I was using TurboTax to file a very simple standard return which should have cost $59. I followed instructions and paid $291.16. I realized this was too much and did NOT file my tax return. I then tried to get a refund via chat and telephone. I was denied. I can't believe that a company such as TurboTax that is well-known would not have a refund policy. I have received refunds from a variety of businesses over years. As a result, I have paid almost $300 for nothing. I filed my return with a different company.

Never ever use this insidious and malicious software! It tried to tricked me into paying over $800 last year, while my accountant helped me get $1500 back. I'd lose over $2300 had I chosen their nasty "service". I don't make a lot of money so this is a lot to me. This is beyond inaccuracy. It's a plot clearly. All they've been doing is misleading me and letting me paying more!

I find it a little disturbing that my 20 year old college student loses $197 of her $1,000 student tax credit to TurboTax which says it's free until, "Oh but you are getting the American Tax Credit and that is only available if you pay us for every return..." Don't market yourself as free, and don't steal Student money.

I used TurboTax for the first time expecting to be charged $117 for their fees. I just got my refund and was short $303. I have no idea where that extra money went and how to get refunded what they took. Unless they correct this problem I’ll never use this service again…

I filed my 21 year old college age son's taxes this year through TurboTax as I have done for the past 5 years. He only had a W2 and 1099Q - no other forms. He earned minimal money in MA where he goes to school and nothing in ME where his permanent residence is. He should have been able to file for free. The free option did not appear and I spent over an hour on the phone with TurboTax. The person I spoke to was in agreement that he should be able to file for free. TurboTax was charging us $59 for Federal, $59 for Maine and $59 for Massachusetts. Why should he have to pay anything to file in Maine as he did not earn any money in Maine. She advised me to file his taxes and then request a refund.
I requested a refund and got a message from TurboTax that you can't get a refund when you file online - you can only get a refund when you but the software. That is NOT what their employee told me when I spoke to her for over an hour. I am very disgusted and frustrated with TurboTax and will NOT use them again ever! Avoid this company. They totally bait and switch the consumer. It's no wonder there is a large class action lawsuit against them for charging people to file their taxes when they should be free.

Turbo Tax is now charging a $40 fee for filing electronically if you use the deluxe version. I just completed my return and on the “payment” tab it clearly stated Federal e-file $0 and state e-file $20. On the very next tab it notified me of an additional $40 fee with no explanation as to why. I contacted the support department and was told, now get this, the fee is charged to deluxe version users since the return is more complicated and if I had used the basic (and cheaper) version there is no charge. Considering the Payment tab made no mention of the additional charge and no explanation of it exists, I find this charge totally unethical if not illegal.

I have been trying to get my form 3115 from my documents page and it is not listed. I called an agent and we worked for an hour trying to get my access code so she could use my computer and take a look. The access code that should be six digits kept coming up five digits. Her computer could not load my information. I have spent hours trying to use TurboTax for my first time and it has been nothing but a pain. Your software is terrible. It's unstable and it doesn't work. I will never ever use TurboTax again. What a terrible experience I have had. Not worth the money. Over a week to do my taxes and I was required to do an upgrade to Premier which I feel should've been included in my first choice of service. This has been the worst Tax service that I have ever been to in my 50 years of tax prep.

TurboTax is just one unit in the he panoply of scuzzy tax preparation firms available. Do you prefer a logical chart of fees and options or to have fees and options offered and even forced on you as you progress through the onerous task of tax returns. Intuit offers a game playing approach to getting your money. It feels like a cat and mouse game with you as the mouse. Corporate abuse of people in this fashion encourages us to treat each other poorly. Not good. Ease of use can be great…until it isn’t. Once it isn’t your life is not your own as you desperately try to reach something besides a BoT for help. Once you do, some agents (they call them experts) are so new, you may need to teach them. And again until your phone battery dies.
I am one of a significant number of people who simply cannot pay. Yes, that is correct. Doing my taxes was a breeze. I was hired by H and R. But paying? A nightmare or more accurately IMPOSSIBLE on turbo tax. I tried so many times and variations suggested by so many of their “experts” that two of my credit cards were blocked for fraud there were so many attempts! A known problem since 2019 but still not fixed??? And I “gave” these people my financial information. I am now working to delete my return and restore my credit cards. Printed off my tax forms. Much easier than turbo tax fOr me. I would submit a receipt to be a verified buyer but it would not let me pay with valid MC or VISA cards.

I've used Turbotax for many years, never had a problem until now. I filled out everything and actually filed my return, only to have it "rejected". When I checked the error message, I see the TurboTax package currently has a glitch which doesn't work well in reporting "Qualified Charitable Donations" from an IRA. TurboTax then advised me to hold my return until March 10th and resubmit -- the software glitch will be fixed by then. Why am I disappointed? Well, if TurboTax knew of this problem, their software should have told me to wait prior to submitting my return. It was a waste of time, and saving time is the prime reason I pay for TurboTax. Not warning me is the major irritation. TurboTax -- you're good, but you aren't perfect.

Avoid this company. This year, they forgot all of my personal information. I had to re-enter it manually. My attempt to import my W2 and 1099s either failed or imported inaccurate information. Had to input all data manually. Trying to correct their erroneous data was very difficult. What's the point of using software at this point? I ended up completing my return it by hand to avoid trouble. The instructions for cancelling the subscription are deliberately elusive. No chance of getting somebody on the phone.

