I agree with previous posts. WE CONSUMERS NEED TO ORGANIZE AND BOYCOTT ANY CREDIT CARDS THIS COMPANY/BANK OFFERS! They have ruined people's lives and credit with their predatory practices! They close credit card accounts that are in good standing now and that have been for many years for non reason .. Or for non usage. Or they lower the credit limit on established/existing cards - again in good standing - from $4,000- $5,000 to ridiculously low amounts like $100 or $200 out of the blue and with no advance notice. Many of these accounts have very small or not balances and have been paid on time for many years with no issues! And there are THOUSANDS of these same complaints/reviews all over the internet going back many years! But they keep getting away with it. CONSUMER AFFAIRS! WE NEED HELP!!! THESE PREDATORS NEED TO BE STOPPED AND PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!

I recently had occasion to apply for credit At Lowe's to purchase a refrigerator during a special promotion. Lowes runs their credit thru Synchrony. I have a credit rating in the 800s. They would not give an immediate ok to my application which was a mystery to me. They said they would check into my credit and give a response in 7-10 days. I might add I had a similar problem when I tried to purchase tires at Discount Tire on a tire promotion.
At that time since they would not okay instant credit so I could purchase during the promotion I contacted synchrony and asked what the problem was. They could not give me an answer so I told them to close the account. Back to Lowes I received a letter from Synchrony stating they would not give me credit at Lowes Because I have an existing account with them. I do not. That account was closed 2-3 years but even if I did have an open account thru Discount Tire how does that affect an account at Lowes if there is no balance on the account. I since have done some research on Synchrony Financial and have discovered they have the 3 highest rate of complaints, have settled a class action suit, have had various legal complaints and complaints in general.
It is amazing to me that organizations continue to use this financial organization that has such poor business practices and customer support. I might add I contacted Lowes and told them I would never do business with them again. I might add I went to Home Depot to purchase the same refrigerator on credit and was approved in 5 seconds. Again with a credit rating in the 800s it is an insult to be denied credit.

The bank gives you High interest rate, but always qualified for a card regardless of bad credit. It can help you pay for gas, furniture or even car repairs. In the same sense it can hurt you if you don’t know how to use it.

I am pleased to have multiple accounts with Synchrony which makes it helpful when transacting with one specific account (i.e. Amazon). To establish credit was extremely easy and making payments is as well. To date I have not had an issue with any of my Synchrony accounts and recommend this institution to others.

Whatever you do, DON'T ever use any Synchrony affiliated credit cards. I've been lied to by foreign representatives. Treated rudely and without respect by them, while I, personally am ALWAYS polite and friendly, even when unhappy with something. The company farmed its service department out to the other side of the globe, while American citizens were out of work during COVID-19. Then, SYNBK aggressively canceled customer's credit cards who paid their bills on time. Lowered customer's available credit balances for no reason without warning- who does this? Raised APR% on customers with no balances, low balances, and 0% interest for short-terms, only to find their bills raising suddenly upon using the card. Next, those coming off of 0% interest or others with previous special interest rates and promotions, instantly found themselves with canceled cards, again- for no reason.
Multitudes of individuals with more than one Synchrony credit card, found themselves getting ALL of their SYNBK cards canceled within a few months time. Some never receiving notice at all, some getting it after the fact. SYNBK stating, sometimes simply "because they can" as a reason. Or lying and saying customer had bad credit reports, yet, it's only in-house though, no other credit card companies are using these practices. Lying to customers about not paying on time. Lying to customers about late fees resulting from this. Telling customers high balances were the problem, when the they only opened the card to purchase the one product they bought and were approved for it by SYNBK -another lie. The list goes on.
Beginning in September or October of 2020 the Synchrony Credit cards started with these practices. As soon as they were able to legally lift the COVID-19 restrictions that had been placed on them. It appears they've been using these new practices as a means of recovering the losses they suffered during COVID-19. Perhaps, as a means to ensure they do not suffer any further financial losses, they've cut off any customers who fit into their criteria for future potential financial losses or problems.
Whatever Synchrony's intentions are with this newly created procedure of closing out massive amounts of customer accounts, they certainly appears to be highly unethical tactics, if not, possibly illegal. Personally, I believe this should be investigated by whatever appropriate agencies are called upon in these matters. Especially, considering the amount of complaints I've seen listed here, all with similar apparent claims of unusual conduct. More than a few identical cases cease to seem coincidental...

The Synchrony Paypal Mastercard will not pay me about $100 in cashback because I do not have the same Paypal account. They are making up things not in the terms of agreement just to keep the money. The agreement states that you must have an active Paypal account in good standing and I do. It is just a different Paypal account because the other is closed and cannot be reopened. The terms of agreement only states you must have a Paypal account in good standing...which I do! Nowhere does it say it has to be the same account, They are making up a reason not to pay. I have multiple credit cards with Synchrony Bank. The Discount tire care card account was closed without warning even though paid on time. I blame Synchrony not the companies that use them for this poor business practice. First of all the interest rates are higher with Synchrony Bank Credit Cards than most other credit card companies. If Synchrony Bank is distributing the Credit Card.. Run because closing an account without warning causes your credit score to suffer even more. The Synchrony Bank Credit Card practice needs to change. Their practice is to continuously check your credit score even though you pay them on time with their existing accounts and make decisions. I have not been late with payments and have even paid balances out early. I will not obtain another credit card from Synchrony Bank.

I attempted to arrange an electronic transfer of funds from my bank to their bank. I was told they had no routing number because they were not that kind of a bank. When I tried to arrange to pay by cashier's check I was told that it was not a check and to pay by personal check. Given how easily personal checks can be rewritten I argued that it was better to send them a cashier's check. Again I was told it was not a check. Talking to the customer service person was like talking English to an alien being, perhaps the Borg of Star Trek, Next Generation. I asked if I could have the Post Office validate that my personal check had arrived. I was told that there no human being is there where the mail is processed so no one could sign for it. According to the Post office my cashier's check reached them yesterday at 11:50 a.m. I left instructions to cancel my account. I have decided not to be an Amazon customer.

Checks processed, syncb ask me for copies. Went to my bank and my bank faxed the required information. Next statement all was well and sent me a refund. Lost credit card and called syncb, after 1 week if card was not found will close account. Called and the avatar said I owed $3700. Talked to syncb and said it must be fraud...Asked for replacement statement as I did not receive April/May billing. Was not fraud. It was syncb rebilling me for January credit.
SYNCB said I never sent the required information. SYNCB had to have list the list or put my information in the circular file. Now syncb wants the information again...What did syncb do with the old as I was credited with the payment. I feel it is time to talk to an attorney, as too syncb billing department. If it was credited syncb it should know. My bank faxed it as good fax, so syncb must have deleted it. Have all billing information from January through April in replacement statement. This company doesn't even deserve 1 star. I opened an Amazon Credit Card in February 2021, set up the automated monthly payment, first monthly payment in March was processed correctly, the next month (April) my payment was rejected 4 times. I called my bank to see what was going on, my bank had NEVER received the payment request from Synchrony, when I reached out to Synchrony bank to see why they were rejecting the payments they stated my bank account number was wrong. I confirmed my bank account information several time (the numbers were all the same) and magically the payment was processed. Then for two weeks all of my Amazon orders placed on the synchrony card were declined without any notification.
I just received a notice stating my account was closed due to 'dishonored payment.' REALLY????? When I called about the notice the first representative Michelle basically told me maybe I should make my payments on time & my account wouldn't close. Her manager Ester was worthless as well, telling me if I had given the correct bank information in the first place my account wouldn't have been closed. Then she informed me I should call my bank because it was their fault. WOW, thank you Ester & Michelle for representing synchrony bank and showing the company's true colors!

