I have been robbed countless times even if I send my payment the very next day I go through the toll. They still send me a bill with a late fee. There is no one to complain to about this. They do it on purpose. The supervisor is never there but useless anyway the rare occasion she is. SOMEONE IS DIGGING IN THIS FUND. My experience is that when something government is run like a mafia operation is that there's a secret fat cat here. My take is Cuomo. But then again it's a dice roll as to who is getting a Ferrari out of this fund.

It’s horrible, I never received a bill nor letters until the bill was high, charging me a violation for an E-Z Pass I bought but I never activated. I called and they advice me to write a letter explaining the situation and to ask the fees to be waived, to wait so that way I could be charged just for tolls $8.50, and I did so, 4 months later finally a letter as their reply arrived stating my bill had been send to collections and I called again and they said they no longer had control over that; that I had to get in touch with Collections. I called Collections, but they said since is over $3,000, so they said the I do not qualify for adjustments, agreements nor discounts.
The total to pay they said, "It is $7,995," I can’t sleep, I can’t think straight, I don’t know what to do now, and to top it all off, now another letter arrived and It’s from collections, they are on the lookout for any income entering my household, that will be taken from me to cover for debt. I need help!!! God and I are in the fight with this, I know that god will help me!!?? Only god can help me now!!!

I had the same experience with most people, never received the first letter but then received the notice of violation with violation fee $100. I just want share one possible way for you to avoid the violation fee and further collection even if you dispute. You can create a New York E-Z Pass account online, remember, must be New York. Then you can see 'resolve the violation' when you get on the page of violation fee. Then with your New York E-Z Pass, your violation fee will be dismissed. Hope everyone can avoid the violation fee.

Forget the Mob, the biggest criminals in NY is the MTA. I get a bill for $56 in tolls and $600 in fines for not paying the tolls. I never received any prior bills, just one. I am 78 years old, live on Social Security, Medicare. I have Lupus and Lung Cancer and have a 25 year old car that is in worse shape than I am. I use the car to go to the doctor over the bridge. I have no money other than for food and these pieces of dirt want $600. You can all drop dead, doing this to old people who have nothing so fat slobs who sit in offices get a fatter paycheck like their waist. I hope you all go to prison, I cannot and will not ever pay.

If I could rate my experience as no stars...I would. I received a letter in the mail, "NOTICES OF VIOLATION ENFORCEMENT ACTION" claiming I ran a toll without paying. I can assure you I paid if they went and checked the cameras and the speed of my car. They are billing me to pay the toll AGAIN so I contacted them and spoke to representatives to only be told I need to go out of my way and get a lawyer to go court and dismiss this. That is the only way they are willing to review cameras. They are STEALING money from me because if they check the cameras or even the speed of the car, I did in fact pay the toll. They also claim they are sending a letter of appeal and will notify me in thirty days but to know if they deny it I will have to pay the increased violation fee. How is their faulty tolls my problem? This is ridiculous.

I wish I didn't have to give any stars. The MTA as a whole is the biggest racket, and I can't help but liken them to organized crime. Extorting riders daily, and we have to submit to their demands or we can't get to our jobs to feed our families. Cashless toll is their new racket. There are so many scenarios that make this method of toll collection wrong. $100 administration fees, I know MTA workers that do absolutely nothing for a whopping paycheck and you want to steal my hard earned money that was already used to take down the toll booths and decrease available jobs only to rob it again for going through your toll bridge.

Always had my E-Z Pass set up on auto pay, BEFORE this "Cashless Tolls" nonsense. Never had a problem. Now with this cashless tolls nonsense, they have cameras they could take pictures of your license plates but they don't have scanners that can read the transponder between 40 to 50 miles an hour. So now all the tolls pile up and to add insult injury they charge for these nonsense fees that is basically robbery. I don't know how we allow New York State E-Z Pass, port authority and the MTA to get away with this!!! This cashless tolls systems is a disaster.
It was better when they had gates because the transponder would get read and a toll will get paid right there and then not pile up because this new cashless toll system can read my transponder going between 40 to 50 miles an hour. My checking account got charged $440!!! Over 5 days!!! And all I have is 1 E-Z Pass!!! All I do is cross the Whitestone bridge!! I was getting charged $85 every 2 weeks using the Whitestone bridge 5 days a week, where does $440!!?? Come from??? I don't use any other toll roads!!! This system had to be revised!!! Or class action lawsuit!!! Because this spell straight out SCAM and the hardworking people are getting raped by the state and big government!

I moved across the country back in November. Today I received in the mail a collection notice from MTA bridges and tunnels E-Z Pass for $68.70. I know absolutely nothing about these charges. I call up E-Z Pass and speak with i’ll customer service representative. She tells me the E-Z Pass charges were from a transporter of my vehicle to my new location. I explained to her that that was a huge truck with many other vehicles on it. She then tells me that I would have to follow up with the transporter and have him pay it. And then follow up with the collection agency.
I requested to speak to supervisor. A Cesar who says he’s a supervisor got on the phone. He told me the exact same thing. When I pushed him for answers on why I would have to go after my transporter for the E-Z Pass system asked Accidentally picking up my E-Z Pass he told me it’s not his problem. I would have to get the money from the transporter.
I don’t understand. I never should’ve been charged to begin with. They have camera systems for every E-Z Pass. They can easily see it was not my vehicle that was driving, it was being transported to another state. I am furious. They don’t want to help in any way. How did this become my problem. Now I have to deal with the transporter who had nothing to do with this and Transworld Systems Collection agency who never should have received this in the first place.

My issue with the new E-Z Pass system is that you HAVE to purchase the equipment in order to avoid "invoice and administrative fees" for E-Z Pass having to take the time to mail you an invoice. I am not sure about everybody else, but I feel this is corrupt and I feel people are being abused by this system. Here is why I feel this way: E-Z Pass has decided to remove the physical toll booths where we had a choice to be able to actually pay our travel fees (as we were traveling); and with taking away the toll booths, they so cleverly also took away their having to pay overhead, so guess who makes out... A LOT? They no longer pay overhead or maintenance on tollbooths, AND they get to charge us a fee on top of it. How is this legal??? I am really very disappointed and saddened with the way this country allows state government to take advantage of hardworking people.

I moved to Springfield Mass October of 2017. It was at this time that all of the toll booths were coming down. Like someone else wrote here I was waiting for my pay by plate bills. I never received any of them as well and now I'm being forced to pay $800 for tolls that are less than two or three dollars. I appealed their decision for this amount that I owe. They took three weeks to give me an answer. When I finally got the answer it was pretty much of thinly veiled threat and if I didn't pay it the fees will continue to go up. This is ridiculous. This is taking rent money from myself and my children and food off of my table. Not only do I have to pay these exorbitant fees my daughter who just finish paying her car off also has to pay over $700 in fees. Why is the state of Massachusetts taking money from people who could least afford it. There has to be something done. A class action suit would be in order. I am so disgusted!

UNACCEPTABLE! CORRUPT E-Z PASS NY MUST BE STOPPED!!! Today I received a letter where $23 dollars of due tolls magically translates to $273 dollars of theft to the citizens of the state of New York. How in the world can I be demanded to pay $250 dollars of "violation fees" when I never asked the governor to sign into law cashless tolls? Why? I am an E-Z Pass tag holder and instead of transferring whatever amount I am supposed to be charged because of crossing NYC bridges and tunnels, they choose to send me to a collection agency in less than 4 months since the day I passed through the tolls.
Why are these toll crossing dues being perceived as tickets or violations? Why charge me $70 dollars per month because your failed system could not read my tag? Two of my close friends got a letter in the mail just like me today and they owe up to $5,000 dollars! on toll balances that did not exceed $80 dollars!!! This is an outraged! And if you call E-Z Pass all they do is tell you that nothing can be done because the debt is now in the hands of debt collectors. Meaning that now your credit will get ruined. NO THANKS! I rather wait in NYC traffic to pay my tolls in cash.

Something has to be done immediately! Back in September of 2017 I came to NY for a funeral. This was my first time in NY in over 15 years. And when I was last in NY 15 years ago I didn’t even have my own car. I unfortunately wasn’t aware of the “cashless tolls” when I drove into NY last September. I was told by a worker that was walking across the toll lane that I would be billed for the toll. 4-5 months later I finally get a bill for over 100.00. Of course I called and got absolutely no resolution. The guy just kept telling me that I was in the wrong and if that’s what it says that I owe then that’s what I owe.
Let’s not take into account that I wasn’t aware of the cashless toll. And let’s not take into account that it took me 4-5 months to get a bill. He said, "Well I don’t know why you didn’t get a bill." Customer service is as sorry as their cashless toll system. I can’t give these people anymore monetary. I have paid the bill once and I’m still getting bills. They don’t see in the system that I paid. Silly me paid with a money order and having it tracked is also a nightmare but I’m working on it.

So I too received two orange envelopes in the mail and wondered wth is this. One bill for $5 with $100 fee and the other $6 with $40 fee. A couple of things, first, DON'T PAY THE FEES! If people keep paying the fees, this scam will continue. Pay the toll that you owe. On the back of the toll is a section for you to dispute the toll. Write that you didn't receive the bill, which is true. Then mail that in. They were offering amnesty for Cuomo bridge but that stopped.
Call: The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Violation Amnesty program has ended. To resolve your outstanding Thruway Violations please call 1-800-333-8655. Perhaps they can help you. Contacted the Attorney General for NY, Eric Schneiderman and complain. On twitter, you will find David Carlucci, a member of the New York State Senate perhaps he can help you. He reached out to me but my two bills were dismissed. Good luck to everyone! If enough of us complain, just maybe they will be held accountable.

We did get the bill... 2 months later with $100 violation tacked on to each time we cross the bridge! $17 in tolls plus $200 in violations. We followed the dispute instructions and mailed it in. Explained that there was no way for us to know of these changes when we are coming from another state but are happy to pay our tolls. The reply we received was a COLLECTIONS LETTER! We were not negligent. We were prepared to pay our tolls as always. Someone coming from another state will not know of these changes, should be given the opportunity to pay their tolls but SHOULD NOT be forced to pay a violations!! When the cashless toll system was just starting on routes we use (MTA Tolls), we were not surprised not to receive bills promptly, figured they were just backed up. We were surprised when we finally got 3 bills with $100 and $50 in fees added! $290 total for 3 tolls. These bills were early 2017. We did receive bills promptly for tolls used later in 2017 and 2018 - which were paid promptly (one did have a $5 fee - not worth arguing about) We were told on the phone that we had to write in to appeal the fees, which we did. I explained that I never got initial bills, asked to have fees waived. The response we received? That we owe the fees because we didn't pay the initial bill! I will continue to dispute these, have no problem paying initial toll, but I should not be penalized for their incompetence.

