I have several credit cards through Synchrony Bank. A few months ago they just randomly lowered my limits on 3 of them. I received a message a few days later saying that my credit score had been lowered due to this.

Let me Begin by saying there is a reason to not deal with credit cards! I had a Belk account and a Lowe's account I have made my payments on time several years never maxed my card out! So as usual before my due date I made two payments online went through all the steps and didn't think much more about it. Lo and behold I open up my bank account and Synchrony Bank just took it upon themselves and drained my entire bank account by taking out the full amount owed. Good riddance to you. I will tell everyone what you did to this hard-working honest girl that's just trying to make it on her own! I've never felt so disgusted over a business!

I have had a Synchrony card through Mattress Firm for 18 months. I have never missed a payment, usually pay more than the minimum payment. My most recent statement had a late due charge! There is no customer service number to call. The only contact can be made via internet. During internet chat, the chat ended prematurely. Very dissatisfied with Synchrony.

I have had a Lowes credit account for years and used it occasionally, generally to take advantage of a special promotion. I had not used it in a while so Synchrony chose to drop my credit limit from $12,000 to $1,500 which caused a significant hit on my almost 850 credit score. No warning, nothing... I closed the account immediately and will also be closing my PayPal credit account, which I seldom, if ever, use because it is also a Synchrony account and I am not taking another hit for being prudent with my credit.

This company does not care if they ruin your credit. They are closing my accounts for no reason. I have never been late on any card payment. They closed my Rooms To Go account while I still have a balance on it. This has made my credit usage on my credit report show over 100% of my credit used and my score has taken a major hit. I’m so frustrated and am trying to protect my credit from them doing this again with my PayPal card which hasn’t been closed yet, but I’m sure it’s coming after reading everyone’s reviews. This isn’t right and something needs to be done! I worked hard to have good credit and this company is trying to ruin it!

@CareCredit @Synchrony I took my dog to the vet, the bill came to $419.00. I THOUGHT I had a balance of $1597.00. It was declined. I contact @CareCredit who informed me that they lowered my limit unbeknownst to me. I’ve always paid my bill on time. CareCredit @Synchrony the powers that be figured I didn’t use my card ENOUGH, they would take a step towards ruining my credit! Never mind the fact that you pay on time every time. Most credit card companies send out a notification and allow a grace period. @CareCredit @Synchrony my available balance went from $1597.00 to $107.00 how is this ok? A credit card company should not be able to ruin a person’s credit when that person PAYS their bill on time! I feel like I’m being punished.

Terrible experience with the Synchrony issued Amazon credit card. My credit limit is a paltry $200 with no way to increase it. I have tried and have gotten denied even though I have a credit score over 700, stable income, and have had the card for a couple years now. Posting payments takes WEEKS, even with autopay. Say you make a payment on the 1st of the month, your usable credit does not apply for WEEKS! Customer support has confirmed this over the phone. What good is a getting 5% back on Amazon purchases if there is no way to use your credit? Purchases get constantly denied for no reason - I am trying to make a $39 purchase with $47 available credit. Nope, not going though. I am going to look for a way to cancel this useless card without a hit to my credit. I can't believe the largest ecommerce retailer has gone with this useless company as their credit issuer.

I had an account with Synchrony Home. I never missed a payment and I was never late. I paid the card in full in three months. It sat with no balance for two years. The company closed my account and then made a derogatory remark to the credit bureaus. They refused to reverse the erroneous remark which caused my credit score to take a hit. This is a predatorial lender, stay away. If you don't keep a debt and remain their slave, they will get theirs.

Synchrony uses an app to verify your identity when you apply for credit. It doesn’t always work. I tried three times to upload photos of my driver’s license and a photo of myself through the app and on my phone and I thought the third time it went through. I was told that I was denied because they couldn’t verify my identity. I called them and told them the app malfunctioned, they said they couldn’t do anything about it. I told them I already have three accounts with them. They said it doesn’t matter.
In other words Synchrony’s policy is to trust their app over a human being that is talking to them in real time on the phone. Unbelievable! This seems unethical and just bad business practice to me because people with excellent credit are being denied because of a malfunctioning app. They should have a process in place where when that happens, a customer should be able to contact a customer service agent and rectify the problem, but they don’t. I tried. BEWARE! If they don’t trust you, why should you trust them?

I opened an account with this bank for a PC Richards credit card. They ran my credit and gave me a 1000 credit limit. I’ve been paying it without delay and before it’s due. I received an alert from my credit monitoring app that my credit decreased and my score decreased as well as my balance. Upon review I discovered that Synchrony Bank decided to drop my credit limit to 400 dollars. Upon calling customer service and waiting over 20 minutes I was told there was nothing they could do. It was an automatic review and was hung up on, which again makes absolutely no sense considering that outside of Capital One this is the only credit card I have and my payment history is excellent. Synchrony Bank is a terrible horrible bank that deserves to collapse in on itself. Stay away from this bank at all costs!

After my first experience with Synchrony, I should have known not to get another account. They reduced credit on not one account, but another that hadn't been used. No matter that payments were made. The negative hits to my credit in a single month was in excess of 50 points. Will pay off account and never use again. Cash only at any vendor offering their credit from now on.

I have been an excellent customer of Synchrony for the past three years. I applied for and was approved for a Synchrony Care Credit card. I applied for this card to help cover vet expenses for my Boston Terrier, Daizy. She had glaucoma, allergies and other medical issues that required daily medications and several vet visits a year to keep her healthy. I paid my Care Credit card in full and most times BEFORE it was due every time I used it for her. I applied for and was approved for a City Furniture card. I was saving the card for new furniture for when I closed on my new house this year in the Fall.
Right before my closing, they reduced the limit on ALL of the cards I had for Synchrony. I had zero balances on them. My dog had a medical emergency this month! I rushed her to the vet's office and they required a pre-payment so I attempted to use my Care Credit card which declined! I did not have the funds available in cash to cover the emergency and my dog died! I called Synchrony to ask why my card was cancelled and was told they were not allowed to give that information over the phone and a notice was mailed to me in November (of which I still have never received).
My Daizy was like my child. I got her when she was 6 weeks old. She would have turned 12 years old January 1, 2021. She received better health care than I did because I wanted to make sure she was happy and healthy. I blame Synchrony for her death. With no warning or notice, they just arbitrarily closed ALL of my credit card accounts without notice. I had never been late on a payment. Never! I paid it in full EVERY time before or on the due date. Beware using this company! They are scammers!

