I came from Australia and I travelled to Canada and The Global Work and Travel Co. have been amazing, although I still haven't found a job yet. One of the staff named Krissy who I was paired with did tell me not to travel yet here to Canada until I’ve had a job but I insisted I wanted to come here. I should've listened to her. But Krissy has been amazing. She has helped me through everything like getting my visa so it's been fantastic. She has been sending me heaps of links but it’s getting a bit hard. I found out that some of my friends are in Vancouver as well and were trying to work together on how we're going to get jobs and how long we’re going to stay. So, our plans have changed.

I've had a few interviews but. I'm not a fully qualified aesthetician and all those jobs require training. They wanted me to be there for a longer period of time, but I wanted to travel around while I'm here. That hasn't worked out but now, I'm looking for something that I can do for the next three-four months then my friend and I are going to head over to Whistler for the winter because he's going to help me get a job in Four Seasons and maybe look for other jobs as well.

But it would be cool to travel and work but you have to pay for your own expense. I want to work and get paid also the trip as well.

I was born and raised in Germany and traveled to England. I found the Working Holiday program the best value for what we could get for the money but it was the destination they offered I was more concerned about. We talked to Jen from The Global Work & Travel and she's looked after us from the point we departed in England until the point we arrived here in Vancouver, British Columbia. I now work as a restaurant supervisor in a resort here in the beautiful city of Kelowna, Okanagan. During my days-off, I go shopping and do a bit of hiking. We've got here the mountain slopes and the wineries, which is what Kelowna is well-known for. The experience with The Global Work & Travel has been very smooth.

I started the process with The Global Work and Travel. I haven't yet arrived where I will be staying and started working yet. So far my experience with the company sucks. I thought this company would make things easier for me not more stressful and difficult. Everything right from the start I've been told incorrect information and many things have not been done properly and I haven't even arrived yet! I would never recommend The Global Work and Travel to anyone, and it upsets me because I only read positive reviews but clearly only good reviews have been posted. I also had to deal with 5-6 people about my trip making communication difficult. I really hope things are different when I start my journey.

I started planning my trip well in advance of my departure. Everyone was very helpful until payments and flights needed to be booked. I am from Canada and a lady from Australia was in charge of my flights. She called me at 2300 hrs. I was in bed. I was able to easily get a hold of her due to time change. She also was going to charge me over a 1000 dollars extra for my ticket. I saw a ticket for 1100 CAD she had a ticket prices for 2000 AUS. I finally got switched to a man in Vancouver after asking to be switched. I had to call the emergency hotline after my flight got cancelled and nobody answered the first and did get answer.

For the flight home I wasn't given the confirmation number so I couldn't check in or reserve my seats. I showed up super early at the airport to make sure I made it. I had two different travel agents and was told I was being switched and the new lady didn't know too much about my information. Wasn't happy with the general experience and thought it was overpriced. Would not recommend to anybody.

I chose the Costa Rica Superhero Volunteer programme in with Global Work and Travel, and it has been an incredible experience from start to finish. The representatives have all been enthusiastic, friendly and happy to help with any enquiries or questions. The ground team member here in Costa Rica has been great as well - giving me a tour of the area, recommending things to do and assisting me with initial language barriers. GWAT's organisation of the trip has made my first big trip across the world stress-free and well supported, so it's the perfect way for first-time travellers to have adventure and experience new things, with easy access to support along the way. I would definitely recommend the organisation to a friend, for great opportunities and excellent customer service.

I'd like to start by saying that this experience was nothing like I imagined it would be... It was far better than anything I could possibly with for in a million years. Not only did I get to help preserve and conserve the lives and habitat of hundred of Olive Ridley turtles, but I also learned so much precious information about the world I live in and the kind of life I want to lead. By connection with the community in the Ostional pueblo of Costa Rica, I enriched my soul and tasted a new flavor of life: it's called Pura Vida. The pure life: I was to live it fully and give it fully to all. The friendships I made down there are everlasting as they were with genuine people with similar goals and mindsets. We are avid explorers with altruistic intentions and a passion for life that is matched only by the few. If you wish to be an impetus for change, this is your project. Thank you GWAT for facilitating this once in a lifetime opportunity for me and many others.

I would like to start off by saying that Jen (based in Vancouver) was extremely helpful and transparent with me and she has provided a positive for this experience, guiding me extremely well. However, I believe the initial advertising of "unlimited job opportunities" is extremely misleading and the staff who promote the company when you call to inquire are very pushing almost to the point where you don't think you have a choice. I felt intimidated to hand over a deposit which was a real turn off.

However I proceeded as I have certain circumstances where this program seemed to be the easiest way to obtain a visa. Yet again, there was a hidden cost with the Visa cost an extra $300 on top of the extremely overpriced $2000 fee. Also, the travel insurance and flights which were quoted to me were absolutely ridiculous and if you want more business I suggest that you make them more within reason. All in all, I have to say that I have not been satisfied with anyone I have dealt with except Jen. Not worth the ridiculous price tag.

So the only improvement I would say is that they need to make sure all their customers are accounted for. Also when I was planning my trip one of their staff was very pushy at trying to get me to pay.

The support I have received from The Global Work & Travel Co. hasn't been the greatest. I have asked quite a few questions about basic things like making doctor’s appointments and asking about tax file numbers and my travel agent hasn't had any answers for me. I'm supposed to be able to message your company with any question I have 24/7 as per the 'perks' of this agency. But so far for the amount of fees I have paid it hasn't been that great. Another point, I believe there should be more discounts for trips and tours we take through your agency. Customers are paying a lot of money for your services when there are other agencies out there that will do the same job, or even better, for free. It's fairly frustrating to be in another country and not be receiving any help whatsoever. Even though I was guaranteed it.

When searching for volunteer programs in Africa, I came across Global Work & Travel Co. Their website had glowing reviews from past clients and detailed the amazing opportunities that their programs provide. After making contact, the pressure began. I was given strict timeframes and pressured into committing otherwise I would miss out on this ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’. As soon as we had put down a deposit, the issues began. We were told that we could only use their travel department and that if we booked elsewhere that our included airport transfers would be void. We thought it would be best to keep everything with Global to avoid hassle, boy were we wrong. After initially booking us on a flight that arrived the day after our first program started, there just seemed to be so many issues with the flight department as well as their flights being grossly overpriced.

They even tried to pressure us into paying for flights even when we explained to them (multiple times) that they were not correct. There was confusion over who within Global actually did certain things and we were constantly being passed between staff members. Our first program was completely different to what Global had told us we were doing. At the time of booking we were told that we would be assisting to rehabilitate sick and injured animals and that there would be lots of hands on interaction with the animals. The trip coordinator actually said to me "Think Lion King but you actually get to cuddle the cubs'’.

In actual fact we were weeding, cutting down trees and building roads. While I understand that there may be some discrepancy between what the agent advertises and what the on ground partner requires, I feel like Global will say anything to make the sale, whether it is truthful or not. The images that Global had on their website were also misleading. We had two nights between the two programs that we had booked with Global that we required accommodation for. After lengthy discussions with our trip coordinator, she advised that she had organised for us to get into our second program early at an additional cost which we agreed to and paid. Halfway through our first program we were contacted by another Global staff member who questioned if we had booked accommodation.

After advising her that we had booked and paid, she told us that we were mistaken about what we had organised and that they had booked us into a hostel. The date on the booking confirmation showed that the hostel was only booked after we had replied to Global explaining the situation. When we arrived at the hostel we were advised that we were unable to check in because the room had not been paid for so once again we contacted Global who told us that they would sort it. When we went to check out we were told by the hostel staff that Global had not paid and they could not let us leave until we paid. After contacting Global again, I was asked for my credit card details and told that they would refund me straight away. It took over 5 weeks and multiple emails to actually get the refund from Global.

The staff at our second program were amazing but once again we had been misled by Global. The staff did their best to accommodate us during our stay but the information we had been given by Global about the program was completely different to what we would actually be doing. Interestingly enough, the program is no longer listed on the Global website. I’ve never written a review before but want to make sure other travels are aware of the issues with Global. Make sure you read everything before you commit and don’t cave to their pressure. If given the opportunity again, I would definitely go with another Travel company or plan the trip myself.