Twice now in the last two years, I have made the mistake of purchasing from a store who used these guys for the credit line. First time with Sam's Club this time with rooms to go. And both instances, for no good reason, they have lowered my spending limit and harmed my credit score. Both times my credit score had not changed and I have made every payment on time and have paid more than being minimum due amount. Both times when I called they gave me ** generic answers and when all said and done no willingness to fix things. I closed my account with Sam's Club because of it, and I will soon be paying off and closing my account with rooms to go. I will never buy from anyone who uses these guys.

Here is my experience with Synchrony Bank: I've had a Sam's Club Credit Card with them for years and then two years ago out of the blue they decrease my credit limit on it leaving me with like $30 in available credit. I have always paid my account in full from time to time and more than once. I called customer service about it because I never received a letter as to why so they inform me one of the reasons was because I didn't make a bigger payment than the minimum for up to 6 months.
I do periodically pay more than the minimum but when you are trying to pay off a smaller card you are supposed to pay minimums on other cards to pay one off. So that is what I was doing and I let customer service know that if they require more than the minimum payment due that Synchrony is the ones to set the minimum payment so Synchrony Bank can up that amount anytime. But instead they set the minimum and then lower a credit limit if you don't pay more than the minimum. So after this ordeal I turned them into the BBB which didn't really help because the BBB is on Synchrony's side and probably because there is money under the table.
As soon as I submitted a claim with BBB Synchrony Bank replied and BBB automatically closed the case without my reply to Synchrony's reply. Needless to say ever since I turned them into the BBB I have had accounts credit limits decreased and accounts closed that I had paid off in full and some I hadn't used in a few months. One of the accounts of mine they closed was also connected to my husband so Synchrony Bank is ruining both of our credits. I guess just because that's what they do to consumers is ruin others credits.
My advice to others is to not apply for credit thru this bank, you are better off without it. Decreasing credit limits and closing accounts hurts your credit score so without Synchrony Bank you will not have to worry about this. I recently paid off 4 different accounts with this bank and now they have decreased credit limits and closed accounts since then. Never had issues like this with any other creditor just Synchrony Bank. Steer clear very bad bank to deal with!!! Once I get them all off of my credit I won't have to worry about them anymore either!!! I'm sure once they see this post I will be punished for posting because this is what this bank lives for is retaliation!!!

I didn't think much of it a couple of weeks ago when I tried to close a CARE Credit account and could not access my account on-line. Since I had paid the loan off early, I thought maybe they had closed it automatically. I contacted the Synchrony Bank and the person said they couldn't explain why, but they have sent paperwork out to me.
Almost a week later I went into Lowe's to "pay" my CC bill and had no problems. However, when I tried to make a purchase (Lowe's gives 5% if you use the card) the card had been declined. The Lowes employee contacted Synchrony Bank on my behalf. It was at that time I found out I was under investigation for fraud. While on the phone, I told the person at the Bank I could offer my Driver's License to Lowe's, and prove I am who I claim to be. Synchrony Bank not only would not consider it, but treated me as if I was the thief under investigation. The only other information she offered was to watch for paperwork in the mail.
It did not even matter that I could prove who I was and it could be verified right then and there? The guilty charge and verdict was already in motion. I just hadn't appeared in court yet. It sickens me that I have had accounts with them for years, but when my account is suddenly "suspect" by their guidelines, I am no longer treated as a customer, but a criminal. One would think they would treat ME as if they were wanting to protect ME, but I was the bad guy.
I have subsequently found out that my PayPal account has also been locked (affecting two different payment plans) as well as an additional credit card to a different merchant opened one week ago.. FOUR accounts are affected and I cannot do anything. And yet, my identity was not in question when I MADE my payment to Lowe's. The account was only frozen IF I was taking. But not giving. This really upsets me since we are a single income family and we rely on PayPal to offer the six months same as cash on items we cannot afford immediately. And this is halted.
In addition to my pain, it appears my credit score has decreased. Not only mine, but since my spouse is attached to the account, their credit is also going to get hurt. It was at that time I went to look at complaints and saw dozens and dozens on this website. Many quite recent. 1 Star! And the common denominator? It appears the customer is penalized if they pay the loan off too early. How can I not come to this conclusion since I have been doing this for a while with Synchrony Bank, and my story is so similar to others who have posted. "Frozen"-"Paid early"-"credit hurt". See the common denominator?
This begs the question-"why then offer six month (or whatever loan time) same as cash"? Unless it is a gamble for them in the hopes that many will default and pay the high interest rate? As they weed out the ones who pay early? And as one person from FL said, why waste time contacting the BBB? I agree! Since Synchrony Bank has an A+ Rating as a paid member, who is stupid enough to think they would actually care about the little guy/gal taking a position against one of their paid members? And from my personal, recent experiences, I have been turned away twice from the BBB because the complaint was involving a paid member. So I have already learned my lesson that they don't care.
It sickens me that this bank is hurting people's credit. Where is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau? I hesitated sending them the complaint because of the "fluffy" web page. Their site it reads "About us- We're the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), a U.S. government agency that makes sure banks, lenders, and other financial companies TREAT YOU FAIRLY." (Emphasis mine)
It goes on to say; "We aim to make consumer financial markets work for consumers, responsible providers, and the economy as a whole. We protect consumers from unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices and take action against companies that break the law. We arm people with the information, steps, and tools that they need to make smart financial decisions."
As the Church Lady would say "Isn't That Special." Has anyone from this tax paid organization looked at consumer affairs to read of how Synchrony Bank is treating us? Has anyone who left a complaint on Consumer Affairs been contacted by them? I realize there is always the garden variety complaint where someone is upset, but many of the complaints I read are situations where people are being hurt by this bank as they watch their credit score hurt. And as pointed out, when your credit line is suddenly reduced, so goes the credit score.
These tax paid "guardians" seem to have a lot of bark but no bite. They get paid whether they help or not. I can only hope SOMEONE will look into the common denominator, the gist as to why people are having their scores reduced. And to see if this abusive pattern is only because of the sin of paying debt off too early. Or is it simply one overzealous person who is given such power to hurt us because they can? As I said, my accounts are frozen and if I wanted to make a purchase this day, I cannot. All because of Synchrony Bank.

I intended to pay $75 but paid the full balance. I tried to get it reversed, I was told that it would take 2-3 weeks to reverse. By that time I would have already gotten paid. So I left it alone. After my account was paid in full, I got a letter stating that I owed $196 for a purchase that was made possibly 3 months prior because I did not make any charges in February. I know that I was already charged and when I made my first call, and I was told there was nothing on the account. I followed up after a few days and there the charge was. I disputed the claim. 3 months later, the charge was back on the card. I paid the card and closed the account. I would recommend this card. Lowering credit limits with no satisfactory reason (because I pay in full before interest charges, God forbid).
Closing credit cards for no satisfactory reason (have been known to use "because we can" as a reason).
Causing stress/anxiety/credit harm to individuals who are complying with requirements and harming the credit of long standing loyal customers.

