I knew I should have went with somebody else... but they showed we would get more back from state than any other software I tried. So I thought I'd go with it. Once we paid, we are showing over $300 less than what they showed... I would have done it for free had I seen the amount we would get back before I paid. I thought maybe there was a deduction I was missing. What a scam...

I dislike companies that aren't honest in their advertising. The filing wasn't free & it took about 2 hours to complete. It's a great app but being dishonest will not have me returning next year. I ended up spending 116! I was pissed! Oh well back to TaxAct next year, the most they've ever charged me was $40. So disappointed in this & I'll make sure to spread the word how disappointing this experience was.

I've used Turbo Tax for a number of years and usually love it. This time however, is likely my last year. They changed the format of the NY and NJ format but the process was confusing and seemed intentionally deceptive. I noticed that they are selling a new feature which promises support, analysis and guarantees the returns. I never worried that the return would be inaccurate before but when I finished a number of the calculations didn't add up to the numbers on my W2 form, so naturally now I'm concerned that the figures don't add up. I haven't called them because it's 2 in the morning but I have a feeling that when I call they will tell me they can't help me because I didn't pay for the full service. This is too bad because now I can no longer recommend this product nor can I use it again.

I use Turbo Tax every year and I have been pleased, however, when I pay with my debit card for the exact amount of my printed receipt, they always overcharge me when I get my bank statement. I cannot imagine how legal this can be since I have the copy of the receipt. I have to inform my bank and dispute the charge. This time it was $4.09 over. The bank adjusts this for me. Even though it's for a small amount, can you imagine the amount of money from thousands of customers that it amounts to? Every year they do this and rather than get in a pissing contest with customer service, I just contact my bank instead.

I have paid for and used TurboTax online for 15+ years and generally liked the experience. This year they have made me angry and so I will use another service. This year they advertise "Free Edition" TurboTax for those with simple tax situations (1040EZ or 1040A). My tax situation has simplified as my children left home, etc., and so this year I should easily qualify (1040A, standard deduction, no capital gains...)
However, what TurboTax does NOT advertise is that a long-time user cannot transfer in their personal data if they want to use the free edition. So they penalize their loyal customers who may have used them for years forcing them to retype in all of their personal data, W2 info, etc. while qualifying in every other way. They should advertise that the free edition is for brand new customers only. I will be using H&R Block's service this year!

Intuit Turbo Tax bait and switch. Basic free version allows you to fill out all forms until you get ready to file and then requires that you sign up for Deluxe version at 39.99 to file, falsely indicating that you need to file a long form 1040 based on your tax situation. The tax situation for a teenage son included one W2 and one 1099-INT. Ridiculous bait and switch with pressure and up-sell during entire experience. Switched to another free filing service.

I have used TurboTax for 9 years... However, I had an issue this time around with billing that they refused to help me with. When I was getting ready to file my federal taxes, I did not want to pay the additional fee (I think it was $39.00) to have my payment automatically deducted from my refund, so I decided to pay with a card. As soon as I entered my card info, the payment was taken from my account without me even filing my taxes. It automatically charged me for my federal filing and then an additional $36.99 for my state taxes, which I was not planning to file through TurboTax (it's free in my state to file, so why would I waste that money?).
When I called to resolve this and request my $36.99 be returned to me, the customer service agent (who was clearly in agreement with me and seemed embarrassed to even work for the company) was not able to get approval from her supervisors to issue me a refund. She was also not able to transfer me to anyone higher up or give me a phone number, but she forwarded my case up to them and told me I would receive a call within 24 hours. I've heard nothing since then.
I eventually moved forward with filing my taxes because we need our refund, but I'm not sure I'll be using the service again. For NINE YEARS, I have been a loyal customer and I've always recommended TurboTax to my friends/family, so I was surprised at the terrible lack of customer service. I'm extremely disappointed that this company would rather lose a loyal customer than issue a small refund of $36.99. The payment process was very dishonest and I would urge everyone to make sure they are going very slowly when processing this part as to not get cheated out of any of their hard earned money.

I have used TurboTax for 3-4 years but this year the process was infuriating. I am retired and have a pension plus social security. It was going fine but when I tried to log in the info from my 1099Rs. But it kept trying to list it as IRA withdrawals which it wasn't. I tried to get help by going to the community to answer a question. As you go through the process it shows what your refund in the upper righthand corner. Which it showed the same amount all the way through. But I finally had to get help and called to speak with a tech. The minute I connected with tech the amount of my refund was reduced by $143. When I tried to get confirmation if there was a charge to speak with a tech. If there was they should tell you first and they don't. Reading through the comments it may be time to file. Class action complaint against them.

When I started the process, it was easy. Then every step I went to, there would be a charge of 19.99. As you keep going, you end up in a higher category, which would cost 29.99. So you get the point. I stopped after 49.99. I signed off and was very frustrated. I should have known, nothing is for free.

I used TurboTax in 2015 to file. It was a fairly straightforward return and went ok. Then last year I tried another free filing service other than this one. So this time I decided to try TurboTax again. They keep hawking free, but to capture previous years information you have to pay for the upgraded version ($29.99). That seemed acceptable. Then it asked if you wanted the fee deducted from the refund (which I thought was good). But after all information entered and ready to submit I find that they want an additional $39.99 to get the fee deducted from the refund! What a crock. I had to go back and figure out how to remove that option. Then I just paid for the fee with a credit card.
Then there more to this story. After I e-filed I got a notice that the IRS rejected the filing because some of the information for AGI was incorrect. What I found out is that TurboTax populated my AGI from 2015 as if it were 2016 numbers. So that was why it was rejected (it was their fault). Then my second attempt was rejected for the same reason because my spouse's information (joint return) had to have the same numbers. (I actually saw that on my first correction attempt but the software would not allow me to go back and edit her information. So I got a second IRS rejection. I just went back in and this time it took me to the correct area and I fixed her information.
TurboTax should have never populated 2015 numbers for my 2016 return information. It should have caught that if they had all of the bugs worked out. Next year I will go back the alternate (free) e-filing company. What should have been an easy experience turned into a mess. Oh, and this website has no chat feature or this could have been solved quickly.

After many, many years using a family friend C.P.A. to file taxes I had to find a new way as she retired. I saw a link to TurboTax "free" filing. I went through the process filing the simplest of returns (1040 A short form). I logged in, clicked "start free return" and began. The site worked magnificently. At the end there was mention of a $39.99 fee for filing the state tax return and a $150.00 for the federal. It asked to put your name in a box on the final page which I believed to be waiving the fees as I did sign in under free. I completed the return and then moved on and did my brother's as well. His came out free while filing the exact same forms. Mine will have $189.34 deducted from federal return.
Now, I will take responsibility if I misread what was written on the "fee" page. My chief complaint is the endless loop to nowhere in attempting to talk or even get a correspondence from TurboTax. I have now tried for 3 days and have resolved to threats, and even that has not worked. This is unfair practice to not be able to reach a human or receive a return message.

I've been using this online tax return tool since 2004 with NO issues at all. This year there have been system "glitches" that prevent me from completing my return. It took me over an hour to find that the issue was on TurboTax's end. I had to search through hundreds of user questions. The log-out option is only on one page, so it took me a long time to figure out how to even log out. My state return has still not been filed and not only do I not know why - but there seems to be NO ONE to ask!!! I will NOT use this next year. After many years of championing this tool - I'm out.

I wanted to file my 2017 federal and state returns electronically today. A payment of $19.99 is required to do the state and the software needs to save the returns and switch to somewhere to collect the credit card information. Each time I tried to do that, the TurboTax locked up and would not release my computer. Eventually I had to do the Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot the computer. I tried several times with the same lock up result each time. I finally just filed the federal electronically and printed the state to finish up. This is the same problem I had last year with their software. The Iowa state portion would lock up. That time their help person charged my credit card and I still could not make the 2016 software work and had to file a paper return and it took weeks to get my credit card charge refunded. I paid almost $90 for this tax software.

I have used TurboTax to prepare my family's taxes for years. I have always bought the physical copy of the program on disk, which comes with one state return, but this year decided to use the online option. In the past, I had the option of filing my federal return electronically for free, which I did. But, rather than pay TurboTax to electronically file my state return, I have always opted to print and file it myself. I saw no reason to pay $35+ extra for this service. This year, when I went through the online program, I understood that I would still need to pay $40 for the program when I was finished going through Turbo Tax Deluxe to prepare our federal and state taxes (3 hours of work), but I was really irritated when it came down to filing the federal return. There was no option to file the federal return separately. You have the option of filing the federal and state together for an extra $36, or you lose your state return information.
Essentially, I would need to go through the state return from scratch some other way (not on Turbo Tax). It is really deceptive that they only tell you this when you are all done with prep and ready to file. I'm backing out of the whole thing and purchasing the physical copy of the program as I've done in the past. I do not need to pay an extra $36 just to save the cost of printing, signing, and putting a stamp on my state return. I've been a faithful TurboTax customer, even recommending it to friends and family. I will not recommend the online option to anyone! Buy the disk!

I decided to use TurboTax for the first time and I will never use them again. I filled my return and it got accepted from the IRS. TurboTax sent me a confirmation email as well as an email just in case I got audited. They would provide me with an attorney, which I thought was pretty cool. It came with the package I purchased. Months went by and I did not receive my refund. I spoke to the representatives several times and they assured me it was on the way, and to keep checking the IRS website, but it never came. It just kept saying pending and I never received an audit letter. They then directed me to the third party they hired and they couldn't help me or give me answers to a solution.
After talking with TurboTax one last time they told me to call the IRS which if you have ever tried and got through and actually was told something that helped or solved your problem, you are one in a million. I obviously have a huge problem because I still haven't received my return and It's late January of the following year and TurboTax, as well as the third party they used, cannot provide me with any answers or help. If I used a local tax accountant this would have never happened. I have been using the local guy for a while and decided to try TurboTax for the ease, paying less got me much less, actually nothing in this case. I would go straight to your local tax accountant instead of TurboTax. If something goes wrong like with mine you can at least get some answers and the steps you need to take and not be left in the dark. On top of all this, the representative I spoke to last didn't even have access to my account.

