I have filed with TurboTax for 3 years. Had no issues until this year. The software is buggy. Kept giving me errors that boxes were unchecked. But what one should really know is they hired a third party bank called TPG Santa Barbara to receive your refund BEFORE it direct deposits to your personal bank account. TPG gets paid first, then they send it to you. In my case, I elected direct deposit. When IRS released my refund, it went to TPG first, they held it for 2 days, took out the fees, and claimed they sent it back to IRS. IRS can’t verify this until after 21 days of the date the return was accepted. So I haven’t any clue were my refund is, but it’s definitely not in my bank account. This company is a scam. And if you try to contact the TPG Santa Barbara bank, good luck. You will get no live person, all prompts. Turbo tax customer representatives won’t help you either. Please stay away from turbo tax!

We're unhappy with the changes in TurboTax over the past couple of years. We've been using it for over a decade and have noticed that it's gotten more expensive and requires more work. This year, there were a lot of places where we had to check and manually input information - the program either couldn't import the forms or hadn't downloaded it from the attached accounts correctly or imported it from last year. We thought it would be easier and allow us to compare vs. previous years, but TurboTax has become less user-friendly and less useful. Bottom line: more expensive and more work. We will look for other programs next year.

I have used downloaded Turbotax products for filing S corp and 1040 returns for many years. In past years, if I tried to change an entry in a form and the entry was transferred from a previous entry on another form, a message would ask if I wanted to go the source form to change my entry. This year, in many instances, I have tried to change an entry on a form, no link to the source of the entry appears, and I just cannot make the change unless I spend significant time searching for the source of the entry or override the entry (and Turbotax will not let you e-file a return containing any overrides). This wasted a lot of my time searching for the source of the entry and was a significant decline in the quality of Turbotax Premier.
A most serious error in Turbotax Premier is that it effectively forces a senior to file Form 1040SR. Apparently, once the deduction for seniors is claimed on the 1040/1040SR information worksheet, Form 1040SR is automatically used. I have contacted a Turbotax rep by phone and they tell me the only way to avoid Form 1040SR would be to not claim the deduction for seniors---and they know of no plans to change this. Currently, neither the IRS or existing tax law requires a senior to file Form 1040SR to claim the deduction for seniors, only Turbotax.
I wonder what other filing options Turbotax has decided on my behalf without my consent. (Some of us object to the existence of Form 1040SR--If we have different forms, based on age, why not have different forms for other "select" groups---and see the advent of 1040SR as the start of a slippery slope.) I want Turbotax to fix its problem, let me file Form 1040 (as they advertised) or give me my money back.
Even worse, after I entered all my information to file Form 1040, my list of forms shows a Form 1040--not Form 1040SR. When I pull up the form on my computer screen, a Form 1040 appears. But when I go to the screen to print the form, it will only print Form 1040SR. (Form 1040SR does not even appear in the side bar list of forms on my screen) And a TurboTax representative told me that Form 1040SR is the form it would e-file for me. I only discovered this discrepancy between what I see on my screen and what I will file when I printed out "all forms required for filing" as a last step before I e-filed. I cancelled the e-file---and I think I need to fully scrutinize the paper copy of my return to find out if Turbotax has altered any other entries from what appears on my screen. I will probably snail mail my personal return (this option is increasingly not available for many business returns).
An additional, if relatively minor, problem I noted this year is the appearance of obvious errors and programming bugs. Many have been corrected in updates, and it is still early in the filing season, but I always try to file early and have run into an increase in these problems in 2020, compared to prior years. Again, I have used Turbotax for many years (since at least 2013) and would certainly like to continue with them in the future. I hope, truthfully more for my sake than theirs, that they figure out what caused their problems in 2020 and return to producing a quality product in 2021.

I have used Turbo Tax for years and it has been a breeze but this year, my husband and I decided to use the Visa Debit Card and it has been a mess. Per the IRS, the money was sent to the account provided to us through Turbo Tax and we still have not received our money. Turbo's website says they don't have any information and their customer service is not reachable. IRS can't do anything until after March 2. Never had this problem until we decided to use the Turbo Visa Debit Card. This is so crazy!! If I would have used my personal checking account, I would have received the funds 2 days early. Never again will we use this service. A HOT MESS!!!

I used the TurboTax home and business for several years and had no problem. Four weeks ago, I file taxes with two states, California and Wisconsin. When I noticed the error messages: saying some pages are not approved for filing, I called the help. Wasted an hour until she fixed it that I could continue filing my taxes. Make it short. I got my $6500 refunds from the federal, $1818 from California, and I was expecting $2967 from Wisconsin, but I only received $724.
Rechecking my taxes when I noticed the same error messages popping up. Called the help three different times wasted 5 hours on the phone screen sharing and letting them do whatever they want to fix the issue. They could not tell me what went wrong. They can’t figure it out. NO LUCK. I just hung up the phone before start saying what I think of them. I am short by $2200 from the state of Wisconsin because of the TURBOTAX MISS CALCULATION. And now, I have to pay a CPA to amend the Wisconsin return to get my money back.
I paid $149 for the program $39 for additional estate. Paid to file $25 to file state, and Lost $2200 and have to find and Pay the CPA who has time to review and file the amendment at this time of year. What’s happened to the TURBOTAX 100% Accuracy guarantee? From now on going back to H&R Block software or an independent accountant. ** the turbotax. This time the Shame on you. But if I use you again, it's Shame on me. Never again.

I used TurboTax for the first time this year. Liked the convenience of being able to do my taxes from home but I believe that they are using an outside company now. Supposedly a CPA reviewed my tax paperwork before it was submitted, but there was an error on my state taxes. I received a letter from the IRS to fix it, finally got a refund of less than TurboTax had determined. Also I called the IRS today about my federal return. My paperwork is in the error dept. They are going to fix my return before I get a refund. Don't know what my refund will be now. Not sure that I will use them again. Not sure that I will use them again next year.

