I just paid 116.97 to TurboTax. 39.99 processing fee for to take out of refund I guess. 39.99 for to file federal and 34.00 for state which I didn't even have nothing coming back from them. I was told I was only paying 76.00 on my receipt. Somehow they managed to explain it so that they can keep the money but it's all good. I'm not arguing a no win case. Normally they tell you what you getting after the fees. This time they told you what you was getting before the fees then they take your money/fee out before your refund gets to you. So you thinking you getting one thing and it's another. If that's not hidden fees then I don't know what is. I will not use it again for 116.00 dollars. I'll write them the long way. SMDH???

TurboTax is HORRIBLE! A huge waste of time. It is beyond slow, and no guidance to go back to edit any information. After 3 hours of trying to file a simple tax form with only a standard deduction & with only half the form completed, I signed out and logged onto FreeTaxUSA. Both my state & federal taxes were completed & filed within 90 minutes with the FreeTaxUSA preparation.

Just like the many reviews I have read, I am a long time TurboTax Deluxe user and I have always been given a free state filing. This year the price was $24.99, even after being advertised for $19.99. They also tell you that you can pay for your taxes with your visa and get points, but that hardly outweighs the lofty 2.5% service charge. In my case that would be over $76! Where on earth can you get away with charging that kind of fee for using a credit card. You would think there would be a law forbidding that kind of user fee. I'll be looking for alternative means of doing my taxes next year.

The service seems getting worse every year. Many years ago, they have rep. take the phone call, not anymore. I purchase Deluxe every year, I also buy additional states on line in addition. Each additional states cost $47.80, but at filling time, it charges additional $24.99. Even for NY state which don't accept mailing. The charges go on, but you don't have a place to ask just a billing question. TurboTax only in place collecting the money.

I have used this company before but I have seen that they seem to get worse every year and this one was the worst of them all. I just spent hours of my time trying to get my Federal and state returns. I expected there would be a payment for the state. After all the time spent working on getting the return filed I get to the end where I expected the amount for the state return to file. I get a bill quote of over $70 just to get this all e-filed. Their MAX is not a option to be removed even after I looked up from their support on how to remove this to find this isn't even a option.

I despise companies that deceive their customers and that is exactly what this company does. There are hundreds of better alternatives not to mention most people can even file for free. I am submitting all of the information I have including screenshots of their website and the total that comes up after a person has only spent all their time on this waste. I will never do business with them again. I am in contacting some close friends of mine in the military as I am a Army veteran. They will be making sure that Intuit this sorry excuse for a company gets shut down for good. Intuit you may enjoy the money for now but trust me you will go down and it will be hard.

I choose to e-file this year because Turbo Tax advertised a "free e-file". Turns out that is a big fat scam. They asked me questions and I followed along, added all my information. At no time did they inform me of prices. Then I got to the end, they forced me to pay $59.99 for taxes to be filed because "I didn't qualify for the free e-file". At no time did they ever tell me what I was doing would cost extra. I even tried to backtrack and figure out what costed me the $59.99. Then when I called them to ask, they simply told me that I must have answered a certain question that caused me to not qualify. Well that is just fabulous. Lesson learned, next year I will be paying half that price for my CPA. Don't use Turbo Tax, they are scammers.

Went online to do taxes with TurboTax free. Filled out earning & because won money @ a casino and had a W2-G had to pay $59.99 for deluxe edition which states it includes e-file in price. However that’s not true either because when you try to finish the return to e-file or even print up return you have to pay additional $39.99 or can’t finish your return.

I called customer service to rectify the issue. Agent named Orlando said yes it is a misrepresentation as if it’s no big deal that they are ripping off people. This is supposed to be a reputable co. I normally purchase the CD version of TurboTax and usually have good results and would have done so again if I had know the internet version was such a rip off. The CDs are only around $35-$40. On the internet the free version winds up costing closer to $100 maybe more since haven’t gotten past the final stage yet. I have left message for return call from customer service but not hopeful that they will help either. I plan on trying a different tax version next year. I don’t trust TurboTax anymore.

That will be another $40 to file your State Return and if you don't want to pay today we will take it out of your Federal Return for only $40 more... bringing your free tax return to $140.00, minus a few pennies!" Where is the accountability in internet commerce? Are all the fat liar politicians in their pockets? The system is programmed to be business savvy "or" rather intentionally designed to scrape every penny out of "YOU" that it can. [I lost my allegiance here.]

    (1) Forces upgrade to a more expensive package, in order to complete your return. I imagine/hope this is simply for folks whom have more than W2's to file. (2) DO NOT SELECT PAY USING TAX RETURN. They automatically attach a $39.99 to receive your money "ONE DAY" faster. [This just made me mad at myself really. I already knew to be careful. I was got... Yes... Tricked, fooled, blindsided and paying an additional $40 or $39.99 [to be fair] to receive my money "ONE DAY" faster than free e-filling.] Shame on me. Oh, yes... They did explain the charges... I've been using TurboTax (Basic, Deluxe) for several years, and, for the most part have been satisfied. This year, however, has been a real challenge. First issue was the transfer of my 2016 information into the 2017 return. Typically, it's automatic and a no-brainer. This year I loaded the program as usual and it indicated that my prior year info had successfully transferred, but when I went to start the return none of it (names, employers, income, deductions) had transferred. The software asked for my name and address like I had never used the product before. Looked up Customer Service. Posted my question to the website, it gave me a number to call.

When I dialed it, the wait time was 24 minutes, about as long as it would take for me to re-enter everything manually so I hung up. Finished the return and went to file it. Requires my 2016 AGI and my PIN which is in my 2016 return (filed with TurboTax Deluxe and saved on my external drive). Attempted to open the 2016 return using the 2017 software and it shows like I've never entered a 2016 return. No refund/tax due, no income info, nothing. After numerous really good years, it sad that this one was so disappointing. A primary reason that I continued to use this software every year was the convenience of NOT having to enter names, addresses, employers, deductions, etc.

I send in 2 questions about 4 days ago, and no response. I called in 4 times, and they sent me to another departments and then another department and then the call dropped. They probably wanted me to use their live CPE or EA to go over my taxes! Why would I pay more if this is how they do business. Plus, one of the question was to show them that there were an error in how they calculate to cost basis of an ISO. I can't wait for the tax law changes so they can go out of business... Also, they advertised that they support 24/7. That is a lie!

Updated on 05/12/2018: We have used TurboTax for more than 15 years. This year while preparing the 2017 taxes, I posted 2 questions and they never answer my tax questions... it was a week before tax due, and I know why... They wanted me to use the online accountants, yeah right! for $179. One of our fed tax returns was rejected 2nd time. WE DID NOT GET ANY NOTICE/EMAIL FROM THEM THAT IT WAS REJECTED FOR THE SECOND TIME! Today, May 10, I got an email from TurboTax that one of my return got rejected. And that I have until April 22 to file! This company is going down!

I have paid for a TurboTax CD but have not been given full functionality in that I cannot print without watermarks. This a complaint with VERY MANY people. I have filed with the IRS without any complaint mailing in returns before with the "Form not Final - Do not File" watermark. It has not been a problem with the IRS. I had put in a note that it was final and I just could not get the watermark to go away. TURBOTAX, YOU NEED TO HAVE A BOX TO CHECK TO REMOVE THE WATERMARK. Maybe a few caution screens, but this is a problem and you need to send me a new updated disk is I can't update. At least only have a small watermark that does not cover the information. I will probably just mail it in once again with the watermark if this is not resolved, but I have spent hours on this.

