There are hidden fees included and the customer service can't provide you with any legal document for the extra charge, I'd scheduled 8/30/2021 to stop my service forever. Copied this from my bill> Current miscellaneous adjustments: $ 62.47. Please don't let this company scams you too.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Horrendous customer service. I've been trying to be patient but I've been trying to correct an issue since July 1, and it is August 18. They continuously give you the run-around which diminishes patience after 2 months. I was supposed to move into an apartment but my complex moved me to a different unit. So that same day, I called and asked if I could move my service to the new unit. They happily said yes and that no additional fees would apply. But then, I received voicemails from them saying I owed fees. One of their managers contacted me and said to disregard those notices because I should not be charged that and an "investigation" would be opened.

Later, they called saying someone else moved in that apt so that's why the investigation closed, pay the fees. I do not have control over who moves into that other unit! Then another representative tried telling me the fees were because I left Ambit. I still have them in my new unit, they can check their records. They even had me email some customer service place that never responded back. They kept saying we'll open a new investigation but nothing comes of them. I finally gave in and paid the fees today, for an apartment I never lived at, because I will not let them ruin my credit but it was extortion. I just wanted to warn future customers to find a better company!! I wish I had.

I have been with Ambit for years on and off when they are available in my area. At the end of my last contract I didn’t renew because I was looking to move and didn’t know what area. My house is only 1,200 sqft and I do not keep it down in the 60’s. My bills have been outrageous, far more than I have ever paid in my life. I’m using 1000-1200 kWh and my last 2 bills have been over $200 a month. I enrolled with another provider and Ambit called me asking what they could do to keep me! I laughed and said nothing and explained the reason, the rep said if I ever changed my mind give them a call! Well, I’ll tell you NOT a chance in HELL. My last bill was almost $300! Are you out of your fricken mind! Stay clear of this company!

Updated on 03/22/2022: First off Ambit energy misled me about how much i would be paying. Then when I called and cancelled they said it was effective within 1-2 billing cycles. 2 cycles went by....still not cancelled. I called them and cancelled again.. 2 months later I get a bill for double the price /kw hr. of previous bill still with Ambit. I have concluded that this is most likely a type of scheme they have To string customers along because there is apparently nothing I can do about it except get a lawyer involved. Being a business owner myself, it burns me up when I see a company operating in a dishonest way.

Original: I decided to save some $ so I saw that Ambit had a plan to get commercial electric supply rate at .0295 kw. So when I called to sign up they told me that the rate I saw on the NYSEG website was only for the first month... OK... so that price was falsely advertised. But I still signed up. I have documentation on this. First bill came in the mail .065/kw. I called and they said I have to call the electric company. Called the electric company and they said I have to call Ambit. I feel this was just a ploy to get me to switch. No accountability, no one gives a crap at Ambit or Nyseg, they just pawn you off to another phone operator.

Ambit had a technological glitch in January that caused them to delete our auto payment information. They did not try to reach out to us about this (except one phone call with no voicemail), or fix the issue on their side. After one month they shut off our power due to lack of payment. When we called it took them 4 hours to turn it back on. We tried to complain, and the service representative spoke from a script, could not help us or offer us any compensation except to reimburse the late fees, which were their fault to begin with.

Eventually, they offered us a credit on our account, but could not tell us that they would take this complaint seriously, or had any plans to keep this from happening in the future. This company does not seem to care about the customer, and only wants to squeeze as much money out of us as they can. We are switching companies as soon as our contract is up (It also has a $200 late fee).

Ambit Energy is my electric provider for my office building. I recently received the latest statement that said my payment was late. I had set it up on autopay with a credit card. I called and they said it was a glitch. My American Express was fine and I never had any problems with it. I always pay the balance so it wasn't my card. The rep couldn't explain why it didn't go through, nor why no one called me. By the way, I am unable to log in to my account and they can't reset it. I will be changing this company when my contract is up.

Beware of this company. We stared with them and after 6 months we decided to cancel their service and move from that address. They told us that it would take a month for them to cancel the service. After that, we started to receive letters with bills that we already paid. For some reason now we owe more than $700 in past bills. Which is impossible since we already paid them and moved out of that address. We called customer service and the representative (a lady) we talked with was very rude, angry and yelled at us. Unacceptable for a company to have this kind of employees. She didn’t help us at all and tried to threat us saying they will send us to collection agencies and our credit score will suffer. Such behavior is very shameful. They are a scam. Don’t let them get you. I’ve read other reviews online of people experiencing the same situation. Please be careful if you already have this service.