Unfortunately, like most Americans and people around the world, my family has been drastically effected by COVID-19. Most of my creditors have been understanding and have even offered to freeze payment for a month or two until I could catch up. This company pulled my credit score (which lowered my already low score) and then lowered the amount of my credit card limit. I had just paid $150 on the card and was hoping to use some of the money to buy food for my family on the Holiday. When they lowered my limit, that took away the extra money I put on the card. This company is greedy and does not care about its customers. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I have had Synchrony Mastercard through Paypal for approximately 3 years. I primary use this account for business and take advantage of the 2% cashback. This account has been problematic from the beginning. This account has continued to have issues with security freezeouts on my account. This would happen almost every billing cycle. Recently the security lock-out have been happening on every other transaction over the last 6 months. Recently I lost several important payments for inventory because of the security freeze. Because of the freeze I lost out on purchases costing me over $4000.00 lost opportunity revenue. After unfreezing my account for the 4th time in 2 months I am filing this review.
Here is the issue I ask to speak to a supervisor regarding this issue. I was refused! I ask is this issue happening to other card users. I was informed this was a company wide issue. I asked how this is being addressed. CS had no true response but apologize and said they are trying to fix the issue. This issue has been going on for 6 months. Just tonight my account is frozen again and a business purchase was cancelled. I am done with this account.
I suggest that anyone having issue to never ever do business with Synchrony credit card services. They refuse to fix the problem and refuse to offer any sort of compensation for the thousands of lost revenue. Now they claim my account is a security risk and that I have not access to it until a new card is sent to me. My old card is no longer active and shut down. Mind you that I have paid off all my statements on time and most of these transactions are repeat purchase from same businesses. There are a lot of better Credit Cards Companies out there. Synchrony is definitely not one of them unless you want your card frozen all of the time.

I applied for the Amazon Credit Card offered through Synchrony. I was approved for a $1600 credit line. I logged on to my Amazon account and there was my card and a request to make it my default card. I did and decided to place an order so that I could use the subscribers discount that was offered as a lure to apply for the card. I placed the order and received $60, as promised, off my first order. Lo and behold the next day my order was put on hold and and the card declined. When I called Synchrony, I was informed that I could not use the card until I received it in the mail. I explained that the card was in my Amazon wallet but was told again that I could not use it until I received it in the mail. How hell would they know if I receive it in the mail.
I asked again why Amazon requested I set it as my default payment. They had no answer just repeated that I could not use the card until I receive it in the mail. Obviously Synchrony has a monitor on my mailbox. They just want to get out of giving the promised perk for applying. I cancelled my card and my Amazon order. I can get the same dutch oven at target for $20 less.

Applied for and was accepted for a Verizon Visa thru Synchrony. Started using and a couple of days later they freeze the account after I called to correct an error they had made in the listed contact phone number. After a long wait to talk to someone's, they said they would mail me a pin and I’d see it in 7-10 business days. Never got it. All the while, can’t use the card. So I called back and after another super long wait they said they would have to mail another pin, which would be an additional 7-10 days. I’m done. They lure you in with the promise of 4% back on groceries which is better than other cards but not nearly worth dealing with the long waits and poorly trained, hard to hear and hard to understand customer service reps who are happy to parrot cue card jargon while demonstrating zero empathy or interest in actually addressing the customer’s concern. Do not recommend this bank or card.

Synchrony Bank has awful practices. Opened a card to purchase furniture, $6k limit. Always pay, and even pay extra to make sure I don't get crushed with interest. For no reason they pull my credit and drop my limit. All of my other credit cards reached out during Covid to see if I needed assistance. They just dropped my limit. 5 months later they did it again!! They are personally responsible for the negative impact on my score. Then I find out today, because I notice $245 in suspicious fees that they have no grace period, so even if your payment shows up 1 day late you are charged $40. I was never notified of being late because it was never more than a few days, mostly because the bank sends it electronically and a weekend hit. Again, no notice, no letter, I just happened to notice a fee. I have placed multiple complaints. I cannot wait to pay this off and never be associated with this criminal enterprise again.

First, I was not told this was a credit card account. That being said I was somewhat taken back when reviewing credit report. I discovered that instead of a installment loan it was a credit card. I had $1700 limit and had charged $1500 plus. So my credit immediately nose dived due to high utilization. Over 50 points in fact. In 5 months I get the balance to $840. Do you know how they reward me with paying on time and making extra payments. They decrease my credit limit from $1700 to $910. Once again pushing my utilization up and credit down by 50 points. This is ridiculous, I'm so glad I wasn't in the middle of a large purchase. I would be livid.
Nothing has changed with my credit report except I have less debt than I did 5 months ago. On time payments at 100% at 21% utilization across all accounts including this one averaged in. I will never use a company that keeps my credit jacked up the entire time the account is active! I will tell others on my podcast The Common Sense Channel not to do business with these folks. Go to Nebraska Furniture and get it on installment instead of a credit card. High pressure deceptive practices only drive volume for a short period. Ask Wells Fargo about how driving volume through opening accounts deceptively turned out for them.

I'm truly confused how this bank can be in business. My experiences have been quite negative. They have charged me late fees when payments were made on time. The most recent issue is a card I got for Discount Tire. They double charged me for the transaction. Then, I tried to make a payment TWICE on the balance and both payments were denied by them. (Not my bank, them.) They were unable to give me a reason. I've called multiple phone numbers, unable to ever reach a human. The automated system hangs up on me. The online chat representatives clearly have no idea what's going on. The first person I chatted with told me I would not be charged a late fee, and then I was. The amount of frustration caused and time wasted by dealing with this institution is really unnecessary. I've cancelled my card and will never do business with them again.

