While I loved my sleep number, I recently found mold growth on the gray foam and the air mattress material. I had no idea this could happen! We have a mattress cover over the zipped cover. I really would like to know how this can be fixed. I have had my mattress for about 10-12 years. How long has it been there? It is quite a lot of growth. It is also on both sides of the bed. I have been having extremely bad migraines for about the last eight years. Wonder if this is the cause? I will have to look into that too!

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We think it’s really important to know that while situations like this are rare, mold can affect any upholstered product under certain conditions. Sleep Number is one of the industry leaders in using treatments that prevent the growth of mold or mildew in our products, and we’re happy to say that we've had no confirmed cases of mold in any Sleep Number® bed manufactured in or after 2005. We stand behind the quality of our products and we invite you to give us a call at 1-800-451-6340 if you haven’t disposed of your bed yet so we can help troubleshoot any issues you are experiencing. Is lack of disclosure still a lie? My husband and I purchased a new bed for ourselves for our 10 year anniversary. As a consumer, we have many choices when buying a new mattress. We unfortunately chose Sleep Number. We had a great experience at the store. The salesperson was nice and helpful. We have no complains there. When we are in the store we aren't sure if this nice mattress is worth the thousands of dollars it costs but were reassured that there was a 100 day guarantee.
Over and over we were told that if we were not 100% satisfied we could return the bed and just pay for the delivery. I don't know about you, but I have never sold mattresses myself so I guess it was my fault for trusting the expert at the store and believing what I was told. We decided to try it. What did we have to lose? A few hundred in delivery fees, worth it.
We have had our mattress for about 30 days and like it. We just don't love it - $$$$ thousands of dollars worth. So I called the customer service number to discuss the return process. We weren't even 100% sure we were going to return it yet. As I was on hold, waiting for a customer service representative to talk to, I was reading those pages of "fine print" on all the paper they gave us. I scanned over something about the "Flex base" and how it was not returnable. "WHAT?!?!" I was told that we had 100 days! Why would I buy a bed that if I don't like it, I can return it but only half of it? What am I supposed to do with the other half?
Is it my fault for not reading the "fine print" before signing something? Yes, and I understand that and will take responsibility for it. But is it ok for me to think that this company is in the business of tricking people into keeping their beds? Yes. I feel mislead. "If you don't love your bed, you can return it" (just not the base, which is half the price of the bed and that you can do nothing with if you return the mattress so you are going to be stuck keeping our bed anyhow. But we aren't going to tell you that part. Hehehe).
I did not feel as if we got "sold". I feel as if we were helped in buying a bed and tricked into keeping it. I also work in sales and for me, not disclosing information to my client is the same as lying to them. That is not how I do business and it is definitely not how to get customers, or how to keep them coming back. I am sorry that they made feel as if that is the way they do business. But Sleep number did help me do something. They helped me decide whether or not to return my bed. Can you guess what I am going to do?

We're sorry you aren't enjoying your bed, Kristen! We think it's important for you to know that our adjustable base models are all final sales, which is an industry standard practice due to their significant size and weight, which makes return shipping, storage and disposal difficult. We provide this information on our website, at the register in each of our stores, and on the receipt we ask you to sign once you complete your order, so this information should have been provided in your paperwork. If you don’t recall signing your receipt to confirm you understand your terms of sale while you were in the store, please send me a Private Message so I can locate your file and I can get in touch with your local store to check on this for you.
I also want you to know that the adjustable base is made to industry standard size, which means that you'll be able to continue to enjoy all of the features and benefits that initially interested you in our adjustable base with your next mattress in the same size.
While I wish our bed had been a better fit for you, we want you to know that we appreciate you giving our beds a try and we wish you the very best in your search for your perfect night's sleep. If you ever have any other questions or concerns we can assist with, please just let us know.

I purchased a Tempur-Pedic firm bed a year before buying the Sleep Number bed. The test at the store showed me that a firm bed was the wrong selection. The test required lying on a Sleep No. bed connected to a TV screen showing where pressure points of MY body were. At a firm number (present bed then) it was concentrated in a small area. As the sales lady reduced the number it spread out on my body which has after delivery of the new Sleep Number bed, maintained sleep comfort.. I like it and my three children and their husbands and wives like it too?

We just paid off the bed this month, and have now had the bed for an entire year. This bed was by far the biggest waste of money in our home. First off, Sleep Number loves to bait and switch. We paid for the Flex fit based on the looks of the bed in the store. You receive just the bed and frame. The pretty box-like platform the bed sets on is not included. We were not told that. With all the tubes and pumps under the bed, it's an eye sore. But that is the least of our concerns.
My husband's side of the bed stays at his desired sleep level, but mine does not. We can have it set for the same exact setting but mine feels like you fall in, while his has a very firm support. I can set mine for my sleep setting and it starts off somewhat firm, but by the morning I am practically laying on the platform. In addition, the split-king could not be designed worse. The mattresses do not stay together at all. We have had to get up in the middle of the night to scoot the beds back together. What's funny is that again, my husband's side does not move much while mine will be hanging off the side of the platform by 6" or more. My 5 year old daughter is able to lay comfortably in the gap between our beds, and she quite often does.
Had I the opportunity to do it all over again without having to pay the ridiculous return shipping fees, we may have gotten the Sleep Number bed but just the king. I would not recommend the split king to anyone, and the flex was useless for us because the mattresses will not stay on the frame correctly. Overall, I would not recommend this bed.

I purchased a P5 bed over the phone about 5 years ago and it has been leaking air for a while. I paid close to $2000 for the bed. It's like some other review said, "Select comfort don't give a blip about you after the first 100 days." Before going into their customer service issue, let's just start by giving everyone some perspective on the bed. In fact, till this day, I am trying to "scientifically" understand what's the difference between their so-called "performance line" compared to their cheaper, entry level beds.
I thought the air flow on their better beds would be computer-controlled and maintained, but the service reps has repeatedly confirmed that the pressure changes because the body temperature/weather condition could potentially "heat up" the air inside the chambers and "change" the number. How ridiculous is that!? So if I set 55 on a winter's night, by the time I fall asleep it warms up and change to 65!? That's absolutely worthless! How is that any different from a $50 air bed from Target!? I would expect the pressure is regulated and adjusted accordingly!
My call to the service support went like this: First call: After waiting 25 minute for a rep, someone picked up and said "leaking air? swap tubes to find out which one is leaking". The whole call took about 26 minutes, of which only 1 min I was speaking to someone. Second Call: I asked to replace the pump because I said things didn't change much and each side would still lose some air. Didn't really fix the problem. The bed still lose some air, but less than before.
Third Call: Spoke to John supposedly from their "better team" that handles survey responses. I explained to him that a $2000 bed shouldn't be such poor quality and I thought someone would come to my home to look at the bed, do some tests and decide what to replace. I was surprised that I had to do all this myself. John offered to replace one air chamber in case it wasn't the pump that's leaking.
Fourth Call: Asked to get a chamber. The lady obviously sounded upset why I was asking to replace so many stuff. She said I have to send in the old chamber after receiving the new one, which I agreed (could have UPS picked it up instead of asking me to drop it off!).
I received the replacement chamber and it says 'Refurbished', and is likely a wrong size! There's no way I'm sending my original part back to Select Comfort knowing that they've sent me a REFURBISHED PART, so I am sending this back to them. The so-called 25 years of warranty is a joke. You have to pay 30% of MSRP to obtain the warranty parts and they are refurbished parts. In fact, I can get original and better replacement parts off eBay for cheaper.

Hi Ryan, we're sorry you're not enjoying your bed! Defects in our bed are rare, but the ones that do occur are most often found and reported in the first two years of use, which is why we fully cover any replacements due to defects during that period. It sounds like you’ve owned your bed a bit longer than that and you’re now in the prorated portion of your warranty, where we're still covering the majority of the cost for your replacement. I'd be happy to take a second look into this for you and see what other options I can offer to help resolve this for you. All I need to get started is for you to reply with the name and address we delivered your bed to and I can get to work on this for you right away.
I hope to talk with you soon!

My wife and I purchased an ILE with adjustable base while at the Sacramento Home and Garden Show. We were not there to buy a bed but after laying on the ILE and talking with the salesman Anthony multiple times, we decided to pull the trigger. We would talk to Anthony, walk around the show, went back to lay on it again, left to walk around the show, then on the third visit, we ultimately agreed to the purchase and paid $7400+ for the bed. What sold us on the purchase was Anthony repeatedly telling us that we could return it within 100 days if we did not like it. He sold us on the fact that there was no risk since we could return it. And when I say return it, I mean ALL of it.
We received the bed and on the first night, my wife (5 months pregnant) went to the other room to sleep. Unfortunately, she did not like the bed. We had the bed for about 10 nights when we decided to return it. When I called the Sleep Number customer service line, they understood and agreed to take the bed back - until we got to the adjustable base. I was told that the adjustable base was non-returnable and that I had signed the contract stating so. I explained to the customer service agent that I was never told the base was non-returnable and repeatedly told I could return the bed within 100 nights if I didn't like it. They again stated that I signed the contract and that there was nothing they could do.
I decided to call the Anthony to discuss. He immediately became defensive and stated that he, told me the base was non-returnable and only the mattress portion was returnable. This is completely false. His entire sales pitch was "zero risk". He repeatedly said, "You have 100 days to try it. If you don't like it, you can return it."
I decided to take a trip down to the store where Anthony works to speak to him and his manager. I spoke with Anthony’s manager, **, and explained the situation. I let him know that I felt Anthony was deceptive and ultimately lied to us. I also explained that the only time Anthony mentioned anything about the base was to tell us that it would be an additional $1000 for the massage option, which we declined. ** ultimately took the same company line that the customer service rep took which was, you signed the purchase agreement. He couldn't have cared less that Anthony lied to us. I tried to explain to him what lead up to the purchase but he didn't care. Anthony's position was I told you the base was non-returnable; **'s position was, you signed the purchase agreement.
At any time, if Anthony had told us the $3000 base was non-returnable, we would have NEVER purchased this bed. Why would anyone pay $7400 for a bed, return the mattress then agree to keep an adjustable base for a mattress they no longer own? This is seriously ridiculous. The fact that Anthony completely deceived us by saying we could return it then changes his story and says he told us only the mattress was returnable is completely crazy. We trusted Anthony, confirmed multiple times we could return the bed, then ultimately made the purchase. In the end, I take responsibility since I signed the purchase agreement, but did so under false pretense. Moral to the story, don't get duped by a Sleep Number mattress salesman at the home and garden show. When he promises no risk, he is lying. Oh, and don't expect their manager to have any integrity at all; they have obviously been trained to not care that their staff is dishonest.

Bought bed with a discount. Bed was an outlet purchase. Bed came with refurbished air pump. Called factory and they became argumentative. They advised me I should have been told about outlet products before the purchase. I was not advised of this prior to completion of my purchased. Called store manager and he insists that he explained this in detail. Not true.
I do not lie, nor do I make up things. I have been a loyal customer for many years, but no longer. I resent the assumption that I was told of refurbished products, of which I do not buy. I was also informed that this mattress was as good as the higher priced in store unit, but I was getting a discount due to mattress closeout. This mattress is junk compared to floor models.