I have used Turbo Tax for years and each year I pay from Audit Defense. I was Audited for 2018, 2019, & 2020 for my state. For the 2018 & 2019 Audit I was assigned a worker to handle everything. From the beginning of the Audit, I was not impressed with the timeliness of the correspondence. Once things progressed and they submitted everything, I received a response from the state that they were not accepting many the deductions I had submitted and that I owed far more money than I had thought. I reached out to the “tax professional” and she advised me to just settle it out and pay… and I trusted her. After I sent the checks to the state she then shares with me that I will also owe the IRS, which I did not know. So, I let her know I want to appeal and I sent other documents, per their request, as it was before any deadline.
To make a long story short, she did not respond, NOTHING for 4 months and that response was from the Resource manager trying to close out the case. We obviously missed the deadline and I was out thousands of dollars. Even the supervisor apologized for the lack of follow up, but I was still out because of their negligence. Then I get audited again for 2020 and once again I reach out. The Taxaudit person contacted me and I sent the power of attorney to them. She spoke to me three hours AFTER I was supposed to have the court date/time with the state to let me know she had done nothing yet. I had to inform her of the date even though it was on the letter...so my date was missed...looks great on me...and was highlighted in the future letter from the state. I submitted all that was asked of me and then they submitted to the state. I then get a letter back from the state that they were not accepting a LARGE amount of our deductions.
I decided to investigate only to find out that over 40 pages of receipts/paperwork I sent to Turbo Tax, was NOT sent to the state. I was also told 5-6 times that they do not handle any appeals at this point...even though everything Turbotax says they do. Thankfully the resource manager corrected that lie. This is NEGLIGENCE and incompetence once again. I spoke with the supervisor and even she was appalled at the mishandling of this. I have been in conversation with their people but we are now having to go to appeals which is wasting more of my time and making me do their jobs. This is 100% negligence when two different “tax professionals” mishandle an audit this bad. Turbo Tax/Intuit are supposed to be the leaders in this industry but clearly and statistically when three years of audits and two different auditors mess up this bad, that is an issue and I would honestly use another company.
I reached out to INTUIT and heard back from the Office of the President Sasan Goodarzi and they are not doing anything. They are casting blame and putting off on the third party audit company they use....as they don't actually have Audit Defense but subcontract that out....so they try to cast blame and not accept any ownership, even though I paid INTUIT and not this other company. If you read Intuit's Mission and Operating values, they are quite impressive....but fall extremely short and are more concerned with greed and themselves than taking care of a customer and living up to those proclaimed values. This is the absolute truth in this and I am not just disgruntled of fabricating any of this, but a victim of the negligence of this company/financial institution. I want other people to know about this so they do not make the same mistake in trusting what this company says.

The first time I received no response and when I checked on status it said closed. I called customer service and they said to file another refund request which I did. I got a response this time requesting the same information I submitted on a new claim form. Three times and cannot resolve. I am now filing a claim with the State Attorney General's Office as well as the BBB.
Additionally after purchasing a new TurboTax Premier it says it's good for 5 federal e-files and 1 State Return. When I tried to e-file my state they tried to charge me $20 filing fee and $40 Refund Processing Fee. This is definitely an Attorney General Issue. I used TurboTax this year only and specifically because they say you can be eligible for a fee free refund advance, both my returns were accepted and they tell you that you can receive your money within 1-15 minutes after acceptance. You have to open a CreditKarma money account to get your refund which I did. Well it's been over two weeks and I still haven’t received my advance and won’t for some time because “there’s a delay”. The agents tell me they can see my money but it won’t be released due to a delay. So basically they scam you into overpaying to file your taxes just for the advance, which doesn’t exist. Thanks Turbotax, I really needed that money. If I knew there would be a delay I would have went with a different company that costs far less.

After endless hours talking to Turbo tax who said if I did not "download" their software from my computer, they were not responsible and could not help me. I purchased a "disk" and downloaded from a disk. Problem: Two years later IRS said they did not receive my tax return nor the tax balance that I had provided Turbotax with my banking (routing and account) information. This is after I had copied my complete return when originally filing with Turbo tax. All the information on their completed form was correct and I thought nothing more about it. That is until I received a notice 2 years later from IRS saying they did not receive our tax return.
Speaking with IRS, who I might add were extremely kind and helpful once I was able to connect with someone, now with penalties, the only clear explaination as to WHY I have copies of the complete 2019 tax return and IRS never received it,...defective software. I picked up Turbo Tax Deluxe (disc version) at a local retail location. My hope was that it would live up to what was advertised and what I had heard about the product. I wanted to be able to efile my taxes AND to make it easier in the future. However, this was not the case. When entering my information into the software, I noticed that when it asked for the AGI, the software would change the amount that I entered. I had not used tax software previously and entered the amount as it was on the forms from the previous year, which was also submitted to the IRS. So, after I tried to efile, I received an email and text that the return was rejected by the IRS. I followed the instructions that were provided and found again, the software would NOT accept the information I entered.
After 40 min on hold and a horrible phone tree, I finally was able to speak with Eric in customer service. He explains that tax software rounds up and that there is a "workaround" in place for this issue. He tells me to select that I didn't file last year. Wait a min, isn't that lying to the IRS? He assures me that it is not lying to the IRS and there will be no issue as it is actually a 3rd party. Hold on, if it is a 3rd party, why does the email and text say it was rejected by the IRS?
Additionally, why was I not notified that my information was being provided to a 3rd party, this was done without my knowledge OR consent. Eric assures me that there will be no issue and this will work. Reluctantly, I followed his instructions. I also said to him that if I have to print and mail my return, I expect a full refund on the software. He said this would not be a problem. After Eric punched me off the phone (so he wouldn't get in trouble) I received another email and text indicating my return was rejected by the IRS.
Fast forward to now, I have been in contact with the Intuit Office of the President, the agent, Candace, which turned out to be one of the most unhelpful customer service agents I have ever encountered. I have emailed the executives that are listed on the Intuit site and have not gotten a response, I sent the email 6 days ago. It has become obvious to me, the culture of horrible customer service starts at the top. I requested a refund on the purchase price of the software AND to have my information removed from the Intuit systems, I also wanted my info removed from the 3rd party system as well. The only response I have received is to submit forms which in turn, puts more of my information into the Intuit system.
The last email (which I am considering posting online) informed me that "I appreciate your candid feedback regarding this matter, and I will provide that feedback to our teams so we may continue to improve. I am sorry we could not reach a more mutually agreeable position on this matter; however, this is our final response." So, their final response is to pass the buck and still not resolve the matter at hand. Good job Intuit OOP agent, way to make a first-time customer feel "valued"
Since I have worked in customer service for most of my working years, I have a very high expectation from CS agents, especially those working in an escalations dept. If you, as a customer want an easy experience, I strongly urge you to find something other than Intuit products since this experience was everything BUT easy.

