I have been using Turbo Tax and its predecessors Cantax and Taxwis (Turbo Tax bought them both) since 1998. Trying to figure the various sections of the Tax Code in preparing the annual Federal/Provincial income tax is numbing as there are changes every single year. As it stands If I complete the forms manually, any mistake I make which would have given me a deduction, Canada Revenue will not correct it, however any mistake that cost CRA money will be corrected by CRA. Turbo tax has the tax code, form, explanations and suggestions to assist me in the preparation of my annual tax. It has found me $$ on many an occasion.

Product is a scam. Promised customer service is via very long hold times or an appointment 2 weeks out. 2 weeks for an appointment during tax time is basically non-existence of the service. If there are 2 weeks wait in February. Very likely you won't have access in crunch time. Last year I got live help. The customer service rep who called me back this year was polite but poorly trained. She had no idea how long the wait time was (a failure of basic service by Turbo Tax). She connected me to a supervisor but call was dropped. This is the ** school of customer service. Last year I had frequent interaction with customer service. This year it's fallen off a cliff. Will find alternative for TurboTax.

I've used Turbo Tax for a number of years. I've never had a problem with the software or the IRS. Questions to Turbo Tax are answered promptly. They have several products, I use the "Deluxe" edition as it suits my needs. I can enter possible deductions and determine if it's worthwhile or take the standard deduction. The software leads you through various deductions. Also, it's easy to simply transfer data from institutions and from last years Turbotax software, if used. By comparison, I used H&R Block software one time and did not find it as easy to navigate.

I have used this software for many years. It is extremely easy to use. Just answer all the questions and import whatever forms can be imported (this saves you from typing in everything from the form). After all questions have been answered, the tax forms are ready to be reviewed and printed out to keep in your records, click to submit the forms--free for federal forms, and for a fee for state tax forms (or just print them and mail them in).

Intuit TurboTax is great, it's very easy to use and it asks simple understandable questions to fill out your taxes. It makes taxes more understandable for someone that doesn't know how to do the taxes by long way or doing all the math. If you can't afford or just want to save as much money as possible Intuit TurboTax is the way to go. I've used this to do my taxes for the last 5 years and it has made it easy and you can get help if you spend a few bucks and they guarantee your taxes when you use the paid version. If you have simple taxes or know what you're doing then the free version will save you some money. This is a great tax software for everyone.

Intuit Turbotax is easy to use. It takes you step by step to assure all information is put in and has several stops to review information you've put in already and allow putting any additional that may not fit into the usual patterns. The software saves your information from your to year and will review if anything has changed and allow you to make changes to existing information as needed. I have used Intuit Turbotax for several years and am very pleased with it.

After patiently navigating the platform for nearly 4 hrs, with all my small business and work itemizations and deductions, it still had me owing a huge Federal amount, no matter what changes and corrections I made. I have used TurboTax for the past 9 years & have been very pleased. However, doing my 2020 taxes this year was a nightmare. I had to spend 8-10 hours (total) on the phone with various Turbo Tax specialists trying to fix the problems I was having due to glitches in their software. And because one minor problem ultimately could not be fixed, and because you can’t e-file unless every last minor problem is fixed, I had to print out my returns and File By Mail the old fashioned way, which took me even more time & additional expense for postage. I will also not get my refund this year — which is substantial — in as timely a manner as I would have if I had been able to e-file. I will definitely think long & hard about whether I want to use TurboTax again next year for my 2021 taxes. It might be a good time to try H&R Block.

I have used H&R Block for years, but they didn't have the proper form for unemployment. So, I used TurboTax. I thought they had a really nice site. I paid extra money to e-file federal and state. I paid extra money for everything. However, the e-file was rejected twice due to 2019 AGI. So, I contacted a tax expert that I had paid extra for, and she told me I had done everything right and to resubmit. But of course it was rejected again. With the time it took to find out it was rejected, resubmit, and then snail mail to the IRS, I have lost two weeks. In addition, our refund will be greatly delayed since we didn't have the ability to e-file. I don't know who dropped the ball (IRS or TurboTax) because I am seeing other TurboTax complaining about the same thing. Next year I will just use the IRS site to file taxes. I heard that it is actually free unlike the supposed other companies that say it's free but then charge you tons of money.

I decided to do my taxes with TurboTax Intuit like I do every year and I made all of six or seven thousand on the W-2 I filed and I was going to receive a total of $566 back and I was credited in advance of $250 because I recently lost my job and I needed the money. I thought the thing was going to be free and figured there would be some kind of fee for the advance for the refund and after I finish everything I saw my order summary and I had to pay $170 for everything $90 to process my federal refund $45 to process my state refund of $88. And then one more fee of 45 dollars to get the money taken out of my federal return.

I have always gotten my taxes done for free at TurboTax and this is the shadiest year that they have ever done business and it's been over a week and I still haven't gotten my debit card in the mail from them or my refunds that were approved five days ago that I'm supposed to apparently get four days in advance then normal refunds so the only good thing I can say is they gave me advance of 250 and charged me $170 for it. Now I'm waiting for all of the $150 back from my federal after they take everything else for it.

