Received an email from E-Z Pass notifying me that I need to bring my transponder to their walk-in center to have the battery checked because of changes they are making on Sept. 1. Received 2nd notice 15 days later. Went to the walk-in center today. It is a construction type trailer office. I have a walking disability that makes stairs very difficult. There was a line of people that went from the office, down the stairs and into the parking lot. I tried calling customer service and the hold time was 15 minutes. I sent an email and received a confirmation notifying me that I would hear back from them in 10 business days! E-Z Pass created this situation but did nothing to prepare for it. This is customer service at its worst. Problem is I have no alternative, E-Z Pass is the only show in town. They gave less than 30 days notice to thousands of customers and we're not prepared for the result. Right now I have no idea what I can do.

I DO NOT have EZ Pass. So I must stop and pay the $0.50 tolls, which I do. I get a receipt each time for a reimbursement from the Veterans Administration. Twice I received notices from EZ Pass that I drove through without paying. LIE #1. The photos show me VISIBLY stopped. I responded with the same response for both SUPPOSED infractions. One was dismissed and the other they want $50. I sent a check to pay another $0.50 which was cashed. My lawyer said once a check is cashed they have accepted payment. Again I received a notice. EZ Pass will revoke my registration. I am a disabled Veteran. I don't have $50 to pay for another $0.50 toll which to date have paid twice. Will the Attorney General PLEASE look into EZ Pass. They are raping Americans.

I love the concept of an EZ Pass program, but the way they refill your account makes absolutely no sense and is sure to break anyone with a budget. When you sign up, you pick an amount you would like to deposit in your account. From there, you absolutely have no control how much money they decide to take out of your account. They don't even charge you based on the actual usage. If you happen to use toll roads and bridges more often, they start charging you more without any notification at all. If you notice you use tolls more often, you better keep a close eye on your bank account or you might get hit with a surprise.
I used to use my EZ Pass every now and then, mostly for leisure. I started a new job and they went from charging $25 to $180 every three weeks without any warning. I had credit of over $300 in my account, and they would still debit my account $180 every three weeks! It was absolutely ridiculous! And once I stopped using it that frequently, they kept charging me until I took the time to call and complain. So basically if you use EZ Pass because you have less time to wait around tolls, you might have to find some extra time to deal with their customer service every now and then! I opted out of EZ Pass because of this, and even if I spend more money and time using cash, it's just less of a headache than trying to guess how much money they will take out of my account.

I owed E-ZPass 98 cents which fell into delinquent status because the credit card I had on file with them changed and I forgot to update them (compounded by also forgetting to update my email address with them, although they DID have my cell phone number and never called it). Today, 90 days after falling delinquent and less than 30 days since they last tried contacting me (only by email) I phoned them and learned that (a) my account had been closed, (b) I owe them $51.98 if I want to be able to re-open an account and (c) they can't simply turn on my device, I have to mail that one back to them and get a new one. Mind you, $51 of the $51.98 are penalties associated with the delinquent account being revoked!
Attempting to receive some level of customer consideration - I'd been a customer for years without issue or complaint - I was told by a customer service rep and an equally curt and unhelpful supervisor that no relief was due me and that I could either pay the $51.98 and mail my old device or I'd no longer be a customer. I'm left believing that E-ZPass absolutely doesn't care about having me as a customer. E-ZPass certainly doesn't care how abused I feel for my terrible "crime" of forgetting to update my credit card info and being delinquent on a 98 debt. And E-ZPass, an owner of a monopoly service for toll booth convenience, seems to have taken business cues from so many usurious lenders...I think loan sharks may be the only in the land who charge more outrageous fees (considering my fees tally in excess of 350% of my actual service debt).

Every time I go over the George Washington Bridge, $25.00 comes out of my checking account. I happened to go over the George Washington Bridge three times in one day to pick up and leave off family, and I was charged $75.00 in one day. When one is watching their expenses, this action causes overdrafts. If $25.00 is taken out when the toll is less than that, there should be a balance left over from previous charges of $25.00. The way it is set up, this system is ruinous to one's checking account. I spoke to customer service about this in the past, but it still happens. It should just charge what you just used to go through a toll, not $25.00 each time.

I signed up for EZ Pass last April, after having to use the Maryland ICC and ending up with a ticket because I didn't pay the toll (no toll booths). I hardly ever go through the toll roads so I didn't think it was necessary before that. So imagine my surprise when I end up with three tickets totaling $168.00. According to a customer representative I had signed up for a commuter plan, of which I have no recollection, and so I was charged for the unused trip (around $68.00) which made my barely used account negative, and therefore, when I did go through the toll I got ticketed. So, add that to the $168.00. She said it was my fault, but they would try to get the state to refund it, but I would be removed from the commuter plan. But I got stuck with the ticket. This occurred in March.
Fast-forward to now, and they made the same charge to my account, which I found out getting another ticket from Delaware in June. I call and they tell me that this commuter plan is still in effect, and it is my fault that it was not changed. There is no indication of this status on the statements, or in the sign-up confirmation email, BTW. And, they will not review it for a refund unless I pay the negative balance of $51.00. I should mention that the Delaware ticket is $29.00. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
If you count the $18.00 x2 I paid for the transponders, this EZ PASS thing was THE WORST PLAN EVER!!! I could have gone 10 years and not paid that much in tolls. And they have the power to prevent MVA registration and licensing and issue violations on you. Just stay away from it if you can. The representatives have no power to change this, and they apparently are not reliable about making changes to your account. They won't even let me speak to a supervisor.

Where to start... This company has done nothing but cause added stress to my already hectic life. Being at the fact that I NEED an EZ Pass to get to work is what pisses me off the worse. Not only is the customer service horrible but the company charges my credit card without my consent toll violations and fees. I only consent to auto replenishment and the company decides to charge my credit card those fees due to the fact they "feel" like my transponder was not visible enough. Not only was I being charged, but receiving notices in the mail to pay the exact same fees. So I've been basically charged twice for the same violation.
I've contacted the company several times in regards to getting these unnecessary fees waived due to the fact they are really adding up and does not make sense. And when I was told I would receive a callback within a week from a rep advising me if my fee waiving was approved and never got that call, I had had it with the company. I wish there was a way to get this company investigated because they are pretty much ripping off a lot of customers and based off the reviews I've read, I'm not the only victim. At this point I will just be finding other routes, routes that will take longer to get to work just so I can avoid paying a toll. I hate this company with a passion and will be calling tomorrow to be cursing out yet another representative!

I have had the worst experience dealing with EZ Pass. My EZ Pass for some reason wasn't charging my card like it was set up to do. So out of nowhere because previously my card was being charged I began getting outrageous bills because I was being charged for the toll and violations. When I spoke with EZ Pass to fix this they assured me my card would be charged when the balance was low. Well a month later I received yet another outrageous bill. I paid this bill along with the previous bill. Tried to speak with someone about it. Basically I was told “pay the bill before the due date or you will be charged an even more outrageous bill and possibly have other issues with the mva or you can go to court but you won't get a court date before the due date and you are required to pay court costs.”
Basically I had no choice. Paid the bill, sucked it up, and canceled my EZ Pass account. Two years later my husband now needs an EZ Pass for work. It just makes things simpler for him. I set up the limit to charge my account 25 dollars each time the EZ Pass needs to be replenished. Well come to find out a month after having my EZ Pass, EZ Pass decided without any confirmation from me or an email to inform me or phone call to raise my amount when the EZ Pass needs to be replenished to $175. I wasn't expecting this charge. Needless to say I am very frustrated and irritated with this service/company. I feel as though they know they can do these things and finagle people out of money.

I continually have issues with logging into my online account to add funds, check balances, etc. Almost every time I need to call and reset my password and calling is such a nightmare. After sitting on hold forever they ALWAYS start with one of the following: "They can't find me in the system," "I don't have an account," etc., etc. Sure enough if I persist, they magically find me and begrudgingly assist. (Sigh) Why is this so hard? It really is a simple process and straightforward to upkeep! 1000's of organizations do this well every day. So frustrating.

I received a replacement tag in Jan.2015, at my place in Florida for the winter. Never used this tag, of course, since there is no EZ Pass service in FL. To my surprise, the March bill showed about 6 transactions for toll fees in Boston, Albany, NY, etc. -- a total of about $24 -- with the tag # of the tag that I received in FL in January!
Customer rep told me to write a letter explaining the situation. I did. No response. Calling again after I noticed that EZ Pass declared this tag stolen or lost, charging me $16, while the tag was still in my possession. This time the CSR listened to my explanation and he would add his two cents to my dispute. Today (June 22) I received a response that they won't credit my account for the Feb. transactions since the tolls in dispute occurred prior to MY (!!) reporting that the tag was stolen or lost. I never declared the tag stolen. They did. Called again today. Talked to a supervisor. They won't credit me. They simply won't believe when I say I NEVER used that tag because I was in FL. I gave up. VERY POOR customer service and no solution. I surrender.

It seems about every 8 to 10 times I go through one of the tunnels around here, I get charged for a three-axle vehicle, I drive a Ford F-150 and have never pulled a trailer. When I complain I get bored indifference from the counter people at the E-Z Pass office. When I speak to a manager the money is eventually returned to my account. I should not have to watch the account like a hawk to keep them honest. Are other people having this problem? Is a class action suit necessary to get the ERT folks to straighten this out? This is frustrating.

I have moved from Brooklyn to Rockaway March 1st 2015. As a Rockaway resident I am entitled to resident EZ Pass rate. Since I travel to work everyday the tolls add up quickly. I am a very responsible individual, I have called EZ Pass to request resident rate to which I was told to fax my current bill and registration. I have done so, a week later I saw I still was not receiving the rate. I called back, I was told that my registration did not match up with my license plate I have on file (which I still don't understand how considering I have had the same plate for over 10 years). I was told to fax insurance and my bill which I just... Another week goes by and nothing! I call back to inquire about my status, I was told that I need to fax all 15 pages of my bill and not just the front portion that indicates my address and date of the bill. So I go ahead and oblige to this request.
Another week and half goes by and NOTHING! I call back and I was told that I had to refax my bill and registration again because supposedly each piece of information gets deleted automatically therefore I have to fax all documents at once and include another letter explaining the situation. I have faxed everything once again and patiently waited. Once again over a week goes by and I am being owe over 200 dollars at this point. I reluctantly ordered a new driver's license just to satisfy their address request and faxed it over. I received my residency rate after a long conversation with a supervisor. Two days later I receive a letter that states my residency could not be confirmed and I was back to regular rate and no credit. I called again and faced all of the information AGAIN!!! Now I finally received my residency rate HOWEVER they are only crediting me from the date of the FAX!!!
Not my bill and not my numerous requests and phone calls which is absurd! I called their customer service where **, customer service representative told me there is nothing she could do for me and to take it up with disputing department. Are you kidding me? I have followed the procedure step by step since March 3, 2015 and we are in June and I still have not been credited the amount that is owed to me, it is a robbery! Hard working middle class member of a society that has been unjustly robbed by NY EZ Pass!
They are so quick to take out the ridiculous tolls they charge across the city, but to pay them back that has a process with so many variables that it is impossible to complete! Someone needs to stop these thieves in their tracks before they reach a point where they are complete untouchable and hard working people of NY AND NJ have no say! I am disgusted by the unprofessional treatment and if they didn't MONOPOLIZE this business I would have definitely search for an alternative.

