The first person from GE who talked to me on the phone told me that it was common for metal parts in the ice crush to get rusty because of hard water or any other problem. I was concerned about health issues related to a child drinking metal particles for God knows how long. This person transferred my call to the Customer Relations department. A man answered the phone. Once more, I provided the model number, the series number, and the date that I purchase the refrigerator: April 2000. When the attendant answered my call, he told me that this was not a common case. He said that this was not supposed to happen. He asked me who had told me that it was common for the metal parts to become rusty. He apologized for the inconvenience, and said that he was going to send someone over to my house “to take care of everything.” After checking my calendar, I squeezed in Wednesday morning, April 29, 2009 to receive this GE technician who was going to take care of my problems and I believed to apologize for all my inconvenience. To my surprise, the technician came and said that this problem might happen. He said that he has an extensive experience and he saw that happened many times. According to him, probably there was a knick in the metal, it rusted and this spread throughout. He wanted to charge me for the part and the visit. I told him that the reason that I agreed to have him come over was the GE’s promise to TAKE CARE of EVERYTHING. The Customer Relations person did never mentioned any charge on my part. The technician said there was not a note on waiving anything. After a phone call from the technician to GE, the person at GE waived the charge for the part that would be send over to me by mail, but not the visit charge, that would cost me $99.00. I was astonished. It was not because of the amount but the total lack of respect for me as a consumer. The technician said that the Customer Relation person probably told me that GE was going to take of everything, meaning waiving any charges, to get rid of me: one caller less to deal with. Besides, he added, there is a huge turnover among Customer Relation attendants because it is difficult to listen to consumers screaming. That information made me believe that if GE receives a lot of calls from screaming consumers that means that GE has serious issues with its consumers and/or its products. He said that I could call GE and see if they would help me. I called GE April 29, after the technician left. The call was transferred to Consumer relation attendant identified as Deborah. I calmly explained the situation: what I was told “GE will take care of everything” and what the technician and a person from GE said. She said that GE was in its right to charge the fee. If the system says that it is supposed to charge something, GE is in its right to do so. She did not apologize for all the inconvenience I had. She showed a lack of tact to deal with the situation. She was rude. Everything was a total waste of my time. I had to rearrange my schedule to fit the GE visit not to solve anything. If I were told right from the beginning that “taking care of everything or my problem” would mean to cause more problem, meaning: working from home, spending time on the phone and talking to the technician to no avail, or to pay for having a defective part replaced, I would not have lost my time. This is not the best of times for a company to mislead a consumer or to mistreat a consumer. The only lesson that I learned from all this is not to buy a GE product in the future. Maybe that was a good lesson to learn.

I had PTS25LBMARWW GE refrigerator for less than 7 years. One fine day, it stopped working and I placed a call for GE. Serviceman walked into the door, went straight for the circuit board, pulled it, placed a new one and charged me $300. All these took less than 10 minutes. I believe the part which took long was to charge my credit card. Motherboard wr55x10656 cost me $120 and the labor cost me $170 + taxes. It's amazing for 10-minute job when they know what is the fault. GE cannot support its products for more than 7 years. Ridiculous.

We purchased our GE Profile refrigerator less than 18 months ago when the freezer began to fluctuate in temperature going from 10 degrees to 30 degrees and back down again. We called GE and after several hours on the phone, we got a repairman scheduled for the next week. He said it was a fan and ordered the part which arrived a few days later. He then came back the next week to install it. He said to allow 12 hours for it to reach 0 degrees.

Twenty four hours later, it was still at 27 degrees. Replacing this fan did absolutely nothing, yet we were charged $411. We called GE again and they scheduled a service rep to come the next week. He just left a few minutes ago. It is a different repairman (the other guy is on vacation this week) and this guy says it is the thermostat and will order the part. And when it comes in, we can call him and he will come back to install but it will be another week. I certainly hope this solves the problem but it seems to me that the thermostat is the first thing you would check with this problem of fluctuating temperatures.

I purchased GE Refg. #GSH22JSTASS in 2006. It went out and quit cooling in the 2nd year due to defective part. Repair person said he had been seeing this problem. Service contract did cover but still you do not expect a ref to have a problem being only 2 years old. Now, the frame for one of the shelves has broken. The bar on the back of the shelf has come loose. This piece should not come off but it has. Now, the shelf can't be used. Service contract people say it's not covered. If I want the shelf, I will have to pay for it. I would like to know if anyone else has had this issue. This will certainly play a part in my future decision-making on appliance purchases. No more GE and I will let everyone know about how crappy GE appliances have become. I keep waiting for the next problem to occur. You spend a lot of money on an appliance that should last and not made out of disposable parts.

This side-by-side refrigerator is from 2003 and 2 times now I have had to replace the auger/ice bucket assembly. The first time, a piece of plastic broke off the auger and got pushed forward into where it gets dispensed. It literally got wedged in there, but ice was still falling. Over time the metal mechanism at the end where the ice falls was creating a groove in the piece that was wedged in. As I went to get ice, it would run over that piece and deposit fiber-like pieces of plastic in my drink that the naked eye could barely see. I was coughing for over 2 weeks not knowing what was going on.

My wife told me to go to the doctor, but I could tell it was not from me being sick. I finally figured out it was only when I was getting ice out of the fridge that it happened later on. I then proceeded to check the ice bucket and lo and behold, there it was wedged in there. I called the company and after complaining that this was a very serious safety issue, they offered to send me a new one. Well this happened again just last week, but luckily I caught the problem in time. I called GE about this same problem and again, they offered me a new assembly unit. I got it today and it is the exact same one - no difference at all. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured. Who knows, my stomach may have some issues from this after all.

We purchased a new GE refrigerator from our local appliance store. Less than a year after we purchased this appliance, we began to have problems with it. The freezer was not cooling properly; the ice maker flaps would not open or close properly creating a moisture problem. We were told by GE that our refrigerator was under a default program because of all the problems associated with this make and model. They replaced the faulty parts. Now, two years (warranty expired), we are experiencing the same problem but GE is saying the default program that our refrigerator was under has expired.

Now, we am stuck with food in coolers all over my kitchen, no refrigerator and basically told by GE that our food loss is not their problem. Our refrigerator is only 6 years old. You'd expect an appliance that cost nearly 2 grand to last longer than 6 years. I contacted GE on Tuesday. I did not hear from them until today and was told they could not get a repairman out until Monday.

They offered to sell us a replacement fridge or send a repairman at our expense. Because we are past our warranty, they will not reimburse us for the food we have lost. We cannot afford another refrigerator. My husband has been out of work with serious health issues and our budget just can't take a purchase of that magnitude at this time. I will never purchase another GE product again, not even a light bulb! I was treated so flippantly by one consumer specialist that I am amazed she is employed dealing with the public.

The other day, I found a piece of plastic (sharp piece) in the disposer and couldn't figure out where it came from, so I dismissed it until today. When I was finishing my soda in ice, I almost swallowed a sharp piece of plastic, and then I put 2 and 2 together. I checked the ice machine in the refrigerator and emptied the ice, and the auger has come apart. I called GE and they never heard of such a thing happening and wanted to send out a service man but I would have to pay for the parts. I was then offered the part as a discount, so I just ordered myself. Why would they say they never heard of this problem and now I see after coming to this site that I am not the only one? I am so glad I didn't swallow this or especially my children. There has to be a better design as I’m now afraid this will happen again.

After hurricane Katrina, we purchased all new GE appliances with our new home. The refrigerator only lasted 2 1/2 years. The service man said the computer was fried and we needed to replace it. This would also involve replacing the door. At a total cost of $850.00, I decided to buy a new fridge for $1,100. It is about a year old and the icemaker does not work properly. It grinds ice to something in between cube and crushed, regardless of the setting. It often freezes up and doesn't work at all. My mother has the same model, and she told me that hers is the same way. I am only writing this now because my GE washing machine is leaking water everywhere. I'm sure it will have to be replaced also. I think this time around, I will try a different brand.

My GE Profile refrigerator, which is two and a half years old, shorted out and melted the electronics under the metal panel in the back. The technician who came said the parts were fused together and the refrigerator was unrepairable. When he called GE, and I spoke to their customer service rep, they said they would prorate the cost of replacing the refrigerator and gave me the same model, an '09 for $406. I paid $1,300 + tax for this refrigerator and I don't think it should have failed in 2 and 1/2 years. They refused to replace the refrigerator unless I pay the $406. I can't afford to replace the refrigerator with a different brand (which I would like to do) because I have too much money invested in it. The dealer advised me to take the deal and I probably will have to because I have no recourse. The product was defective and they should replace it.

We had it almost a year and the motor started to make a lot of noise. We called the appliance store and they came out to fix it at no charge because it was still under warranty. About 6 months after they fixed it, the motor went in it again. We called the appliance store and it would cost us about $200 to fix it because the warranty was for a year. I called the GE consumer report to complain to see if they would help us considering this is the 2nd motor in 2 years. They told us we had to pay for a service charge to see what was the matter with it. I explained we could not afford that at this time and if we did do a service call, would they pay for the new motor. Of course not. There is no warranty on the refrigerator anymore.

And I am wondering why I can’t get a new fridge if it was included in the class action lawsuit. Even though it's ended, the judge is supposedly leaving it open-ended for people who were not notified. Reviewed April 3, 2009

I have a 14-year old GE Profile TFX24PR side-by-side refrigerator with water and ice dispenser in the door. Our refrigerator and freezer started getting warm and the ice maker started behaving poorly. I discovered water dripping from the bottom of the ice maker, then I discovered ice down the back left corner of the freezer. Apparently, the ice maker was leaking - freezing in the back of the freezer - and the defroster was working overtime trying to thaw the ice. I moved the food to our backup cooling and unplugged the fridge to thaw it out. After thawing it out and cleaning up the mess, I plugged it back in, turned off the ice maker and the master water supply to the fridge. Temperatures returned to normal (about -20C for the freezer, and about +2C for the fridge).

