We switched to Ambit Energy several years ago and at first seemed to save money. This past winter our bills seemed extremely high. I just happened to be speaking to a National Grid representative and mentioned the amount of that month's bill and she informed me that if we were charged by their current rate my bill would have been half. I called Ambit and they stated that there is a guaranteed program where they would send you a check each year to make up the difference but I declined. To their credit I did receive a check in the mail but I would rather have a lower bill each month. My last 3 bills from National Grid have been consistently half that of what I was being charged by Ambit. They reel you in with an initial low rate but then raise their rates significantly as time goes by.

OK, someone needs to step in here and clarify a few things. First, let's start by saying yes, I am an Ambit Consultant. I am not by any means high up the food chain but nonetheless, I am part of this company. The only reason I am not making the money possible is sheer lack of ambition and work. You need to understand this. If you work hard at anything, there can be rewards. Work very little and be rewarded the same. From the looks of a majority of the complaints seen here, I'm willing to bet it's disgruntled consultants who never made any money yet didn't follow the instructions or made a true effort. The reason I believe this is the following statements that are repeated over and over here that just simply are outright lies. I have seen the following:

Myth: Ambit turned off my electric (due to whatever reason). Truth: There are No Ambit trucks. No Ambit technicians. No Ambit meter readers. Ambit Energy is a supplier of energy only. Your local power company (ie National Grid, NYSEG etc..) is the provider. They have trucks, technicians and meter readers. You will never see an Ambit Truck pull up to your place and turn off your service. With this in mind, you need to realize the Provider portion is separate on your bill. This is an addition to the provider bill. Myth: I was charged (insert amount here) for early termination fees. Fact: There are absolutely no contracts. No commitments. They do ask to at least try for 3 months. Cancel at any time, no questions asked.

Myth: My bill tripled after I signed up. Fact: Here is a complicated (yet actually simple) issue. Ambit Energy (at this time) offers rates that are not fixed. They are subject to the current cost of energy. When the price of energy rises across the board, everyone's bill goes up regardless who you have as a supplier. Rates (Here in NY) are available for public view 24/7 and will list all current supplier rates for smart comparison shopping. The site is the NYS Public Service Commission. Month after month, rates fluctuate. This of course does not apply to those who do in fact lock themselves into fixed rates.

These companies who offer fixed rates typically have contracts with early termination fees. (I was explained from another company why: You "Lock In" your rate at whatever the current lock in price is. The company figures out an average of what your cost would be in the life of the contract. They "Purchase" this energy ahead of time therefore they can hold the rate in for its current rate. The price goes up, they have already purchased when it was low. On the other side, and this is where they really make the money, is when rates go down - which they do - they DO NOT REDUCE the rates accordingly. You "Locked In" and will not see the rate reduction. For those who became consultants and did not receive any training, shame on the sponsor, not Ambit Energy.

Finally, I would like to say one last thing. If you are looking for a quick, fast money investment, please don't waste your time here. You have a better chance at the Stock Market Casino. Ambit Energy is a good opportunity for those who realize it takes a little effort and input. You will not be successful if you just sit and expect things to happen. Think of this in a different perspective: Look at what you do today. How many years have you been with your company or have your own business? I personally spent 27 years with a single company. I devoted more than 40 hours each week, with loyalty and integrity.

After retirement recently, I ended up with a nice watch and a pension that will bring about $2,000 a month. If I had put the same amount of energy (no pun intended here) and effort into my Ambit business, I would certainly be in a lot better position! If it takes you 3 years to build a business to be completely debt free, would it be worth it? Absolutely! I'm sure there will be quite a few angry rebuttals but I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth here.

Worst customer experience I've had. Never received a disconnection notice, paid bill before service was disconnected, hadn't even been a month since overdue. Overdue balance was 65, had to pay over 200(!!). To get my service reconnected, person who assisted me was rude and not courteous at all - treated me as if I was dumb. Called right away when power was shut off, they had me on hold for 40 mins and told me they wouldn't know how long it'd take to get my service back. Was without electricity a whole day while it was 102º outside. Also there was gonna be another fee from whoever went to reconnect my service. Horrible, horrible experience.

