McAfee relies on the ignorance of the user to continue to charge people for their unnecessary service. We purchased a laptop last year with a one year trial for their Antivirus and in that year I have received countless pop-ups claiming that my computer was at risk of viruses and malware. Even though they are the service that is supposed to protect your PC from these issues. They use “scareware” (like the pop ups) to constantly remind you that unless you have their service (which we did) your computer will be infected. They also make you jump through hoops to get a refund for their unauthorized subscription. My advice is stay far away from this company. Even if you have auto renewal set to “OFF” they will charge you because just having their program installed on your PC (with over a month to go on the trial) is apparently all they need to claim that you authorize auto renewal. Uninstall immediately!!!!

Bad system, although you already have purchased coverage, they still harass you as if you don't. Interrupt you while you are on your PC, stating that you don't have coverage (protection) and email you frequently. Updating doesn't help, minutes later there is a warning that it didn't update and that you don't have protection. Trying to sell you services you can't use, as if you would buy more from them, considering how bad their current service is. Customer service is of no use.

Accessing my account or help articles leads to an "Access Denied" error. The system seems designed to make unsubscribing and getting support as difficult as possible. Was very frustrating so when I got ahold of tech and had them remove McAfee completely from my phone I was fine but they refuse to refund my money and I bought the expensive plan so do yourself a favour and don’t not buy or use McAfee. I used McAfee for a few years and continually charged more each year. I found another company for antivirus protection. Tried to cancel and they called and offered a much better deal. After telling them just to return my money which they finally did. After a few days and after I had removed their software from my computer, I started getting popups from McAfee saying I'm not protected. These popups have continued and it is a pain. How do I get rid of McAfee completely?

Buyer beware. This company operates shadily, they hide behind the internet w/ the promise of integrity and will steal your money. They automatically renewed a software program without letting me know a year ago that the program was automatically renewed, it was not in writing when I thought it was buying something to protect my program (original purchase didn't call it an automatic renewal like this years debit does; indicating to me, that this company continually acts with Dishonesty) instead what I bought was something that kept my computer from running regularly there was no accountability with them. I have requested a refund for this year and got told I couldn't have it. And as a result of them pulling out money without authority to do so this year they have caused me to overdraft my bank account - if this company had integrity they would refund my unauthorized stolen payment for unwanted services and double that refund to cover what they have cost me in excess!! Wouldn't recommend ever not even to my worst enemy. The BBB needs to shut this corporation down!!!

Right upfront I love McAfee, been using it for years and it has done great protection for my PC. But today I got my first bad experience with customer service. I had gotten a pop-up while on my McAfee program to purchase the McAfee Anti-tracker. Thinking this would supplement what I already had on my McAfee Ultimate-Individual, I subscribed to it. I could not log into it because the 6 digit number they sent me kept showing up as wrong number. I wasted an hour trying over and over again, with the same results.

I called Customer Service and explained the situation to the lady. She told me I didn't need the McAfee Anti-tracker, because it was already included in my McAfee Ultimate-Individual program. I asked her if I could get a refund on my purchase, which she answered affirmatively, then proceeded to tell me about another program I should get that would set me up with the technical agents in case I had a PC problem. The program sounded good, but could not afford it at this time. I asked her to tell me the name of the program again so I could write it down for later use. She just kept on talking and talking and talking trying to sell me the other program.

I finally got completely frustrated and used a loud voice and some not so good words to tell her I don't like hard sales pitches. She then connected me with the accounting people. I told the accounting people I wanted a refund, and that the customer service lady said I don't need it. They told me, yes, I could use it to supplement what I already had. I decided to keep the new program, but told them I couldn't sign in to it because it always gave me the six-digit number that would not work to open the program. The accounting department said, it is already working since it is now a Google extension on my PC. Again, I love McAfee, but they sure need to re-train their Customer Service people. I'm 77 years old, and wasted over four hours of what hours I may have left fooling with this fiasco.

McAfee will not let me cancel my subscription. And keeps charging me a hundred and six dollars every year. I called customer service and they would not let me cancel. And the only option they gave me was was to charge me another hundred dollars to stop auto renew. I cannot cancel my subscription. My credit card company has the website blocked. But I have to do that that every year on January first in dispute charge. The subscriptions are for computer and a tablet that I do not use anymore. They're old and broken. I'm still being charged for virus software computers that are no longer in use. I wish I could give zero stars but it doesn't give that option. They wouldn't even send me a email of subscription cancellation.

I argued with them for over an hour. They just kept giving me options to spend more money on something I don't want. I don't want McAfee virus software at all. I want nothing to do with this company and they won't let me cancel. How is this legal that you can't cancel a subscription and the only option they give you is to charge you more money.

I started receiving pop up ads only from this company, the pop ups are very time consuming to get rid of as you have to X out or skip many pages to make them go away.

I have spent days on the phone with GEEK SQUAD to obtain their help in eliminating these pop up ads. I have spoken to 4 or 5 of their employees for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours each over several days. Each time they assured me they had taken care of the problem. They even took control of my computer remotely several times, did scans, unloaded and loaded things, etc... ALL TO NO AVAIL. Finally drove to BEST BUY today, took the afternoon off from work because I knew it would take a while. Waited in line, the man from geek squad looked at my computer and told me it was fixed. I drove home, opened my computer, only to get a pop up. All I can say is avoid this Company at all costs.

McAfee is garbage. I purchased a new computer and it came with this garbage. I erased it and put Norton on my computer. The first time McAfee expired and immediately thereafter I got 100s of popups that I kept deleting and they kept popping up. These are all McAfee popups saying I have trojans and malware and you name it, my computer is bombarded with spyware, trojans etc, and I need to purchase McAfee to get rid of it. I couldn't get rid of these popups. I had to re-set my computer back to factory to get rid of this garbage.