Charging college students a minimum of $60 when most of us are not working due to full time at school seems completely unreasonable, especially with the removal of the IRS free file program. Your "free" program should list right from the beginning that if you are a student it will not be "free" - instead it waits till you put every single detail in, and are about to file to tell you that actually you have to pay for the deluxe package. And on top of this, for the first time I have seen, you also are charging an additional $49 for filing to my state (IL)? So the $60 including basically nothing, even though in previous years it covered both federal and state? So not only did you decide to get rid of your free program meant for individuals like me and other groups, you also decided to make it even worse by adding a fee that almost doubles how much it was to file in the past. Absolutely repulsive behavior.
I made $0 in tax returns this year but had to come up with $108 because I could not figure out how to use other websites, and do not have time to figure out another way as a full time student. You are absolutely price gouging a vulnerable population but at least your website is user friendly. Otherwise I would have given 0 stars.

I have used TurboTax happily for over 10 years. Filing my taxes for 2021 was a whole new experience. The explanations were few and far between. In one case when I was in the income section, a blank line, like a photo of a line from the actual tax form showed up with no descriptor other than to say to enter my last year's tax refund (didn't say federal or state), and when I did the review of the document that amount had been labeled my county property tax refund (which it wasn't) under other miscellaneous income. When I put in $300 for charitable donations allowed under the standard deduction, it said it would ask me more about them later which it never did, nor did it ever explain that I didn't need to provide that info. It also never gave me an opportunity to enter my contributions to my Roth IRA for the Retirement Savings Credit. Of course, they make you pay before you review your final documents and by then you cannot clear and start over.
After spending 4 hours trying to fix these problems by clicking on every single option that came up, I went to bed for 5 hours before waking up at 7 a.m. so I could talk to a human w/o being on hold forever. She was able to view my screen and put her mouse where she wanted me to click, but she had no clue what to do either. In fact, she knew less than me because I had 4 hours experience on her! She just kept going over and over the same items trying to do the same thing I had already done.
After an hour of this, and repeated requests to connect me with a higher-up person (who of course never got back to us) I had to hang up while she kept begging me to try the same things over and over. I could not file because I could not click yes on the statement that everything in my return was true. So, I'm out $165. There is no screen that pops up or any email that asks for your feedback. And no address to send a complaint or request a refund. So, I guess filling out these reviews online is the only way to let them know. The good news is I went on FreeTaxUSA and did the whole thing easy peasy: free for Federal, $15 for State, free for Property Tax Refund (completes but does not file) and even a $7 dollar Deluxe add-on that provides in person support and Audit support if needed.

Have been a TurboTax user for 35 years. This year discovered that transfers to the State program leave something to be desired. Turbo Tax expects you to know the state tax law and make manual adjustments. When contacting the helpline, the representative who was an Enrolled Agent confirmed it was the user of TurboTax that had to make adjustments for many differences between Federal and State and sent me the Franchise Tax Board's instructions. So, one must know the California tax law to be certain their state return is correct.

I am completely blown away by the incompetence going on at TurboTax. My wife and I signed up for the "Full Service" return that would supposedly provide us with a tax preparation expert to help us file taxes for my LLC business and my wife's Social Security Disability 1099. We were first connected on the phone to a woman who was only there to explain how to upload documents to their website. Okay, cool, that seemed unnecessary but I guess for a first time internet user it would be helpful. Then we were connected to a woman who walked us through uploading all of the documents that our tax "expert" would need. We uploaded everything and were assigned a woman named Malissa who would prepare our taxes, and we were told she would be in touch.
Days went by. We were checking the website 10+ times a day to see if anything was happening, but the message on the homepage just continued to say "You're all set!" After a week went by, I signed into the Intuit site and clicked the field to send a message to Malissa. There were two messages there from her that we had not been notified about in any way. One was from the day we uploaded the documents, and the other msg was from 3 days after that, she had requested that we both file Schedule C documents and upload them. In that message she also made a weird threatening statement that basically said "if you don't upload these documents by tomorrow I will be shutting your return down".
We scrambled and uploaded the documents immediately, and sent her some questions in the chat/message window because we needed advice on how to fill them out correctly. She never replied. We waited another 5 days, checking the website constantly to see if anything was happening. Today we got an email saying "Your Full Service return has been cancelled. We're sorry this happened. Please file again and submit everything again, and you will now have to pay an extra fee for an extension."
Our jaws hit the floor. We requested a call to find out what was going on and were connected to a woman who had no clue about any of this and could not answer any of our questions, but she happily suggested that we start over and submit everything again and pay for the extension fee. Nope. I have never encountered such ineptitude in my life. We need help with this stuff because taxes are complicated and we were afraid of making mistakes or messing something up. I'm pretty sure I have more knowledge about taxes than any of these TurboTax people. Actually feeling very relieved right now that they didn't file for us because who knows what kind of mistakes they would have made that they would have then not been responsible to fix.
Going with Taxfyle now, we were immediately connected to a CPA and we're working with him right now to get everything filed. The price is also literally half of what TurboTax is asking for for Full Service prep. I can't say anything for TurboTax's free services, but please don't spend your hard earned money on this "Full Service" baloney. We can't help but wonder how many people have wound up in hot water because their "tax expert" at TurboTax just shut their return down for no reason after the filing deadline.

