In January 2006, I received a very large colorful fold out sales advertisement - promotion from Select Comfort Factory Outlet in the mail. It depicted all the usual advertised Select Comfort statements about the bed products they offer and various other reasons why one should purchase from them. Interestingly, reason #12 states Your satisfaction is important to us! along with ... you'll get top-level customer service and support as long as you own your bed.
Being mindful and not believing everything you read or hear, my husband and I visited a local Select Comfort store, lengthy inquiring about the beds. Thereafter I telephoned Select Comfort several times for further lengthy inquires. After much thought, we made the decision, based on all the information gathered, to purchase a Refurbished Sleep #5000, Queen Pillowtop with the foundation kit. It appeared a worthy major household investment based on all we learned. We relied on all representations from Select Comfort, saving about $600.00 supposedly, with all the same warranties.
The bed was ordered early February '06 and arrived after several telephone calls later. To our unknown demise! After assembling, we found the pump was DEAD. Two weeks later on an uncomfortable brutal bed couch, we try the new bed. It has been the most miserable 2 years of sleepless nights ever to this day!
Although always demanding a refund from the get go, and stating how much I hate this bed, Select Comfort reps have been nothing but uncooperative, rude and down right nasty. They informed me that they use complaints in their training sessions. It is also well worth mentioning that they record all phone calls, pull you up on their computer screens, have all the info on you at their fingertips, record their name and ID, put in their own personal notes about your emotional character as they see it, as well as a partial outline of your complaint and have a readily available handy reference lookup book of what to do when you complain.
Given all this, yesterday I had to order a 4th pump. The last one was February '08. We too experience the falling in the middle and poor foundation structure. I just learned about the possibility of mold! I'll be checking immediately! Maybe why we are always sick! Who'd thought it a reason from your own bed?
Respiratory problems, possibly associated with unknown mold contained in bedding. Problems with posture and misaligned bone structure. Undue pain and pressure point suffering. Lack of sleep!

After dealing with a horrible Stearns and Foster matress I was able to talk my husband into buying the SC 7000 Cal King. In the store it felt wonderful and supportive and I couldn't wait to get the bed of my dreams home. After the 1st night I was already dissapointed. But still I thought it's new and we just need to adjust. After the 2nd night my lower back was out and my legs were numb. Now I was upset. We spent a lot of time trying to get it adjusted and after night three I was done.
My husband feels ripped off, it does not feel like you spent $5000 for a bed its feels cheap. The hard foam edge requires you to pull yourself out and it is impossible to sleep next to someone else. The only positive is the 7000 model has a cool core in it which my husband loves (he is a hot sleeper) of course I will find a cool mattress pad at a home store and fix that. We purchased a new mattress last night and I can't wait for it to be delivered. I will be sleeping on the couch till it comes.
I called customer service 5 nights after receiving our bed and wanted to make arrangements to have it returned. She was so nasty and treated me like I was just an idiot. I calmly explained to her that I'm sure it just wasn't the bed for us and she kept saying I needed to give it time and adjust to it. I haven't had back pain in months and now I was walking like an L but I was supposed to skip work and not be able to function with my kids because I was trying to adjust to a new bed. She said someone would call me to arrange for a pickup and hung up on me. I feel the beds in the store are definetly set up different to hide the design items that most people seem to complain about.
There is a definite difference when you get your bed home and it is not worth the money you pay for this. Out money for delivery and pick up delivery but so glad it is leaving. If you are looking for one then why not buy one from an unhappy customer and save a few thousand. There are a lot of ads out there for new beds with a few nights use. I can see why.

After months of doctoring with sinus problems, post nasal drip, chronic cough and vertigo, upon advice from a friend, we finally checked our mattress. Sure enough...we found mold! Mold on bottom of surface of gray foam transferring to the air pockets of the mattress. I have had to move to another bedroom, I've had at least 5 or 6 doctor appts for the above conditions and have spent a considerable amount of money on over- the -counter medications for allergy and sinus relief and cough medicines in addition to prescribed medications for allergies. All of which have given me no relief.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A SLEEP NUMBER BED! My husband and I have owned one since 2004. The last few months I have become ill with constant sinus problems and severe allergy symptoms. So severe that it has affected my ability to work at times and I have had to miss work as a result. My husband was recently diagnosed with Asthma from our doctor and has been taking medicine to treat it. None of this made sense until today. I have been doing my own research into why we've had these symptoms and today I found the answer: I happened upon a website that talked about mold being a notorious problem with the Sleep Number bed. I ran upstairs and pulled back the foam mat and there it was on both sides of the bed: MOLD!
Sleep Number has known about this problem and has purposely not made consumers aware of it. They say that they have solved the problem on the beds made since 2005 by treating them with an anti-microbial agent. When I tried to get information on what chemicals are used in this treatment, I was told by a supervisor they could not disclose this information but was assured it was non-toxic. I wanted to see the documentation to support this and they said they would only provide it if I sent a request in writing, which I have.
But here's the point: Why would you buy a bed from a company that would knowingly withhold information from consumers that could potentially seriously affect their health? It's tantamount to the tobacco industry knowingly withholding the debilitating effects of smoking. And doesn't it raise the question that if they would refuse to disclose this information for the health of their consumers, what else are they withholding? What exactly is in the supposedly non-toxic anti-microbial treatment that they are now putting on their beds to prevent mold? Do you think they would tell you if it was toxic?

I spent $6,200 for a bed that I can not sleep in. We have the king split. Little did I know that I would never cuddle with my husband again because of the 8 inches of hard foam that lines both mattresses. Also not to mention the gully in the middle. We have tried everything and now just have to shove pillows in the middle so we dont fall into the middle. I know I wil be having to buy a new bed soon but it is hard to know you made a 6,200 mistake- customer service is not a help- forget it, your not getting your money back. I wish I had read this site first- dont buy this bed, its awful.
$6,200 down the drain. Numbness of fingers to elbow upon awaking due to that hard foam

After seeing on the news about Select Comfort beds having a MOLD issue, My husband and I decide to check ours out. Sure enough the foam and the grey lining is black. Several yeras ago, my husband started developing some kind of sickness, and since then we have been going from doctor to doctor and test after test to find what is wrong. Finally I may have something of interest for the Doctors to check.
We also have a dog that sleeps on the bed and she has been going to the Vet for lung issues.I have been having alot of sinus issues, headaches, memory problems and respitory problems also... Maybe we found our causes. I am SO dissapointed that Select Comfort took no action in notifing it's customers and alerting them to the potenial mold problem.
At this point I have no choice but to take pictures of the bed and get it out my home as soon as possible. I am still undecided on what action I will take against Select Comfort, BUT, they have a HUGE responsability to us and every other Select Comfort bed owner out there.