I have canceled them due to their over charging rates and have been trying to get an overpayment refunded. This process has been tough, to say the least. It has been over a month since my first request and they acknowledge my first call but admit nothing was done, but can not speed up the process to get me my refund to me. The online portal is poor. I had set up a Pre-Auth payment from my credit card so I wouldn't have to worry about going into the online portal to make payments. The website confirmed I was enrolled. A month later I find out that I am receiving late payment fees because for some reason I am not enrolled even though the website confirmed that I was. Customer service was not able to refund late fees or commit to listening to my situation or change the portal. Obviously some technical issues here.

Ambit started off OK, stating their electric rates were the cheapest. Sucked us in for a year commitment and it took multiple calls on the phone to run away from them after after the 1 year commitment, calling to cancel service and having to follow up 58 days later to find out they never cancelled service. Somehow, they were able to attempt to invoice me $56 after the requested disconnect. Quick break down. $56 balance, $40 deposit being taken out of that. $10 fee for disconnect notice that they did not do their job on. Leaves a balance of $6 on the account. I asked them to zero this out of 1 year of 100% on time payments and they said NO. Please make sure you run away from this company.

Ambit Energy used to be a great company as our electricity provider. We've been with them for over 10 years. At the beginning of the year, they didn't see that we had paid our bill, and they shut off our electricity. They apologized and within a couple of hours it was turned back on. We let their mistake go as we all make them. They have turned into a sloppy energy provider with higher than normal rates. In order to change to a different plan within their company, the customer must pay the $199 cancellation fee. We will be paying that, but switching to another provider. Save yourself the trouble and do NOT chose Ambit Energy. They're not what they used to be. Horrible customer service and policies.

This has been the WORST experience I have ever had with an electric company. The issues have occurred every single month from start of service. My electric has been disconnected every month since service and I have payed every month on time. The very first month they charged my account 3 times!!! Claiming that the amount had been refused for insufficient funds. When I called they were extremely rude. They refunded me back all money owed 2 weeks later. The second month they disconnected saying that I had not payed the bill, my account is on auto draft. When I called the manager was again extremely rude. Third month same thing. This month we are back to the insufficient funds scenario. I do not understand how this company even exists still. I am required to use them do to my apartment complex. However I do NOT recommend this company under ANY circumstances. They are a big reason I will not be renewing my lease.

I had subscribed to Ambit Energy in September 2019. This customer rep lady asked for my personal information over the phone, including SSN, and was very rude. Anyway, we went ahead with setting up the account as we were promised only a contract of 6 months and a low cost of energy after that. We were guaranteed special low pricing after the six (6) months of service.

Before the end of the contract, I tried to contact Ms. ** via phone & email, but she did not reply back. I then called Ambit Energy customer service and was promised that our low rate would be the same. Soon our bill started climbing up from approximately $90 to our current bill of $188 per month. We have not been home for at least part of each month. I tried explaining to the customer service representative and asked for a manager, but they were extremely rude.

Our apartment is only 1000 sq feet, and this cost of energy is very high. I want Ambit to refund the amount from the 7th month onwards till the current bill as we were promised that our Electricity bill would NOT go up. We will pursue all avenues, including contacting government regulatory bodies and other social media platforms if this matter is not promptly addressed. We have canceled our service with Ambit and pursued their competition. They have lost a good-paying client. Very Frustrated!!!

I did however look at the ratings on this site for the other energy companies and they ALL had a lower rating than Ambit. I don't know what these people who say they are going with another company are going to do... go without electricity? Always the same complaints, too. They forget to pay their bill and complain at the consequences? Majority seem to be customer error by not reading the EFL which is required by law to be available to potential customers. And with Ambit, if you go paperless and autopay they reward you with a substantial discount. Go with Ambit and please for the love of dogs and cats... read the policy statements. Due to the loss of work during the pandemic I decided to become a full time Independent Consultant with Ambit because I have been a satisfied customer and believe in the company.

After being a new customer and trying to have a better understanding of my bill and charges. I spoke to two Ambit employees, one which was talking over me and giving me no actual explanation of what I was asking or seeking to understand. Second was a supervisor named Kaddim - both which were not good at explaining and or clarifying anything about my bill. I simply asked why would they no mention extra fees and charges when you a new customer calls to join your services. I was told, "Well it was in your contract" so basically you are wrongly informed and/or misled into something and then they tell you, "Well it was in your contract" which is something that is sent after you have signed up with them.

Also told that the consultants are not the same as Ambit energy agents - so when you google and search Ambit - make sure to ask to speak directly to an Ambit agent or you will speak to a consultant which is not the same? *Do not use Ambit Energy. Using their marketing representatives Ambit pitch what it considers low rate of 8 or 9 cents per kw to potential customers, but when the bill shows up Ambit uses algebraic formulas to compute your consumption. Ambit energy sent me extremely high bills every month. When customer service is contacted, they all respond like programmed robots. They gave me the excuse that my bill is high because I do not have auto pay.