I was on the phone with Customer Service for SEVEN hours yesterday and that was one of multiple days on the phone or chat with Turbo Tax Customer Service! I have had a horrible customer experience with Turbo Tax this year and I am speechless at the lack of Customer Service! I was told by Customer Service the 8915 F form would be available 3/25/2022 and it wasn’t. I spoke to Customer Service on 3/28/2022 and was told the form would be available 3/31/2022 and I “would just have to wait”. I tried to file my taxes on 4/1/2022 and was unable to do so because after countless hours in chats and on the phone with Customer Service, the 8915 F form is still not included in my tax return.
I was prompted to choose an up-grade to an expensive product I didn’t need or want and when I attempted to correct my original choice (made in error), I was told by Customer Service I would need to cancel my tax return (yes, the one I spent hours working on), choose another option and start over again. I spoke to Customer Service again and I was advised to pay for the upgrade, file my taxes and that TurboTax would refund the difference for the less expensive option that I needed. I paid as advised and when I went to file my tax returns, I realize the 8915 F form still was not attached to my 1040SR so… I contacted customer service again yesterday.
I spoke to a Rep who was excellent, she was professional, calm and apologized multiple times while walking me through the program searching for the glitch over and over. She read, researched and had me reenter the area pertaining to my 8915F form. As advised, my refund was given except for the $49.00 I paid for the Max Benefit. The Rep said the system would not allow her to refund the $49.00 I paid for the Maximum upgrade.
We were on hold for an unacceptable period of time waiting for Tier Two and the Resolution Desk to respond to our request for assistance for a full refund. We were told by Tier Two for Customer Service (who was very rude and didn’t know how to use the program) that the $49.00 would not be refunded and the service it paid for could not be used. I was told by Customer Service on another call that I could file without the 7815F form so frustrated and out of $49.00, I asked Customer Service to add the option I needed to file my tax return and I would file without the 8915F form. I was then told by Customer Service that I could not use that account any longer. I would need to start over and pay again. So…Turbo Tax can not file an accurate tax return on my behalf, I can not add back the option I want and need to file my tax returns and Turbo Tax is just keeping my $49.00??!!
After four hours on the phone (mostly on hold), I was referred to the Resolution Desk and spoke a Rep who provided me a service code to resolve my issue and refund my $49.00 but…the instructions in the email don’t match the program options because I already paid for the services and so, I was back on the phone with Customer Service…AGAIN… On hold for 50 minutes AGAIN just waiting for “approval” to contact the resolution desk… And without resolve AGAIN… We tried to reach the resolution desk only to be put on hold… AGAIN and the phone was disconnected!!!! AFTER SEVEN HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH TURBOTAX TODAY NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED!
I found my multiple chats to be very unhelpful. The Tier Two Customer Service was rude, unskilled and a waste of time and resources. The “phone” Customer Service was often poorly informed by TurboTax and usually clueless about the 8915F form but... sympathetic and willing to help. The wait times (hours spent on hold) are unacceptable. I am truly shocked by Turbo Tax’s lack of Customer Service and failure to provide an acceptable customer experience or a product that can file an accurate tax return with the necessary forms in a timely manner!
Now I am two weeks away from April 15, 2022 and starting over after investing more hours than I can count with Turbo Tax because I trusted Turbo Tax! After more than 10 years with Turbo Tax, I can truly say, if you are looking for an online tax service just move on and don't even consider Turbo Tax until they have a major overhaul of their Customer Service Department. I have emailed Mr Goodarzi, Turbo Tax CEO and I am awaiting a response.

I have been using Turbotax for the last 5 years to file both my State and Federal Taxes and up until this year, it has been an alright experience. I say alright because you really need to look beyond the large bolded letters on their website/app and read the fine print. To start, the term FREE is conditional, wherever you see the term free, there are attached conditions. If you expect any excellent customer service, you are going to need to pay for it.. I get that and that's ok.
The real issue here is the fact that your return once you have finished the filing process, in BIG BOLD letters, is an estimation of how much you will be getting back, do not trust this number. The "estimation" they provided was literally 42% off (not in my favor of course). I contacted Turbotax and after all of the hard work put into fighting my case, got a 20% off coupon for next year. The customer service experience when things are good is excellent, but the second you have an issue, the demeanor of the staff adjusts 180 degrees and you are left more frustrated than before. I'll be filing my taxes elsewhere next year and I suggest you do the same.

When filing my 2021 taxes earlier this year, I selected every option TurboTax presented on their website as an add-on service for an additional fee. I have followed the same process for years. Instead of using any of the many free options, I believed it was the responsible strategy to have expert, personalized assistance for something as serious as dealing with the IRS.
This is the first year I had a discrepancy that required additional assistance, and I felt relief that I had paid the extra fee. My ultimate disappointment has been immeasurable, but I am hopeful that anyone reading this review will save themselves the same frustration and potentially hundreds of dollars. BUYER BEWARE; TT provided me with nothing less than advertised. They are not offering you any personalized services, and you will not have access to a CPA. If you are ever audited, you are better off paying for a local CPA, with your hard-earned dollars going towards your specific needs.
The first indication that TT was not a helpful product was when my Federal Return was delayed significantly. My state return was accepted, and a refund deposited within 1 week of my submission. My Federal return was accepted and followed by radio silence for several weeks. TT sent me no updates; nothing on my TT account home screen indicated an update or the need for additional information. A friend advised me that she had used an alternative online tax prep company. She received an email from that company advising her of a delay for all who claimed a Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit, and even provided a date by which the return should be expected along with a link to IRS.gov for further details. I received no such information from TT.
I went directly to IRS.gov for further information and found that my friends email notification was accurate. I found additional resources and information applicable to me. I began to check IRS.gov daily, as the homepage for my TT account never changed or updated, but the IRS did. Eventually, my information on the IRS.gov website updated to advise me that I was missing document 8332, and since it wasn’t submitted when filing my taxes, a significant recalculation had been applied to my refund. The letter advised me on what specific steps should be taken to correct this, including advising me of a hard deadline to have the documents submitted by, and that electronic submission would not suffice.
I contacted TT, thinking that I was going to receive personalized, professional assistance to get this addressed. I spoke to multiple customer service agents, each representing themselves as an “expert” Tax Advisor. I repeatedly explained that I had paid extra in the event I needed help from a CPA and requested to be connected to whomever was assigned to me.
Each agent I spoke with was pleasant and kind and assured me they were an “Expert Tax Advisor”. It was at this point I slowly began to realize my own error. I would not be connected to a CPA. I would not be getting any personalized assistance. The “Experts” are just the call center customer service/sales agents for the TT product. While providing excellent customer service, they are not equipped to answer questions about tax code or law. They have no more education on filing taxes than you or I, and if asked directly, will admit the quiet part aloud. They are not a CPA. I find this sales strategy borders on unethical.
Having worked in a call center for years, I am very familiar with scripting that is designed specifically to convey one message to the client while carefully protecting the company’s interest. To be subtly manipulated with this careful verbiage when navigating something as serious as filing taxes is not just frustrating. It’s terrifying. All the peace of mind I believed I paid for was nothing more than a well-executed sales pitch. I fell for it, these agents knew it, and were gently advising me of this.
When initially completing the “train-ride” process of filing my taxes through TT website, I was made aware of the need for an 8332 form. I read all the additional information boxes available to me on what the form is, why it is needed, and who needs to submit it. From these information boxes, I deduced that this was not my responsibility. (Ultimately, it isn’t. Someone else needs to fill out and sign this form. I assumed it would be done when that person filed their taxes.) However, since the submission (or exclusion) of this form is significant enough to alter my personally calculated result by more than half, I would expect that TT would alert me to this. Perhaps something in red indicating a concern or something potentially missing. Anything to indicate that I potentially should follow up on this item, acquire the signed form and include it with my return before submitting.
TT provided me NO indication that I was missing documentation, and certainly no warnings or predictive calculations of what might happen if this documentation isn’t included. At no point in the entire process did TT ever even update my account on their website to indicate that my return had been adjusted. I never received an email or any notification at all from TT indicating a discrepancy with my return or the need for additional documentation.
None of my subsequent requests for assistance from TT resulted in action points for resolution. Each agent had a different suggestion on how to handle the amendment, and despite being advised there were “notes added to my account”, each conversation began anew as though I were a stranger. Being subject to a system of taxation that carries the potential for life-altering punishments should a mistake arise is stressful enough. To then be taken advantage of by a company who happily benefits financially from the fear of that system is unconscionable. I will never again use TurboTax, and I would encourage others to take advantage of the many free options available for filing your taxes. If your taxes are complex enough to require assistance, please hire a reputable CPA.

