Synchrony Bank recently closed 3 of my accounts with them and this decision was completely unwarranted. I had two Guitar Center cards and one Levin Furniture card. I found out about this through a push notification with Credit Karma. I am more so concerned about the Levin account. I called into customer service and the first representative I spoke with was extremely rude. He told me a letter was sent to me and he read the text of that letter. He eventually hung up on me. The reasons for my closure is completely bogus. I understand I agreed to their terms and conditions upon opening the account, but that doesn't mean I can't dispute their decision. I called back in and spoke with a friendly rep who transferred me to a supervisor. The supervisor told me it is impossible to reinstate my account, although reading some of the other complaints on BBB it seems they did reinstate other accounts for people.
She gave me the corporate address to which I mailed a letter. I also filed a complaint through the chat system on their website. They sent me an email a few days later with another letter that basically said the same thing as the first one. It was a do not reply email address so I couldn't send a response back. I have made every single payment on time for all 3 accounts that were closed, I had these accounts for years! It's no wonder why these guys have a 1.9 BBB rating. Closing your customers' accounts for bogus reasons is terrible customer service. I will consider my complaint resolved when all 3 of my closed accounts are re-opened. Until then, I will continue mailing letters and filing complaints with customer service.

Unable to see their "non-promotional" purchases on their app/website? Seems this company wants to hide these "non-promotional" purchases, so the consumer doesn't pay them off, allowing them to charge their customers interest on this amount, each month. Apparently, you now have to dig through statements, to see what your "non-promotional" purchases are, instead of simply viewing these charges online/on the app, like it used to be. What a scam!!

I have had several accounts with Synchrony bank, all my experiences have been horrible. They will arbitrarily lower your credit amount or close your account, even if you have been 100% on time, and pay off your account. They claim that TransUnion is reporting that we have too much debt, high balances, and little credit. However the opposite was true with us. We have an 830 FICO Score, our credit report with Trans Union shows we have $100,000 available in revolving available, less than 5% in balances on that credit. They are liars, untrustworthy, the worst bank I have ever worked with in 50 years. DON'T USE THEM!!

Worst financing experience I've ever had. Initial monthly payment they estimated to pay off the balance by the end of the promo period was wrong. Did not realize I had a balance past the promo expiration date since My Synchrony did not send invoices in mail or email. Ended up paying 3 years of high interest on an "interest free" loan. Would never use them again and will actively encourage others to never use them either.

I am in a nightmare experience with Synchrony Bank and have had to enlist the aid of two federal agencies to try and get back the $100,000 they are holding hostage. I have several verified external accounts that transfer money into Synchrony. When $60,000.00 was transferred into Synchrony from one of these verified external accounts last week it didn't show up in my account even though Synchrony had sent me an alert verifying that the money had indeed arrived and the transaction was complete. I finally got the paperwork from the external bank showing the ACH transfer number, date of transfer and amount and gave it to one of the managers. A couple of hours later the money appeared back in my account.
The next problem started when I tried to transfer it out, having zero confidence in a bank that could "lose" sixty-thousand dollars! Wouldn't YOU want to get the money out of there? I initiated two transfers and the very next day received two notices from Synchrony that they were locking down ALL three of my bank accounts. I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to prove my identity with SS numbers, codes sent to my phone, security answers but they will not let me access my money. This happened on a second account there too, but for only $40,000 because they locked down ALL my accounts no matter how many times I proved my identity. Supposedly this is for "my protection." Will someone tell me how the hell it protects me to not let me have access to MY MONEY?
I have filed fraud complaints with the FTC as well as the Office of the Comptroller of Currency which oversees Synchrony. I am sure I am in for a long investigative process and many months of trying to retrieve my money. Sadly, I had recommended this bank many months ago to an elderly neighbor that I care for and they pulled this with the pittance of a Social Security check that she needs to live on, have heat and buy food. They froze her account "for her security" and demanded that she send them a "selfie" with her photo ID before they would unlock her account. She refused. We had to file a fraud complaint against Synchrony (with the Social Security Administration). If this doesn't constitute fraud and elder abuse I don't know what does.
If you've stayed with my story this long then I beg and implore you, DO NOT GET HOOKED UP WITH SYNCHRONY BANK unless you have a lot of money you don't need to access and want to be treated like absolute crap by their so-called customer service agents. And pray that you don't get a manager named JOHN; he was the most arrogant, inefficient and idiotic agent I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. You've been warned. Like another reviewer mentioned--if I could give Synchrony zero, or better yet, negative stars, I would.

The worst deal you can make is to finance something with Synchrony Bank. They are a mafia of scammers with very high interests and too many fine print. And I say mafia because with such a low rating (1.1) and such deplorable service, they are still in the market making deals with recognized companies they are degrading. They do not have a presence in many states where they operate nor clear answers for their wrongdoing. They are the disposable part of the garbage. Do not trust these people.

I have a degree in BBA/Management, and one of the first things I learned in College is that a business relationship is a partnership that works both ways, an equal opportunity for both parties involved! I think whoever is managing Synchrony Bank must either have no degree in business or managing a business, or fell asleep while this was being taught in class, because they seem to think it all works one way, and that is their way! They make all the rules and only they should benefit from the relationship! Well after reading your reviews and further research as well, I am confident it will soon all catch up to you, and you will eventually have no relationships with anyone.
I sadly read over and over how you randomly lower credit limits and close accounts at your discretion, even to those who have a Stellar payment history with you! You lowered my credit limit for the second time now, last time I closed my account with Amazon, now you did it on a new card that I only just used for the first time. I too have a Stellar payment history, and will now be closing all my accounts! You do this to your good customers knowing it will mess with their customers' credit scores! I would rather close all five accounts now, rather than wait for you to play Russian roulette with my credit anytime you feel the need to play god. I am proud of my score, hence why I make sure my bills are paid on time, what’s the sense if you can do whatever it is you feel like doing no matter how responsible I am with paying my bills with you?
Go back to college and please take courses in business relationships before managing another institution as such. I am writing a letter to every Corporate company that you represent! Sams, Care Credit, PayPal, Walgreens, Pandora, etc,. I wonder how many of these customers are even aware that every time you do this, no matter how responsible they were with paying their account with you, that it negatively impacts their credit score every time you lower their credit limit or even sadly close their account.

I underwent a significant ordeal involving this institution. Following this encounter, I reached the conclusion that Synchrony operates on a much lower tier compared to established traditional banks and is not equipped to compete at the same caliber. Regrettably, I made an error by placing a substantial sum of money into their High Yield Savings account. In a matter of months, they made a series of mistakes to the extent that I had to involve the authorities to reclaim my funds. Instances of lost transactions, frozen accounts, and a refusal to deliver services seemed to be commonplace there. I consider myself lucky that I managed to recover the entire initial investment. These individuals are either completely uninformed, engaged in dishonest practices, or possibly both. I strongly advise you to do yourself a favor and steer clear of them.

With a FICO score of greater than 800, it hard to understand how a financial company can cut your credit line in half for no justified reason. This account was set up to purchase music equipment in the future with an 18 month interest free promotional rate, and with no activity, they just elected to cut the credit line in half.

