Like many others, I was surprised that McAfee took $127.94 from my credit card via their auto renewal scam. We have four children and six personal computers in the house. I do not have the time to keep track of them all. The $127.94 was taken for my oldest daughter's machine. This is a horrible practice and I am disappointed that they would do this, particularly during this time.

Got a laptop last year with free software. Then Mcafee decide to continue taking payments without my permission. I was never notified and the payment was took, 2 phone calls later to only get back a part refund. Had to raise as a fraud case with my bank. The software is no better than the standard anti virus software on windows 10, so save your money. The contact centre are useless, rude, and don’t stop talking you through their sales rubbish. They won’t listen and barely understand English.

So, when I got my brand new gaming computer, I got a free trial of McAfee. This trial lasted a month, and once it ended McAfee started putting hundreds of pop ups on my computer telling me to renew the product. I had gotten a better Anti-Virus (Norton) and didn't want McAfee anymore so I kept clicking 'Accept Risk' and 'Ok' to all of the pop ups. But yesterday one of these pop ups had only one option I could click: 'Buy Now'. the pop up covered the entire right hand side of my screen, and I had to restart my computer to get rid of it. Furthermore with McAfee, I found out they have been charging me ever since then even though I'm not actually receiving the Anti-Virus Software.
When I questioned the support team, it turned out how just about every other bad review said it was, except with my experience they were denying the fact that they used pop ups as a way to influence people to buy their product. If you ever buy this product, you may as well cancel your card and switch banks because you CAN'T GET A REFUND OR CANCEL THE PAYMENTS! They would try to charge you until you die, and even after that they would take money from your life insurance for a product that you don't receive or need. I hope people actually notice how much they are being charged instead of writing reviews that make the company seem as though it's the best thing since sliced bread. Thanks for reading (if you read the whole thing) and just remember to not sign up for it because it's a downright scam.

I bought a new computer this time last year. McAfee was installed on it automatically with the purchase. Not something I opted for but I decided to go with it. This morning I woke up to a charge of $128.39 to my bank account. They did now notify me of this renewal fee, "which they say they will do before making a renewal fee charge". I searched for a notification that a pending charge will be made in case I missed it. There isn't one!! Also, I can't make sense of my subscription. I have a computer and a smartphone on it... but when I go into my McAfee subscription it only shows one device, the computer, but when I go into my phone it is there. This is dodgy and confusing. I don't like it... AT ALL AND THIS MAKES ME NOT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

Around March of 2020 my computer died. I had purchased a service contract with McAfee in December of 2019. In June of 2020 I purchased a new computer but did not find out until September of 2020 that McAfee's service was not compatible with my new computer. I asked for a refund for the unused portion of my service contract and was basically told to screw off. I have spoken with other people who have paid for services from McAfee and been told that this is very common from them. I would suggest nobody waste their money on any service from McAfee. You will not get the service you pay for.

I received an email about two months BEFORE my subscription was going to expire. I did NOT want to continue with their service. I went into my account and verified that "auto-billing" was turned OFF and yet I received a bill on my card this month for another year. When I called I was read a "script" which didn't address my concerns. After a couple minutes of being deflected and ignored, I hung up. I can not recommend this company based on their fraudulent billing practices.

UPDATED 8/24/2020: I apologize that I complained about not receiving my refund $119.06 as McAfee put it on an account that is closed. They issued me a credit so will have to see how this works out as I not longer have that credit card.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: McAfee claimed they no longer support Total Protection and I should get LiveSafe and they would refund $119.06. That was 10 days ago and I have contacted them twice and all it get is, "it was processed on 8/12/20." Well they processed my plan change but NO refund and seems like they just stole my money. I purchased McAfee to prevent unwanted commercial intrusions on my PC, but once installed McAfee is the worst offender of e-mail spamming and on-screen intrusions. There are time consuming and complicated methods of preventing these intrusions, but with new release updates the old corrections are reversed and new corrections continue to become more difficult. McAfee should not claim to be in the business of protecting personal computers. Instead they should be sanctioned like other malicious fraudsters.

