I'm an American married into a French Canadian family and live in the Province of Quebec, Canada. I file federal and provincial income tax in Canada. And the USA requires expats to file a US tax return even though they live year around in a foreign country. As I did last year, I opted for the deluxe version of TurboTax to file my federal return (Expats do NOT need to file STATE returns, only a federal return). After jumping through all the hoops of inserting data in the TurboTax format, my return was complete and I was shunted to the payment page. I have a credit card with a US bank. My billing address for that credit card, however, must be where I actually reside, which is in Canada. Well, after doing all the work of calculating my return with TurboTax, I am finally told that TurboTax will not accept payment unless the billing address is in the US. Huh?
TurboTax must be run by idiots. Since I logged in from Canada and indicated at the top of the form filling that my address was in Canada, why didn't TurboTax at that point stop me to indicate (1) that TT only accepts payment with a credit card of an American bank (which I have) AND ALSO (2) THAT THE BILLING ADDRESS MUST BE IN THE USA (which is absurd except for military personnel) in order to complete the TurboTax transaction. All that work down the drain. US hotels take US credit cards with Canadian billing addresses; when will TT catch up with the times? There are other points during the insertion of data about income and deductions where TurboTax makes it very difficult to insert data, for instance, like my wife's Canadian pension.
The Government of Canada, Dear TurboTax, dose not use a US form 1099-R in reporting their annual pension paid. The Canadian government actually uses a form of its own design. So, Dear Turbo, stop insisting that we provide Canada's pension report as if its data were within all the numbered blocks of a 1099-R. Did I mention how irritated and frustrated I am with TurboTax? TT will more or less complete your return, but you won't be able to get a copy and file it with the IRS because, at the very final step, TT won't accept a US credit card from a US citizen expat with a foreign billing address. Absurd! Expats, be advised to download forms direct from the IRS, or wherever I must now go to start over.

I opened an account. Prepared my return because I can claim a student loan interest. They want to charge me to prepare the return. Ok so I agree. I saved my return. Logged off. Came back a few days later and I had mo return. Had to start over. Now I’m getting significantly less money back. Don’t know what happened, proceeded with my return. Gave my bank account info for the refund. Now I get an email indicating I have two returns, but they filed the lesser amount of return. Now I have a debit card in the mail. I did not ask for that but they are charging me for it. I can’t call anyone. I can’t speak to anyone. I can even fix what they sent in. This is terrible service. It is not free and they don’t subscribe to Consumer Affairs. Not surprised. They don’t want to know the millions of people they’re ripping off. Shut them down please!

I bought the deluxe edition because that's what I used last year. Every section said I couldn't complete filling it out because the IRS forms were not yet available and they would be emailed to me when they became available. I went to the IRS website and lo and behold there were the forms. With only 9 days before the deadline. I ended up going to H&R Block, paying another $59 to get my taxes filed on time. How do I get my money back for the useless TurboTax CD?

Last year I purchased TurboTax Deluxe (with 2 states) which was sufficient to prepare my returns for myself (a retiree) and my daughter who lives in PA and works in DE. My income consists of SS and some supplemental income from dividends and a small amount of consulting work. This year, with no change in the character of my income and my daughter's income, I was required to upgrade to the premium version at a substantial increase in expense. When I complained to Intuit, I was told given the feeble excuse that taxes were more complicated due to IRS changes. I also do not trust the numbers this time and am having trouble following their calculations, which never happened before. I know something about tax calculations having done my taxes for over 30 years myself without the help of software.

I spent two hours inputting my information into TurboTax free edition and after all that work, as soon as I get to the place where you file, they say that I need to pay them 59.99 to upgrade to deluxe. I was super pissed at this point because there are other free options available that are actually free and I could have spent my time using one of those sites. As soon as I agree to their stupid 60, they take me to a page that shows me that I have to pay them an additional 44 to file state. I quit and I will use another site and spend another 2 hours on my taxes. I will never use them again. Screw TurboTax (and I had been a customer for over 10 years).

I've used TT (TurboTax) for at least 15 years. In 2019 they began a sneaky way to pump up their tax preparation charges. 1. They said there was a $20 reduction in their charges. That applies ONLY to their most basic service level. They constantly urge you to "upgrade" to a higher service level, but the $20 discount disappears when you do. 2. When they said I HAD to upgrade in order to properly report the sale of my house, I entered all the extra information about that, they didn't even fill out or include the form with the Federal return.
3. Then, when your return is finished and you're getting a refund, they flash several confusing screens and trick you into applying for a LOAN from some unknown bank (that they probably own) with a one time fee of $40!! They say you'll get your refund faster if you OK this sucker charge. 4. And when you print the 24 pages of your return, the last 9 pages are the fine print legal document related to the loan, which you were never shown before they tricked you into signing up for it. Never again TT, never again will I use your cheating, hidden fee tax service!!