Spent about $4,000 for a NEW king size, dual control, pillow top bed from Select Comfort. One side leaked. They replaced it all right, with someone elses bed.
The replacement had ink stamped right on the mattress, REFURBISHED. I was appauled.
I contacted Customer Service. Response: We reserve the right to substitute products or components of equal or better value. I bought a NEW MATTRESS and it leaked. I expect an ethical business to replace it with a NEW MATTRESS.

Approx. two months after receiving the bed, the mattress started to slide over and overhang the rest of the bed. After returning to the store 2 or 3 times and being told each time that I have to call customer service, they shipped me out 2 new mattress covers. Since They were the ones to put the bed together, I asked that they come out to fix it. I was refused.
Went back to Store and againg was told that they couldn't do anything for me. So I called their delivery department and they finally agreed to come out. The installers that came out said that the bed was originally put together wrong, They installed the parts and the bed was ok.
Now approx a month or so later the mattress is doing it again. Customer service is sending me out another cover BUT wants $149 to come out and install it. They do not care that the bed was put togther wrong and will not honor their mistake.
I paid $6000 for a bed that was guaranteed yet they put it together wrong and want me to pay.

This company is using bait and switch tactics regarding warranty terms and conditions. It is sold as a fully covered ten year warranty in the showroom, and when you call the company for service, they tell you the warranty is pro-rated. They will not work with you and do not care if you spent thousands of dollars with them. The idea is close the sale, and screw them down the line. The possibility of a class action suit should be entertained.

I just want to say ANYONE thinking of buying a Select Comfort bed should think twice. We bought a bed from them the middle class grade. And paid too much $2200. For nothing. That is the most UNCOFORTABLE bed we have ever slept on. There TV sales add is far from the true. We bought are bed from them because my husband has a bad back. And he can not get comfortable in that bed for anything. He is like sleeping with a frying fish. Flipping all night more now than he ever has in our 12 years of marriage. I on the other hand have no back problems. But I wake up each morning with lower back aches. And it is very frustrating. I get up early just to get out of that annoying bed. Not because I am rest. It is so ridiculous. This bed is just like a padded camping mattress. And just like you can adjust the air in the is the same as a Select Comfort bed.
They just make it look all nice with the bed like padding. My husband likes a firm mattress. His side of the mattress is like a tight padded raft. I prefere a softer padded mattress. And for this main reason alone we THOUGHT the this bed would work out great for us. How WRONG we were. My side of the bed is like a sink hole. The bed DOES NOT I repeat NOT form to your body. This bed is a pure JOKE. And they are the ones laughing and getting rich in the process. While we all spend our hard earned money try to find a good nights rest. Which means everything these days. With lifes crazy schedules. Warning whatever you do think twice maybe ever three and four times before buying one of these beds. They are a BIG waste of money and I can't wait to get rid of our bed. I think it is worth $500 or LESS but NOT a cent more. It truly is a glorifed air mattress.
Still NOT getting a solid or good nights rest, both waking up with lower back aches after sleeping in this bed. Costed too much money.

I have to echo the sentiments of some of the other people on this site. If you're lucky enough to have found this before you purchased, I envy you, you can save yourself a few grand. I believe I've had my bed for about a year and a half, so this isn't a first-impression type of comment. I'm a somewhat large man (6'2, 250lbs), and even when I weighed 50-70lbs less about a decade ago, I tore through mattresses like most people go through underwear. It seemed that within just a few months of buying one, there would be a sag in the middle that I would end up filling, sleeping in an awkward position that would contribute to aches, pains, and pinched nerves. I thought an adjustable air mattress would solve everything, and I still believe it's possible, just not these Select Comfort Sleep Number beds. The foam they use around the edges reduces the usable size of the mattress signficantly. But the piece in between the right and left chambers on the dual-chamber beds is the worst.
As other people have noted, it (whether your chambers are set at the same setting or not) creates a chasm that, just like on traditional mattresses, my body seems drawn towards. Even when I'm situated in the middle of my chamber, I still feel like I'm tilted at an angle, which shouldn't be possible with an air mattress and a strong, flat surface supporting it. What is going on?! I've also noticed the dampness on the air chamber when I take off the sheets. It freaked me out the first time I saw it - I thought, 'did I wet my bed?!'. I thought maybe I was having some kind of medical problem. Nice to know it's 'only' a poorly designed product that will eventually result in mold.
It also is uncomfortable at certain firmness settings without a foam topper as some people have noted. If the firmness goes down past a certain level, the bed starts to make loud crinkling noises with every move and it can easily distract a light sleeper. The feel of the bed material is also more noticeable at those settings - it feels 'heavy' and is rather uncomfortable. I think Halina of San Carlos CA nailed it when she said, The bed is nothing more that a camping type air mattress. about four inches thick, topped with egg crate foam and a padded cover.
That said you can probably build your own air mattress bed for thousands less than buying one of these Select Comforts. I really like the idea of being able to adjust the firmness, so if you get tired of the feel of the bed or think a firmer or softer feel will give you a better sleep, you can just press a button and change it without having to buy a whole new bed. But because of the way the Sleep Number is designed it just doesn't provide what I need and doesn't seem much different than a traditional mattress. So $2,200 and the same aches, pains, and pinched nerves later, I'm still looking for a good night's sleep.

We bought a king, pillow top, totally adj. bed (head, foot, massage) 4 years ago for over $4000. The first 6 months was okay. Then we noticed we both had dips on our side of the bed. The pillow top had already compressed to the degree we could visually see it and physically feel it. Contacted customer service and they sent out another pillow top. It did the same thing within 8 months. They refused to do anything more about it and accused us of wanting something for nothing. We tried shaking the pillow top, vacuming it, etc. We finally bought some foam and tried shoreing up the areas that were compressed on the pillow top. It didn't help at all. We have spent the last 2 years trying to get comfortable in this bed...to no avail.
We went out yesterday and bought a Serta. I can't wait to have a good nights rest. I would not reccommend this company or their beds to anyone. The customer service is unhelpful, rude and the company does not back up their product. In my own business, I have found that treating the customer like gold has really paid off. Apparently this company is not concerned with their bottom line, customer dissatisfaction or that fact they are apparently loosing money and laying off people. I am and will tell everyone I know to stay away from this company and their beds. Bad Bad investment.
Sleepless nights for over 2 years. My arms fall asleep every night...back pain, wake up feeling like I've been run over. Wasted $4000, had to buy another mattress. It there is ever a class action suit with disgrutled comsumers, I want to be in on it.

I was reading through this site and found a few people dissatisfied with their SC bed. My wife and I have had a wonderful experience with our 3 SC beds. I was a few days away from going to a sleep clinic for my insomnia. After trying many inner spring beds with little success we tried s SC 7000 king. With in a week of owning the bed I cancelled the appointment. I started to sleep better than ever. We have since then purchased one for our guest room and cabin. Never had a single issue. Just my experience.