McAfee solicits third party marketing firms to sell their software. It is not unusual to receive ten to twenty spam Emails from these companies daily. Their marketing campaign is so obnoxious and intrusive that I would classify it as a virus which to say is the very same thing that they are alleged to be protecting you from. I have used their product in the past and found it to be substandard in just about every way. My advice is to ignore the spam and under no circumstances download the free trial as you will be inundated by pop ups alluding that you are "unprotected". It would be far more fortuitous to to download software that will protect your from "McAfee".

I signed up for their service last year and only used it for about two months as I didn't like the way it worked and it slowed my computer down terribly. I uninstalled it and went with another service. What a surprise to now find a renewal charge of nearly $130.00 on my credit card statement. I tried to apply online but you have to call them to try to get a refund. The first time I called, the system said all their representatives were busy and try to call later. When I finally got through to someone he barely spoke English and sounded like he was reading off of a script. Bottom line - they would not give me a refund for the service that I did not purchase, but agreed to lower the price to $44.00. I still haven't figured out how they got my credit card information, as this charge came through on a different credit card than the one I used for the original purchase!

In the beginning, all I wanted to do was access the data that I had uploaded to the Mcafee server. This, in and of itself, should be much more clearly laid out so I don't have to resort to contacting customer service in the first place. Several hours later, I eventually figured it out, but only after enduring the VERY badly trained, barely English speaking representatives. After a lengthy phone call, the first rep sent me to the online chat because she couldn't understand how to help me. The chat on my PC does not recognize the formatting of my email address for some reason, so I had to use my phone. The chat rep's responses were VERY few and far between, and even more cryptic.
Long story short, I have to have access to a PC in order to access the files I have uploaded to an online server. Apparently, according to Mcafee, it wasn't worth their effort to allow anyone to restore their files directly back to their phone, but through their PC then to their phone. I love the level of security of Mcafee, but unless you have literally all day to deal with customer service issues I cannot in good conscience recommend it.

I've been a Mcafee user for sometime. Which is why I was astounded to see that Mcafee went into my personal account and deducted $140 for automatic renewal on 4/11/20. I immediately sent a written request for a refund and was promptly emailed back stating my refund request has been received and I will have my payment refunded within 24-48 hrs. This email was dated 4/11/20... Fast forward to today, 4/30/20. I gave them until the end of the month to process and issue my refund and have received nothing. I called their service line and receive a foreign rep I could not understand who wanted to speak fast, no less. I asked several times for the rep to slow down, say that again and explained I couldn't understand them.
After realizing that the rep was telling me I wouldn't be receiving a refund for minimum of five more days from now, I immediately asked for someone else to speak with, a higher up.. I continuously was given the run around and simply could not understand everything that was being said. I was provided with a reference number and then told to call my bank to see if they could expedite the refund for me... My bank?? I thought... Mcafee was to issue me a refund weeks ago and is not suggesting I call my bank. Unbelievable. I rarely make reports like this, but Mcafee has proven a level of unprofessionalism unparalleled to any other company I have dealt with.

My problems began the week my part of Canada went into COVID19 lockdown, i.e. the week of Monday, March 16/20. I received an email on March 18th thanking me for my subscription to McAfee TechMaster and indicating that my credit card had been charged $179.95. The problem? I had not ordered this product; indeed I had never heard of TechMaster. I do have an existing account with McAfee for their LiveSafe product, which provides anti-virus protection and technical support.
When I contacted billing support for McAfee, they said there was no record of me having subscribed to TechMaster and my only account was with them. So I contacted the support number for TechMaster. That's when the "fun" began. First of all, I was transferred from agent to agent, many of whom could barely speak English and whose phone connection was horrible. The connection kept cutting in and out. I think I could've gotten a better connection with some cocoa farmer using a burner phone in the middle of the Bolivian jungle. When I finally got somebody who said she could help me, nearly three hours later, my patience had finally run out. She assured me there was no record of me having bought the product and assured me there was no way my credit card would be billed. She said she would email me to confirm this. I did not receive an email, which in retrospect, would have been a clue as to what would come next.
On April 29, I received my credit card statement. Surprise, surprise, there was a charge for $179.95 from McAfee TechMaster. So, later that day, I began round two of my dance with McAfee Techmaster. The experience was little better than last month's. Sketchy phone service. People barely more understandable than were they to be talking to me through a wall in a muffled voice in the next room. Broken English. Something lost in translation. You get the picture. Then after being bounced around from agent to agent, I finally got some guy who could only give me his first name, had no employee ID number, couldn't pass me to a supervisor (it's because of the COVID19 pandemic, he said), who could not confirm the last four digits of my credit card (he did not have access to that), but who assured me that the service was cancelled and I would receive a refund in 5-10 business.
By this time, I was in meek, I surrender, mode. Could you please send me an email confirming this, I asked. "No sorry, sir I cannot do that. The system will not allow me that." The Czech surrealist writer Franz Kafka wrote a novel called "The Castle" about some guy who spends all of his waking life trying to find somebody to talk to in this mysterious castle that houses people who rule his village, just so he can ask a question pertaining to his life, but but to no avail. I am thinking that in our global village, we are all victims of technology, scams, and absolutely dismal customer service and it is only going to get worse. I had contacted my credit card fraud department about this. They opened a file. I will pass on this latest information to them. But I am not optimistic about getting my $179.95 back.

