What is Zealthy?
Zealthy is a virtual health care provider that’s been in business since 2023. It offers prescription drugs and telehealth appointments for services like mental health, primary care, erectile dysfunction, birth control and skincare.
However, it primarily serves patients seeking prescription weight loss solutions. The company provides care in 34 states and has medication options for those with and without insurance.
How does Zealthy work?
You must have a Zealthy membership to receive prescription weight loss drugs. This membership gives you access to unlimited chat and messaging with a weight loss coach and insurance coordinator, as well as a monthly video or phone visit with your provider.
- Step 1: To sign up, you must verify your identity and complete a questionnaire about your medical history and weight loss goals.
- Step 2: A provider will review your information within one to two days, and then contact you with treatment options if you’re eligible.
- Step 3: Once you have a prescription, a coordinator will review your insurance coverage, submit a preauthorization request and assist with payment. Patients without insurance can access affordable, compounded alternatives. Your coordinator then works with partnering pharmacies to get your prescription shipped directly to your home, typically within nine business days.
You can cancel your membership at any time, and you won’t be charged for the following month. Refunds are not available for prescription drugs or membership fees you’ve already paid.
Zealthy weight loss medications
Zealthy primarily prescribes glucagon-like peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1s) for weight loss. These drugs were originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, but are also approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat obesity. GLP-1s work by managing glucose levels and are most commonly self-administered by subcutaneous injection.
With insurance, patients may have access to brand name GLP-1s like:
- Ozempic
- Zepbound
- Wegovy
- Mounjaro
If you don't have insurance coverage or if these drugs aren’t covered by your plan, you’ll be prescribed a compounded drug. Compounded drugs are made with the same active ingredient as name brands, but are not FDA-approved. Options include:
- Compounded semaglutide, the main active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic.
- Compounded tirzepatide, the main active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro.
The only other medication that may be prescribed is metformin, another type 2 diabetes drug that helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Zealthy cost
There are two associated costs when using Zealthy: membership fees and medications.
- Membership fees: A weight loss membership costs $135 per month. You receive one-on-one coaching, access to medication and help with prescription coverage. The only medication included with this fee is metformin; all others must be paid for separately.
- Medications: Members are responsible for paying the cost of their medication.
- Brand-name drugs: When covered by insurance, drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy can cost as little as $25 per month or whatever your prescription copay is.
- Compounded drugs: Compounded semaglutide costs $151 per month, and compounded tirzepatide $216 per month when you purchase a three-month supply.
Patients without insurance can also bundle their membership and medication costs. A bundled membership with semaglutide costs $217 for the first month and $297 every month after, and with tirzepatide is $349 for the first month and $449 every month after.
Is Zealthy legit?
Yes, Zealthy is a legitimate company that employs board-certified clinicians and coaches. It also offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, so if you’re found to be ineligible for weight loss drugs, you can get a full refund.
In addition, the company only works with pharmacies that have been accredited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), are LegitScript certified and it only uses FDA-registered manufacturers and distributors to source raw materials for its compounded drugs.
