I have been using the online version of TurboTax and paying for it to do my taxes for years. This year, I made a couple of minor adjustments to my federal return, but they were not reflected in my state return. After paying to e-file my returns, an error check caught the mistake. However, the box was grayed out/disabled, and I'm unable to change it to reflect what I entered on the federal return. I'm also unable to go back and file by mail either. It says I already paid to have my returns e-filed. So, I can't go forward and e-file and can't go back and file by mail. I think they want me to upgrade to most expensive product which is totally unnecessary. Just fix your programming glitch would you?!!!!

I used TurboTax in the past and the process was easy and came at a good price, not anymore. DO NOT USE TURBO TAX. This year the cost rose significantly and the process was NOT easy. The app was chock-full of glitches and never ending security checks/log ins. I could have had my taxes done for half the price and a lot less bull crap. Not to mention it took hours and hours to do online. Stay far, far away from turbo tax. Give your money to a local tax preparer instead.

Unfortunately, I will no longer be using TurboTax after using it for 17 years due to a complete lack of customer service for help with logging in. There is NO process to reset a password and the verification code process is severely broken, after you receive the code to enter into the box it repeats incorrect password!! The AI for customer service is clueless and no opportunity to speak to a representative or chat online to fix the issue. In the past I have purchased Turbotax CD, downloaded the updates, and completed my taxes. I am sure Turbotax will lose a lot of business this year.

Basic return with a 1099 nec upcharged $209. Called prior to filing and they sent me a code that was supposed to waive the fee. Come to find out the code did nothing. This is wrong on all levels. Adding a 1099 nec takes 2 min on a paper form. Then when called out on it, I get a smoke show. Take your business elsewhere. Scam artist is too nice of a term.

2024 software put my W2 box 14k $1543.77 dental insurance info in the wrong place as box 12k golden parachute. I didn't catch the software error until a few days after I filed. I read another Google review of someone else having a similar experience with Turbo Tax Software putting info in the incorrect location. I looked at my return and sure enough the software made the same error. My W2 was a clear PDF upload not a photo. I did contact help and that was absolutely no help. Better help was available from online forms. I was able to amend my FED and State return for free using Turbo Tax, big deal. In the end according to Turbo Tax it was my fault for not reviewing data that was automatically inputted by the software. I've used Turbo Tax Software for many years and count on accuracy of the software. This year I was let down.

No accuracy... The child tax credit as well as the earned income tax credit was not applied. Intuit claimed I was not eligible. Weeks later I received letters from the irs stating I am eligible. The customer service reps the 3 I'd talked to were no help. The first one told me just call the irs though I'll probably be on hold for hours just call them. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor, who "disconnected" my call. After waiting on hold an hour to speak to someone else I amended my returns just to get charged again for Intuit's errors. Finally I speak to a 3rd rep to hear her talking to people in her home based office before speaking with me. Supposedly within seconds she requested a refund for the services I paid for. I'll never use intuit again.

Very dissatisfied. 1. They didn't say that you would have to buy individual State returns at $55. I think it is a deceptive trade practice. 2. Then in Texas, you can’t send the return electronically because Turbotax uses the prior years “Revenue” as the validation. Unfortunately, the State eliminated the filing of the form that provides that number when you don't have a tax liability. For $55 it should have resolved this since the law changed 2 years ago. Very disappointed.

Greetings Everyone! I cannot believe that Turbo Tax operates in such a mediocre way. My mother's tax return is not that complicated. Turbo tax did not allow her to review the forms until she paid, and turbo tax filed it to the IRS. Well, we did exactly that and now... after filing it their way, I found three errors in the filing. I tried to call since April 4th to correct the errors that turbo tax committed and until now April 7th, I am still trying to find the original "tax expert" to send the amendments.

This is getting beyond frustration, and I am worried that the IRS will give us trouble. From now on, I am going to do my own taxes!! I cannot recommend Turbo Tax whatsoever due to their: carelessness filling out forms, inability by the customer to review forms before sending them to the IRS, horrible customer service who cannot find a solution to the easy problem to fix, and unwillingness to cooperate with their clients to solve the issue at hand. I made a huge mistake by using Turbo Tax services!! Don't you dare people to use Turbo Tax.!!!

Constantly finding tricky ways to add stuff to your cart. Pretend to give "full satisfaction guarantee", but refuses to do refunds, even if return is rejected by the IRS. If you have anything additional besides basic W-2, they start adding on hundreds of dollars to your expense. I had an 800 dollar return and Turbo Tax wanted over 125$ of it. I could have hired a real professional for the same price. My taxes were so simple I could have taken them to the IRS and done them by hand. Turbo Tax used to be a solid service, now they are just nickel and diming you out huge % chunks of your returns.

Used for 2024 after a 2 year break; coming back to what I remembered as being an easier experience. It's like a different product and user experience now -*not* for the better. Problem 1: I have a lot of itemized deductions and TT requires information that it doesn't put onto any form. Problem 2: My spouse started SS this year. TT defaults to 1040-SR (no Itemized deductions). No way to change it. Problem 3: "Customer service" is via AI assist - which has a very limited repertoire. Very aggravating. After 30 minutes yelling "no" and "agent please" at a machine repeating its canned responses finally got a live agent. Problem 4: Agent 1 sent me a BLANK 1040 to use for a manual filing that I was supposed to fill in myself?!? What did I pay for again?

Called back, another 30 minutes with the AI, and final got a 2nd agent; same solution. So I asked for a refund. I had to correct them on the issue several times and do not know what they actually put in for the reason for refund. Refund refused: "TurboTax Online can be used at no cost up until the point that you submit payment. Once payment has been received, the product is considered to have been used to prepare your taxes, regardless of whether you print or electronically file your return, or if it's rejected." No manner of appeal offered.

First, Turbo Tax Premier 2024 has operating errors. I receive 1099R income which is non-taxable. Turbo Tax Premier will not accept $0.00 in line 2 for the taxable amount. Thus, it would not allow me to file my taxes. I got Turbo Tax technical assistance. After stating the software was not operating properly, the agent instructed me leave line 2 blank.