I told him repeatedly that I DID NOT have the money, because THEY had taken it from me without my permission.
He kept telling me that I was not understanding him and that I HAD to do this, in order to refund my money. I finally told him I wanted to talk with a Supervisor. He gave me the number of another person. I spoke with a woman. I went through the whole process again. I interrupted her and told her that I only wanted my money back, Nothing else. She transferred my call to the Refund Dept. I went through my situation AGAIN for the 3rd time. After talking with him for about 35 minuets, he told me that I had to pay to remove the Protection Plan from my computer. I told him in no certain terms that I was going to pay them any money. I demanded my $127.61 back and nothing else from them. He told me that he had to talk with his supervisor.
He came back to me and then told me that, he could remove the plan from my computer for $40 and they could refund me $87.61. After another go around, and another discussion with his supervisor, he finally told me that he would refund the money, and that it would take 5 to 7 business days for it to be put back into my account. At the end of the conversation he had the nerve to ask me to take the brief survey at the end of the conversation about my experience. Then I was disconnected. I could not believe this was happening. What kind of customer service was this? Trying to force you to spend money in order to get your money back. I have dealt with Customer Service Departments before but, never, have I had to deal with such treatment by any of them, like I had to deal with last night.

I made an online purchase of the McAfee Total Protection for 5 devices for only $39.99 on their website but found it difficult to download the product. For 10 devices it cost $49.99, for 5 devices it cost $39.99 and for 1 device the cost is $34.99. A difference of $10 and 5$ between the 3 products, I suppose the low prices is a clear indication that this is a scam if the download installation won't work and you can't get your refund back. I received an email with a download link and a receipt but no contact email.
After downloading the setup installation from the link and running it I was unable to download the product. A window reads problem with installation. Tried a couple of times to download but still same message. Tried the pre-install tool, won't work either. The service request number won't work either. If you want a refund there is no contact email or chat window only a phone number to contact. I am not sure if scammers are using the mcAfee website for their benefit or is it just mcAfee service. At this moment I don't know how to get a refund. Contacting them by phone is way too expensive as I don't live in the US.

I have purchased their anti virus software and have had many problems over the years with it not functioning properly. After doing personal business on my laptop, I always clear out my browsers and shred my temp files. I will also check for any viruses. The software will not always launch. I have to shut down my computer and re-boot. It takes over 6 hours to do a full virus scan. I would expect that time to be reasonable if I had fully used my all of my memory. But I am only using 25% of it. I purchase another device and had McAfee installed and have confirmation that it was installed properly. I don't use that device very often, but when I do, a pop window keeps telling me that I have to renew the subscription. The subscription I purchased was for 1 yr. and is only 5 months old. Because McAfee was never signed up for, never downloaded by me and still pops up more than (any) other pop up is proof that McAfee is basically malware. Why would anyone pay for a service that is essentially a virus on its own? It took me hours to delete it from my system because of how deeply it embeds itself. If I had a rivalry or a grudge against someone, my gift to them would be McAfee "anti" virus. I have never been more annoyed by a product, ever. I never wanted this program, say no to its "deals" daily and they still repeat the questions daily. Never, ever use this terrible program. As soon as I deleted it I got less pop ups than when it was actively "removing threats" lol... It is basically a placebo and malware for your computer and they want you to PAY for it. Nope.

