I've been a customer for just under 3 years and have been earning Free Electricity for most of that. I love the fact that by helping 15 of my friends and family once allows them to save each month and by helping them my Free Electricity check comes each month in the form of a tax free rebate check! Ambit has always been cheaper than CMP (Central Maine Power) so I have no worries that I'm going to pay more. It took me about two minutes to become a customer and didn't cost anything.

I've been a customer of Ambit for 18 months now. Rates are lower, and I even received a refund check at the end of the first year for the guaranteed rate they promised. I enrolled my condo association as well and we are all saving money!

It's about time that a company would not only follow through with what they say they'll do, by helping everyday people save money every single month on a bill we all HAVE to pay, but also help local food banks in my community? Ambit is amazing. There are no income guidelines to get the savings, just being in their market with an electric or natural gas account is enough. Plus the rewards points just for paying your electric bill?! Yes please! We mom saved hundreds of dollars last year, and we have ALMOST earned FREE ENERGY! Wow! I've never heard of a company that thanks me for my support by giving their service for free. Every month. Imagine it. Free Energy. No strings. The program is very clear. Follow the program and you get free electric or natural gas supply for free every month.
They don't cut corners or provide gimmicks. They want customers to WANT to be customers, rather than the competition who traps people into staying with termination fees and other fees, not to mention higher prices. Ambit also encourages all employees and customers to help with local food banks, in our own communities. Ambit Cares.

My wife and I have been customers of Ambit Energy for over 3 years and enjoyed saving money every month. We renew our plan with them every year quickly and easily. When we learned that we could pay less for a bill we had to pay and there was no change to our buying habits, it was a no brainer. It was so great that we took advantage of their customer referral program. After referring our friends to Ambit Energy we started getting our supply for free! The last twelve months we saved almost $800 in our supply cost. That money has made a huge difference for our family of five! Thank you Ambit Energy for being better than we expected!

This company stands behind their business model. They said that if I get 15 customers to join under me as a customer I would get free gas and electricity equal to the supply portion of my bill. I did and now every month I receive a tax free rebate check for my gas and one for electricity. This is awesome to get free money and I also helped some good friends save money on their utilities.

Ambit Energy helped me save a lot on my electric bill!! Best part is, as a customer, I also receive a monthly rebate check at an average of $70 per month just for referring others to this great service! The consultant who signed me up was very friendly and very helpful. The customer support staff is always super responsive and helpful. I've never felt like I'm just a number when I contact anyone at Ambit!

It's simple, I signed up for Ambit Energy, electric, as my condo is 100% electric, nothing changed except my electric bill dropped. Good enough!! I'm on my own personal budget plan and this works well as I'm able to pay more than the bill indicates to save even more through the coming Chicago winter.

I switched after years of putting up with National Grid's rate increases in RI. Great company, lower rates, no penalty to switch and I can get out and go to a lower rate in the spring without paying a penalty. Great customer service too! Why would anyone stay with National Grid and pay more? The RI Lt. Governor told the media a few weeks ago the only way to save money on your electric bill in RI is to switch out of National Grid and choose another energy provider. Ambit has no fees or penalties if I leave early too. This was simple. So glad I switched!

Ambit is a great company. I am shocked to read all these false reviews of people who are upset because they didn't get it their way. Ambit will not raise your rate without notifying you. When it's time to renew they mail you 2 letter email you and call you! Now it's up to you to be responsible and handle that! If you get placed on the 17kwh rate it's not because you "pay late". It's because you get disconnected all the time!!! And clearly most companies do not want those customers who don't pay because they run a higher risk of leaving unpaid balances. Also any company is going to charge you for a reconnection and disconnection.
You are also advised again through mail and calls of when you are due to avoid the disconnection. The letter will also provide you with the fees and will provide you with the plan that you will be switched to if you don't pay! Again, it's your responsibility to read what you get in the mail! I pay my bills on time and when I can't Ambit always works with my payment date. People just need to grow up and be responsible adults and stop blaming others for their poor actions!

I have been an Ambit customer for about 6 months now. Their rate has been lower than NIPSCO. I am happy to save a few dollars on my utility bill since I have two kids. I can only use them for natural gas and not for electricity yet. Hopefully soon the state of Indiana will let us switch our electric also! NIPSCO has high electric rates and we would love to switch our electric to Ambit also. Also, please go to Michigan, Ambit!

I have been a customer of Ambit Energy for over a year. I do receive free energy for my 15 referrals. The rates are great. Some months the are equal to our local provider but overall I have saved an average of 12%. Getting free energy makes it much more than a savings of 12%. I see complaints on the site about having to renew your plan. It is very simple. All I have to do is log into my customer account and click view my plan and change it. In fact I can change from one fixed rate to another with no termination fee (state of Indiana). My consultant also stays on top of rates, makes sure that I am getting the best possible rate. I don't think NIPSCO has ever watched my back as a customer. Consultants at Ambit Energy do watch out for their customers!

If you have not signed up with Ambit Energy, I and my husband highly recommend this free company with no contract fees and no sign up fees. 100% just great. Customer service is 99.9% and I know I can trust if they can't answer my questions, they will find someone who can... Go Ambit Energy.

I am a former customer of Ambit Energy and I would recommend them to anyone asking. Their price was reasonable and it never went up without my being advised in advance of an increase. And they always sent a notice that my contract renewal was ready so I would not be charged more than I already was charged. I was never without power for any significant amount of time and when I had a problem they fixed it promptly.
They always do what they say they will do and they are always on top of any problems you might encounter with your power. Also I can always understand what their representatives in the office are saying. I like everything about them. I do not think there is anything you could dislike about them because they are always up front about everything. There is always someone to answer the phone when you call about a problem. They are quick to respond to any problem or request that you might have or that you encounter.

The experience with Ambit Energy is just like with any other energy provider I used to have. Pretty normal and standard there. But they have superb customer service which is outstanding and that is what I like the most. Nothing else will beat that. They're very helpful and responsive. You get your problem taken care of right away and follow-up. I wish all other companies can learn from this. The one thing I dislike the company is their cost. It’s a bit higher than most of the providers in the market. I wish they can get more competitive rate in the future. Still, I would recommend this company to my friends.

They are a stable company and setting up the account was no trouble. As a utilities provider the service has been reliable. It has been consistent and comfortable. I haven't had any issues but I feel certain that I would get the response I needed if that occurred. I use gas but not as much as electricity so I almost forget it's there. I have a heater in the main bathroom that uses gas but with the milder winters we've had I seldom need to set the pilot light. But I would not like a rate hike nor to be isolated and ignored in a power outage. If I felt Ambit was backed up with callers I would be patient.

I have had Ambit Energy for several years now and have yet to experience any problems. Price seems fair and any service problems are taken care of by my main electric company. Their savings may only be a few cents difference than my regular provider but any amount helps. They even sent an extra amount to me when they discovered a discrepancy in their established discount. They have consistently saved me money on my electric bill and it is registered on my National Grid bill. Any service request is handled by National Grid, my main electric service provider.

My experience with Ambit was short lived. My husband and I were pulled in with the MLM allure of building a team and having our electric expense being paid for us. The promise of having our electric bill be lower was definitely nice and when we signed up we were given a stay at a hotel, which was also a nice benefit. Outside of that it was like any other electric supplier. We had no problems with power outages and we were told adamantly that Met-ed was to handle any and all issues like that if problems were to occur. But having to re-up with the company after a year was inconvenient and the team effort didn't feel like a team effort. We didn't feel prioritized, just customers to bolster the numbers.

We have had very reliable service at a reasonable price. The lines are maintained by Sharyland with the most competitive distribution charge. The rates were very competitive to the other providers in our area. But they recently raised our rates when our contract renewed. The discounts they offered for paperless billing were minute and I wish we could lower our rate for a longer contract. Other than that, our only lengthy outage was a major ice storm affecting all of Midland. They did their best but it was three days. Other outages have been 5-10 minutes and very few.