After doing so, the Turbo Tax analysis showed no errors and allowed me to file my taxes. However, after doing so, I realized that while line 2 was blank, Turbo Tax reported the full distribution as taxable income resulting in my taxes being $2836 higher than I owe and my having to manually file an amended tax return, which required additional hours of my time. Second, because of the Turbo Tax error, I requested a refund from Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax responded as follows, "We are unable to process the refund for TY2024 TurboTax Desktop Premier DIY Advantage Case #1547896546 at this time. The retailer the product was purchased from is not one of TurboTax/Intuit's authorized retailers so we are unable to process a direct refund. I have been using Turbo tax for years. This year's filing for 2024 was a fiasco. Somehow they miscalculated that portion of my SS earnings which was taxable but not knowing it was wrong, I went ahead and had turbotax file the return online. This was followed by two notices from the IRS that there was a math error and instead of getting a $2,400 refund I had to pay $900. I called turbotax twice trying to figure out how they came up with the taxable amount but was told I'd have to pay extra to talk with a turbotax specialist. Discovered later that the calc is simply 85% of gross SS wages. How could turbotax make such a mistake??!! I'm thru with them.

I WAS a long-time loyal customer of Intuit Turbo Tax. This will be my LAST year using them. What a scam. I have always prepared my own taxes with no assistance. There was not a way to move forward this year until you "tried assisted for free". I didn't want nor need assisted services. At the end of the process, I was charged at least $70.00 more than I should have for assisted services. I was so ANGRY that I tried to chat, to no avail.

I figured if I am getting charged for assisted then I'll have an agent call me so I can tell them exactly what I think of their scummy technique of getting more money out of people in the end. No surprise ... And error message popped up stating, "We hit a snag. We know this isn't ideal but try again or come back later." What a joke. I'm going to file a complaint with American Express for fraudulent charges. I'm willing to pay for what I owe, but no more.

This year after completely finishing my return with them and trying to sign off, it prompted me that I had to “upgrade to the $199 TurboTax premium” over a capital loss carryover form which in previous years has never caused this. They wait until you finish your taxes and then prompt you that you have to upgrade to this or cannot continue. If you are into investing and try to add 1099-B manually it takes literally forever as you navigate through ever so helpful prompts. If you try to import from broker, that works, but now Turbotax decides to skip creating 8949 sometimes. Good luck trying to verify anything. Oh, and navigating from calculated number to data source is the worst I've ever used (TaxAct, H&R block). We ended up having a correct entry in 8949 that we could not find in 1099-b (spent hours).

I am a long-time TurboTax user. Changes in TT software over the years make me question whether I need to find an alternate tax preparation solution. When I first began using TurboTax, years ago, I was very pleased as I have a somewhat complicated tax return that has included 2 working spouses, various sources of income (e.g., bank account interest, rental income, capital gains), and quite a few charitable deductions. The input of data benefited from carryover of data from the previous years, which saved a lot of time. The TT forms were relatively consistent for some time. But - In the last 5 years, I have found some pretty substantial changes in data entry, to the point that I can’t find, without consulting a customer service rep, how to enter something as simple as sale of a small piece of land.

At the same time, input of a cryptocurrency transaction seems to be readily available. (Not sure how many people are into crypto as opposed to selling their house or land.) I’ve also run into a massive problem in accessing + printing tax forms from prior years. In the case of foreign taxes paid on capital gains, a small but powerful credit against taxes due, it could not be more difficult on a relatively simple issue. (The new AI assistant recognized that this is a problem area, but I found that it had not been fixed.)

Finally, problems with entry of data on an RMD (an IRA issue) resulted in the miscalculation of taxes due on my return. This problem was not found in the TT expert review, but only when I questioned the inclusion of an unusual IRS form on my return, I found the problem myself of inclusion as income of a QCD (charitable contribution / non-taxable income that should’ve been excluded from income). And other problems too complicated to list in a general purpose review. Estimated time to complete my return - under 2 hours. Actual online time to complete my federal return - roughly 16 hours. That’s roughly 3-4 hours per day over 5 days. I call taxes the price of civilization, as I see countries with huge problems with tax evasion paying the price in failed infrastructure and other problems. I have a lot of other things to do with my life, other than struggling with hostile, complicated software.

There are many options to prepare and file your Tax Returns, so, stay clear from TurboTax - They charge you over $280.00 before your taxes have been actually e-filed, and when they fail to deliver, they refuse to give you a reimbursement. The only value this or any other Tax Return preparation service has to offer nowadays is E-Filing. However, their software is not well integrated with the IRS Systems, producing constant errors that will likely prevent you from e-filing and forcing you to send your Tax Returns by snail mail.

And they will deny you a refund, using the most silly and opportunistic excuses, as if they had provided you with knowledge and support that was not readily available at no cost all over the internet. It is a total scam, not worth it anybody's time or money. Last year (2024, filing for FY2023) we used TurboTax for a first time, and due to an error when typing the Total Gross Income for FY2022, the Tax Returns were rejected...TWELVE times! And twelve times we tried to correct them, working with their so called experts, only to see them rejected time and again.

We ended up sending them by mail and paying a fine to the IRS for submitting our returns late. This year we faced a similar problem though our numbers were correct and verified from the start with the IRS Transcripts in hand. They tried to have us take the same road, improvising answers and repeating no-solutions over and over. We ended up having to print them and sending them by snail mail again. Their integrations with the IRS system are simply broken, e-filing is not possible and they won't admit it, but they will take your money.

I filed my taxes using an Expert in TurboTax for 2023. In 2024 they doubled the charges to file my returns. This made me look out for alternatives and to my surprise - Turbo Tax has been filing my returns incorrectly. The expert did below mistakes in 2023 returns:

    1. Included my RSU income twice thereby increasing my tax liability.

    2. Did not include a huge part of income leading to a Notice from IRS.

For 2024 also, the same expert double counted RSU income which would have led to us paying more tax again. I think this is basic for any tax consultant and Turbo Tax expert has failed miserably for me. After changing my Tax consultant not only I have got refund for 2023 but tax liability is down considerably Vs what Turbo Tax Expert wanted me to pay. Turbo Tax claims 100% Guarantee for your returns however in my case they failed miserably in their guarantee. My Suggestion to who so ever is using turbo tax - please do your calculations as well. Maybe you owe lesser or your refund is higher than what expert in Turbo Tax is providing you.