I would never recommend getting a card or any dealings with Synchrony Financial. As a customer of YEARS with 100% on time payment history, they randomly closed my account without any notice or justification as to why. When called to ask, they only repeat a canned response which has no logic or bearing. I believe that this company has discriminatory practices against minorities and should be investigated as to any patterns of who they close accounts on randomly in good standing and the demographics of those individuals. I suspect we may find a class action case.

Like many others I have been struggling to just make minimum payments due to the course of most of my Synchrony accounts going from around an 8%-12% interest to around 32%-38%. I'm not hiding nor avoiding the calls. I'm honest and straightforward and working towards paying of all my account through another company who is negotiating and consolidating those account. I have never been late nor missed a payment prior to my issue. We are talking 20 or so years of perfect payments. Jump to more recent starting 3 days after I missed my payment I started getting harassed...But what is more worrying is the fact that for all the other Synchrony account they have either closed out where I can only make payment..All this has taken place less than a month of me missing my payment..
Almost all store credit and many credit cards go through Synchrony. Missing a payment on one has nothing to do with the other.. Just as if I missed a discover card payment it's not going to cause my Lowe's account to close. BUT since Synchrony has the power it does.. Synchrony has no idea why I missed my payment and truly if under a condition like let's say I missed a payment to a furniture store but depend on my carecredit for a love ones cancer treatment.. This is not my case but again Synchrony doesn't know that.. If it was true I would go all in to suing them...Stop for a moment and think at worse I'm late 20-25 days and given my perfect prior payment they decide to prevent me from using any of my other cards...The Antitrust situation is exactly that they have control of so many financial accounts and do not treat them as separate when it comes to missing a payment..

Synchrony Bank closed my Care Credit MC, Lowe's, Living Spaces and Amazon accounts without notice and for no good reason. One account had been in service for over a decade and had real sentimental value. It was for my first dog and I had been using that card for each subsequent pup in my family. It hurt they closed that account so callously. I had $0 balances for 3 cards and paid off my Amazon card monthly. My only mistake is that I decided to trust such an unsavory financial corporation. Their practices are legal and hidden in their terms and agreement. I will never conduct business with them ever again. It is a shame they are the ones who operate Amazon's credit cards. Hopefully Amazon will rethink their relationship with a bank that cares very little for its customer. You should avoid doing business with Synchrony Bank unless absolutely necessary.

I have signed up for multiple lines of credit over the years through various different entities that have been backed by Synchrony. You'd think there would be some cohesion within Synchrony connecting the personal information I submit every time where they could verify me without doing a hard inquiry on my credit history, but, alas, I have 4 hard inquiries on my credit, and they are ALL from Synchrony for 4 different card accounts/lines of credit I have opened.
You'd think a single company with whom I have done business multiple times over the years would be able to figure out who I am with a simple soft inquiry that doesn't lower my credit score (like every other company has done for all my other cards), but no... SYNCHRONY just has to do the HARD inquiries and screw my credit score. I think by now I have learned to never sign up for anything else with their name attached. I would encourage any and everyone else to do the same, unless you want your credit score to drop.

On February 11, 2022, I ordered two 36x36 frameless bathroom mirrors from LampsPlus.com. The mirrors were delivered on February 17th. They were shipped encased in form-fitting Styrofoam in separate boxes. Opening the first box revealed a shattered mirror. The second one held an intact mirror that had several deep scratches that went unnoticed at that time.
I contacted Lamps Plus immediately about the shattered mirror. I was told I would receive a replacement, that I did not need to return the mirror, and that I would receive an email from them with an address to send an image of the shattered mirror. I received that email the same day and replied with all the information they requested.
By March 14th, after two queries, I had not received the replacement mirror and had heard no more from Lamps Plus. I sent them a third email that day. Again, no reply. I purchased the mirrors through Sam’s Club Plus Member Mastercard which is administered by Synchrony Bank. So, because I was being ignored by Lamps Plus, I contacted them to dispute the transaction.
Synchrony Bank agreed with my position, initially, and credited my account with the $421.82 purchase price of the mirrors. Then it got weird. On June 24th I received a message from Synchrony Bank stating that, based upon “new information”, they were reversing the previously issued credit. The “new information” supplied was a proof of delivery statement showing that FedEx had delivered the mirrors on February 17th. That’s not new information, that’s the date I reported them delivered in damaged condition. Non-delivery was never the issue.
On June 29th I sent a letter to Synchrony Bank. I told them; “before I take further action on this matter, please verify, in writing, with a signature of an actual human with some authority at Synchrony Bank, that you agree with Lamps Plus that delivery is all that matters, that the condition upon delivery is irrelevant.” The letter was sent Certified Mail with a Return Receipt, it was signed by Rolando **.
On July 13th I received a Voicemail to Text message from Synchrony Bank stating; “Hello this is a message from Synchrony Bank for Steven ** [sic] regarding your Sam’s Club Master Card account. We are calling to inform you that we received your correspondence. We appreciate your patience while we review your request and we’ll update you as soon as possible. We can be reached at 866-220-0254. If you have any questions. Thank you. Goodbye.”
I responded with another letter to Synchrony Bank stating: “It is important to understand that I did not make a request, I stated a requirement. Nothing short of the letter described clearly stating your policy that receipt of damaged goods is not grounds for a refund, will suffice. Upon receipt of that letter, I will pay the full amount of the purchase, $421.82. I will not pay any late fees or interest as the delay is solely your fault. Further communications on this matter other than that letter must be via an email that is monitored.”
That is where we stood for about six months. My account balance was the sum of the $421.82 purchase price plus six months of late fees and interest. Clearly, Synchrony Bank wanted to be paid, but nobody there was willing to put their name on the letter required to obtain it. I related my experience on several consumer complaint sites. One of them contacted Lamps Plus about it, and Lamps Plus then contacted me. After some back and forth, they reversed their position. They decided that the condition of the merchandise at the time of delivery did matter, that a full refund was in order. The refund appeared on my credit card statement on January 18th.
Now it gets weirder still. It seems Synchrony Bank did not agree with Lamps Plus reversal. They still demand payment of all late fees and interest generated by a purchase that was eventually refunded. The account balance now stands at $344.31; I will not pay it. The account has been closed, credit cards destroyed, and I am no longer a Sam’s Club customer.

I have 2 accounts through Synchrony Bank, one for Lowe's and the other one for CareCredit. I recently opened up my ENT account to get some of my debt taken care of, so I wasn't familiar with how the account number was supposed to go in, so me not knowing I put the last 2 digits of the account number at the end, I had no idea that this would become an issue. I had submitted a payment on May 4th for my Lowe's payment, logged back in there on May 5th. Saw that there was a balance still due, so I submitted another payment. Logged back in there on the 10th. Saw that there was a $77 balance so I paid it. I had no idea that the payments had gotten rejected until I logged in a couple days later to make sure that they posted. I didn't receive any notification, email, phone call, or anything stating that my payments had been rejected.
Same thing happened with my CareCredit account. I made a payment on May 10th for the full balance, once again I didn't receive any notification that my payment had gotten rejected due to them not being able to find the account, I found out once I logged in on the 15th, I saw that the payment was rejected, I immediately resubmitted payment with the correct account information for my ENT account and the payment was processed on the 15th for the full balance. I immediately fixed and resubmitted payments for the full balances and my accounts are still both closed. This is not fair in any way shape or form and I wish that Lowe's or any company for that matter DID NOT use Synchrony Bank as their go to because they quite frankly suck to say it in the nicest way possible.