I wish I could give this no stars. I used the McAfee Anti-Virus for three years, and found it to be non-effective. I still was getting viruses and had to take my computer to the repair shop several times to get rid of them. I received a notice in October 2019 asking me to renew the subscription for one year. An 11-page document was sent, in which an "automatic renewal" statement was buried, in type so tiny I overlooked it. On November 11, 2019, I received a notice from McAfee that my subscription was renewed for $127.61, which was put on my credit card. I immediately wrote them asking them to cancel the order.
Since then, I have been arguing with McAfee and my credit card company trying to get this charge removed. McAfee insists that I ordered the service, while I insist that I didn't. My credit card company say it has no control over the matter. Yesterday I was on the phone with both of them trying to resolve the matter. A representative of McAfee said they would "get back" to me, but never did. I have received several emails from McAfee asking me to "activate" this service, which I have not done. I think this is an underhanded, questionable way to do business and urge anyone interested in this service not to order it.

An auto renew for McAfee just went through my credit card. I did not opt in for this when I originally bought the software a year ago. To obtain a refund, I found a link in the 2 pt font (yes, that's really small) in the email about the auto renewal, followed the link, hunted through pages of their website and then filled out a form to request a refund. Then, I received a message telling me to phone them and quote a service number. Why?
I called and then sat on hold (natch) and when I got through, provided the exact same information as I had filled in on the website. There was no value-added by having to call. It is just a chance for their sales guy to try and convince to to stay. I refused to listen to the guy's sales pitch or respond to questions about why I didn't want their software. He then put me on hold for three more minutes (!) to process the refund. I don't do business with companies that deliberately waste my time to further their own interests. They stole 20 minutes of my day. Done with McAfee.

I called the company and they said they had to return my $42 and reorder. To this date I don't remember exactly what they said, but I remember it sounding sensible. So, I had to order again, but I never noticed 'til I checked my account a few months later that I was charged $62, now too late to cancel. I know, I know, I should have noticed when I placed it but I assumed it would still be the sale price. So, I was gypped.
Then after I started using it, I noticed my computer slowed to the speed of a slug. After trying several things, I ended up deleting McAfee and everything worked as it should. A few months later I had to reformat my hard drive for other reasons. McAfee was one of those apps I reinstalled. Again, my computer slowed down when the app wasn't even running. After remembering deleting it before, I deleted it again for the last time. I'm so glad to have my computer working right. Oh, their service is in some foreign country and they could not understand what I was trying to say. Bring our jobs back to the states where people can understand us!!! Of course they are going to auto renew it but I figured they would message me at that time a year later. In the meantime the virus protection was not any good according to themselves. They were right so I decided I wouldn't renew. But at 3AM on the annual date of renew they hacked my card for $120. And they sent me an email saying they were doing that. I have no idea why it's $120. Of course by 8AM I'm into the next year.
I decided to stop payment through my credit card, actually Capital One stopped payment. But now they investigated and paid McAfee anyway saying I should have read the fine print that allows them to screw me with the help of Capital One which also stands to gain in the transaction. The lesson is McAfee, MSFT, MAC/Apple, Lenovo or any other screw you outfit can screw us anytime they want and the large financials like it 'cause they get a piece!

This past Memorial Day 5/27/19 we purchased a new laptop from Office Depot. With the computer the salesman offered a McAfee LiveSafe card deal for $5, so we purchased this card. When I brought the new laptop home I started to download this McAfee LiveSafe.. but I received an error, that it couldn’t download the antivirus software. I clicked on tech support and I received a call from them right away. I followed this so called techs advice to allow him access to this new laptop. He started to run some diagnostic on the laptop and our home network. He so called discovered some really bad virus or bug called ASPROX BOTNET, on our home network... He took me to Wikipedia to show me how bad this was and bla bla bla then he threw me some price tags to get some protection on our network. 1 year $124.95 and you're only 75% protected, 3 years at 85% was $245.99, and 5 years 99% $359.99.
Luckily I don’t make any big financial purchase without my husband. I described this to him and he called our internet provider and continued to ask the tech for our internet about this infection of our network. He ran a scan and found NO issues. I then added Bitdefender which has been our antivirus for a year now and works great. And everything worked fine. McAfee is totally running a scam. I would highly recommend staying away from this company..