The product is a disgrace. You can't use about one-third of the bed because the center divided and the edges are so stiff. You end up in a pocket on your side of the bed. So there is this no man's land that is difficult to cross if I want to be closer to my wife.
The second night we had the bed I was in bed and checked the number; it was low so I started to add air. The pump quit responding and all the air went out of my side of the bed. At this point I could not get the controller to do anything for either side of the bed. I finally tried unplugging the motor from the electricity and plugging it back in. That resulted in the controller returning to operation.
My wife has noticed that she is very warm from the bed in the morning. And that there is moisture buildup on her side of the mattress pad. The mattress does not maintain its pressure setting. My back hurt this morning. According to the digital controller sometimes the pressure moves up and sometimes it moves down. I am very good with mechanical things and I can't see why this would happen.
When I called to schedule a return they almost expressed shock that I would want to send it back after only 3 nights. We can help you. You probably have never slept on an air mattress before. It can take some time to get used to. Blah blah blah. They treated me in a way that I felt was condescending and patronizing (and I thanked them for it!).
The return procedure is complicated in that they don't provide you with boxes for the return. I would guess that this dissuades some people from sending their bed back. It's a BED. I should be able to lie down on it and go to sleep. I don't want to fidget and adjust the thing. It is a good idea, but poorly executed. But at their Customer Support line they try like anything to get you to keep it and make their little tweaks and adjustments. The bed has serious inherent limitations. The nuisances of the last three nights plus all the remarks of other SC owners on this site lead me to believe that I am better off just moving on. The day after they set up the bed I stumbled on this webpage. I am so glad. I have slept on the bed for three nights and have decided to return it. Yeah, I will be out another $200 bucks for the return, but that beats the backaches and uncomfortable sleep.

I bought a SC bed almost 20 years ago before the sleep number concept was invented. It was just an adjustable air mattress with foam edging. I soon learned that it needed a foam pad on top to soften the surface so we spent $100 at a mattress store and bought a 2 dimpled foam topper. From there I learned if I inflated it too much, my shoulders and upper back would go out. If I slept on my side my lower arm and fingers would go to sleep but my lower back felt great. On the other hand if I softened it too much my shoulders, neck, arms and fingers would feel better but my lower back (No 4-5 Lumbar) would scream bloody murder requiring me to toss and turn throughout the night to relieve the pain. Even with these observations it was and is the best bed I ever bought. The worst year of my life was spent on a $1500 Waveless, heated, state of the art water bed. Having said that, I would never defend that it is perfect or that it will cure all back pain. The key was in the adjustable nature of the bed. So much so that I recently contacted Select Comfort and asked them if I could buy a 4 bladder bed. I needed independent support for my low back (firmer) and independent support for my Upper neck and shoulders for both my wife and I hence the need for two adjustable bladders on each side.
I was dissappointed by their lack of response or interest in helping me. I got the typical run around of we don't sell a bed like that and we don't make special beds. Having read the comments on this site I'm now even less inclined to invest in another SC bed even though I'd love to have the no principle, I'm not willing to spend $450 to add it to my existing bed and it sounds like it may be more trouble than it is worth. My son bought a Queen sized Model 7000 a few years ago. He recently acquired a dog which chewed through the cord of one of his sleep number controllers. He called the SC Support (is that an oxymoron) desk only to be told that the cord is not serviced separately and he would need to spend $450 for a new motor and control set. Not Cool. I'm still looking for the perfect bed. I've tried quite a few in my 60 years but as I age perfection is harder to find and even satisfactory is elusive.

For us the product did not perform the way Select Comfort indicated it would. We purchased a 7000 Queen Set Dual Ptop, Wireless (Model QS41WX) for $2,700 sales price plus a $150 delivery charge on 2/18/08 with a 30-day trial period. The product was delivered on 3/4/08. Toward the end of March, we requested a return.
When we called customer service to schedule the return, we were told it would take 3-5 days to enter the return, two weeks to pickup the product and another two weeks to credit our account. They picked up the product on 4/10/08 and we paid a $200 return fee. We were never told that it would take four weeks or more before our account would be credited.
Now, for the problems with the product: we were not told by the sales organization that the settings would fluctuate up to 15 points in either direction, depending upon atmospheric conditions, room temperature, etc. After the first or second night, neither my wife nor I was able to sleep through the night. Each side of the bed formed a well or hammock-like condition that remained, even if we brought the settings up to the maximum of 100. The outer perimeter of the bed was rough on the skin and the center of the bed had a bulge. The materials retained the body heat, making the bed very warm.
Customer Service advised us that they were aware of that problem and had taken measures to correct the situation. I received no response to my question, as to why the correction had not been applied to the mattress we had. Customer Service also advised us that the store that sold the product should have advised us of the fluctuation in the settings. Finally, we were unpleasantly amazed at the assembly process with the number of piece-meal items that were inserted into the box spring and mattress, something which you would never see from the sales display.
No damage resulted, except for the loss of delivery and return expenses.

We've had the bed for 2 and half years. The pump malfunctioned within the first year. One side would fill but not the other one. The company replaced the pump and no cost. A year and some later the pump malfunctions again, this time it doesn't work at all. They want $ 160 for a replacement. Which doesn't sound like a lot, if at least 5 years or more had past after purchase. For a $ 3000+ bed, I think the pump should be of better quality. What guarantee do we have that this pump won't break within the next 12-18 months?
So far I've had 2 bad pumps, in 2 and a half years, so it doesn't speak well for this company. I feel like I will have to replace the pump every 12-18 months for a fee. What should I do? I think I was sold a defective pump the first time, and was replaced a refurbished pump the second time, that didn't last long either.

That would make the cost of the entire pump about $450. That alone seems out of line but you need a pump. I read the warranty but did not expect that for that amount of money I would be getting a refurbished pump....not a new one. We purchased our kind size select comfort bed on February 19, 2008. We still have until March 30 to decide on whether to return the bed or not. Our total purchase price was $6,220.00 which included a mattress pad and 2 sets of sheets. After reading the postings on this consumer affairs website and feeling 'damp when in our new bed, I decided to take it apart this weekend to see what was up. I took off the mattress pad and foam and saw two huge wet spots on the air mattress where our bodies had slept. I aired out the air chambers, foam and top to dry before making the bed. This of course was the weekend so I just called customer service today to ask about the problem and how to eliminate the moisture and was told that this process is called transperation and is from perspiration. I told her that I did not agree, that it appeared to me that the moisture was from condensation, from the temperature difference from the air mattress and our bodies. She also said that until 2001 there was a mold problem from the moisture but not now because the mattress is treated. I really don't like the idea of having this moisture there and feeling like I need to constantly dry the bed out. I guess I need to decide quickly whether to keep the bed or send it back. Also, for the person who reported that this only happens to those who are not clean, you are absolutely wrong. By no means are we dirty and this happended to us. I think that the company should explain this problem when they are sellling the bed. Oh, this would cause their sells to slump, wouldn't it?