I had four accounts with Synchrony Bank. CareCredit, Ashley Furniture, plus 2 more. Initially, the card for the electronics was closed. I had actually never used this card, the limit was low ($1000) and I did not think much about it as I figured it was lack of use. HOWEVER, the Care Credit card came next! This credit account had initially been over $20k, was paid in full EARLY, with ZERO missed or late payments, and I have had the credit line for literally YEARS. After several years, the credit limit was dropped to $10k, as it had not been used. This was fine, it stayed that way for a long time and I figured if I needed it I would just apply for whatever amount over I needed. Then out of no where Synchrony closed the card with no notice or any valid reasoning. I eventually got a very disrespectful letter apprising me of the account closure, complained that the information included in the letter was both inaccurate and offensive... with no response at all.
Next, The Sports Card was closed. Again, 100% on time payments, paid off early, $5k limit. Next, the Ashley card, again 100% on time payments, paid off early, $8k limit. Though my credit report CLEARLY SHOWS I have a 100% on time payment record on ALL of my accounts for years, with each account closure my credit rating dropped more and more... until now I am in the mid-low 600s!! This is NOT due to any action of mine, this is specifically due to the available amount of credit decreasing rapidly. Within a few weeks! We are in the middle of a pandemic, and I have had to assist more than one family member by some financial means, which I have, out of necessity, done through other credit. The balances of open credit provided by Synchrony allowed me to do this without a severe impact on my credit standing, and being 100% forthcoming, my credit rating was still "good" when the initial closure of Care Credit was done.
Then begins the spiral downward of my credit rating, 100% due to Synchrony deciding to close accounts I had maintained in good faith and honor. Each closure dropped my credit score, and not only had a severe impact on my credit rating, but in doing so severely diminished my options moving forward. This is how your company treats loyal and valuable paying customers? In the middle of a Pandemic when the impact is greatest? These practices are unfair and unethical, AT BEST.
NOW, were I to simply "reapply" for any of these credit lines... I WOULD BE DENIED due to the higher credit score requirements I am aware are held by Synchrony to extend credit in the first place... yet it was the closing of these accounts (SOLELY) that affected my score! This is NOT a typical "risk management" decision, this is a deliberate and premeditated action on the part of Synchrony Bank, which becomes even more clear as I look online and see the sheer VOLUME of other people this has been perpetrated upon. While utilizing very public marketing of support for "Diversity, Equity and COVID19 Relief", this bank is systematically causing undue harm (during a pandemic) to many of its customers (in these very categories) who have maintained a long-term relationship with them in good standing.

This Bank owns the QVC, HSN card. NOTE: My bill is always paid in full before it's received! They did the following to my account:
2.) Tried to charge me late fees.
3.) Totally messed up my credits on RETURN MERCHANDISE.
4.) When they finally received my payment which was LOST at THEIR mail facility, I argued with them about the "late fee".
Thought everything concerning that card was finally resolve. Think again, they charged me another 200$ for merchandise I did not purchase. Another Hassle with them that we had to fix. Long story short.. I canceled this card. I will never use this service again. Word to the wise. Do not apply for any credit cards that use this bank.

I've had to make multiple calls to resolve problems with processing simple, basic and uncomplicated transactions. With every phone call I get a confirmation number verifying the transaction, only later to discover upon checking my credit card account and my bank account that either the payment was not processed or the payment allocation was not made and in the meantime late fees, finance charges, interests, or whatever verbiage at the time being used by the rep, is tacked on to the balance. So I first got the Synchrony Amazon Store Card four years ago. All was well and I never had any issues with this account, until now. I usually pay my account in full each month to avoid interest and keep my statement balance at $0. I have never paid late, not once. Last month (Feb 2021) I had spent about $120 on my Amazon Store Card. I paid in full two days before the due date of 2/10/2021. Statement printed $0 balance on 2/15/2021. Synchrony reported $0 balance on 2/18/2021.
Then I spent about $400 on the card, with three charges on 2/21/21, 2/22/21, and 2/23/21, and do you know how they rewarded me for always paying early and in full? They REPORTED MY CURRENT MONTH'S SPENDING to the Credit Bureaus! Ten days after the bill closed, and one week after they reported my $0 balance to the bureaus, they re-reported my account with the brand new charges that were merely hours old! Those charges have not been billed yet, and won't be until March 15, 2021, so the Grace Period to pay in full won’t even begin until 3/15/2021 and those charges will not be due until 4/10/2021!
Do the bureaus really need to know that I bought a few things at Amazon before those charges are even due? Is this their way to punish me because I get 5% cash back on this card and never pay any interest? My credit score was harmed by their unnecessary, mid-cycle report and when I tried to call them about it, they put me on hold twice, 15 minutes each time, until I gave up and hung up.
My response to all of this was to immediately log in and pay my account in full. Payments show as "processed" in the payment history, but the billing activity still does not reflect the payments, nor have they been withdrawn from my bank. So now it appears they are "false processing" my payments for reasons unknown to me. I think they have crossed a major line and are now engaging in illegal activity.
Now that they have monkeyed with my account that in this way, I am reading lots of other reviews about what they have done to other people in recent weeks and months. They are lowering people's credit lines, closing accounts, and taking other actions that directly hurt customer's credit ratings, and they are doing this to the good customers who manage their accounts responsibly. They truly are punishing the responsible cardholders for reasons unknown. It makes me wonder what is going on with them internally. I do know they are paying out a large class-action settlement, but it's in the millions and Synchrony's 4th quarter 2020 earnings were in the billions so I can't imagine that is the issue.
Seems like they are just wanting to get rid of customers who don't pay interest and enjoy the rewards offered on their various store cards. Really a shame that they treat good responsible customers this way. We are literally being penalized for being a better credit risk! If I didn't already have these accounts, I think I would avoid getting involved with this bank because they may be ok for a while, but that could change overnight as it has for me, without warning and for no apparent reason other than they just want to. If they don't process my payments tomorrow, I'll be complaining to the CFPB.

Hi, please do not open a credit card account. They have no security if you want to do a chargeback. They will take the seller's side and leave you with no reason why. They just say, "The seller has advantage and we will add the total back to your payments." I made a purchase from a big company and I told them the box came in the mail but they forgot to put the item in the box, the box was empty with pads to protect the sides looks like I had return something and send it back in the box.
So I called the company 2 times, live chat with them 3 times, and had 27 emails sending back and forth, and the company tried to blame it on the carrier, and they asked me to get a hold of the carrier too. So I had to do all the work for the company sent them pictures, top, bottom, and side of the box and also inside the box with nothing inside.
Now I tried my hardest to show proof (and I did) of the empty box, and the company told me to file a claim with the carrier. Now I had to call the carrier and show proof that I talked to the carrier, and they said that the company should be responsible to file the claim they are credible for this action, then trusting a buyer like me to file that claim.
Here is when my credit card company suppose to get my back, but they didn't. Synchrony told me the chargeback that I filed is in favor of the seller because they have the advantage. That is the only reason they give, or please call the seller or company to finish the dispute. I told the company that I don't have the item two times and live chat with them 3 time and they said they talked to their supervisors and they said they have delivered the item, and please file a claim with the carrier service. I am like why don't you file a claim with the carrier, you are a well known company and the carrier told me to tell them that with an email that the carrier sent to me, stating the company is viable of filing a claim with the carrier.
I started a chargeback for 2 years going back and forth saying I have no item only an empty box lost a lot of money and no help from Synchrony stating that everything is my fault and the seller did everything they can to have the advantage of this dispute. Please don't use their credit card service they will not have protection for this kind of money loss for the buyer.