Got our Sleep Number bed in December and I hate it. (My husband is ok with it) Close to $6000. Before finalizing our purchase - I tried out a Sleep Number bed in the Sleep Number store... I was not convinced it was the bed for us, mostly because of the cost. I was told by the store salesman and also the phone salesman - Nothing to lose, 100 nights guarantee. I have not had a good night's sleep since it arrived. We have contacted Sleep Number - we can return the mattresses but the base is non-returnable. We have to pay the return shipping on the mattresses. So when all is said and done we will receive approx $3100 of the $6000 (nothing to lose - $3000 is a lot of "nothings").
On the other hand they are sending us 3" piece of memory foam to try - on top of the mattress at no charge. Unless you want to pay big bucks for an air mattress surrounded by foam, I would not recommend Sleep Number to anyone. Try this with an air mattress - filled to capacity with air is Sleep Number 100... let air out to reduce sleep number and reduce firmness. Have you ever slept on an under inflated air mattress?

Ever since my son was born 14 yrs ago, my sleep has been lacking in quantity and quality. I thought that was the way it was to be from now on, and just resolved that I should get accustomed to it. During a business trip, I stayed in a Radisson and slept in a Sleep Number bed. It was at that point that I knew I had to own one. I purchased my Sleep Number bed 5 months ago. I can honestly say that it is the best purchase I have ever made! I noticed a much better night's sleep the very first night in my home, and my sleep has improved ever since that first night. I used to survive off of 3 to 4 hours of sleep each night. I now am sleeping between 7 and 8 hours each night. I am waking up refreshed and ready for my day. I am sleeping like a teenager again!

This is the worst bed I have had. We spent money to get the premium model. I have tried just about every setting. Have tried different pillows with each setting. My husband likes a higher setting and I like a lower setting. Problem with that is my side of the bed slopes and his is higher. Has not at all relieved pressure points. In fact made my back worse. We are happy owners of two Sleep Comfort beds. We liked the first so much we bought another. So this review is not just shooting from the hip. We bought a 4" memory foam mattress pad (paying more than at other places) because we've been so happy with the Select Comfort beds and the customer service. Our mattress pad cost $300. Delivery was prompt and we unpacked the pad and laid it out to air as instructed. The smell was really strong, sort of petroleum/plastic smell. The packing material said this is normal and would dissipate. They call it "fresh foam" smell. The common term for this is "out gassing."
After sleeping on the bed for several nights my wife and I were both waking with headaches and nasal and chest congestion. We decided we needed to return the pad and removed it from our bed. These symptoms were gone the next morning when we got up. Contacting Sleep Comfort, we were surprised to be told there are no refunds on this product. What a shock! Simple googling will tell you on average, 2% of purchasers of memory foam pads return them because of the smell. This is a known issue addressed even in the Sleep Comfort packing. It was not raised by our salesperson. Neither was the no-refund policy.
We are returning the pad but we're stuck with a $300 store credit and nothing in particular we want to buy. Every other retailer we can find offers no-questions-asked refunds. When you have a known issue (like out gassing), it's only decent to let people try the product. Very disappointed at being hung out to dry for $300 on this purchase.

Hi Jim, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. I'm sorry for the trouble you had with the odor associated with your memory foam pad! We want you to know that, as you mentioned in your review, some foam components and bedding can arrive with a strong smell, just like a new car can have that “new car smell.” This odor will fluctuate with the freshness of the foam, there is nothing harmful in the odor, and this is not uncommon for foam products.
I'm also sorry you weren't made aware of the terms and conditions of the sale when you purchased your mattress pad, and I'd like to have the chance to look into this for you and see what I can do to help. Simply reply with the name and address we delivered your bed to and I can get started right away.

We bought a Sleep Number bed 11 months ago. We paid $3200.00. Seventeen hundred was for the Dual Temp layer that warms and cools. That layer is made of memory foam, which sinks down with the shape of your body and doesn't spring back. In less than six months we were sleeping in the same "craters" our bodies made that caused us to get rid of our old mattress. But with a conventional bed it took ten years to make these craters. Due to these craters, both my husband and myself experience pain in our shoulders and arms daily from sleeping in a crater. I feel whatever comfort may be offered by the Sleep Number bed is negated by the Dual Temp layer. Sleep Number doesn't really care how you feel about your bed after the first 100 days. We were repeatedly told by both the salesman and the store manager that we had 100 days to try the bed in home and if we didn't like it, we could return it. We paid for the bed and did not have delivery until more than 6 weeks later. The day the bed was delivered the adjustable base wasn't working correctly, the wifi function didn't work. We did not want to take delivery of the bed, since there were already problems with it. We were told at that point by the delivery persons that you only have 100 days to try the mattress, the adjustable base sale is final the minute you are in the store.
We paid $4,000 for this bed, $2,900 of which is the adjustable base. We are not happy with any part of the bed. I wake up with a backache every day. The sleep I.Q is **. It gives you a sleep IQ rating even if you are not in the bed. I have been sleeping on the couch - this bed is so uncomfortable. I love my i8 Sleep Number but I bought a dual control topper and I have been miserable ever since. There are two large boxes that sit on either side of the bed that we trip over when we get in and out, and the topper slides off the bed each night. Before we get in bed we have to pull on it to try to get it back on the bed. Complete waste of money!

My wife and I had tried 3 different types of beds before we finally went to a Sleep Number Store. The sales staff were great and they took time to help us figure out our sleep number and which bed would work best for us. Since we received our bed we have never slept better. We have dual chamber bed and my wife sleep number is 30 and mine is 55. There is no comparison to the other brand name beds we tried before. Hands down we love our Sleep Number bed.

I have purchased the Sleep Number bed 7 years ago. I was happy about it even though the pump display was broken. Two years ago, I recommended to my son and he bought one too. I also recommended to a few of my friend. Few weeks ago, one side of the bed started to leak and I had to pump to my firmness level every day. Today I had an online chat with a customer service rep and was told that I need to spend about $250 to replace the air chamber and the pump.
The rep told me that the chance of that both parts are broken unlikely but there is nothing he can do because I have agreed with the warranty upon purchase. There is no apology or complement offer to stand by their product, to stand by their sales rep's promises and to make a royal customer happy. Now I feel sorry that I have recommended such an unreliable product to my son and my friends.

The staff was very quick to help me. All of my questions were answered. The bed is pretty nice. I like that my fiance and I can each have our own firmness setting. The 30 year warranty covers anything that can happen to the bed, at least that is what the Sleep Number employee told me, so that offered some peace of mind since air mattresses are known to wear out with time. The experience was positive overall, I would recommend a Sleep Number bed to my family and friends.

We love our new Sleep Number bed. The delivery was horrible, the 3 delivery men were rude. One of them rang our doorbell and opened the door and walked in. They parked the big truck on our lawn, I asked them to put the truck on the driveway and I was told that the delivery wouldn't take that long. I again asked to park the delivery truck on the driveway instead of my lawn. They were not happy about my request and started unloading the bed boxes, I then told them to get the truck off my lawn. Instead of handing the boxes out of the truck they threw them on the ground. At this point my wife suggest that I should leave before something bad would happen. I don't know what happened after that. I will never do business with Sleep Number again because of the delivery.

I purchased the mattress and furniture set on 1/24/2015. The total was almost $9k before tax. I was waiting for a call with "5 days of my order" based on the email confirmation I got. I didn't get that call and decided email them. I got an email saying I will be contacted in 72 hours. Guess what? No one contacted me. So I called them myself and the lady could not be less interested. All wanted to do was find out if they are processing my order. I was met with silence and a single word answers. So I decided to go to the store where I purchased the bed at the Arcadia mall and the Asian salesman didn't seem to care neither. So I'm really debating on just canceling the whole damn thing. After they make the sale they didn't care. And I'm not asking for much just some service for the products I order. I mean I didn't get a sit and sleep mattress. This is suppose to be top of the line. Yet I get better service at McDonald's.

Thanks for taking the time to follow up with me, Julie. I'm really sorry you haven't had the experience you were hoping for to this point! DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE for my wife and I so save yourself the stress and headache. Like many of you, my wife and I walked into a retail store and were sold on the product. We were on the market to purchase a mattress on the advice of my therapist since I suffer from back problems due to cancer. Hence, we decided on a Sleep Number bed and anxiously waited two weeks for its arrival.
Immediately upon arrival my wife noticed that the bed was considerably different than the one in the store so we decided to immediately call customer service as we had signed a receipt at the store saying the flex board was non-refundable and we did not want to be stuck with the product. The customer service agent said the problem was the legs and he said he would send us higher legs for the bed at no cost to us and extend the warranty to include the flex board if we kept the bed. So we agreed, but by that time the delivery guy had mounted everything back into his truck and took off... we were left with a mess in our house as they had taken our bed apart and they had taken our original mattress downstairs.
We called, complained, and were told there was nothing they could do except redeliver the bed at a later date. The week after (3 wks after purchase) they redelivered and this time their delivery guys made a hole in my wall, scraped the paint off the same wall and of a large base board we have coming up the stairs, and they also damaged the side frame of our post bed. I immediately notified customer service of the issue and was told I had to wait 72 hrs for a call that never came through. Then again I called, and called and kept being told the same thing. We sent pictures, I left voice mails and NO ONE took responsibility or EVEN cared about our problem.
Almost two weeks after my wife got involved, obviously very upset as we take good care of our home and our stuff, we work very hard and as I said before I have been through tough health issues and this company DID NOT CARE ONE BIT. She was immediately told she would get a call back, and very upset she was determined to get this matter solved and waited on the phone for about an hour to get a supervisor or someone that would take care of the problem. And sure enough, a supervisor got on the line and said they were going to send the "district manager" to take pictures of our home and fix the problem. Well he did come, and after the weekend on Monday I got a call from a rep telling me to call their insurance carrier for them to handle the claim. Again, 5 calls, voice mails and NO ANSWER.
To this day my property is still damaged. OUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE IS TIME (which I quickly learned after Cancer) and we have wasted too much time with this company to FIX A PROBLEM THEY CAUSED IN THE FIRST PLACE. All they offer is to take back our bed (which would then leave us with no mattress) and a couple of bucks, which would not be enough to fix our damage. AND this is just a summary of events! NO APOLOGY, NO CONSIDERATION, NO COURTESY AND LACK OF CARE!!! Save yourself the HORROR, YOUR TIME AND YOUR MONEY!

We have had trouble with our bed from day one. We purchased a split king with all the bells and whistles. An $11,000.00 bed. I know way too much to ever spend on a bed! For that price we expected an excellent night's sleep and great customer service. We might as well spent a dollar. I've already complained about the bed not working properly even after 3 service calls. My complaint now is with the horrible customer service this company gives. We decided since they couldn't fix our bed we would exchange it for another. Of course all others were priced less. It has now been 4 weeks and another 4 phone calls to customer service to find out why we haven't had our exchange yet. I get the same run-around story EVERY time. Lots of apologies, "I will personally see that this gets taken care of", etc.
I know they have a script they read from because it's the exact same thing each time I call. And nobody EVER follows up or does ANYTHING about it. They owe us money and must be having a hard time paying it. I am so frustrated I'm about to return the bed and they can owe us $11,000 instead of just part of that. I think 4 weeks for any company is way too long to take care of a problem. They just told me today they'd call me back in a week. UNACCEPTABLE! If I have to wait another week the bed is going back. There are many beds out there that work the same way these do and I would never recommend Sleep Number to anyone. No more excuses Sleep Number!!!!!!