I do not have access to high speed internet. I keep getting told to go online and update. That only gets an error message after several minutes. Repeated tries get the same result. I do like that there is now an override option again for depreciation which took a lot of time for data reentry. This nets more stars than if I was only addressing the watermark issue. I had bought but ended up not using TurboTax for 2016 due to depreciation entry issues, and used a free program instead. I did come back to TurboTax since depreciation can now be an override entry.

I did see one comment from someone trying to get a clean, no watermark print, on 2005 returns. TurboTax gave the stupid answer that they should not need returns that old. And they could not be updated to remove the watermark. This person needed them for some reason, maybe a property basis, but to just tell presume and tell someone they should not need 2005 returns was a bad answer.

Although I thought and was told for the first phone call that my son's taxes would be accepted by entering -0- for the AGI by Benvetra, that was not the case. Please review the recorded conversation for proof of these statements. On my 3 rejection I called again and spoke with Franchisca. I informed her of the actions I was told to take by entering zero as the AGI which I did and the taxes were rejected on the third time. After 45 minutes of going back and forth with being put on hold I was told that NO TurboTax would not give me a refund of my hundred dollars that it cost me and the only option I had was to file by paper now. That is completely unacceptable as I did what I was told to do on the phone call before because I saw that once I did it the third time and it was rejected I'd have to do it on paper so not my fault. TurboTax is at fault for giving me the incorrect information on this first phone call and I want my hundred dollars back.

I will never use TurboTax again which is going to be really a problem because I've used you for over 15 years but I will tell everybody and their brother for the rest of my life never ever use TurboTax because they do not give a crap about the customer or owning their mistakes or returning the customers money. I get it. You're a big company. You don't care about the little people but $100 means a lot to me. Thank you.

Turbo Tax 2017 - I ordered the basic version for the last 2 years, after ordering the standard version for many years. My wife and I are retired and we jointly file and share my retirement income. This year I entered both our returns simultaneously and expected to have income splitting applied. When I ended up owing a lot of money (for the second year in a row), I investigated what was happening. It seems that unless you upgrade to the standard version it will not income split. You have to go to the forms itself and figure out how to force it to happen. I did so and got my return. I realized, that I did not do that last year and Intuit's money grab had cost me 6000 dollars. Thanks a lot bogus product.

Worse than horrible. I have used TurboTax and Quicken for at least 15-20 years. I cannot wait to cancel. I will "attempt" to keep this brief. Among many other issues my previous returns, including the 1040 I submitted on 02 18 18, are all gone. I log in, the system knows who I am, when I select previous returns is informs me "you joined TurboTax this year". All returns including this years are gone. I received the same response when I filed on 02 18 18 that I had just joined and there are no previous returns. This is the first time a company has BEGGED me to stop giving the $$ every year and I promise to comply. Many, many, many other issues. Just one smaller one: The CD we received was damaged. It appeared as though someone used a hot glue gun on several parts of the CD. I PAY FOR the download and CD but the download was more painful than it should have been.

Other issues with TurboTax functionality. It is a shame as I have historically enjoyed and thought highly of the product. This year undid EVERY good memory. And... The Contact Us function on the Intuit website is somewhere between buffoonery and horrible. And it appears as though canceling future orders (I am, and have been on an auto renewal plan for a long, long time) will be painful, as has been the entire process.

I have used TurboTax every year since 1994 but this year is the last. I could forgive the occasional errors which force me to go to the forms to override its calculations. What makes me no longer willing to be a customer of Intuit is the repeated hidden upcharges which do not become apparent until I am well into completing my return. Another year it was downgrading the versions so that customers had to buy a more expensive piece of software to do the same return as the year before. This year it is again using the state tax returns to gouge customers who already have their federal return completed.

In the past I had gotten used to paying extra to do two state tax returns (I live in one state and work in another) although I didn't understand the charge since all the state returns were on the disk when I bought it. This year, though, because I do returns for family members, it is charging me for an extra state return for the SAME state I have already downloaded. This means I have to pay for TWO extra states since I still live in one state and work in another, and used my "free" state return on the family member.

Paying for the extra state is not just a small nuisance charge but costs $44.99 PER STATE, as much as the original package cost to buy at Costco. Nowhere on the package or in TurboTax advertising is this hidden price increase disclosed. I am determined not to set myself up for any future hidden upcharges by ever buying Intuit products again (I also object to having to pay for a new version of Quicken every three years just to keep using the same software I already paid for several times).

Next year, we will be using different software. Goodbye, TurboTax! You've lost a loyal customer (since 1998). Ed, if you're reading this, call me. I'd like to offer you a job. I will not use Intuit TurboTax again. I used them last year but did not have my previous log in information. They could not use my personal info to find my old account. Therefore I could not provide last year's AGI and they could not e-file for me. I had to print out my return to send in to IRS. I use my printer very often and it prints everything on the page; but, it printed the return they provided with all the numbers on the right cut off. I had to fill it all in with a pen. I'll likely be audited. I do not expect that they will help with that (no matter what they say). Also, I had a 1099 and W-2; which made me have to upgrade from free to $60. As for the expert helper...well that costs extra too. Don't get fooled by the cute commercials.

Tried to import file from QuickBooks to TurboTax. Intuit is the parent company of both brands. The payroll expense went from a positive number to a negative number. First CSR did a screen share, placed me on hold and then told me there was a known glitch. Transferred me to the department where I got a message that due to longer hold times, they would call me back. When I got a callback, that CSR had no clue, went through everything again and after a 50 plus minute call was told, sometimes things just don't work as advertised and that I needed to manually correct the errors.

My question is, why should I verify every entry and manually correct the errors on a tax return that is 157 pages long with all of the worksheets when I paid a company for a program that was designed to do that? I will never use TurboTax again. This is the second major issue I had with TurboTax and each time, they acted as if it was the first time it has ever happened. Surely I cannot be the only person in the world that uses TurboTax and QuickBooks that had the same problem. Guess what, just got cut off again.

I had been a TurboTax user for years before encountering any significant difficulties. Last year, I was unable to file electronically (the transmission kept "cancelling") and no one at TurboTax was able to offer any assistance. So, the returns were printed and submitted. This year, not only does each attempted transmission fail as a "cancel", but I am unable to print the returns through any possible route. Any attempt to print crashes the program. Save to pdf and then print? Would love to, but the message I get is "Nothing to Print. It seems some problem [sic] while retrieving print list details for Returns".

Tried Customer Support. In my three attempts, (1) the first one disconnected me, (2) very concerned but said she had never heard about the issues; tried to remedy them (failed), then closed the help ticket as completed after saying she would keep working on it, (3) said she had in front of her "pages and pages" of complaints about these same issues, but all she could offer were suggested workarounds that other users developed, none of which worked for me. A supervisor is supposed to call me back, but I'm still waiting.

Out of curiosity I tried printing my 2016 return and there were no problems at all. So, it would appear clear that the problem is with the programming in the 2017 software. TurboTax knows about it and doesn't seem to be throwing any resources at the issue, instead relying on the users who PAID for its software to come up with their own individual workarounds. Because I am unable to generate or file my returns any other way, I am now reduced to printing out blank forms from the IRS website and will be spending the day manually transferring all of the information from the TurboTax forms. Would have given TurboTax no stars if that were possible.