On April 30, 2015 at approximately 1:30 p.m., my wife and I paid a toll of $14 to enter the Lincoln Tunnel. We did not ask for a receipt because we have been coming through the Lincoln Tunnel for years and paying the toll each time without incident. We are careful to only use the lanes that provide for the payment of cash. We just received a Notice of Violation Enforcement Action, and because we didn't have a receipt, they told us we had to pay the $14 again. Lesson learned - now we will always demand a receipt, even though it means slowing down the line.

Anyway they waived the $50 by courtesy; I paid with my debit card Social Security acct. Couple days after they send another violation for $14 + $50 administration fees. I received an EZ Pass violation in March 2015. I logged on to my account that shows no violations outstanding. I then entered the violation number doing a search. All this was done knowing that I did not have a violation and was not in the area where it allegedly occurred on February 24, 2015. I opened the picture of the vehicle causing the violation and discovered that that vehicle was not mine and the registration plate was Connecticut license plate. I have never registered a vehicle in Connecticut and have never lived in Connecticut. The plate is not even close to any of my NJ registrations.
I emailed two disputes to EZ Pass via their website. Received a notice via email that someone would contact me about my dispute. No response. Received two more notices via mail that I was overdue on my violation. Called violation dispute number and never spoke with a live person. The prompts instructed me to approve EZ Pass to charges my account for the violation if I was disputing it. What! Pay for a violation that I did not cause. Not my car. Not my registration. I want to dispute the violation not pay for it. Sent a notice back to EZ Pass disputing the violation and informing them that the registration is from Connecticut and not NJ. Received a reply back stating that my info was insufficient and that I would have to pay the fine. No where else to go. Cannot get any help. Still outstanding.

I requested proof of account balances at the time of violations because on my NJ EZ Pass account you cannot access balance information past 90 days. On January when I was passing a bridge at the border of New York city where the toll is $14, the officer in the toll plaza signaled me that I might pass without paying a fee. Few weeks later I received a violation notice from EZ Pass New York stating I needed to pay $14. I then sent back their letter with a dispute saying the toll plaza officer signaled me to pass without paying. I wrote this dispute within 30 days after receiving the violation notice. They sent me the receipt of the dispute saying I needed to pay $14+$50 administration fee. The day they sent out the receipt was after the 30-day period. I called their customer service and explained my circumstance to the phone operator. She told me she doesn't know why that plaza officer let me pass but she does know that they don't give free ride and suggested me writing a letter to their violation department since there was no dispute section in the letter they sent me this time.
I took her advice and wrote them a letter saying I now understood and would pay $14 but they needed to waive the $50 administration fee because me not paying it within 30 days is because they sent me the receipt after 30 days, but still there is the $50 on the second receipt. Then I chose to pay the $64 since the fee may rise even higher as time wears on. From their point of view, I was a guy who wanted to skip the fee. But they totally ignored the fact that they need time to process and that process time probably costs their customers.

NJ EZ PASS is the most ** organization around. Many of the tolls are broken, so you pay and nothing registers, then you get a bill for $50 plus the toll you already paid. It is an incredible scam, which should be illegal. I barely ever drive on the highway yet this has happened to me at least 3 times. And when you make a complaint it's incredibly complicated and impenetrable on purpose so you'll just give up and pay. It should be illegal. I'm going to start making videos of me putting money into the tolls from now on -- it's your only (possible) defense against this scam.

On 3/27/15 I was taking a trip to NY to visit my daughter in college. When I went through my first toll booth, the light was yellow. I could not read what it said. I panicked because I was still in Mass and only at the beginning of my trip. I planned on stopping at the first rest stop to call customer service. I called customer service and the first thing they asked me for was my name. She said we don't have you listed anywhere. Then she asked me for my 4-digit pin number. I gave a number. She said it was not correct. I said I have no idea what it is. I have had an EZ Pass account (formerly Fast Lane) for almost 10 years. She said, "well then I can't help you because I won't be able to look at your account." This was beyond frustrating.
I called a second time and received a man who asked for my name. I gave it and said "I can't find you." It turns out that it is still under my married name, though I've been divorced 4 years. I said I thought I changed it online. He rudely said to me, that is not possible. I explained that I do not know my pin number, that I am on a road trip. He said, "well then I can't access your account." I told him that this was beyond frustrating. I said I know there is something wrong with my transponder and I don't want to get fined. He said "well then, you can fax me a letter and I will be able to access your account." I told him I am in my car and I have no way to use a fax machine. I said there should be a backup for people who do not know their pin numbers such as a security question or last 4 digits of my social security number. He says "well we don't do it that way." I hung up on him. At this point I realized I was going to have to pay cash.
My next toll booth was the beginning of the Mass Pike. I go to the cash/EZ Pass booth and expect I will now have to take a ticket. I forgot the transponder was on the windshield so it wouldn't give me a ticket, BUT it did turn green with the words low account. After wracking my brain, I finally realized that I had not updated my new credit card after just recently my previous credit card had been compromised. I pulled into the next rest area and used my phone to go online to update my credit card. It asked for either: my account number (did not know it), transponder # (which I did enter, but didn't work), email, (which I also entered. and it told me it was wrong.) I entered it 3 times. It would not take it.
I called customer service again (believe me, this is the last place I wanted to call). She said "well entering the transponder number is a new feature but it doesn't work." She said entering the account number doesn't work either. Are you kidding me? I said "why doesn't my email address work?" She said "I don't know." I also sent an email explaining my entire situation and I received a very rude answer back saying that when I signed up for my EZ Pass, I signed a contract and picked a pin, knowing that I was going to have to use it if I needed to contact customer service. Basically telling me I am at fault. I continued to go through the EZ Pass toll booths my entire trip to NY and all the way back. I continued to get green lights but with the words low account.
I am now home and just updated my credit card on my account. Why I was able to log in through my laptop but not my phone is beyond me. After reading all these posts, I am really nervous that I will be getting bills with large fees in a couple of days or up to 4 months with no recourse. My blood is boiling having to deal with state run agencies. Ask me about health care. That is a whole other story :)

There were no exits or ways to turn around until after a toll booth that was several miles in the wrong direction. I did not have any cash on me, and they don't take credit/debit. I talked to the person and said I'm just going to turn around and go back the other way, yet still I was written a ticket in both directions. In the second direction I tried to show them the ticket I had JUST received on the other side just minutes earlier, to no avail. What was originally a $1.25 toll each way has become $97.50 and that's before the "convenience" fee of paying online or by phone.
I was unaware that it is illegal to not have cash on you in this country. This was over Xmas vacation and early January with a lot of snow in the Northeast and slow mail deliveries, rental car people on vacation, etc. The next thing you know I get a summons for a $50 fine from the same outfit because they said I didn't pay the invoice or I paid it late (they were not specific on this point).
It wasn't like I was trying to beat the toll. I had the $8 in my hand as I approached the toll plaza. There wasn't anybody there to accept the money from me. That's my fault? And I did pay the $12, and the check cleared. What do they want from me (and you, who will undoubtedly fall into this scam sooner or later too)? $50 is a big wad of money, especially when they have the $12 I owed them, albeit 2 days "late".
I called the MTA-EZ-Pass "Service" Center about 8 times and talked with 6 different "Service Representative", each one vowing to get me satisfaction and relief me of paying the $50 bite. They were just sucking up to me and playing the people-pleasing-schmooze-game on me, a variant of the good ole Good-Guy-Bad-Guy game we have all fallen prey to in some form or other by scammers of every ilk. Try as I might I could never get past the EZ-Pass front guard Service Representatives to someone in authority who could (presumably) bring me a modicum of satisfaction.
When I asked how I could appeal the $50 "fine", they told me I could go to court in Cecil County Maryland and tell my story to The Judge. Well, that would mean giving up a day's work and a day's pay and betting on The Judge would be in a sympathetic mood that day. Been there, done that before, No Thanks. I see this as a form of EXTORTION not JUSTICE as we are supposed to have here in the United States of America, Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, Justice for All. They know I'm not gonna travel 100 miles to fight a $50 fine no matter how unfair it is and no matter how smitten I am about it.
It's a form of BULLYING in that EZ-Pass & MTA are throwing around their considerable power and authority to extract grossly exaggerated penalties by requiring you to jump thru irrational and counter-productive hoops knowing full well in the end you will be forced to pay the $50, or find out The Judge called in sick the day you actually do give up a day of work and go to court to plead your case (Yes, that did happen to me in a similar situation years ago.). Basically, the Maryland Transportation Authority has licensed EZ-Pass to trick and extort well-intentioned citizens like me and you, so they can sit back and collect $50 fines created by EZ-Pass Corporation's incompetence and mismanagement. It's a good gig if you can get it!

Understand people if you receive a fine from them, pay it immediately, if it jumps to 50.00 penalty. For lack of another option, at this point I would pay it. Why this fine will only double to 100 plus the original cost of the fine. Also the cherry on top is they will report to the credit reporting agency. After you pay the 50.00 you then can fight to see what recourse we have. This is difficult but it is a nightmare to get them to remove these fines. HONESTLY, I'm sorry I have to advise to pay the 50.00 but be warned.

I encourage everyone who uses the express lanes to double check their account for any inaccuracies. My grandmother happened to be one of them. Elderly with Alzheimer's, she never let me know she received a bill. Well, the toll bill has racked up to $55 for going through a tunnel both ways one time.
Since I use other cars too and go through the tunnel 4 times a week, it has become a hassle keeping track of all of the pay-by-plate toll bills. I have had to pay countless $25 fees. The fee is absolutely ludicrous to add per statement. It is completely unnecessary and absolutely disgusting. I can't wait until I am done with school. This company will not take anymore of my money ever again.
After my experience and reading others as well, they have left and absolutely bad taste in my mouth forever. About a month ago I received a Final Violation Notice in my mail from E-Z Pass. I was very surprised reading FINAL Violation Notice since I have never received an initial notice. The violation called on me paying $13 toll plus $50 administration fee. I called E-Z Pass and one if their representatives assisting me said that she doesn't see that they even attempted to mail me the initial violation instead they just mailed me a Final Notice.
She advised me on writing a letter along with the check for the toll which would ask for one time fee waiver courtesy explaining the reason why my EZ pass which I have for 5 years now wasn't able to reload. (Just to mention to you all my Chase cards were cancelled by Chase due to Security Issues which I wasn't aware of you till 2 weeks after, when I was trying to use the card in the store where it came up declined). So I wrote the letter explaining all this and mailed it.
Few weeks later I saw EZ pass has cashed my check so my mind was put in ease that they accepted the letter. How wrong I was!! A couple of weeks ago I received a mail from E-Z Pass stating that they have sent me to a collection agency for the $50. So I called them again gave them the violation number printed on the letter. They told me that this printed violation number doesn't match my name or address so I shouldn't worry. I asked them why was I sent to collections not the person that the above violation belonged to. They couldn't give me an answer and told me not to worry.
I decided to call back and finally reached a rep. named Henry who researched my name and found my past violation that was paid but the administrative fee was still assessed on it. He said that the letter I mailed was read and the EZ pass clerk didn't find my explanation to be a good enough reason for dismissal of the $50 fee and sent me to a collection. I believe that a Security Fraud is a pretty good reason for Chase to cancel my cards however a clerk at EZ Pass doesn't. Henry told me to fax the wrong violation letter to his supervisor Revia and assured me she will call me back with the solution. Two weeks past and no word from Revia the supervisor. So I called today and the rep. told me that there is no way they will waive the fee and I'm still in collections. I find this whole situation ridiculous. Incompetent people in supervisor positions robbing hard working people and ruining their credit.