Then of course it was the same as new, until the McAfee expired again, and lo and behold, the exact same thing happened again immediately after McAfee expired. Don't let McAfee lie and say it is something else. I am contacting my congressman's office about these crooked people. Don't purchase a computer that come with McAfee much less purchase McAfee. I now must purchase a new computer after just purchasing this computer 2 months ago. I am not going to reset my computer back to factory every 30 days when this trash expires and be forced to buy this garbage.

I wouldn't purchase McAfee if it were the only anti-virus there is. I do not deal with crooked companies who use crooked tactics to try and force you to purchase their garbage, and now I will not purchase a computer that comes with this trash. McAfee, prepare to be fined absurdly by the government for this. This will not be tolerated.

I beg every person who purchased a computer that came with this garbage to file complaints with the SEC and every other government agency and bombard them with complaints about this company. Because I have had it and I am not tolerating this garbage. It is no coincidence that this happened twice in 60 days when McAfee comes on these computers new with a 30-day free subscription, and you can not get rid of this trash, it is stuck on your computer even if you delete it, you get millions of nonstop popups claiming you have malware, spyware, trojans, you name it, and it is all McAfee stating you need to click and purchase McAfee to get rid of it.

Well, I just replaced my tired 7 year old HP laptop with a new similar model. Love HP, hate McAfee which came with the laptop. I have used McAfee in the past but prefer Norton. But like and continue to use McAfee's Truekey app which stores your passwords. It has been a reliable source and I know how it works. So my first effort was to sign in to Truekey to be able to utilize my passwords and sign into my accounts. Wrong! McAfee needed to send me a code to my email to complete the sign in. I waited, waited some more. And then finally got onto a chat line with a representative. This person appeared to be from India or god knows where. And after twenty minutes of repeating myself over and over because apparently my English was too much for this individual to comprehend, he could not help me. He escalated it up the line after a good 30 minutes and told me to wait for a call. More waiting and no call. So I then called their number for tech support.

Another nice person from god knows where with a thick accent came on the line. After much repeating myself again the problem seemed to be understood by the representative. Another hold. Eventually she came back on and told me she could not help me either. So right here is another example of a company outsourcing their customer support to India, Thailand or some other country where they can pay the workers pennies on the dollar and probably offer them an afternoon's training and turn them loose on customers. I guess the game plan is frustrate folks and they will give up. Reality, another lost customer. I uninstalled McAfee and will give up on Truekey and use Norton's password manager. Sad that this is where most companies are today. Terrible customer support..

So I'm a man of my word and am updating my review for McAfee. Since I left my original review a "stateside" Representative from McAfee reached out to me to offer assistance and apologized for the horrific support and lackluster response to my issues. Shortly after the Representative reached out, someone on the technical support side fixed my registration issue and the problem is now resolved. I thanked him for his communication and attention to my issue and I'm up and running again.

If I could leave -0- Stars I would. McAfee is the absolute worst to deal with. There Anti-Virus is no better than others and their PC Optimizer is the same (no big deal). What sets McAfee from the rest is their ABSOLUTE HORRIFIC Technical Support/Customer Care. IT IS NON-EXISTENT. I've been having serial key issues with their product for months and they can't resolve it. I can't add any new Laptop or PC to my account because it gives me an error code thus making it IMPOSSIBLE to use. EVERY TECH (if you can call them that) that I've talked to (several times) can't or doesn't know how to resolve the issue. I keep having to repeat myself over and over and over and over and over and over AGAIN.

Just picture the most horrific Indian accent asking you the same questions repeatedly and not resolving anything. They take control of my computer and can't figure it out. Then again in a heavily laden Indian accent tells me they're going to "ESCALATE" my issue and I'll be reached out to. WRONG!!! NO-ONE AND I MEAN NO-ONE HAS REACHED BACK OUT. I asked for a refund but because I'm an existing customer and just renewed they won't do it. So I'm out a few $$$ until my subscription ends next June 2025. Of course I started having the issues when I renewed in June (2024) and have been left just hanging in the wind. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for anti-virus. And if you don't renew in a timely manner, auto pay kicks in. I specifically called a year ago. Had autopay shut off, which didn't help me at renewal time this year. I had several fraud alerts on my debit card, in the last couple of months, I am in the middle of a dispute right now for $213 after I already got with a McAfee support agent and renewed my subscription for $299 so basically I was charged twice. Also the support agent gave me a different program, took McAfee off my PC, and I still got charged for McAfee AGAIN, this time it went through, hence the dispute. I'm writing this review to express my extreme disappointment with McAfee's antivirus software. While I initially hoped for a reliable security solution, my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The most significant issue I've encountered is the constant barrage of intrusive ads. Despite working on my computer for 12 hours a day, McAfee seems more interested in upselling its products than providing actual protection. These annoying pop-ups interrupt my workflow and are incredibly difficult to disable.

When I contacted customer support, their response was equally disappointing. They seemed unable to understand the issue and kept insisting that the ads were coming from a web browser. Despite my repeated explanations, they were unable to offer a solution. To make matters worse, they even tried to sell me a product to hide the ads! It's a clear indication that their focus is more on revenue than customer satisfaction. Given my negative experience, I've decided to cancel my auto-renewal. McAfee's refusal to prioritize customer needs and their aggressive marketing tactics have made it clear that they are not a company I want to do business with. I strongly advise potential customers to consider alternative antivirus solutions that prioritize security and user experience over profit.