This April, I tried to pay my bill online as I usually do every month, but the site was down for about two days. I eventually contacted them by phone to pay the bill with my debit card, Ambit customer service insisted that an additional charge of $2.50 for card, and $10 for late payment will be added to my bill. While the rep agreed that the website was down, he refused to waive those charges. I can't wait to switch when term expires in August. Ambit should not serve the public...

I’ve probably been with Ambit for a decade now and I’ve never had a problem. For the last couple of weeks I get an error message when trying to access my account to renew my service next month. My auto pay debited my account on 4/13. Because I’m not working due to Covid, my fiancé saw the statement on the counter (it had the 800 number I was going to call since their website is down) and thought he’d help me by paying the bill. Ambit charged him FOUR times and we are now overpaid by $520. When I called today, the agent blamed my fiancé saying he hit the button too many times and said 20-30 days for a refund. I was at the grocery store and have no idea how he got on the website to begin with but I’m pretty sure it was a website issue.

When I tried to get on today, I got another network error (see attached). The agent today also blamed people working at home for bogging down the bandwidth. Again, it’s been a network error and not my fault that their servers are ill equipped. The representative of Ambit today took no accountability on their part other than to offer a refund in TWENTY to THIRTY days, which she said was an exception to the rule. At least two of those erroneous charges put my fiancé in the negative and the bank will charge around $60 for overdraft fees. The Ambit agent made no attempt to make that right. I thought others should see how their customer service works these days, so I’m posting here, my FB page, Yelp and Google reviews. For the record the agent and I were friendly enough. I don’t blame her, but I do hold Ambit accountable for lack of service, even theft at this point since they’re holding our money. My contract expires May 12 and I will not renew.

The first year I was with Ambit, they seemed fine. My bills were around $70-80, and $130-$150 in the Texas summer for a medium sized home. But since 2019 they've been terrible. 600kw usage costs me $100. I had to cancel the credit card that I used for autopay because someone had gotten the number. Because the card had been cancelled, my auto-payment didn't go through, and Ambit TURNED OFF my electricity 11 DAYS after the due-date for non-payment, on the first occurrence of me ever paying late. The cancellation fees and reconnect fees amounted to about $200. They did remove all but $40 of the charges (earning them one star rather than zero), but the first time I was late because of a stolen credit card they turned off my electricity within 14 days.

Their website is slow. Setting up auto-payments is a pain, giving error messages unless you enter the information in at a specific place. If you're not on autopay, they charge more per usage - which makes it even more frustrating that the setup is so difficult. Also, when your plan runs out, they don't roll you over in your current plan. They move you into the monthly plan, which is more expensive.

Two and a half years ago I started using Ambit in my apartment and all was fine. A year later I moved down the same street into another apartment. My bill is now up to 3x higher. I have had $400 dollar bills in my small 2br apartment from this company. You would think I'm paying for the entire building. When I called about this, I was asked if I am "leaving any lights on" - no, I'm not, but even if I did leave a lamp on all day how does that equate to a $400 dollar bill? Then I was asked about the AC temperature. "We recommend leaving your AC set to around 80 degrees." I was told this in AUGUST in TEXAS.

For the record I leave the AC off during spring/fall and in summer it is set to auto in the 72 range. So no, I'm not doing anything crazy with my electricity to equate to a $400 bill. I called for a meter check and they never got back to me. I will be switching and warning everyone I know not to use this scam of a company. For a bit of background - I have never left a review of anything in my life, and created an account just to leave this review. I signed up for Ambit Energy August 2019. I have been on automated draft from the beginning, which allowed them to processes every payment on-time. Today I received a confirmation email of a payment for $792.41. I called to inquire and was told that apparently Encore energy did an audit on their meters and determined that I had previously been charged and paid for someone else's usage. They determined that the difference that I should have been charged was the $792.41 and took all of it out today. I did nor receive a letter alerting me of this mix up nor informing me that I would be charged $792.41 at one time.

I consider this the worst form of customer service ever. I am not sure why I need to pay for their error. I paid what I was billed on time every single month. However, out of the blue my power bill tripled in one month from approx. 200/mo to 600 just for August!! To my surprise I thought this was a meter issue or mistake... They signed me up for a 6 month plan when my lease was a year long. After 6 months and an email, which I never saw but apparently received, detailing how I was about to be placed on a month-to-month plan, my monthly bill more than doubled. I assumed it was because summer prices were just more expensive and that's just how it was so I let it go.