My experience with the Select Comfort has been mixed. Both Great, and bad... My wife purchased our queen size select comfort while I was in Iraq in 2004/2005. Our previous Sealy top model mattress had lasted us only 6 years before it became so uncomfortable that after a few hours we had to get up due to the extreme discomfort. And the manufacturer would not cover their warranty.
So my wife decided to try the Select Comfort instead. Originally she had set it up with both the supplied plastic base and also our original box spring. She liked the bed to be higher.
In this configuration, the bed was extremely comfortable. Once I returned from Iraq though I decided to remove the box spring and just raise the frame of the bed. After about 2-3 months we too noticed that we started to fall towards the middle of the bed. I tried different foams in the center, different settings, etc... with no success.
It wasn't until I looked under the bed one day that I noticed that all the plastic crossmember supports had bowed at the center of the bed.
I decided to re-engineer the frame so that it had both head to foot and side to side support bars made of heavy bed frame angle steel bars.
It took about a week before the bed would set evenly on this frame without rocking side-to-side.
After that, we've had NO issues with the falling to the center problems.
I would suggest that if anyone doesn't want to go the route I did with their bed frames, that they consider a simple GOOD box spring support instead of the cheap plastic one that is supplied.
Or, if you still want to purchase this type of bed, my recommendation would be to use your original box spring if it's in good shape.
As I said, I love our select comfort bed, but only after I fixed the center sag problems... best of luck with your next purchase...

Every morning we wake up soaking wet in our $2000 bed. We have been told It is normal for the mattress to be moist inside because of the temperature difference between the air in the mattress and your body by the customer service department. Every week we have to take the bed completely apart, scrub the stains off the air chamber, and let the foam and padding dry, which takes about six hours.
We were given a replacement mattress with a different kind of zipper, and after two months the zipper has broken. We still have all of the same problems with the replacement. The bed adjusts itself- the sleep number does not remain at what we set it at. I was told by customer service that bed has sensors inside that adjust to your body's pressure. This is not true. The bed is also extremely uncomfortable due to the two inch foam strip that separates the two chambers. It has a hammock effect that causes us constant back pain and horrible sleep. The bed is nothing more that a camping type air mattress. about four inches thick, topped with egg crate foam and a padded cover. We are out $2000 (that we had to take a loan out from the company for) and the worst bed ever. I even wrote a letter to the CEO with no response. We have received nothing but excuses and down right lies from the company's customer service department.

We purchased a model 5000 bed about 5 years ago and paid about $2000 for it. This was our first new bed purchase and we spent over two hours at the store asking questions and listening to the sales agent. During this we asked how the foam would hold up considering we are larger people and we were assured it was very durable and could stand up for years, no problem.
We loved the bed for the first few weeks but then the mattress started to creep down off the frame every night and we would have to slide it back up. Minor issue for a comfortable sleep so we just got used to it. Then after about 2 years we noticed the sides starting to mushroom out and the pillowtop all but collapsed. Now after 5 years the one side air chamber will not stay up and this is the final straw.
We had contacted the store about the sliding and they said to put drawer liners underneath the mattress, we did this and ended up with them rolled up and useless. We contacted the store about the mushroomed sides and they told us to put better fitting sheets like the ones they sell. Well this final time I called the customer service line cause it is more than a visual or minor inconvenience. This was a total failure of the product and has rendered it useless. My wife made the initial call and was informed that we are out of our two year 100 percent warranty and in our pro rated period and that the part needed will cost $60.00 plus freight.
During the sales pitch we were told items such as the pillowtop and mattress cover were only covered for 2 years but the structural foam and air chambers were covered for the full period and if they ever failed they were covered. That is what eased our minds in the purchase was the fact that at least if the foam fell apart or the air chamber leaked it was covered. Now I feel like I fell for a Nigerian check scam cause I paid $2000 for an air mattress I could have bought at walmart for $20. Now, after the whole process, I have to give the company more money to make their inferior product useful again or go back into debt and buy a real mattress from a company that uses big boy materials instead of children's toy materials that can't even hold up for half of the claimed lifespan of the product. I have bought used matresses from hotel supply companies and gotten more use out of them than this. I am very dissapointed because I could have bought a new cheap matress from a store every year and it still would have been cheaper than this gimmick of a product that the company sells just to sell parts for the thing later to the poor saps like me that get suckered into buying it.
I will either have to spend over 100 dollars to fix their product and continue using the marginal product with the flaws that were mentioned knowing that it may fail again or bite the bullet and spend more money I don't have to buy a new bed. Meanwhile I am stuck sleeping on the couch. It seems every product these days come with all kinds of guarantees and warranties but very few actually stand behind their products when they fail. Select Comfort is NOT one of the companies that does.

We purchased a Queen size select comfort bed. It was set up and almost immediately started losing air. When we complained, we were told we must purchase an additional support system. We chose to return the bed as defective. We thought this was the end of this bad experience.
Now a year and a half later, we have received a call from their credit company stating that we owe them money. We have never received any statements regarding any balance. We also did not authorized any additional charges. To our knowledge the bed was returned as defective and all delivery and pick up charges waived. Now Select Comfort is stating that invoice were sent to wrong address-seems they knew where to deliver and pick up mattress but not where to send invoices. We are now being charged late fees and interest on something we don't owe.

We purchased this bed Jan. 2004. At first we thought it was the best bed ever, but after sleeping on it for awhile we noticed that the air kept seeping out. They did send us a new pump (then accused us of not sending back the bad one). That seemed to help. We then noticed that the bed sagged in the middle, making it very uncomfortable to sleep on. They then send us a few pieces of foam to insert in the mattress area. It never really did anything. We just kind of figured this is what you had to put up with. I would have to sleep on the very edge of the bed in order to be able to sleep somewhat comfortable. The whole in the middle was awful.
Well, we did not use it for about 2 years, but recently thought we would try it out again. We noticed that the mattress pad's zipper is broken and they want $234.00 to replace it on a bed that is only 4 years old. I have been corresponding with them, asking if I did purchase this mattress pad, would it help with the sagging to which they won't answer that question. I was told it was a man-made product and that unfortunately sometimes there are problems with man-made products. After so many sleepless nights, sore back, shoulder and neck aches, I decided to look online and see if anyone else had this problem. Looks like they do! Now I am concerned about MOLD - I will be checking for that, which is another whole issue. We have not been feeling good since we started to sleep on this bed the beginning of this year.
These beds are not cheap, ours cost $1668.45. Well, I feel better knowing that we are not crazy and not LOVING our sleep number bed as Lindsay Wagner would say on her endorsement for this bed. I wonder if she has ever slept on one for any length of time. We are the ones pictured rolling around on the inner spring mattress, but only we are on our sleep number bed! I don't know if this makes any sense to you, I am tired, sore and angry right now and wanted to voice my feelings about this bed.