I opened multiple CDs with Synchrony bank this year because of attractive APYs it offered. I have CDs with Synchrony for many years before with no problem of closing when CDs matured and transferring funds to my external account. However, when my oldest CD was matured on 5/7/2023, I called the bank to close it and transfer the fund out since my CDs accounts were over the FDIC insured limit. The call center agent told me it would take 5-6 days to close the account and 3 more days to ACH the fund out. I thought he was bluffing about 5-6 days to close the account so I just let it go. 2 days later, I called again and another agent told me the same thing. My account was not closed yet.
On May 10th, I sent a secure message online and demanded an answer from the bank manager why it took so long to close the account. The answer I received was the account was closed immediately, and the fund would be transferred out in the next few days. Today May 11th, I checked again, and the account was still not closed. The CD term on Synchrony website states no interest will be accrued when CD is closing during grace period. During this time of high interest rates, Synchrony is trying to hold on to my money for free. Shame on this shady business practice. After doing that on every single credit card synchrony Didn’t even send me an email. I went to use my cards and they all got declined. Called synchrony and they lowered my credit limit. One card 7800 to 280, second card $9000 to 230 and third card $10,000 to 3250 which Only reason they lowered it to that was because I had a that as a balance for a 0% for 12 months offer.
When I called to ask what happened they told me due to my credit report, not having a real estate account which my house is paid for and multiple inquiries. They classify me as a high risk even though I’ve been with them for years none of my payments are late and my credit score is in the upper 700s. Charged a late fee despite payment being well ahead of due date. I opened my account on October 31, 2022 at Rooms To Go. Per the account, payments are due the 27th of every month. I made my initial payment of $500 on November 10, 2022. I then made another payment of $800 on December 12, 2022, $800 on January 6, 2023, and another payment of $800 on February 3, 2023.
On February 28th I received an email reminder to make my February payment which I thought was odd since I had already paid the bill earlier in the month. I made my payment ahead of schedule (again). I logged into my account to find that I had a $30 late fee. I called Synchrony’s Customer Service line and confirmed my payments are due by the 27th of every month. HOWEVER, payments prior to the 4th of the month is considered an “early payment” and that a payment is still due by the 27th. The gentleman was kind enough to reverse the fee and assured me this wouldn’t hit my credit report.
I appreciate the service I received and quick resolution. However, I wanted to report the concern as I feel this is predatory practice by a Synchrony Bank. If the statement date is the 27th of each month, and a customer makes a payment in advance to that date, then it should be viewed as an on-time payment and therefore shouldn’t be assessed a fee. I plan on paying off my remaining balance in March, but would not recommend Synchrony Bank to anyone. And it appears they have a history of assessing late fees to its customer even when it’s not warranted.

BEWARE OF SYNCHRONY BANK. On January 20, I invested $100,000 at 4.6% interest with Synchrony. This transaction was verified with my bank. The agent told me the transaction was complete. Weeks later I received a letter dated Feb. 3 that indicated I had to complete the process. On Feb. 14, I spoke with Renita. She told me that Synchrony was in error since the transaction had been verified. She asked if I still wanted the investment. I told her yes, if it would be backdated to 1/20. I told her I would also increase the amount to $200,000. She said she would call me personally within three days to confirm. She did not. Instead, I received an email stating that the money had been withdrawn from my bank and invested in Synchrony.
On 2/21 I spent about 70 minutes either speaking with an agent that could or would do nothing, and then on hold for a so-called supervisor. Finally, an agent told me that Renita had to return my call in 3 days. I told her it had been 7 days, She used all kinds of excuses explaining how 7 days does not equal three business days. She said Renita was still waiting for an answer before calling me. Of course, I never heard from her or anyone else from Synchrony again. Then she tells me that the investment was denied.
What kind of a company makes a mistake on an investment, and instead of correcting their errors and apologizing, they just cancel the entire transaction? I have never received an email or letter indicating my $200,000 had been transferred or cancelled from my bank. Synchrony has not allowed me to speak with a senior official, despite my repeated requests.

I guess it became a trend nowadays to get outsource reps with 0 (zero knowledge) and let them run your financial company… what a joke. Synchrony support not only useless but also provide false information and confusing customers even more. When it comes to disputes unlike normal banks like AMEX or Chase, this guys will not fight for you, they simply don’t care:
2. They will not request a proof of transaction from merchant (not sure why).
3. They provide false and incorrect information, basically a polite way to say (** off, go talk to someone else).
4. They will give attitude during the call (like you talking to crazy ex).5. They refuse to set up a supervisor call back (which is a must have function to ALL financial companies). In another words, if you have an unauthorized transaction - you would have to deal with it on your own. I have never experienced anything like that from any credit card company for the past 20 years. So far - this is the worst bank to deal with after Citi.

Hi. I have been an Amazon Card customer since it was first offered, and use to think Synchrony was great. Not any longer. I - Bought an iPad on Nov 3. Returned it on 1/13 (received by Amazon on 1/18). Found out refund would be after the accounting period so called Synchrony so I wouldn’t accrue interest, have a past due payment, or a late fee. Was told that I should dispute the amount so the above would not occur. Now told it can be up to 90 days for refund. Customer Service says that Amazon says they don’t have the product. Contacted UPS and provided Synchrony customer service with proof of delivery. Contacted Amazon and provided the transaction number where funds were returned to Synchrony on 1/30.
As of 2/21 I have talked or chatted with at least a dozen different people. They acknowledge that I did their job by getting the evidence. They acknowledge that it was wrong to advise me to dispute the charge. They then just quote policy as to why no one will directly contact Amazon, since clearly the process has broken in the case, no will anyone take responsibility to follow up with me. I receive automated phone calls that don’t say anything. I am furious. I am absolutely dumbfounded that no one will accept responsibility or follow up. Also, I replaced the iPad at a competitor and have purchased at least $1500 in other items from competitors since this hasn’t been addressed. I have told Synchrony's customer service that, and they do not care that business is being lost.

So, I found out on Friday that my account with Care Credit had been closed with no notification from Synchrony Bank via email, text, call or mail. I didn't understand why and called them on today. Synchrony Bank closed my account in June 2022 that I had with them for over three years, with no late payments ever, no payments due ever, and nothing owed to them at this time based on a credit report that was received by them from Transunion. I asked the representative why did Synchrony Bank pull a credit report on me after having been with them for over three years, the representative stated to me that Synchrony Bank automatically receives these reports every month from the credit bureaus and based on what Transunion stated they denied me credit and closed an account that had been open and in good standing with them for over three years,.
Did you Synchrony Bank forget that everyone is suffering from the fallout of Covid 19 and still recovering and I am still trying to find out how they received a credit report when my account has a fraud alert on it from the breech of a certain credit reporting agency and had a freeze on it? Neither Synchrony Bank nor Transunion had permission to access my account without calling me (Transunion and asking my permission if my credit report could be accessed by any company), so one of these companies also broke the law, that is criminal.
I also stated to the representative why I didn't receive notice of this decision via mail, phone, email or text from Synchrony Bank, the young lady stated one was sent out, I stated to her no, I never received any type of notification from Synchrony Bank stating my account had been closed, the representative stated to me that she would email me one today, I stated to her, no, I didn't want it, it was too late for that now, I already knew. I want to say to you Synchrony Bank, what you did was criminal, dirty, underhanded and sneaky, if this is the way you treat loyal customers after over three years I want to warn and let anyone and everyone know that based on your character and treatment towards me you are not worthy to be in business, your account is closed.