Also ask some information about my stimulus because apparently the card I have gets government benefits deposited to it and I'm talking about the second stimulus. They are now help with anything at all I mean apparently I got like the super package and I couldn't even get a hold of somebody the other day I was on the phone for an hour and a half and I have to look up hacks just to talk to a live person because I feel like they purposely made it so nobody can get a hold of any human unless you have some magic 20 number combination that only the IRS and the president know. I honestly wouldn't follow them unless you really need a $250 advance like I do because you are super broke and can't afford anything or afford to wait a week and a half. I know you could get a cheaper anywhere else like super suggest not filling with TurboTax unless you absolutely have to.

I was filing my taxes and I've always loved TurboTax, it was really easy to use. It was asking me if I wanted to file for the American Hope Credit and I just clicked on "yes". It said I need to pay $40 for that. I thought to myself, "Oh, it's just $40 taking from my refund". After I filed it, it was $40 for federal, state and processing fee. It was $120 in total! I'm a college student, the refund was really going to help but I have to give these in fees. When I called about it, they were really unsympathetic and told me there's nothing I could do. They blamed me for it, not because of the misleading they wrote about fee. I only saw the total fees AFTER I filed for them. They will NOT give you a refund. At all.

I spent three hours entering all required information. I watched those numbers go up and down. At the very end, I was getting a refund. Right before I’m about to move to the payment step, I’m asked to do one last quick review. I’m asked to re-enter information I already entered. I do so earnestly thinking it’s probably just extra precaution. As soon as I enter wages, the number dwindles all the way to zero and swings the other way and now I owe double what I was going to get. When I tried to figure out what was happening it showed me the upgrade option. At this point I’m losing it. Without getting into any details, it’s been rough; this year has been very difficult and I’m under a lot of stress.

Watching those numbers swing to the opposite side was the needle which broke the iceberg. I literally had a mental breakdown. Screaming and crying. After I calmed myself down I decided to call. It was super difficult to get through the AI and speak to a human being. When I finally did, I explained to the lady what took place. She immediately mentioned that I needed a licensed tax specialist and that I don’t have this option selected. Again, trying to get me to pay more. After a few back and forth and because of my persistence and my questioning skills she finally said something which made me realize that entering the information I already entered wasn’t a repetitive step, it was actually an addition.

I persisted and got her to show me what to do to edit documents (under tools), it’s where I noticed a duplicate W2. I deleted it but the numbers never went back to where they were at the end. I’m convinced this is a tactic to get people to pay more than they need. Which given what’s going on in the world is SUCH A SHAME. I cleared all of my information and logged out. And now instead of getting some of my money, they’re getting none of it, because I will be using the free tax services at my school, or maybe go somewhere else more honorable. I hope what happened to me doesn’t happen to others. And if it does, I hope they get to see that they’re not alone. When a company uses these conniving ways, the best thing to do is take your business elsewhere. Be careful with Intuit Turbo Tax. They don’t want to help you. They want the most money they can get out of you.

It appears that Costco is selectively posting reviews for 2020 Turbo Tax Premiere CD (which is actually updated with downloads frequently). I wanted to save people from a similar miserable experience with this years' Premiere. The software is faulty-- specifically not loading Brokerage (a major one) data into worksheets (it did load into the actual tax forms). The worksheets don't provide information to determine what needs to be done, then won't allow filing until worksheets are "fixed." Support (waiting time 45 minutes when it is open) provided little beyond what I already knew -- that it was corrupted -- information was "not aligning" -- Actually there was no info, just the worksheet with no info. The quick zoom didn't work -- so you are seeing the worksheet through a small window. Support indicated that the worksheets were filed with the return. However, when printing out the required forms to file the worksheets are not there.

My first problem with the software was the posting of 2 different results in two different places (confusing) -- support assured me that the one of the two places was correct (confusing) -- so it needs to be thoroughly examined and recalculated. I will be redoing and mailing my taxes this year. Costco has not posted the review. Although there are a limited number of reviews as of 02/01/21, about half have a 1 star experience. Costco's, Turbo Tax's advertising seems extremely aggressive.

    Other issues:

    - Tax payments weren't adding up, I tried to determine what was missing but I couldn't locate the disaggregated data, only the lump sum.
    - Software is surprisingly user unfriendly -- much scrolling required -- no auto return.
    - A couple places, rounding was questionable.

    - While not limited to 2020, Turbo Tax programs ask for/require information not necessary to file.

My subscription automatically renews each year and I get an email to download the newest Deluxe program. While I'm already a client, I still get marketing emails from TT. I believe the root of my current issue was that I may have downloaded a "free" version of TT 2020 thinking it was my annual download. I got completely through the return preparation and was going to efile my Oregon return when the TT program asked me to pay $20. While one state return is included in the annual fee I pay of $70, I went ahead to pay the extra fee just to be done with the tax filing. I received a message that TT could not complete the transaction because my credit card was used on another account. Ah, OK.