We have three Select Comfort air beds. We recently discovered mold in one of them. After contacting Customer Service, they are sending us out new replacement parts at no charge to us. One of our other Select Comfort beds has the sagging effect in the middle of the bed. We have contacted Customer Service, and both things they have told us to do to remedy the problem have not worked, including purchasing new foam inserts. We didn't know other people were also having these problems until we Googled Select Comfort mold and found the Consumer Affairs complaints on Select Comfort air beds. Our third bed so far is doing well.
I had been having allergy symptoms for the last year or so and thought it was something at work, then saw on our Fox 6 News a story about mold in these air beds, so I'm hoping these allergy symptoms are from that and eventually go away.

First I have to say I am an employee at Select Comfort, and I am also a bed owner. I LOVE my bed, I chose to purchase it after I became an employee. Yes, even after the mold scare and knowing that things can leak. I bought it because I believe in our product. I actually work in the customer service call center and take all these calls everyday. Truth be told, yes, they can get mold, but honestly it is RARE and we replace anything affected no questions asked. We have a warranty for a reason, this is electronics we are dealing with so yes, things can happen, but we also are here to help with problems. If you are waking up in a hammock in the morning, call us. It can be fixed easily. If you are rolling to the middle, call us, we have a fix for that too. I, as a bed owner, am very happy. And as an employee with Select Comfort, I am here to help you love your bed too! I promise it can be done, call us and you will be able to see how helpful we are. And PS as for referral money for doctors, it's a NO, they receive discounts, so in all honesty the own our beds too .

We have had our Select Comfort beds for over 10 years. We have had our share of problems, such as the hammock effect, and the bed losing air overnight. And most recently, mold. Well, everything that I'd read online about Select Comfort's customer service, was negative. So I dreaded making the call. But when I did get a hold of someone, she was extremely pleasant, and told me that even though I have a prorated warranty, they will send me the parts I needed for free. (I needed new air chambers, foam divider, and foam topper.) I was pleasantly surprised! I explained that we also had the problem of the hammock effect, and she replied that we could have called as soon as it started and they would have sent a new divider. They are made of foam, so they do break down.
Anyhow, I got my first package, containing the chambers, and the divider only 3 business days after calling customer service. I was concerned that I hadn't received the foam topper yet, and had planned to call back the next day, but by the time I got around to the point I was going to call, the foam topper showed up at my doorstep. My guess is that they came from separate locations. I put my bed together with the new parts, and I have to say that all the problems were solved. No more ending up on the box spring in the morning because all the air leaked out, no more hammock, and no more mold. And the new foam topper is even more comfortable than the other one. These air chambers have been pre-treated to hinder mold growth. The mold was a known problem, and I worried they were going to charge me for the replacement parts, but I worried for nothing. I had no problems getting the new parts and getting them free of charge. I slept better last night than I have in years. All because my bed is pretty much like new in condition. Had I known that I could have gotten a new divider and that getting new chambers would solve all of the problems, I would have done so a long time ago! Please call customer care if you are having these problems, they are much more pleasant than they are reported to be!

On May 7, 2004, I purchased a 7000 Queen Mattress from Select Comfort. Two years later the air pump (mattress inflator) failed. The results were that the mattress would deflate every few hours. They replaced the air pump at no cost to me. In November of 2007, the air pump failed again. Select Comfort would not back their product, therefore I was required to purchase a new pump for $204.04. Their position was that the warranty on the bed had expired. The warranty on the bed should not effect the air pump which was replaced less than two years prior. Since the pump is only used to change the air pressure in the mattress, over a two year period the pump was used approximately 20 minutes. In my opinion, Select Comfort should replace the pump at no cost to me. Their air pump should last more than 20 minutes. The second issue with the new air pump is not new. On the air pump it indicates it is rebuild. Thank you.

We purchased a Select Comfort 5000 Model bed back in Jan. 2007. We had it delivered in Feb. 07, when we moved in our new house. We had nothing but problems with it from right after the 30 days was up. From problems with the pump not working properly to them replacing the foam inside the bed, then the air chambers, then the outer covering because it was sagging, and lastly the pillow top cover. IT WAS HORRIBLE. We finally gave up on it after over a year of chiropractic visits due to severe hip and neck pain. With this model you get separate chambers. I was always on a slant. I switched sides with my husband and shortly after that even on the other side I found myself on a slant. It seemed like his weight was affecting my side of the bed. This went on for 6-8 months and I asked for a refund, after all they represent the bed as having a 20 year warranty. They said it was too late. I had been calling them since the day it was delivered with problems. I think that someone needs to take action and file a class action lawsuit against this company. They have completely mis-represented their product. It is junk. I really could not afford to buy another bed (after all I had already paid over $1600 for this one) but I had no choice. I could not afford to live in pain anymore. I have bought beds from other companies and if they have a 20 year warranty, and they replace it, and it doesn't work you get your $ back. They should be held accountable for not holding up to their guarantee. I have written to the Federal Trade Commission.