I purchased a 15 month CD from Synchrony based on them having a competitive rate. I regret ever doing this with them and the comparison between them and Ally Bank is significant. Ally Bank has experienced trained customer services reps, Synchrony does not. One person was down right rude and argumentative. Ally Bank has a 60-90 day penalty for early withdrawals, Synchrony has you keep it in place for the whole term and if you pull it out, they take every interest penny you've earned up to that point. Ally sends you a 1099 at the completion of your CD term and you pay taxes at that point, Synchrony reports the 1099 during the term of the CD, even if you never received an interest payment. I have been with Ally for many years and the only reason I opened a CD with Synchrony was due to the .2% better rate they had and now I regret it. This was a one shot deal and I wouldn't give them my business again.

Hello All, I use to think Care Credit/Synchrony Bank was one of the best credit card companies out there. I am writing to let everyone know how incompetent, unprofessional, rude, and outright disrespectful this company is. Since Aug of last year (2022). I have been put on hold for excessively extended periods of countless times w/o being checked on. I have been hung up on, given incorrect information, been harassed by collections and you name it, by Care Credit.
I have been going back and forth with Care Credit on the same issue that is still not resolved to this day (Feb 1, 2023). Aug of 2022 I was upgraded to the Care Credit MasterCard, which was an awesome way to show their appreciation for my being a good and loyal customer. They automatically closed the old card and sent me the new card. They did a balance transfer from the old card onto the new card, and I thought everything was fine.
A couple of months later, I started getting collection calls, so I called the customer service (or lack thereof) number. I attempted to find out why that closed card was showing a debt. For 5 months now I have been told that I made a purchase on the old card and I know for a fact I did NOT! They could never tell me the name of the merchant or any detail of the purchase other than the amount. I have talked to countless reps and managers, having to explain the whole ordeal to each person with multiple transfers for 5 months now.
I have put in several dispute claims. When I would call to follow up with the claim, it was never put in, time and time again. I have recently come to find out that it wasn't a purchase that was made, but a mistake made by one of the incompetent CSRs. This issue has still not been resolved and I am told it will take up to 30 more days for them to respond.
This is absolutely unacceptable and no one seems to care about resolving my issue. One of which could have been resolved or not even happened 5 months ago, if they had competent workers. No one has contacted me to apologize or follow up to let me know what is going on with my case. No one has addressed my many complaints about the multiple reps and managers that I have had to endure for 5 months. They should really be ashamed of themselves!

This bank has really shady practices. I had an Amazon store card for years and I had to cancel this store card because it was through Synchrony. I had a fraudulent charge on one card. They close the card and opened a new one. Meanwhile they took a payment agreement I had with Amazon to pay over 6 months and put it all on one month. I could not log into my account until I received the new card. I always pay the balance in full every month. But by the time I got the new card and could see what was going on the account they had charged in full the payment agreement and charged me almost $30 in interest fees. While trying to close the account the synchrony rep said I owed over $1,300 even though I had just paid $900 on the account.
I closed the synchrony account and then could no longer log in to see what I needed to finish paying. If you call them you will have to jump like a circus Pony through hoops in order to talk to someone and you may or may not get someone who understands what you are saying. Stay far away from this Bank. Hopefully they will go out of business. They should because they are very shady.

Why am I still with them? Simple. You can't get ahold of anyone. And I have an IRA with Synchrony and transfers need to be done correctly and I don't trust them. Let's face it, all online banks are different with different rates of interest. The big banks are all the same. My point is, that the real difference between banks is customer service and here's where Synchrony Financial fails miserably. This time when I paid the second payment, I found that I was one day late.
I went online to pay and set up an auto-pay. The website didn’t have any response when I entered the payment, so I enter another twice. I found out that they charge me 3 payments. I set up an auto-pay at that day. That was a big mistake. I set an auto pay thinking that must be on the due day. Auto Pay is a service that automatically schedules and deducts monthly payments from your bank account on your due date. Is that right?
Their website is a non-user friendly. That’s a very very poor website! I never received a confirmation that the payment was processed so I checked back the next day to see if anything was showing pending. There still was nothing showing. I waited one more day and still nothing. So I submitted another online payment for $506. This time I received a confirmation and I saw the next day where it showed pending. The next day I see I have a credit of $506 because now they have found the other payment also. I didn’t owe anything except $506 which I paid off, but instead of not applying the payment Synchrony kept it. I contacted their office on November 28 and was informed they could not reverse the payment because I had paid it from my checking account, the only way you would pay a credit card. That said they would issue a check and it could take anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks for me to receive.
I asked why they would accept the payment when there was no balance owed and they said because I submitted it. I have never heard of a credit card company doing something like that. And what they told me was I could just go ahead and use the credit balance on my cards to make any purchases I wanted, I told him no I wanted my money back. So they said they would issue the check. I waited, called a few days later to make sure to check had been issued and I was told it had. 10 days later I still haven’t received anything so I called again, this time the representative told me well you should know better than to make it up for payment. It’s not our problem when you’re not smart enough. I didn’t even know how to reply to that, except telling him I never received a confirmation, and I never saw it as pending until they took both payments.
He said, "Well the check has been issued. You should be getting it shortly." To which I asked what does shortly mean. Within the next 10 days or so. This is now December 16 and I still haven’t received my check. So I called again, this time I was told that accidentally the check was not issued but that this time it would be. I asked so now how long will it be well at least another 7 to 14 business days. I said, "You guys told me three times this check was issued, now I’m being told on the fourth time that it wasn’t and you’re going to issue it but it’ll be another 7 to 14 business days before I receive it." Is Synchrony Bank a partner with Pep Boys in scamming customers? In May 2022, I experienced the 3rd or 4th time issues with my OEM battery on my 2017 auto not charging/starting. I therefore, after taking my daughter to work, stopped by Pep Boys to have the charging system, etc checked. At that time they stated that the system was fine but the battery was only showing a 40% life. Since the battery was so old I went ahead and purchased a new one.
A month later, I was experiencing the same issue, unable to start the auto. I once again dropped my daughter off at work, then stopped at Pep Boys to once again have the system checked. All a-ok I’m told, however, there is a corroded part that prevents the system from charging/starting properly. Ok order the part and let me know when it is in for installation. Told to come in the next day, I show up and part is not in. Come back tomorrow I’m told. That happened 3 times and after the 3rd time I told Pep Boys to cancel the order, they argued but I said cancel. That was the last time I spoke to anyone at Pep Boys, about mid-July.
That day in the mail I received a bill from Synchrony Bank, showing a $214 charge and a 2nd $214 charge, neither had any description. I called the bank and they opened a fraud check on the account. I also, after an argument with the bank had the account closed, they at first stated that they could not close the account, thus the argument. A couple of weeks later the bank sent an online letter stating that the charges were applied in error prior to the purchase completion. So I thought ok that’s it.
Then in September 2022, I received another statement showing both charges as well as late fee charges. Once again I contacted the bank, once again the bank stated they would look into the issue. No letters from the bank, only silence. However, I am now in late November been subject to 2, 3, 5 phone calls per day for weeks from the bank demanding payment. So I wonder if Pep Boys and Synchrony Bank are partners in ripping off customers. That is especially since, in July, I checked the battery and noted that the connections on the supposed corroded part were very loose. I tighten down and have had ZERO charging/starting issues. Leads me to wonder if there was any issue even as far back as May other than loose connections.