Upon my return home and to work the day after (I work in a remote location with WIFI but no telephone access for up to 5 weeks at a time). By the time I returned home to a stack of mail, I found a letter stating that I owed the Commonwealth of Massachusetts $106 for a late payment.
I tried time and time again to access the PayByPlate website with no luck. It has been blocked entirely, stating that safety and security were issues and I could not proceed. Again, I cannot call unless I am at home as I do not have access to a telephone in my remote northern job site. I tried the website from my phone and computer as well as those of my coworkers with no luck anywhere.
I had the joy *eyes rolling so badly it hurts* of speaking with a CSR at PayByPlate who was completely useless and beyond rude. I then decided to write an appeal. I explained my situation with living away with no telephone for over a month at a time and their website not being accessible in Canada. But nope, no help. Their solution? Buy an EZPass. Why? But then you get another violation that is doubled up to $200. WHAT A SCAM NYC has going on. Finally after the third time this has happened to me I got a live person on the phone. But when I called NJ EZ Pass, they said as long as it was not a red light, I was good to go and could correct it later. 2 weeks after I got back to Virginia, I started receiving letters from NJ - if the toll was $2.85, NJ added a $50 administration fee FOR EACH TOLL BOOTH. So, a $2.85 toll became $52.85. 4 toll booths - $200 worth of administration fees. Apparently, the booths were not able to read my EZ-Pass in NJ. I did get a letter from New Hampshire $3.85 toll and $1 administration fee ($4.85 total) - no big deal. When I tried to protest to NJ - by phone and by email - well don't waste your time. When you finally get a hold of anyone, they just give you a runaround. To call $50 an administration fee and not a penalty (which is not legal, I am told) is just a bunch of nonsense. On October 25, 2014, I returned a copy of their bill with the following dispute message all of which is true, and I signed the message: "I'll be happy to pay the toll, and I had attempted in every foreseeable way to do so, but your so-called admin fee is absurd." There is no way that one could have expected the Dulles Toll Road to be E-Z Pass or coins only, and the same holds true for the toll line I was in. What's more, there was no way I could have backed up and gotten into the Full Service line. If I could, it would have been my second 20-minute delay at such a line the second 20-minute delay for that one trip itself.
There was no warning at all that the lane was coins only. Instead, the sign said cash only, and until one reached the gate itself, there was no way of knowing or suspecting that the toll gate would not accept a dollar bill. Even so, I got out of my car and attempted to walk to the full service gate, dollar bill in hand, to pay the toll. The attendant motioned me back into my car; opened the gate; and motioned me through. There is no question I was wrong to start with, my CC had expired and I needed to update the information for my account. I had a couple times going through the tolls (I'm a daily commuter on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge) in which the system "buzzed" letting me know there was a problem. I go into my account, pay the fees and added money to my account figuring everything was fine. Turns out that EZ Pass decided to make an alternate account using my current tag number and associated non-payed fees and late charges were attached to this "NEW" account.
How in this day and age a computer system wouldn't let you know that the tag already has an account I have no clue (and no one was able to answer that question as well with EZ Pass). The end result was that I owed over $400 in "late fees" and other charges for not using all my trips on my account even though my MTag account was working just fine. This was all due to them creating a separate account for my car and tag number and not associating my account I've had since MTag started at this toll for many years. So I ended up paying over $500 to clear my account (majority of the fees were some daily late fees that were over $25 a day for months). Even though my physical MTag had been working fine for months, they didn't care, I was told there was no one else that I could speak with about these charges and the only choice I had was to pay the fees if I ever expected to renew my license or tag.
I was so frustrated the wife ended up paying the fees since I refused to! So how a company just up and creates a separate account for your tag even though the tag is already associated with an account I have no idea. They said mailing statements were sent out which I had never received, and why there was no indication of any of these issues when I log into my MTag account I don't understand! If these issues were tied to my account like any other normal company "account" in this world I would have paid everything to date and been done with it. I paid off my balance and was using my MTag for a month before I was made aware of the back money they said I owed since it was associated with a different account than the one tied to my MTag. I feel bad for having to cheat the MDOT now to "get back" my money I lost but if they want to cheat me out of hundreds of dollars I WILL get my money back one way or another...

I called back again a few weeks later and was told that it required further investigations through the DMV. It has now been over two months and I still have not received a credit for the unauthorized charges. They don't care who they get the money from as long as someone pays toward their paychecks. Customer service is not good within this company.

Surprised! I get a letter for a toll violation from New Jersey Turnpike Authority for a $7.25 toll and a $50 fine for crossing a bridge that I never crossed. It has a picture of the FRONT of a small truck which is not mine. I call, 3 times and 45 minutes later the rep understands that it is not mine simply by looking at the picture because #1 PA does not use a front mounted license plate and #2 It's a novelty tag from a Harley Davidson shop saying Fatboy on a PA tag like background. You can get these to say Softail, Road King Ultra and many more models. I have a PA Tag that says Fat Boy, 2 words. Case Closed Right?
A month later, next letter. I still owe $57.25. I write a letter listing the above reasons why it is not me including the following; PA does not use a front mounted license plate. It's a novelty tag from a Harley Davidson shop saying Fatboy on a PA tag like background. I have a PA Tag that says Fat Boy, two words. The pictured vehicle is not an Impalla to which my tag is registered to. Their employee Jimmy understood all this when I called and was to take care of this. I also asked that they make note so that I don't get constant letters every time someone runs their toll with a novelty tag similar to my PA tag. Case Closed Right?
Next letter, "We have reviewed you your account and Determined that the license plate is registered to you according to DMV." How incompetent are these people?Next letter, Collection Agency! Already worrying about a court summons to N.J., now I have to worry about them screwing with my credit. I already have a couple hours involved with their incompetence, now I have to monitor my credit report and deal with a collection agency. I think it's time for a lawyer, any takers?

My personal experience with EZ Pass is as follows: I got my transponder in person at my local AAA, and paid the required deposit. When I got home, I registered online for an account and hooked up my debit card to automatically take money to replenish my account as needed. I've used it occasionally during my trips back and forth to NY (I work from home so I only use it for non-work needs). It saves me time and saves me money on PA roads. While I have yet to have a problem with billings, I just read about potential overbilling in other states, so I'll have to go back and check again. However, as far as I can see I've not been billed for driving on a road on which I've never been, and I've not had a problem. I check my online account regularly after using the EZ Pass and suggest others do the same.
On another note, beware of a phishing scam that's been getting worse... To those who have received emails about owing money for EZ Pass violations, be very careful - there's a confirmed EZ Pass scam that sends emails claiming you owe money for a violation, but that you have to click the link to download the invoice. These emails are not real and should be reported to the BBB, FTC and IC3 (The Internet Crime Complaint Center). The EZ Pass Group has a warning on its website, and a number of local outlets and member state EZ Pass websites have also issued warnings. If you have received a violation email, don't click the link, but instead call your EZ Pass group to ensure you did indeed receive a violation. These emails look very real, and use the right colors and logos. For anyone who wants to tell their stories for an online newspaper, please feel free to contact me.

I updated my EZPASS account online to change my vehicle registration information after purchasing a new car. I retained the same license plate so only needed to change the vehicle make, model, year. However, the system changed the type of plate from vanity to regular registration. I actually recall reading the options on the drop down and questioning which type of registration as it did not clearly show any vanity option. I left it as it was. Subsequently, I received inconsistent fees. I could pass through a toll heading north and an hour later head south, and get a flashing warning only in one direction. It turns out the system didn't recognize the account since it was not set to vanity even though everything else was correct. Calling the support line was no help. And, there is no option to dispute for this purpose. It is not the state's fault. It is the service. There should be better customer service options.

I knew that was a ripoff and a scam. I assumed I would have at least another month to pay it.
With my busy hectic life I mislocated the letter but decided to call them looking the info online to pay for the fee. At this time I had an opportunity to speak with someone in the EZ pass who explained to me that not all toll roads have an option for cash. I realized that must have been the case with me. I had no idea how I got into that. She said what I should have done is to call in 48 hrs to pay. I asked where could I have gotten the number to call? Maybe that info should have been written somewhere on the toll roads with no cash option.
When I was ready to pay it was $100.00. How is that in a month the price goes that high. They claim to send me another notice before when I actually never received one. Although my life is busy but I take the time to open all my e-mails one by one leaving a designated time for mails. This is just sad and is a way of money making. But last year there was an indiscretion and I began getting violations charges after the fact. That would turn a $10 round trip charge into a $150 charge including the fees. I fought it every way I could, with letters and Xeroxes of my checks and never made a dent in their armor. I finally called and got a person on the phone, restated the entire history, was stonewalled, but never lost my cool. At the end of the chat I politely asked if MTA ever makes an error, clerical or otherwise, regarding the payments. The answer was a flat NO. I paid the violations/fines because it was less stressful than continuing to fight. After that point I decided to start paying by credit card.
Now it's July 2014 and I've made at least 5 bridge crossing since the year started. With every bill they send, I pen in the CC account number, sign the rest of it and mail it back using their supplied envelope. I just started getting violation notices going back to March 2014 for bridge crossings made then. They want $150 because my $10 wasn't paid (according to them...). So, I look at my card charges for the year and none include the payments. Just last month, I made a payment on June 15 for my May travel and I see it's not on my account. I'll assume to get a violations charge for this too now at some point. Has anyone a similar story? I am looking for some peace of mind that I'm not in error, or the only person these up-charges are being assessed for. Do they not get their mail? Do they not process my card number when they get my mail? What? PS getting a human being on the toll-free number at MTA is one of the more difficult tasks to accomplish. Thanks.