TurboTax has really gone downhill. I am a tax preparer, and I have always used TurboTax to do my own taxes, but this time around I have had a terrible experience. First, as many reviews have stated, if you don't download your return right away, they will make you pay for it when you log back in. Rude. Second, there is incorrect information on the prompts, which could lead the average consumer to enter unnecessary personal information such as a driver's license or ID number - the IRS is not asking for state ID numbers, and if they do ask, it will be through a letter in the mail, only if they suspect fraud.
Third, the way the software makes you go so far into the preparation when you say you want the free version at the very beginning by visually showing that it is adding all of your information from last year (which is only available in the paid version), and then visually removing it (it rewinds backwards and removes the info in front of your very eyes and notes that it is removing all this information just entered because you are getting the free version) when you click the free version anyway, is really insulting. Fourth, in entering credit information, TurboTax question prompts do not always follow the actual rules regarding when you may claim a credit.
Therefore, just to have items accurately populate on the return, you have to do your own research utilizing the IRS instruction form for each credit type to figure out if you can claim a credit and if so, what documentation you need to substantiate the credit claim, (which I have but the TurboTax software does not ask for,) where those amounts would be entered on the credit form, and then figure out how to answer TurboTax's questions simply to make the return populate accurately. And I am a tax preparer! Imagine how someone would handle this without tax knowledge! Lastly, it is almost impossible to send an email or reach customer service without paying, as the website does not list any email contact information, and rather instructs that if you have a question, you may pay for support, or you may ask other users! Why would I do that, when I am using TurboTax?!
I would say, don't waste your time. It took me five tries just to get the correct information to populate on the finished product - the return that the IRS actually receives. Freetaxusa.com is great, and so is eztaxreturn.com. Additionally, the IRS allows free e-filing and even suggests software for the task, and many states are as well. I will not be using this software next year or any year after that. The only reason I went as far as I did this year was because I did not want to re-enter the information in a different software, but I was about to before I figured out how to use the software to make the return populate accurately. Get it together, TurboTax! And stop that insulting practice of entering last year's info only to remove it visually when you click the free version that you had every intention of using THE WHOLE TIME!

Do not pay for this service. When audited I followed the instructions given to me. However, I was asked for the wrong items needed for support. When I questioned this they then agreed and I had to start the process over. Reminder on a time clock to respond. When I brought this I was ignored. I have over 20 emails to this company, in their portal with no response. I would get a return call once in a while but mainly ignored. I was told not to directly work with the IRS and I complied. However, I do believe I would have had a quicker more accurate picture of what supporting documentation was needed. I am seriously in shock about the level of service I was not given and the nonchalant attitude when this was a huge deal to me.
I finally did get some adjusted. But then I was sent yet another letter and when I asked what was missed and why wasn't I explained all that was needed before this and the deadline I didn't get anything from Audit Defense but sign and send back. Filed my 2015 taxes using TurboTax with all current updates. In the process it claimed that I overpaid Social Security tax which increased my refund. Thought nothing of it since the software had been trustworthy for years before. Now, almost 2 years later I get a large bill from the IRS because I did not overpay in 2015, with interest. Upon calling TurboTax, the response I get is that it was a user error. Just google TurboTax and Social Security Excess combined and you will find hundreds of people with the same problem and Intuit responds every time with user error. They claim that joint filing users are accidentally inputting all W2s under one person. Sounds legit... over and over.
So since I kept the software I re-entered all of my 2015 data on a new clean computer not connected to the internet. The result was the same error. So I connected the computer to the internet and re-ran the data again, this time allowing the program to receive the latest updates... imagine that... the error no longer exists. I believe Intuit is covering their tracks. The CD cannot be changed... the proof exists. I understand that the excess refund was never mine and I have no problem paying it... other than the embarrassment and the pain it causes in my current finances. But, the company should admit its error and pay the interest for myself and everyone else that was affected by this error. So much for the "100% Guarantee."

I used the TurboTax Premier edition. I signed up for the Max add-on primarily for the audit protection because I teach in Asia. On the off chance I get audited, I don't want to have to deal with it from 6,000 miles away. The problem is, I don't want my tax return going to a 3rd party vendor I don't know anything about. (It's bad enough Equifax and Yahoo give my personal information away).
So here is how Turbo Tax uses their bait and switch tactic. FIRST you sign-up for the Max benefit; SECOND you make your payment; THIRD then they present you with the 3rd party agreement that your tax return will go to some company you've never heard of. You click on "I DON'T AGREE" and it says, "Ok, we will come back to that later", which they never do. Then I get an email the next day from the 3rd party vendor that now has my tax return that I didn't want them to have. Wouldn't it make sense to have the opt out for agreement BEFORE you pay.
Now, having the Max benefit includes "Priority Care". So when I called to cancel this add-on, they tell me to call the 3rd party vendor. I say, "No, I paid Turbo Tax. I want to talk to a supervisor there." "Sure, you can talk to a supervisor. They will call you back within 24 hours". I'm not holding my breath. I also called the corporate office. They care even less. I'm going to try H & R Block next year and see if they are any better.

I called IRS and asked how can that be. They looked into and found that it was a mistake and only my husband's income was put in. I then started questioning how can that be. I remember looking over all of our info 3 times myself and my husband looked at it one final time and then we submitted our return. IRS tells me to contact TURBO Tax and Turbo Tax's response is that I didn't input my income and they couldn't help. They stated that they didn't have any network issues during that time so it couldn't have been a system glitch.
I then called IRS back and spoke with another rep and she told me that they have had a lot of complaints about Turbo Tax. I just don't understand how they can just get away with all this and not own up to it. TurboTax Trash 2015 and 2016 - I have recently completed two tax returns online and have to tell you I will never use this software again. It crashes when you sync to the CRA website (required), the tax return then freezes for three days (which is not great if you're working to a deadline). It also insists on keeping moving expenses in as a required field even if that was last year's claimed expense. Then, it dumps everything inputted for "business use of home", and luckily - that I noticed - AND HAD TO RE-ENTER IT ALL OVER AGAIN! This program is garbage & there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. There is no customer service - no one to call - no trouble shooting from the company - just pages of "community feedback of users complaining - no tech responses with solutions"!!! GARBAGE.

I'll start by saying the failure of few products can impact you as much as this. More than six hundred dollars is not a simple *oopsie*. An initial TurboTax snafu resulted in my taxes not filing on time and late fees. Since that issue, the IRS has systematically audited every return going back 3 years. Their last audit uncovered another issue in which our TurboTax filing from two years ago credited us with "excess social security tax withholdings." The support representative told me "We see this happen commonly when users flip between Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately" — which of course I did, I'm not a tax expert and I wanted to compare to see which option I should go with. That's the reason I paid for and used the product.
Despite the fact that this is a known issue within the software experience (so much so that the representative described it to me without prompt,) I was told this is an input issue and that I could file a claim but that they were "sure TurboTax would deny it." Roll the dice on this product if you want, but I'm not a fan of gambling away $640; especially when I didn't know I was gambling.

Could not be more delighted to see this company's already extremely low rating - it is well deserved. I wanted an easy way to do my taxes, this was NOT it. They charged me for a simple tax return despite my income being well below the amount you should be charging someone for filing taxes. It was not clear that I would be charged for filing some medical expenses and filing for a tax return on my charitable donations until after I had submitted everything. At this point it just seemed easier to grit my teeth and pay... I think I may have been wrong.
Paying was a huge headache, as their system was not working and I talked to one incompetent customer service provider after another. Ultimately they charged me TWICE for something I really should not have had to pay for in the first place and despite continuing to leap through incompetent customer service individuals and conversations with literal robots on the phone, I have still not reached a person who can refund me my money.