My previous apartment complex, only allowed us to use Ambit Energy, so I chose them by default. I was never once late on paying my bill, matter of fact I paid early each month. When I decided to move, I called Ambit a month in advance to inform them that I was moving. I provided all the information they requested; move date, forward address, email, everything. I called two weeks before to confirm, a week before and they before just to make sure I was covered. Everyone I spoke to, assured me everything was good to go. I moved out, paid my last bill and I was assured my 3 different representatives that, that was it and I was good. I asked repeatedly, if they were sure, because it has been my experience that, even after you move out, there is usually still one more bill. Again, I was told my 3 different representative that was it.

Fast forward to 6 months later, I am checking my credit report and score, and boom, my credit score has dropped by 34 points. I was so baffled, but I had done made any major changes or purchases that could affect my score that much. I keep looking, and boom there it is. A $30 collection bill from Ambit. I was shocked. $30 stinking dollars. I looked through all my emails to make sure I didn’t receive a bill a missed it, and nothing. I checked all my mail, nothing. I logged into my ambit account (with my old information), nothing. I called Ambit, and was rudely told that, had I paid my bill, it would not have been sent to collections. I was baffled.

I explained to the representative Kadeem, based out of Dallas TX (where I reside), that I had not received any bills, phone calls or mail, because surely if I did, it would have been paid immediately, just like all the others. I said to let me know when the bill was sent, he was not able to, I asked him, why no call, he didn’t have a straight answer, why no mail, and nothing. Ambit decided to send my bill to collections, without even attempting to contact me. Even after I called, for their mess up, I was met with a rude representative named Kadeem, for just trying to figure out why I was in collections. Now, I have this bad remark on my credit, that will remain for 2+ years. A credit I worked so hard for. This is my experience, so if you plan to move or something similar and you are with Ambit. Please do yourself a favor and triple check everything, before you get screwed like I did. Or better yet, don’t use them at all, if you can avoid it.

Best,

Well I’ve had Ambit since 2009 and qualified for their free energy program. I get a check from them every month for around $120.00 to 150.00 per month just for being a customer and since I referred 15 people I qualified for the free energy program. Plus no cancellation fee or contract. I do have to renew every 12 months or my rate will go to a variable and it’s a lot higher than the fixed. But I do get a letter letting me know I need to call in and renew my service. I understand maybe people have had their own experience. But for the past 10 years I’ve been able to put back 14,000 dollars. I was able to invest that in bitcoin and it changed my life. Thanks Ambit.

I was on a average billing plan and I will never recommend it to anyone. First off, my service plan was interrupted 6 months in due to a neighbor setting up service and putting in my apartment number. I didn't know this as it was corrected. When I was hit with a bill outside of my monthly bill, customer service told me that the large amount owed was the average billing amount. I was told that if my full 12 months had been reached, it wouldn't have been so large. I pointed out that I didn't cancel or interrupt my own service and didn't understand why my plan couldn't be resumed. Obviously I wasn't expecting that bill and I was going to be continuing to use them. The customer service was nice, but I did end up having to pay the large amount.

This year, my plan ended and I knew I was switching. I had 2 billing cycles on a much higher rate plan, which was not a surprise on me (just busy). My bills were both 150-250 each. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment by myself and work full time. Even in the Texas summer, I have not had bills that high. I switched to another company. I paid my last bill 12/22. On 12/26 they charged me 250 for the average billing from 2 MONTHS!!! That means that my 150-250 bills were lower than what they should have been???? I called and was told that it was the plan I was on, though I had my letter that said I would be on a month to month variable plan if I didn't renew. SOMEHOW, I was switched to another plan that included average billing, though I never authorized it.

I was told today that "well I wasn't charged a cancellation fee". Of course not, I was on a month to month plan! Why would you switch customers to average billing when they are on month to month? Why would you not pick up the phone and call your customers or have their identity confirmed when they are "switching" to another plan? Their explanations are not very detailed and they don't try to help or retain customers. Long story short: you will be overcharged, don't enroll in a average billing plan, though customer service reps are nice, they can't help much, and choose a different company.

Our landlord highly recommended using Ambit Energy at our new rental home. He referred us to an Ambit "consultant". I expected to speak with an employee, but got a man name Paul. Paul told me about a "market plan" which he had been a part of for a year. His bills had been much much lower. He told me this plan follows the market so in theory, it could go up with the market, but, he told me, it would never go more than double a normal month, and he didn't even expect that. I asked if there was a termination fee. He told me yes, but that I just had to ask for it to be removed. We joined the plan.

I later learned that Paul had a "downline" that I was on, and enjoyed free energy as a result of signing me and others up. Our first month's bill was over $900 for a 2200 square foot house (a normal month was about $250). The company then charged me $200 to terminate. The market did spike that month, I learned from other sources, and I did sign up for the plan that followed the market. But what bothered me was a person representing Ambit out of their home, making total bogus promises in order to make the sale and build their downline. Ambit did not honor any of his promises. He of course didn't have power to honor his own promises.