I found the email with the Deluxe TT edition for 2020, uninstalled the free version, installed the version I paid for and now, I locked in a loop asking to download my Oregon return but not downloading it like an error 190 twilight zone. I can't file my federal either until I can get past this prompt. I also can't get help from TT. I've spent literally hours trying to figure it out. I filed a request for assistance, received a phone number to call and a Support ID #, then waited on hold for 40 minutes before being disconnected by their automatic system. After a positive interaction with Intuit TurboTax, Zachary increased their star rating on Jan. 9, 2021.

    Updated review: Jan. 9, 2021

TurboTax actually came through and ensured the payment was pending from the IRS as of 1/8/2021. I will continue to use TurboTax as it is simple and easy to use. They do a really great job at making sure that it is easy to understand even if you are not a tax expert perse. The only reason I can’t provide 5 stars would be the upsells around every corner. It seems like each time you click the next page they’re attempting to get additional money off of you. I also recommend that if you do have to pay for the service, which will occur if you do not have a simple return, pay for it upfront instead of allowing TurboTax to take the fees out of your refund. It’ll save you in the long run.

    Original Review: Jan. 8, 2021

TurboTax has been my go-to for years but they have officially lost a customer and I will be filing with an individual tax agent this year. Why? Because of the blame-shifting in regard to the stimulus and FALSE emails being sent giving FALSE hope to the American people who used their service and have not received their economic stimulus. TurboTax sent me an email on Wednesday, 1/6/21, advising there was an error on the IRS end causing stimulus payments to be sent to incorrect, closed, TurboTax bank accounts rather than being sent to me, and that they were working tirelessly and vigorously with the IRS to ensure I still receive my payment.

I received another update early morning this morning, 1/8/21, advising they had made progress with the IRS and that economic stimulus payments would begin being deposited today. Despite TurboTax providing this FALSE hope, the IRS is still advising me that I WILL NOT receive the stimulus payment via direct deposit and that I must apply for a rebate on my 2020 tax refund and that I will be able to receive it when I receive my tax return. I will not do business with a company who plays the blame game and supplies lies in order to make them look better!

I've been using Turbo Tax for many several years and I am highly disappointed at the services and claims that's happing with the Stimulus Check deposit. I read an article that said by Turbo Tax and IRS that the reason for deposit issue is the card was inactive or was no longer available or wrong account. Again, I've been with Turbo Tax for many years and always used my Turbo Tax direct deposit. My card is active. My card is in my possession. My card has a balance on it. I have two kids and one of many that is depending on receiving the stimulus. This so called error needs to be fixed and resent to all of those who did not receive the stimulus checks as soon as possible. My account is active. This situation certainly has me on fence with even filing my 2020 taxes with TurboTax. How will I know that I will actually receive my refund or an ERROR would cause my refund not to direct deposit to my account???

And the delays of our state it puts a delay on everything that we do in our daily life and confuses us at times because I got confused and I was getting ready to give up. What I did was I had moved from a location that I did my taxes where they have on file. So I was putting my new address in and it kept booting me out because it was not the address they have on file.

What I can tell you is if everything is correct when you put it in you can disable your card, get a new one sent out, stop everything with your last account in case you did lose or misplace your card. I learnt today old 103 2021 that's when I put in my old address that I did my taxes on. It automatically went through. It went on and Captain my old card and I have a new one getting sent out. I have been using Turbotax for more than 10 years. In general it has been working ok, with some minor issues here and there, but about a month ago I received a letter from the IRS regarding my 2018 return. Turns out that when using the "import feature" for my Vanguard investments Turbo tax screwed up and imported the wrong column. The result was an additional tax payment due, which I am fine with, but there was also a penalty. Turbotax denies any responsibilities, hiding behind their warning that it is all the users responsibility. Look for alternatives!!!

I re-entered the correct AGI six times and I kept getting rejected for the same number (that I was not putting in) every time. When I tried to get help I was connected to someone who could not speak English and kept saying, "Ok I understand your problem" and then going silent. When I tried to download my return to sent it by mail the PDF was not giving me all the pages. I am now going to be filing my return late and I need to find someone to help me fix my taxes. I paid $140 for nothing. Also (and this is important) TurboTax kept trying to charge me more money on every page. I think clicking no once should be enough. Furthermore they tried to get me to give them my login and password to my bank account which is an absolute no go. I would give zero stars if possible.

I checked my refund status on the IRS website and it says my refund was sent 2 days ago, but yet I still don't have anything on my card. I called them and one lady said as soon as the IRS sends refunds they automatically post to the card, the second person I talked to said that they process transactions throughout the day, and the third person I talked to said that it'll post as soon as they get it and process it. I don't think any of the employees know what they're talking about because if they did I wouldn't get told 3 different answers to one question. I don't believe I'll be using Turbotax again after this.