Duped into Purchase of LiveSAFE due to threats from McAfee that we were not protected by McAfee Multi Access. Now with both LiveSAFE and Multi Access from McAfee, still getting pop-ups with threats of viral invasion. None of this ever happened in the past when I didn't purchase McAfee LIVESAFE but relied on the free McAfee Multi Access provided by AOL. Now that I purchased LIVESAFE, McAfee explained that without renewing LIVESAFE, the Multi Access - free from AOL - would have to be installed "correctly" by AOL...This is again the unspoken threat (civil discourse that violates me more than being robbed directly). Why can't Mcafee take the responsibility of ensuring their Multi Access received for free from AOL is installed properly. McAfee runs McAfee installation and AOL does not.

I was initially pleased McAffee canceled my antivirus and proceeded to give me a refund on my credit card. Problem was they credited the wrong card for that subscription. The subscription I had canceled was purchased years ago for an old computer I no longer use. Initially, I saw on my credit card statement they charged me for that old computer's antivirus via auto-renewal. I immediately contacted them asking for the antivirus on that computer to be canceled and give me a credit refund. After a month of not getting the credit refund, and spending a lot of time on the phone with McAffee (and the credit card company McAffee applied the credit to) I discovered they processed the credit to the wrong credit card!
Like most people, I have several credit cards. You can't get credit on an account unless you made the original purchase on that account. I also had two separate McAffee antivirus account/subscriptions at one time. After explaining the situation to the McAffee representative, he tells me, "The credit has been issued. Talk to your bank." I see the original charge right in front of my eyes (on a different credit card statement) and yet they won't accept what I am telling them. Just apply the credit to the correct card, right? I have the proper account number and I'm wanting to give you the information! I explain the problem again, stating they made a mistake and processed the credit to the wrong credit card. He tells me again, "The credit has been issued, talk to your bank." I had to demand to talk to a supervisor.
It was the most frustrating conversation I have ever had on the phone with customer service ANYWHERE! I'm supposed to get a call from a supervisor tomorrow. I hope this gets corrected. Based on my experience, McAffee's customer service is terrible. The reps...you can hardly understand them. They say the same thing over and over and don't acknowledge what you are saying. This is a mistake that should easily be corrected. It should not take three attempts on the phone and a verbal battle with a customer rep you can't understand and who obviously has no authority to make things right. My McAffee antivirus runs out on my other laptops in November. I will NEVER us McAffee again...nor will I recommend them to anyone.