How l can build a good credit if the companies are allowed to do whatever they want, based in what? Send me a letter 10 days later telling me that l am a right risk to pay? I never did this to no-one, because the bank has a weak system to evaluate the customers we have to pay the price. It caused 79 points down on my credit score and also looked my credit with any company that works with this bank. It is a completely absurd! And so you know my bill is 300 dollars, l can pay in one payment. Am l a right risk???? Ridiculous and very disappointed with this bank at all. I never ever will filled any application to them and l God knows.
Everything that goes around turns around. This bank is messing with many people, people that pay, people that suffer some difficulties some times and really work hard to keep up with everything. I wish I could've given zero stars. The thousands of complaints from people each stating the same thing. They will lower and raise your credit card limit and close accounts with no rhyme or reason. So then you are over the reduced credit limit and that goes against your credit score. Paid on time and never even late. They just closed two accounts for no reason. Dropped my credit score 50 points. Before this they lowered the one randomly and then raised it again within 3 months. They say they base it off of "certain factors" but the factors never changed and in fact had gotten better than from when I applied.
Why give it to the consumer in the first place. They are literally damaging people's credit by their random and guidelines that change constantly. The complaints are everywhere when you start searching. This should be illegal what they are doing. Even worse with the lay offs and people not working during COVID the complaints you see these poor people stating they won't work with them at all. To say they are basing the reducing of the credit limits and closing cards off of their ever guidelines then why do you have people ALL saying the same thing? Nothing changed from when they applied. No late or missed payments.
Credit should've never been granted in the first place if that is what you were basing it off of. They are responsible for damaging THOUSANDS of people's credit and even worse to do it during this pandemic! Truly a horrible company, stay away from them. I wish I had. I am surprised a class action lawsuit has not been filed yet. Some law firm will have a hay day.

(As I stated in my other review I had been trying to pay my bill over the phone and the automated would not work so it had me hold for a representative.) She asked my name, I gave it to her, and then she said “Our systems are down and we are asking customers to call back in an hour.” I explained to her that I had been on hold for over an hour, and why was there not a recording announcing this when you call the Synchrony number? This way people would not be on hold only to have a representative pick up and tell them that they had been holding for nothing. Erica was abrupt, impolite, and unapologetic. Just when I thought they could not get any worse, they proved me wrong. Unbelievable.
Original review: I have 3 cc’s with Synchrony Bank. I am at the point where I am seriously considering canceling them. Not so much because of issues with the card per se, but because any time I have to deal with customer service they are awful. Every month I pay my cc bill over the phone, and their automated service is so long and drawn out. It takes 10 mins to get the payment to go through. (Not comfortable paying online) I am now on hold for the past 30 mins because their automated service is not working. When you finally get a service rep, they are completely useless. I only have one star because of their equal payment options, however under 200 is not included. When I tried to pay off my purchase of under 200 I had to jump thru hoops to do this. They advised my payment I made would be applied correctly however they applied to another purchase that was a promotion. When I called they advised it would take up to two statement cycles to be adjusted, this is not what I was originally told. Since they charge 27% percent interest I was concerned, however they keep saying up to two cycles. Don't understand why they don't allow you to allocate payments on their website. The only way to do this is to call and speak to a rep who just repeats back to you what you say to them. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

By the way my credit rating is excellent with Transunion and I have never been late or missed a payment with them, a side note. I have two other accounts with them in good standings that have been paid in full. Is this the way you want to be treated as a consumer? Do they legally have a right to do this considering it can cost me thousands in finance charges as I am in the process of buying a house. We deserve a voice against being bullied by big corporations that can make us or break us as consumers.

I am writing this review to highlight the devious and felonious business practices of QVC and Synchrony Bank. For the past 7 months I received monthly statements where I am being charged for items never received. Every monthly statement I received have exorbitant over limit fees, flex pays added when the flex pays should stop and credited to my account. The over $1,000+ payment I was making every month would never decrease but remain the same $6,000+ on each monthly statement for the past 7 months until the latest one being $7,000+ which I enclosed with a letter to Synchrony Bank showing I better have this amount credited before 60 days.
I will be contacting NY State Attorney General and BBB for support in handling this serious matter. I will not allow QVC/Synchrony Bank to damage my 800 credit rating or take advantage of me during this coronavirus pandemic when losing jobs are at a very high rate. I work in a medical center and was fortunate health wise to work through this first phase without getting sick at 65 years old this past June. I have always paid off every bill each month. Every time QVC customer service rep inform me I will see the credit on next statement, I see QVC/Synchrony Bank have added more flex pays causing each statement to be over the limit and charging me outrageous fees in the process.
UPS and USPS do not bring the boxes to the door of the apartment or leave a slip in the mail box or on the door if no one is home. They would leave all boxes in the lobby in front of the mailboxes where anyone could take your packages. This went on during the months of March through present. QVC was made aware of this the first time I experienced this but yet tack on all flex pays on every monthly statement. QVC =Quit Violating Consumers. QVC presenters claim how easy it is to return items but they don't tell you the full disclosure when it comes to crediting your account. I read other complaints of the same issues and we all cannot be lying.
Walmart dropped that $8 million lawsuit where as every consumer who Synchrony Bank has destroyed their credit should be made to pay for restitution and corrected their wrong. Synchrony Bank uses very deceptive tactics against consumers. I am waiting for a correct statement so that I can continue to pay off my bill each month as I was doing before this pandemic. With another wave coming and Election Day on Tuesday, I am trying my best to "Keep from going under". Everyone Stay Safe and Be Blessed. This too shall pass.