Low price, easy to go online to my customer website and renew guaranteed savings every year (I just renewed for my third year with Ambit), and I have accumulated enough travel points to go to the Bahamas just because I pay my electric bill every month. I see others on this site have had their rates go up after their first year. That's because they dropped the ball and didn't renew. Not the fault of the company. Some people just don't like to take responsibility for their own stuff. Ambit sent me two letters and an email when my renewal date was coming up. The envelope was big and pretty hard to miss. Customer perks with this company beat any other utility company out there. I've referred 11 friends who have switched to Ambit. When I refer 4 more Ambit will pay the supply portion of my bill. That plus the travel rewards have totally sold me on this company.

Ambit offers a great introductory rate but then you more than pay for your savings when the introductory rate expires. If you aren't paying attention, you can pay over triple RGE's rates (I double checked with RGE to be sure that was the case). In case you are having trouble with them, you can request an extension of the lower rate. The normal customer service person can go back 3 months, and the supervisor can go back six months. The customer service people were nice enough, but really didn't offer any discount/refund until I politely asked for one. Firmly.

We got into Ambit through a friend of ours. Aside from saving money on our electric bill, we didn't really gain money elsewhere, so we decided to terminate our personal business account with them, but stay on as a customer. We forgot to renew with them last month and what a surprise when we received our electric bill this week!! Our bill tripled from last month! We called Penelec first and they told us our consumption wasn't that bad, being that it is summer. She then pointed out that Ambit was now charging us almost 18 cents per kWh. Penelec charges 7 cents.

We immediately called Ambit regarding the bill and they asked if we would like to renew. My husband asked if we had to pay that outrageous bill. The representative said, "Yes," and we told her we would absolutely not renew. What a bunch of BS. We knew something was wrong, as we work 10-12 hour days and are rarely home. To have a bill that high is just ridiculous. Stay away from this company!!! I wish there was a way to fight this bill. How sad that a company would take advantage of people like that.

UPDATED ON 09/24/2015: We submitted a complaint to the BBB regarding our experience with Ambit. We got nowhere. Ambit replied that they would do a customer gesture cost analysis for electric and gas service. They stated if the analysis resulted in a refund owed to us, that they would process it right away and issue it to us. We declined that offer stating that we had NO idea what their cost analysis would show and that we wanted a refund for the difference of what we were paying vs 3x the amount they jacked our bill up to.

In the third paragraph of Ambit's letter, it states: "Should you decide not to renew or select another plan, your account will automatically convert to a default month-to-month plan at a competitive rate." The link below is an annual electricity price comparison by state. Not only is Ambit's rates NOT competitive in our state, they are not competitive in the entire country with the exception being Alaska and Hawaii. The BBB decided to close our case. We are now seeking assistance from the Attorney General's office. http://www.neo.ne.gov/statshtml/204.htm

I knew the only thing I had to do was renew every year, so I did. Consultants did not do a good job of informing the customer. As I read the reviews and I found that was most of the complaints I haven't worked on getting free energy, but now I think I will. You don't have to be in the business to do so. This defaulted our account by $5.00 without us ever knowing. We woke up this morning and our power was disconnected. After 3 hours on the phone, Ambit insisted it was our fault and we needed to pay a reconnection service fee, plus any past due amount. Nevertheless, we paid any past due amounts in order for us to get our services restored. Ambit did waive the reconnection fee, but all of this would've been avoided if the initial customer rep charged us the additional $5.00. And, I also concur with the other comments, Ambit is expensive over other carriers, and suckers you into contracts you can't get out of.

Fast forward to the year of 2015 when I view a DVD with the Ambit Opportunity...

