Someone hacked into my account and stole my information from my 2017 tax return. I never received an email stating that my account had been used. In addition, the person/people who filed in my name completed the tax return on 2/10, yet I received an email from TurboTax on 2/14 warning me to use the same account I used the previous year to file taxes. TurboTax does not seem to be worried about their consumer's personal information. I am disappointed that TurboTax emailed me four days after the fraudulent return had been accepted by the IRS. If I had received the email the day of, I could have stopped this in time.

I am a first time user and imported my investment data from my provider. I was prepared to fill out Form 1116 to enter Foreign dividends and withholding taxes by country. I listed 4 countries, but the system entered a loop and would only allow 3. On Feb 20 I called the help line and posted my issue and received no response. Later I called the help line and waited 90 minutes for a tech person who tried to log onto my screen but failed. He was unable to help and "escalated" it. 20 minutes later the "escalated" responder was able to view my screen and tried to resolve the issue. After a long time and noting the loop we were in simply dropped my call without warning me. A recording at approximately 5:30pm informed me TurboTax would call back. By 10pm no call. This morning I saw a message that TurboTax had called at 10:49pm after I had gone to sleep and basically said to try again. This is not the TurboTax experience I had bargained for.

While filing my federal and state income taxes this year, I kept looking out for the “pay with your federal return” option to not pay their hidden $30 fee. The option to pay now never appeared on any page, so I kept going to the next step waiting and looking for it. The submission then went through, so I tried to contact them. First it told me to enter my problem, then call and reference a code so the employee would have easy access to my information and issue. Of course, that just ended up being a time wasting, unhelpful automated message. I tried their website again and was eventually able to have someone call me. She was rude, unhelpful, unknowledgeable; and told me it’s too late, they have my money, and they would not do anything for me. She did not explain any of the reasons or policies why. When I asked why it was too late since I had just submitted and that I was specifically looking for that hidden fee on every page, she got attitude. I will never be using TurboTax again, they cheat you out of money and rub it in your face.

I completed the tax return with relative ease and no problems until the end when I wanted to e-file which is supposed to be free for federal return. It asked me if I wanted to add Audit Defense for $44.99. I declined it. But then it gave me the option of deducting $44.99 from either my credit card or my refund. In other words, it was going to charge me even though I didn't click on anything that said I wanted it. I could find no way to opt out. The information in the "Help Center" didn't apply to my program. I could not find a phone # to call anyone. So I decided to mail the returns, but still, they should have fixed this error and not required me to purchase a $44.90 product I didn't need and didn't want, in order to get "free" e-filing. I purchased the online version program on the Turbotax website. Maybe the CD would not have had this problem. But too late now.

My daughter filed her taxes with them and immediately got a "rejected" from the IRS. When logging back in expecting to be walked through it, they suggested she print and mail her returns after nothing on the website actually showed her how to fix it. The nerve of them trying to charge her $80 just to print the documents!!! NOTHING BUT A SCAM AND A FRAUD!!! I will be looking into this with legal help!

I have used TurboTax several times and this year, it was SO disappointing to see that there was some kind of scam going on. Stop using the word "FREE"!! By no means was anything about it free. You start off thinking you are filing the normal "simple" form and by the end, your taxes are held hostage for steep amounts of money. In the end, I wound up paying $80.00. Would have been an additional $44.00 if I needed my money immediately. Good program, why ruin it by being greedy!!

I have used TurboTax for many years and I am mostly very satisfied with the product. This tax year 2018 TT did not prompt me to enter several forms or ask me about certain situations which apply to me and which I have filed in previous years' returns. TT should not rely on my memory to enter these data in my return. It concerns me that perhaps there are other situations that TT and I have missed. I am also very frustrated that I can't find anywhere on the TT website to make this comment or leave this review directly to the company.

I always use TurboTax, until now. I was filing my taxes with them and paid the efile fee of 79.98. Yet it kept saying error, so after a lot of frustration I called and sat on the phone for 2.5 hours trying to troubleshoot why it wouldn't let me file. Long story short, no resolve, filed a claim thru my bank and still nothing. Another 45 min call to TurboTax to tell me the online isn't refundable. Seriously I just paid for a service I didn't receive.... So upsetting. Will never use them again. I got the same refund through H&R Block, and it was cheaper to file and I got my refund in a week. TurboTax you thief, stop stealing from people who trusted you! Ugh.

I have used the free edition TurboTax for the past 8 years. This year after nearly completing my return they gave me no option but to upgrade to deluxe for 39.99. The only difference in my taxes was that this year I had to provide outside insurance for my child because my employer no longer offered insurance for dependent children. When I viewed my receipt in my email I see TurboTax charged my card 79.98 instead of the 39.99 I thought I was being charged. It seems if you are required to upgrade to deluxe you must then pay an additional 39.99 for your state tax prep.

Thank goodness I was weary and decided not to opt to have the fee taken out of my refund because after reading other reviews I see TurboTax charges an additional 39.99 for that also! I didn't see that anywhere on the page that option was given. If it was there at all it must have been hidden well. I will definitely not be using TurboTax in the future and will recommend that no-one I know use it either. I am extremely dissatisfied!!!!

As a 24 year old, I've never filed outside of TurboTax, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing (upfront disclaimer). But I've been using TT for about 5 years now and I've never had an issue - you get what you pay for IMO. It's easy, I can sip a glass of wine, punch in a few numbers, click, click and I'm done. My refunds are always pretty legit and I opt for the premium package that comes with an audit representative so if ** goes down months from now I know an actual non-bot human being has me covered. A lot of people complain about the service, but I think if you only have a few means of income, full time worker, standard 401k and health insurance, TT is best. Once your taxes start getting complicated, ie investments, Medicare, pensions, retirement -- I'd say go to H&R Block. But for the Young Professional, you can't beat it. BTW, this is for the online portal, not the software download (because WHY).