I have been a customer with MD EZ Pass for years now and have had nothing but problems! Since you must apply by paper application that is keyed into the system by EZ Pass employees, you are at the mercy of the data entry person to enter the information correctly. However, they are not competent enough to enter the information correctly. First, I received a video toll violation because my car went through the toll with an invalid tag (thank you, EZ Pass for not keying correctly) and I was told it would be resolved and the correct charge would be taken from my EZ Pass account. 2 months and 3 calls later, this was finally resolved.
Then, I received two more video toll violations because my tag was listed as MD (thank you, EZ Pass for another stupid error), even though it is a PA tag (and was reflected as such on my application). I am being told that EZ Pass made the error, but that I am responsible for the extra fees because it is my responsibility to log into my account EVERY DAY to make sure my information is correct. I laughed at the representative because there is NO WAY they can expect customers to log onto their accounts EVERY DAY to make sure EZ Pass employees do not randomly alter your account (my tag was originally entered correctly as PA, confirmed by EZ Pass rep). I have called multiple times to resolve. I have left messages with a supervisor (Juaniqua - sp?? who has yet to call me back after multiple calls over multiple months) and have gotten nowhere.
Now, each violation has an additional $50 added to it, making each $56 when I should have been charged $1.40 for each, had EZ Pass been able to do anything correctly. I have received additional video toll violations for fees showing my car going through the toll and EZ Pass claiming that they didn't charge my account, but I have begun to double-check this and have found multiple occasions when EZ Pass deducted the fees from my account AND still sent me notices claiming that I was never charged. How is this NOT illegal?!?! I have NEVER experienced worse customer service in my entire life and cannot believe that EZ Pass is able to get away with this so often! In March 2013, we visited Maryland for a week and purchased an E-ZPass device. 1 month later, we received a bill in the mail for a negative fee of $1.5 and an additional $1.5 service fee. The Negative fee itself was completely justified and therefore we immediately called E-ZPass to pay the negative fee. We were told that in order to pay, we first need to register online and only then pay on the site. After trying to register and complete the payment online, we ran into technical difficulties with the website, which brought us to call up E-ZPass once again for assistance.
On the phone again, E-ZPass told us that they cannot assist us with the technical issues and there is no other way around it; the registration & payment can only be done on the website. At the same time, we were also being told that until we complete the payment we cannot close the account, which means that our Service Fee is automatically going to increase by $1.5 for every month. This was absurd for 2 main reasons:
A: We wanted to pay our negative fee, but E-ZPass for some reason could not help us at all - in any way, with the technical issues; basically they were saying that its our own problem, and we need to figure it out somehow. If we had the option, we would have paid on the phone or even mail a check.
B: Apparently we are being charged a monthly fee of $1.5 for service. It is imperative to mention here & simply explain that nowhere on the external packaging of the E-ZPass does it mention that there is a monthly service fee. I am holding the original package from the store as I am typing this. Only once the customer opens up the package and reads the instruction sheet, it mentions that there is a monthly fee. However, by then the customer has left the store and opened the package, meaning that it is too late to return the device. It is completely dishonest & false advertisement to sell the device and not mention to the customer before purchasing that they will have a future fee every single month (every month that the E-ZPass is not used at least 3 times or so). That is terrible!
So then we called E-ZPass once again to complain, and asked to speak to a supervisor. As always, you can NEVER get hold of a supervisor there. You have to leave a message. A few days later, we received a call back and explained the problem to the supervisor, and they promised to call us back with an answer to our problems. Well, 12 months have passed and no one ever called us back. In the meantime our service fee is building up and reached $20.
A few days ago I called E-ZPass once again in attempt to notify them that no one has ever called me and that this whole mess needs to come to an end. Very interestingly, they do not have stored in their records any indication or note from April 2013 that we were supposed to be re-contacted by the supervisor with a solution to our problem. For some reason, they are quite selective about the information they decide to save in their system. Well, once again, the regular agent was not able to assist, and a supervisor was not available, so they directed me to the supervisor's voice mail. 72 hours have passed and no one has returned my call yet. Not very surprising. I am at a point where I don't know what to do anymore. I decided to file a complaint here, and maybe now E-ZPass will actually care to help me out.

EZ Pass sent the violation notice to my lease car NISSAN FINANCIAL (the worst finance company ever-but that's a different story). NISSAN FINANCIAL went ahead and paid the $200 in fines and then billed me for it with an additional $85 handling fee. I appealed the violations after NISSAN paid them. I was denied because NISSAN did not appeal the violations.
I have just turned the lease in and have to pay an additional $285 (above the other rip off fees that NISSAN charges). Considering the FACT that I had an active account with EZ Pass at the time of the violations, I think EZ Pass should just bill me the smaller 'penalty' as I had an active account at the time and they should reimburse NISSAN so they will take the $285 off my bill. I am so angry about this that I am considering suing even if it means that I will lose money on legal fees. I am not sure who is the bigger crook...EZ Pass or NISSAN. From June of 2013 until November of 2013, I used approximately $25 in tolls and in December of 2013 my bank account had withdrawals from E-ZPass of $75.00 when my balance in the account already covered all my tolls. I called E-ZPass and they told me all the charges are for UNUSED trips.
I immediately canceled my account and sent back the transponder via confirmed delivery and it was received by them on 12/13/13. Yesterday March 24, 2014, I received a bill from E-ZPass for $40.96 stating they couldn't close my account until I paid the invoice. I called and they told me I canceled in the middle of a billing period and they didn't process it until Jan 2014 and as such I am being charged for UNUSED TRIPS. I refuse to pay this and for that matter, my daughter accidentally went through the E-ZPass in December AFTER I CANCELED (she hit the wrong lane in a vehicle previously on the EZ acct) and I was sent a bill which I immediately paid.
I canceled one of my department credit cards a few weeks ago as I never use it. I didn't receive a letter from them stating "hey, you haven't used your card because you destroyed it upon attempting to close your account, so we can't close it because you need to pay us money for unpurchased items." This is what E-ZPass is telling me... how do you go from no more than $125.00 a year to over $300 a year? Why has someone not brought a class action lawsuit against them? They are stealing money from consumers, charging consumers after accounts are closed for tolls that are non-existent. E-ZPass NJ, NY, they make you run out of funds. This is their trick. I check my balance every day, and I have enough funds to take my through the day. All of a sudden I'm out of funds, and that's when E-ZPass come and ask you to deposit a huge amount and half of that amount they keep it for themselves. Been that when you reach the minimum, right away they ask you for more money. If you don't deposit the money, they will imposed a bigger deposit. I went from $25.00 to $250 in a blink of an eye. When my fund is at $105, right away they ask to make a deposit. The $105 is like it disappear. Can somebody stop E-ZPass abusing the system?

I never received the first notice of tolls due. By the time the second notice was mailed, E-Z Pass had already assessed $700 in civil penalties! That's for $65 in tolls on the Inter County Connector in Maryland. If they had assessed a reasonable late fee, I would have considered paying it just to avoid having to deal with EZ Pass. But $700 for $65 in tolls is not reasonable.
I called E-Z Pass and was told that my only option was to dispute the charges, which is what I did. Three weeks later, I still had not received a notice of court hearing in the mail and as you know failure to show up is considered to be "admission of fault". So after calling E-Z Pass to find out when the court hearing will be scheduled and being told that they don't have this information (but that the hearing will be "sometime in the Spring" - very helpful!). I finally decided to go in person and talk to someone at their Stop In Center.
I drove all the way to Bay Bridge and devoted half my Saturday to resolving this issue with E-Z Pass. The customer service rep informed that they have a new procedure (as of Feb 18, 2014) for people who did not receive the first notice. Apparently, this has happened to more than one person!! Well, as you can imagine, I almost jumped to the ceiling at the prospect of finally getting this resolved! However, the rep wasn't sure exactly what to do (because this was a "new" procedure) and asked me to follow up with her supervisor, Leslie **, during the week.
I gave Ms. ** a call today and was told that they could have waived the $700 penalty fees under the new procedure *if* I had not already disputed the charges. I am still in shock by this response! I disputed the charges because this is what E-Z Pass instructed me to do when I first contacted them to let them know that I didn't receive the first notice of tolls due. It was on their advice that I took this action. Ms. ** told me that she was checking with people "higher up" (but wouldn't tell me who) about my situation, and that she had already inquired about a similar case but did not get any response from the "higher ups". Sounds very reassuring, doesn't it?
What really upset me is that she mentioned that I may have to go to three different courts on three different dates because the Inter County Connector runs through three different jurisdictions in Maryland. So depending on where the violations occurred, I may have to go to different district courts to dispute the $700 in additional fees. In other words, either cough up $700 or take three days off work to deal with a problem created by the fact that the E-Z Pass notification system doesn't work (I'm not the only person to not receive the first notification) and that they didn't have a procedure in place until 2/18/14 to deal with people not getting the first notice.
This feels very much like extortion! I hope that EZ Pass gets hit with a class action lawsuit. Who can take three days off work and hire a lawyer to represent them in court in three different counties? It would be less expensive to pay the $700 in additional fees, but I will continue to fight this out of principle and hope that even without proper representation a judge can see how wrong this is. Hopefully, the information I've provided about the new procedure can help others. Keep in mind that, as I mentioned, this is a "new" procedure and some reps may not be aware of it.

Important Safety Tip! E-ZPass replacement tags can get improperly scanned during mail delivery! I noticed $16.50 in (3 toll) charges on JAN 24-25, 2014 for a newly issued tag on the NJTP/I-95 corridor. I have not scanned any of my tags for over a year in any toll plaza. As it happens my new tag was being mailed from the NY MTA office to Virginia by ground transport.
When I called 'Timothy' in their NY cust. service office, he stated 'that happens'; The USPS-transport truck went through the (3) toll plazas and MY live tag was scanned on that trip! He promised to refund all fees for that day. I'll have to log in to check on that later. Point-1: The replacement tag was NOT shielded in a Mylar coated bag on this mail journey. Aluminum coated baggies are not expensive tools. Is this just carelessness or do they employ grifters in their agency?
Point-2: Credit cards mailed to customers are INACTIVE until you receive them and activate them. E-ZPass tags are linked directly to your C. Card; Is this too exotic a concept for the Inter-Agency-Group?! Can you say "Class Action?!" When returning the OLD Battery-powered active tag, I wrapped it in ALU foil from the kitchen. At least the new narrower [S13] tags are PASSIVE RFID style so they should not need replacing in the future. Nobody sweats the details like a municipal agency. Check out the Wikipedia entry for E-ZPass. They detail which regional consortium agencies who DO NOT charge monthly 'administrative' fees or steep per-tag charges. That's worth the visit!

They sent me the replacement tag and I am very happy that I kept the envelope in which it came to me, because it shows that it was stamped by the US Postal Service on 12/10/13. I received it on 12/16/13, but on 12/12/13 my statement shows a transaction with the new tag number from a tunnel that in all the years that I have e-z pass I never used! And I was also explained by a customer service representative at the E-Z pass office that probably the Postal Service truck transporting the mailed tags passed by the toll and it charged my account. So be alert because what this means is that everybody who receives a replacement tag will be mistakenly charged the toll when the postal vehicle crosses an e-z pass toll booth. This should not have to happen if e-z pass mailed the tags in a reader proof envelope color silver, or the new tag needed to be activated by the customer upon receipt.

My wife and I got a Final Notice in the mail today regarding sending the "old tags" back to them after they sent us the new transponders. Well, we did send the old ones back to them a month and a half ago. We put both in the mylar bag as instructed and plopped it into the mailbox...big mistake. We should have done it at the post office and asked for tracking, so we could have avoided this mess. I know they have the stupid things too, they probably lost it themselves or haven't processed or maybe processed them under the wrong account who knows. All I know is we shouldn't be charged $18 or so for something we didn't ask for. Not to mention EZ Pass isn't a free service anyway so why the heck should we be charged for tags that they sent us and we paid for over the course of four years or more. This isn't the first time either we had problems with them.
The first time was when I had to send them back my old tag after I closed out my account. Well, they received the transponder, but never actually closed my account. Then the next issue was we were having issues with one of the tags, so we called up customer service. They told my wife "Oh yeah, that happens every now and then, it is because the battery is dying. So we'll send you a new one." A battery....we looked at each other confused. What the heck was he talking about. Of course we never received any new transponders because the guy outright lied to us, or had no idea what the heck he was talking about. Anyway EZ Pass is convenient for the most part as long as you don't have issues with your tags or account, which you will eventually. But for the five or six years we've had EZ Pass it is worth it, better than having to wait to pay in cash.