Ultimately, they did refund the $94 and the $69 upgrade was also removed by me manually removing the charges on the left hand side of the screen. Turbotax adds new sneaky fees each year, Last year customer were required to decline upgrades a minimum or 50 times while preparing your taxes. If you hit the wrong button the only option they provide is to delete all all the inputs for that year and reload the Turbotax app and start over. Seriously, this should be illegal.

"Sorry but we are unable to file your return at this time." Horrible experience with Turbotax. 1st The accountant was available ONLY 3 days a week. 2nd The communication was so sparce and bits and pieces. 3rd After multiple attempts to talk to the accountant over the phone I gave up with trying. I asked and she was like, we can do everything via electronic communication. 4th The accountant tried to get me to BUY another product of Intuit to clean up my books. I am a low income tax payer. TurboTax advertises FREE taxes for people like me and they do not make it easy to find the "free" online platform. Nevertheless I got to the end of all the forms and they won't file your paperwork without payment of $128.00. You don't even have an option to file Federal and or State individually. AND Turbo Tax doesn't allow you to view the documents prior to filing. They count on you taking the time and paying at the end to be over with it. No one likes doing their taxes and this bait n switch in my opinion is corrupt! I will NEVER use them again. I only did this time because of Marketplace insurance. They advertised falsely that as a low income tax payer I would not have to pay to file with my state or federally. Hope Trump does away with taxes as he is suggesting for next year and this business will no longer exists. You would deserve it!

The next day I was looking for a receipt as the money was not withdrawn from my account. I reached out to customer service. I was placed on hold and eventually the called dropped after 30 minutes.

I immediately reached back out to customer service and the 2nd representative tone was extremely rude and confrontational. She just kept saying that my receipt will be when the money is withdrawn and will show on my bank account information, or I should contact the IRS personally and find out if payment was received. I find it interesting that even though I had received a text saying that my "federal return was accepted" the IRS does not even have my return listed or any payment activity listed. I still do not know did I pay my taxes? Do I wait and see if it is withdrawn? How long does it take to withdraw from my account? Do I pay on the IRS website? Will I be double charged? So disappointed in Turbo Tax this year. If I owe again next year, I will definitely use a different service next year.

One of my income statements was a 1099-R from the Defense Accounting Service for a pension from a Survivor Benefit Plan. I worked many, many hours trying to get it to get past the "Review". It is an unqualified plan, but the "Review" was trying to make me choose between 2 options (403b or "other qualified plan"), of which mine is neither and no one wants to lie to the IRS! So I tried their Community Notes and asking the "Community". No help from the single reply. I ended up calling the TurboTax Customer Service number. The Customer Rep after quite a bit of time admitted it's a software glitch on their end. She got a technical support person on the line with her to help her. The call took 2+ hours and still wasn't fixed.

In the end they directed me through a bunch of screens and clicking this box and that one to get my return past the "Review", and promised before transmitting it to the IRS, that it would be fixed! Then a most unpleasant surprise.... They then charged me the full price for the Live Assisted income tax return! Almost immediately I then received a notice that the tax return was successfully transmitted! So I was charged $169 for calling them because of their software problem which has no way around. They didn't fix the problem (so others will also experience my nightmare) and then transmitted a return that they admit should be fixed before transmitting it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TurboTax to anyone reading this post.

TurboTax Home & Business Canada has made a troubling change this year by requiring all users to store their private and sensitive information in its online database as a condition of using the software. I purchased this product for $149, expecting—as I’ve done for years—to download it, work offline on my desktop, and keep my data secure and private. Instead, I discovered that even with the desktop version, I’m forced to create a TurboTax account, sign in, and upload my financial details to their servers just to use what I’ve already paid for. This feels like a betrayal of trust and a blatant cash grab—especially since the price seems inflated for self-employed contractors like me, who don’t need the 12 returns it bundles.

What’s worse, there’s no way around it: even the so-called downloadable version won’t function without linking to their online system, where all my personal data is stored—data I assumed would stay local on my computer. Why does TurboTax suddenly require access to my highly sensitive information in their database? This shift not only undermines my comfort and security but also exposes me to yet another risk of fraud. It’s a disappointing departure from the privacy I once relied on with this product.

So, I just hit UPGRADE and expected to get the $222 cost that I saw earlier (my state was $64). Well, guess what? Turns out that it was including TT MAX (which I opted out of at the end just before I went ballistic), and my cost went from $222 to $180 pretax (which is what I expected). I went to file again this year and was charged $179 before I even finished filing, which was way more than last year. Once I saw the final price (which wasn't provided until after the process was nearly finished), I decided to use a free IRS provided website instead. After using the IRS website (TaxSlayer), I had a much more user-friendly time AND noticed discrepancies in the TurboTax filing. I learned that I actually owed $64, not $1, which is what TurboTax was about to submit.

I dealt with 5 or 6 different representatives over the course of a week working on a refund. One of the representatives actually TOLD me that "They don't decline requests from 'us,'" referring to the refund request that the representative was submitting for me. The request the representative submitted was denied, of course, and I was not able to confirm with anyone as to why until almost two weeks after the initial charge.

The refund request was declined three separate times before I attempted to reach someone higher up the ladder. When I finally got them to let me talk to someone higher up, after several hang-ups and false promises, I was given $50 in compensation. Note that I never officially filed through TurboTax nor used any of the information from the filing process in TurboTax to assist me in any way.

I have a very simple tax return, as I am a 20-year-old college student with minimal income, so I find the lack of clarity and misleading "options" to be very misrepresentative of the services being provided. I do not recommend TurboTax to anyone who could better spend their time and money figuring out how to file through a website off the IRS page.