Extremely Frustrating. TurboTax refuses to allow connection with technical support staff even though they have a serious software problem restricting electronic filing. IRS rejection is met with inaccurate resolution, conflicting IRS/TT requirements, and inability to identify a correction scenario applicable to the software in use by the customer. I used TurboTax for three years until I noticed that they were making some serious mistakes and were unable to resolve them. Specifically, I receive a federal pension that is not taxable in Massachusetts yet they were automatically adding it to my state tax income. I called them on it and they were unable to rectify the problem. As I pursued efforts to get refunded my fees, they merely stopped responding to me. I embedded two years of returns, manually correcting their efforts and received over $2000 in refunds. I was most upset by their cavalier and dismissive attitude on the phone, and refusal to respond to me. I never received my "guaranteed" refund for dissatisfaction. So beware. There were numerous other errors but none so significant as that which I just mentioned.

I've used TurboTax for about the past 8-9 years. It was always pretty easy to use. This year seemed to have a bit of kinks and the "free" filing ended up costing almost $120. This fee was added at the VERY end, after hours of input and opting out of the Deluxe version multiple times. On top of that, $40 of it was to have the fees paid with my tax returns. I could've sworn they got into legal trouble with this last year. I've never used another company, but I definitely will next tax season.

I wasted all day today with a very incompetent, untrained, and uncaring team from TurboTax. I spoke to 3 reps. The first one couldn’t understand basic tax concepts and after speaking with her for an eternity, decided I should be forwarded to a tax advisor. I explained that I did NOT have a tax problem, I have a software problem. She transferred me anyway and recording said it would be in excess of an hour to talk to someone. I hung up. Second rep thought it was hilarious that the software said I owed the IRS 5.5 million dollars. After talking to him again for an eternity, I up on him.

Third rep - I had to explain myself so many times I wanted to strangle her. She asked me to spell “cost basis” - seriously? She took over my screen and repeated at least 20 times that she couldn’t see what I see - so what exactly is the point? When I got so angry I insisted on speaking with a manager, she got “level 2” support. Biggest joke ever. Level 2 is not allowed to talk to humans apparently and we had to talk thru level 1 which was amazingly useless and ridiculously time consuming. After spending ALL day on this, I could spend no more time.

Rep 3 promised to escalate the issue. So what did she do? She closed the ticket. Later that night when the hold queues weren't over an hour, I called to speak to a manager. The rep that answered had me on hold for quite a while, then disconnected the call. They again closed the ticket. DO NOT BUY TURBOTAX OR DEAL WITH INTUIT.

Then, I had to pay a fee before it would let me print my return. When I called customer service, the representative was unprofessional and disinterested in helping me. In a rush to get me off of the phone, she told me to hit the shift enter key. A screen sharing app popped up. As I hear her walking around in the room that echoed her footsteps, she claimed that she couldn't see the screen. Therefore, I told her never mind. I called a second time in hopes of getting another more competent representative. Unfortunately, I was greeted by the answering service which stated that there was a 2 hour hold. Alone I had one error I could not fix, & the information was not being added correctly, meanwhile, with my husband's edit it created a few more errors that we could not figure out how to edit. Unfortunately, these edits did not accumulate until after my spouse paid $74.98 in fees to find out it was best for us to go with another service agent. In order to access these files, I had to PAY. After this, they start asking me to review forms I have never seen and which are broken, meaning I could not properly fill out the form (literally the text fields and selections were gray and could not be clicked on). Then at the very end right before transmitting the files, my return drops from $2,800 to $2,100. This is on top of them charging me TWICE for my federal return when I used the Back button. Guess what happened when I tried calling them to resolve the double charge? They asked me to PAY to speak to a representative. I am not using TurboTax ever again and STRONGLY recommend you avoid avoid AVOID.

Last year I used TurboTax without incident. This year I had one problem after another. First, I was not able to enter "other income" without boxing myself into a self-employment package. Two, when I first completed my form, I was notified that it would take me an additional 5 days before the taxes could be released. I went back to it the following weekend. Three major problems arose. One, I was charged a state filing fee even though I have to file a paper copy of my state taxes because TurboTax can't find my state attachments for some reason.

Second, the amount of money that I was being charged through the online portal was radically different ($30) than the prices on the TurboTax web page. And third, even though my refund amount exceeded my fee amount, I could not pay for the tax services through my federal refund, as their software indicated I could. When I called customer service, I was on the phone for an hour and the call dropped then when I called back it took another 40 minutes to resolve the issue. I will not use TurboTax again.

I use TurboTax for last 15 years. Mostly happy! This year, I am quite surprised that 2018 version is not meeting my expectations! For example, while you are preparing a return, if you added an item (deduction/income/IRA etc.), the TT will recompute the new tax value (owed or to be refunded). And if you removed the SAME item, you would expect the tax value will go back to the original value before adding the item. This does not happen in some cases. After entering my all deductions, TT decided that the standard deduction is best for me and gave me a tax value I would owe. Then out of curiosity, I tried the itemized deductions and TT gave a higher number. Fair enough. But, when so, I went back to standard deduction, the new tax value was not same as the original value. I may have to start from scratch again. :( I think their deduction calculating part is screwed up. I hope new releases will fix it. Bottom line: The product is not matured yet.