If you get scammed by a vendor using your Synchrony credit card and then dispute the charge, even if you have overwhelming evidence to prove your claim, Synchrony by default rejects your claim. They will cite whatever excuse just to deny the claim. Today they cited the excuse as "amount charged to your account matches the amount that is listed on the purchase receipt." THERE WAS NO PURCHASE RECEIPT! And I have evidence proving I was overcharged and scammed. They do not have an email address you can write to so you have to send everything to them by postal mail or fax (probably because they know no one uses fax anymore). You call and they reopen the dispute just to deny it again.
My parents were scammed by a moving company almost two years ago and paid with a Synchrony bank credit card. We have submitted overwhelming evidence of the scam, and even found actual news articles of the moving company scamming countless victims that we submitted to Synchrony. Now with their denial of my less than $200 claim with a default nonsensical denial, this is looking more like a potential class action lawsuit. We will see if that is a viable option.

It's amazing, we then filed a complaint with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), AND within a couple days the same manager was able to make a phone call to us. Then the Office of the President was able to email us a response also in a few days. What a lie and scam their system is setup to be intentionally. If you have a problem that they are wrong, don't waste hours on the phone like we did. Contact the CFPB. Nothing else we could do made them take action. Terrible, terrible company. It's unfortunate because we received excellent service from C&B. It makes me sad that we won't use C&B anymore since they work with this company.

I applied for a Lowe's card as a homeowner who performs several do-it-yourself tasks and home maintenance. My credit limit was initially $3,500. At the time, I was unaware that Synchrony Bank issued the card. They abruptly lowered my credit limit from $3,500 to about $300, which was my balance at the time, without warning and for inexplicable reasons. Obviously, my credit utilization with them rose. Remember that I have never missed a payment, been late with a payment, or exceeded my credit limit. The same thing was done on my JCPenney credit account, they also issue. My wife had a CareCredit account she never had a chance to use. Synchrony unilaterally closed down the account without a reason given.
My buddy informed me that they would assess your credit risk by reviewing your credit history to determine how you have performed with other lenders. Your relationship and history with them have no relevance to how you are treated. This is by far the worst card company I've ever dealt with. Despite my admiration for Lowe's, I can no longer shop there because of my unpleasant Synchrony experience. Please avoid using any Synchrony Bank-issued credit cards at all costs. It boggles my mind that the CFPB has not yet fined them. A fresh rating is required for a business such as Synchrony Bank. They do not merit even one star.

I took the deal at Discount Tires to open a credit account with 6 months no interest. The trick is that they want to do everything online, but only once in two months has the website actually been working. I've had to call to get info on my account and payments. Reading other reviews, I'm very glad I've opted to send payments by check and postal mail, rather than auto debit. I call them every month before the payment due date, to make sure they received the payment, and will pay off the balance when the introductory period is up. It would seem that I will earn the money I saved on interest, and these folks are as trustworthy as a cat on a kitchen counter with an open can of tuna.

Those who advise steering clear of these guys will certainly get no arguments from me. I'm unfortunate enough to have two accounts with these jokers and CareCredit has been nothing short of a nightmare. I had three, but as many have noted, it was closed without any warning whatsoever. I had a charge I did not authorize transpire, which I didn't contest since I knew who and what it was for, however, I modified my payment for more two days before the payment was automatically set to be made. I got the confirmation email that the payment was set to be made like normal on the due date. I've had no trouble with payments in two years since my account number was changed, so I was bewildered when I saw I'd missed a call from Synchrony 4 days after the payment was made.
I returned the call to find out the payment had not been made, but had to go in circles with an automated voice to get to a live rep, obviously overseas. I told her that I'd set that payment for more two days before it was due and had gotten a confirmation email that it was going to be made. The rep said it had been made, but it was returned because the account was CLOSED, and they were still waiting? She gave me the last four digits of the account number that it had been made from and it was from the OLD, CLOSED NUMBER.
They'd taken the luxury of hitting me with a late fee, which I grumbled about enough to get it reversed because of their mistake. I ended up using my debit card for the payment 4 days after it was supposed to be made before I got on the site to see what was going on. I know for a fact that I had that old number entirely removed from my account when I got the new one, and it's the only one they have on file according to their website. I saw nothing online where the old number was even listed for either account, but how that got charged is beside me. I seriously wonder if they didn't purposely screw me over for some odd reason. I've never felt comfortable with Synchrony and I guess I have a good reason not to. Outrageous interest rates, closing accounts in good standings without warning, lousy customer service, and shady business tactics convince me of that.

Stay Away From ALL Forms Of Credit With Synchrony Bank... you will regret not listening to me, I promise you! I have the EXACT same problem with Synchrony Bank as everyone else who files complaints about them! I have multiple credit cards through Synchrony, and they ALWAYS start me out with medium to high CL's, just to take away my available credit and lower my limits over the course of me paying down my balances. They do this to EVERYONE, and have done this to me on 100% of EVERY card that I have with them!
The difference however, is that my card balances on my other cards from other banks are actually going down, not up, because I am paying off all my CC balances, (but keeping the accounts open). Like most Americans, I have been in credit card debt for a few years, and about a year ago I decided to stop buying things and just pay down my balances. As a result, my other credit cards such as Best Buy, Amazon, Discover, Capital One, and Home Depot cards have ALL given me CL increases over the last 6 months, thus causing my Credit Score to actually go up nearly 33 points, and my available credit to increase an additional $3,500 in total than what it was a year ago. (un-utilized).
However, when it came time for my semi-yearly review by Synchrony bank, they closed my Walmart card entirely, closed my Dicks Sporting Goods card entirely, they closed my Venus card entirely, Lowered the CL on my Summit Racing Card by a whopping $1,700 lower than the opening balance, they lowered the CL on my Newegg card by $1,200 lower than the opening balance, they lowered my Synchrony Care Care CL by $400 lower, they lowered my Synchrony Health Care CL by $700 lower... So all in all, they have either closed or lowered my CL on 100% of EVERY card that I have with them!
This has resulted in closed Synchrony accounts valued at nearly $5,000 alone, and another loss of credit in the amount of $4,000 from the lowering of limits they have penalized me with. As a result, my credit score has dropped more than 40 freaking points because of Synchrony Bank, and I am sure because of that, I will likely be at risk of losing my good standing with other creditors and them penalizing me too if I don't get my CS back up by the next semi-annual check.
Mind you, I have an absolutely PERFECT credit history with a 100% ALWAYS ON TIME payment record, and I have ALWAYS paid more than the minimum balance. I have NEVER missed ANY payment, EVER, not even on a car loan, a utility payment, a house payment, or even a landscaping payment. When I tell you that I have an absolutely PERFECT credit payment history, I am not exaggerating!
So while every other creditor that I have has increased my available credit lines, and even sent me both pre-approved AND pre-authorized loan offers, (which essentially guarantees loan approval), Synchrony bank is literally the ONLY creditor that I have which is punishing me by stripping my available credit from me and taking cards away from me!
Therefore I have made it a vow that I will NEVER apply for another Synchrony-owned credit card ever again for as long as I live, and I will go further so as to teach my children to also stay far away from doing business with Synchrony. I do not care if that means that I have to stop purchasing at all of my favorite stores entirely. I don't even care if that means that I can't finance a kidney transplant, I will NEVER engage in business with Synchrony Bank EVER again!
TRUST me when I say, STAY AWAY FROM SYNCHRONY BANK CREDIT CARDS & LOANS! As SOON AS you pay down your balance, they are GUARANTEED to lower your available credit limit down to a limit that is just below the available credit left after you submit your payment. You are NOT doing yourself ANY favorsby paying off your balances with Synchrony, they absolutely WILL punish you. I Promise! You have been warned.