I had the misfortune of getting involved with Synchrony bank as they were partnered as a website's credit card provider. After "taking advantage" of a 1 year no interest offer earlier to purchase a computer for school the nightmare started. Month one I found out the auto enrolled me in a program that was adding an additional $80 every month as an "insurance policy" in case I was injured and couldn't make payments! Not only that but this charge itself wasn't qualified for my no interest promotion and thus immediately begun to accrue interest. It took 7 emails and over 4 hours on the phone to get this taken off.
Still every month I overpaid my bill to the point that I was easily going to have it paid off in 9-10 months no interest no problem. Beginning month four right when my payments were starting to make a dent into the % of used credit this account was bearing they decided to for no reason lower my credit limit to $10 over my current balance!! YUP you guessed it. Tight back at 99% account credit usage and a nice dip to the 'ol credit rating for an account that has nothing but perfect payments. To this there was and still is no real answer aside that Synchrony can do whatever it wants when it wants to its customers, and they will because who cares right? Not them! I tried fighting for days and days but they don't care and will eventually just stop responding.
I guess it shouldn't surprise you that come month 8, after nothing but continued perfect payments they lowered my maximum credit to $20 over my current balance again... Right back at 99% used credit on an account that had basically 10% of the initial credit/balance. Just a prime example of trash bank that will do nothing but try to screw you at every turn even if you are an impeccable customer. After paying off this card my credit was 15 points lower than when I opened it and it has nothing but perfect payments. Why would ANYONE do business with such a garbage company? I honestly avoid websites who partner with Synchrony at this point simply because it shows their own lack of judgement/care for customers.

They would provide me financing and it would be interest free for 90 days (may have been 6 months). How awesome is that? What I'm sure it tells you in the paperwork, which I didn't read through my tears, was that they do charge a late fee, no matter how late, of $28. I would have preferred to pay interest the whole time. But I guess that means they wouldn't get as much money. Greed disguised as compassion. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Moral of the story: 100% on time payments over 3 years, doubled my annual income, same or better credit score from the time I applied for the card, still ended up working against me somehow with Sychrony. I have a Synchrony Credit card with Guitar Center. I make more money than I did when I applied, have made 3 years of on time payments, never late. I got a notification saying my credit limit was changed. I called to see how much it went up by and found out they actually lowered it from 1,100 to 400! I've been making payments to get below the 30% usage and also to increase available credit for a big holiday purchase. That is now out the window as they cut my credit limit significantly. I was almost below the 30% usage and now I'm all the way back up to 80% because of this. I was waiting on my replacement card to ask for an increase, but it went the other direction before I even inquired about an increase.

Customer service sounds like you're on a speaker phone with the speaker very far away - they don't speak much English and have you jump through hoops just to pull up your account: verification code is recited over the phone with no explanation (was I supposed to write it down?), they want your name and address, then spell your name and address, then transfer you to someone else who is in a different department (why, I don't know) who again asks for your name and address, says they need a verification code, blah blah blah. Every other bank is either automated, or the agent looks up the phone number you are calling from and has your info right there. At a minimum they might ask for the account number and then a security word, but not Synchrony Bank. Ten minutes later, and they are still asking for a verification code and my address!
I loved getting the GAP/Athleta rewards on this card, but I have had real difficulty getting credited back on my account for items I have returned on the card. Which is why I called. Zappos says I returned the items, I have tracking that shows they got my return and also an email from Zappos saying refund has been processed. I even got a Synchrony alert saying "a credit has posted on your account"; but when I look online at the account, there's no credit - for this charge or another that was returned to a different vendor. It makes me wonder if they purposely hold onto your money through the billing cycle so you will pay the whole balance including the refunds you are waiting for, OR that they will be able to charge you interest and finance charges on a higher balance that doesn't reflect the returns.
The "chat" agent is virtual, until you complain that "Sydney" didn't answer your question. Then, a "live" agent will come on the line who isn't much better. She wanted the order date, amount, and UPS tracking number to show I had actually returned the items. I told her, "Zappos says they got it, your return has been processed, etc. so this isn't a Zappos problem, but a Synchrony Bank problem." It had already been ten days since Zappos said the credit came through so they should have had it, but they didn't. So, I gave her all the info and she "disputed" the original charge which would be resolved, she said, in up to 60 business days. When she didn't really answer my other question, Alex W. the chat person abruptly ended the call - just clicked off - and I was left with no answer.
When I tried to fill out the survey of my experience (it wasn't going to be a positive experience) a bunch of computer code came up as if someone had disabled that feature - I wonder why?! The dispute process if you have a problem is archaic; you can't dispute charges online, but have to fill out a paper form and fax (!) it to them! One charge, for gym membership charged after the gym closed due to Covid, is still on my account and has not been credited; most credit card companies will charge back the merchant and put it in suspense for you until it is resolved, but not Synchrony. They won't go to bat for you. It worries me if I end up with fraudulent activity on this card, so I am going to cancel it and get a card with a bigger, more reputable bank.

I've had similar issues with Cards I've held for merchants utilizing Synchrony. Seems that their periodic reviews lower credit limits, and now in this case CLOSED the account with no adverse behavior on my part. When I called them, their Customer Care stated that in my Terms & Conditions it says they evaluate accounts every 4 months and this last review gave them a scare so they closed the account (reviewing real estate balances (its a 30 year loan ^)^ that is current), Balances to limits on store cards, lots of cards, etc. Thing is, my credit score was the same then. Nothing has changed except that I'm paying this account down slowly just like every other card I have.
For them, this isn't enough apparently. With two other cards I've held by them (low limits - 3-700 bucks) every few months they'd lower the limit as I paid it down until I finally just closed one of them. Also, they automatically sign you up for their services which automatically adds 10-15 bucks to each billing to 'protect' me should I become sick or jobless. I've declined those services and one would wonder if that's the true reason - because, you know, interest isn't enough... Very frustrating - trying to pay down balances (so that it helps my credit) and they lower limits or cancel with no warning. If you're applying for a store card that use Synchrony - RUN.