Basic short form I am thinking and see charges for $39, $39 and then if I want to fill state it's another $39. I never did see a total but went ahead and clicked to do the state and have the refund come out of my refund. Got both back in less than 2 weeks in my checking and with a small discount from my CU it cost me $114.97 to use TurboTax and me do all the work. So it cost me about $38 more this year with the same paperwork?

I have always used TurboTax because they were free and it did always get me my maximum refund. But this year they forced me into buying more than I wanted. In order to complete my return this year, it required forms that they never previously charged for. They also state "Free State filing" but when I went to file for state, they again charged me for it claiming that in order to file with federal taxes, they had to charge. Yet when I tried to find a separate place to file state, it was nowhere to be found. And in previous years they never charged me to pay for it from my refund, but this year, they did. I would also like to add that the charge for that was buried in the fine print with almost no way to easily read it. I had to go back and search the entire page just to see it. I will never, EVER use TurboTax again.

I bought TurboTax (TT) 2018 Deluxe and installed on 2/4 on computer and input data into my return. On Sunday, 2/10 I went back to work on it and the program kept crashing. Won't go past the page where it asks for info to "keep me up to date on tax info". I deleted the TT 2018, restarted computer and reinstalled TT and still not working. Called tech support who spent 2 hours and 13 minutes on the phone and was useless. Had me do all the uninstall/reinstall steps I had already done myself. He also provided me an online version of TT claiming the CD might be corrupt. Then he suggested I disable antivirus. When I installed TT on 2/4 I did not disable antivirus and now I need to?! Anyway, did that and still no luck. His solution was I use their online version - don't think I want to put my personal data on their server when they can't even figure out how to fix a software bug!

Finally I suggested I call back to speak with level 3 support on Monday. Today (Monday 2/11) I called and spoke with Level 3 (so she said) for 75 minutes. Had me go through the same process as Sunday and still same crash before the program even opens. After each re-install when I clicked on the launch TurboTax it would just close/crash. She also had me completely uninstall my antivirus software and Chrome (I objected to removing my antivirus but wanted to access my return I had worked on for so long on 2/4). Now why would a program need you to remove your antivirus to install and work properly? She kept insisting it was my antivirus and when that didn't solve it she said it was my Chrome and when that didn't solve it she said it was my computer! REALLY!!!

I have been using TT for 20+ years and am furious with their lack of support and trying to push me to go online to do my taxes. They need to spend their expertise on trying to figure out why their software crashes and develop a program that doesn't require the user to have its computer exposed by removing antivirus! This will probably be another case of Intuit just moving on and continuing to screw people by selling subpar software.

We can deduct it from your refund."

"IT" is not the price of the software they are talking about... but an additional fee on top of the software. As far as downloads go, if you have issues they say to call, which I have, I cleared cookies from my browser and perfect! If you don't have access to last year's returns you have used the FREE Version which does not include access to prior years. And TurboTax doesn't add numbers in categories that are not based on the users entries. Just click review and look at your return. It is the responsibility of the user to check your return.

If you need help you can purchase, at a very reasonable price I might add, the Tax Expert preparation and review feature which comes with a guarantee. The purchase price of the use of the software is a product, not a privilege, you pay for their systems to intuitively help you file your taxes. The filing fee is expected because it's a Service offered. And finally, if you need help with outside the box issues live support is a phone call away. All comes with TurboTax money back guarantee. So if you don't want to pay filing fees print and mail, don't cost a dime. Efile is faster and is why you purchase. Maybe read first what you purchase and don't assume!!

When I got to the IRA deduction I discovered he would have to pay $39.99 to file instead of $0 if he wanted the deduction. After several years of using TaxAct I really wanted to return to Turbotax for the ease of clicking a number & seeing the calc's & supporting forms, good info & familiarity. I spent at least 5 hours following their website instructions to resolve these errors, all unsuccessful. Spent another 4 hours with a helpful tech rep who took me through the same things & more, all unsuccessful.

My PC has more than the minimum system requirements, has had no updates while using Turbotax, but the rep insisted that I should update my PC. Who would update a PC in the middle of tax filing?! This is absurd because after removing & reinstalling, as per Intuit instructions, the new install now immediately gives me the same error messages, yet my first install at least installed properly & worked for 4 weeks. Turbotax changed something in their update pointers & can't seem to figure it out. So I am returning the CD's to Intuit for a refund & they are comping me the online version, which I hate! I did not realize there was a fee for this (my fault) -- BUT had TurboTax listed the fees I was going to have to pay BEFORE e-filing, I would have and would have changed how I paid the fees. Instead TurboTax e-files and then give you a confirmation with the fees you were charged. Been using TurboTax for 5 years now and have never had to pay. This year I was told I would need to upgrade to the deluxe edition because I had a 401k, which I have had for 15 years now. Not sure why this year I had to pay but not only the upgrade to the deluxe edition for $39.95 but also pay to file state and that was an additional $40.00. In total when I went to file and pay I was being charged $118.95. I went to H&R Block's website and filed the same W2 and was only charged $14.95 and state filing was free. I will never use TurboTax again which is definitely not free, free, free!!!

I e-filed my return on 01/04/2019 then received the notice from TurboTax that they had transmitted it and would send me notice when the IRS had accepted it. 10 days later I received a text from TurboTax stating that the IRS had accepted my return and would see it in my account no later than 02/04/2019. I was curious how the process would work since the government shutdown was in effect and the IRS workers were furloughed. When the shutdown ended on 01/25/2019 I assumed everything was on schedule so on the 01/30/2019 I checked my TurboTax account. I was disappointed to find out that Turbotax had changed the transmittal date of my return to 01/28/2019 and restarted the whole visual timeline process.

