I will no longer be a Synchrony Bank customer. After being a loyal customer for years, they have closed all my accounts. I Always pay on time, keep my balances low, and have a credit score of 755. I have given them absolutely no reason to believe I'm a "high risk ", which is the reason they stated for the closure of my accounts. So after years of loyalty to them this is how it ends, by them ruining my credit score. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, the FTC and contacting my congressman. If you're looking for a reputable credit card company, synchrony bank is not one of them. I would avoid them at all costs!

They don't provide online CLOSING instructions but continuing business on their CD LINE. Not even to closing and transfer to an account within their business lines. Took me 30 minutes to place that instruction through phone, through 3 support posts (last in the country!) with their system not being able to send a text to the mobile I was calling from. Nor they were able to send text to a VOIP alternate number that is text capable. In the end they called and provided the security code to the same voice line I was calling. The overseas support has no training for retention and therefore don't work hard to satisfy the customer. I promised I'll write this review with the intent to direct others not to do this business with them. From personal practical experience, do it when rates are better with Ally, Marcus, Merrick, PurePoint.

Outrageous interest rates! This card balance will never get paid off as balance is overtaken by excessive interest charges. This is a type of card that should only be used for medical or veterinary or dental emergencies for large amounts and not allowed to accrue. Pay off quickly.

This bank constantly pushes for electronic transactions ONLY. They want to send only electronic statements, receive electronic payments, and use only electronic messaging whenever possible. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why. It's a numbers game - all and only about their bottom line. This month I did not receive my electronic statement (probably my fault) so what does this electronic emphasis only company do when my payment was late? You guessed it; they locked me out of my account so I could not review the statement unless I first paid over the phone. Let me see if I got this correct, electronic statement was not available, the wizards running the customer service refused to allow me access to the statement UNLESS I first paid a bill I have yet to see. I am not a happy camper!

They sent to this ** site for some verification. I had to repeat some steps many times (pictures of me, picture of an ID and and video of me). At the end the message said they couldn't make the verification and they would send a letter in the mail. Understand that my FICO Score is in the 800's. I call back to the bank and after being on hold for a long while they gave me the same message about a letter in the mail.

I used Synchrony to finance half the value of a furniture set I purchased. They offered a 0% interest rate as long as I paid it off within a year. Awesome! Once I paid down most of what I owed - they cut my 'credit limit' in half leaving only $30 of available credit. When I called they said they will mail a letter explaining. I never used the credit, nor did I ever authorize my card for future purchases. I always paid a lot more than the minimum. Lowering my credit limit by 50% makes it look like I have a MAXed out card ignoring the $700 I already paid!! You are no use to them once they realize you are paying down your debt early.

This bank and the customer service over the phone is very unsatisfying. I could be having a great day and get on the phone with these people and turned my whole day to crap. They don't know what they're talking about. They lie and that is the number one thing I wanna point out. They lie and I don't trust people who lie especially with my personal information. And it was just a simple lie but I caught it and it made me very uneasy to say the least.

I had a card through Synthetic Bank for See Eyewear. I had been using it often and paying it without fail. Each purchase I make at see eyewear using the card is interest free for 6 months. I paid the balance off at the end of May and yesterday when I tried to purchase eyeglasses the card declined because they closed my account without warning. This is the 2nd time they have done this. THEY SUCK!!! Leave synthetic bank alone. They claimed my credit score dropped significantly. I immediately check my score using Credit Karma and it showed my score had increased by 70 points. Unfortunately this company is not fair in their practice. I paid off the exact amount that was shown on the payoff screen to another card to consolidate my debt. Synchrony did not honor the payoff amount they had on my account page. This company is saying I owe them late fees of $200 although the payoff amount on my account page was $1921 (I have a screenshot). It is disgusting that during a pandemic they continue to assess late fees even though I have emailed them about not working and they still insist on adding late fees. The amount of the actual purchase was over $7,000 and they have received all the money for their merchandise and more. Their response back to my email is that it will take 2 months or 20 days to respond meanwhile my credit score is being affected every billing cycle. DO THE RIGHT THING SYNCHRONY!!

I opened a Lowe's credit card in March 2020. I purchased kitchen cabinets ($10k) on March 12 and they were delayed until June 25 due to COVID-19. Synchrony delayed my payment the 1st month, the 2nd month they delayed my payment and the interest charge, the 3rd month (did not receive cabinets yet), Synchrony denied any payment delays and charged the interest. They stated that the previous two months were an error and are not responsible for what a rep says to customers. I escalated the complaint and went round & round to the same reps. I wrote a letter to their Florida PO box. They replied by email today with a link which opens to their reply... of course, the link does not function, "Check back later!" Next step is to report them to the credit bureau and then an attorney.

I have had Synchrony Bank for about 5 years. I have a $5000 credit (between both cards). I have never been late on a payment and never had a high balance. I was furloughed this summer from work due to Covid and because I didn’t receive unemployment, I utilized my Capitol One credit card more than I wanted to. My credit took a small ping and went down due to all these conditions. Because of this credit change, Synchrony bank took it upon themselves to close one of my accounts and lowered my credit to what I owe on my other account which is a furniture card.
Really no ones business but now I’m back to work and trying to close on my house.... They pulled my credit report on the closing day and my credit score was down drastically due to them closing my card and lowering my credit limit on the other one and making my credit to earnings ratio go down!! I was denied! Not because of late payments or derogatory accounts but because my available credit was about $4000 less than it was 3 weeks ago and it dropped my credit score.
This is crap and I feel like Synchrony could have waited until after this whole pandemic thing was over before you started playing God to other people’s lives. Especially your customers who haven’t done anything wrong. This company must be hurting for money so, now that I got denied my house, I will use a part of my down payment to pay off this stupid Synchrony credit card’s $1100 balance. What a terrible way to show your faithful customers how much you care... Shoot someone’s dream down. Shame on you! I will never refer anyone to you again.

Today I ran into two horrid experiences, first one I found out a huge fraud charge to my account that was never even used or registered to my shock. The second one was just as unpleasant when attempting to communicate with their representatives who are disrespectful and unwilling to fulfill one very small request once the report was filed. I was informed (once again) they resort to using lousy USPS snail mail in the distant future to send me the follow up details when all I asked for was for the purpose of my call today, they at least email me (or text) just a summary of what they did (or CLAIMED) to do... such as close the account and zero out the charge while they take their time to investigate the fraud claim.
EVERY person I talked is like speaking with a robot, they simply claim and refuse to send an email confirmation or text because they "cannot". This is a common tactic and practice in so many areas. Even when asking for a confirmation or case number they make it abundantly clear they CANNOT. What it really means is they WILL not. So I have to swallow their B.S. with their verbal promises they carried out things on their end but I the customer have no right to at least get a simple email because more than likely their legal department has this all wrapped up due to their own "liability". So it's win-win for the bank bullies?
I feel this is an illegal practice that needs immediate investigation with these crooked banks and provide the customers with decency and respect by providing us with a tangible transcript after the conversation instead of having to "take their word for it". Beware. Remember these people who answer the phones are simple clerks with absolutely no skill or professional training and sadly it shows.

I recently tried to apply for a Lowe's Home Improvement credit card which is through Synchrony Bank. After giving the cashier the application information, she reported back that the application was denied. After several hours of sitting on hold or being transferred I was able to talk to a bank representative about the application. She informed me that it was not denied that they just needed to verify some more information. I was sent to a verification website where they captured my picture and a picture of the front and back of my drivers license. (Not sure what they were verifying my identity with - what databases would have my picture and my drivers license photo).
After all of this I was approved for $500. I have a credit score of over 850. I have other credit cards with Synchrony that are in excellent standing. When I asked why all the verification and difficulty for $500 - the agent told me it was because I had Identify Protection. Yes I do and I still question how the additional verification was going to actually verify I was who I said I was. It was all done with a cell phone. If they needed to verify my identify would not it have been better to ask the cashier to verify that my ids (drivers license and military ID) matched who was standing in front of them. Very confusing process. I cancelled all my Synchrony Bank accounts.

I have had the Amazon Prime Store Card offered by Synchrony Bank for the past few years. I have made a few late payments but always stayed caught up. If you miss your scheduled payment by 2 days, their account representatives in India call and harass you, even call you at your place of business forcing you to "promise" to pay and select a date. I'm not sure why they have this nervous habit but recently was the final straw when I was late by one day and they punitively lowered my credit limit by 500.00 as soon as I paid the card down to 100.00 balance left in one sitting.
DO NOT use these swindlers for anything or do business with their terrible company. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with a 100.00 account where the customer "service" harasses you every 5 minutes, but I'll probably close it completely. After 5 months of not buying anything else, they reduced my credit limit to $200. This hurt my credit score some but I didn't mind. I decided to buy a blanket from Lovesac, pay it off and see if it would help. It didn't.