I have 7 Synchrony credit cards, mostly because they have taken over other companies and my cards that were originally with a store or other company now belong to Synchrony. I have always made well over the minimum payment, never been late, always stayed below my credit limit. I was one of the lucky ones when Covid hit and was able to keep my job, so paying my bills wasn't an issue. I received a notice from Credit Karma that my score dropped by 48 points in one day, and that ALL of my Synchrony accounts had been closed. Paypal, Amazon, Chevron, Care Credit, Lowes, Old Navy and more. No warning, no call, text, email, nothing, just closed all of my accounts and ruined my credit, overnight. I called and was told there was a letter in the mail to me and that it was a "business decision".
4 days later I still have nothing from the company. It is unbelievable to me that this unethical and damaging company is allowed to operate this way. I hope they get hit with Karma quickly since it sounds like from the reviews they are closing accounts of people who can pay their bills. The kind of customers they should WANT. I am also just disgusted that this is who PayPal, Care Credit and Amazon choose to do business with. To me, this tars them with the same brush of nastiness and bad business as Synchrony itself. I'm sure I will pull myself out of this and get my credit back, but it is pretty hard to make up 48 points. I am going to try and take this further and see if there is some sort of class action that can be filed to recoup the costs the arbitrary closing of these accounts will cause. If anyone was in the middle of trying to refinance their home or get a car their costs will go up significantly thanks to the lower credit score caused by Synchrony.

After my mother died I took the mattress she passed away on as I had bought her that mattress and I just didn't have the heart to throw it away. I left an abusive relationship years later and that mattress was the only thing I had to sleep on. It brought back lots of traumatic memories of my mother dying that I finally decided to get a new mattress but didn't have the cash to buy one so I came in contact with this mattress manufacturer that said they do No Interest/Same As Cash Loans for mattresses for up to 24 months so I signed up. It was a way to donate my mother's mattress to a homeless person that needed a warm bed to sleep on and a way for me not to be attached to the negative memories.
From the start the billing was screwed up. I was supposed to receive a statement in the mail to which never happened. I finally got ahold of the mattress manufacturer to get a contact number to the company so I could try to figure out what was going on. They ended up having the wrong address on file. This caused my bill to be late because I never received a bill. The customer service department stated they would change my billing to defer those payments so I wasn't showing late and start over again the following month. I stated I wanted to make those payments because I had never been late on a bill and didn't want it reporting negatively on my credit.
I have been paying on this "what I thought was a loan but is a credit card," for almost 2 years and still have yet to receive a credit card. I never received one so I had thought this whole time this was a No Interest/Same As Cash Loan that I was paying toward. I could make payments whenever and it would apply to the principal amount until January 2021. I have called continuously to this company and their less than professional and helpful customer service department to try to get the outrageous "interest fees and late fees that continue to accumulate interest" credited and they are NOT helpful.
I finally got fed up last week and recorded the phone call so everyone could hear how rude, unprofessional and disrespectful these 'so called customer service representatives and customer service supervisors' are. The real kicker is when I told them I did not sign up for a credit card and that I never received a credit card. The customer service supervisor stated that she would be sending a new card in the mail. She only did that to be spiteful! Synchrony Home Credit Card Company is fraudulent in the way they conduct business. They are not clear in their contracts, do not provide detailed information, misrepresent the facts of the contract and pretend to help only to have the charges reversed and added back to your account. I have called numerous times regarding the same issue.
Bottom line: THEY DON'T CARE!!! They won't even shut up to listen to what is going on. I continue to record them so I can blast them on social media since they are so disgusting of a company to deal with. I've been trying to pay my balance off but I'm not going if they want to fraudulently charge me $363.52. This is how they fraudulently get your money then if you don't pay it there is the threat of ruining your credit because they have all the power to report inaccurately like they already have. I have always paid my bills on time except with this company supposedly. This company is nothing but a scam.
Whoever wants to go in on a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT please let me know. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been through "hell" with this same company. Please do yourself a favor, save your headache and frustration and DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT THAT SAYS SYNCHRONY ON IT PERIOD!!! WORST COMPANY EVER!!!! Now let me point out I have never, never been late. I have paid above the minimum required amount the majority of each payment. I have been paying in to this company somewhere around 300.00 a month for all these credit cards which I'm not having a problem with doing now.
All of a sudden they're dropping my cards down to $200 telling made they've check my credit Telling me my credit score was too low reflecting as 601. I just bought a car. My credit score is 697. They told me trans America told them it was 601. I called trans America. I obtained a copy of my report. It showed at that time 650. Credit scores don't jump that much in a matter of 2 months. They lied, they are deceitful, and I believe that they initially tell you no credit check, that they go by your annual income to get people to sign up, so it shows a high number of register customers.
Again, originally the online agreement was no credit is required, only an annual income. I provided place of employment. They have dropped me down on Rooms to Go. They judge dropped me down from Sam's club from $700 till a little over $200, rooms to go from 2500 to 200. And I never even used it. The care credit card was shut off no warning. No warning on any of this, none! They lied, they were dishonest, they failed to follow through with the original contract agreement and they need to be held accountable. Never did their online system work. I did not have late payments, but had to call in and make payments over the phone. After the third month that I tried re-entering in my checking account and the payment not working they canceled the card. Mind you I paid on time in full every month, I just tried their online system before having to make a phone call. Well, they took all of my cashback reward. I was going to cancel the card anyway because it feels like a scam. I would advise anyone thinking about getting a Sam's Club Master Card, Credit Card using Synchrony Bank to NOT!! SCAM would be a nice term for what this is, at the very least it was very poor customer service, and a rotten banking experience.

I had several accounts with Synchrony and for no reason they closed all my accounts. They said in a letter risk to payback. What a joke. I always paid my balance in full. Sometimes I did carry a balance but not for very long. I had a Amazon account and they also closed it. Dear public consumer don’t do business with Synchrony. I personally feel that it was a actual person who closed everyone’s account. Don’t know how however. I hope they go out of business. My advice find a good credit card company and make your purchases with them instead of Synchrony.

My husband and I both have a Care Credit/Synchrony card, separate accts. One of ours was recently paid off and the payment was made before the time and never late in the years of having it, but when it came to putting the credit limit back to match the payment amount, they didn't. Money was paid from out bank acct immediately and they received it, but didn't put credit limit back to amount. Not only that, but they had numerous amounts they were saying that was still owed and it changed based on a couple of days. When confronted about this, they came up with more excuses and no offering of facts to back their statements. No set time line and stories were never the same, even twice, and by different people.
We have no intention of ever using the card again since the lies and deceit used by the company. They get the money, change numbers, and can't give an honest and factual date of when things will be zero and credit limit back to the amount. They are righteous when it comes to money you owe them, but anything else and they don't want to deal with you and want to lie and make things up as they go. We pay what we owe, they charge high interest, maybe they should be charged for falsifying information. Once this is handled, this acct will be closed and NOT use another synchrony acct ever again.