However, for this most recent year they sent both of my returns (federal and state) to the wrong account and the process to get this resolved has been a nightmare. They contract this work to a separate company (Tax Products Group) which informed me that this has been happening to a lot of customers. What's frustrating about this whole experience is that it is hard to talk to someone with an understanding of the whole issue - everyone seems to have a narrow view with no accountability. I don't know where my return was sent, I don't know if it will be reissued, and there's no one to turn to because all you're given is a phone number and an email address for TPG. I have always been able to use free versions of programs to file my taxes. Since Credit Karma had changed its name, I decided to try TurboTax instead this year. At first, I was impressed with how easily it was to just drop in all my forms, however, it quickly became a nuisance when I had to keep reviewing the documents and it wouldn't save my changes. There was some kind of glitch about how they were imported that took forever to find and fix. In the end, it actually took me much longer than if I had just done in manually. Then I got to the part for the Educator Expense Deduction. As a teacher, I have always appreciated this part of the taxes and have never had a problem inputting it, as it's a simple entry. However, Turbotax informed me that this is not included in their free version. FOR AN EDUCACTOR EXPENSE CREDIT! Teachers already are undervalued and underpaid in this country, and upgrading would have cost more than the credit itself.
I cannot believe Turbotax would stoop that low. Since I was already so far into the process, I continued just to get it done. After many more times of having to review documents and it not saving, I finally was able to file. I was surprised by how much I owed, but was ready to be done. When I finally went through the last step of filing and tried to submit, it was THEN that they told me I would have to upgrade for $170! They said it was due to stocks, bonds, etc. I have never had an issue with filing these for free in other programs. Despite the fact that I had spent HOURS filling out all the information, I was not paying them a cent.
I went to Cash App, the new version of Credit Karma and was able to fill out everything much faster and easier. To top it off, I ended up owing $500 less federally and actually got close to a $300 refund for state, despite the fact that Turbotax came up with me owing state taxes. So essentially, not only was I able to save $170 by filing for free somewhere else, but I also saved $800 in taxes by using Cash App instead. I will never file with Turbotax again.

I had to call in several times to get the answer to my tax question. I should be refunded for the difference of that service because the issue is still not resolved. I overlooked it and figured maybe it happened due to under staffing and high call volumes. However, the Mexican young lady that I spoke to on Feb. 13th was extremely rude and unwilling to assist.
I remember her leaving me on hold for 25 minutes while she stated that it takes that long to transfer clients to a tax advisor. She stated to me, "Okay so I updated your account." I said, "wait a minute; I didn't ask or give you permission to make any changes to my account." I asked her what she did to my account, and she hung up. So I proceeded to start the process of doing my 2021 taxes and had a hard time signing in after answering the credentials corrected. I called in dreadfully and requested to speak to security. After six years with a simple income, I have normally spent 45 minutes at Turbotax to e-file for free. After being railroaded into appearing to have to pay $39 this year, when I approved that amount they took out $78 instead. THIS E-FILING SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE. I don't blame you if you don't believe what happened next.
Turbotax has been blocking me from filing to receive a $2,400 return pending a first time ever government form they claim they need but will not identify. I checked with H&R Block and verified they would not need any unusual government form this year so obviously I must have made an error this year. [H&R Block needs a hard to obtain AIG from last year. Turbotax has it.] Whatever error I must have made is holding up a $2,400 est. return.
But to add insult to the $78 injury, according to Turbox that $78 ripoff step LOCKS YOUR ACCOUNT and you cannot go back and amend it. I can't go back, search for that error and correct it. IT HAS BEEN FOUR WEEKS and I have heard nothing from Turbotax NOTHING. And I cannot go back into my data, search for, and correct the error myself.
So, after FOUR weeks of waiting, waiting, waiting on a tax filing that should have taken forty five minutes last February, with no communication from Turbotax, today I decided to give them one last chance as I still hoped to get around the IRS [for that AIG I would need for another tax preparer.] Not.Getting through their convoluted "help" menu which is completely worthless, I was asked for and submitted my work phone number and was told I would be called by someone in 9 minutes. THAT WAS OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF AGO! Terminal error. Full stop.
So now I'm going to have to dump the dead end that $78 paid for, and go to H&R Block or just cut to the chase, and white knuckle the federal and state IRS bureaucracy try to e-file [more directly] all over again - which I really do not look forward to... I just wish I had googled reviews first. If you are reading this and other reviews, here, you have done something much wiser than I...

WOW, wrong. Been using TurboTax for years doing my kids' taxes. This year 2021 the Federal were easy. But I live in Iowa and they tax you on previous year federal refunds. This year TurboTax forgot to put in the federal refunds on the state returns, i processed and they checked all forms to make sure they were correct, everything was right and no mistakes. So I e-filed and made copies of them, I thought the state refunds seemed a little high, but the reviews said no mistakes, then I started getting calls from my kids that their state refunds were less by 2-300.00, so I looked at the letter and right away I found out that their 2020 federal refunds were missing from the state returns.
Sure enough TurboTax must of had a glitch in their system, we pay good money to file the state returns and they should be correct, so we all got together and just thought that TurboTax knew that there was a problem and decided to let it go and see if the state would catch it. WELL THEY DID. Thanks TurboTax, also I do know that you found the mistake 4 weeks after they were filed, I did a mock up amended state return and it was very sneaky that the correct refund amount of the one I did was corrected, everyone I did were all wrong but nothing was told to us. I called 3 times and first time the lady just hung up on me after saying she can’t figure out why her software doesn’t even work. Second silence with the person on the other line making noise. Third just to voicemail? How does your software have a bug where it can’t support two mortgage interest entries? I mean that’s like tens of millions of people! Horrible! 2. You can't even ask a generalized question to make sure you are going in the right direction or which offer to pick.
3. The cx-rep asks for your name and email address then just hangs up on you. No call back, didn't ask me for a call back number incase of drops, nothing... (I would Never, let my reps ask for the info without a call back number.)
4. They don't have more information on how to handle situations or if we have such questions online to help so I wont have to call in.
5. Also I thought I signed up for 3 years to be able to speak with someone wanted to ask that question, but got no-where because, I got hung-up on.