This will probably be removed immediately but the frame is not included in the 30 day payback period. Customers need to be aware of this. And for a sales person to lead one to think ALL can be returned in 30 days is just false information.

Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, Brad. We think it's important for you to know that our adjustable base models are all final sales, which is an industry standard practice due to their significant size and weight, which makes them difficult to ship back to our returns warehouse. We provide this information on our website, at the register in each of our stores, and on the receipt we ask you to sign once you complete your order, so this information should have been provided in your paperwork. Let me start off by saying this bed is extremely overrated and expensive. When you look at this bed as a whole, the only unique feature of this bed is the remote control pump. The bed is basically an overpriced air mattress. The accessories are extremely overpriced as well. I had spinal surgery last June and hadn't gotten a comfortable nights sleep in months, and frankly nothing may work but I had to keep trying. So I decided to try the Sleep Number bed only to find out that it did not work for me. Well that was a costly experience to say the least! They charged me $199.99 for them to pick the bed back up, @195.99 for a mattress pad, and $99.00 for a pillow (the best item out of the whole thing) but still extremely over priced, and $89 for the original delivery and set up.
There is nothing special about this bed, pump air in to make it more firm, pump air out to make it less firm... that's it! As for the memory foam layer between the actual air chamber and the mattress, it is minimal unless you spend more money to add more layers yourself. I purchased the C5 model but you can spend a whole lot more to be dissatisfied. For those of you who rave about this bed... more power to you. Sleep Number refused to allow me to return the $195.99 mattress pad for a refund as well. Buyer beware!

We bought our bed 2 1/2 years ago. We really did like the bed and was happy with it until one side began to lose air. When we called the company, we discovered we would have to disassemble the bed and move the tubes to discover the problem. After we found out whether it was the tube or the mattress, we would have to pay from $92 to $129.00 plus other charges to replace either pump or mattress. Also that would entail disassembling and reassembling. It isn't worth it. If this is what happens every 3 years, the product is unacceptable.

In addition, they don't tell you that the 20 year warranty is prorated so a new pump and remote for a bed that I can't possibly move myself is over $200.00. The best thing I did was to buy a pillow top Tempur-pedic from Costco and replaced the egg crate. This product is SO overvalued.

Was recommended to SN by a friend from work. I have osteoarthritis in neck and lumbar spine and hadn't awakened without being stiff and in pain for years. I have not had morning pain in these areas since I switched to a Sleep Number bed (basic model). I am single so sleep alone and keep both sides at 95 which works best for me. Great product.
The salesman at the store was helpful and delivery was good. Have been recommending SN to all my friends since. Probably will never buy another regular mattress again.

I am very pleased with the service I received from the store and the people who delivered my bed. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The only complaint I have is I was told if I recommended someone to the store and they purchased a bed I would receive $100 for this. I did send someone to the same store and they purchased a bed. They were told I would receive this too. But I never did. This was back around October 2014. So far this is the only problem I have so far since my purchase.

I have personally had a great experience with our new bed. I sleep much better every night and love being able to adjust the firmness depending on how hard of a day I had at work. My wife has not enjoyed the bed however and despite sleep number trying to make things more comfortable for her, (free memory foam underlayment upgrade) sleep quality has remained much worse than before this bed. My wife really prefers a softer setting and at these lower settings she says the bed feels too much like a low quality air mattress. I wish there was a way to make us both sleep well. My rating is 5 stars, my wife's is a 1.

We have had nothing but issues with our sleep number bed from the start. We have had 2 air pumps die and now another last night. When your air pump totally fails you lose all the air that is in the mattress and it goes flat. Then you try to get a replacement pump only to find out you have to dish out another $158.00 AGAIN to replace it and then wait for 3 days for it to arrive.
Their employees that work at the Pheasant lane mall in Nashua NH are the rudest people I have ever dealt with and I am just amazed the this company is still in open after all the consumer complaints that are all over the web. The thing that irritates me the most is when I called this morning about my pump and was told they do not make this model anymore because of all the problems they have had. If that is the case I should get a new pump for free seeing I have already dished out $158.00 2 times now and this would have been the third but I have decided to go buy a new bed, take this one, wipe my ** with it and ship it back. Try to talk to someone in charge... good luck, will not happen! WORST COMPANY EVER. I only gave them 1 star because I had to or it would not let me post my review.

We initially were talked I to the C series bed by a showroom salesperson who made all the promises of amazing sleep in the world. She also suggested upgrading to the dual temp (over 1,000 add on feature). The basic model and dual temp ended up being close to 5,000. I will say they have very generous finance packages which was nice.
Anyway, the after a few weeks of terrible sleep, I kept going back to the store and the rep said this was "normal" and to stick it out, that my body had to adjust. It didn't. In fact (I suffer from narcolepsy) I had increased symptoms of sleep paralysis which spiked with the new bed. I insisted on exchanging the bed which she finally said I could do through customer service. The process was fairly straightforward. They allowed me to switch to the memory foam M series but advised I only get one exchange and had to pay for all shipping. I made the mistake of letting the salesperson talk me into a worse mattress than before. It is much warmer (even though it's advertised as cool memory foam) than the standard series bed. It also is very firm. So much to the point that I cannot sleep in it.
Moral of the story, I was to trusting and now have a 5,000 guest bed that never gets used as I cannot sleep in it. Had I just returned the mattress I might have been able to "repurchase" the series that was better suited to me. But the sales rep told me this was not a option (not true, I found out). It would've nearly cost me shopping each time. Overall I feel taken for a ride, and wish I'd pushed to return/repurchase in August 2014 when I bought the bed and got the P Series.

The new bed is comfortable but very high making entry and exit more difficult and while sitting on the bed our feet do not touch the floor. The split mattress is impossible to make and seems to be warmer than the previous model. The remote uses multiple buttons for entry and at night will certainly take enough effort to make changes that will wake you fully for results. Purchased a King split sleep number bed and my wife had over two weeks of very little sleep trying to make every adjustment possible. We want to return and they will not refund the frame, which was $4000.00 of the purchase price. We gave notice after 2 weeks. If you give a 100-day sleep on bed warranty, that should include the whole bed. They never said the $4000.00 frame was not returnable in those 100 days. I think it is very misleading and I think they should honor their warranty. We should be able to return the whole bed because it isn't a bed without a frame. No one can afford to throw away $4000.00.

Hi Michael, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. I'm sorry you've deiced our bed isn't a fit for you! We think it's important for you to know that while you can return any of our core line mattresses during our 100 night in home trial period, our adjustable base models are all final sales. We provide this information on our website, at the register in each of our stores, and on the receipt we ask you to sign once you complete your order, so this information should have been provided in your paperwork. If you don’t recall signing your receipt to confirm you understand your terms of sale while you were in the store, please let me know and I can get in touch with your local store to check on this for you.

Thanks to some intervention at the corporate level, this issue has been resolved as I finally received my bed. From what I experienced, and have read in other locations, it seems like most of the issues stem from the East Coast Delivery Scheduling department and once it is past them, things start to run like they should. The actual delivery went smoother than I expected and the delivery personnel were courteous, knowledgeable, and extremely efficient. The bed is exactly what we wanted and, so far, seems to be just what we needed.
The one slight issue we are having is that it does sleep "hotter" than a normal mattress. Fortunately, I think this can be solved with a simple cooling gel mattress pad. Based on this and the fact that you can have the bed shipped directly and put it together yourself, I would recommend Sleep Number beds without the home delivery option.
Original Review: Jan. 26, 2015
With a few small exceptions, my experience with Sleep Number has been nothing other than a nightmare. We first looked at the beds in the Dulles Town Center store on 1/5/2105. While looking, the saleslady kept mentioning the sale (50% off) they were having on the king sized DualTemp Layer that would make the bed more comfortable.
When we returned home, we went into our local store at Fashion Square Mall in Charlottesville, VA to look further and again kept being pushed towards the DualTemp Layer. We decided on a model we wanted and went into the store on 1/10/2015 to place an order. Even though the salesman agreed to our order he found out when placing it that the DualTemp Layer was no longer available on sale but could be purchased for full price. While we decided to continue and purchase the bed, we declined the DualTemp Layer as it seemed too much like a Bait and Switch to me. Along with the bed, we opted for $179.99 Home Delivery which according to both our salesman and the Sleep Number website means we would be called in 3-5 days to schedule delivery which would be in 10 to 14 days from purchase.
While things started out OK, they quickly went downhill. On 1/14/2105 we received a call around 7 PM from the delivery department offering to have the bed delivered on 1/20/2014. I accepted this date and the next morning arranged to have the day off. Around noon on 1/15/2015 I received another call cancelling the delivery for, according the person on the phone, unknown reasons. She then stated they would call me to reschedule at a later date.
After not hearing anything for a few days, I contacted Customer Support on the morning of 1/21/2015 via web chat. Once the person looked at my order they stated there was nothing they can do to help me and I would have to call the delivery department. While not real helpful, he did at least give me a phone number to call. When I called Delivery mid-morning, the person I spoke to put me on hold to look at my account. After a few minutes she came back to say she needed more time and would call me back in 3-5 minutes. An hour later she calls me saying there is nothing she can do as it needs a supervisor to fix whatever is wrong. She said her supervisor was not available but that they would call me back soon.
In the meantime, I sent a email to Customer Support requesting their assistance. About 5 hours later I got home and, not having heard from anyone, called Delivery back. The lady I spoke to said she can see that a supervisor had looked at my account and while she does not know what is wrong there is nothing she can do as the schedule has not been released. At that point I hung up and called my salesman who said he would look into it the next day and get back in touch with me.
A few hours later around 8 PM I got a call from delivery again saying something was wrong with my original shipment but she did not know what or when it might get fixed. This morning (1/22/2105) I got an email from Sleep Number stating that my order for 12 Tapered King Legs was being overnighted to NJ with no other information. About an hour after I got the email my salesman called to say he talked with Delivery and the told him the parts they needed were being shipped to Richmond VA for home delivery. He did not know when this delivery might be or it is just the legs or the whole bed but was under the impression that I should have it before Monday. Knowing it would be a waste of time, I sent another email to Customer Support expressing my unhappiness even though they had not yet acknowledged my email from the day before.
Once I got home, I received an email from Customer Support all saying they do not like to work via email and that I should call the number I had already called. Of course, when I called I got the same runaround as before with Customer Support blaming Home Delivery and saying it is out of their hands and Home Delivery saying it is a Logistics problem and out of their hands. Over the course of the evening I received 4 more emails telling me the same thing. I then called back and asked for a supervisor. Once connected, I explained that multiple emails saying the same useless thing only increases my frustration and does not help the situation. She said that she understands but that, surprise-surprise, there is nothing she can do. It seems that all three departments are totally separate and there is no coordinating supervision and therefore no accountability.
After all this, I received an email on 1/24/2015 saying that the UPS Next Day Air package that was shipped on 1/22/2015 is now in Kentucky. Not what I would call Next Day Air. Saturday night I tried one last thing and posted to their Facebook page only to be told that Home Delivery was closed for the weekend and there was nothing they could do till Monday.
It is now 1/26/2014 which is 16 days from my order and I still have no bed and not one person at Sleep Number has any clue as to when, or if, I might ever see it. In addition, with the exception of my salesperson, no one has even bothered to apologize for my issues. All they want to do is make excuses that this never happens. Unfortunately there is no way to contact anyone above these separate departments and all corporate contact information is hidden. I just tried their online chat to get a email for someone at a corporate level and was told to use the same Customer Support email that I have already unsuccessfully tried.