Lesson learned, when something feels off in business, run the other way, and do more homework. DON'T do business with Ambit through "consultants" and DON'T expect Ambit customer service to make things right with you if their representatives lie to you about their policies. I talked to three managers who simply repeated policy procedure to me, though one of them did admit "If I were you, I'd feel scammed too." Ok. Well. My advice is to AVOID this company.

I spoke with a nice representative today, who helped me as much as she can. My problem is not with her specifically, it is with Ambit Energy as a whole. I receive a extra $30 a month fee on my bill, because my payment due date does not fall on the days that I am paid from my job. The company will not allow me to move my due date, which I have requested to be done twice. Which means, in the past 6 months I have paid a additional almost $200 for electricity which is not at all fair.

If I would not have looked carefully at my bill this month, I never would have noticed the additional charges I have been being billed. I was told my bill would be less than I had been previously paying, which was a lie. My bill has actually been higher than what I was previously paying. I made the WORST mistake moving to ambit energy, and as soon as my contract is over I will feel better. I WILL NOT EVER renew with this company, and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AMBIT ENERGY TO ANY CUSTOMER!

I can not express enough to stay away from this company on every level possible. I have never been through more of a cluster than when I came aboard this company. My contract ended with my current provider and I was looking at a new company to switch to. I ended up with Ambit and made the switch, was told by my representative that it was going to be the best switch ever, and no one could beat their rates.

Long story short, 1st bill comes in for July 2019 and it's for 54$. "Nice" I can handle this. It's the summer time and I could use a break in my financial wallet. Then BOOM, next bill arrives and my bill was now over 700$ for August 2019. I think my family had to call an ambulance, because I just about went into cardiac arrest. I call immediately and ask what in the heck happened, why is my bill almost quadrupled in what I had normally been paying for the last 2 years with my previous provider. I was told it was NEVER seen before, that the temperature was at the highest ever recorded, and that I was being charged the "Real Time Prices". WHAT! What does that even mean!!

So I tell them ok, something has to be done, different plan or anything else, but this is not acceptable on any level. I now have a almost 800$ bill I'm responsible for and don't know how anyone could pay that. So I was offered a payment plan for that amount, and was told I would still receive my normal bill for the following month and still be responsible for the payment plan as well. Well what other choice do I have at this point, as long as your not shutting off my electric because I can't pay that astronomical amount. So we proceed with a payment for that day, along with setting up a plan for the other amounts now owed and we're good. NOPE! I receive my next bill and it's now 426$ plus the additional 100$ from the payment plan. By this time, I have done about lost it.

Fast forward to just a few days ago, I call and tell them I'm done, ("BIG MISTAKE" I know), I can not financially keep getting bill's every month with these amounts charged. I say I would like to cancel, tell me what I owe in order to get off your service/contract "Whatever" because I'm not doing this. I was given the amount, I sternly pay it and then was told that I will be released from my "Switch Hold" in 24-48hrs. Ummm hold up, "Switch Hold", what in the heck does that mean. Come to find out, my address had been put on a switch hold. Means I couldn't get a new provider until that was cleared.

So now comes the fun part!!! I'm thinking ok Monday I will get new service, no problem, the 24-48hrs will be off by then, I'll be good, NOPE!!!! Still there, the next day, still there and now my electric has been turned off completely. I call, no help and was told the switch hold release was never submitted. I escalate to a supervisor to help release the switch hold sooner, because I am now with no electricity in Texas heat and that's no Bueno. Still no help, "Sorry ma'am, you will have to wait until the switch hold is released, which is 24-48hrs" which is just now being submitted.

Now I'm stuck, I'm at work and now trying to figure out how to get my service back on at my home that is occupied at that moment by my 18yr old daughter, my 2 year old grand daughter and 3 little pups, and a fully stocked refrigerator full of groceries that was just purchased the previous day. Needless to say I had to call the "BIG DOGS" (Center Point) and have them check my information to have the switch hold released so I could finally get new service. Thank you Center Point for your help, if I could kiss the lady that did help me, I would. Moral of my story, don't ever use Ambit, Find a new provider before canceling (Which this girl already knew that) but thought I was in the clear with their 24-48hr switch hold BS.

We had used ambit since 2015 and never had a problem until just last month. We were in a "plan" which was supposed to lock in an energy rate of 8 cents/kWh. We received a bill just last month of over $600, up from the typical ~$130 around the summer months. When studying the bill, our usage was really not that much higher that historical data for this month. The huge bill was because Ambit decided to increase our rates from 8 cents to 30 cents / KWh.