This is a total scam, they have a system that is unable to distinguish license plates properly. A few months ago I began getting notifications of toll violations on my plate from the NJ Turnpike. I have never been to NJ and the violations are very obviously not my car and the plate doesn't match up at all. After trying multiple times to get this resolved via phone, website, and mail I'm still receiving notices that I owe money for something I didn't do. Not only that, they charge a $50 fine for each toll violation. These people are criminals with a computer system that does not function properly. They don't care who they bill as long as they get their money and send it to collections when you don't pay a bill that isn't yours in the first place.

My vehicle had passed (9) cashless toll systems between the timeframe of 6/30/17 and 8/3/17, incurring $59.50 of tolls. This was acknowledged by myself, the registered owner of the vehicle. At the time I was not familiar with the E-Z Pass system. I attempted to search on the internet to try and pay the acquired tolls. Internet search results brought me to The MTA Bridges and Tunnels Toll Payment Website. I performed multiple searches from the time I acknowledged my vehicle had passed the cashless toll systems, up to the date of receiving violations. The MTA Bridges and Tunnels Toll Payment Website did not report any pending tolls or violations, and stated Receipt/Plate: (**) "paid".
Within the month of September 2017 my spouse was able to contact an E-Z Pass New York Customer Service Center representative and was told to wait for the toll bill to be sent to your mailing address. Soon after, I began to receive violations with impending collections for the total sum of $759.50 or $700.00 of fines. I was shocked to receive these violations after performing due-diligence, using best available information present to me. I was supposed to receive two separate bills in the mail, one combining (5) tolls and the other combining (4) tolls. Presumably, I should have also received additional letters with imposed late fees. Initial notification was NOT delivered to my mailing address prior to toll violations. The cashless toll system is supposed to send tolls by mail to the owner of the registered vehicle.
After sending in dispute letters to try and resolve the violations, it was later found that E-Z Pass NY Service Center, Violation Processing Unit had adjudicated my dispute letter and notified me that I am responsible for paying the violation, tolls and fees in full. There was no indication regarding how they adjudicated the dispute letter or their reasoning behind why I should be punished for a toll payment I had full intention on paying. In the process of disputing the violations they had sent me to collections, TRANSWORLD SYSTEMS INC. to collect $300.00 from one of the violations, possibly damaging my credit and creating a record against my name. After numerous attempts to speak with E-Z Pass New York Customer Service Center representatives I was able to speak with a supervisor that placed a request for a re-review of my previous dispute letters per my demands.
One month later I received a violation dispute determination letter from E-Z Pass Violations Processing Unit, Stating, MTA Bridges & Tunnels has agreed to accept a settlement amount of $20.00 for the MTA violation fees owed on the above account provided payment is made in full within 30 days of this letter. "If payment is not made within the allowed time slot the fee will be $200.00." Any fine imposed concerning the violations mentioned within this report is unjust, and should be immediately dismissed by this corrupt agency. I decided to make the requested settlement payment of $20 to avoid any additional fees and/or damage to my credit, or vehicle registration status as a result of coercion by E-Z Pass Violations Processing Unit.

I received a letter from E-Z Pass NY because of a violation on Tappan Zee bridge, and as many people mentioned the first letter I received had $5 in toll fee and $100 in administrative fee. The first letter I received said that I have failed to respond to two previous collection mails. However, I did not receive mentioned mails before. 10 days later, I received another letter saying I only owed $5.
If I go to ** , the system shows that I owe $105. If I go to https://wwwapps.thruway.ny.gov/amnesty, the system shows that I owe $5. I contacted NY E-Z Pass to dispute the charges. The lady mentioned that I should pay $5 toll fee, and send another "dispute" letter to NY E-Z Pass. It is such an unnecessary hassle because I keep my license plate up to date, always have positive balance on my account, and always have my E-Z Pass tag visible on my car. I assume the reason that I received this letter is because my E-Z Pass is registered to NJ and I had the violation on NY. I used to be satisfied with E-Z Pass service. It seems like over the past 2 months they decided to just send random collection mails to everyone with administrative fees. I am afraid to receive another letter for no reason.

Late September of 2017 I drove to JFK airport in NY. We passed through cashless tolls that say, "A bill will be mailed to the address associated with your vehicle plate." A month or so later I received the first of a few letters from E-Z Pass saying I had not paid my toll of 17 dollars for the September 29 2017 bill. Unlike many others, who have written to complain, I had not yet received any hefty fines attached to the toll bill. I went to their website and paid the bill. The website also tells you if you have additional charges and it said that my balance was zero. Then not long after that I received another E-Z Pass bill stating that I had not paid a 17 dollar toll (with additional charges) for that same trip to JFK which I also paid figuring that perhaps I must have passed through cashless tolls going in and out. Who would remember weeks or months after especially if you are not from the area?
But if there were two cashless tolls that I had passed on the same day then why was I billed on two separate occasions? Not long after another E-Z Pass bill arrived stating that I had not paid the 17 dollars with additional fines but also said to disregard the notice if payment had already been made which I did. But the E-Z Pass bills kept coming stating that the bill is not paid. I tried contacting E-Z Pass with the number they provide but all I got was an automated message giving options on how to pay your bill. They make it very easy to pay but difficult to make a complaint. Now almost five months after that day I received a new E-Z Pass bill stating that since I had not paid the 17 dollar toll there is an additional 100 dollar fine added and that if I do not pay the fine it will go into collections with addition charges and fees and or suspension of my vehicle registration.
After reading the new letter I went to the E-Z Pass website which said something different. Instead of 117 dollars there was a fine of only 22 dollars for the September 29 2017 toll that I have already paid twice which made me think that the new letter could be a scammer posing as E-Z Pass. As I was writing this letter and gathering the necessary copies of documents, the fine amount which was showing as 22 dollars on the E-Z Pass website instantly updated to the 117 dollar fine so I was assured that this new bill of 117 was not a scam as E-Z Pass courteously informs us to be aware of scam letters posing as E-Z Pass. I have a copy of both the 22 dollar fine and the 117 dollar fine. How can E-Z Pass be trusted when their digital records are slower than their paper documents?
Even if I get through to an E-Z Pass representative and they do admit wrongdoing on their part and waive the fines, it does not correct the problem caused for all the other people who are unwilling to speak up and instead opt to just continue paying unnecessary fines on tolls already paid for out of fear. Very few people have the stomach to wait a long time behind a phone before reaching an actual person to make a complaint. And fewer still are strong enough to win over someone whose job it is to make sure that the fine is paid in full. The EZ Pass billing system seems to be designed, legally of course, to drain as much money out of timid citizens as they can until they are forced to correct their procedures. If this has been going on for years now without any change then the only way to solve this issue would be to get rid of the E-Z Pass system or replace it entirely.

I then realized that I did not fully understand the requirements for the cashless toll system, I did not know that I had to retain the tag in my auto when going through the toll. I had established an online account and saw money was being taken out from my checking account.
When I called E-Z Pass service and spoke with miss ** and ask her what was going on with my E-Z Pass account and why wasn't I sent a notice about late payments she told me that they don't send notices. That and I should have been checking my emails for charges. I then ask her how much do I owe. She told me $8000.00. I was shocked. $6765.00 in violation fees. I then told her I would like to pay the total toll amount, but she said she can't waive the violation fee and that I would have pay the full amount. She further intimidated me by saying that the total amount was about to be sent to collections if I don't pay soon. In frustration I had to use a credit card and pay the full amount 8092.50. I traveled to NY in September from Connecticut and never received a bill for the cashless tolls. In February I was charged $17 plus $200 in fees as a violation. This is my first notification of the tolls and I received it over 120 days after the event. They claim they don't have my address on file at the DMV even though the DMV has repeatedly sent me mail in the past regarding the yearly tax I have to pay on my vehicle. Furthermore, I went through a cashless toll in MA and they had no problem sending the bill to my house. I honestly believe that E-Z Pass willingly delayed sending out my toll in order to collect a violation fee. I was robbed and I'm so disappointed in the NY government and E-Z pass. The worst part is, I went to the website a few days after crossing the toll and my license plate was clean. I held off to wait for the bill and forgot all about it, then a couple of months later they send me a 100 fee for a bill of 8.50... Has anyone found a way to get the bill reduced? Has anyone heard of a class action being raised for this robbery?

I just got off the phone with a manager at E-Z Pass. I can't believe the amount of stress I just went through. Today I received my FIRST notice of violation enforcement action one month after the first date it occurred. There was five violations charges of full price toll fares for $17.00 each transaction with a $100 administrative fee making it total of $585.00.
When I called to find out why I am getting these charges they said, my credit card expired. I proceeded to tell them I was never made aware that my CC expired and gave them my new CC to apply to my account. E-Z Pass said, they will waive the fees for the first five violations fees. Then, proceeded to tell me I have another five violations being mailed out today and since those are considered my second notice of violations those fees will not be waived. I asked, Why are you sending out a second notice today if I just found out my CC expired and I just paid you in full? I also explained I have been a loyal customer for over twenty years with no history of late payments.
They simply said, "This is how our system works. You agreed to the terms and conditions". When did I agree to these terms twenty or more years ago? When we had actual toll booth clerks to advise us our CC are low. I will be disputing the additional charges and hope ConsumerAffairs can get involved and do something about this, I believe this is extortion.