At least the state should have been free anyway! If I would have known they were going to charge, I would have bought the program at Staples for $49.99 and gotten the state for free like I usually do. I receive a huge underpayment penalty fine from my state for 2016 year. Being shocked, I contacted TurboTax as to why. They said I didn't pay quarterly voucher payments and had an "underpayment penalty." I told them I did pay an underpayment penalty on their tax program (substantially less) and asked why TurboTax was in error and didn't issue me vouchers for 2016 year when they did for the Fed portion. They blamed it on me saying I didn't check a box saying I wanted vouchers. I told them, I didn't check a box saying I wanted Fed vouchers either but TurboTax issued them! (They issued state vouchers for me for 2017 - without my asking... "A day late and a dollar short").
I told them this was an error on their part and that I wanted TurboTax to stand behind their "100%" guarantee of accuracy and reimburse me for the fine. They refused blaming me. I tried to appeal their "hired" CPA's ruling but they have no appeal process. I found they have no process to arbitrate claims made by their customers. Their hired gun is judge, jury and executioner. Filed 2015 taxes late, thus shelled out around $30.00 to purchase TurboTax software on Amazon. The purchase price was to include completion and e-file of 2015 federal income tax, along with that of one state of my choice. I only make around $25,000 a year, and my deductions are pretty simple: EIC, Child Tax Credit, and a few work-related expenses. Really, I'm capable of doing the paperwork myself but it takes more time and patience than I can reasonably apply to the task.
Anyhow, after spending a couple hours inputting all the necessary information and having the program calculate federal tax along with tax for the State of Iowa, after all this, I was informed that I would have to pay a charge of $24.99 for state tax calculation. The program then put forth 4-5 pages of terms and conditions that are apparently different than those stated initially (each of which consisted of a bunch of convoluted legal jargon that I simply glanced over) and refused to proceed until I agreed to allow them to deduct $24.99 from my refund.
By this time my taxes were completed but I could not get the records nor file until I agreed to the deduction of the additional, unexpected fee. My refund was plenty enough to cover the expense and I really didn't want to have to start back at square one and recalculate taxes by hand. So, reluctantly, I agreed. Then I moved on to processing the e-filing. Once again the program refused to continue, now demanding yet another fee of $34.99 as well as agreement to another multi-page set of terms in order to proceed.
TurboTax software is not so great to begin with. To say the least it lacks clarity. And the "help" files are anything but helpful, in fact offering nothing at all would be more helpful. At least that would save me from wasting time closing and reopening the pop-up several more times, in disbelief, while attempting to grasp how any slightly reasonable person might come to consider a scant line or two of vague, non-information as being helpful. I had to search IRS website several times for very basic information, stuff I kinda knew but wanted to be absolutely certain about before proceeding.
Anyhow, by this time, all the unexpected fees and additional time spent stalled in frustration as well as glancing over pages upon pages of legal muck, by this time I just wanted it over with. 2015 was already a difficult year financially, due to medical illness and misdiagnosis that continued well into 2016 (thus the late filing). The refund would make it possible to catch up on some bills and was more than enough to cover the additional, unexpected costs.
So I told myself to get it over with, and that I'd get a hold of TurboTax later in the week and address matters regarding the wrongful fees. Down inside I suspected I was fooling myself, but the deadline for 2016 taxes was approaching and I don't have eons of free time to deal with this stuff. No doubt they were counting on that. So, against my better judgment, I went ahead and agreed to the terms along with an additional deduction from my refund of $34.99 for the e-filing. This brought the cost of processing 2015 taxes up from the reasonable price of $30, up to around the very absurd expense of $90. But wait, it gets worse.
For that price I could've paid to have a seasonal tax specialist handle it. Better yet, based upon my income bracket, although I was late in filing, still I probably could've had it handled for free. However, I bought the software at the end of 2015, well out of tax season, at which time freebie specialists weren't available; and I didn't realize four more months would pass before opportunity to use it would present itself.
Anyhow, I proceeded, and the program indicated all was well, right up until I was informed that the IRS rejected the e-filing! I was informed that I'd have to mail the paperwork, no reason nor address was given. Keep reading, it gets worse... way worse. So, in silent frustration I looked up the address and mailed the 2015 return, all the while wondering whether or how many times it might be kicked back. After that I moved on, like a fool, through TurboTax, preparing 2016 income taxes... like a fool, but not quite a full-fledged, gullible idiot.
Now, my 2015 refund was to be sizable, that is according to a broke person's perspective. Based upon 2014 income and refund, seemed to me 2015 should've been quite a bit larger. But then I thought, maybe, since I made a little more money, since I'd managed to inch above the poverty line, maybe that moved me into a different bracket or something. I should've looked into it.
Anyhow, I proceeded with 2016 taxes, whereas early on a refund of around $4900 was indicated, and then for no apparent reason it dropped to around $2000. Hmmm... By this time my faith in TurboTax had already morphed into distrust and resentment as I kept feeling need but lacked time for thorough scrutiny. 2016 was nearly complete when voice of intuition (or whatever else you want to call it) grew so loud and demanding that I couldn't continue. Instead, I went back to IRS website and decided to take a chance elsewhere, with another tax service, just for sake of comparison I told myself. I so wish I'd done that or found some other alternative before sending in 2015 taxes. I mean, 2015 isn't finalized yet, so I can't say at this point whether it would've turned out better, or worse, or different in any way. Chances are it wouldn't have been worse, to say the least. This time around I selected H&R Block's web-based tax service.
Whereas each of the last few years using TurboTax brought about a spike in frustration and to feeling as though I just wanted it over with, upon completion of 2016 taxes through H&R Block's free file I felt as though I hadn't suffered enough. In fact, I hadn't suffered at all. I processed federal income taxes along with two states, all without any attempts at squeezing me for additional money. H&R's Help files were actually very helpful, leaving no need to refer to IRS website. Best of all, I'm getting back over $4000, around $2000 more than TurboTax calculated. That's awesome!
Only one problem. I'm unable to e-file once again. I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the 2015 filing prepared via TurboTax, which was sent by mail just a few weeks ago. Could be it's just slow to be processed. Could be the evil, greedy TurboTax demons miscalculated? Or maybe they're attempting to squeeze that extra sixty bucks out of my return. (I mailed the returns alone, each without the extra ten or so page ** agreement, whereas I was pushed to pay more money than agreed upon initially, by purchasing and using the software.) Hard to know what the problem is at this point. However, I'm all but absolutely certain that in some way or another there's some kind of Turboturnabout going on.
Bottom line (excuse the pun), look at it like this, working through TurboTax is comforting as a lengthy bout of constipation, after which H&R is like the laxative that's desperately needed. One way or another you gotta get through the tax **. So, take your pick. You want it to be slow and ongoing, and leaving you to feel as if something other than a bowel movement is taking place? Or do you want it over with quickly, painlessly, and so you can get on with life? In all, if you want your taxes calculated fast, clearly, reasonably, and correctly, go to H&R Block free file. If, instead of having your taxes calculated, after reading all this, if you're looking to be TurboTaxed again and again, then by all means, you know where to go. Either way, best of luck, hope this helps.

After all I can get the exact same lack of service and for free through other sites. So here is the gist.
The IRS sent my refund to the bank on April 12th and here we find ourselves at May 3rd with guess what. Still no money. It has taken me since weeks just to find out where my money actually was. Apparently TurboTax uses Santa Barbara bank to extract their ridiculous fees and then your money is sent to NetSpend which by the way no one at NetSpend thought to mention as they have been giving me the run around for weeks.

My review/experience with TurboTax. Good: Price: For what it is I'd say the price is great. CPA: The idea that you have one at this price is awesome. Desktop: Having the program to save various scenarios is extremely valuable. I'd recommend it just for this reason. Furthermore this program has a lot of very nice features in it and has a lot of good referenceable information. So this is very much a good idea just to be able to play with your numbers, save, and make another new scenario.
Bad: Contacting: More often than not I can get through, they need my email on my profile that won't verify. Not sure why as my email hasn't changed, but without verification I can't get a support code, without support code the system often won't let me talk to anyone. Not sure why this is a problem, however this needs to be addressed.
Filing: Federal filed nicely and paid as it was supposed to. Whereas State Tax boot looped and took over an hour to figure out the right combination to get the form to submit. This is forgivable as it was addressed, and fixed. What didn't work was paying the IRS and then being told to give it time. The program never paid out. Verified that with the IRS resulting in a fine. Had I waited as told this would have been a bigger penalty and I doubt TurboTax will pay for my penalty.
Technical issue: Time lost (cost 5 hrs trying to fix program boot loop, being on hold). Charged twice: Charged twice for State Tax form. They tried to refund me but that did work out... I gave up and will likely hire a CPA this year just based on the hold time and inability to speak with the TurboTax CPA. Kind of makes that feature pointless when you can't get through and spend hours trying. Time-wise it's just better to get yourself a CPA. This would be one charge, little to no hold time, and you get everything you expect (or should). Conclusion: Having the program to work with is worth it, but for the amount of time I spent trying to finish things I could have easily just paid a CPA. So buying this program isn't a bad idea at all. But I wouldn't recommend actually relying on it for one's taxes.

Since Deluxe included speaking to an agent and I didn't know if I could start over and not have the same or another glitch - I paid. Now try to find any possible way to contact that promised agent! No phone number - actually they give the IRS phone number only! And no chat option!!! Just looping endlessly through their ridiculous customer question forums! I have used this software to complete our returns for several years. You used to just pay the software fee and as long as you were filing electronically there were no additional costs. Now you pay for the software, you pay to file and you pay a "convenience fee" of 2.4% to use your credit card to pay the IRS (if you owe vs. receiving a refund). They also don't provide all of the schedules in your pdf anymore. Last year our return was approx 130 pages... this year it was 12 pages and 4 of those included estimated tax forms for this year to send with estimated tax payments should we choose to do so. This is unfortunate as we plan to have our taxes done by an accountant next year. We clearly didn't save any money doing it ourselves and I will be happy to not have the headache next year.

When I began with TurboTax almost 10 years ago, the product was simple, intuitive, and very useful. However, starting with the second year, it's been one problem after another. TurboTax has gotten manipulative and sneaky about how they validate their charges. In the beginning, no charge was made without you selecting to add a new version or charge. Now, charges are added willy nilly without your express consent. TurboTax is supposed to for non-accountant types and they are doing all they can to sneak by you with fees. When you request explanation, it's because "Well, you have this income, so you need this new form. This new form means an upgrade." That may make you money because people don't bother to look into it, but it's poor business if you want to keep customers.
This year was the worst for me. I was "upgraded" multiple times for no reason. I spoke with an "expert" 3 times and 2 out of 3 told me I didn't need the version I was being given while the third wasn't sure. In addition, while kind and they were less than helpful. They didn't seem to know much. I don't think I will be using this program again next year and I definitely will not be recommending it any longer.

The Federal "free" edition is only free if you don't itemize. If you don't itemize, why do you need Turbo Tax to figure your taxes? If you do the free edition, all your info is in their server, and servers can be hacked. Might as well just download the IRS forms and get out a pencil. If you do itemize, the cost is actually reasonable if you don't add the state tax return. You can download your state's forms and fill them in using the numbers from your Turbo Tax forms. And there's no need for the CD if you do your return online. Saves you lots of $$. And if you don't sign up for the help with an audit that you probably won't need you save more $$. If you sign up for audit help every year, after several years, you've paid for audit help you never got.
All the telephone help I've gotten has been (a) HELPFUL and (b) nice. Very nice people on the other end. A relief if you've been wrestling with the government's idea of logic. Most of the time filling in info and letting their computer do all the figuring is straightforward. But some of it is confusing. And their promise to get you the biggest refund -- they didn't ask me if I was qualified for an energy tax credit, which I am because I put in a new gas hot water heater last year. I accidentally found this out on my own in a last-ditch review where I clicked on everything.
Customer service: Here it is the day before the filing deadline. I have the right to file up to the deadline, no? And I pay Turbo Tax to figure my taxes and e-file for me. But I have a couple of questions that could get me almost $300 more in refund (it looks like TT made some mistakes) and I'm having to wait TWO HOURS for a callback. I'm sure Turbo Tax isn't going to go bankrupt if they hire ENOUGH PEOPLE to let everyone get a callback within 20 minutes. So for that part of their customer service, they suck, thus the Dissatisfied rating.

I am very dissatisfied with the Turbo Tax process. Preparing the forms was easy enough but then they add on fees to deduct their charges from your tax return. They make it impossible to just do the federal once the state return has been prepared. Even though they say you can delete the state return, I could not. Their payment process does not allow you to not pay an extra $40 for the state return either. I would NOT RECOMMEND TurboTax to anyone unless I hated them.

I've used TurboTax for many years with minimum to no problems. This year was a very different story. I've purchased the Deluxe package for several years because our taxes are complex. We have multiple sources of income, lots of charities, etc. and this year sold some securities due to buying a house, so I made sure that I spent a lot of time putting in data as I got the information from various sources, as in past years. On Friday morning, April 15, just as taxes are due, after weeks and many hours of work on our taxes, I got ready to file. As I access TurboTax, it updates automatically as usual, but this time it tells me that there's an error somewhere and therefore I cannot access anything that has been entered before. I have to start all over again.
To make matters even worse, as I try to enter any new information, it won't let me save anything, so if I walk away for a few minutes and shut the program down, whatever has been entered will be lost. I can only do temporary copies. Needless to say I spent the entire day, roughly 10 hours, working on my taxes nearly continuously until I could print them that evening. I had to print because as I tried to file electronically it told me, after gathering all of our security information and credit card information, that I had to do a save before it would file electronically. Obviously we are going to be looking for alternatives to TurboTax next year.