We called the local service provider who sent a technician. He replaced the ice maker, but the next day we called again because there was no ice. The technician returned and determined that the ice maker water valve (external to the ice maker) was bad. He put our original ice maker back in (with credit) and changed the water valve. Again no ice, and then I discovered water in the back of the freezer again. This time I took matters into my own hands. After moving all the food (again), I unplugged the fridge and started disassembling the freezer compartment. This is a tedious and time-consuming process. When I removed the cover over the cooling coils, I could see a giant ice block stuck to the top of the cooling coils. Water had been leaking down behind the ice dispenser motor drive section, and freezing to the coils. After thawing altogether, it was probably close to a quart of water. This took a lot of time due to ice buildup around many of the wires. I was able to use large slip-joint (Channel Lock) pliers to break much of the ice, being careful not to snag wires.

After removing the rest of the ice maker compartment components, I determined that water could only be coming from the fill tube in the top-left corner. The technician had already replaced the valve, so in my mind that meant there was a problem with the tube. Looking at the outside of the back of the freezer there is a small diameter tube that enters a connector at the top of the freezer compartment. Inside the freezer compartment it is a much larger diameter tube. I grabbed the large tube and gently twisted it and pulled it out. It does not have any type of fastening mechanism. It is installed using only a friction fit based on the outside diameter of the tube fitting into the inside of the connector. I pushed the tube back in. I was not confident of the fit and took the tube back out. I reversed ends of the tube and pushed it in. There was more resistance this time. It is still not what I call the best fix, but short of using a sealer, I think it will do. Apparently, over time, the tube end shrank or compressed under pressure of the connector.

I put everything back together, except for the plastic cover over the fan, so I can try to monitor leakage, although the fan assembly still blocks the view. I plugged the fridge back in and overnight it returned to normal temperature (-20C). I watched it drop from 23C to 4C in about 30 minutes, and then went to bed.

Today I turned on the water supply and turned on the ice maker. It is producing ice, and each time I hear it dump ice I look in the various places for signs of leakage (none yet). So far it is working fine, after dumping ice four or five times. It looks like I have fixed the problem for now, but I suspect that at some time in the future the problem will recur, given the poor design utilized in attaching the fill tube. The next time I will probably use a sealer.

Aside from this, I don't recall ever having any other trouble with this unit. So, with fourteen years of reliable service, I really can't complain, except for the lousy design of the fill tube (which smacks of built-in obsolescence) and inability of the technician to identify the real problem.

An invaluable tool in this process is a digital thermometer with a remote sensor. I put the thermometer on top of the freezer and ran the sensor lead into the freezer. This allows me to monitor the temperature without having to open the door and let the cold air out. I got this unit many years ago from Radio Shack for about $10. I don't know if they still carry something similar.

I bought my refrigerator less than 3 years ago. I have had nothing but problems with it from day one. After 4 trips to my house in the first year, they said they repaired it. However I have never been able to keep ice cream in the freezer and it had difficulties keeping cold in the summer time. Part of the inside plastic is cracked and melted from all the problems in the beginning. Today it died. The light is on but the motor is not running and all my food was ruined. I realize it is not under warranty anymore, however when I bought it for $1200, I had reasonable expectations it would work for more than 3 years. I think it should be declared a lemon and replaced by the manufacturer. I cooperated with them when they came out before and worked on it, even though I was not happy with the results. Consumer Service says I need to pay the service tech to come out and look at the refrigerator and parts and repairs are extra.

I have purchased a new GE refrigerator/freezer side by side from Home Depot and I have trouble since I received it. The temp. setting is as required. The Ice cubes sometimes comes out cubes, pieces and slush. GE repairman saw this. It then freezes in a large chunk and wouldn't go through the door for ice. The Ice machine didn't stop making ice and cubes of all sizes were all over my freezer. I couldn't get to the shut off for ice to hard to get to shut it off. My ice cream is sometimes soft and sometimes hard.

I did stop using ice and I had someone shut it off since the fall. My eggs in the refrigerator also has frozen 4 times now. If I keep it in the Styrofoam container it comes in, I don't have this problem though. I have the eggs 28 from the air duct in the refrigerator but it freezes sometimes if not in the Styrofoam. The repairmen have seen my eggs also. When I need a egg, I don't have it.

I had GE repair at my house about 4 times now. They have seen the eggs about 2-3 times, have seen the frozen chunk of ice, have seen slush and still tell me nothing is wrong. They tell me they can't fix what they don't see. They said just empty the ice tray and start again. They can't fix it because they aren't here when it happens. They only see what they see but claim they can't fix something that isn't broken.

GE is not willing to give me another refrigerator. Something is not right with this refrigerator. Home Depot did call GE for me and put me on the phone and GE offered to send someone to my home when this time there was nothing to see. They wouldn't see a problem then. On top of this, 3 times the GE repairman said if I keep calling GE when nothing is wrong, GE will start charging me for service calls.

My refrigerator is less than a year old still but my problem I will have for as long as I have this refrigerator. What can I do? GE offered me an extended 6 months of service and I asked if I can get it in writing and I didn't. I have called again today and was told they will give me the 6 months of service. I want it in writing and they said they will send it in writing. We'll see? But, how can I get them here If I catch my eggs frozen? They don't come right over. What good is this? I do agree they can't fix what they can't see but they have seen my eggs frozen and very large chunks of ice.

I have never had this in my other refrigerators. This is not good enough. My refrigerator that I gave away was loud but worked better than my new one. Is there a lemon law for refrigerators in NY? I should have been offered another refrigerator. I have many GE appliances and this is a problem. I don't drive and if I need an egg, I can't just get it. I also have trouble with the design of this freezer. I can't get my fingers between the ice bin and the shelf to pull out the ice cube basket to shut off or put on for ice cubes. I have to hurt my fingers to do this. I believe there is something wrong with the thermostat or something with this fridge/freezer.

How can I prove it? What can I do? I have now taken a picture of the eggs this time. I should have taken it the other times also though. A new GE refrigerator/freezer is not supposed to work this way. Some of the people I have spoken to at GE themselves have said this to me when I have asked them. I also should have not been told that I will start being charged for repair when I am under warranty and there is clearly a problem but told he can't fix what he can't see. He did see my eggs a few times, large chunk of ice almost the size of the container of the ice cabinet. I was also missing a freezer shelf when I received this unit. And the repairman clearly said this refrigerator doesn't come with another shelf in the freezer and I went back to the store and checked and then called GE and they sent me a shelf.

I had a bracket for a shelf and you could clearly see you are not supposed to pile frozen food on top of each other for a 22 1/2 height. The repairman is not helpful at all after observing this. What can I do? Also the repairman insisted in putting back the shelf for the second time that I have which is above the ice cube drawer in its track. I have kept it on top of the track and have told him why and have only had a light item on top of this shelf. By keeping the shelf on top of this track, I can get to the shut off arm for ice. If it is in the track, I can't put my fingers between the drawer and the shelf to pull it out. It's not easy for anyone and if you don't know that is what you need to do, it is not clear how to shut off the ice anyway. GE tried to talk me through it and they never explained it so I could even understand.

I think that it is outrageous that a 4 year old refrigerator should need such an expensive repair and that this part is such a weak spot causing the whole unit to shut down. It is also outrageous that GE service could not come out for 3 days. If it was a washer or dryer or microwave that would not have been such a problem. I think that GE should pay for the repair. I have the defective part and can send it to you.

We had to go without a refrigerator for a whole month. THe food bill was crazy because I had 3 growing kids and we had to eat out almost every day. A year later they came out again to fix the problem with the refrigerator not cooling. Turns out there was a leak in the feron pipe or something. Than last year we noticed our flood was flooded under the refrigerator. TUrns out there was a leak in the water pipe to the ice maker. I've had a Jenaire refrig at a third of the price I paid for the GE Monogram for over 10 years without a problem.

The first time they replaced them, the second time I had to. Since I did the repair, I was curious as to why they were burning up. Noticed that the water would drip down the cables and get inside the heaters. I sealed the cables with silicon caulk where they entered the heaters and I haven't had another issue with the refrigerator for 10 years running.

Sometime between purchasing this warranty and now, the inner lining started to crack. I kept putting off getting a technician to see it due to not having a lot of free time. Since the extended warranty ends at the end of this year, I called in a GE technician, who was told by the engineer to drill holes in the lining and fill it with silicone. So now it would look like a rental refrigerator salvaged from Habitat for Huumanity. The Technician secretly told us that we should try to get the company to replace the unit, sinc the lining cracks are a sure sign the unit is defective. Following his advice, I refused the solution. Also, it did not sound like a permanent solution but a stopgap measure to see me through the expiration of the agreement. Also, I noted that the refrigerator cost me top dollar but has been made poorly with cheap parts.

On the second and third calls the service technician opened it up and made mechanical alterations, replacing parts where necessary. This is a known problem with GE Refrigerators-- a fleet wide problem. Such a big problem, GE created a Water Dispenser Heater product to correct this issue. A problem that really should have been recalled or fixed altogether going back as far as I can tell to 2004. All three people at GE I spoke with said they had never heard of the problem. I find that amazing. You can research this issue and it's all over the Internet-- even my neighbor has had this issue with their brand new GE Refrigerator. I think GE is covering this issue up. When I mentioned this issue being widespread, I was told-- can you show me this issue on our website. Interesting that you can't find this issue or complaints on their website-- cover up? I was told that GE can't be held responsible for postings on the Internet or my neighbor. I truly hope someone cares and looks into this issue and holds GE responsible. They should have made a recall on this design defect a long time ago.

But, when the techs connects a lap top to the refrigerator to assess it, they are using the SAME sensors that control the unit, and which may be defective and causing the problem. This makes NO sense. GE will not explain why it disregards my data and it ignores my criticism of the validity of the way its techs check my unit. I think this is deliberate.