My experience stems from erroneous charges discovered in my card. Although the company reversed some but left a couple out. Despite numerous calls to their customer service along with online messages and live chat, nothing has been resolved and the following summarizes the major issues: Online message is totally useless; I had to reiterate my problem each time and only received standard replies mostly. I did receive a couple of actual "live" replies but without result. Chat is mostly answered by robot. Did get through on couple of occasions but had to wait for transfer to CS and ended up with no result as above. Call live customer service several times and was told that there was no outstanding balance every time but online statement still shows the disputed balances and the CS people I talked to said they don't understand either and concluded that there is nothing they can do!?!?
Moving forward, I have been moved overseas now for several months and could not even follow up as the international number featured on the card does not work!!! I did mention this in my online messages but still have not received an answer to this issue to date. This has been going on now for over 6 months without resolution !!! While past due and late fees charges continue to accrue. I have decided just to pay it off and take the loss in order to avoid further frustration and will never get a card from Synchrony. This is a real shame as this company took over from GE Credit which had a stellar reputation. This may be an isolated incidence and difficulty compounded by the fact that I live overseas but to be fair I have never experienced this level of ineptitude and poor customer service and I hope that other cardholders never to encounter this....Buyers Beware!!!!

As like a lot of others consumers, I too had a Musicians Friend credit card canceled on me with a zero balance because I hadn't used it in a while! That's too bad for Musicians Friend, because I will shop elsewhere. The reason I'm upset with Synchrony is with my Care Credit Card. I've had this card for years and only used it for Medical because they have a promotional 0% interest on purchases over $200. This where its gets tricky! They changed the card to a Mastercard and they don't tell you that you have to pay a MEDICAL BILL only on their website!!! Otherwise they will charge you 25.99%!!!! They will not help with changing it to a 0% interest, even when you can prove it was for a MEDICAL bill! I'm not going to wait for them to cancel this card. I'm getting rid of it myself!!!

Nothing but trouble and stress to be honest. Sure, they gave me credit which was very helpful for some business related things earlier on, but they closed my account for what I consider to be a very poor reason. Little to no missed payments, and during this pandemic, they decide to close my account for having a high number of accounts and lack of real estate. These are reasons you may get denied an account, but not one taken away. Of course it's our responsibility to review what we're signing up for and we agree to letting them do this, but it is common knowledge that missed payments, delinquency and lack of usage are your typical reasons for an account closure, not these nitpicked reasons they strung together to try and justify my account closure. To take advantage of ethics like this during a worldwide pandemic and mess with loyal customers' livelihoods is despicable. I plan to never use synchrony again in the future.

Bottom line: do not use any credit cards issued by Synchrony Financial because they use dishonest/bad faith/illegal practices so that they can charge you as many fees and as much interest as possible, even if you proven yourself a responsible client. I charged $400 to this card at the standard interest rate expecting to pay it off in full that month. Unfortunately, I had several charges of varying amounts totaling $2200 under their 6 months deferred interest plan -- I spread the payments out over 6 months and always pay off each charge in full before the interest accrued over 6 months can be tacked on to the original charge.
For months now, I have paying the amount specified in my electronic statement from Synchrony Bank as the "amount to avoid Standard and Deferred Interest" expecting that my payment will be used to pay off both the Deferred Interest charge that is coming due that month as well as the $400 charged months ago at the standard interest rate. Instead, the payment is applied to any amounts in the Deferred Interest column and any *accrued interest* from the Standard Interest charges before it can be applied to the *actual charges* in the Standard Interest column.
The result is that payments I have submitted have gone to paying off charges that are not accruing interest and the approximately $9.00 per month of interest that the evidently untouchable $400 charge continues to accrue. I cannot pay off the $400 that accrues interest until I pay off the non-interest accruing $2200 in charges. I feel trapped in the Sisiphying task of paying not insignificant quantities every month while being unable to apply my payment to the amount in my bill that *does* accrue interest.
This practice is exactly opposite of nearly all other banks/credit cards/loans that apply your payments, first to amounts loaned at the highest interest rates, and then to the next -- in decreasing order. There are multiple problems here: first, the "amount required to avoid Standard and Deferred Interest" stated in my statement is nearly always incorrect; and second, nowhere is it specified in what order my payments will be applied, meaning if you simply apply the sum of payment and credits to the sum of all previous balances plus new charges, the accounting will *appear* proper.
The standard practice, in my experience with Chase/Citi/Capital One, is to divvy the amounts owed based on applicable interest and then to apply payments to the order of highest interest first. This rather unorthodox practice of accounting is undoubtedly by design; it is untransparent at best and outright thievery at worst. Attorneys: do we have the grounds for a class action suit here? From the extraordinary number of complaints here, it appears that Synchrony Bank has been engaging in intentionally injurious behavior on many levels that requires serious redress. I intend to inquire further and will post updates here.

My experience with Synchrony credit cards was horrible. They are the worst and not worth opening credit with them their customer service and whatever algorithm they use to bill and serve as a creditor is hurting their business in the long run. I held five of their cards from gas to various retailers and never was late on one payment until recently during the pandemic. Late literally 1 payment and They acted as if they were going to help by waiving to defer a payment and all they did was reported on the credit report as late and then had the Odessa D to shut down four of my accounts because of one payment and one card had two payments correction late but I eventually paid them and was on track and they still close with no explanation.
It’s absolutely ridiculous and a testament to how horrible the company they are in their business practices make no sense and when you contact customer service forget it. You’re speaking to someone in a different country who could care less because they’re reading off a script about why this could even happen to someone who health credit with perfect Credit for nearly 2 years without one single payment late. What a waste of time building your credit up with these cards for them to properly cancel them which ruins your credit report even more as closed accounts that were paid either fully or paid on time and just missing one payment which of that is a valid explanation because of the pandemic.
It’s disgusting business practices and they should be shut down for ruining people's credit history for no reason when they have paid their bills. Even if someone had been late two times that is not a justification to do anything like shutting down accounts when other creditors which I have plenty of them worked out payments and still reported the correct information and didn’t close down my accounts. What is wrong with these people at SYNCHRONY. Do they not want business? What idiots!!!

The next experience I had with them was when they sent me a notice they were closing my Target store card because it had a $0 balance on it. I immediately bought something, paid for it with the card and managed to keep the card open, though who knows for how long with this company.
Finally, I opened a dispute through them for something I was overcharged for, and sent them all of the specifics, including the web page showing the price I should have been charged, and explained that due to the supposed COVID-19 "pandemic" the store was not answering customer phone calls and not responding to emails. I got an email from the company about 2 weeks later saying the bank that issued my credit card had removed the payment, essentially indicating the dispute had been resolved in my favor. When I called Synchrony, I was told it would take 60 days to resolve a dispute. When I explained the dispute had already been resolved, I was told again that it would take Synchrony 60 days to resolve a dispute. No matter how many time I explained that I had been notified that Synchrony had already reversed the charges, I was told it would take them 60 days to resolve the dispute.
It's been just over 7 weeks now, 56 days, and the balance on my account still has not been adjusted. When I contacted Synchrony Customer Service and explained the store notified me 5 weeks ago that the charge had been reversed by Synchrony, that there was only a few days left in the 60 day timeframe Synchrony claims to resolve disputes within, I was told they don't resolve disputes for 60 days, and no balance adjustments are made until 60 days have passed. Apparently though, they don't want you to use your card because I see the same complaints everywhere and I didn't listen and I would do anything to go back and never have opened this account.
I know that they are notorious about this but I just experienced it myself. I had been using half of the limit and making payments. I had a planned date and was saving up while making minimum payments so that I could pay it all off within a month. While making payments on time, they first cut my balance by half so, all of a sudden, I only had $50 left as a limit on the card and my utilization skyrocketed to 90%.
They could give me no reason for this as my credit score was higher than when I first got the card and I know my payment history. My credit went down 40 points because of this immediately. Because they did this and destroyed my credit overnight, I went ahead and pushed up my plan to pay it off and I did so. I went from a $1,500 balance to a $50 balance in a 60-day period of time.
I was so excited! They were mad that I used the card and punished me and now they punished me because I paid it off. I just found out that they lowered my balance by $1,000 to $500. This is $2,500 less than when I opened the card and my credit score was 150 points lower. I don't care what climate we're in, I never asked for payment arrangements or help and I paid every payment on time and the one time I paid a day late I paid the late fees. How can they do this and it be legal? There is no reason for them to take another thousand dollars for my limit. I'm scared to pay the card off because I know from the other people that this is happened to, and my experience has went like clockwork to that, that is soon as you pay your balance off they cancel your card.
How in the world is it fair when you make payments on time every month and they punish you for it and they are able to destroy everything you've worked for for The Last 5 Years? This limit decrease came right after I requested a limit increased to try to get some of the initial $3,000 limit back. I had a medical expense that I was going to use half of the balance again but of course now I'm going to use cash.
How are they not being investigated by the attorney general or whoever regulates these people? This is not a lone occurrence. Their horrible customer service will tell you nothing and they save it something that's on your credit report is the reason yet I have 30 months of on-time payments, back when I first started building my credit. So don't tell me that you found something on my credit because you didn't. This is what you do to everyone and I don't understand why. How do you make any money if people don't use your card and when they do use your card, you cut their limit in half for using the card and when they pay you on time you get your fees. How is this good business? And how are they getting away with this? Just look at the reviews.. They do this to everyone!