I'm from Australia and traveled to Canada through the Working Holiday program of The Global Work & Travel Co.. I wanted to travel and the only way was to work and travel to get money to be able to travel and see things. Currently, I'm in Invermere, which is a small town in British Columbia. I'm working at Copper Point Resort, and they provided accommodation which is like a hostel. So I go to work for eight hours then come back and hang out with everyone from the hostel and do things. I work five days a week and get two days off. Since participating in the program, I've had more confidence in myself because I'm on my own now. No one knows my background and the people here are so friendly and welcoming. The first time I met someone they're like, "Oh, come down to town with us or come do this."

The team at The Global Work & Travel were nice too. If I came here by myself, I would not know how to get a bank account or get a job. And I had Krissy in the Canada office and she was helpful. I was concerned about going to a small town and traveling on my own because I've never traveled overseas by myself and she was trying to think of all the positives stuff for me... It was good to have that support from her and every question, I had to call her. The only issue was that I wanted to go to bigger places like Banff or Whistler. It is good here in Invermere and I like it but there's no public transport, to be able to go anywhere. I went to Banff the other day with some friends that I've met here and there’s so much more to do. I would've made the most out of going there.

Krissy was saying that it will be difficult especially for the winter that's coming up to get jobs and accommodation there. But my cousin whom I recommended to The Global Work & Travel Co and going through Krissy just the same and will be coming over in September got the option to go to Banff. I don't know if it's just the timing that’s different. And I don't see how other Australians and foreign people manage to work there.

The program costs $1895 and I don't understand where it all went to. I know that it covers the accommodation. Also, on the website, it says visa help was included. They did help me on the visa but I had to pay $20 Canadian for that which was only a few and straightforward questions. Everything was perfect on how they helped but I wish there was a better outline of where exactly all the money went to. And they said they'll find the cheapest flight but I feel that wasn't the cheapest flight they could've got me. I know that they had to pay a certain commission, which I understand.

There was one male rep who tried to sell flights and I ended up sorting it on my end because I couldn't get in touch with them very much. Then there was a female rep who was quite helpful and sorted a lot of stuff on the Vancouver side, while another male rep sorted a lot of the original stuff at the end of the visa application. But overall, I haven't been too impressed with the company. I think it's a massive waste of money. I was promised maybe 100 pounds off my flight which I didn't get. I found cheaper flights myself. I was promised a cellphone setup when I got to Canada, the bones nearly already broken and they didn't do much like I did, myself. Although I believe the experience would definitely make me a better person, I am dissatisfied.

From the start the friendly man on the phone pressured me into a trip which, at first, I didn't really want. After listening to him talk about all the wonderful things included for almost an hour, however, not to mention the beautiful pictures of the beaches he showed me over the internet, I then paid him a sum of $450 as a down payment for my trip with my best friend.

This was meant to reserve my seat and go towards the final payment of $1,895, which I was lead to believe included the tickets, both there and back. Turns out, the tickets weren't even a part of the package! Obviously not many people my age have $3000 lying around to throw away, so I demanded my money back, to which they declined thus far.

So in conclusion, this company is a great idea if you have a large stash of money laying around you want to throw away. If you're like the rest of us normal working people, save yourself the pain and book the trip yourself. My friend and I were lied to and manipulated from the start. We were made to believe that this was a trip of a lifetime and completely perfect for anyone looking to get away. This is lies. What you are doing is flushing valuable money down the toilet. Not only do I not have a trip of a lifetime, I have no money, no future because I gambled away my college fund, and now I'm still stuck in Indiana with an even longer wait to get out. Not to mention my trust issues for humanity have taken an all time high.

Whatever you do, please, please, PLEASE do not book a trip with this company!!! I was rushed into booking over the phone, I was EXPLICITLY told that my flight, assistance, and part of my stay would be included in the $1895 price for a Working Holiday in Australia. AFTER booking this trip and paying $695 deposit, which I was told is nonrefundable, I learned that my flight was NOT included in this price. I was lied to; a friend of mine went through the exact same thing, booked her trip, and found out we would each have to pay $1000-2000+ JUST for the flight.

When I tried to contact Global Work and Travel, I was told that I would not be refunded, but I submitted a cancellation form outlining the details of my experience anyway. I wish I had read the other reviews saying the exact same thing I experienced before booking. I am a college student who cannot afford to pay this much money for something I was TOLD would only be $1895. I am very disappointed in how this company does business and takes advantage of people who are unable to cough up the extra cash for the HIDDEN fees.

It's been a good experience with The Global Work & Travel Co. I travelled to Banff, Canada for a working holiday. I just worked every day in housekeeping. Their staff were really good. They ring me when I got here and asked if I was okay, if I settled in, and if I made friends. They keep me up to date and still send me emails. Back when I was in Vancouver, they gave me a lot of things to do. I started going out exploring what I wouldn't really know to do on my own so they helped me. This experience with Global has made me quicker to travel and know what to do during my travels. Now, I'm meeting new friends and experiencing stuff.

I got a scholarship in my country of origin, Australia and I was looking to travel. There was a bit of paperwork involved, so I went through an agency to give me a hand with that. I went with The Global Work & Travel Co. and signed up with the working holiday program. They assisted me with the paperwork that I have to stay on my accommodation and job. The first person I talked to said that they could help me with finding work in my industry, sheet metal fabrication – what the scholarship was for. Once I’d signed up, they said they can’t help me with that. Other than that, the team members at The Global Work & Travel Co. were professional and helpful in assisting with any problems, know what's going on, and check to see how I’m traveling.

It doesn't feel like being part of a program. They helped get me in Canada and I sorted everything else out. They use the imperial measuring system over here, which I don't use because we use metric in Australia, which is a much better system. That was a big culture shock. Joining the program made me more open-minded and aware of different types of people and cultures. Overall, it’s been much as expected.

Do NOT and I repeat, do NOT purchase any products from this company until you have read the following: Putting aside their high-pressure sales tactics, I purchased a Canadian Working Holiday Visa Program ($1995) from these guys about 8 months ago, after I had paid they (GWTC) sent me an invoice for a one-way flight and travel insurance to the sum of $4200, to which I politely notified the girl 'Ashley' whom was setting up my program that I would source my own flights and insurance, and the response I got was that I HAD to buy everything through them.. After this email I ceased contact to focus on arranging everything myself.

In their terms and conditions on their website under the Flights and Travel Insurance section it states the following information: "Flights and Travel Insurance

    19. Based on the nature of the trip, arrival and ongoing support services, visa requirements and time frames, I understand that it is in MY best interest to make all MY travel arrangements and to purchase MY travel insurance through GLOBAL.

I recently had a change of plans and ended up going to Argentina instead and was no longer interested in using their services (due to non ethical behavior) so I got in contact with 'Jason' via email, who was my original trip coordinator and asked if I could get a refund for the amount I paid minus the initial deposit (which is stated in their terms of service). He responded and told me that I wasn't entitled to a refund and sent me the following details from their T's & C's agreement.

"Payment and Cancellations. 7. A deposit of up to $695 is required to book MY trip package. By submitting this form I agree to these Booking Terms & Conditions and understand that the deposit becomes non-refundable if I decide to cancel or not proceed with my booking or my trip. My deposit is refundable if I do not submit this form. My deposit remains eligible for GLOBAL's 10 Year Deposit Guarantee as published on the GLOBAL website.

    8. My trip balance is due before my details are forwarded to the Destination Office. 9. Should I cancel my booking more than 60 days prior to MY scheduled arrival date in MY destination country, a cancellation fee of 50% of the trip package balance applies. The trip package balance is the amount between the initial deposit and the total chosen trip package price.

    10. Should I cancel my booking 60 days or less from my scheduled arrival date in my destination country, a cancellation fee of 100% applies. All other payments made to GLOBAL over and above the listed trip package price, such as airfares and travel insurance, can only be transferred into a Travel Credit to be used towards other travel products and services offered by GLOBAL, subject to applicable third party cancellation fees at time of cancelling."

To which nothing on there was applicable to me, he then proceeded to change his excuse for not giving me a refund some 3 more times. I forwarded emails sent to and from his co-worker (that he wasn't aware of) which proved his further reasoning's null again. He then blatantly refused to give me an explanation as to why I wasn't getting a refund and tried to further me onto their cancellations team. I sent 'Jason' a final email to which he has chosen to ignore and I haven't heard back from the company since.

I traveled from Australia to Canada. I got Global Work's most expensive program because I felt it was a safe option and I get everything with it. They found me job interviews, set me up with a Canadian phone, and I had a week of accommodation in Vancouver. Everything here is good and the place is incredible. It’s everything you would imagine it would be like country-wise.