On that same monday 03/02/2009 when we came back from work we found the entire first floor of the house completely flooded!!!!. The source of the water was our GE refrigerator. After close inspection my husband and I found the water filter had a crack and the water was coming out from there. Our best guess is that the water in the water filter froze, expanded and cracked the filter, then when the water in the filter unfroze it stated to leak and caused the flood. The water not only flooded our house, it went through a common wall and into the neighbor's house flooding it too. To restore our home and our neighbor's home to the way it was before the flood it will cost us somewhere around 20K dollars as estimated by the restoration company. of another one-year-old of the same a year before died in our new house just after we were married. I was at my wit's end, so I went to see a friend who owns an appliance store here in town. He sold me this Profile but it doesn't make much ice. The ice maker has been replaced, but the tech told me that it only makes eight cubes in 90 minutes. The two junk Frigidaire refrigerators made the same in 42 minutes. I know, because my new wife and I timed them. My friend and the tech told me there was nothing they could do.

I know if GE really cared about their customers, they would have a retrofit kit to solve this problem. Like I said before, after all the problems I've read here, mine sounds like nothing. But, it still gets on my nerves thinking how much I spent on this thing. I'm not upset with my friend. His tech was here the next day. I wish I could do something for all of you. So should GE... With the two Frigidaire refs, we lost over $700.00 worth of food. This new Profile cost us time and fuel to go get ice. I swore I'd never buy a Frigidaire again, and now there's GE. The repairman took a look and found that the defroster was faulty and said he would order a new defroster and install it in a week. I asked him about compensation for all the food I lost. He gave me the GE Consumer Relations number who then passed me on to GE Insurance. GE Insurance said they would only send me $75 for the food when I lost around $400 worth of food. I then called back Consumer Relations and told them that I would take pictures to document all the food I lost. They said that was not necessary because they will only give me $75.

I then got a call on 2/16/09 saying that the defroster was on back order and would not arrive until 2/27/09 or 3 weeks after the fridge went down. I then called Customer Relations again and after an hour, I spoke with the supervisor's supervisor, Mrs. ** and she said GE would call me on 2/18/09 and either have the part or exchange the fridge with a new one. GE called on 2/19/09 and said I had been approved for an exchange and would receive the new fridge in 3 to 5 days from Alan & Sons Delivery. Today, 2/23/09, I received a call from Alan & Sons saying that they would be picking up the old fridge on 2/26/09 but not delivering a new one. So I again called GE Consumer Relations, spent 40 minutes on hold waiting to talk to a supervisor and was then told that their day was over and I would get a call the next day. They also told me that it would be 5 to 7 working days before I received a new fridge. This would be 3 1/2 weeks after the 3-month-old fridge broke down.

I am on the Atkins diet and can only eat meat and vegetables which all need to refrigerated. This whole situation is driving me crazy and I feel like there is nothing I can do. Appliances are always going to have defective parts but what is really frustrating is when something goes wrong, there is absolutely no urgency by GE to fix the problem in a timely manner. I want to get my money back on the fridge and buy another brand. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GE APPLIANCE.

I emptied my ice bin and found more broken plastic pieces but could not see any obvious place that they may have come from. I called GE and was eventually transferred to a customer care agent. The agent really didn't seem concerned about the plastic and I was upset that she was not concerned about such a potentially serious problem; that made me angry because she didn't seem interested that some innocent person could be killed and especially since this could be happening with other people's ice bins all over the country. GE did agree to send a tech out at no cost but that I would have to pay for any parts. Give me a break, they almost harmed my daughter and they wanted me to pay to replace a very dangerous, defective part. When I voiced my objections to having to pay for the part, the rep still wouldn't budge so I said maybe I need to get a lawyer and that is when she said she could no longer talk to me and that I would need to speak to their legal department. I then talked her back into having someone come out to look at it. The repair tech said it must have been the plastic cover that goes over the ice bin because that was missing. He said I really didn't need the cover anyway and that it would be expensive because I would have to replace the entire ice bin. So I took his advice and didn't order a new one.

The fridge clicks loud, something like a clock but louder and more annoying. They said in order for it to be fixed under the warranty, it would have to be fixed by a GE licensed tech. We can't even find anyone who wants to work on GE products. The clicking is so annoying we have to turn up the TV just so we can't hear it. It's a PROFILE refrigerator and it matches the other GE products we purchased with our home. Even the company we bought our home from no longer carries GE products. The time spent on the phone has been outrageous and all for what? Rudeness for one thing; GE acts like it's our fault. Do not buy GE products. These days, companies that cannot provide quality products are failing so it shouldn't be long before GE closes its factories. Do Not buy a GE PROFILE. I could go on about the microwave too but at least it does work.

I can buy a similar model at a store for the same price - what a bargain. It is ironic, because this refrigerator was a replacement for another GE Refrigerator that had massive issues, and after six months of replacing parts, they finally agreed to give me a new fridge. The average life span of a GE Refrigerator is 2.5 years. We lost food, two hours on the phone with GE, and an $84.80 service call.

We have owned this refrigerator for approximately 3 years. It is out of its factory warranty. The repairman just left after his 4th visit of trying to resolve the same issue, a phantom faulty digital display. GE is not responsive to his questions on diagnosis and parts take weeks to be sent from GE. To fix the problem, so far we have replaced the digital display circuit board, hinges (contain electrical wiring), door seals (contain electrical wiring), and door latches (contain electrical wiring). As he left, he said he would again contact GE Monday. It will no doubt be another three weeks until he's back with the next fix. We also have had numerous plastic parts that have broken over time including the vegetable drawer. I am seriously thinking of putting this piece of junk out on the curb and getting something reliable. Buy a GE refrigerator at your own risk and be ready to shell out big dollars on repair costs.

We informed them that it's only two weeks old, and we would return it to the store we purchased it from if they don't repair it sooner. They surprised us by saying that they would have someone out the next day between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. We agreed. After taking a vacation day and calling to confirm, and receiving an automated confirmation call stating that we were the service tech's next appointment, the service guy never showed up.

When we called the next day, they told my wife that nobody was home when the service guy made the call. This was so upsetting, as we were sitting home all day and even called to confirm. GE side by side model GSS25JEMCBB. This fridge has been a nightmare. It was placed in our new home by the builder in 2002. About a month after moving in, the water dispenser would freeze and no water or ice would be dispensed. Calls to GE were met with a skeptic overtone, everything from I had the fridge turned up too high to food improperly placed inside. After several calls and I think the class action lawsuit filed against them, they replaced both doors on the fridge admitting that they were defective. Last night (1-7-09), the water dispenser again failed to work. Thinking the fridge was up to its old tricks again, we waited. Every now and then, we would walk over to it and push the button to see if it was working, to no avail.

Later, we discovered a puddle of water on the floor. We soon traced the leak to a small water tank behind the fresh food and produce drawers. Thinking this was an easy fix, I went to look for parts on the GE website and looked for the replacement part. It was nowhere to be found. I called GE to ask them if the part had been changed and the person I spoke to directed me to another number (1-800-432-2737 Option 1). I informed the person on the phone that I wished to order a water tank but could only find a water storage coil. I informed him that I would like to replace the part but needed to know if it would be a simple plug and play or if additional parts would be needed. After a lengthy hold time, the technician advised me that he had been informed that there was nothing that could be done.

He advised the part had been changed and there was no way a water tank could be replaced with a water storage coil. He did empathize with me over the fact that if the part was discontinued, then there should be a way to replace it with the new one. He advised he was sorry and that there was nothing that could be done. I was utterly floored. How can this be? No wonder America is falling behind when we have companies such as this that knowingly engage in this type of deceitful, malicious and callous business practices. There were three GE products installed during the build of our home and as they fail, all will be removed and never purchased again as a result of our dealings with GE.

I purchased a home in 11/08 that has all GE Profile appliances. Day 1, we had problems with the refrigerator - PFS22SISBSS. One of our reasons for selecting this home was due to the matching stainless steel GE appliances. When we moved in, we found the freezer drawer would not open. After having a repair person here, we were informed that water leaked from the ice maker and froze the drawer rails. They defrosted and then we thought it would be fine. Not the case... The water dispenser started dripping water into the fridge, down to the freezer. Yes, big mess.

I called GE help line and they informed me that it sounded like the water valve needed to be replaced. They were happy to schedule that for me - $80 service call plus $142 part. So for $200 (10% of the cost new) they could fix it. This was new in April ‘06 and not used for over a year while the house was on the market. I contacted GE Customer Service department via e-mail (to have a record of contact) to share my disappointment with their product. And to my surprise, I received a phone call from customer service. They explained that they had no record of this issue and was sorry they could not offer any help. I was told they have to be fair to all customers and keep their repair practice consistent.

There doesn't seem to be anything I can do, but my parents have a refrigerator over 15 years old with NO problems. A little over 2 years there are several hundreds of dollars repairs required. I will not purchase GE again and wish I hadn't accepted a home with these products. Their quality is not living up to its reputation which now seems to be very negative. I asked a friend who works at a big box appliance store and they do not recommend GE for anything due to the common problems. After some research, I am finding that I am not the only one. GE installed a new refrig/freezer last summer. It has a freezer drawer in the bottom with an icemaker. The icemaker continues making ice even when the ice drawer is full. When you pull out the ice drawer to get some ice, the cubes piled up at the back are knocked off onto the freezer floor. When cubes are on that floor, the freezer drawer will not close. It is necessary to get down on the floor, reach way back into the base of the freezer and sweep out the cubes for disposal. Then you face the job of trying to get up off the floor, not easy for an 85 year old. This process has to be done 2 or 3 times per week.

After my first call to GE customer service, they sent a technician who determined that the icemaker needed to be replaced, which he did, accomplished nothing. I next emailed to customer service. This evoked a phone call telling me that the solution to the problem is to turn off the icemaker when the drawer is full and turn it back on when I need more ice. This necessitates removing frozen food from the shelf in front of the ice maker, removing the shelf, turning off the ice maker, install the shelf and replace the food, a rather stupid solution to the problem. I next wrote to the president of GE with a complete description and he had an associate call me and told me to turn off the ice maker.

On 1/3/2009, I opened the freezer to get some ice. When I closed the freezer drawer, some ice cubes had been dragged onto the floor in front of the refrigerator (without my knowledge). A couple hours later, I went to the refrigerator to get an apple and slipped on one of the ice cubes that was on the floor. The only reason I didn't have a bad fall and injury is because I had a good grip on the handle of the refrigerator. Someone else will not be so lucky. There's almost sure to be a serious injury from this problem. When such an injury occurs, I hope the injured person sues GE for millions of dollars and I hope I hear about it because I have a complete file of everything I have done to try to get GE to remedy this problem and I will be happy to give that data to the injured party. GE has been making icemakers for decades. This model is obviously a defective design. GE WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM.