The program can't complete that form so I called and was on the phone for hours. My only recourse is to not file the form and pay taxes on $111,796 when I take the money out or send back the program to TurboTax. If I don't file my taxes with TurboTax it will cost me thousands of dollars to have an accountant do my taxes. I can't be the only person who has inherited an IRA. I itemize my deductions but I don't have a very complex return so I thought, why pay someone to do my return when TurboTax is free? Read the fine print - it is NOT free for a lot of users if you itemize or have more than one state return. I used TurboTax for my 2014-2016 returns and unfortunately counted a deduction twice (a tax I pay) because of the way the question was worded. TurboTax imported the information from one year to the next, so I didn't catch the error, but the IRS did. I got a back bill for 3 years of returns including penalties and interest. All told, that cost me $2500. I would have owed the IRS about $400 for each year had it been caught at the time. TurboTax charged me about $150 to file my returns (2 states and a federal). That's the same price that I pay a CPA. I'll never go back to TurboTax again.

TurboTax attempted to force me to upgrade to their Deluxe version for $59, even though I used their screening tool at the beginning to determine appropriate versions to use.

As a first-year retiree, I had no deductions, only income as stated on W-2 and 1099-R forms. The screening tool advised that the free version was a legitimate option based on my tax status so I went through the entire filing process including entering highly sensitive personal and tax information. Was not flagged that the free version did not cover income from 1099 forms until the very end, even though this information was entered in the beginning of the data entry and import processes. I have been a TurboTax customer since at least 2010 with saved PDF files to prove it but received no assist from TurboTax after two calls to their customer service line. I deleted my online TurboTax return and instead are going with an IRS recommended free tax software vendor. TurboTax just lost a lifetime customer.

I've been using TurboTax since the early 2000s to do my taxes and I never had problems with them - until these last few years. Originally it was a great value - $10 to file your state taxes and $0 to file federal. They imported your previous years' returns (from within their own system) for free and you could get it done quickly. This year, I got hit up by a total of $100 in fees, one of which didn't even appear in the itemized list until the final "file now" button.

I'm a person making below-minimum wage earnings. There is no reason I should be paying $100 to file my taxes when I'm not even making $20000 a year. I am unemployed at the moment and have no savings to speak of, so paying with my return was always my option in previous years, but now it costs $40 to do that as well. Overall, I think the product itself (the tax software) is pretty great. But the way they tack on hidden fees now and prevent you from backing out of them is really insulting and shady. I'll be going to an actual tax preparer next year as it will surely be cheaper than "Free."

Before filing, I received an email stating if I filed within the following 48 hours, I would receive 50% off. I went back to my account (opening it from my computer browser), entered my credit card info, and hit "pay," expecting the 50% discount would come up before I was actually charged. However, I was charged full price. When I called to ask how I can be reimbursed, they told me since I was already charged, there is no way to give me the 50% back, and that to receive the discount, I should've opened the page via the email I received. Now, I had double checked the email several times before hitting the "pay" button looking for some sort of coupon code or indication how the discount would be applied. It said nothing so I assumed it would be applied at the final checkout -- BUT IT WASN'T.

After waiting on hold to speak to a supervisor for about 20 mins, the representative said someone would call me back within the hour. Of course, no one did. Upon reading reviews (after the fact), it seems this is their MO. I am beyond angry. I chose one of the premium service options specifically because I expected a 50% discount at the end. I ended up paying close to $300 -- in hindsight, I should've saved myself the aggravation and just hired an accountant. It would've been so much easier and probably cheaper. Been doing my taxes with Turbo Tax since 2006. They were always fine before this year. Fortunately I happen to be in the US this year because I would be so screwed if I wasn’t. For the first time ever, I am unable to e-file. I have no job, do not own anything anymore, have no insurance, basically, I have nothing; I worked my butt off in this country my whole life to end up with nothing. I’m too young to retire but nobody wants to hire me as I’m over 50. Went through the same useless nonsensical motions numerous times as instructed by the program, and then the help, with none of the help being any help whatsoever; why am I surprised, never needed help before and I’d already tried everything suggested several times before bothering to waste time with help.

The system did not generate my 1040EZ to print, so I can mail it in. It tells me I do not meet minimum filing requirements and bumps me to “review” and when I hit review it tells me I do not meet minimum filing requirements. Endless loop. System generates a 15-page printout that states “federal tax form to mail is included in this printout” - NO, it is not. It doesn’t matter how often I regenerate it, it doesn’t magically appear. System walks me through kick-starting the program which I had already done (basic tech support) and did again several times, nothing. I started doing my taxes out of town without a printer three weeks ago and quit out of frustration and lack of time, still nothing is working. My driver's license is expired and I have no state ID, dumping me in another endless loop insisting I provide something I do not have after checking that I don’t have it.

I have a passport but that doesn’t count. My expired license is ignored. I have my state return, and that printed, and it printed out all the federal worksheets - WHY can’t it generate the 1040 from what it has?!? After logging in for the hundredth time it says something like “federal FILED state FILED” what do you want to do? NO, you stupid piece of junk, you didn’t file squat. And there’s STILL nothing to print.

Good thing I did not wait till the last minute like I always have and good thing I’m in the country so I can get a ride to the library to get the bloody tax forms so I can do my taxes by hand so I can mail them in. I might actually not need to file as I have suffered from unemployment for five years but I want everything to be clean and clear with the feds. AND FOR ALL THIS NOTHING I PAID TURBOTAX $70 which I can’t get back. Oh, and the app is crap also - don’t bother. Another good thing ruined by greed and sheer incompetence. Stay away, or do as another reviewer stated - pick another partner from irs.gov.

I had already done taxes on paper but wanted to try to avoid mailing as I send certified so IRS can't say they didn't receive it. Then Turbo Tax failed to calculate additional tax I owed for making greater than $25K this year. As a single person who took social security early I am not allowed to make more than the $25K. If I do, the difference is taxable. Turbo Tax does not even have a line for this to be calculated in their system. So that's another error. I talked to a rep and all she could say was that it was a system "glitch". I will never use them again and will be mailing my return.

God help them if I see anything deducted from my bank account. The system will not allow me to delete what I have done so far. It also kept saying that the EIN# from one of my W2's was incomplete. It would not allow me to input the additional digit and kept removing it. It did not tell me all of this until I got to the very end (Fed return + 2 state returns) whereupon it would not allow me to complete. Rep couldn't help with this either. 3 hours of this nonsense and at the end couldn't complete. Just as well. Numbers wrong anyway. Use these people at your own peril. You don't want the IRS after you and the state because their info feeds off the Fed info. No one needs that kind of aggravation.

When someone finally answered I let her know that I had been on hold for 26 minutes and would really appreciate help. Finally I let her know that I hadn't received my return, and she said "I'm going to cut you off. Are you trying to contact Turbo Tax?" And I said, "Yes, but what is the difference between inquiries for Turbo Tax and Intuit?"

She didn't answer my question, but just said that Intuit is connected with TurboTax. She then said she was going to give me a number to call, I asked her if someone would actually answer the phone, and she said yes. Well, guess what. I live in the US and she gave the number for TurboTax Canada, which no one also answers, but I got to listen to a brief message in French with a Canadian robot accent. Thanks. So much help. Seriously, don't waste your time. Please, either don't have a business, or hire employees to answer the phone. Maybe even a half-person to at least answer online inquiries. Very frustrating.

I was using TurboTax's online software to file a tax return when I came to an impasse - I needed to ask a question to verify I was proceeding correctly. I programmed in my question and callback number and they called back right away. Well, the agent on the line Lood (denoted as a "specialist") had no idea what I was asking about and kept repeating back my questions incorrectly. She continued to ask the same questions over and over again despite my responses being unchanged. It was apparent she had no knowledge of how to prepare or file tax returns. She was typing in my questions to a chat with another agent there who she called the "specialist".