I LOVE AMBIT! I signed up on the spot to become a Marketing Consultant. I then called and updated my interest in getting the %2 savings. The help line gave me all the rewards points I was not aware of earning by transferring them from my old account to my current National Grid account (totaling over 30,000 rewards points!) Ambit Energy also sent my family our 3day/2night voucher we had not previously gotten, (my guess is I got in the mail and thought it was junk mail and threw it away!)

Ambit is a company with integrity. Being with Ambit has liberated our family in that we do not feel stuck monthly as we look at our energy bill. We are meeting excellent people with the company and working to help others! I am very excited to have found this company and quite honestly it saddens me to see all the bad reviews. Communication is important. I would encourage anyone having any sort of issue to call the Customer Care line at 1(877) 282-6248. Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM CST. I talked to an Ambit representative to see what rate and deposit they could offer. It wasn't that great. I told her I was going to shop around and call back if I was choosing to join. I asked her not to keep my information. I signed up with a company offering a better rate. Meanwhile, they called my husband repeatedly for days, and when they finally got him on the line after hours tonight, they said it was just to confirm our service setup. They had all of our information. My husband was not involved in the process, and he thought it was the company we had gone with. I had already also contacted Ambit and emailed them that we had already signed up with someone else prior to this. So, by demonstrating that they had all of our information, they used this to trick my husband into confirming their service when we already have a provider. Ambit charges a $200 cancellation fee.

After reading these reports, I am convinced they will be trying to charge us the $200. Conveniently, when he tried to call Ambit back immediately, it was after hours. I've contacted both companies. Our current provider to warn them of Ambits actions, and Ambit to warn them to delete our information, not share it with others including affiliates, not contact us, and not attempt to connect service (we have not started service yet). Even though I called and emailed to inform them of the situation and my expectations only 30 minutes to an hour after their sneaky conduct was found out, I will expect they will at least attempt to bill us. If so, I have advised them both on their message and by email that I will post their actions to every applicable agency, and contact a lawyer if necessary.

In fact, I will post it anyway because it is deplorable, unconscionable conduct, and I entreat and invite them to deal equitably with their customers. My last question, since they told me they provide service for Oncor, does Oncor know or are these smaller companies just dummy companies that can rise and fall and rise under new names to allow Oncor to fleece people without incurring penalty or tarnishing their name, and which would simply fold under litigation, and fail to punish the true culprits?

The bill increased several time during the two years I was with them, and after the second year, May 2015, I decided to try another company and the last billing with ambit was for $1,105.83. When I called customer services, they said that they revised the budget billing in December 2014 and that was why the monthly bill went up.

I told them that went up several times, and I did explained to them (customer services representative and also a supervisor) that every single company I have been in budget billing will revise the bill yearly and make the account 0 balance yearly, therefore if I owe them at the end of the year that bill will be more by a hundred dollars, or if I have a credit they will apply it then. Their response is that they do not have to revise the billing and if you cancel too bad then you pay the full balance.

I even asked them if I decided to continue with them, so I did not have to pay that amount in full, and they say that I still have to pay it and open another account with them. Certainly they do not care about any client, they do not want to keep clients, they do not look for the best interest of the client, and they do raise and raise the bill, to later state that it is your fault because you cancel the account. They also disrespect me because every time a had a question the asked me to call my local company and asked them to show me how to read the bill. The whole hour I was on the phone with them they only refer to how to read the bill and no can't do at everything I said.

I will qualified for a energy credit from Ambit which will now save me about $225.00 additional/month.

As a MC we are making a residual income. Although small it is residual and reflects the effort I have put into the business side. I have read the complaints and from my own experience even after Ambit has sent notices many of our own customers have to be reminded by us that it's time to change their plan to best available rate. So fortunately we as MC have prevented complaints from forgetful customers. FYI and for what it is worth I am business owner. This is what I know about business, not all business are perfect but Ambit from my point of view works everyday to be the best and their numbers reflect their efforts.