However, when I received my receipt from TurboTax, they charged me $49 for deluxe which I did not authorize!!! I called to complain and they told me that I had to choose the deluxe which I did not have to choose the deluxe. They were not helpful. They were not understanding. They were nasty about it. This year I did my return with the online version. Much to my surprise, once I finished my return the fees for the federal and state online was twice as much as the desktop version I could have gotten at Costco or Sam’s club. The second surprise was that despite the additional cost, you can only do ONE return with the online version. I called TurboTax and they confirmed this. I will never use the online version again!!

I have been using Turbotax for 10+ years. There was an error in the way Turbotax translates worksheet to 2023 RD-109 NR for Kansas City, MO Earnings Tax Return. Line 2 asks for Total number of days worked outside of Kansas City which should be same as Line 1 which asks for Total days worked elsewhere which is 260 days. Line 2 should be 260 which will result in Line 3 being 100%: 2/3*100. That should result in full refund as a non-resident. But it shows line 2 to be 0 in which case line 3 is also 0 and therefore no refund.

Since I worked remote, and never was in Kansas City, MO, I am due for a full refund of the taxes withheld. My refund did not show up and the Kansas City, MO revenue department showed me the error when I called and they corrected it and refunded me. I called Turbotax on June 25, 2024 and pointed out their error. That error is still there in 2024. I overrode entry for line 2 to 260 from 0 and as a result, I am not able to file my return this year yet. I spent an hour with an agent two days ago and still waiting for a response and an update! This should be an easy fix!

The TurboTax 2024 website has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. The layout is confusing, with menus and options that seem to loop back on themselves, making it difficult to navigate or find straightforward answers. Instead of offering clarity, the site feels overly geared toward pushing users into their online software, often at the expense of offering clear, standalone guidance.

The content is repetitive, with the same messages about upgrading or adding services popping up in multiple sections, creating a sense of being constantly upsold rather than supported. Key information about filing processes or product differences is often buried under layers of marketing jargon, leaving users to sift through unnecessary details to find what they actually need.

Overall, the website feels more like a sales funnel than a helpful resource, which can be incredibly off-putting for those just trying to file their taxes efficiently. TurboTax could do much better by streamlining their site, focusing on clarity, and prioritizing user needs over constant sales pitches. It feels like the web content has been modified by DEI hires that have no clue how to present a clear descriptive solution to its customers.

TurboTax's Oregon Tax Return for 2023 is a nightmare. After filing, I received an email on May 6 stating, "Due to an error, TurboTax might not have selected the best deduction option (standard vs itemized) for you, resulting in a possible overpayment." A link in the email was helpful in getting started on amending the return, but it was all downhill once I got into TurboTax. I may have gone a roundabout route but relying on the state forms online seemed like my only sure recourse.

I found the correct schedule online and worked through the directions to realize a refund over $900 Ultimately, I learned that Turbotax had checked a box requesting that I take the standard deduction even if it were a lower amount than itemizing! That had wiped out all my itemized amounts and made it necessary to recreate them. All this required time to determine if an amended return would be worthwhile as well as considerable time floundering around to find a course of action, and finally, time to complete the amended return, sign, print it, weigh it, stamp it, and take it to the post office. There was no clear statement that I could not e-file, but looking for that option used up more time.

TurboTax's email says they are sending a $60 refund in 6-8 weeks, woefully and outrageously inadequate when they should have offered one of their experts to "do your taxes for you, start to finish." I find the language in their email disingenuous, too, when it is quite obvious that all of their customers' Oregon returns must have been botched. How many would choose to take a standard deduction when it was less than their itemized deductions? Another customer who wrote in TurboTax's Community forum stated that he could not get through on the help line and had an additional, expensive problem with TurboTax's computation of his Oregon Kicker. Finally, TurboTax sent me a single email, no text, no phone call, with a weakly stated caution, so how many customers have missed their opportunity to spend a whole afternoon fixing the company's mistakes?

I strongly suggest you use another tax filing software program. I have tried to E-File for 3 years in a row and each time I get a notice from the IRS for rejected return. Most recently I was told to follow the instructions for the rejection notice and put in a "0" for AGI vs. the actual previous year AGI amount - It was too late to try to file again using this information. Consequently the product has resulted in penalties and late fees from the IRS and State. Terrible. I strongly suggest you find another tax program to use.

This is concerning since we rely on the software for accurate calculations. How can we trust the software if it makes such mistakes?

I have been a Turbo Tax customer for 2 decades. Based on my experience for the 2023 tax year, I would recommend that any taxpayer in need of assistance, NOT USE Turbo Tax. I was charged a variety of junk fees by Turbo Tax that were not disclosed in the beginning of the process. These were automatically deducted from my federal tax refund without my knowledge. One of the junk fees was a charge for a Bank/company in Santa Barbara, CA to provide my refund. I chose to have my refund directly deposited into my bank account. But it was not Turbo Tax or Intuit that made the deposit. It was a company with the name TPG Products. The undisclosed fee was $40. Again, this was not disclosed or chosen by me.

There is another fee deducted that is called Max benefits. I did not order this and it was not initially disclosed. The charge is $70. I was also charged for separate fee or my state income tax return, when I was told via a phone call that the state return WAS INCLUDED in the Premium product which I purchased for $130. The additional fee charged to me for the state return was $64. All together, I had a total of $174 in fees, that I did not agree to pay, and they were deducted from my refund without my knowledge. I have been a customer of TurboTax for over 20 years. I have asked that these fees be paid back to me, and my request was dismissed. I would recommend that anyone looking for tax assistance stay away from this company, due to these shoddy and undisclosed business practices.

The Form 4852 was recognized by Turbo Tax before charging me for a service it could not provide. I opened a Case number to get a refund, which was promised by a Turbo Tax representative during an excessively long phone call, but Turbo Tax never refunded the $25 fee. In 2022, the program (and I) did not catch data from my mother-in-law's stock account, resulting in a reporting omission which, with interest and penalties, resulted in a nearly nine thousand-dollar underpayment to the IRS. I called Intuit to determine how to avoid similar errors in the future. I got an agent with a major attitude problem. I explained that I was not looking for blame but that if "we" wanted to keep this account, we (as in Intuit & me) needed to figure out how to avoid this in the future. I was told, "Don't come at me with this...You are responsible for looking through the return...Don't put this on me," and he hung up. Problem solved....we will no longer use Turbo Tax.