USE TURBOTAX AT YOUR OWN RISK!4 I've been using TurboTax for many years (since 1995), and have had no problems. However, this year I find it very buggy and it has an error which I think might cause my return to be REJECTED. Start with the bugs: On a summary page, it says I had paid $808 in taxes from W2's, when in fact I had only paid $104. I have no idea where TurboTax got the 808 dollars from. I spent a lot of time going back through the questions and input to make sure I hadn't incorrectly entered anything. I hadn't. Unfortunately, TurboTax won't let you preview the actual IRS forms it is filling out until you pay for the program. In prior versions, you were allowed to preview the forms to see what was actually going in the forms, which was a great way to check for accuracy. Now you can't look at the forms until you pay for the program. At the end, TurboTax only entered $104, but it cost me time and aggravation to verify.
When I went through the review process at the end of filling everything in, the TurboTax summary said I was getting a different federal refund amount than the one which is constantly on the screen as you answer questions and input data. I HAVE LOST TOTAL CONFIDENCE THAT TURBOTAX IS CORRECTLY DOING MY TAX RETURNS!
And if that didn't shake my confidence enough, TurboTax will not allow me to enter all of the boxes on form 1099-B. I have a 1099-B from an insurance company which is a "noncovered security", which is designated by a checkmark in Box 5 of the form. HOWEVER, TURBOTAX DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY WAY TO DESIGNATE THAT BOX 5 IS CHECKED!!! The help advice it provides says if TurboTax doesn't provide the boxes for input, then don't worry about them!
During the review, it flags this error and puts up a "Capital Gain (Loss) Transaction Worksheet", which is populated from fields which TurboTax asks about when entering the 1099-B information. There is a checkbox in the worksheet to show that box 5 is checked on the 1099-B form, but you aren't allowed to change it to yes. Seems like it would be simpler for TurboTax to display all the boxes from the 1099-B during the question/input phase and just let you enter the ones that have data or are checked.
I've made 4 calls to TurboTax helpline about this issue. 3 of the support people didn't help, and after they fumbled around for a while sent me to an automated call which said I had to upgrade to Live tax advice (for another $90!) to resolve the problem, and when I said NO it just disconnected me. I'm going to fill out a paper return to see what the IRS instructions say about how to deal with a 1099-B. As other reviewers have said, the other problem is that TurboTax is getting very expensive, and unfortunately, the quality and flexibility has gone down. This 1099-B is the only complicated portion of my return, and TurboTax made me upgrade just to be able to (incompletely) input the 1099-B. I'm done with TurboTax...

Tax return held-up 8 weeks due to form error. Filed my taxes using TurboTax. When I tried to submit, Turbotax stopped me and said a specific form wasn't available until 1/29/2020. On 1/29/2020, I went in and attempted to submit my taxes again. This time it allowed me to submit, which lead me to believe the form was updated and available on the date they specified it would be.
Two days later, I received an email from TurboTax saying, your form is finally available. I contacted customer service and explained the situation. The representative told me, if it allowed me to submit, then the correct form was used, and the email notification of the updated form must have just been sent out late. Now more than three weeks later, I have to contact IRS and say, what is the hold up with my taxes? They said there was an error with a form and it could now take up to 8 weeks to correct the issue and get my refund. Initially told it would take up to 21 days. Thanks a lot for all of the headaches TurboTax. Will not be using this service in the future.

Next TurboTax audited my return and said I did not fix, this loop caused me to paper file. I have left messages twice with TurboTax help and received no TurboTax response. This year they changed it but the labels are significantly smaller and of course does not highlight the fact that it does not include the state download which costs $40 more. This year they introduced a Premier version that include the free state download. Intuit should have labeled their Deluxe version properly to avoid people needing to buy two products instead of one and alas, the second one at regular price. For my part, Intuit can forget about my money; I will not buy their tax product ever again.

I have loved the convenience and ease of doing my own taxes with TurboTax over the past 5+ years. However, I grew to realize that, with my complicated tax situation, rental properties and owning my own business, there were important things TurboTax was missing or failing to guide me on, which led to $10,000 of tax overpayment over the course of 2 years. I ended up going to an accountant who amended the returns and got me $10,000 of refunds. I think it is great for people with simple, straightforward tax situations. For anything remotely complicated, go to a human accountant and save yourself a lot of trouble later.

I've used TurboTax for about 10 years now. While filing for my 2019 taxes I realized there was an issue with the filing for 2018 (had filed in 3 states and just needed to make a small adjustment-nothing too complicated). In order to amend my taxes, according to Intuit, I need Microsoft. Inconvenient but no problem. I partitioned the mac to download the Microsoft application.
Once I logged in (to my same account, that I had already paid for additional services on), I am told I need to pay an extra amount to amend for each of the states. This seemed like a mistake and I call customer support to see if they could waive this erroneous fee. I tried for an hour to talk to a person, but the system is designed to make you pay $30 just to talk to a person. Ended up paying the extra $40 just to fix my 2018 taxes but will NEVER do business with Intuit again.

I've used Turbotax for years. This year had major issues. Entered income and after several entries of 1099 r statements, the tax refund went from about $4000 to 325,000 OWED (more than my taxable income). Reviewed my income and all was right, so deleted the latest income that may have caused the issue (non-taxable 401K distribution to an IRA (g was checked). When re-entered, refund changed from owed to 3.2+million in a refund. How crazy it that!!!
Called customer support, which is totally useless as after a major hold, the only thing they offered was a recording to check online help files. REALLY? This is a glitch in THEIR software. Deleted entry again. Closed the file completely without saving. Re-opened the file and re-entered the information and refund came out to about 4K (about what I expected but now I am very wary of anything being calculated by this program!).
Filed my return (late February) and then went into the program again to print some files. Was told to update and the files were CRITICAL. Too late for me and why can't this company get their act together regarding software updates BEFORE people file. Very dissatisfied with this year's program and no way to complain to the company directly.