Well as I have found out after ½ day of talking to everyone, they have the EZ Pass already mounted in the car, so even if you pay cash, the EZ pass is charging!!!! So, actually, they do not disconnect the EZ pass. It is already on the car so it is a way for them to charge more for your rental car whether or not you want it. They do not include it in the price of the car when you rent but when you go through a toll, automatically you are going to pay $100 more because there is no way of disabling the EZ pass. This is a total racket!!! I want to know how to bring this to a Consumer Affairs that I can fight it. I contacted NJ E-ZPass on October 30, 2013 when I noticed that there were double charges on my NY and NJ E-ZPass statements. I spoke with a CS representative named Doniesa who requested that I fax over copies of both statements and address the fax to her attention. Feeling as if this issue would be satisfactorily resolved, I promptly sent the fax. Doniesa stated it would take 5-7 business days for the credit to be placed back to my NJ account.
On December 3, 2013, I was checking my NJ account and noticed that the charges were still listed and no credit ($32.25) had been provided. I called NJ E-ZPass (after tediously listening to voice prompts) to inquire as to the status of my credit only to be told that Doneisa "never received the fax as it wasn't delivered to her". The CS rep on the phone, Tina, was abrupt and borderline rude with me. I informed her that this was ridiculous; a customer should have confidence that when calling regarding an issue and is informed it will be resolved, should be able to believe it will be resolved!
Finally, she told me I could resend the statements to the supervisor, Terrence **, to his email address and it would take 3-5 business days for resolution and if I wish to make a complaint, I could always send a letter to EZPass. No address provided! I sent the email to Terrence, explained the situation and also noted that an address was not provided by Tina in which to submit a complaint. Terrence writes me back later the same day indicating that there are 2 double charges on the statements (there are actually 4) and it will be investigated and if necessary (WTH?!) a credit will be on my account within 10-15 business days! Oh, and he also did not provide an address to submit a written complaint!
Now for my other grievances: (1) Why doesn't E-ZPass allow customers to adjust the replenishment amounts/thresholds? (2) Why doesn't E-ZPass notify customers (email, text) when a replenishment amount increases prior to deducting it from the customer's account? Imagine my surprise when the replenishment amount jumped from $25 to $80 to now $130... all without me knowing and preparing my budget accordingly.

Before I begin, I want to say that I never trusted ezpass to begin with. I only signed up for an ez pass because I got a new job in Orange County, NY. The drive is very long and waiting in cash toll lines were impeding my already long trip. Anyway, I signed up for the ezpass standard plan and added a credit card for auto pay. Although, I added the credit card, I still added funds to my account with my debit card. I always feared the low balance call ezpass notice on tolls and wanted to make sure my account had the proper funds. For the record, I never put my debit card on file. Why? You'll find out very soon.
The first nightmare: On Monday morning, after crossing the Whitestone, I got the dreaded low balance, call ezpass notice. I couldn't understand. My account was properly funded. I told the toll officer that my account is properly funded as I added money the night before. He wasn't hearing it. He said there is something wrong with my ezpass and took it from me and gave me a toll pay later slip. Now this was Monday morning and my account had a $50 balance but they say I have a low balance huh? I later called ezpass and they said they were unable to charge my primary card on file. Secondly, they said that payments take two days to get updated with the tollbooths. That's complete BS because I've been making payments the night before with no problems. To summarize, my Ezpass was confiscated because they were unable to charge my primary card, even though there was a $50 balance. Only in America.
The second (current) nightmare: I went to an ezpass center and got a new ezpass. To avoid the previous nightmare, I (very foolishly) put my debit card on file. At first everything was fine. They charged me daily for my toll usage and everything ran smoothly. Then one day, I checked my bank account and BAM! Ezpass charged me a whopping $390 bucks and this was taken from my checking account! There was no warning, no notice, nothing. This is why I never put this card on file.
I called my bank to see if I could stop the payment but it was too late. They had already taken the money. My bank informed me that it will be difficult to get my funds back since I used a debit card. I called ezpass and those jokers told me that the computer system analyzed and charged me upfront based off my daily use. I told them that I was in job training and would be getting a new off peak work schedule soon. Therefore, it's impossible to analyze my daily usage. I asked them for a refund and they said it will take up to 30 days. So, they can charge my debit card instantly but now it will take 30 days to give it back?? I asked why will it take so long and they said, "It gets processed in the computer, and then someone looks at and issues a refund." It takes that long to do that???? Only in America.
Currently, I'm harassing them every day until I get my money back. Also, I stopped using their piece of ** ezpass and just paying with cold cash. I'm going to call again tomorrow and demand a supervisor. I won't stop until I get my money back. My advice to anyone is to use some type of prepaid credit card and preload it with funds. This way, when ezpass acts funky, you won't drown financially. Another is to pre-pay, but give yourself two days so the funds can clear. For example, if you need funds starting on Monday, add funds on Wednesday. Because the "computer" might not count the weekend as days! Thanks for reading!

I have had several horrible experiences with them. Once was when they wanted to charge me a fortune for a broken E-ZPass that was affixed to my license plate. Someone backed up into me and broke it and they made me jump through hoops to get another. Every single person you talk to there has a terrible attitude. They make it completely obvious that they could care less. That was the case here.
Another time was when they sent me a fine because the E-ZPass wasn't read. I had to get a new one. I had to go there in person and deal with the horrible attitudes of the people working there after dealing with the nasty tones of the people I had to talk on the phone with. They move like turtles and are only friendly to each other, having conversations with each other while the customers wait!
The latest is when I had to be stopped at the Verrazano. I have no idea what the problem with my account is. I just had to be stopped. The best is that you can’t even get someone on the phone except during bankers hours! They have millions of customers and they can’t get someone to work until 8 or 10 pm? Ridiculous! They’re supposed to be there till 7pm but try calling after 5. They ignore the phone. Then again they’re probably smoking cigarettes or home already getting paid till 7!
Do you think the upper management E-ZPass cares? Why would they? Their millions of customers are forced to use their garbage service! The only thing we can do is make complaints on sites like this and hope something eventually happens. Hopefully local governments will realize they don’t need E-ZPass to get paid for their service. When I called them up to ask where those violations were coming from, I was first told that they didn't know and had to investigate. But later on I was told that they were backing dated violation from May. Conveniently for them, they waited until my account was down to $20 again, to charge me with $25 of violations and other fees, which drove my account back to negative and of course, added others fees and violations. Their explanations made no sense. According to them some violations come right away on your account and some can take up to a month to appear. Really???? But yet they can tell you what time by the second you've entered or exit a road. And to top it all, I cannot from my account go back far enough to check and see if I had indeed violate the E-ZPass. Scandalous!!!

I do not have E-ZPass and I always pay cash, usually at the exact change lanes. When I once recently traveled on the Garden State Parkway, I got a notice from E-ZPass a while later stating that I didn't pay $1.50 at one of the the toll plazas and I owed them $1.50 plus $50 administrative costs. I tried to contact them by phone denying that I didn't pay and I couldn't get through by phone. So I ignored the first request. When I got a second request for payment, I did reach them by phone and stated unequivocally that I always pay in coin at the exact change lane. They said if I didn't have a receipt, I owed them the money but, they'll waive the $50 as a courtesy. I asked, "What if I don't pay?" They said it would go to a collection agency. They said I should pay but, they have a way of finding out if I did pay and then they'll refund the money and they let me pay by credit card. I still haven't received my credit and I know I paid. I regret having paid. I'd rather let a collection agency bother me. In fact I once overpaid a toll by mistake, a whole dollar. When I requested a refund, they told me they don't give refunds! HA! They only take your money even unfairly, but they don't give refunds. The nerve!

I signed up for EZ Pass myself finally in Maryland. After paying a $10 fee for the transponder, I learned there was another $1.50 a month "maintenance fee." Then they wanted your credit card to take out payments if the account balance gets below $10. You are not given the option to make one-time credit card payments yourself unless you want to register in person at an MVA office. Good luck with that - that's a waste of half a day. I read on here of some horror stories of EZ Pass taking out as much money from your credit card as they deem fit and people not being able to get money back after they try to close the account. Some can't even close the account. One user received a bill of more than $1,000 with most claiming to be late fees for a toll she supposedly did not pay for. This seems like a system out of control ripe for fraud. I am a reporter looking into it. If anyone has any similar problems in Maryland, feel free to contact me at **.

I have been a customer with EZ Pass for a couple of years and I have always been prompt with my payments. I received a letter from the collection agency regarding my account. I called to ask why I haven't received any notifications regarding my account to have prevented it from going into collections. They claimed they sent a letter to my address, which was indeed a lie because I asked for the date it was sent. The representative couldn't give me a date. I asked to speak to his manager because he was giving me too much attitude. He refused to get a manager. This company is the worst.

I have had an EZ Pass since 2005 and have always been set up with auto pay. I had it set up to pay $35 a renewal. All of a sudden, I started seeing $65 taken out of my checking account. I called the customer service and was told that they limit the number of auto payments to two per month. But if I wanted this to be reduced, all I needed to do was speak to someone in accounting and they would take care of it. That was not the case.
I was told that they automatically review my account each month and based on my usage in order to stay within the two automatic replenishment limits each month, they will automatically increase what they charge me on each renewal. The best part is the only way you know that your amount will be increased is if you happen to go onto the website and check your account. The only way to stop this is if you opt out of auto replenishment. At which time, they charge you a $10 deposit on each transponder. That is on top of the deposit and charges they already charged me for the transponder when I signed up 7 years ago.
When I questioned that, I was asked if I had proof of what I paid 7 years ago because her system would only allow her to go back to 2007. If I keep the transponder on, have it set up on auto replenishment, I am considering filing a transaction dispute through my bank for every transaction over the amount that I approved. This has to be illegal. If EZ Pass wants to limit the auto replenishment to twice per month, it should still be at the amount that I determine. Once I go over that balance, I should be able to determine if I want to add more manually or stop using the transponder.

This company is ridiculous. They force you to provide both your email address and account number in order to access any of your account information. That's great, unless you don't have your account number on hand. All over their website, they say: "Your account number can be found on the initial notice you received when you signed up or on the monthly paper statements." Well, if you do not have those with you, you can't obtain your account number using those. To get it online or using their automated customer service line, you have to have your account number to get anywhere. The only redeeming thing about E-ZPass was that when I finally figured out to get a real person on the phone, she was really nice and helped me.