I got more then I hoped for with my Select Comfort. I am actually considering buying a new one for myself and another for my daughter. I find these mattresses to be fairly priced and worth the money. When I bought my Select Comfort the company was in its infancy and the price was comparable to decent regular mattresses, I spent $1500 and doubt if I had bought the other mattress I was looking at for $2000 I would still be sleeping on it, definitely not. I bought my bed (top of the line 9000, Queen, dual chambers) a little over 2 months ago, and it's been a nightmare from the very beginning. First, I had problems with the installation - the first mattress pad was stained and the foundation cover was ripped. Two weeks later, they sent someone to replace the mattress pad but that person was not authorized to do the foundation. So, another two weeks later, someone comes and puts on the new foundation cover--of course, my having to take the entire bed apart and put it back together each time. This is an all day task that I had to endure 3 times within the 30 day trial. Then, after 32 days, I notice that the bed sags in the middle, and that the mattress poofs away from the bed just at the place where the foundation folds. With further investigation, I find that the gray interfacing on the mattress pad cover is ripped where the bed folds - probably got ripped by so many installation attempts.
So I complain. They tell me to vacuum the cover (as mentioned by others) and flip the pads. Well, when I look at the pads, they have already started to RIP right at the spot where the bed folds. They send me a new mattress cover, but the zipper for the new cover and the old mattress do not line up, which means that I have to take the bed completely apart, remove the air chambers, take out the bolts to the foundation, install the mattress, re-bolt it to the foundation and put it all together again. If I had wanted to do all of this, or been able to do it, I would have done it in the beginning. Of course, they don't tell you all of that when so-called customer service offers to send you out a new pad. So, I have to put the old, raggedy pad back on and send the new one back because I have absolutely no idea how to assemble the bed, nor do I have the means to do it. And what's even better, the box they sent is so huge that I have to call UPS to come and pick it up from my home - and get this - I have to pay for it!
So, $5000 later, I'm stuck with a raggedy bed I haven't even begun to pay for. I had my old box spring mattress for over 10 years (I know - way too long) and covered it with an imitation temperpedic mattress cover purchased from Costco that made it oh-so-comfy. The only reason why I got rid of my old bed was because, well, it was old. Too old. But, it never did me wrong like this new-fangled, expensive, money pit. And, I have the same problems as everyone else: I sleep on the side but I'm drawn to the middle. If I put both sides at the same number, I still feel drawn to the middle. When I level the bed out, it sags in the middle. One side loses pressure religiously. I'm not looking forward to mold and moisture problems that others have related. To say that I am very disappointed is an understatement. I only hope to have finished paying off the bed before I have to buy a new one. I'll definitely check out consumer affairs before I make another purchase!

Also I was told that the condensation on the chambers was normal and all mattresses do that, but you cannot get inside regular mattresses. I think it should be known that most of the issues that I have read here seem totally biased. I bought my Sleep Number bed 7 years ago and it has been heaven. How could you have issues with a bed you can adjust? Reading some of the emails has made me realize that most of these complaints are from people who have issues and don't know how to remedy them. People actually complain that the can't sleep in the middle of the bed. Well, it is not designed for that. That is why these people probably have sleep and back issue to begin with. You can have the best hammer made but it doesn't mean you can build a house.
I have never had a problem with my bed, but if I did, at least I could replace a single part to fix it. What bed can you do that with? And what really gets me is the people who wrote about the shipping cost for returning the bed. They let you try the bed out for 30 days and you think they should waive the charges? And for those people who have mold in their bed, use a mattress protector and lose weight. Imagine the difference it would make. There is no mattress out there you wouldn't get mold in. Mold is formed from moisture, your moisture....look it up!

We wanted to replace our mattress cover and Select Comfort wants to charge $400.00 for a replacement cover. Our air pump recently went out and does not work. We bought our sleep number bed about a year ago. I feel like a fool when I tell people I have one and they ask me how I like it. I am still paying for the stupid thing and I'm not all that happy with it. My back pain did improve - I woke up on my old mattress feeling like I'd fallen down a mountain in the night - EVERYTHING hurt. Now I wake up relatively pain-free.
I do have a bit of a problem with rolling toward the middle when my husband is not in the bed. My remedy for this problem is to grab his pillow and cuddle it so I CAN'T roll over, or I just turn onto my other side. And when he gets in the bed when I'm lying there, my side poofs up. It's kinda fun (haha), but I don't think it's supposed to do that.
Another problem is that on my side of the bed, the side foam has collapsed. I'm ashamed for anyone to see my bed when no one is in it. It looks like a 40-year old mattress that belonged to an 800 pound person. Our numbers, by some miracle, stay the same (so far) but there are big dips where we lay. Actually, I think WE'RE the big dips. Money is not something we have in surplus by any means, so we are stuck with this stupid bed until we feel like we've gotten our money's worth out of it, or we win the lottery, neither of which may ever happen.
Now that I really think about it, I can't believe how stupid we were for paying so much money for a glorified air mattress. And shame on the company for charging so much in the first place. But I guess they know there's a fool born every minute. And one more thing - I'm half afraid to sleep on my bed because of all the complaints I've read about mold. I'm afraid to go look. Yuck!

This was a $7000+ bed for us. From the start, it was not a success. My husband discovered he was hotter and more uncomfortable on the Sleep Number bed than even on a normal mattress. Meanwhile, my side seemed to be consistently losing air. I phoned their customer support and was informed that I must just not be lying on the bed when checking the pressure. Ok, fine... I lay on the bed, and guess what, I had set it at 55 the night before, and now it was at 15.
The next night, I set it to 55, and in the morning it was down to 35. I called customer service again and this time I was told that if it was leaking, the drop would always be the same amount. The fact it was something different each morning proved that it wasn't leaking, but rather that I was somehow using it wrong. See... here's the problem I have with that: how exactly does one use a bed incorrectly? I called Customer service back yet again, and this time I was told I needed to test it by removing the air hoses and capping the holes in the mattress with these two little white plastic caps from our kit. I had all the installers had left behind in a box, and there were no, repeat, no little white caps.
The customer service woman insisted they must be there or I had lost them. Then she told me I would have to go down to a local store and pick up a set to run this test for them before they would come out and check out why my side of the bed is losing 20-40 points of air per night. Some nights I wouldn't even sleep on the bed, and it would still lose pressure. As of now, 3 months after we bought the bed, we still haven't had any resolution of the problem of my side losing air, nor of my husband's side having miserable hot spots. The closest we've come to solving the latter is, Select Comfort has come out with a new mattress pad they will happily sell us that will prevent hot spots from developing. As if.

However, recently I woke up in the middle of the night lying on the bottom of the bed; the mattress had deflated in the middle of the night. After some trouble shooting, I found that the small plastic piece within one of the hoses had cracked and was leaking air.

After less than 3 years of sleeping on our select comfort bed, we noticed a very bad odor coming from it. We proceeded to take it apart, piece by piece. The sheets were fine, the mattress pad was fine. But when we got down to the zippered comforter, it smelled terrible. Under the comforter, there is a foam pad, which was full of mold and bacteria. It smelled horrible. We are now sleeping on the floor, because we had to discard most of the bed.
Mold and bacteria cannot be removed from the foam pad, and the zippered comforter would fall apart if it was washed. We got burned badly on this one!

I bought a sleep number bed in summer of 2003 and it is one of the worst investments I have ever made. I had lower back issues and I spent close to $3000 for the top of the line. The pump doesn't work, the remote is faulty, air is constantly leaking and I am having severe back pain. My husband who has never had back pain is now complaining. Customer service really doesn't care and only way to rectify the issue is to buy new parts.
Since there are multiple issues, they can't necessarily pin point how the air is leaking. To send out a technician is another $150. They wanted me to start out with a new air pump and if that doesn't work then they will trouble shoot again. Mind you, I don't get a refund for the replacement air pump if that is not the issue. My solution is to ditch this bed and buy a regular mattress for 1/4 of the cost with no parts that can be replaced. I really hope the authorities will take notice of this sham of a company!