I absolutely love my Sleep Number bed. Before I purchased my bed, I had difficulty falling asleep. When I finally went to sleep on my old bed, I did not usually wake up feeling rested. After I purchased my iLE Sleep Number bed, I am able to get comfortable and go to sleep much easier. Now I actually dream most nights. I can't remember dreaming since I was a child!!
The only 2 downsides I have observed from owning this bed. First, traveling and sleeping in another bed is difficult (because now that I know what a good night sleep feels like, it is difficult to settle for any less). Secondly, if you have a low Sleep Number like I do (Sleep Number of 25) then a regular pillow can cause neck pain (because the bed is so soft, your body sinks into the bed a bit, and can put your neck at a difficult angle on a regular thickness pillow). However, this issue is easily resolved. I either use a thin pillow or a very soft down feather pillow, then I don't have any issues with joint pain. Now, I cannot imagine my life without my Sleep Number bed! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has difficulties sleeping!

Thanks for sharing, Melissa. We're really glad your bed is making such a difference for you and we hope you sleep even better as time goes on! Please just let us know if there's anything we can help you with along the way.

I was having serious back pain when I bought this bed. Almost immediately I experienced improvement. The store staff was very helpful to find my sleep number. I have adjusted it a few times but the number they suggested was "it". I love the pillows we bought too. My back pain is very much improved now... almost gone.

I have had a long medical history of spinal problems, three separate spinal surgeries and major discomfort in getting proper rest. My wife and I have had different mattresses and other sleep accessories and pillows over the past 15 years. In December 2013 I had a successful 5-disc Lumbar Fusion. Our bed at that time was way too firm and I wasn't getting the rest I needed for rehabilitation. We went to Sleep Number store in Olympia, WA and chose the i8 Split King w/ Adjustable Base. Finally, we have a bed that provides my wife and I the full range of independent adjustability in firmness and head/foot positioning. We are Happy Campers!

Danielle showed us what Sleep Number had to offer and found our sleep number mine 60 and my wife 45. I have changed mine to 90 since getting the bed. I now sleep 7 to 10 hours a night, I feel better and don't waste money on those over the counter sleep aids that never worked.

I purchased the Sleep Number P5 king bed and it has made a huge difference in my sleep and my husband's. It is so comfortable and of course you can adjust it to your aches and pains as well as it is like having a new mattress every night. Super easy to set up. We had it ready to go from box to bed in 45 minutes. We also purchased 2 sets of the smart classic sheets and I must be honest that they are less than appealing. They "pill" very badly and we will not be putting them back on our bed. Sorry sleep number but the sheets are not worth the price at all. Honestly, I have sheets from Wal-Mart that cost a lot less and have no pills after dozens of washes. The down alternative pillows are good but the price is a little outrageous. Thank goodness there was a fabulous sale or I probably would not have bought them. The bed is wonderful, stick to that. Everything else is just overpriced "frosting".

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing, Cindy. That's wonderful news and we're happy to hear your bed is helping you both get the great sleep you deserve. If you ever have any questions, or need some more information on our bed, please don't hesitate to let us know.

This is a double with a single chamber. The sides are rigid but the center is the airbed which is not large enough for any adult to completely sleep on it. The bed sinks in where the airbed is, so your body is contorted as if sleeping in a hammock...the worst for an already painful back condition. The issue is so bad that even if my 45 lb. dog lays on this bed by herself, the middle noticeably sinks into a hollow. You have to climb toward the sides to get out of it....though this is a slight exaggeration, it illustrates the defectiveness of this bed. I received no satisfaction with either the store or customer service. I have taken apart the bed and explained to them the condition of the components that seem fine. It is the design that is the problem. Perhaps in a king or queen size the air chamber is large enough that an adult can sleep completely on the air chamber, but this is a design defect in the double and not fixable.

Sleep Number stepped up to the plate and has promised to look into how this all happened and make any corrections to their processes that need to be made.
Original Review: Jan. 21, 2015
We ordered a C3 bed for our guest room on January 6. We told the salesperson that we were leaving on vacation on January 20th. Oh, no problem she said. It will be delivered well before that. I know that sales people will say about anything to make a sale but stupid me, I believed her. On January 15th with no word on delivery, I called Sleep Number's customer service line. No problem she said, I'll just delay the shipment until you return on January 28th. On January 19th, we get an email saying it had been shipped.
I tried their chat line but after 45 minutes, the person said there was no record of a hold being placed on the shipment and he couldn't help me any further. After we got to our vacation destination, I tried for 3 hours to get through with no luck. I emailed them saying it was their problem if there was damage due to the bed being delivered without us there and got a form response. The bed was actually delivered today (January 21st) in 2 1/2" of snow. They are completely incompetent when trying to deal with something out of the ordinary.

My wife and I are very dissatisfied with our new bed. Not comfortable for either of us. Watching it be assembled opened my eyes to the construction/quality to price ratio. I feel stupid for spending over $4,000 for this bed. I called customer service to return it today only to learn I need to suffer with it for another 27 days so I will be in compliance with their return policy. Why would you make a customer upset when in 27 days you will take it back. The only reason I know is that they hope you will keep their overpriced product. BIG mistake on my part!

Hi John, we're sorry you're not enjoying your bed! As our beds sleep very differently from a traditional inner spring mattress, it can take some time to adjust to your new bed, which is why we require our owners to keep their beds for at least 30 days. I had to purchase a pillow protector for 11.99 and received 60.00 back on my card. At the time of the sale, the salesperson never explained none of this to me and when you pay for the items, you receive paper work of the terms of sale and it's already too late to do anything because you already purchased it. I will never buy anything from them again, not a very good way to do business. They tell you one thing and then after you buy, it's not their problem.

This is my second bed. We had a great experience with our first bed (purchased September 2014) and are in love with it today. I recently had to move my mother in to an assisted living location. This included moving her from Florida to Virginia. Mom has complained about her current bed for a long time so we left it in Florida. Her mental state makes shopping for a mattress she will like very difficult. The Facility she is in is letting us borrow a bed. I decided to get her a sleep number so she would have a bed that can change with her needs. I was aware of the two week lead time on the order.
I was contacted as normal approx. 3 days before delivery. Based on that date, I coordinated:
- the removal of the borrowed bed by facility staff on the morning of the delivery.- Rental of a truck to move mom's furniture from Florida to Virginia.
- Time off from work
- Wife's time off from work
- Son's time off from work
- Daughter's time out of school
Note: Coordination of furniture delivery was important as the bed mom is borrowing is a queen and we purchased a twin sleep number. We cannot get the furniture into the space with the queen in place. We anticipated having the twin bed in place, thereby allowing us to move her furniture in.
I was contacted on the morning of the delivery (Friday Jan. 9th) approx 10 am and told that not all of the parts were in. The delivery would have to be rescheduled. I was contacted the next day (Saturday Jan. 10th) and offered a new schedule date of Monday Jan. 19th... 10 days beyond the original delivery date. I told the customer service agent that date was unacceptable and why. (Foolishly, I thought that the new delivery date would be no more than a couple days max.) And a delayed delivery date of just a couple days would have been acceptable.
I was then told that the scheduling department was closed for the day but that I (ME) could contact them that coming Monday after 11 am. I inquired why it would be up to me to contact them. Help me understand the logic here. No, I didn't buy their most expensive bed. I'm sure they had many other orders for larger sales they put in front of me. But even one of their twin beds is a huge $$ difference from a traditional mattress, and my money is just good as anyone else's. I wouldn't be writing this if they had come back with a better delivery date - and not put the onus on me to contact them.

Hi Joel, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. I'm so sorry for the trouble you had with the deliver of your mother's bed! We agree, this never should have happened. We do our best to provide a great experience for all of our owners from the time they first set foot in one of our beds to the time they last use their beds, and it's clear we fell short of that goal in this case. I want you to know that feedback like this is essential, as it gives us the opportunity to see where we have room to improve our processes, and I'll be forwarding your comments on to our leadership team to see what we can do improve in the future and ensure this doesn't happen again.
I also want you to know that, if you're still having some trouble with the delivery of your mother's bed, I'd be happy to help. Simply reply with the name and address we are delivering your bed to and I can get to work on this for you right away.

