Vista Energy is a third-party company authorized by government-regulated utility companies like PG&E to sell and distribute electricity and natural gas directly to customers. If you’re in a residential area in California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania or Wyoming, you can have Vista Energy purchase your natural gas or electricity for you and distribute it to your local utility company’s pipeline network.

Vista Energy also provides commercial services in these nine states and in Arizona, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.

How does Vista Energy work?

Vista Energy is considered a Core Transparent Agent, meaning it’s a deregulated energy provider that (ideally) lets you save money on your utility costs while still receiving service from your local regulated utility company. When you choose to enroll with a CTA such as Vista Energy, you pay the price established by the CTA rather than market price.

Vista Energy’s standards of conduct and marketing practices are regulated by the states’ public utilities commissions.

Vista Energy is available in certain residential ZIP codes throughout California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wyoming. As of February 2020, Vista Energy began one- and two-year natural gas plans for agricultural customers in Nebraska.

    A month and half ago, an associate/representative from Vista Energy knocking at my house door and told me that the main purpose of the visit is to lower my utility bill (with PG&E) with no fees attached. I trusted her (the associate). But when I received my PG&E bill, the amount was double (half for PG&E and the other half for Vista Energy). Vista Energy should not be charging this amount. No comment.

    Pushy sales felt like a scam. I’m honestly surprised to see anything indicating they are a legitimate business. I had a representative come to my door and try to rush me into signing up for Vista without even explaining what it was. She had me at the sign up page and was almost filling out the form for me before I could tell her that I needed to look into what in the world she was talking about before I signed up for anything. Signing up would have been a terrible decision, my gas bill would have gone from $12 a month to $1.50 a day…

      Did not do my due diligence... smh as usual. Reading the reviews and neg neg neg. Now what I knew was bs was being told I'd get a $300 gift card to use anytime I wanted online. The welcome letter states no more than $50. The "quoted rate" is higher because my "average rate" with PG & E is higher. PG&E just expensive as shit. Only time I use any real amount of gas is in the winter. These companies use kids to train and lie to potential customers, the idiots, vulnerable ones though. Guess I'll wait and see.

      After speaking with Chris from customer service I came to understand more clearly that the reason for unexpected charges to my account were related to the activities of PG&E. Chris handled my case well and did as much as he could to make things right. Overall I feel better about Vista Energy.

      Sales guy assured me I would only be charged one one flat rate per month. When I received my first bill the rate was twice the promised amount, apparently the sales guy neglected to mention I would ALSO be charged “distribution fees” by PG&E. After calling customer service and experiencing more broken promises I cancelled with Vista Energy. Now, three months later I’m receiving a gas bill that is 3x higher than it should be because of “bill corrections” from the months with Vista energy. We’re already struggling financially and this is just heartbreaking. I feel helpless and hopeless.

      I had a sale rep come to my house and explain that I was going to pay cheaper gas. He was a fast talker and I got suckered in. I did the math and didn’t make sense for me. I immediately called to cancel and spoke to Kathy. She was helpful in canceling and didn’t push me to keep their service. I appreciate her help.

      I had no idea that PG&E was going to give us the Shaft, but it’s typical. I got a bill from PG&E for a delivery fee on the Gas burner, don’t have it delivered to our place. I called Vista and told them they dropped the price, Huge to offset the Bogus charge PG&E hit us with for delivery, which they do NOT even do. Typical like in the Army, I had to take a bit and ask for another.

      Vista Energy rep came to my door twice tonight. He had a Vista badge. I said I was not interested and he said he would come to my door every day until I showed him a memo mailed to me from PG&E. I said no and closed the door telling him not to come back. I have never experienced this type of selling tactic. I do not think it will work out for this company.

      I was enrolled in an annual contract with Vista and was getting charged double the original amount after the contract ended. It took me 2 months to realize this and so would have been good if Vista would send a reminder when the existing contract is about to expire. I called their customer service and Kathy explained the reason for the extra charge and helped me lower my rate by moving my account to another plan. She was very prompt and helpful.

      Knocked on my door and said there was a mistake with my gas bill and that I was being overcharged. Only after showing them my bill and clicking through some forms did I realize that this was not my previous gas provider and that they were trying to sell me something. I guess they technically didn't lie but they also didn't really tell the truth. Canceled by phone immediately after, certainly hope I don't get charged.

      How can they tell older seniors they will get a better rate and a good budget plan. I believe they take advantage by saying that.. Because today when I called them to check out what my passing Mom was on I learned that Vista is .96 cents a therm and Nicor is at .28 cents a therm!! The bill was outrageous.. 01/14/2025 guess who I canceled with today. Yup VISTA!! Be warned. They did cancel with me fast.. so they get a 1 star.

      The sales rep was a fast talker and misrepresented the rate. He compared their daily rate to PG&Es per therm rate, but he phrased is as, “you are paying $2.30 with them and you would be paying $1.49 with us.” When I got the confirmation call, and Tellie said it was $1.49/day I did some quick math and it meant I would be paying double with Vista. Tellie was very nice and was quick to cancel my contract. All in all, it’s deceptive marketing, but at least canceling was easy.

      I had a good experience with Vista's canvassing employees. They are very kind and believe in their company. I had never heard of Vista. I've lived in Fresno practically all my life and was interested in decreasing my PG&E bill. However, when I mentioned this to my son I was told there's a hidden monthly fee. That was not mentioned to me. So for that reason, I had second thoughts. The CSR was naturally curious as to why I changed my mind, but assured me that wasn't a problem. Why is there no information left on a handout, or a flyer, listing the pros in writing, so I could refer to it? That left me unable to prove to myself it was a good service. Also, I was easily persuaded otherwise. My gas bill is $11 to $15 monthly. Your monthly fee would not have help me lower my gas bill and if I hadn't canceled now, I would have been charged a cancelation fee after 30 days. It's ok, no harm, no foul.

      I really appreciate this company. I was just scammed out of almost $500 by Statewise energy. So as of now I want absolutely no 3rd party gas. The lady was very understanding and kind. She offered me other plans but I'm not comfortable using another 3rd party at the moment so she did an early cancelation free of charge.

      This company has been harassing tenants and forcing their way into apartments in Clovis California. Beware do not open your door to these people. They lie about their service being mandatory and will do anything they can to harass you into doing business with them. These people deserve prison.

      Vista gas went above and beyond to clear up the problems getting Pg&E to acknowledge vista as our gas supplier. Have used them for over a year and made an error in changing to another supplier. Happy to be back with Vista. Thank you Chris and Jackie for your assistance.

      Called to cancel but Rebecca was nice enough to fully explain how I could get locked into a lower rate and save money. I ended up keeping my service and locking in the low rate for 12 months. Rebecca also instructed me to call back every 12 months to lock in that low rate. Thank you!

      I called Vista to clarify the high charges on my account. Rebecca answered my call and explained what I had signed up for. She looked at my account and made me understand that the terms I signed up for do not actually work for the amount of usage I have. She recommended to change my terms to $0.69 per term for the next 12 months. She explained the usage I have and since it’s a flat rate, I am paying more. Rebecca is very professional and easily understood, her customer service skills are excellent. Thank you Rebecca for being patient to seniors like me.

      Well I had a young man come to the door to get me to switch to your company I listened to him and the rate was cheaper. When I was signing the paperwork I didn't notice the 1$ charge per day, my fault. I just don't appreciate being lied to. Anyway, I noticed it afterwards and the nice gentleman on the phone helped me cancel my contract. I wonder how many older, or visually impaired people your company lies to and gets them to change. Glad I caught it.