At the time we were heavily influenced by the company's claims in their advertising. Several months after our purchase, however, I noticed that every time I woke up, which happened frequently during the night, I found myself in the middle of the bed partly crowding my wife's sleeping space. Additionally, I found that for the first time in my life I began waking up with back and muscle aches every morning and wondered if it was caused by the mattress. I took the bed apart and found that the plastic panel mattress foundation was sagging in the middle.
I replaced the panels with 5/8 inch plywood and supported the plywood in the middle by adding a couple of wooden legs. The problem persisted and I decided to call Select Comfort for advice on how to remedy the problem. The lady on the telephone was very friendly and seemed to be familiar with my problem and told me that she would send out a part that I should install to fix it. When the box arrived I was astounded to find a flimsy piece of foam in it measuring about one and a half inch by 72 inches. I knew at once that that would not fix my problem but I installed it anyway...it made no difference whatsoever. I also kept adjusting the numbers on my mattress from settings of 20 to 70 pounds in five pound increments.

We were under the impression that we could take the bed apart and drive back to the store in Columbia, which is approximately 35 miles from our home, and return it if we didn't want it.
We had problems from the very beginning with rolling to the center of the bed, the bed deflates during the night and you wake up in a hole. They sent us a piece of cheap foam to put in the bed to correct this problem. We were told by the operator that this is a common problem that the company will have to deal with at some point. The foam didn't help only made it worse. We called the store we bought it from to tell them we were bringing it back, only to find out we have to ship it to Minnesota which will cost app. $150 OR we can have them come back to our house and disassemble the bed and ship it back for $200!
WE paid them $150 to set it up because they said it was hard to do by ourself and we don't have a truck to get the bed from Columbia. So far our FREE 30 DAY HOME TRIAL HAS COST US $350 PLUS WE BOUGHT A $170 (on sale!) down mattress pad which we are stuck with also. So we are OUT $520 and have nothing to show for it. It didn't do anything, so we called them back. They then sent us a much thicker piece of foam, but it ended up just making a big bump in the middle of our bed. We still feel like we are sloping on either side of the bed.
Next, we were watching the news in our area and they did a story about mold growing on the foam and air chambers. We checked our mattress and we also have a blanket of mold on the foam. We called again and they said the only thing they would do was to send us new foam. They also said they would send us another piece to help with the sloping. They were unconcerned about the mold, and we were told that from now on, we need to air our bed out once a month.
Not only that, but we requested they send a letter out to all the consumers letting them know about the mold problem. Their response was that they aren't going to do that, but all new costumers will be getting better instructions on how to care for their bed.

The sleeping comfort of the bed is wonderful. However, we discovered mold on the air mattresses. We live in an arid area of Southern California. Also, the frame cracked and collapsed at the head of the bed. I weigh 100 and my husband 170. He had to make a plywood platform for it. For the money you pay it is a rip off. I would never recommend this bed.

For my lower back pain, my chiropractor suggested that I buy a Select Comfort bed. I ordered the bed in the beginning of January, and it took about a month and a half for them to finally come and set it up. I was immediately unhappy with it. I paid over $1,000 for a cheap air mattress on top of a plastic foundation. Came complete with a cover that at least made it "look" like a decent bed.
My chiropractor told me that it takes a few months to get used to it, but that I would love it once I did. Well, it's been 5 months since they set this monstrosity up. There is no return policy at this point, and I have more back pain in my upper back than I can stand. I have no doubt that this horrible bed is to blame.

In the fall of 2003 we bought the extended queen Select DIScomfort mattress and bed frame. I haven't had a decent night's sleep since! Unfortunately, my husband loves it. He sleeps with a softer setting than I do, so for much of the night I am trying not to roll onto the softer side of the bed.
If I try a softer setting, my back hurts so much it is a challenge to crawl over the rigid edge. I do admit that the mattress is fairly comfortable IF one sleeps on their back. The body in a moderate V shape is much like a hospital bed with elevated head and feet. However, if one sleeps on their side, and the head and feet are higher than the hips, a V shape is not comfortable. The body is not meant to be bent into that uncomfortable position.

I noticed the problems that customers had with Select Comfort. I got a queen size bed and have found it to work as expected. No problems. Maybe I was lucky.

Select Comfort guarantees a "risk free" 30 day trial. They claim that you have nothing to lose by trying their beds out. It's not the truth though. We bought a bed from them for $2400.00 with the expectation that if we are not completely satisfied we could simply return it. From the moment it arrived, we were unsatisfied.
It is nothing more than a blow-up mattress with foam covering it. If you inflate the mattress to a firm setting, you feel like you're on top of a bubble, which you are - it does not inflate evenly. I called Select Comfort within two days of receiving the product requesting to return the product. I was told that they would not take the "Adjustable Frame" back, only the mattress. I was told that I signed a waiver. No, I did not sign anything, my husband purchased the bed for us. He was rushed through the "initial here" and "initial there" for delivery purposes. Nothing was ever said about not being able to return the entire bed.
The "adjustable frame" is $1500 of the purchase, which they are claiming is nonrefundable. I have contacted the company repeatedly, but they are robotic and just keep repeating themselves. They are not problem solvers, to say the least.

I have ordered an air mattress pump from Select Comfort and returned the pump back to them along with a note to request a refund but did not receive a refund. Listed below is my comments/reply that I've e-mailed to them to request my refund and their reply that they e-mailed back to me.
My e-mail to them:
This is to remind/inform you that back in Sept. or Oct. of 2003 I ordered an air mattress pump from you, that I've paid $100 and sent the pump back to you within about a month for a refund but I have not received my refund yet. I have also made a postal delivery confirmation. So I have called the Select Comfort location in Minneapolis, MN 55442 in Jan. 2004 to confirm. They have informed me that my refund will appear on my next one or two bank statements which was February and March but I still have not received the refund and it has not appeared on my bank statements. So they told me to contact them again if my refund does not appear on my next 2 statements. So I am confirming again to let you know.
Their reply:
We apologize for our delay in responding to your concern. Our records indicate that the amount of money you owed for the cost of the replacement pump under the pro-rated portion of the warranty was $100. There is not a refund that is set to be credited back to you. Please contact us at the e-mail address below if you have any further questions or concerns.