Step 1) Go to their website. Step 2) - log in with your user name and password. Step 3) Near the upper right hand corner you will see choices one of interest is "My Account". Step 4) Click on it and it'll give you a drop down box....Now this is where you'll be able to choose the renewal option....Click NO. They're very tricky in not sharing this with their customers! Recently noticed a monthly charge of 80 dollars being charged to my credit card monthly and has been happening for the last two years. I never authorized this payment as I have one computer and authorized only a payment of 20 dollars which they somehow deemed fit to sneak in an 60 dollars into my monthly charge. This is a lot of money for me to spend and incensed me when I figured out how much they were taking as I never agreed to this charge. When talking to customer service they were eager to refund me for only ONE MONTH because they claim I authorized this fee service (which I very well did not). After they agreed to be oh so kind to refund me a sarcastically generous 80 dollars their customer service rep proceeded to ask me if I wanted to pay a 60 dollar service for 50 percent off.
This was obscene and clearly a calculated script. From the quick response to offer me a one month refund as well as a "how about this service" arm-nudge which I rejected and then canceled my subscription entirely. Based on this interaction it is clear that this isn't the first time McAfee has been called for essentially stealing money as they didn't seem to care about giving a refund or anything else. This company and all its execs are crooked and just here for tech moneys. They do not care about their customers or their service, only money. In order to prove my points I detail below my recent experience with a level 3 American executive customer service assistant.
"On 2nd January 2019 my 2 years subscription was expiring and I renewed my subscription for 3 years on the same day in the afternoon. Despite my renewal on time I kept on receiving following messages "Your subscription was expired 7 days ago, your subscription was expired 15 days ago etc." I then sent an email to your office in India notifying the above and demanded an apology and appropriate financial compensation for this misleading information. In response to my email for this error they apologized for this error and extended my subscription for 3 months. As they were unable to offer financial compensation they escalated my complaint to Kendrick an executive customer service assistant in USA. Subsequently I received an email from Kendrick with a message he was more than happy to assist me if I respond to his email.
Immediately on receipt of his email I responded his email and he replied me with his offer of extending my subscription for extra 9 months to make a total 12 months which I accepted. After I received an email from Kendrick in which he mentioned I quote "this offer was nothing but a goodwill gesture only, as they have already extended 3 months this is valid." As I did not understand this sentence I contacted your members of staff in India and asked them if they understood this sentence but they were unable to explain to me either. However, they would send an email to Kendrick and I would hear from him. As I have not heard from Kendrick. I sent an email asking him how soon my account would be updated. As of to date he did not bother to respond to my email.
I would like to point out this is a person who is employed by McAfee to support customers to their satisfaction, my question to the management is this the right person to be employed in this responsible position, whose service is denigrating, demeaning and unprofessional and he even does not know how to write proper English. I have had LifeSafe for 4 years now. I think the trouble people are having with the auto renewal is they don't realize they turned it on. You have to watch what you are doing when you set up new software. You have to make sure that companies don't sneak things in you don't want. Yes there is one thing that McAfee did to me. I bought my computer from Dell and it came with LifeSafe pre-installed but I didn't realize that it also had another antivirus program with it. So when it renewed I was shocked to see how much cost to renew. I called them right away and yes they tried everything in their power to make keep the subscription for both. You just have to firm and know what you want. Please don't let them push you into something you don't want. All companies try to upsell - it is not just this one. This is how they make their money.
As far as the product goes I HAVE NOT had one virus in four years. I go to sites that they say are dangerous sometimes even knowing the risk. You need keep your software up to date, use settings in your browsers to help out also. Oh and set it up right in the first place for your needs. If you do not know how find someone that can help you. Even if you have to go to YouTube. But other than this I like this software over the other one they use to put on computers all the time. If we can provide proof that we cancelled, we might be able to get some help from the bank, but McAfee does not have an e-mail address, or postal address, so we would only have been able to cancel on the phone! They told me they would have sent out e-mails 30 days before taking money from our account, but we have never recieved any, and we are unable to access our original e-mail account, so we couldn't have known this was happening. I am unable to see how a company can legitimately take money from anyone without providing a service, and their cust service seem geared up to make things as difficult as possible, leading me to believe that this is all done deliberately. McAfee Billed to New CC W/O Permission. That's right, BEWARE! Even if your credit card information on file with McAfee is inactive or no longer viable (expired), McAfee will retrieve your NEW CC information from Master Card/Visa (others?) and then bill your NEW credit card with a subscription. Customer service at McAfee stated that they have this agreement in place with banks to "protect" their clients and ensure digital security.
My concern is that this policy is predatory and forces unwanted products onto those who may not want or need them. Those caught up in McAfee's CC update policy could easily include individuals who are deceased, unsophisticated, or be providing subscriptions to retired machines/devices. In my case, I was billed for a renewal subscription while reviewing other providers for a possible change. A violation? Tech companies should not have the ability to search for and secure updated credit card information when details on file have expired. In particular, companies should not be allowed to make a charge to a new CC account without the cardholders' permission.

I literally could not simply uninstall it. This extremely frustrated me and I will never be downloading this service willingly again.
I was extremely disappointed with the fact you had to download a McAfee product simply to delete McAfee completely, it's a waste of time and in my opinion used to make it difficult so that customers keep it because they cant or don't care to go through the process. But I recommend going through the process of deleting it and adding another protection service such as Norton. Anything BUT McAfee.
In the link you need to download to delete McAfee completely, if you go down you will see MCPR tool to download (once again one of the main reasons I will never use this product again, you have to download one of their product to delete all their programs???). I recommend Norton unless you have another company you prefer.