Short story is that we should easily qualify for free tax filing, but TurboTax has changed their software so that it is almost impossible for anyone to use that product. And they don't tell you that you will have to use Deluxe edition until after you are deep into the process. Went to IRS.gov, found alternate software, and have now been able to successfully file federal and state taxes for FREE.
I have used TurboTax for years with no problems. My husband has unemployment compensation, which is reported on a 1099. This has never been a problem in years past, but this year the ONLY way to enter a 1099 is with $60 Deluxe edition. It's not bad enough to have to pay this fee, but they wait until you are well into the process before giving you any clue that you are going to have to do so. Deceptive marketing practice! Promise someone a free product, then when they have already invested a significant amount of time and energy in that "free" product, they are much more likely to cave and pay for the Deluxe product that they would never have considered if they had known about it up front. In no way do they warn you of this fact until after you have entered everything.
I suspect that if I agreed to that $60 charge, then I would have also been hit with another charge to file my state taxes (based on prior experience and others' reviews). We have no itemized deductions, no investment or interest income, nothing other than three W-2 forms and one 1099. That one little 1099 is what TurboTax is citing to require us to use their Deluxe product at the exorbitant cost of $60. For $100, I could have a professional complete my taxes for me (yes, that is accurate - I had complicated tax returns 2 years ago, and that was her charge for federal and state). I remember the days of going to the library to pick up a (FREE) tax form, fill it out and mail it in - all it cost was the stamp.
As citizens who are legally required to file and pay taxes, we should be able to do so at no charge. So I checked IRS.gov and there I found actual resources for truly free filing. It takes a little more entry, and clearly none of my prior year tax info is transferring over, but the extra hour I spent was well worth my $60. Don't fall for TurboTax's scam. My biggest complaint is that they are spending millions of dollars on advertising (the most annoying ads on TV right now!) to say that they are "free, free, free" - but they will do everything they can to force you to upgrade when you are too tired to object.

I have been using TurboTax for over a decade. The product has been cost prohibitive. I purchased the deluxe version at Sam's Club for $41.89, paid $ 47.28 for WI state tax return, and paid $24.99 for e-filing for a total cost of $114.16. Paying this amount to do my own taxes is ridiculous! I don't mind paying the cost of the software, but I do take issue with the extra upcharges.

I went all the way through preparing my return under the free product. When I tried to claim my $250 Educator Expense deduction, I couldn't do it without switching to the $59.95 paid product. This amounts to giving them the $30 difference it made in my refund plus paying another $30 for the ability to claim it. Instead, I went to IRS.gov and found an actual free-filing product. I got the $30 benefit of the deduction without paying extra for the privilege!

They provide a CD, but I have no CD drive, so, like many times before, I called TurboTax (Intuit) for support -- basically you have to talk to a support representative in person, they collect the ID from the CD you purchased and they send you a link to download the software. I have made two calls and been on the phone for over an hour in total and neither person has been able to help me. It is INSANE that the support teams have absolutely no knowledge how to perform this simple task. Who the ** trains them? This should take two minutes, tops! In fact, it really should be automated.

I filed my taxes this year with TurboTax. As I neared the end, they told me I could only file them if I paid $60. My wife and I discussed it and decided it would be worth the $60 to just get taxes over with. So we inputted our credit card information and paid the $60. Little did I know the $60 fee was a lie. Without our knowledge they tacked on another $50 fee for state filing. When I checked my credit card, there was a $110 charge. I was obviously frustrated, but I figured getting angry at people doesn't fix problems, so I called customer support, explained my situation, and the very kind lady apologized to me. She did tell me they had a refund policy and I could get my money back in 7 days. I asked if I could consult my wife and then call back. We decided as a matter of principle that we shouldn't pay for a dishonest service. They charged our card a different price than we agreed to, and that is enough to lose our service.
A little research showed Jackson Hewitt offers an equivalent service as Deluxe with State for $50 less than TurboTax. So I called back, and got connected to a crabby lady who kept interrupting me. I am a nice person, and I realize their job is hard. They probably have to deal with angry people all the time. I answered all her questions with clear detail then she accused me of trying to get my taxes done for free. "The taxes are already submitted" she said. "You're trying to get a refund so you can do your taxes for free." "You think you don't have to pay anything!" That's not it. I'd gladly pay any HONEST company to help me with my taxes. Turbotax isn't that. Please get me the refund I was promised. They couldn't find the case number so I gave it to her. She told me there were no notes about the refund.
I really should have taken the offer when it was given to me. I feel that I treated her exactly how I wanted to be treated, with respect, and she treated me like garbage. She is getting a very bad review. After she angrily tried to prove me wrong on everything, she transferred me to the manager. I explained my situation to the manager, who was much kinder and understanding. She did tell me that they have a no refund policy. This is not her fault, but the company's. On their website they advertise a $0 guarantee. That guarantee is a slap in the face and will likely turn into a lawsuit because it's a blatant lie. I asked if they could at least refund the extra $50 they charged me, and she the company doesn't do that. She apologized for it all, and offered me no solution because the greedy board of Turbotax has designed their system to steal money.
I then told her that if they couldn't refund my money, at least do me this one favor: Please send a message to your manager to let them know that the way the website is formatted, it's easy to be mislead into believing you're paying only $60 when that only includes federal. Let your manager know that customers are losing trust in your company because of faulty website design. She said she would send that message and I really hope she does.
To summarize, I rate TurboTax one star because of dishonesty in their business affairs. Two of the customer service representatives I spoke with were kind and understanding, but the company's structure didn't allow me to get the help I needed. One employee was completely disrespectful and should be fired. TurboTax has lost my trust and I will never return. Please do your research and find an honest company to file your taxes with. Don't make the mistakes I did.