It was obvious that they lied in order to give the appearance that they were getting people their refunds despite the shutdown. If they can lie just to bring in customers then they can lie on your tax process in which you're ending up paying them for setting you up for a headache with the government. They get the money and you get the problems.

Nowhere in the program did it prompt or let me know that these forms were required to be filed. It didn't mention anything about a W3. I've used TurboTax with great success for at least six years. However, this year I opted otherwise. Why? I am a lower income taxpayer with wages, Social Security benefits, and some IRA/401(K) distributions as well. I take NO deductions, save for a straightforward one for interest paid on a student loan. Because of this deduction, TurboTax now "bumps" my filing into the "Deluxe," or $39.99 category, rather than the "Free" Category.

Frankly, this deduction makes no difference in the amount of my tax refund, but I am concerned that not listing it might delay my refund from the IRS if it chooses to revise my form based on a 1098-E form from my lender. What's even worse is if I use the "Deluxe" edition of TurboTax to avoid the situation, I also need to pay an additional $39.99 to file my state return, so my total cost for filing taxes will be almost $80. A few years back, filing a very similar return with TurboTax cost me nothing. In sum, the convenience of TurboTax having my past tax returns on file to help with my 2018 return was now outweighed by its galloping increases in cost. So I changed horses in midstream and went with another tax preparation company that charged nothing for my student loan deduction and nothing for filing my state return.

Was very surprised to find out that despite charging 39.99 for federal and then again for state this program didn’t have the capability of computing the new mortgage interest limitations. You have to do the math yourself and go back to irs.gov to complete worksheets esp if you have more than one mortgage. They also ask more questions (like principal as of 12/18) when they don’t utilize that information to do the calculations. I spent a significant amount of time on this and was curious what other sites do. Went to H&R Block who figured this calculation in seconds and didn’t require principal balance at the end of that tax year. What a waste of time.

First, I had to confirm my email repeatedly while filling out the form. Secondly, I was never asked at any point to enter my adjusted gross income (AGI) as now required by law.

After finishing and sending the form in, I received an email from TurboTax telling me that I had to go back and enter the AGI, but there was NO way to do this! The form had already been sent. I called the number given in that email and - because I don't pay for features that I don't need - was unable to speak with a live person. My return will be rejected by the IRS, and I'll have to follow up and submit it again. Odd thing is, I missed a couple of steps this year and TurboTax immediately pointed that out and I fixed them. It never mentioned the AGI though, or told me to enter it before I submitted the form, and in looking at my printout OF the form? There's NO place on it to enter the AGI! This year, as opposed to many other years, TurboTax decided to not include student loan interest deductions in their standard free filing option. They require TurboTax Deluxe (39.99) for the 1098-E filing with your federal return that used to be free. I was initially alright with paying a one time 39.99... As my student loan interest capped out so I was saving 250$ at least, which if I didn’t file my 1098-E's I would not have a chance at acquisition of this portion of my return. That leaves me with $210 in the green. Here’s where it gets much much darker. They ALSO charged for a state filing upgrade (39.99), which was free last year. There was not a clear option to ONLY file federal and state. It peculiarly states that you SHOULD file them together, combined, less you have to start all over again from scratch for your state.

They did not disclose that it would be an addition 39.99 NOR did they have any asterisk, fine print, or clickable information regarding this. So at the end, it was around 80.00. Again, because I am a lazy consumer, I was actually okay with this. THEN, much to my horror they tack of an ADDITIONAL 39.99 for it to be taken from my return!!! The very next screen is a misleading graph for "MAX Identity fraud protection" for an addition 49.99 per year. The bottom right hand corner of the screen is where you have been clicking continue, continue, continue - throughout the entire experience of filing taxes. The option for the MAX protection was in the same space as the continue button had been. It was very very deceptive.

I chose no. I finally said, “No way Jose. I'm not paying 120.00, to some (now) shady company for my return.” What completely sealed the deal was the authorization for TWO DIFFERENT BANKS to receive my information...FOR WHAT??? It makes no sense. Taking out my "$120.00" owed from my return money DOES NOT REQUIRE A THIRD PARTY BANK? Anyways at the end. I wanted to simply send a federal return, for free. I couldn’t back out of the deluxe without starting all over. I also couldn’t back out of ANY of the decisions (Deluxe, state, and paying from return) even when I clicked on the side bar options that denote 'federal', 'state', 'file', 'review' and such. SO AT THE END, I SAID ** TURBOTAX.

So I began using TaxSlayer. TaxSlayer asked for a .pdf of my previous tax file. I went back to TurboTax...and they MAKE YOU PAY FOR A PDF of your past tax files. THIS IS ALL NEW. Last year (maybe this part only is wrong, but this is what I remember) you always had pdfs of your previous years available for download. THANK GOD there is an option to ONLY get your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) for the previous year on a dropdown menu. Turbo taxes deception is absolutely insane and I will never ever ever ever decide to use Intuit, Mint, QuickBooks, OR TurboTax again. I am appalled. I begrudgingly was forced to use a different software. I used TaxSlayer instead and it honestly was fantastic. It was simple and easy and all payments were upfront.

I used TurboTax several years, up until last when CreditKarma.com released a truly free tax preparation tool. Inevitably, I'd be lured in by the TurboTax 'free filing' advertisement, and then end up paying for a deluxe package because of minor HSA expenses (I couldn't file properly otherwise, even though I always ended up taking the standard deduction) and state filings. They are looking for any opportunity (legit or not) to milk you out of a more money. What's more, they prey on the poor, charging more money from customers who don't have the hefty sum on hand to pay for all the ridiculous charges they've been hit with and thus have to opt to have the charges taken from their tax return, which costs a lot more.

