Jaguar extended warranty: cost, coverage & plans
Expect a high price for an official Jaguar plan

Jaguar is known for style and performance, but that’s usually coupled with a high cost of ownership. Therefore, Jag owners might strongly consider investing in an extended warranty before their five-year/60,000-mile factory warranties run out. Jaguar even has an official extended warranty program, but how does it compare with your other options?
We’ll go over what these plans cover, what they cost and whether they’re worth it in the long run.
Key insights
- Jaguar calls its official extended warranties Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plans, and the sole option available under this program is a seven-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
- These plans cost around $5,000 for just 24 months of coverage beyond your Jaguar’s factory warranty.
- That rate (roughly $2,500 per year) is more than twice what RepairPal estimates the average Jaguar to cost each year in maintenance and repairs ($1,183).
- An equivalent third-party warranty may be cheaper, and there’s a good chance you’ll want some form of coverage, given the high cost of Jaguar upkeep.
Jaguar extended warranty coverage
Jaguar’s official, factory-backed extended warranties are called Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plans.
Like practically all auto warranties, these plans are only designed to help with repairs needed as a result of factory defects or faulty designs. In other words, warranties only help with parts that fail on their own and won’t cover the cost of repairs caused by damage, misuse, neglect or regular wear and tear.
A Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan is designed to more or less extend the factory warranty that comes with every Jaguar (five years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage) out to seven years/100,000 miles. That means it effectively lengthens your factory coverage by two years or 40,000 more miles, whichever comes first.
While details online are scant, we spoke to multiple dealers that confirmed that Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plans offer bumper-to-bumper coverage just like the factory warranty. That means they cover the vast majority of components in a car minus a handful of exceptions (cosmetics, wear-and-tear items, various fuses and hoses, etc.).
All Jaguar vehicles are eligible as long as they still have 1,000 miles or 30 days’ worth of factory warranty remaining. The deductible is $100 if you go to an authorized Jaguar dealer for repairs or $250 if you go somewhere else. As for where to buy one, you can only purchase a Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan from an authorized Jaguar dealership.

Jaguar extended warranty benefits
Besides repair coverage, Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plans come with just one additional benefit: 24/7 roadside assistance, which can provide towing, lockout services, battery jump-starts, fuel deliveries and flat tire assistance.
Most other automakers — even nonluxury brands — offer rental car assistance and trip interruption protection with their plans. That said, two of the Jaguar dealers we spoke with said they’d offer a loaner vehicle if one was available.
Jaguar extended warranty cost
As mentioned, you cannot purchase a Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan online. The only way to purchase one — or even collect a quote — is to call up your local Jaguar dealership. So, that’s what we did.
The finance manager we spoke with wasn’t able to provide exact price figures “unless it’s a deal already going through” (i.e., we were purchasing the vehicle in real time), but we were able to extract some estimates based on his experience.
Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan costs
Here are the price ranges that the finance manager at a local Jaguar dealership offered us.
Vehicle | Term | Cost |
---|---|---|
2023 F-Type | 7 years/100,000 miles | $5,000-$7,000 |
2020 XE | 7 years/100,000 miles | $4,500-$6,500 |
2020 F-Pace | 7 years/100,000 miles | $5,000-$7,000 |
For context, the average cost of an extended warranty is around $2,500. So, even on the low end, these are expensive warranties.
Moreover, the Jaguar factory warranty is already pretty generous (five years/60,000 miles). So for $5,000, you’re really only getting two more years of coverage with these plans. $2,500 per year of added coverage is exceptionally expensive. Even Alfa Romeo, Jaguar’s direct competitor, charges just around $800 to $1,000 per year of coverage in our experience.
Is a Jaguar extended warranty worth it?
In most cases, no — a Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan probably won’t be worth it based on the information we’ve seen, and we’ll explain why. Usually, an extended auto warranty is more likely to be worth it if either:
- Your car isn’t very reliable.
- You think your warranty’s price will be less than the repairs it’ll cover.
- You don’t mind paying several thousand dollars for extra peace of mind.
- A large, surprise repair bill could ruin you financially.
We can’t assume whether you identify with the last two points, but we’ll break down the first two to give you a better idea of where you stand.
Jaguar vehicles are not known for long-term dependability. J.D. Power ranked the brand 26th out of 32 automakers in 2023, and while Consumer Reports said it lacked the data to rank Jaguar overall in 2022, its predicted reliability score is only a 2 out of 5.
When things go wrong, Jaguars are not cheap to get back on the road, either. RepairPal estimates that Jaguars cost an average of $1,123 each year in scheduled maintenance and unplanned repairs. (Compare that with the average of $652 across all brands.) Jaguars also visit the shop 0.62 times per year, compared with the average of 0.4 times, and 14% of those trips result in repairs that cost about $2,000 or more.
However, the cost of a Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan is even higher. With a starting price of around $5,000, according to the quotes we received, a Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan costs $2,500 per year of added coverage, which is more than double the cost of expected repairs. For that reason, it makes little sense to invest in one unless you just want protection against catastrophic repairs, like an engine or transmission replacement.
Before we wrap up, let’s see if another warranty company can offer a better deal, though.
Jaguar extended warranty alternatives
If you’re still seeking protection against high repair bills, another extended car warranty company can potentially be a cost-effective alternative to Jaguar’s official program.
Vehicle | Jaguar | Endurance |
---|---|---|
2023 F-TYPE | $5,000 - $7,000 | $4,116 |
2020 F-PACE | $4,500 - $6,500 | $4,116 |
2020 XE | $5,000 - $7,000 | $5,474 |
Needless to say, your results may vary, but Endurance offered us roughly equivalent warranty coverage with even better benefits for about 15% less. (Note: We also tried to get quotes from olive, another warranty company, but it wouldn’t offer us more than Powertrain Plus protection for our sample Jaguars. And those plans came with a larger $500 deductible.)
This illustrates why it’s always best to shop around for an extended auto warranty — it’s virtually impossible to predict who will offer a better deal and why. Given the amount of money you’re investing in an extended auto warranty for your Jaguar, it’s worth taking the time to get multiple quotes and do some research using our hub for extended auto warranty content.