I have great experience with Ambit Energy! I am saving 38% over what another supplier was charging me. I was absolutely overcharged until I discovered Ambit guaranteed savings plan. And how great is it to receive a travel voucher for a 3 day hotel stay just for switching!? I also receive travel rewards points just for paying my bill. Great incentives program just for paying your bills. I have no clue why people complain about contracts because Ambit specifically states that there is no contract and no cancellation fee. And who would want to cancel the guaranteed savings plan anyways?

I'm very disappointed on the service AMBIT Energy provides to its customers. Their representative have do not care about customers period. I tried signing up for service on 7/31/2017 and through out the time every day that went by there was an excuse why the account could not be set up until 8/7/2017. They took my deposit on 8/8/2017 credit another account and it wasn't until 8/10/2017 that they credited my account. WOW more than 48 hours right. While speaking to a representative 2 or 3 times a day, they would tell me that it would be 24 to 48 hours by the time they would connect my light. ON 8/11/2017 came after 48 and no electricity was connected. When I called them they told me it would be connected until 8/15/2017.
I tell you once again DO NOT choose AMBIT as your energy provider. They are unethical and extremely incompetent to service a customer. I decided to cancel and now I will not get the deposit until 20 to 30 days. Also CESI the supervisor for AMBIT told me that the cancellation order might not go in on time, therefore if the connection takes place, I could be responsible of these charge. I called AEP and they told me that that was not true. A cancellation could be as soon as 8/14/2017. I have a feeling they will not submit cancellation today (8/11/2017 at 5:20 PM) so that they can charge me fees and not give me full $100.00 deposit. Again They are taking advantage of customers. DO NOT CHOOSE AMBIT ENERGY AS YOUR PROVIDER. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS!!

Oncor is good, on time and the worker also check on us and give updates on progress. On the other hand, Ambit Energy's customer service is not good at all. The representative is rude and not patient at all. Customer service representative need more training. I dropped them because of that. Sometime the worker don't understand what's going on. First and foremost, it's apparent these 5-Star reviews aren't real. If you have to pay for good reviews to be written... That's self explanatory. I was contacted by a "consultant" for Ambit. Everything sounded good. I chose to switch to save a small 3% over 12-months. Well... after 12-months I received a renewal letter in which I contacted my "consultant" about. He told me verbatim he would take care of it and there was nothing for me to do. Awesome.

Ambit Energy has decent plans and rates. They are quite approachable and the representatives are quite informative I would say. My overall experience was good enough. They quite often offer promotions. Their service is quick and I received it in few hours. They often call up to update. I don’t like contracting offered by them. So I decided to switch from Ambit Energy. Sometimes I received high electric bills and was not given a proper explanation. In the initial stage they were quite responsive but sometimes when my electric bill rate was high, the representative could not answer my questions. So not satisfied.

There was a $160 deposit fee that I attempted to pay online but it was rejected by the bank. Ambit could not send me an email or something to say that it never went through. When I checked again, they said that my account was disconnected. So I called to ask about what is going to happen. And they said now I have to pay $175.03 ($160 deposit + $15.03 reinstate fee or late fee something like that). And I asked if there would be any more payment. They told me this was it. Then after I made the payment, there were HIDDEN CHARGES!!! I called again to ask. They said now I have a $40.67 and later a $25 to pay for my first bill. That 40 is the reconnect fee and 25 is the return payment fee. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED and DISSATISFIED with this company. It’s been pretty good with Ambit Energy. I first heard about them in a conversation with a family friend and decided to sign up with them and so far they've been helpful and haven't given me any serious issues and I'm glad about that. I like the timeliness of responses from their main customer service unit and faculty members as well and the rate of time it takes them to get back with me on an issue and to assist me when I need them and well as their overall patience and mindfulness towards the general population of customers that they accumulate over time.
Although I was unsure of how satisfied I would be (in general) as a potential customer of their services, I can now indefinitely state that I am more than happy that I choose them as my main supplier of energy services in my residential area. Also, in the vast amount of time I've spent into researching different energy providers and companies, I can definitely state that the company Ambit Energy has been very kind, helpful, and considerate towards all of my wants and needs and I most certainly will be looking forward to continuing my membership status and enjoying the benefits and services they offer me, as a consumer.

We signed up with Ambit Energy for electric service approximately 9 1/2 years ago following the advice from a neighbor. The signup process was over the phone. It was quick and very easy! They always send up reminders when our contract is about to expire so we can renew. That way we are always sure we have the best rate possible! I'm always assured the best per kilowatt hour rate available! The door to door salespersons are always coming to our house trying to get us to switch providers. When I inform them of our current rate they are always amazed and blow them out of the water. Other's rates cannot compete!
The only thing that could be better is if Ambit gave us electric service for free! Other than that, the customer service is excellent and the people on the phone are always very courteous and polite. They have been able to answer every question I ever asked of them. Once they even told me it would be cheaper to go with a six month contract instead of a year! Also, their response time has always been extremely timely! Ambit's phone staff is always well prepared to respond to any request quickly! Overall, the best deal around!

I have been a customer for 8 months. I have now saved at least $80-$100 per month consistently on every one of my bills! I am a very satisfied customer. After reading some of these reviews I am more than sure that a lot of them are fake. The lady who said, "They would not let me out of my contract", false. When you call to verify your bill being switched over to Ambit the first thing they tell you is there is no contracts! The person who called Ambit because their electricity was turned off... FYI Ambit doesn't turn off your electricity. Your electric company does. Ambit informs you when you sign up for billing and outages to call the company directly not Ambit.
The lady who had a knock on her door and magically was switched to Ambit.... You would have to have given them your bill for them to do that, your account info name address etc so I know that review was fake as well. As many of my friends as I have referred who have signed up, no one has ever had a problem. I'm super happy. Just a few more referrals from me and I will have free energy!

I was a customer of Ambit since April - 2016: I could not be happier for choosing Ambit Energy as my supplier for Electricity and Gas. For the electric supply costs, my savings were 57%!!! Most surprising was when I also received a "Welcome" gift from the company, just for becoming a customer - voucher for a free 3 days / 2 nights hotel stay. Couple things that made me so easy to enroll with Ambit: I first read in details its service agreement, and then did an in-depth company research (in my main job, I develop and negotiate large commercial contracts within Corporate Procurement field, also with an expertise of 20+ years in "Vendor Risk Management", part of which is deep research on businesses as potential contract partners).
After the first year, I very easily completed an annual renewal - took less than 1-min through my online customer profile, so I am enjoying the savings going forward. Most importantly, the company offers "Guaranteed Savings Plan" for residential electric and gas services in my area - where the minimal savings are guaranteed in-writing. This became very attractive for many of my friends and neighbors: which is another huge advantage of the service offered by Ambit Energy - "Free Energy Program" - the ability to earn free supply of energy through the customer referral program. And one thing I know for sure: nothing on the market beats "free"!!! I would strongly recommend everyone to consider Ambit Energy as your energy supplier!