TURBO TAX is DECEITFUL. Will NOT transfer files. Makes huge errors. I bought TurboTax thinking it was priced better than TAX Act which I used in the past and it should transfer all past taxes. Why? Because it specifically said on the box that it downloads ALL previous tax software. NOT TRUE! I spend HOURS and HOURS trying various methods of download, all of them ending in, "Sorry the download can't be done." What??!
I used the, 'suggest file type', the size was fine etc. This is deceit and wasted my time and money. Will NEVER use TurboTax again! I have NO respect for them! I reported this and customer service NEVER wrote, called, nothing. Could care less. NOT TO MENTION the product is terrible, not catching duplicated entries, even with large swings of my tax due in just an hour! It was not able to identify many entries I made even in the right blank they provided! And it did not allow me to label an entry as the federal tax form allows us to when I need to show WHY something is exempt. It also will not let me go into most of the worksheets to change an entry! I had to totally delete forms and start over to reset one tiny item! This is terrible, terrible. Wasted 4x as much time as compared to using TAX ACT. In the future I will gladly pay more and will NEVER EVER use TURBOTAX again. They should owe me money back for its error-prone calculations and waste of my time.

As a Single Member LLC I successfully stumbled through TT Business and TT H&B for 3 years, (zero tax preparers in community) then discovered the 4th year TT program couldn't find the previous years info. And I was trying to file early but hit a road block. Took me 6 months to see year three got save to a .txt file. That's a little land mine up under 'save as' if you're in a hurry, where I guess I had been, I mistakenly clicked that. There's no way to recover or resave and people on the forum, responding, were clueless. And that little 'save text' option isn't always up there. I've needed to hire a CPA to transfer all the information from a PDF file.
Check your file sizes in PC documents and look for small numbers, like, 28kb. 2 years got saved that represented a couple pages of the whole TT tax year. No, not the whole thing. I had to bring up the TT program, the 28kb, then stumble around and somehow end up in print where magically the whole set of tax forms, now, could be seen, then click to save and not print. There I see a TT generated, long, complicated, defaulted file name that I had to rewrite. Meaning, about half of the program files were completely saved, the other half got partially saved.
2 comprehensive TT Business filings, (same year) and for whatever reason saved twice and a good thing. One had 6 depreciation/projection schedules, the other one didn't. Real similar file names but I had to scroll through both documents to see which one had those schedules. I, again, had to rewrite a file name. (If) you're a SMLLC, like me, figuring out which program best suits you is a gauntlet and ridiculously unclear. You gotta buy it to read it. Once deep into TT Business, the program told me I needed TT H&B. Then, I'd stop and work on a credit and would get one. But, deep into TT H&B it would tell me I'd should be using TT Business. I'd go back and buy that again.
For three years I prepared both programs and successfully sent them off. But, TT has got my stuff so screwed up, mainly in the internal file saving steps, I've had to outsource another service to clean it up. TT has way too many land mines for new users. They should be paying users as consultants to weed out the faults their programs have.

They placed the utterly untrue statement on their website that getting this info from the IRS costs $50 and takes 75 days, when it's actually free and takes 15 minutes if you have a mobile phone with a major provider (unfortunately we don't), and takes 5-10 days otherwise (unfortunately I procrastinated). This is just the latest in a pattern of adding charges without warning after their users have already committed time and effort to their product.

My question wasn't something the "first-line" representative could answer, so she said she would send me to a specialist and the hold would be about 17 minutes. (She was very polite.) After waiting for 1 hour 13 minutes, the system just hung up on me. I had the phone plugged in on speaker and didn't touch it.
Called back. Went through the same thing again except for when the second lady transferred me, she must have pushed a wrong button, sending me into an automated system. It asked me for a phone number associated with my account, OTHER THAN THE PHONE I WAS CALLING FROM. What??? Why would I call from a different number? It asked for a case number, which was not given to me. It finally hung up on me.
I called back really frustrated and the last lady I talked to was nothing like the first. She met my frustration with gusto, she gave it right back. I haven't encountered a ruder customer representative anywhere. Not even a DMV employee. Nowhere. I asked her for her name (Valerie **) and employee ID. She said they don't give out employee IDs or last names. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said they don't do that. She then transferred me back to the automated service before giving me my case number, which I requested. Back to square one. Except for Square One is to either switch to the H & R Block software or go somewhere in person tomorrow.
It's now 4:00 pm, I started at 12 and all I've done is waste time and become infuriated. I've never heard of a company where an employee won't identify themselves via some kind of employee ID number and won't allow you to talk to a supervisor. No wonder she felt so comfortable being rude and hanging up on me; there's absolutely no system in place in which employees can be held accountable!!! Hopefully, my experience will help someone else. TurboTax is ripping people off with their "Premium" charges. If you google "TurboTax charged me for premium services when I didn't want it", you will see many many people who got beat out of their hard earned money. As I was working on my tax return, the software keeps popping up an ad asking if the taxpayer wants to purchase "Premium bundle" which would allow auditing help. This message pops up about 10x's throughout. Because my taxes are not complicated, I keep declining.
Well Turbotax waited until I was 99% done and wouldn't let me finalize anything until I said "yes" to get out of the cycle. Then the IRS sent me a letter asking for a document regarding my mortgage credit allowance. Of course TurboTax sends me an email stating they want to be paid because I wasn't able to obtain my refund. First they sent me an email asking for $74 before April 6th and then they just deducted $111 out of my checking. I called Turbotax and they stated that because my tax return was processed online, I couldn't get the refund for the Premium. I asked to speak with a manager and was told there were no managers available and that they would take my information and have a manager contact me. Three (3) days later and no call.
What TurboTax doesn't realize is that it is quite easy for me to use plenty of other tax return software next year, which I plan to do. As many businesses that are closing these days, why does TurboTax think they can scam people and not pay a price. When companies taste success, they turn around and start ripping off the same people that helped to make them successful. I have been using TurboTax for the last few years, and each year the experience is more frustrating. The Intuit company motto seems to be, "Each year less for more." I have watched their prices rise each year and the quality of their products decline. I know a lot of people write negative reviews in the heat of the moment, but I assure you that I bear no ill will towards this company. I feel it is my duty to report my experience, and then you can make up your own mind whether or not you want to take a chance with them.
My taxes, this year, were fairly straightforward. I am retired, receiving Social Security benefits, and for a few months I drove for Uber. So I had to purchase their most expensive program, the Home & Business software, and I chose to purchase the CD vs. a download. The computer I initially tried to use is a MacBook Pro. The program seemed to load properly, and I immediately got a message that there were updates to download. However when I tried to download the updates, I kept receiving an error message with the instructions, "Please try again later." It was then that I remembered I went through the same thing last year. Ultimately I had to load the program onto an old Gateway laptop I have which was running Windows 7. But, I thought to myself, "Surely they have fixed that problem over the last year," so I went ahead and began working on my 2016 return.
I finally completed the return and the program prompted me to begin the filing process. The first pop-up message I got was that I could not file at this time because I was missing the necessary tax forms. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the necessary tax forms were part of the update that wouldn't download. Wouldn't you think, that a program whose only purpose in the world is to file income tax, would include the necessary tax forms to do so? Baffling.
So, since these updates still wouldn't download, I called TurboTax Help. The first lady I spoke with was quite nice and seemed reasonably concerned with my problem. She walked me through their entire troubleshooting list with no results. It was during this 1 hour phone call that I began to lose all hope in this program I had chosen to simplify filing my tax return. The nice lady suggested that she send me another download of the entire program, which she did. When I loaded the program, it asked me if I wanted to replace the current 2016 program I had saved or to save both. Remember, all of my 2016 data was already filled out on the existing program. So I clicked the "Save both" tab. Unfortunately, and much to my horror, the download erased all of the saved entries. It was then that I realized that I had a serious problem, and so does TurboTax.
So, I pulled out my old Gateway, still running Windows 7, and loaded the TurboTax software onto it. Same message about updates popped up, but they downloaded without a problem. And, sure enough, all the tax forms were part of these updates. I wonder what else I downloaded? Then I started all over again and a couple of hours later had the return filled out. It was quite a bit faster the second time around, although I don't recommend doing it twice. Next, the program told me that I was ready to file, and it recommended e-filing, which I had done in the past. Of course, it takes almost as long to e-file as it does to fill out the return because TurboTax wants to take out every last cent it can from you. Advertisement after advertisement pops up during the filing process, before it will actually let you click the "Submit" button.
As it turned out, I owed $365 to the Feds, so I gave TurboTax my credit card info and hit "Submit." About an hour later I got an email telling me that my Federal return had been rejected as well as my State (California) return. The reason it gave was that either the AGI (Adjust Gross Income) from 2015 or my PIN number were in error. As part of the filing process, TurboTax asks for a lot of information and these two items are among that info.
Now, TT prompts me to correct the errors and resubmit. I go to my 2015 return and copy the AGI (again) and try a different PIN number (which TurboTax tells me I can simply make up). How can a PIN number that I just made up be wrong? So, I give them a different credit card, just in case that was part of the problem, and I resubmit the return. An hour later, I get the same rejection notice. So, I go back to my 2015 tax folder and find the PIN I used last year, and again go back to my return and copy my AGI. Of course, you know the end result, a third rejection. I am, at this point, pretty frustrated with my $100 software purchase. I decide to print out my return and file by mail. That seems to go okay. For their grand finale, I discovered sometime later that TurboTax has taken $365 out of each credit card account, even though the returns were rejected.

Three times now the IRS has supposedly rejected my return in less than an hour after sending through TurboTax. The first time was I allegedly screwed up my birth date. Okay, maybe? Now twice it claims my spouse's PIN or AIG number isn't the same as last year's record wit the IRS.
We've never E-filed before!!! There shouldn't be any previous PIN for either of us!!! It hasn't rejected mine PIN yet keeps rejecting my wife's which is just as new this year as mine!!! I believed this is a scam to force me to buy their insurance and also pay to file the state taxes. I'm a first time customer and this has been a total pain in the butt so far! Unless I can file the Federal through snail mail without any problems now I'm totally done with TurboTax!!!

I have used TurboTax for the last 3 years and have never had a problem until this year. I filed in January and still haven't received my refund, which the IRS said was deposited into a bank account mid February. I had to have a trace done on it by the IRS because no one can seem to locate it and TurboTax feels no responsibility to help. I have talked to multiple customer service representatives some of which have hung up on me mid call and others which have plain lied to me about how certain are done. In addition I chose to have my fee taken out of my refund and since I have not received it they charged my bank account. I found out today they charged me almost double the fee. I HIGHLY recommend using another company to do your taxes. They are far from helpful and only care that they get their money, even if that means putting you through hell.