A CPA will only review your return if you request to do so. After paying 119 for this service you would think that a CPA should review it. But no, basically you're better off using a free service and reviewing the information yourself. As for the 100% satisfaction guarantee well they don't actually honor it. They say I was responsible for verifying the accuracy even though I paid them to do it. Please don't use this service they basically charge you for doing absolutely nothing. Due to the Covid-19 disaster, I filed my original 2019 by the "normal" tax filing deadline of April 15, 2020. I then attempted to update the information and was charged a fee of $120.00 plus tax for a return that would obviously be rejected. Come to find out, the IRS does not allow the e-file of an amended return (1040-X). When I attempted to get support and request a refund, I got neither. Not only did I have to do the entire return on my own and mail it in to the IRS, but Turbotax Support/Customer Service indicated I was not eligible for a refund to the e-file costs charged when I update the information and as is predictable, the IRS rejected the amended return.

I went through several hoops to address the issue online with Turbotax. In addition, I used the Virtual Assistant option and requested a phone call that never came. I have never experienced this type of issue with Turbotax before, however will NEVER USE THEM in the future! Their e-file system should have flagged the issue prior to accepting payment for an e-file of amended return as the same login information was used and the same account both times. Had the system been designed properly, they system should not have accepted payment for a return for a tax year that had already been accept months before. I expected better quality protection. In the future, I will NOT ever use Turbotax. There are far too many alternate options to accept such poor customer service and billing practices. Other services have stood behind their products when similar issues arose.

I submitted my taxes in order to meet the deadline but ended up having to pay for the TurboTax software TWICE (I had purchased my first copy from Costco). After spending a couple hours entering all of the information, I was not about to clear the form and start over. The license key cannot be entered after the fact. VERY MISLEADING! I have an S-corporation. TurboTax Business Online and Quickbooks Online both work quite well but there are few things about it that are really frustrating for me.

    1. Cannot import business information from QBO to TurboTax. This should be a no-brainer feature between the two, since these products are both made by Intuit and are their main products. This was one of the main reasons why I chose to use these products. However, you cannot copy from QBO to TT, and they don't mention this limitation anywhere on their main web site. Only there is an article hidden away in their support forums, see below URL.

    https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/banking/can-i-import-quickbooks-online-data-into-turbotax-business-2019/00/488435

    2. If your S-Corp reports losses, you cannot E-File. This is a big pain, there is one checkbox that TurboTax does not support, which is to include a calculation worksheet for basis. The solution is to file the federal return by paper, including the state return. Even NY State requires an E-File, but TT forces me to file by paper, for this reason. See below URL. Not sure if they will ever fix this!!

I've watched the once good product evolve as well. Having retired over 3 years ago, my returns are far less complex. I no longer need all of the bells and whistles as before. I still have investments, so the "free" version, was not going to cut it. I opted for the "plus" version, thinking that would suffice, as I only had a single 1099 form from one brokerage. Immediately after downloading the form, I was told I MUST upgrade to "Deluxe", with two other additions to Deluxe, which were optional, and not needed. I found that in doing the remainder of the return, which was deductions, they were continuing to try to sell me more.

Finally came to the point of checking the returns, and the upgrade options still coming on strong. $60.00 for the one upgrade, and $50.00 for the state return, for a fairly simple retiree return. Not next year!!! The actual e file window was then shifted to a lineup of credit cards and loan sources as "looking out for my financial future". I found that cheesy and insulting! 47+ years of success, an outstanding credit rating, and they want to dump this in my face before confirming that my e file was completed.

I've been around the block numerous times. If I want another credit card or God forbid, a loan, I sure as hell know where to go. They have lost a 20+ year customer. HR Block's software would suffice, or even drop my stuff in a local accountant's hands would be cheaper based on what was needed. There are other options out there Intuit, and I will use one next year!

And here is the problem that follows: after using the 5 free e-files, you CANNOT purchase the same edition of turbotax with the intent of entering a new license code to be able to e-file five more on the same computer. THEY HAVE ASSOCIATED THE LICENSE CODE WITH YOUR COMPUTER IP ADDRESS!!

My sister-in-law does not have a desktop/laptop/tablet so I allowed her to use my desktop with HER Deluxe edition software/license code. She did her family taxes. When it was my turn to do taxes for my kids and myself, it would not allow me to input MY license code. We tried everything short of altering the registry. They even re-issued a couple different license codes (for my already valid one). I remove ALL traces of the current year .txf files and pdf's. Nothing worked.

After 4.5 hours on the phone troubleshooting, my choices were to find another computer to use, or upgrade to premier so that turbo tax wouldn't block me again. I have no use for the higher level edition (at a higher price tag), so neither option is fair to the consumer!!! However, I filed my 2019 taxes on February 7th, and they were accepted the same day. I double and even triple checked the numbers that I had typed in. I did end up having issues with the software kicking me off and saying that I needed to check this or that (when I already had). I made less than $12,000 last year. I did have a couple of job changes (again, nothing new, I have before), and I had a change in colleges (nothing new, again).