I have never had such horrible customer service in my life. My 4-year old refrigerator has a known issue with the control board. I called on this issue after researching the problem online. GE has decided to fix them from 2005 and on, but people do get these fixed outside of their date all the time. It just depends on who you talk to. My first call was to a lady who said I would get a call back on the issue. She said that she would schedule a service time and make sure the part would be covered under a 'field rework program'. I told her that I would like to know what it was going to cost for the service call and labor if it was not the control board. She said that she would call back.

I just received a call last night from an automated service stating that they would be coming out to fix my appliance from 1:00-5:00 today, January 5, 2009, so I decided to take a half day off of work. I just received a call from Jenny, employee # ** stating that the service tech could not make the appointment today and that she had no knowledge of the issue and told me to call back to see if it was going to be covered. Jenny gave me the number to customer care and I spoke with MRS. **, employee #**, who was the most unpleasant supervisor. She stated that she could not do anything for me and that the part was going to be $168 and service call was going to be $79.95, not including labor and to just deal with it. I have never been treated so badly in all my years.

So where I stand is that there are many websites devoted to this problem and so many people get their control board replaced for free. It just depends on who you speak with. I have documented my case and will be sending a letter to the BBB and to the Attorney General’s office on this issue. It's unfortunate that we could not have worked these issues out. When I purchased my new home from Lennar, the appliances were part of the package. Specifically, we got a new GE Refrigerator, model GSS22JETAWW, serial number HL229007. That was October, 2006.
Recently, we discovered the unit was not working but had purchased an extended homeowners policy. They sent out a service technician and he said it was a sealed system problem and we would need a factory technician to check this out because they do not service sealed systems-$50 for the service call. The GE tech arrived and confirmed the problem and said the repair would cost $800, but the service call was another $79.95. The part that apparently failed and the GE tech went right to was a copper line in the rear of the unit. It had oil leaking from the unit. Because of the new type of refigerant used, when this line leaks it contaminates the compressor and the evaporator. The GE tech said the copper line had numerous holes in the line. The unit is right at two years old. The technician knew right where to go look. A two year old copper line failed, or I feel was either under designed or too cheap to provide years of service and was designed to fail in a short period. I have had to purchase a new refrigerator. It is not a GE, nor will I EVER purchase another GE product-I would rather do without before I spend my money on designed obsolescents. In my neighborhood of 74 homes, I know of two other units that have also failed. That's a failure rate for the same unit of 4.05%; all occurring at approximately the same age of about two years. A friend is a service tech for another company and he says these units are known for poor quality. Called GE service and was informed the latch could not be replaced by itself. Only way to fix it was to buy a new door at a cost of $350 plus the cost of labor. After complaining to GE, they agreed to fix it under the 1 year warranty even though it was out of warranty by one month.
In December 2008, the inside latch on the left door broke off. E-mailed them and told them there was a design flaw with this refrigerator. The hinge is nothing but a thin piece of plastic that holds the latch. It should have been made of metal. Told GE it was absurd to spend $350 for a new door plus labor costs just because a part that probably only costs less than $5 failed. GE responded and said they would give me a discount on a new door. Told them I would not spend a penny because it would only be a matter of time before one of the hinges would break again. Told them I would never buy GE appliances again. The repair technician that came out in October 2006 told me this was a common problem with these French Door refrigerators and that the latch was not really necessary - it was only there to keep the door from popping open. When I asked him why GE would use cheap plastic instead of metal he told me to look inside the door at the label and look to see where the refrigerator was made. That would explain everything. When I looked it said the refrigerator was made in Mexico. He told me that since GE switched manufacturing to Korea and Mexico, the quality as went down hill. Like everyone else here, I will never again buy GE appliances. I thought buying the GE Profile line (also bought a GE Profile range and microwave) at the same time) I was buying a top quality product.

Upon taking out the bin, we noticed the plastic in the back of the auger/bucket assembly had broken off and was causing the problem. The refrigerator was not under warranty and I had to order a new bucket/auger for $120. The problem occured again in 2007 and I had to order the same part. As of writing this email in December 2008, we are again encountering the same issue and have had to order another replacement.
Besides being a costly nuisance, this has become a safety concern of ours. The plastic pieces that break off range from small to larger chunks and are sometimes frozen within the cubes themselves. I've seen other postings about this issue. GE really needs to change the design and start using stainless steel to replace the plastic part that continues to break. Additionally, I think GE should reimburse consumers who have had to replace this part.

In October 2003 I purchased the 19.94 cu. ft. GE Model # GSS20IEPWH side by side refrigerator. I’d had the unit for only about 6 months before I had to place the 1st call for repair. Since that time I’ve had to call numerous times for various and sometimes the same problems over and over and over again. In the beginning when I would speak to the person on the phone I kept trying to get someone to see that there was a problem if I had to keep calling a repairman out to fix a brand new refrigerator but I was told that I had to follow their “protocol meaning that I’d have to have the repairman come out to repair the unit then call them and they would go from there. So I did that. A few times. I was then told that it was a “moisture recall problem so they replaced the doors.
In the past, the board on the back of the refrigerator had been replaced about 2 times because the unit stopped getting cold which caused me to lose all of my food both times. The icemaker stops dispensing cubed ice and will only dispense crushed ice OR NONE AT ALL. The ice crusher solenoid has been replaced 3 maybe 4 times. The icemaker ITSELF has been replaced numerous times. The ice auger motor has been replaced a couple of times. The heater, the defrost thermostat, the sensor and the water valve have all been replaced. OH…did I mention that the doors have also been replaced. On November 20, 2008 I had to call again and the repairman came out and replaced the board yet again because, just 1 week before Thanksgiving, the unit stopped getting cold again. Two weeks later I had gotten crushed ice and while drinking out of my glass I took a big gulp and felt something in my mouth. The washers (2 of them) from the ice bucket had fallen out while the ice was dispensing into my glass. Do you realize how detrimental that could have been if I had actually swallowed that metal???? At the time I didn’t realize that they were washers. So, once again, I had to call GE for repair. The repairman came out on December 8th, said that I needed a new ice bucket, which by the way, has been replaced in the past also! I had to manually take the bucket out in order to get ice which defeats the purpose of having the dispenser in the door. I received the ice bucket on December 15th. When I put the new bucket in it still was not dispensing ice. I called the technician who told me to take a hand held blow dryer and defrost the back of the freezer which I did and it worked. As I mentioned before, over the years, I’ve tried very hard to get the unit replaced because there are lemons in every batch and obviously there is something wrong with this unit. What it is I don’t know but there is no way that I am supposed to be having the types of problems that I’ve been having with this. The repairman was told to call the Technical Assistance Group when he came out. He’s done that a couple of times and still the same problems continue to arise. Each time the unit fails I have to make an appointment, find someplace to either store my food or buy bags of ice to tide us over. I have to tell my supervisor that I am once again, staying home to await the GE repairman. After awhile that gets old. I know I am repeating myself, but I’ve tried over and over to get someone to understand that there is a problem and that I should not be having these types of problems and I really need your assistance in getting the unit replaced. Back in July we purchased a frost free freezer. From the beginning we our freezer started to have frost build up on the top portion of the freezer. We contacted the dealer where we purcased the freezer and they came out serveral times. The last time they came here, I believe they were told by GE to change the door seal. Well that did not do solve the problem. So the dealer was told by GE for me to call them. I called GE on 12/15 and first spoke to a Joyce. She said we had two options. 1) they will give me 2 years of additional warranty or 2) they will refund me what I paid, but that I had to send them the power cord, the tage and proof of purchase. I told her will have to call her back, as I had to discuss this with my husband. I called GE back this morning and spoke with a Pamela and everytime I would aske her a question she would put me on hold, so I asked to speak to her supervisor. I then spoke to Corey. He confirmed my options. I asked him what happens to the freezer after I cut the cord and he basically told me its ours and its our responsibility. I asked him if he would reimburse me for having someone haul it away and he said no. I asked him to put everything in writing, and he said they don't do that. So I told him, how do I know that they will pay me the FULL amount that I paid and he said then we would not be having this conversation. In other words, I'm to trust that they will refund me in full. He said he will check and see if they can send me a letter. If they can, it will take 3 to 5 days. I asked him to email it to me and he said he cannot. I asked him to call me back with an answer as to whether or not they can sent me a letter. Do I have the right to ask that they put things in writing and are they obligited to do it? Also, is it my responsiblity to haul the freezer away, at my expense?

I wish I would have found your website before I bought my GE fridge. I didn't have much a choice - our builder only used a GE distributor which now I am wondering if it's a distributor of bad GE products that reputable businesses would not sell. We have had this profile fridge (model #PSS26MGTDDBB) for 2 years however it started having problems in the first year. The doors would not seal properly and when the technicians came out (3 times) I was told that the door gets blocked by something - so it's my fault. NOTHING was blocking the door and when it closes it doesn't make that suction sound that other fridges I've owned make. They said that's just how they work! When I tried to contact customer service we were given the run around and when I said I wanted it replaced they basically laughed at us. My husband says it's always making weird noises and of course the tech said that that's normal! I swear I think they are trained to say that as an answer for everything. When the warranty extention came up it was way more than we could afford and now I know why - GE knows what crap they make and need to cover their repair costs so they charge exorbitant warranty costs. So now I have a new problem - a couple weeks ago the cooling system stopped working. We adjusted the temps and it eventually got back to normal. Yesterday it happened again. I called GE and they came out - turns out the fan wasn't working and the computer board needed to be replaced - at a cost of $280 which he said was a special deal. I said they should pay and they ended up paying for the part but I still had to pay for the labor. Well, the deal was no longer offered and the labor jumped to $180. (was 150 with the deal) I still don't know why the fan couldn't simply be replaced. I tried to argue but got nowhere. I needed it fixed because my food was being ruined. Items in my veggie compartment froze as well as the water line - so I could not get water dispensed either. Because the cold air was not circulating, it stayed down below where the water tank is as well as the veggie bin - so both froze up. Then I had the tech look at the doors again because they just don't seem to close tightly - of course the answer was...that is normal. This is such a poorly designed unit and after 2 years should be running fine. I tried arguing with GE to get my money back or a replacement but they offered a prorated model at a cost I couldn't believe - I could buy a much better non GE unit for less! And they won't refund my repair costs. I want to write to the CEO but he'd probably never see it and I can't seem to find the name of a VP of customer service. What can we all do? I'm sure this isn't the end of the problems.