I've used TurboTax Freedom Edition for over 4 yrs. I use it for myself personally and I use it to help the priests and religious file their taxes. The 1st year I used it, it was a breeze. No problems filing for anyone (5 filers total). The 2nd year I used it, (5 filers total) the TurboTax program had a glitch in the calculation of the priests' housing allowance. It took several hours of being punted from one "expert" to another before they were able to see where the calculation problem was and help me to fix it. But it was fixed. The 3rd year I used it, no problem what-so-ever (5 filers total).
This year (4 filers total) I am very unhappy with TurboTax. 1. I was hit with a HUGE increase in fees because it required the use of certain Forms (which have been used the past several years -- these are not new or fancy forms, they are basic forms that everyone uses). There was no disclosure that fees were being increased for no reason. 2. Their program (again) had a glitch in the system. It was doubling the housing allowance for the priests. I finally figured out where the problem was (which is almost impossible because you can't see in the program where they are pulling the numbers for the calculations). 3. I had asked twice for customer support -- no one ever called me and they closed the cases without a single person speaking to me. That was really upsetting, especially since I've paid a lot of money so far. 4. You can't leave a review anywhere on their website so that they can see there was a problem.

I filed my tax by using CD/Download 10 days ago, and yesterday I received my returns. I found out that my federal return was deducted $61.23 by TurboTax, because I chose using my refund to pay for the E-filing fee! This is ridiculous to me, because when I went through all the steps to the end, it only showed that if I would like to choose e-filing my state tax, there will be $19.99 charge. And then I saw there were two options, one was for paying with credit/debit card, and the other one was for direct deducting from the returns. When I clicked on the credit card option, the price jumped up to $24.99! So I was like: Oh, it must be cheaper if I choose direct deducting from the returns then. And then I picked the second option! I didn't see the price changed to $61.23! So I thought it should be $19.99 just like what it said at the first place!
However, when I got my returns, I paid $61.23 for E-filing! I went back and double checked with my filings. On the top of my copied filing it said that I would be paying $59.98 for the E-filing because I chose direct deducting from my returns! I mean I couldn't accept this explanation. Why don't you show the final price in the software when I filed and submitted my filings? You listed a price at the first place, and waited until I picked the option and submitted it, and you changed the price! I mean I have used Turbotax for many years and chosen E-filings for my tax for many years. I never had this issue before (now I think it is because I used CC to pay the fee), I trusted you so much, and now you are being sneaky and cheating on me!
I called the customer service, they told me that there was line that said there will be additional $39.99 charges! You were lying! I went back and checked I didn't see it! I googled online see if other people had the same issue. Not surprisingly, I am not the only one. Some people did a screenshot for the payment options. I saw TurboTax put a small box line that says" Don't worry about pulling out your wallet. We'll simply deduct the $39,99 fee from your federal refund and send the balance to your bank account"! Come on!
First of all, this is not simple! Second of all, even if you does list $39.99 fee there, it doesn't mention this is an Additional! Extra Cost! I think 90% of people who read this will think the $39.99 already includes the $19.99 E-filing fee! How could we imagine that it is $19.99+$39.99+tax??? Don't tell me that you didn't try to be sneaky and stealing from your customers! I am so disappointed with TurboTax now! There are so many tax products in the market and I don't know why I kept using TurboTax!

It charged 70 as stated, and apparently it cost 40 to file state taxes when it originally stated it would be free with federal. I couldn't opt out of doing my state taxes, and didn't give me an approval on the additional 40 dollars, just put it as a charge.
The part that crosses the line for me, is when I opted to pay with my tax return, which has NEVER charged me before. This time, without any say or word about it costing, it charged 40 dollars and DIDN'T LET ME KNOW ABOUT THIS ADDITIONAL 40 until it was already filed. It DID NOT give me any information about this transaction until it was already done. I have never had to pay this much to use this service in the 6 years I have, but now I will go elsewhere, even though I know elsewhere it would be about the same. I found this service to have the smallest amount a fees put on me as possible. I wish I could get some of this money back, but it's my taxes it's coming out of. It is now the 17th and still nothing. I would not recommend turbo tax to anyone filing taxes unless you wanna get the runaround. You ask them a question and they don't know the answer. You're a tax company for hell sake. How do you not know the answer to a tax question.

1-Don't use Turbo Tax if you intend to file for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE). Their system has lots of glitches if you try to use this for FEIE. I would not recommend it. The system kept telling me I hadn't started the section even though I had fully completed it. It also repeatedly entered incorrect information on my Form 2555 for the FEIE. I had to contact more than 6 representatives to deal with one data entry point. They each gave contradictory responses of what they could see on the form (which you can't see until you pay them.) Turbo Tax also doesn't seem to know how to account for the FEIE Bona fide resident test.
2-I also dont recommend using Turbo Tax if you sell a business (e.g., rental) property. It does not guide you through the options for calculating cost (Fair Market Value vs adjusted cost basis.) I had to look it up with an accountant on the IRS form 4797 and instructions. This nearly cost me more than $5,000 because Turbo Tax doesn't give you the correct questions.
Lastly, I'm not sure Turbo Tax correctly calculates Self Employment situations. Last year, when I used Turbo Tax, it calculated incorrectly my Self Employment tax owed, and after submission, I was notified by the IRS. Turbo Tax is probably only a good idea if you have basic wages from a salary reported on a W2. I wouldn't use them for anything else. I'm switching to a another method.

I called Visa and they insisted to send me another and I still have yet to receive the card. They disabled the virtual card when sending a new one. Now my refund is sitting there and I have no access to it. I don't know what to do now. This is horrible. You can't talk to Turbo tax about the account and the card. People are all outsourced reading from a script. I will never again use this card. Thinking about switching to another software altogether.

Turbo Tax has been my go-to, but since I moved I realized the intuitiveness is only based on previous tax years (in a different State). I had a tax bill of of over $5000 when in reality it was $20, (because turbo tax did not use the common State deductions (but asked about the license registration fees). The addition was incorrect, and the taxable amount of Social Security did not make sense. My return looked like a child did it. Unfortunately, I sent it without reviewing it (stupid, I know). I sent amended returns the next day - overnight mail. Turbo Tax refuses to refund the fee.

I used to love filing with this company. However, the last few years have been so frustrating. I've stayed with them because they have my data but next year I'm changing. Why? 1. You CAN'T file for free. Very few people qualify for this. 2. After you have already input tons of info/spent time you are FORCED TO UPGRADE and pay $. 3. Can't E-File unless you do PREMIUM. It ends up being so expensive and frustrating. I will be giving H&R Block my business next year.