I am currently having a problem with identity theft and explained my situation to the customer service rep. Customer Service at TurboTax could care less. They refused to take my account down even after I had been verified. It was infuriating! I will never use them again! They treat their customer's requests with complete disregard! That was received in my account (02/21/2019) and applied to medical bills prior to TurboTax notifying customers of their error (3/20/3019)... was $700 MORE than my actual refund should have been. You might want to put that in clear writing instead of hiding it in your system. I figure since I always file with them I would just pay the extra money and be done with it. I was suppose to get $800 back as my refund, but I choose to pay with my refund. I expected a $100 or so difference. But next year I will, because Intuit has managed to infuriate a (formerly) happy and loyal customer. I tried the online version this year. It said "you don't have to pay until you file". But most of the features I liked weren't there-- for example, I couldn't click on a number and get the source of the data, as I could with the desktop version. But at that point, I had already invested several hours in the process, and I didn’t want to start over.
Then there's the matter of price. I was used to paying around $50 for TurboTax. But this year, I had to get the premier version because I had maybe 3 lines of items in Schedule D. That roughly doubled my cost, to $120. I could have done Schedule D manually in less time. Then when I finished the return, I had to work hard to keep TurboTax from filing right away, before I had a chance to review the numbers. The program did everything it could to get me to file. For whatever reason, the refund is ~$1400 less than last year, with no substantial changes in my financial situation, which is as uncomplicated as possible. However, when looking over the California return paperwork I saw that there was nothing listed on line 8a, "Home mortgage interest and points reported to you on Form 1098." Going back through the TurboTax protocol several times, I could find no reference or instructions that would help, but I finally took a guess and put in the interest amount under 8a C- "Additions," at which point the CA refund went up around $600 to just under last year's refund.
Having no confidence in this conclusion--or in the Federal return's accuracy, and finding no helpful information via an Internet search, I tried to contact TurboTax support. There was no information for immediate contact on the website (live chat/telephone #'s), and it took an extensive search just find a telephone number which got me to "Hold." Twice I requested call back, only to be cut off just as someone started speaking. Once I held for ~15 minutes with the same result. Once the TurboTax system called back to announce in a threateningly manner that they had been unable to reach me and this was my "last chance"-- only to cut off again. Not only does the automated system refuse to let you speak with a person, when you finally figure out how to get around it, the hold times are insane, and some of the people I finally spoke to had no clue how to do it, and ended up wasting an hour of my time. Overall, a horrible experience.

Since we itemize and I help my kids with their taxes, I purchased TurboTax Deluxe. I downloaded it on my computer. With tax the charge was over $80. According to the information on my receipt, I could prepare 5 Federal Tax Returns and 1 State Return. What it doesn't tell you is that you can prepare your state return and print it out but you have to pay an additional $24.99 to e-file it. I called support because it kept trying to charge me and they explained the additional charge. Very misleading. This is the last year I will use them. There are other companies who let you use their software free and don't charge you to e-file.

I filed with TurboTax, as I have done for years. This year, 2 MONTHS after I filed, I get a "critical" email from them that said, in part, "Because of an error in a TurboTax calculation, you may have underpaid your taxes. If you used TurboTax to file your 2018 Oregon state tax return prior to February 1, 2019, you may have overstated the Itemized Deductions, leading to an underpayment of tax. We fixed the issue in TurboTax and we want to make sure you have the information to determine if your return is complete and accurate."
So basically, they had an error on their end, thereby making me underpay my taxes. I was totally unaware until they emailed me, now I have to file an amendment, which I have never done in my life. This creates a whole new set of problems for me. BTW, it was HUNDREDS of dollars more that I owe on state taxes. It's only by the grace of God the IRS isn't coming after me for TurboTax's mistake, because now I look like a liar to the IRS.
The representative I spoke to essentially said that changes in tax code happen all the time, and I shouldn't have filed in late January. What? I have always filed the minute I am allowed to to get it over with. They messed up, and they don't even care. I hope we can get a class action lawsuit against these guys. I'm in. The only reason I pay to have my taxes done through them is because they are supposed to be the professionals and know all the laws/rules so my taxes are done correctly. I'm just a regular person, I don't know all the tax laws/rules. I just fill in the appropriate data they ask me for, and truthfully answer all questions they ask of me. I will NEVER use them again, and I want to warn others about what can happen if they choose to use TurboTax.