Finally, Intuit has spent huge sums of their ill gotten gains lobbying federal and state governments to kill any sensible tax simplification legislation. For 90% of American, tax filing should be as simple as signing off on the government's auto-filing based on your W-2 (like Australia), but companies like Intuit have been blocking this every step of the way. Overall, terrible product from an unethical, slimy company. Thank god for the free market, and ethical companies like Credit Karma saving the day.

As of Jan 26, 2019 I have not found TurboTax listed on the CRA website that lists the filing programmes they have certified for the year 2018 tax filing. Upon trying to save a file as PDF or print any forms from the TurboTax programme I receive a message implying it is CRA's issue. The message you get in TurboTax is, "At the time of manufacturing this product, the government had not finalized all of its forms. You will require a final version of your forms prior to submitting returns. You can obtain the final versions as they become available by selecting Check for Updates from the Help menu any time after the beginning of Jan 2019." There have been no updates for this issue the entire month of January to date. It is impossible trying to speak with an actual flesh and blood person about this at Intuit.

You have to pay $29.99 just to talk to an actual human, no, I am not kidding. I have never had trouble filing taxes before in my life and they got me last year paying for their forms. Well alright I’ve been at this for 2 hours so take the deluxe payment. Said I was approved for the not 39.99 but for 29.99. Thanks. Said no need to run for my wallet as they would simply deduct it from fed return... Let me shorten this: $39.99 for deluxe not quoted $29.99. $69.99 for allowing them to take $39.99 from fed AND another fee for filing state total $109 and change!!! However, I don’t need to complete this form in reality and TurboTax will not let me manually delete it. You cannot email them for help, you can call but it is completely automated. When you finally get the computer to give up and speak to a person, the wait is at least 45 minutes. They expect you to get any needed support from their forums. Go elsewhere. TurboTax is misleading consumers by implying prior to submitting returns that refunds are on schedule. The website stated the standard 21 day return. I have used TurboTax for several years. The standard return for e-filing is typically about 21 days. When I was submitting my return on their website the site provided the same standard return window. 2 days after submitting my return I received a notice that the IRS has accepted my return. It has been 12 days since I filed so I went online to check the status. Now there is a little question mark hyperlink under the status bar.

When selecting the hyperlink it informs you that the federal government will not be accepting returns until the 29th of January. I called and spoke to a representative for almost an hour. I initially wanted to know why the site did not indicate, prior to ordering, there was a delay in processing. Additionally I wanted to know why 2 days after submitting I was told my return was accepted, when in reality NO returns will be accepted until the 29th. I was told the language was a bit confusing, but that it meant that TurboTax accepted my return.

I said that "THE IRS HAS ACCEPTED YOUR FEDERAL REFUND" is not confusing it is misleading. I asked to cancel my order since it has not been, and won't be accepted by the IRS for almost another week. I was initially told that my refund should still come within the 21 days that was stated. A statement that was later recanted. I believe Intuit is using a bait and switch technique because they have the information is available about the delay ONLY after you pay and is not made readily visible during the processing period. I want to cancel my order and no longer want to do business with this company.

I have used TurboTax for the last three years (including 2018 tax year, filed just today). I was in the final stage of the filing and there is an identification verification process where they needed information from last year's return. When I couldn't find it through their online process I attempted to chat with customer service. The Chat function did not work, I input the information and clicked on the button but nothing happened and the button was still highlighted in blue. No problem (I thought) I will call them. It took a few minutes to track down the customer service number since it is not included on their online version (so much for Deluxe). When I did finally reach a "customer service" representative she was argumentative, kept talking over top of me and thought she knew better than I as to why I was calling. I was told by this representative that I must have used the desktop version of TurboTax last year since it was not showing up online.

She explained I needed to use that version and that is the only way I would be able to have this year and previous years all in the same place. Ultimately, since I explained I didn't have the desktop version she indicated that I needed to use the online version and TurboTax would be able to find the older version once I filed 2018. Of course I proceeded on that basis. Filed my 2018 return and then received an email from TurboTax that indicated I used a different account than I did last year (same email address, different user name). I immediately called in to ask how to combine the two accounts and was told the only way to do that was to deactivate the old account (lose all information) and pay an additional fee of $20 (after paying $90 this year and similar amount last year).

Needless to say, I need to have the information maintained since I paid an additional fee to have the add-on protection in the event of an audit. If there is a way to combine the accounts but it involves potentially losing data and incurring additional cost, it seems to be a revenue scheme and a serious lack of data management protocol on their behalf. I am very concerned with how this company is actually managing data... If someone were to create a new user ID, could they file on my behalf if they have my email? Do not trust this company with your data, they do not have an understanding of the potential security risk this lack of management and coordination presents. Not to mention the utter lack of respect that was demonstrated by multiple "customer service" representatives I encountered.

I have used TurboTax for the last 7 years of my life, and have always enjoyed the simplicity of filing for free since I never had anything over-the-top in savings/investments/etc. So fast forward to this year, and I just started a 401k last November, and have only paid in for like four paychecks last year. This was asked on one of the parts of the filing, and I just informed them that 'yes, I have paid in.' Nothing else came from it, but I did get a pop-up that said in order to get the "saver's credit" for paying into a retirement account, I had to upgrade to Deluxe, which was advertised as $39.99. Okay - sure, no biggie. There was no additional information asked, since the retirement deductions are included on my W2's, and I was given a $36 Saver's Credit.

Now we get to the end of filing, I'm not allowed to file without the Deluxe Edition, and it cost $39.99 for Federal, $39.99 for State, and another $39.99 to have them take the charge out of my return. So that was $117 for a $36 credit. Super disappointed, and unable to remove the option. They did literally nothing extra, and I would have rather not had the credit and saved myself $117... No customer service email, no answers in the TurboTax community and I'm not able to leave a review on their site anymore. Will not use them next year.