A year later I called on the month my contract was to expire, and I was told that I no longer needed contract and I could cancel at any time. A month ago I decided to go with wind power and cancel my service. I received my bill for April, and I was shocked to see that my bill 895.00. The month before my bill was 430.00, so I called Ambit today. I was told that I owed them 585.00 for a budget settlement. I explained that never signed up for budget billing, and I was told that in 2012 I checked the box for budget billing. Even though my contract expired in 2013 they claimed I was still under budget billing. My bills fluctuated every month, and I was never given a set amount to pay every month they insisted that I was on a budget plan. I argue that most months I had a credit and how could I owe them money.

We were told and promised that in 3 years we would save money using Ambit, because once they were in an area that long, they could lower the rates. That never happened, and as a matter of fact our rates almost doubled over the same period. We also received a bill saying they needed to make rate adjustments in the middle of the "contract". We made the decision to stop with them. We estimate that we paid $1500 more using this service over the 4 year span... Watch out... seems like a utility pyramid scheme.

I let things continue without paying close attention to my monthly charges, until my electric bill got too high for me to ignore. When I called questioning the exorbitant amount, I was told it was because Ambit was charging me 15 cents per kw hour MORE than what my electric company would!

When I called to cancel service with Ambit, I was informed that I had been put on a variable rate plan and taken off the fixed rate plan without any notification. I told the customer service rep to cancel the account, but two weeks later, I found out that although they had notified the electric company of the cancelation, they did not notify the gas company. Well what started off to be a good decision to use Ambit as my electric supplier became a living nightmare and I am still being haunted with a unbelievable super high electric bill. First of all I was never told that the contract had to be renewed every year to receive the lower energy charge. But also I never received a warning of any kind stating that my electric bill would be five times more when the contract ran out. I simply received a very high bill in the mail and when I called in to inquire about it, I was told that I couldn't cancel the contract and that I would get another bill just as high or higher. It was like I was being robbed without a gun and couldn't even do anything about it. But what makes it so bad when you call the customer service line and ask for a supervisor, they have no authority to help you.

Don't even bother about calling the corporate number that customer service gives you because you will only get a recording telling you that you have reached the corporate office and to leave your name and they will call you back. That's a joke because I have been waiting for days and I have left several messages and they do not call you back. I even asked for the owners or president's name of the company and his name supposedly is Jere Thompson but where is he??? I wish that there was somebody who could help the tax payers and consumers on these types of matters. Now what should have happened in a case like this is Ambit should have been willing to give an adjustment to my account seeing that I was a very good customer who always paid my bills on time and common sense would have told them that no one wants to pay a rate that is five times higher than the previous rate. I am very satisfied and the person that signed me up told me after one year I need to renew, and he also said that if the rate drops at any time, I can re-lock into that lower rate. I did get a free 3-day, 2-night hotel voucher, but I never used it. I also recently looked at my customer website and it says that I have 30,000 travel points that I can redeem at Ambitgetaway.com. When I switched, I actually still paid my bill to Ameren but the rate was lower.

I will say there's been times that I have called Ambit to ask a question, and it seemed like the wait time was way longer than it should have been. I did ask the lady that answer the phone why the hold time was so long, and she responded by saying did the call volumes had recently increased due to many new customers that had questions, and also said that they had just hired more staffing and they were training to help with the workload. Fair enough I guess, I have got the same long wait times with Ameren. But the biggest difference for me was saving $26 dollars a month in getting the travel rewards similar to the credit card systems that I am already familiar with. Overall I am very satisfied.

Nicor advised that our bill for Jan. should have been $210 (saving their email) and Ambit charged us $536. I called and said the letter was sent, I didn't extent - I NEVER GOT THE LETTER. It's a scam. Tried to negotiate with them lowering the rate, giving me some credit, and they are unwilling to work with you. Finally told them, just cancel the service... they said it will take at least 2 billing cycles. Well, I called Nicor and they said their service will starts on the same day! No longer dealing with Ambit, but I am going to write to BBB asking for a refund in difference for that one month in the amount of over $300. I could go through all the bills since the spike in rate... but I'll be happy to get $300 back.