I was a long time customer of Care Credit (one month shy of 5 years, with a credit amount of $9000) and I NEVER missed a payment or was late paying. Due to COVID and the difficult past year, I had two (one in March and one in November) where my Health Saving's Account fell below the usual balance, and my automatic payment for Care Credit was declined, BUT paid the very next day.
Because of these two payments, Care Credit closed my account. (Of course they waited until I had paid off my entire balance.) I think it is horrific to treat long time customers (or any customers) this way, especially in the time of a pandemic. Shame on them! I'm actually glad they closed my account, now that I know what kind of "care" they have for their customers. There were 595 consumer reviews of Synchrony Bank in Stamford, Ct on the BBB website. Synchrony Bank has a rating of 1.06 STARS out of 5 STARS. There were 1950 complaints in the last year alone and 5053 complaints in the last three years. Somehow, the BBB rates Synchrony Bank with an A+ Rating probably because the BBB collects a yearly fee from Synchrony Bank and presumably because Synchrony Bank will provide you with a canned response no matter what. There is a huge difference between legal and ethical norms. Synchrony Bank can do just about anything they want to legally but that does not mean it is ethical.
If you take the time to read complaints, you will find that Synchrony Bank does not care about your business. They do not care that they are hurting your credit score even when you are a good paying customer. Take the time to read the responses that Synchrony Bank has to individuals that have paid their accounts as agreed and had their credit rating destroyed by this company. There are probably hundreds, if not thousands of individuals, that have had their credit destroyed by this business without cause and the responses from Synchrony Bank are all canned.
The consistent responses are always:
1) When you got credit from the bank, you agreed to allow Synchrony Bank to reduce your credit limit or close your account at any time for any reason even though they will not contest in the majority of complaints that a customer has paid them on time for even a matter of years.
2) If you say, correctly that I might add, that Synchrony has hurt your credit score. The response is that your credit score can change on a daily basis. Even though Synchrony banks employees without any doubt that they hurt your credit, don’t expect an apology or an admittance that they have done so.
3) Synchrony Bank claims to provide notice to individuals that they have reduced your credit limit or closed your account, even though it is statistically impossible for them to actually be doing so as required by law.
4) They will say that they will review your credit periodically with their credit scoring system and tell you that you need to contact the credit report agency when they hurt or destroy your credit for NO REASON.
5) They will report closing your account or reducing your credit limit immediately and claim that it would hurt their reputation with the credit reporting agencies if they did not do so. Of course this is an utter lie, the FCRA does not require anyone to report anything at any time and I doubt highly that the credit reporting agencies care as long as a consumer is complaining.
6) They will say that we care about your business even though it is obvious that they do not. Read their canned responses to complaints.
Between 12/21/2020 and 2/8/2021, Synchrony Bank received a total of 48 consumer complaints SOLELY directed at the headquarters element of Synchrony Bank and SOLELY through the Better Business Bureau (BBB) located in Stamford, CT. This DOES NOT include complaints directed at any other Synchrony Bank subsidiary locations and DOES NOT include complaints from other BBB locations throughout the United States. Furthermore, this analysis DOES NOT account for the number of complaints on other platforms or number of individuals that never made a complaint. Thus, we can extrapolate that the numbers of incidents is EXTREMELY under-reported.
Out of the 48 complaints between 12/21/2020 and 2/8/2021, 50% (24 complaints) related to Synchrony closing accounts (20) or reducing credit limits (4) on accounts. From a statistical standpoint, approximately 50% of the 1950 complaints in the last year or 975 complaints were for closing accounts or reducing credit limits. In the last three years, approximately 50% of 5053 complaints in the last three years or 2526.5 complaints were for closing accounts or reducing credit limits.
Out of the 24 complaints associated with closing accounts or reducing credit limits, the following information was extrapolated: 62% (15 of the 24 individuals) specifically stated in their complaint that they paid their account on time and Synchrony Bank did not dispute this in their response to the claim. From a statistical standpoint, approximately 62% of 2625.5 individuals (1627 Individuals) in the last three years had a DECREASE in their FICO or VantageScore as a SOLE discretion of Synchrony Bank closing or reducing their credit limits when they paid their account on time or had a zero balance..
58% (14 of the 24 individuals) stated specifically in their complaints that they NEVER received notice from Synchrony Bank at all PRIOR to OR AFTER accounts were closed or credit limits were reduced. From a statistical standpoint, if the approximately 58% held true. Out of the 975 complaints in the last year, approximately 565 people did not receive ANY notice that their account was closed or their credit limit was decreased. In similar fashion, it would indicate that about approximately 1522 individuals out of 2625.5 people in the last three years DID NOT receive the required notice. Synchrony Bank stated explicitly multiple times in their responses to individual complaints that they are aware of the requirement in the Fair Credit Reporting Act to notify clients that their accounts were closed or limits were decreased.
Synchrony Bank claimed that the individuals that complained all received notice even though 58% said that they received no notice. Thus, it is highly that Synchrony Bank is in fact making false statements and is in direct violation of the law. 50% (12 of the 24 individuals) stated specifically in their complaints that their credit was negatively impacted as a DIRECT RESULT of Synchrony Bank. In a technical sense of the word, Synchrony Bank may legally close or reduce the credit limit on any account for ANY REASON at their SOLE discretion. However, it is HIGHLY UNETHICAL to destroy an individual’s credit when they are paying their Synchrony bill as required or maintaining a zero balance. This becomes an even greater issue when Synchrony Bank is OBVIOUSLY not providing many individuals notice or allowing the individual an opportunity to reduce their credit utilization rate prior to reporting to a credit bureau.
Synchrony Bank has made claims that their credibility with the credit bureau would be hurt if they failed to report accounts closed by the creditor for no legitimate reason other than they can do so legally without any oversight or repercussions. It is also technically legal to decrease an individual’s credit limit at their sole discretion without oversight or repercussions. However, it is extremely poor business to not give an individual an opportunity to decrease their credit utilization prior to reporting the decrease to credit bureaus. Synchrony Bank’s claim about credibility with a credit bureau is laughable. There is nothing in the Fair Credit Reporting Act that forces a creditor to report closing an account especially when the individual has been a loyal paying customer of the business. Why would you do this when you know all it does is hurt a loyal paying customer?
There is also nothing in the Fair Credit Report Act that prohibits a creditor to have the decency to allow an individual an opportunity to reduce their credit utilization rate prior to reporting a credit limit decrease to a credit reporting agency. Synchrony Bank has the legal ability to arbitrarily reduce someone’s credit limit based upon whatever “credit scoring” system that they deem relevant.
Thus, this bank can reduce your credit limit from $3000 to $1500 without notice. If you owe $1490 when the decrease takes place, your credit utilization rate will increase from 50% to 99% without any notice. In a case like this, Synchrony Bank will DIRECTLY negatively impact you FICO or VantageScore in a major way. Since 35% of your credit score is based upon credit utilization, your credit score could be impacted by a hundred points and there is nothing you can do about it because Synchrony Bank can do whatever they want to do with your credit and there is nothing you can do about it.

Online many people now are being abused by this dishonest and evil practice of synchrony bank. I don’t know who owns that bank but maybe we should all boycott synchrony bank and force companies to cancel them as they are cancelling us. I am doing this to reach out and ask everyone to file complaints that synchrony bank does this too. Also complain to businesses that have their cards that synchrony cancelled. Maybe we can force by numbers the companies to choose a better bank to issue those company credit cards in the future. Meanwhile everyone cancel your credit cards with synchrony bank and take back control of our credit.

I have no late payments, all accounts are current. Synchrony chooses to reduce credit limits. Close "0" balance accounts. This has decreased my credit score 75 points. They approve credit cards at one amount and then reduce them. Showing your credit available being maxed out. When you pay them off, zero balance. They close the card. They are destroying my credit. Do not take any accounts associated with this company. I have most of mine paid off and my credit is still in bad standing, thanks to this company.