We purchased our home in May 2002 and received A GE Model #GSS20IEMBWW (side by side refrigerator) included for an extra price. Within 6 months we had to have the refrigerator serviced. The ice maker has never fully worked correctly, the trays in the refrigerator for the vegetables have never cooled properly and it has a constant hum that I hear even in the dead of sleep. The control board had to be replaced also with the fan. I was told on that first repair that a control board almost NEVER goes out on a refrigerator. It had to be fixed about 3 months after that, again. It was pretty apparent we are dealing with a lemon. I called GE and complained and they stated that basically it was their policy to fix the unit until it was unfixable. And they would replace any spoiled food. We pretty much put up with the unit all these years and it's getting to the point that I am having to repair it just about yearly it seems. My milk is once again spoiled and my refrigerator is not cooling. The control board has been replaced twice, luckily both times under a warranty. But the fan also went out again and I had to pay for that. I am tired of having it fixed and want a new refrigerator. But something inside of me feels like I should not have to buy a new refrigerator after only 6 years. You used to be able to keep these types of appliances for 20+ years. I have other brand appliances in the house and NEVER had as much problems as I have with this GE product. I think the fan is out again so I guess I will be replacing it, yet again. Maybe we will get lucky and it is the control board again. But I still have to pay $70+ in service call fees.

Boy was I wrong, seems that only parts that are covered are the sealed compressor, evaporator and sealed tubing. Not the expensive "circuit board" that controls everything. After $218.86, it is back up and running, had I known about the warranty I would not have bought a GE! Funny thing is, the 1973 "Harvest Gold" refrigerator that I put out in my garage when I bought this new on is still running and I have never had to have it fixed or repaired. I purchased several GE and Bosch appliances from my local dealer when I was doing a complete remodel of my kitchen and laundry in 2005. The most problematic is the refrigerator. It's a bottom freezer with a regular full-sized swing door on top.
About three months ago, when the refrigerator was barely three years old, it started to fail to keep the temp regulated. I called my local appliance store where I purchased these items, on their recommendation, and the serviceman came out and told me I needed to replace a board, that that would be over $200, and there would be an installation charge as well, and only a 30-day warranty on the board. I was more than a little upset. The replacement was made and so far, so good, but I'm more than a little peeved that my 3 year old refrigerator has to have a new computer already and there's no guarantee it won't need another one. Now yesterday I discover that the longest door shelf is breaking. The bottom of the shelf has an ever-so-slight (quarter-inch?) lip that comes forward from the bottom and curves up to overlap the long clear piece runs across the front of the entire shelf, and that quarter-inch plastic piece is cracked and breaking off in pieces. Soon, it will be a complete mess. The problem is the design and cheapness of the assembly. There is no supporting mechanism in the middle of that shelf that runs the length of the door, it sags with time and weight, and everything then is out of alignment, putting stress on that quarter-inch tall extension of the bottom, which then cracks and breaks away. Why there is no support in there, in a shelf designed to hold entire gallons of milk, is simply an under-designed and ridiculous concept, an "accident" just waiting to happen. Every time I open the freezer, more pieces of plastic fall on the ground. I've taken to collecting them in a small jar.

A technician from GE came out and said it was the control board and ordered one. A week later he came back and installed it. A few weeks later the same problem is back. The same technician came out again today and asked me why I didn't keep the big clump of ice in the icemaker for him to see. I told him it was exactly the same as last time. Apparently he reported in to GE and said he found no problem and left without doing anything. I called the executive office and they were not helpful either. Saying another service call would have to be made and not to throw out the ice and have them see the water dripping onto (and damaging) the hardwood floor.

My feeling is that it is the design of the ice making system and its physical location that is the problem. Not enough cold air from the freezer gets into the ice compartment which happens to be in the refrigerator compartment that is kept warmer than what is required to keep water frozen. In a side by side the ice maker is in the freezer and you won't get that problem.

I purchased condominium unit #405 of Discovery at Cortez in September of 2002. I purchased this unit new with all new high-end? (I was told by Bosa) GE appliances and central forced air-conditioning and heat. I have taken immaculate care of my condominium for both myself and my very exclusive tenants, yet there have been numerous problems in the past six years. These problems have been and continue to be very costly for me. I am requesting that Bosa and/or GE pay for all repairs needed at this time. I am also requesting that the cost of all past repairs be reimbursed as well.

    1. In 2006, the motor of my GE dryer needed to be replaced, which cost me approximately $500.00. #WSM2700WCWWW and #ZA600356W

    2. In August of 2008, my tenant did not have hot water for over three weeks. I had to reimburse my tenant $200.00 for rent just so she wouldn't move out.

    3. In July of 2008, the electronic temperature controls on my GE refrigerator stopped working, so there is no way to set the freezer and refrigerator temperatures properly. The freezer is now running too warmly, so all of my tenants frozen food had to be discarded. I will have to reimburse her of course. #PSC23NGMDWW and #VA409808

    4. My GE microwave oven works for now, yet it makes a very loud noise while it is in use. It sounds like it is about to break or blow up. #JVM1850WD001 and #TA966378S or 5

    5. Finally, the central forced air-conditioning and control panel in my unit are no longer working.

My condominium is only six years old. It is very clear that I have been sold Lemon? appliances and products with my condominium. Again, I am requesting that Bosa and/or GE pay for all repairs needed at this time. I am also requesting that the cost of all past repairs be reimbursed as well.

Had service man come out - they said it is an insulation problem in the door - could not fix. I have researched online and found many - many - many people with the same problem with your product. Will GE not stand by their product?? The repair person that came out said, "Don't buy GE. Stay with Whirlpool products." The next appliance I buy will be Whirlpool. I have a Whirlpool dishwasher and oven that is about 38 years old and have never had one problem with them. Guess I should have purchased a Whirlpool fridge. Live and learn. Will GE stand behind this product - since there are many- many complaints for the same problem with GE refrigerators? What can GE do? Very unhappy :(

My GE Hotpoint refrigerator stopped dispensing water from the door; the ice dispenser still worked fine. I went to the Home Depot store where I purchased the fridge and was told that the extended warranty I purchased expired in August 2008. So, I called a local repairman who told me that the problem was probably in the freezer door, that the water was freezing in the line (he tested the water at all other available areas and it worked fine) and that I would have to call a GE technician for repair or replacement since they would either have to replace the door or install a heater. I was quite surprised that they already had a part - a heater no less - to solve this, but I called and was visited by two technicians today.

They did not move the refrigerator. They did not do anything to it after I told them that water came out fine from the connector line at the bottom of the refrigerator. I also told them I had talked to a repairman and visited a few consumer blogs and knew that the issue was a design flaw in the unit. While they were very tactful and refused to say anything about the situation, it was evident to me that they have dealt with this before. They already had a HEATER for a freezer door in the truck and they spent about five minutes outside, out of earshot, talking. It does not take five minutes to retrieve a part from a truck.

I was upset because they came in and told me the bill would be around $180 for parts and labor. I told them I would be happy to pay for a service visit but I thought it unfair to charge me for parts and labor to repair a design flaw. They offered me the number for consumer relations, and when I called and spoke to Candace, she waived the price of the part, or about $63. I asked for the labor to be waived as well, since it makes sense if the part to repair the problem is free, the labor to install the part to repair their design flaw should also be free. I told her it was not fair to charge customers for the repair of a design flaw - that is quite dishonest and unethical. She told me that the appliance was out of warranty, and GE was only waiving the cost of the part and had no other responsibility to me.

Just over two years ago, we purchased a GE Profile (Model: PSC25MSTSS). In the past few months we have had several issues:

    1. Cracked lining in the freezer (thin, straight line crack starting at the rear of the ice maker and has worked its way all the way to the front of the freezer)

    2. Unit will not cool

Before I continue, the service we have received has been excellent from the service personnel and they are always timely. However, the issues are still not resolved. After nearly five service calls now, we still have a cracked liner and the unit is not cooling. They replaced the electronics and now are going to order another part that will cost nearly $80.00. On top of that, the service repair costs, etc. We are working with consumer relations now on getting a full replacement as their patch for the crack (Silicone) has been a fatal attempt. GE is known for quality, this is not a quality repair for a side-by-side that cost approx. $2,500+.

I'm interested if anyone else is experiencing cracks. By the way, for the second issue, the part is going to take 1 full week to get in...in the meantime we are supposed to use a hair-dryer to remove the ice off the defrost fans. GE = Quality? I'm not convinced and surely hope that GE steps up to their product better than our experience thus far. Hope others chime in so we can learn from their issues as well. Finally, we are more than welcome to do a 60%/40% cost split (GE = 40% of the cost) for a comparable product that I was informed costs nearly 3,000...you do the math on that...I certainly would not go back to GE if they will not fix the manufacturer default cracked lining.

On August 15th, a GE Refrigerator that I had purchased the year before broke down. I contacted GE for service only to be told that the soonest that a repairman could get out to my house was a week. So after making the appointment, we waited for the repairman. When the gentleman showed up, we were told that the part was not covered and it would be over 300 dollars to repair. Needing a refrigerator, we of course told him to order the part and waited patiently for it to arrive a week later. When the part arrived, the repairman returned only to find that they had sent the wrong part. We were told that the right part would be on its way and so we waited another week.

The day before the repairman was to return, we received a call advising us that the part was on back order and now the part would not be available until October 2nd. October 2 came and went and still nothing. I called GE today to find out the status of my service call only to be told that now the part was on back order until November. I asked to speak with the customer service department and told them of my problem. When I was connected, their response was that there was nothing that could be done because my warranty had expired. When I told them I felt they should replace the unit, their only concession was they would pay half for a Comparable replacement. This refrigerator is less than 2 years old and cost in excess of $1500 yet it has lasted less than my previous refrigerator that was still working after 4 years had purchased used for $200.

