If you are looking for a bank that has easy access to your money and values you as a client Synchrony Bank is probably not a good choice. Bought a car on Monday and the dealership wanted to be paid by check. Monday initiated an external transfer to Chase so that I could write a check. Transaction failed due to daily limit restrictions. Initiated another transaction for the daily limit amount.
Wednesday the remaining balance transfer does not appear so call Synchrony – speak to 2 different representatives and advised that until 1 transaction clears you cannot initiate another transaction. Thursday the initial transaction finally shows up at Chase. A week WOW. Everyone wants to wait a week for the partial amount.
Synchrony…where was my money for 48 hours? Are you floating money? When I do an external transfer from Chase to Synchrony the money is always there the next business day which is what I would expect in 2026 as this is a well-established account on both sides. Because in good faith I cannot ask the dealership to wait for 2 weeks to take delivery on the vehicle I was forced to have to pay for a wire transfer. Perfect time to also close the account permanently. Issue resolved! The rep could have cared less. Surprised but not surprised. It is not 1930 Synchrony….do better!

Bought a bed through a national brand with zero % interest for 5 years. Process to get into the account to setup auto payments was painful and not easy but got it done. First issue was the payment amount and the mattress company may have messed this up possibly as it was supposed to be $100/month but they ended up doing $200/mo instead. Wasn't a big deal but first issue.
Tried to get into the account February/March of this year and couldn't do it even with company assistance, so they said the best way to report the card as lost/stolen and they would issue a new card/account. Took them over 2 weeks to get me a card and by the time it got to me and getting logged in, it was after the payment due date and they tagged me for non payment and late payment charges. They wouldn't do anything about this other than forgive the late payment. One thing I did discover is they are charging interest on the whole amount even though my paperwork says 0% for 60 months. Going to fight this but the 0% seemed like a good deal and I should have just paid for the bed instead of using the bed company's good deal.

The Sam’s Club credit card issued by Synchrony Bank is not compatible with Apple Pay or Apple Wallet, which is highly frustrating. Synchrony Bank made a big deal in early 2025 to add many of their credit cards to Apple Pay, but as of March 2026, still not the Sam's Club credit card, causing this credit card to lag far behind the current technology and coveted convenience for card holders. Per customer service, there are no current plans to add this credit card to Apple Pay.
As if that wasn't bad enough, Synchrony Bank’s Sam's Club credit card has a ridiculous and inexplicable policy, which is infuriating and unacceptable. They will arbitrarily put a freeze on your account, meaning all charges will be rejected, at any time, for no reason, with no notice, no warning, no communication. We have never missed a payment, never paid late, and never exceeded the credit limit. We only found out that charges were being rejected because I received an email about a rejected payment from a utility company that had auto-pay set up with this credit card.
When we called customer service, they couldn’t give us a reason; they just said that the credit agreement says they can put a freeze on the account at any time, for any reason, and yet couldn’t provide what the reason was, they never notified us, and had no qualms whatsoever about this policy / customer service tactic, completely unapologetic, and would not remove the freeze. So, we had to scramble to figure out all of our automatic payments scheduled to pay with the Sam’s Club credit card for the next 10 days & manually pay all of those bills with another form of payment so we wouldn’t be late. Of course, this policy and customer service is unacceptable and horrendous.

Their policies in issuing 'branded' credit cards defies logic! My spouse has a Sam's Club credit card issued by Synchrony. As a small business owner, I am a long-time Sam's Club business member and my spouse is a 'complimentary' member. Rather than open up an entirely new credit card, we decided to contact the bank (Synchrony) to request an 'authorized user' credit card for me. Per Sam's and Synchrony, I am eligible to apply for/ receive a Sam's Club credit card. However, Synchrony DENIED the request for an authorized user card because I am the PRIMARY Sam's Club card-holder! Just how INANE is that?! They said to go to the Club to get this sorted out!
A manager at Synchrony blamed Sam's for the discrepancy, saying the refusal to issue authorized user cards is a Sam's policy -- that is highly doubtful! I think Synchrony is trying to needle people to open up more lines of credit with them! When we were on hold waiting for an agent, there was a recorded message asking if we wanted to give updated financial info to increase our credit line! Now I feel more inclined to kick Synchrony to the proverbial curb than I am to ask for any more credit from them! If it were possible to give them a Zero-Star review, I would!

They closed my account and couldn’t give me a good reason. Never missed a payment and was never delinquent. Had a new credit card from a different bank in 15 minutes, which had better rates and better rewards. In the end Synchrony did me a favor.

My Venmo credit card was denied and I got a text from Synchrony about verifying who I am. I responded that I wanted to resolve the problem and then received a phone call from a Synchrony phone center in India. They then sent me a link to do a video verification and and to send photos of my driver's license. The verification process seemed buggy and did not work. The video just kept recording and would not advance to the next step. The man on the phone said maybe the problem was our internet. I then tried turning off WiFi and then using cell service. Same result. Now I have to wait 7-10 days to get a letter from them.