On the weekend of February 1st-February 3rd, my partner and I traveled through New Jersey. I had a concussion and was sleeping in the passenger seat while my partner drove using my vehicle and E-ZPass tag. The tag was not working, apparently because my account balance had gone below threshold and the auto-refill wasn't working because my card number had changed. We started using cash lines after receiving three "Call E-ZPass" lights.
About twenty days after our trip, I received three violation notices from E-ZPass. All were for a fee of $50 in addition to the cost of the toll (for a total of approximately $163). I filled out a dispute for each of these online and paid the sum of the toll costs using my credit card. These charges were accepted amounting to $13 paid on February 23, 2013. On March 4th, I received a notice that my E-ZPass account was in danger of being revoked because my card number had not been updated. I was busy and failed to update it after this notice - admittedly this is my fault.
On March 28 I received a second notice; this read that my E-Z pass account had been revoked and that I was to pay a total of $53.24. The breakdown of the charges was as follows: Previous open balance: -$22.24; Account Revocation Fee: -$25.00; Lost Tag Fee: -$16.00; Tag Deposit Forfeited: $10.00; Final Amount Due Subject to Collection: -$53.24.
I called to dispute such extraordinary charges and was only told that I would receive $16 back after paying for returning the tags. I talked to another customer service representative who informed me that I could return the tag first and receive a $16 credit to what I owe. I opted to do this. On April 2, I received a second notice that payment for my New Jersey violations was due. I have yet to receive a response to my dispute. I called E-ZPass and talked to an extremely rude customer service representative who told me that my disputes would not have counted if I had a negative account balance at the time.
Apparently, if you have a negative account balance, you cannot dispute a ticket. She told me she would waive a fee as a one-time courtesy (and not politely either) and that I needed to give her my credit card number to pay the remaining charge of $53 for a toll that would have cost me approximately $1.40 to go through, the toll that I already sent payment for using the online system. This payment was deducted from my credit card account but wanting to be out of E-ZPass hell, I relented and paid the $53. I can't wait to wash my hands of these crooks. Can somebody who has the time and finances please sue them?

About a month ago I got a letter from EZ Pass saying they will be sending me new EZ Pass transponders. A few days later they came. I had to return the old ones. A couple of weeks later, I checked my online statement and saw there were 2 charges for $16.00. I called and was told the charges were for 2 defective returned transponders. I said they were working. The woman checked into it and said the units were damaged because I had placed Velcro on the back. I said it was needed to move to different cars and asked her to return them to me so I could remove the Velcro. She said that was not possible. I then spoke with the supervisor who said she would put in a one time request for a reconsideration of the fees.
I just got a letter back saying the reconsideration was denied. What a surprise! The letter said, The E-Z Pass Terms and Conditions you agreed to as part of your application states if a tag is reported lost, stolen, is defaced or damaged, you will be charged $23.00 for interior tags and $33.00 for exterior tags. I don't believe Velcro constitutes defacing or damage. This is simply a ripoff and cannot be challenged. Everyone should make sure their returned/exchanged transponders are clean.

I paid my 4 dollars to a live person, had 5 people to prove it but they say that it was impossible, the camera doesn't lie. Well, anyhow, they wanted $29 fine. I called the place; they said seeing as it was my first offense, send $4. So I did which I didn't want to but did.
Why do they rip you off? It ended up costing me $11 as I sent it registered mail. Oh well, it was my car in the picture. It also happened on the PA turnpike 2 years ago. I think they put the money in their pockets and charge people who don't get receipts by saying they go though without paying, which was total bs in my case. I audit our company's toll expenditures on the NYS Thruway for which we spend about $2,000 monthly. I had toll disputes dating back 4 months which went unanswered. Meanwhile, EZ Pass increases our monthly card debit and raises the threshold of reimbursement resulting in a 30% inflated value. They did not answer a registered letter. I finally sent the dispute letter in a priority mail box (a box, not an envelope) and we got the credits of over $800 in just 9 days. EZ Pass is the epitome of bad government getting in your pockets. Not only do they take your money immediately and incorrectly, they do not give it back. I am sure that the EZ Pass' incorrect readings are planned. The agent who was not only rude, threatened me, holding on to his weapon that he was going to arrest me if I say one more word. I was trying to explain to him that I can show him not only 1 but 2 emails from E-ZPass saying that they replenished on Feb 7th. He took my E-ZPass and gave me a violation form and told me to contact E-ZPass.
I don't know how these agents are trained and what they are trained to do, but this particular agent should not be holding a weapon. In my opinion, he did not act as someone who should be directly dealing with the public and treating people as criminals.
Someone at E-ZPass made a mistake and messed up my account. When I tried calling customer service, they gave me story after story just to get me off the phone, and when I went to the service center in person, the girl and the supervisor there were telling me that I had no funds in my bank account. Not only was this not true, but again I received 2 emails from them that the replenished transaction were completed successfully. They made me pay again to bring my account to positive balance and to get my E-ZPass back. I don't know what their process is, but the agent's behavior and customer service representative's behavior are unacceptable. They should not be treating customers like criminals!

Today is the last straw for me and EZ Pass. I have had an EZ Pass tag for my vehicle since 2011. Issue #1: In December 2012 and January 2013, I was mailed two violations for unpaid tolls because the EZ Pass system did not register my tag at the toll plaza, one at the GWB and one at LT. I checked my statement and in fact was not billed at the time of crossing. Now, after attempting to pay the toll due only and not the violation attached to it, my violation amount is in collection. This is unacceptable! I am now in collection for a violation that is solely the responsibility of the EZ Pass system and its faulty equipment.
Issue #2: In an attempt to add funds to my account via telephone, the curt and unfriendly representative took my debit card information and put me on hold. He returned to tell me there was a problem with his computer and he had to run my card again. "Will I be charged twice?!" I asked. "No" was his reply. Sure enough, the transaction hit my account twice. I fully understand that the money will be returned and ultimately, I will not be charged twice but due to EZ Pass' negligence and faulty equipment (again), my funds are tied up until the bank decides to release the money back to my account. I spoke with a very unhelpful supervisor at EZ Pass only to tell me, "I am sorry. What would you like me to do?"
Here's what I would like you to do, EZ Pass. Rectify your complete lack of competence within your company, put some of our continuously increasing toll money to organizing your systems and customer service better, and be accountable for your mistakes! I am a customer! This company is a monopoly and because it is controlled by government, there is no competition and therefore no accountability. I am very unhappy and feel like there is nowhere to turn. Nobody cares! Someone help!

I just spent the past hour on the phone with EZ Pass. I was the phone with the supervisor in the payments department named Jessica. Not only was she unhelpful, she gave me absolutely no options to fix the situation I was presented with. The only thing she could do was tell me that people in her organization told me the wrong thing at times and threaten me with the fact that I must pay my violations which were appealed and grated by mid next month or I would have to pay $90 for each ticket. There was no department that could review the entirety of my case and make a decision based off of it.
After listening to what multiple people said about my account and trusting that they gave me good advice, I found out that in truth, half of them never even looked at my account. Do not trust anyone working at EZ Pass. There are clearly major organizational issues. Best of luck to anyone who has to deal with them. On December 5th, 2012, I received notice of a violation enforcement action from the Port Authority of NY & NJ, because I crossed the George Washington Bridge portion tolls and my E-ZPass could not be read. After calling the E-ZPass Customer Service, and talking to one of the customer service representatives, I sent the information they asked for filling the detachable portion attached to the notice via USPS. A month later on January 5th, 2013, I received an Impending Collection/Legal Action for the same violation.
Again I called customer service and the representative asked this time to write a letter and send the detachable portion again with my tag number and again all the information. Now the total due was $62.00, $12.00 toll and $50.00 fee,. This time, I sent everything via USPS certified mail, so I know they got the mail, but because of what happened the first time, I called again and the bill was going to be sent for collection.
What is going on? The same day I crossed the Henry Hudson portion tolls and I did not have any problem. I have crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge, George Washington Bridge, Henry Hudson and I never had this kind of problems. So after talking to the customer service representative again, I found out that I don't have any vehicle in my E-ZPass account. After all this disappointment and stress, I proceeded to pay the $62.00 even knowing how unfair it is that someone is not doing the right job, either the person in charge to pick up the mail from the PO Box, the person in charge of the distribution of the mail or the people in charge of putting all the information in the system.
This matter is so disappointing. What good is it to have an E-ZPass if I can't use it? I think the E-ZPass business should have a huge investigation. Some employees are just taking the payment and not doing their job. Now I was asked to send another letter with photocopies of my vehicle title so they can add it to my account. How awful is that! I just hope I can get my $50.00 fee back.

I requested and received three new transponders, one of which does not work. So I am back to appealing violations. I have been overcharged, thankfully only about four dollars per day, consistently for months. My son told me there is a new push to get everyone into the EZ Pass system. I had declared to the family that I am returning the EZ Pass transponders and closing our account. I just had an EZ Pass nightmare, and I believe that the EZ Pass system needs to be investigated. My ex, someone I have had and do not have contact with ever again, registered an EZ Pass to my car and my license plate (which apparently is not verified against the vehicle owner's name and registration) while we were together, apparently to an unknown address (it wasn't ours) and linked it to my credit card. EZ Pass, it seems, doesn't ask for a billing address when adding a payment method, leaving it inherently open to fraud with cardholders unable to do anything about it.
I've tried to close this account three times in the past year once I realized it was still under his name, but since I'm not the owner and can't provide the address on the account since it was fraudulent, they now tell me that I can't change any information, close the account or get a refund for the money still on the account, even though it was drawn from my credit card. I spoke to someone in October though who gave me the account number after I gave proof of my credit card information who (incorrectly) told me to send the tag back with a letter asking to close it. I sent it back the next day but never got a refund.
Today, EZ Pass tells me there's nothing they can do even though the money was obviously drawn from my account only, unless I have my ex call them to close the account. So EZ Pass demands that I contact someone whose contact information I no longer have; otherwise, they keep my money. I could have kept the old tag and used up the funds already on it before sending it back if I wasn't given false information in the first place. I had purchased a new tag under my name, but I'm going to return it since I no longer trust EZ Pass. It's a system completely open to fraud on all sides and EZ Pass is the only one who benefits.

When I called E-Z Pass to find out how that could be possible since I have the commuter account, I was told that they took the money out of my commuter account each time I went to/from work because I did not call NYS E-Z Pass to tell them that I received the new E-Z Pass replacement that I requested.
When I told the agent that I did not know I was to do this, she told me that it was my responsibility to call them. I asked her how I was to know that it was my responsibility to call them when there was no paperwork with the new tag to inform me of this, and the agent I spoke with on the phone did not tell me that I was supposed to call it in when I requested a replacement tag. I called back and forth between CCU and EZPass trying to figure this out. I sent a letter to CCU asking to open an investigation for this case.
I received a letter back pretty much saying it doesn't matter, I still have to pay the amount in full or they will intercept my state tax refund. They also sent me a copy of what the debt consists of. E-ZPass sent $880.40 to CCU and CCU charged a 17% collection fee of $149.67. Now, the $880.40 was 42 tolls from April-May which amounted to $130.40. The remaining $750 are late fees! I have been back and forth between CCU and E-ZPass and they keep passing me off to each other. Out of the blue, I received a notice from the Comptroller of Maryland stating that I have an outstanding balance of $674.00. They stated they were sending my name to the IRS to have any future monies due me offset by this amount. I was completely blindsided and in total shock as I had never received a notice from the state prior to this. The notice stated that the Maryland Agency that I had incurred the amount due with was the Maryland Transportation Authority. I couldn't imagine what it was, as the only dealings I have with them are the tolls I prepay for my EZPass transponder.
I went online to review my account and found that my account had not replenished since November 2011 and that there were multiple fees on my account in the amount of $25.00 each, beginning in June, which is when the $25.00 I put on my account ran out (this shows you how much I use the tolls in 7 months; not much!). I found out that this is a returned check fee. Due to theft on my bank account in November, I had to get a new debit card. I entered the new debit card information to all bill-pay accounts including my EZPass account. Mind you, each time I review my transaction detail, it appears as though it is drawing from money I have in the account, although I will say that their statements are strange and somewhat confusing.
I suspected after receiving this notice and reviewing my account in detail that my new debit card information provided to them in November 2011 didn't take; not surprising in and of itself as their website is not user friendly at all and often has trouble processing a request, causing a person to have to start over with what they are trying to do. Anyway, what I have a problem with is that I received nothing in the mail from EZPass or the Comptroller of Maryland to warn me that there was a problem with my debit card or that there was an ongoing balance. Only when they have racked up $674.00 do I get a notice.
The other thing that I have a problem with is that they charged me a $25.00 returned check fee for every single time I was on a toll road. So for every $1 or $2 toll, I have a returned check fee of $25.00 assessed. I think this is ridiculous as they are not trying to debit my account directly each time a toll is incurred. The only debits they would attempt would be the monthly replenishment amount. My monthly replenishment amount is $25.00 (coincidentally the same amount as the fee which in previous months may have made me believe it was replenishing if I am only just glancing at the statement online; I know, stupid of me). I can see them charging a fee for every month that they couldn't directly debit my account for my replenishment amount. But a fee for every single toll? When I am unaware that there is a problem? I am just in total shock.

