I've had great customer service with Nationstar. I had to call several times for help getting my mortgage payment set up to come out of my checking account automatically. Each time the person who helped me was pleasant, helpful and easy to talk to and ask questions! The only thing I have to say a little negative is I refinance my home loan with Nationstar which is where my condo was finance with anyway. The person who I worked with originally was very helpful. At that time my concern was having any out of pocket expense. I was told with my record of payment history there would be NO money out of pocket for me. The refi expense would be worked into the loan.
As time came for the loan closure, I was told I needed to have $750.00 available at closing. I told Suzanna who was my contact that I didn't have that kind of money available. After several phone calls I was told that most of the cost would be rolled into my loan, but I still needed to have $179.00 available at closing. Also, told I would get some of that back after old mortgage was released. I did get back $145 back after a month. Thank you!!

Overall, I'd rate NSM as "meh." Their rates are middle of the pack, so no points there. The website seems to be aimed at people with poor credit or first-time home buyers, so I feel a little bit degraded when I visit. They get a point against for that. Fortunately, I don't have to visit often since my bank's online bill pay sends my payment every month. On that note, though, sometimes due to how the business days fall, the payment is not processed until after Nationstar would like for it to be. As a result, they sic their collections dogs on you, who hound incessantly until the payment is processed. Another (rather large) point against, the online system does not play nice with Mint, my chosen financial management tool, so I have to manually log in for updates rather than having these be automatic. A point against.
The main thing that NSM has going in their favor is that they did make it quick and easy to refinance our loan that was already with them. Since we're not planning to stay in the house long enough to justify the cost of refinancing with another lender, they earned a positive point for this. Like I said in the beginning, an overall "okay" lender. There are ones I would prefer, I'm sure there are ones I would not.

Since renewing my loan several months ago I been having a problem with my monthly payments. I been with this company for several years. I always had my monthly payments automatically debited from my checking account, never been late on payments. Since renewing my loan i went through the same procedure to have payments withdrawn automatically monthly. I get calls on a monthly basis saying my payment is late. I was told they did not have that information about automatic withdrawals. I repeated this process three times. I was told every time payment was submitted to my account it was reversed. Hard to believe monies was always there.

Never had a problem. They are courteous, customer service is easy to access, never have gotten a run around. I am probably an unusual customer. I went through a bankruptcy (Chapter 11) and Nationstar stood by me the whole way and when I came out of bankruptcy, Nationstar immediately helped me lower my interest rate and monthly payment. I have heard some negative remarks on Nationstar, but they are like everything else in this world. They are what you make them out to be. But if you work with them they will or have in my case bent over backwards to help and keep me as a customer, even when I thought they might not. I would recommend them to anyone who is thinking of buying or refinancing.

I refinanced my mortgage last year. The process overall was good. However, too many people got involved, constant turnover, paperwork was redundant… Received several copies of duplicated work & advised to discard 90% of what I received. Real wasteful. One minor annoyance - when paying online, if I wish to pay before the 1st of the month, I have to pay a fee. If I pay late, no charge. Doesn't make any sense.

I was locked out of online information and could not pay through the automated phone center, I was transferred always to a customer service person and charged more to talk to them to take the payment. MY bankruptcy was discharged and I did an in-house modification of my loan and was able to start paying through the automated. After almost a year of paying this way I suddenly was not able to pay anymore. Now I get transferred every time and pay 19.00 a month instead of 14.00 which you can pay all your bills online and never get charged a fee. What the hell is wrong with this company? Many people have had problems and this is the worst company I have ever had to deal with for the amount of the fees. I think this company should be looked at and there is something wrong with them that you cannot pay your payment directly out of your checking account to their account.
This is not a good company to be with and their customer service people treat you like crap and as I had told one person my payment pays their salary and they need to treat people with more respect. If I can get away from this company I will do and run like hell. I hate to even think of calling them when my payment is due, I get so stressed out to even think of it. I did not receive any calls or messages from her saying if she’s on a vacation or something. At the end, I think I did receive it. But I was wondering why something like that has happened.
Also, my old insurance keep telling me that Nationstar did not pay for the last year. Looks like the whole process was not done and completed. And that shouldn’t be my issue. My recent refinance was a fairly pleasurable experience. I worked with two very nice people who provided great customer service. Unfortunately the whole experience was marred by my loan person telling me not to pay my payment for December. The closing was 12/19. I got three calls regarding a late December payment. The first guy was very rude and didn't care about the refinance or that I had been instructed by my loan officer not to pay it. The other two were nicer but still wanted payment. I shouldn't have gotten any calls at all and they certainly should have stopped after the first one. Please make it so your departments can communicate.