Like most people, I invest my money in great products and services put out by companies that care about their customers. If it's worth it, it doesn't hurt to splurge. For example, a friend of mine suggested I look into purchasing a Brighton handbag. I'm a tomboy and not big into the status symbols certain products allegedly provide, so when I saw the astronomical price tags throughout the store I gave a resounding "No way!" She said, "Wait a minute. Brighton bags are handmade. They're sturdy, they register your handbag in case it gets stolen, cleans and conditions your handbag each year for free to keep it in good shape for the life of the handbag, and if anything wears on it within a decent time frame they'll replace it. This is one of those things that you get what you pay for, and they love their customers. It's a pleasure to own one." Everything she said is true. My experience with Brighton has made me wander outside my comfort zone and give other high priced products and services a chance to be heard.
"You get what you pay for." Okay, so when you drop $3,000 on a mattress, you start to get a little excited that you're going to unearth a secret little piece of heaven that others have been keeping to themselves. I didn't want to get my hopes up too high because it's not a cure-all. A good night's rest while reducing my chances of getting a pinched nerve AND a 20 year warranty is good enough, any kind of pain alleviation would be dreamy.
January of 2014 I visited a Sleep Number store because another friend had suggested it. She was a tense person who sat at a desk during her work day (sometimes very long hours), and she loved her Sleep Number bed because it helped her body to relax. She did not have the spine issues that I or my husband have, but I was hoping I would get the same results she did. My husband hurt his neck in high school and hairline-fractured his cervical spine, it's starting to fuse together. He also hurt his lower back in college while lifting furniture. I have a genetic neck issue that was passed down from my father and grandmother (bone spurs, stenosis, etc.). To stay on top of it I have been seeing a chiropractor since my mid-20's, and I will be having surgery on my neck eventually to alleviate the constant pain I've had since high school.
Twelve years ago we purchased a Sealy Posture-Pedic that was about $2,500 and from the very first night we both slept like we had died, but after it buckled during the hot summer months in unconditioned outdoor storage unit for a few years, it was toast. We felt we got our money's worth with the Sealy Posture-Pedic, so we were pretty excited to see what the Sleep Number bed could do for us. I never expected the Sleep Number bed to cure anything (as it says in the documentation I read during the purchase, I'm not that delusional to think a bed can cure genetic bone/joint issues or a damaged spine), but I did expect it to, at the very least, maintain the pain I have. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would make my pain worse.
Researching the reviews online before I made the purchase, my husband and I both were perplexed. How can the reviews be so polar opposite? They're either 5 star or 1 star. My husband kept trying to steer me away from it based on some of the bad reviews because the extreme difference in reviews just didn't make any sense, but I wanted to see it in person for myself. You get 100 days to try it out, so why not? In the store you do a demo where they show you your pressure points (results emailed to you if you like), and help you find your sleep number. Mine was around a 30. The salesman guessed my number because I'm thin. He said people who are heavier are closer to 100 because it's more firm and comfortable for them (he was a big guy himself). The fact that he could guess my number before we began the demo made me a believer.
I went alone to purchase the bed because my husband was working. And so what if he wasn't there, he can pick his number, right? After all, there are dual air chambers, that's the whole point of the bed - to each his (or her) sleep number. I was coming off of the damaged Sealy Posturepedic bed that was difficult to sleep on so anything would have been an improvement, and being able to control your own side would be glorious. Without him there I purchased the P6 - a step up from the demo model I tried - because I liked the "4 inches of supportive foam" on top that mimicked the Sealy Posturepedic I once had. Or so I was told.
Delivery to my house almost took two weeks. Like a prisoner awaiting their parole date, it was torture because I wanted so bad to get a good night's sleep as claimed in their TV and radio commercials. The day it arrived it had snowed. The two delivery fellas tracked snow and soot through my house because they didn't wear booties (I had to clean the carpet with my SpotBot). One after another they kept bringing small vacuum-packed bags into the house. Then they brought in 4 long pieces of foam followed by several black plastic rectangle things that looked like the lid to a Coleman ice cooler (see attached photo). I asked, "What are those?" They replied, "This is the base." They removed my old bed and started putting together the puzzle of plastic panels that would eventually become the base. The one guy kept taking his fist and slamming a couple of the pieces into place. This was the first instance where I started questioning my purchase. A $3,000 bed shouldn't be this cheaply made - no wonder there's a 20 year warranty, plastic is cheap and easy to replace.
They finish, put the cover on it, then lay on top of that the mattress base and started to fill it with foam side walls (see photo attached of bed components stacked on top of each other - bottom to top it's air chambers, foam layer, mattress top/cover, and foam walls). The foam side walls are 4" thick and just under 6" tall, the corners sorta lock into one another. The foam is dense, but truly it's packing foam. You may have seen it before if you've received a fruit basket from Harry & David in the mail. As they linked the foam side walls together I thought 3 things - 1) "Thank God my husband and I are thin people because if we sat on our bed to put on our shoes, it would buckle over time", 2) "No way is foam going to hold up over 20 years", 3) "This is a $3,000 bed?"
Finally we got to the part that makes this bed famous - the air chambers (see attached photo of deflated air chambers). They came in a small package, the delivery guys unfolded them, laid them out inside the foam walls like you would an air mattress if you were camping, zipped them together, hooked the tubes up to the air pump, and flipped the switch. *BWRRRRRRRRRRRR* The chambers inflate to the height of the foam walls. There is no way a kid can jump on this! And if a kid can't jump on it, how is it worth the money you pay for it? (I do have to say, it did all fit together nicely, as if Steve Jobs had designed it.)
Next comes the 4" foam layer, which is the reason for the upgrade in the price, a whopping $600 upgrade from the P5 (which promises "restful, restorative sleep") to a P6 that boasts that it, "features soft, resilient PlushFit foam with zones for superior pressure relief." [Pay attention, this is the most important part of the whole story/review.] The air chambers are support, but THIS is what is going to level it all out and help me decompress my body after a long day. The 4" foam layer was folded over and over again, air sucked out of it, then tightly shrink-wrapped into the size of a small cube. The delivery guy cuts it open, it expands and out of complete shock I laugh saying, "Look at the bends in it from being folded. Looks like an egg crate mattress pad someone bought at Walmart. This can't be a $3,000 bed!" He said with total believable confidence, "Oh, don't worry, it'll expand all the way and regain its shape." They lay it on top of the air chambers, grab the "pillow top" mattress cover top (that's about as thick/plushy as a diaper), zip it on, and there she be in all of her glory.
The finished product was the squarest piece of junk I've ever seen. It was probably the best Lucille Ball moment I've had in my life (so far). Look at the photo in the booklet (see photo attached), it looked nothing like that. They must have put some kind of fluff under it to make it so round, maybe a down comforter, or two? Excellent marketing department. Both the base and the mattress were very thin, made even more evident being that it was a wide king size bed. I was used to an 18" pillow-top mattress that was so fluffy that, when dressed with sheets and blankets, looked heavenly. This Sleep Number bed (once I dressed it with the mattress pad, In Balance Layer pad, sheets, and coverlet) looked like a cheap motel bed you'd see in a National Lampoons movie back in the '80's. Upon seeing it, you'd start searching for the quarter slot. And I just forked out over $3,000 for it.
At this moment I promised myself that any time my dad would come over I'd make sure I'd shut the door to my master bedroom. I didn't want him to see it and make fun of me for being a sucker. In the aesthetics category, Sleep Number bed gets a big fat zero. (The good news is, it was SO low to the floor that my little 10 lb dog with bad knees had no problem hopping up on it.)
First night on it I slept with my assigned number of 30. My husband tried 60 (as suggested by the salesman - women carry their weight in their hips so they'll need it softer, men carry their weight in their shoulders to they need a firmer mattress.) A couple weeks pass and I wasn't sleeping soundly, I was feeling pain I had never felt before. I chalked it up to me getting older, or maybe stress, or I could have strained myself.
Partway through my 100 day trial I go into a different Sleep Number store to get another salesman's perspective. He said that I could upgrade the foam layer to a thicker foam layer for an additional $350. I'm like, "Yeah, I just dropped over 3 grand on a bed, I'm not spending anymore money. My car isn't even worth that! What other suggestions do you have?" He suggested either purchasing a Sleep Number pillow that I can change around (we already had several therapeutic pillows at home - a buckwheat pillow purchased for an acupuncturist, My Pillow, Nature's Pillow, Linear Gravity Pillow, Tempur-Pedic Pillow, etc. So we're not falling for that again). Or I could try upping the numbers for both me and Steve. He made it sound like it was something we're doing/not doing, that if I had spent money on an authentic Sleep Number pillow or the appropriate top layer (which was never given as an option - the day I purchased it, I was shown the most expensive bed in the store that had the thickest layer and I was given the impression it only comes on that particular model. Since it was out of my price range I quickly declined.)
I mentioned to the salesman that the bed would "clunk" when you sat down on it because the plastic base "puzzle" wasn't installed properly, and the salesman said it was because I was using a metal bed frame, that the Sleep Number bed works best with the individual legs (that are available for purchase at a price of $160. Wasn't included. They're plastic. Seriously. SERIOUSLY?) Again, it's clunking because I didn't purchase the legs. I went home, used a rubber mallet to hammer them in more secure, now it doesn't clunk as bad when you sit on it.
The more I lived with this bed, the cheaper I felt. I would not have been surprised if I woke up one morning and found that my husband left money on the nightstand for me. I was going to go home and figure it out, no way was I going to let it defeat me. And everyone loves their Sleep Number bed, right? All those 5-star reviews, the first salesman having the same Sleep Number bed for over a decade and in love with it, my friend loves hers, it had to be me. Maybe my posture was wrong when I was sitting at the computer (so I adjusted my work environment, lowered my office chair, bought a foot stool to elevate my feet under the desk), or maybe I was slouching in the folding lawn chairs I was taking to events (so I got new folding chairs with better support), or maybe it was the shoes I was wearing (got inserts). The second salesman must have been correct, I was doing something wrong. I was going to make it work.
As the nights went on and passing the 100 day trial period, my husband was in so much pain that he bumped it up to 100. I didn't know he was doing that. I saw his sleep number set to 100 when I went to bump mine up. He kept it to himself because it was enough that the enormous "I TOLD YOU SO" was hanging in the air and I was already having a hard time dealing with the pain. He bought a wedge to elevate his legs while he slept to give his lower back some relief. And, he brought back out a knee pillow he hadn't used in years (from when he threw out his back at work several years ago). When I made the bed in the morning, I had to collect all the support items my husband was using and tuck them away in a spot between the bed and the nightstand for storage. My upper back between my shoulder blades started to hurt, I wasn't sleeping, and I couldn't get right up out of bed in the morning because I was in so much pain - I had to stretch my upper back, bending left then right, before I could even rise out of bed.
Then the pain got sharper, feeling like a knife stabbing me in the back. It was sapping my breath and energy. I had never had this before, I was just used to my neck pain (which had gotten slightly worse - the muscles in my neck felt weak). When I realized the "hammock effect" that my upper back was experiencing (where my upper back remained curved as I slept) and bumped up my sleep number.to 60 then 80 then to 100. I was hoping it would flatten me out. But 100? I got a Sleep Number bed TO change the number! Why get one if you're always sleeping on 100? Anyhow, the 100 brought the mid-back pain down a little bit, but the mattress was so stiff that if I were to lie on my side it would pinch my shoulder and cut off my circulation to my arm. I'm 5'7" and weigh 135 lbs so it's not like I'm really taxing the mattress foam layer/pad. It shouldn't shoot pain through my shoulder ending with a numb arm. My insurance co-pays to my Chiropractor were $60 a visit, and with only being allowed 12 visits a year I would use my visits very carefully. I also enlisted the help of a very good massage therapist, which helped for a few days and then it was back to agony. I have a personal TENS unit, nothing helped.
Friends would come over and try it out because they were curious to see what a $3,000 mattress felt like. One friend in particular laid down on it, it clunked, she laughed hysterically. "I can't believe you spent that kind of money on a glorified air mattress!" I have friends spend the night on occasion and they sleep in either of the two guest bedrooms - one has a $400 custom pillow-top mattress (on a platform, no base), the other a $600 mattress/base. One particular friend has trouble sleeping, and when she sleeps in the spare bedroom bedroom with the $400 mattress, she normally sleeps in. She wakes up stating, "I'm sorry I overslept, that's rude to do that when you're a guest, but I can't help it - that mattress is GREAT!" I actually get jealous of my house guests. This started to affect me psychologically. When I first got the Sleep Number bed I was thinking I'd have my guests use that bed and I'd sleep on the cheap beds in my house. Now, there's no way would I torture my friends/family like that.
So maybe it's me. Maybe my old bones (I'm 39) are getting older and the upper back pain comes with the territory. Last September I go on vacation to Hilton Head for a week. We rent a condo that has a king size mattress, not fancy but it will do. That whole week my back pain had subsided. Lying there one night I said out loud, "I hate our Sleep Number bed. This pillow-top mattress is awesome." My husband fully agreed. We get back home, crawl back into our Sleep Number, in a few days the pain was back.
We struggle with it for a few more months. I even considered purchasing a $400 Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers from Bed Bath & Beyond, but I'd always put it back on the shelf because I could put that money towards a new mattress. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. January 4th, 2015, a Sunday night, we had dinner at a restaurant that is next to a Sleep Outfitters store. "Let's just go in there and see what they have." My husband thought it was a ridiculous idea but went to shut me up. It was 15 minutes before they closed but the salesman was obliged to help. I said, "I hate my Sleep Number bed." He replied flatly, "That's very common. Back pain?" Yep. He knew. Or he could have been psychic. I asked him what he would suggest as a remedy and he pointed out a base model Sealy Posturpedic with the gel center that would support my upper back, a $600 mattress. It didn't have the pillow-top our original one had (that would take the pressure off my shoulder when I slept on my side), so he showed us the next model up with the thicker pillow-top for $800, free shipping/removal (Sleep Number charged me $170 shipping/removal). I laid on it on my side, the blood was still pumping through my shoulder, I said, "Sold." I asked how long it would take to get it, he said, "How's tomorrow morning?" I almost started crying.
The Sleep Outfitters delivery guys showed up the very next morning with a mattress that looked far more expensive (one solid, thick and heavy mattress) than what the Sleep Number mattress did in all the lightweight, shrink-wrapped little sections that a toddler could carry. I had disassembled the Sleep Number bed in minutes and stacked it in the corner of the room, so all they had to do was carry it in and lay it directly on top of the puzzle-piece-base. The slight clunk was gone because this mattress weighed enough to hold the base into place. Slept on it that night, the second night, and that next morning my back pain was completely GONE. It's still gone. I've overslept just about every morning (my dog thankfully wakes me up) and I feel energized. Neck pain is still there but it would take a divine miracle to remedy that (or surgery). My husband doesn't need the wedge to raise his feet or the knee support. He sleeps like a regular person and not a geriatric. When I make the bed, it's just blankets.
For fun I called Sleep Number and said I'd like to return my bed. The on hold message stated, "Clinically proven to relieve back pain and improve sleep quality." I chuckled. Customer Service rep #30, Debbie, coolly took my info, pulled me up in their system, checked the date and said I had purchased this bed in Jan of 2014. "You are past the 100 day trial period." She stuck firm to that - I told her my story, she didn't care. Didn't say sorry, nothing. It's just too bad I didn't return it in the 100 days, goodbye, and that was it. I told her I was going to add our conversation to the review and she was okay with that. Not even a "try out this other mattress topper," nothing. So not the customer service or care that companies like Brighton have to offer.
Note: Sleep Outfitters said that I get 120 days to try out my current mattress. If I am unhappy with the purchase, they'll come get it and refund me my money. But if I wanted to upgrade to a plushier bed I can do that with no hassle, I'd just have to pay the difference in the bed upgrade (just a few hundred more, much cheaper than a $400 mattress topper). The salesman told me that from day one. The delivery fellas reiterated that and went on to add, "DO NOT feel like you're putting us out if you don't like this bed. If you keep the mattress covered with the cover provided, we'll be happy to come get it and refund your money or bring you a new one. This bed here, if you don't like it, it won't hurt our feelings one bit because it will go to a showroom and be sold at a discount for low-income families. We enjoy what we do, we pride ourselves in giving back. Please don't hesitate to return the bed if it's uncomfortable for you - there's someone out there that would love to have it." Now THAT is taking care of your customer and your community. I keep calculating - If Sleep Outfitters gives a 10 year warranty (if the bed sinks 3/4" I get a brand new bed), and if this mattress is only $800, I could have had 4 brand-new mattresses in the 20 years of the Sleep Number warranty and for the $3,000 price. That's a new bed every 5 years, folks.
Final Analysis: The target market for the Sleep Number bed is people who suffer from back pain. The demographic they target who can afford a $3,000 bed are in their peak earning years, which is usually mid-life people. Most mid-life people have some kind of back pain - cervical, thoracic, lumbar. I'm not a medical person and so this is just my opinion based on my own experience. If you have any neck pain, injury, weakness, surgery, bone spurs, stenosis you don't want a Sleep Number bed. The hammock effect (the curling in of your shoulders) coupled with a pillow that lifts your head even higher above that upper-back curve is going to make problems for you (yes, I tried sleeping without a pillow. It was awful. Keep in mind, $3,000.) To each his own, lots of 5 star reviews out there (I'm prepared for backlash), but I'm not writing this for them. I'm writing this in case you are truly sitting on the fence like we were. Three grand is a LOT of money. If you don't believe me, go to the store and have them unzip the beds and look for yourself. If you get it anyway and you start to hurt, call them and take it back. Your health is worth the hassle. Don't listen to the "...but.....but...." If it hurts you, get rid of it. Don't do what I did. I'm foolishly out a LOT of money.