At the end our relationship as I was letting it expire they tried charging an old credit card. This gave me a scam alert from my bank. After getting a new card and re-setting everything my account would randomly stop working. Stay well clear of these ones.

After being on the phone with them for over 1/2 hour where they found they were charging me twice a year for the same service multiple times (agent said this happened a lot and did not offer to refund the charges), they refunded the 160.70.

On August 3rd, they again charged me. This time 149.00 dollars. My credit card company identified this as fraud and informed me. I informed them not to pay. I called McAfee customer service and received the same runaround, that I needed their service. I would not recommend anyone use this company. I have had McAfee for years, and yet I got hacked on my computer. I asked for an individual protection for $39.99. However, I just found out that I am paying over $180 or so every year. And it doesn't work. The rep that I talked to said yeah, this happens a lot, but I don't think I can do anything. After my first call, I called back to get McAfee on my iPhone. It jacked my iPhone up because it wasn't the right one and I have to get a new iPhone! So I tell this guy about it (who is in India & can only speak a little English, and had him go to his boss).

Here I am in ICU and have been for one week, which is very costly. So I told him I needed my money back since McAfee gave me The premium protection versus individual protection in the first place! He would not give it to me. And then he talked to his boss and his boss said that they won't give me my first $162 back (which will turn into $180 plus every year for three years) unless I buy an individual protection and I thought the initial rep gave individual protection for me for $39.99 but is for $180 for one year!

The Rep in India said yeah that happens all the time. Well then tell people upfront and be transparent. I realize that with the premium, which I didn't even want or need, is going to cost me $180 every year for a few years. And I'm telling him I can't even do the $162 which they already took out of my banking account, because I've been in ICU and am ill. I'm a single person, and I've been away from my job for some time now for my sickness. There was no compassion whatsoever. When I told him I was a marketing director, I said that I'm gonna have to put this on the Internet. I said it just like that because I'm always calm and nice, and he said "go ahead. Put it on the Internet, I don't care. I hope you do." He was rude from the beginning. He tried to be nice at one point when I said back to him that that was very rude, but then he got rude again.

That's not the least of my worries because now my bank account has money being taken out and they won't give it back and they are the ones that that signed me up for the premium! And now I also have to get a new iphone. I'm still in ICU as I am writing this. Just know they have been horrific stealers of money, and I have had three other marketing people say as much. Please don't use them unless you are very sure they are giving you the right product. Further, I could've used the same McAfee on my computer for my phone instead of giving giving $39.99 more for my iPhone. They are a mess. I'm tired so I hope I'm making sense. Forgive me if I didn't.

She continued to give me the same response when asking to cancel my subscription with them, but she reassured me it was a legally binding contract, yet she could not provide me with the “contract.” All I wanted was to cancel an 8 year (yes 8 year) subscription that my 10 year old renewed for me. She told me the only option the server was giving her was to pay $279 to cancel. What??? She then told me she owned McAfee, so when she told me she was not collecting my money I replied with “But you own the company since you do not have a boss…” Then she told me she would sit on the phone with me until the end of her shift, oh wait, she did put me on hold to use the bathroom, I’m assuming she thought I would hang up.

Jessica so kindly said that she put a flag on my account so if I called back I would only go to her. No customer service here, just “You agreed to the terms and conditions so we are holding you to it!” I am beyond furious, the fine print says you can cancel and receive a refund within 30-60 days of your auto renewal. Good luck with that! No humanity, no empathy, no compassion, just take your money and run! Oh and they say if you change your card or dispute the charge they will still collect their money. I didn't discover the purchase until months later when I logged into my account. I had TWO LifeSafe programs designated for ONE computer. When I complained, McAfee refused to refund my money because it was after the refund period.

Then, McAfee renewed my subscription when I had "auto renew" turned OFF. However, it was turned on for the 2nd subscription! Not only that, McAfee charged my PayPal account for the renewal, but months earlier I had changed my payment option to a credit card. Since that credit card had since expired, McAfee pulled up and charged my PayPal acct. McAfee saved my PayPal account information even though I had ALREADY removed it as a payment option. Isn't that illegal for McAfee to save consumer account information when the consumer does not want it used as payment for subscription services?

I had to argue with the McAfee service rep (who was trying to justify the reasons for saving my old acct info, AND why I should renew my subscription) for 20 minutes before he actually agreed to refund my money. Although, my other PC and Laptop has another 'purchased' protection on them, and I have the multi-device options on them, I decided not to go through the hassle of uninstalling McAfee then downloading yet another one, then go through the process of syncing it with my other PC and Laptop. So, I left it on my Gaming PC for the time being.

I have had this gaming PC for less than a month. I don't do a lot of surfing the net. When I do, I go to trusted sites. Just today, I didn't even have a browser open...was just working on writing up a document. Suddenly I get a small notification on my PC stating I have 3 Trojans. So, I do a full scan, even though I had just run a full scan 2 days ago. And it showed the 3 Trojans on that scan. I decided to uninstall and install the other protection I have on my other PC and Laptop. Did a full scan with the newly installed protection, and there were NO viruses at all. So, McAfee is junk. In my opinion I feel that they are only offering the 'Free' version, only to get people to download it, send them messages about them having viruses, just to trick those people into changing to their 'Paid' version. I’m the only one that uses my computer, he proceeded to tell me that I need to buy a 150.00 firewall for it to work. I told him I’m just going to check with another computer person before doing anything. He kept trying to get me to buy his products. I finally hung up on him. Very shady event and I hope McAfee does something about it. I called back and the next person helped without logging into my computer, was a very simple process. Be careful when calling their support people.