I’ve had more than one instance with Synchrony and would suggest if there’s any other alternative you choose them. I paid my account on time and off yet still they lowered my credit usage. I’m guessing due to the fact that I didn’t use them anymore. Would highly recommend someone else. Poor Service for attributes.

Our Sam's club and jcp ccs have both experienced trouble with payments not being received, even with confirmation #s!!! It went so far as a fraudulent email sent forcing us to make ANOTHER PAYMENT. TWO PAYMENTS IN ONE MONTH!! Also had problems with Christmas gift cards never being received and still charged. Eric in customer service was of zero help...only escalating the stress for an 81-year-old man. Horrible experience.

Worst experience ever!!!! They ruin your credit!!!! After paying off my balance and never late kept on good standings always, they closed an account. The other They continually reduce your available credit. My husband's, They double charged his interest in large sums reduced his credit limit so it was less than balance owed. No latest, always paid on time. Mine was paid off and closed for no reason. Or just screws up your credit.

Synchrony Bank scammed me. I paid every bill on time despite not having access to an online account nor receiving paper statements. They gave me no visibility into my loan/payments despite numerous attempts. Right before the promo ran out for 0% APR, I contacted Synchrony asking why I was still being charged. They assured me if I continued to pay autopay, I would not accrue interest. This employee lied and I am now fighting to remove $3,000+ of interest and late fees. I will soon be filing a lawsuit. This company operates unethically and has scammed thousands of people.

I have several Synchrony credit cards and, up until now, my experience has been positive. I have been a loyal customer since 2012 with an excellent payment history. Recently, I experienced a medical hardship due to being hospitalized and then involved in a car accident. Because my funds were stretched thin, I called Synchrony to request permission to skip my April 2026 payment. The representative I spoke with told me the skip‑payment request was approved. However, the representative did not sound confident, so I proactively called back multiple times to confirm. Each time I reached another representative, I was told the skip‑payment request was not approved. If I had not triple‑checked, I would have been charged a late fee and reported to the credit bureaus for a late payment—despite being told I was approved to skip the payment.
This experience has made it clear that the information provided by Synchrony representatives is inconsistent and unreliable. Customers should not have to call multiple times to verify whether the information they were given is accurate, especially when it directly affects their credit standing. Synchrony should address the misinformation provided by its representatives.

I've had the Synchrony car care card for some time. I used it to repair my car at Meineke in Williamsburg Virginia, they're snakes too but that's another story. After repairing my car and spending thousands of dollars to do so I became very ill and any event I was unable to get up and walk around so I was unable to use the card so I paid it off completely which is a very large amount of money. They waited until after I paid the card off and closed out my account which messed my credit up. If I was to give anyone advice I would advise them not to use this card, not to apply for this card. They have no business closing out people's account due the lack of use on a credit card. They want you to spin up your money, they don't care if you have it or you don't have it, snakes.

I’ve had an extremely frustrating experience with Synchrony Bank, and I would not recommend them to anyone. I’ve consistently paid my balance on time every single month and even paid the account in full. Despite responsible usage and maintaining a solid credit score, my credit line was suddenly slashed down to $100 with no meaningful explanation. That kind of drastic reduction is completely unreasonable given my payment history and credit profile.
To make matters worse, I originally opened the account through an Amazon promotion. I was approved, used the card responsibly for about six months, and had zero issues—until out of nowhere, they reduced my limit and destabilized my account. No warning, no transparency, no justification that makes sense. This kind of behavior feels arbitrary and unfair. It punishes responsible customers instead of rewarding them. Actions like this can negatively impact credit utilization and overall financial stability, which is unacceptable from a financial institution. Because of this experience, I will be closing all of my accounts with Synchrony. I’ve completely lost trust in how they handle customer accounts and credit decisions. There are far better, more reliable banks out there that actually value their customers. Synchrony is not one of them.

On my eBay account, the auto pay failed. Called before due date and made a payment over the phone, she verified it was paid. I then had her set up auto pay and had her verify, she verified, auto pay failed, they informed me my account was closed because of three failed payment attempts. I called, explained and referred to the record, they said no, nothing can be done, my credit was hit hard. Second card with Amazon store card years later. My credit is solid, clean, no missed payments.
They out of the blue cut my limit to 25% stating bad credit score of 629 and a whole list of complete bogus claims of delinquent accounts and maxed out utilization which currently us at 4% across the board. I called and asked them what this was all about. Same as us6, we don't know anything, this is what we where told from the credit report. I go pull my credit report from the company that the statement pulled from. Score 100 points higher and nothing, no evidence of any of their claims. I can't risk all the work I put into cleaning up my credit, so I'm closing the account and I'll never go with them again.