I was transferred several times and the representative appeared to not understand and would continuously repeat what I said and then ask me to again tell her what transactions were not authorized. She acted as if she didn't understand or believe me, asking the same questions repeatedly. There were only two transactions disputed totaling $57.58. I finally got the dispute filed and the process is a bit much and no way to fax or email the letter they ask for. It has to be handwritten or typed, signed, and mailed out.
After all that, I receive notice that after their investigation my dispute was denied. How is that possible??? I don't know. I filed a police report and one of the merchants eyewitnessed the young man who used my card so I had to call Intuit again and re-file a new dispute and appeal the decision from the 1st dispute. Currently it is in process and has not been completed. I/we as their customers should not have to go through all of that. My husband and I are retired and I am a retired bookkeeper that has worked in CPA offices for 30 years helping with tax preparation. I filed our return early on February 6, 2019. The IRS notice arrived 6 weeks later an stated that my 8962 form was not included in my return. I review my 2018 return and the box regarding health insurance was changed to NO and my 8962 had not been included in my return. TurboTax auto fills the health insurance question with NO health insurance. So basically my $726 refund is on hold and I had to amend my state tax return also. On 2/28/19 I decided to file my tax return with TurboTax. Big mistake! Immediately they told me it was free then when I filled out all my information and was ready to click on submit they told me I can’t complete my return until I sign up for TurboTax Deluxe which is 39.99 and not to worry because I can take it out my tax return so I proceeded. My problems did not end there. I then submitted my tax return and they told me I was due for a federal return of 711 but will only get 655$ because they need to take out the 56 state that they claim I owe NYS. I then read the fine line lab and they said they are charging me 127$ so I call customer service and spoke with Jessica ** case # ** who said I will not be charged the 127 that she will make sure I only get charged the 39.99 for the Deluxe package however I had to wait until I received my taxes in order for them to refund me. I said fine.
On 3/16/19 I finally received my return and only got 585?? 711-585 is 127$ so I called customer service and was told tutu charged me 127 because that included TurboTax fees, federal fees plus my 56$ that they claim I owe NYS. I said that does not sound right because when I filed on 2/27/19 they asked me when should the state deduct their 56$ and I said on 3/22/19 so why would they take it out on 3/16/19? But the representative said she does not know and PROMISED ME I WOULD NOT HAVE ANY MORE MONEY TAKEN OUT. Case # **.
I wake up today on 3/22/19 with another 56$ taken out my checking account so I called customer again and after 1 hour still nothing. I asked them why would they take out another 56$ if they claimed it was included in the 127$ they took from me causing me to get only 585 federal return? They said they don’t know so I asked for a supervisor who then gave me the runaround insisting they don’t owe me any money. I said if I was due for 711 federal and only received 584 that’s an 127$ difference plus 56$ for 3/22/19. I did not sign up for 183 deductions. Are they still high of ** & **?
So period point blank they are not trying to give me my money back so I put in a lawsuit just because and got my bank Chase after NYS for my 56$. Should NYS ask me why I took back the money I will refer them to TurboTax who claims they paid them already! DO NOT USE TURBOTAX. They are liars and will make promises and even give you multiple case numbers that don't mean squat when you call them. Disgusting.

If you used TurboTax to file your 2018 Oregon state tax return prior to February 1, 2019, you may have overstated the Itemized Deductions, leading to an underpayment of tax...” So I immediately go in and now I owe $1,053 to the state because I decided to do my taxes early and turbo tax was having calculation issues. I had also filed through the Deluxe version which was over $80. I would’ve been better off going to a different tax service and paid the same amount and not have had to get hit with a $1,053 bill that Turbo is suggesting I pay by April 15, 2019 because it’s not like I have tuition and other expenses to pay for too.
I called and the first lady I talked to had no idea what she was doing. She asked me if I filed taxes and I said yes, mentioned the email she was confused I hung up. Called again, different lady was guiding me through the desktop and I went through the amend process online about 5x and one time it said I owed $0. We did the process once again to double check (changing NOTHING) got $1,053 due again. I nor the representative were able to figure out where exactly and exactly how much the miscalculation was but she said “since it is a miscalculation on TurboTax’s end, TurboTax will take care of the $1,053” then 10 minutes later she said “All I can do is refund what you paid TurboTax for filing.” Then the call disconnected and she disconnected online so here I am.
Never will I EVER use TurboTax again. Rather pay $100+ and go to someone and get what I was supposed to get than get my taxes deposited into my bank account than 1.5 months later get told I have 3 weeks to pay $1,053 before I start getting charged penalties and interest. To clarify, this was a TurboTax system miscalculation that they have admitted to. Nothing I incorrectly entered on my end.

