    Ambit Energy was the electric service recommended by my apartments when I moved in, but within a few months they immediately upped my price per kWh, without letting me know, to over $.20/kWh. When I go to cancel (cancelled September 7th 2025), I take a look at my bill and it’s over $500. They charged me for a full month of September (it’s only the 16th as I’m writing this review) AND 6 days of usage for October 2025, it’s not even October yet. I am so extremely displeased with this company as a whole and to be completely honest it just seems like a huge scam. When I tried to talk to customer support about this, nothing was changed and so now I’m either forced to pay a bill that is falsified or take a hit to my credit.

    This energy company requested cancellation of my current energy company and tried to start my service with them without my permission. I had to call my current energy company to cancel everything they did. I had never heard about the company before this happened. They never contacted me, they just arbitrarily tried to change my energy supplier to their company.

    I won't ever use them again... I'm on disability and have a kid that has asthma. My bill was due and I called to try to set up an arrangement so my lights won't get disconnected. I asked if I paid a certain amount could that borrow me some time before I get disconnected because I was waiting on other funds. I was told yes and they took the payment and still disconnected then when I called back highly upset they told me 3 different prices to turn them back on plus they add other surcharges on your bill as well.... I will never refer nobody to the them and to top it off. I was a Ambit consultants and quit that as well when they wouldn't change my bill to a more affordable and because I'm disabled it hard to just jump from one company to another being on a fixed income and high deposit fees.

    I got a bill for $320 for my empty house. They said it was because of the A/c that is set at 80 degrees. I did expect to pay something but 300 is ridiculous for an empty house. Will not recommend this company to anyone.

    I was an Ambit customer from March 4, 2011 through Aug. 2, 2025. Before I could get electricity from them I was required to pay $100 refundable deposit. As long as I gave 30 days notice they said I would get my deposit refunded. I auto paid the bill for 15 years. I called 45 days in advance and gave the barely English speaking person my new mailing address. The call took over 30 minutes because I could barely understand her. After moving they continued to send me mail to my OLD ADDRESS! I called yesterday to give my new address for the FOURTH time. I couldn't understand the Rep again! After 20 mins of not resolving my issue, I asked to speak to someone who spoke better English. I was transferred to another Rep who kept repeating herself. Not ROBO.

    I kept telling her, "YOU NEED TO CORRECT MY ADDRESS because I have a $100 deposit," and that I am expecting a refund check. She said I had NO DEPOSIT. Their records online only go back to 2022! They have been bought and sold. Then they tried to tell me MAYBE my $100 was waived?! I KNOW IT WASN'T because at the time I had to hock some jewelry just to pay the $100 deposit! These people are ALL OUTSOURCED EMPLOYEES in customer service. I'm still going to fight to get my $100 back. Even if I have to get 4 ON YOUR SIDE to do it. They buy energy from ONCOR so you will be billed by 2 electric companies on your bill! This is a pyramid scheme! Do not get Ambit Energy because they will over charge you and steal your hard earned money!

    Ambit Energy is a corrupt company that makes money by scamming customers. My previous bill was for $60.31. The payment did not go through the credit card. I updated the credit card and the payment went through. On the new bill I have miscellaneous charges of electronic processing fee $2.50, return charge of $25.00 and returned payment of $60.31. So I paid the bill of $60.31 twice, plus an electronic processing fee and return charge because the credit card did not go through the first time. Corrupt prostitutes that make money on extortion fees.

    This company is horrible. I have had Ambit for exactly one year and my first bill was 200 and I was put on a deferment plan with a 1400 dollar balance and since June of 2024 my bill has been 1500 with a deferment amount of 400 or more and every month customer service tells me that I use a lot of electricity. Last month my bill was 683.00 and this month my bill is 1583 and they said I have to pay 783 otherwise my lights will be cut off. I live in a two bed apartment and don’t know what to do because they won’t work with me and they placed a switch hold on my account which is crazy. This company is a true scam. How is my bill still at a large balance? Someone please tell me what I can do!!!

    Ambit Energy is a MLM scam company. They prey on young people moving into their first apartment or home. Generally if you move into an apartment they offer you ambit energy, I had always had all bills paid apartments up to this point so I thought nothing of it. A month goes by I’m supposed to be paying 15 cent per kilowatt. My bill comes in for a 1 bedroom apartment 700 sq ft and it’s $300. Considering my girlfriend and I work we are rarely home. The ac doesn’t have fluctuations. I didn't understand why it was so high. I call them and they sign me up for a new contract. High energy usage contract. Supposedly we were gonna be paying 14 cent per kilowatt then after we reached a certain threshold it would be 12.5 cents per kilowatt.