FRAUD. I never signed up for auto renewal. I work for a company that requires its own security and charges me $75.00 a month for tech support and security. McAfee drafted $100.99 for a renewal which I did not want nor need. I spoke with three different customer service reps, 2 in the Philippines, 1 in the US. All 3 contradicted themselves several times throughout the call. They lie and made stuff up just to get you off the phone. I called ANOTHER rep in Texas who suggested I conference call my bank to expedite my refund to ensure the money would be in my account the next day all the while knowing that the company wouldn't do that. I requested a refund and I was told by a very stupid supervisor that if I want a refund they are going to cancel my protection on my computer. What kind of sense does that make. None. My expiration date on my lap top computer is in 2019. First of all they are charging me once a month instead of once a year. They are supposedly investigating this but they have no answers. This product does not deserve any stars. I read the highly rated reviews; a trial version came with my HP laptop, so it must be good, right? And; McAfee offers a "100% Satisfaction Guarantee." The software did not catch the virus I got about day 40 . To add insult to injury it occurred while I was writing my novel. More than 400 pages were replaced by McAfee with this message: "This issue may be due to virus infection, we do have a free virus removal support option and in order to avail that you may need to turn on McAfee automatic renewal. Shall we go ahead?"
There is NO Customer Service. They never responded to my chat inquiry or my email. I call their scheme simple blackmail. There are too many good, reputable (and free) antivirus programs out there. My second laptop's screen also went black after the McAfee updates. Maybe if consumers were warned of such, antivirus software ratings wouldn't give consumers a false sense of security.

Problem started when I went to renew my client's corporate antivirus software. I clicked on the link. They sent me to their web store. Went to a form with all my contact information already on it. I clicked to submit my payment, and I got a message that my postal code wasn't valid. Considering it came from their records, and it's been valid everywhere for the last 30 years this was a surprise. Ok so I called the next day to finish the order.
The helpful person couldn't find it at first, then said I had two accounts (true) and he was able to amalgamate the accounts, and put through the renewal, although the price was not what they said in the renewal email. This process took 2 hours, including transfers from one department to another and a full hour on hold before I spoke to anyone. Called back in the evening to check the prices. The customer service person had trouble locating the account, then stated that the sales department is closed for the night so they couldn't do anything for me. This took 90 minutes.
Called the next morning, and got a discount for the problem with the pricing, (done) but noticed that I the computers with the expiring licenses were not listed on the website. I was transferred to Tech support, who couldn't find the data. Didn't know about the amalgamated accounts, and had to wait for the person who helped me originally to come in to complete the process. They'd call back in 2 - 4 hours when the person from the previous evening returned. This process took 3 hours.
Called back 5 hours from when I had completed the call with the last tech, as I didn't get a callback. Same problems finding the account, but was able to find it eventually. I stated the entire problem was caused on their end when they were messing with the account, and that they needed to fix it. I received excuses. I then asked for a manager, who wasn't available. Wasn't able to talk to anyone above the original tech, who, pretty much said that they couldn't do anything for me, and, after a total of 7 hours on the phone, told me I'd have to uninstall and reinstall the software I had just renewed - so it would work with the new customer portal. I was not pleased with this new piece of information.
The tech pointed me to the job ticket portal so I could see the responses and actions taken to that point (nothing) and summaries of our conversations, but clicking on the link on management portal - that I'm logged into - redirects me to their business support site, which requires a log in, and much to my surprise, the user name and password doesn't work. The tech on the phone was no help here either.
I asked the tech to leave a message for someone above him to call me in the morning, and left a detailed note for them to respond to - we're now about 15 hours from the start of their business day, and I'm still waiting for a call. So I'm at 7 and a half hours on the phone with them, do not have the problems resolved, and my best information now is I'm going to have to go to each individual computer and uninstall and reinstall their software.
So we're back to my title. I'm happy with the software, but will not deal with the humans they have working there again. They were pleasant, but I feel they lied to me on multiple occasions. I found them to be ill-trained, mistake prone, unwilling to provide any service above the bare minimum, and in some cases untruthful. By the time I was finished talking to them, I wasn't really sure what was true and what wasn't. I'd check my open problem ticket to see if there was any progress - oh wait - I can't, my login doesn't work. I guess that's one way to get rid a problem.

The name was recognizable and I hoped they would live up to the good reputation they enjoy as top notch antivirus software. I like that it's easy to install and trustworthy... I wanted a software package that would live in the background and only interrupt me when it's really important and McAfee's less annoying than the free antivirus software that interrupts and disrupts what you are doing all the time to tell you that you should upgrade to be even more protected.
But maybe if it was more reassuring instead of all red and warning oriented. It would be nicer if it just kept a green light or a Happy smiley face unless it was dealing with a threat, somewhere in the corner of your screen. Then you could see it go back to happy when the threat is dealt with. Rather than using "scare the customer" so they will know how important our antivirus is to their security.