I have used TurboTax for several years with few complaints, but also very, very simple taxes. Single filer, no special circumstances. I generally pay for additional "coverage" when prompted such as representation in case of audit, Live assistance with questions, etc. This is typically a few hundred dollars. In several years I have twice had some questions beyond the scope of the most basic tax return possible. One related to stock market activity (minor, was playing with the market in small amounts for a few months), and another related to tax obligations while traveling overseas.

On both "special" cases the TurboTax staff/consultants were unable to answer my questions or resolve my issues/errors encountered on their platform. In both of these cases I spoke with several agents at various times, screenshared, and explained my problems again and again. In both cases my problems were not resolved, and I easily invested hours both times into explaining and re-explaining my problem. In one case, the agent I was chatting with disconnected abruptly after an hour or more of interaction with no warning or follow-up.

While the TurboTax software itself is very easy and convenient to use in simple tax cases, I would not recommend using it if you have any abnormal tax situations that would require someone with special knowledge/experience. The extra "coverage" was a few hundred dollars, a huge loss of time, and a very frustrating experience. I may use TurboTax in the future for very simple filing, but will never pay for "experts" and will steer clear if I have anything other than the simplest of filings.

I was then told I had to do my taxes online. Ok… more of my time wasted. When I went to file, it cost me $180. The State filing fee increased a ton compared to the desktop fee. I called and complained because after paying $70 for the program then another $170, I felt they owed me a refund due to their lack of performance, especially when the desktop version said it worked. They denied my refund! Your product didn’t perform as advertised and you made me pay almost 4x (upgrade + online fees) the desktop purchase price. Shame on you. Scam artists. After I filed to Fed and CA state and I checked my mail and found they charged me $273 = $209 Turbo Tax Assisted + $65 Turbo Tax online state CA 2023 Prep. I called and wrote to them to protest the rip-off and told them I never asked for Assist as well as CA prep. I just wanted to pay $89+$40 {amount added after I finished the form that I resigned to accept} and $40 that they asked to CA e-file. Total $169. That is much more that $89 that I chose. But to no avail, they said that $273 is noted in the email after I filed the return.

I could communicate with them only one time when they rejected my request to return the overcharge, After that they cut me off from communicating. So this is my experience using it this year. If I had tried to contact their customer service to clarify, I either had to pay extra on top of the expensive software/product I had already purchased, or I would be talking to someone who was obviously Googling for answers and knew less than I did.

When I filed a claim/complaint with TurboTax, they reviewed it and told me it's my own fault. Of course they would never own up to their faulty products and refuse to compensate their customers. Using TurboTax was not only a waste of money, it ended up costing me more money, time, stress, and energy. The software required irrelevant information to be entered in order to progress. They have instituted multiply marketing windows throughout the system. The same exact data had to be enterer several times. I am done with Turbo Tax and will share my experience with everyone I know. They have really messed up what was a simple process.

I paid almost $200. to have an accurate tax transaction, not have doubt or worry now if my taxes were or were not accepted. And to have send a reject letter 3 days after a acceptance is now very good customer service on their part. Turbo tax needs to look into this error.

I’ve used Turbo Tax for years. This year I used the online version again. They charged me $59 for Federal and $59 for State. This absolutely shouldn’t be allowed as it’s false advertising. I have a simple return which should be free as it always has been. They allowed me to go all the way through until the end and then stated I owed $120 plus tax. Then they wanted an extra $40 to file and pay for through my return. After I checked online the CD (Federal with State) is being sold for $40 online from retailers like Walmart, Target, and Office Depot. I will no longer be using Turbo Tax. You don’t need to be a CPA to file a simple tax return and I will be taking my business to a company recommended on IRS website that isn’t Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax is taking advantage of people who can’t get to the store and it should be allowed.

TurboTax takes advantage of their customers with dark design patterns. I'm surprised the government isn't looking into them for their shady practices. At the onset of filing, they show a very complicated pricing schema and default selects the most expensive option. When you realized it in the middle of filling out so many forms and you wanted to switch, they made it extremely painful to switch by making you refill all the hard work you have put into it -- you have to redo every single thing. When you call customers support, the average time taken will be 2 hours as they bounce you around one department to another. If you accidentally paid more and you wanted a refund....forget about it. You will be spun around the entire company and all its departments. Very very frustrating.

In the past, I've always just used TurboTax and it was great! However, now that I have 1099 taxes as well as W2 that's where I was disappointed. This was my first year doing real estate, so had to claim my 1099 commissions. I didn't make a lot of money in real estate my first year. After business expenses I'd say I made about $19k. After completing my business expenses along with all my forms needed, turbo tax was saying I owed $9k in federal, with some return from state.... um.. I'm no CPA but seeing how I didn't make much 1099 income and with my W2 job, I withhold the most amount per paycheck for taxes for a bigger return each year. I ended up getting a second opinion from a CPA in my area and I only owed half what turbo tax was telling me with same return from state. Her fee was a little more than TurboTax. She was $300 more but so worth it. Very disappointed with TurboTax this year. Even if you are only W2, I highly suggest just getting a second opinion from a CPA in your area or even from freetaxusa.com.

TurboTax would not let me e-file (after I had already paid) due to a software glitch. The ability to e-file was one of the main reasons for using TurboTax in the first place! After spending all day working on my taxes via TurboTax, I was unable to e-file, so I called Customer support and was on the phone with them for another hour after which they said I would have to paper file. Then when I tried to paper file, I had to remove the direct payment/refund information (which had taken time to enter in the first place!) in order to paper file. And now I will have to spend another half day completing the paper filing process, taking to the post office, etc. I will not be using TurboTax again due to the nightmare of the experience.

From the community forum I found this has been a known issue for a while - the form was introduced in 2021. Many complaints are listed there, and some Intuit employees posted claiming it was fixed. It was only fixed for the online web product. I use the Windows Download product to keep my data off of anybody else's server to protect it from hacking. My product has been re-branded as "Classic" and the fix was not done for users like me. I had to file on paper and accept the refund delays. Using the software seemed easy enough and straightforward and the promise of accuracy and timely refunds. Well after my taxes were filed, I was estimated to be refunded 2/19/2024. That date came and went, I eventually received notice from the IRS that they were unable to process my refund due to needing further verification or due to inaccurate information.