After spending about 45 minutes on hold, I finally got through to a customer service agent to ask for an explanation. The best explanation they could give me was that the rate increase was because we went over 2000 kWh. This made no sense because we have gone well over this before in previous months and never saw a rate hike like this. The agent basically stuck with this reason and when I attempted to articulate this issue further, the agent said "you know what, just forget it" and hung up the phone. That same afternoon, I found another provider, signed up and then called Ambit to cancel my service. If they want to play this game, I'll feed them little $5/month payments until my bill is settled.

I pay my bill every month, at the end of the month. I recently discovered that I have been paying a disconnect notice fee of $10 for four months. The reason for this is that the payment due date changes every month based on when they check the meters and document the usage. There no set due date but rather an “around that date.” I was never informed of this when I signed up for Ambit’s service. I was told I was receiving these “disconnect notices” via email, however, I never received an email notification. The notices were being sent to my “inbox” on the ambit energy website. Had I received the notice via email as the customer service rep stated then I would have been able to locate this fee 3 months ago. I have been a customer of Ambit since 2010. The first weekend after signing up, we were left without electricity because of miscommunication on the part of Ambit staff that arranged for the electricity switch. My family and I were forced to spend the weekend in a hotel. I let this fiasco pass and continued with Ambit for the next 9 years up to today when I received a $495.03 electricity bill. I have never paid an electricity bill higher than $300.00 during summers. When I called I was told that since my plan was "flexible" that the rates can increase or decrease depending on the Transmission Distribution Utility charges passed through to Ambit and the Electric Reliabity Council calculations of market cost who determines charges per month blah blah blah.

This shows up in the so called Plan Label for my electricity plan already and I understand this but, my questions were not answered when I called: Why was I not informed beforehand of the change in the rate? Why such a drastic increase from the 4.1 cents per Kilowatt to 22 cents per Kilowatt in just one month? What caused such an outrageous increase? Why was the 11.5 cents per Kilowatt average pricing in my plan was not utilized to calculate the cost of electricity per month? My electric consumption was lower during September than during August 2019, then why is the bill for September higher?! See my usage record for the last 7 months:

Date Usage Service Period Amount Rate

09/26/1908/01/19 – 08/30/19 $495.03 22.1¢
08/29/19 07/02/19 – 08/01/19 $153.83 4.1¢
07/29/1906/03/19 – 07/02/19 $227.46 3.7¢
06/28/1905/02/19 – 06/03/19 $309.15 3.4¢
06/03/1904/02/19 – 05/02/19 $131.67 3.3¢
04/29/1903/04/19 – 04/02/19 $124.83 3.4¢

02/27/1901/03/19 – 02/01/19 $111.61 2.7¢

After speaking with several representatives at Ambit it became clear to me that they do not value loyal customers and are not willing to provide a favorable resolution to this. Ultimately it is all about the money I suppose. Therefore I FIRED Ambit today and taking my business somewhere else. FRAUD RISK. I signed up with Ambit energy in June 2018. When I closed my account on March 31, 2019, my final bill was exceptionally higher than anticipated. I called in and I was informed that another account had been opened under my name with my DOB and SSN. They informed me that when I called in to close MY account, their collections department conveniently combined my account with the FRAUD account and charged my automatic payment method the two balances owed on both accounts. I called and disputed it only to be told they couldn't help me with the charges saying that I was responsible for them due to being tied in with my SSN.

Faxing out a police report, a copy of my state ID, SSN and a detailed report of my situation to them, I am still waiting for the issue to be resolved. And of course, they will not reimburse any funds to me until the account is fully investigated. IF they conclude that it is indeed fraud, they will then mail me out a check within 4-6 weeks after the fraud account is closed.

I have never been a victim of fraud or identity theft until I signed on with Ambit Energy. Their customer service agents are clueless. They lack the necessary empathy as a customer service representative for a client who is a fraud victim for the first time because of their company (one rep literally told me "sorry but maybe someone stole your SSN. I called up a friend in Dallas who worked at Mary Kay at the time, and asked him how they did this in a way that people looked at them with pride and respect. He told me, "Never sacrifice integrity for growth." Since then, we have held that as our mantra. Jere Thompson, Jr., Inc. 500 Interview (CEO of Ambit Energy). Really? That's not the treatment I recently encountered at Ambit Energy.

In December, my husband and I divorced after 23 years of marriage. The Ambit Energy account was in his name. I called last week to have the billing statement transferred into my name since I was staying in the house. The Representative told me that my ex-husband had to call first and give permission for the account to be changed. Sounds a bit sexist doesn't it? I was surprised at this since all the other utilities that serviced my home transferred the ownership the same day with only minor inconvenience. (e.g. copy of the divorce decree etc.) None the less, I obliged.