After 50 minutes of this back and forth with my ONE question remaining unanswered, I asked to speak to a manager. She told me she was transferring me, however took 10 minutes to actually do so, leaving the call in dead air until she finally put through the transfer. I had to ask several times what was going on. It has now been an additional 33 minutes (so, total of 43 minutes) that I've been waiting for the supervisor to come on the line but still nothing. Don't waste your time. I used TurboTax last year and was pleased. I had never tried them before because I preferred to use an accountant. This year they completely messed up my return and I’ve had to file an amendment. And I had to pay over $100 for that. When I clicked the button to submit, for some reason it subtracted my EITC and left me with 1/4 the amount owed back to me on my return!! I spent many hours trying to reach them, speaking to employees that had no clue what they were talking about, and a downright rude employee that left me confused and angry. Some employees claimed to not know what I was talking about, and one told me that it has happened to others as well. They’ve offered zero to me to rectify my situation, and now my refund is delayed a minimum of 16 weeks. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.

Because I filed my taxes a year late I was unable to complete my 2016 taxes online with TurboTax. I paid about 100$ to download the 2016 Desktop App for Mac and completed my taxes, printed them and prepared to send them. I then went online to complete my 2017 taxes. In order to begin my 2017 taxes, I needed 2016 tax information to be uploaded, however, there is no option to create a .tax file, which is the only file format accepted by TurboTax. After spending over 2 hours on the phone with 2 different representatives my problem was not solved and it became clear that there was no option to create a .tax file in the desktop app.

The rep told me that someone of greater rank would follow up with me in the coming days however no one followed up with me. If a user uploads a .tax file from a previous year after starting their taxes for the current year the current years' information will be deleted. I now need to manually enter my 2016 tax information which as an independent artist business owner is rather complex and time-consuming. I have generally been pretty happy with TurboTax, however, this glaring hole in their products has caused me to lose a great deal of faith in a company that I thought was organized, trustworthy and competent.

Bought their premium disk with state included. After entering all the tax information the software began to crash. When I finally got to state forms I ended up in a do loop I could not get past. I went to their online version...which means I’m buying their service all over again. I had what I thought was a simple question so I contacted customer support. First person that calls you back knows absolutely nothing. I mean nothing. So I wait for someone to call me back that theoretically knows something. 15 minutes later they call.. this next person doesn’t know anything either and proceeds to try to communicate my problem to this “chat group” where all sources of knowledge exist.

Well, he apparently can’t communicate question very well because he is not getting an answers, BUT during the time I’m waiting he proceeds to tell me all his tales of woe regarding medical issues his son has and that he has no insurance and the son lives with him, but they just had to move from a bug infested apartment. This is Dallas. This goes on for 10 minutes with no results from all the smart people and he then wants to transfer me to “tier 2 support,” which I guess is supposed to be smarter, but I’ve had enough by now and have decided I have a work around and will just use my solution. TurboTax sends me an email with a survey wanting to know how their support works, but of course the link in the survey doesn’t work...you just get the old spinning wheel. If my service was that bad I wouldn’t want a survey link to work either.

Well, I finally work my way all the way through and get ready to pay $164.97 for this fine product. You can either give them $40 more to take the payment out of your refund or use a credit card. I decide I’ll use the card. Just like last year, when I put my name in, which starts with an initial only, it doesn’t like it...just like last year. One might have thought to fix this bug once they were advised of it last year. So, I’m back to calling support again. Just like the first time, the first person knows nothing and she tells me it is not her job to know anything, which begs the question why have someone call you back that has no ability to do anything but transfer you to someone else.

Well today’s wait for the next brilliant person to call is now 27 minutes. Again, I know how we fixed the problem last year, but I need to talk to someone who has the ability to do something. Hopefully the next person is having a better personal life than the one yesterday. Probably time to go to a CPA next year. These guys are pathetic from top to bottom.

TURBOTAX for 2017 - Stunning how bad TurboTax is, especially for a US citizen (also a Canadian citizen) trying to complete his US federal return online, and then, with a locally bought CD, the returns for Canada federal and my province. Somehow, I got it all done last year with TurboTax. This year, nothing but frustration. Is it the fault of bad management, incompetent programmers, too few computer banks, make-believe "help," conniving bean counters, absurd security?

All of the above, judging by the comments of other reviewers. If you forsake work already done because Turbo can't find it and you try to start over, you'll be blocked again. Switch computer as a solution, and there will be more insurmountable hurdles. Finally you will realize it's not you or your computer that's at fault: it's Turbo. As for Turbo's avenues of "help," they were mapped out by Kafka. You've been warned...by 2 thousand people and counting right here, angry consumers willing to go through the registration drill just to vent and alert you about the TurboTax con.

After looking over reviews this is a common bait and switch tactic. Your return will get rejected until you pay. If I had known that from the start I might have just gone to a real professional and got my taxes prepared for less. I love Mint, and after buying a house 8 years ago, TurboTax was a very helpful product. But my experience this year has left me angry enough to leave this review and likely searching for an alternative next year. My main complaint is that Intuit is not upfront about the fees. This year it cost me $164 to file my taxes, and I still have to mail my state tax filing myself. $45 dollars of that was a product called "Premium Services Benefits". It tacks on when you select pay out of my federal refund, although it won't quote a price for the service. Merely unchecking that option and paying with a credit card will not remove that add on. Intuit's knowledge base gives instructions on how to remove the add on from your order summary page. But you won't see this page if you hop back on the prompts to change to the credit card option.

Searching about this service, which I did so I can find out what I paid for and take advantage of what I've bought brings up only complaints about the service add-on. It indicates to me that the company isn't even acting in good faith to provide a viable product. It's about on the same level as that dealer clear coat spray for $1,000 that car salesmen kill to sell you. The point of using TurboTax is for the ease of use, accuracy, not having to deal with paper returns and rapid processing of refund if entitled. This kind of tack on just negates that and kills more time trying to figure out how to rectify the situation, hence why I will be looking somewhere else next year. In the end the value is just not there and it's pretty clear when the company resorts to these kinds of tactics to sell their product.

When we started to do our taxes in the "free" version, I logged in with my password, since we had used TurboTax last year. It imported a bunch of info from last year. Then I choose "free" and it deleted all of that information. So I entered all of that plus all of the income data and interest ( a couple of hours). It goes through a review and it comes to a window that says you have to use the long form 1040, for $49.99 but doesn't tell you why (had to Google search it). It turns out that I'm married and because we were going to file separately we needed another form. So we decided to go ahead and file jointly.

If I knew ahead of time I wouldn't have entered everything by hand or we would have just filed jointly to start with. So... we filled out all of the stuff for filing jointly (another couple of hours) and ran through the checks for Federal and State. Everything looks good, but suddenly we are being charged the $80+ and we are in the deluxe version, and we can't finish for free. We feel like they are holding our information hostage. There is no reason we should have to pay. But the only way out would be to start over and reenter all of the data. They should have a set of questions at the start to let you know if you need to do the long form, rather than at the end of hours of work. It is a bait and switch program. TurboTax never again.

My customer service experience this year is much worse from the good service I received in past years. I paid more this year for the application that provides the most online help, because I have a slightly more complicated tax return. The 1st page (Income) of my online tax return has 3 obvious problems. There are 2 columns of data, last year 2016 and this year 2017. (1) My capital loss carryover shows the same exact amount for 2016 (history) as for 2017. This is obviously wrong. (2) My Social Security income for 2016 is blank. Obviously wrong. (3) My rental Income for 2016 is blank. Obviously wrong.

My Turbotax telephone help was worthless. I was told she didn't know why the numbers weren't right, but I shouldn't worry about those issues. I was shocked by this response and asked that she follow up to get this problem fixed. I was told that I should talk to another department - they'd probably be more responsive to me. Then I asked to talk to her supervisor. She said she couldn't do that and said goodbye. I received no email summary of our talk.