I received my STATE taxes less than 3 weeks after filing. But for whatever reason, the IRS is "reviewing" my federal tax return - which has never happened before, ever. I was counting on those taxes to help fund a move for a job. Guess what? It's APRIL 17th, and even though I filed and they were accepted on FEBRUARY 7th, I STILL don't have them. What a mess, right? I'll be calling the IRS again Monday morning to see if I can get any new information other than, they're reviewing them and it could take up to 60 days.... Hell, I don't have 60 days as my lease is up next month. I definitely will not be using TurboTax again.

I filed my taxes using this service in March. I did not owe taxes, and I did not get a refund. My income bracket clearly puts me and my family in a high need category when it comes to the stimulus payments. Since I was unable to get the My Payment portal from the IRS to work because of the zero due glitch, I attempted to refile my return through TurboTax. They want to charge me to re-file. When I attempted to reach out to them to explain the situation a barrage of online and telephone blockade protocols kick in. The programming of this blockade is to extort money out of people who obviously don't have it to begin with.

We are out of everything. Our mobile phones have been disconnected, which is preventing us from being able to do much to help ourselves out of this situation like delivering groceries for Instacart. Instead of providing some avenue for consumers to discuss this and help come up with a solution the message they are sending out is "Pay Up or go away".

In 2018 we efiled our taxes with TurboTax and to pay both federal and state taxes. In 2019 I tried to efile and the filings were rejected. After multiple attempts I set up an account with the IRS and saw that the adjusted gross income the IRS had listed was over $3000.00 less than TurboTax had accounted for us. I pulled the IRS Account Record and saw that there were actually two adjusted gross incomes. The one TurboTax had and then the one the IRS had. BOTH were tallied by the TurboTax system but they chose to use the higher amount when factoring our taxes.

Now I need to go back and file an amended 2018 tax return for federal and state because we overpaid by a combined total of $500 plus and I'm out the $150 to file (I'm self-employed) because TurboTax says we used their product. Additionally, when I finally did get things straightened out for our 2019 Taxes on the H&R Block Platform their totals had me pay over $200 less in taxes for 2019. I would have overpaid 2 years in a row with TurboTax. When I called for a refund they gave me the runaround and said there was nothing they could do and then thanked me for choosing their products. Not only am I not using TurboTax but I'm no longer using Quickbooks. They aren't trustworthy. I've retained the IRS report for my records as well as the Tax Returns for comparisons.

It's a good and easy tool if you don't have any complication with your finances or your details stored in the SS or IRS database. But, their tool had a bug, I reached out to their live support, They disconnected me twice and refused to escalate or give me an answer. They made contradicting statements to what they had on the tool. When I asked which statements should I trust, your tool or your support, they put me on a long long time wait hoping I'll give up but, since I didn't, they closed their chat on me! This is the 2nd year that this has happened to me. They charge for premium service and live support which is absolute rip off. Again, their core service is very good if you have a very simple and straight forward return.

Very unprofessional, and not what was promised. My 2018 refund has not been received and I cannot get anyone to help me. I would never recommend this service if you want any customer service at all. They don't answer the phone number given and no follow up to see if issue is resolved. It is up to you to research other users responses to get any progress, and then not what you need. When you go to the site, it only prompts you to proceed with filing your next return.

When I buy a loaf of bread, it doesn't require that I buy butter. Or a toaster. It doesn't care. Don't we wish using TurboTax software was as easy? But it's a demanding task master. I bought the Premier edition to run under a Windows OS (Operating System) on a PC AMD hexcore processor using 64-bit architecture.

The first problem is that TurboTax no longer runs on Windows 7, so I was forced to go through the tremendous hassle of changing my OS. But hey, Windows 10 is better, right? So all should run smoothly. Not so. And why is TurboTax then installed only as 32-bit architecture? I mean, if you're going to upgrade, go all in, TurboTax. Maybe running a 32-bit application on a 64-bit bus caused my problems, but if so, TurboTax should have vetted its software first. And if not, TurboTax still suffers endemic programming problems. (Intuit dumped Quicken -- is TurboTax next?)

When starting up, if TurboTax updates to a newer set of files, it has a button that says it will restart. The button still doesn't work (that failure also occurred in the 2018 program). You have to go back to your shortcut and double-click it to start TurboTax. Usually. Sometimes -- get this -- even THAT doesn't work. Fortunately, double-clicking on the data file, the one with extension ".2019tax" does work in getting the program to start running.

Once in, you can meander through the various sections using the step-by-step interface. One of the features of TurboTax is that if there is a numeric field, you can right-click on it and choose "Add Supporting Details" from a context menu to open a window in which to add those data. But oh well, sometimes right-clicking does not bring up any menu. OK, so let's simply use TurboTax's shortcut from the Edit menu: Ctrl+I. Oops. That doesn't always work either. In TurboTax's defense, opening the Edit menu and selecting "Add Supporting Details" does work every time. But it is annoying to fail with option A and then fail again with option B before finally resorting to option C for success. No one likes to deal with inconsistencies in a program.