I used TurboTax for the second time this year. When I go into my 2017 tax return, the home page summarizes my refunds from Federal and State. Perfect, However, when I go into my actual documents, all the numbers are different and it indicates I owe $7000 on Federal!!! After doing a lot of research, I found a bogus 1099-R for a $40,000 distribution that never happened.
The bogus 1099-R for $40,000 that mysteriously appeared had a federal ID number but only ** for the Payer with no address. I had about a 1 ½ hour conversation with someone at TurboTax to try to understand why my 2017 tax documents changed in TurboTax after I filed. Once you file, you cannot go into the system and change anything.
When I go into TurboTax and look at previous year taxes, the federal and state refund dollar amounts are correct. However, if you go into the actual tax return documents, they are totally different. There is a 1099-R document that indicates I had a $40,000 distribution and it caused all of the numbers in the tax return to change. It now indicates that I owe over $7000 when I actually got a federal tax return refund of $3505. That change put me in a different tax bracket and also caused a huge tax change social security tax obligation.
I filed my taxes through TurboTax. They got the correct documents and I received the correct refund. My goal was to determine how that 1099-R appeared in my tax documents after-the-fact – totally changing what I originally filed through TurboTax. The person I talk to said that I should file an amendment. I asked why I would do that when the IRS /State received the correct tax documentation and the mistake is within TurboTax, not with the government. If I filed an amendment, I figured they would get confused.
The TurboTax representative was never able to give me an answer. I wanted him to send this issue to a boss, a fraud dept. –someone who could determine why this happen. That never did. I have copies of my correct 2017 tax return. I have copies of the bogus 2017 tax return that appeared in TurboTax sometime during 2018. The issue was closed out without my getting a satisfactory answer. The advice was that I should call the IRS to try to find out the company that owns federal ID text number ** – the federal ID that was on the 1099-R that mysteriously appeared and threw off my entire 2017 tax numbers.
The gentleman I talked to was trying to be very helpful and I appreciate all the time that he took in investigating and understanding what happened. I think he is as confused as I am as to how this could have happened. We checked the computer activity and there was nothing suspicious. I told him that even if somebody had gotten into my account, it was my understanding that none of my numbers could be changed after I filed electronically through TurboTax. So technically, this should not have happened. It would be nice to solve the mystery. I am concerned about the security of TurboTax. I am concerned with their unwillingness to investigate. I will never use them again.

I have filed with TurboTax for several years now and I've always qualified for the free service. I realize that people should not expect services for free forever, so I'm willing to pay a little for a great convenience. Having said that, this year was like being nickel and dimed at the circus. Nothing has changed about our lifestyle/circumstances. We are in the same home as the last 6 years, no children at home, wages and SS income are about the same, from the same employers, and I get a tax credit from the Healthcare Marketplace as I have for the last 3 years. Nothing has changed. Except as I entered our income information, it wasn't clear where my husband's SS income should be entered.
I finally figured it out but it was as if I was going to enter another W2 for myself. After that, when I entered the information on the Healthcare tax credit form 1095, it told me I had to upgrade to Deluxe. From free for both my federal and state taxes, I was now going to be charged $59.99 for the federal return and also $39.99 for the state return. No happy medium, eh? From zero to $100 all because I have a 1095 form! I confirmed this with an assistant on the TurboTax Facebook messenger. Because I complained, I was given a courtesy "service code" for a $20 discount. I do appreciate that. I also went through my USAA website and got another $10 off.
Oh, but that wasn't true because looking at TurboTax's pricing page, they already have a $10 discount (from the $59.99) so I don't think I got my USAA discount. At any rate, I paid $69.99 for both basic tax returns that have been free for years. Oh, one more issue. I was unable to have the fees deducted from my federal return. It just didn't appear as an option on the page. Apparently, there's a whole list of things that will force you to pay by credit/debit card. One of those things is if there are any pending tax laws that haven't gone through yet, which could change your refund, they won't let you pay from your refund. There is something regarding the mortgage interest deduction that is pending, so that stopped me from being able to pay out of my refund. Never mind that I took the standard deduction and it will not make any difference once it's settled. So I paid by debit card.
I guess I should be glad, because they are now charging a $40 transaction fee (because they've contracted with an outside financial institution to withdraw the money for TurboTax fees) before you get your money direct deposited. Like I said, Highway Robbery! It costs pennies for these types of transactions at the most, but of course, they can get away with charging $40 for a split second of automatic computations on a giant computer. Gee, thanks TurboTax. I've enjoyed the convenience while it lasted but next year I'm changing companies.