I had two major problems with Turbo Tax this year. The first concerns form 2210 which is used to calculate an underpayment penalty. The required input from Turbo Tax to fill out this form was difficult to understand. It kept taking me directly to this tax form with requests like - fill out line 10B, fill out line 15. I had no idea what I was doing. Since I put in so much time and effort doing my taxes this year, I just deleted this form and had turbo Tax allocate my earnings and withholding evenly through out the year (and bite the bullet) and just pay a tax penalty despite over withholding through out the year.
The second issue was I had long tern capital gain. Since my brokerage account did not list the cost basis, or the year acquired the stock when I automatically uploaded the form, I added the purchase date (which was more that 10 years prior to the sales date.) For some strange reason, Turbo Tax assume that this was a short term capital Gain. I had to do in a manually over ride this and change this to a long term capital gain. Again, I am disappointed with my experience with Turbo Tax this year.

Out of $1215 I will receive $934 and it will not be within 21 days but 6 wks. I could have gone to my local bank and filed for free and mailed the return had I known it would take 4-6 wks anyway. I used Turbotax free online to do my taxes last year- and everything went great. My cost was zero as promised. I looked forward to using it again this year and doing my taxes for free. My financial situation was unchanged from 2018 to 2019. When I got to the end of the return process with Turbotax THIS year however, the program said I was REQUIRED to upgrade to Turbotax paid version for $40 to continue. Couldn't complete my returns unless I paid. I was supposed to get back over $900, so I relented and foolishly upgraded. The next thing I saw was Turbotax saying "put your wallet away, we'll take our fee (singular- one fee) directly out of your federal return). I didn't see the harm, safer than entering my credit card info online- so I agreed.
As I'm continuing to check out, this is when I discover their next lie. They are charging me an EXTRA $40 for my state return! I only agreed to pay $40. Now my fee has doubled. The next thing I learn is they are charging me A THIRD $40 fee to take the first $80 out of my federal return!! No previous mention of this ridiculous fee! Of course I would have paid by credit card! And no way to go back and change it. This was all done intentionally. They sought out to deceive me and get $120 from me, when it was supposed to be zero, and it worked. I am a poor person. There was no legitimate reason that I should have had to pay the first $40, and they took an additional $80 on top of it. I will never use Turbotax again. They are liars who cheat poor people out of their hard-earned money. Why can't they make money honestly instead of taking advantage of people who are already struggling and working two jobs to make ends meet?

But it has been almost 2 weeks and the $99 charge that was held AFTER I returned the truck has not dropped off. When calling customer service, they tell me it can take until APRIL 7TH, for the pending transaction to finally post. My return will be in before the other transaction posted. This has put my in a huge bind as I am left with nothing after my move. The rep was very rude. I rather put my funds on a Walmart card before dealing with these people again. I could not add some of the rebates that I qualified for unless I upgraded to the deluxe version. It would not let me get the refund for the 1098t form for my college expenses. Once I upgraded, I found the wording for bundling the State and Federal taxes confusing - it made it sound like it was a part of the 40$ deal but it was actually an extra 40$. Then when I went to pay for the service, I noticed an extra 40$ on top of the 80$ from the "bundling" fee. This extra charge was for having them take payment for using their site out of my refund....
I went back in and paid directly with my credit card to get rid of one of the extra 40$ charges. They did not say clearly enough to me as a consumer, after viewing their website, that the state would be the same price as the federal.. The pricing should have been explicitly listed as 80$ for Federal and State filing and 40$ to direct deposit. I thought this was very underhanded and sneaky because I only realized the actual price until I was over an hour into the process and about to check out.

Please do not use this product, I do not want you do go through the headache I have endured. Please learn from my lesson and do not make the same mistake. They charged me $80 because they said one of the forms I needed to file required a higher package. I upgraded. Then they were going to charge me an additional $40 to take the deduction out of my refund. I decided to select "pay with card" instead.
Then, before I even filed my taxes, it processed the payment to my card. They took my money before ever completing the service. When I tried to file, it would not allow me to file electronically, and said I needed to mail in my tax return. I have a simple tax return, it has been the same for years, and I have never encountered this. I went over to H&R Block and filed electronically in 10 minutes without any problems! And, they didn't charge me anything to do so! I called TurboTax customer service and the representative said their policy states it is nonrefundable. I never used the service, it should be refundable. She said, "No but I can get you to a manager". I never suggested to speak to a manager.
For an associate to pass me off to a manager is terrible service. Then the hold time said it was 35 minutes before I would even get a manager. I don't know if I will get my money back. I most likely have to dispute with my bank and report this to the better business Better Business Bureau. I have never encountered such difficulty filing taxes before. Used TurboTax to submit my federal and state returns. I had nothing but problems submitting my return. The fist problem was that turbotax did not have a form associated with a 1099 available from the IRS so I could not e-file my return. I had to delete the 1099 from my tax return. Second, I contacted a support specialist who helped me get my returns filed. It took 40 minute or more for her to help me. Third, once a person finishes their return, they must make a purchase before they can review their return. In other words, I could not print out my state or federal return until I made a purchase.
Fourth, I tried to contact customer support by calling two numbers, one was 800-624-9066 and the second was 800 446 8848. Neither of which allowed me to talk to a specialist. It's a computer system that is totally worthless. I finally got a hold of a live person who told me I was not entitled to a refund. I have been using Turbo Tax free online tax filing services for years. However, this year I have had major problems and they charged my card for tax preparation when I didn't even file with them. I have various retirement accounts with my previous job and current one, and this year I was able to receive a $21 credit. Turbo Tax's website stated that I needed to pay for the upgraded services of filing a 1044 form instead of my regular, free, 1040 form because of this. The charge for their upgraded services was $80 ($40 for federal and $40 for state).
I was near the end and had already put in my card info and read through the disclosure statements that are shown to you when you are putting in your final information. However, it just seemed crazy to me to have to pay $80 for a $21 credit that I get to receive this year. It also seemed odd about this so called "new form" I needed to now file. So, before completing services I searched elsewhere and found another online free tax service that filled my taxes, using the same W-2 info I gave Turbo Tax, for free. After filing with another tax service I went back to Turbo Tax to erase my info and sign out of my session when I realized they charged my card! I called to explain the situation and was told that online services are non-refundable because it's for the preparation and not filling of taxes.
However, my argument is that nothing was different than previous years of me filing for free AND you technically did not complete your preparation of tax paperwork if I never filed and looked over all of the final documents. Also, this non-refund policy was never stated in the disclosure documents that a customer has to read through at the end. They stated that it's on their website but if you're not stating it in the disclosure documents that we have to e-sign and read through before even finishing putting in all payment info and filing I just believe that's unethical business practices and the main reason why you have a class action lawsuit now. I'm letting my bank's claim department handle the situation for me, however, I wanted to warn anyone looking for "free" tax services to look elsewhere.