My ex-husband called on Saturday and gave me a 5-day window to have the service transferred before it was to be disconnected. Today I called Ambit back and learned that the service was not going to be transferred, instead I had to open up a brand new account, possibly pay a deposit, pay a fee, and be subject to the same plan with increased costs. Now I ask you, is that "never sacrificing integrity for growth?" Would any sensible person look at Ambit Energy's handling of this already sensitive issue and look at them with "pride and respect?" I think not.

And to add insult to injury, there is now a cancellation order in effect for March 7th which does not give me enough time to sign up with a competitor. If I do take Ambit's unfair option, I am subject to a $199 early cancellation fee if I change providers. If I don't, I will be without power for about 5 days in 30-degree weather. Where is the respect and integrity for customer loyalty in those options? Remember the community property paid our bill for the last 3 years; not just my ex-husband.

Divorce is difficult enough on all parties without having a greedy corporation making money off your hardship. The most ironic thing about this scenario is that I have a higher credit score and more liquid assets than my ex-husband and yet he is treated with royalty (allowed to give his permission for a change to the account) and I am treated like a dreg. Again, I ask you is Ambit Energy sexist or just uncaring?

Then you get penalized $9.99 for not using enough electricity... wth? Aren't we supposed to be conserving energy?

The final straw is the lack of customer service. First of all, you cannot reach a rep. You have to wait upwards of half an hour or more to speak to someone. That someone may have about as much knowledge as the kid's pet hedgehog, and you get to start the process over since you hung up more confused. The chat has you hold for 15 minutes and when you are edging to the 2 minute mark to get assistance, they encounter an error.

I signed up for average billing in May, to ease the sting of high Summer bills. When I placed that order, I was never informed that it would not start right away. There is no way they aren't doing this on purpose - this is a complete scam to sucker you into paying unbelievably high rates.

I went online while chatting with an agent to make a payment. I accidentally entered the wrong payment amount and within minutes I notified Ambit customer service to see if they could stop the ach payment I did and they said no. That it would be a credit on my account but I could request a refund once the payment has cleared. Well the money cleared my account and so, I requested that the credit on the account be refunded back to me and they are telling me it will take 20-30 days to receive a credit; however if my bill generates within that timeframe then my credit request would be rejected. So, I told them that the money was meant for this account and if my due date isn't until mid month of August then they shouldn't keep my money. They apologize and said that's their policy.

I'm highly pissed off and once my contract is up I will not renew. I understand that this was my error but I notified them within minutes of submitting the payment and now they are telling me I can't get my money back if I have a balance due for next month. This BS!!! They don't care about their loyal customers. They only care about making money!!!

I've been with them for 3 years and it has gotten progressively worse! My bill is now in the $300s and whenever I call they can never give me any details or reasons. I made a payment with the wrong account and realized it 10 minutes later so I called trying to cancel the payment and of course they can't do it and I'm going to get a $25 fee. I made the mistake of renewing my contract and DESPERATELY want to get out of it but they're going to charge me $300 to break it. Please please please just go with another company, I wouldn't want anyone to have to deal with this company.

RUN FROM THIS COMPANY!!! My apartment management set me up with them. So I called to set my deposit and setup autopay MONTHS AGO and their autopay never worked. I kept having overdue bills and then paying them by phone. I have very good credit and have never had difficulty paying bills before but these guys have the worst customer service. They also don't contact you to let you know an autopayment didn't go through. They have my email- I know because they send me emails for advertisements and they know my phone number but I received zero calls to let me know they were going to shut off my power.

As a result of their lack of communication, they shut off my power and I had to throw out all of the food in my freezer and sleep in the dark because I randomly had no power. Then they charged a $15 cancellation fee, $40 power reinstatement fee and a $40 overdue fee. All for a billing issue that I didn't know I had. Their customer service is a joke. To put this in perspective, I have 20 other autopay bills and I have never been late on any of the payments. But these guys just shut off my power without a call or email and I have no way to reinstate it before the morning. Their lack of communication and customer service just cost me $250 in fees and lost food. RUN!!!

I have never had as many problems with an electric company as this one. I am not a consultant of this company, I am only a customer. Let me begin by saying, that if you want to have an account with this company a representative cannot have you apply through a computer that you can review the information with. The problem with this is that if the representative gets your information wrong and has the address for the wrong apartment YOU as the customer has the pay any electricity used by the owner or inhabitants of said wrong location. Second, to get this situation fixed you will spend at least 30 minutes on the phone. I know because this situation happen to me.