I have been using TurboTax for several years, no problems. This year for the first time I applied for the refund advance. The advance required you to open a spending account with Credit Karma. Because I was in a desperate situation, I opted to open up the account, because according to TurboTax, I met the requirements. The ad state “most taxes are deposited usually within 1-2 hours". It’s has not ever deposited in 1-2 hours, per a TurboTax Representative. But they use these words to draw people into a falsehood. So now I have my refund going to this stupid credit karma spending account, when my refund for the past 10 years have gone to my same bank account.
I would have never opted into getting this rinky dink account, If I would have known that my refund would have to go thru a application process that never tells you if you are approved or denied. I have spoken with several TurboTax reps and not one was able to give me any answers or even tried to help. They all read from a script. I used TurboTax for about 10 years, after this year’s fiasco, I WILL NEVER EVER USE TURBOTAX!! And I’m also seeking legal advice.

I did my taxes with them as I do every year, and then out of nowhere Turbotax was like, "You’re done, now all you need to do is submit your payment, and we will submit your taxes to the IRS." I submitted my payment, and then Turbotax took me back to the beginning, and they took the amount that I was supposed to get way down, it went from $9000-$1000, and I could not understand why. I paid $250 with them, and I tried to contact them to let them know that I did not submit my tax, due to I don’t know what they did to my taxes. Turbotax told me to put in a claim online, and it will take seven business days, they close my claim without even looking at it, and I wasn’t able to talk to customer service over the phone. They sent me right back to the website and told me to go there, and of course Turbotax was no help online, nor over the phone.
Turbotax took my $250, and I never sent my taxes to the IRS through TurboTax. I had to go somewhere else, and start the process all over again, and pay another company to help me do my taxes again correctly. I do not recommend you go to TurboTax, because if they made an error on their end, and it involves money, you’re not getting your money back. It’s been two years now since I haven’t used TurboTax, and I’ve been using TurboTax for years, and I’m not going back.
I call myself trying to make a payment instead of having it come out of my refund, because if you make a payment now the payment is a lot more less than it would be if you take it out of your tax refund. If you decide to use TurboTax for the first time, or if you are a returning TurboTax user, please keep in mind, do not make a payment from a debit or a credit card, have them take it out of your tax refund just in case if they pull something shady towards the end of submitting your taxes to the IRS.

In the middle of the process, without any warning, it simply said that you can't continue with your current option, switch to premium. I believe that's a total rip off and I would have appreciated a warning from the start based on the information in the prior year returns (I have filed with them for more than 5 years and my situation has not changed). Charged me for services I didn't want or need, then charged me again when it was time to file. I had to pay to file on top of what I already paid them. So, basically, they told me I needed to purchase their software, because I had unemployment, but I didn't. I chose NO. I received no unemployment benefits for the year, but the software was convinced I did anyway. I think this was a bug having to do with the fact I did last year, but not this year and it was trying to carry over information and autofill forms. I bit the bullet and paid for the software, because there seemed to be no way around it, but then upon filing they said I needed to upgrade to deluxe. Mind you, the only income I claimed was my W2. This was going to cost me another $39 to upgrade, on top of purchasing the other software already.
Customer service told me the only way to get out of it and switch back to my already purchased software was to reset my forms and start over from scratch, so I tried that. At this point I was notified that I was unable to clear the forms, because I had already purchased and paid for a product. My choice eventually came down to pay the upgrade fee and file, or don't pay, file through someone else, and be out the money I paid for the first product. All while Intuit advertises that my situation qualifies for free file. A simple W2 with no state income tax. Do not trust Intuit or their customer service department. This year's taxes were the biggest hassle I've ever experienced trying to get all of this fixed, which I never did. I will never use them or anyone they are associated with again.

The pricing structure needs to be more transparent from the get-go.

I bought the product with live help, hoping that when I use it to prepare my tax returns and encounter issues I can actually get some help to figure out what went wrong. After I spend many hours inputting information from 1099s and K-1's alike (which I keep wondering why in this age of AI and OCR why couldn't TurboTax let its customer drop the pdf and do the entries for them). When I arrived at the stage of review, the system keeps giving me some nonsensical errors in one state return and asks me to fix them. I called the live help, I then talked with about half a dozen "experts" in TurboTax. None of them had the slightest idea why the errors came up and even less on how to fix them.
After spent the entire day with these "experts" and going nowhere, I decided cut that state from e-filing and just print the copy of return and mail it in (it was just a couple of days before the deadline). The next day, I found that another state that I e-filed the day before has rejected my return because in the return there was a "withholding" amount in one of the final lines that can't be found at any supporting document I have entered. I was sure I didn't put this withholding amount in and it was generated by the TurboTax software.
I called in for live help, I spoke with 3 "experts", they insisted that I must have inputted the number myself (actually one of them didn't even go that far, she just talked about how my FEDERAL return was rejected, which it was not). Then I asked them is there any way to track down where this number or numbers that add to this number were inputted, they either didn't know or didn't want to tell me. When I asked one of them is it possible that I delete the state return and regenerate, she say, "Yes, you should do Tools->Clear and Start Over".
I asked her if this would cause everything to be deleted and I have to reenter everything, she said yes. I then ask her how she could have lightly suggested this knowing it would cause many days' work being lost. She said, "You asked for it". This made me realize that I have been dealing with people who have been very inadequately trained and who have no knowledge of inner working of the software. It can really cause major harms to its user.