I currently possess a 400 lb paperweight that use to be my refrigerator. I have been unable to store food or medication within my home due to lack of a refrigerator. This has resulted in my family having to shop and eat day to day, many more trips to the market, eating out more often or not at all due to our inability to store food. This has cost us in excess of $200 to $300 more a month in food costs. This does not even cover the cost of the future repair or replacement of the refrigerator.

GE is now replacing parts a second time and no one will recommend replacement. Our customer wants the unit removed and is holding our final payment until the issue is resolved. He took the information we gave him and decided to order a new computer board/relay panel. Luckily, this is under full warranty for another 12 days (one year quickly approaching). When I asked how long he would then guarantee the part and work, he told me only until the warranty expires (by the time it is installed), which will be about a week. I called Customer Service and the woman I spoke to there informed me parts and work are covered for 5 years. I wanted something in writing. She sent me to Customer Relations. They told me nothing would be covered after the one year expires in 12 days.

I asked what faith that is suppose to give me about the quality of the part or repair. All she would say is, "I'm sorry, we've fulfilled the terms of the warranty." I informed her I will never buy another GE product again. $2000 for a refrigerator that busts just short of a year, and there is no warranty or guarantee that the new part will last another year. That's crap! On top of this, the repairman couldn't wait long enough to offer to sell me an extended warranty - another four years for $99. What a scam! Warranty covered it, but the door continues to open too far, creating an un-level platform for the lower rack to travel on. The rack constantly jumps off track, and now the plastic wheel axles are breaking from climbing over the bump as it rolls into the dishwasher cavity.

The refrigerator compressor whines now, and the water dispenser quit recently. Solenoid makes noise, Interior temp @ water hose coil is 41 degrees(via raytech infra red thermometer). Repair man came out for free repair due to product being under one year old, I believe the capacitor went. Very unusual I was told.

Dishwasher installed, leaked from door panel, again repair man came, took a while to find leak then asked me if there were any more parts. Answer was no. His answer was that it was missing parts from the inside door panel, that had to happen at factory. New parts ordered and were installed.

Refrigerator taken out of box that showed no damage, once outside the box discovered that the freezer door was dented. Called GE to see what they would do, and now being that (30) days have passed since I purchased the product they are not responsible for any damage. I pointed out my delays and that fact that the item was in their original packaging that showed no damage how was I to know that there would be a dent in the door. My answer from them was that I was to unwrap every item and inspect them for damage or missing items, I told them the repair man (GE) sent had a hard time finding the missing parts but I am suppose to find them.

The stove in not even going to be installed.

I am not happy with GE poducts at this point and my customer's are not happy.Customer is not going to eat the dented door, it will be me as GE says its not their problem and the delivery people are not at fault either for everything arrived in good order (appearence wise). Recently, I placed my 3rd call in less than 3 months for the same problem that I've had since I purchased it - the refrigerator portion stopped cooling. On the first 2 calls, technicans (always polite) have changed out parts and indicated that there wasn't anything else the could do. GE's Spoiled Food policy does not even come close to covering the cost of spoiled food.

In trying to escalate the problem on the phone to supervisors, I find that there is no one who can or will help resolve the problem. The cost of spoiled food payments, technician time, etc. has far exceeded the cost it would have been just to replace the unit, which is obviously a lemon.

I get nowhere. Now, I will wait 4 days for a service technician to come yet again, while I have to take time off from work to wait for the technician.

At no time in the future will I ever purchase a GE product. Their customer service policies are disgraceful and, at any opportunity, I will tell my story.

Somewhere along the way, I will save up the money, take my business elsewhere, and purchase another refrigerator.

The waste of time and money is deplorable. The inconvenience caused to me, GE's customer is unbelievable - it's a refrigerator for goodness sake! It has taken up my time, wasted my money and caused incredible aggrevation through the years.

It overheated to the extent that it burned the bulb sockets and adjacent enclosure and severely blistered the liner behind the heat shield. The door was closed when I made this discover and the temperature was at set-point.

I am an ISA Certified Instrument Technician for an engineering firm which enables me to pool technical resources. From the pool, a Sr. Electrical Engineer concluded that the fixture is thermally under-rated (at very least) or there is an intermittent wiring defect (at worst). An intermittent wiring defect is sufficient enough to cause severe property damage and/or personal injury. Either way, this is an engirneering safety recall issue.

The service technician that responded to my initial inquiry was excellent. Nonetheless, he indicated their inability to do more than replace the damaged parts on the refrigerator. I am convinced that this overlooks the root cause of this potentially hazardous condition and is nothing but a stop gap measure to get an inherently defective piece of equipment through its warranty period. My wife and I are simply afraid to use this refrigerator because of it's fire hazard.

So I make a another call to ge appliance and they say someone will be calling me from the repair shop 2 days later, my food has gone bad again, my freezer was 70 degrees inside. The repairman shows up and replaces another part. I call ge to claim more food loss since they didnt fix it properly the first time and they told me 1 have only 1 claim per life of the contract. BEWARE OF THIS, the repairman are contractors and are not motivated to properly fix the issue, coming back 2X is more $$ for them. But I am out of luck on recouping any of my second round of food loss.

So I wait 3 weeks and no check nothing. I call GE at the 3 week mark and i am told that I can only claim $100 total ever. I asked what happened to my prior claim and why I was NEVER contacted once (even tho they have my address and phone number) to fix the issue, the agent proceeded to tell me they didnt know. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he wa a manager, (i have been told this 2X by different agents at GE apparently they are told to claim they are all managers) I asked him to process my claim for $100 and he told me i would have my check is 5-7 days.

I asked to speak to who ever his boss is, I was given a nice 15 minute dose of hold therapy by them and then a lady came on the phone. She said that she saw the other lady had taken my claim but didnt know why she did that or what happened to it I asked her how long my reduced claim would take to get here and she told me 7-10 days.... DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING GE AGENTS TELL YOU ON THE PHONE. THEY SAY ANYTHING AND YOU CAN HAVE ZERO ASSURANCE THAT ANYTHING WILL EVER BE RESOLVED. I still have not recieved a DIME in food loss costs. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY A GE APPLIANCE/LIGHT BULB/ WATCH NBC (owned by GE) EVER AGAIN.

I had purchased a new house with all new GE appliances in the kitchen. The frig M/N GSH25JFTA-BB has been freezing over a number of times. The defrost circuit on the motherboard has failed. I have read the history on these boards and the only obviuos way to repair this is by re-wiring the entire defrost circuit with an external timer. The boards cost approx. $105 every 18 months. The timer cost $25 and as long as you understand basic refrigeration circuits any one can wire one in. The boards do have a recall but to this day I have not found the number to receive the new board for free.

The ending cost was about $30 to perminently repair the issue. A GE Tech charges $70 per visit. By the 2nd visit he will have the part and will fix the problem, so even if you get the board for free you have to spend $140 in labor. No one wins that does even account for the cost in food you also lose. GE is just junk, I would not reccomend to purchase their products.

I just hate it because companies no-longer stand behind their product and I really like the GE design (hence why I furnished my whole house with their appliances) but I now have to find another company to buy appliances from.

I will never purchase another GE appliance no matter how cheap it is and I can only hope that this message with prevent another person from going through the same. This page of complaints is long for a reason and it is not because we have nothing better to do with our time.

The thing that sucks is that I am now going to have to pay $70 bucks for someone to come out and tell that it is broke (which I already am aware of)then depending on the cost to fix I might have the pleasure of forking over some more money. I, unfortunately, purchased a GE refrigerator in 2003. This piece of junk is, without a doubt the very WORST appliance I have ever owned. The bottom part which holds the crispers are made of cheap plastic what cracks and shatters to the point where there is nothing left to hold the crispers in place. They are now sitting on the floor of the refrigerator.

We have no small children who abuse the refrigerator; it has been subjected to normal use and yet it is literally falling to pieces. I used to think that GE was a good brand of appliance, but no more. I would never buy ANYTHING made by GE. Is their junk made in China?

Cheap plastic becomes brittle from cold and shatters and/or falls apart. Must now buy a new refrigerator to replace this VERY INFERIOR appliance.

I am writing to you to complain about my defected GE Profile side by side refrigerator (Model # PSC25SGSCSS and Serial # DL440662) and the horrible service from GE Service to date. For over a month and a half, I am having a problem with the cooling in my refrigerator that is 2 years old.

On 7/18/08 one of GE repairman came to my house to check out the cooling issue and repair the refrigerator. He had stated that there is ice in the refrigerator that is blocking off the cool air from coming out and cooling the food. He has requested from me to provide him with a hairdryer and he tried melting down the ice and he said that this should resolve the cooling problem. Also, he signed me up for a 3 year warranty contract # 309-9397992, since he said that this refrigerator can give me more problems in the future.

Obviously, the repair did not work, so on 8/7/08, a different GE repairman came and stated that the 1st repairman didn't know what he is talking about and ordered a part that would fix the problem. However, the part would be mailed to my house within 3 to 5 business days and a repairman will come on 8/14/08. This was not acceptable since how can we be without a functioning refrigerator for so many days? So that day, after talking once again to customer service and being very frustrated that I will be with a non-functioning refrigerator for so many days and I have a 5 years old child and a 1 years old baby at home, the customer service representative stated that there is nothing she can do and it will come whenever. To our surprise, the part was sent to my house the next day, so once again I had to call GE Service to cancel the appointment for 8/14/08 and reschedule.

When I called again to schedule a repair appointment, the customer service representative has scheduled me for 8/11/08 and then someone called me the next day to cancel the appointment and reschedule me for 8/12/08 since the GE repairman will not be in my neighborhood that day. Finally at 2PM on 8/12/08, the 1st repairman came back (the one that used the hairdryer to melt the ice) and installed the part that was ordered and said that now the refrigerator should be fine.