I purchased the TurboTax cd and did my 2018 Federal and State income tax. I have used it in the past and have had little problems. This year I e-filed to both the Federal and Illinois. Both accepted my filing and I was finished. I did owe Illinois a small sum of money. I printed out my Federal file with no problem. When I tried printing out the Illinois return, TurboTax stated that the State was incomplete. I needed one form from the state (IL-1040V) in order to pay what I owed. I went into the forms section of the program and there was my Illinois return. I tried to print it, but the program would not allow it. I spent most of the day trying different things to get this printed.
The next day I called TurboTax which was a chore getting a human to talk to. A person named "Norman **" made an attempt to help me. When he hit a dead end he stated that he was going to talk to a specialist and he would call me right back. He never called back! The following day I called again. This time I was able to talk to a specialist named Loc. Loc did her very best to solve this problem. I talked with her for three hours trying different things she and her team suggested. Nothing helped. I ended the session downloading a fix which would take time and also had dinner. Loc stated that if that fix didn't work, I should call back tomorrow. It didn't work!
I called back the next day and spoke with a specialist named Ken. Ken started off saying that he had 15 years of experience and that he would solve the problem. After a short time we lost phone contact. He tried calling me back but he called on my cell. The problem was I was talking on my landline which was the same number that was the call back number for three days. I didn't have the cell with me. He called 3 times, you would think with 15 years of experience he would have checked the number. He sent an email telling me he called three times and if I wanted a copy I should go to the State of Illinois and request one. I tried emailing him back but it was not accepted. I will never buy TurboTax again! I will tell all that will listen of the poor program and service they have.

There was NOTHING to say there would be additional fees or that my refund would go to another bank. I simply chose this option as it seemed the simplest way to pay. Had I known it was going to cost additional fees I would not have done so. I have not received my refund, and cannot speak to anyone since I "did not pay for customer service". After a lot of run around I found out my federal refund went to Civista Bank. This is not my bank and I did not authorize this. I then found out Civista has taken a total of $136.83 from my refund, also not authorized. They have not given me my refund, nor contacted me to advise they have had my money for almost a month. I consider myself a rather patient and rational person but my blood is already boiling and I'm not going to recount the many frustrations encountered with TT. I fear doing so will cause me to hurl my monitor out the window! My biggest gripe is their indirect and hidden fees. I apparently needed their $59.99 Deluxe package in order to enter and file information for a 1099-MISC. Already in too deep, I bit the bullet only to find it was an additional $39.99 for the state filing - all because I had a 1099-MISC. When I bit that bullet, it appeared on my bank account as $105.98 and for those of you doing the math, that's $6 more than the $59.99 Deluxe and $39.99 state fee. Yeah, it's only $6 but it's the principle of it now and that measly $6 is enough for me to say I will be returning to TaxAct next year or to any other tax services but TT.

I've used TurboTax for years without a problem. This year, however was a different story. They seem to have cut back on quality control. When TT did its final check it came back and said there was an issue. Form 2210, section II, box A needs to be unchecked as there is no penalty. (If they knew it was supposed to be unchecked, why didn't they uncheck it.) They displayed the form so I could uncheck it. However, it couldn't be unchecked no matter what I did. I tried multiple times. I requested a call and was told I would get a call within 30 minutes. I got no call but a couple hours later I received an email asking to rate the service I got on the call.
I did some research and found a note from TT saying the problem I was having with form 2210 was a known bug and they were working on it. I filled out a form so they could advise me when the bug was fixed. The next day I got an email saying it was fixed. Apparently, their idea of a fix was to skip the check. They e-filed the return without changing anything. About six hours later, I got an email from TT stating that the IRS had rejected my return because Box A on form 2210, section II was checked and I hadn't included the required explanation.
The email said they would walk me through fixing the issue. The directions said to open form 2210, review and make corrections. There was no way to open the form. Finally, I decided to print the return, remove the unnecessary form 2210, and mail the return. The next day I get an email from TT suggesting that I print the return and mail it. Why fix the bug when you can shift the work on to a paying customer? I've read a lot of complaints about their deceptive pricing practices. I'd prefer that to filing an inaccurate return and pissing off the IRS.