When I notified Turbo tax they basically told me it wasn't their problem, though of course in a very round about way.
TPG basically is unreachable, and after a month of waiting for this magical cashier's check that disappeared into the void, I think it was never sent, I'm told my only option is to either have then resend the check that I still think never happened, or let them send my return back to the IRS and they won't tell me how to claim my money at that point. How I see a tool like Turbotax is given its digital nature, it's able to cross reference inputs you may have entered incorrectly. For example, if you have two scenarios where it asks you for your property tax, it should either not ask me twice so as to prevent me from entering in incorrect information or it should pre-populate when asking for that information again it to allow me to check I entered it correctly. It's these kind of values that makes using a digital tool helpful. Unsure if the platform was making updates but it failed to do so in my 2019 return and now I'm being audited. When asking Audit Defense if I can refile due to the error, the representative in that service (separate company by the way), he said I couldn't and really only could either pay the fines or proceed with the audit. So if I had not used Turbotax to file and just used paper filing or purchase Audit Defense, I would be in the same situation I am now, figuring all this out by myself.
What did I pay for? Both of these services and tools I paid did not provide the things they promised. When I called in to get a refund for those services only for that year, I was routed to a community page to "file a request for a refund" but that form didn't exist. And in looking deeper, a refund wouldn't of been approved given it was past 60 days. A great loophole given most filing and audit request happen years after the fact. The product and service maybe good for the average 1040 filing but nothing else more complicated. 1 star for the bad business practices and inability for long time customers like myself to get resolution. No longer will use the product.

I was led to upgrade from the free version to Deluxe for my Federal Return, which I did and submitted. When I went to do my state taxes as normal, it was forcing me to continue in Deluxe and since I had already submitted my Federal, I was unable to change back to Free.
I called Customer Service and explained my situation, the woman gave me a code to downgrade the service and discount it so I wouldn't have to pay for the Deluxe version. I was instructed to put the code in at checkout and proceed as normal, which I did, but it still charged me $180 that I wasn't supposed to pay. Frustrated, I called Customer Service again, was transferred a few times and then told because I checked out (as I was told to do by their other representative), I was fine paying that amount. Clearly I wasn't accepting of that amount when I had called to get it fixed before checking out.
I called Customer Service and got a wonderful agent of 11 years who I believe truly tried her best to help me and seemed to understand my situation, but in the end she was unable to get past the same roadblock of her superior telling her since I paid, even though I was instructed to check out as I did, that nothing could be done. I contacted support through email and followed some steps that the last representative had given me, but after months of hearing nothing I am giving up.
DO NOT EVER UPGRADE with TurboTax, they will force you to do all of your returns in the upgrade, even if you do not need it, and there is absolutely NO warning about that and you'll end up paying more than it's worth. 0/10 recommend anything but the free version and customer service is cookie-cutter only, they won't help you if you have a real problem and they won't take responsibility if it's their fault.

Rollover to beginning of May, the issue is still unresolved and Turbotax has no recourse to resolve the problem. I spent over 1.5 hours on the phone and tech support is not able to resolve the issue. The best advice they had "why did nobody open an investigation". Complete and total fail.

I have used Turbo Tax for several years and didn't have a problem until this year (2021). The online service made errors in my Federal tax return for 2020. My refund was withheld for two months and then when I received it, it was only $147...much smaller than the refund amount that Turbo Tax reported. I received a letter from the IRS a week later, stating that a miscalculation was made on my 1040SR which affected recovery rebate credit. I have tried several ways to report this to Turbo Tax but it is impossible to reach anyone. I will never use this service again and will alert others that Turbo Tax does make errors.

They advertise free returns but keep forcing you to switch to more expensive packages anytime you try to enter info more complicated than your average high schooler tax return. Frustrating, if expected. The final straw though was when they wanted $40 extra for the convenience of having them take their ridiculous fees out of my return. I never had to pay extra for that in the past. It's sad that they are comfortable robbing people who need their returns the most in the middle of an international crisis.

I've been using TT because of its high UX and the fact that I can upload tax docs into it, etc. This year it was a ghastly experience, with a lot of hang ups where I had to keep asking my financial advisor what the heck TT was looking for. Interestingly, she uses it as well and had the same feedback. I wonder if their free version is cannibalizing their premium one so they have deliberately introduced UX stutters to panic people and make them buy the costlier version. I am considering switching to another software like HR Block next year, because I dislike feeling manipulated and I've used HRB before and it was reasonably easy. What made TT so appealing did not apply this year.

I've used the PC installed disks since 2001. Usually you can go back into your tax return, look at deductions and forms like 1099-G etc to see if one is missing. This web version was poorly done and does not let you go back in to see your return after you file it, other than a PDF. So I ended up with a 1099-G in hand that was not put into the return, and their web version will not let me put in to check. When I was in the income section before submitting it, their system would not let me put in the 1099-G and said it would come up later in the state section. There were no screens in the State section to put in any 1099's, none clearly labeled anyways.
I then have been clicking around for 45 minutes, and there absolutely is NO WAY to see your return inputs once you have filed it. It also does NOT show you the amend return menu even AFTER the fed return was accepted. So at this point, I can't get back into the return (where you input text strings and values) nor can I start to create an amended one. I am hoping their poorly done interface will let me go into an amended return later after the Stateside is accepted. This web version is a joke. What a rip off. It's programmed by weak managers and people at Turbo Tax that obviously have not used their program or tested it. You should stay with the PC installed version so you can actually access your return info as needed.

When I use the app help function to find out how to input it, it says to tap the button bellow. Button doesn't work. I asked why the button doesn't work, it suggested reinstalling the app I just installed not even 3 minutes prior. It also asked if I earned any digital income, but never asks how I got it or how much. So I tried using the website. Won't let you there, either.