One day when we were eating dinner, two people knocked on our door. It was a strange time to get a knock and we don't have many visitors so me and my fiancé thought it was strange. He answers the door and it's two people who are dressed very unprofessional saying they're sent around by the state to make sure our utility companies aren't charging us money when they're not "supposed to". Something felt very off when he came in and told me that's what they said but he wanted to see what they had to say so he brought our bills out anyways. He said they talked amongst themselves and said "you see here? You're being charged when this should be free. Let us make a phone call and we'll let your utility company know they shouldn't be charging you." Mind you this was on our gas bill.
When he came back in and told me what they were doing I decided to Google their company and nothing was coming back so I asked him where they said they were out of and he said the lady wouldn't really give them a straight answer. I told him to go back out and tell them we are not interested because the whole thing seemed fishy to me. They're sent around by the state at 7:30 pm and dressed in jean shorts and a cheaply made business shirt, to make sure our utility company isn't charging us when it's supposed to be free? No other explanation than that, I think not. So they hang up with whoever they were talking to about our gas bill and leave.
A week later I get a letter from my ELECTRIC company saying that I have chosen to switch the Ambit Energy. I was taken aback a bit and didn't understand why I was getting this notice. Then I remembered them coming to our door the previous week. The company they said they were with was not Ambit Energy and they didn't ask to do anything with our electric bill but the only conclusion I can get is it was them trying to pull a fast one on us and switch us to a different energy provider to either save them money or for the company itself. Either way, VERY unprofessional and no company should put in for a switch if they have no written consent or if they speak to me personally first. After reading these reviews I canceled the switch in time thankfully. Don't trust these modern day scam artists!

All I want is out of my contract, and even though they know they lied to me they will not let me out of my agreement. They don't give 2 whits about what is right or fair. They've screwed up royally twice and "don't want to set a precedent" by letting me out of my contract. They are an AWFUL organization. STAY AWAY.

I first tried chatting online with a representative, which was extremely unproductive and then I called customer support. I was requesting a change in my billing cycle every month. The woman told me that they cannot change my due date because it varies every month... I went back over my previous bills with her noting that was never the case. Every month I get notified on the 15th or 16th that my bill is ready to view and due on the 5th of the next month. I was then hung up on. They refuse to work with me or even communicate now. I would not recommend them to anyone. There are competitors that are actually willing to treat you like a valued customer that have just as good rates.

Customer for over a year, 100% happy. Checked every bill and have never paid more than AEP. Ambit is only a supplier, which means the reviews stating they were disconnected due to Ambit are laughable. The incumbent will always distribute, connect/disconnect, and bill you. Ambit isn't an electric or gas company, they are an energy supplier. They can't disconnect or connect you. The only bad reviews I've seen that are truthful are the ones where people forget to renew and are then put on a variable rate. Guess what, that happens with any energy supplier! In other words, that was their own fault. Ambit sends out notifications a month in advance to renew. Basically, if you're going to write a review, please be truthful or own up to your mistakes.

They have notified us each time we have changed our rate with them through the free website they offered us as customers, and they have been extremely helpful and professional each time we have been contacted via phone. We have lowered our Ambit electric rate on 5 separate occasions. It is interesting that people cannot take the 60 seconds it takes to renew their own energy plan through Ambit but will spend 5+ minutes to write up a negative review and post it on the internet. But then I realize it is the "It's not my fault" generation. Only 397 complaints out of 1.4 million customers is a pretty good track record.

I call their customer service 3 different times and all the time get RUDE answers to my problem. Ambit offered a low price for Kwh but they don't tell customers that they make their money on overcharging the AEP charges. Somebody suggest me to call AEP a day. After finally calling to "officially" cancel the service, I explained this and they seemed to agree. Fast forward 6 months later, with no other form of contact and having moved to a completely different state, I receive a "final notice" letter saying the balance owed had tripled in late fees and they were going to put a collections agency after me. If you have any problem with any company, mine is DirecTV, however, I have learned you just keep asking for their manager until you are satisfied, and their manager etc.
I call in about a minor question that maybe I should know but they are super nice and help right away. They do not have people in customer service that you can't understand either. A big plus I think. And you have the ability to get Free electric. And as long as you keep a contract, as with most companies, all companies are in the ball park. I explained to the "sarcastic" customer service rep that that would not be necessary as I will find another provider. In addition, I had two people I referred in which I never received the "referral" bonus for that I know of. So hopefully they have not signed up so I can warn them of the poor customer service. For doing MORE business, I got hit with a punitive (and greedy) rate. This is absolutely Ambit taking advantage of customers -- just because they can. When I called, they basically offered me a 10% refund which was pathetic since their lowest renewal rate was at least 20% higher than other providers -- and their fees are higher. BUYER BEWARE. I actually called to report a power outage and then was informed that I was disconnected. There were a few additional fees to have the service reinstated. The agent that introduced me to this company promised to give me a better deal if I showed him my bill with the company I had at the moment. I didnt plan on switching but I just wanted to get him off my back. I went ahead and sent him the bill and he gave me a better price. Before anything was said and done, I asked him if there was going to be a problem switching companies and he said no there wasnt and if there was any fees, that they would take care of it. He was dead wrong. I get a call a few days later from my previous company asking to verify that I switched and if I was aware there was a fee of $300 for early termination.
I call Ambit and they were not going to take care of the termination fee of the other company. What now? Im in 2 contracts and you can figure out the rest. All Ambit can say is that the person that got me started is an independent contractor... Okay meaning they can say what they please to get you in and Ambit is not responsible for that? Exactly that! I was shocked how they were not taking responsibility for that. I spoke with the supervisor and he just kept repeating over and over about early termination fee on the contract which I was in for 5 days. Apparently, 3 days is how long you have to go back on the contract.
The only reason I no longer wanted Ambit to service me is because when I get the phone call from my previous company, I called Ambit immediately and they did not take care of the problem at all. Who wants to receive service from a company like that? Someone who you cannot trust and will not take responsibility for their people because they are independent contractors and because you dont have record of what was said between you and the agent, it cannot be taken care of? That is ridiculous! Because the agent was not trained well enough to give me the proper information now I have to pay $250 to get out of the contract. Not to mention, I called the agent when I first heard of this and he said he will take care of it all only to not hear from him ever again.
ONE THING EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW is that my previous company MATCHED the rate Ambit was giving me. So maybe everyone should at least get a quote on how much they would pay through Ambit and call their current company and try to get them to match it. It's all the same electricity, and they are all connected, the only difference is who you are paying and how much they are charging you. Another thing, customer service will not release management's contact information and they will only transfer you.

That is really your own responsibility to do that if you want to keep those cheaper rates that you signed up for. Your information to your account is always on your computer Ambit energy page. Now I can say that the company pays me more money than I ever dreamed anyone would pay me. One improvement they have made is lowering the fee to start selling their products. It used to be $429 to start an Ambit business and now it is $75. That really helped my business grow.
With regard to customers, in New York, Ambit has heard the complaints and they have changed how customers renew their contracts. If you look on their website, you can see that new customers will automatically have their 2% guaranteed savings plans renewed to a 1% guaranteed savings plan without the customer taking any action. (If you are an existing customer who switched to Ambit before today, make sure this applies to you before you assume it applies to existing customers.)
That was one of the main complaints about Ambit on this website and I really hope and pray they extend that change to other states also. At the end of two years, I have helped so many customers save a lot of money on their bills. Even if they are only saving 3-5% per month on their bill, that really adds up over time. And some have saved a lot more than 3-5%. In the process, I have been very well rewarded by Ambit. I believe it's a win/win and I believe that this makes up for the few rough edges the company has.