I received a letter asking me to refi. Then I got a call. I looked into this a few months ago but the fees were too high for a loan of this size (67K). After discussion the fees are still too high. Then 3 more sales people called me. 1) Why would you give the same name or list to at least 4 different people to call and 2) why would you contact me for the same loan if the fees are still the same. Since the loan is currently with you, why not drop the high rate a bit without charging a lot of fees? Bad business.

I have a strong negative reaction to people fishing for my refinancing. Nationstar's sales rep did not try to sell but to understand my prior experiences and why I was reluctant to go through the process. In November 2014, I called Nation Star to make them aware that the bank had made an error on my account sending out two mortgage payments to them instead of one. I requested that they please refund the money to me so I could have money to buy Christmas for my children. I was told that Nation Star had received two payments on my account. This request would be sent to a review board and the money should be refunded within 7-10 days. After not receiving the refund, I called Nation Star again to inquire about what had happened. The person I spoke to on the phone said that she saw where it had been notated that I called and made the request and it went before board and they approved it...but no check was sent to me. Nothing happened. She offered to send me the check and I would receive it in about 5 days. At this point, it would not have helped with Christmas, so I requested that the money be posted to my account for the next month's payment. I said it two or three times to confirm she understood to credit my account.
January 12, I received a check from Nation Star refunding the mortgage payment. The check was dated Dec. 23, the day I had called about no refund. I called Nation Star again to ask why I was receiving a check, when I had asked that it be posted to my account. They looked and saw where it had been notated that I had called and requested a credit. No credit was made in a timely manner, making my payment late. She said she didn't know what had happened. I had to deposit the check into my checking account, wait for it to credit, then pay my mortgage. I had to borrow money from a relative to buy presents for my children because someone at your company dropped the ball. I was late with my mortgage payment, because someone at your company did not do as they said they would. I've never seen such incompetence. It was a simple request.

But I wouldn't do it again with them. They started in June and didn't end until December. Six months to do a refinancing on property that they already are financing was ridiculous. They went into my credit report twice. Ridiculous. Then right on November 11 I had paid $800 to my previous mortgage then the next day we winded up refinancing. So that $800 is still floating in Nationstar somewhere. They're telling me I have to send them the check from the bank that they cashed it, which they did. Tanya--I had a little surprise when we were doing our closing. She failed to mention that she miscalculated, and my payment ended up being a couple dollars a month more than what she quoted me so I wasn't happy about that. I already talked to them about that and I know why the money is there. If they had called me and said 'hey this is what happened,' no problem, but I was left to be surprised. Nationstar acquired my mortgage from Bank of America about a year and a half ago. I've been receiving notifications in the mail about different options for my existing mortgage. I inquired about refinancing because my rate was at 6% and want to reduce it and shorten my term. My loan is qualified in their program so they made it a very easy solution to refinance.
The very first gentleman I worked with was fantastic and he was very clear about the terms, expectations, timelines, getting everything in order and processed everything quickly. The next stage for the actual loan closing, I felt like I had to reach out more versus having information provided to me. I had to push a little bit more on the second person but we ultimately got there, so it was fine. My overall term was reduced, taking off 8 years on my mortgage term, reducing my interest rate, and getting a greater value for my mortgage. The payment now didn't really change much, but more of it is going to my principal versus paying more interest.

Bank of America sold this loan to Nationstar several years ago. So I was already a customer of Nationstar when they contacted me about refinancing my loan and my understanding was it was because of my excellent payment history and that this was out there for people in my buying timezone and interest rate timezone that they thought this would work for me. At first, I didn’t understand why they would be wanting to redo my mortgage. But I understand now that there is incentive bought from the original Fannie Mae company for this to be accomplished. It was a settlement thing. Anyway, it took me a while to wrap my head around that, why would they be doing it, but they did it and it’s done. It’s beautiful, it’s $105 less a month, and I’m happy with that.
It was very easy. Everything was well handled through telephone and email communications. I didn’t see anyone other than the actual person (a very nice girl that worked for a local company) who had to witness and verify the signatures on the documents, but it was great. It was painless and that’s important to people who are looking to do something like this. And the timing was right for us, too. We had realized that we weren’t gonna be selling at the price we needed anytime soon. The market for our particular unit isn’t looking great right now, but that could change in a year, who knows. But in the meantime, we’re in a better position to make improvements and do things we need to do.

I got a letter saying Nationstar bought my mortgage and I refinanced with them because it's easier since I was already with them. It was really quick, really easy and streamlined.

Nationstar is good. I was transferred to Nationstar from my original Bank of America mortgage about a year ago. I have a five-year adjustable rate mortgage, and before expiration, Nationstar Mortgage offered me another extension of five on even lower rate, so I'm quite satisfied.