MOST people are clueless to know they have to renew their plan every year or else they will be spending more. The going therm rate is 0.40 right now. WE WERE PAYING 0.9289 so, each month was way over the going rate!!!! And our electric as well so over the last THREE YEARS, we potentially paid $3,000 MORE than we COULD have paid with another company. Extra melt ticked off as Ambit NEVER CALLED US to inform us of this high price, so.... they just sit back and collect on this Outrageous and no integrity!!! AND VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. They will do NOTHING in terms of any reimbursement nor do they care about the bad press they may get.

My ex-wife, fortunately was willing to cooperate but she had to wait on hold for an hour before speaking with someone only to be told that she would have to fill out a form that they would mail to her. Once the 12 months were up, Ambit emailed me in plenty of time to renew onto another 12 month product. I am not saving a ton of money, but I am saving about $20 a month on a $180 monthly bill. I have accumulated numerous travel points, and feel very good about the service I am being provided. All it takes to renew is 3 minutes by phone or email. Ambit has over 1 million satisfied customers - seems a shame that a small percentage that overlooked their renewal have blown this out of proportion. Yes, we're talking of how you learn about the business and the value plan. Their person (consultant) wants to show you this company's outlook too. It's Ambit's and consultant's duty to provide exceptional experience for their customers. Customers that review the information and choose to be on a value plan are helping the consultant in forming their own business. Customers have a website to review, renew, and cancel this energy supplier. Not one person seem to mention that joining this energy supplier you have had registered and logged in your own customer site. Let alone review it from time to time and anytime.

Yes, you get a letter a month out before your anniversary to renew plan. You receive a rebate check for the difference of your incumbent's yearly cost. You can enroll that rebate check to the next annual of sign up. What I see most is why people are forgetting why they signed up. They're helping that person (consultant) in building trust with you as a customer.

Staying on the savings plan is a 12 month plan. Take a look at your customer website, or register your customer number, firstly and foremost. You as a customer, can refer people's that you know to value of the energy program right on the (your) customer website. Earn energy credits and they could do the same. Establish a relationship with your new energy provider and learn ways to save. Not only an energy supplier but your incumbent (delivery) for ways to save. And that information is always available as well. If you feel the annual sign up is a nuisance you're entitled. Just make sure you review your information for 3 seconds of assurance.

They said they sent it to all customers 2 YEARS AGO!!! The only reason any of this caught my attention was when I reviewed my December 2014 statement for payment in January that I flipped out at a bill for over $630 where my bills usually run well below half that amount for a typical winter month here in upstate New York.

I called, complained and called and complained again to no satisfaction and they were not willing to help me in any way. I cancelled them as my ESCO immediately. Told it would take one or more billing cycles for them to be removed. The January statement/bill was excessive as well. Then I just received the February statement and I flipped out again with charges over $530. These are just the supply charges which are running almost triple to those of just electric delivery.

To sum it all up, for 12/2014, 01/2015 and 02/2015 (3 months) my electric delivery with NYSEG was $253.18 and my electric supply with AMBIT was $1291.49!!! This is a crime and price gouging at its highest form. They have no one who can help and only people who can repeat a script. When I asked for the basis for the arbitrary increase, they could send me nothing, there was no one who could talk to me to explain, and there was no web site that could confirm a rational basis. Clearly over 70% higher than they usually charge and that much more than the "monopoly" PSEG charges has no basis in the claim to be "going to market rate". Instead of automatically placing me into their new replacement plan (the PA Guaranteed Savings Plan) as one would expect, they placed me into an "alternate" plan with rates that were 80% higher than the normal utility (PECO). They say they did this because they sent me paperwork where I had to ELECT to be in the cheaper replacement plan that I didn't return. #1, I never received any such paperwork. #2, why would I have to elect to be placed into the replacement plan when THEY are the ones who terminated their prior plan? #3, how is it possibly reasonable or legal that their "default" plan for not electing the replacement plan would be a plan with 80% higher rates?