I am beyond annoyed with EZ Pass and the NJ Turnpike and Parkway. The Parkway tolls do not register the money placed in it more times than not and I keep getting notices of enforcement actions in the mail to pay tolls that: (1) I already paid and (2) did not register. I have even gone through the toll plaza and paid the attendee. They did not press the "paid" thing and I went through, and still got a ticket. There is no way to personally contact anyone and in spite of the many letters I have written, the only response that I got is that I have failed to pay and I have a certain amount of time to do so. I have no intention on even paying the amount of the tolls when I have already paid them when I went through them. I certainly am not paying $50 on top of that.
They can process a picture of plates going through a toll, that does not mean the toll was not paid. They cannot produce a video showing I put no money in the basket/slots. This is absurd and unethical practices of the state of NJ, as if we aren't already paying too damn much for tolls and everything else (but the increase in the toll obviously is not going toward improving the system that registers the money because they are the exact same as when I was two years old). This is unacceptable and something needs to be done about it.
I have called the (8000) auto toll number as well as the (973) 368-1425 number that is listed on the enforcement letter, to no avail. Resolution needs to be made immediately! I have no time to have to deal with license suspension and restoration fees over some stupidity that is not my fault. They refuse to fix the tolls and make them where they cannot be rigged in these urban areas where people are standing there asking you for money and you have to take time to roll down your window and put money into little slots while trying to make sure you are safe from being held up or robbed, but they can continue to send me bills for money that I do not owe them.
I am fed up and this is my first attempt outside of them to resolve this matter. I am prepared, however, to take it to whatever level is necessary to stop this insanity, be it petitions, all the way up to the supreme court. This must be stopped!

I stopped and gave the gentleman my 3 dollars and off I went. I received a letter from the EZ Pass people telling me to pay the toll or I will be fined. I paid the toll, not my fault if they do not have their information correct. Personally, this sounds like a scam and I think this needs to stop. I feel people are being charged for tolls they paid. In May, I received a Notice of Enforcement from NJ E-Z Pass stating I had not paid the toll at the Essex toll plaza and I was charged the $1.50 toll plus $50.00 fee. I looked up my account and saw that on the day stated I was not charged at the Essex plaza, but was charged for the other tolls along the Parkway as I travelled from Montclair, NJ to Eatontown. I had charges for the Union, Woodbridge and Asbury tolls. I thought it was strange that the only toll not recorded was Essex. I usually pay attention as I am passing though the toll to make sure I see the "Go Toll Paid" message on the monitor as I pass through. I was trying to contact E-Z Pass customer service but could not get through so I paid the violation and thought that maybe I did go through the toll plaza too quickly.
Today, June 7th, I received another Notice from E-Z Pass about a violation again at the Essex toll plaza on May 12th. Again, I was travelling to south Jersey and subsequently showed charges at the Union, Woodbridge and Asbury toll plazas. Now, I am angry because I believe the issue is not with my toll tag malfunctioning or my carelessness but with the toll reader at the Essex toll plaza. My brother was taking the southbound NYS Thruway and approached one of the toll plazas. He drove into a cash lane and found no one there to collect the toll. He waited, money in hand; but no one came. To avoid backing up traffic behind him, he then merely drove on. Then, I got a letter in the mail (The car is registered in my name.) requesting a "$25 fee" for evading the toll. I contacted EZ Pass to tell them the situation, and offered to pay the toll amount (but not the $25 fee, since there was no violation since the toll collector was not doing his job). They said to send in the stub at the bottom of the letter with the payment and explain what happened. I did just that, and I got another letter claiming that I have failed to respond to the other two (It was the second notice I had responded to.).
I got another letter, indicating "Final Notice" and threatening to go to a collection agency if payment was not received "within ten days." This is pure corruption. I would also like to add that this same thing had happened on a previous occasion, while I myself was driving back in October. I called EZ Pass to explain the situation. They relented and allowed me to pay the toll over the phone with a credit card (which I had no problem with, since I was also ready and willing to pay the toll the day I pulled up to the toll plaza).
This most recent time, however, they did not allow me to pay the toll over the phone but told me to respond to the letter. Of course, they conveniently "did not receive" the letter, claiming that I "failed to respond" to it. When I inquired online to find out the status of the so-called violation, I discovered that they had received the toll payment; but it said, "Amount Due: $25." Therefore, they had not acknowledged my explanation on the return stub I sent in with the toll payment.
It is extremely corrupt for an agency to allow its employees to goof off and then harass the public for money, falsely accusing people of evading a toll. I hope your organization has muscle to put these racketeers in their place (They belong in jail, if you ask me.). People just don't have that kind of money to throw away in this tight economy.

Going over my bank statements for recurring charges, I noticed that EZ Pass has charged my account $25.00 three times a month. It is set up that if it goes below $10.00, it replenishes at $25.00. Last month, I happened to go over the GW Bridge three times, and that bridge is $9.50 to $7.50, depending on peak or off-peak hours.
The toll would have cost me $28.50. If they charged me $25.00 each time to replenish, that would leave a balance of $46.50. I'm showing a balance of $10.25 in the EZ Pass statement. Since they have done this numerous times of charging me $25.00 three times a month, I should have quite a surplus. I tried to speak to customer service this morning, and all she could say was if I didn't go through the tolls, then I can dispute it. She didn't get my point. As I'm sure, most of the consumers that use EZ Pass are probably not aware of this little known fact: While EZ Pass extends these alleged discounts, what they have failed to inform the customers is that yes, they may be taking some very minor money off the tolls (very minor considering how much they are already robbing from the public), what they omitted to tell everyone is that it does not include state to state. If you have a NY tag, no discounts in NJ, and vice versa! One would think that they would have the common decency to be honest about every detail, especially when dealing with someone else's money. But then again, these tolls have gone up constantly, and we see no improvements, but a lot of fat overpaid politicians, and a bunch of blow hard, shady CEO's stuffing their pockets. I shared my EZ Pass account with a friend of mine, with the fee being deducted from my checking/debit account, until recently, when she opened her own account at my request because her toll use was becoming too expensive for me. She took the old tag off her windshield and tossed it into her briefcase figuring she'd give it back to me at some point, and placed her new tag, from her new account onto her windshield. Apparently, EZ Pass is able to read tags that are hidden in the car, because they continued to charge my account (unknown to me until $55 was surprisingly debited from my checking account), while also billing her for the exact same tolls.
I requested a refund and they said they would investigate, only to be told when I called back (10 working days later) that the charges were legitimate and they would not reimburse me, even though there is proof that these exact same tolls were also being paid for by the owner of the vehicle the tags were in. So EZ Pass has the right to double bill for tolls? The sensors are that strong that a tag somewhere hidden in a vehicle can still be read and therefore legally charged for? If the sensors are that strong, why don't we just throw our tags in the trunk instead of strategically placing them on the windshield? I don't see anywhere in their terms of agreement that they are allowed to take money twice for the same toll. I realize she should have removed the old tag from her car ASAP, but once the error was found, don't you think they would compensate? No, they don't think they need to. What a scam!

I paid it. That was January 2012. In the meantime, I moved to 3 different addresses, was ill and in the hospital, out of work on disability. I was told by EZ Pass that they sent letters, then someone else said "no, it was emailed indicating I was to set up a new payment plan right away" even though I was not using the EZ Pass. I missed any communications from them.
I have gone through all of my mail and did searches on my email. I never really wanted EZ Pass until they made it inconvenient and slow to pay with cash. So I broke down and ordered it. That said, I've been a customer for years. I pay $515.00 per week in child support, and I do pay so. Sometimes I fall behind with things like EZ Pass now and then but always catch it up. I pay the tolls, and the fines normally get waived. And I normally add $100.00 on the account.
Recently, I had a rough time financially, rougher than normal, and I did get behind for a while. This time, when I called in like always, I was told that they wish I called yesterday because they sent my account to collections yesterday. I didn't grasp the meaning of that right away and told EZ Pass that I'd call collections if they gave me the number then I'd call them back to reload my account.
To make a long story more boring, I was told by collections I'd have to pay the $25 and $50 fines. I have a daughter in college who kept driving through, racking up 26 violations. EZ Pass said since I was sent to collections, I'm no longer an EZ Pass customer and that I have to pay all those fines ($1,000.00 worth). They also said that if I don't, they will take my driver's license. Worse, I can never have EZ Pass again in the state of NJ for the rest of my life, even after the fines are paid. But I could go get it in another state.
I naively asked again, "You mean, I have to go to PA or NY to get EZ Pass to ride the parkway again?" They said, "Oh no, you can't use that in NJ either." So If I want to use EZ Pass, I have to leave the state. They claim they sent me warning letters, but I never got one. They have all my phone numbers, but I never got a call nor did I get an email of all things they want. Not to mention, the fact that I got EZ Pass in the first place, because it was inconvenient not to have it.
Now, it is downright dangerous to not have it. The tolls are unmanned, and instead of a quarter or a token, you have to dig around for 6 quarters a dime and a nickel while looking for the one or two lanes that take money. Who's idea was the life sentence? I understand I orchestrated this by falling behind, but come on, have mercy on the working man. If I don't pay support, I go to jail; but when I catch it up, they let you out! You don't pay the electric, they turn out the lights; but you pay it and they turn them back on! Only NJ would punish a guy for life for not getting their money on time!
But it gets even better. If my daughter or wife go through EZ Pass ever again, they too will receive fines for the rest of their lives, even if they apply for their own. I have to send in a copy of their registration, driver's licenses, and car title along with a letter from me requesting that EZ Pass to consider releasing their vehicles from my account and hold them harmless, as it was I alone that had the infraction and to plead that EZ Pass consider removing them from my account, so they can get their own accounts.
So to recount because I was 1 day beyond a point that EZ Pass decided to begin sending accounts to collections: My account was terminated for life, no exceptions. I had to pay over $1,000.00 in fines; if I don't pay, I'll lose my NJ driver's license. The family members on my account can never have EZ Pass again, unless I can plead a good enough case to remove the family members from my account. I received no letters, phone calls, or emails. I give up.
I love NJ; I grew up here. But they are making it hard for people to live here. I was told mechanically that "There is nothing I can do; you should have thought of that sooner." 91 days; if I called them in 90 days, everything's fine. 91 days, and it's a life sentence.