I need to say something about my experience with Pep Boys and Synchrony Bank. I trusted Pep Boys to put tires on my vehicle, and the job was done incorrectly. Because of that, my family and I were put in a very dangerous situation that could have ended much worse. No one should have to worry about their safety after paying a company for a basic service like installing tires.
When I tried to dispute the issue through Synchrony Bank (the company behind the Pep Boys credit account), I explained exactly what happened and how serious it was, but the dispute was still denied. Businesses should stand behind the services they finance and the work being done. Safety should always come first. I’m sharing this so people are aware and think twice before trusting companies that don’t take situations like this seriously. #PepBoys #SynchronyBank #CustomerExperience #SafetyFirst

I had an Ashley credit card through Synchrony Bank. I always paid about 2 weeks before my payment was due. One month i was 2 days late and they charged me a 30 day late fee. I was so mad. I said I’ve never been late and the representative on the phone just said it’s in the contacts when I asked is this legal. I checked it out and yes they can do it. The only way I got in moved was I hit a number for a waive fee when I went to the automated system. The live person didn't even tell me you can get a one time waived fee. He was just gonna may me pay it. I said well I got one time and I paid the whole account off and immediately got the scissors out and cut that card up. Never get one of those cards. I'm through with them. Save yourself the surprise.

I paid Off my balance in January, 2026 which left a credit of 80.00. Instead of sending me a refund they added a interest charge of 18 dollars which dropped my credit to 69.00. Called on my February statement and they told me it was for December. I paid in full in January. I spoke to rep and did not agree it was from December. Asked to speak to Supervisor and he was very rude. Would not give me his name and hung up on me. I paid off because of high interest charges and they are still charging me interest. I had financed my washing machine a few years back and it was a promotional deal through ABC warehouse, I made all payments and never had any issues, I also had a care credit for my dental, which also got canceled, but due to my dentist not being able to schedule the appointment because of various problems, it was canceled, which I could understand, but forward to fall 2025 my refrigerator went out and I financed a new one also with a promotional deal of 0% interest until paid off, which I was making every payment as requested, but noticed that my account had some incurred interest a few times, but I didn't understand why?
Fast forward to February of this year, for some reason my min payment was returned for insufficient funds, which I'm still not sure how that happened due to the payment process having to come directly from my bank account, and the only account I have on file with Synchrony is my checking account, which if it doesn't have enough funds will not be able to be used as well as my savings account, and I usually get a notification from my bank, so once I contacted the customer service, which was terrible to say the least, I was told because of the one missed payment that they are able to close the account....
However if I would have been contacted by them I would have made arrangements to get it resolved, but I didn't get any notification from them of this, only my online account statement showed, which was not helpful as to what had happened... I had also inquired about why a promotion with 0% interest that was still active, was being charged interest prior to the transaction of insufficient payment, and I could not get that answered by the customer service representative....
I am still trying to get the money to pay this off, and with them closing my account and my credit score being decreased by over 100 points, I am going to be filing complaints with the proper organization to try to resolve the issue and get some information on what my legal rights are... I informed the customer service that they have caused their own issues by canceling my account, as I was planning on paying the balance off once my tax return money was available... but I was also going to be taking out a personal loan to pay off other debt I have to avoid interest and other fees, but because of their action of closing the account and affecting my credit score, I don't have the options from the lending companies I once had due to this cancelation...
I am very unhappy and upset about this situation, I have had a good credit standing with all my accounts and never have I dealt with this type of issue with any other credit card company or banking institution... I will never again use this bank or finance any other items from any company that uses this company in the future for such business... I will also be contacting ABC Warehouse to share with them my experience and feedback about this situation, and may not ever purchase anything from them again unless it's a non financed purchase....

I was given false information by a Synchrony Bank representative who assured me that no fees would be charged when using my credit card in Canada. I trusted this statement and was later charged $514.45 in fees. What followed was months of complete incompetence. I spoke with countless managers, none of whom could explain or resolve the issue. I had to repeat the same information over and over again. A dispute was opened four times, each time requiring a three-month wait, only to end with the same generic rejection letter stating that my case could not be resolved. This is not a policy issue — it is a professional failure. Employees provide incorrect information, management takes no responsibility, and the customer pays the price. I have lost all trust in Synchrony Bank.

Plus, I did not get a usable product online, and they haven't investigated it. HR Block Business tax software gave an unusable code, and HR Block customer service said the code was unusable. Absolutely awful. My wife and I have used them to help finance our furniture through Furniture Land South in North Carolina. We only decided to work with them because their was a promotion for interest free financing for the first 6 months of payments. We gradually paid things off over the time of the promotional period. At the time of the last month of the promotion where things would have been paid in full ,we had an interest charge that was MORE THAN DOUBLE the remaining amount on the bill ($628). I conversed with someone in their department who was able to remove the interest charge after I paid the remaining amount...HOWEVER...they did not remove the interest charge in time so I received a LATE FEE of $28..
Then, after they couldn't remove the late fee and I PAID the late fee, this month I was charged ANOTHER interest fee of $33. The representative Sophie **, said she could not help me remove this interest even though it was their screw up in the first place AND I paid THEIR late fee on time. Whatever they can do to squeeze as much out of you to make an extra buck. Will NEVER be using them again. Punishing people who are doing right by paying their bills off in a promotion that they set, just to trap them into paying more.