I have been a Synchrony Bank customer for several years with their credit cards and a savings account with over $20,000.00. Synchrony closed 9 of my credit card accounts due to being a poor risk. 2 were Mastercards with the other 7 being store specific. My credit score is over 700 and I have never, every made a late payment on any of the accounts. The total available credit on those accounts was $62,500 and my outstanding balance on the 9 cards totals $928.56 for a 1.49% credit usage rate. I was just issued the Ebay Mastercard 2 months ago and they now closed it. 8 of the 9 cards have had credit line increased in the last 60 days. My Lowe's card had 3 credit line increases in the last 60 days. I have requested numerous times for a possible increase in the Amazon card limit and was always denied. In the last 60 days my Amazon card was awarded a credit line increase by Synchrony.
Several of these cards were issued when I was a college student and I now make almost 3 times the money I did when those cards were issued. I pose no credit risk to them whatsoever. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I hope many other people do the same because it sounds like there are many other people like me. I am also hoping for a class action lawsuit against Synchrony!!!

We had 3 Synchrony cards for Old Navy, Ashley Furniture, Discount Tire. We have never been late, never maxed out the cards. Within 2 months of getting the Old Navy card at $500 line of credit, they lowered it to $300. I had only used $100 and paid it off and didn’t use it any longer. I was upset. They lowered it for no reason and it hurts your credit. Then we get a letter stating they closed our discount tire card after we had paid off a 200 balance! Then a day later they cut our $7000 credit line with Ashley furniture down to the balance of $4800! Their reason is because we just bought a house in December and they said our balance on Real estate loan is too high and not been paid down fast enough! We just bought the house! We called and they could care less. Our credit score is going to drop and this seems to be allowed. We all need to do something.

I was attempting a pay by phone payment. The phone was answered with a message that said do to Covid19 wait times could be much longer than usual. After approximately a 5 minute wait I was allowed to begin the process of my payment. Unfortunately their system was not able to correctly identify my Bank account number. It could not gather the entire bank account numbers. I tried several times to make the payment but again I was unable to do so because of the failure of there system to correctly recognize my bank account number.
Their lines for payment are only open until 9:00 pm est. & time had run out for me to get a customer service representative. Since it was the last day to make my payment I knew I would now be charged a penalty fee of $40 a 20% charge for being 12 hours late. I knew I would be late and if It hadn’t been for their inabilities I would not be complaining; In fact in the past I had paid the penalty.
I called immediately the next morning and after waiting 18 minutes was finally able to get a bank representative. She was polite and when I explained my situation she said she didn’t have the ability to wave the penalty fee. I said I understand & could I please speak to supervisor. She said sure and transferred me to a rep named Susan who said that there was nothing she could do and proceeded to lecture me that I should not wait till the last minute to pay my bill. I thought that was my decision, silly me. Once again I went up the ladder to another supervisor this time to a very rude Erika who after listening to my situation said you should not have waited until the last minute to make a payment.
Again not taking into account her company’s shortcomings. It’s on record that I was willing and trying to pay on time. She didn’t care. I then asked for her supervisor. She proceeded to put me on hold for almost 20 minutes only to get back to tell me her supervisor would call me back today. Guess what no return call. All this “we are here to help during this trying time” rhetoric is BS.

All my Synchrony Bank credit cards (Amazon, Rakuten, PayPal) are variable rate cards but they did not reduce my APR after prime rate went down in March. The following info applies to all three of my synchrony bank credit cards but I am going to use my amazon card statement to quote their definition of a variable rate credit card (as follows): "If a (v) is shown after your apr in the interest charge calculation section of this billing statement, the apr is a variable rate and will vary with the market based on the prime rate". That is very clear and easy to understand. However, at no time has synchrony bank reduced my apr on any of my credit cards (amazon, rakuten, or paypal).
The prime rate was reduced on March 4th by 50 basis points and then again by 100 basis points on march 17th. Synchrony refuses to reduce my apr -- even though their own statements clearly state that my apr is based upon the prime rate (see quotation above from amazon statement for example). All my synchrony credit cards show a (v) for variable rate after the apr percentage being charged. So, either synchrony bank is deliberately engaged in fraud because they do not have "variable rate" credit cards (despite what their credit card statements state explicitly) or they are using some incomprehensible new definition of the word "variable". I note, for the record, that all my other variable rate cards did reduce my apr no later than my April billing statements.
To all potential synchrony bank customers: Do not apply for or accept their credit card offers because they are not variable rate cards despite what they show on their billing statements, i.e. (v) after apr rate shown as being charged.

I called them this morning and I am told that I do not meet their new guidelines. I met their guidelines just fine until I lost one job and got another within a week. This bank will blame you for any issues related to online. Their auto pay ALWAYS had issues and would never stay active. After talking to a rep about the issue in Aug 2019, they told me to rest assure that everything is all set up with the auto pay and that I would not have to worry about it again because they set it all up. So I thought ok. I made them put it in the notes that that was said and done with regarding the auto pay.
Throughout the year I was also sending $100 on top of what I assumed was being taken out. Come to find out my balance is still around the same from when I started sending payments! They said that the auto pay was canceled the next month and that since I happened to have signed on the same day it was canceled, then I must have canceled it. Why would I cancel it!! So now there are late fees that have accrued and they throw their hands up and say they can’t do anything about it. They are thieves. I want nothing to do with Synchrony. I have never experienced something like this in my life. All I can do is try to help others out and warn them.

Updated on 6/2/2020: A couple weeks ago, I submitted my review regarding ALL my Synchrony accounts. A total of 16 accounts all in excellent standing were closed on the same day. Never late and always paid above the minimum payments every month. Synchrony even closed out the accounts with zero balances most recently paid off (which I never maxed out any of my accounts). I received my first letter of explanation as to why? This letter pertains to my Car Credit Account which has been open less than 6 months. I used the card for tire services on my vehicle recent with a balance of $226. The letter indicates:
After review of your account, Synchrony Bank has decided to close your account. The reason(s) for our decision are listed below:
* No recent Activity on this account. (FALSE Statement, I recent activity from services done on my car.)* Number of months since last purchase oh this account. (Just of 30 days since using this account to service my vehicle.)
This is all false and inaccurate information. Synchrony has ruined my credit score and I was a responsible paying customer on time, every time and all my accounts closed. I will post every letter I receive on each account as I receive them.
Original review: I am single father raising two daughters. I lost my wife in 2012 to ALS. Over the past 7 years, I have worked tirelessly to improve my credit for several factors. I purchased a home just last year. I was very fortunate to have a solid debt to income ratio. I have or had 15 credit card accounts all issued through Synchrony Bank. As far as I was concerned, I have been a loyal customer with an impeccable payment history and never ever late.
On May 28, 2020, less than 10 hours ago. I learned that all my accounts with Synchrony Bank has been closed. This includes my accounts that I have paid off with a zero balance. This will now reflect utilization at its max and my credit score severely impacted. I spoke to a Synchrony bank representatives this morning on one of my accounts, recently opened and only carrying a balance under $200. When I ask why this and 14 other accounts were closed, she said that TransUnion reported information on my credit report that cause all my accounts to close.
I called TransUnion and spoke to a CSR and he indicated that TransUnion does not close a customer account. In fact, based on his records, he was showing most of the accounts were still open. I confirmed and reconfirmed that all my accounts are closed. He suggested that I file a dispute in an effort find out why Synchrony did what they did. There must be something I can do or resources I can contact for assistance. This should not be happen to people taking responsibility and making payments on time and working hard to improve their credit history. If anyone has any guidance, please post!

I spoke with another supervisor, Dwight, and he was argumentative and rude, and refused to give me a ticket number to escalate my concerns and he hung up on me. Paid on time and always over the minimum payment. Now I am checking my cards and within the past week they have closed them all for no reason and didn't notify me. This screws up my credit score. If they had sent out an email stating why they were doing this before they did this - I would have a heads up. Now I am royally pissed. I will never give Synchrony Bank/Financial a good review. The closed credit cards are Care Credit, Mavis, Sam's Club (personal and business), and one other card.
Synchrony Bank/Financial is doing the same thing to me. Never been late and always pay more than the minimum. I have 5 out of 8 credit cards with Synchrony Bank. Synchrony Bank bout out the companies that I had my credit cards with. Now in 2 weeks without notice they have closed all 5 of the credit cards that I had with them.
I got on the phone with Synchrony Bank Customer Service. It all boiled down to Synchrony Bank getting a review from Transunion. That review caused my accounts to be shut down with Synchrony. Synchrony told me that they don't have info on a house mortgage or car payments. They are not going to because I paid cash on my house and cars. There is no reason for them to know that if I own my house and cars outright. My next step is to speak with TransUnion Credit report. So wish me luck. Maybe all of this is a blessing in disguise. I am going to pay off all my credit card accounts and tell them where to go.