I ended up having to pay $180 this year, I also chose to get the debit card so that I could get part of my refund the same day. I was really needing that money!! So after sucking it up and paying the $180 I closed my computer and waited on my $250 that was to be deposited and an email sent to me with a temporary card number to use online until my regular card came in the mail. An hour went by and ding... you got mail... the email stated that the money was in the account, I was to click the link to get my funds. Well that’s when my day got bad.
The link went to GreenDot's special website just for TurboTax users with a big red memo stating that they were sorry they could not process at this time and I would need to wait 5-10 days for my card to come in the mail! 5-10DAYS!! Are you kidding me!! I could have done the paper forms and sent them in and gotten my whole refund in 10 days!! WTC did I pay for? I called the only help number for the special GreenDot card and after 4 / 45 min long holding episodes I finally spoke to someone to say they were sorry because their system was down and they could not issue temporary numbers. I have the routing number and account numbers but that is worthless with an online bank! So after barely making it home from work on gas fumes I have decided to ALWAYS read the bad reviews on a company before I invest my time or money.
After my dealings today I have learned from several community pages that this isn’t new and there were a ton of people from two years back until now that this same thing happened to and people who say even when the IRS says they deposited the money on a certain day in the GreenDot/TurboTax backing account the company says they don’t have the refund yet. So I wholeheartedly believe I was SCAMMED and they need to be SHUT DOWN!!

This company charged me $120 although I chose to file for free. They superimposed upgrades without my consent. Furthermore, after being unable to use my card online as promised, they decided to cancel my current card and resend me another card, as if that would help in any way. Customer support and technical support are unable to help with any issue at all. Their advertisements are FALSE! I can not stress that enough. Currently, there's a class action lawsuit for false advertising and swindling people out of money. The program is set up to automatically charge you, even if you opt for the free filing option. There's no way around this. My advice, go to an accredited company. It's worth the cost for peace of mind. Previously I used H&R block for 14 years, and never once had any issues or even needed customer support. From now on I'm sticking to the tried and true.

I went to turbotax.com and filed my taxes as I have before. I have nothing complicated on my return, no special forms or deductions and make less than $20,000 per year. I spend an hour going through and adding everything, then at the very end Turbo Tax says I have a "schedule C" form that doesn't qualify for the free file. I looked at the requirements for schedule C and I do NOT qualify for it but there is no option to speak with anyone at Turbo Tax without paying money and there is no option to fix the issue in the help section. They charge $40 for the upgraded version to file but if you pay it out of your tax return they charge ANOTHER $40, doubling their already ridiculous fee.
A friend of mine had the exact same thing happen to him so I know it was not an isolated incident. Then I come to find out there is a commercial version (turbotax.com) and there is a truly free IRS sponsored version (https://freefile.intuit.com/). So I went to the truly free version and filed everything without issue or payment. It is my experience that the Turbo Tax company has succumbed to greed and deception by misleading consumers and price gouging and I don't want anyone else to fall for their scheme.

Once I finish my Federal return on TurboTax, I file my State return on the State website because it is free and I get my refund in three or four days. This year, TurboTax charged me for BOTH Federal and State returns and transmitted my State return without my authorization. I had already filed with the State and gotten my refund, so essentially I have filed with them twice. However, I am absolutely horrified about the COUNTLESS errors in the program. Although some errors are minor, other are extremely major. Even worse, when these errors are reported to the Developers, they refuse to fix them. Even after repeatedly pleas and showing them proof of what is wrong, in most cases the errors go unfixed. Although I don't have first-hand knowledge of other do-it-yourself tax programs, I would strongly recommend to NOT use TurboTax to prepare your tax returns.

After a lengthy manual process, I was unable to submit my taxes without paying a premium fee because of the 'complexity' of my taxes. I have the most basic taxes, just a W-2, no real estate, loans, etc. This product is designed to manipulate their customers. They require a large effort by a customer so when it comes time to submit and you have to pay $100 for "complexities" you are too exhausted to look elsewhere. This is a fair warning to EXPECT to pay $40 min, likely more for any taxes submitted through Turbo Tax. An honest product would be upfront with their service and cost. They realize they are many times to price of the value they deliver. They are pure scammers.

I have been using this card since tax time last year and it has been a relatively good prepaid card. I have my paycheck done with the direct deposit and use it like your normal debit card that you use through your bank. So overall it's great. The biggest and only issue that I have had, is if you purchase something from a store, and need to return it for a refund, you will be waiting a long time. No matter what particular store, it doesn't seem to matter. Which leaves it to fall on this card/Bank that makes the process so lengthy. When purchasing an item it doesn't take no time that money comes straight out right then, trying to get a refund for some reason takes forever which I still do not understand the reason behind that but it is what it is.
Which also makes it very difficult on someone who is waiting for their money to go back on the card and for some reason when purchasing and item, it doesn't take no time for that money to come straight out right then, but trying to get a refund for some reason, takes forever, which I still do not understand the reason behind that, but it is what it is. Which also makes it very difficult on someone who is waiting for their money to go back on the card, to purchase what they need, for some reason takes 7 to 8 business days. And that's the quickest that I've seen it happen.

Upfront, it said the software was free, but I ended up having to pay a 100 dollars to file. And they want another 100 just to make the software work as intended. And I've lost money for filing late. This is simply a company whose only purpose is to wring you out in the name of "convenience". Just go see someone in person to do your taxes and pay the 100 dollars. It'll get done right.