I have two issues with E-Z Pass, I have an active E-Z Pass account, during construction of the toll-less booths at the RFK Bridge in July and August in 2017, I was charged for non-payment of tolls despite my sensor being in my window. Apparently, my sensor couldn't be read because on November 22, 2017, I received a toll violation notice from E-Z Pass. The amount was for $1,193.50, $93.50 for unpaid tolls and $1,100 for administration fees.
I spoke with E-Z Pass customer service representative Maribella, who said I could pay the unpaid toll amount and file a dispute form to have the administrative fees waived. She added I should receive a decision in writing in 30 days. On November 22, 2017 I mailed a check for $93.00 (which was cashed by E-Z Pass on December 22, 2017) and the completed dispute form to E-Z Pass. While awaiting a decision on whether the administration fees were waived, I received a letter from a Collection Agency on December 20, 2017, requesting the $1,193.50. As of February 3, 2018, there has been no decision on whether the administration fees have been waived.
On December 18, 2017, I received another violation notice for a different set of unpaid tolls from September 2017 and administration fees totaling $217.00 ($17.00 tolls-$200 administration fees). I checked my E-Z Pass account and noticed I was billed for the same day, date, location, time and lane as was listed in the violation. I faxed a screenshot of my account with the information to E-Z Pass with the completed violation letter on December 28, 2017. On January 11, 2018, I called E-Z Pass for an update on both accounts, I spoke with William who asked me to sent a copy of my E-Z Pass statement to support the screenshot photo I faxed earlier. I faxed the statement from my account the night of January 11, 2017.
On January 22, 2018 I received a letter from a Collection Agency requesting payment for $217.00, once again while awaiting a decision on my dispute. On February 2, 2018, still looking for an update, I called E-Z Pass and spoke with Customer service representative Brittany who said there was still no decision on either of my disputes. When asked if I could speak with a manager or supervisor to try and render closure to this nightmare, I was ignored and told no decision has been rendered. This needs to stop, while your case is being decided, your account should not be turned over to a collection agency to have an adverse impact on your credit rating. I hope you can help me. Thanks.

They have a new amnesty but it only covers those who traveled through the Mario Cuomo Bridge. The amnesty should be available to all those who are victims of the same Scam due to their glitches and because they send their bills attached with a $ 100 fee for a toll that was only $8.50. I remembered receiving a notice about this once before some months back and have simply mistakenly forgot to pay it, as the last time I did attempt to make a payment on it their website was experiencing issues and I could log access my account to make the payment. I wasn't willing to spend an hour over a $3 bill, so I moved on and figured I would pay it later.
Well, I went to pay the bill today so I could process my updated registration, and found that $3 toll bill had increased to *$122.32* as a result of various hidden fees and "civil penalties." I immediately called their support department upon realizing this trying to explain this was just a mistake and to see if I could get the fees waived. The person I talked with was extremely rude to me, said she would only waive $6 from the bill, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor she said there weren't any in and there was nothing else she could do to help me.

It all started in the spring of 2016. I had to take my disable brother to several dental appointments to replace his dentures in White Plains which lasted several months. I watch channel 12 news which air in the Orange County NY area several times a day. Not once, during 2016 did the news televised the toll booth in Rockland County (Tapan Zee bridge AKA the Mario Cuomo Bridge) would be removed and cash wasn't an option anymore. I never had an E-Z pass account. I rarely left Orange County NY unless I went to see relatives in Manhattan. I would pay the Harriman toll cash in Woodbury NY and take the Thruway to the Palisades Parkway to get to the the George Washington Bridge full service booths.
When we traveled to his appointment we notice for the first time there wasn't a toll booth and a lot of construction located where the toll booth use to be. Confused, we continue over the bridge every other week, we just thought the toll was free. I never received a bill for several months until my daughter moved to the NYC and was no longer living in my 2nd home that I owned. Several orange violations bills in the mailbox when I went to clean the home. After complaining that the address had been changed from my PO box that both vehicles were registered to for many years and the tolls could have been paid. I had proof that the address was changed on the bill and mailed to the wrong address.
After calling my daughter she indicated E-Z pass mention to her in winter of 2016 the previous year that American Express credit card had declined. There wasn't any funds in the e-pass account which cause the violation. She had asked them months before to closed the account. She traded in her car. She had a different vehicle at the time. "Where were the original bills," she asked? When she gave them the address to mail the paper bills they change the address on the account. The original was never mailed. Only violations. When I called American Express they claim there wasn't any charges submitted. I had to call the DMV and speak with Andrea, she was able to resolved everything and changed the registration back to the P.O. Box both vehicles were registered to. $2100 worth of administration fees later without the original bills never received in the first place.
Collection agencies were writing to me because the tolls violations that were sitting in the mailbox at her home w/o our knowledge had never been paid. Her tolls only totaled $85 but the administration fees were over $1300. That is how it all started. After paying over $800 to settle the bill. That should be illegal by the way. Flawed system. I started receiving violations bills for my vehicles because I didn't have an E-Pass account. I started calling around and found out I could not get an E-Z pass account because my daughter vehicle plate was registered to me and they had never closed the old account. I had to call the DMV several times to resolved this issue after leaving voice mails. DMV somehow were able to separate the licensed plates because why should I be penalized for an account that was never closed. I was finally able to open my own account to pay as I go, since I rarely leave my county.
Forced to get an account. My tag wasn't working the first day I used it. Long story short, my checking and credit card was on file. Now I was told it would take months to generate the bills and for me to received them. My checking account was available for use for two months. Months later the bill was generated but my business checking was closed. I had to change my business to a LLC which required me to closed the old account but my credit card was available. After calling around e-pass indicated my checking account had declined and they deleted my credit card on file. So now, I didn't have any form of payment on my e-pass account. Once again, I was receiving violation notices. What a scam. They charged my Amex card in July 2017 but indicated Amex declined charges and there wasn't any funds in the account.
I signed up for pay as you go. System is flawed if it take months later to apply charges to your account. The checking account was available during the months I traveled and a back up Amex card was an another form of payment on file. I called Amex and they indicated the only charged e-pass submitted was in July 2017. Okay, that is my proof my card was on file. I was told recently there wasn't. Why? They deleted it. I am so over it and this has cause me to have anxiety every time I pick up my mail at the post office. Recently I was told that I inputted my plate with NY in front of my plate when I applied for my e-pass online and now I have to send a copy of my registration to Correspondence in Albany. Hello, where was the notice about this? In addition, there is another account with my daughter plate. I told them that account should had been merged and I requested it to be closed last year prior.
The saga continues. I was told that if I closed my account, I would be sent a toll by mail but it will take some time for the bills to be received. I don't care how long it take. I am considered it but not sure if that is a scam and will cause me more anxiety and money because they can say they mailed it. I visited Texas last summer for the first time. Guess what? Their cashless tolls work. As a real estate broker, I have told all my clients about my situation. Clients beware! I hope my situation can help just one person. I don't understand why if you don't travel often you are forced to sign up.
In addition, there was a E-Z Pass commercial with actor "Leguizamo" driving a car on TV indicated to viewers "either you take the easy way or the hard way." What kind of commercial threatening or inform viewers they will be consequences if you don't get a e-pass. What is New York coming to. Shame on you E-Pass for creating anxiety and confusion among family members, hard working residents and tax payers that live in Orange County. Where was the instructional commercials? News coverage? Or a mailer with fee schedule, what bridges are cashless now and more detail rules and regulations. Hopefully my issues can be solved. If not, I will file a complaint with the attorney general office.

We're in one of the busiest cities; we don't have time to sit there and go - "oh hey! Maybe it's time to call them again and NOT speak with a customer rep!" I wasted my day off with this, and still haven't gotten to speak with a representative. This is obviously them not answering any concerns of them ripping off the citizens of this city. Screw the 'tolls by mail' crap. Thankfully, my other car with E-Z Pass haven't had any issues... Keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to all you other commuters.

There were a couple of incidents where I was charged the full $17 even though I had 3 people in the car. I mean seriously! For the measly $2 discount, do you really think I would want to pay $17 knowing I didn't have the 3 people and try to cheat? The $17 is already ridiculous to charge in the first place! Sometimes people forget to switch it back to default and drive through by accident, so charge the 5.50 resident price. What the hell is the $17 charge for? Such scammers!! MTA is a horrible bunch! Whoever is running this and making these ridiculous rules have got to go.
I requested to show me the picture and the proof! I go through the bridge every single day because my son goes to school in Brooklyn and my mom also works in Brooklyn, I have 3 people carpooling back and live in SI. I have joined E-Z Pass for the 3rd time recently since its inception. I highly recommend if you do not use NorthEast toll roads every month...keep using cash. I will not list my horrible experience in the past as current pros or cons but do want to sympathize with users that have gotten hundreds of dollars forcefully charged straight to credit/debit card. There are certain fundamental courtesies of customer service where E-Z Pass is way beyond grossly negligent.
Pros> 1. Faster travel through toll areas via use of E-Z Pass only lanes, 2. Discounted toll in some participating toll areas, 3. No need for cumbersome toll-by-mail in toll areas without cash lanes, 4. E-Z Pass transponders are normally transferable between your vehicles, 5. Can use same account/transponder in multiple states in the NorthEast,
Cons> 1. Web-page is not laid out well. Login is counter-intuitive. Paperless billing $20 discount is difficult to find and even more difficult to understand it balancing out on bill. As it is mandatory to have your registered vehicle info and payment info up to date to prevent issues, it is completely unacceptable to have their web interface this cumbersome.
2. Customer service is inadequate. Standard difficulty getting through to a person, and multiple calls usually needed to solve an issue. There is a general sense that E-Z Pass is allowing us the privilege of using the service, with no thankfulness to customers and no sense of responsibility to take care of customers. ("I'm sorry we overcharged you $X but it is not our fault and there is nothing we can do about it."). Sometimes will charge hundred of times more in fines and fees than the initial toll cost. Makes changes to plans without communication (Replenishment charge went up and it took a phone call and 1.5 hours to find the generic answer "On evaluation of toll usage, your replenishment has been changed from $25 to $35." There was no warning of this via existing email or text communications.)
3. A service provider should not have the power to fine and charge users to the point of making simply traveling somewhere very prohibitive. Note - be prepared for a full-road charge at any time. For example if you take a short jump on a toll road but their system misses one of your tolls you can be charged the max to the other end of the highway, some places it can be over $25. Also reminder overdraft and bounced debit charges can exponentially get out of hand on one of these charges.
Cons against E-Z pass go on and on but I'm going to stop here. Overall there is no sense of customer care or loyalty. E-Z Pass as an organization has repeatedly gone out of the way to Not do the right thing. I personally have the experience that they E-Z Pass comes off as a fully empowered monopoly that users either have to suffer through or do without. And in this case that would sometimes mean not to travel/not to see family even for the holidays.

Also I'm not understanding why NY bridge and tunnels don't honor the method of taken money off your E-Z Pass when you add funds. I'm recently a victim of tolls by mail. Never receive a bill and the only thing I received was a lawyers phone call saying I owe over 3000 on tolls that add up to 275. There has to be a way to create some type of civil action against E-Z Pass. Oh yea as of today I tried multiple times to add money. The app is down as well as the website. Also they're experiencing higher than normal calls and cannot take any new calls. What mockery is this?