However, dealing with The Global Work was difficult because I didn’t know who I was meant to be dealing with depending on the situation. I spoke to a whole lot of different people. Krissy, the final person that I dealt with in Canada, was bright but everyone else was not helpful. I was told a lot of things that were incorrect. When I signed up, I was pretty pressured into it. I was told that my insurance would be about $500 but I ended up having to pay $1,300. I was upset about it because I made sure that I asked all questions. I had it all written down and then once I paid my $2,000 for my package, they let me know the real price and that they can’t refund me anything. They also told me that I couldn’t book my own flight and insurance or my package would be void and I would waste all the money I gave them.

Since being here, I’ve met three people who went through The Global Work and they were told that they could book all their own things if they want it and they did that, so I was annoyed at that. Also, I had told Global Work that I was staying until August but when I got here, my employer was under the impression that my contract was until October and he almost didn't hire me. I’m losing all my summer bonus because I had that messed up. I hate my job. It’s not a nice environment that I’m working in. Everything I’ve done so far has nothing to do with the program. I had my week in Vancouver and since then I haven’t had any contacts with The Global Work. I’ve been doing it all on my own. I won’t go through them ever again.

I never usually leave reviews but I am so appalled by the behaviour of this company, that I would like to save other young people from fooling for any of their packages. The agents act extremely friendly and excited for you on your initial phone call (typical sales tactics). They go through details of how they are going to help you every step of the way, which is unfortunately a pack of lies. All this company actually want is your money. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR TRAVELS. Then when you try and contact them regarding your stress and worries, they completely switch from happy/excitable, to nasty. Once they have your money, they couldn't care less about you or your travels.

When trying to get help with a cancellation and refund (which I requested only 12 hours after booking) I was told a straight out no. The non-refundable deposit isn't made clear to you in the initial phone call, and the agent stays on the phone with you and rushes you through the T&C's in order for you to finalise your booking.

Also when I contacted the agents for help with a cancellation, I was passed onto different agents who each gave me short and rude answers. One of the agents also did not even know the company web address, and I was told to wait whilst he found out what it was.

So, unless you want to lose out on A LOT of money and deal with extreme unprofessionalism, please avoid this company at all costs. You CAN go travelling without being conned and you CAN do what this company offers for half the price. Unfortunately I didn't do any prior research on the company, as I was forced and pressured into giving a deposit on my first phone call. But I am taking time to write this review in hope that other young and vulnerable individuals do their research, and avoid this company and losing their hard earned money altogether.

When I first contacted Global they promised me a job opportunity in 5 days. I asked to be a waiter or some sort of hospitality because I have experience in that. When I arrived I went through an orientation in which they told me if my job opportunity failed I would be moved to the bottom of the list for finding a job. They said if a job for cleaning toilets arose I should take it. That is the first time they did me wrong because the salesman who sold me this package told me the opportunities were endless and completely lied to me about the reality of the situation. The job opportunity (which had nothing to do with hospitality) they set me up with did not hire and then they recommended another job which I did not want. Now I am in Australia working at a job I found by myself but with a lot less money than I had before I signed up with Global Work and Travel Co.

Side note: They say they help with your taxes but they actually just recommend a tax bureau to use. Also they gave me 5 days free accommodation at a hostel. Another guy got 3 days and another guy got 7 days. They are very disorganized. To prove how disorganized they are, one guy in the program had to fight for a position as a waiter against another girl in the same program. 2 people who bought the Global package were given the same job opportunity. That is neither right nor fair. Global will only get you a job if you have a college degree. Otherwise they are useless and it'll save you money and stress if you do everything yourself. In summary Global lies about how their program actually works. They only want your money. They do not care if you get a job or not because there is a no refund policy.

I am from New Zealand and I traveled to Invermere in Canada. I went with a working traveling visa through Global Work & Travel. They put me in a place called Grand Resort as a server and bartender. When I was in New Zealand, I went through the costs and everything with them. They helped me through customs and in giving me information about the visa. I got put through to visa processing, booked my flights, came over and started working after staying at a hostel in Vancouver.

Everyone at The Global Work & Travel Co. were really nice, especially Christy. Some things I was able to do by myself but they tried to help me. When I came into Vancouver, they did my orientation and everything went really well. They went on to answer all my questions and helped me with all my travel. Some of the people though when I was coming through dealing with everything were a little bit rude to me. But everyone else was nice. There was this one odd person that came like it was blackmail so I just ignored it and continued. I thought it might’ve been a misunderstanding because when we called and talked about it, we sorted it all out.

It’s hard to do everything by myself, especially for the first time. Getting up here has been really different, but now that I'm here, it's a little easier being able to get out, go around in places and maybe meet some friends because I don’t have to worry about a lot of stuff. I’d recommend them especially for first time travel. The experience has been easy and fun. It takes a load off your shoulders if you go through The Global Work & Travel Co.

    Reviewed April 14, 2016

Getting on board with The Global Work & Travel Co. is a great way to lose a lot of money very quickly. I feel very cheated by this company. It's probably best to start from the beginning. When I expressed interest in a overseas working holiday, The Global Work and Travel Co. contacted me to provide information and eventually asked me to sign up for their assistance program which included help getting a visa, accommodation, a mobile telephone overseas, and finding work. When I said I wasn't sure, they told me that the cost of a visa was about to go up and that if I got in now, I would be saving myself money. When I said I still wasn't sure, they offered to lower the deposit sum for me.

Unfortunately I caved to pressure and coughed up the $495 deposit. Then the guy on the phone, Ben, asked me to complete the application form he had just sent to me via email. He said he'd wait on the phone in case I needed any help and that it should only take 20 minutes. Just filling out the information requested took me 20 minutes and when I reached the terms and conditions section, I foolishly skipped reading them and ticked the box (considering Ben who was still on the phone to me as it would have taken another half hour to read).

The next time The Global Work & Travel Co. contacted me, they transferred me to a new department to deal with my visa application and resume. One of the first things they told me was that I could only apply for a visa within 3 months of my planned leave date (and thus I realised that the date I signed up with them had nothing to do with avoiding a rise in visa price). They also placed heavy emphasis on paying the rest of my remaining fees, so I unfortunately gave them another $200. They requested a copy of my passport a work information so that they could get started on my resume and I organised to send it via email. At this point I grew skeptical and realised that the company didn't offer anything I couldn't do for myself pretty easily, and their price was ridiculous considering ($1895). Researching further into the company on the Internet did nothing to calm my nerves either.

I decided to apply for a cancellation, only to have the company reveal their nasty side. Despite the fact that I had only had a few phone calls with them (a tiny fraction of the work they were offering) none of the money I had given them was refundable. And in fact, the company could even charge me further cancellation fees if they had chosen to. I hadn't provided enough information for them to begin making a real profile for me, so I still cannot understand how a few phone calls could warrant a $700 cost. The only answer the company would give me was that they were simply delivering on the terms and condition that I had agreed to.

The only thing I can thank the company for is opening a young man's eyes to the ways of the world. I didn't realise there were companies out there who would willingly prey on naive young people. I don't earn a lot of money so this put a serious dent in my savings for the trip and I can no longer leave at the date I had intended. I hope I can warn people not to make the same mistake I did.

Am currently going through GWTC which has been a great experience so far! Awesome people that I have spoken to that have really helped through particular questions and also the visa process. Reading some other reviews, people have felt pushed into their deposit - neither which myself or partner did - however when it came to paying the balance off, felt a little pressure. We were given $50 off my total balance and $100 off my partner's which is great, don't get me wrong, but as soon as she advised of what was left to pay, (no joke) about 3 seconds later we get asked have we decided. (Who decides that quickly?)

We were advised that if we didn't pay our balance off this was end-Feb, early-March, we might miss out as the ski companies are already hiring. And of course we didn't want the idea of missing out on any preferences or anything. Yet to go through the final stages of the deposit and visa to get told interviews don't actually start until around August. I thought you could lay your trip off over a period? You can't tell me no other processes start until everything is paid off? Very disappointed about the information given at that point.

Also, the amount. I have come to the conclusion it certainly is a worthy amount but could definitely be decreased by $500 at least. When you look into the amount my partner and I paid off, about $3500-$4000 roughly in total, you aren't overall getting much! Yes you get assistance with visa, quotes for flights and insurance, and help with job and accommodation but that is a significant amount of money for anyone to pay. I just think that should be reviewed.