In 2019 I had a problem with my 2015 tax return which I did through TurboTax. I purchased federal and 3 state returns, filled out everything online and e-filed through them as well. Yet there was a small mistake on one of my state returns, which could have been easily caught by TurboTax (it wasn't some obscure rule or circumstance it was the calculation of OSC, which is always done when filing in multiple states). The mistake was caught by the Commonwealth of Virginia and I had to pay owed tax plus interest. I submitted a claim through Intuit's 100% accuracy guarantee and they basically told me that the software performed as designed. They just did not design it to check for the types of mistakes that was made on my return. Their claim leads you to believe that your return's accuracy is guaranteed, while in reality they only guarantee that the software will work the way they designed it, which could be a very very bad (or even wrong) design...

I have attempted to contact Intuit to report an incorrect calculation in their online tax software. If you report income from a 1099-R form with a number in Box 5 (Recovered this year) the software incorrectly deducts this amount from Box 2a (Taxable Amount). This causes your taxable income to be underreported. I now need to hand complete a 1040X to correct the error in their software.

I had been using TurboTax for 4 years. The last 2 years have been nothing short of frustrating when it came time for my refund. For 1.5 months, I have been attempting to get my return. There is no one to contact at Intuit, just a "community board" to get answers to your questions. Links sent to me to contact a specialist or a tax expert (which I paid extra for) have lead to nowhere. My return went to a routing number and account that is not mine. This number was printed on my final return which I did not have the opportunity to view before finalizing.
The routing number is linked to a JP Morgan Chase number. I called Chase corporate number and visited Chase bank. The routing number is their number but the account does not exist. The IRS website states that the return was deposited on 4/10/19. Also, my state tax return was deposited to this fake account on 5/8/19. Additionally, taxes due to my previous state were to be paid from my credit card but they were not which caused me to have to pay late fees. To date this is still not resolved.

Advertised as free, and NOT free at all. They are a large corporation with a huge team of lawyers, so naturally they can operate in any way they choose, lying, cheating, falsely representing their products, etc. with no accountability whatsoever. Of course they aren't accredited by the BBB - their entire business is based on a fraudulent misrepresentation of their product. America being a Corporatocracy is ruled by the corporations - we have no leaders only sellouts who belong to corporate lobbies.
The best part is that the federal government gave TurboTax money (a grant) to provide a free tax service to people! So Turbotax collected money from the gov to provide a free service, and then they didn't provide the service they were paid to provide, and then they get to collect money from the people they screwed over by leading them to believe the service is free.

I have a simple tax return and charged in name of complicated processing from Intuit. I found tax return $ 1432.00 but get back $132.00 only and have to pay $ 144.97 by force to Intuit. They take money from my account directly even if not receive the refund from IRS yet. Be careful this is one-way program and find charged fee at the end after processing by yourself. There is a HUGE lawsuit going on with several companies for REMOVING the free service to then force customers to pay for their service. Like others, I contacted TurboTax's customer service where I was told repeatedly they do not issue refunds. If you find yourself in this situation, do not give up. When I called customer service, the representative I spoke to flat out lied and said that TurboTax doesn't advertise this program on their website because it isn't an Intuit product (it is), and that I wasn't eligible for it anyway (I am).
She was extremely rude to me and basically told me that I was just out of luck and no way will TurboTax refund my money. I knew TurboTax was a bunch of thieves but in a last minute scramble I went down the rabbit hole. First, I was unable to remove the product so that I could file free federal. Then in order to process my student loan interest I was told I must upgrade in order for the TurboTax wizards to do more math. So now I'm looking at $60 instead of $40. After that I opted to pay TurboTax the $60 to process my return from my return. Apparently there is a fee of $40 that I either missed or just skipped... or it wasn't there. So my $264 return was no only $146. Great.
Out of curiosity I called and spoke with support and this is how it was explained. When you opt to pay TurboTax from your return, they consider that a "loan" since you do not have the amount upfront. So all in all I paid $40 for a $60 loan. I'm not a mathematician or a CPA but that seems a bit like highway robbery if you ask me. I will never use TurboTax or their "free" services again. I understand a company needs to pay the bills, but TurboTax is being added to the list of companies that will no longer take a single one of my pennies ever again! I finished my taxes and it asked me for a prepaid or installation key and it would not work when entered it.
I contacted customer support and waited 45 minutes for them to tell me they could not help, refund, or give me a key to cover the 39.99 where I spent 69.99 for the hard copy of the disk. Asked to speak to a supervisor to help and they said they would call me back in 2-3 minutes waiting for "Madeeha". Waited half an hour and no one called or contacted me. TurboTax does not tell you this fact at the outset of their program (when you declare that you are a non-resident) and they are more than happy to take your money for using their program and have you print out your return and pay for postage for a tax return not even required by CRA. In the beginning of April, I received an email from TurboTax stating it was time for them to withdraw the $167 fee from my checking account since I hadn't received a return for them to draw from as agreed. I had always filed these deductions for free and didn't pay additional fees until this year. After having both returns rejected, I went to the Federal government's website and found another tax preparation platform, filed, and ended up owing less in Federal Taxes. The whole thing was totally free. I called Turbotax (which has the company phone number buried on its website). I was shocked to find out that the online customer support that you pay for is access to the phone number and other customers complaining about Turbotax and giving each other bad advice.
So I get someone on the phone after holding for a few minutes and she tells me that TurboTax won't refund my money because I used their service to get rejected. I ask to speak to someone else and she tells me there is no one else because she is the supervisor. This year I paid $164.98 for some enhanced features which had to be put on a card before the return would be finalized. After I filed electronically I received an email advising that my fed and state returns were REJECTED. The reason? According to TurboTax, my 2017 Adjusted Gross Income reported didn't match the AGI on my '17 return. Well, I was literally holding a copy of my 2017 TurboTax return and the AGI was EXACTLY as reported.
To make a long story short, there was no one to ask about this. The rejection was not valid. The only option was to print out a copy of my 1040 and mail it in myself. I should note that the 1040 that I got to print out indicates that it was self prepared. I should also note that this was a very simple tax return. I get that errors can occur, however; in this case the amount reported was correct and there was no way I could speak with an actual person to discover what could possibly have gone wrong. Then at the end it charged me for federal - even though it claims it’s free. Well I end up being audited. They can’t tell me why? So that’s a fight and a half. 2018 taxes come around and I tell my husband we are absolutely not using TurboTax. That’s probably half the reason we got audited. Yep still no direct reason why! But I wasn’t home so he does anyways. No self employment this year but here I get my bill - cause who would have think it.
We still get 0 taxes back because we’re being audited – sooooo - 189$ for 39.99 for state, 59.99 for max benefit AND 89.99 self employment tax! So he calls and they say, “No we don’t understand why that’s on there BUT had we gotten taxes back and not paid attention you sure would have taken it!” Don’t fret though, they’ll remove it - but they didn’t - so it comes through again and he calls again. It says it’s been removed. Well 189.99 came out of my account today? So I mean. They do what they want. They’re absolute scam artists.