On a different issue, I previous did get an email summary. I searched for a way to email TurboTax with my complaint. Apparently TurboTax has discontinued email communications with customers - to protect themselves? No way to escalate problems now. No documented trail of customer communication. In a previous year I paid extra only when I needed extra help. That worked well. One time a TurboTax customer support person made a mistake when answering my question. My email summary from TurboTax helped me get this resolved through escalation. Not only did I get an email of confirming the error, I got the right answer for free. TurboTax customer service has really deteriorated.

I completed my tax return this morning, thinking that I would take advantage of the TurboTax® Absolute Zero® offer. According to the company "over 60 million Americans have the ability to file their federal 1040A or 1040EZ returns, as well as their state tax returns, for absolutely $0" until March 15. I have a simple return that took me no more than 30 minutes to complete.

By time I was done, I had incurred a cost of almost $100. In addition to having to bump up to TurboTax Deluxe ($54.99), I was charged a $39.99 fee for choosing to pay the TurboTax fee with my refund. (Read the fine print closely, especially after you read all their hype about simplifying the process by choosing this route.) I am extremely disappointed that Intuit made it so difficult to understand the fee before I submitted my return. I could easily have covered the fee with my debit card. In any case, I will not be using TurboTax in the future. Seems like a lot of "bait and switch" tactics are in place.

BUT, TurboTax Premiere doesn't have a form to distinguish the fact that I pay 100% of his care and claim him except for the $20 per month she pays for his Obamacare. Now, my refund is hung up at the IRS and I have to call them to discuss the issue and fill out a form before I get my refund in approximately 6 to 8 weeks instead of this week like I should have. TurboTax failed me BIG TIME. NEVER AGAIN TurboTax!

I purchased TurboTax Deluxe in February 2018 to do our tax returns. There is a glitch with this program in that it continually wanted employer information but my husband and I are retired as of 5 and 6 years ago, so couldn't provide that. Unable to efile after filling in all the information due to this "employer" issue that could not be fixed. So ended up printing my returns (Fed & State) and then mailing them in but was charged $24.99 apparently just for the program to figure the state return. Already paid plenty for the Deluxe program that I purchased and resent having to pay the additional $24.99 for basically nothing. Used TurboTax years ago for many years until the last five years when had a CPA do our taxes. Decided this year I could use TurboTax again but am extremely disappointed in TurboTax and would never recommend it. WILL NOT EVER USE TURBOTAX PROGRAMS AGAIN AND WOULD SUGGEST YOU PURCHASE SOMETHING ELSE.

They have had my refund since the 22nd of February. It is now the 10 of March and I have to wait until the 14th to hopefully get access to my funds. In the meantime my power has been shut off. My landlord is evicting me and my 3 kids and grandson. I was injured so I can't work at the moment. All these things I explained to the people on the phone which is almost impossible to actually get a human on the line. And all I get is the same scripted responses and verbal masturbation. They can't give me access to my funds and then we aren't in control.

Then they tell me they are going to FedEx me a card so when I ask for the tracking number they tell me they didn't get one. I asked for the card number and they say they only know the last 4. So I ask them to transfer from my account to a different card. Again they can't do that so I asked if they can give me access so I can yet again. They can't do that either. I have been a TurboTax customer for 15 years and have seen the product get progressively better and better and especially for the past 10 years it has been so easy to use. The greatest feature was that TT provided help to the customer ON SCREEN right at the point in your taxes where you were stuck. Questions were answered in minutes and then you were done and on your way. And most of time, you didn't even need that help because the makers had created such good popup explanations and each page was so logical.

SO WHAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR? It's just like it is a different company and whomever revised it from last year hates customers and wants to punish them every step of the way. My taxes are easier than ever before and yet I could not get any help on one 1099-R item AND many, many of the pages were just a mess. They force the customer to either "ask the community," which means someone out there may or may not post a reply, and then the 'answer' is whatever that person thinks it should be. In other words, "Ask the Community" is just a shot in the dark. Your other choice is to PAY for this thing called "Expert Help."

I was SO desperate that I finally went to BUY the "Expert Help" that is an extra $60. Nowhere does TT inform the customer that they will ONLY offer you TELEPHONE help (live help is supposed to mean your choice of CHAT or phone) until AFTER you pay. I am hearing impaired. I then went through over two hours of searching the web to try to find a way to contact TT to tell them to reverse that charge and that they were false advertising AND that they were not ADA Compliant. Nowhere on the web is there any info about how to contact TT or Intuit except via telephone. And hearing damaged people do NOT have to own a TT in order to get help.

Hours later, out of complete desperation, I telephoned and informed the CSR that this was a one-way conversation and she needed to listen and take action via email with me. I can hear about every 3rd word so I caught enough to know she was refusing to help and she kept talking at me even though I continued to state she was not going to be able to have a two-way conversation and to please email me.

Sometime later, very much to my relief, someone at TT must have decided that they needed to step up to this problem. An email was sent telling me the charge was reversed and also that I could press and hold the Shift key and then press Enter on my keyboard and I would somehow enable an agent to be able to view my screen (so it's a kind of remote session). Those were the only instructions and even though the sender did not tell me to log into my TT account, seems like that must be required. I will try that later.

And all the reports about how they are trying to trick the customer into having to spend another $39.99 to have the TT fee taken out of the refund? Exactly correct. I read all their web pages over and over and over and could not determine that I was about to be billed until I arrived at the very last page where the "buy" button was. So long story short - something is really, really wrong with TurboTax starting for the 2017 tax year. I see many customers have stated the same thing. Sadly, I will now have to find another online service.

I have come to find out that this is not an uncommon problem in their software, therefore if you do not want to have to repeat completing (think of the hours of work!) and filing your taxes DO NOT USE TURBOTAX.

What is a little shady in my opinion is that the version I purchased claims to have one state return included, but as soon as you go to file it there is a $39.99 fee that magically appears. Customer service stated that yes there is one return included but the filing is charged upon completion. If you put the purchase price and the hidden fee together you may as well ask a pro to do your taxes for you for around $200 and not waste a Sunday afternoon. I would think that TurboTax would be better served as a company to be upfront with the costs so its customers can make an informed decision. I will not be a repeat customer.

The sneakiest thing they do is add a $40 charge if you deduct their fees from your refund. It used to be free but now they just put the charge in there at the last minute hoping you won't notice. They are also sneaky in the way that practically every other page is an offer for an upgrade and is designed in such a way as to make you search around for the button that says "no I don't want this". I've used TurboTax for at least 10 years and always been satisfied but I found this year's version to be awful. Maybe because I used it online instead of downloading(?) I have no clue if that would have made a difference, but it was absolutely ridiculous trying to navigate back to sections; there was no clear path and if I found something it was through sheer luck. In addition, I paid extra because I sold my condo in 2017 and thought I might need extra help, but no extra help was to be found: I live overseas and have a different phone number format which could not be entered into the necessary field to contact the agent.

All in all I think I paid a whopping $267 to TurboTax for the "pleasure" of using their product yet my Federal taxes due were only $36 and I owed nothing on State. Oh--and then when they sent a questionnaire to find out how the experience was, they only ask one question. Ridiculous. I will continue to use TT but next year I'm not working from the online version.

I wondered if I could open last years file and maybe use it with only the changes for this year. When I opened last year's file I was THEN prompted that they could not open it but asked If I wanted to transfer the information, which I did. As has been happening, my itemized deductions were more than the standard deduction. But now TurboTax is telling me that they are using the standard deduction instead. I have looked at the forms it creates and have found several discrepancies. I cannot change it manually and I am afraid my return will be messed up. Maybe I will just do it manually this year and see what I can do to get a refund.