I have been a customer of Ambit Energy for several years and have never had an issue, have always been very happy until recently. Dec 2015, I received my National Grid bill and it was over $100 more than normal. I noticed that Ambit was charging more than half of my bill for the supply services. I called Ambit and was told that I never renewed my contract. I disputed this because the several years that I have been with Ambit I have always renewed said contract. I advised customer service that I never received any information on renewing. I advised that my address or my email have not changed in over 4 years. I was then told there is nothing that they can do besides renew my contract and my bill will go down. So in return I renewed said contract.
Jan 25, 2016 - I received my next National Grid bill that had the Ambit supplier. I was lied to by the company and my bill was now $342 for the month. Looking further into the bill, Ambit supply services was now $230 worth of that bill, over half. I called Ambit again. I tried to explain that my bill has never been over $150 and this was getting ridiculous and not affordable for a family of 5 on a very strict income. I was told I have used more electricity than normal. I then advised the rep that one great thing about National Grid bills are they give me my readings for over a year and in fact that it wasn't higher at all but actually a lot lower. I was then told, "well that's the bill and there is nothing we can do." I asked how Ambit is saving me money if my bill continues to be higher and higher. Again I was told that is what the bill is. I then at that point canceled my contract with Ambit.
I have a family of 5, an electricity only bill for $342 is not something I can afford especially when my bill is never higher than $150. I do not recommend this company to anyone, especially if they are looking to save money. Extremely upsetting to receive a bill that high and get no explanation on why from customer service.

A friend (who is also a neighbor) pitched Ambit to me, explaining that they had just started a new network marketing business with them. They said they had to fill a quota by the end of the day, so they'd appreciate it if I could make a decision ASAP. After they quoted me some rates, I said that I'd look into it. I quickly found the reviews on this site, and they couldn't have been clearer or more unambiguous. The only positive review I found came from one of their network marketers, who gets low-cost electricity for selling the product. That review was balanced by a review by another of their network marketers; they decided to terminate the relationship when they found out what was happening to the customers they had sold to.
These guys do offer a good rate for 1 year if you choose the fixed rate contract, but it's not the best rate you can find. Thereafter, there are widespread reports that unless the customer is careful to renew their contract, Ambit jacks up their electricity generation rates by substantial amounts (reports of doubling or worse were not uncommon). I also found the news reports of over 450 complaints to the New York State authorities regarding Ambit's failure to notify customers of the upcoming increase in rates if they did not renew their contracts, and other objectionable practices. There are also news reports about the litigation related to those complaints which Ambit fought and lost. The State of New York required them to pay a substantial fine.
The variable rates that Ambit charges customers after their initial contracts expire are NOT competitive; they are so much higher than their fixed rate offers that many consider them to constitute gouging. I relayed these concerns back to my neighbor, and their response was that it was the customer's responsibility to renew the contract. They implied that whatever happened after they failed to do so was the customer's problem. This flies in the face of the findings of the New York civil suit. In other words, "buyer beware". The Consumer Affairs website was instrumental in helping me do my due diligence on this potentially very expensive business relationship; I'm grateful to all the reviewers who told their stories to make others aware of the treatment that Ambit customers received, both in being overcharged for power, and when attempting to rectify the problem through Ambit's customer service.
Epilogue: I decided to stay with our current electricity generation provider, ClearView Energy; their variable rates average generally about the same as their fixed rates, depending on the season. I also checked with them about our fixed-rate contract, which is coming up for expiration. Since the current variable rate is competitive, and winter is one of the high-rate periods, I decided to wait until the spring when rates usually come down before entering into another fixed-rate contract.

I have been an Ambit customer for 6 months. I enrolled my small business (gas station) and my home after a friend (Jerry) said he could save me some money on my energy bills. Here are the facts that I can share. I just opened my electric bill for the month of December for my business in Southwestern PA. My bill comes from Duquesne Light Company (DLC) with Ambit listed as my supplier. DLCs price to compare is $0.0732 per kWh. Ambit's price is $0.0685 per kWh. I used 8211 kWhs in December. DLC would have charged me $601.05. Ambit charged me $562.45. A savings of $38.60 (a little more than 6%). Saving $38.60 each month = $463.20 yearly savings. (Sorry if I sound like your old elementary school math teacher.)
I am one of those people that trusted my friend who told me about Ambit and I never researched and found any of these reviews before I signed up. I'm glad I didn't read these pages first because I don't think I would've signed up and I probably would have been upset with Jerry for trying to scam me. I'm writing this review because one of my other friends found out that I signed up with Ambit and printed out all of these negative reviews and left them on my desk. Let me be the first to tell you that I am very happy with Ambit's service.
In Pennsylvania, we have a guaranteed savings plan. It is a 12-month plan guaranteeing that I will save at least 3% or Ambit will pay the difference. The ONLY thing I have to do is RENEW my guaranteed savings plan every 12 months. Thankfully Jerry did a really good job explaining this process. He actually made me set a reminder in my phone during the 11th month to renew. He also set a reminder in his phone to call me a week after my reminder and make sure I renewed. Jerry then informed me that Ambit will send me 2 reminder letters in the mail before my 12-month period is over. According to Jerry, I simply have to login and click renew or call customer service and tell them to renew my guaranteed savings plan. I feel like that is fair considering I will be saving $460 each year. Five minutes of my time once a year is well worth the savings.
After reading these reviews, I feel like the people that signed up whose rates went up after a year were probably not informed correctly of the process Ambit customers must follow. Just keep this information in mind as you read through the rest of these reviews. And hopefully your friend, who is trying to help you save some money, properly informs you about the renewal process.

Do not sign up for Ambit Energy!!! It is a scam... I just looked at my bill and they are charging me 2x's the cost per kW above ComEd. If you do not re-register with Ambit every 12 months, they do not drop you, they just charge you 2x's more. When you try to cancel, they need 2-3 additional months to pull out from being a customer so now you pay an elevated rate for the entire 3 months. I paid $183 more than I would have with ComEd just this month!!! Do not contract with Ambit... Do yourself a favor. The amusing part here is that they try and rope people into "selling" their service on the side and they tell you that you 'can' earn free energy. They neglect to tell you that you must pay $25 every month in order to stay an active sales rep!!! Who pays to work for a company??? Scam. The only reason Ambit gets 1 star from me on their rating is because it is required... They don't deserve even one star...

We had moved from an area that had one municipal coop company that we hated so we thought choosing Ambit was a welcome relief. Wrong. These people are thieves. We signed up for a 6 month contract with auto bill pay. I also signed up for text and email contact for billing. I went online to extend our contract and it seemed to go through so I didn't think anything of it. The first few months we didn't have issues so again we thought the money came directly out of our account. Nope. They had terminated our contract and canceled our auto pay AFTER we had already had renewed our contract. Our lights were shut off in the dead heat of the Texas summer with a bill of $750. We had two small children and I'm disabled so that's fun. We called and argued with them and they were impossible to deal with. We spoke to the sup and he worked with us as long as we agreed to extend our contract for a year. Screw it, OK.
4 hours go by and we called about getting the lights on. They swore up and down we didn't have a deal and the sup didn't exist even with a confirmation number. They had to redo the deal but it was much worse. I told them to get in gear and get it on. Again we waited. We called again and we were told by the same rude woman (who, BTW, refused to let me speak to a sup and hung up on me three times every time I asked) that we had to call Encore. Encore laughed and said no, we had to call Ambit because they hadn't gotten the order. We called again and we got the same woman. She hung up on us again. We called back and they were closed. We paid for a hotel room and ding, the lights came on at 10 pm. I was furious. I called Encore the next day and they had turned it on in lieu of Ambit and we got charged $300 for it. So, our next bill was 1500 because they never did renegotiate our contract and here we go again for 3 more months.

After renewing Ambit didn't put my apartment number after the address. I asked to send me to the automated payment system so I didn't have to pay the convenience fee. The automated system gave me a different amount due. I paid what it said I owed. This company sucks so bad. This is the second problem I've had with them. The first is they didn't turn on the lights when I moved in. They had a different date than what I told them. I moved in on March 30th & the lights were turned on April 1.

Very simply put they catch you with claiming a low rate. At no point in our 12 months did we ever see this rate. In fact they even penalized us for being late on the DUE date!! I had them remove the late charges 3 times because yes they charged us for it. Even got 3 disconnection notices for paying on time. Also who charges $3 for paying them via credit card online? We do not ever share our banking info for auto paying because of too many hacking problems. We switched over to a new company after our 12 months and now I can see the difference in a real professional and legit company. Also the amount of harassment from the guy who pitched me to switch caused me to befriend him and his family and switch churches. Ambit = cult money making scam.