This leads me to believe a mistake was made within the filing made on my behalf. I have went back and checked all of my statements and used other tax software to confirm the information provided to Turbotax was accurate. I will never again use Turbotax, I have never had an issue with tax returns, even when I've had to make payments to the IRS. For what I was charged to do my taxes was a rip off, especially since whatever they filed on my behalf has cause a major delay in me getting a refund, if I ever receive it.

I recently found out that I needed to resubmit my 2022 return. When tried to load the 2022 version of Turbo Tax on to my new laptop (I bought the Home & Business version from Costco), I discovered that you can only load it on to three devices, even though you can submit 12 returns (which is boldly displayed on the box). The disclaimer is only prominently displayed when you try to activate your code. Try to find it on the box, good luck. This means that you would only know this restriction after you buy the product and load it. Of course you cannot return it once the package is opened. While I disagree strongly with their policy of 3 devices, what is extremely annoying is that this was the same return being resubmitted, just a new laptop.

After the agent communicated with their "Specialist" (who also could not find the caveat on the box) back and forth for at least 15 min, it was decided that I must buy a new license to resubmit. Shame on Intuit for this and shame on intuit for putting their employees in an obviously uncomfortable position to defend something they really could not logically defend. I have used Turbo Tax since 2010. Not anymore and neither will anyone else I know once I've explained it to them. Doesn't seem like a good business decision or good customer service. I started out using the free program and understandably was moved to the Deluxe version, even though it was due to questions they asked guiding me to complete something I knew would not provide better benefits than the standard deduction. However what really has me angry is somewhere in the program they switched me to something called Online Deluxe which cost $129 for the Federal portion. I imagine one the many times they provide an option to up-charge it may have said Online Deluxe and since I was using the online program and I knew they had changed my free program to the Deluxe version, I felt that was the correct option and the cost had increased significantly from prior years, so I continued.

The next day I received an advertisement from them showing what the deluxe should have cost me and contacted them. It’s obvious I did not use the up-charged version however they gave me the prepared reply as noted in most of these complaints saying they are unable (actually they are able but just will not) to provide a refund for the error since you had to pay before actually being able to access your documents. I am highly disappointed and angry at how they are not supporting their customers and questionably has developed a way to trick elderly and all customers into paying for something they do not need. Beware! I think this issue should be reviewed by a governing agency because it starting to feel like a scam. Shame on you Intuit.

Turbotax has sunk to new lows. You can now pay extra for Live Assist but there are more computer glitches, but the agents are unable to resolve issues, and when you request a partial refund, you are told that you purchased Turbotax online so there can be no refunds for their computer glitches! My 2023 tax return was my most painful Turbotax experience in at least 5 years, and it was the most expensive. I experienced 2 programming glitches. The first glitch was in Schedule E. It kept looping and after consulting with Tier 2, The agent recommended that I delete it and re-enter the information. The next morning, after 1 hour, Tamani helped me to re-enter the information. Tamani offered a 20% discount in the $209 Live Assist fee only AFTER I requested it. I explained that my headache and my twitching eyes were no fun!

Then we discovered another glitch. The EDIT function in Rental Adjustment for the California tax return would not allow me to change the FL address to the CA address. Tamani connected me to Tier 2’s Kristie. It took Kristie 35 minutes to discover that the only way to change the address was to go to a different section on the left column of the webpage. After 1 hour 27 minutes, Kristie said she would connect me to a Tax Preparer. I explained to Kristie that resolving the 35-minute EDIT question cost me 35 minutes. She apologized. When I asked for a refund, Kristie told me that there was a 20% discount underway.

I explained to Kristie that the 20% discount was caused by the Schedule E glitch. I asked Kristie to summarize the problem with the 30-minute feature, she said that she would email it to me. I explained that I needed to be accurate and had to rely on her. After 10 minutes, the call disconnected. I called back to get to the Tax Preparer. It took the agent 3 attempts to get to a Live Preparer. I finally got to Jackie (who was knowledgeable and helpful). Just as we were about to file, I realized that my $3779 refund had been converted into MY OWING THE IRS $4000. Then Jackie and I discovered that in the deleting of the Schedule E, I had not included the expenses with the rented condo.

The additional 2.5 hours that I needed to resolve the Schedule E loop/glitch lead to the Rental Adjustment question that Tamani could not answer, the EDIT question that took Kristie 35 minutes to answer. That glitch cost me 2.5 hours, a headache, and twitching eyes. Something is wrong here. I have always had rental income properties. I paid the extra $119 for Live Assist yet this is the WORST headache-producing Turbotax experience that I have had in more than 5 years. I am paying more and getting an unprecedented headache.

My tax "expert" Don was unreliable and indifferent from day one. The first day he said he couldn't get into my end of the system while I was online with him so he was going to try on his end without me being on the phone. 3 and a half hours later he said it was working but it was now too late to get started and we set up an appointment for 7:00 pm the following night. I logged in to my account on my computer as well as my phone at 6:45 and waited. By 7:10 I sent him a message and waited. Then he sent me a message saying he tried to call and missed me and would try again at 7:30.

He called at 7:45 and said he had dialed the wrong area code and asked a couple of questions that were already in the information I had provided. Then he said since it was late, he would do the input of data in the system the following day without me and he set an appointment for 6:00 pm that next evening. I agreed begrudgingly mostly because I was already so frustrated and he was extremely slow to respond to ANY messages. I really wanted to be on the phone to be in the loop and know what was going on. The next evening, 6pm came and again I waited.

At 6:23 I messaged him that we were now 30 minutes behind schedule and I needed to wrap this tax thing up. I told him I was getting concerned with all of the delays and at 6:45 he sent me a message saying he needed a couple things from me and could not move any further. I had already sent him the info he needed and they were in with my docs. Was he even going to tell me any of this if I hadn't messaged him at 6:23?? Apparently not because he completely skipped the 6pm appointment without a call or text. I sent him another message and asked if he could call me so we could discuss what he needed over the phone rather than going back and forth in messages. He didn't respond.