McAfee is one of those brands where --if you have the misfortune to ever download it to your PC, it will STAY on your PC ---FOREVER. Try uninstalling--won't work, try a system restore to an earlier time before McAfee was installed ---it mysteriously 're-appears'. You almost have to completely factory reset your PC to get this JUNK off of it. They REFUSE to remove their very invasive pop-up ads from your computer. Honestly, downloading McAfee to your PC is a virus all its own.. They PUSH themselves on you, even when you say you don't want them anymore or try to uninstall their software and they won't allow you to. It's invasive and obtrusive. I hate McAfee. I've learned over the years to avoid them at all costs.

I had been using McAfee anti-virus software as an add-on to my prior Internet provider. In 2021 I changed my internet provider to another company that did not have anti-virus protection as part of their package. I subscribed to 2-year service ($74.19) on 12/25/2021 for a desktop computer and a cellphone. On 11/25/2023 I was billed for $127.19 for 5 computers, VPN service, for a one year period. From my memory, the VPN service was noted as a separate line item with a separate charge. I still only have one computer and one cellphone. I do not have any other devices such as tablets or laptops. That is a 171% increase. I have no record of being asked for VPN service charges to be added to my account. I have no record of being placed on "auto renewal" status. I am unable to retrieve a detail of either invoice.

I bought a Lenovo Think Pad on November 17, 2023. During checkout, I added McAfee security software. The PC was delivered a couple of days later and I installed McAfee from the link sent to my email. I also added McAfee to my iPhone. On December 13, I added McAfee's VPN service to my PC (already on my iPhone) in case I ever took it out of the house and it was exposed to weak WiFi. Several hours after adding VPN protection to my PC, my PC lost connectivity. Coincidence? My iPhone, also with VPN protection added, was not affected. Both devices were connected to my home network.

A Windows scan of my PC indicated that this was a firewall problem. Odd. I called McAfee. I spoke to 3 Customer Service agents over 2 hours with horrible results. I was on the phone with the first for 50 minutes. He told me that McAfee had identified 6 instances in the past 4 years in which my personal data had been stolen and that because of this the McAfee software had disconnected my laptop from the Internet.

Ok what is this about? On first installing McAfee, the initial scan had flagged these 6 risks and I had immediately reviewed them - all of them breaches in which user names and in 2 cases passwords had been stolen. They do not represent a real threat IMO. For example, a couple were data breaches at Zacks and Zynga in which my user name was stolen. Well that's ok, those companies were hit as long ago as 2019 and I have not accessed those accounts since the initial login. I did not feel actively threatened by any of these 6 data breaches.

According to this CX agent, however, McAfee took me offline because of these 6 data thefts. Further, I was advised that Lenovo had sold me a cheap version of McAfee that provided only basic protection (i.e., a very disapproving note from the agent), and that I could only get Internet access back if I 'upgraded' my security software with a payment of $379. Basically, I was given to understand that I was sold a second-rate version of the software produced by his company. What a terrible thing to say about both McAfee and Lenovo. Plus, I felt like a victim of bait and switch when I heard I had bought allegedly second-rate software that I would now have to 'upgrade'. Most important from a true customer service perspective: At no time was I offered - despite repeatedly asking for it - help with removing the block apparently initiated by the McAfee software.

I called Customer Service twice more. The second guy didn't like how upset I was (nor did I, honestly) and offered no help. Finally, the third agent connected me to Technical Support. The TS guy was the first person who appeared to listen. False hope though. I gave him remote access to my backup laptop (which did not have McAfee on it, so, like my phone, was still able to access the Internet, but I have no clue why he thought my non-McAfee laptop was relevant) and he dug around and then told me that I had 6 data breaches (Wow, I've heard that before!) and that they would fix that for $379. (Wow. That's the same number as the 'upgrade'!!!) When I questioned him further, he stopped responding. Literally, the call continued with no one saying anything. I had to hang up. So weird. And he was the solution guy, I thought. Until then, anyway.

I then rebooted the 'infected' PC. This restored Internet access briefly. But within a few minutes, I lost network connectivity again. So I had no choice but to uninstall McAfee. As a result, I am back online, for good I hope. And the moment I uninstalled, Windows Defender kicked in. Wow!!! Possibly there is a nasty competition going on in this industry???

    Questions:

    1. Why did it take more than 2 weeks following McAfee installation for my computer to be blocked from the network? Since the scan showed the 6 alleged risks immediately, why wait?

    2. Why did my phone remain online if the risk was identified for my account? Why only my new PC offline, wasn't my phone at risk as well?

    3. If there is a security problem, why no pop-up explaining why I am blocked and offline, and giving me the option to bypass the block and to get reconnected if I accept the risk? Or simply a reminder to change credentials if I hadn't already?

    4. What is the $379 for? These data breaches were at other companies from several years ago... why would I pay McAfee money for other companies' problems? It's not like my PC had been attacked and therefore there was malware to deal with!!!

    5. Why did the first customer service guy tell me that the $379 was to bring my PC up to the best version of the software, if the TS guy described it as a fix-it fee?

    6. Why are data breaches at unrelated companies a reason to block my access to the Internet?

I will not be reinstalling McAfee, and I will be calling Lenovo to complain that they sold me a product that it seems the manufacturer does not fully stand behind. Not a story in which anyone looks good. And I still need a reliable security software.

The auto-renewal cost was $163.30 w/ tax. The billing payment receipt notice said we had 60 days to request a refund. I requested the refund within a few hours of the transaction being posted to my account—the website for McAfee forces a call to Customer Service to request a refund.