I would like to introduce myself, I am a middle aged and what I like to consider educated (I have my Masters), that pays her bills on time. I like to be a savvy shopper, but I am not going to count down to every penny or drive an extra 2 miles to save money. I was introduced to your company from a colleague in 2012. She said my electric and gas would be lowered because it is a third party provider. Ok, sounds fair and I did see the savings. As an educator, I only get paid for 10 months. I do have an allotted amount saved for the summer. I would always stress in September when the electric bill came because it would be an exuberant amount due to the heat in August. I opted for PSE&Gs budget program which is a fixed amount and would recalculate in October. I called PSE&G and Ambit Energy because I was reevaluating all of my bills at the time. Ambit said that they could NOT lower my rate if I am on this plan.
Okay, fine. They also did not tell me that since I was on a variable rate I would get clobbered with paying the difference of $2,400 when I cancelled their service. What you say $2,400? Yes, I proceeded to speak with the customer serve rep. When does my account recalculate? She said it should have been August. Well it’s the end of November. She also said that you don’t want this to happen because then you will owe more. So I had to hang up. I was filled with anger and confusion. Did I miss something? I was never notified. They did not even have my correct email (it was a Gmail account) and I was told it was probably the person that signed me up email. What? You don’t even update my information and I have been your customer for 3 years?
I did receive 2 letters dated July 2, 2014 and it stated that my amount would be correctly so I would not have to pay a large accumulated amount at the end. What is large? $30? $400? $2000? I composed myself and called back and asked for a manager. Whitney was there to answer any of my questions. Why do I owe over $2000? Because you have a variable rate. Okay, you told me that in 2013 I couldn’t have the guaranteed savings rate because of the package I had with PSE&G. Nothing was mentioned about this large amount to be owed at the end. I asked her for a suggestion and said that she would sign me up for the guaranteed savings package. Can I still pay a fixed amount to PSE&G a month? NO. Ok, that doesn’t work for me as a customer. I believe I asked the same question different ways and she always came back to "I can sign you up for this plan." Oh and "you are locked in for a year."
WHAT???? You just said you are going to charge me 2K to cancel but instead we will sign you up to save money. I am not making the same mistake twice.Whitney said they are going to send me a breakdown of everything. I will wait a week before I call again. Here is the bottom line: Yes, I know that I have to pay for what I used. But telling me how much it is when I cancel is unacceptable. Where did I sign on the dotted line? All they said was that we sent you a packet at the end of the first year. Okay and you renewed it at a higher rate. In some sense I did not act (I don't remember if I got the packet or not) I would have liked to have been informed of what could happen in writing if I did stick with the variable rate what the financial repercussions would be or at least letting me know how much I accumulated. I know that PSE&G does it once a year and sends me a written letter.
Communication is the key as a company. I feel cheated and Ambit Energy had no room to sympathize. They did not admit any wrong doings and wouldn’t work with me as a customer other than offering me another product. As a consumer and a citizen of this country I will do everything in my power to resolve this issue. I refuse to be cheated.

I signed on with Ambit with fixed prices for gas and electric, which I got for the first year. Beginning with the second year unbeknownst to me the fixed rates ended and without my permission Ambit put me in a fixed "payment" plan which hid the fact that the rates I was paying were much higher than my public utility was charging at the time. Shame on me for not checking the bills more closely. After 2 years of this fixed payment plan opted out so that my billing could go to a equal payment plan through my public utility. That's when Ambit sent me my "adjustment charges" for $2400.00. The final months of gas and electric the rates were as high as 2 1/2 times the rates being charged by PSEG in NJ. All legal but in my mind unethical.

I feel foolish for letting myself get duped and scammed. It's definitely my fault for not checking into this company before I agreed to let my friend sign me up with Ambit gas supply service two years ago. My experience with Ambit is similar to most of the reviews on here. I was lead into thinking that I was helping a friend out by signing up as a customer, to not only save money for her, but also for myself. Hmmmm!!! So I didn't think much of it after that because I didn't see much of a drastic change, but was ok with saving a few bucks each month. The next year we used wood as our major source of our heating fuel, so I didn't notice the increase in the rates on our gas bill since we didn't use as many kilowatts last winter.
But last week my husband and I were invited over to a new friend's house for dessert. Little did we know that it wasn't to cultivate a friendship, but to introduce us to a great business opportunity for us "Sign up as a consultant with Ambit" and make money for retirement. I told them that we were already signed up as a customer and already had another consultant, but that didn't stop them from calling up another marketer and having to listen on the speaker phone to his spiel and pitch. They wanted us to sign up and be a part of their 'friends and family' consultants. We let them talk and told them that we would get back to them.
That was the best thing that happened to us... I was able to research and find out the truth... We let our new friends know that we weren't interested in that business, but thank you for the yummy dessert. Then I called Ambit yesterday to cancel our account. When she asked me why, I told her that my time is precious and that I didn't know that I had to contact them every year to renew to get a lower rate. I told her that I never received any paperwork or renewal notice in the mail.
She proceeded to tell me in a very nasty tone that I was signed up with a variable plan from the beginning and they don't send out renewal notices!! The funny thing is they don't have any fixed plans in Pennsylvania. (That's the whole point of their scheme, they reel you in, make money off of you and let you hang yourself). I just laughed and she gave me the confirmation number and said it would take 1 to 2 billing cycles. I laughed again and said thank you. Same script and they are taught to turn the blame back on their customers... I will be watching and waiting in January or February to make sure they are out of my life.

Ambit energy is a shady, crooked scam! Stay away from this energy supplier!!! Their rate ended up being twice as high as what I can get elsewhere. I have had Ambit Energy as my supplier for a couple of years with a 12-month guaranteed buyer pricing plan. I just received my bill and the rate for KW/h jumped from 0.917 to .1718, because I misread a letter sent to me a couple of weeks ago stating I would be moved to a variable rate instead of a fixed rate if I didn't call to tell them I was staying with the guaranteed pricing plan.
First off, I misread the letter, thinking if you do nothing, what you currently have will stay the same, unless you call them to switch to something else. Who in their right minds would switch to a variable rate knowing it would be doubled? Any other company keeps things the same, unless you tell them differently, which I assumed would be the case here.... My mistake! I called them to see about getting the lower rate. I first spoke with Gabby and was told she couldn't do anything except switch me back to a guaranteed pricing plan for 12 months, but it wouldn't start for 1-2 cycles, meaning I would pay .1718 again, making my bill overcharged $120 again.
I asked for a supervisor from the escalation dept and got Anthony who told me the same thing. Each time they put you on hold "for a few minutes to review your bill." He said the same as Gabby. I asked for his supervisor and was told she was on another line and she would call me back by the end of the business day if I gave him a contact number and was disconnected before I gave the contact number, even though he verified my home phone in the beginning of our conversation. He was also suppose to give me the rate it would have been when we were "disconnected." I got no phone call back from him, nor from any supervisor yesterday.
I called them again later in the day and spoke with Shinelle and explained I was disconnected from my earlier call and she put me through to Escalation again and this time spoke with Nedia, who told me nothing could be done about getting credit back to the current guaranteed pricing plan rate, but could be switched back to the guaranteed pricing program and it would take 1-2 cycles. She also said her supervisor would say the same thing. She told me current rate would have been 0.977 if I called to tell them I was staying with the 12-month guaranteed rate program.
Each person I spoke with had the same canned speech. It is a racket and a scam! I have never had a late bill from them or any other company ever and was a great customer. They do give you a lower rate some months than your usual supplier over the 12 month period, but then jack up your price by double when you don't renew by phone. This is how they make their money! I called to make a complaint with the NJ Board of Utilities this morning and was told nothing could be done, because they are licensed but not regulated, so they can charge whatever they want. That does not seem fair!
How can they not be answering to anyone? How can they get away with charging double? How can they get their license taken away? I switched back to JCP&L and thankfully it will only be 1 cycle before it switches back. The guy from JCP&L said if I waited another 3 days before calling, it would have been 2 cycled. Lesson well learned! Don't trust this company! They are scammers!