My fiance and myself came to the friendly providence of Quebec at the end of fall (being Australian that's September). Global Work and Travel were so helpful every step of the way, from the job location to giving us advice on the best bars to have a beer in Vancouver. Our first job location is Sutton, on a glamping resort which is camping for the fatter wallet citizens. We converse with about 100 different people every day, we maintain the hiking trails and look after the herd of Scottish highlander cattle.

Since being in Canada we have seen the marvel of Niagara falls, the busy streets of Montreal and Toronto, went sightseeing in old Quebec City, went dog sledding in Saguenay and have seen so many beautiful sights and views. We are planning on doing the over placement over in British Columbia so we can try and see all this country has to offer.

I went through the Global Work and Travel company for my trip to volunteer in Thailand for six weeks. At first they seemed like a great company, very informative. When it came to paying for my trip they were very pushy, but I thought nothing of it. I eventually paid for my trip and flights. I later found out they charged me double the price of the volunteer project and double the price of a round-trip flight to Thailand. They told me all the money was going to WFFT but half of it went to them! They took over three thousand dollars from me. They also tried to charge me $600 for 2 months of travel insurance when I only needed it for 6 weeks.

I ended up going through a travel company in my hometown for travel insurance and only paid $100 and got more coverage than GW&T was offering. I will never go through this company again and I certainly will make sure no one else I know does. If you are looking to volunteer at Wildlife Friends Foundation (one of the projects GW&T offers) please book straight through them! All profits will then go to helping the animals in need. Great company to volunteer for!

Dear Lindsey, very sorry to hear about how you are feeling. Most of the amazing volunteer projects that we've chosen to partner up with don't have the resources to provide one-on-one dedicated coordinators for each traveller, 24/7 support hotline, personalised trip planning, pre-departure guidance, travel concierge to tailor the flexible flight arrangements for you and so on. A lot of these valuable services that you would have also received when you volunteered through us. There are also a lot of factors that play a role in regards to any flight prices (the specific time and date, the route, the airline operator and the flexible ticket policies etc.) or travel insurance quotes (what it covers, and how easy the potential claiming process is for our customers - we only partner up with travel insurance providers who provide the best value for the type of trips that we offer). We can't always beat some of the online airfare deals, but at the same time our airfares are flexible tickets, which provides a lot of benefits for our customers. Once again, we are very sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with your decision to travel with us. If there's anything that we could improve on, or any further feedback that you would have for us, we would highly appreciate it if you could send us some further information to feedback@globalworkandtravel.com so that we could further look into it, clarify any aspects of our products and services, and resolve anything that might be bothering you. We are always looking to continuously provide even higher level of service to all our customers. With all that being said, great to hear that you were happy with the volunteer trip itself and you had a valuable experience making a difference in the project that we've been supporting in every way possible for years! I put down deposit but changed my mind within an hour due to financial pressure. My credit card was charged straight away and was informed that this amount would not be refundable, which was never mentioned in our phone conversations. The conditions were never read out to me and the company just kept insisting on the terms and conditions were in the registration form which I felt I was hurried and pressured to finish without careful read.

I also just read about the warning QLD government had put online regarding to the two companies relating to this company had gone into liquidation in 2015 and the credits and the 10 years validity of their promises are likely to be unfulfilled. The whole experience so far feels like a rip off using a good cause. For them, it's business, nothing to do with helping the poor or give back to the world. I would strongly advise people who are thinking to sign up for their services to think very very carefully. I signed up to do volunteer work but ended up costing me a big lump sum. Be aware!

I was interested in the opportunity to travel and the company did pretty much for me. They did all the organizing and it was a bit easier. Their people have been really good to me. I went to see them in Vancouver at the orientation. They were all professional. They’re all travelers themselves most of the time so they know what I'm talking about and what I wanted to do. They always recommended the best places to go. They catered to individual needs. They helped me with everything and they responded. With The Global Work & Travel Co., I got out in the world, met new people, and learned new things. Now I'm a bit more confident and open to certain things. It's well worth it going with them. Upon first calling up Global Work and Travel, we were bombarded with pushy sales, who danced around our questions and kept asking for a deposit or we'd 'miss out'. We paid the deposit, as the sales person (Bronson) kept guaranteeing us about their great service and guaranteed internship placement. He promised we'd be given a call first thing in the morning, so we waited. Four days later, an hour before their office hours closed, they called back. I was at work, so I couldn't pick up. They didn't call back.

Six days later, fed up, I tried calling them numerous times and emailed them twice. Finally they replied. I asked for my deposit back because they were not delivering the service they provided. They denied my request, even though they hadn't given/done anything at all to assist me. They then continued to try to get me to continue with the trip and pay the rest of the money. I would like my deposit back. Global Work and Travel is pushy and greedy. Do not care about customers.

I first found out about Global Work and Travel whilst exploring the net for something to do in my spare time as well as working at the same time. Initially what I saw was very intriguing to me so I was keen on finding out more, so I put my details forward ONLY for a callback. I think the following day or so I received a call from a guy named Ryan, very talkative and friendly, but I kid you not, what was just meant to be a conversation about more information led to me being somewhat pressured/forced into paying a deposit. At this point I was iffy, I did not understand why I had to pay sooo soon, so I decided to cut the phone as the excuses I was giving wasn't enough for the guy, eventually he was leaving several missed calls, emails and voice mails. I almost felt bad that I was doing something wrong.

I think a month or some weeks passed and the calls eventually stopped and I had some time to think about whether I wanted to commit myself or not. The idea behind the organization is great BUT costly! I made another enquiry and guess who, we have Ryan back again calling me nonstop, pressuring me to pay my deposit. I eventually gave in and made payment, but it was as if I had no choice.

Couple months later and here I am pregnant and now there is definitely no chance of me going anywhere anytime soon. I contacted the trip coordinator whose name is Daniel and he shows little to no sympathy of my situation and tells me that my deposit cannot be refunded, even though the site does not clearly state on the terms and conditions DEPOSIT are NON REFUNDABLE. I am aware that there has not been any confirmation made regarding my arrival as all payment hasn't been made, but some reason my deposit cannot be refunded. I was told that to cancel the trip I would have to put in a written request which I have and hope to hear from the team after 10 days.

I’m from Queensland, Australia and I traveled to Muskoka. I’m in the get-it-all program of The Global Work & Travel Co. and what interested me was it’s such a big move and I have people over here to help me. When I got into Vancouver, they organized for a private driver to take me to the hostel and they’ve booked me there. They gave me all the information that I needed to get a bank account as well as a social insurance number. Jen, the girl I’ve been with at Global Work, have the information for me to get around Toronto which is helping with my travel. They basically did every step of the way and are there in case I needed anything. They kept in contact with me, which is really good. I'm traveling by myself, that’s a pretty big experience and a lot of independence. I've also gained friendships. This experience would affect my day to day life--I’ll be more independent, make my own decisions, take risks.

I went dog sledding today, that was pretty amazing. I also went snowmobiling and that was really great. I don’t know if I would be able to have the same opportunity to have all that done for free through my work and didn't have to pay any bit without them. They're very helpful and reassuring, especially landing in a foreign country that I don’t know a whole lot about.

My partner booked a trip with the company and she felt pressured into paying £700 on top of her £300 deposit. (£1000). She had already decided she did not want to go at this point and no dates for travel or anything else were arranged, contact between herself and the company was few and far between after she decided she didn't want to go and the company, today I am told put this on hold and when she tried to get her money back over the phone she failed to do so as the person on the other end was very pushy. This was over a year and a half ago.

I have read a lot of other reviews online as to this as well. I today had a call from HR in the UK after suggesting I will take this to the small claims court if she does not get her money back and after trying to get over to the lady on the phone she just wants her money back I got the link to get a refund but I was told and have also read online that many people do not get the full amount back. Which is disgraceful when many are young vulnerable people who are easily led into paying vast sums of money.

I have a major document formed from many websites I have put together stating all of these accounts from other unfortunate people and if she is not given the full amount back I will happily chase this up in the small claims court as well as write to the local MP and government for her and others as there has been too many cases of this unless I get the full amount she paid back and no ridiculous fees are added. Getting a refund should have been far more straightforward for her and I do not trust the company to refund the full amount either once she submits the form this evening. It's caused her such emotional distress and she is visibly upset when she brings the topic up or if it is brought up.