This company does not even deserve 1 star, it would be a negative 5!, but you can't post the review without rating it. I must say that I was not surprised when I sought a venue to voice my disdain with this company and the unfair, uncaring, & simply downright cruelty to loyal, hardworking & responsible debtors & then read reviews that others had been treated the same as me by this monster called Synchrony.
I was, however, shocked that they even closed people's account that had stellar credit & took a unnecessary hit to their credit score because of this thoughtless practice of just closing people's accounts. Unlike me at the present, I don't have the credit score that I had when I was approved for the account, but I paid Synchrony on time every month & rarely used the Car care card, very sparingly. When they took over accounts from GE credit, I had a $1800 credit limit, once Synchrony took over, all they did was continually drop my limit, which was hurtful & somewhat condescending because they make you feel like you are not worthy of their credit card, even though I made every effort to pay them on time every month & had never used the credit card up to the allowable limit, but nevertheless was still glad that I had some use of the card in emergency situations, even though limit was dropped to $600.
I sent them a scathing email about their callous practices & was amazed that some of the exact verbiage I said to them is what customers have said in reviews on this website, it's sad & shameful, especially during this pandemic. I further said that they don't have the class, integrity & empathy like Capital One, who shows more appreciation for their longtime loyal customers. I am so glad they took over the Walmart account, or Synchrony would have closed that one too! I further said that I have multiple accounts with Capital One, & when my credit score dropped for various reasons, etc. they have never dropped my credit limit, one card still has maintained a $3000 limit.
Synchrony acts like a animal on the prowl & catches their prey unexpectedly & devours them!! Obviously, this company is on their way down with their very cold & heartless ways, so good riddance!!! Please!! Capital One, remain as you are towards your customers & to any other banks, DO NOT sell out to Synchrony, they are not for the consumer, they only think about themselves!!

First off, I didn’t enroll for this card. My dentist did on my behalf which in hindsight I should have been far more critical of this enrollment. Nonetheless, Synchrony's first scam is to auto enroll you into a 30 dollar protection program. It is something that is free with any other credit card I have ever had. It does nothing and furthermore if you have any other major credit cards they will include this for all your accounts most of the time. I had no idea about this charge until 3 months in. When I called the company they told me the protection was through a third party and they could not refund this. I immediately told them to unenroll me. They wouldn’t even remove the fee on the current statement.
This company will do whatever it takes to put in fees. I pay more than double my statement amount on three different synchrony cards every single month. With the exception for one month on the Care credit card during the covid pandemic. They did not send me a statement and I will say it is my responsibility to be mindful of the due date. With everything going on during covid I realized the payment was late, four days late, and they slapped on a 30 dollar fee. Though I still am in disagreement that I even was late as I always pay them on the 24th yet for this month they are claiming it was due by the 20th.
I have a 200 balance on one card and two others with 0. I diligently paid them for years, never missing a payment and during a pandemic paid four days late on one card. This company does whatever they can to take any opportunity to charge you money you don’t owe. I have contacted them with no resolution as of yet. Stay away. Finance with any other company.

I had never paid the minimum, but instead always paid a couple hundred more than the minimum requested each month. My card balance went from 1,800 to 700 in 6 months...not too bad, well over half paid. So I get to the 700, but get a bill for 796. I expected to pay interest and finance charges - but $96, in one month!? HA! In 40 years and countless accounts - I have never encountered a figure like this, anywhere.
After calling, stating my case, and looking for some type of assistance/help (especially being temporarily laid off from work due to Coronavirus), I was met with, "Well that's the charge since the promotion ended, but if I can pay the full balance they can be of assistance with a minimum discount." If that statement wasn't so outrageous, it would be laughable. I wasn't even looking for a deferment or lower monthly lower payment, I was just inquiring for a courtesy reversal of a bogus $96.00 highway robery charge. Nope. Additionally, and I almost have to laugh again at this point - they reduced my card limit by over $1000.00.
As soon as I pay the balance on this scam that wears the image as a help, I will be closing this account, immediately. My "worst" credit card isn't this bad, lol! Definite eyeopener. We might have to move in a few months if her business doesn't pick up again. We barely make rent as it is. All of my other creditors worked with me, even the one who was initially reluctant (Mercury Card). But not Synchrony. For the entire month of March and up to mid April I couldn't get in touch with anyone. This resulted in my April 5 and April 8 payments for the Amazon Prime and Toys R Us cards being late. On April 15, I was told that if I paid $72 on each of them - this is DOUBLE what I normally pay on each of them - she would waive the late fees and the accounts would be current. I used my stimulus check and paid them.
Lo and behold this was a flat out lie from the customer service person. The Toys R Us card generated another payment of $38 that I was expected to pay, which I did, even though I needed the money for other bills. The Amazon card never generated another payment that I was aware of. And then I logged in to check the account yesterday and was met with $100 minimum due - basically 2.5 times the normal minimum payment. They also added on another late fee. Reviewed my score while I was on the phone with the representative and the actual score was much higher than he claimed. I was then transferred to another person that claimed my card closure was due to my payment history with Synchrony. I had the card for over a year the card has had a $0 balance for over a few months and all payments had been paid on time or ahead of time. Every payment I made I either paid the card off or paid double the due amount for the month. So no way it was due to bad payment history with Synchrony.
I was later informed by another representative that if I wanted to dispute the card closure I would have to dispute it with Transunion because they were responsible for the closure. Apparently, your customers are not "amazing" as you claim. I have been a cardholder with you for almost 1 year and you abruptly shut out my Old Navy account because 2 payment was returned. I guess you guys want to be cold and heartless during this COVID pandemic. I hold multiple Synchrony accounts and to be tossed like trash is not cool. I am on the phone right now with a representative and they even said I had a good payment history and don't understand. They charge late fees and that isn't sufficient enough. They punish the customer and shut the account out completely. They said they could not reopen the account. I would need to reapply. I told them I would never reconsider reapplying with them. I may go ahead a shut out my other accounts with them. I despise Synchrony Bank and do not trust them to meet my financial needs.

Unfortunately, being a good customer, having automated payments does not count at all. I have a good credit and I have never received a call from anyone not even an email telling me that apparently there was a returned payment. They have stated that if 2 payments are returned they will close your account and sure they did without even letting me know there was a returned payment nor that the account will be closed. Yet, I have paid them every month from the account I have set up for automated payments which has been deducted every month as per my bank statement and I have the evidence from my bank.
I had to call 5 times to find someone in my 4th and 5th call to help me. You can submit a complaint to an Orlando FL address which Is where I’ll start and then I am reporting them to the FDIC. I have never had a situation like this. I was in the middle of buying a house and I have lost my opportunity because the company does not communicate with the costumers at all... I’ll be sending them evidence of my phone calls record showing that I have called in and no comments were even recorded of my conversation from their employee.
When I called in and the lady said everything was good in my account while her kid was screaming in the background which I can understand because due to the COVID-19 most of us are working from home... Next thing I learn through an Experian notification is the account was closed by the grantor. Thank you synchrony for limiting your customers to the point you have messed a big purchase such as a home.
Customers, I have good credit and I highly do not recommend you to get a Lowe’s card. The last 2 representatives were really helpful but 1 manager even hanged up the call. Another one did not even bother to help. The 3rd manager I spoke with did a good job trying to help me. You have no idea how much I have cried and the nervous breakdown I had. I have worked so hard for my credit and to get my house and this company which I could have paid off at once.. just messed up my credit. I could even lose my job which requires good credit.
Oh Lowe’s Synchrony Bank I have no way to express my disappointment. And since you all say you cannot help I’ll keep pushing until the end reason why I’m going to the FDIC and any other forum I can find. What a nightmare!!! I have other credit cards from synchrony and I hope they are not planning to the the same... This is incredible.

I have had credit accounts with Synchrony for years. I am well above 6 digits income. All my accounts were in good standing with a total credit limit of over $50K. No late payments, no changes on my credit score. They raised every card limit over 400% within the last few months based on that credit worthiness and score. Then, in one single day, Synchrony closed every single account without notice. Received a letter stating "Activity on accounts indicative of high risk of failure to pay". How is that possible when there were less than $3k total on just 2 of the several accounts I had with them. This $50k reduction severely increased my debt ratio and ripped over 100 point on my score.
They said that they cannot reverse the decision despite acknowledging it is odd. I would never recommend this bank for any services who find nothing wrong with what they have done to my credit. They say "They don't consider the impact on the card holder when these decisions are made". Speaks volumes of their practices. I am in the process of seeking legal assistance to challenge that impact on my score without cause. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had a care credit account for 2 years, they arbitrarily decided to reduce my credit after 2 years in the middle of a pandemic. They claim it is based solely off my low credit score (which hasn't really changed in 2 years) and was poor to begin with. After making 2 years of on time plus payments they lower the amount of credit I have? This company refuses to reinstate the credit and thinks that they can get away with this. Don't use them. Ever. Worse customer service I ever had. No ability to fix what they did and downright refusal to all escalation is what I encountered.