This is not only unethical, I felt I was talking to correctional officers, instead of customer service reps. They would all talk to me calling me, Sir, and not my name.
This business has enough complaints and they all have to do with not caring about their customers and charging them more than agreed. How can it possibly be that one rep told me to call back for a refund and even explained to me in details how it worked and the other one was making me feel guilty I did not file through the Uber app. Bottom line, it's been 3 hours and yet no one from TurboTax has contacted me, I emailed them yesterday and never got a reply. This year something was wrong with our account - it kept signing us in for the TurboTax Free filing (which we have never done) which prevented us from filing (after the system determined we did not qualify there was no option to select any other package). Trying to call was a joke. The last time we called was at 8:00 pm and we left our number for a callback within an hour. TurboTax called our home number at 1:30 am!!! Over 5 hours later and in the middle of the night when everyone was sleeping. Completely unacceptable. We were forced to create a new account in order to file our taxes, which took triple the amount of time because we had to input all data again. I spent over an hour today trying to contact TurboTax again regarding this issue and came up empty. An easy way to file your own taxes but if you have problems watch out - customer support is nonexistent.

You must either file both federal and state taxes electronically or by mail. You cannot file one by mail and the other electronically. This needs to be rectified. You should have the ability to file your returns however you like. They also suggest in the literature that you send your check in with your SSN written on the front. How many people will see this check? It will have your name, address, signature, banking information, and now your SSN. If you suddenly get a message from the IRS that your check bounced, you will now know why.

Today is 4/15/2019. I did not file 2017 Tax and was trying to finish that up before filing my 2018 Tax. It said I had to download TurboTax 2017, but before I could do that, I would have to pay for an upgrade. I tried for hours, because I was trying to finish both 2017 and 2018 before midnight! I finally got to a window which allowed me to pay for an upgrade that cost me $119.
After paying, I still could not download TurboTax 2017. Turns out I paid for an upgrade for TurboTax 2018. I immediately asked for a refund, so I could pay for TurboTax 2017, but Customer Service tells me they cannot give me a refund. I tell her I paid for 2018 by mistake, but she said she cannot give me a refund, and I would have to pay again for 2017 before I can get my 2017 info. What a RIP OFF! They make navigating through their program so complicated, it’s very easy to accidentally pay for something you don’t want! Even if you call immediately to rectify the mistake, they will not refund you!!! SCAM!!!

They claim it is free, it only is if you have a simple W-2 situation, the moment you add a 1099 - Misc you must upgrade if you wish to continue. Constantly they want you to upgrade, and take more money from you. I just logged out and refuse to be ripped off by them. They wanted 119.00 because I had one 1099! Total insanity. Do NOT waste your money on TurboTax! I then went to just file an extension, and finding out how to do that is obviously not an option once you started a return. Bad experience had to call 4 times...3 of them right at the end. Worst tax software I have used. TurboTax said expats could efile from their own country... Didn't tell me I needed a US credit card. Also that the US credit card need a US address. Support made me go back into TurboTax and change my mail address to that of my US credit card. There is no provision for expats to use a credit card from the country they are filing from! After you’re done you then have to go back into your my info and change it to your real mail address!!! At the very end would not accept my advance audit option and I needed to go back and change my mail address once again to that of the credit card and change it back after it accepted advance audit/identity protection.
Lastly spent a hour on the phone with a support rep who didn’t have a clue about the software and had to call a supervisor into the picture to tell me to put a zero in a field in Form 4262 as it would not let move on to the next step until something was entered. I later found out the correct formula by googling it. Worst Tax software experience ever. I paid 140 dollars for it. A later call to another CSR who told me she let people file for free because of the bugs in the credit card system. There are so many bugs in this software. It should never have been released. Those who have to work thru the bugs should get the software for free for helping to test it!!!

I have used TurboTax for several years, but this will be the last. Each year it gets more difficult to navigate through all their added charges. They put the same add-ons in front of you several times but switch the button location. So the first time you click "no" that button might be on the left but the next time it shows up, the "no" button is on the right. When you're trying to quickly click through their multiple upsell screens for the umpteenth time, it is very easy to accidentally order something you don't want and didn't use, which happened to my partner. And TurboTax won't refund you once you're charged! How is that legal?
Class action lawsuit, anyone? And the state return add-on is highway robbery. I never filed my state return through them because filing online in my state is free, but you need information from certain lines in your federal return to file. This year, TurboTax make it nearly impossible to get the copy of my federal return after I filed it, which made it impossible to file my state taxes on my own. Intentional?