It is a shame so many people have a difficult time when dealing with "tolls". What's even more amazing is the fact that after sooo many people complain and ask for a reform in respect to tolls -- nothing happens. E-Z Pass tolls by mail do not operate in good faith. We all have the same issue with them, Not being sent a bill to pay the toll on time but instead receiving a notice from DMV saying the registration is about to be suspended for un-paid tolls. Then E-Z Pass/Port authority, MTA B & T, etc wants us to pay the Toll+late fees+admin fees.
We need to go to our local representatives in Congress and demand they push to reform the unfair policy (laws) dealing with toll roads and the administrative nature of the Port Authority, E-Z Pass, etc & hold them accountable if they fail or neglect to follow through for allowing a person to create and sustain a business that puts a burden or hardship on the public/people. We will see no change in this reality if we don't unite under PEACE; The United STATES & the STATE where you're currently located Constitution; & Demand a reform of the toll system. I have only had an E-Z Pass for a couple months. We had to go to Queens to the airport and let me tell you the tolls apparently are over $50.00. Which is a lie! I went on my account and saw 3 tolls posted. Added up to maybe 15 or so dollars. I had over 30 dollars in my account. When I checked my checking account it stated they tried to take money out. Then I was charged $29.00 for NSF. I looked into my E-Z Pass account and it says I have $17.41 in my account so I called them and they stated the account was replenished.
That means $40.00 was used in tolls. I then received an email today stating I went below the replenishment threshold and unneeded to pay the recommended amount again. I looked in my account and I apparently have $7.00 and some change in the account. So this would mean nearly $50.00 was taken out of the account. Even more honestly. My account was and is still only showing I went through 3 tolls. They stated I went through 5. That my account had gone to $2.00 dollars. I was told it replenished $25.00 (which my account did not reflect this at all) I told customer service this and they said it had.
That would have given me $27.00 in my account. All of a sudden I got the email today and now it's saying I have $7.00 and some change left. This has been a scam and are stealing money from me. When you bring it up to their attention they will flat out lie to you. Tell you, you went through tolls that will not even reflect on your account. Again avoid this with all costs. I rather have the money in my hand and hand it to the toll booth than deal with this money greedy company!

This is an extremely POORLY RUN system. They knew they were taking the booths down well in advance so these kinks should have been ironed out well beforehand. So what happens now if I refuse to pay? I held the transponder up to the windshield when I first entered the express lane and again upon exiting. Since I had not used my E-ZPass in many years, I called the Express Lane customer service number and explained what I did. I have used E-Z Pass for quite a while and had always submitted funds when I received a warning light on the Mass Pike. I moved to NH and opened a new account. During the month of April, I traveled to Boston on the Pike, and then traveled back to Western Mass. There are no longer any warning flashes of low balances. I apparently had enough money on the transponder on the way out, but upon my return had a negative balance. I was invoiced, saw the envelope and added money to my account. Got a reminder notice, checked my account and there were no charges so figured the payment and the reminder had crossed.
Today received a bill for a late fee. Called EZ Pass NH and was told I had no outstanding charges. Explained the situation and was told to contact MA. MA said that there must have been a transponder issue and was told to call NH. NH Checked the account and found that the negative balance for the one way toll made my account to be "not in good order" and therefore only billable by invoice. The ability to add money to the transponder to pay the shortfall, stops at the state line. I chatted with the MA EZ Pass to ask them where I could find this information on their website and was told that they did not have that information.
I asked about filing an appeal and was told that the only type of appeal available was for mistaken charges, and this was not a mistaken charge. EZ Pass is not the integrated experience it appears to be. All jurisdiction falls within each state. The fact that I had to have multiple interactions between the two states before I could even figure out what the issue was was a bad experience.
I did find only one line on the website as a blanket statement that covers this whole scenario: "It's your responsibility to maintain a sufficient account balance to cover your toll usage." My issue with this is that in the past, if I had a low or negative balance while driving in Mass, I could just add money to the account. Nowhere does it state that this cannot be done across state lines. I also find the lack of an appeal process unsettling.

I explained that coming to the tolls from the right side of the Palisades Pkwy is only access to the upper GWB. He keep telling me lower GWB is lane 44. I said, "Thank you for your help" and we hung up. I called back and was told PACP Carpool is not available from 11PM to 5:59AM. I thought, okay if that is true then I guess there is no beef but why have 2 people working the booths and I never remembered seeing a restriction on the PACP. I looked further at E-ZPasses website and no mention of the "Blackout" time.
I called back and asked someone if there was a time where Carpool is not given and they said, "On the GWB there are certain lanes that are full service to get Carpool and between 11 and 5:59AM you need the upper level." I told her my story. Said it is not about the money. At this point it was more about the challenge of actually getting something done and right. She told me that lane 44 is lower level GWB and is a E-ZPass designated lane NOT full service. So, I pulled up my account and referenced the toll in question on lane 44 charged $10.50 instead of $6.50. {Again not about the money at this point. It started out being a quick 3 minute email for $4. Now it's much more than that and I never want to hear of this again but I check my statement now. And other people are probably being charged incorrectly. Question - if the board can say toll paid... why can it tell you the amount paid? Ah, so you don't know when they over charge you for peak, off peak, Carpool.}
Then I referenced a charge of $6.50 2 days later at the same Lane 44 and said... "Well if lane 44 is to the lower level and is a dedicated E-ZPass lane NOT full service (Cash, carpool, E-ZPass) then how was I charged $6.50?" I know what you are thinking... She said, "You're right. I correct that and charge you the $10.50!" Or right and... "I will credit you the $4." She said, "I can only tell you what the matrix I am looking at describes and it is not a full service lane." So, I said thanks and will review my statements and am moving on. Good luck to others.

Six months later I received a letter from their attorneys from Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP attorneys at law that I now owed over $30 for a summons that was paid. Also what a reliable agency trying to rip consumers. Bring back the toll collectors. Albany needs to get their act together and stop ripping us off with $50 administration fee. Add Henry Hudson to the rip off list too!!! This never happened before when they hear till collectors. All they do is threaten consumers with lawyers.

I am very frustrated with EZ pass. I drive a regular light duty pickup truck and tow a small 2 axle horse trailer that contains one horse. I travel often. It seems that whenever I cross the Outerbridge from NJ to Staten Island, I get charged $72. This has happened 3 of the last 4 times over a period of 9 weeks. The correct charge is $31.50 (Still outrageous). I call on a weekly basis to dispute the charge and I am told over and over again that they are working on it. I truly believe that nothing is happening. The last time I went through an EZ Pass/ Cash lane, my EZ Pass was charged and I pulled up and asked the toll collector what my toll is supposed to be. Her answer "I don't know!" I made copies of the registration to my truck and trailer along with all of my account info, I sent in a letter and I am hoping to someday be reimbursed, but as for now, I've just decided to leave my EZ Pass home.

I received a bill for $2700 in fines. $200 of that was actual tolls from my daily commute. When I went over the bridge one day and saw no toll booths I was confused like everyone else's. So I was told we all be billed by mail which I was months and months later with fines for every time I went over the bridge. I didn't do anything wrong. They never even send me a bill but straight to a attorney office and then they tell me not to talk to them. Their making money on my fines but yet E-Z Pass said they would settle with me at $1000.00. I already paid them $700 because I received a letter from motor vehicle saying they were suspending my registration which then would mean I'd have no insurance on my car.
I believe this is a huge scam and I went to my county legislator about this and they never heard of such a thing. Well I'm making sure everyone on Facebook and people know the scam they are pulling. Whenever you throw change in the basket that is not quarters, it rejects it so you have to pay more. As if paying $2.50 /$1.00 per car isn't enough average car has to pay $1.50/$3.00 due to the tolls not counting money correctly. It's part of the government so of course they are going to ** you for every penny you have.