Updated on 3/18/2016: After Global Work & Travel had messaged me on here to my previous comment, I am still yet to hear anything back about what is happening with a refund. It's been nearly two weeks since that initial contact on this website. I'm growing ever more frustrated with this now.

I'm from Western Australia and I traveled to Vancouver. I participated in the Global Working Holiday program of the Global Work & Travel Co. They were helpful, great about everything and helped me throughout the process. But I got issued my job and ended up taking it straight up because I was tired of waiting around for a job to call back. I took the housekeeping job at Sun Peaks where the company was called Bear Country. I did a week's work there but resigned with giving only two days notice which I know is not right, but I was on breaking point. I couldn't do that job anymore. So I left Bear Country and I'm back in Vancouver where I had a job waiting for me when I came back.

I'm a little bit cynical, skeptic, and don't have a lot of trust in the company so it's not anyone's fault. But I don't regret any decision I've made and it was in my best interest because I felt Bear Country was so unorganized. The area was fantastic and the people we worked with were fantastic, but they lack proper training, orientation and the hours were nine hours a day. Nonetheless I'm happy that I went through with Global. If I didn't, then I wouldn't have made it to Canada. The hand-holding was good and they did their job well. But in hindsight I could have done it myself and saved myself a lot of money.

    Original Review: Feb. 8, 2016

Looking for alternatives for my 18-year-old daughter's first volunteer experience, I naively completed the "For more Information" section with her contact information at the bottom of this company's website. She was immediately bombarded with sales information and pressured by an Australian salesperson to make an immediate deposit of $695 to secure her spot. When she enquired whether this deposit was refundable, he would not provide her with a straight answer, saying, "Yes, it could be used for other things like airfare". When she enquired further, whether it had to be with Global Work and Travel or if it could be with another company, she again was given evasive answers. Still, she felt very pressured and was persuaded to give out her credit card number (she had just received her first credit card). Immediately, she felt uneasy, and two hours later, she contacted the company by email to request a refund of the deposit.

After several days and two phone calls by me (my first call wasn't returned), the Manager, Trevor, said that he would investigate the situation and get back to my daughter by the end of the day on February 5, 2016. He made this promise to both my daughter by email and to me by phone. February 5 came and went with no response from Trevor. My email message and phone message since then have not been responded to. My daughter suffers from a chronic illness and this situation has been very stressful for her. She was not provided with clear information by the salesperson that the deposit is non-refundable. We request an immediate refund of the $695 deposit.

The team at global were all very helpful from beginning to end, well to now at least, they easily communicated with my mum while I was out of the country and didn't have internet readily available all the time, to organise flights and insurances amongst other stuff.

Even after I had left Australia, when I was having pay issues at my place of employment and I had been chasing down my employer for 2 weeks, I contacted them for help and it was organised within a day. The Global Work & Travel Co. is pretty supportive. There was an orientation, consistent phone calls and emails. They're always there whenever you have a question, no matter what time of day it is. I took part in the Get A Lot program that helps you out, no matter where you're coming from, to get settled into Canada and making sure that you had everything ready to go before you started work.

I was contacted by Eddie from the work and travel co. He went through all the things that would happen very quickly and rushed. He then said he'd put me through to the finance team and I said I couldn't because I was in work. He told me I could at least take 5 minutes to put my payment through even after telling him I couldn't pay the deposit because I wouldn't have a reliable source of income after that day because my contract was ending. He called me the next day and put me through to the finance team and said I should talk to them. I was put through to them, reluctantly, and was pressured by this person to pay my deposit then. I told them I still couldn't pay because it would take my last bit of wages I had and I still had to pay for food, rent, electricity, heating, mechanic fees and my phone bill until the next pay day.

Being that I am only 17 they should not have even gone through with this payment without speaking to a parent or carer. I was pressured and wasn't allowed to go back and talk to "Eddie" until I had paid it. I couldn't even hang up as they had been repeatedly calling me hounding for payment. I was bullied into paying the deposit and now I have no trust of faith in the company and just want my deposit back and to be done with the company and have no contact with them.

I'm from Australia and Global Work & Travel Company interested me because I didn't have a lot of time on my hands to look for work in Canada. Global was going to do most of the work for me. My travel coordinator was efficient and responded to all my emails in a timely manner. I've only been in Canada for about a month and a half and I'm still going through all the motions of being in another country but I certainly want to take all these experiences back at home and I would recommend them. The cost is quite high but it depends on whether people want to pay that money or not. I was happy to do it to save myself some time.

I had a lovely time chatting with your Customer Service representative, and was excited to go as an Au Pair to Italy. I was told there needs to be a deposit of $695 paid to secure my spot. I told the lady I was talking to that I may or may not be able to pay it. I did not have enough money. My agent had told me that $200 was fine to put down. I told her that I couldn't put that down until I knew that for one, if it was off hold, and that I could use it. She told me to sign up and put in all my information, including my card information. She said that I would not just be charged, and that she would call me the next day to make sure I would be able to pay the $200. I was told that money WOULD NOT just be taken out without a call FIRST.

I looked in my account the next morning AND $495 has been taken out of my account, leaving me with an overdraft, and NO MONEY whatsoever. I have tried to contact ANYONE from Global Work and Travel by phone and have not been answered ONCE, by ANYONE. I even left a message for the agent that assisted me to call me back and she has not. But what's funny is that she would call me incessantly to ask for my deposit before this happened. I am extremely upset, and NEED my money back as I never gave permission for the transaction to go through, and was told that it would not. Not to mention that I now have NEGATIVE funds to support myself and I have bills and other things to pay. This is extremely disappointing, and I would like this to be resolved asap.

The Global Work & Travel Company's working holiday was a way for me to get to Canada. I'm a trained chef so I always like to go with a company backing instead of just going on my own. I took part in the working holiday program. I had seven days when I landed in Vancouver and Toronto to apply through Global Work & Travel. They set me up with a bank account and a special TIN number. It was a bit slow on the build-up, but that was because the job market hasn't opened up. Then it was all go within a week and get ready to travel within a couple of days. I travelled to Toronto and I started to work at Blue Mountain about two days after that. They keep in contact so I know I got their support until the end of this year, at least, and probably until next year when I'm still working here.

Since participating in the program, I've learned how to snowboard within three days and I've fallen in love with it. That and living on-site with 16 other people in a staff housing up at Blue Mountain is quite interesting. Working in Canada is also different from working in Australia where I am from. It's a lot bigger in aspect. Because I'm a trained chef, I'm used to working with a crew of three or four. There's a bit more, about seven are inside this brigade system. Working at a resort is a bit different, too, because there's snow. We don't get snow in Australia so we have got to learn with that to minus 20 and 30. It's an interesting adaptation to go to work with more layers on.

The most attractive thing about is that they sorted everything out like the bank stuff, social insurance, flights, mobile phone, and job interviews which struck me as a little bit hard if you didn't know what you're doing and doing it on your own. Once I got here in Canada, everything went smoothly in terms of my job. There were no surprises and everyone knew I was coming.

When I first heard about The Global Work & Travel Co. I was very excited. When I called to get more information I spoke with Josh from a Canadian office. Instead of getting the information I desired Josh continued to express how important it was to get a $595 USD deposit down to reserve my spot. As I felt more and more pressured I caved to the deposit. As I did more research on the company I had found so many instances of the same sales practices being used on others. I was pressured to put down the deposit and after that I was transferred to another representative in Australia named Jason. This is when it really got bad for me.

Jason, without any approval whatsoever, approved my credit card (the same card I used for deposit) for my remaining balance of $1250. I was shocked. How could a company do that? Charge my card for something I never approved or never even knew about. Earlier that same day I expressed to Jason that I did not have the money to spend at the moment and that it was very important that I waited to pay off my remaining balance. He just went and did it anyway. Yes I have been refunded the $1250 and he did apologize, but it felt like he was doing this to test how I would react and see if it would be ok with me, if I would let it slide.

This entire experience I have felt pressured and uncomfortable. I have felt belittled by this company. They are so committed to sell they disregard their misleading sales practices. They never verbally tell you that the deposit is not refundable. A reputable company would disclose this to you verbally before you purchase, in order to avoid instances like this, but they don't. They only want the sale. This upsets me the most because after my card was charged without my permission I completely lost trust in this company. I want my deposit back because I have no trust in this company and do not and will not ever want to do business with them in the future.