I am so furious. I just discovered that EVERYONE of my Synchrony cards are canceled. ALL OF THEM. I have a 100% payment record and am never late on my bills. How can they just randomly do this to people? I am not laid off, have never asked for COVID relief, never missed a bill, or anything and now they pull this? And I see I'm not the only one they've done this to. And of course, you can't get a human on the phone.
I'm going to the FTC with a complaint, but as for now, Synchrony is the WORST. They just can't pull credit out from under people? My Paypal Mastercard. Gone. Amazon. Gone. JC Penney. Gone. Every card I had with them. Gone. And they sent NO NOTICE that they were going to do it. I feel like I'm going to have a stroke. What's the use of building up a good credit rating and earning a decent living if companies can just randomly cancel you. If anyone hears of a class action lawsuit, I want in.

My husband and I have been with Synchrony credit cards for quite some time. We have never paid late, always paid diligently on time and accurately. Unfortunately, during this time, I have lost my father and my brother, leaving us no mental head space to remember to pay on time. ALL other companies and credit cards, mortgage companies etc have waived late fees, but not synchrony. They have harassed us with several phone calls, text messages and emails. While grieving, we were not worried about "remembering" to pay this bill, which let me remind you, has a VERY small balance due. Lo and behold, we were charged the late fee. I am disgusted in the insensitivity of this company and lack of human decency during this time. I'm speaking for all people suffering in anyway right now. So I went back as far back as I could go (less than a year) and looked. My regular purchase balance went from $465 in May 2019 to $1086 in March 2020 and I haven't used the card!!
Now yes, regular purchases have a 26.99% APR but it doesn't account for the over $600 + added to the balance. Every month, anywhere from $20 to almost $100 is added to the balance with no explanation. At this rate, I'll never pay off the balance! When I call to get an answer, I get put on hold and then disconnected. My next recourse is to contact CFPB who has previously ordered CareCredit to pay over 34 million for unfair practices. I wanted to make sure the world knows what this financial institution is doing to its consumers. I had to settle on an accounts with this company back in November 2019. It's April 2020 and we are all facing significant financial hardships. Synchrony clearly allows its call representatives to take consumer accounts into their own hands dictating the outcome. I've been trying to get issues corrected on my credit report since Early January and there’s been no prevail. Now, there's a world crisis. I have very little money and need a loan to make it through these next few months and I can’t obtain a loan because of the inaccurate reporting that's never been cleared up.
I've spent the last 2 weeks on the phone trying to reach someone who will do their job and by law report accurate account information. I have failed. Three different representatives refused to make the corrections and when I questioned their authority they wouldn't allow me to speak to management. I have proven documentation they are reporting errors on my settled accounts and still these call representatives will not make the corrections. They have no right to handle accounts in the matter in which they are and should be fired immediately. It's the law to report accurate information.
Eric from India, Eric from Philippines, Marcina from ?. All three of these call representatives between April 18-April 24 Refused to make corrections. I have resorted to finding a pro-bono lawyer since it's my life that they are ruining. I can't pay my bills or feed myself because I'm out of work and unemployment checks are months behind. This company should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and their employees.

I paid off the account quickly and was able to pay off the account except for $300 without having to pay any interest. I was so impressed that I then opened a Care Credit account with them. I bought some very needed tires for my car and had it serviced. Same deal here, initial credit hit when I opened the account. One more payment this month and I will have gotten all my services without interest. Just so anyone reading this understands, no I did not make minimum payments. I always paid much more. After reading the reviews here, I realize this bank is simply taking away credit lines or worse yet, closing accounts for no reason. They are downsizing their "exposure" in extended credit lines due to COVID 19. I've never had a late payment and they reduced my credit line in half in late March 2020 just like they did to all of you here with the same complaint. I called the bank and a supervisor claimed it was just a coincidence to the COVID 19 issue BUT, I'm a 69 year old retired lawyer and I'm very clear on why. The bank imagines this is going to be a long damaging scenario with millions of us defaulting on payments and they are reducing the possible damage IN ADVANCE by taking away the credit lines or worse yet, closing the accounts calling it "high risk". It's not a "good faith" thing to do and I will file a complaint with the FTC. None of us are high risk but the situation IS to the bank.
They measured what could be the damage when cards are maxed and nobody can pay for it and they are simply taking some of that subject risk away in advance. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this bank. In my case, this CARE CREDIT card was for health issues for myself and my dogs. I have a 17 year old dog and they have now taken away his financial safety net. That's disgusting and defeats the entire reason I got this card to begin with. BE CAREFUL when you apply for any other card. Synchrony Bank is hidden and a financial partner to lots of big stores. Terrible customer service- terrible bank. We have had Synchrony cards for over a year. Two with Rooms To Go and one with Care Credit. We have NEVER been late on any payments to them (or any other of our credit cards for that matter). Just recently they dropped our rooms to go credit line by $500. So even though we have been paying on it. It shows our credit utilization at 80%..
Care credit in the middle of covid 19 dropped from a $6k limit to a 1,700 limit. Apparently we are now considered “high risk”. Once again this brought our credit utilization from 21% to 90%!!!! We have been the ones who are fortunate not to have been impacted by covid 19. We are both still working- our income hasn’t changed, bills are still being paid on time... I’m due to give birth in less than a week as well... Called customer service to see if they can help us understand what happened. Only response we get was “oh we mailed a letter on the 17th.”
They won’t call you or even email you. It hits your credit first and then you receive something in the mail. Once all three cards are paid off we will be closing. I advise anyone to do the same. If they can’t be there for their customers during a pandemic like this. They are no good when everything will be back to normal. I will never recommend them again.

The cards were Paypal, Amazon Prime, Lowe's, Sam's Club etc. These cards totaled probably over $40,000.00 worth of credit. My balance owed for all cards total was less than $3,000.00. I went online to make a payment on my Lowe's Credit Card and I was surprised to see that my account had been closed. I immediately called to see why this account was closed and was told I Was HIGH RISK. I told the Synchrony Bank service rep that surely something was wrong and this could not be correct. I have never missed a payment with them and that my Credit Score was in the mid to upper 700's. I was told there was nothing I could do that MY ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED FOR HIGH RISK. I was also told that I would be receiving a formal letter in the mail saying that my account was closed due to high risk.
After hanging up with the customer rep from Synchrony I then checked my other credit cards that I had through Synchrony Financial and they were all closed by Synchrony. I was shocked to say the least. There was no reason to deem me as high risk and close my accounts. They have probably ruined my credit score that I worked hard to achieve. This is not fair. I had 16 accounts with Synchrony Bank all in good standing, always paid in full or couple of weeks before min. payments were due and always paid more than the minimum. To make it simple for you my total utilization percentage was only 1%. 4 days before they closed all my accounts on feb 6th, they raised my Sam's Club's credit line to $7000 (on feb 2nd) and in december of 2019 I was approved for 2 Rakuten (one pre-approved for $3100 and a platinum one for $5700). Also in early Jan I was approved for their Chevron visa card for $3000. The accounts closed were mainly Visa and Mastercards but including the Care Credit, Paypal credit and a few other accounts such as Lowe's and QVC...etc...the total credit line exceeded $83000.
Despite of the fact that I contacted them several times and opened a dispute with them since my eBay and paypal mastercard were active on a weekly basis, they sent me 16 letters, the reason for their decision was that they found me a high risk. I need to mention that I am on a social security guaranteed income and own my house (paid off) and as I mentioned my total utilization was 1%. And I have several other cards with other banks.
I went by their rules and as I said after calling them and explaining all these, then they sent a letter that the decision was based on the information they got from Transunion (this is the only company they pull from, very seldom for at home mastercard they pulled an Experian) so I called transunion and the rep. pulled my report and said she does not see anything on my report besides the fact that they closed all my accounts on the 6th, and reported them on feb 7th with the remark, account closed by creditor. My vantage 4 fico score at that time was 729. The rep advised that she can only open a dispute and I needed to wait for 30 days or so from the creditor.
As of this date I have not heard from synchrony bank except for the fact that earlier today I found out they did the same thing to my 9 spouse's accounts exceeding $51000 in credit line, I am speechless and do not see any reason to call them. I have seen thousands of complaints and have read quite a few of them and the same thing has happened to me and my spouse. The only reasons I can come up with is old age and race. Since they did not look good to close the accounts during the pandemic, they closed mine couple of weeks earlier and closed her's right after most of the restrictions were lifted yesterday.
This bank does not know relationship and don't care at all what the complications may be for the consumer after closing so many accounts on one day. They have treated us and the rest of the people I have read their comments like criminals. They close all accounts in one day and report it to all 3 reporting agency the following day. How can I be a high risk with them when they issued the cards, they raised the limits on them, 4 of them were pre-approved up until 4 days after the limit was raised on my sam's club's. With the vantage 4 score of 729 and 1% utilization, guaranteed income from social security and a paid off house?
I am in no position to tell others whether or not they apply for synchrony's cards and do business with them or not. I just wanted to share my experience as a loyal synchrony bank customer who told several friends and relatives about this bank but did not know the way they treat their best customers. They have a poor customer service, their reps don't know the answers to your very basic questions and put you on hold to ask a mgr.
I am glad for the fact that this nightmare (having accounts with Synchrony) for me and my spouse has ended, there is a small balance on a few of her accounts that I will pay in full but I have plan to write them and ask them to remove the closing accounts and all the transunion hard pulls from my account as well as my wife's since they have discriminated against us due to race and age as I can not come up with any other reason based on the fact that 2 of their managers and the rep. from transunion somehow replied that this must have been due to a computer error.
My spouse vantage score as of today is 750. I just became 65 and she is 70 years old. I am glad that Walmart switched to Capital One and our accounts are now with them, otherwise they would have been closed as well. Closing inactive accounts for over 6 months or if someone defaults on any account at any time, drop in fico score, having derogatory info., high utilization above 30% -40% may raise the red flag for a bank and they target those accounts but closing so many accounts in good standing all at once is new to me same as thousands of others who have complained about this bank's behaviour.
I think Synchrony can be called a predatory bank, no matter how you look at it, they have ruined thousands and thousands of credit reports and have caused hardship for majority of those account holders. This is the time all banks offer help if people can't pay on time and a lot of people use their credit cards and instead of helping their customers, they target your accounts and close them. What a bank. I do not even want this bank's name appear on my report and although I am very upset, I am glad it happened after 2 years rather than 6 or 7 years down the road as I have seen many complaints that they had old accounts, active and in good standing but Synchrony closed them.
I believe Federal Trade Commission need to check in to this bank's behavior. They are ruining people's credit and cause a hardship. If they are not eager to do business with someone who they think is old or they do not like his/her race, the first 2 turn downs will signal the consumer that they need to try other banks, but extending so much credit over a 2 year period, all done by their rules and suddenly pull the plug on every single account is not normal and needs to be looked in to.
That's all I can say today and hope the fellow friends who read this and have plan on applying for a card through this bank, think twice. It's like playing Russian roulette, every single day you need to be ready as this bank may pull the trigger on you and all your accounts in good standing will vanish in a heartbeat. After what synchrony has done, I have a lot more respect for the smaller banks that gave me a lower credit line on my credit cards but they are not predatory and vicious as synchrony.