I informed the CS that the child was not authorized to enter a subscription contract and the sales agent argued this point. after about an hour of pushing me to keep the service for a much-reduced fee, they finally agreed to the refund. It took far too long and many moments being placed on hold while they "reviewed the account" they could see that the software had not been installed on any device for nearly a year. This company will do anything to keep its software on your devices. It was frequently overriding settings and altering user settings that were well outside of the "virus" protection realm. McAfee Cybersecurity, or whatever they call themselves, has become either an outright fraud or a company allied with fraud. And not even smooth fraud--they show utter contempt for their customers and ignorance about even the basics of the subscriptions that clients have signed up for. In a series of calls to McAfee, prompted by threatening e-mails about the impending expiration of my subscription, the treatment I received was almost indescribable. Every "rep" had a different story about even the basics of my subscription--or subscriptions, because for reasons they couldn't explain, I was in their records for two different subscriptions for different periods and covering different devices. To the extent I got any answers about that, the last rep decided that I had in fact signed up for one of those subscriptions with a "fraudulent company" that just happened to answer THE McAFEE PHONE NUMBER.

They're still "looking into" the situation (right!), but of course, informed me that so sadly, the three-year subscription I had just wasn't valid--despite the fact that EVERY ONE of some half-dozen reps I had spoken with previously informed me that the three-year subscription was the ONLY valid relationship I had with them. When the reps decided they had enough of me, they simply told me that they needed to "transfer" me to another department, which turned into dead air on the phone. All the reps wished to do was get rid of me (and of course, collect more money). Even the expiration dates of my subscriptions didn't match in various places on their OWN WEBSITE, which bothered the company reps not at all. They simply gave me "Case Numbers" in my calls that were useless, if indeed they existed at all.

In sum, McAfee has turned into a fraudulent, incompetent, cold-blooded company that hardly even pretends to offer any service other than extracting money from your credit cards. I have spent an untold number of hours on the phone with McAfee over the last few weeks, to no good end; they did nothing but raise my blood pressure. AVOID McAFEE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

Vishal in customer service should be fired. We no longer have our business and I NEVER received a renewal email from McAfee or else I would have shut that off immediately. Vishal decided to work me up and instead of just refunding me and listening to my reasonings. Kept trying to sell me products at discounts and I was consistently saying no. I just need a refund. I did not authorize this charge.

Long story short you should use him in your training sessions and learn how not to be in customer service. I work in customer service as well and I would have NEVER spoke to a potential customer and just tried to sell and sell not understanding someones reasoning for a refund. I know A LOT of business and word of mouth is huge. I will be letting everyone possible know to never use this ever. I would have reconsidered if Vishal wasn't so rude and pushy.

It was time for me to renew my subscription due to turning off my auto renewal because I wanted to make the choice if I wanted to renew or not when the time came. I chose to renew but I wanted to turn the auto renewal off again. When I tried to, it made it seem like I would be canceling the subscription altogether, which I didn't want. I opted for the chat for assistance. However, the person I was connected to misled me to believe they could assist since they knew what I needed before the chat started because I was required to provide information about what my issue was before I was connected to anyone. I had to provide my email address and she asked for my phone number and I asked why my number was needed, she lied to me and said it was needed so she could call me if we were disconnected. So, I gave her my number.

I again provided her with the information about what assistance I needed and it was then she told me she was unable to help me because she was "technical support" and not "customer service". She asked if someone could call me to assist me and I told her NO, I didn't have time to speak to anyone. But, I was called anyway. I ignored the call and let it go to voicemail but no message was left. They called back again immediately and a message was then left. However, when I listened to the message, it was nothing but breathing. They called back several more times before leaving me another message and also sent me several emails.

It was also extremely coincidental that I began to get *slammed* with junk and crap emails the very next day to the tune of nearly 50 in 3 days starting the day after I refused their first call (Sunday 7 May). I decided to go ahead and call them back on Wed because I wanted it on the record about their poor customer service practices and wouldn't you know it, the junk emails have stopped! Imagine that! Thanks for selling my email address McAfee, I hope I never have to contact you for assistance again.

"Our technicians are working on the solution and say that it will be resolved when the new version launches" lol.. Really?

ANnnd in the mean time you're charged FOR that service that, just..poof, went away. What's this feature I keep referring to? File Shredder. It "Deletes sensitive files completely to ensure no traces are left behind" Noooope.. Doesn't work, it would just freeze up the whole antivirus program. GREAT feature, when it worked last...in MARCH of 2022!!! Being without that feature for 9 months I finally had enough. With three months left on my subscription, 4 years with mcafee, MULTIPLE emails and chats with "tech support" 10+ phone calls with tech support.. I was done, and..looking at other REAL reviews, I wasn't the only one. Choice is yours though. If you like to pay for features and not be able to use them, mcafee is for YOU!

McAfee will do an auto-renewal on your account even when you have turned it off. McAfee will refuse to remove your email address and personal information even though the policy given by their chat through the website states, "• If you want to uninstall McAfee software from your PC after you cancel your subscription, see TS101331 - How to remove McAfee products from a PC that runs Windows. If you would like your email and account details removed from McAfee completely, contact Customer Service and make this request. You can't delete your account yourself using My Account."

McAfee will keep you on the chat and/or phone for over 2 hours trying to argue you down that why they can't cancel your account or even change the address on your account, which is needed because they will harass you about an inactive account. McAfee will take every system that you have ever installed their program on, even when you have removed them from your account, overcharge you. McAfee will draft your account from those extremely high fees, without a renewal draft notice, more than 30 days before the fee is due to come out. It happen to me $140 for 1 computer.