My sixtieth birthday present to myself was a Sleep Number Bed. Throughout my adult life, I bought quality mattresses but I always seemed to not be quite satisfied. Now, depending on my mood, the weather, aggravating medical conditions, etc., I can get as comfy as I want every night. It makes sleeping at sixty a joy.

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing, Jann. We really appreciate you trusting us with your sleep and we're glad you're enjoying your bed. If you ever have any questions, or need some more information on your bed, just let us know.

Adjustability alone makes the Sleep Number bed worth the purchase. How do I feel today? Do I need a little more firmness, maybe a 70? Or do I need to sink into a cozy 35? Head up for reading or watching TV? Legs raised after a long day on my feet? Absolutely.

We're glad you're all enjoying your bed so much, Daniel. We hope you keep sleeping well!

From the minute I walked in the door, the representative helped me understand the options, configurations, and wasn't too pushy. We discussed sleeping patterns and he put me on the demonstration bed to visualize the pressure distribution on the mattress. He then helped me see how having control over the firmness can quickly help alleviate traditional pressure points. I settled on the Performance Series, and had it delivered and setup. Finding my Sleep Number took several days, but I could notice a difference after each adjustment. I am extremely happy with my Sleep Number mattress. I have and would continue to recommend it to friends and family.

Couples have always sought a compromise when selecting a mattress that works for both. With the Sleep Number you no longer have to compromise since each side can be customized to suit that sleeper. My side is usually set to 45. It gives me support yet is not too hard or too soft. My wife loves the fact that she can adjust her setting when her back starts hurting. Making it firmer during the times that she is having backaches. Every other mattress we owned never allowed such flexibility and as a result her back would be very sore for days or weeks and the quality of her sleep suffered as a result. This is our second sleep number bed. We purchased it because of the newer Sleep IQ capabilities as well as the cool comfort technology that has been developed since we bought our first Sleep Number Bed.
Our older Sleep Number bed now resides in the guest bedroom as we felt that our guest deserved the best bed ever made as well. Of course if we have a guest we wish to have a short stay we'll set it for 100% and hide the controls. LOL. Needless to say, it is the best mattress we ever bought. Only wish we had not waited so long before buying our first Sleep Number bed.

Thank you for your response. My purchase was made over the phone and I was told the adjustable base was not refundable at the time of purchase. It would have been better if the boxes the bed came in had been left with me so I could have them to return the bed in. Since I wrote the review I have returned the accessories for a refund at a local store, which was a big savings for me. I have also set up date for the bed to be picked up and would like to express my thanks to all the people I spoke to in the store and in customer service who were so nice and helpful.
Most important the store manager told me there are RETAINER BARS to fit the adjustable base that keep a regular mattress from sliding down. I called customer service and found that they were available at no extra charge.
Original Review: Jan. 10, 2015
Bed was very uncomfortable for both me and my husband. We also bought the adjustable base which is not returnable but may be used with other mattresses. The accessories, used or UN-USED, are not refundable but may be returned to a store for exchange. For What??? Items are very overpriced and I have no need for them. The king sheets made for my king size bed with the split top were $219 and they cannot be used on any other bed. The quality is not what I would call good but the worst part is that they are too big for the bed and cannot be smoothed down and pulled tight when making the bed. After a few hours of sleep the sheets are just a mass of large wrinkles. Since I used a twin quilt instead of the $219 mattress pad to try out the bed, I cannot attest to its quality or comfort but neither is it returnable for a refund. Lesson learned.
Customer Service and Delivery people very nice but customer satisfaction does not seem to be their goal. Also, I have to keep the bed for 30 full days before they will allow arrangements to be made for it to be returned regardless of the fact it is uncomfortable for me to sleep on it. Cost of the bed to be picked up is $220 or I can disassemble bed and buy 3 large boxes to return it by UPS. Delivery people did not leave any boxes. Wish I could scan receipt, as you request to show that I am a verified buyer but I do not have a scanner.

Hi Ginny, we're sorry your bed wasn't a great fit for you! We've found that most of our owners love their beds, but we understand they won't be a great fit for everyone. That's the reason we offer a 100 Night Trial on all of our Core Line models so our owners can try the bed they pick out and return or exchange it if it doesn't work for them.
If you don’t recall signing your receipt to confirm you understand your terms of sale while you were in the store, please let me know and I can get in touch with your local store to check on this for you.
While I wish your bed had been a better fit for you, I want you to know the we all appreciate you giving our beds a try, and we wish you the best in your search for your perfect night's sleep.

I don't expect a response as it seems no one at this company actually cares about the comfort of their customers. Ironic. But Sleep Number's Customer Service is a JOKE. My bed is less than one year old. The raising/lowering function stopped working last night. At nine month's pregnant, sleeping on an incline is the ONLY way that I can sleep comfortably, but after 10 days Sleep Number has failed to solve the problem. I have talked to at least a dozen people and had two separate service appointments. Everyone diagnoses a different problem, and Sleep Number refuses to send their technicians out with replacement parts. So whatever problem is 'diagnosed' can't be fixed until a new part is ordered and another technician sent. This has failed twice and here we are waiting AGAIN for yet another part.
I get better service from my cable company. For a company that charges several thousand dollars for a single piece of furniture, Sleep Number has a lot to learn about the level of service that the customer expects. I have never been so disappointed in a company in all my life. Not only has the problem not been fixed, but the latest 'service call' made the problem worse instead of better by causing yet another function to die, and throughout all of those, no one has yet bothered to even apologize. Let's see if you can bother to make this right, or if that's just too much work for you.

Hi Alexandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share this with us. We can't apologize enough for the experience you've had to this point, and I'd like to see what I can do to help resolve this for you. Simply reply with the name and address we delivered your bed to so I can locate your file and I can get to work on this for you right away. I hope to talk with you soon!

We are on Social Security and have no large bank accounts, so we will save up. Our next bed will probably be another Sleep number bed. We really do like it, even if the cover is held by sewing it with fishing line.

We bought our bed in Saint Cloud, MN. About five months after we purchased our bed, we moved about 200 miles. I don't know what happened, but the zipper that holds the mattresses in place gave way weeks after we moved. The bed had been fully dis-assembled prior to the move. We were told that the cover is not covered by the warranty, prompting us to wonder what IS covered? We have it held together with 20 pound test fishing line. We are both on a limited [fixed] income, and buying another cover for $460.00 is just not something we can afford. As we have had it over ten years, I am unable to find the purchase information. We like it, BUT be aware that some things you expect to have replaced won't be. Not buying another one. Nice, but not affordable on our income.

Hi Julie, we're so sorry for the trouble you've had with your mattress cover! We're happy to look into this for you and see what other options we can offer to resolve this and help get you sleeping better. Simply reply with the name the bed was ordered under, and your current address, and we can get to work right away.
We look forward to talking with you soon!

I had to talk my wife into buying one of these mattresses. Now, besides dealing with all the ongoing problems with bad air pump/flattened padding and sidewalls, I have to listen to the "I told you so!" I bought a King bed in 2007. By 2011 the padding was flattening and made the bed sag. Of course select comfort is happy to sell you more parts. I am going to back to traditional mattresses that don't require the maintenance and cost and I will never recommend your product to anyone.

We bought this mattress a year ago and after a month we felt that something is wrong with this. I contacted the customer service and sent them the pictures too that where we sleep those spots are going deep as it's brand new and we feel they should take care of this thing. They started sending foam layers to fix the issue. But NO. We told them to send the technician. He came and he also said "they should replace it for you." It's been a year - nobody bothered to solve this issue. They don't even care if the customer is having major problem. I have bad sciatica and because of this mattress my back is ruined because we can't adjust it as the spots are so deep as if we are sleeping in holes. We are really disappointed by the quality and response. We can't find out what we should do as they do nothing. Sent them so many emails, photos and calls. But no they won't listen. Bad customer support.