I think this has to be the worst experience that I have ever had with customer service! I will never never use this E-Z Pass again. They charged me for a fee of 5$ letting me know that I had to be charged each way in addition to the fee of the toll because I didn't have a card on file. When I called to talk about it they said that I didn't have a card on file because they took it off because EVERYONE was getting new cards in the mail this year, with a chip... well NOT ME! I didn't have a new in the mail, the card I had then still works now without a chip in it so therefore the card would have worked fine.
Then they starting sending everything to the wrong apartment number and wondered why I didn't have any of the notices they were sending me. She then blamed me for it because I had to do it online so then I looked online and imagine what I found? The CORRECT address! They just never put the unit # on the mail. How would anyone expect to get mail if there is no unit number on there. Mistakes I get it. But then she tells me that because I had the E-Z Pass on my windshield that they charged me for all the times I paid cash because it was up there. I have never ever in my life been more disappointment with a company. Finally I decided to give her my card number so that she was able to pay off the stupid balance on the account. And I told her DO NOT READ MY CARD NUMBER BACK... what does she do? Talks over me and reads the card number out loud.
I've worked in customer service for years and we are always told "the customer is always right." Well I guess E-Z Pass is not that way. I said I would repeat it back to her so she knew she had the numbers right and she didn't want me to do that. I said it for a reason, I worked for a company and someone used to listen to numbers being read back and use the card numbers for their own things. So therefore I do not want anyone reading card numbers by chance someone else hears it and does this to me! I get that those calls are listen to on the regular. They all do in call centers. Two weeks later after my trip I received over $200 in fees from that trip. Apparently the funds came off but the reader still marked it as non payment. We called and paid the fines, and called E-Z pass. They informed us that something must be wrong with the transponder and they would send a new one. However we must call NJ and NY to get our money back. Months go by and I never receive the transponder and I'm still commuting to work from DE to MD everyday, going through 3 Tolls a day. One day I decided to look at my bank account and noticed that there weren't any payments going to E-Z Pass and I never received anything in the mail. I called E-Z Pass and they tell me I owe $23,000 for toll violations.
HOW THE HELL AM I GOING TO PAY THAT SIR??? Why would anyone with a sane mind go through an E-Z Pass daily for almost a year without paying?? Why would I purposely rack up $23,000 dollars in fines? As a business you should see something wrong with that and do everything you can to reach out to a consumer via phone call, or email, if they aren't being reached by mail to advise them that there is an issue. Don't just let someone rack up all those fines and you not do your part as a business to make sure the consumer is aware of the issue.
So now my registration is suspended and there isn't anyone who is trying to assist me with this matter. I tried getting a lawyer only for them to inform me, I needed to be pulled over first before they could do anything. E-Z Pass is just out here robbing people, and hiding behind the state to do it. They are protected and that's why they are allowed to do this to people. Therefore, I am being retro-actively billed for the activity. Said, "OK - HOWEVER, I would just like the detailed toll information (location, date, etc.) so that I can verify and confirm the $419.55 worth of tolls that you have added to the bill."
Their initial response was that if I looked online I could see all of the charges. I happened to be logged into my account when she said that so I asked where exactly on the site they list the adjustment info (because I wasn't seeing it) and then she changed her response and said that they actually can't provide that information to me because it was already billed in error to another customer and it would jeopardize that customer's privacy if they were to send me the tolls that MY vehicle incurred but was billed in error to someone else. I explained how that was contradictory because my toll information was obviously being shared with someone else because they were contesting the charges.
The representative could offer no solution and said there was no way they could provide any detailed info on the $419.55 worth of charges that have been added to the bill. I asked to speak to a supervisor - was told that I would be contacted by one in 48 hours. I asked for a reference # for the call - was told they do not issue reference #s for calls... Tolls By Mail / EZ-Pass SCAM: These entities intermingle or are disparate depending on how they can make more money. It's like the mob. There's no human to talk to. I keep accruing E-Z pass fines even though the Queens Midtown Tunnel switched over to Tolls By Mail. I took my badge down to avoid confusion but because my plate is associated with an EZ Pass account they charge me fines as though I am evading payment. I commute to the city every day. In June 2016, EZ Pass NY started to charge my acct for tolls made by a truck. First of all, I own a car, have ALWAYS use my transponder... since 1997, and the class of vehicle and charges were obviously for a truck. If anyone there really cared, which they don't, they would have stopped the madness with my first contact. Several phone calls, emails, online dispute claims, and I was ready to scream! Actually I did, but it did no good.
Evidently, Massachusetts, in its brilliance, has recycled plate numbers & assigned them to trucks! Really guys?!? Two different vehicles with the same plate number??? Did it never occur that this would cause a problem, especially since we were going to electronic tolling? Dumb **! So the problem persisted and my credit card was charged almost $400 in charges that were not mine. I tried to fix it by getting a MA EZ Pass & stopped using my NY EZ Pass transponder. Didn't work... the charges eventually were transferred. By coincidence, both the truck and my vehicle went through 2 different tolls at the same time. Didn't matter.
Finally I had no choice but to cancel my credit card and file fraud charges with my credit card company. I will gladly pay any tolls we used, but I am not allowing them access to any of my credit cards or bank info. No one wants to listen at EZ Pass NY. In fact, the customer rep from the first call was the only one who tried to help. She verified that the photo of the vehicle showing up under my "plate" was indeed a truck. Well, a month later, the E-Z Pass still hadn't arrived and I hadn't been reimbursed $20 for the transponder. I called customer service again and the person I spoke to was in fact helpful. She informed me that the last representative had canceled both accounts (the erroneous as well as the correct one) and that the reimbursement was not managed correctly by E-Z Pass which was why I never received $20.
After another month (December) I received the $20 reimbursement but still no E-Z Pass. I called customer service again. They told me that the E-Z Pass had never been sent out. Meanwhile I'd been accruing violations and received a couple notices from Pay By Plate, which is aggravating since I should have had an E-Z Pass 2 months prior. Eventually, I received that transponder around January. However, I'm still receiving Pay By Plate invoices (mail) as well as E-Z Pass bills (electronic)--therefore I'm being charged twice at the tolls plus late fees because I'm not paying them twice for their mistake.
Furthermore, the website is far from user friendly and is full of glitches and loops that equally mimic their entire customer service ethos of bang your head against the wall frustration until the problem appears different or the problematic customer becomes indifferent. I've entered my account number, transponder number, and all other required fields and still can't access my account. License plate reader problems lead to supposed toll violations: My transponder was 9 years old and started to fail. (They say they last around 10 yrs.) My account is linked to a card and I have e-billing and I check my account very infrequently. A lot of video tolls started showing up intermittently in December 2016 unbeknownst to me. Since E-ZPass uses computers to read license plates, it sometimes misread my plate.
My Virginia vanity plate is "**" with the letter OH. (Not really my plate but made up a word with an OH for this story.) The problem is the E-ZPass computer sometimes read it as a ZERO instead of an OH, as it is listed on my E-ZPass account. So when the computer looked up with a zero, it didn't find it linked to an account. So they then asked Virginia DMV who owned the plate. Since Virginia does not distinguish between a zero and an OH on their plates--they used the same character--they gave E-ZPass my address. And so began my three weeks of phone customer service hell.
Even after sending them my motor registration, as requested, to show that their computer was at fault, they still wanted to charge me the video toll rate. After a third call, they said they reviewed my letter explaining the problem, my vehicle registration, and the plates listed on my account and denied a correction. I asked for a simple explanation of why it was denied. Like a robot, she only repeated it was denied. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She said the supervisor only does callbacks and to expect a call in 24-48 hours. How stupid is this? I was ready to file a complaint with the consumer office of the State Atty General and the consumer advocate with the local Baltimore TV station.
On my travels, I was passing an E-ZPass administration building in Perryville, Maryland and stopped in to speak face-to-face with a rep. I hoped I could get an explanation. Within 10 minutes, she confirmed my transponder was on the fritz, reviewed my complaint, understood the problem, and her supervisor gave the approval to correct all the violations (have me pay the E-ZPass rate, not the higher cash or video toll rate). I left with a new transponder (cost $7.50) and relieved that this totally unnecessary nonsense was over.

Is the EZ Pass site intentionally set up to deflect and confuse??? I will do my best to avoid anything having to do with New Jersey and its ripoff toll system should I ever head east again.

Even after multiple suits in court (which they apparently lost), they haven't really stopped. I owe $1,100.00 for something like $12.50 in missed tolls. You try to pull the money together to settle it before it even goes to collection, but the administrative fees keep stacking up and when you are in a very tough spot financially already, it's nearly impossible to pay them on time. This all started when they switched my account replenishment status from "automatic" to "manual" after an issue with a replenishment transaction, but I never got a notification of the status change. By the time I realized it when checking my balance on my account just to make sure things were okay, I was already in the red and getting toll violation mail from them. I tried contacting them and making a toll dispute explaining the situation and requesting other options for payment but, from what I could tell, they just ignored me.
Now I have to take time from work to go to court and handle this with their "litigation specialists" (which they only allot you 30 minutes before your hearing to hammer out a deal). I work 60 hour weeks and I don't have time for their nonsense. I could have paid them if it were something like $25 to $50, but no, they have to bleed me dry even when I've got hardly anything to give them. I'm never using their service again, and they greatly overstate whatever value they do provide. I feel terribly for venting on the phone to their customer service rep, as it isn't her fault, but someone on their end needed to hear it. So, if she's reading this, I apologize to her, and ONLY to her. Transurban as a whole can just do the world a favor and completely restructure at the executive level, take ethics seriously, or just go away entirely.
Misc notes: It's not like I was intentionally being delinquent or irresponsible really. I had a near life-ending and permanently life-altering head injury several years ago and, unfortunately, that has yielded me the short term memory span roughly akin to that of a gold fish, among other issues. I hate pulling the TBI card, but it's a significant factor in my ability to function, and I'm doing my best over here. EZ Pass and Transurban just add to the stresses and frustrations of life where they shouldn't be. Whatever value-add they perceive their companies to provide is not at all worth the rise in blood pressure and they have to be, bar none, the worst infrastructure/toll outfits on the planet. I would rate 0 stars, but I have to admit the use of the lanes has been a convenience from time to time. Worth it? Absolutely not, but it is a slight convenience. Are their dealings through the company with local and state governments ethical? Not really.

Been using the system for approx. 3+ years and have gone from $25 a month to $50 recently. They are here to squeeze every possible penny from the consumer. I cannot plan to go to NYC or anywhere that uses a toll because they will be quick to raise the replenishment limit. I work every day and spend $1.50 in toll in total. How is it that I go to NYC one time and all of a sudden they start charging me $10 more for a Lincoln Tunnel difference of 12.50? I went to NYC 4 months later and in one trip spent $30 in tolls. That somehow averaged to a $25 difference in 3 months? How the heck does that make any sense? How does $30 difference in 3 months average to a $25 dollar increase? And right before Christmas? Yeah, sounds like somebody is trying to get an early Christmas gift.
This is ridiculous! The website sucks and is of low quality, customer service representatives are extremely rude and unprofessional. Always answer the phone and respond with an attitude and even though they say that "the system" will re-evaluate and adjust 3 months later, that is total bull. "The system" is quick to increase your rate but they will never decrease it. Never seen an decrease in the 3+ years that I have been with them. The total hierarchy of this system and this staff should be looked into. I would not be surprised if there is some sort of underground illegal things happening here.

I decided to look through my mail and found a letter from a law firm for EZ Pass violations. YES! I do know that I haven't paid. YES! I do know that I have under $300 worth of unpaid EZ Pass tolls. So I thought! Just got off the phone with the law firm. Apparently, my account has a $1200 something balance. I asked him how is that even possible?!? I told him that I knew for a fact I probably had a MAX of $300 worth of tolls. He explained to me that my actual toll balance was $210 and that it got so high due to fees. Are you freakin' kidding me?!? No, NY State has a law where it's a $25 fee per unpaid toll.
This whole EZ PASS BS has people right on their tippy toes! If you fail to pay after the law firm sends you their final notice, the DMV will suspend your registration. I asked him if there was anything he could do. And after checking, he said he can do a settlement of 50% off which came out to $700 and something. Well that's better than $1200. Payment plan? Yes! But it can't be towards the settlement! The settlement has to be paid upfront. Now how can a college student afford that upfront?!? So, now I'm STILL stuck with paying the $1200 in payments!! WHEN THEY TOLD US TO GET OFF the turnpike. We filled out the dispute paperwork, tried calling, they said they couldn't help us because we actually went through the booth, are you kidding me? Against my better judgement, I signed up for an EZPass. When I received my credit card statement, I had been charged three times for a transponder. After more than an hour on the phone with a CSR who seemed clueless and told me she didn't know if refunds were given and that I must have ordered three transponders - she couldn't explain, though, why EZ Pass sent me only one transponder. After being on hold for the third time, she returned and said a refund would be made.
This morning, I received a reply to an earlier email I had sent and the reply mentioned my conversation with the CSR and suggested I call again. Just got off the phone and the CSR said there was nothing on the record about a refund and that I should call back later. Oh, ya. In addition, there's a glitch in their website, since I discovered I was charged for two trips over the Tobin Bridge on a day when I did not leave the house. Would be nice if they could get things right.