Never gives me a price that they are going to charge my card, federal was supposed to be free, state $39.99. Charge card was charged $101.63. I guess this is the old bait and switch. Wanted to add a deduction for a small deduction to a royalty payment and it demanded money to do that -- horrible experience. Endless loops of questions and no way to fix anything or go directly to what you want. Wouldn't let me enter a Roth contribution without paying a lot more money. Free cost... over $100 when done. Worst experience ever. Never use again. Got free online version that cost a huge amount.

I began my taxes, reluctantly, as they've changed Home and Business to Self-Employed, but managed to get through it. Unfortunately, the fees kept piling up as I was going along. The price I originally agreed to was left far behind as they added more and more to the cost. The final straw was the $38 or $39 to be able to deposit the funds to my own account(?!). I used to like TurboTax as I found them straightforward and helpful. As a result of this experience, I am no longer a user of this brand. I wish they would not have gone the way of other internet business with using a hook and then once you've completed the process, finding you owe several hundred dollars - in my case $300. I returned to TurboTax after taking a few years off out of frustration with many anti-customer choices deliberately built in to the product. Now I remember why I left and shall never return. The good part is that the interview method works pretty well IF you get everything right and trust what is going on behind the scene. The bad is that if you make a mistake, or want to change an entry, it is ridiculously difficult to do so. For example, I wanted to see what our taxes would look like if we claimed our adult son as a dependent (he was in school, so he qualified) versus letting him claim himself as an exemption (also legal). I could not, despite hours of trying, get TurboTax to do this. I could remove him, but the return did not actually change.
There is no clear way to go back and change information. You should be able to go directly to the form and change an entry, but no. You can bring up the form, but not make changes. I wound up saving one version and completely redoing a second version (via the Q&A, what a pain to re-enter all that info). And I still don't really know what difference it made. I wound up just calculating the impact on my own based on the effective tax rate. And forget about talking to a rep; even though the Deluxe (a misnomer) version claims 24/7 access to help, that is only to the online forums and or Intuit's not useful help. For example, no search produced a discussion of how to go back and change information or correct - only how to amend an already-filed return.
And when you go to finish the process, you are pushed into e-filing and buying the audit protection. I declined the protection but entered my and my wife's info for e-filing only to discover that suddenly I would be charged another $50 or so - on top of the $50 I already paid. That is pure scam. Nothing in the promotional materials makes you aware that you have to pay extra to e-file. Shame on you, Intuit. Shame on me if I ever buy TurboTax again.

I will never use the services of TurboTax again. Firstly, it is impossibly frustrating just to fight through their initial answering service to simply get to the next level; a machine which cannot seem to understand anything said no matter how carefully formed the are words, nor can it recognize even simple, clearly spoken letters. What's more, when it finally did seem to give up and transfer me onward, I never did receive any worthwhile help nor adequate answers to my questions from representatives. They did not seem to know what they were doing nor could they answer the simplest, straightforward questions. All they seemed concerned with was ending the call so they could get on to the next caller.
I've been using this company for years, but this year, 2017, they've become altogether different. I offered to pay a qualified tax person to advise me throughout, of which I've done in years past and have been very happy with. But not this year! That seemed an impossible thing for them to do. Regardless that I, again offered to pay an additional fee. I believe many mistakes were made. At the point I knew one may well be happening, I asked the representative if I should do this or that. The representative seemed to have no clue, but did make it clear she would leave me at this point, as "the program will walk you through the rest from here." And that was that. She was gone.
I will not finish my 207 return with TurboTax. I believe there were mistakes made; I tried to call tonight, and I spend a good I will take my taxes to be done 15 minutes fighting with the answering machine once more. "I did not understand you. I cannot help you if you don't tell me exactly what you need!" Gad! And then? I'm told I'll be on the phone for 90 minutes before I can talk to someone. Yesterday, I was told it would be an hour and a half, and I ended up waiting for three hours.
I will be doing my taxes again here locally. At least I'll have someone to actually talk to that knows what they're doing; plus, I won't have to fight with a machine I cannot navigate through, no matter what is said, before I even get a chance to talk to someone, if I ever do. Secondly, when I do finally manage to talk to a live person, they'll know what they're talking about and won't, at least, appear to be trying to get me off the phone so they can just get on to the next caller.

The IRS is receiving incorrect information which contradicts what is being reported on my W-2. After experiencing this issue in 2014 I made sure to pay $54.99 for the software on April 11, 2016 to have access to all my previous filings (to see where the mistake was on the form filed from year 2014) and to AVOID this issue for my filing for the year of 2015 and yet again it happened!!! I paid for and used TurboTax for 2 years and had problem when I had to ask for assistance. Completing taxes in their program this year showed a possible entry error that could have been in last year's taxes as well. To resolve this I needed to reopen my last year's taxes. TurboTax was going to charge me $44 to be able to open my own 2015 tax file in the TurboTax program. It took over an hour and a half on the phone for them to ultimately allow me to open my file, and I did not have to pay $44. The bigger problem; their customer service person did not understand my issue or how to help and would not allow me to get help from a supervisor or person with other experience. This person repeatedly did not understand me and could not navigate their own system or resolve my issue.
While talking with this person I could clearly hear another person talking with them discussing my issue. I asked to work with the person supporting the service person I was talking with and the person I was working with denied there was any other person and continued to refuse to allow me to work with anyone else or to get to a supervisor. It came down to getting me an add in file but they could not get the file to transfer to me on the site. I ended up fixing the problem myself; their person, who was supposed to be there to help me, did not know how to use their own program and worse would not allow me to work with someone else who may have been able to resolve the issue readily. It was a terrible experience and unnecessary waste of my time. Looking back someone from TurboTax who was actually familiar with their product could have resolved my issue in minutes.
My current experience is that TurboTax has unqualified support personnel and other than working together against the customer they do not coordinate or work with each other; I found TurboTax support personnel to be a dysfunctional group and this was an unnecessarily bad experience for me. It is disturbing that they acted together against the interests of a customer.

I have used TurboTax 2017 for many years and discovered this year that I could no longer use my Windows XP laptop to do the taxes. No big deal, I would just use my wife's Windows 7 laptop. Even though the program said Windows 7 compatible, it would not load. Error message stated that a Windows 7 operating system was required and the computer in question was not compatible with the program. After several frustrating attempts and making sure all Windows 7 updates were applied, I just gave up. I loaded the program to our business computer, a Windows 8 machine, and after having to update the program manually, was finally off and running. No automatic updates were ever successfully downloaded. Upon completion and after review, I printed the forms out and e-filed the forms to the IRS.
Several weeks later, I looked at my bank statement and the automatic deposit from the IRS was totally different than what was expected. I went back to the program and upon opening the file, sure enough the numbers had changed. I further explored the program and discovered that an amount was entered into the Traditional IRA that was the same as the Roth IRA contribution I did enter. I deleted the wrong entry and then finished the forms and saved the file that looked like what I had printed originally. I then tried to access the amended return section, only to discover the program automatically goes back into the return and does not allow you to access the amend a return section. Additionally, re-entering the return resulted in the exact same entry being duplicated on the traditional IRA again. I left it alone and called Turbotax.
When I finally got to an agent, she did not know how to get the amend section from within the program. She linked to my computer and couldn't find the amend section. I accidentally hung up the cellphone and did not call back. Finally I went to the file where the documents are stored and moved all of the files to a separate file leaving the Turbotax document file empty. When I re-entered the program, the amend section was then available and I was able to search for the wrong file, load it and make the appropriate corrections and print a form 1040x to send to the IRS. This was painful this year, and I would give zero stars if possible.
Turbotax support is essentially non-existent. Any messages about updates, not loading, program not recognising the computer that is supposed to be compatible, or problems within the program, only get a standard bs response that in most cases does not even answer the question. This is my last year to use Turbotax. They are riding on their past reputation only, and don't seem to have a support network of people who know the program inside and out and can actually solve problems. It is a shame as this used to be an easy to use program and made tax season less stressful.

I have used TurboTax for several years. I have tax filing experience back to the days of the pencil (several years retired now)! I have to say that they are good if you don't know what you're doing, just follow the questions. But I would like to at least view the forms because there are nuances that the questions DO NOT cover.
However, my problem is that they are so busy hyping all their extras, add-ons, and other products which show up at every turn in such proliferation and "busy" text that it is literally impossible to know what you are getting. It starts on the first page with "file FREE" which must be a lie. I clicked on the FREE button and ended up paying, to my surprise, $119 plus the FREE state return for $39. I am neither an idiot, uneducated, or stupid. I agree, somewhere I had to have clicked the wrong button but ** if I know where or when. You even have to go through several pages of questions and ads to get to the point where the return can be printed (58 pages, should have been about 8) or to view the return. I viewed it and used "file", "save" and saved it to the computer where I can print only what I want.
In the end there is a very confusing set of instructions on how to pay. That's where I saw the $119 + $39 cost. I was charged with the "self-employed" package. I do have some remains of a small business but the income was a paltry $136. And while I filled out the home office form there wasn't enough in it to change my taxes. It certainly wasn't enough to pay for the extra $59 it cost over the Deluxe package. Another cost added in a confusing manner is a 3(?) dollar cost to get your refund sent to your bank.
There is also a way to get the IRS to send refunds to your account at no cost but the way this all comes down is VERY confusing. I actually refused the offer to pay for TT from my refund and used my credit card instead because the text was so confusing. I just knew if I hit any "start" button I would be charged the $3 dollar fee for getting my $57 refund!!! I wonder how many were charged to have a TurboTax affiliate send it to their bank for a ridiculous fee?? I had a little problem with this last year but this year it was ridiculous. You're even bombarded with these "choices" each time you sign in to work on the taxes. I am very displeased and very disappointed. I won't use them again. I have never been so horrified by the mis-advertising and fraud of a company. TurboTax draws you in by saying "start for free." And they quote you a price, like "$59.99." The "start for free" is a perk for THEM, not the consumer--because for every day you are using the software, your price will go up. If you take 2 weeks to do your taxes, like I did, the price will increase to almost double ($95.99) without them ever informing you that the price will go up. What logic could possibly support them charging you when you stop using their software, instead of when you start using it? It's as though a restaurant charged you more at the end of the meal than when you sat down and ordered! It works entirely in their benefit--because you've already spent 8 hours filling in all your information, so you aren't going to stop and not pay to file. It's intentional false advertising and fraud and it's disgusting.