Worse, you can't always edit the data in a supporting detail window. When I select copying last year's data to this year to save a lot of typing (who wouldn't do so?), the ancillary supporting details windows also get copied. Marvelous. Good idea. However, this year I have differences over last year, so some of the old data needs to be deleted. Can I do that, TurboTax? Uh-uh. Well, usually, but not in every instance. That's quite annoying. At least there's a check box to NOT print the supporting-details window. Otherwise, I could conceivably invite an audit since there would be entries with no supporting data.

Here's another one. TurboTax's wording in Help led me to believe I could qualify for the QBI deduction, so I entered it. But QBI being a new thing, I did more research and found (from the IRS website) that I do NOT qualify for QBI. Fine. Let's delete it from my return. But I could find absolutely no way for me to do that in the step-by-step (Ctrl+1) interface. I was going nuts trying to figure out how to do so. Finally, I had the idea to go into the Forms (Ctrl+2) mode and search for all references to forms relating to QBI. I found and deleted them before going back to step-by-step to check if my guesses worked. Fortunately, they did, but the step-by-step method is quite unforgiving. It is difficult to reverse a decision.

Of course, these are just major irritations, nothing to compel you to go berserk and take it out on anybody. But wait. Never fear. There IS a TurboTax "feature" that inspires a wish to inflict great bodily harm. I was deep into making entries in Deductions & Credits, having already populated Wages & Income, probably about SIX HOURS worth of effort. And then? TurboTax crashed (while I was making entries for Medical Expenses). I lost EVERYTHING! (Wait a minute. I thought running TurboTax under Windows 10 was a great step forward.)

OK, once burned, twice shy. I spent more hours re-entering everything and used Ctrl+S after EVERY entry. (Of course, Ctrl+S didn't always work; sometimes I had to select "Save" from the File menu. Once again, inconsistency.) But saving is a smart idea, right? -- get that data secured in the .2019tax file! Ah, but TurboTax had other plans. It crashed TWICE more while I was making entries. Just an annoyance, yes? Not so. Much of the data that I had saved, I had only "saved". That is, TurboTax led me to BELIEVE it was saved. It WASN'T. It reminded me of Einstein's definition of insanity: repeating the same action and expecting different results. I kept re-entering and saving the same data and -- silly me -- expected it to be saved.

It's still hard for me to get my head around the fact that saving doesn't really update the .2019tax file. Maybe to "streamline" response time, TurboTax saves in some temporary area before deciding to actually put the data in the .2019tax file. Not cool. I was steaming. And here's the kicker. After my final re-entry of data (fortunately not all of it up to three times), I had my financial advisor look at the final product. He found an area that was missing data. I thought I had caught all the gaps and re-entered everything, but I hadn't. This, plus program crashes, doesn't exactly make me trust TurboTax's reliability. Or put another way, this program behavior is garbage. Saving something should actually save it. That shouldn't be too hard a concept to implement. The user shouldn't have to second-guess whether his actions worked or not.

In a less soul-torturing dimension, how about behaving as other Windows-based programs do? If I place a program window on my desktop at a certain location and with my preferred height and width dimensions, it remembers them. Wonderful. Thank you, Microsoft and program developers. No so TurboTax. It starts every time nowhere but in the upper left corner of OS's primary screen, preferred location and size ignored. TurboTax should recognize that not every user runs his windows maximized. How hard is it for TurboTax to join the majority of applications that remember the user's preferences? I have emailed the good folks at TurboTax on this issue at LEAST twice in the last ten years or so, and I've never seen a change in the program's behavior, let alone had the courtesy of a reply telling me why TurboTax refuses to implement this standard program feature.

These reasons are why I rate TurboTax as three stars. With respect to functional accuracy, that is, producing a product that does what you want it to, I'd give TurboTax 4.9 stars (the missing additional tenth of a star is because there are certain not-so-common yet not-so-uncommon forms that it could support if it wanted to). With respect to customer support and to program operational reliability and consistency, I give TurboTax one star. The agony of fighting it I find neither amusing nor welcome. I should feel comfortable about a product, not suspicious or anxiety-ridden. I've been using TurboTax since 1998. I am no longer as confident as I once was. If TurboTax was a car, I wouldn't trust the brakes to work every time.

THEN after fixing it (you actually have to fix it by the way) they take you to the File return screen.. A lovely message pops up that says due to the complexity or your tax situation they cant file your return unless you buy their Deluxe program. They already had filed it so this was re-filing it. My tax situation is NOT complex by any stretch of the imagination, no dependents, I don't own anything, single and I don't have any other income.. Easy. Well they wouldn't "re-submit" my return until I agreed to purchase their deluxe program for a wonderful price of only 80.00. If you say no they wont file your taxes and you cant leave that screen.