I have had an Amazon store card by Synchrony for 5 plus years I have never missed a payment and I have always paid more than the minimum payment. They have decreased my credit limit twice, both times it has hurt my credit score. This bank/financial company has hurt my credit score. When I called in the person I talked to said that they can reduce your limit at their discretion. They never raise your limit unless they can do a hard inquiry on your credit which can also hurt your credit score. Yes I carry several cards with high limit, I pay over the minimum and always on time. I have paid them off and then used them again, never out of a balance that I feel that I couldn't pay for.
This bank/ financial company feels that I am over extended. I don't feel that they have that right. That is none of their business. I could understand if my payments were late or just minimum. I tried calling for help holding on for 45min and an hour on two occasions without even speaking to anyone. I then tried writing and never got any help or guidance from Synchrony. I finally figured out the problem and got the correct wire numbers and immediately proceeded to make payment for half of the total amounts due not even the min amount due. I was told that I was denied because they couldn’t verify my identity. I called them and told them the app malfunctioned, they said they couldn’t do anything about it. I told them I already have three accounts with them. They said it doesn’t matter.
In other words Synchrony’s policy is to trust their app over a human being that is talking to them in real time on the phone. Unbelievable! This seems unethical and just bad business practice to me because people with excellent credit are being denied because of a malfunctioning app. They should have a process in place where when that happens, a customer should be able to contact a customer service agent and rectify the problem, but they don’t. I paid my Care Credit card in full and most times BEFORE it was due every time I used it for her. I applied for and was approved for a City Furniture card. I was saving the card for new furniture for when I closed on my new house this year in the Fall.
Right before my closing, they reduced the limit on ALL of the cards I had for Synchrony. I had zero balances on them. My dog had a medical emergency this month! I rushed her to the vet's office and they required a pre-payment so I attempted to use my Care Credit card which declined! I did not have the funds available in cash to cover the emergency and my dog died! I called Synchrony to ask why my card was cancelled and was told they were not allowed to give that information over the phone and a notice was mailed to me in November (of which I still have never received).
My Daizy was like my child. I got her when she was 6 weeks old. She would have turned 12 years old January 1, 2021. Recently the security lock-out have been happening on every other transaction over the last 6 months. Recently I lost several important payments for inventory because of the security freeze. Because of the freeze I lost out on purchases costing me over $4000.00 lost opportunity revenue. After unfreezing my account for the 4th time in 2 months I am filing this review.
Here is the issue I ask to speak to a supervisor regarding this issue. I was refused! I ask is this issue happening to other card users. I was informed this was a company wide issue. I asked how this is being addressed. CS had no true response but apologize and said they are trying to fix the issue. This issue has been going on for 6 months. Just tonight my account is frozen again and a business purchase was cancelled. I am done with this account.
I suggest that anyone having issue to never ever do business with Synchrony credit card services. They refuse to fix the problem and refuse to offer any sort of compensation for the thousands of lost revenue. Now they claim my account is a security risk and that I have not access to it until a new card is sent to me. My old card is no longer active and shut down. First, I was not told this was a credit card account. That being said I was somewhat taken back when reviewing credit report. I discovered that instead of a installment loan it was a credit card. I had $1700 limit and had charged $1500 plus. So my credit immediately nose dived due to high utilization. Over 50 points in fact. In 5 months I get the balance to $840. Do you know how they reward me with paying on time and making extra payments. They decrease my credit limit from $1700 to $910. Once again pushing my utilization up and credit down by 50 points. This is ridiculous, I'm so glad I wasn't in the middle of a large purchase. I would be livid.
Nothing has changed with my credit report except I have less debt than I did 5 months ago. On time payments at 100% at 21% utilization across all accounts including this one averaged in. I will never use a company that keeps my credit jacked up the entire time the account is active! I will tell others on my podcast The Common Sense Channel not to do business with these folks. So then you are over the reduced credit limit and that goes against your credit score. Paid on time and never even late. They just closed two accounts for no reason. Dropped my credit score 50 points. Before this they lowered the one randomly and then raised it again within 3 months. They say they base it off of "certain factors" but the factors never changed and in fact had gotten better than from when I applied.
Why give it to the consumer in the first place. They are literally damaging people's credit by their random and guidelines that change constantly. The complaints are everywhere when you start searching. This should be illegal what they are doing. Even worse with the lay offs and people not working during COVID the complaints you see these poor people stating they won't work with them at all. To say they are basing the reducing of the credit limits and closing cards off of their ever guidelines then why do you have people ALL saying the same thing? Nothing changed from when they applied. No late or missed payments.
Credit should've never been granted in the first place if that is what you were basing it off of. They advised my payment I made would be applied correctly however they applied to another purchase that was a promotion. When I called they advised it would take up to two statement cycles to be adjusted, this is not what I was originally told. Since they charge 27% percent interest I was concerned, however they keep saying up to two cycles. Don't understand why they don't allow you to allocate payments on their website. By the way my credit rating is excellent with Transunion and I have never been late or missed a payment with them, a side note. I have two other accounts with them in good standings that have been paid in full. Is this the way you want to be treated as a consumer? Do they legally have a right to do this considering it can cost me thousands in finance charges as I am in the process of buying a house. I am writing this review to highlight the devious and felonious business practices of QVC and Synchrony Bank. For the past 7 months I received monthly statements where I am being charged for items never received. Every monthly statement I received have exorbitant over limit fees, flex pays added when the flex pays should stop and credited to my account. The over $1,000+ payment I was making every month would never decrease but remain the same $6,000+ on each monthly statement for the past 7 months until the latest one being $7,000+ which I enclosed with a letter to Synchrony Bank showing I better have this amount credited before 60 days.
I will be contacting NY State Attorney General and BBB for support in handling this serious matter. I will not allow QVC/Synchrony Bank to damage my 800 credit rating or take advantage of me during this coronavirus pandemic when losing jobs are at a very high rate. I work in a medical center and was fortunate health wise to work through this first phase without getting sick at 65 years old this past June. I have always paid off every bill each month. Every time QVC customer service rep inform me I will see the credit on next statement, I see QVC/Synchrony Bank have added more flex pays causing each statement to be over the limit and charging me outrageous fees in the process.
UPS and USPS do not bring the boxes to the door of the apartment or leave a slip in the mail box or on the door if no one is home. They would leave all boxes in the lobby in front of the mailboxes where anyone could take your packages. This went on during the months of March through present. QVC was made aware of this the first time I experienced this but yet tack on all flex pays on every monthly statement. QVC =Quit Violating Consumers. QVC presenters claim how easy it is to return items but they don't tell you the full disclosure when it comes to crediting your account. I read other complaints of the same issues and we all cannot be lying.
Walmart dropped that $8 million lawsuit where as every consumer who Synchrony Bank has destroyed their credit should be made to pay for restitution and corrected their wrong. Synchrony Bank uses very deceptive tactics against consumers. I am waiting for a correct statement so that I can continue to pay off my bill each month as I was doing before this pandemic. With another wave coming and Election Day on Tuesday, I am trying my best to "Keep from going under". Everyone Stay Safe and Be Blessed. This too shall pass.

I had the misfortune of getting involved with Synchrony bank as they were partnered as a website's credit card provider. After "taking advantage" of a 1 year no interest offer earlier to purchase a computer for school the nightmare started. Month one I found out the auto enrolled me in a program that was adding an additional $80 every month as an "insurance policy" in case I was injured and couldn't make payments! Not only that but this charge itself wasn't qualified for my no interest promotion and thus immediately begun to accrue interest. It took 7 emails and over 4 hours on the phone to get this taken off.
Still every month I overpaid my bill to the point that I was easily going to have it paid off in 9-10 months no interest no problem. Beginning month four right when my payments were starting to make a dent into the % of used credit this account was bearing they decided to for no reason lower my credit limit to $10 over my current balance!! YUP you guessed it. Tight back at 99% account credit usage and a nice dip to the 'ol credit rating for an account that has nothing but perfect payments. To this there was and still is no real answer aside that Synchrony can do whatever it wants when it wants to its customers, and they will because who cares right? Not them! I tried fighting for days and days but they don't care and will eventually just stop responding.
I guess it shouldn't surprise you that come month 8, after nothing but continued perfect payments they lowered my maximum credit to $20 over my current balance again... Right back at 99% used credit on an account that had basically 10% of the initial credit/balance. Just a prime example of trash bank that will do nothing but try to screw you at every turn even if you are an impeccable customer. After paying off this card my credit was 15 points lower than when I opened it and it has nothing but perfect payments. Why would ANYONE do business with such a garbage company? I honestly avoid websites who partner with Synchrony at this point simply because it shows their own lack of judgement/care for customers.

