Frontpoint vs. ADT
Compare ADT and Frontpoint on home security features and costs
With so many choices and technologies on the market, shopping for a home security system can be confusing. Below, we compare two popular home security companies, ADT and Frontpoint, to help you decide if one is right for you.
What do Frontpoint and ADT have in common?
Frontpoint and ADT provide options for professional monitoring and customizable home security systems. Both ADT and Frontpoint offer wireless cellular-based services with similar equipment packages, including digital control panel, sensors, life safety devices, add-on security cameras and smart home components. With either company, you can customize a system or choose from prepackaged equipment.
Shared features between the two companies include:
- 24/7 professional monitoring options
- Customizable systems
- Similar equipment packages
- Mobile apps with smart home integration
How are Frontpoint and ADT different?
The biggest difference between the two companies might be that Frontpoint is designed for customers to easily install themselves, while ADT systems typically require professional installation. ADT also still offers a landline option, but Frontpoint systems are entirely cellular.
Frontpoint systems come with a limited three-year warranty. ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee along with a theft-protection guarantee that pays up to $500 of your insurance deductible if a burglary occurs when the system is armed. An ADT Extended Limited Warranty/Quality Service Plan (QSP) is also available.

Bottom line: Which is better, ADT or Frontpoint?
Frontpoint is best for customers who are comfortable with DIY installation. Customers who don’t have time to call for a quote can see prices and select equipment on Frontpoint’s website.
- Frontpoint is a good pick for renters: We suggest Frontpoint for renters because systems are easy to install yourself. Since they aren’t hardwired, it’s easy to take the system with you if you move.
- ADT is a good pick for homeowners: For customers who prefer professional installation with technicians to instruct on how to use the equipment, we suggest ADT. Customers who want to connect monitoring service to a landline should also go with ADT.