McAfee will lie about everything. You don't have to take my advice about not doing business with McAfee, but take my advice to protect yourself; and screenshot/print every time you go into your account; pay using a prepaid card; and set up an email address just for McAfee (trust me they will harass you about doing business with them). McAfee is playing the numbers game of stacking accounts to make it seem like they have more business than they do, but look closer to those accounts and you will find that a lot of them are inactive. Do your research about complaints filed against McAfee and you will have all the proof you need to not do business them. I purchased a 1 yr basic subscription at Wal-Mart for a fraction of the renewal cost, like less than $20. However, the activation code did not work. I was told to contact Walmart. I did so. Wal-Mart states activation is automatic when the card is purchased. So between the two of them, I'm done. I'll never use McAfee and will certainly not purchase software from Walmart.

I have used McAfee for a few years, and I believe what this company is doing may fall under hidden and sneaky practices to make money off of customers. On last year, McAfee charged my credit card an auto renewal fee of $89.00 and I was unable to get it removed. Therefore, this year, I am a little more vigilant about the the product. Admittedly I don't recall seeing it in the license agreement last year. I purchased a total security for (5) downloads from Amazon on 12/20/21. I paid for it and then went to McAfee website to install. There were many attempts on the website to trick the customer into signing up for auto renewal because it offers no choice.

I believe I was able to avoid the auto renewal with the 1st download but with the 2nd download, the only way it will allow the download is if customer agrees with the license agreement before downloading. Today, I have made several attempts to contact the company with the contact phone number listed on the website but each time the call was dropped. Also, with the same email used to download the 1st one, on the same day, practically minutes later when I attempted to do the 2nd download, I received a message that says it does not recognize the email address. Does anyone know of a good, not so costly internet and virus security?

Updated on 03/18/2022: Since my last post regarding a credit, I have complained to the BBB (Mcacheat has not responded to BBB in 8 weeks) and I filed a complaint with the FTC and guess what, all of a sudden, mcacheat responded with an email that a refund check would be coming within 3 weeks time. The 3 weeks has come and gone and no refund yet. I will wait until the end of next week and then file another complaint with the FTC. Funny how, when I placed the initial order, they could charge my cc in 30 seconds, but cannot issue a credit to the same card, they have to send an elusive “check” that takes weeks. Interesting!!

Prior to the email from consumerrefunds@mcafee.com that a refund would be issued, they installed a trojan virus on my computer, nice, right? Read reviews on this site that others had experienced mcacheat installing malware on their computers as well, so beware of their type of revenge for those trying to cancel service. Thankfully, WEBROOT was able to remove it and helped me remove all traces of mcacheat from my computer, not as easy as “uninstall” and I had to have Webroot intervene to remove all the sneaky stuff they had loaded on my computer. Do not go thru Best Buy for Webroot software (read BB geek squad reviews and you will know why), get your Webroot anti virus software directly from Webroot. Mcacheat continues to send “monthly activity reports” to my email even though their software was wiped off my computer completely on October 4. 2021. The malware was found and removed in January this year.

Never in my life have I dealt with a company so dishonest, it has taught me to ALWAYS read reviews prior to doing business with internet companies. And be especially wary of those that either do not have phone numbers and hide behind email address that go nowhere OR has extremely convoluted menus and ridiculous wait times to get to a human. Those companies do not want to talk to you, they only want your money; they want to make is soooooo incredibly aggravating to get to a human that you just give up and let them keep your money. I work too hard to give money away. I would advise anyone looking for antivirus software to stay away from not only mcacheat but also the Russian companies-see their reviews.

Original Review: Forced to give at least one star, don't even deserve one, should be an option for zero stars!!! Ordered 2 yr antivirus subscription in March 2021. Declined auto renewal. Called for help downloading and found that auto renewal is a default, told technician I wanted to decline it. He promised to turn it off. Checked later in the month and it was not deactivated, called and spoke to Renz, he promised to deactivate it. I deactivated it prior to speaking with Renz, but apparently, as soon as you exit, it re-activates. Pretty sneaky and scammy if you ask me....

Contacted McAfee again in Aug/Sept for assistance with applying for t-mobile free 2 yr coverage due to data breach. Never could apply for the free service - McAfee could not help nor could T-Mobile. Why would Mcafee not help resolve this?? I was beyond frustrated at them. Also, found out that auto renewal had been set as active AGAIN despite my turning it off on sign up AND asking tech to uncheck it on call for help and calling specifically to have it deactivated. Finally had enough of them today and called to cancel service, asked for email proof service was cancelled, and requested a refund for the second year of service. Found out I was AGAIN signed up for auto renewal. And they are arguing about refunding the second year.

Mind you, each phone call involved transfers, extended holds on line no less than 23 minutes, long involved explanations from Rhoda, Raja and others about why they cannot cancel my subscription; cannot send email confirmation of cancellation and they want a supervisor to call me to handle it. Who has time for this aggravation??? At this stage, I do not trust anything they say and prefer all further communication in writing. If you don't mind a company that ignores your preferences and treats you like an idiot, places you on hold for 20 minutes at a time, reads their answers from a cue card , then this is the company for you. I cannot and would never recommend Mcafee to anyone. Too many other good companies that are better trained to serve the customer in a civil, ethical manner. Find anyone but mcafee for your antivirus protection.

All I wanted was for someone to look into my problem message that appears on my phone when I try and download their app. (This device is not compatible with this version.) I am not happy with the non existent customer services and uncontactable Technical department, I feel the whole setup is not fit for purpose and I will now ask for a refund, I only hope for the companies sake that the service is better in the US than here in the UK.