To our surprise, the refrigerator is still not cooling properly and I had called again on 8/19/08 to get a repair appointment. The refrigerator should be 37 degrees and is currently 56 degrees and the freezer should be 0 degrees and is currently on 9 degrees. However, the only date available was 8/25/08 which was not acceptable, but they told me take it or leave it. If the repairmen do not know what they are doing, they should not work for GE. So on 8/25/08 a repairman from Cool Power (subcontarct for GE) came and stated that he has seen hundreds of these refrigerators with the same cooling problem. He had stated that he needs to order a whole new temperature contol board and kit and that can take 7 to 10 business days.

Afer contacting GE Customer Relations today (8/28/08), the manager that I spoke to said that she is sorry but the part will be sent to me by the end of next week 9/4/08 and then a repairman will have to come again. God only knows how long that will take. This is not acceptable. She offered me $50 compensation for a refrigerator rental. How will I get a refrigerator into my house? Do I need to spend more money on this issue? Where will I place it - in the living room? We cannot live with this frustration anymore. We are throwing on a daily basis spoiled food and milk. My baby is 1 years old and needs to drink whole milk on a daily basis. I am constantly trying to save the milk by placing the it in ice buckets. What age do we live in?

To date, I have been talking to lots of GE customer service representatives who cannot do anything besides read off from their scripts "we apologize for the inconvenience". This does not help; it just gets us more frustrated that they cannot send a repairman the next day. Do you know how much money I spent on this issue? Hundreds. With tough economy these days, this does not help out. If my baby will get sick because of spoiled food and milk, we will have to meet GE in court. As a matter of fact, a co-worker of mine has the same cooling issues with his GE Profile refrigerator. Perhaps this model should be recalled and they are not doing anything. I would appreciate your assistance ASAP.

Last January I puchased a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator Model # PSS23MSW. The on going problem with this refrigerator is an intermittent loud vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment along with frost/ice build up right under the icemaker. The noise first started right after the refrigerator was delivered last February. The first service call for this problem was on February 18, 2008.

In March the ice maker quit and was then replaced on March 21. In April this second ice maker quit and was replaced by yet another on April 18th. The intermittent loud vibrating/clicking noise became noticeable once again. On June 14th the repairman came out and replaced the fan in the freezer to correct the intermittent vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment. Within 48 hours the intermittent noise was back.

My next call for service was on Monday, June 16th. To date his refrigerator has required six service calls and the next call, the seventh, is scheduled for September 4th. I consider this refrigerator a lemon and would like it replaced with a new one. The total number of service calls which include multiple replacements of the ice maker and multiple attempts to correct the loud vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment are definite quality issues with this refrigerator. For these service calls I have had to take time off work which is quite costly to me and my employer. I will never purchase another GE appliance and always warn others against purchasing a GE appliance.

I am going to start telling everyone how lousy GE products have become. We purchased a refrigerator in October 2005. By 2007, refrigerator was no longer freezing and was leaking all over the hardwood in kitchen. It has destroyed the hardwood floor where it sits. We contacted the store we purchased the product from as it was still under warranty. They sent out a GE tech who replaced a part.

Three weeks later, refrigerator was not working again, GE tech came out and replaced another part. 11 months later, Refrigerator is not cooling again, we get another GE tech. Only this time, the warrantee has expired. We find that the door is defective and there was a recall on the product for which it was publicly announced and we should hav known about this.

However, the question is: We called the store and questioned why the technicians from GE did not tell us and were given the answer that they probably did not know. Our response was: how the hell should we have known when they claim the three technicians who serviced the refrigerator did not know. Do they think we were born yesterday? The technicians knew but tried to get the fridge operating until the recall had expired. Bad, bad, bad. This is why our country is in decline. Shoddy workmanship and no accountability. Both my husband and I are in upper management and work with the public. We are going to let everyone know how GE operates. Dawn in Oakland, NJ

From water under the refrigerator, hardwood has been damaged and this is the second time we have lost a freezer full of food. I am aggravated.

Shame on you GE for allowing me to continue with the repairs each year since 2004 for same problem then not sending the repairman on a timely manor so I did not lose everything in food! I will let others know of your practices via Internet. I am so angry about the money I lost!

I lost $600.00 in food and was told BILL B. would send me a lousey $100.00 and Elsa E. told me I can only get $75.00 because it was nOT repaired according to thier policy in 2008! no one showed up to repair it and I was told to wait another 5 days that they would send someone! I had to have a cold refrigerator NOW not 5 more days from then. what [bad] customer service these GE people have! Now my husband will be losing his active duty job in january 2009. I called customer service last week and there are surprisingly no service technicians in our area and there have been no recalls on my frige. I told them I was scared it was going to cause a fire because it keeps whirring and making a funny noise going on and off. The person seemed to have no concern and told me to look in the yellow pages for a tech certified with GE repair. since my warranty expired advising me to call a local appliance techinician was all they offered me but they did take my name, address and Im sure they have my phone call recorded right along with all the other people who've had faulty refrigorators. Our GE Profile Artica refrigerator, manufactured 5/2003 and purchased in 7/2003, has recently began acting up. At first we began to notice a sudden increase in frost and ice on the inside of the freezer. Then a few days ago we noticed the temperature was increasing in both the freezer and refrigerator.

We removed the food from the freezer and cleaned the coils. The compressor was cool to the touch and the fan was running. The next morning the temps had returned below their set points (-3 freezer 36 fridge). While I was replacing the back cover I noticed that the compressor was extremely hot and the fan was not running.

I watched for awhile to see if the fan would restart. I noticed the upper cover, placed my hand on it and found it to be very hot. Thinking that this may be a second compressor, I removed the screws. The cover was stuck pretty good and needed to be pried slightly to get it off. As I removed the cover I saw that the entire cover was black with soot and there was damage to the wiring and electrical board. Suddenly the was an arch and the electrical panel and wiring burst into flames.

I was able to unplug the unit and extinguish the fire before the flames extended to the wall, window coverings and cabinets. I am unsure if the oxygen supply in the circuit panel area would have been sufficient to allow fire to escape the refrigerator or not. If it had, this could have been catastrophic.

I have been researching this and have found a couple of references to GE products and fires with at least one involving a refrigerator. I am not sure where to go with this as the unit only had a one year warranty. I did not however expect a $1200 unit to quit in 5 years and never anticipated it to start on fire. Expected a $1200 refrigerator to last more than 5 years. Luckily fire was extinguished before spreading.

I learned that the latch is not available as a replacement part, meaning my only option was to purchase a whole new door for several hundred bucks.

A phone call to GE customer service provided absolutely no help at all. This latch is made of plastic and is housed in a flimsy plastic bracket which can be very easily broken ( a case of extremely poor mechanical design). I deeply regret buying a GE appliance. I have to be very careful to see that the door is pushed closed every time. or else the interior cold air escapes.

June 19th of 2007 we purchased a GE Side by Side model GSS23QGTA BB from Home Depot. This model comes with a digital control panel that displays the temperature in both the freezer and food compartments. The first button press shows the setting the user wants the unit to operate at and the second press shows the actual temps inside the unit.

Shortly after installation we noticed that the Ice Maker would make a large thunk sound intermittently when dispensing whole cubes. We called the service department and they sent us a new control panel for the door, with no instructions on how to install it and they did not schedule a service man to do it for us. I called and they instructed me over the phone how to replace it. Replacing the control panel had no effect on the problem so we called and had a service man come out.

The service tech came out and changed the activator switch on the icemaker lever that is pressed to start dispensing. He also put in another new control panel just in case the one we received in the mail was defective.

Neither of these changes fixed the problem and at the time nothing was done about the temperature. They scheduled a new appointment and we received a complete new ice make in the mail for the tech to replace when he arrived. The new parts were put in and while he was here verified that the problem still existed. He called the factory rep and the rep immediately knew that the problem was the activator switch that had already been replaced needed to be replaced by a different, heavy duty switch which the techs did not carry. So the part was ordered and another appointment was set up to install the new switch.

After the new switch was installed the thunk was resolved (for a while anyway). It was explained to us that the impact of whole cubes hitting the chute as they came out of the dispenser occasionally would cause the lighter duty switch to disengage and the thunk sound was the solenoid that activated the auger turn on and off. This fix lasted for a couple of months when again the situation started happening again, but at a much reduced rate.

After a couple of months we also noticed that the temperatures inside both the freezer and food compartment were nowhere near where the front panel said they were. The temperature inside the freezer which we had set at zero was usually closer to 28 degrees and the temperature inside the food compartment which was set at 34 was usually between 39 to 42 degrees as shown on a Kitchen Aid thermometer. The control panel values for what the actual temps were was not even close to what the thermometer indicated and never matched what we had configured it to be.

We called to have a tech come out to check the temperature problems. He replaced the main circuit board in the back of the unit. He also told us that we could not use a thermometer to determine what the temp was in the food compartment, it could only be accurately checked by measuring the temperature of a liquid since the temp fluctuates due to the defrost cycle in the freezer.

After a few days it was obvious that the temperature problems had not been resolved so we had another tech come out. Temperatures in the freezer was high enough that a rectangular box of ice cream left on its side that was half full would eventually have the remaining ice cream ooze to the side it was standing on. Also, Milk in the food section was never very cold and we were becoming concerned about the safety of the food quality.

We scheduled another service call and the tech replaced the main board with a newer version than the one previously installed. Apparently there had been some upgrades on the boards since the last one was installed. He also replaced the thermistors (the two sensors that detect the temp in the food compartment) with new ones. This resulted in the freezer temps improving but not the food side.

We scheduled another service call and the tech spent a lot of time with the factory rep on the phone. They scheduled another visit and this time they had all of the parts for both the interior of the freezer and food compartment mailed to us for the tech to replace. This service call was placed a few days before our year warranty was due to expire and the tech and factory rep both agreed that a Letter or Commitment? was in order since the issue was not resolved and the warranty was about to expire. The tech came back out after the parts arrived and replaced everything inside and changed both thermistors again.

We received the Letter of Commitment which extended the warranty until January of 2009 and also stated if the problem was not resolved to our satisfaction we could either schedule another service call or get a replacement unit at our discretion.