Had no issues with Federal eFile, although note for simplicity they will charge you another $19.99 to eFile the state.
Immediate acknowledgement that Federal was accepted but the State was rejected for lack of proper email? No one at TurboTax finds this unusual, especially when their system will not eFile if you have blatant mistake. Spoke to State and they are passing the issue to TT, while TT is absolutely worthless to help. So now have to hassle with cancellation of credit card and deal with this problem. It is normally 34-39 bucks, but you filed state which I was under the impression that I had to that another 34-39 bucks. I don't remember pressing deluxe but my recipient says otherwise. All together I was charged 106 which I am having deducted from my return. Get this included in that 106 is a fee, for allowing them to take the payment for the service fees from my return.
Again I reiterate this is supposed to be a free service. Do not fall into the hype. Do your research. In order to prevent this problem again, I decided to download TT Deluxe this year because the price between Costco's CD and Intuit Download was very similar. I would pay the $39.99 when e-filing, according to Intuit. When it came time to e-file, the sudden charge was $49.99 PLUS another $39.99. Over $100 for FREE Tax Return?? $50 for a $40 Refund!?? All I can say is don't click on Deluxe or any other of their click bait. They won't let you delete and start over once you have. You have to pay to submit the State even if you don't want it. It was $40 for my $50 State refund. I respect programmers, and think they should be paid, but only when there is a clear agreement of both parties. And they clearly hide after swindling you. There is very little support. It's disappointing to see a good product used in such a poor way. Consumers have a good memory - I hope the current owners of Intuit change their marketing and business strategy or they will lose my business and hopefully a lot of other honest consumers...

I’ve been using the same account with TurboTax for 8 years and they waited until after someone stole my info and processed a return through their site to let me know there may have been suspicious activity under a different user acct with my SS. Furthermore they sent me a misleading email saying they could potentially stop the pending submission (yet they emailed me after it was already accepted by IRS via TurboTax online). And then the reps lied and said they would contact the IRS with “fraud advocacy” for which they don’t do. They also promised to cover any cost of using their program to calculate my taxes this year and give me a pdf print out to mail in and I had to call 3 times to get that.

The help desk stated this was because of a windows update. This was Feb. 24 - Windows update occurred Feb. 20. No fixes offered - rename the file (delete) & redo. I did this which took another 2+ hours. Attempted to open the file Feb. 28 to find it corrupt again. Help desk again went to the default reason of a Windows update which is bogus because there was no update. The help desk stated that they were getting a lot of calls about this. They are clueless as to the reason this is happening & just rolled over & refunded the cost. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!

Have been using TurboTax Premier for years. It carries over info from previous years, allows direct input of financial info from the sources, and provides everything I need to file a somewhat complicated return. The most complicated segments I deal with have to do with K1s and foreign assets, income, and taxes. That could be improved on, I think. But maybe that's the IRS's problem. When I have had difficulties I can't resolve myself or with online help, a CPA is available to resolve them. Audit support is readily available also.

For years, TurboTax has been very clean and trustworthy. Not this year. Federal return rejected by the Feds, because form 2011 was prepared by Tax 1) unnecessarily, and 2) incorrectly. Also many bad "flow" decisions, like "Did you have (situation **) this year. Reply "No". TurboTax asks "what kind of situation ** did you have?" Several examples of this. Looks like the tax changes got away form the developers & they shipped really incomplete code. Makes me nervous about filing.

I have used the TurboTax client application and online version (TTO) for 15 years. I just logged in to start 2018 taxes and noticed my filed 2017 return has $0 for income.
In February 2018, TTO automatically imported my W2 from my employer with all the correct values. I completed and filed my return. Now the employer information such as EIN is in the return, but no dollar values. Furthermore, I found it impossible to get any meaningful support. The 2 help articles that I used to try to amend my return were useless; namely the instructions did not match the interface in any way. These next two lines make absolutely no sense when there is "Show" to click: "Sign in at TurboTax.com with the login you used when you filed your 2017 return. Click Show to open Your tax returns & documents." On a technical note, each time I clicked on a hyperlink in the help panel, it forced me to log in again, over and over!

TurboTax advertised that filing my federal and state taxes would both be free. They filed my federal one, but when they went to file my state one, they said I would have to pay $59. They didn't have the form for my state available back when I filed my federal one, so TurboTax said that I would have to return later to file the state one. When I returned, the site said that a "unique situation" required a different IRS (federal) form that would require the $59 upgrade. What?! My federal one was already filed weeks ago! They won't let me file my state one without upgrading for the already-filed federal one. Do they really think I won't go through the trouble of using a competitor for my state return when I had already started it with them? I do not fall for bait-and-switch tactics! Software did not catch a very blatant mistake. I entered a number and misplaced put a comma where a . should go - big difference and so the income from another state was way higher than the total income. You would think the software that is checking for errors would have caught that one. I did not catch it until the first state return rejected it. That one I was able to fix. However the state that I owed (because of the mistake) accepted the return. (Why would they identify a mistake that would cost them revenue.) So now I have to file an amended return. Also tried to talk to someone at TurboTax about this and was put in a queue for them to call me back - they did not.