Unfortunately I got fooled by their introductory rate which saved me a couple of dollars every month. Once they get you, they put you in a higher pay plan (what they call variable plan) without your knowledge. I noticed my bills were getting higher than usual but I assumed it's because it's the hottest month of the year. But after 2 months of really unusually high bills I started to look at my bill more carefully and called them to see why I'm getting charged that much higher than what I would have paid with PSEG.
They claimed that they sent me something in the mail that I was supposed to fill out and send back to them to stay with their preferred plan. I got nothing from them. They refused to do anything about the extra charges. And to make it worst, they informed me that I'm stuck with them for at least one or two billing cycle until I can be switched back to PSEG. So I was stuck paying the higher rate for two more months. After all said and done, I ended up paying over $500 over what I would have been charged with PSEG. Stay away from them. They should be put out of business.

I completed an online application after speaking with a friend who referred them to me as being a good company. I called her once I completed everything and told her that they gave a connection date to be two to three days out. She stated that I needed to call them back and ask them to have it expedited as she did and that it would be on, on the same day. Well, when I called the number listed for them under Google, it was to a company that finds you an electric provider that fits your needs. Long story short, they found me a company that had better rates and that I did not have to send in a deposit.
So, Ambit was closed after 6pm central standard time and I called the following morning to cancel my request. I was told that I had to wait up to six weeks or 30 business days for the money that they took out of my account the same day. Well, as of today October 15, 2015, I have yet to receive my refund. I have spoken to several people and no one is on the same page. One stated that they are within their allotted time to refund and that I have to wait. Another told me that they would me back personally once they spoke with the accounting and never did and today I have been told that I will receive a call personally from Martha in Escalations on the 21st of next week with a new check number.
As I stated to Ambit, no one wants to admit that they dropped the ball and I am the one in the middle having to stay on the phone for thirty or plus minutes to deal with this every week. To anyone who reads this, be sure that they are the company for you before sending them any money. And now my friend who referred me to them has informed me that she received her first bill for almost $800 for over a three month period after calling them constantly asking about a bill.
Updated on 01/20/2016: I wrote about Ambit back on October 15, 2015, regarding my refund for services I never received from them. Here we are, January 20, 2016, and I have yet to receive my refund. I have spoke with numerous supervisors (Whitney, Monica, Demarcus and Latonya) just to name a few. I have voice messages from three stating that checks have been sent, cancelled and even that they are going to just put it back on my card.
When I called today and spoke with Jeffrey, he informed me that another check was cut on January 6th and mailed out on the 7th to a different address since it was not coming to my initial address. The kicker to that is, my aunt actually has service with Ambit and yet she received her renewal packet and bill... but no check. lol. Very baffling and yet no one there has a clue. I am currently holding even after I asked to speak with a supervisor for 21:35 minutes. Each call has exceeded this time frame and all they can do is throw out different "check numbers" that were previously sent and has never been received or returned.
Finally, after 6 more minutes, William answered; I asked to speak to with a Supervisor and he kept asking what was the reason for my call. I explained to him that he has my information in front of him and that I did not need his assistance and that I only need to speak with a supervisor... Wow. Explained to Mike of the Escalations department that I was told last on January 13th that the money would be placed back on my card no later than Friday, January 15, 2016.
Now, I'm being told that a check was cut on January 6th and mailed on the 7th and today is January 20th. The crazy part is that the corporate office is located Downtown Dallas where I am and I have not received my money. That means our postal system must really suck if something mailed out over two weeks ago has not come. No response... He can not explain anything. He will not let me speak with the Collections Department but if I owed them money they would be blowing me up. SMH. He stated that the initial transferring of funds back to my account was voided out (no one called) and another check was cut. I am headed downtown to see if anyone there can assist me. It's amazing what responses you get in person vs over the phone. I'll keep you updated.

For almost 2 years now I have not had to pay the supply portion of my bill. On average, my energy supply charges are about $65 a month. In the last 22 months, I have saved an average of $1430 dollars! Money right back in my pocket. I have read some of the reviews on here about Ambit and all I can say is if you aren't saving $ you aren't trying to.
In this day and age where can anyone EVER get free anything? Yet every month I get a check in the mail from Ambit. And read your annual statement from Ambit too - be a responsible consumer. When they send an annual rate renewal notice, make sure you read it. Go online and renew your rate. If you don't, you revert to a variable rate, and that's also why you aren't saving money. And furthermore, they wouldn't have any customers. Duh!
Rates went up for EVERY electric company last year. I was with Duquesne Light last year, who is the main provider in my city (Pittsburgh), and our rates went up so high everybody was complaining. Duquesne Light also has another charge on the bill separate from the actual service. How do you think they pay for such things such as billing, customer service etc.
From what I understand, lawsuits against Ambit were dismissed by the courts for that very reason. Unfortunately, the lawsuits filings still show up in searches but their dismissals do not so you have to dig deeper. Please use your head when reading these reviews. Unless they've changed things since before I became a customer, there is no fee or penalty to switch back to your former provider and as long as you renew your agreement with them they will guarantee to offer their service for less or pay you the difference. And you are notified in plenty of time before it expires.

Ambit Energy committed fraud and will do nothing about it. My consultant, Edward **, listed his email address on my profile which meant he intercepted all notices from you concerning a new plan I was entitled to. He also set up an Ambit account with his own password without my permission. I NEVER received a notice that my rates would double. I see this as fraud plain and simple. These actions should result in fraud charges against AMBIT. When I called to resolve this problem I was told that you have no control over your consultants' actions. I never heard such garbage in all my life. I would NEVER refer anyone to your company. Please keep in mind that these consultants receive a commission on the amount of money their customers pay to Ambit which tells me they can make more money every time a customer has his rates go up. This is a total scam.

They give marginal discount, then BOOM 2X and 3X bills. They do not produce energy at all but oil and coal futures. Then sell back to the utility company. NO discount and then after canceling my account they restored service again taking over my electric bill. Profits come from the scam to give to the consultants. They advertised .10kwh raw electric charges and compare it to your entire bill which includes connection fees, distribution charges, and other associated fees. How can you compare raw electric charges with a bill that has so many other charges on it. The utility company already offers the lowest possible price and when comparing .10kwh and adding the associated fees to it the utility company is cheaper. AMBIT = SCAM big time scam. And the only reason you would not think so is if you're a consultant or if you don't understand your energy bill.

Point blank, they take advantage of customer oversight and jack the rates to whatever they see fit. A very dishonest approach in my personal opinion. Point blank we saved 20 bucks over the course of 12 months, and lost 400 in 2 months. Yes I totally understand it was our oversight, I still don't agree with taking advantage of a customer this way.

A friend of mine wanted me to sign up with Ambit Energy through him. To help him out, I looked into it. I was working on setting up an account when I was hung up on. I called Ambit back immediately on April 4, 2015 to make sure that I would not be enrolled as I now wanted nothing to do with them. I later received an email about my enrollment, so I called again on April 29, 2015 to again state that I wanted nothing to do with Ambit Energy and I did not authorize an account. I just saw on the back page of my electric bill that I had an account with Ambit Energy. I am furious.
I called to tell them to drop this account immediately and that I never agreed to it. I even stated how I had called twice to tell them I did not authorize it. They said it can take 1-2 billing cycles to cancel the account that I never agreed to. They would give me any difference I overpaid. I do not want that company to have one penny. I never authorized that. I always paid directly online to my electric company. They were very sneaky about the way my "account" was handled. Everyone should avoid them.