Some had small balances, and most of them have been used in the past year and have zero balances. This was done for no reason. There was nothing sent to me to let me know this was happening.
Logging into each account online I see this: "This account has been closed. No further purchases will be allowed. Continue to make payments until your balance is paid in full" AND "We are here to support you. We currently have limited customer service staffing and it may be difficult to reach us by phone. If you are impacted and unable to find what you need through our digital channels, please contact us to discuss how we can help."
When you have a zero balance and you pay your stuff on time, HOW is this helping anybody (Including businesses) that rely on customers to use for purchases to keep them afloat?? So I called them (after taking hours to get through). I'm told that "There is no reason listed on why your accounts have been closed, but you can always Re-Apply". This is all they would tell me. It's obvious this company has major issues. If it's because of COVID-19, Instead of just closing everyone's accounts without warning, a better business solution would be to lower limits so not to destroy people's credit. I can only suspect that this was done because of the recent pandemic, COVID19. So, at a time when I may need this most, they have suddenly adversely impacted me!!! I received the card and everything but because of Covid-19 my procedure is being put off, so I haven't used the card yet. I get a letter from Synchrony (a month later) saying that my application was approved but they were "unable to assign" the credit line and they gave a few reasons. My credit hasn't changed in that month, so I don't understand. I also have an account with them through Amazon. I checked it and it seems to be fine. I've never had any issues with my payments there and have gotten good service if I needed to contact them so this comes as quite a shock.
What the heck? I've never EVER had a company approve me for a card and then essentially take it back. Even more confusing is that when I log in to their website, it still shows the card as active with the original limit. I was reading the reviews here and it seems that I'm not the only one this has happened to - they are basically revoking credit, shutting people's accounts down, lowering limits. What a shady, horrible company.

In my experience this company has been the worst to deal with when it comes to their payment policy. When a payment is due they can clearly see when I log in to submit a payment but they take 2-3 days to process it. During the "processing" time they assess a late fee. All my other credit card companies honor the payment the day that I make it. This company waits until the payment has cleared before they honor it. To make a long story short, the newest accounting nightmare that they put me through... they just waived a $40 late fee and turned around and charged a new $40 late fee for the $40 balance that I had. If you waive $40, how can you charge a new fee on the balance that you just waived. Very disappointed in their "accounting" process. Not very customer service friendly. Feels like a very fraudulent way of doing business.

I have a credit score of over 800. I have over 7,500 dollars worth of credit with Synchrony bank according to them. Today I wanted to purchase a 502.00 mattress with no interest of 6 months and the credit card was declined. After they made me take a video, upload both sides of my license they told me sorry they cannot verify me or offer me the credit. I have no debt on any card and I make a good salary. I have never been denied before by them or anybody else. The manager Raven sounded like a robot and she had no thoughts of her own except to say a letter in 10 days will come explaining why they denied my credit. She was disgusting and had no thoughts of her own. When I asked to speak to her boss she told me that nobody would be available. There is an error somewhere and she had no skills to figure it out. I called back and they left me on hold for over 20 minutes so I hung up. Disgusted!!

I previously wrote a negative review regarding Synchrony Bank's failure to complete my external transfer, and their cancellation and delays cost me many days of lost interest. Yesterday, I was pleased to discover that Synchrony Bank DID provide a "concession to customer for lost interest" credit to my account. Adding this back-dated interest restored my faith in this bank and I now have no complaints. I appreciate the restoration of goodwill and the interest, and now update to 5 stars.

For the third time, I have tried to transfer funds from Synchrony bank to another bank. For some reason that Synchrony fails to provide, my transfer was cancelled by Synchrony, and all of my money disappeared for 5 days AND NO INTEREST WAS BACKDATED when the funds were finally returned to the savings account. The chat line was a tremendous waste of hold time, and exasperatingly useless after finally getting a customer service agent. The same transfer fail and loss of interest occurred 3 separate times with certificates of deposit, too. It is as if they want to penalize you for transferring money to another bank. These "FREE" transfers ultimately cost plenty in lost interest for the delays. Stay away from this bank!

After being left on hold for nearly an hour the representative came back with a hearty nope. Sad that a company like this can’t be supportive of their customers in this time of crisis. While I own my own fault in this issue, I am still writing this review as a warning to any Synchrony Bank cardholders, particularly Lowes since that is the only experience I have with this company. If you pay your statement balance in full, even if you THINK you paid your statement balance in full by confirming that all your purchases have cleared, CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT the following month.
My mistake was doing the aforementioned and believing that was that until I decided to use the card again. Nope! Several months later, I get a letter from a collection agency for almost $200 on this account. Apparently, several days AFTER I paid my statement balance in full, a random charge of $2 and some change was added to my account. And since I always opt for paperless billing and communication, I was completely unaware of the charge that had been collecting late fees and interest on the late fees for several months, until they charged it off and sent it to collections.
When I called Synchrony to ask what the ** the $2 charge was for that was now $200, they couldn't really answer and said since it was now in collections, I needed to talk to the collection agency. Very abrupt and unhelpful. So now my once-perfect credit is tarnished with a charge off AND a collection on my account. Double whammy. So yes, my mistake for not diligently checking this account each month, but if I can save one person from making this same mistake with the same unfortunate results, my good deed for the day is done.

Synchrony Bank is one of the worst credit companies I have worked with. I have had a CareCredit Card and PayPal account for years and now my payments are held for up to 2 weeks after receipt and I am constantly being charged late fees. I am now sending my payments almost a month in advance so they are credited at an appropriate time. Calling them and speaking to a human is virtually impossible. When finally speaking to a human I was told my bank is not sending payments on time, they do not hold my payments to "batch" deposits, which my bank told me they are doing, and if I continue to receive late fee charges, just call and they will reverse the late payment fees. Never had any of these problems until Synchrony took over these accounts. Again, calling them is a nightmare since there is no option to speak to anyone until you waste time listening to info that you can't use.
I recently took out an Amazon card not realizing Synchrony also finances that card. Again, a problem, they did not have my correct address, why I have no idea and I did not receive a card. Then they would not resend until I verified information they should have had on file, including my address. I cancelled the card, did not receive an email invoice. I finally got an email reminder of my payment with an interest charge, no address for payment, and had to make two phone calls to get the information, including my account number, to set up for immediate payment by my bank. I did not even mention I had never received my bill via email as it is not worth the hassle. Their only other option for payment is to set up my bank information on their website which I never do online. I certainly hope Consumer Affairs looks into their business practices. Avoid this organization to save yourself a lot of drama and headaches!