With Global Work and Travel, I felt like once I had paid the money, there was a lot of pressure just to keep paying Global money in terms of a high charge for insurance and an extremely high charge for the flight. I felt all that was far too expensive but I was beyond the point where I could back out because I’d already sent the deposit. I think that all the rest of the cost were too high and talking to everybody else, they all think that there’s a lot of pressure tactics. Even the accommodation is extremely expensive for what we had. I don’t know why it’s so high. Whether Global gets a kickback from it or not, I have no idea and it’s not really my business. I think it’s a deal that would strike anyone as slightly extortionist. But you can’t argue with the results. I’ve earned and got jobs and I’ve always got a place to live.

Our experience with The Global Work & Travel was terrible. When we called them, originally they told us everything would be $1,300 and we paid that. A few months down the line, they said we owe them $3,500 for the flights. Because we didn't want to pay for the flights they charged us $350 to not go through them. Then they dropped on us that we have to pay for our own visas and bus trip. We also don't have free accommodation in Vancouver for the first ten days like they told us so I'm now sitting flat broke in the middle of Canada and completely aggravated. They, however, got me a job. This is literally the worst company I've ever dealt with, and I've not met one person who has had a good experience with them.

About a year ago, I saw a little ad on Facebook. I've always been keen on snowboarding, so I put my phone number, e-mail and name down, and Global called me the next morning. I was a bit hesitant at the start, but I then asked for all the paperwork and read through them and it seemed legit. So I put the deposit down and then we began organizing my visa. I had 12 months to organize everything and in about six months in, I had everything organized. Everything was easy up until then.

One problem I had, however, was with my visa, which was a little fine detail they missed out on. When it came to booking my flights, I made sure I had everything, but it turned out I didn't have my letter of entry approved yet. So, there's a bit of miscommunication between me and my agent. I didn't have to go yet, but I let them know of it as I didn't want to get to Vancouver and get sent back. Eventually, we were able to sort it out overnight and had to re-arrange my flights.

Another little hiccup was when I arrived at the airport. I didn't have a phone and I couldn't call anyone, so I had to work out how to use a payphone to contact my agent. I didn't know that there will be a shuttle service taking me to my hostel as she forgot to e-mail the coupon to me. She then emailed it, and then I jumped in the shuttle. I got to my hostel and everything was sweet about it. I paid the five nights in Vancouver, which was fine. I then jumped on the Greyhound and arrived in Fernie at 2am. I didn't know that the hostel that I'm staying there will be closed. Luckily, some people that I let share the cab with me let me crash on their couch. Nevertheless, it all worked out in the end. Since then, I had two weeks off. This week, I spent Monday to Wednesday working. Since I've started working, it's been crazy, and I can't complain. The Global team is fine and I'm pretty happy with it.

My aim is to not only get a full refund but also compensation for wasting my time, money, failure to comply with the Goods and Services Act 1982 and for breaching many terms in their supposed service. I want to prevent any other travellers from using this horrendous company.

I have no problem in the company keeping money for the week accommodation at the Islander Hostel and the bus transfer from the airport to the hotel. These I had no problems with and were everything I expected. The staff at the Hostel were friendly and courteous. I have inquired on price and it was $32 per bed per night in the month of July 2015 (Tana@ Reception of the Islander Hotel, 6 Beach Road, Surfers Paradise, QLD) = $224 and the bus transfer from Con-x-ion Shuttles Company is $49 = $273 = £131.11 in total (according to current exchange rates). The mobile phone they gave me in the Orientation did not work for the first week or so.

I had problems with its charger and could not charge my phone. When it eventually charged, every time I tried to speak with anyone on it, the phone would cut out. I checked the credit status of the phone and it was in credit. I discovered the only reason why it cut out so frequently was simply because the phone was a cheap and useless phone. I researched the price of the mobile and to no surprise it was only $49 = £23.53!!! So in total they had spent £154.64 out of the £995 I had been pressured into paying before I departed. I then started to question - where did my money go? Where did the remaining £840.36 get spent on? I understand that there may have been admin/business overheads but surely not to that expense?

I paid £995 for the Get It All package, under the written and verbal impression given by sales agents, travel coordinators and pre/post departure agents, that I will be offered MANY benefits included a guaranteed unlimited amount of guaranteed job opportunities. The benefit of having unlimited amount of job opportunities was the sole reason why I chose this package - I thought I would always be secure in a job offered by GWAT (and their contacts/network) and this made me feel that the huge upfront price was more acceptable. I understand that they are a business and need to make money. I only realised later how much money they were scamming us new travellers for!!!

Initially, Rebecca called me and was very friendly and upbeat which excited me into the programme. I didn't respond for a few weeks due to my grandfather passing away and so I was emailed twice with the threat of I've been unable to reach you so I will, unfortunately, have to deactivate your file if I do not receive a response in the next 24 hours to make room for our more serious applicants. This made me feel as if the spaces were limited and I was up against other potential candidates for something I had to pay for. As a sales person myself, I understand certain tactics can be used so I let this slide. However, the pushiness got worse I let Rebecca know I was interested and the very next day I was asked to pay the deposit of £295. Obviously this is a big financial commitment to make in itself straight away after speaking with someone via telephone for an hour or so!!!

I was sent this the day after as I couldn't pay straight away! Unfortunately, I can't keep your profile on hold anymore as you weren't able to put down your deposit yesterday to secure your placement. As you are wanting to go this July we do need your deposit down ASAP as by the end of the week you will be looking at going in August. I felt as if I was being forced into this working holiday and I even made Rebecca aware of how I felt.. The language used in the email was aggressive and unnecessary. I was getting very skeptical and concerned at this point.

This was my first time travelling completely on my own and I felt I was being pushed into making a decision. The way they lure you in is very, very sneaky, sly and manipulative. Rebecca had painted such a wondrous picture of what adventure could be had, that I felt forced to transfer the funds immediately. I had to borrow the money from my mother in order for me to secure my dream working holiday. Rebecca was very insistent and pushy to get the money. I had made Rebecca aware of my concern via email and that I felt pressured into paying- it was no longer something that I looked forward to.

After I had paid my deposit I was still being chased for the remainder. I then informed Rebecca that I could only pay for the remainder when I got paid from work which was on 29th May 2015. This was agreed, but I would have to wait up to 2 weeks of arriving for the right job placement as I was making a late payment. I had no problem with this. I paid 700 a few days earlier than agreed on 27th May 2015. From the email requests of lengthy cvs/application form filings and by speaking with Rebecca, I really believed they were finding me the most suitable job according to my background. After all, they claimed to have over 1200+partners and 20,000 satisfied customers, so of course with this kind of sized network, they would find me a job.

At this point, I felt that a 1-2 week wait for a suitable job was worth the wait. But again this was all part of their sneaky sales tactics. I got excited when I got sent a link to My Account and the Global Job Board thinking that this is the beginning of the opportunities that lay ahead. Unfortunately, it was just a link to an external job recruiter who had nothing to do with GWAT. I just thought this may be a glitch and still kept my hopes up for what my money was paying for. They were so persistent in getting the cv filled in correctly and getting as much information from me in terms of my experience that I genuinely believed they would be working hard to search for the most suitable job that would be available for me. I was made aware that the job opportunities may be at entry level in my chosen fields which was events, promotions, sales, retail and I didn't mind a little bar work.

I had no issue with working from entry level up (I'm used to that culture from working in sales for over 7 years), however I explicitly stated that I would not accept or be happy working with food and face to face sales. I have little to no experience with food and I really do not enjoy face to face/ field sales. Those were my only two restrictions with seeking a job and what a surprise these were my only two opportunities that I was offered. One was a food and beverage assistant in Gold Coast via email and the other as a face to face fundraiser which was verbally offered. I refused both as both were completely irrelevant to me. As I understood, I had guaranteed unlimited Job Opportunities and since I had paid such an extortionate amount towards this service, I expected at least something of relevance. (Please read below under BENEFITS? for a more detailed account of the job offers).

During the email exchanges prior to departure, they had offered me a discounted rate on their travel insurance. This was again an extortionately priced offer of roughly around £1800 for 6 months!!! This was wildly beyond what I had anticipated as a discount. I refused their ridiculously priced insurance and began to research my own. I quickly found another company called DU Insure.com / Downunder Insurance and paid £107.62 for their Comprehensive Cover of 6 months. This covered everything that I needed including cover for my epileptic condition and any adversities that may occur. This signaled to me that GWAT is just a money making scheme.