It has been the same from the beginning up until now. However I do not plan on renewing with them when my contract is up. I recently changed jobs so my pay schedule was a little off. I called Ambit to acquire about their bill extension program. Their options sucked, excuse my language. In order to even receive an extension you have to pay %60 percent of your bill. What sense does that make? I only needed it to be extended a day. Obviously, if I am asking for an extension I do not have 60 percent of the bill. As a loyal customer I think I should have had a few more options.

Stay away from Ambit Energy. It appears when looking at their rates, they are cheaper. NOT THE CASE AT ALL. They will charge you "Customer Charge" fees and other unknown fees that increase your bill each months, which in turns makes Ambit more expensive. In addition, after having Ambit for a year, I moved to another apartment and did NOT retain Ambit. Ambit normally billed me on a monthly statement (i.e. May 22 thru June 23); however, for my last bill that Ambit should have billed me on their monthly statement was for days June 23 - July 15, BUT AMBIT chose to break off their normal monthly billing statement for June 23 thru July 15th into two separate statements for my 22 days of service.
So, I got a statement for June 23 thru July 8 for a total of 15 days, and then another statement for July 8 thru July 15. These two billings are outside of Ambit's normal billing cycle that Ambit has billed me for almost the past year. Normally, the timeframe would have all been on a monthly bill. When Ambit split my service for timeframe June 23 thru July 15th, there were DUPLICATE Oncor charges printed on both of these two statements at the same amount with the same usage dates listed as 6/23 thru 7/15. Hence, by billing me the same Oncor charges for the same timeframe on both of these statements, they were overcharging me.
I called and spoke to "Carlos" at Ambit. He admitted to me on the phone that he saw the issue, but he was NOT authorized to correct. He told me he had to reach out to another department to have corrected. I held, and held, and held, and held for over 45 minutes and he finally came back and told me AMBIT COULD NOT correct this and that I should contact Oncor. I told him on the back of my Ambit statement it said for billing disputes to contact Ambit's customer service and if unable to resolve then I could file a complaint with the Public Utility Commission of Texas. So, I did file a complaint with the Public Utility Commission for the erroneous overcharging fees on my Ambit Statement. Waiting to obtain a response.
In addition, I always paid my bill online through AMBIT's website using my checking account each month. I sometimes would pay the bill late, and was subsequently charged a minor late fee for doing so. By the way, Ambit's website had remembered my checking account info and so all I had to do was pick the payment method (my checking account number) when I paid online. On August 13th, I learned that AMBIT has withdrawn from my checking account the money billed to me on my last statement even though I filed a complaint with the commission and did NOT AUTHORIZE AMBIT TO DO SO.
AMBIT is not to be trusted! Stay away, stay away. When you try to resolve something, you will hold and hold, and will still not get anything resolved. Funny old thing, since I moved, I am now signed up with Green Mountain. I received a bill recently and my usage was slightly higher than my usage for the last 22 days with Ambit. In comparing the Green Mountain bill to Ambit's bills, by far MY GREEN MOUNTAIN BILL WAS SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER. Green Mountain quoted me charges and breakdowns before I signed up with them, and this is exactly what I was billed... no extra charges or fees like Ambit bills, and fails to disclose to you. So essentially, buyer beware when dealing with Ambit.

I called Ambit and they stated that there is a guaranteed program where they would send you a check each year to make up the difference but I declined. OK, someone needs to step in here and clarify a few things. First, let's start by saying yes, I am an Ambit Consultant. I am not by any means high up the food chain but nonetheless, I am part of this company. The only reason I am not making the money possible is sheer lack of ambition and work. You need to understand this. If you work hard at anything, there can be rewards. Work very little and be rewarded the same. From the looks of a majority of the complaints seen here, I'm willing to bet it's disgruntled consultants who never made any money yet didn't follow the instructions or made a true effort. The reason I believe this is the following statements that are repeated over and over here that just simply are outright lies. I have seen the following:
Myth: Ambit turned off my electric (due to whatever reason). Truth: There are No Ambit trucks. No Ambit technicians. No Ambit meter readers. Ambit Energy is a supplier of energy only. Your local power company (ie National Grid, NYSEG etc..) is the provider. They have trucks, technicians and meter readers. You will never see an Ambit Truck pull up to your place and turn off your service. With this in mind, you need to realize the Provider portion is separate on your bill. This is an addition to the provider bill. Myth: I was charged (insert amount here) for early termination fees. Fact: There are absolutely no contracts. No commitments. They do ask to at least try for 3 months. Cancel at any time, no questions asked.
Myth: My bill tripled after I signed up. Fact: Here is a complicated (yet actually simple) issue. Ambit Energy (at this time) offers rates that are not fixed. They are subject to the current cost of energy. When the price of energy rises across the board, everyone's bill goes up regardless who you have as a supplier. Rates (Here in NY) are available for public view 24/7 and will list all current supplier rates for smart comparison shopping. The site is the NYS Public Service Commission. Month after month, rates fluctuate. This of course does not apply to those who do in fact lock themselves into fixed rates.
These companies who offer fixed rates typically have contracts with early termination fees. (I was explained from another company why: You "Lock In" your rate at whatever the current lock in price is. The company figures out an average of what your cost would be in the life of the contract. They "Purchase" this energy ahead of time therefore they can hold the rate in for its current rate. The price goes up, they have already purchased when it was low. On the other side, and this is where they really make the money, is when rates go down - which they do - they DO NOT REDUCE the rates accordingly. You "Locked In" and will not see the rate reduction. For those who became consultants and did not receive any training, shame on the sponsor, not Ambit Energy.
Finally, I would like to say one last thing. If you are looking for a quick, fast money investment, please don't waste your time here. You have a better chance at the Stock Market Casino. Ambit Energy is a good opportunity for those who realize it takes a little effort and input. You will not be successful if you just sit and expect things to happen. Think of this in a different perspective: Look at what you do today. How many years have you been with your company or have your own business? I personally spent 27 years with a single company. I devoted more than 40 hours each week, with loyalty and integrity.
After retirement recently, I ended up with a nice watch and a pension that will bring about $2,000 a month. If I had put the same amount of energy (no pun intended here) and effort into my Ambit business, I would certainly be in a lot better position! If it takes you 3 years to build a business to be completely debt free, would it be worth it? Absolutely! I'm sure there will be quite a few angry rebuttals but I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth here.