I had one in my car for many years and one in a motorcycle for many years - total 2 for 2 vehicles that I own. When I called and tried to explain they insisted that I have 4 vehicles and 4 EZpasses. I tried to explain that I have only EVER had 2 passes. The response was "You can't expect us to just believe customers when they tell us they don't have these passes". Really? I tried to explain that I have only used 2 passes, because I only had 2 vehicles, and read them the numbers for what I had in my possession.
All I got was continuous RUDE arguments, even to the point that I was told "you're wrong. You have 4 passes and you have to send that one back". No matter how many ways I attempted to explain that I didn't have the pass they listed in the letter, and have had the same 2 passes for years, they continued to insist I had 4 and must return the one listed in the letter. I tried to explain that any other passes assigned to me were not mine and if they were in use it wasn't by me. The response was "if they are in use it's you!" These people are unbelievably rude and should in no way be serving the public. Instead of trying to be helpful they simply argue, and tell customers they are wrong. On 25 December, visiting my mother on the other side of Boston, I used the Ted Williams Tunnel. My EZ account was charged 3.50. Nearly 2 years later, I went to renew my registration and found out it was non renewable for an EZ Pass Violation. Dozens of calls, hour wait, disconnected with their phone system. Online Chat, automatically disconnected. Finally I reach a human, he explains that yes, my account was charged 3.50 on that day via my transponder but... because the plate wasn't connected to that vehicle (newer car), I was in violation. Never received any correspondence. Now, two years later, the 3 dollars became 90. 30 times the original toll. 30. That is a 3000% return on 3 dollars, now, since I paid the 3 to begin with as they stated, they move right past 3000% directly to extortion. If I do not pay, I cannot drive or own a vehicle in MA.
I saw an expose on a local TV station earlier this year. A single mother had 25 dollars turn into 2000 dollars. The Governor vowed to fix this broken system. What has Charlie Baker done? Nada. Zilch Zip. He has allowed these extortionists to continue to operate. The Mafia was placed out of business for less years ago. Perhaps there is a Hillary Clinton Clause in the law where money is funneled directly to the Clinton Foundation making it perfectly legal for them to charge any amount they desire. MA EZ Pass sucks, plain and simple. The people running this are as crooked as the Clintons themselves and use strong-arm tactics to take money from taxpayers. As we all know, Massachusetts has zero shame when it comes to taking money, tolls, taxes from citizens, otherwise, I could simply say shame on you MA DOT. First of all they have the worst associates sitting in that office. Better off with an automated system that would be glad to help you more than these ladies sitting there. Never look at you when you are talking to them, pretending they are the busiest and we have nothing better to do. I told them I was interested in opening an account and they showed least bit of concern for a new customer. When I went to return the transponder and close account, they showed me charges that were not supposed to be there. I asked them why those charges are on my account and the lady kept saying "you went through a toll booth and it scanned it. Talk to the dispute if want money back". Another associate began asking me questions, which seemed like she wanted to try to help but this lady who was helping me interrupted and said "let her talk to the dispute".
When I said I had paid at the toll booth with cash not knowing that it scanned my transponder she kept saying "that's not my problem." She already admitted that the dispute is not going to solve my issue. I wasn't a fan of EZ Pass before, I bought it reluctantly and now I am damn sure of why typical method of paying using cash is better than the hi-tech automated methods where most of the time is spent on arguing or following up with these people.
These ladies in the office seemed least concerned that somebody was having issues with their product and did not want to be in that office working - but definitely get paid. At least that's the impression I received. I placed a complaint with the customer service, hope they would do something about it but I am definitely going to keep following up. I registered for EZ Pass as a NJ resident. This past labor day weekend, 2 out of 7 EZ Pass tolls displayed "unpaid." Yesterday morning, I called a customer service number to check. The phone options were too long and confusing so, I visited website for "faster 24 hr service". After many attempts with passwords, usernames, account numbers, car tag, device number, and encrypted security numbers options, I finally logged-on to the site (really, a Logon call to action?). I must say, the EZ Pass site/system is uncanny; a total vintage version of sites developed in the late 90s. The site doesn't look trustworthy and the fact that it has features/functions of early web commerce scares me. It is scary that my credit card is associated with such a cumbersome outdated system that doesn't even function on mobile devices.
Anyway, my account showed a '0' balance on a spreadsheet table. The content on it was a bit confusing to decipher and I was unsure where my true balance was at first glance. To be sure I didn't owe anything, I clicked "violations". After typing another set of redundant criteria, never mind that I was logged-in to my account, an error message appeared above the criteria panel "Please enter violation number". I assumed that I owed nothing but I was still restless about it. Later, I chatted with a coworker about my experience. She warn me to double check. She said that she had trouble with EZ Pass charges in the past. She showed me that there are two EZ Pass sites, one for NY and NJ state and that I should check the NY site.
I logged in to the EZ Pass NY and to my surprise, after typing another set of redundant criteria, I found outstanding bills dating back to 2013 and 2015. The toll charges were 92.25 total but the unidentified between 30 to 50 dollar "fees" brought my full total to 595.25. Called NY EZ Pass customer service immediately, and after being on hold for 20 min, the operator informs me that my account balance was at ZERO. She told me that I owed nothing and that everything was fine. Why is a system not showcasing the same thing I was seeing on my monitor to the customer service operator? I insisted, she told me that if there were any outstanding bills they were sent to a collection agency. I asked for the collections agency number.
Well, the number she gave me routed me to NJ EZ Pass Customer Service Center. At this point I'm totally confused. Why is my EZ Pass account number not able to pull my payment history regardless what state I travel to and from? After speaking to the NJ customer operator, I was told that the systems between NY and NJ are independent and they DO NOT communicate with each other. The only thing they share are the tag number and the payment cards associated with the devices. He offers an apology for having recurring problems with the toll system during labor day weekend but then he lectured me about paying more attention the my mail for bill and violations. The point of having an EZ Pass was to have toll amounts deducted from my card. Apparently, I am the problem and so is every person with similar complaints on this site. I finally got a collection agency number from this operator.
Called the collections agency number but the operator said there was nothing associated with my account. She told that I had to call the the NY EZ Pass again because they were likely using a different collection agency. Dialed again the same number I started with. Waited 15 min to speak with someone. The end result, I was given the NJ EZ Pass Customer Service Center. Seriously, this is not right. This experience continues to be awful. It is truly sad that other countries I've traveled to, in Europe and Asia, have flawless toll systems that include devices with small LEDs telling you how much you're charged every time you pass a toll, at high speeds. Shame on EZ Pass for making no effort with the other high standards that countries with less have. Tried calling again today and I'm still at a lost.

I don't even have an account and it's hard for me to avoid receiving letters in the mail saying I owe them for missing a toll, and along with every violation comes a $50 administrative fee (upgraded from the $25 it was last year). In my case, the tolls I have been "missing" have been for the same toll booth, called the Route 50 toll plaza (I'm pretty sure this is the booth you encounter when getting on the AC expressway from route 50). I have been informed this booth is now EZ Pass only, meaning if you don't have an EZ Pass account, you cannot travel on this road. Besides how Orwellian the idea of a company/government-company (?) exclusively owning roads is, their way of announcing is quite non-existent. I can't recall many details about the booth itself, and frankly I'm afraid to even go near it again, but I'm pretty sure I remember it having these features:
- Does not have a sign stating it is EZ Pass only.
- Does not have a way to turn around once turned onto the road.
I'm going to do some more research to see if these facts are true. Oh and this EZ Pass-only road I am talking about is not the only one. There's more! I read there were about 10 recently installed in NJ and others are being added in other states too. In an interview, PA Turnpike spokesperson was asked about these EZ Pass-only roads. Capone said it’s expected that, when a new E-Z Pass-only interchange opens, people will go through it without one. But, he said, violations are expected to level off “as people figure it out.” AS PEOPLE FIGURE IT OUT? Okay. So I owe about $100 for the second time now, but I think this time I've got it figured out. I just won't ever drive anywhere again to avoid this from happening. Because I am also stubborn and don't want to get an EZ Pass although it would probably end most of my problems with them. They treat their account holders with a lot more respect.
What I'm hoping to get out of this is for EVERYONE TO GET RID OF YOUR EZ PASS. THROW IT OUT. IT'S NO GOOD. IT'S BROKEN NOW. If you have any information you could share with me, to help me with my situation or to inform me further of this companies ridiculousness please do at **. I do not really know what I am going to do with the recent fines I've received but they have caused me to care about stopping the corruption of them.

Then the advertisement started ALL over again and would not allow me to be connected to a representative. I hung up and called the administrative number who asked me what I needed. When I said "billing" she said she'd "transfer me to the right department" but all she did was transfer me to the main number forcing me to listen to 10 prompts I didn't need. I can't believe its legal to force someone to listen to an advertisement when calling your business. The customer service rep said she didn't "know anything about it".
The reason I called is because I went into an EZ Pass office about a month ago to switch my transponder on to my credit card since my father has purchased it for me under his account but of course wanted me to be responsible for the charges. "No problem" they say and switched it. Fast forward a month I get a bill for 3x the normal amount and realize they have put both my parents transponders on to my credit card as well. So I call the customer service line and they say, "Oh different transponders under the same account can't be under different credit cards, its policy. You have to go get a new EZ Pass pass and open a new account, its policy."
Uhh but I just paid $20 for this transponder, now I have to go pay $20 for another which makes no sense and is meant to garner more money. Let alone the fact when I bought the transponder and put it on my card a month ago, the customer service rep didn't explain properly the fact that all 3 transponders would be charged to my card and that you can't separate the charges, and if I wanted to separate the charges I needed to open a new account. Every time I said something to her or had a request she said "it's policy" and wouldn't budge. "Its policy" and "well its our policy". Well its a bad policy, robbery, and purposely vague customer service. Turning into the new Time Warner... When you have a monopoly do whatever you want when you want however you want.