So I tried calling the number for their direct deposit card I have and found out I have a negative balance. Now I have two questions. However, they keep putting me on hold to speak to a representative, then hanging up while I'm on hold, before I ever get connected to a representative. I have had an issue for over a year with Intuit. There is a glitch in their programming that they refuse to fix and only after 10 customer service complaints that they finally elevated me to a supervisor and she acknowledge that it was a flaw in their programming. She made many promises and none were kept. The symptoms of the issue is basic, their billing system will not allow me to electronically file taxes or purchase their product. The supervisor said it was trying to calculate tax for a electronic order (which should be) and it wouldn't know how to proceed so it would just tell me my card is invalid which is not true.
My biggest complaint is the customer service tech would get to a place that her pat answers didn't work and so they would conveniently hang up or disconnect the call and close the case so then I would be back at square one. Each call wasted upwards of an hour of my time, half of which was trying to get a level one minimum wage tech to understand the issue. They would then proceed to follow their flow chart through the same process over and over again until they would get frustrated and disconnect the call.
Only once was I able to finally able to convince the tech to elevate my call. And again round and round we would go through the same flow chart. Only then did the supervisor discover the issue to which she made many promises that were not kept. I should be able to get on a call, talk to a tech and if the problem is not resolved within a few minutes be automatically elevated to an appropriate tech support technician where if they could not resolve my issue a case number would be opened and worked until fixed. The case would not be closed until it was resolved. The consumer should get daily updates via email and a constant line of communication establish in case the tech crew need more information from or interaction with the consumer.
I may only be one customer but I will tell every person I have a tax or money conversation with about my horrid experience. I would not recommend you by intuit products or if you do, don't expect any assistance with it. Changing product that uses a database backend make it very difficult to switch to a different brand without starting all over again. TurboTax, and Quicken are two examples of this.

This is completely legal and even is an option that appears at the top of the 1040 form but there was no way to change my status from single in their program. This would cost me a couple of thousand dollars.
I am knowledgeable so I knew this was an issue but I thought of all the people that don't know this and would blindly go down the Turbo Tax path possibly overpaying thousands of dollars in taxes based on income. After all of this, they agreed to refund my $140 (note: I never filed my return with them but based on possible work-arounds suggested by their representatives, I did go all the way to the end a couple of times) but I still have not received a refund. You can start, save, come back the next day or even the next week (as long as you mind the deadline to file!) and continue or finish on Turbo Tax. You can get interactive help instantly if needed. Even a rookie can understand the step by step procedures. Great stuff!!

When I tried to use Turbo Tax this year my info would not transfer from last year into this tax year. I called and was told I needed to proceed with the "Live Assist" even though I wanted to downgrade the product so as to eliminate the live assist charge. Then the lady told me to call back when I was ready to submit the return and Turbo Tax would rebate the difference. I did everything I was advised to do, but when I called back I was then told there are no such changes available and that I had to pay the higher amount (about $100 more) in order to submit the return. This was very underhanded. I will not use Turbo Tax again.

Easy to navigate but a bit of bait and switch during the process. They only give you a certain amount of help before you have to "upgrade" to a higher price product. When you navigate through the help screens they often say you'll go over it later, but you really don't ever get an answer you can relate to.

We've been using TurboTax for a number of years and being able to have our historical records from the past has made it's very easy to go back in time. Also we have used both the state version and federal versions and both have been easy to use and self-explanatory for the most part. It's a good user tax tool.

While the TurboTax product itself is good, I had a terrible experience with their Customer Support people. I paid for the level that provides support for the assurance that I can get help with any problems. However I had to spend hours with a total of seven different Product Support/tax Specialists to solve a problem that prohibited me filing my returns. One support person cut me off on the phone and another promised to call me back with a solution after I spent 45 minutes with them but never called back. I even had a review with one of their CPA's but still my problem was not solved and I could not file my return even though I had already paid TurboTax. With each of the seven people, I had to re-explain my issue again as if they kept no record of my previous conversations on my account. Finally, the seventh person solved my problem with a very simple solution.

Full disclosure, I have used TurboTax for eight years and found it generally easy to use, as long as you have your information together before starting. Each year I get an email with a link to the product for the current years' filing. So it was for tax year 2020. Logged in and immediately saw changes. The site is confusingly hard to navigate, the user must stay in lock step with the software program or you stall with no recourse. There is no opportunity to contact Intuit through chat or email.
BUT the biggest complaint I have is the hidden fees. That's right. we all know there will be a fee to pay but what you find in this years product is a fee increase that takes no note of the economic times in which middle America is living, and you must pay the Intuit fee before being given the choice of paying IRS by card. THEN it is disclosed that there is a fee for using the card and it is a hefty one. If I had known this before paying for the service I would have used another product, as I will next year. Sneaky and cheap Intuit. I gave it two stars because in the end you get a finished return but for what they are now charging you can get a CPA to do a simple return. Gone, Gone, Gone.

We have used them for several years now after trying numerous others. The key, if your income is under $75,000, is to go to the IRS website and then go to free file to pull up TurboTax. It is exactly the same as the pay version. The others we have tried and used for comparison did not give us the credits due so we were going to get less back..

I have used Intuit - Turbo Tax for the past 5 years without any problems. All I have to do each year is record any new information. Since I am retired there is not very much new information to record. Intuit checks each entry in each section of your taxes. When complete they will check the completed tax form for any mistakes or questionable item recorded. The cost is very reasonable.

This year is even more confusing to me and at the end, it did not provide me with a clear "To-Do List" for what to send and what to include. I'm a bit lost. Worst yet, they took you to a weird website at the end and trying to sell you more stuff! I ended up paying over $300 for a simple federal+state tax filing, and I'm not even own any business! I also encountered problems with this program - during the final review, it changed my W2 info and I had to go way back to correct it! Also, it created things that I don't even enter.... Creepy stuff. When I want to ask for expert's help to resolve this, it told me that I had to make an appointment and the earliest time is two weeks later... I gave up. Tried all of their fixes and they opened a ticket finally. So we agreed that I would try to file the return with the two errors in it. So you have to pay first. So I pay and nope - it won't let me file. So I call them back and we do a request for a refund that is supposed to take 5 - 7 days. It has been 6 weeks. Now - I’ve used Turbo Tax for the last 5 years with no real issues- in fact it’s been a good product up until now-
10 hours after I filed my returns - I received emails from turbo tax that both the state and the federal files have been accepted by the IRS - however- I spent that day on the phone with the IRS and they deny any file has been received and- I have no record of owing any money - rather the opposite. Now— in this conversation— how?? was $2400 owed- withdrawn from my broke account? Confirmed by turbo- denied by the IRS and - has turbo tax been compromised? Is this a filing error on my end? Because the only thing I’ve done all of covid is do the filing and reporting asked by our state and government officials. I’m hurting pretty bad now- not knowing if I have a lot more to be concerned with. As of January - unemployment has frozen- they’ve had me file a new claim 4 times in the last 6 weeks and I have not received any payment- it’s a disaster and turbo tax is not helping me