Not only do they have their own fraud department and investigation department, they do not work with the police departments cause most do not have this type department because banks have their own.
As consumers we have rights and they believe just because they have almost every department store credit card account, they can treat us like crap. There are several other ways to get what you need. I have had a Care Credit Card for many years. I was never late with payments and always paid my card off. I was an excellent customer. During COVID my score decreased a little due to missing payments of other cards until my unemployment finally went through. Care Credit just used that score from freaking July and decided to just close my account. This is absolute bull. And in doing so, that lowered my score again. DO NOT APPLY FOR THEM. Use a different card to pay vet or medical bills.

As many others have posted, we are experiencing the same problems with Synchrony. Every time we pay off a credit card, they close the account the following month. We have never been late and recently began paying off well more than the minimums to where we could pay off many cards. Instead of keeping the accounts opened, Synchrony closes them. We have had many cards held by Synchrony. Not only is this place giving themselves a bad name, but they are also giving the merchants a bad name. We will never recommend Synchrony or get another card again. After all, even if you are responsible and make the payments or pay off your card(s), they either lower the balance or completely close the account. Such a terrible practice. Terrible customer service.

Despite their announced "10 minute" wait time, I was on hold for over 20 minutes before a person picked up. Her name was something like Deela, but she didn't say it clear enough for me to hear it. I tried to explain that Synchrony Bank (CareCredit) has erroneously charged me $279 in late fees for a year now. She began to snap. Every time I tried to say something, she would cut me off and talk over me. I tried to explain that my bank sends the payment around the first of every month (Synchrony keeps changing the actual due date making it difficult), but even 1 to 2 days late should have a grace period. However, she wouldn't listen, she just kept interrupting me, talking over me loudly.
She was being so terribly rude that I wanted to speak with someone else. Snarkily, she claimed she was going to transfer me, but hung up on me instead, knowing most people aren't going to call back and wait on hold a half hour to clear the air. She was a disgusting display of how not to treat customers. She should NOT be in customer service in any company. It seems pretty obvious that she "dropped the transfer" so that I would NOT be able to speak with someone else, much less complete the survey at the end giving her a bad score.

Platinum Home Remodeling uses Synchrony Bank Financing for home remodeling. We secured financing thru them for electrical work on our home. Synchrony assured us that we had to give the final approval when the work was finished. They released our $12,500.00 WITHOUT our permission AND BEFORE the work was completed. Platinum bailed on the job & to this day they have NOT completed the job plus the work is shoddy & we have problems with the electrical. We disputed this with Synchrony & they did nothing except said it would take 60 days.
During this time Platinum went around the dispute & ran our credit without our permission! I filed a fraud complaint with Synchrony & again they did nothing! We now have an 18 month 0% but retroactive back to day 1 if not paid in full or be charged 26.99% interest! We will NEVER do business with Synchrony Bank or Platinum Home Remodeling ever again! I have been doing business with Synchrony Bank for several years and have had nothing but the best experience with them. I'm disabled and have 3 different cards with synchrony. I love that I can make several payments a month keeping my balance down and pay my full at the end of every month, what I still owe so no interest and using the automated system to pay using my debit card is so easy, fast and free. My payment is always added to my account as soon as I make the payment, same day. I don't have a bank account but from what I have learned it takes the payment longer to be received and added to your account when using a check, money order.
People should get a prepaid debit card to make their payments because it's so much easier, faster for your payment to hit your account and like I said the payment is added right then during the call through the automated system. I use my Amazon prime rewards card a lot because the rewards are great,5% cashback and I get a lot of my family, pet needs at Amazon. Especially since I pay full balance every month there is never any interest to pay. So I usually have $40 to $50 in rewards every month and that's great. I only have 4 credit cards and that's plenty to help my credit score which is in the low 700. I don't have anything bad on my report but I do, have used too much of my credit line which will affect your credit score sometimes if you don't keep your credit utilization below 30%.
Also I don't think a lot of people understand that when they have several different credit cards that each card reports at different times of the month and so everything you owe on each card every time one is reported to the credit bureaus all of your cards usages is reported, recorded on your credit report, credit utilization. So you really have to pay attention to your credit utilization since your credit usage is being reported a few times during a one month period. Some people probably think like I use to that all credit card companies report at the same time once a month. They don't. Understanding when each of your credit cards are reported will help you a lot to keep your credit utilization down by keeping your balance down before each report. I hope I explained this good enough so people can understand. I wish I knew at first but now I do. I don't understand some of the bad reviews.
But some looks like people just don't know how to use their card responsibly or may have too many cards, too much debt, credit utilization being high more than 30%. I don't know. I just know Synchrony Bank has been good to me and I've never had a problem with them. I have contacted customer service a few times to ask a question and have always been treated very good by the representative I talked to. I have nothing but good things to say about Synchrony Bank.