I elected to use the TurboTax Deluxe feature that was advertised as $39.99. I confirmed and agreed to pay that amount ($39.99) throughout my tax preparation online steps. However, at the very last step of me filing the tax return it said in very fine print an "additional $39.99 for refund processing fees! This fee was not very clearly labeled or explained as being DIFFERENT from the deluxe fee which is conveniently the exact same amount ($39.99) to deceive people into thinking they are once again only agreeing to pay a total of $39.99.

On the last page right before I clicked submit, it showed me a TOTAL of $42.63 ($39.99+tax; I have screenshots) to file my taxes. I agreed and clicked submit. AFTER my taxes were filed, I was shown an order summary that stated my refund will be deducted by $79.98 plus applicable sales tax. This new amount was never shown to me nor did I ever agree to pay this.

When I called customer service to clarify, the manager herself told me she only sees a charge of $42.63 for my account. However, I shared my screen with her and told her that on ANOTHER page, the Order Summary page, I was being deducted by $79.98+sales tax. And she said, "Yeah that's another 3rd party fee. We don't have anything to do with that." I was so frustrated after spending 2 hours getting through their customer service automated lines that the manager herself, candidly, was going in circles trying to explain the charges to me. I told her, "You cannot tell someone a TOTAL amount and then show them a different TOTAL amount after they have purchased. That's wrong and illegal." She kept going in circles. I'm very dissatisfied with TurboTax and would NOT recommend anyone to use their services ever. They charge you hidden fees after you submit your taxes and don't clarify charges or do refunds.

It appears, TurboTax continually recommends that you upgrade from a free tax filing to a paid package as you move along the process. They accomplish this by asking you a series financially related questions, then suggest the appropriate upgrade process for you (spouse included). I also understand that TurboTax is profit based company and their primary goal is to make a profit not provide charitable filing. That's ok. The problem is that TurboTax doesn't tell you about all the hidden fees at the end. Then they only give you an upfront package price, that's it. All other fees associated with upgrade filing are introduced at the end of the filing process.

However, at this time there is no way of backing out of the current process without starting your return over again. This creates a problem for customers who change their minds and wish to use a the FREE filing process. In order to use the FREE process all your (spouse included) pertinent information will have to be reentered manually. This includes W-2, SS#, child information, deductions, bank account information, and so on and so forth. This usually discourages customers from starting over and pushes them to complete the current process. It seems deceptive and dishonest, and unethical to say the least, to manipulate customers into a process for profit situation. I guess it makes sense if you're a company like big oil. But, to profit on the people's stress at tax time, shame on you.

I have just gone through (excuse me, still going through) what has been the worst customer experience I have ever been a part of with ANY company in my entire life. For starters, when you call into a company asking for assistance, to have an automated message system that forces you to hang up and have the company call YOU BACK is absolutely absurd when it comes to completing your taxes. This causes a HUGE inconvenience to the customer, who will most likely be working during the day or running errands, and is not constantly in front of their computer, looking at their taxes. As a result, when TurboTax calls you back at some random time within the stated 24-72 hour window (they do not schedule with you a phone meeting, or even give you an approximation as to when they will call you back), you are most likely not prepared to talk, which then causes you to begin the repetitive cycle of playing phone tag with the company.

Secondly, when a specialist gets on the phone with you, they provide very little assistance, and if you try to escalate it to a supervisor or manager, they state that there are none available, and AGAIN give you the 24-72 hour window of when a manager will call you back. Lastly, if you choose the wrong TurboTax program by accident, you must start your taxes completely over. This seems absolutely unnecessary, as all you are doing is changing your pricing package with TurboTax, while your filings remain the same. This is how the whole process got started and I am now on day 5, simply to speak to a tax specialist who can help me answer my simple question.

I had to pay 39.99 on my federal, 36.99 on my state then 39.99 to have the money extracted from my refund. Why the ** am I paying them to take money out of my ** refund? Not only am I forced to take an option that I never asked for, but now, you want me to pay you to take money from the money I am supposed to get back?? This year I filed with Turbo Tax. Last year I filed with H&R Block. They faxed copies of all documents and I received a refund in a very short period of time. The year before this I used Turbo Tax. This is the problem I have had and are having using Turbo Tax. I received a letter from the IRS both times just about the time I should have received my refund. Each time it is due to the fact that the forms to file EZ thru TTax don't get sent with the completed tax return. This time I filed a longer version since I had additional income. Once again, no forms required to be sent in this year. Now I am going to have to wait for at least three to four months for my refund just as I did the first time I used Turbo Tax.

I should have gone back to H&R Block. I live off of SSD and use my refund to get ahead on my rent. The first time I lost my place and was on the streets till I found a by the week motel. Might happen again. Turbo Tax, you need to change your submission requirements. The year before I used you the first time, I went to a senior center and they faxed all documents. Got my refund in a normal time. Never using this again. I don't want to sleep on the streets again. I even paid double for the service this year.

Beware - when you use the basic Intuit TurboTax product -- despite all the wordy BS about getting your best refund, your filing is still considered "self-prepared." Also - don't fall for the "file your federal and state taxes for free." I chose this product because it was guaranteed free if your filing isn't complicated. Mine isn't complicated - single, W2s = 1040EZ. I called customer service and they explained that if you call them BEFORE you accept the fee that pops up even though it clearly shouldn't, they will waive it. So burn up their phones before you agree. To top it all off, I now have to verify my identity with the IRS by producing 2016 tax documents as well as 2017. After it's verified that I am actually me -- I will not receive a return for 9 weeks. Nine weeks!

I've had it with advertising that requires you to go on a mental scavenger hunt in order to find all their cons and glossed over lies. I could have gone to one of the many overpriced tax preparation services and gotten the shaft in person. The only lighter side to this tale of consumer insult is that they won't get paid until I get paid. Business is no longer about customer satisfaction. It's about duping the customer so the companies can turn a great profit despite crappy service and or product. Change the laws to protect the consumers. We will still buy, but at very least these companies will be forced to apply some ethics. Buyer beware has become buyer be scared. Really.

However, when my money was deposited, I discovered they took $80 out. I immediately contacted them. After many long on hold for hours calls & bogus email addresses, I tried the call back method.

After telling the person what happened, he said they are a partner company that charges 39.99 to have the service attached to my refund & their fee was in addition to the filing fee from TurboTax of 39.99. How convenient! So slick Intuit! Great marketing skills! They slid that same amount in front of me, knowing I would think it was the one and only original charge. Updated on 02/26/2018: This is an update to my previous review on 2/23. Come to find out that I won’t be getting a refund of $39.98 because you have to pay $19.99 when you eFile your state taxes in addition to the $39.98 for each state. What they don’t tell you is you get 1 free state with the Deluxe package but if you chose to eFile that free state it will cost you an additional $19.99. In my case I had to purchase another state (had to file in 2 different states), went to eFile. Both got prompted to pay another $39.98. I called TurboTax customer service. Told me to press transmit. I won’t get charged again but I did. I was then told a refund will be processed for the 2nd charge. Two days later I’m being told that the 2nd charge was valid after all since you have to PAY to eFile your state. PRINT your state return out people and mail them. Don’t fall for their antics! I’m so over TurboTax!

I called Customer Service to request a CD or download. A robot answered and sent me in circles. After calling four times, I finally got a person on the phone who said I must pay first to get the download. I told her I had paid in November 2017. She told me she cannot access the records and I had to provide more information. I insisted that she find the records, after about fifteen minutes she told me to log in to my account. I was required to provide the same information that I had given her. At 10:30 pm, after a few attempts and still not having the download, I logged off. Yesterday, I called TurboTax and requested a refund. I was told it would take 2-3 weeks before I can get my money. It took 1 click in November 2017 for them to take my money instantly.