The scam: They (meaning Amazon for example) offers you a promotion or something to apply for a credit card, that promotion expires, SyncPHONY will then part ways with said company in which you applied for credit, at that point SyncPHONY owns the account...They act like a collection agency and and not a financial institution. Every negative review here is credible, and I have another level of underhandedness to add: I was making payments on time, online with my regular bank debit card fir months. Same one I’d always used with them that also worked in every other context, with a high enough balance to pay the existing balance off several times. They suddenly stopped accepting my card...even though it worked there previously and still worked everywhere else and still does. They said it was “invalid” but couldn’t say why it was only invalid with them. Went to supervisors, supervisors supervisors...some of whom were very rude, assuming I was a deadbeat.
Same story as the others combined...lowered my access to credit, eliminated my interest free period, charged me fees, and lowered my credit score by 300 points, and no one could help. I was forced to mail in payments, and even though I’ve sent payment in full, they’re still adding fees, so you can never be paid off...Even though I did nothing wrong and there still is nothing wrong with my original form of payment. This “bank” is corrupt to the core, preying on people in life threatening situations, then scamming to the hilt. He said we would get it within a week. It came 2 weeks later and our payment was late. They added a $28.00 late fee. I called to complain but got the run around so paid the late fee over the phone and was assured it would clear my account. The next month there was a $29.65 late fee.
I called and to get the late payment removed. She (India) went all around an explanation that didnt make sense to me and would not allow me to speak to a manager. They have a set script they stick to and can't problem solve. She said something about crediting my account with the previous late payment I paid and that would come off my total amount owed but I still had to pay this late fee charge this month to avoid interest on the late charges. I said I wanted an analysis done on my account and someone to call me to remove this late fee. I told them I would pay this fee to keep more interest and late fees from being charged but I wanted it fixed. She assured me there would not be a late fee on my next bill.
We had already sent the payment for the regular amount 10 days early. So we have paid $49.00 in late fees we shouldn't have been charged. For some reason, in December Synchrony decided that because we live in the U.S.A. or the State of California or we like driving our pickup, the amount of the monthly payment will increase by sixty bucks. This is all stated in a change to the agreement that was sent via U.S. Mail. No e-mail notification, no phone call... NOTHING! Just a letter in the mail... Along with all the other sales junk that I get and don't care to pour over.
The payment each and every month is automated. THEY ALWAYS GET PAID ON-TIME. I get enough junk mail to choke a horse. I see something in my mailbox every month from Synchrony and I think SALES JUNK or INVOICE! The monthly payment is automated. Why should I worry. But I guess in December they decided I wasn't paying enough. No reason... The payment was going to increase next year. In February 2020, my payment was made AUTOMATICALLY. But the payment was less than what they now wanted. They dinged me with a late charge. They then notified me via e-mail, that my account was in arrears. Please pay or be sued.
You try and talk to these guys and you get people who don't understand; they lie to you blatantly over the phone. And then when you ask for a supervisor you get the same diatribe from the supervisor and get lied to over the phone. TWICE! The payment is made automatically. The payment amount is set. I don't need to open every bit of mail from companies trying to sell me something. I would hope a company that gets automated payments would appreciate the timeliness. I would expect that would follow the agreement as it was initially stated. It's kind of like making your car payment for a year and then getting an obscure note that the payment is going up by 50% for no apparent reason. And you better just live with it! In the meantime, penalties MUST be paid.

Then today.... a text came from them saying "OH you have to pay your bill"... GEEZE. Yes they want me to pay double or triple the bill of $901.89. So on Amazon, I stopped using that credit card because it's become clear what that very dangerous bank is going to do. If it's proved that they made me pay the bill (this last month had a lot of things coming from Amazon so the bill was $901.89) two or three times I'll call the police and/or a lawyer.

DO NOT open any credit card accounts with Synchrony Bank. I had a credit card that had been in good standing, completely paid off for TWO AND A HALF YEARS CONSECUTIVELY. One day I got a credit score notification that one of my accounts had been closed. Confused, I log on to my account, where the customer service representative was completely unhelpful by saying "I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do, I tried my best, sorry". So now, on my credit score, it has a severe derogatory mark saying a credit lender closed my account, even though there was NOTHING wrong with the card! It had an outstanding balance of ZERO dollars and had been that way consistently! They offered no explanation, refused to reopen my account, and have severely damaged my credit score.
I will NEVER re-apply for this card, nor will I continue any business with this bank. I'm going to pay off and close all cards I have with Synchrony Bank and make sure people know how unprofessional, unreliable, and damaging their company is. DO NOT OPEN A CREDIT CARD WITH THIS BANK. If you look online there are hundreds of people who all say the same thing. They had excellent credit history, paying their cards on time with limited usage, in excellent standing for years, and then one day- bam - they close it on you, crippling your credit score and history without any explanation or assistance. Please heed our warnings and stay far away from this bank.

Absurd business practices. First they mysteriously turn off my scheduled auto-payment, then don't send you a statement. You get hit with a late fee because you missed the payment you thought you had set up. I was fed up with their business and paid off the card in it's entirety, including the sham $25 late fee that was due to their corrupt practice. Next month another interest charge appears despite the card having been paid off. Yet again, no statement is sent so once again it's late, but now they sent it to COLLECTIONS. I was sent to collections over a matter of $10.57. Never in my life will I deal with this fraudulent bank or their credit card and what can best be described as consumer FRAUD. STAY AWAY unless you plan on checking your statement online every other day, because even if you set an auto-pay option, they will disable it and force you to miss a payment so they can then rip you off month after month.

My Lowe's credit card limit was reduced from $9000.00 to $1500.00 without notice. This is the second time they have done this to me. Years ago, I went in to buy carpet for a rental only to find they had reduced my limit and I was denied right there while checking out. How embarrassing. After that my limit was increased to $9000.00. I got an email from credit monitoring recently that notified me of a change. I went in to find the limit decreased to $1500. I called and customer service was apologetic, and agreed that it was a terrible thing to do to people. They do it all the time and without notice just because you have not used the card in a certain amount of time. I will never shop there again.

I spend several thousand dollars a month on my credit card and pay off the balance in full every month and have done so for decades. In the fall of 2019 I signed up online for auto-pay, instructing that the full balance due be deducted automatically from my bank account. First month it didn't work, which I discovered accidentally when I checked the account statement on-line. Customer service told me there was a one-month delay from the month of sign-up and perhaps I had missed that detail. I paid the entire balance due in a phone call and understood the autopay situation would work going forward. But it didn't. No autopay deduction was made the second month, which I again discovered only when I happened to check the account online.
I again paid in full in a phone call to customer service. This time the customer service rep indicated there had been widespread autopay problems and apologized and I understood it would be fixed going forward. I made the mistake of believing this to be true. The problem continued and in the third month there was still no auto-pay deduction. Now I'm being told my account is delinquent and I'm being charged interest and late fee that wouldn't have applied if autopay had worked. Now the customer service rep implies the situation is my fault and tells me they have no record that I've ever been signed up for autopay, even though that's not what I see online when I'm looking at my account page while talking to the rep. Customer service refused to make it right with respect to rolling back unwarranted interest charges. I was then told there would be a $10 fee to pay the bill over the phone. So I paid off balance in full online (no fee).
I am an extremely unsatisfied customer, Synchrony Bank customer service couldn't or wouldn't agree that there was a problem. I don't know if Synchrony has reported any negative information based on these autopay failures to credit ratings agencies, but I have been a reliable customer and shouldn't have to even wonder about that question. I am done with Synchrony Bank. I will be cancelling the card as soon as a replacement arrives from another bank (already approved).

What happens now is a that my payments after my due date after the 22nd will still count for the same month instead of the next cycle. I have been a good paying customer since buying furniture in December 2017. I had 2 accounts with Havertys. Havertys uses Synchrony Bank for credit accounts. I had a $6,000 credit limit with one account paid and another with a paid down amount to $1,500. I paid my account on time by mailing a payment which never showed up as paid on my online account. So, I made a second payment on time on my due date on 9/11. I emailed the company several times inquiring about the payments that I made, where was the original mailed payment and also to applied these payments to both September and October.
The original mailed payment shows up after 9/17 that it posted on 9/9, but the online system never said they even received that payment and that is why I made a payment on 9/11 so there were 2 payments. You would think the company would see those 2 equal payment and apply them to September and October as I also inquired about. I got back a response saying all the payments were received and that they would appropriately credit my active account. I thought September and October payments were covered. WRONG!
I received an nasty-o-gram email on 10/20/2019 stating that I was overdue and owed $250! My payments are $111 in equal payments until paid. I had already paid $222 to them and they did not appropriately pay my account at all. My credit with them dropped to about $1,800 as well from $6,000! So my credit score was also dinged!
I called and spoke with their customer service (in India) and I was told at first it is not allowed to post payments that way. I asked for a supervisor. The person who I spoke with said they would remove the $28 late fee. They would also apply the payments to September and October. They would also make sure my credit limit would be returned. On Wednesday 10/23, I checked my account and the late fee was removed and the account remained at $1800 limit and I still owed $222! How so? I was reassured yet again just days before that it was taken care of. I went back online to email the company again. I still have not heard back from the online account.
I also emailed separately to Synchrony's please start here before you complain to the BBB or FTC. I wrote Synchrony to explain my frustration. For someone who has kept up with their payments and wanted to remain a good paying customer, to pay 2 payments to cover their account so they would not get into trouble, as the consumer I am suffering from trying to do the right thing.
Today, I received a call from the Synchrony "office of the president" call center based on the email to the start here rather than complain to the FTC and BBB. I got nowhere. They said they could mail back $111 so that I could cover October and November and thus pay $222. How backwards is that? Rather than properly applying the money they already have they want to send me a check to re-pay the account again. This will not guarantee I get my account returned to the original balance of $6,000 so that I can purchase something in the near future. I did not plan to buy that much, but I wanted to keep my account current and good.
The person I spoke with, Crystal, said there was nothing they can do until I pay $222. I just did! I paid them $222 for 2 payments. They did not properly post and there is nothing they can do to fix it. As a consumer, this puts a strain on people who live on a budget. I had no issues prior to this and I am shocked that in order to make things right in a rather simple way that Synchrony will not go the extra mile to correct their own mistake. Why should it fall on the consumer? Why is this bank allowed to strong arm consumers into paying more when they already paid their account in equal installments?
I want other consumers to know to beware. If Synchrony's president's office cannot help and they may a promise online to contact them first to remedy the situation after I have been told a couple of times the payments were applied appropriately, then they are manipulating accounts by not posting payments on time to purposely hurt consumers. They have no excuses. They can fix it and they do not care. I feel helpless but plan to go to the BBB and FTC and report the inappropriate way they have handle my credit account and my money that I trusted them with!