The next day he sent me a message saying he would call me after his "next meeting". He sent another message asking more questions that he already had the answers to. At that point I was ready to call it quits altogether with him and this company and I started looking for better alternatives for my taxes. On the 27th I got a notification from TurboTax saying everything looked fine and was ready to file. I was literally so disgusted at this point that I just paid the ridiculous TurboTax fee and paid federal. I had sent him 2 blurbs from articles regarding tax breaks for seniors in South Carolina on retirement income and also asked him if he checked for any of those breaks....He said no and never responded to my article blurbs. He suddenly sends a message at 1:41pm on the 28th saying it's been cleared to file. I responded that I already paid, etc. the previous night.

Seriously, this has been a nightmare and to be honest, I wouldn't know if my taxes were done correctly or not. He was inadequate, nonresponsive, rude, aloof, and unprofessional. Then you have the audacity to charge me $500.00 for his lazy work ethic and MAYBE 45 minutes of time. Depending on how this all gets resolved, I will be posting Google, Yahoo and TurboTax reviews.

I have been filing with Turbo Tax for 7 years now, and I think this will be my last year before switching to HR Block. Each year I notice that they try to add new features all of which cost money. Part of the reason I started using them in the first place is because they were free for my situation. When you get to the part where you choose a package, it seems as though you're intentionally made to think you have no option but to pay for their service, but if you look in the fine print you'll see chose other options...

Anyhow, last year, and this year I had to pay 39$ because I had a 401K and wanted the max deduction. Everything was smooth, this year, until I got to the part where I select how I want my payout. I can have it early if I use their Credit Karma card, which is under the same parent company as Turbo Tax (Intuit), Upon choosing that selection I was faced with a two factor authentication to a phone number I no longer have, and was told to contact customer service, only to find out you MUST e-mail them your issue and wait for a response.

I waited over 4 hours and still nothing. Frustrated, I went back and chose direct deposit instead. Then they ask you to checkmark boxes for agreements, that are not automatically shown, you must open the agreement to read it. In the fine print you are signing saying that you'll pay them and additional $40 for tax preparation.... Now they know you won't want to pay the extra $40 so they try to put in in the fine print. One way or another you have to pay them the extra money or are forced into doing business with another one of their umbrella companies. Good Riddance to Turbo Tax!

If you’re not careful to scan to the bottom of each page (curser down because it is not seen), there is a $45.00 extra charge for Aduit Protection that you MUST check the box "Not wanted" or you get charged for it. However, after checking this box several times, we were charged for it anyway.

After finally reaching their product support, they stated that if you are getting a refund and not paying by credit card, you MUST accept the protection and the extra charge. NOWHERE does their product state this (even though the tech. support said it did, he could not find it anywhere) and you get hit for the $45.00 more than expected. They finally agreed to refund us the $45.00 but how many people using their product miss this? This is deceptive and bordering on fraud and theft. I've used TurboTax for years and always thought it was helpful if pricey. But this year has been abysmal. Their "experts" have no knowledge of tax preparation and admit to just googling answers. I can google questions, but I want the assurance of a tax professional to back up what I'm finding. Story: I had a bit of a complicated situation this year, so while trying to fill out the online version, I had an "expert" call me. It took 40 minutes for him to figure out what to do (which was a pretty simple deal) and was clearly unsure about the answer for any question I posed. I decided instead to go to a real tax service by me and got professional results. During that real visit, though, the advisor noticed a mistake in my 2020 and 2021 returns (which were my fault, although caused by poor software design). I went to TurboTax to amend the returns, was able to submit federal 2021 but had to mail in both state and 2020 federal.

One TurboTax agent confirmed that the rejection was due to mail-in requirements. I called back a few days later to ask what supporting documents I would need to submit along with the 1040-X and was told by the agent that all they do is just google my question. I ended up going back to the local advisor for the question. I then tried to contact TurboTax again just to get written clarification that the packet they generated would contain all the documents I needed to submit outside of supporting documents (W2s, etc.).

The first agent told me that I could not file 2021 federal amendments online and adamantly held to that despite the first agent say it was fine and the online software showing that it had been accepted. I had to go to a supervisor to get clarification that TurboTax was not lying about the status of my amendment. After 20 minutes, I was able to ask my original question about the completeness of the packet, which the supervisor just sent me back to the poorly laid out IRS website instructions...

For the amount of money TurboTax charges (and tries to upsell), I have never received trustworthy support when I needed it. I always end up spending significant amounts of time to receive answers that are no better than what I googled. But since this is the IRS and taxes, I don't trust my googling, which is the whole reason to pay TurboTax in the first place. I'm honestly not sure that they would support any audits as they claim rather than just saying that it's somehow my fault if things went wrong. I'd recommend going somewhere else unless you know for certain you're only filing with a W2.

This is true until the very end of the process where the screens are ambiguous until you input your payment method then you suddenly see what you were charged and how much. Specifically, I repeatedly declined any additional coverages. Until the very end states there is clearly an option to ONLY use the basic form of Turbo Tax. THEN on the page it shows the deluxe option and price breakdown. There is a button to add, continue, or go back.

Considering I did NOT add anything I clicked "continue". The subsequent page showed the cost for BASIC FILING at $39. Again, only options are to continue or go back. I submitted to continue. The next page showed only the option to select a payment method. I put in my card information under the impression that I would get a summary of charges prior to being charged as I still had NOTHING showing what I was about to pay for. Of course the next page showed I was charged $118 for the deluxe versions of state and federal. AT NO POINT did I add this or consent to be charged this amount.

Additionally, I still have not finished filing my taxes. I submitted a request for a refund and was DENIED because (direct quote from the email) "Turbo Tax Online is designed not to charge the customer until after they choose to file, so it not covered under the "Satisfaction Guarantee". Then WHY ARE MY TAXES NOT FILED AND I AM OUT $118! To add to ALL OF THIS I don't even have an income, so NO RETURN MONEY. The ONLY reason I had to file is because I cashed in savings bonds. SHAMEFUL SCAM. I hope to see them run into the ground and the leaders serve time. I am CERTAINLY not the only person this has happened to. This is not 2001. No one is new to the internet. This scam of a company.