Talked with customer support, who transferred me to a supervisor, who took 10+ minutes while I was patiently waiting on hold to try to find some fine print that you can't even get to while logged in. (He struggled to find it then told me to log out first, then I can find it.) That still didn't state that you would be charged for going through the questions to get to filing your federal taxes, even though that was pretty much unavoidable.
Despite me being polite and reasonable throughout the conversation, the moment he got on the phone with me he was rude, sarcastic and made quite a few very condescending remarks about how I'm unable to comprehend instructions on the website. I politely asked him to just show me where it says I would be charged if I didn't file state tax, but he ended the conversation by hanging up on me. I have honestly never experienced worse customer service. TurboTax and Intuit is definitely not about transparency or customer service at all. Very dishonest. Bait and switch. If you use them make sure you know if there are any issues, you are on your own.

FILING AN INCOME TAX RETURN WITH TURBOTAX IS ACTUALLY PAINFUL! TurboTax does not let us see the tax returns until after they are sent! Turbotax failed to enter a 2015 credit to my estimated tax to my 2016 return. As a result an amended return was required. I spent almost an hour with your representative before the matter was corrected... Then, I had to file an amended return.
When I tried to file the return, I was unable to print it!! Called TurboTax, the representative told me how to download the amended form 1040X... The download consisted of 58. Yes 58 pages most all having to do with "Terribletaxes" preparation of the return... There should have been no more than 9 pages. All TurboTax needed to do was to let the filer see the return before it was filed and a correction could have been instantly made without any need to file an amended return. Had I a choice between using TurboTax again or being hit by a semi truck, it would be less painful to choose the semi.

I made several phone calls yesterday and today 3/24/17 and received the same message every time, "We are closed at the moment, our hours are 8:00AM and 12:00PM Monday through Friday, please call back again". I was calling on a Thursday and Friday between 8 and 12 and always received this message. I even went on the internet and requested a "callback" which was made however when the robo-call said it was transferring to the tax experts I was asked to press 3 if I no longer needed help otherwise remain on the call. This happened 3 times and I was ultimately hung up on. TurboTax has no in person support via phone or chat and is lying when it says it is available. I have been trying to file my 2016 return with TurboTax where I was able to speak to a representative to find out WHY THAT FILE WAS BEING REJECTED. Was advised I would have to file a paper claim and discuss with federal IRS.
However, I discovered my 2015 federal return was REJECTED and I was not notified by TURBO TAX ONLINE to this! So I have gone a YEAR not knowing this was an issue, however this years are too being rejected and the ISSUE IS YOU CAN'T CONTACT THEM TO FIND OUT WHY I WAS CHARGED FOR FILING WHEN IT WAS REJECTED A YEAR AGO!!! They do not make it simple for anyone to contact them! You have to pay some fee to reach them even though their bogus product isn't working!!! I should not have been charged in 2015 for a file that was rejected!

I hate to divorce TurboTax, I've used them for more than a decade but they have become too clever by half. They removed the "Print Center" from the 2016 CD version. As a result, I cannot print a complete copy of my 2016 return with all worksheets and backups. Perhaps, I'll never need them but my experience is that hard copies of significant documents are valuable. I just spent two hours visiting three customer service reps. Two had no idea of what they were doing; the third was very helpful but finally gave up. She could not find a answer even after asking other people. I don't need the aggravation of a product which is continually upgraded until many valuable features are left out. Goodbye TurboTax!

My wife and I spent hours on Sunday filling out all are information to file our taxes via (TURBOTAX PREMIER). We hit send and 3 of the 4 files went through. My Net File for Quebec has an XML error. We called customer support not once, not twice but three times without any resolution. All 3 times we were on the phone for up to 3 hours with no resolution in sight. All said we would be escalated which never happened. No call backs. We were even disconnected after 2 1/2 hours.
Needless to say we are frustrated as know we must file the return by regular mail which delays our return check. We are requesting a refund as we were unable to completely file and many hours were lost. Despite the agent attempting to figure out what the problem was, it was obvious the agents are alone at home working remotely with no support other than the same searches we see available online. This was our first attempt to file our taxes ourselves via a software and end up paying and still waiting as ours had no choice but to send in the mail. We are very disappointed on the process and product. Computer glitch we understand, zero resolution we don't. Please refund our credit card the full amount as the product did not deliver as advertised.

I'm an 18 year user/buyer of TurboTax software and extremely unhappy with the software this year. There is absolutely NO way to print a copy of my tax return prior to filing it no matter how hard I try. After working at this for an hour I still come up short, and I am not about to file my returns without double checking them in hard copy. I am also unable to get any help online - all the responses lead to dead ends, and one cannot contact Intuit directly about this problem, either.
My husband is a software genius so I will have to wait for him to help me figure this out, but this situation has me so frustrated I've decided not to buy TurboTax again. I'm done. The print problem is the icing on the cake for me... The software used to be so flexible I could work my way through it without any problems, but that's changed also - I've had to struggle to review entries I've made in order to verify them. Unacceptable. Confusing software, no print option, crappy online Help service, NO corporate help site adds up to apathy on Intuit's part. I will take my business to their competitors and be very happy about it.

It almost doubled in price, with very explanation and no notice from the company. Second, I was duped into connecting federal and state at the very end of the process. It was my fault for going too fast, but there was no way to go back. It cost $40!!! For something that would take 5 minutes. I called and the man I talked to did not sound concerned at all. Luckily, I can scrap everything and start over with a different company. Turbotax is sleazy.

I have been a TurboTax user for over 10 years. My past experience has always been great. This year however is a different story. I prepared my taxes and e-filed. A few weeks later I discovered that I had made an HSA contribution myself (not thru payroll). I went back to amend my return. TurboTax recommends that you compare your submitted return to TurboTax file (which I found interesting since I figured they would be the same). But, when I did the state amount balance due was different. I called TurboTax support and the first rep told me that a previous update had made a change and that they would prepare and issue an update to correct the error within the next 2 days.
It has now been over a week. I have called them multiple times getting different responses and still the problem is not fixed. I can't amend my return since the state has a different submitted amount and approved return on file than what TurboTax on my computer now shows. If this does not get corrected. I also would have incorrect information to roll over for next year's filing. Although I have been a long time user of TurboTax this has caused me to reconsider and will probably not use them in the future. Tax Filers need to beware and always compare what TurboTax submitted to Federal and State and what after the fact is showing up in their saved file after multiple TurboTax updates.

This company is deceitful and their customer service is awful. Their software didn't even work to upload my prior Tax information, and while they made it seem as if I was being given an "option" to have the TurboTax charge taken out of my refund, they charged me $35.00 without making it clear. Then when you call "customer service" (who are not even helpful except to help TurboTax con people), all they do is take a lot of time explaining why they charged $111.00 dollars for something that should have basically been free. They have no intention of helping anyone or addressing reasonable complaints.
I will NEVER use this company again. If they are so confident in their services, they should make the total charges very clear, but instead they make it extremely vague and therefore, when you think you have only selected one package for one price, and they don't show you what the total charges will be, it's easy to hit "accept". I have no doubt Turbo Tax will lose a lot of money and a lot of good customers due to their scam approach. DO NOT USE THEM.

I was unable to file them because TurboTax said the 2016 forms were not finalized and an update would be sent when they were available. I received the update and installed it and have not been able to open TurboTax since. I've called customer service and spent hours on the phone while the rep Googled my issue, giving me ridiculous things to try and do to fix it. I was supposed to get a call back from a second line rep and never heard back. I called to follow up and my case was closed. I had to start all over, spend another 3 hours on the phone and get a new case number. Same exact thing. I'm guessing they don't have a fix for the issue and rather than be honest and deal with it (and offer me a refund), they just keep closing out my case. I guess they figure I'll eventually give up.
They win! I'm done! My time is worth more than the $60 it cost me. I will NEVER use them again and I highly recommend others don't either! Overall I must say the user interface for TurboTax is very user friendly and their quick-answers available on topics were very helpful. My issue is that they had a lot of hidden fees. I initially selected to use their deluxe package for $34.99, accepting this as the cost of removing the headache of figuring out tax documents on my own while still itemizing for maximum deductions.
When I got to the final stages for signing off on filing, their total fees were actually $107. They charged the $35 for deluxe filing for federal (what I had knowingly selected), $37 for deluxe filing for state (never shown, in fact it seems implied that it is included in the $34.99 initially advertised), and an additional $35 processing fee. Rather than give up $107 of my returns I switched to H&R Block, which didn't have quite as nice of a user interface, but was actually free for the same refund amount. I think it is very poor for a company like this to not disclose their full pricing up front before customers invest several hours of their time into filling out sensitive information in their program. Long story short - very disappointed in the hidden fees sprung on me at the end of filling everything in.

This tax year (2016) was a complete disaster. Installing TurboTax from the CD was flawless. But the software hung up several times, took forever to download ‘updated’ tax forms, and finally just stopped working AFTER I completed my federal return. This is the first year I ran TurboTax on a Windows10, 64-bit machine. So maybe their software wasn't ready for prime time. Regardless, after numerous attempts to get the software working properly, I gave up and bought H & R Block’s Deluxe Tax Software. It ran great and my taxes are done.

I have two issues with TurboTax Deluxe 2016 user interface clarity. I would love to submit these issues to TurboTax but there is no mechanism to send them feedback. Note that generally I find TurboTax usable and it's way better than filing on paper. My major complaint is that there is no TurboTax-provided mechanism for customer feedback, so, I cannot report these issues to TurboTax. Both of these happen during what I think is called the interview. I am married filing jointly. My wife and I have three 1099-MISC documents. Two of them are identical except for the payee, because my wife and I both receive Alaska Permanent Fund Dividends. So the import from last year brought forward all three 1099s. Again two of them appear identical except for payee.
My first complaint is that I had a very hard time editing the top two (nearly identical) 1099s that were brought forward from last year. I could swear that when I edited the first I specified my wife as payee, and then, when I edited the second I specified myself as payee. But then when I went back to confirm I could swear that both the first and the second now said myself as payee.
So I think that the fact that these two 1099s were otherwise identical made them linked in some way so that even though the user interface showed that there were three distinct 1099s when I edited one of them it changed two of them. Anyway I eventually worked around the problem by adding to the "name" of the 1099 (which I think is the payer field) a parenthetical "(for wife)" and "(for self)" so that the two otherwise identical 1099s now didn't seem so identical. After this change I was able to edit the two 1099s and ensure that one had wife as payee while the other had self.
My second complaint is that I'm in a situation where I have three 1099s in my list and they were all imported from last year. But after I edit these I get the question: Did one of you get a 1099-MISC for a different reason? The answer is yes. Whichever 1099 I have just edited, there were indeed other 1099s for a different reason. But when I answer yes it creates a 4th 1099. So probably what the question meant to ask was "Did one of you get a 1099-MISC in addition to the three you have already reviewed?"