I’ve had this store card from Synchrony Bank since December of 2017, nearly two full years. I purchased a living room set for my mother for Christmas on it. I then paid it off In full while it was still under the no interest terms. I did not use it until until May 2019 (5 months ago). I made another substantial purchase on the 6 months same as cash offer. I log in today to pay and find my account is closed! I’ve never missed a payment, I did have 3 payments that processed a couple days late and incurred $1 in interest on the card with a small late fee, but never any missed payments. When I asked them why, it was just basically stated they because they can. I had no notice, no email, no alert on my app until I log in today to pay it off before the 6 month cut off where I would then owe interest.
This caused a significant blow to my credit score as it now shows a closed account and that effects the credit debt ratio, number of open accounts, and average length of credit history. Which, is a problem because now I’ve paid it off, the what would have been available credit will not reflect as credit available. I contacted several agencies and this is perfectly legal! They have the right to cancel you for any reason. Even if the reason is they are not making money off of you. Beware if you have good credit and you are considering this company. They may significantly damage your credit score for you paying on time or early.

Had to get tires needed help as they cost over a thousand so Discount Tires sent me to Synchrony which approved right away. I never got a bill so I called them, looking back I feel this was intentional in trying to ruin my credit. I could not pay off balance in 6 months as I am on fixed income so in one month $100 was added to debt in interest! Now the tires will cost way over what they are worth!!! Horrible Companies both Discount Tires and Synchrony Bank out of Orlando Florida!!!!

My wife and I called on Sep 17, the last day we could pay off a promotional amount we charged 12 months ago. We spent 9 mins on the phone with the representative from Synchrony going through the process, me on my cell phone driving and my wife also on the line, conference'd in via my phone. The representative took our payment and explained to us that it would take 24 to 48 hours for the payment to show up on the account. Well the next day Synchrony closed out the statement and sent it out to us. We went on travel for a month and when we returned last week we were going through our accounts and noticed the balance on the Synchrony was double what it should be; we called the representative and explained the issue.
They had no record of us making the payment or talking to the representative. They did pull the phone log and saw that we called at the same that matches my phone call log on my cell phone account. The rep stated that we told them we were going to call back to make the payment. I asked her why would that take 9 mins? They are going to pull the phone log to determine what's happened. I'll keep you up-to-date on what we find out. Lesson learned, always ask for the verification or transaction record number to verify a payment.

I currently have four separate accounts with them from various outlets. I always make all of my payments on time. However, I was late ONCE with this company on only one of my four accounts and they started calling me twice a day! They are ruthless! To top it all off, after being a total of one week late on my payment, they lowered my credit limit by over $3,000! This really hurt my credit score. This company has zero regard for its customers. I will be closing all four of my accounts with them. Never again Synchrony.

Yes, Synchrony has been great. They did take my Care credit card away (no Dentists would allow 1 or 2 treatments so it was too high for Care Credit) and I used my Credit card instead... It's high interest makes it hard to get it down. That's all true, However; Synchrony has been very good with me and me credit score is Great because of them too. If not for the Synchrony, things would of been so much harder for me, going without is also hard and more expensive often times when you can't fix your car without the cash, you know, things like that... I'm thankful and appreciative.

They deserve zero stars! I was going to open a Sam's Club Mastercard. I was being helped by someone at the Customer Service desk, and she called this bank to give more information as requested. Both her and I had to repeat the same information 10 times, and then she was transferred to a different person. The gal at Sam's told this man 2 times he did not have to be rude to her, as she was a representative of Sam's Club, and was helping to hear him. He REFUSED to talk to the gal at Sam's and I could not hear him on phone. So I told gal just forget it, that I don't want the card. She told the man on the phone what I said, and hung up on him. I would not have anything to do with this bank if you paid me to.

I have applied twice for a Care Credit card to have major dental work done. Each time, once in July and most recently, today, only to be declined. When I spoke with several individuals with Synchrony, including Eric the manager, Susan the supervisor, and a host of other representatives, including Tracy with Applications Processing, I got the runaround. While Eric and Susan told me their decision was based on Trans Union and not Synchrony, a letter from Synchrony clearly stated in black and white that the reporting agency (Trans Union) played no part in their decision, and that it was Synchrony's decision to decline me.
I also confirmed this with Trans Union where a representative at TU told me they played no part in declining me. I feel this is incredibly unfair where my credit and income have steadily gone up and I have been approved for several credit limit increases, due to my exceptional payment history and the overall improvement to my credit profile. In fact, my score was near 700 before my most recent application. Although I had a ch 7 bankruptcy last year and was fully discharged, Synchrony is holding this against me.
I was even declined for a store card (Walmart) by Synchrony earlier this year. This makes 3 hard pulls on my credit, which made my score decline significantly. Due to the fear of being declined again, I was told by Tracy that he would push this Care Credit application through for me if I were declined again and advised me to call him back directly, in which he provided me a phone number. When I called the number, it was to a completely different department, where they never heard of this "Tracy" person in Application Processing. To make matters worse, when I asked both Susan and Eric to escalate this matter to their Executive office (OOP), they declined my request. In fact, I was able to find out Eric provided me with a totally false address for the OOP. Bottom line, I am absolutely furious with how I was treated as a customer, and how I was lied to and discriminated against by Synchrony Bank.

We called to question it. The phone number and card are matched, have to confirm mailing address, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, and in order to find out why it was declined they want a PROOF OF LIFE VIDEO. Did they kidnap us? Ransom note? And they wouldn’t add my name unless my Sam’s card membership is under his name? Why are they harassing customers? He has a zero balance. They let me use his $30 in cashback funds. This is insanity!!

I received an email that payment was accepted. I printed this out. 10/10/19, I received an email "payment was declined." They want me to pay an additional $25.00 for their error. I called Synchrony to find out why--they claimed that because my account was new they needed to make sure that my payment had cleared my bank, they were withholding my credit for 5 days. Newsflash, Synchrony--I pay you with my bank's checking account. Once the payment has cleared my bank I am unable to put a stop payment on it. This payment cleared my bank on October 4, 2019. I CANNOT put a stop payment on it. It is PAID IN FULL! I am reporting Synchrony first to the Better Business Bureau and then if that does not get results, I am reporting them to our state's AG office. Word of advice--don't accept credit cards backed by Synchrony. They are ruining me!

Stay away from any kind of credit card with Synchrony. I was in the hospital, lost my job, and was unable to pay a couple of credit cards for a couple of months. When I was back on my feet again, all the other companies I dealt with helped me to get my accounts up to date, and I was within a couple of months. All Synchrony ever wanted was complete payment of any past due account, with all kinds of interest and late fees. When I finally got fed up with trying to deal with them, I just took their out, turned the accounts basically into a loan, and then closed the two accounts.
The fun started weeks later when FOUR other cards I had with them, accounts that were NEVER late -- 3 of them didn't even have a balance -- were suddenly closed! No reason given, just closed! And up until all this started happening, I had MORE THAN TEN YEARS of use of their accounts with no late payments or any other problems. And their response -- "It's our right to close these accounts." I will NEVER do business with Synchrony again, as long as I live. Terrible, TERRIBLE company!!!

Synchrony Financial sent us a pre approval on a credit card with 2% back on all purchases, no limit no exceptions or gimmicks. We have the actual offer on paper. So, we apply good deal right? Card comes, the entire plan is different. 2% back on only purchases under $299. And the 2% is only good until 12/31/19 then goes to 1%. Crooks doing business, bait and switch is still allowable apparently.

I recently found out Synchrony bank reduced the credit limit on one of my cards and closed another one ... closed the one with a zero balance. Says I had 4 things on my credit report to include late pays which based their decision. When I called them to talk to them they basically blamed the credit reporting system ... which If they would have read my report my score had dropped to high credit on my major cards due to work and my dept cards were small or no balances. I will never do business with this bank again If this is how they roll.

Then she proceeded to tell me I’m signed up to get my bill electronically for the last year....