As I began my search for a trustworthy tax filing service, I couldn't help but stumble upon Intuit TurboTax, a popular tax software provider. While it's widely recognized, I've discovered several alarming issues that I believe prospective users should be aware of before making their decision. To begin with, Intuit has been known to lobby politicians to prevent the creation of a free, government-run tax filing system in the United States. This is a stark contrast to the tax filing process in most other first-world countries, where citizens can file their taxes directly on government websites, without cost. It's clear that Intuit's primary concern is preserving its profits rather than providing a service that benefits the American public.

Furthermore, TurboTax advertises its "free" tax filing service, which, in reality, is anything but. The platform is designed with dark patterns, making it nearly impossible for the average American to navigate the system and file their taxes without eventually being pushed towards paid options. This misleading marketing tactic leaves users feeling cheated and frustrated. My personal experience with TurboTax was a disheartening one. After switching to a different tax filing service, I started receiving an additional $800 in tax refunds, despite my income remaining the same. This substantial difference raises concerns about the behind-the-scenes practices at Intuit and whether they have their customers' best interests at heart.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend Intuit TurboTax as a reliable or ethical tax filing service. Their lobbying efforts to block free government tax filing, misleading "free" filing advertisements, and questionable business practices have left me deeply disappointed. There are better alternatives available, and I urge anyone considering TurboTax to explore other options for a more transparent and trustworthy tax filing experience.

Last year they did my taxes for free. This year I have the same filing (2 Social Security, & 2 Retirements) and they want $89. All I wanted was copy last year's filing and update the values. For six weeks I worked with their "Experts" and could not find my financial companies (they were same as last year). I finally called their 800 number and found a person who showed me how to enter my data. I did all the work; they were incompetent. Then they want to be paid for all my hard work. Plus $59 for my state filing; Delaware offers a free online filing. I asked their "Expert" and person on the 800 number to define why my filing was not simple - no answer. I filed using pen & ink and USPS.

I have been using Turbo Tax since 1991 (yes I still have the floppy disks). Now I go to install it on a second computer and get the message that I am over the number of licenses. So you can only install it on one computer now? So ridiculous.

Opted for the Self Employed version which is the highest category since I have a business. The website is flawed and does not let you enter the basic information correctly. They constantly want you to upgrade the service into Live help. The voice assisted version which is the Self Enter version has voice help included but they made it harder to get to and when I was successful in getting someone on the phone, that person had no basic idea about doing self employment taxes. Turbotax is becoming more like a scam. I will be moving on with someone else to do the taxes. Completely waste of time.

Got the "live chat" support product only to have one of TurboTax's "experts" tell me COMPLETELY INCORRECT information, and have me make a bunch of changes to my forms only to then have issues filing, with me having to go back and correct everything wasting hours of my time between the call and all the corrections I had to make on my own. I called customer service asking for a refund of the "live support" product given their rep only did harm, and was told "no problem, we'll get that resolved," and to fill out a form and I'd get a refund.

I filled out the form as requested and a few hours later got an email that my request was denied, despite the agent I spoke with earlier telling me I'd get a refund. Called and waited to talk to someone else who wasn't able to help me but connected me to the "resolutions desk". Was met with complete hostility by this person who pretty much shrugged her shoulders and said TurboTax wasn't willing to do absolutely anything and that I would still have to pay the $200 for the completely incorrect information from one of their "experts" gave me. In what world is this acceptable?! Awful experience, awful service. Pretty much theft at this point, TurboTax, you should be ashamed.

I recently used TurboTax to file my taxes and had a terrible experience. Not only did my return get rejected by the IRS, but I also had to spend countless hours on the phone with their customer service representatives, who were unhelpful and unresponsive. I initially called TurboTax to ask a quick question and was not looking for Live assisted services. Unfortunately, the phone call took longer than expected, and I was directed to use the Live assisted option when I was checking out. At that time, I was not aware that Live is a non-refundable product.

When my return was rejected by the IRS, I contacted TurboTax to try and fix the issue but was unsuccessful. As a result, I had to go to an accountant and pay them to file my taxes. I have already filed with them and do not see the need to use TurboTax's services in the future. Despite explaining my situation and requesting a refund, TurboTax denied my refund request five times!!! Their customer service representatives were unhelpful and unresponsive, and sometimes really rude. My issue was thrown from one representative to the other, leaving me extremely frustrated and disappointed with the lack of resolution.

To me, it looks like a scam where TurboTax is taking my money without providing any value in return. I was not aware that Live is a non-refundable product, and I believe that I should be entitled to a refund given the circumstances. I would strongly advise against using TurboTax for your tax filing needs. Their customer service is terrible, their Live assisted product is a scam, and their refusal to provide refunds is unacceptable. Save yourself the time, frustration, and money and use a different tax filing service.

TurboTax is a crappy product. I have used it for many years but no longer. Typically, we generate refunds from the Federal government and have the fees taken out of the refund. Here is the latest breakdown of the fee structure:
    TurboTax Live Deluxe $89
    TurboTax State: Georgia $49

    Refund Processing Service Fee $39

Not only do they charge $39 for a "refund processing fee," they receive the refund directly from the IRS and bounce it something called the "Santa Barbara Tax Products Group" which has held on to the refund for over 2 weeks, no doubt playing the float and earning even more money off of my tax expertise and income. All I can say is nice! I am sure that Northwestern is proud to have a shyster like Sasan Goodarzi, CEO of Intuit, among their alumni. This is one customer who will no longer contribute to his $17m compensation package.

I paid $259 for Premium product plus one state. After filing, Intuit disabled my account and was unable to restore it. Thus, I was not getting the service I paid for: access to my records and filings. I now have no way to get a copy of the return that I filed. Warning to others - make sure you download whatever they filed. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company - they did not offer a refund or recover my return. Truly despicable behavior.