Because I was concerned for my safety, and did not know if this guy had a gun or knife, I did not open my window, and proceeded slowly past him, so I would not hit him. The Parkway knows this is true, because a containment was installed, with bars in front, to place the coins in between, to prevent these types of desperate people from taking the coins. I bet if a widespread protest against these abusive policies and practices began, it might get much more attention than mere complaints to faceless functionaries. What would happen, for example, if every single person using the toll road decided against using the EZ Pass lanes and instead, insisted on getting a written receipt for each and every time they went through a toll booth, because they did not want to be the recipient of a false claim by EZ Pass ? What if each and every EZ Pass lane was used, one car at a time, with the driver taking a cell phone picture of their car lawfully using the EZ Pass lane ? This is totally outrageous since the furthest I go is to Newark airport which is $2.65 one way and $4.30. The total they've charged me is $780 for the past two years which is absolutely ridiculous which means that they're saying that I have been to the airport 181 times in the past two years. Most I've been there is maybe 10 times, one way. So 20 times return which amounts to $86 a years and approximately $200 for the past two years. I am demanding to see all the charges. Definitely not worth keeping EZ pass. They are a bunch of crooks and run massive scams.

With the bridge tolls going up, it seems that EZ Pass is really desperate for money, so they dream up excuses to charge you money with blunders in their faulty EZ Pass system. First of all, if you are not using EZ Pass right now, cancel your account, because if you don't, they charge you $1 every single month for not using it! I cancelled a credit card and did not think anything of it that EZ Pass would continue to charge me $1 every month for not using it, so even when you do not use EZ Pass, they still try to make money from you.
Sixteen months later, I got a letter stating that my account was in collections because I owed them $16.00. I called EZ Pass and the rep told me that I "only" owed $16 and could pay it on the website. But when I went to the website, it said I owed $45.00, so right away, EZ Pass' customer service has a system that does not work with their online billing system. The website would not let me change it to $16. I called them back and they told me that I was being charged a $25 revocation fee. Okay, do the math. $41, right? Where is that extra $4 coming from?
To make matters worse, I received the same bill for $45 from their collections agency and was told in the letter that if I mail back the tag, I would get money back. Well, it has been seven weeks and no money back for the tag and when we called EZ Pass to ask where my refund for the tag was, they said, "It is up to the powers that be to decide if you get a refund," but the collection agency said I would. To add insult to injury, EZ Pass says that the collections agency has reported that I never paid the $45 and I did.
Is EZ Pass really creating fees to generate more revenue from innocent consumers or does their online billing system really have bugs where no handshaking is done? Again, if you have EZ Pass and are not using it, please cancel your account or they will continue to charge you.

I always pay cash for my travel and do not have an E-ZPass. When I went to the lane marked above as a cash lane (which also accepts E-ZPass) on the morning of November 11, 20 11, the booth was unmanned and the sign that normally indicated amount paid said, “Proceed, no toll.” After waiting for a very extended time I proceeded per the sign. I have now been twice rejected for my appeals and have no way to prove the above. I have been hit with the $50 admin fee. I don't see any reasonable way to prove that the operator of the signage mismarked it, or abandoned, or correctly marked it as a proceed anyway lane.

I got my statement they had been charging my husband $6.50 a day to cross the Delaware water gap . I called and spoke to Katrina, who advised I had to send to the manager on 11/8/11. Nothing came and I called again on 12/5/11 and spoke to David, who said Katrina had others with same problems as well and still working it. I called on 1/11/12 and spoke to Tabitha who said Kelly is off today. I can email her to pull information from the commission.
This has been ongoing for months and they charged $6.50 every day my husband went across to work, lots of my money tied up here. Who can help with all these EZPass problems. There has to be someone looking out for the customer! I want my money back.

NY EZ Pass is unethical in the way they handle their violations/penalty system. They fail to take responsibility for their own company errors. And they practice unethical and aggressive tactics in profiting from penalty fees that are not always legitimately charged to their consumers. NY EZ Pass placed a suspension on my account without prior notice, resulting in a "call service center" message display on the LCD screen when I passed the toll for several consecutive days. I called NY EZ Pass customer service on multiple occasions to inquire about the messages. I was assured each time that my account was in good standing and that I could keep using my account.
I continued using my EZ Pass every day as advised for nearly 2 weeks, not knowing that my account was suspended at the time and that I was incurring a $50 violation/administrative fee for each toll passage! When I realized the "call service center" messages weren't going away, I called EZ Pass customer service several times again. I was assured my account was in good standing. But I was finally advised for the 1st time at or around the 6th or 7th call to them that my account was suspended since 2 weeks prior, and that I’ve earned about $500 in violations/administrative fees which could only be disputed in writing.
Since then, I’ve sent multiple letters via certified USPS mail to the EZ Pass Violations Department, and followed up by calling customer service for a status on my violations. Each time I called, I was either told that my appeal was still pending, that my correspondence was not on file, and/or to check back in a few more weeks. I eventually asked to speak with a supervisor, who kindly ensured that my inquiries were acknowledged by the appropriate parties, and who eventually forwarded my inquiry to NY Port Authority (the final decision-makers). And the supervisor has recently advised me that Port Authority still wishes to refuse to waive the full amount of my violations, even though it is clear that they have been incurred through no fault of my own.
I’ve since agreed to pay and have paid all unpaid tolls that resulted from this incident. But I refuse to pay the $500 plus that has been accumulated in administrative/penalty fees, which were unrightfully imposed on me due to the company’s error and improper advice. This is not the first time that I’ve witnessed this kind of practice on the part of NY EZ Pass. And I am led to believe from my experience that the company seeks to profit from all fees imposed on their consumers regardless of fault, and at the expense of our consumer rights. I am now at a crossroads in deciding whether I should pay the fines to spare myself further aggravation and loss of valuable time, or to invest the same amount of money they're billing me into an attorney. At this point, I think it would be a better investment to hire an attorney to remind and defend my consumer right rather than to make this crooked company any richer off my dime!

I have been paying the Tolls by Cash Lane, instead of using My EZ-Pass unnecessarily. Yet I received 5 toll violations stating I'm still registering and am continuously running the toll plaza. Who would purposely run tolls twice a day knowing you're on a camera! After disputing these charges with at least three different people, they were not able to waive the administrative fees due to the fact that all of the sudden my payment got lost in the mail (even though I have the proof of my payment) after I have informed them several times.
I wanted conformation that my payments would keep my account open and in good standing. As of Today 1/6/2012, I am in collection and still am responsible for the supposed running of 5 violations. I'm sorry there's nothing we can do, is all the response I got. So I'm screwed and will have to pay for tolls which I never ran. Thank you NJ EZ-Pass for being such a great help to your customers. Rip Offs! Never again!

Because my travel was consistently up for 90 days EZ Pass raised my replenishment fee from $35 to $110 without any warning. They asked me to refer to their terms and conditions. To show they have granted themselves this right to do this. Drivers should not be responsible for paying more upfront as their travel fluctuates. EZ Pass is trying to avoid multiple service fees for credit card transactions by passing the weight on to customers via higher transactions.

The EZ Pass department is a ripoff. I didn't know that others were having the same problems as I am having with them. They put a hold on my account the day before Christmas. I had access to no money for the holiday which left me with issues. I went down to the office in Staten Island. I was told five accounts were opened by me. I am only one person; why would I need five accounts?
They took my money and said that I would receive within one week. When I didn't receive it, I called back in, and they told me that I would receive it within 7-10 business days. I called back in, looking for my money, and they told me it would take up 30 days. It took them no time to take my money, but it will take them 30 days to give it back to me. They are crooks. I do not want EZ Pass anymore. It sucks

I travel the same length of the turnpike everyday for work. I use the ticket lane because I do not have E-ZPass. I get off at Exit 15X and I go through a lane where I pay a toll collector. I received four violations that say that I did not pay the toll on four separate mornings. I called and disputed this with E-ZPass and they said that there are no toll collectors on the road that I travel and that I ran the E-ZPass lane. I am in the process of disputing with the turnpike authority in regards getting this resolved.

I received a violation from EZ Pass that stated I ran a toll at the Secaucus Exit (15X). I travel the turnpike everyday and always pay cash. I get a ticket when I get on and pay cash and hand the ticket to the toll collector when I get off. I think I would remember getting off the turnpike and not paying someone.
I called EZ Pass to dispute the violation and spoke to a person. She said I could pay the $2.60 toll now over the phone and she would waive the administrative fee, or I could dispute the violation. Either way, I would have to pay the $2.60 toll. Even if they found in my favor, I would still have to pay the $2.60. Also, I pay $3.90 each way. I don't know how they came up with $2.60.

I went through a toll booth around 11:30 on a weeknight. There was a sign posted that the booth was out of service and I would be sent a bill in the mail for the toll. When I received the bill for a $2 toll, there was a $3 service charge added to it. I sent in a $2 check for the toll and disputed the claim. I was told that the booth is an electronic payment lane and that I still have to pay the $3. I don't recall seeing an electronic payment option, but I have to wonder why there was a sign saying I would receive a bill in the mail, if that option was available. I'm being penalized 150% for following the instructions on the sign. This seems like a ploy for EZ Pass to collect more money. Also, if they aren't going to man the booth or provide a payment option, I question whether I even should've had to pay the toll at all. Isn't it their responsibility to run the booths?

Donna from Drexel Hill, you must be really naive. When the sham of a corporation EZ Pass imposes a 53% hike in cash tolls which are not affected by EZ Pass users, then you need to blame them not the poor citizens who have to be subject to such fascist conditions. I can never get an EZ Pass again even though there are tolls which are EZ Pass only. This is travel discrimination and a communistic approach by EZ Pass NJ.

I have 2 EZ Passes in my household. One on my car, and one on my wife's car. For the last 4 years, EZ Pass had my wife's car under PASI 'Commuter Plan' which was supposed to reduce our overall costs for going over Staten Island's four bridges. What they failed to mention is that if you do not cross a bridge 20 times every 35 days, there is an automatic $120 charge. My wife's car usually crosses a bridge only 4 to 5 times every 35 days on average.
I called at the end of October to complain about this issue once I read my statements. I was told I would receive a refund within a few weeks. I called back on November 9, 2011 to ask when I would be receiving the refund and for how much. I was told the refund would be $278 and it could take up to 20-21 business days from the time of complaint. In addition to this issue, my car's tag had an a an auto replenishment of $30.
E-Z Pass automatically changed this auto replenishment to $100 without my consent. The first payment was made on November 4, 2011, the next payment was taken out on November 25, 2011. I called to see how this was possible because I do not regularly go over any bridges. I was told I had used $100 worth of charges but they could not go over the charges with me. I'd have to wait for my statement.

I am not an E-ZPass customer. I am being charged a $25.00 Administration Fee for an unpaid toll, which I have since remitted. The toll was not paid because the booth was unmanned (NJ Trnpk Exit 4). It is the second time that this has occurred this year. E-ZPass says that they only issue one "courtesy dismissal" within a 12 month period. When I called to dispute it, I was told that is was simply agency policy. Am I going to have to continue to pay fees for conditions over which I have no control over?