I check my account and sure enough I can’t even get into the app. I get a message that I need to go to the website. I am thinking that maybe it was closed because I hadn’t used it and it’s been sitting at a $0 balance for several months during COVID.
On 9/4 I write Synchrony Bank and explain this, requesting that they reopen my account and ask why they didn’t at least notify me beforehand. On 9/7/2020 I get a response that it was closed “based on their evaluation of their ‘sound’ credit scoring system” and that “a letter was sent on 9/2/2020 and will further explain the details surrounding my account”. Makes no sense. My credit score has increase since I received the Care Credit card, I have 100% on-time payments for all of my creditors, including Synchrony, and have 0 derogatory accounts. Furthermore, they mail the letter on 9/2/2020 knowing full well the letter would not be received in time, and over a holiday weekend at that. They charged $25 in Nov 2019 which is within 14 months they cited so that fell on deaf ears. Guess what I get in the email today? A letter from Synchrony Bank that their decision was due to "no recent activity on this account" and "Number of months since last purchase on this account".
I went to make a payment for an item on eBay and my PayPal card was declined? Huh, so I go check and account is closed, no warning, nothing. I then went to check all accounts thru them and every one of them is closed without any notification, call, email, snail mail, text, just nothing. Mind you, this is a shock, inconvenience and will reflect negatively on my credit, no account payments were late and several of them reward money I saved to use for the holidays or later, all gone. Almost $700 in total which is 100% thievery. I earned those, I paid interest charges so I am beyond livid.
In today's times, that is extremely cruel. They made money hand over fist with me for years and they couldn't give me warning to use my points and rewards or lose them? How is that even legal? Sure it is mean but it is stealing, pure and simple. I guess I will be getting snail mail notifications about why they closed these accounts I used and paid on every month. First I had to get an affidavit notarized by my bank because I didn't own a smart phone, only a flip phones. Then we followed all the procedures only to not have an answer the day of the Dental Surgery to pay our dental bill so I had to put on my regular credit card. Then when all the paperwork came by mail regarding the account along with the card, I could not find any information pertaining to how long my debt would be deferred based on $4,000. Would it be 6, 12,18, or 24 months and then I read that all other non promotional purchases would be charged interest at 26.99% Interest!
When I tried to chat to get the answer I got a short reply from a rep that posted only the phone number to call... so I called, then the rep told me that I need to put my mother on the line...I did but then they said she had to stay on the line and apparently I could not ask the question and get the answer, it had to be my mother who doesn't hear well and need assistance but they never allowed me to talk to them in order to get my question answered. They kept playing games that they can not talk to me, only my mother... SO Frustrating!!!
I told them to close the account because they were very sketchy about a simple question that should be clearly posted in the card holder documents, about how long the interest would be deferred on a qualified purchase. Should be SIMPLE but we never could find out the truth.... I am glad to get out now as I can only imagine that my first bill would show 26.99% Interest charged and I would never get a resolved without paying in full. IF it is this hard to get a simple question answered, I am glad not to have thousands of dollars subject to such a rip off interest rate.... Called to check on July 31st and was told the cards were mailed July 29 2020. I received the cards yesterday 8/3/2020 and proceeded to activate them and add them to my digital wallets (Google and Apple Pay). Adding the card to Google Pay was a breeze, took less than 30 seconds. The nightmare started when I went to add the card to apple pay which was yesterday around 7:20pm. The apple digital wallet stated the only option to validate the card was to call the bank, which is rare but I proceeded to call, was told a link needed to be sent to my phone via text, the link then proceeded to have me fill out my information, take a 5 second video of my face and upload the front and back side of my driver license.
When I went to do this latter part the software made it to where I was unable to upload my driver license. The customer service person acted like he didn't have a brain in his head, got a supervisor on the line who in turn said she can make an exception, send me a code from a LexisNexis email which I read back to her and told me that from her end everything was set. The next morning I went to my apple pay wallet and the card was still not active, so I called again only to be told I needed to be sent a code by no other means than snail mail. So now I sit here wondering if I have to wait another near month just to have my card added to apple pay. See the nightmare? I have other credit cards and never had an experience like this.
I've already lost 5 hours of my time trying this only to hit a dead end plus typing this. Yes this is very unacceptable and incompetent thus I will be switching carriers soon. I hear the merger between Sprint and T-Mobile has made their network a sweet deal to try. Today August 7 I was at Maverick in Aurora Colorado, went there to buy gasoline and my card was declined. You know how embarrassing that is? So, I'm done. Maybe I should have never applied for this card, but I did in good faith thinking it would be a good thing, now I have to say; how wrong I was. When I called to ask why, the customer service representative sounded like he was reading me a script and sounded very condescending. I will now be canceling my service with them.

Today I applied for a Care Credit card due to needing 14 extractions in preparation for dentures. I first entered my information via the 1-800 number and was declined. Thinking this had to be a mistake because of my very high Fico score, I reapplied via the website. Yes, also declined with a message that I would receive a written notice in 7-10 business days with the reasons. I phoned both Care Credit and Synchrony Bank but both representatives could offer no assistance. Unbelievable and very unhappy!!

I’ve had the Pep Boys credit card through Synchrony bank for a couple years. I made a large purchase which I paid off. Never had a missed it even late payment. I just received notification they closed my account posting several vague reasons such as “not enough real estate...” All of these reasons are the same as when I was approved for the card in the first place. I called customer service and was told there’s nothing they can do and the reason is in the letter I received. They couldn’t elaborate on the reasons at all. Would not recommend their services to anyone.
My credit decreased due to the closing of this account and actually put my credit into the next lower category. One of the reasons why I got this card was to help increase my credit after a messy marriage & divorce and note they’ve actually hurt it. Now my credit utilization and open accounts look worse than they should (for the record I’m at 17% utilization so it’s not like I was abusing my cards).

This company uses predatory tactics in the middle of pandemic to impose 30% interest on people. Furthermore, they are breaking the law by charging service members 30% interest when the Service member relief Act caps interest at 9%. They use promotional interest rates to get people in the door and raise the interest to 30%. I was never warned. They hide it within the contract. Please beware. I called to get them to lower the interest rate and they laughed me off the phone.

I received a notification from my credit score monitor that Synchrony Bank closed my Discount Tire account and my score had decreased by 1 point. I called customer service and spoke with Jeff. He could not give me a reason for this and told me I should get a letter in the mail explaining it. I then escalated to manager Angela. She stated it was because I had a zero balance and no recent activity? I have a credit score in the 820's, and no debt. What a terrible explanation and even more terrible practice by Synchrony.

I will no longer be a Synchrony Bank customer. After being a loyal customer for years, they have closed all my accounts. I Always pay on time, keep my balances low, and have a credit score of 755. I have given them absolutely no reason to believe I'm a "high risk ", which is the reason they stated for the closure of my accounts. So after years of loyalty to them this is how it ends, by them ruining my credit score. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, the FTC and contacting my congressman. If you're looking for a reputable credit card company, synchrony bank is not one of them. I would avoid them at all costs!