I bought virus insurance from Mcafee about 4 years ago and they have been sending many ads to buy from them again. I ignored them and wrote and told them no. Big mistake. Two weeks ago Mcafee and Norton and AVG companies started sending so many ads that they took full pc screen. The ads flashed and danced around and their hope was that people in their frustration would sign by mistake and be locked in. Their insurance failed to do its job and I refused to buy from any of them.

I did buy a cheap policy from AVG about that time and they would protect me from that. 2 days later they sent several ads with threats to buy a more expensive item I said no and they started doing the same thing the other 2 were doing. Have reported them to fraud and scam agencies and we will see if justice will remove those criminals. Their being able to get on my pc caused enough damage. Had to rebuild it and put new programs on. Did not help as those scum from some dark alley were back doing the same thing and are doing it while I try to write this review,

I need to know how to shut off/allow through certain aspects of games that I play in order to be successful. Mcafee offers no customer support through their website other than a database to search for errors you might receive downloading/installing their product. In other words, they want you to buy their product and have it installed, but don't care what happens after that. As a gamer, I would not recommend Mcafee as your antivirus purchase. Mcafee has no customer service whatsoever to help you with anything after installation of their product.

I ASSUMED that McAfee would 'void' the initial antivirus coverage and apply only the 2nd purchase. BOTH policies were for unlimited machines. I just purchased another computer and realized that I'm getting emails from them to buy ANOTHER antivirus package (remember, I ALREADY have an unlimited # of computers on these packages). I called customer service and they confirmed that I've had an autorenewal on BOTH of the first two computers; one renewing since 2015 and the other renewing since 2018. SO, the upshot is that they've been charging me DOUBLE for the last 3+ years!!! They confirmed that on the call. I then asked for a refund, and was told that they can't do that, EVEN FOR THE CURRENT YEAR. WATCH OUT FOR THESE SNAKES!!

A few years back, I purchase, what was at the time the latest version, of McAfee. Mind you, I purchased this software from a retail store for Office Supplies products. Upon installing and using the software, the background activities was slowing down my computer and what I had to do for my work. There might have been a function to turn this off like their competitor, Norton, but nevertheless, I decided to discontinue using the software in less than a day of using it, and return to my comfort zone with Norton. On my part, I did not realize was that you can go on their website and use their function to discontinue the subscription so you will not have to pay annually, which is something I did not think I have to do since I purchased it in my public store, and I thought simply reinstalling it would be the end of it. However, it did not dawn on me that they retain my payment information since I did not purchase the software on their website.

But here is the most baffling part of my experience with them: the debit card I used for the purchase was reported lost, so I had since been issued a new bank card to replace the new one. To my surprise, McAfee was able to charge my new card an annual fee since my subscription was still active on their website, and I was charged even more than what I paid. I took my complaint to the website, but I did not receive any response back from them. The only thing I could do was to go on their website and turn off the subscription. McAfee has over the years become more terrible and I am way more happier using Norton, which is what I have been using for years. I still do not know how they got my new card information, but I consider this a breach of security of my information.

Currently, McAfee command to activate is six times per day: each rising loud bells, and the final command to activate give a dire prediction should you not pay! On the first day after my free trial, I received the following warnings: all your photos will disappear at 9:00pm, activate McAfee: you are going to porn sites, activate McAfee, your text files will be destroyed at 11:00 pm, activate McAfee. Each day the number of warnings multiples Each day a new warning appears. I was afraid, but my photos are still present. I have never visited a porn site, but I see no emails to suggest otherwise.

Most frustrating is McAfee Customer Support telling me my problem has nothing to do with McAfee, and is caused by a lack of synchronization. I might accept this explanation, except I have entered hundreds of events on my calendar, finding only one duplicate: duplicate on a single day, not a multiplication building with each passing day. And, even with the one duplicate I have the option to delete the event from my calendar. The warning to activate is listed as an event with a yellow triangle, or an orange scary skull& crossbones, and there is no option to edit, no opportunity to eliminate the bells ringing, or even decrease the number of reminders from the default two.

Customer support tells me the incompatibility between McAfee and my Apple 10 phone is due to a problem with my calendar that affects only McAfee, but is not a problem for McAfee to research: WHILE NOTING SEVERAL CUSTOMERS HAVE CALLED CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO REPORT THE SAME PROBLEM—ALL THE FAULT OF THE CALENDAR APP, NEVER THE FAULT OF MCAFEE!

To me, the threat of eliminating my photos, my text files, my email unless I pay to activate McAfee amount to extortion. If the problem was found with even one additional entry, I might believe it is a calendar syncretism problem: not one other entry among hundreds has the same problem. I might believe an evil competitor has hacked the system to create a threat from McAfee, but Customer Support is adamant the problem is with my calendar. I am told all other person calling to report the same complain eliminated the problem by removing unrecognized calendars.

I would be interested to read from others with the problem to learn how they eliminated it, or if the problem persists. Right now, I am ready to get a new calendar app—not Fantastical— to enter hundreds of remaining events by hand to protect a new calendar from this apparent virus. Any less time consuming resolutions welcome: how can I edit or delete an event that alone does not permit an edit or change: unable to delete warning that multiplies with each passing day.

Last week I received an email that I was charged my yearly fee of 127.48, that I had honestly completely forgotten was on auto renewal. I immediately called customer service because the receipt said I could get a refund within 60 days. The woman I talked to said that the payment hadn’t gone through yet and I would have to call back because there was nothing she could do. I waited until the money was taken out of my account and called again.