What I'm sure it tells you in the paperwork, which I didn't read through my tears, was that they do charge a late fee, no matter how late, of $28. I got a notification saying my credit limit was changed. I called to see how much it went up by and found out they actually lowered it from 1,100 to 400! I've been making payments to get below the 30% usage and also to increase available credit for a big holiday purchase. That is now out the window as they cut my credit limit significantly. I was almost below the 30% usage and now I'm all the way back up to 80% because of this. Customer service sounds like you're on a speaker phone with the speaker very far away - they don't speak much English and have you jump through hoops just to pull up your account: verification code is recited over the phone with no explanation (was I supposed to write it down?), they want your name and address, then spell your name and address, then transfer you to someone else who is in a different department (why, I don't know) who again asks for your name and address, says they need a verification code, blah blah blah. Every other bank is either automated, or the agent looks up the phone number you are calling from and has your info right there. At a minimum they might ask for the account number and then a security word, but not Synchrony Bank. Ten minutes later, and they are still asking for a verification code and my address!
I loved getting the GAP/Athleta rewards on this card, but I have had real difficulty getting credited back on my account for items I have returned on the card. Which is why I called. Zappos says I returned the items, I have tracking that shows they got my return and also an email from Zappos saying refund has been processed. I even got a Synchrony alert saying "a credit has posted on your account"; but when I look online at the account, there's no credit - for this charge or another that was returned to a different vendor. It makes me wonder if they purposely hold onto your money through the billing cycle so you will pay the whole balance including the refunds you are waiting for, OR that they will be able to charge you interest and finance charges on a higher balance that doesn't reflect the returns.
The "chat" agent is virtual, until you complain that "Sydney" didn't answer your question. Then, a "live" agent will come on the line who isn't much better. She wanted the order date, amount, and UPS tracking number to show I had actually returned the items. I told her, "Zappos says they got it, your return has been processed, etc. so this isn't a Zappos problem, but a Synchrony Bank problem." It had already been ten days since Zappos said the credit came through so they should have had it, but they didn't. So, I gave her all the info and she "disputed" the original charge which would be resolved, she said, in up to 60 business days. When she didn't really answer my other question, Alex W. the chat person abruptly ended the call - just clicked off - and I was left with no answer.
When I tried to fill out the survey of my experience (it wasn't going to be a positive experience) a bunch of computer code came up as if someone had disabled that feature - I wonder why?! The dispute process if you have a problem is archaic; you can't dispute charges online, but have to fill out a paper form and fax (!) it to them! One charge, for gym membership charged after the gym closed due to Covid, is still on my account and has not been credited; most credit card companies will charge back the merchant and put it in suspense for you until it is resolved, but not Synchrony. They won't go to bat for you. It worries me if I end up with fraudulent activity on this card, so I am going to cancel it and get a card with a bigger, more reputable bank.

I've had similar issues with Cards I've held for merchants utilizing Synchrony. Seems that their periodic reviews lower credit limits, and now in this case CLOSED the account with no adverse behavior on my part. When I called them, their Customer Care stated that in my Terms & Conditions it says they evaluate accounts every 4 months and this last review gave them a scare so they closed the account (reviewing real estate balances (its a 30 year loan ^)^ that is current), Balances to limits on store cards, lots of cards, etc. Thing is, my credit score was the same then. Nothing has changed except that I'm paying this account down slowly just like every other card I have.
For them, this isn't enough apparently. With two other cards I've held by them (low limits - 3-700 bucks) every few months they'd lower the limit as I paid it down until I finally just closed one of them. Also, they automatically sign you up for their services which automatically adds 10-15 bucks to each billing to 'protect' me should I become sick or jobless. I've declined those services and one would wonder if that's the true reason - because, you know, interest isn't enough... Very frustrating - trying to pay down balances (so that it helps my credit) and they lower limits or cancel with no warning. If you're applying for a store card that use Synchrony - RUN.

I have 7 Synchrony credit cards, mostly because they have taken over other companies and my cards that were originally with a store or other company now belong to Synchrony. I have always made well over the minimum payment, never been late, always stayed below my credit limit. I was one of the lucky ones when Covid hit and was able to keep my job, so paying my bills wasn't an issue. I received a notice from Credit Karma that my score dropped by 48 points in one day, and that ALL of my Synchrony accounts had been closed. Paypal, Amazon, Chevron, Care Credit, Lowes, Old Navy and more. No warning, no call, text, email, nothing, just closed all of my accounts and ruined my credit, overnight. I called and was told there was a letter in the mail to me and that it was a "business decision".
4 days later I still have nothing from the company. It is unbelievable to me that this unethical and damaging company is allowed to operate this way. I hope they get hit with Karma quickly since it sounds like from the reviews they are closing accounts of people who can pay their bills. The kind of customers they should WANT. I am also just disgusted that this is who PayPal, Care Credit and Amazon choose to do business with. To me, this tars them with the same brush of nastiness and bad business as Synchrony itself. I'm sure I will pull myself out of this and get my credit back, but it is pretty hard to make up 48 points. I am going to try and take this further and see if there is some sort of class action that can be filed to recoup the costs the arbitrary closing of these accounts will cause. If anyone was in the middle of trying to refinance their home or get a car their costs will go up significantly thanks to the lower credit score caused by Synchrony.

After my mother died I took the mattress she passed away on as I had bought her that mattress and I just didn't have the heart to throw it away. I left an abusive relationship years later and that mattress was the only thing I had to sleep on. It brought back lots of traumatic memories of my mother dying that I finally decided to get a new mattress but didn't have the cash to buy one so I came in contact with this mattress manufacturer that said they do No Interest/Same As Cash Loans for mattresses for up to 24 months so I signed up. It was a way to donate my mother's mattress to a homeless person that needed a warm bed to sleep on and a way for me not to be attached to the negative memories.
From the start the billing was screwed up. I was supposed to receive a statement in the mail to which never happened. I finally got ahold of the mattress manufacturer to get a contact number to the company so I could try to figure out what was going on. They ended up having the wrong address on file. This caused my bill to be late because I never received a bill. The customer service department stated they would change my billing to defer those payments so I wasn't showing late and start over again the following month. I stated I wanted to make those payments because I had never been late on a bill and didn't want it reporting negatively on my credit.
I have been paying on this "what I thought was a loan but is a credit card," for almost 2 years and still have yet to receive a credit card. I never received one so I had thought this whole time this was a No Interest/Same As Cash Loan that I was paying toward. I could make payments whenever and it would apply to the principal amount until January 2021. I have called continuously to this company and their less than professional and helpful customer service department to try to get the outrageous "interest fees and late fees that continue to accumulate interest" credited and they are NOT helpful.
I finally got fed up last week and recorded the phone call so everyone could hear how rude, unprofessional and disrespectful these 'so called customer service representatives and customer service supervisors' are. The real kicker is when I told them I did not sign up for a credit card and that I never received a credit card. The customer service supervisor stated that she would be sending a new card in the mail. She only did that to be spiteful! Synchrony Home Credit Card Company is fraudulent in the way they conduct business. They are not clear in their contracts, do not provide detailed information, misrepresent the facts of the contract and pretend to help only to have the charges reversed and added back to your account. I have called numerous times regarding the same issue.
Bottom line: THEY DON'T CARE!!! They won't even shut up to listen to what is going on. I continue to record them so I can blast them on social media since they are so disgusting of a company to deal with. I've been trying to pay my balance off but I'm not going if they want to fraudulently charge me $363.52. This is how they fraudulently get your money then if you don't pay it there is the threat of ruining your credit because they have all the power to report inaccurately like they already have. I have always paid my bills on time except with this company supposedly. This company is nothing but a scam.
Whoever wants to go in on a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT please let me know. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been through "hell" with this same company. Please do yourself a favor, save your headache and frustration and DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT THAT SAYS SYNCHRONY ON IT PERIOD!!! WORST COMPANY EVER!!!! I don't want to give this ** company one star but that's the lowest choice you could choose from for the lowest rating.