I was not given an option to opt out of the state filing and was instructed to input my payment information for the federal tax return filing, and wouldn't you know, I was charge the amount of the federal and state filing. I immediately stopped proceeding with the filing process and contacted customer service stating that I was charged for both federal and state and did not want both. I also stated that I had not completed the filing process.
Regardless they stated that they could not refund me since they had prepared the state return, this completely goes against their stated policies. I am beyond frustrated and do not see how this can be legal in any way. I never clicked or agreed on any statements that I was paying for both federal and state returns. Completely fraudulent. My complaint has to do with filing a Form K-1. I have done this for several years and never ran into this problem. My LLC has both "business" and "rental" income, boxes 1 and 2. Never had a problem before but this year the "instructions" from TurboTax said "File separate forms for each type of income" in other words one for 'Business" and one for "Rental" this caused me to do four forms instead of the two in previous years (one for me and one for my wife), a nuisance but not my complaint.
The real PROBLEM and my COMPLAINT lies in the fact that the instructions did not say HOW TO FILL IT OUT. So I put all the numbers in thinking it would figure out the correct amounts due. But NO, NO, NO. when I looked at my categories in "income and expenses" there was figure of $12250 for "Sale of Business assets" I am self employed and I knew that I had not sold any assets and could not find the numbers on my Schedule C, or anywhere and the TurboTax people were no help at all. They had no answer. I was not until I scoured my Form K-1 and added up some numbers from all four forms that I hit on the problem.
The problem was box 10 which is a capital gains. You see, because of faulty instructions (later confirmed by the CPA I contacted) that I discovered that the software had doubled a capital gains because of filling out the forms completely twice. I ended up entering only the income and no other information. I checked this with the TurboTax CPA and she agreed this was the proper way to do it. She checked the instructions and sure enough they said nothing about this. This glaring error in instructions would have cost me nearly $1000.00 if I had not chased it down. Now, I think that TurboTax needs to own up to this error and contact anyone who filled out a K-1 and offer to reimburse anyone who paid too much because of the faulty instructions. I think this is unforgivable and I intend to spread this as far as I can.

I tried filing my taxes through TurboTax last year, but they wanted to charge me more so I went through H&R Block. Unfortunately H&R Block had technical issue last year and it created a nightmare of glitches and filing issues for thousands of people, including me. Vowing not to experience that this year, I returned to TurboTax and decided to just pay the extra that they requested the year before. 2 days after filing and being charged, I received an email saying that my Federal return has been rejected due to an "incorrect AGI" (which I pulled directly from my last year’s return). I attempted to refile it and received that same notification.
So this time, I chose to file by mail and bypass all the AGI nonsense. Lo and behold, it wouldn't let me chose the option of filing by mail. So I called a TurboTax representative. When I bought TurboTax on the phone from Intuit for my 2017 return they convinced me not to order a cheaper version available online because the seller was not authorized and to buy from them. The sales lady said it was good for five years of returns, that is, 2017 to 2021 inclusive. This turned out to be a lie. When I tried to do my 2018 return I spent hours trying to figure out how to do it from the 017 interface with no luck. When I called the company they said that the version that I had been sold for 017 was for that year only, not for five year. I can't know for sure, but on the face of it it looks like the sales lady may have been on commission, and lied to get her sale through at a higher price than I could have gotten online elsewhere.
I complained about this forcefully enough that the company gave me the 2018 version for free as a download, and I thought I would submit my taxes using that and then call them about the other three years owed me. I filled out what I think was about 90 percent of the data for the return, then got a pop up saying that I should install upgrades, which I did. This seems to have broken the connection to the return I was working on, and I was not able to log back in to access them. After trying for a couple of hours, I tried to call Intuit and was told by a recorded message that their help department was closed.
I had to stay home today and try to finish the return as I have to work tomorrow and Friday and the deadline is soon. I spent hours and hours trying to get through Intuit's voice bots to a live person but the voice bot just kept going round and round in circles. Only when I lost my temper and started answering at the robot voice did it put me through to a live person. That seems to be the only way to get through - it apparently can detect when a person is furious. The lady who answered was not stupid, but though she tried for over an hour, maybe two, to solve the problem various ways she could not get anywhere and finally I submitted an account recovery request which she said would be answered within 24 hours.
I got an automatic reply not giving me access to my files but answering some other question and called TurboTax again. I knew what to do this time and just started screaming and swearing at the chatbot and after a much shorter time got connected to a live person. This person was utterly dumb and apparently lied to me. I was on the phone with her for well over an hour. For the last half or so of the conversation I asked her to put me through to a supervisor and she said she was trying. Meanwhile I submitted another account recovery request from a different window and got the same reply. She said that the reply was an error and that she had gotten some notice about it.
I am elderly and not well and in Boston it was after 1 AM so I demanded that she transfer me immediately using ANY sort of emergency procedure she had. She then admitted that she had not really been trying to transfer me all the time I had been waiting, and said she would do a "warm transfer" right away. I asked her what a "warm transfer was" and she was evasive. I explained that whatever happened I did not want to have the call dropped during the transfer. Again she was evasive the way I interpreted her tone and words, but finally I agreed. As I feared, there was music, then a recorded message saying the service department was closed for the night. I don't know if she knew that was going to happen or not.
Judging by my call, this woman was utterly untrained and incompetent to handle my call and I just wasted hours dealing with her. She gets paid a salary for her time, but is utterly uncaring about wasting mine. I have probably wasted twenty unpaid hours so far this year due to TurboTax' coding glitches, incompetent staff, and apparent lies by its sales and customer service staff. I don't think the rage at the constant frustration is good for my heart, and I am getting chest pains. It looks like I may have to start the whole return all over again, which will take further days to do. I'd file for an extension, but have no idea how much money to pay the IRS or the State and I have no money to overpay.
I don't know if there are any weasel words in the contract that let them off the hook, but when they sold me the product - which was under false pretenses - by the way they were talking I thought it was implied that this would be normally competent software with normally competent customer service to handle glitches that were their fault. It isn't, in my view, competent software, competent customer service, or an honest effort to provide either of these. I know the tax rules changed this year and they may have had unexpected work to recode their site and train staff in the new system, and if they admitted this and were apologetic I would be somewhat mollified, but instead they pretend nothing is wrong.
I am contemplating going to Boston small claims court next week and suing them, but what I really would like to see is for someone to organize a class action suit against TurboTax, and let all the aggrieved customers join onto it. I wish I know of alternative tax software I could use that was more reliable. If I can't use an alternate program, it is back to a human tax preparer for me next year. If one's time has any value, even if TurboTax is offered free, the time waste due to what appears to me to be sheer incompetence is so large that it is better not to be lured into using TurboTax at all. GRRR!

False advertising and then ripping you off with no one to call or speak to without paying even more. You should be ashamed. I could have sat with a tax consultant for this price.

I opted to pay my taxes in installments with automatic withdrawals from my bank. I live in Indonesia so do not use checks. TurboTax is demanding I download a voucher and mail it with a check to pay my state taxes. I CANNOT!!! There is NO ONE to call without paying $20 for that simple problem. I REFUSE to be ambushed into paying this fee. Next year...GOODBYE TurboTax!