I finally thought, fine Ive already wasted 2 hours of my life on this program- I might as well pay the 80 bucks to get this over with.. They wanted to charge my card (the one I entered into my tax return). I said NO. They then said they would take it out of my refund.. I said fine... Checked the box giving them permission to see if my refund would cover their 80.00 charge. It flashed to a new screen now showing I owed another 40.00. Their "FEE" to deduct it from my refund. Their Fee to deduct 80 bucks from my refund was to charge an additional 50%, over what they were forcing me to pay. This free return is at 120.00 now. At this point you cant change anything, cant print, cant save-so you cant file your corrected return until you pay these crooks money.

It's horrible, misleading and dishonest. I turned off my computer-logged back on and I deleted my entire account.. I don't trust them. I went through FREE TAX USA- they are great and they don't hold your return hostage. The worst thing is I checked my bank account and that horrible Turbo Tax took 31.00 out of my account even though I didn't even use their rotten company to file my taxes.. Ill never get that back... NO other forms required. So the questions were so confusing on entering the income that it would keep asking to update. Result was that we ended up with a COLUMN A showing the income from the 3 North Carolina jobs totaling $1300 plus the $14 interest income. Then it showed COLUMN B and asked: "how MUCH of the income FROM COLUMN A is taxable in North Carolina," so we put the full $1300: Result was that TurboTax showed total income in COLUMN B as $2600!! Remember-- it was asking HOW MUCH FROM Column A is taxable -- so the total should never have been allowed to exceed the $1300 entered on Column A) and result was we paid North Carolina $39 income tax.

Instead the total should have been $1300 and we should have gotten $300 refund back (because the total income of $1300 was too low to require any income tax and $300 had been deducted from pay stubs). TurboTax never showed the forms which would have allowed us to see the error. (How could you MISS IT!) They just did the calculations based on the info entered and then updated what we owed. Then of course there is their multiple reviews: "Let's review everything one more time to see if you are getting the best outcomes possible". How could their reviews NOT CATCH that a Column B was reporting more money than their COLUMN A from which the figures were being drawn from? It was not until after we finalized and were able to print out the return that I immediately spotted the glaring error. So if they can't properly review a SIMPLE return, just think what the review would miss on more complex tax documents!!!

This was my first year trying this product and never again. Especially, at this tumultuous time with COVID-19 affecting so many. I am truly disappointed with this company.

I reached out to a TurboTax "professional" and was told I didn't need to enter it this year, since there were no penalties for not having insurance. I filed my taxes on January 29, and still have NOT received my refund as of March 25. I had to send my 1095-A and 8962 to the IRS after receiving a letter. This issue has impacted thousands of filers this year and placed an additional burden on the IRS. There are community discussions sites and social media pages dedicated specifically to this problem Turbo Tax has caused so many filers!

Made a huge difference... initially I was getting $3000 back instead I owed $6000 between state and federal. $40,000 from a stock transfer from a 401 K to a Roth IRA did not show up in income. Fortunately I saw there was an issue and that the program could not be right before I sent it in. They did work with me but it was very tedious and never really figured out why it did not work correctly. We just managed to get the amount to be included. Turbo Tax will only tell me to uninstall/reinstall Turbo Tax. This is nonsense because I can clearly see all the Turbo Tax folders in the drive E. To Intuit - fix your software; if the Turbo Tax file can find drive R, then it should ask the client which drive to look in. Fix your software for 2019 and 2020.

I got to the end of filing my taxes with TurboTax - Free, and was told I needed to upgrade to the deluxe version because I qualified for a Schedule 3 deduction. Since the deluxe version was $60 and the deduction was $100, it was a no-brainer to just go ahead and upgrade even though I'm a little annoyed that I wasn't notified that claiming that deduction required the deluxe version. So I click the upgrade button and go to file again, and all of a sudden there are two $50 dollar charges for filing each of my two state returns - which were completed and previously free with the free version of TurboTax. Nowhere was it stated that the price of the deluxe version was $60 plus $50 for each state return. Now I'm even more frustrated and annoyed and frankly angry.

At this point it is cheaper to not claim the deduction and to file with the free version. So after a lot of digging (they do *not* make this easy folks) I figure out that if I claim that I was a full-time student (even though I was not) then I can remove that deduction and that form. So my return is now $100 less than it was before, but I can presumably use the free version again so I should come out $60 ahead overall. Y'all. I. Can. Not. Find. How. To. Go. Back. I haven't filed, haven't paid anything, all I did was click once to upgrade to the deluxe version. There HAS to be a way to get back to the free version, right? Started filling my 2019 return, got to the file section in which they charge my credit card for the services I wanted, and the next screen is "review your return" and guess what, it's wrong and the online tool does not allow to change it (Form 2210), but they were smart enough to charge me before I notice the gap in their system, and of course they have no return policy. Support said I need the desktop version to edit Form 2210, did so, and was good to go, and now the desktop version wants me to pay for filling the State tax, which I had already paid for in the Online version! This company is a joke, you are better off with a CPA. And this way you give less money to the company that is lobbying to keep taxes in the US hard to submit.