She then said she would put in a complaint to fix the issue and update the system, however it would take 1-2 billing cycles to fix.
I advised her that was unacceptable as I was in the middle of refinancing my home. She told me there was nothing they could do about it. I asked to speak to a manager. She then transferred me to “Jay” who immediately came on the line rude and uninterested in my issue. He immediately began ranting about what Shatima had already told me and said there was nothing he could do. He interrupted me each time I tried to speak. I also advised him that waiting 1-2 months to update my credit report was unacceptable as I was in the process of refinancing my home. He again said there was nothing he could do but to put my request in the system. I then asked him “how is it that your company can make a mistake and it affect me and not you.” He seemed irritated that he even had to take my call.
I would like my credit report updated IMMEDIATELY and any fees removed from my account. They should not be allowed to treat customers this way. I was with Synchrony Bank for many years. Had 100% on time lower than 30% usage. They canceled all of my accounts for no reason out of nowhere and tripled my minimum payments. I had well over $100,000 of credit between the eight accounts with only about 27000 used. They decided for no reason to shut everything down and then tripled my payments. I almost can’t make the minimum payments and I have zero options. When I call to try to reduce payments they give me the runaround and hang up on me. I was told that if I try to file bankruptcy or use a consolidation program they would sue me. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Stay as far away from these unethical loan sharks as you can.

I was asked if it was okay to run my credit, to which I answered that I would like to place my application on hold until I consulted with my home loan officer. I specifically asked to place my application on hold until I called back to continue the process for the Synchrony Health Services Credit Account. An hour later I receive an email notification that they made a hard inquiry on my credit. Safe to say I will not be using Synchrony in the future and I would caution anyone against using Synchrony unless you like dealing with a shady company who will run your credit and make a hard inquiry WITHOUT PERMISSION.

Synchrony Bank closed multiple trade/credit card accounts of mine without cause. My credit score is in the mid-700’s, never missed a payment. In fact, paid off all balances early, causing Synchrony to be unable to charge deferred interest or fees. They’ve closed my Ashley Home, Mattress Warehouse, Haverty’s Furniture and Lowe’s accounts. Appreciate the use of their money at no cost to me. Luckily, BP Gas has changed their credit issuer. Otherwise, I’d be cancelling that card, too. Stay away from Synchrony if at all possible!!!

There were 6 old phone numbers in the drop-down box. But the phone number I just added to my account 2 weeks earlier was not listed. So I couldn't login to my account.
This has happened to me in the past. The Synchrony agent said my new phone hasn't been verified yet. What? Every other bank and credit card company let me change my phone number online and I could use it to login immediately. Not Synchrony. The agent said my new phone would be added in 2 months. Really? I can't access my account for 2 months? To make matters worse, the agent rudely talked over me several times. Account closed. Don't risk getting locked out of your account for 2 months just because you change your phone number.

All the comments I read so far on this site seem so unfair to the users. Synchrony Bank is one messed up bank. They will provide mostly low limit cards, and then screw with you when you use it, or never use it. With that said I just became a new Verizon customer, and opted for the Synchrony Verizon Visa, targeted to customers only. My God, it is beautiful, solid heavy Black Metal, FedEx brings it to you, you are supposed to follow the Video link on how to unbox this incredible offering. Plus they had no problem with a $6000 limit, most of my Synchrony cards are under $1000. Did I mention the Verizon Visa offers 4% off Gas, and 4% off of Groceries and Restaurants including Fast Food. Plus 2% off your Verizon bill, and 1% off everything else. Also a $100 bonus paid over 24 months. But for some reason, they decided to cut my limit to less than half of what I've had for 4 years. I called and there's nothing they can do. I was in contact with them more than 10 times to resolve this issue. Rather than resolve it, they reported me to the credit bureau for not paying for an item that I never had possession of, negatively impacting my credit score.
When I called Synchrony about this, they admitted over the phone that I had done nothing wrong, yet when I opened a dispute with Experian over the negative impact on my credit score, Synchrony denied that they were wrong. First- do not do business with Synchrony. Second- you do not get a customer service representative that has a very good understanding of the English language, then when you ask to speak to a supervisor, they put you on hold forever and you end up hanging up. Trying to explain a problem does not work to your benefit either in written or verbal format. We had a problem with a payment we made early when we were going out of town for an extended period (Shame on me. No good deed goes unpunished.). Synchrony failed to credit the payment as one of our regular monthly payments, I guess they thought we were just sending them money for the fun of it. Then they charged us a late fee and interest. Discussed with a representative (obviously did not understand what I was talking about) because they gave us a credit.
Then later, we get a letter from the company. Still charged us interest and a late fee after they did their research on the payment/credit conveniently identified as they gave us credit twice (the early payment and customer service credit). It was not because we asked for the credit, the customer rep did it on their own because they did not understand the English language. Then we wrote a second letter with a breakdown of the monthly payments and check clearing dates in a nice table format for anyone to understand, all were on time and earlier than due date. The company responded and agreed with this letter, they were so generous to refund the late charge in the “interest of good customer relations.” However, they never removed the interest charges.
We are now into our third letter after 6 months and still have not received the interest charges back as a credit. Still have not heard back on the third letter yet it was sent in early January. However, if it takes a fourth letter, I’m going to write it and more until they give me the credit for falsely charging me interest (I wonder if they can legally do this). Make sure you review your statements monthly whether you have an electronic account or hardcopy. Do not let them bamboozle you, keep accurate records of your payments and don’t give up. Finally- Their customer service is horrible!