They don't provide online CLOSING instructions but continuing business on their CD LINE. Not even to closing and transfer to an account within their business lines. Took me 30 minutes to place that instruction through phone, through 3 support posts (last in the country!) with their system not being able to send a text to the mobile I was calling from. Nor they were able to send text to a VOIP alternate number that is text capable. In the end they called and provided the security code to the same voice line I was calling. The overseas support has no training for retention and therefore don't work hard to satisfy the customer. I promised I'll write this review with the intent to direct others not to do this business with them. From personal practical experience, do it when rates are better with Ally, Marcus, Merrick, PurePoint.

Outrageous interest rates! This card balance will never get paid off as balance is overtaken by excessive interest charges. This is a type of card that should only be used for medical or veterinary or dental emergencies for large amounts and not allowed to accrue. Pay off quickly.

This bank constantly pushes for electronic transactions ONLY. They want to send only electronic statements, receive electronic payments, and use only electronic messaging whenever possible. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why. It's a numbers game - all and only about their bottom line. This month I did not receive my electronic statement (probably my fault) so what does this electronic emphasis only company do when my payment was late? You guessed it; they locked me out of my account so I could not review the statement unless I first paid over the phone. Let me see if I got this correct, electronic statement was not available, the wizards running the customer service refused to allow me access to the statement UNLESS I first paid a bill I have yet to see. I am not a happy camper!

I used Synchrony to finance half the value of a furniture set I purchased. They offered a 0% interest rate as long as I paid it off within a year. Awesome! Once I paid down most of what I owed - they cut my 'credit limit' in half leaving only $30 of available credit. When I called they said they will mail a letter explaining. I never used the credit, nor did I ever authorize my card for future purchases. I always paid a lot more than the minimum. Lowering my credit limit by 50% makes it look like I have a MAXed out card ignoring the $700 I already paid!! You are no use to them once they realize you are paying down your debt early.

Synchrony did not honor the payoff amount they had on my account page. This company is saying I owe them late fees of $200 although the payoff amount on my account page was $1921 (I have a screenshot). It is disgusting that during a pandemic they continue to assess late fees even though I have emailed them about not working and they still insist on adding late fees. The amount of the actual purchase was over $7,000 and they have received all the money for their merchandise and more. Their response back to my email is that it will take 2 months or 20 days to respond meanwhile my credit score is being affected every billing cycle. DO THE RIGHT THING SYNCHRONY!!

I have had Synchrony Bank for about 5 years. I have a $5000 credit (between both cards). I have never been late on a payment and never had a high balance. I was furloughed this summer from work due to Covid and because I didn’t receive unemployment, I utilized my Capitol One credit card more than I wanted to. My credit took a small ping and went down due to all these conditions. Because of this credit change, Synchrony bank took it upon themselves to close one of my accounts and lowered my credit to what I owe on my other account which is a furniture card.
Really no ones business but now I’m back to work and trying to close on my house.... They pulled my credit report on the closing day and my credit score was down drastically due to them closing my card and lowering my credit limit on the other one and making my credit to earnings ratio go down!! I was denied! Not because of late payments or derogatory accounts but because my available credit was about $4000 less than it was 3 weeks ago and it dropped my credit score.
This is crap and I feel like Synchrony could have waited until after this whole pandemic thing was over before you started playing God to other people’s lives. Especially your customers who haven’t done anything wrong. This company must be hurting for money so, now that I got denied my house, I will use a part of my down payment to pay off this stupid Synchrony credit card’s $1100 balance. Today I ran into two horrid experiences, first one I found out a huge fraud charge to my account that was never even used or registered to my shock. The second one was just as unpleasant when attempting to communicate with their representatives who are disrespectful and unwilling to fulfill one very small request once the report was filed. I was informed (once again) they resort to using lousy USPS snail mail in the distant future to send me the follow up details when all I asked for was for the purpose of my call today, they at least email me (or text) just a summary of what they did (or CLAIMED) to do... such as close the account and zero out the charge while they take their time to investigate the fraud claim.
EVERY person I talked is like speaking with a robot, they simply claim and refuse to send an email confirmation or text because they "cannot". This is a common tactic and practice in so many areas. Even when asking for a confirmation or case number they make it abundantly clear they CANNOT. What it really means is they WILL not. So I have to swallow their B.S. with their verbal promises they carried out things on their end but I the customer have no right to at least get a simple email because more than likely their legal department has this all wrapped up due to their own "liability". So it's win-win for the bank bullies?
I feel this is an illegal practice that needs immediate investigation with these crooked banks and provide the customers with decency and respect by providing us with a tangible transcript after the conversation instead of having to "take their word for it". Beware. Remember these people who answer the phones are simple clerks with absolutely no skill or professional training and sadly it shows.

I recently tried to apply for a Lowe's Home Improvement credit card which is through Synchrony Bank. After giving the cashier the application information, she reported back that the application was denied. After several hours of sitting on hold or being transferred I was able to talk to a bank representative about the application. She informed me that it was not denied that they just needed to verify some more information. I was sent to a verification website where they captured my picture and a picture of the front and back of my drivers license. (Not sure what they were verifying my identity with - what databases would have my picture and my drivers license photo).
After all of this I was approved for $500. I have a credit score of over 850. I have other credit cards with Synchrony that are in excellent standing. When I asked why all the verification and difficulty for $500 - the agent told me it was because I had Identify Protection. Yes I do and I still question how the additional verification was going to actually verify I was who I said I was. It was all done with a cell phone. If they needed to verify my identify would not it have been better to ask the cashier to verify that my ids (drivers license and military ID) matched who was standing in front of them. Very confusing process. I cancelled all my Synchrony Bank accounts.

I have had the Amazon Prime Store Card offered by Synchrony Bank for the past few years. I have made a few late payments but always stayed caught up. If you miss your scheduled payment by 2 days, their account representatives in India call and harass you, even call you at your place of business forcing you to "promise" to pay and select a date. I'm not sure why they have this nervous habit but recently was the final straw when I was late by one day and they punitively lowered my credit limit by 500.00 as soon as I paid the card down to 100.00 balance left in one sitting.
DO NOT use these swindlers for anything or do business with their terrible company. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with a 100.00 account where the customer "service" harasses you every 5 minutes, but I'll probably close it completely.