TurboTax asked me to upgrade as 1099-misc is not free with the basic product. I was not very sure if I want to use TurboTax at this time since H&R Block had it free. But as a thought I decided to talk to representative to see if they have something to offer. The representative took 50 minutes of my time in which he made me false promises like "Yes, sure! We will be more than happy to offer you very good discount here as you are our loyal customer and blah blah blah..." He kept me on hold while he talked to his senior staff.
After his discussion with senior (for over 18-20 min.) he was like "Hey, so let's go ahead... have you made the payment?" And I was like "No, I have not yet. What's the plan...?" He asked me to make the payment with my visa card and asked me to hold after that. After putting me on hold for another 15 minutes he said "Well, it seems like transaction is not completed yet and what we will do is, you call us after few days and we will definitely offer you good discount." He said, he has all the notes written down with the ticket and after few days I just to call and present case number and they will reimburse with VERY good discount. I again asked him as to why that is not possible and he assured me that the payment is not cleared yet and gave me assurance that they will definitely take care of it.
Now, after 10 days or so, I called them and explained what happened. The representative was like "No sir, you have used the product so unfortunately we do not have anything to offer..." I was like "What??" I explained him that it was 50 min. call and they should have told me upfront that discount was not possible and I would have walk out or made my decision to do it with TurboTax or something else. I told him to inspect the discussion between us using recorded call. But he had same answer "Sorry sir, we can not offer you anything as the product is used." I literally felt like cheated. I have used TurboTax since 2004, but this was my last year with it. They have partnered with Santa Barbara Bank & Trust (Tax Preparer's Group - TPG), to have electronic filing fees deducted from tax refund checks. However, TPG has been defrauding TurboTax customers like me, by hold onto the refund money, under the guise of protecting identity theft, in order to earn interest on the float. TurboTax won't tell you this until after your IRS refund check has been sent to TPG, and you call Intuit customer support to find out why your bank hasn't received the direct deposit. Then, they send you to TPG to try to get your money, by sending identity verification information, which they will claim to have never received. You will be lucky to ever get your money without taking them to court. TurboTax does not claim any responsibility for TPG's deceptive and fraudulent practices.
I manage suppliers for my company, and if my customer is having problems resulting from my supplier - I take full responsibility for the supplier's actions, and resolve the situation on my customer's behalf. That's how business ethics are supposed to work, but TurboTax believes otherwise ("Sorry - it's not our fault"). It makes me assume TurboTax and TPG are working in concert to steal money from their customers. Well, I can at least ensure TurboTax will never get another penny of my money. I've never been so disappointed with TurboTax. As a client of two years this would be the last time I do my taxes with them. I filed my taxes on Wednesday of last week. I found one of my tax returns from school that I didn't add. The first customer service agent for turbo tax was extremely helpful and help me correct it and print out the tax admin papers to send to the IRS. She told me to sign it and send it right away. Later in the afternoon I called again just to make sure I was going through the right steps. I've never came by such rude customer service. The first agent I spoke to, spoke to me like I was stupid. She told me that you don't send it right away because normally people don't file early admin only from 2014-2015. So I called again to verify this because the lady who helped me early that morning said to send it right away.
Second lady much worse. She barely spoke English, and kept saying, "WE don't HELP with review!" I said, "I'm not asking for a review I'm asking for a simple question regarding tax admin paperwork." She kept on saying even louder, "WE DON'T HELP WITH REVIEW. You need to pay extra online to do that." FIRST OF ALL. I paid the Deluxe package to get this kind of service? I asked the lady, "What's your name??" She's like, "What do you need help with?" I ask again, "Mam what's your name I'm sorry." She's like, "Ana!" I'm like, "Ana what's your last name?" She wouldn't give it to me. Paused a couple of times for a long time and said, "What do you need help with" over and over. "Ana I'm asking for your last name so I can be transferred to your upper management and tell them how unhelpful and rude you're being" and she hung up on me.
I believe this agent forgot I got emails sent to me with customer reviews. This call happened at 1:34 pm her name ended up being Cheryl **. I work in client care and make about 140 calls a day and never do I ever treat customers like this. I hope this lady learns how to treat clients. NEVER AGAIN COMING BACK.

Then, if I try to get into a specific area that I want to look at again, I have to start at the beginning of that area and go through the whole dang thing again? I can't just go to a certain entry? I've never tried the online version, but it's more expensive than the Costco disk, and WHY in this day and age don't they have one on a thumb drive? My computer does not have a disk drive and I had to go through all kinds of contortions to get the program to my computer from my husband's through his disk drive. I read later, in little tiny print on the "sheet" that comes with the disk that you can call a number and get a download or something for diskless computers. I spoke with the IRS who is unaware of this dollar figure that was given to me, and are also frustrated, because I have called them several times. TurboTax is strong arming money from its clients, with no recourse to detail in how such calculations were reached. I am very angry at this time, and they could not even console me, or even be seemingly understanding, or empathetic towards my issue. I was pushed aside, like almost communicating with a robot, with no feelings, and no care! How rude! How uncaring, and disgusting!

I have used TurboTax for the last 7 years, and have always paid to file my returns. The information was populated from year to year as advertised, and when I had to file an amended return one year I was able to do that with no problem. This year I had no income other than SS and pensions, I had paid no taxes and I didn't expect to owe any, so I chose their "file for free" option. First, even though I had an account with them and had used them many times before, all the information disappeared and I had to enter everything again.
Then the upselling began. I resisted all attempts to sell me services I did not need, and made it through to the filing page. Shortly after hitting the send button, I received an email stating both the state and Federal filings were rejected. Although they have offered to "fix" the filings for free, I suspect the upselling will be even more intense. I will not use TurboTax again, nor will I recommend it to anyone I know. I will be going back to the old fashioned paper version.

I've used TurboTax for about 4 or 5 years now and every year I have filed only my federal taxes with them since I am able to file my state taxes for free through PA direct file. This year however, turbotax would not let you delete the state tax information and I had to pay the extra fee for the state taxes to be filed even though I have already filed my state taxes. I called customer support and they had me on and off of hold for 30 minutes and told me that there was nothing they could do that they wouldn't refund the money for the state charge that they charged my credit card.
I have never had a problem with turbotax until this year; I should be given the option on whether or not I want to file my state return through them or not like I have been each year. So now turbotax has charged me $37 to file my state taxes that are already filed. We will be going with a different website from now on. Thank you turbotax for wasting a 1/2 hour of my life on hold just to find out that nothing would be done to correct the situation.

I have been a customer of TurboTax for over 8 years, unfortunately, that relationship will end with this tax year. I have two grievances; I noticed that they were not upfront about their fees this year nickel and diming me every way that they could. Initially I chose TurboTax for what I thought was a total of about 44 dollars but as I finished up and was ready to file, they attempted to add two additional fees of 39.99 and about 36.99, causing me to have to completely start over so as to choose a new package, but even then after choosing the basic "free" file, I was still charged 39.99 to file federal, 39.99 to file state, and then 36.99 to allow them to take the filing fees out of my tax return. All of the tax preparers have exuberant fees so I accepted the terms and completed my filing. The IRS accepted my taxes on the same day, which was surprising because it was a Saturday. The IRS processed my return smoothly and timely.
TurboTax sent me an email on February 23rd stating that the IRS has sent my refund and that I should receive the funds soon (deceptive). The IRS website stated that my refund was sent on February 23rd and should be deposited into my bank account on February 27th. It is March 3rd and I have yet to receive my tax refund, which brings me to my second grievance. Obviously, since I had not received my money, I begin making phone calls. My bank verified the routing and checking number I gave to TurboTax, everything was correct but confirmed that nothing was pending to my account. The IRS said that my refund was approved, sent, and should have been deposited into my bank account. So, it seemed that the hold up was with TurboTax. I called them and started to get the runaround, first they provided me with a number that was incorrect. They told me that they have no way of checking on my tax refund.
Apparently, TurboTax agents are unable to even see if they were paid their filing fees. They provided me with another number to Santa Barbara Bank Tax Group (whom I will write a review about as well) 877-908-7228 which starts off as an automated service asking for your SSN, zip code, and primary taxpayer filing status (similar to the IRS). After inputting my information, I receive a message that states that my tax refund is on hold due to unusual account activity. The only account that I have is through TurboTax, what unusual activity could there possibly be I think to myself. I was then connected to a live agent. I expressed my concerns of having not received my tax refund yet, she then states that I must send in a copy of my identification because there has been unusual activity on my account. What account?? She would not tell anything about this said account.
I tell her that the only affiliation that I have with her company is through TurboTax, our only relationship is for her company to split the filing fee from my tax refund and disburse my funds, nothing more. She would not tell me the specifics of said unusual activity with my said account in which I have never even been provided information or access to (why do I have an account in my name without access to it, how come no one has sent this account information to me?). I tell her that the IRS has already verified my identity and so has TurboTax, why now should I send this strange company (which I learn is a bank) a copy of my identification. She rudely replied that I did not have to, they can send my refund back to the IRS, which would take 90 days to do so, then the IRS would have to verify my information with me and would send me a paper check that would take 6-8 weeks to process.
It is very obvious that this bank is trying to collect interest off of my money. I tell them I do not wish for them to return my refund and that I was going to contact TurboTax to find out what unusual activity had occurred with my account so that they could resolve. This is when things gets deceptive again. I contact TurboTax and I am told by two representatives that the practice in which Santa Barbara Bank is using is not common and is out of their scope of practice. The representatives tell me that the IRS is the only entity that needs to verify my identification, once the IRS releases my funds, that is it. I am not required to do anything else to get MY money. So then TurboTax, why the hell is the third party that you have partnered with illegally holding my refund and why are you unable to resolve this issue?! Deceptions and lies.
I begin researching this Santa Barbara Bank Tax Group and apparently, they have been doing this with TurboTax for years. I don't know if there is a system in how they choose their victims, but my entire time in the military, while using TurboTax service and the convenience of having the filing fees deducted from my refund, they have never tried this on me, I'm assuming because the military has free and strong legal advisors available to the service members. I also discovered through other online complaints that even after you submit the information that this bogus bank requests they will continue to hold your refund only to have you resubmit the information again. Shame on TurboTax and shame on all of the employees of this company that has knowledge of this company's deceptive practices.
I am quite sure that TurboTax has already received their filing fees from MY money, there is no way they would allow this bank to do this and rely on the consumer to do what this bank asks before TurboTax has received their portion. This is grand theft. Nowhere does TurboTax state, if you use this service your refund could be delayed for identification purposes. Consumer beware! I am contacting every news channel so as to try and warn consumers of this delay with using TurboTax. It is not the IRS that are causing delays, it is TurboTax and their accomplice. Criminals. I want my tax refund and interest!!