This system gives no warning and can cause your account to be over the limit and they do not care. I have noticed many that say they are managing their account correctly, but the practices of Synchrony cause their account to appear as if they are not. Why would a financial institution want to purposely damage a customer's credit? Bad business practice.
I personally am going to pay my accounts off and not use them. I have other bank cards and will stick to them and raise my credit lines to accommodate my life. Please avoid Synchrony at all costs. I was told that I will receive an "override" by mail, but the month passed and I did not receive any. Today I was told the same and also that the bank can only send letters twice a week due to Covid !!! And that many customers have the same issue because most of the cell phones are not in Public Records. Bank has my recent cell phone number which they wanted while opening my CD over that very phone. But they cannot add it to their records once they got my money. That system is archaic and user-unfriendly.
I requested the cancellation of my CD and will be charged a PENALTY for early closing in the amount of 6 months' interest! I cannot work with this bank, they are not helping me with it, and when I want to terminate that "relationship" because of their system they penalize ME instead of apologizing and trying to keep the customer, whose money they took after several minutes phone conversation.
The unbelievable archaic system, unbelievable, that I am penalized for their inability to let me access online. Anyway, I decided to pay the penalty and get out of that bank. Had a Lowe's credit card and Care Credit Card both issued by Synchrony bank. Just out of the blue one day they cancel my cards (they said my credit score went down and they have a right to do this). This was after I used it at the dentist. On the Care Credit Card I used at my dentist I needed emergency dental work. 3 Teeth were cracked and front 2 were broken off. Dentist charged the card for the whole amount of $3600 in March 2021 and stated with care credit we have them pay the full amount upfront. I was told before leaving that The (my) dentist had retired I thought he was off that day. And was told it would be billed to the dentist that helped me get things in place, to put 3 crowns on my teeth the next visit. They never called me to tell me my new crowns were ready. I called them 1x a week for I believe 4 months nothing.
In the meantime another Covid-19 outbreak, my husband passed away and then my sister which threw me to left field. I finally got a call back mid January 2022 stating the practice was sold and patients went along with the new business practice. I said, "Hey they took molds of my teeth and I was to come in to get them placed." Them: "Oh we're not going to be open for business until later Feb 2022 - April 2022 and it will be under new owner management."
In the meantime I'm making payments on the care credit card and they are charging me because they canceled my credit with them synchrony and I been paying a $44 a month late fee, a not paid in full promotion offer of I believe it was 60 months. Then I start getting over the limit charges, late fees and a humongous interest rate to boot. Plus they hit my credit report! I've contacted customer service and have them a verbal dispute. Nothing updated that was in Jan 2022. They need to cancel the $3600 dentist charge and have the previous dentist reimburse synchrony back. NOT ME I didn't get a medical service from them!
They should (synchrony bank care credit) pay me back by reimbursing what I've paid to them and their late fees, over limit whatever fees and bad credit report and give me all my payments back regarding this $3600 purchase I never received! I now have a huge hit from them on my credit report. I didn't receive any notice from the dentist office and this is just insane! I will not pay $3600 to you for something I never got fixed!? I want Reimbursed for every payment I made already, PLUS THEIR TACK ON FEES! I CAN'T EVEN LOG INTO MY ACCOUNT TO CONTACT THEM AT THEY SUGGEST. To top it off this WAS emergency dental work. Took my credit card charged it and didn't do nothing! They didn't even send me a patient any news on what was going on!

I believe they are now sending to collections! Please help! I'm a disabled widow and this is clearly fraud and extortion on a disabled widow. Synchrony Bank is not a very good lender to do business with. They close accounts and reduce credit limits without notice or reason. I have two cards with them. One paid off with a zero balance and the other with a balance. I was paying my bill early and they would still charged me a late fee even though the payment was made before my due date so every payment that would have lowered my balance they would add a late fee in the same amount as my payment. Then they lowered my credit limit. My JCPenney card has been paid off for months and I stopped using it because of what they was doing with my payments so they closed my account and tried to say I was late 5 times on my payments when the payments actually was made on or before the due date.
We got sick with Covid and my job shut down for a few months because of Covid at the end of 2021. I'm a traveling nurse so I called and ask did they have a Covid hardship program available to stay current. They said no. I asked if I could make a smaller payment on my account. They said no. If I did I would still get a later fee. They are not willing to work with their customers and are violating our consumer rights. When I didn't make the payment they wanted they lowered my credit limit again. I had 583.00 still available to use on a 2000.00 dollar limit. I had 1476.95 charged for medical reasons. They lowered my balance to 1530.00 which implies I have used most of my credit limit so it dropped my credit score again because they reported that to the credit bureaus which is false.
I offered to pay a smaller amount on my payments until I got caught back up. They declined. Before January I had never been late on this account yet they were giving me late fees for payment made the day before or on my due date. I thought Synchrony was a good lender to do business with and they are not so beware before opening a credit line with them. They have caused my good credit to decrease because of the things they did unfairly to me and my accounts.

I had my card paid halfway down and was planning to use it on another expensive dental procedure, when they decided to reduce my limit without so much as a warning.
Why bother offering a credit account for health related things, and then have such strict credit regulations that you have to take it right back? They also said my credit score was 100 points less than it was. I checked my credit immediately after receiving the letter. which means they had to have waited several month after reviewing my credit to reduce my limit. I'm still not fully understanding. I was going to use the money to help pay for my medical trip this week.
My wife was a federal agent with the DOD so I am well aware how important security is, but this was literally vindictive since I questioned the whole self video thing??? I might add, that woman told me that I would have to do this every month if I wanted my interest. I hope others are treated better than I was. They use to be a good bank and as an investor I use to do a lot of business with them. Thanks for reading.

I had 6 CDs laddered with Synchrony. They automatically renewed one for 5 years without my approval. I did not receive a notice that it was maturing, and after 5 years, it's easy to forget. Every other bank I deal with sends a notice a month in advance. The cost of closing it 2 days after the grace period was over $400. Needless to say, I've closed every other account as they mature. I would have renewed it for 12 months, but not 5 years at the current rates. As I've closed the other accounts I had to do it by phone, and it took at least 10-15 minutes, mostly on hold. I would never do business with them again. Customer service is not in their vocabulary.

I had a good credit score til they started this and I have taken a hit because of them. No notice they just started closing. Trust me do not finance anything thru this company. Synchrony Bank without notice closed my ABC account on 12/5/21. The account has been active since 2008 with an excellent history. With the recent Pandemic I have not used the card regularly over the last two years; however, was planning to use in the next month. I called on Synchrony Bank on 12/28 when reviewing my credit wise and credit karma accounts, since my available credit decreased. I have three accounts with Synchrony Bank, ABC, Lowe's, Discount Tire. All have exceptional history. They did the same thing with my Discount Tire account, and I reopened the line.
This causes me additional inquires and lost history, which both are a detriment to my credit history. I received no written or verbal notice of the intention, required action, which is bad business. I asked for the account to be reopened since I was within 30 days of noticing. The representative stated that I would need to reapply. I asked to speak with a supervisor, after 30 minutes of hold time I decided to proceed with this complaint.