The temperature problems were not resolved so I called to ask for a replacement unit. I was informed that a tech had to come out to verify that the problem still existed so we scheduled the appointment.

The day he arrived I informed him the only reason he was here was to verity the problem so we could get a new unit. He was surprised at that and after verifying that the temperatures were still wrong asked to see the letter I had received. He called his office and I was given the option of replacing with a comparable unit, upgrading and paying the difference between the models or getting a different model of similar cost.

In all, we had at least 7 service calls over the span of a year.

Something that has really been bothering me and I wish someone could give me an answer on is this: during one of the service calls (I cant remember which one it was) I noticed something interesting on the service techs computer. Im a computer programmer and had been a weapons technician on a submarine when I was in the Navy so I know what I am seeing when I look at a diagnostic screen. There was an indicator for the temperature set by the owner and a different temperature called the target? temp. I asked the tech what the difference was between the two numbers. I was informed that the temperature set by the owner was just an indicator for the owners benefit, the actual temperature the unit was going to try and get to was the Target Temperature which was based on what the customer chose.

The user setting in the freezer was zero and the target temp was nine degrees, so there is always a nine degree difference between what the user selects and what the unit attempts to get to. I asked why the difference and was told thats how they get the energy star rating by reducing how much the unit has to work to get to the desired temperature.?

My wife is really annoyed about this. Her feeling and that of some friends we described this too is if GE is intentionally lying to the customer by saying you can set the temp to zero and intentionally preventing the unit from doing that, then that is fraud on GEs part. I asked two different service techs if it is possible through the use of the diagnostic tool if it was possible to configure the unit to make the target temp match what is set by the owner and was told no, it was not possible to do that. The target temp is set at the factory and the techs cant change it.

I have a friend who has a top of the line GE with similar control panel and he indicated that the temps on his unit match exactly with the panel indicators. I mentioned that to one of the service techs and he said that is because it is a better unit than the one I have.

The main consequence from this situation is time lost from work to be available for the technician and the frustration at having to go through all these problems. We purchased this GE because our old refrigerator was a GE that we bought USED in 1990 and was most likely 10 years old when we bought it. We thought from that experience that GE was a quality product, but see that there is no quality at all in the products they produce now. We would really like to get our money back and purchase something different, but I know that is not going to happen. We will have to take a replacement unit and hope we dont continue to have problems in the future. I can assure GE that we WILL NOT BUY GE PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE!

Nothing was ever said about the filter eliminator adaptor until I said something to the dealer about the cost of the replacement filters going up again. the dealer then told me that the refrigerator should have had the filter eliminator adaptor inside one of the plastic draws when it was delivered. and I told him if he remembered -- that I had to come back to the store to get all the paperwork on the unit as it was not inside the box when his crew delivered it. All I am trying to do is to get something that should have been there inside the box when it was delivered.

When I bought my townhouse new in June 2002, it came with all GE appliances which I paid a lot of money (I know it was $1,400 for whatever model I have) for in upgrades. This model of side-by-side refrigerator is the subject of a Class Act Civil Law Suit. When we first got notice of the law suit, we called GE for service on the refrigerator because the ice maker wasn't making ice properly. The service man replaced the ice maker. The problem seemed to be resolved for 1-2 weeks and then, it was doing the same thing once again. He came out and this time...they replaced the two front doors!

That seemed to make it better, but when we moved the refirgerator to clean under it last year, we noticed water damage on the baseboard from some pan that you can't get to overflowing. It's part of this frost-free problem. Now, here it is July 2008, and the refrigerator is TOO WARM and the freezer gets too cold. I looked online and found some info on what it could be. My boyfriend went into the freezer, took the panel off in the back and the coils are all frosted over! We have had to take a blow dryer and melt it two times...in the past 3 weeks.

I will NEVER ever buy GE again because of this! I've lost lots of food and my NF milk keeps spoiling..Wah! A refrigerator should last longer than this. My parent's have a washer/dryer that is 25 years old from Maytag and they have never had a service issue. GE- you should be ashamed of yourself!

$400 in food and now, I'm so fed up with dealing with the problems with this refrigerator that I will have to go buy a new one.

When it would not hold the temperature in the summer, we called again and were told it did not hold the set temperature in the hot weather. Now the unit has stopped working and is not covered by the original warranty. I refused to add the additional cost of an "extended warranty" so I am out of luck. I will never buy a GE appliance again and will urge all my friends and acquaintances to do the same. He replaced part and stated that it should start working shortly. After a few hours we determined no change and called GE again.

i spoke to their costumer service department which took complaint and transfered me to their Consumer Relations department stated that they were the ones which handle these disputes. Representative at this end did not know how to answer reason why tech did not check appliance and just assumed that it was the motherboard causing problem and just simply apologized and stated all they can do is reschedule service call for the 17th. I then had to take the day off of work and when technician arrived he stated that it was the thermostat that wa faulty and he needed to order part and would need to come back out and soonest that that could be done would be the 22nd.

I again called Consumer Relations to see if they can have somone out sooner than that because I have small children at home who have had nothing to eat at home because off refrigerator not working. Rep stated that they could not have anyone out sooner because parts needed to be ordered and it will not get here till Monday. Parts arrived on Saturday morining and I called again to request service call for Monday and again all they simply stated was that they will pu in a call to tech and see if that was possible I never heard back from them on Monday evening I called to check on cervice call for the next day and it was confirmed for between 8 and 12. at 12:30 when service guy had not arived I called again to find out why he had not arrived and again just received an apology that he was running late at another call. When srvice tech arrived he replaced part and stated that he set it at high and refrigerator would shortly start working. it did not.

Again I called Consumer Relations and explained my greeviences and how this was costing me time and money and again only received and apology and that they would reschdule for tech to come back tommorrow. I again took another day off of work and service tech never showed. When calling Consumer Relations department I again received another one of their famous apologies and that they will reschdule for tommorrow.

At this point I have lost over 1600 dollars worth of pay from my employment not to mention how upset my employer is at yet another day I will have to take off of work. and at no point in time does any of the supervisor I have spoken to made as much of an attempt to appeace my frustrations and either re-imburse me for monies spend to them or to try to schedule someone around my schedule or as late as possiple so that I dont have to miss another day of work they just simply state "I do apologize for any inconvenience, but all we can do is reschdule". I am at a loss of how they have handled or rather not handled this dispute specially when it has come down to their technician just simply not showing up.

as a result of this I and my husband have both missed days of work not to mention money spent on eating out because we can not keep any food in the house for our children. And I have gotten driven to a point where I want to physically go to their office and demand attention. I am exhausted and at my ends with this matter.

on 5/30/2008, GE sent repairmen from General keystone, Complete Appliance and A/C each of these repairmen believed the problem resulted from the replacement of the compressor in 2007, one stated that the problem is the result of sealed system contamination and the refrigerator should be replaced. GE sent the company that replaced the compressor in 2007 to my home to correct the problem.

After 2 visits to my home and countless telephone calls, they installed a new compressor that did not work. They researched it and said they have 240 of that model in Louisville and they will replace it for us. Great- Done deal! Then they called back and reneged and said that they can't ship from Louisville to Baltimore to NY (where I am located) they can only ship out of Baltimore and they don't have any in Baltimore.

So a month later without a refrigerator, take out for nearly every meal, and I have 2 kids I am told basically that I have to eat the difference which in my estimate comes to over $300.00 which does not include the $400.00 that I have had to throw away in food (approx $200.00 2x's) I am so disgusted in GE and how this was all handled and I will never buy another GE product. I do not agree with the amount of a refund and I am willing to take another exact refrigerator and they can do this, and they offered to and then they backed out.

economically I am out nearly 800.00

We purchased the GE Profile French Door refrigerator approximately 2 years ago. Since its purchase we had to have GE Service out to fix the handle on the freezer, a circuit board because the freezer wasn't cooling and finally the two refrigerator doors because a small latch was broken and the doors would not stay closed.

We are a family of 2 with occasional company so the unit was not abused in any way.....the unit is a piece of junk and is the last GE anything we purchase again.

2 service calls to date @ $100 each, circuit board replacement $269, door replacement $125 labor (no cost for doors)

Model # GSH22KGMWW Three service calls Class Act Cival Law Suit Case # 4569228 Since purchase, this side by side refrigerator/freezer has had temperature/ moisture problems. In the ice maker, ice cubes melt and then clump together and refreeze around the spiral plastic center shaft that pushes cubed ice into the door delivery chute. Most often when attempting to retrieve ice from the external dispenser the door itself is opened by the ice maker operation. Usually no ice is received without manually retrieving it by opening the door. I am also seen small shards of broken plastic delivered with the ice cubes, twice. Water from the ice maker falls to the bottom of the freezer compartment and DAILY forms a sheet of ice 1/2 to 3/4 thick. When the sheet of ice melts, and the door is opened, the water runs out onto our newly installed linoleum flooring which either is, or in time will be damaged.

This model was involved in a Class Action Civil Law Suit. We were given two options for resolution, which were $500 off a new unit or free door replacements. We opted for free door replacements and received them when promised at no charge to us. MAYBE this problem was resolved for 30 days, maybe.... I have called 800- and spoken with a Manager named JR Watts. I explained the problem to him and the issue has not been resolved. I asked for a replacement. He told me he could not replace the unit, as the law suit was closed. I explained to him the law suit is not closed for me, because the issue has not been resolved. He then told me the best he can do is give me a new GE refrigerator / freezer with a $400 discount.

Ok guys, let's get serious here. I am not going to be forced to spend $1000 +/- to resolve an issue that is your responsibility. I called again today asking one more time for resolution. I spoke w/Danielle. She offered only the same resolution to me that Mr Watts gave, which I told her is not acceptable. She then gave me the GE Appliance HQ address in Louisville KY and Mr Ray Graft's name. I am asking one more time for a replacement or equal value or a full refund as I do not feel I should be required to buy another GE product at this time. Next step, I will contact the BBB and / or local TV Stations as it is a mission of mine to have this made right at no cost to me.

New linoleum flooring has constant standing water on it around and underneath this unit because of melting ice running out of the freezer compartment. This too, will need to be fixed if damage is incurred.