My wife and I have several credit cards through this bank and they lowered our limits and closed one account when Covid 19 hit. They are all about self preservation. Never even called us to check our situation. We have since paid them off and I do not plan to do business with them again in the future. Horrible customer service and tough times. We used several of our cards for some renovations to our home which is what the cards are for and they punished us for it. What is the point of having the cards if you don't use them? They clearly over reacted...

When I 1st signed up with Synchrony I was advised no credit check is required. It is based on your annual salary. That was their guarantee. I make fairly good money so they approved me on credit. I got credit through their Care credit, Lowes, JC Penney, Paypal, Auto, Rooms to Go, HQ shopping, The higher credit which with JC penney, Lowe's Rooms to go as well it's care credit @2000.00. Now let me point out I have never, never been late. I have paid above the minimum required amount the majority of each payment. I have been paying in to this company somewhere around 300.00 a month for all these credit cards which I'm not having a problem with doing now.
All of a sudden they're dropping my cards down to $200 telling made they've check my credit Telling me my credit score was too low reflecting as 601. I just bought a car. My credit score is 697. They told me trans America told them it was 601. I called trans America. I obtained a copy of my report. It showed at that time 650. Credit scores don't jump that much in a matter of 2 months. They lied, they are deceitful, and I believe that they initially tell you no credit check, that they go by your annual income to get people to sign up, so it shows a high number of register customers.
Again, originally the online agreement was no credit is required, only an annual income. I provided place of employment. They have dropped me down on Rooms to Go. They judge dropped me down from Sam's club from $700 till a little over $200, rooms to go from 2500 to 200. And I never even used it. The care credit card was shut off no warning. No warning on any of this, none! They lied, they were dishonest, they failed to follow through with the original contract agreement and they need to be held accountable. They lied about why they dropped my credit, they lied about my credit score. In my opinion this is a disreputable bank. My suggestion is stay clear from synchrony bank. Stay away from them. I did nothing that should have caused this to happen to me. They embarrassed me at the store when I tried to use my Sam's club card. And they don't care.

I have had many credit cards, but never has a bank made it so hard to make a payment. I tried their online service for payments as I have done for dozens of other cards. Never did their online system work. I did not have late payments, but had to call in and make payments over the phone. After the third month that I tried re-entering in my checking account and the payment not working they canceled the card. Mind you I paid on time in full every month, I just tried their online system before having to make a phone call. Well, they took all of my cashback reward. I was going to cancel the card anyway because it feels like a scam. I would advise anyone thinking about getting a Sam's Club Master Card, Credit Card using Synchrony Bank to NOT!! SCAM would be a nice term for what this is, at the very least it was very poor customer service, and a rotten banking experience.

I personally feel that it was a actual person who closed everyone’s account. Don’t know how however. I hope they go out of business. My husband and I both have a Care Credit/Synchrony card, separate accts. One of ours was recently paid off and the payment was made before the time and never late in the years of having it, but when it came to putting the credit limit back to match the payment amount, they didn't. Money was paid from out bank acct immediately and they received it, but didn't put credit limit back to amount. Not only that, but they had numerous amounts they were saying that was still owed and it changed based on a couple of days. When confronted about this, they came up with more excuses and no offering of facts to back their statements. No set time line and stories were never the same, even twice, and by different people.
We have no intention of ever using the card again since the lies and deceit used by the company. They get the money, change numbers, and can't give an honest and factual date of when things will be zero and credit limit back to the amount. They are righteous when it comes to money you owe them, but anything else and they don't want to deal with you and want to lie and make things up as they go. We pay what we owe, they charge high interest, maybe they should be charged for falsifying information. Once this is handled, this acct will be closed and NOT use another synchrony acct ever again.

As many others have posted, we are experiencing the same problems with Synchrony. Every time we pay off a credit card, they close the account the following month. We have never been late and recently began paying off well more than the minimums to where we could pay off many cards. Instead of keeping the accounts opened, Synchrony closes them. We have had many cards held by Synchrony. Not only is this place giving themselves a bad name, but they are also giving the merchants a bad name. We will never recommend Synchrony or get another card again. After all, even if you are responsible and make the payments or pay off your card(s), they either lower the balance or completely close the account. Such a terrible practice. Terrible customer service.

Despite their announced "10 minute" wait time, I was on hold for over 20 minutes before a person picked up. Her name was something like Deela, but she didn't say it clear enough for me to hear it. I tried to explain that Synchrony Bank (CareCredit) has erroneously charged me $279 in late fees for a year now. She began to snap. Every time I tried to say something, she would cut me off and talk over me. I tried to explain that my bank sends the payment around the first of every month (Synchrony keeps changing the actual due date making it difficult), but even 1 to 2 days late should have a grace period. However, she wouldn't listen, she just kept interrupting me, talking over me loudly.
She was being so terribly rude that I wanted to speak with someone else. Snarkily, she claimed she was going to transfer me, but hung up on me instead, knowing most people aren't going to call back and wait on hold a half hour to clear the air. She was a disgusting display of how not to treat customers. She should NOT be in customer service in any company. It seems pretty obvious that she "dropped the transfer" so that I would NOT be able to speak with someone else, much less complete the survey at the end giving her a bad score.

Platinum bailed on the job & to this day they have NOT completed the job plus the work is shoddy & we have problems with the electrical. During this time Platinum went around the dispute & ran our credit without our permission! I filed a fraud complaint with Synchrony & again they did nothing! I have been doing business with Synchrony Bank for several years and have had nothing but the best experience with them. I'm disabled and have 3 different cards with synchrony. I love that I can make several payments a month keeping my balance down and pay my full at the end of every month, what I still owe so no interest and using the automated system to pay using my debit card is so easy, fast and free. My payment is always added to my account as soon as I make the payment, same day. I don't have a bank account but from what I have learned it takes the payment longer to be received and added to your account when using a check, money order.
People should get a prepaid debit card to make their payments because it's so much easier, faster for your payment to hit your account and like I said the payment is added right then during the call through the automated system. I use my Amazon prime rewards card a lot because the rewards are great,5% cashback and I get a lot of my family, pet needs at Amazon. Especially since I pay full balance every month there is never any interest to pay. So I usually have $40 to $50 in rewards every month and that's great. I only have 4 credit cards and that's plenty to help my credit score which is in the low 700. I don't have anything bad on my report but I do, have used too much of my credit line which will affect your credit score sometimes if you don't keep your credit utilization below 30%.
Also I don't think a lot of people understand that when they have several different credit cards that each card reports at different times of the month and so everything you owe on each card every time one is reported to the credit bureaus all of your cards usages is reported, recorded on your credit report, credit utilization. So you really have to pay attention to your credit utilization since your credit usage is being reported a few times during a one month period. Some people probably think like I use to that all credit card companies report at the same time once a month. They don't. Understanding when each of your credit cards are reported will help you a lot to keep your credit utilization down by keeping your balance down before each report. I hope I explained this good enough so people can understand. I wish I knew at first but now I do. I don't understand some of the bad reviews.
But some looks like people just don't know how to use their card responsibly or may have too many cards, too much debt, credit utilization being high more than 30%. I don't know. I just know Synchrony Bank has been good to me and I've never had a problem with them. I have contacted customer service a few times to ask a question and have always been treated very good by the representative I talked to. I have nothing but good things to say about Synchrony Bank.