I was looking at refinancing my mortgage so I can lower interest rate. I was already with Nationstar and they decided to give me that option. The representative I worked with was always available and even though I got probably a little obnoxious and challenging to him, he gave me solid answers and would inquire and search out answers if he didn't have any. Mortgage stuff is confusing to the average person. Ultimately even though it didn't seem to line up with what my representative said within three or four months, or five months, after the contract’s all done, everything did line up. Hopefully with continuing to pay the amount that I was paying before pretty close, I would be seeing a quicker dropping in the amount.

Nationstar has been servicing my loan for many years. I did a refinance to pass my loan quicker, set a lower payment and get better interest rates. And also for convenience since they've been comparable to what other people were gonna be charging. I had a very limited interaction, on email, but it was efficient. They did a good job and to the point. I'll be paying it off significantly quicker so that will save me a lot of money.

I refinanced my mortgage because I wanted to get the lower rate. There was a lot of back and forth but all was necessary due to the new restrictions on providing loan information. The underwriter needs a lot more now than they used to. But nothing was unreasonable. Everything went amicably. It was smooth and didn’t take too long. We closed in less than 30 days and I was able to cut my monthly payment in half.

I appreciate the professionalism of your staff, and their knowledge of the rules concerning my mortgage; also the fact that she was concerned enough about my situation that she was able to refer me to others that would possibly be of help to me.

Nationstar was the company that was financing the brand new house that we moved into. We wanted to drop the PMI so we refinanced with Greenlight and didn’t know that they were the same company. But it made it easier though as it kept it all in the same thing. The first guy I talked to was good. He was on the ball. But dealing with his helper was like pulling teeth to get all the right information over. Nevertheless, Nationstar was good and easy to work with and now we’re not paying as much as we were.

I was with a mortgage broker and then refinanced for a lower interest. Nationstar mortgage professionals were courteous. Since then I had lower payments. But my overall experience was not so good.

My mortgage was sold to Nationstar. There were things I didn't understand about the modification program I was on but the mortgage professionals were good, I had no trouble with them at all. I pay my payments on time and I got a thing to see about credit life but it's only accident. My payments are a little higher than I would like, but it's fine and I'm happy.

Our experience with the Nationstar people was excellent. The loan originator Carl whom I talked to initially and that did the paperwork, and the person whom I had contact with after that that was handling any problems and that type thing were excellent. However we had two different people who came for the signing, the man was wonderful but the woman was so terrible we almost decided not to do it on the spot.

It's been so long ago when my mortgage was with another company and it was sold to Nationstar. I refinanced because I wanted a lower interest rate. The customer rep was knowledgeable about the options given to me. He made it easy for me to understand. Since then I had lower interest rates and a little less payment monthly. It was fast, smooth going and a very easy process. I'm quite happy where it is now.

Nationstar’s process was really good when I refinanced up until after we closed everything else. I received two checks in the mail. Both of them from either Greenlight or Nationstar. They put a stop payment on one of the checks without telling me, and so that cost me money from my bank. Then the next check went through. I called them about it and talked to a supervisor. She said, “I will call you back this afternoon.” I’m still waiting on that call, and that was a month ago. But other than that everything else was great. Overall, I was very happy with the whole process, on how easy it was, their closing cost and how little I had to bring to the table.

I am very unhappy with NationStar. I have been working for over 3 months to have my current mortgage reduced. The "dedicated loan officer" I was assigned to had dropped the ball and I received a letter stating I had been denied due to not giving requested documents. After no return calls and several left messages for the loan officer, I spoke with someone else. Now I have to start the process all over again. I am extremely unhappy. I have all documentation submitted along with each request I received but I must start all over again because no fault of my own...

Our loan was sold to them. They weren’t our primary lender. Wanting to lower our payment we refinanced through them. It was a HARP refinance. It was a good experience. They explained everything well. Only thing is they call when your payments are not even late yet to see if it's coming.

Originally, I had a Countrywide Mortgage which got bought by Nationstar. I got a call from somebody from Nationstar offering to do the HARP program. I had an auditing and then had a tax lien on mine. Everything was great with the application until it came to do with the tax liens, and Nationstar did very, very slowly to the point where I had to get two renewals on my tax lien subordination agreement, which is very difficult dealing with the IRS. So even after it had been approved, and to have them told I had a hard deadline (IRS) I had to close by, the application did not meet the deadline. Everybody was fine, but they just ignored the fact that there were hard deadlines that I had no control over. My monthly load is cheaper, so that's good and I'm glad they contacted me to tell me about HARP to begin with, but then once we began, the process took almost a year. Literally. From start to finish, it was October of one year to September of the following year.