When I had to travel south, they did not advise me that there might be a problem because I kept seeing a green light. Upon coming back home, I received a fee from every state I passed through. I was able to take care of all of those fees by making a phone call or going online, except Massachusetts.
With MA, I received two $50 fees. I tried calling and taking care of it but I was told that I need to send in written correspondence before the fee due date. Since it was an automated service, when I received paper bills/documents in the mail, I disregarded and did not even open them. I figured that the same information was included in the paper billing as the online charges. Once I began receiving notifications in the mail that displayed red on the envelopes, I started to pay attention. However, at that time, I was dealing with a lot of things personally, with my family, and on the job. My first plan was to pay the bill online, but that website is extremely confusing and not user-friendly.
When I tried to log on, I did not have the correct login information and even after repeated attempts to do so, I was unsuccessful. Next, I tried calling them, but I was always placed on hold for extremely long periods of time or their office was not open when I was available to call. My final plan was to wait a month and a half until the summer when I had more opportunities to try to figure out how to navigate through the online system to pay the bills.
Fast forward to two weeks ago when I received a car registration suspension notice in the mail stating it was because my EZ Pass violations were not paid. When I went to the Gaithersburg MVA to pay, they stated that I owed over $10,000. If all of my actual fines were totalled, I would owe no more than $600 a year @ $2.00 a day/once a day and 5 days a week, but EZ Pass tacked on $50 for each unpaid fee and labeled each as a violation. So why was such an exorbitant amount assessed?

They will turn you over to a collections agent without even trying to contact you and then charge all sorts of administrative fees. And you will have no recourse. Just understand you will pay a heavy price for convenience - suggest you pay the old fashioned way.

I have a NJ EZ Pass and have received 4 violations in NY. When I accessed my NJ EZ Pass account I don't see the NY violations so thought I didn't have any violations. After a few months I get a collection notice. The notice gives no explanation and no way to pay the violation with my EZ Pass. Their phone system is horrid with very long wait times and only limited hours. How are people who work during the day supposed to contact them if there are long wait times and no one there after hours? I finally got through to someone and was told to write a HANDWRITTEN letter to them. Who writes hand letters these days? Should I use a feather and a ink also?

I use my EZ Pass for a tractor trailer, or used to. I gave them money upfront to prepay tolls. They set my replenish amount at $75.00, that jumped to $160.00 and from there to $795.00 with no notification whatsoever. They did this even though my account did not got into negative because I was on auto replenishment. I took off auto replenishment because they seem to replenish at will and I was not getting hit for another $800.00 without warning. Soon as I did this they raised my threshold from $140 to $340. Again with no notification at all. Customer service was rude and told me there is nothing they can do. These people are horrible and out to keep as much of your money as possible.

It first started when I read about the new intercounty connector 200. I thought about how much time it will save me to get to work. So I decided to go to Giant on January and purchased 2 E-Z Pass for my 2 vehicle, one was under my girls friend name and mine with my name, both vehicles using my check card. January 20, 2012 I was billed my first E-Z Pass Rebill $25.00.
Nice wow is working, am using the ICC 200 and am saving about 15 mins to get to work but is all worth it. Jan 30, 2012 another Rebill of $25.00. Ok sounds good since me and my girlfriend are using the ICC 200. Feb. 3, 2012 E-Z Pass check card purchase of $24.65. Feb. 3 Recur Debit Payment Rebill of $25.00. Feb 6, 2012 another $25.00. Ok no problem is a reload so they just put money in it. And so on 2/16 $25.00 2/21 $60.00 and so on with my bank statements showing every payment every month: Recur Debit Crd Pmtdate E-Z Pass MD Rebill 888-3216824 MD, my CC number and transaction number.
Let me fast forward to March 2, 2015. I renew my tags. No warning, nothing so I renew my tags. March 16, 2015 while I was to renew my license one day after my license expired I decided to get a third transponder for a vehicle I was leasing thru my job. I went to the E-Z Pass counter and the lady charged me $9.00 for a new transponder. I said “Ok thank you but no!” She said “Wait a minute.” So I proceeded to stand there and wait for about 30 mins while my number to renew my license has been called. I said “What is going on?” She responded and said I owe $102.00. I said “Ok I don't know how that can be when I always get Rebill from E-Z Pass but ok is my birthday week and ok let's pay it off and move on.” I paid.
Another 25 mins passed by I was standing there again and asked her what's the problem now? She said “You owe 28.” I said “Ok ma’am I have to go that's fine, charge me the 28 dollars so I can be on my way." She said “No sir, you owe $28,000 dollars.” I asked her again in disbelief how much and she repeated the same $28,000. I asked why she thought I owe that much. She told me it was because my check card did not have insufficient funds, so I asked her how can that be when I was getting Rebill all along. She says, “You have not paid anything since 2012.” How is that possible? She then said “Well you can't not have 2 accounts using the same check card.” So then she said one car (my girlfriends car was getting paid the whole time but not mine). I said “Ok something is wrong here” and I left and told her I will contact E-Z Pass when I get to work.
I renew my license and went to work 3 hours later. Got to work made the call and I was told that I never paid anything (even though the transponder came with 25.00 reload when you purchase it) and that they don't see any of my cars that I had register since 2012 have not been paying anything that they don't see anything. They show I have paid $0.00. Nothing. How is this possible the lady continue to say sir you owe this amount ($28,000) and there's nothing they can do they don't show anything. I continue to ask where did all the money E-Z Pass was Rebill and shows in my bank statement go to? Response was they have not received anything from me. Maybe I did not go thru because no funds which I reply that's impossible because I have overdraft protection and which he stated maybe my card had expire in which I told him no that was not the case.
I asked to speak to the manager who said they don't show anything and how will I take care of the $ 28,000? $3,000 is what I owe and since I haven't paid anything the rest in fines. They told me to email my bank statement to the head personal in charge which I email my bank statement highlighted with them Rebill every month. She got back to me and said I should of know I owe because they had sent me letters stating I did. I was told to go online and request a hearing with my violations. I called.
The lady on the phone walk me thru it and I'm still waiting on my case hearing but nothing. All the money I have paid they said I haven't paid a dime for any of my cars. It was hard to find and hire a lawyer because no one knew how to handle this situation. I hired one but I have not spoken to him since paying him a year ago just telling me is a tough job and does not know how to handle it. But he advise me since I had use the 3rd car before all of this with my other transponder to pay off anything I owe on that vehicle.
I called E-Z Pass once again on 3/27/15 spoke to a lady about my 3rd vehicle and asked her how much did I owe on my third vehicle which I already knew about the other 2 and I have my lawyer working on those but was advise to pay for the new vehicle. She said I only owe $121.20. I asked again to repeated to me, this time I had her on speaker and she again responded annoyed stating that I did not owe nothing more on my third vehicle to pay this amount and it will over for this car. I asked for a confirmation number which I took a picture of it since I did not want to lose that.
Fast forward 3 months later. Received a letter stating that I owe $1,000 something for my third vehicle so I called and spoke to a service rep who stated I did not pay anything that at the time I called I owed this same amount and that I had not paid anything. I stated I had a confirmation number and that “Please go back to your phone recording and you will hear the conversation.” I asked for a manager who called me a day later stating that I did not paid anything (even though it shows in my bank statement) and that I owe the $1,000 something, forgot the exact amount and told him “Please I have a confirmation number.” He proceeded to say that is not needed and to contact my lawyer and hung up on me.
Fast forward to now. I have kids and am on child support work hard for me and my kids and now they suspended both of my vehicle tags and my girlfriends vehicle in her case she was told she owes also money because also she was not paying anything even though that was one of the excuse was I was paying for her car not mine. I have all the bank statement proof and they still cannot answer where did all the money I was paying went. Was told I was paying for one car not the other, that my check card expired, that you cannot use one check card for 2 accounts, that my check card did not have funds and that I did not register it online.
They send me to MD collections. Fox News contacted me to do a story but it was too late when I saw the email from Fox News, it was a day late. I need help here in Maryland getting bullied by a big company. By the way last time I used the ICC was in Middle of March 2015. Last I got rebill from them again on was 5/22/15 for $35.00.

I tried to close my Massachusetts EZ Pass account after I noticed repeated charges on my account that were invalid such as $5.00 fees for when the transponder didn't read correctly. They also make it very difficult to pay any other way other than automatic debit because that way they can more easily charge you excess fees that you won't notice. I found out I could not cancel my account because I had a violation. I never received the violation but they said I could no longer appeal it because it was past the appeal time. They said they could "help" me write a letter to reduce the fine from 90 to 40 but I would need to add money to my EZ Pass account first. The account I was trying to close!
I paid the 90 instead of updating my account because updating my account would just allow them to continue to overcharge me. The EZ Pass program in Massachusetts is a racket and I would rather wait to pay cash for hours than continue to do business with crooks who charge unreasonable fees for every possible thing they can think of.

I closed my EZ pass account and mailed my EZ pass tag back to their Staten Island office mid-February. During its transit, either on the way to the Staten Island office or after being received by the Staten Island office it was charged a toll for crossing the George Washington Bridge. Yesterday, early May, I received my final statement from EZ pass with the toll charge and my tag refund (less the toll charge). When I called them to report the fraudulent toll charge, they said they will refund it to me, and after several rounds of questions they admitted this was their fault - that the toll happened during the EZ pass transit (via mail) back to their office. Had I not called in to request the refund the $10 charge would have stood. The company should take better precautions to fix these mistaken charges without my involvement, and be more upfront about them.

Going to keep this short. I got EZ Pass back in 2011. They had come put with the EZ Pass that is screwed onto the front of your license plate. I got into a minor car accident, someone backed into the front of my car and broke the EZ Pass. Not enough for me to even know that it wasn't working anymore. At this time, I was going back and forth over a $5 toll bridge quite frequently (11/21/11 - 12/14/11). Apparently, it was unable to read my tag because of the damage. I wasn't living at home so I didn't realize it wasn't charging my account.
I received a bill of $85 of unpaid tolls + $425 in fees= $510. They would not wave the fees even though I had an account at the time. Granted, I did not pay give attention to this issue immediately. But, I was willing 100% to pay the unpaid tolls. I couldn't afford the $510 so I never paid it. I now spend $120 a month in tolls that I have to pay cash because they will not work out the issue with me. So now it has gone to collections and EZ Pass said there is no way to clear this up unless I pay the $510. Ridiculous.

I recently spoke with a customer service rep at Pennsylvania EZ Pass. I learned that I have an original transponder from 2004, which has been replaced in recent years. The CSR explained that they would send me the new transponder with the aluminum foil sleeve, pre-paid return label and reuse the same envelope received with the new transponder. Basically, the old transponder must be returned within 21 days. Sounds fair.
I received the package with the new transponder, foil sleeve, envelope, but no pre-paid label. It turns out that I spoke to a new CSR at PA EZ Pass this morning. They require the customer to pay the return postage even though the customer isn't the party that decided to retire the old transponder model. How convenient? PA EZ Pass charges annual fees just because, raises tolls every year and now upcharge you to replace an old transponder that they retired. Wow! Better yet, the CSR said that "We paid for the shipping for the new transponder. We ask that you pay the return shipping for the old transponder." So, not only does PA EZ Pass save money by farming out the return shipping to customers, the customer is indebted to EZ Pass for paying shipping one way. I wish I never called these crooks. Good job, Sleazy Pass!