I purchased a bed from Select Comfort and after a few nights was very unhappy. The sleepable area of the king was more like a queen. A large weight difference between my husband and I made the dual chambers extremely counter-productive rather than the claims made in all the demos.
In light of these problems we decided to return the bed. Four days had passed since we received the bed (about 9 days since we paid in full). When we called to find out how to go about the refund and return process, we were informed that our purchase was a final sale. This took us by sur prize as we were under the impression there was a 30-day return policy.
A customer service supervisor told us we bought a clearance bed and that it was a final sale. We were never told or given the slightest hint of this, we thought we just got a great deal. Nowhere on our invoice or on anything concerning our purchase did it say we wouldn't be able to return it. I spoke with customer service many times and none of the people I spoke to would acknowledge a copy of the Massachusetts law I found that clearly states (Mass. Gen. Law Chapter 93A 940 Code of Mass. Regs. 3.13) that a seller can have any type of return policy it wants ... "all sales final," "merchandise credit only," "full cash refunds within 30 days," etc. .. but that the seller's refund, return, or cancellation policy must be disclosed to the buyer clearly and conspicuously before the transaction is completed.
Usually, this is done by means of a sign at the point of purchase. Printing the store's return policy only on a cash register sales slip does not comply. You may return goods within a reasonable period of time if no return policy was disclosed. A seller cannot misrepresent its refund, return, or cancellation policy, or fail to honor any promises about it.

Purchased this over-priced, over-rated air mattress Jan, 1999. It leaked air from the beginning. Customer service department was of little help. Instructed to check for leak and do some adjustments. If that didn't fix it, they'd send us a new pump.
Now, you had to lift the king size mattress off the bed (a feat in itself) but you cannot get to the area where the tubing attaches to the mattress unless you cut a hole in fabric (which I did not do.) Consequently, we have let this go by (with aggravation) since we purchased this product. That we let it go on this long is our own fault, I realize that.
However, if a consumer pays over $3,500.00 (we did) for a product, the company should come and install it and demonstrate it. They demo was done at the store from which we purchased but of course they did not tell you of any potential problems. Customer service from the company sharply informed me that they did not have service technicians who would come to the home to correct the problem. I have sent the company another letter just to reiterate my opinion of them and their lousy product and worse yet, their lousy customer service practices.

The Select Comfort system allows mold and/or mildew to form on the convoluted foam topper and on the air mattresses. Select Comfort's solution "use a light bleach solution to clean the mattress." It's impossible to clean the foam. Their product is unhealthy for people like me who have allergies to mold/mildew. Also, the dual mattress system is not comfortable when one mattress is harder, you end up rolling to the softer mattress side of the bed. My husband sleeps on it by himself.

My husband and I purchased a Select Comfort bed. I suffer from arthritis and fibromyalgia and it has been about 10 years since I have slept thru the entire night. We were looking forward to me being able to get some sleep. We purchased the bed in October of 2002. This being after three attempts to get the right bed to us.
The long and short of the story is that the bed, after six months developed a "trench" in the middle. My husband and I were not able to get any sleep because we were rolling into each other all during the night. We called the company, they told us nothing could be done as our 30-night guarantee was over. (This had nothing to do with the 30 night guarantee, this was a malfunction of the bed).
They sent a piece of foam to "remedy" the problem. This did nothing except to make it like a speed bump in the middle of the bed. We called again, they sent another piece of foam. This, as expected, did nothing to give us any rest. Another phone call, another "sorry your 30 night guarantee is over," another piece of foam.
We spent $1500 for a bed that we thought would last us at least as long as our old mattress had. I am now in so much pain that my productivity level is very low, I am depressed because I hurt all the time and can't get the things done that I used to. Yes, existing health issues were already there, but they have only gotten worse with continued use of the bed.

On April 15 2003 I purchased a dual air queen set mattress from their store in Riverside CA. We had gone on vacation that month and were not in the bed enough to give it a chance. About two weeks after the 30-night trial was up I started having severe back and hip pain. The mattress would pump itself up from 35 to 55 in the middle of the night.

I purchased a dual air chamber full size mattress through the Select Comfort Mattress Co., via the internet. It was delivered and I set it up according to the directions. The bed is designed for the comfort of two people. One person could have firmer mattress on their side and the other person could have a softer side.
However, when one side is inflated softer than the other side the person on the firmer side feels like they are rolling into the softer side. So after several nights of discomfort for my boyfriend and I, I contacted the company and they informed me that my 30-night trial had expired so they could not give me a refund, but they would indeed try to fix the problem.
So they sent me a chamber lift for the softer side of the bed, to lift it up. This chamber lift was nothing other than a piece of foam, approximately 1/2 inch thick. They sent me directions on how to install this, which has diagrams of the problem and how this would fix the problem. Clearly I believe they were aware from other complaints that this was a problem, or they wouldn't have these diagrams.
So that didn't solve the problem, so I again contacted them and they sent me another chamber lift, and that also didn't solve the problem, but caused another problem. It made the soft side higher than the firm side, so again the rolling into the other side problem.
I again contacted them asking for a refund and they absolutely refused sticking to their 30 night guarantee, so they sent me again another piece of foam to place in the center of the bed, this caused a hill in the middle of the bed, then it felt like rolling out of bed on each side of the bed.
By this time I was very unsatisfied with their product and again asked for a refund, not asking for the money I had already paid, just asking them to take back their product, and credit my account for the remaining balance. They again refused with the same reason, the 30 days had expired. So again they sent me yet another piece of foam.
I was so frustrated with it that I decide to check their warranty, as the mattress comes with a 20 year warranty, and there I discovered that they don't cover the foam in their warranty, so I wondered why they were trying to fix a problem, that wouldn't be covered with what they were fixing the problem with. So that a year from now even if their foam inserts had fixed the problem, which it did not, I would indeed have the same problems, that would not be covered under their warranty again.
So I again contacted them and brought this to their attention, and they again just referred to their 30-night guarantee. I feel their product does not work as they say it will and neither will their attempts to fix it. They have told me that it is just a matter of my opinion, and they can do nothing about my being uncomfortable or unsatisfied with their product.
There must be a way to get a refund on this product, even though the 30-night trial had expired, and I would like to know how I could get credited to my account. I think that because of their attempt to fix the problems with something that they don't warranty, that they should give me a full refund and take back their product. I have put their mattress back in its shipping boxes and have bought another conventional mattress, because I could not sleep another night on this Select Comfort mattress.
The consequences of this are that I now owe over $1,200 to a finance company that is now harassing me for the money, and going to take it to collections if I don't pay. I don't want to pay for something I can't sleep on. This will damage my credit rating, which will make it hard for me to make purchases that need to be financed in the future. I was already turned down by the company I had to buy my new mattress from, due to this being on my credit record, so had to pay cash for the new mattress.
It has also caused me to lose sleep at night, do to the uncomfort of their mattress. Also caused a problem in my relationship with my boyfriend as he could not sleep on this mattress, and both of us would wake up with back pain in the morning. He would have to sleep on the couch, which was emotionally damaging to our relationship. I have also been emotionally damaged, by losing sleep at night and by this company not caring about my comfort.