Immediately upon answering the phone, the person I talked to was extremely rude. I said I needed to request a refund and he told me “okay well that’s a really long process you know” and under his breath kept saying “Jesus Christ” throughout the entire phone call. He then was arguing with me that I only got charged $40 and there was nothing saying that I got charged the other amount. I requested to speak with a supervisor and he told me they wouldn’t be able to tell me anything different. Only giving 2 stars instead of 1 because he finally transferred me to someone else who was able to help and cancel my payment.

So the McAfee website said if I added another product it would speed things up. I installed the new product and my system died. Nothing could or would move.

After running into one error after another I called a tech company. They held onto my system for 10 days. During that time I was told the McAfee products were the cause of the problems. So I asked them to uninstall. Then McAfee began sending me emails stating that its software had saved me from specific virus'. How is that possible, it's not even installed. Could it be that those emails are a canned email McAfee sends everyone? Including those people who don't have their software installed.

I tried to get my subscription refunded. Especially since my computer has not been using it since before my 30 days were up. The Customer Service rep said I should have called. Even though I explained how do you call with your account info when your system is in the shop with all of your account info unavailable to you. You know what I was doing during that time. I was trying to work. I didn't even ask them to cover the tech bill. I just wanted to be refunded my subscription. How do you call or look something up when you don't have access? I can't be the only consumer with a problem with their software. But CS staff sent me to tech who sent me to billing who sent me back to customer service who said ... No refund. How do you call McAfee without your computer, account number or any info to get your refund for a product you used for less than 30 days. How is that possible?

They make it hard to contact them, they make it hard to get the help you need when you can't get into your account to see what is going on. Finally, they will not give a refund without making it terribly hard to get them to pay attention and listen to you.

Be careful with your membership! If you are a busy, busy person as I am, make the time to track what they are charging you for and when. I don't like them. I use TotalAV now and have had a wonderful experience. Too bad I paid (unwittingly) for McAfee and TotalAV at the same time. I don't even have the computer McAfee was supposedly on.

I renewed my McAfee security in December 2020 for two years. As it was a new laptop I used a new email address. I have received, up to 5 email a day to old email address, saying I am not covered. I telephoned yesterday and explained that I was fed up with receiving these messages. I was assured it would never happen again. Given a number **. Guess what. Today another 5 emails saying I was not covered and to renew immediately. They just don’t listen. I am now considering a refund. I feel this is harassment.

I bought Mcafee software (12 Month subscription) which I decided not to renew. Since that time, banners from Mcafee run across my pc screen everyday telling me to resubscribe that I have to manually close. I have tried to locate the file and remove but it is hidden. Clearly, Mcafee might be happy to protect my pc from other unwanted software attacks etc but is more than happy to build in to its download a file to attack my screen on a daily bases. Appalling behaviour from Mcafee.... I would never use them again.

I bought antivirus software online. When I tried to download it to my laptop it would not load. I contacted customer service and got no help from them at all. They gave me some number to write down but not nearly enough time to write it. I'll never buy their product again and demand a refund to the fee that will be charged to my credit card.

I have been locked out of my account and after 1 1/2 hours of being on the phone with various persons I still have no answer. They keep telling me my email address is wrong but twice within this time frame they emailed me at the address they say is wrong. How does that make sense? Now I just want out, I want a refund but you can't do that on website, you are to call another number where you will be put on hold and told you don't exist.

Like many others, I was surprised that McAfee took $127.94 from my credit card via their auto renewal scam. We have four children and six personal computers in the house. I do not have the time to keep track of them all. The $127.94 was taken for my oldest daughter's machine. This is a horrible practice and I am disappointed that they would do this, particularly during this time.

Got a laptop last year with free software. Then Mcafee decide to continue taking payments without my permission. I was never notified and the payment was took, 2 phone calls later to only get back a part refund. Had to raise as a fraud case with my bank. The software is no better than the standard anti virus software on windows 10, so save your money. The contact centre are useless, rude, and don’t stop talking you through their sales rubbish. They won’t listen and barely understand English.

So, when I got my brand new gaming computer, I got a free trial of McAfee. This trial lasted a month, and once it ended McAfee started putting hundreds of pop ups on my computer telling me to renew the product. I had gotten a better Anti-Virus (Norton) and didn't want McAfee anymore so I kept clicking 'Accept Risk' and 'Ok' to all of the pop ups. But yesterday one of these pop ups had only one option I could click: 'Buy Now'. the pop up covered the entire right hand side of my screen, and I had to restart my computer to get rid of it. Furthermore with McAfee, I found out they have been charging me ever since then even though I'm not actually receiving the Anti-Virus Software.

When I questioned the support team, it turned out how just about every other bad review said it was, except with my experience they were denying the fact that they used pop ups as a way to influence people to buy their product. If you ever buy this product, you may as well cancel your card and switch banks because you CAN'T GET A REFUND OR CANCEL THE PAYMENTS! They would try to charge you until you die, and even after that they would take money from your life insurance for a product that you don't receive or need. I hope people actually notice how much they are being charged instead of writing reviews that make the company seem as though it's the best thing since sliced bread. Thanks for reading (if you read the whole thing) and just remember to not sign up for it because it's a downright scam.

I bought a new computer this time last year. McAfee was installed on it automatically with the purchase. Not something I opted for but I decided to go with it. This morning I woke up to a charge of $128.39 to my bank account. They did now notify me of this renewal fee, "which they say they will do before making a renewal fee charge". I searched for a notification that a pending charge will be made in case I missed it. There isn't one!! Also, I can't make sense of my subscription. I have a computer and a smartphone on it... but when I go into my McAfee subscription it only shows one device, the computer, but when I go into my phone it is there. This is dodgy and confusing. I don't like it... AT ALL AND THIS MAKES ME NOT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!