As you probably aware most E-ZPass customers do not have good visibility into their toll account as: It is a chore to log in. When customers finally logged in, they find statements that are complex to understand and difficult to reconcile. Toll discount rules vary among toll agencies, as each of the 37 agencies using the E-ZPass technology, operates independently. For business customers who apply their toll spending to their tax deduction or T&E reimbursement the above translate to either spending valuable time doing shallow work (i.e., figuring out toll records) or giving up altogether.
Given that last year toll revenues in E-ZPass 3 biggest toll agencies combined reached close to $5 billion. Unclaimed annual toll expenses/discounts/errors can easily add up. The TollWiz app puts toll road customers back in the driver's seat! It innovates because it is first to market with a driver-centric focus and not an individual agency-centric. Available as an App on Android and iOS phones, it is hassle free. Since it is not restricted to any individual toll agency: It looks for toll discount opportunities that are applicable to the customer across all applicable toll agencies. Customers can easily check their toll account in any one of the 12 states currently supported, timely detect and address costly errors.
Business customers can easily track their mileage as well, and send their driving expenses: tolls and mileage, directly to their Travel and Expense (T&E) account (e.g., Concur, Expensify, Certify). With TollWiz, toll agencies gain as well since customers are back in the driver’s seat, having to rely less on the toll agency for every inquiry and catching issues early before they become a headache for both: the customer and the agency.

I moved three years ago. During that time, I updated EZ Pass with my new address and received bills and notices to my current location. In December and January of last year, I apparently acquired 5 violations due to a change in my debit card. The violations were not sent to my house but rather the old address on file. The unopened letters were returned to EZ Pass, all which was noted and documented by EZ Pass. Never were these violations sent to my current address and I never received a phone call regarding the matter. I was actually told that the company does not make phone calls because they have too many customers.
After speaking with a representative when I finally learned of these violations (months later due to a collection notice from a 3rd party), I was told to send a letter of dispute to the violations center with the information provided above and a check for the tolls, which I promptly did. A few weeks later, after my check was cashed, I received a notice from EZ Pass to my current location, as a final notice prior to collections. I immediately called them (the violations department of EZ Pass) and was told by a supervisor that my letter was received and one of the violations was taken off for a courtesy. I explained that I felt as if I was not responsible for any of the "administration" fees that I was being charged due to the circumstances detailed above, which were recorded and reviewed by said supervisor.
His response was to send the letter again. He said that I might get a nicer person next time who will accept my dispute. I refused to send a second letter, asking to be transferred to one of the people who were responsible for disputes instead. He informed me that the only way to contact that department was through mail and they did not converse over the phone.
I am appalled at EZ Pass's policies and "bedside" manner. To have to send a second letter, hoping to have a nicer person read it next time is ridiculous. To not be able to talk to someone on the phone for that personal interaction is ridiculous. For the company to not make phone calls about violations that are not reaching the responsible party is ridiculous. To say that you have too many customers to be able to reach out to them is ridiculous. This seems like an amateur move to me and a company that basically has a monopoly on tolls in New Jersey should have enough employees to be able to handle their affairs in a personal and responsible manner.

E-ZPass Maryland has the absolute WORST customer service of ANY company I have ever dealt with, dating back to when I was a baby. The wait time to talk to someone on the phone is well over 20 minutes. They consistently mess up account information. If the internet existed in 1980 and the first prototype website had been developed, it would have been better and more user friendly than the E-ZPass website used today. I believe they had their website created for free by the local community college first year IT students. Unfortunately the students failed the course yet E-ZPass still decided to use the website that they created for their final project.
The only thing E-ZPass is consistently good at is employing mean, sassy women to man the phone lines. When someone finally does pick up, they are sure to be an angry woman who hates her job and anyone calling in with a legitimate question. There needs to be a competitive market established for this service in order to increase quality, even if it decreases E-ZPass' short term profits. I highly recommend bypassing the EZ Pass system and continuing to pay tolls the old fashioned way. It is way more efficient in regards to your time.

Long story short we paid over 300 dollars in fees from that mistake. To make things worse, once we settle that debt, my husband forgot to take the EZ Pass tag out of the car and even though we were paying the tolls cash we had to pay them again once we got the violations.
I was reluctant to get the EZ Pass again but then gave in since the lines and the savings in the tolls are pretty good, and decided to get it again. BIG MISTAKE! We bought it in the toll. They did not tell us to register and we forgot to do it. The result is 3 tolls that we went by and did not pay. We would now have to pay $150 extra in fees. Called EZ Pass to see if they could take away even one of the fees but it seems like the representatives can not do anything and she told me to send a letter but she didn't sound too positive about the port authority taking the fees away. They say I owed them $154 for two or three ICC Toll transactions that occurred in April - when I already had my transponder. All transactions should have been covered by the transponder, since I had loaded and reloaded several times. I had previously paid all receipts AND had called in July to ensure that nothing was against my account. I asked the customer service rep (On September 1st) to do a ONE TIME load of $75 onto my account. They did. For some reason unknown to me, on September 7th, they decided to do another reload of $110.
I thought that I had made it very clear on Sept. 1st, that I absolutely did NOT want my card saved to the account. Neither did I want my account automatically reloaded. I specifically said that. Today, they are going to "try" to refund me all but $25 of it. I need it all back, as it is their mistake and my transponder should not have been in the red at any point between the 1st and the 7th.

My business has been having problems with NH EZ pass for months now. One of our vehicles is a 2 axle box truck with 4 tires total, the other two vehicles is a SUV and a standard size pick-up truck. We used to have one transponder for all 3 vehicles which is the way that EZ pass set up the account. Several months ago, I noticed that sometimes when we went through the tolls with the box truck we were being charged as a class 5 ($1.70) rather than a class 1 ($0.70) BUT it did not happen all of the time. It was so strange, we would get charged as a class 1 while going through the tolls on the way to a job and then a class 5 on the way home.
At first, when I called to get the credits, they did it without question, saying that sometimes if there was another vehicle close behind us when we went through the tolls, EZ pass would think we were towing something and accidentally overcharge us. After a couple of months, they started to realize that something was wrong. I was told that there was something wrong with my transponder and that I needed to go into an EZ Pass office to have the transponder reprogrammed. Luckily I have an EZ Pass office not far from my office so I went there.
The ladies in the EZ Pass office in Hooksett NH are great and super friendly unlike the customer service people on the phone. They told me that there was nothing wrong with my transponder and that it is an issue with the actual tolls. So they applied the credits for my overcharges and put in a service request to have a monthly review of my account so that I would not have to keep calling in each month to request a credit for overcharges.
The following month when I received my statement, there were the overcharges again and no credits. So I called EZ pass again and was told that they do not do monthly reviews of accounts but that they would put in a service request for credits for all the new overcharges. A few days later, I received a call from the EZ pass office that I had gone into and was told that the corporate office had contacted them so they could call me and let me know that I needed a transponder to be used just for the box truck and that this should resolve my issue.
So the next day, I went into the office again and purchased a second transponder, this was about a month ago. Yesterday, I received my statement for last month. It did not show any of the credits I should have and what do you know, there was still a couple of times that I was being overcharged. I called EZ pass again and am now being told that it is a weight issue. I told her that my vehicle is over 7000 lbs but under 10000 lbs with 2 axles and 4 wheels which according to their info is a class 1 and it would almost make sense if I was always being overcharged but I am not.
I told her that before we had EZ pass and we just paid the tolls with cash, we were always charged as a class 1, never 5 and that we signed up for EZ pass to save time and money but that now I was thinking I may cancel the account and she said I could do that if I wanted, not really caring they may lose a customer. Also, the weight issue had never been brought up before. I had always been told it was a transponder issue. The lady I spoke to, like all the others was very rude and had no need to be. I never raised my voice and remained calm the whole time even though I wanted to scream at her. She said it was a transponder issue before but now it's a weight issue. So she said that they would need to confirm with DOT to see which class we should really be and they would get back to me.
I have my account set up so that I replenish the account myself when the balance gets below a certain level. When we signed up for the account, it was set to $20.00 being considered a low balance (and also the minimum I can add at one time) and I would get an e-mail stating my balance was low. Now they changed it to $80.00 without asking me! I can understand them raising it a little bit if I now have two transponders but that is crazy. I asked about the credits they owe me and would I see them on my next statement. She said that also would be pending the response from DOT and it may take a while. I am so angry right now!

I was coming home from a trip @ Howe's Cavern on August 9th. It went through an EZ Pass/Cash Lane @ Woodbury toll was bumper to bumper. I got my turn and paid in cash. I did not receive a receipt. I received a letter on August 26 stating I did went through an EZ Pass lane and did not pay the toll. I cannot believe I received this violation as I have paid the toll in question. I received this violation 17 days later and do not have enough time to fight this violation. This ticket is due September 8th.
I feel very angry as I cannot defend myself adequately as I have no proof I paid the toll. Even if I did get a receipt which I did not, I would have thrown it out. I've used EZ Pass before and never had a problem until now. I have heard similar stories about EZ Pass sending false violation notices. I plan on faxing them the violation notice I filled out and also mailing it. I am doing this but with little hope the violation will get dismissed. Getting ripped off is not a nice thing to go through. I hope others find this review helpful and can chime in on your thoughts. God bless and peace out!

My vehicle went through the Baltimore tunnel with EZ Pass N.J. and it recorded the pass and picture. Maryland said there was no money on my N.J. e-z pass but I have auto withdrawal from my checking with overdraft protection on my account. N.J. e-z pass has no transaction of the toll but e-z pass Maryland wants me to pay both the fine of $50 and the $6 toll. Both e-z pass automated machine and the people that work, they will NOT LISTEN to anything I have to say. I asked at least 10 times to speak to their manager in Maryland. That person was didn't want to hear anything either but she slip and told me I didn't take care of the with the first notice so I need to pay the fine and the toll. I told her the truth, this is my first notice, so I only need to pay the $6 toll. I wish they would hire competent employees. 1 hr later on the phone the manager took my credit card and paid the $6 toll.