I will continue to use this product next year as I found it relatively easy to breeze through my taxes, both Federal and State. My only complaint is that they charge extra if you need to use more than one State return.

Just trying to get to the forms is now a royal pain in the **. Some of us are filing taxes because we work for a living, not because we are trying to get welfare payments. After trying to get to a 1120S for over a half hour, I went to TaxAct.

The techniques TurboTax started with are now pretty standard. Being able to copy last year's return is a plus. But everybody does that. I moved my stuff over. It took me less time to get my info transferred than it did to get access to the TurboTax software. It is a shame that you can't go to TurboTax, get the taxes filed and get on with the job of running the business. Too much cutesy BS on there and too many ad diversions. The price keeps going up and now it's overly expensive for even a simple business return. No thanks. Here's a business trying to keep software programmers employed when the goal should be to make the process more efficient and effective. Bye.

I've told other widowed people about this on the forums, and I've gotten many replies from people who had the same problem with TT but then were successfully accepted with the program I used. What makes me especially mad is that TT won't own up to their problem. They keep making up stuff about the IRS' database having the wrong AGI recorded for you, or they claim your spouse's "locked" SS number is at fault, or other complete bs. I'm never using them again!

I have the easiest taxes to do in about 15 years. I chose TurboTax free. As I progressed with the entry of my two (2) forms, PA W2, PA UC 1099G, I was pushed up to a paid version. Accepted. I spent over an hour trying to complete my taxes for submission. There were errors I could not figure how to work through. I ended up paying for Deluxe so I could get a tax "expert" on chat. My free quickly became $187.25. She could see my screen. We spent over two (2) hours attempting to resolve to no avail. She (Naomi) spent time with "Tech support" persons for some time as well, to no avail. Sending the diag file showed no errors. The issue seems to be faulty software.

I live in WV, worked in PA. The prompts ask all of those questions. Problem being if you attempt to follow the WV state return, it asks if you worked in another state. Yes. Says you must complete that state's return before finishing WV state. You can't finish PA state since the Review will mention TT found errors since the WV state has not been completed, which it can't be. You are caught in a loop. Had a real hard time (as well as the expert) deleting PA state from TT. Now my CC has been charged, and I can not file any return.

I decided I wasted 3+ hours overall and asked for full refund. The tax expert was unable to, and I would need to wait for a call from a manager the next day (today). I phoned them and received my refund authorization immediately. However, TT agent mentioned it will take up to 3 weeks for the refund! Not good practice! On another note, I went to TaxAct to attempt my luck on there. Within 30 minutes I was ready to file both state and federal for a total cost of $55, no errors or warnings. TA asks all the same questions, but seems to understand the PA/WV reciprocal taxation agreement.

I have been filing my taxes with Turbo Tax for a few years. In the last three years, I have been making under $36,000. I should have been qualified for the free edition but every single time I was charged for the upgrade. I called to ask why I was charged this year and to get a refund if possible. They said it was not possible because I already chose and paid for the Deluxe option. They said I needed the Deluxe version because the forms I was submitting required it and that every year new forms arose that required them to charge extra or change their fees. The representative said they did not charge for filing but for the "preparation." I mentioned that it didn't matter.

The IRS mentions that anyone making under $36,000 is qualified to get this filed for free. But the TurboTax representative insisted that the charges were required for preparing them. On the IRS page, Chuck Rettig, IRS Commissioner specifically states, "Free File online products offer free federal tax return PREPARATION, free electronic filing and free direct deposit of refunds..." The IRS also states that "As long as you qualify for the Free File federal return offer, you must not be charged for preparation and e-filing of a federal tax return."

I spoke to an IRS representative on the phone and asked if there were any exceptions to this such as any type of forms that required these companies (listed as providing a tax-free service) to charge extra fees, she said no. I am really shocked at how TurboTax is continuing this deceptive advertising. There are several people who are making less than 20,000 who are getting charged ridiculous fees for a service that should be free (as advertised and as promoted through the IRS).

If you only use the free version you can file worry and hassle-free. Had it been that experience alone I would have given 5 stars. Upgrading: the money trap: You must READ READ READ especially when upgrading! I was told I needed an upgrade to finish my taxes and it listed the upgrade price as only $40 (the "early bird" discount). There is fine print beneath that reads "state additional".

They DO NOT explain well that there is an INITIAL $40 charge for the product THEN an ADDITIONAL $40 charge for EACH state you are filing for. In my instance, I had to file a non-resident and resident state tax. I was highly displeased to find out that it charges you $40 multiple times as stated above. In the end, they charged me $120. I would have sincerely appreciated it if they had made these charges very clear. I would not have gone ahead with the upgrade had it been so. It was a very costly lesson to learn and if I can help even one more person avoid the same mistake then it was worth it.