We got into Ambit through a friend of ours. Aside from saving money on our electric bill, we didn't really gain money elsewhere, so we decided to terminate our personal business account with them, but stay on as a customer. We forgot to renew with them last month and what a surprise when we received our electric bill this week!! Our bill tripled from last month! We called Penelec first and they told us our consumption wasn't that bad, being that it is summer. She then pointed out that Ambit was now charging us almost 18 cents per kWh. Penelec charges 7 cents.
We immediately called Ambit regarding the bill and they asked if we would like to renew. My husband asked if we had to pay that outrageous bill. The representative said, "Yes," and we told her we would absolutely not renew. What a bunch of BS. We knew something was wrong, as we work 10-12 hour days and are rarely home. To have a bill that high is just ridiculous. Stay away from this company!!! I wish there was a way to fight this bill. How sad that a company would take advantage of people like that.
UPDATED ON 09/24/2015: We submitted a complaint to the BBB regarding our experience with Ambit. We got nowhere. Ambit replied that they would do a customer gesture cost analysis for electric and gas service. They stated if the analysis resulted in a refund owed to us, that they would process it right away and issue it to us. We declined that offer stating that we had NO idea what their cost analysis would show and that we wanted a refund for the difference of what we were paying vs 3x the amount they jacked our bill up to.
In the third paragraph of Ambit's letter, it states: "Should you decide not to renew or select another plan, your account will automatically convert to a default month-to-month plan at a competitive rate." The link below is an annual electricity price comparison by state. Not only is Ambit's rates NOT competitive in our state, they are not competitive in the entire country with the exception being Alaska and Hawaii. The BBB decided to close our case. We are now seeking assistance from the Attorney General's office. http://www.neo.ne.gov/statshtml/204.htm

I asked her not to keep my information. I signed up with a company offering a better rate. Meanwhile, they called my husband repeatedly for days, and when they finally got him on the line after hours tonight, they said it was just to confirm our service setup. They had all of our information. My husband was not involved in the process, and he thought it was the company we had gone with. I had already also contacted Ambit and emailed them that we had already signed up with someone else prior to this. So, by demonstrating that they had all of our information, they used this to trick my husband into confirming their service when we already have a provider. Ambit charges a $200 cancellation fee.
After reading these reports, I am convinced they will be trying to charge us the $200. Conveniently, when he tried to call Ambit back immediately, it was after hours. I've contacted both companies. Our current provider to warn them of Ambits actions, and Ambit to warn them to delete our information, not share it with others including affiliates, not contact us, and not attempt to connect service (we have not started service yet). Even though I called and emailed to inform them of the situation and my expectations only 30 minutes to an hour after their sneaky conduct was found out, I will expect they will at least attempt to bill us. If so, I have advised them both on their message and by email that I will post their actions to every applicable agency, and contact a lawyer if necessary.
In fact, I will post it anyway because it is deplorable, unconscionable conduct, and I entreat and invite them to deal equitably with their customers. My last question, since they told me they provide service for Oncor, does Oncor know or are these smaller companies just dummy companies that can rise and fall and rise under new names to allow Oncor to fleece people without incurring penalty or tarnishing their name, and which would simply fold under litigation, and fail to punish the true culprits?

The worst experience with a utility company in 20 years. Rate was as stated for the first year. Then, as I pay everything auto pay, hikes went up without me noticing (shame on me). Then another company came around, SFE (stay away from them too!) and sold me on lower rates. Once the change in service was put through Ambit charged us $954 dollars as we left. We have inquired several times as to why, they either hang up on us, refuse to talk to us, but most recently, today told my husband "we don't have a bill for you. You don't owe us anything." We asked that they call and get it straightened out with BGE who sends the bills and they said "we don't do that, we won't do that, you are on your own." We either pay this bill or get our utility shut off. Beyond pissed, at myself AND this lousy company!

I tried ambit from 2010 to 2012 and they were starting the business and were OK. In May 2013 I went back with ambit and requested, as I did the first time, budget billing. The bill increased several time during the two years I was with them, and after the second year, May 2015, I decided to try another company and the last billing with ambit was for $1,105.83. When I called customer services, they said that they revised the budget billing in December 2014 and that was why the monthly bill went up.
I told them that went up several times, and I did explained to them (customer services representative and also a supervisor) that every single company I have been in budget billing will revise the bill yearly and make the account 0 balance yearly, therefore if I owe them at the end of the year that bill will be more by a hundred dollars, or if I have a credit they will apply it then. Their response is that they do not have to revise the billing and if you cancel too bad then you pay the full balance.
I even asked them if I decided to continue with them, so I did not have to pay that amount in full, and they say that I still have to pay it and open another account with them. Certainly they do not care about any client, they do not want to keep clients, they do not look for the best interest of the client, and they do raise and raise the bill, to later state that it is your fault because you cancel the account. They also disrespect me because every time a had a question the asked me to call my local company and asked them to show me how to read the bill. The whole hour I was on the phone with them they only refer to how to read the bill and no can't do at everything I said.

Ambit has a wonderful program to save people money and I became a consultant, also. With this effort I will be able to save a lot of others money just like I have. They have an audit program that will adjust your bill if there is an error and refund any money due to you, directly back to you. Other consultants have helped their customers resolve issues in these cases. Plus, we call and ask if the customer would like to renew and ask how their energy bill is. We actually care about our customers and we are customers ourselves.

I was told they would waive the $200 disconnect fee. Once my contract was up with the other provider, I once again switched to Ambit. On my first bill, lo and behold, there was an extra $200 charge from my previous account.
I called and spoke with them and was told there was nothing they would do about it even though I had been told that it would be waived. They were rude and completely unwillingly to help. They said that they could not be held accountable for what their representative previously told me. This company is a scam and does not care about its customers. Stay away!!! My friend makes it so obvious that it is easy to make money off this to get 3 customers then I tried to cancel then my friend kept talking me into staying because wanted to be partners then I said "Ok I would try it out see if it works for me" which didn't workout.
Then I canceled my account out as a consultant & customer. Now I am asking for my refund back because you have to pay for the webpage & kit. Customer service refused to give me my refund so I am disputing it through my bank. Have to wait to 7-10 business days to fill out a claim. I think that is not right what Ambit Energy is doing not allowing enough time. Then they said if I canceled after my 3 business I would've gotten my refund back. I think they should give it 30 days at least. I think there should be a lawsuit against Ambit Energy. I hope they lose business & burn in hell.

My wife and I live in NH and started as a consultant (MC) 04/03/2014. I sign up for Ambit services as my own customer and saved just under $800.00 on my home electrical bill the 1st year. In April 2015 I put a commercial property in MA onto Ambit service. The anticipated saving will be around $1000.00 per month. I will qualified for a energy credit from Ambit which will now save me about $225.00 additional/month.
As a MC we are making a residual income. Although small it is residual and reflects the effort I have put into the business side. I have read the complaints and from my own experience even after Ambit has sent notices many of our own customers have to be reminded by us that it's time to change their plan to best available rate. So fortunately we as MC have prevented complaints from forgetful customers. FYI and for what it is worth I am business owner. This is what I know about business, not all business are perfect but Ambit from my point of view works everyday to be the best and their numbers reflect their efforts.

But also I never received a warning of any kind stating that my electric bill would be five times more when the contract ran out. I simply received a very high bill in the mail and when I called in to inquire about it, I was told that I couldn't cancel the contract and that I would get another bill just as high or higher. It was like I was being robbed without a gun and couldn't even do anything about it. But what makes it so bad when you call the customer service line and ask for a supervisor, they have no authority to help you.
Don't even bother about calling the corporate number that customer service gives you because you will only get a recording telling you that you have reached the corporate office and to leave your name and they will call you back. That's a joke because I have been waiting for days and I have left several messages and they do not call you back. I even asked for the owners or president's name of the company and his name supposedly is Jere Thompson but where is he??? I wish that there was somebody who could help the tax payers and consumers on these types of matters. Now what should have happened in a case like this is Ambit should have been willing to give an adjustment to my account seeing that I was a very good customer who always paid my bills on time and common sense would have told them that no one wants to pay a rate that is five times higher than the previous rate. I am very satisfied and the person that signed me up told me after one year I need to renew, and he also said that if the rate drops at any time, I can re-lock into that lower rate. I did get a free 3-day, 2-night hotel voucher, but I never used it. I also recently looked at my customer website and it says that I have 30,000 travel points that I can redeem at Ambitgetaway.com. When I switched, I actually still paid my bill to Ameren but the rate was lower.
I will say there's been times that I have called Ambit to ask a question, and it seemed like the wait time was way longer than it should have been. I did ask the lady that answer the phone why the hold time was so long, and she responded by saying did the call volumes had recently increased due to many new customers that had questions, and also said that they had just hired more staffing and they were training to help with the workload. Fair enough I guess, I have got the same long wait times with Ameren.