It stated that I needed to "review" my 1099-INT (as I had it the previous year). It would not let me continue until I re-entered it. It doubled the amount of interest that I received, now, I will need to file an amendment as IRS will flag my return as the 1099-INT does not match the amount already submitted by my bank. What was more disturbing, is that TurboTax asked for my username and password to my bank account so they can "retrieve" my info for me (rather than entering it my self). It did not give a choice to decline, so I just clicked as if I did enter the info, and I was able to enter the info myself. How many people will fall for that? Then, I get all the way to the end, it says I cannot use the free version and need to buy the "deluxe version" for $39.00 as I had one 1099-R form. I will not be using TurboTax next year. I see that some people are having to pay for the "plus version" to get access to previous years' tax returns done by TurboTax.

The consultant went to get help and said enter the numbers as whole numbers, that worked. Not entered as on the 1099 or as all other numbers are entered, they acknowledged a bug in the software. Nobody at TurboTax ever tested the software. Now thinking I am good to go to the next income item a 1099-MIS; wrong.

After another 30 minutes on hold and transferred to another person, 20 minutes on hold, I explained the problem. My wife filed her 2016 tax return with TurboTax. Then, in 2017 we decided to go with an accountant. Today, we are trying to buy a home. TurboTax is saying that they do NOT have her 2016 return because we did NOT use them in 2017... and they will not issue it to us. Now it looks like we will not be able to get the house we love. Jose, who is a supervisor with TurboTax, told me blatantly that if we did return in 2017 then he would have access to the 2016 return. Downloaded PDF to print and file by mail -- document contains NO ACTUAL 1040 form -- only filing instructions and worksheets. No option that I select will give me a preview or download of a file that actually contains my 1040. Since I am a paying customer ($30 for state, $30 for ongoing access to my documents), I naturally looked for an 800 number to call for technical support. THERE ISN'T ONE! I need the money now but I’m being forced to wait in order to access it. This also happened with another check I had for $64. The time lengths for holds on checks needs to be less. I shouldn’t feel like I have to go elsewhere to cash my check. Mobile deposit should be more convenient than this.

My company has been using Intuit - TurboTax for business for about ten years. Over time the product has become much much worse, is unstable with an ever increasing number of error messages, codes and basic broken functionality. Intuit provides "little to no" customer support service, unless you purchase it on a case by case basis - which is not worth the cost as the offshore call center they utilize has support personnel who have no idea how the product they support actually works.

The tax return software would not allow us to save our return as a PDF (error message with an error code so they could improve the problem in the future??), would not allow us to e-file a return (again more error messages with an ever changing menu of error codes, per occurrence), would not allow us to print a final paper copy (more error messages), save the complete working file with support schedules, would not save updated copies with the message it cannot find the file to save - even though it opened the file it could not recognize and save - and failed to perform its basic function of assisting the preparation and filing of tax returns. It captured data, locked it into their ** product, and made it almost impossible to retrieve.

To remedy the problems we encountered we had to view the return & schedules. We wasted days of time preparing, on a computer screen (which is the only functionality stable enough not to crash or throw error codes and close the program down every 3 minutes) and manually transcribe/hardcode the input data onto paper returns. Intuit is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with, as thousands of others here on the site can attest.

It carries over relevant personal info and tax data from previous years and allows me to choose to go to a specific item or to allow inquiry about all items, depending on what I need. I use the bundled It’s Deductible to get defensible prices for the many household items we donate. Until two years ago I always printed and mailed in our CA return, but more recently have filed that electronically, too. It will be interesting to see how TT handles the CA adjustments this year, as the new Federal tax law makes it advantageous for us to use the standard deduction for the IRS but itemize for CA.

I barely have the money to do this now because I am 100% disabled as of January 2017. I will not recommend your service to anyone because technically you say you aren't responsible even though I feel you are because when you appropriately put in information, then it doesn't get added it is your responsibility because you own the software. They will not take responsibility at all. The money back guarantee is hogwash. I would not recommend TurboTax for anyone personal or business. They claimed to have done all these checks and balances, but fail to ask pertinent questions that affect how an individual is supposed to correctly file their taxes. I trusted this company only to learn now that I have potentially overpaid my taxes, had my company dissolved because the IRS thinks that I have not been filing taxes for my company and I may be hit with some hefty fees. However, in order to receive a refund I would need to pay the entire $239. I went ahead and paid the $239 with my debit card, called back to request a partial refund and was told it would take 5-7 days.

After the week had passed, I still didn’t see a refund on my bank card. I called 6 times before finally speaking to someone that said it would take 6-8 weeks to receive a paper check refund! This is absurd - it took TurboTax 15 seconds to take $239 not rightfully due and now I have to wait until the next quarter to receive a refund for services not rendered. I purchased the downloadable cd for business for 2017. I received CPA advice and his remote help to change the 1040 to reflect the resolution for a tax question. However, the resulted 1040 didn't reflect what was entered in the software input's parameter and although I paid for a full review from the TurboTax team, this error escaped the TurboTax team and was discovered by the IRS. When reviewed with a TurboTax professional, the TurboTax professional discovered that the tax software in fact placed numbers on the wrong line. When we tried to do an amendment, that form - 1040X had wrong line information. The TurboTax professional put in a escalation to address this so that I could do an amendment.