There was never any clear communication or paperwork to show what the monthly (interest free) installments would be. In order not to miss a payment I established an online account and set up auto pay.
I accidentally paid the full amount and have been on the phone at least 10 times to try and recover the overpayment. I have spent countless hours on hold to only be flat out lied to each time - even by customer service managers. Each time I was told that a check was issued and should be received within 10-15 days. I used the Amazon Synchrony card for over a year, no issues. I got the reward points promised to me and never connected with their customer service. All was good. Until my bank (BBVA) got bought out by PNC Bank. When the merger happened, it caused an issue of a payment being returned, not to do with non-sufficient funds. As soon as we found this, we paid the balance through another bank to a zero balance. They closed my account due to the returned payment. They closed the account with a zero balance. They also closed the account with THOUSANDS of dollars in reward points to use on Amazon.
After hours on the phone, customer service (3 different managers) assured me they could get it resolved with a letter from my banking institution showing how the merger caused the situation, and through no fault of my own. We faxed and emailed the letter from PNC's letterhead taking responsibility, but they refuse to refund the points. Of course, there's no getting on the phone with their "Internal Inquiry specialists" and their frontline managers have no power to make any changes and just say how sorry they are that I'm in the situation. You should never open an account with this bank. You will have nightmares when it comes to payments. They will process a payment and never update your account balance. Then when you go check, you will be under the impression that since the payment has been processed and withdrawn from your account, you actually still owe the balance that is shown. Needless to say, you have now overpaid your account and they will not initiate a refund to your bank, they will only send you a check with the usual 10 business day turnaround time.
So let's examine this, they take extra, purposely it seems, then do not want to pay you in the same timely fashion they withdrew the money. An absolute criminal tactic. Think about it, they do this to 1000s a day and get away with having more than what is rightfully theirs. Synchrony makes it very difficult to pay on your promotional purchases through them. I was originally paying more than the minimum payment toward my account as to pay off the promotional balance so I do not incur the deferred interest. I then noticed after a few payments that anything OVER the minimum due each month does not go toward the promotional balance, but instead to the standard purchase balance if you have one. I called Synchrony to ask them about this, and after a wait of about 20 minutes I was told that the only way to have those extra funds directed toward the promotional balance is to call them, each and every time you make a payment, and tell them how to apply these funds. So you have to make a 20-30 minute phone call each month to accomplish this.
In my opinion, this is their way to make this more difficult to pay off, so some consumers will be hit with the interest. Not very consumer friendly. Another issue I had is the first number listed as customer service on their website is a spambot number to get a free medical device. I called twice to make sure. Most of this time things went smooth, however when trying to resolve an Auto Pay double dip into our bank account for our payment, the procedure to get a human on the phone was insanely disrespectful, inconsiderate and absolutely nerve racking. The Corporate leaders of this company have no consideration for the time, effort and energy it takes in the world we live in to stay on an automated twisted conundrum of a phone call just to accomplish 1 goal. Then to have a human finally answer the other end of the line just to read off a script and only give robotic answers as if they have no authority whatsoever to make any decisions. Quite controlling, don't you think?
Corporate America at it's best... control one's thoughts, actions & outcomes for the "Almighty Bottom Line Profit!" Next, just to tell a customer who has good credit, and long standing account records with no missed payments, no late payments that they have the option to close their account and do nothing to resolve the issue at hand. The robot that we spoke to on the phone claimed that it was a recorded call, I hope this is true, because that is what subpoenas are for, right? End Result: We closed our account. Waiting for a "Check" to be issued for the double dip payment they took out of our account. We stopped payment on the ACH/Autopay, now they can wait on our "Check" to come in the mail. Where can I find a Zero star or negative Star button. No wonder there are so many 1 star reviews on this bank. I just came back from Ashley Furniture store where we applied for a finance through Synchrony. I have 800+ credit, they approved my application on the phone, but told the store guy that I cannot use it immediately and have to wait for the physical card. When asked for the reason, their team, including their managers I escalated the call to just have to say "Sir, it's for security".
After probing with an argumentative tone, they told it because their system couldn't authenticate a text message. Instead of a text message, I got a call and gave them the One time code over the phone, but for some reason they couldn't take that info. I asked them to cancel the account right there and they are like, "You have to wait for the card to cancel it." I feel cheated for doing my credit check and insulted for not allowing to use the card for the purchase, even after offering them to ask any security questions they want. They are robots working with dumb rules. Never buy stuff from stores, who work with this bank.

I don't know about their savings or banking account, but be very wary when purchasing from other companies that finance through Synchrony. I bought a mattress from Mattress Firm last year and instead of charging to my own credit card that I pay off every month, they just "had" to charge it to a separate Synchrony account. Before I go any further, I am well aware that this is partially my fault, but I haven't been out of my own for very long as I had just graduated from college and have little to no experience in making my own large purchases.
Thinking I had paid it off via my own credit card (which had a few thousand dollars at the time from getting an apartment and buying appliances and other necessities for it), I had forgotten that the saleswomen at the Mattress Firm mentioned they needed to go through Synchrony to finance the purchase, even though she took my credit card anyways. Thinking it was paid off later that month due to my own misunderstanding, I thought it was paid off later that month on my personal credit card account.
It wasn't until I applied for a new place and was almost REJECTED for "severe level of charge-offs". I couldn't find out why until I got my detailed screening report back and saw that I owed over $1,000 to Synchrony. I tried logging on to the Synchrony website as well as Mattress Firm, but I could not find the purchase anywhere. Keep in mind, I was not given a card or account # at the store, just a brief mention of this "Synchrony bank", so no real easy way to pay off the purchase. After that, I never received an email, call or text about any overdue payments, or warning that it was about to be for that matter.
I have a high paying job now and consider myself fairly financially responsible. No other payments have been overdue except for a few minor credit card balances that were a couple days late. I always thought this is why my credit score wasn't higher than I expected, along with the fact that my account is still fairly new. This experience however, has screwed me over. I now owe my new apartment complex a "conditional credit payment" of $655 because I had not known the mattress I bought a year ago was overdue, nor did I have easy access to pay it off until I called their customer service and had to pay extra for late fees. I'll be lucky to get a VA loan in the near future as well from this lousy company. Make sure you do your due diligence whenever you hear "Synchrony bank" come out of a salesman's mouth and try to pay in cash when you can. That's just my 2 cents.

I paid this card off in January of 2021. They closed my account without notice. My credit score is well past the required limit to qualify. I feel they closed it because I haven't used due to the interest rate. I have other cards with lower rates that I used instead..when I called their customer service department they said I had a letter in the mail. I haven't received a letter or email or phone call. This made my credit score go down. I have another card with them with a zero balance which I will close and tell them I no longer want anything to do with them. I read the reviews and apparently I'm not the only one. They just want you to keep a balance on it!

Synchrony Bank has caused me problems that I never had before by making mistakes in payment deductions on 2 of my credit or revolving accounts. They claimed that my bank refused payments on auto payment accounts that had no problems for the previous 3 years of monthly deductions. After bringing proof of the error to their attention they did nothing. They also allowed LifeLock to continue deducting $22 per month for the last 1-1/2 years after I terminated the LifeLock account, even after providing proof of the termination. As a result I’m terminating any account that uses Synchrony Bank. There are better operations I can work with instead of Synchrony.

The worst bank in the world... I will no longer be a Synchrony Bank customer. After being a loyal customer for years, they have closed all my accounts. I don't want to get more cards from synchrony...

Pro: Attractive Offering(0% finance, 10% off etc.)
Con: Just not reputable, honest, and reliable credit card company IMO.
-Delayed shipment/ or missing credit card. no acc# info until your payment is late.
-Confusing/Extra steps to sign up in order to track/pay your bill.
-Long wait on calls to customer services.
-Separated account and info from the product/service, e.g: you maintain two accounts for each (one for account/orders, one for credit card)
- Hidden/confusing info like if you have chosen 0% interest financing plan, they also offer like 3% cashback if you use the card for something else, at the end of 18month you think you paid off the loan, but payment actually has been going to something else, (so they charge both interest and late fee).
Overall, If you're careful enough, catch the problem on time. You are able to avoid paying fees/additional interest. but not worth the time and effort!