Third, you will not have a set date when you need to pay your bill. Fourth, if you have any late fees (even if you weren't informed your card didn't process correctly) you are charged 25$. Also if you choose to make any payments online with a debit card (even if you tried multiple times with an account number and failed) you will be charged 2.50$. Every month I have had to spend at least an hour on the phone with this company. I'm sick of it. I would NEVER EVER EVER recommend them to anyone!

Don't take their checks or you could get a declined notice and charged or charges from your bank. I called at approximately 12:15 pm today the number on the check and did leave a message but as of 11:29 pm they have yet called me. I have read nothing good other than it's bad. Ambit you're the people that agreed to give me the money and you can't even cash the check or call me back.

I hated this company after just 3 months and stayed because they charge you $199 for early termination. So, after I found another apartment, I got quoted a much better plan with Gexa and thought I'd call to make the switch. After talking to a retention sales rep, they "convinced" me to stay for a similar plan and that I would avoid being charged a disconnect fee. Then I go to pay my bill and they sure enough added $199 for early termination. My electricity was still on and I stayed with them. Paying that would defeat the purpose! This company is a joke!

Ambit Energy is a wonderful company, I have been a customer for two and a half years. Never had a problem with them. I have become a consultant with them and the experience has been great! The company has great integrity. Well lets face it there's always something wrong with every company or business a little and people will get wet behind the ears cause it didn't go their way. But overall Ambit is a great company. They do save you a little bit of money. And they do care.

I've been using Ambit Energy for two years. I started with Ambit in 2016. The rule is after a year on your contract you would have to renew it into the plan you have always been in. What they didn't tell me is if they send a notice to renew and it is not caught on time, they will automatically renew you into their highest variable rate without notice. So, I received my electricity bill and my bill went from $97.00 to $285.00 for one month! After I called to discuss this with Ambit, they told me they have the right to change the plan over at their discretion after a year has passed. Here is the sneaky part, they will change over to the highest rated plan because they told me that most people don't want to mess around with renewing their contracts. I am furious about this.

This is a SCAM and it is written all over the program. They absolutely should not enroll you in the most expensive plan there is for THEIR benefit. They are making thousands and thousands of dollars doing this. There is no person in their right mind who would want Ambit to move them into a higher cost plan that quadruples! The frustrating part is I don't know who to complain to and I'm switching from Ambit immediately. I don't know if I have any way to get a refund. Of course if I don't pay it, ComEd will disconnect me. So they have me against a wall with their sneaky business practices. Perhaps the Attorney General's office can help. I just don't know. And they lured me in with their travel reward program, which has now abruptly ended. I WOULD NOT USE AMBIT AND ANYONE WHO READS THIS, PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE AMBIT.

When I called to customer services they told me because I'm late for my payment so I need paying for $125 for deposit until my contract expired they will give that back on my bill but when my contract almost expire I call and ask about that. The guy told me I have to stay with Ambit 9 more months if I want my money back. Huh look like they kidding on me. Well I don't need money back and don't need to stay with them no more. I have signed up for electricity service with Ambit Energy over the phone. I was presented with a possibility of paying a low rate of 8.5 cents per kWh if I sign up for a year as well as for paperless billing and automatic payment. Later, I was redirected to an automatic system that finalized the process. I have specifically asked the agent about any additional (or hidden) fees that may increase my effective rate and was told that there are none. However, since then, every month I was charged an additional fee of $9.99 because my electricity usage was below 1000 kWh. This fee significantly raised the effective rate that I was paying to up to 17.3 cents per kWh (more than double).

I feel that I was purposely misled by the Ambit Energy's representative. I find that the very small discount they gave for paperless billing and automatic payment were part of the scheme, as it made sure that I did not notice the extra fee immediately. I tried multiple times to contact them to resolve the issue, but was not successful as they refuse to waive the fee or cancel my service without a penalty.

Tried to save money on electric bill and chose Ambit as the provider due to their favorable rate. Due to the process of having to verify the change, I opened account in my name. I asked the representative if that would be a problem as our electric bill with Eversource was in my husband's name. She assured me that there would be no problem. Today I receive a call saying Eversource rejected the change due to the fact Ambit was not in my husband's name. Lost out on a good rate and they obviously have no idea what they are doing. All they could say was, "Oh sorry..." Not helpful...

I have been an Ambit customer for more than four years, and I still have people tell me it’s a scam because of how they market their service. People are extremely skeptical, which I understand, but to say it’s a scam is just being flat out lazy! They don’t always have the cheapest rates, but they are very competitive. But because people have the opportunity to receive free electricity and get paid simply by referring people, that beats everyone else! Their customer service is AMAZING as well.

Anyone who complains about their rates getting raised without them knowing did not read all of the terms and conditions. It's very simple - you choose your rate for the length of the term you want (I always choose the lowest rates!) and when it's time to renew, Ambit sends you a letter WELL in adv