    My bill comes down to about $230 still really high but manageable. Fast forward about 6 months. My bill is now $500. Between all the hidden fees they tack on I go check my plan on their website and it says I’m paying 18.5 cents per kilowatt. Not at all what I signed in my two year contract. They’re a scam. Not to mention if your a new renter in your first apartment, your apartment makes a commission on getting you to sign up. It’s a part of the MLM scheme that they have cooked up. Absolute scam of a company.

    I would not recommend this energy company to anyone, the billing charges are beyond ridiculous. Be prepared for additional fee charges that was not informed before signing for their service. $250 for 1 bedroom apartment, never in my years would I ever pay that much amount. The worst was having to wait 40 minutes to an hour to speak with customer service. I’ve been with 3 different energy source companies and this one, is a complete joke.

    This was my first time enrolling in an electricity plan myself, and I regret choosing Ambit Energy. I was misled into signing up for a three-year plan that turned out to be around 45% more expensive than the average rates available in the market. They recommended this plan as a good option, primarily because of a so-called “reward program” that turned out to be completely useless. I didn’t earn a single cent from it.

    When I realized my mistake and switched to a different provider, Ambit charged my credit card without permission and also hit me with a $299 early cancellation fee. Their customer service was incredibly frustrating, I had to wait a long time and speak to multiple agents just to finally get to a manager. I strongly advise anyone considering Ambit to carefully review plans from other providers before making a decision. Don't be fooled by their promotional language or rewards gimmicks. I’m just relieved I caught the mistake and switched, even though it came at a cost. Bottom line: I do not recommend Ambit Energy.

    I am speaking of my disgust with Ambit Energy and their willingness to assist. I am facing a medical emergency and I ask them to allow me an additional 2 days to pay my bill to avoid interruption of service and they refuse to honor my request. I live in Texas 108 degree heat and they basically said, "We don't care.... A medical emergency doesn't fall under a hardship so either pay the bill or go without air." I ask for just 2 days and they refuse to help. Basically, "Deal with your emergency and go without air and food. We don't care. Pay us and forego your surgery and treatment. We don't care."

    I was hung up on 3 times. No one called me back. The last person said, "Sorry. Basically you owe us so pay and have your services or don't pay us and live in scorching heat with no food and no air who cares...." Basically they didn't give a damn about my situation. They just wanted the money.... Needless to say I will be without electricity in 24 hours but my health comes first and Ambit doesn't care.

    Absolute fraud. Our bill jumped from $102 to $380 to $460 month after month with zero changes in consumption. They will always give you the runaround and tell you that your kilowatts have increased when you know they haven’t. They talk in circles and give you zero factual information. Most of the time you won’t understand a single sentence because their explanation makes no sense. We were paying over $400/month for a small one bedroom apartment. But started at $102. Shocking increase every month and they will talk your ear off at to why when it’s all false. Everyone we know feels the same way. Fraud! Any other company over this scam.

    Over the past 10 years, I’ve dealt with various electric companies, but I’ve never had an experience as disappointing as with this one. Despite living in a 600 sq ft apartment, using minimal electricity (only a fridge and a light), and only being home in the evenings to sleep, my bills never dropped below $140 over the past three months. I strongly recommend reviewing your options carefully before choosing this company.

    This company is absolutely BOGUS. I had them for a total of 10 weeks in a 627 sq foot apartment & they tried to charge me $875. I called to tell them this isn’t right and they had no answers, just told me I was using that much. They turned my electricity off the 4th week. I was in my apartment BEFORE they even sent me a bill & told me I have to pay $187 to get it turned back on. I Switched to GoodCharlie & am now paying $54/mo. This company is an absolute scam and I pray anyone who things about going with this company sees this post and looks elsewhere. I have attached proof, remember.. This is a 627 sq foot apartment. LOOK ELSEWHERE!

    They have hidden fees. They have horrible customer service. My light bill jumped up from 400 to $600-$700 and I never knew why. They kept saying that I owe backpay every time I try to pay the light bill off, but I wasn’t understanding what I owed back pay in and I don’t even have a washer or dryer. I don’t use my dishwasher and I’m at work all day and come home at night and barely watch TV and my bill is $$788. Please go to TXU Reliant any legitimate company because it’s not worth it and I stay in a small one bedroom apartment.

    Potentially the worse customer service ever. I don't know how this company stays in business.
    1. There is no email address on their website or chat function. What year is this? 1990?
    2. Their customer service phone line is clearly manned by remote people in other countries. You hear kids in the background, terrible connectivity, extremely difficult to communicate.

    3. You will spend hours, and I do mean hours, on the phone and receive no and I mean no assistance.

    Background: I have 2 accounts with Ambit. My renewals are February and April. Yesterday I received a cancelation notice on both accounts. I called customer service, but the rep could not explain what happened. So now I am waiting for my service to be discontinued.