Today, I got an email from TurboTax that $109.99 will be deposited into my account and that I will see it in my next statement which is in about 3 weeks. I paid $117.55. I hope they return the tax charged. Buying directly online from TurboTax is no deal. Automatic Renewals is no deal and just another way for them to rip you off. Today, I bought the same software from Staples for $69.99 after price matching. I also had coupons, my final price was $ 47.00. I have been dealing with Intuit for more than 25 years, when Intuit was Parson Technology. I will no longer do business with them and look for an alternative next season.

When starting to prepare my taxes for 2017 earlier this month I contacted Intuit-TurboTax. I agreed to their $149 charge while, at the same time, I asked them first in writing and then again when speaking to their live expert (via Skype) if there would be any further fees, charges, expenses - beyond the $149 - I was told NO.

That same conversation lead to the completion of my taxes and I owed the IRS $1,570. The expert asked for the $149 whereupon I gave him my credit card information. I then asked him if I could pay my taxes owed at that time with my card. He said he didn't know, putting me on hold. He came back a moment later and told me yes I could. A couple of days later I noticed a charge of $39.29 on my card linked to ''tax preparation". I called Intuit - TurboTax about it - they were baffled. I then called the company listed with the charge and they said ''...TurboTax hired them to act a go-between (IRS doesn't allow credit card payment) after which they'd split the $39.29 fee." I called Intuit-TurboTax to confront them - guess what - they couldn't believe what I was telling them - lol (they have since stopped taking my calls). I'd much rather spend $0.47 for a stamp when paying my taxes than have Intuit-TurboTax cheat me out of $40.

They will tell you that you have an offset on your taxes and give you no more $450.00. I called DOR, Department of Treasury and the IRS, they both informed me that I have no Offset on my taxes. TurboTax partners (TPG) are crooks along with them, they are the one that receives your taxes and deposit them into your bank account. But they don't give you all of your taxes, they $400-$450 and keep the rest and just tell you that you have an offset on the rest of your remaining taxes. I will never use TurboTax ever again. I will file straight through the IRS for free for now on, even the IRS recommends me to do that for now on, starting next year. Even they said that they get calls all the time against TurboTax. So don't use TurboTax if you want your full refund. They are helping me get the rest of mine.

I’ve been filing my own taxes with TurboTax for a few years and has always been fast and easy. I was ok with paying roughly $40. This year however was an absolute joke. I initially only filed my Federal separately and authorized a deduction from my return and was going to be $39. I filed my state a week later and the amount of times it kept redirecting me to file using the “Deluxe“ service was ridiculous and unfortunately I must have clicked approval as I was charged the $39.99 Deluxe AS WELL AS $36.99 basic filing. I paid for my state filing via Apple Pay as I could not use a deduction option.

When I received my federal return I noticed a $79.98 deduction. So I basically was charged a total of $150 this year. I called and asked why I was charged again and was told there was nothing they could do as I had used the service. This year also I researched about filing and claiming child care credit without claiming the child and answers showed it was allowable. Once filed come to find out it is NOT allowed and now I need to send an amended filing to correct my taxes. This year has been so frustrating. Unfortunately will no longer use this service. This product has gone downhill. Be careful as you will overpay for what is supposed to be “free and easy“.

For the past several years, I've been using TaxAct... inexpensive, easy to use and follow and it's done the job for me. I'd been paying for a Deluxe version all those years. This year I decided to try something different, and landed on TurboTax. This was due in part, to the fact that I'd been a member of Mint, an associated product of Intuit, an excellent one at that (also, because it was free). Shortly after logging in for the 1st time, I opted for the enhanced service: 24/7 Tax Return access, Specialist Support and Docs Storage. I found $19.99 to be a very fair price for these nice add-ons.

The Process was simple, easy to follow and excellent all around. Filing? Even easier than that. My particular case is somewhere between "standard" and "difficult". In addition to more than one W2, also had some 1099s, mortgage, property taxes & a few other layers of complexity. I've seen some negative reviews here, I don't understand them. I'm no smarter than the average bear out there, yet for me, TurboTax online was fun, easy, and excellent. I would encourage others to opt for the $19.99 upgrade and enjoy the benefits (and cheap piece of mind) it provides. So yes, I'll be using TurboTax again next year. It'll be even easier then, as I've got this year's returns and all data/info in my "docs" file to pull from. These guys have my strong recommendation.

After calling customer service, the woman I talked to said there is nothing she can do and I would have to erase my entire return and start over, that's the only option if you upgrade and change your mind or you upgrade by accident.

I will no longer be using TurboTax because they basically force their customers to admit defeat and pay the mark up they don't want, rather than putting in all of their information again. I don't give my money to businesses like this, I don't appreciate how hard it is to change what you're paying for or change what you need from their program. It's a racket. A TurboTax "customer expert" called me at 2:42 pm on February 18, 2018 to help review my tax information to confirm my current year tax liability was accurate. The TurboTax expert had difficulty spelling my last name (a 6 letter name). The next difficulty was getting my email address correct - even after telling her it was my first and last name@gmail.com.

Finally, I got to the reason for the call which is an expert review of my tax form to ensure I completed it correctly. She asked where I am filing to which I replied online and she laughed at that. Her response at some point, was "of course your liability should be higher since you earn more this year.” To which I responded that, “I knew that; I understand tax liability is generally proportional to income - it was not the reason for seeking tax advice.” Her tone was rude, dismissive and very condescending. After 9 minutes, I hung up because the call was unproductive, pointless and was generally offensive to me.

As I was writing this complaint, a TurboTax advert was running on my TV. The ad was promoting how helpful and professional the TurboTax experts are. Why spend so much on TV advertisements without bothering to train your "experts” on professionalism and basic courtesy? I am already looking for an alternative to TurboTax and will actively discourage my friends and colleagues from using the service. It makes no sense to pay to be laughed at.

I paid them 80$ this year. However, the family that I referred to TurboTax use the free version and get their refund EARLY. And I can't get ahold of anyone to ask about why my funds are held up every year.

Paying for Premium product which saves all previous years' tax returns for me and incorporates info from those when doing current year returns. Alarmingly, Turbotax numbers this year (2018) for my 2016 return filed in 2017 are randomly different! They have my state tax amount I paid as different than what I actually filed and they calculated last year for that return. Also, they have Education credits as a different number now than what was actually filed and what they calculated last year. When I called to inquire, they blamed "Mr. Donald Trump" and "his tax reform". They said glitches are expected but not to worry; trust them; "all will be okay".

They blamed IRS for still implementing changes to the 2017 taxes, making it difficult to have all the correct forms available (not true and wouldn't be relevant to my issue). Offered no solution. I asked for supervisor to call me back because the wait was getting too long to have them talk to me; never got a callback but did get an email saying my case was closed. I cannot trust them to do my taxes for 2017 if they can't keep a simple file of the work they did on 2016 return. Am going to H&R Block.

TT has always easily found the 1099's for both my IRA and personal investment accounts, with just the broker's name and account number. This year the personal account is OK, but entering the account number for the IRA (and the document ID) results in a "bad login". I have the 1099's but choose not to begin keying the info, since I paid Intuit to do it again this year. It appears that Intuit has no support and if you search for it, you'll most likely reach some sleazy character with a very heavy accent, like I experienced when seeking Malwarebytes support. That was a dangerous situation. It seems that TurboTax this year is mostly a big mess! Each year since 2004 until now I easily had my return completed and filed in less than 90 minutes. I am so disappointed in '18.