I have now discovered that there is no software on my computer nor is there any downloaded TurboTax program on my computer. I did my daughter's return no problems. Attempted to "open a new return" and there was no way to do it so I called TurboTax. I was told that only one return federal and one state was available for what I purchased and that I would have to purchase the same product for each family member!!! As I start going through the steps on filing the 1099C, it prompted me to opt for the Deluxe package as the only option I have to be able to complete my 1099C exclusion. It gave me the option to get help from a live CPA or tax expert on tax related issues. But there not an actual number I can call to reach customer service, I had to write out the questions and schedule a callback.
When I finally got a call from a tax expert which she claims to be, she said I have to buy the desktop version of the deluxe package just to get the supplementary form I need for e-file. But the thing that struck me the most is when she repeatedly said: "TurboTax does not provide tax advice and assistance on form related questions. It's out of their scope. I must seek third party advice on how to complete the required form for 1099C insolvency exclusion. TurboTax is meant to be used only as a software for e-filing." She was super impatient with me and basically urged me to end the conversation with her. :(

Contact with support is very frustrating- the phone line is very poor and that is known by the call centre but nothing has improved in the 4 times I have had to call throughout a week. The screen share does not allow the agent to open any pages so you have to navigate for the agent. My issue was confirmed as their problem and one that might be resolved by an update soon, and one that apparently depends on CRA. I have spent 3 hours in total trying to get this problem resolved. In the first call I was using an iPad and it does not cope with the screen share. I had to also try two different browsers. A completely frustrating and time wasting experience. I've used TurboTax for 20 years. I've always been happy with them. I did get audited in 2011, but that had to do with my high medical expenses and NOT TurboTax. Last year I had the same problem but forgot about it. A $39.99 fee kept showing up at the end and I couldn't remove it. TurboTax charges $71 bucks just to file your taxes as is and then they throw in this erroneous fee IF you hit direct deposit. THEY DO NOT TELL YOU THIS PRIOR TO HITTING DIRECT DEPOSIT. It just 'shows up' at the end and they hope you don't notice. Then, it takes hours to go back and try to figure out how to remove the damn charge. It can only be removed by selecting a check or credit card option.
I went back today to write a review on their site. I can't. I can't email anyone my complaint either. I can only as a question. So here is the question I asked and the Answer posted: QUESTION: "Do you charge for direct deposit?" ANSWER: "Nope. We don't charge for which refund method you've chosen. Although there may be a fee for the optional Refund Processing Service, it has nothing to do with the fact that you've chosen to direct-deposit your refund." REALLY TURBO TAX?! Really?! I have no way to contact them to say cut it out or I won't return next year. It's been 20 years. And they pull this?! If you haven't used them before, don't start now. Not worth it. Now, some banks do charge a transaction or convenience fee for direct deposits.

So I am in agreement with all of the angry customers. I used Turbotax last year and it was a breeze. I mean well detailed and most importantly it was FREE! However, this year was completely different. I was literally robbed of a little over $71.00. I noticed that if I wanted my information to be transferred from last year that would force me to upgrade, so I opted to enter everything in from scratch. Okay moving on, I breeze through the program and when I get close to the end it suggests that I upgrade to Deluxe and I declined. By the time I got to the end it then FORCES me to choose the deluxe option, stating that I had a Schedule B interest form that caused the upgrade. So in disbelief, I then delete and clear all of the information and start all over again, thinking I did something wrong. That's when frustration kicked in!
The form was NEVER cleared and it started filling in information automatically from my previous entries. I didn't think anything of it. In the end, I got the same results, that because of an interest form I was required to upgrade. After the second time, I was sick and tired of looking at the site so I pushed forward. I was only presented with a charge of 34.99 to file my taxes, however, by the time I got to check out the freaking screen showed that I owed 71 and some change, 36.99 for State, 34.99 for Federal, and 34.99 to direct deposit. So trying to eliminate one of the 30 dollar charges I opted for mail delivery and that was rejected. I was told my only option because of whatever information I entered was to E-File, pissed at this point! Feeling defeated and given the fact that it was 1:30 am I went ahead and submitted.
I called into customer service for some answers and that experience infuriated me even more. One rep hung up on me. The next rep was very incompetent. She had the nerve to tell me to go on the TurboTax website and read about the different forms. I was trying to tell her what forms I used and she still insisted on reading to me all the forms that would cause me to HAVE to file 1040. She had the nerve to be rude and she was the one who didn't know her job. As I was ALREADY aware because of filing with Turbotax last year, ALL of the forms I had SHOULD have been filed for FREE!
So I called back one last time, to be told that there is a department specifically for questions such as mine (something the 2nd rep FAILED to share). A lady from this department told me that I was charged 71 dollars because I didn't enter in all the information on my own. To be clear, I selected that very option in the beginning (TO RE-ENTER ALL INFORMATION). I saw them remove all of their "perks" when I opted for manual entry.

Turbo Tax (TT) online stated $34.99 to file federal income tax (FIT). I thought that was reasonable and started and completed process for preparing, but not filing, FIT. Then a screen said file state for $36.99. I thought "Well for only $2 more I can do state, that will probably be ok." Nowhere did it say "For an ADDITIONAL $36.99, you can file state taxes." Went through the prep process and then found out it would be $74.14 to file both. Decided I only wanted to file FIT, not state. Got to a screen w/ 3 steps on it. Step 1 is credit card info. Step 2 is how you want to pay taxes. Step 3 says "Choose which returns to file." You can't get to Step 3 without going through Steps 1 & 2. I thought that at Step 3 I really would be allowed to choose which returns I wanted to file. But no! You can only choose when to file (now or later). I had tried to go back from several previous screens to delete state return but that was never an option.
I was locked into, and charged for, something I didn't want to do. I called TT customer assistance, thinking that a real person would be able to fix this for me. But again, NO. The first time I called, I was told there was a 6 minute wait and I would be called back. After approx. 45 min. w/o a return call, I called again and was told there was a 10 min. wait then I would get a return call. As of now, it has been approx. 19 hours and I have yet to receive a return call.
When I tried again this morning, I got through and talked to Michelle who told me there would be no refund, that I had paid for the preparation, not the filing, and I was not allowed to change my mind. If the charge is for prep, not filing, why does the program go through the entire prep process w/o charge and only ask for payment when it is time to file? Anywhere else I use my credit card but then change my mind about a purchase before using it, I am allowed to return it for a refund. I have heard from others that H&R Block online is better than TT. That's who I will use next year and advise everyone else to do also.

TurboTax never disclosed that my refund would be sent to a 3rd party for further processing. Once I got the information needed to check on the status of my refund I was informed to go to www.sbtpg.com.

But because I used the deduction option to pay for the refund, it passes through sbtpg which has my hard earned refund and is holding it. I am unable to reach anyone at sbtpg and Turbotax representatives who know about the scam says it is out of their hands. So I am stuck.
Sbtpg has no intention of helping out and are holding people's money to getting interest by pretending there has been unusual activity on your deposit bank so they pretend you need a photo ID uploaded to their website to release your money but then it won't upload at all. So I can't reach anyone at sbtpg, can't upload a photo to their website and Turbotax representatives are actually rude and loving telling you it is your fault for selecting the pay from my refund option. Be careful when buying Turbo Tax 2016 or any year in the future for that matter. Actually TurboTax does a decent job on tax prep, but they are deceptive in their package design. In particular the Deluxe package has two versions. Both packages look the same but one includes the State and the other version does not. Both packages look so much alike in color and description that their corporate officers must have been hoping you won't notice and buy the version without the State for a promotional rate like I did. Yes I fell for it. I called them but naturally they play dumb.
Both say Deluxe fairly large but the word state is nondescript and could be easily overlooked. Then of course, when you are deep into tax preparation you will need to buy the State for another fee effectively doubling the price. I'm sure they hired the very best packaging designers who would know better. But they decided on deception to help their bottom line. It makes you think Turbo Tax is less than honest about what they are selling. What else might they being trying to deceive about. Just, look closely at the package before you buy. Make sure you are getting the Deluxe version with the State, if that's what you want so you will not be susceptible to paying double.

The payment summary page just before paying is tricky. The payment confirmation page would make you believe you will be paying 34.99 but I was charged 71.98. H&R Block actually warned about this cheating or tricky fine printed message of TurboTax. Beware, just before charging your card, they do not clearly show the total amount that would be charged.

I have been using TurboTax when people didn't even knew it existed. It continuous check over your statement and requires tax forms you don't even have. Oh and the live chat doesn't exist. The best are the hidden charges, especially if you want direct deposit. An additional $34.00 plus. Free filing for Federal around $39.00, same for State filing. Then an additional $34 for processing your deposit. Will never use TurboTax again, ever!!!

Using iPhone to log in to TurboTax as I have been inputting tax info for last few days and today getting login error. Click to get 6 digit code to reset password, text message receives code. When clicking back into the TurboTax app the landing page is now the login page. You can click forgot password & see for a second the enter security code page but immediately goes to the send email or text again. There is no way to enter the 6 digit code, that only appears when you click for another code. If I had an alternate iPad I could get the code from there but not the case. So I'm shut out until I can get on a laptop and the phone.

I will no longer be using or trusting this software. I have been a happy customer since 2009, but I have found flaws in the software and realized that they were not asking the right questions to make sure my form was filled out. I have spent hours going through the IRS.gov site and found that what TurboTax was telling me was not correct. I have manually removed my Lifetime Learning Credit but it still shows up on the return they want to send to the IRS. The customer service was friendly, but their supervisor would not allow her to transfer me to tech support. I am not done with this battle but I am extremely unhappy with their ability to be of assistance. And I just don't trust their easy to use format to ask the right questions.