    On February 3, 2025, my office experienced a power outage because my autopay was unexpectedly deactivated due to an issue with their billing system. My credit card remains valid and continues to process autopay transactions successfully with other companies. I contacted Ambit Energy at least five times to resolve the issue and restore power. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, I was finally transferred to a supervisor who confirmed that autopay had been set up and assured me that a reconnect form was sent to CenterPoint, with power expected to be restored within 2-4 hours. However, it ultimately took 26 hours for service to be restored. I was also promised a follow-up call, which I never received.

    Despite these assurances, an error on their end caused my payment to remain unprocessed, leading to a second power disconnection on March 6, 2025. These outages forced me to close my office early, sending employees home at my expense. This entirely preventable situation has caused significant disruption, financial loss, and unnecessary stress.

    I do not recommend at all! With my first contact for my small two bedroom townhome the highest bill was 250! Which I thought was high for the size of my townhome and I was hardly here! I was wrong, now my monthly bill has jumped from 400 to 600, I call and they’re so nonchalant at customer service and the only answer they have for me is “it’s your usage” and when I tell them literally nothing changed on my end power wise. After calling them about my bill from last month and turning everything down even more. They still say the same thing over “it’s your usage” and they make it impossible to leave. Not only do they want you to pay the insanely amount bill, but also 200 to get out the contract! I’ve had it with this company!!!! 0/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!

    My ambit bill went from 70.00 to 300.00 and when I called them they told me that my electricity probably went up because it was a scorcher summer and the AC was causing it to spike. Well I informed them my AC was broken for 4 months and I had been gone for 2 weeks with everything unplugged. I asked them to come out and read the meters with me but they never did. They actually got away with theft in my book!!!

    Ambit Energy is a legitimate scam. I have a one bedroom apartment and they charge me about $200 for power. I didn’t use and heat it ac for all of December or November and was traveling for 4 weeks in the 2 months and my bill was never below $165. Not to mention the $200 switching fee. This company should be sued.

    Ambit Energy is totally unprofessional in approach when returning the deposit amount of customer. Initally they told me the deposit amount of $260 is mandatory which customer has to pay and will be return after 12 months payment done. I had done the payment on 1st of every month without any delay and after 14th month I requested to return the deposit amount. They are playing the trick. The deposit amount cannot be return until another 12 months.

    They are not sure they can return the Deposit amount of $260. They does not have any process in place for return of customer amount. They does not have any customer id, email address where we can lodge a complaint. Customer has to call every time and speak to different customer representative. I would not recommend anyone to take the Ambit energy service. If you do then do not give any deposit and also check your monthly usage. I have strong feeling they may be applying wrong charges to customer.

    Ambit is not professional at all. Doug text me about service instead of calling me, Lisa calls repeatedly and left a scare tactic voicemail on my phone. If this is the way you all do business I’m afraid to do business with you! I will not and will not advise anyone else to. I read reviews after all the text, vm, calls and there wasn’t anything appealing about your service, so No thanks!!!! Payless Power has been my provider since 2021, so I will continue with them!     I've had them for two years, very unruly and not willing to assist. Be careful when aligning your start and end dates of service as they are RIGID. Pretty sure I'll be paying for someone else's electricity for a month after I move out. When I moved in they couldn't get my power on, (I believe it was registered in someone's name) so me and kitty were just in the cold the first day or two.

    Honestly this company is scam, make sure to look over what they sign you up for. I specifically told them I didn’t want any contracts they still signed me up for a contract and asking me to pay a $200 cancellation fee. I had to switch company they overcharge on the bills every month. Do not recommend at all and I noticed they do this to most of their customers.

    Terrible, terrible customer service. They don't answer the phones and have you on hold until you give up. Their rates are high too but are cheaper compared to other Texas energy companies. I'd rather pay more for reliability than pay less for poor service.

    Do not sign up with this company!!! They will make it impossible to cancel a service with them. I have been trying to cancel my service with them for months and every time I call, they have some excuse. Other providers can't do anything until Ambit will let you go so basically you are stuck.

    Am I able to give a 0? They have no clue what “confirmation” means. I was doing auto payments. They will proceeded to send a confirmation email with a confirmation number to then reject my payment 5 days later. Then not notify me until the day before they were going to shut off my power to let me know that the payment did not go thru. They need a dictionary.

    Never, ever, ever, EVER choose this shady electricity service provider! They are way too expensive and will quote you on plans that are much higher on your actual bill than what you were promised as a fixed rate. Horrible customer service and rude, they don’t care about their customers at all! They don’t give extensions and will not look into handling a real issue with your service or meter readings if problems arise! They are money hungry and Gid forbid you fall into any real financial struggles! They don’t and will not care! They expect you to find the money and pay regardless of your dire situation!!! They disconnect you like clockwork the morning after your bill is due beginning at 7 am!! Run far away from Ambit Energy! If you live in a small apartment your bills will be high as if you live in a 2 story house with 10 kids!!!! Choose any other service provider besides them!!!! I would rate them 0 stars if I could!!!!