Doing the time software investigation, TurboTax consistently told me that I had enter something wrong, that they don't pay "my" taxes. TurboTax never told me that they had updated the software, but inside tried to make me feel that I had entered something wrong in the software. Once the an amendment is started in their software, the 1040 information is zeroed out. The 1040X (amendment) uses the information created from the 1040. Those amounts cannot be changed by you or I. However, when the software itself was updated, the information showed on the correct lines of the 1040X. I have a 1040X from a date before the software was changed and another file after the software changed with unlatching matching line information. The bottom line, the data (numbers) are the same, I can't change the numbers if I want to, so why are the amendments different? Because TurboTax modified their software to get the correct line information.

In spite of the fact that their software created and sent wrong line information that caused IRS to overpay me, and the fact that they had to modify the software to generate a correct amendment, they feel no guarantee is granted because there was no interest or penalties generated by the IRS. No, they wanted some of the money back. TurboTax was not accountable for the incorrect advice that was given to me by their cpa. TurboTax was not accountable for generating a tax return having incorrect line information and sending to the IRS. TurboTax was not accountable for not catching this error in their own review which I paid for. TurboTax was not accountable for any accuracy guarantee.

I know they are not responsible for paying my taxes, but should be responsible for their advice, their reviews and sending misinformation. Without their mistake, I would had not been overpaid. But what really got to me is that they never admitted to any mistake at any time. They tried to put the whole thing on me. I have amendments, documentation showing when they updated the software, letter advising me of their decision. With all of the mistakes they made, they used the fact that interests and penalties were not generated by the IRS to keep from paying $210. Nothing is credible with TurboTax. I will not use again.

When I e-filed my 2017 taxes on January 30 online through TurboTax's website I chose the standard free addition with the 1040A form. Which if you ask the cost for filing for that form on their website, it states $0.00 fee. When you begin the process of filing it provides you with different packages that they offer, with additional services that are included for a fee and you are also given the option to upgrade during the process, if needed. During the filing it asked about itemize for your gas, food and uniform. I begin to try to do that and realized it wouldn't be beneficial for the amount with the upgraded cost, so through the navigation I went back to the standard free filing (not itemizing).

TurboTax explained it was a navigation error (glitch) on the website. Which I believe is true because my amount of refund that it showed on the beginning and throughout the filing process never change with the amount to be deducted. Even when I was on the itemizing section page where it explained the fee for upgrading. Once I finished filling I was given the options to pay fees now or have them deducted from the refund if there were any. I chose to have it taken from the refund. I NEVER agreed or authorized to any other options or was I informed if the tax refund was compromised to a debt such as student loans, that I would be obligated to pay the fees by other means.

Until a email they sent me on March 14th stating I owe $82.37 for the fees. And they was going to attempt to collect it from my bank information which was only provided to deposit my refund. I was charged for the 2017 Turbotax Online Deluxe Tax Year 2017 Prep, 2017 Turbotax Online State Wv Tax Year 2017 Prep. I've called numerous times to get this error with the charges fixed before they try to charge my Bank account. Every representative I've spoken to said it shouldn't be a problem because it's obvious. I shouldn't have been charged for that package which provided services that I did not need and also did not use, when the free edition was all that was required for the type of tax filing.

I have numerous case numbers pertaining to this where have spoke with several. On 04/09 a attempt to debit the $82.37 from my checking account at the time didn't have the funds to cover it so the bank did a return item transaction, which caused a $36.00 fee to my account. On April 14th, I spoke with an agent Sheree; Case **, she also had her supervisor assisting her with resolving this issue. With this conversation they concluded that I should not be charged for the online Deluxe package because I didn't use the services with the package.

The supervisor advised her to also let me know the fee for filing state taxes, I will not owe for either because of the trouble. They advised me an email with a link will be sent to me on what documents to provide for the refund of $36.00 bank fee. **. Which has a incident reference **. I sent the requested documents that evening. I've tried calling to check on the status, but was never given an answer. Then on 04/16 another attempt to debit $82.37 from my account caused another $36.00 return item fee. So I called again and again and not one representative could even give me information to help me resolve this problem and put an end to it.

They just gave me the runaround. On 04/18 I sent a PDF file with both reflected fees to the URL for the refund request. Just got a email today 04/20 stated that because the bank he does not reflect NSF fee, it says returned item fee they will not reimburse me for those charges they caused to my bank account. And the reason it doesn't say NSF and it says returned item is because I don't have overdraft on my account but if there is an attempt debit I do get charged a fee to return that back to the sender. I also called and spoke with several representatives to find out why they are still trying to collect that amount and was it was resolved on 04/14 per the conversation reference case **.

The TurboTax representative stated that there will not be any more attempts to collect from my account. Spoke with a supervisor Matthew case # ** advised me he put detailed notes on the account reflecting the issue and try to get a result for me. He also stated my account reflects that I have had 17 interactions with other representative at TurboTax regarding this issue since 04/10. Going today 04/20 my bank and file fraud charges so hopefully I can get my $72.00 in fees they caused.

I filed an online extension with Turbotax (a free service). I know I put my husband's name on the line for that purpose, but when Turbotax sent in the extension request it put my name on twice instead of his name on the correct line. The extension was rejected. I got an email with a button to click to fix my extension but when I signed into Turbotax there was no place to click to fix the extension. So I tried to get help. Their support number gives no support for free services. You have to pay for support even if it was a problem with their software. There is no email to get help. Their online help desk only sends you to answers that do not help get the problem fixed (they tell you you'd better just go to the IRS site and pay instead of having the extension applied for through Turbotax.) What a mistake using this company! Avoid them!