On 9/4 I write Synchrony Bank and explain this, requesting that they reopen my account and ask why they didn’t at least notify me beforehand. On 9/7/2020 I get a response that it was closed “based on their evaluation of their ‘sound’ credit scoring system” and that “a letter was sent on 9/2/2020 and will further explain the details surrounding my account”. Makes no sense. My credit score has increase since I received the Care Credit card, I have 100% on-time payments for all of my creditors, including Synchrony, and have 0 derogatory accounts. They charged $25 in Nov 2019 which is within 14 months they cited so that fell on deaf ears. Guess what I get in the email today? A letter from Synchrony Bank that their decision was due to "no recent activity on this account" and "Number of months since last purchase on this account".
I went to make a payment for an item on eBay and my PayPal card was declined? Huh, so I go check and account is closed, no warning, nothing. I then went to check all accounts thru them and every one of them is closed without any notification, call, email, snail mail, text, just nothing. Mind you, this is a shock, inconvenience and will reflect negatively on my credit, no account payments were late and several of them reward money I saved to use for the holidays or later, all gone. Almost $700 in total which is 100% thievery. I earned those, I paid interest charges so I am beyond livid.
In today's times, that is extremely cruel. They made money hand over fist with me for years and they couldn't give me warning to use my points and rewards or lose them? How is that even legal? Sure it is mean but it is stealing, pure and simple. I guess I will be getting snail mail notifications about why they closed these accounts I used and paid on every month. First I had to get an affidavit notarized by my bank because I didn't own a smart phone, only a flip phones. Then we followed all the procedures only to not have an answer the day of the Dental Surgery to pay our dental bill so I had to put on my regular credit card. Then when all the paperwork came by mail regarding the account along with the card, I could not find any information pertaining to how long my debt would be deferred based on $4,000. Would it be 6, 12,18, or 24 months and then I read that all other non promotional purchases would be charged interest at 26.99% Interest!
When I tried to chat to get the answer I got a short reply from a rep that posted only the phone number to call... so I called, then the rep told me that I need to put my mother on the line...I did but then they said she had to stay on the line and apparently I could not ask the question and get the answer, it had to be my mother who doesn't hear well and need assistance but they never allowed me to talk to them in order to get my question answered. They kept playing games that they can not talk to me, only my mother... SO Frustrating!!!
I told them to close the account because they were very sketchy about a simple question that should be clearly posted in the card holder documents, about how long the interest would be deferred on a qualified purchase. Should be SIMPLE but we never could find out the truth.... I am glad to get out now as I can only imagine that my first bill would show 26.99% Interest charged and I would never get a resolved without paying in full. IF it is this hard to get a simple question answered, I am glad not to have thousands of dollars subject to such a rip off interest rate.... Applied for a credit card for Sam's Club through Synchrony Financial Bank and online offer said $45.00 credit. I was approved and when card came went to Sam's...no $45.00 credit. Was told that was through Synchrony. Called... told 90 days in two separate calls. Now told not eligible. Suppose to have use the credit same day! Was waiting on credit card! Very misleading! Never go through this shady financial institution unless you don't mind underhanded dealings and being cheated.

I applied for the cards July 15 2020, was told I needed to call for further verification which I did 800-480-0186, the person I spoke to said I'll be receiving the card within 10 business days. Called to check on July 31st and was told the cards were mailed July 29 2020. I received the cards yesterday 8/3/2020 and proceeded to activate them and add them to my digital wallets (Google and Apple Pay). Adding the card to Google Pay was a breeze, took less than 30 seconds. The nightmare started when I went to add the card to apple pay which was yesterday around 7:20pm. The apple digital wallet stated the only option to validate the card was to call the bank, which is rare but I proceeded to call, was told a link needed to be sent to my phone via text, the link then proceeded to have me fill out my information, take a 5 second video of my face and upload the front and back side of my driver license.
When I went to do this latter part the software made it to where I was unable to upload my driver license. The customer service person acted like he didn't have a brain in his head, got a supervisor on the line who in turn said she can make an exception, send me a code from a LexisNexis email which I read back to her and told me that from her end everything was set. The next morning I went to my apple pay wallet and the card was still not active, so I called again only to be told I needed to be sent a code by no other means than snail mail. So now I sit here wondering if I have to wait another near month just to have my card added to apple pay. See the nightmare? I have other credit cards and never had an experience like this.
I've already lost 5 hours of my time trying this only to hit a dead end plus typing this. Yes this is very unacceptable and incompetent thus I will be switching carriers soon. I hear the merger between Sprint and T-Mobile has made their network a sweet deal to try. Today August 7 I was at Maverick in Aurora Colorado, went there to buy gasoline and my card was declined. You know how embarrassing that is? So, I'm done. Maybe I should have never applied for this card, but I did in good faith thinking it would be a good thing, now I have to say; how wrong I was. I don't think I'll ever again do business with anything that has the Synchrony Bank brand or is affiliated with it.

Not happy. They lowered my limit so low after years of service with them and never having a late payment to any card I have, I now no longer have enough to even cover new brakes when I need them...maybe a few oil changes. So now this card that once had a limit of over $2000 is now useless. When I called to ask why, the customer service representative sounded like he was reading me a script and sounded very condescending. I will now be canceling my service with them.

Today I applied for a Care Credit card due to needing 14 extractions in preparation for dentures. I first entered my information via the 1-800 number and was declined. Thinking this had to be a mistake because of my very high Fico score, I reapplied via the website. Yes, also declined with a message that I would receive a written notice in 7-10 business days with the reasons. I phoned both Care Credit and Synchrony Bank but both representatives could offer no assistance. Unbelievable and very unhappy!!

I’ve had the Pep Boys credit card through Synchrony bank for a couple years. I made a large purchase which I paid off. Never had a missed it even late payment. I just received notification they closed my account posting several vague reasons such as “not enough real estate...” All of these reasons are the same as when I was approved for the card in the first place. I called customer service and was told there’s nothing they can do and the reason is in the letter I received. They couldn’t elaborate on the reasons at all. Would not recommend their services to anyone.
My credit decreased due to the closing of this account and actually put my credit into the next lower category. One of the reasons why I got this card was to help increase my credit after a messy marriage & divorce and note they’ve actually hurt it. Now my credit utilization and open accounts look worse than they should (for the record I’m at 17% utilization so it’s not like I was abusing my cards).

My Sam Ash credit card was cancelled with a PERFECT payment history. Crappy customer service and kept me on hold only to tell me nothing. They said they sent a letter of explanation.... No letter was received. Worst company ever.

This company uses predatory tactics in the middle of pandemic to impose 30% interest on people. Furthermore, they are breaking the law by charging service members 30% interest when the Service member relief Act caps interest at 9%. They use promotional interest rates to get people in the door and raise the interest to 30%. I was never warned. They hide it within the contract. Please beware. I called to get them to lower the interest rate and they laughed me off the phone.

I received a notification from my credit score monitor that Synchrony Bank closed my Discount Tire account and my score had decreased by 1 point. I called customer service and spoke with Jeff. He could not give me a reason for this and told me I should get a letter in the mail explaining it. I then escalated to manager Angela. She stated it was because I had a zero balance and no recent activity? I have a credit score in the 820's, and no debt. What a terrible explanation and even more terrible practice by Synchrony.