#4, why would I be placed in ANY plan of theirs if they didn't receive my election - if they require an affirmative election and don't have one, then the LAW should require them to revert me back to the incumbent provider (PECO)!! WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWER: It is very clear they engineered this for the sole purpose of ripping people off thousands of dollars until they happened to notice. In my case, they've stolen $1,200 from me vs. what I would have been charged by PECO. This is why there are 2 class action lawsuits against them (NJ & NY). I am in the process of finding out if I can join those or if PA residents who have been ripped off must start one in PA. If anyone knows, please let me know.

I got a "nasty note" from National Grid about my budget amount going up, over $100.

After looking into a few bills this is what I've come up with so far: My November 2014 bill was $637, same time last year was $376. My December 2014 bill is $823 vs. the same time last year at $470. That's over $600 and I've only looked at 2 months. I called National Grid (forgetting that Ambit was my supplier) and they told me the rates for today, Feb. 12, 2015. Electric at Ambit was nearly 3xs more (.17 vs .065/ kwh), gas was over double (.93 vs .41/ therms). Called Ambit and after nearly 30 minutes on hold was told "Sorry but we sent you a letter several months ago that your contract had expired and you didn't call to renew so you are now paying market rates."

Am I really suppose to believe that they are charging market rates - 2.5 times more than "National Greed"? Ambit said there was nothing they could do and that I cannot switch back to National Grid for another month. So I have to allow them to extort me for another month? And I haven't received January's bill yet - which is always the highest. I predict it will be over $900.

Unfortunately, some consultants don't take the time to educate their customers on the renewal. They're usually the ones who quit after a month. If anyone wants the rest of the year bill comparisons, I would be happy to email them to you!!

I have been an Ambit customer since January of 2013. Here in California, there is only an option for natural gas. At first, I was saving 14 percent on my natural gas bill. Recently, I am still saving over 2 percent. Ambit says they'll never charge their customers additional fees, and I believe that because I have been a customer for over two years without being charged a penny over what I should already be charged from my local service provider. I don't know what the cases are over in the east coast, but I decided to see what the common denominator of this webpage is that represents such horrible service from Ambit. I noticed how many advertisements link to websites of energy providers, who obviously endorse this page. I'm not a rocket scientist, but do with that what you will.

I signed on for Ambit Energy at my business and my home because my son was "selling" the energy and told me what a great deal it was. For the first 18 months it was OK but then my bills started going up and this month I was charged 3X what I usually pay for electric at my business. I called Ambit and was told the same story as I have read above - that they sent a letter to renew the plan. I never received a letter or any other correspondence the whole time I have been with them. I should never have fallen for a company that uses a "get rich quick" scheme to sell its product. If there is a lawsuit happening, count me in.

I don't understand the negatives I've read about Ambit Energy. I've had them as my gas supplier now for over three years and have been completely satisfied. I have been on a guaranteed minimum of 2% yearly savings and the plan has been honored each year. As a customer I do have the responsibility to renew the 2% savings guarantee each year when I receive notice from Ambit but it's well worth the 5 minutes. I think most people neglect or forget to do this and then complain about their rates changing as a result. They even provide a personal website I can track my usage and fees and find suggestions on how to be more energy efficient. Also, contrary to what I read in one of the comments, there is no fee or penalty for discontinuing their service at any time.... at least not in New York!

Until I experience differently I would highly recommend Ambit.

The only reason they get 1 star is because I couldn't give zero stars! The same thing that happened to many of the others here happened to me. My Guaranteed Savings Plan expired in July 2014. They CLAIM they mailed me a notice but I never saw it. They directed me to my Ambit account online (which I never go to because I always use my distributor's account) where there was a message notifying me of the expiration. After the expiration date they started charging me over $1.00 a therm which is more than 2X the current market rate.