I recently filed my 2017 with TurboTax. I owed $180 and when it came time to pay the TurboTax system rejected my Debit Card... I went to the 1040.gov website to make my payment and received a confirmation number. This morning I checked my bank account and the rejected payment from Turbo Tax went through resulting in a duplicate payment! I know it's not a lot of money but the hassle to get it returned from the IRS I think will be monumental. I would really recommend to people that they don't try and pay their taxes through TurboTax, but print their return and just mail in a check.

I have used TurboTax since 2002 Home and Business. This year I had to download the version due to illness. Well, after I started, I realized that this was a huge mistake! I was very ill before, but, this just added to my misery... The program was awful. Was unable to retrieve my last year’s information. I had to edit almost everything. I could not get to a schedule C. At that point after hours of trying I gave up (I had closed the business anyway). Then I had to pay $119.00 for download (cd costs 89.00 in stores then another 39.99 to file and I have heard people are getting charge another 39.99 for processing). Note. $39.00 processing charge was not shown on my print out.

I will wait and see if they deduct that charge. As I said: “SHAME ON YOU TURBOTAX!” After all these years, I will never use TurboTax again. You have turned into a greedy, switch and bait company, trying to gouge everything you can out of a customer and while offering less and less. So now, I have to wait and see how long it will take their 3rd party to issue my refund to my bank and just how much more they will take out of it... I hope they get a class action lawsuit!

I e-filed in early February and got a complete hard copy of the form. In early March, when I tried to check "Where's my refund" IRS indicated that they never heard of me. When I went back to my return virtually all of my income had been deleted. I had to go back and reenter the information and again e-filed. My returns, both state and federal, were rejected by IRS leading to the state return being rejected. After a frantic search to get their telephone number I spoke to a "techie" who told me to resubmit the return. Still no success.

The next call resulted in them telling me to use the "Fix my return" feature, which I did. I then resubmitted and it was again rejected. Today, after the filing date, they told me I would have to snail-mail my returns. When I asked for a refund on the filing fee and for them to cover the cost of any late penalties incurred because their system failed they told me I would be called by a supervisor within two hours. It is now 8 hours later and no phone call.

Updated on 04/24/2018: After being insistent I was able to get a supervisor and asked for a full refund of the cost of the software, e-filing fees, mailing expense (minimal) an any IRS penalties for late filing. They sent me a form to fill out for a refund...that's the glitch. They want me to mail them the original software disc at my own expense...if I can find it which I doubt. They want the original sales slip when I purchased the software back in January...long gone. Even though they have all the details in my case they want so much more information that it becomes burdensome to even think about ever seeing my money. Next year I pay an accountant.

So these programs have become a real black box where you cannot see exactly what is going on behind the scenes because I guess they are afraid if you see the tax forms you will just copy the data and go somewhere else. Anyway I looked at a form that I ended up not needing in the self-employment program. I only needed the Deluxe program and they DO NOT LET YOU DOWNGRADE. They tell you just clear your data and start over. Who is going to spend another 5 hours on this crap? NO ONE SHOULD USE THIS RIPOFF Program that won't let you pick the right version at the end.

TurboTax Premier CD software should come with a warning... Beware to those who need to divide income between 2 states. Or more correctly, dividing your wages between GA and NC. We spent hours trying to get TurboTax Premier download of NC state tax return software to allow us to enter the correct split of income between the 2 states... it cannot be done. GA state tax return software appears to work ok. The NC state return software will take the change, then you will go to the next few screens and save your changes.

Then later on, it will remove your changes, and you'll make the changes again, it will take them and the return review process states everything is ok, then before you file your state return, it removes your changes again! We did this process over and over again at least about 10 times... same result every time. We finally gave up, filed our tax return (incorrect) just so we were not late in filing. Now we need to figure out how to get the excess taxes paid to NC. We bet TurboTax will not help pay for that.

Yes if you can actually believe it I think that TurboTax has actually reduced my intelligence by using it. They use a tiered sales system and want you to upgrade, they effectively make you feel stupid and need their help because they withhold information and clear CRA tax references. Maybe clever, but very resentful practice. I chose the "regular" paid return, with much pressure to upgrade. I've done my taxes many times on paper, so I have a reasonable understanding of how things work when filling out a return. I later did another person's taxes on SimpleTax and it was a much more straightforward experience, with line-by-line CRA references and done in a fraction of the time. Using computers was supposed to make taxes less stressful, thanks a lot TurboTax for ruining that, you suck. TurboTax contact or customer service in regards to their product is non-existent. P.S. I also realize "stupider" is not proper English, but I think it is a case in point.

IT USED TO BE EASY. Now it's clumsy and slow. GO "BACK" TO EDIT and you can easily lose entered data. You can get in circles where it keeps sending you back to the same pages. No warning of the $25 extra to e-file state until you are trying to e-file and it smoothly leads you to agree to the added charge by requiring you to notice the trap and to find a not obvious way out. Nor does it warn that you CANNOT e-file without last year's AGI. But no fear, IRS will send a copy in 5-10 days. So you get to that point at the very end and are offered the "option" to file paper (when every PO in miles is closed.).

Turbotax 2018 - Worst year EVER for TurboTax. After selecting my "free" software, and selecting my "Free State", this company charged me $229. AND the taxes are not correct, software showed that I owed taxes, however, when I printed them, it shows ZERO owed which unfortunately is not correct. Can't get anyone in tech support to assist. I want a REFUND!

My Federal Tax was rejected yesterday 4/16/2018: this is the first time in my 12th consecutive year of doing TurboTax that I had multiple problems filing after all entries were made. Plus, the total program asked unnecessary repetitive questions, adding to the time of doing all the inputs/entry process. Now, I'm waiting for pending Federal and MI State e-files, TurboTax: "This happens from time to time, but we're here to help".