Again, I felt I was on an emotional rollercoaster- torn between an adventure and shelling out cash for me to make my dream into reality. This company sets out to make money at any time. They even state to take extra cash for the duration of your stay in Australia It is also important that you are financed sufficiently for the length of your stay Although you will be working, you should have some backup funds. I now understand why they want you to be financed sufficiently during the stay. They have no intention of giving you unlimited amounts of relevant job opportunities. They will dismiss your lengthy cv and placement forms only to fob you off with the very limited amount of irrelevant connections they actually have. Their main aim is to get your money and then leave you to your own devices.

I flew out to Melbourne a few days after my orientation and then I heard absolutely nothing from GWAT for a month. Just when I had given up hope on GWAT, I received an email from them asking how my trip was going and that they had tried to contact me which was not true at all. I had received no contact from the company whatsoever. I responded to inform them that I was upset with their service and worried that I had not received job opportunities from them. They then responded with the claim that they had been trying to get in touch with me when I had received no emails/ calls/ contact previous to this. I had given up on their lies and decided to focus on getting a job and not waste any more of my time on their scandalous ways.

I eventually had to leave Australia due to being in such dire circumstances of having no money left and no job! I was very disheartened and disappointed to the point of becoming depressed all because of GWATs lack of customer service and fulfillment on their said guaranteed service. I then arrived back home and started speaking with other travellers who had a very similar experience with GWAT. They had also paid the full amount of £995 for the Get It All Package and was left with nothing but stress, anger and debt. (I have included their stories in this email.)

I genuinely believed I was the only one who had maybe had a bit of bad luck with this company but as I delved further into researching the company I found a vast array of stories, reviews, newspaper articles and even youtube videos that proved this company was a money making ploy with no intention of offering a good, valuable service to its customers. (Please see the attached links page for all of the sources.) I have listed below detailed personal accounts disproving their falsely advertised benefits which lure the traveller in and leave them with nothing.

BENEFITS? Visa assistance, bank card set up, tax file number, mail and luggage storage. In the initial email exchanges, I was under the impression that GWAT would give me lots of information in regards to acquiring the Visa. They simply sent me a link - a link that I already were fully in the knowledge of. I applied for my Visa using my own research. They did set up my Tax File Number and I had no issues with this whatsoever. So I was happy with this. The bank card was a mystery to me - I applied for it myself and wanted it to be delivered to the GWAT HQ in QLD. However, they never sent me my bank card. I called and emailed a few times to see where my card had got to and heard no response back. I was eventually told by a member at GWAT that I had some post and so my thoughts were to let my landlord know that I could pay her via transfer from my new bank account.

Unfortunately, due to the sheer incompetence of the staff, they had actually got it wrong and it was not my bank card- it was just my tax file number which I already had!! So I had to inform my landlord of this and she was not happy. They then wanted me to pay upfront $800 to give them some security as I had no bank card. If GWAT had stuck to their word of being a mailing address for me and had actually got their information correct I would not have been in this adverse situation. My landlord wanted the money upfront and as I clearly could not rely on GWATs extortionately useless service, I was then asked to vacate the flat. I was even more stressed out. I already had the issue of looking for my own work and then I had the search of a home to contend with.

To have a guaranteed unlimited amount of guaranteed job opportunities - I was given a single opportunity as a food and beverage assistant in Gold Coast. This was not relevant to me in terms of location or experience. I was infuriated by this suggestion especially after I had specifically stated I only wanted to work in office based sales, admin, retail, promotions or events in Melbourne. I even confirmed this via email that I had already found my apartment in Melbourne CBD and so I needed to be in a job that was at least within the same state. I didn't understand why the lengthy process of application forms, CVs and job profiles was needed if I would be placed into a job of complete irrelevance!!

This was a pointless exercise to make you as a traveller believe that they will be working hard to find you a job, when in actual fact.. they take your money and splash out on their lavish headquarters in Queensland. They do not have clients that they work closely with. I was in actual shock when I spoke to the lady who conducted the Orientation and One to One. She actually said plain and clear that they did not have any connections or jobs available for me, Melbourne. I specifically requested a job in Melbourne months before arriving!!! I do not understand how a company with 1200+ Partner Organisations does not have a single relevant connection in Melbourne.

They wanted me to serve food and beverages in which I have no experience in! If I have paid £995 surely they can find the resources and staff to find me a job? At this point, I realised I had completely wasted my money!! I was infuriated and my heart sank. This was all a SCAM! They then later announced they had suddenly found a job in Melbourne fundraising face to face!!! AGAIN. This was not acceptable. I had specifically stated that these were the only two types of jobs I would not be happy working in. The only two!! Out of hundreds and thousands of possible vacancies that were available in Melbourne.. these were the only two that a industry leader could offer??!! I was outraged!

I then decided that this company was useless. They just made my life much more difficult instead of taking away any stress or fears. If GWAT had actually delivered on what they had guaranteed and promised, I would not have been so stressed out during this time. My money was running out.. and I had to find a job on my own accord. I found a few jobs that were office based and in Melbourne CBD and so I applied and got a job. I didn't understand why GWAT had such an issue in finding me a relevant job especially since I could find one that suited my criteria?

I was very happy in my job and unfortunately the work had then run out and so I was back on the job hunt. I was then unable to pay for my rent as I had no job and had to move into a hostel. I got a job working at the hostel as part of their promotions team and in exchange for work I was given free accommodation and a few meals. I was under immense stress and became depressed to the point of me having to leave Australia and come back home. However, if GWAT actually remained consistent and offered the services of supplying unlimited job opportunities then I would never have been in this position. They did nothing but give me stress and leave me broke!!

Free bar, wildlife and jet ski tours - I was under the impression that GWAT would be offering a few free tours and I wrote that this had been guaranteed to me in the application form. I later found out at the Orientation that I could choose one of the tours and this would be at a discounted rate. I had already met people earlier on in the week who worked for this tour company and they offered me free entry and other added bonuses. So there was no point of using GWAT. Their extra benefits were completely bogus and they knew it. I did not go on their tour as I sure as hell was not going to pay a single penny more to GWAT for a discounted tour when I was initially promised 3 tours included in the price. Another falsely advertised failure in their overpriced service.

To further prove that this company is nothing but a scam. I have contacted other customers and found they had very similar experiences and lost lots of money too. We all feel that they played on our desires and emotions to gain a new adventure and then delivered nothing. It is disgusting!!! We would all like a refund and compensation for putting us in a worse off position. Furthermore and more importantly, we want to prevent any other travellers from being scammed!! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'm from Brisbane, Australia and I traveled to Calgary in Canada through Global Work & Travel Working Holiday program. They made me feel comfortable during the orientation. They also helped me get settled. They found me a job so I have a bank account, phone number and a lot of important stuff. Right now because the job I got didn't have staff accommodation, I have to find a place to live. I'm in a hostel and just traveling to work and chilling around on my days off. They've been very helpful except for one from the Surfers Paradise office, who was rude and horrible. In general, I am satisfied. I would recommend them to other people but not to friends because it's too expensive.

I traveled to Canada from Australia. It's something out of my comfort zone and completely a different experience, changing my lifestyle and the way I approach what I wanted to do in life. All my friends and family are around my age, so interacting with people ten years younger than me during the program has been worthwhile and very beneficial. We share goals, ideas and interests. I'd been closed off from friends and family for the last two years so it's good to open up again with other people which has made me more confident. There have been hiccups along the way but I would still recommend The Global Work & Travel Co. because everybody has been helpful. They're all fantastic. It's been four weeks and I did early on most of the activities so now, I'm just relaxing for the last two weeks.

I participated in the program of The Global Work & Travel Co. where I paid about $1700 for five nights in Vancouver, basically because they did everything for you. I'm currently only about a month into the program, and the Canadian office was a lot better and I had a much better experience with it than the Australian office. With the Australian office, I've had a bit of troubles, but with the Canadian office, they did everything for me and answered all my stupid questions. They're fantastic. It's a program that makes you grow up a little bit and experience new culture. It's been amazing.