On the latter part of November, 2014, I purchased a Flex top Eastern King mattress with an adjustable base. I also purchased 3 sets of sheets that were ordered by the employee. 2 sets of sheets were incorrectly ordered as well as the brackets. I returned them to the store and sheets were again incorrectly ordered. At one time, I had 4 sets of sheets at home that were unusable. I have talked with customer service several times after attempting to order the correct sheets. I was on the phone one time for 90 minutes and was told sheets were available when they actually had been discontinued. I ordered another set of sheets that the employee confirmed were in stock, only to find they were also discontinued. I was notified each time by email with a tracking number when sheets/brackets were being sent to me, but the last set of sheets that were discontinued, I was given no email notification at all which required me to contact customer service again. If I would have known it would be such a headache, I would NEVER have purchased the bed. If I could return the entire purchase on the front door of their store, I would have done it 3 weeks ago.
No wonder you can't return the adjustable base. I'm guessing too many issues since they obviously can't get basic sheets ordered properly or brackets. I definitely will never recommend Sleep Number to anyone as this has been ridiculous. I had hoped spending a large amount of money for a transaction at Sleep Number would provide all of your customers to be treated professionally and accurately! It's definitely not worth the money.

I did my homework and investigated all different kinds of mattresses. This was not a impulse purchase. The salespeople at the store were helpful and knowledgeable. It was a bit more expensive than we had planned on spending but I am very happy with the purchase. We bought during a sale period, so that helped.
Although it took 2 weeks to arrive it was worth the wait. Set up was quick and professional. I would recommend to anyone who is considering a Sleep number purchase.

We have purchased mattress after mattress over the years. We have tried firm and soft, pillow top and pads, but they were always the same; poor nights of sleep and continued discomfort. After a back injury, my wife would switch between the floor and a mound of pillows struggling to find a comfortable position for just a few moments of sleep. We stopped at the Sleep Number store, as it was time to look for yet another mattress. Once my wife tried the bed, she wouldn't get up for an hour. It was the first time she was able to feel the support and comfort. We splurged for the massage feature and temperature pad with the sleep score option on a split king. Now my wife can adjust her side to account for her back while enjoying the massage and I can have my own comfort level. I was concerned about the space between the two sidesaddle first, but after a few nights it's not even noticeable. We are both sleeping through the night and can see our improved content with the metrics from the sleep score. Well worth the investment with the amount of time we spend in bed.

Too expensive for what you get. The sheets are too expensive for the split bed that adjusts. The gap between the two mattresses is too wide and very uncomfortable when you want to sleep next to your partner. It is like sleeping in two separate beds, and that is not what we wanted. It is not the bed we were hoping for. The pump is not as quiet as advertised. The bed is hard to make as the design limits how you can tuck in the sheets and blankets. I would not recommend this bed, as other manufactures are just as good and cheaper. I would buy a conventional bed if I had it to do over.

Before leaving for AZ Sleep Number SN sent me an email asking how I liked the bed? I told them I have not slept in it yet. But the bed sets too Low, they took my old frame apart and set the SN inside the old frame on the floor. I told the online chat person this and they wanted to send me higher legs 11", I said it has 6" legs it sets on, they said "sorry about that"!! I ask to have their supervisor get in touch with me. They didn't.
After sleeping on the SN for two night in AZ, it is not only too Low, it's uncomfortable. Back to Chat room complaints. No luck, they are going to send me Higher legs, 11" which I have to install? Today I'll be going back to the store where I purchased it. I think it's a good product, but not for me, they broke my trust with their service and 30 day Guarantee. And the bed's I tried in the showroom were not the same as the one I got. Maybe now it's a mental thing, but hey, if one of your big selling points is service, well get it right! I'm going to move it into the guest room, that way they won't stay too long!

My husband and I purchased a $6000 bed from Sleep Number with the understanding that could try the bed for 100 days and return or exchange it within that time period if we were not satisfied with it. While we were reasonably happy with the mattress, we were very unhappy with the adjustable base. We called to try to exchange it, but were informed that the bases were excluded from the trial period and non-returnable. We were never told of this exclusion by our sales person who spend more than an hour with us telling us everything else about the bed in detail. She assured us that we had 100 days to make sure that we were satisfied with our purchase, never mentioning that the $3,000 base was not included. Although this exclusion is in small print on our receipt, we strongly feel that we were knowingly misled by our salesperson. After speaking to the customer service, we believe that the company exhibits unscrupulous business practices and knowingly tries to cheat its customers.

Hi Donna, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. I can't apologize enough that you haven't had the experience you were hoping for with us. If you don’t recall signing your receipt to confirm you understand your terms of sale while you were in the store, please let me know and I can get in touch with your local store to check on this for you.
While I wish the bed you chose had been a better fit for you, we very much appreciate you giving our beds a try and we wish you the best in your search for your perfect night's sleep.

The delivery service is HORRIBLE. They originally scheduled me for a Tuesday from 3-7pm so I took off work at 6:45. Someone called to tell me the truck broke down and they would call me to reschedule that evening. Of course no one called and I had to call the next morning to find out they had rescheduled me for Thursday morning from 8-12pm so I took another day off from work. On Thursday they came I had taken off all linens off the bed for them to take it away. They took it away layer it on the street to find out that they were missing the air chambers of my bed? They then wanted to put my old mattress which had been laying on the street back into my house!
After a frustrating call to customer service they did compensate me. They would overnight the air chambers. I then had to take ANOTHER day off work! When I finally got the bed it was so great! I originally ordered a I8 with the adjustable base and my brother also ordered the I10 bed because I got one. I upgraded to the I10 after 30 days as I felt it was better made. I LOVE LOVE the I10! I recommended this to my friends who also bought the I10 with the adjustable base.

It seems we have gotten the same story as others. We received a call scheduling us for 12/31/14 and were told that we'd get a call 48 hours in advance to give us a window. We even changed holiday travel plans to accommodate the delivery. Today, we got a call that said there was a "freight delivery delay" and that for some reason, our bed could not be delivered on Wednesday and we'd get another call after it was "researched." Got a call this evening from a lady rescheduling me for next Tuesday. She said that the beds didn't make it to the hub and this caused the "freight delay." There was no research - just a reschedule.
After doing a quick Google search, I found a lot of complaints about their freight delays. Sleep Number should not be experiencing freight delays at their hub to this magnitude, or their current freight manager should be fired. It seems more like a delay tactic when they cannot keep their delivery promise, and they pass it off to someone else. I don't think I would have minded them giving me an original date of 1/6/15, but I don't appreciate delivery promises and cancellations. That is poor customer service. I hope this is not indicative of the bed and its warranty. The girl at the Sleep Number Store was fantastic and extremely helpful. I'm sorry this delivery is tainting our view of Sleep Number and their customer service.

Love the bed overall BUT I have the split adjustable king frames and have 2 major issues: 1. The frames (2 twins) separate as the locking casters, foot cups etc. don't keep them from moving around. Called CS and they said my model now comes with a repair for this but being mine is 3 years old I would have to buy them. 2. The layer that attaches the air mattress to the base also (bolt and plastic washer through cheap fabric) has stretched/tore allowing the mattress to slide side to side and off the base. This too, I called CS and their option was a new $200 fabric cover and this was at a 68% prorated discount (3 years old). I asked if it had been improved… No same thing so they can get you every 3 years for a new one.
You would think after one spends $7000+ on a bed they would stand behind it a little, I have a cheap standard mattress from a box store that had better CS and stood behind their product. So even though I love the sleep and comfort (I get the same from a $20 blow up from Target while camping but don't look so good in the house) I will never recommend them again due to their Customer Service or lack thereof.

It is so nice to be able to change how firm your mattress is based on side-sleeping or back-sleeping. I once had a back spasm and the only way I could get comfortable is to lower the firmness. It was so nice to have a mattress that I can change as I wish. I had a great experience with Sleep Number installers, staff in the store (Michelle at Dulles Town Center, VA), and the bed itself.

Thanks for making us aware of this, Kara. We're glad you've had such a great experience with us every step of the way, and that you're loving your bed. If you ever have any questions, or need some more details on your bed, just let us know.

We love our Sleep Number bed! Best money we've spent on a bed in a long time. The separately adjustable sides allow us to each be comfortable. We added a memory foam to our bed and it made it complete. If I could change only one thing it's that the mattress is so light it tends to move around. But this being its only fault, it's very easy to live with. I would recommend a Sleep Number bed to anyone wanting to purchase a new bed. They are fantastic!!

I have had my queen size Select Comfort bed in 2008 and it has never felt right. The edges around the bed are always fluffed up and firm, then the mattress sinks in from there. Even at 100% they are different levels. I sleep alone and the side that I don't sleep on, is always higher than the other, no matter what number it is on (usually 30). There is always a very large indentation where I sleep. Unlike other mattresses, you cannot turn the mattress over, or move it from top to bottom. I have taken it apart numerous times and cannot find a problem.
Customer support is nothing short of a joke. They will send you a PDF by e-mail with troubleshooting instructions. No one services the bed... It is completely owner driven. This is not a fact that was discussed when the bed was purchased (at a hefty price). Then, if you DO find a problem, you have to order a replacement, wait for the replacement and then fix it yourself. This is not something I am physically able to do. I have offered to PAY for service... It does not exist. A terrible product and worse service.

Hi Cheryl, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. We apologize for any confusion, the terms and conditions of our warranty state that the cost of a technician to come service the bed or replace parts, is not covered under your limited warranty. One of the biggest reasons for this is that we intentionally make our beds very easy to service in the event that you have any trouble. That way, we can help diagnose any trouble you're having with some quick and easy troubleshooting steps and have a replacement part on its way to your door, often arriving before we would have been able to schedule a technician to come look at your bed. That way, we can get you back to sleeping comfortably just as quickly as possible.
If you're still having trouble getting comfortable in your bed, we'd be happy to take another look at this for you and see what further options we can offer to get you sleeping comfortably. Just give us a call at 1-888-411-2270 from 8AM-8PM CST, M-F and 8:30AM-5PM on Saturday and we can get started on this for you right away.

My wife and I purchased a Sleep Number king-size I-8 in August 2014. I recently had extensive back surgery and needed a new mattress. My parents have a Sleep Number bed and raved about it so I was anxious to give it a try, my wife was skeptical. We headed to the local Sleep Number store to be fitted. The most interesting part of the fitting process was watching the pressure point display as the bed reached our individual Sleep Numbers. As the setting approached our Sleep Numbers the red (pressure points) on the display was gone. We ordered our bed over the phone, the bed was delivered on schedule and set up by knowledgeable technicians who described the proper operation. We made our new bed and immediately set each of our sides to our fitted Sleep Numbers.
After the prescribed five nights of trying our initial Sleep Numbers we made adjustments, my Sleep Number went down five points and my wife's went up five points. My wife required one more adjustment, back to her original Sleep Number. Since we started sleeping on our Sleep Number bed I wake each day refreshed, with little to no pain in my back, ready to tackle another day of work. My wife wakes each day refreshed and ready to continue her quest of running her first half marathon. Our new favorite place in our home is in our Sleep Number bed. I hope you enjoy your Sleep Number bed as much as we enjoy ours.