I didn't notice it until I saw my January bill which was $428, DOUBLE what my January bill was last year. I told them I wanted to go back to the Guaranteed Savings Plan immediately, but I will have to wait for at least another billing cycle or two. SO I will be getting raped by them for at least another month, maybe two. As soon as I am done attempting to get a refund I will cancel for sure. I will never trust another outside supplier again. Whether someone tries to con you into convincing your friends and relatives to switch to Ambit OR tries to con you into savings on gas and electric... you will be sorry if you switch. This is FACT. ESCO's are non-regulated. Meaning they give you this great rate for x amount of months, then without notice, switch you to a DISGUSTINGLY HIGH non regulated rate where you will lose all the money you have saved and more. Don't do it. Stick with NYSEG, CON-ED, etc. They will always give you the lowest rate possible. THEY ARE REGULATED so you do not have to monitor them every month to see if you were suddenly switched to a non regulated scam per KWH rate like AMBIT.

I diligently respond but family members ditch the mail as "junk mail" and were reverted to "variable".

Did their bill increase? Yes.. Was it Ambit's fault? NO... Did we NOT just have one of the coldest winters last year? Are all of the "providers" of utilities trying to recoup from "OUR" usage? YES! In my area National Grid "froze their rates" but ADDED on an extra FEE to RECOUP... So were their fees really lowered? NO! Every Ambit customer is given a FREE Website to track their usage, renew their plan and compare rates. How many of you complainers have done this? How many of you "renewed" to the "guaranteed savings"?

What's up with this.

I have put forth this question to Ambit but from what I'm reading from all other complaints that you have to renew every year. Who the hell knew. They claim they have sent a letter out, never got it. I'm looking into this and see if it's legal. Then I'm looking into a class action lawsuit. Now I read that "This Agreement shall automatically renew for successive one (1) month periods unless either party notifies the other party in writing of its desire not to renew.” Seems simple enough so why did they throw me into a what "variable" rate.

At first I was skeptical. I Googled "Ambit" and there was a lot of conflicting information. I did find out that they had an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (the highest rating), they have been in business for 8 years now, JD Power and Associates ranked them #1 in customer satisfaction for New York in 2013, and that they were a direct selling/direct sales company (similar to Tupperware, Advocare, Avon, Arbonne, Thirty-One, Isagenix, etc.- which is why some refer to it as a "Pyramid Scheme" when in reality, is multi-level marketing), and the Direct Selling News ranked them #12 worldwide (Amway, Avon, Herbalife, Vorwerk, Mary Kay, Natura, Nu Skin, Tupperware, Belcorp, Oriflame, and Primerica were ahead of them form the 2013 list).

It was free to switch over at the recommendation of a family member. The first year I saved only $8.63, not much, but every little bit helps. The only "catch" if you will, is that you have to sign-up for the savings plan again each year (part of the rules of New York State imposed to prevent companies from forming contracts that lock you in). I did as requested (I received a letter and several emails telling me that my year was up and all I had to do was log on to my account or call Ambit Energy to renew my savings plan).

The following year, the savings went from 1.47% to 2% and I saved $11.67! I have had no issues with any power outages and NYSEG is still my provider and I do not get an extra electric bill. The only difference is the name on my supplier portion of my NYSEG bill, went from NYSEG to Ambit (on Page 5). Same old bill from NYSEG, only a little bit cheaper! Thank you!!! I was happy with the service for 2+ years now and so I referred several friends and family members to switch (all for free) and now I receive an energy credit each month on my NYSEG bill that ranges from about $35.00 - $55.00! I'm now saving about $1,200.00 per year between the energy credits on my National Fuel natural gas bill and NYSEG electric bill. ALL FOR FREE!