Later, I received an email from them saying rejected internally. I was on the phone for 2.5 hours on a Saturday, they lied several times, said the IRS rejected it, then I asked to speak to a supervisor. Waited longer, she admitted it never went to the IRS. They tried to get me to file by mail instead with an amount on the return dropped for no apparent reason. The supervisor said she was going to transfer me over to the financial side of TurboTax to resolve the issue??? They transferred me by hanging up after waiting that long. I couldn’t file if I wanted to because of an internal issue with their software, they refused to refund my 40.00. Never again will I custom them. Done with them entirely. I also warned them about how they treat their customers. DO NOT USE. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I recently filed my taxes using TurboTax which I have used since 2014. I spent about 4 hours filling out the form, checking and rechecking the info. It then took me almost an hour to read through all of the information for finishing up & eFiling both Federal & State Tax. I used to mail the PA tax form but because of all of the identity crimes, I eFiled the last 2 years & spent the $19.95 which I thought were fees dictated by PA. TurboTax does not explain why there is a 19.95 charge and trying to reach them on the phone is futile.

Today I decided to check the PA.Gov website to see exactly how they described the fee. Lo & behold, I found that there was NO charge for eFiling! I called my credit card company and disputed the TurboTax charge as deceptive charges. The dispute was granted. SO lessons learned: Check to see if your state charges for eFiling. You too will probably find that you can eFile for free on your state's website. If you already paid deceptive charges, try to file a dispute with your CC company. Consider using another Tax program as I will do next year. By the way, TurboTax has no record of my 2016 tax file even though I did use it. Also, I could not transfer records from Its Deductible.

Not only did I not need to pay 19.99 it also prompted me to pay 39.99 for a processor fee. It said because I bought the 19.99 version and opted to have it taken out of my federal refund, my only option was to pay a processor fee or do it by mail. So much for free! I should have cancelled the whole thing and started over elsewhere. But by then it was already a long and tedious process. I'm a 25 year old Software Engineer who has seen his fair share of misleading marketing for software, but TurboTax takes the cake. This is the second and last year that I have been duped by them. Spent the time to fill out my taxes, only to get to the very end to find all these surprise fees just to file one extra form. I filed with Credit Karma Tax (for free) and received the exact same tax refund as I would have with TurboTax. They were very upfront about which forms they supported and which they did not.

My experience with the actual service (filling out/submitting taxes) is positive. The payments page is deceptive. Filing Federal taxes is supposed to be free, you only pay for state. When you get to the payments page they offer you 2 choices, Deluxe and an enhanced service which costs even more. The page is setup to look like you must accept one. Thinking Deluxe (cheapest option) is the basic one I choose that, only to be billed for both State and Federal.

After discussing the charge with customer support, it seems you can bypass that page by hitting 'next', but it is not obvious you can do that, page designed to look like you must choose one of the 2 payment options. The customer support rep said since I didn't use any of the advanced features and the selection was made in error (once I pointed out that yes it's my fault, but the page is deceptive on purpose), they would credit me the 'Deluxe' portion I didn't use. I was satisfied with the resolution.

Two days later I receive an email that they are NOT giving me the refund that the customer service agent confirmed I was getting. I understand the mistake was mine, but I do not appreciate their deceptive website which is designed in a way to fool people into thinking they are picking the basic option which should be the free Federal file. The worst part is their customer service agent saying I will get a refund, then denying the refund a few days later hoping I won't notice. Nice tool but deceitful and unethical company.

I've used TurboTax for a number of years, but this year will be my last. I guess I could live with my simple interest income triggering another form and thus negating the free part of the filing. And I do like the ease with which I was able to input information, automatically in most cases. Here's where the stars began to fade. I wanted to pay for the filings out of my refund, but it was not made clear at all that there was a fairly substantial fee for doing so.

Fortunately, someone from the help desk was able to walk me through going back and changing to paying with a credit card. But throughout the process of actually getting the forms filed, I was forced to undo the upgrading to a more expensive plan. I was never given the choice to opt into a higher cost plan; instead, I was forced to undo the selection of that plan. It would have been VERY easy to have accidentally opted for the higher plan, AND I was being manipulated to choose the plan in a heavy-handed way. So, while it is a breeze getting the info entered into the forms, it is a nightmare the rest of the way through. You just lost a customer, TurboTax.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, we were eligible for the Freedom Edition. That means, that we qualified for free filing... Everything was fine. I sat and spent hours going through my tax forms making sure I had everything and double-checking all entries. At the very end when I clicked on get ready to file, they had a plus benefits charge of $29.99. Well, the problem is, there is absolutely no way to remove it... So, they suggest to go back and delete all the information you entered and start over! First of all, I did that... It was still there! There's absolutely no way to remove it and so I just got suckered into pain $30 and, if you want to just have the $30 taken out of your refund, they charge you another 39.99!

Taking advantage of people by not being able to remove the Plus benefits which I do now not want, they are not needed! I called the rude customer service representative regarding this issue to ask them for a service code that I could put into maybe offset it because it did not work, they said I had to clear and start over! What good did it do me when I did it? I never opted to have the damn thing anyway! I want my money back. Again, they just added on and there's no way to remove it.

Was able to get tax credits from the feds and state for solar panels we had installed this last year, something that TaxACT could not do as they didn't have the "current forms". Was able to finish in about 1.5 hours with no stress. I used the deluxe version as I itemize and it was quick and easy. TaxACT, on the other hand, was clunky to use and very stressful, as forms were either not there or hard to access. TurboTax was simply a wonderful experience for a modest fee of $71. TaxACT was asking for over $80 for a much less impressive product that is now way overpriced and underperforms. Thank you TurboTax!

Each time I get to the last page where you select how you want to file your taxes direct deposit, TurboTax prepaid card, paper check etc. I've tried them all. Even tried two different direct deposit accounts. Still it won't move forward. It stays on the last screen. I thought it may have been information entered in incorrectly. Which is why I tried the prepaid card and then another direct deposit acct. I confirmed all the numbers and still it's not allowing me to complete the filing process. I'm at the last step. So when I call or try to speak to someone they want me to upgrade. Why it's your product. It's not saying I have any errors on my taxes. So why isn't it moving to the last steps.

Took me about 45 to complete my taxes and I've been on the last page for the last past 2 hours reading questions and trying to figure out why it won't allow me to move forward. Only thing I can think of is they want me to pay for the plus to get them to fix the error that's with their online product. I've never had this issue before and last year I was able to call and ask a question for free. This year to even ask a question you have to upgrade. Why upgrade? I don't have an error on my part. So that's seems suspect and I think it's an on purpose glitch because others may just pay out of frustration. However I won't. I will delete and go to H&Rs product for free. I'm gonna wait a day or two and see if it clears up. If not I'm deleting the entire refund.

Because of that I had to pay for the deluxe not the premium but the deluxe which is two steps up from the free option as well as it did not tell me until after I was all done inputting information and answering questions so I have to pay their outrageous price for both federal and state or start all over and go elsewhere. Not to mention if you do agree to pay $39.99 for federal and $36.99 and you select to use your refund to pay there is no place it says that it is $39.99 to pay out of your refund until after you agree to pay for the service out of your refund so you can not cancel and go back or go elsewhere so now your free return is $120.00 with no audit support or ability to speak to a real person.

I will not be using them again as a simple return should not cost $120 and each branch of tax should not be its own separate fee. As well as $39.99 to pay for the filing out of your refund fee is outrageous. Please do not use TurboTax or its affiliates.