We're glad you're both enjoying your bed, Jerry! If you ever have any questions, or need some more information on your bed, just let us know. Thanks again for trusting us with your sleep.

Called to see about getting warranty on pillow top, as ours has lost its shape and is very uncomfortable. Was told it would cost us $546 to replace it and another $100 to replace the remotes. Our remotes don't show the numbers or settings anymore. Where is the warranty part of this??? Paid thousands for the bed and was told it would be the best and last bed we would ever have to buy. Yeah right. Check it out thoroughly before you purchase a Sleep number bed!

Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, Lynne. Defects in our bed are rare, but the ones that do occur are most often found and reported in the first two years of use, which is why we fully cover any replacements due to defects during that period. Do not buy Sleep Number products, they are glorified air mattresses. My husband and I have not slept one full night in over three months. They do not tell you that the flex top or adjustable mattress is non refundable but they print it in little letters in the terms and conditions. We spent over $7k on a bed that is pure garbage, the floor is a better option than this bed. Any bed that comes with terms and conditions that makes parts immediately nonrefundable is a sign of the poor quality, and clearly a sales gimmick.
I have spoke to customer service twice, the first time they sent me pads and other things to make my bed more comfortable. They extended my 100 nights out so we could get "a better time frame of reference." However, they stated if this does not work just give us a call and we will refund the price of the bed in full. Of course you have to eat the cost of bedding etc., but they stated the bed would be picked up for $199. Now, I call and the bed is only partially refundable... The flex top base is apparently excluded and they want us to eat $3,049. In reading other posts it also is fully clear that we overpaid for the flex top, as some people are posting a loss of $1600 for the same base. I feel awful to find out you are being ripped off in several different schemes by a company.
We sleep in the living room on recliners and sofas to avoid our bedroom, our bed is the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. We now have to eat $4k in bedding and a base for 3+ horrible months of sleep, and spend another $4k to get a decent replacement for another company. DO NOT BUY FROM SLEEP NUMBER. If they cannot guarantee something that costs this much money, they don't believe in their own product.

Hi Shanna, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. We think it's important for you to know that our adjustable base models are all final sales, which is an industry standard practice due to their significant size and weight, which makes them difficult to ship back to our returns warehouse. We purchased a Sleep by Number bed in October of 2014. The salesman was very nice and convincing. When I bought the 5000.00 bed, the sales rep. never read or went over what happened if I returned the bed within the 100 days trial period. There is a part on the contract which states that the adjustable bed frame is non-returnable. We tried this bed over and over.. It was loud, uncomfortable, and I was miserable. I wound up paying even more money upgrading to one of their top of the line mattresses. Still this was no better than sleeping on an air mattress you can purchase for 100.00.... I called the company again, and they sent me 2 egg crates, which made this now 5200.00 bed look ridiculous and even more uncomfortable. Both times, the reps on the phone told me I would be able to return the bed at any time.
We finally decided to return the bed, which was financed by Synchrony bank. Sleep by number said, "We do not take the adjustable portion back." When I asked how much that would be they said 1640.00.....and on top of it, another 200.00 for delivery charges, and all the charges for the mattress pad, headboard brackets (WHICH THEY NEVER USED ON OUR BED) and bed skirt... A grand total of 580.00. Sleep by Number spoke with my husband informing them we would be charged more money to have the team pick up the bed.
We told them we would dump the bed off at their store, they said, "NO." So, we sent it to them with request for authorization... Sleep by Number credited 2200.00 back to the account, but we still had about 590.00 unaccounted for.. They are charging us for a mattress cover, and the brackets, $380.00, which we sent the items back to them.. They cannot locate them, not to mention, they were charging us 200.00 for the pick-up fee... That will be credited when I told her we sent it back. Beyond FRUSTRATED. HORRIBLE COMPANY if you want to return items.

Hi Donna, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. I'm sorry to hear that the bed you chose wasn't a great fit for you! While we find that most of our owners love their beds, we understand they won't be perfect for everyone, which is why we offer our 100 night in home trial period on all of our beds. I bought a Sleep Number after years of thinking about it. Now I wish I never had. I was miserable from the start, but I gave it a chance and after 30 days, called to return the bed. The rep talked me into trying if for a little longer. Even sent out a thin little foam topper to cover the air mattresses (which is all this thing ended up being) to try to make it tolerable. So I tried it for a little over 2 months and just couldn't take it anymore. It had to go. Come to find , "100 day risk free trial" doesn't cover anything you buy to go with this bed, like a $300.00 topper, that I won't use on anything else. Didn't know that. Doesn't cover delivery either. Don't remember being told this before or during the purchase. So I'm told in order to return this bed I have to figure out how to box it up somehow, and ship it back to them, or pay another $200+ for them to come get it. Wow. Really? I just paid them $200+ to deliver it. More fees.
When the techs come to pick it up, they don't break it down, box it up... They literally wad it up and throw it in the back of a box truck. Who knows what kind of damage it might suffer being "shipped" that way. So to sum it up, I spent $1,600 on a horrible bed and accessories, plus all the shipping back and forth... for two months of discomfort, and all this company feels they should reimburse me is $800.00. What a waste of money. Horrible customer service. Horrible product.

Due to my previous review, select comfort/sleep number tried and succeeded in resolving my (husband) issue. I'm very thankful to Alan who went above and beyond my expectations. It turned out those indentations were due to the 3" foam that was on top of the air bed.
Thanks Alan, select comfort is lucky to have you :)

I purchased this bed on 11/19/2006 and it is barely 10 years old. My husband was fine for a while and then he couldn't sleep. He would wake up through the night due to horrible back pains and lie on the couch, then come back to bed, start to hurt and then have to lie on the couch. This has been going on for years and he has complained about our very expensive $7000 king set, dual, ptop, wireless for years. I kept thinking it was him, but knew I could sleep on anything. Well, I finally looked really good at the bed, really don't have to look really good and I should've noticed this a long time ago. The bed basically has huge indentations/holes toward the top of bed. No wonder I wake up through the nights, but I always fall back to sleep so never really thought anything.
I took photos of these indentations which are quite huge and, now, quite obvious why my husband has not been sleeping for years. I am so upset about this. When I told him we can give this away and buy a new bed, he is so conscious about the huge price we paid, over $3500 and this is back in 2006! He did not want to throw this money away. Now seeing what a mess this bed is, I wish I insisted on getting rid of it. I wanted to contact Select Comfort/Sleep number bed, but they only have verbal communication and no way for me to email them with the photos I have of the bed. I can at least post them here. Hoping select comfort/sleep number will see this and contact me.

To start I am disabled and have to walk with 2 canes. My wife and I bought a Sleep Number i8 after years of talking about it. They came and put it together and from day one we were miserable. We tried it for a little over 2 weeks and decided to return it. We had been told there is a "100 day risk free trial." We called about the return and were told we had to have it at least 30 days and the $1500.00 adjustable base was non refundable AND there is a return fee. We were told none of this before or during the purchase. I have literally talked to corporate and the local store for hours with no luck. We came to find out it is basically an air mattress. If I would have none then what I know now I would of bought a regular mattress and frame for less than the cost of the sleep number frame. Do your self a favor if you feel the need to spend around $5,000 donate it to charity. I promise you will sleep better than on a sleep number.

We purchased an i8 after much deliberation. I've never slept so well and woken up without pain in my life. My wife was pregnant and the bed really helped with her hip pains. By far this was one of the wisest purchases we have made, and we would recommend a Sleep Number bed to anyone!

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing, Samuel! We really appreciate you trusting us with your sleep and we're glad you're enjoying your bed.
Keep sleeping well!

We bought our bed 2 years ago and absolutely LOVE IT! My husband is a 35 and I am a 10. That's a big difference in comfort! Sleeping on any other mattress just doesn't cut it!! Wish we had a portable one so we could take it on vacation. Thank you SN!!

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing, Deanna! We really appreciate you trusting us with your sleep and we're glad you're enjoying your bed. If you ever have any questions about your bed that we can help with, just let us know.

I have owned and enjoyed my Sleep Number bed for a number of years now. I am pretty sure it is equivalent to the P5. I purchased a FlexFit Adjustable Base a bit over a year ago. I noticed about 2 months ago the entire mattress was sliding down and up tight against the footboard of the bed. I went to the store I purchased the FlexFit Adjustable Base and was told to call customer service and they would send someone out to fix it. This is not true. I went back to the store to see if they would show me how to fix this issue. They did not want to take a bed apart (as they said) so they explained how. Now I have to go back in time a bit to when I purchased the FlexFit Adjustable Base. I was concerned about the height the bed with the FlexFit Adjustable Base as I am paraplegic, so the height of the bed is important for me to transfer into bed. I was told it would be lower than it currently was. Well, when the installers came with the FlexFit Adjustable Base to install it, I was told with the wheels it would actually be higher. I asked if we could just leave the wheels off. Yes was the answer. After all was installed I asked how do I move my bed. This is when I was told I have to completely dismantle the bed to move it from one wall to another. NOT HAPPY.
So now I have a Sleep Number bed, which I really like, but has a mattress on the FlexFit Adjustable Base that I cannot fix because the bed needs to be moved for me to have access to one side. I took a look at the flexfit-assembly-guide.pdf and it appears that threaded casters could have been put on raising the bed maybe an inch higher than without. Why wasn't I told this? You would think that a company like this would have some sort of reasonable accommodations to help fix a bed for handicapped persons. This is a great bed to help keep pressure sores away. Again, I am very happy with a Sleep Number, I am just not happy with the way the FlexFit Adjustable Base has turned out. A very expensive base. Never had a problem with the bed for years until I added the FlexFit Adjustable Base. This also sounds like a common problem with the FlexFit Adjustable Base as they told me just to use the word sliding when I called customer service and they would know exactly what I was talking about. They did. However, I have received no help other than do this and that. I need bodies to help me.

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. We're sorry you're having trouble with your mattress sliding on your adjustable base, and we'd like to see what we can do to help. We recently purchased our 2nd Sleep Number bed and absolutely love it!! We mainly purchased the second bed for the foot and head raise feature. In addition to the excellent comfort both our sleep number beds offer, the money spent for the tilt features was worth our investment.

Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, Lin. We're glad you're enjoying your bed and base. It always puts a smile on our faces to hear our owners share how much their bed has made a difference in how they sleep. If you ever have any questions, or need some more information on your bed or base, just let us know. Keep sleeping well!

The young man was very helpful when we were in the store. The bed and bed clothing are very comfortable! When the bed came we were about to move and the men that brought it to our home were very nice about explaining just how we should go about taking apart and moving it also putting it back together!

We're glad you've had such a great experience with your bed, Shirley! It always makes our day to hear from our owners who are sleeping well and enjoying not just their beds, but all of their accessories as well. If you ever have any questions about your bed, just let us know. We hope you keep sleeping well!

Simply said, I love my bed (p5). My wife had actually considered getting separate beds at one time because we disturbed each other so much each night. Now that we have our p5 and have our own separate settings we sleep great! I will never, ever go to another mattress. Amazing!

We're glad you're both loving your p5, and that it's helping you and your wife get the quality of sleep you deserve, Bill. If you ever have any questions, or find you need some more information on your bed, just let us know.
Keep sleeping well!