I saw several advertisements sent to my email to file for free sent to my email this year. I thought "What's in the fine print?" It turns out that it wasn't "free"...big surprise. I don't have a complex refund by any means. I have 1 job, school loans I'm paying on, and medical benefits assistance...not complex right? Well all WAS free until I had to claim what I had for interest on my student loans. When I tried to claim that the site told me that the FREE version didn't cover reporting that. Seriously?! What people haven't had any school loans. I'd say at least 50% have...just a guess. So I felt slightly willing to pay $60 for the next version up. Mind you I may have saved $0 by doing that because my school stuff only gave me around an extra estimated $60 on my refund. Then of course they charged another $40 something for the "Free" state tax filing. That's not the kicker. Here it is.
They disguise this $45 fee in with paying your services with TurboTax off with your federal refund. There is no clear initial fee displayed, you're just authorizing them to use your refund to pay the fees. You don't see the extra $45 until the very end when it pops up with the other "free" services lol. What a shady joke. It's like they have to find a devious way to take more of your money and if you didn't see that additional fee and hit continue you may never realize you were getting charged more than you thought. They try to play it off by saying that they'll be the liaison between you and the IRS should anything go wrong or get confused.
I did have this fee last year and they seemed to have squeezed that nice little surprise in this year. I am extremely disappointed with how this trick was used and will not be filing with Turbotax again. No thank you. I hope this helps anyone else who is filing, so they don't get scammed out of their money. Reminds me of Amazon. Just signing people up for autopay on prime that they just wanted to test out lol. When I called to ask about which discounts were available, or whether there was a deadline for the financial institution discount, or whether the discounts could be combined, the rep started reading a rote answer that was not to the point.
On the website it says "discount up to X" but that could mean nothing -- they don't give the exact amount. Especially since they cost more than other tax software, they should be clearer about this. Also, they keep trying to sell you up throughout the data entry process, they ask repeatedly if you want to pay something like $100 more for audit support. At the end, they give you the opportunity to write a review, but they are intrusive in how much information they ask - all about your personal tax situation, which you don't necessarily want to share in a review.

Another person who has 4 dependents put a bit away in a retirement fund, also getting the EIC and is on state help for his family, but because he needed this one form to get $80.00 back, TurboTax charged him $80.00, 40. for federal and 40. for state and to pay it with his refund it would be another 40.00. So obviously he paid it out of pocket and is now $80.00 less for food this week! And the form only allowed TurboTax to get money because it benefited him zero, TurboTax took all of it. Is someone going to do something about this? You don't even get forms in the mail anymore to do your taxes long hand if you wanted to. Wake up people, wake up government, you are pissing people off and someone needs to sue Turbo tax.

TurboTax online does not work if you make estimated payments and need Form 2210. The online program does not work at all, and I believe the desktop version is not much better. You have to print out your returns and mail them in because of the errors. Save your time and money and use a different tax prep software that will permit you to efile with Form 2210.

I have used Turbo Tax for years. Last year I had marketplace insurance. I had never used it before and didn't completely understand it. It turns out part of the year was private healthcare and part of the year was state Medicaid. IRS wants me to reconcile 1095A with Form 8962. Turns out they have done this for the last 3 years so this is not new to TurboTax according to IRS.
I have 20 days from 2/15/19 to reply and submit said paperwork. I turn to Turbo Tax to see if they have any answers as 8962 is quite complicated, esp. since I have depended on TurboTax to catch things. TurboTax says they can help me fill out the 8962 form. I follow instructions, oh no they can't because according to TurboTax the amendment form (which I have been instructed by the IRS to NOT do) isn't available at this time, 2/22/19 and will NOT be available until 3/7/19!!!! This is 2 DAYS after I have to have this paperwork submitted! I paid for TurboTax this year and it's become useless to me quickly. I will NEVER EVER recommend TurboTax to anyone ever again nor will I use it after this year. I trusted your help and it was a MISTAKE that may cost me a great deal!

Do not use this card to get your refund. Every time I have used it the money hits the card before you even get the card. I don't understand how they don't count Saturdays on their mailings for the the post runs on that days as well and it's not a business day. But I am Never using this card again. I will order a Netspend card a month before filing my taxes and have them put on there.

In my 2017 taxes using Turbo Tax, the software calculated my taxes using both federal and AMT tax amounts (you are only supposed to pay the higher amount, not both). I ended up paying double the amount I owed and a fine. I also had to pay another tax company to find the mistake and file an amended return. Read the small print on their accuracy guarantee. You have to find their mistake within 60 days. You also can't call and talk to anyone.