I’m doing room attending at the moment for the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel. I’ve got that job pretty much straight out, really quick, there was no fuss, and no mucking around. Christy was helping me through my entire time. She was an absolute gem. She set me up with all that, going from one place to the other, and getting the job, which was really easy. Everything fell into place. I didn’t have to do anything. I’ve only been here for nearly two weeks and it’s easy to meet people. I didn’t have any drama or anything. I did a few hikes up here in the mountains in Vancouver and it's beautiful to see.

I'm happy with what I've paid for. I feel like I've got my money's worth. The staff at The Global Work was good. They are sometimes quick to respond and informative. I only emailed them beforehand on the program and when we got to Vancouver, the orientation was well done. They definitely followed through on what we're promised. They got us to travel quickly. I bought the Get It All package for the working holiday and it was good. In the program that I signed up to, the program coordinators line me up with interviews to jobs over here in Jasper, Alberta, which is good. Also it included means like airport transfer, five nights accommodation in Vancouver when I landed. They help you set up your bank account and your tax identification number. They helped you out with mobile phone, day-to-day life here. I'm just working as a bartender. But that's pretty fun and that's good.

I figured out that life here is very different to back home. The cold is probably the biggest thing. The Global Work & Travel Company advertised the program as one would only need to set up in a country, and they would seek out the jobs, visas, etc. We got the whole working holiday program which was their most expensive package. It’s pure laziness on my part but I liked the ease of getting a job here in Canada. At first they were phoning and sending us emails. Then, when we got to Canada from England, we went to their office and met The Global Work & Travel Company team. It was all very good. We told them the things we wanted to do and they organized themselves around that. The structure of the program was what we wanted so it was fair.

They’re also good at communicating. However, as soon as they got the money, the communication dropped a little. I suppose the actual team that sought out the Canada arrivals is a bit busier than the team that’s trying to get money off the program. Other than that, it was pretty satisfactory. They were organized and friendly.

I'm from Australia and went here in Canada for a working holiday using Global Work and Travel. I've only been working and that part has been good. However, I had a few issues with one of their people in Australia named Ashley. She was very pushy and difficult to interact with. But apart from her, everyone else has been amazing, especially Jen. She was incredible to work with and she made everything so much easier. Global Work and Travel is a fun group to work and interact with. The knowledge they have of the country and where I was going was a lot more than I had. They were a big help.

I'm from Albany, Western Australia and traveled to Banff, Canada. The Global Work & Travel Co. got me the first job and they try to look for accommodation and help get insurance number and a bank card, and set up. Going to Canada was great. I don't know that they helped a lot because a lot of the stuff could have been easily done. It was because I was moving countries so I wanted the security. I didn't know how easy it would be to get housing or jobs but where I am, it's easy and I like it. I definitely didn't need Global because I did my own flight insurance anyway. I had to pay a fee to them because I didn't use the flight insurance but it was still cheaper. Some people were very helpful and there were others who weren't helpful at all. I wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

It has taken me about two years to write this review - partly because I wanted to forget about this awful company. I used Global Work and Travel Co. to gain placement as a volunteer in Cambodia so I cannot speak about their effectiveness as a work agency. Luckily my four months in Cambodia were amazing but it had nothing whatsoever to do with this ineffective company who honestly gave me so many sleepless and stressful nights. They were so super helpful before I handed any money over and then as soon as money was exchanged all contact pretty much ceased. Emails and questions would go unanswered or replied to shoddily.

After paying to volunteer (this did include accommodation and food) I was told I had to book flights and insurance through them also. It was about four times the price of flights I was finding myself online! I flat out refused to purchase the flights and had to pay a fee for this (250NZD). This fee had been halved because I accepted their insurance deal which was exorbitant. I am no longer dealing with one person and am told by someone that I can sort my visa out in Phnom Penh when I arrive. Do not worry about doing it, before I am explicitly told via email. I arrive in Phnom Penh expecting to see Global Work and Travel as this is the impression they give you. No, I am greeted by someone from Star Kampuchea who is the locally run organisation in charge of everything. I cannot speak highly enough of the people who work here! They are immediately horrified to learn I have no visa.

I find out that I have to LEAVE Cambodia and re-enter again to get my work visa. So ultimately a company that purports to help with every step of the process encouraged me to enter the country without a visa. I then have to leave Cambodia - luckily this was a really nice trip away and I made sure to make them pay for the whole ordeal. Honestly I only managed this because I was on their case about their ineptitude with constant emails. To their credit Rachel (not sure if she still works there) was understanding. She tried to weasel them out of responsibility at first but after a week or so she began to see where I was coming from and worked with me rather than against. My work placement at CCIM was really enjoyable - I had to have a media related degree to work at this independent news outlet, which was what initially attracted me to Global Work and Travel Co. BUT I could have done all of this without GWT!

I am only really posting this review as a warning, one that I wish I could have seen a couple of years ago, one that would have eliminated a middleman who only complicated matters! Please if you are reading this and looking to volunteer in Phnom Penh, Star Kampuchea is an excellent organisation (from my experience in 2013) run by local people. Their costs seem to work out so that they are essentially just charging you for room and board and they are super helpful. When my best friend's phone and wallet were stolen they took us to all the different police stations that we had to go through without asking for so much as a cent. We would have never gained the necessary paperwork for her insurance claim without them!

I would never advise anyone to use this company, ever. I originally booked a working holiday trip to Canada, paid over $5000 for them to organise and assist me in finding a job. 3 weeks before I was due to leave, I got a back injury and had to postpone my trip. I originally postponed as I thought I would still be able to go at a later date. I then found out that the injury was so bad that I had to have surgery at which point I then tried to cancel with Global. Global absolutely refused to give me any money back and when I tried to claim it on insurance, I found I had no policy set up which I had paid them to do when first booking my trip.

I then investigated further and discovered that global hadn't even booked me any flights! They claimed I couldn't get a refund due to admin costs when they hadn't even booked my flights or travel insurance 3 weeks from my departure date. After 2 years of constantly struggling/corresponding with this company, I managed to get a small refund but definitely not what I should have received. I also currently have a claim against them through the office of Fair Trading as they are being investigated.

We traveled to Québec Canada using The Global Work & Travel Network and got a two-year work visa. Jen, from the Canadian office, took the majority of our stuff and found us the jobs. It's right up our alley, what we’re after. When we got here, Samantha was our next point of call. She was the one that took us to the banks. She did her job perfectly. We only had three days because the employers wanted us to start working as soon as possible, so they got everything jam-packed down into those days.

Then we had all our employers organized, but we’ve actually found one who would take us for the two years flat, so we stayed in one place. They got 320 acres, like a big farm and did a lot of glamping on the weekends and during the week. So we've got log cabins and they come out to go camping. They had general cleaning and everything like customer service. For what they've done for us, it's been great and would highly recommend them to everybody.

Global Working Holiday & Travel Co. is a disgrace for a company. They have taken $2000 off me and have not helped me one bit in finding a job or assistance with my visa. They wouldn't stop calling me to get my money and once they received it their customer service levels dropped enormously and didn't want to help me until I paid another fee which was an outrageous amount for a one way ticket to Canada and insurance $4700!!! This company is refusing to give my money back or downgrade my package which is absurd since they have not provided me with hardly any assistance and was not upfront about what their company does and does not help me with.

I urge anyone who is thinking about using this company to definitely NOT and go with a company that my friend went through called "The working holiday club" which he said was a great experience. This company is a waste of your money and time and has put me entirely off my trip to Canada which I am no longer going on because of them. The staff are rude and don't want to help.

From beginning to end I felt like I was being helped through the GWAT Co. My initial experience was a pleasant one and very informational. They did something right, as they had me sold from the very first time I spoke to a representative. There was a little confusion with some information I was given mid way through the process, but by the time I was matched with my rep in Aussie I was "sweet-as" as the Kiwis say! I didn't finish the Au Pair Programme, as it wasn't something I was suited for. But if you're good with kids, and don't mind feeling like you're the big sister of a family then it could be for you. Would never use this company again and will continue to convince like minded friends out of going with them. I paid $1500 for a package to assist with finding a job while overseas. I later found out that they cannot actually charge for finding employment and that the $1500 fee was for the extras like 3 nights hostel accommodation, assistance with tax refund, airport transfer, etc. When I was enquiring about the product, I was told many people had already used the program in Italy only to find out I was one of the first. When I was doing my application I was told I had to take their flights or organise flights of my own within 2 days (a little difficult to organise flights to go overseas when you don't know when you would be starting work). I enquired how much flights would be to Europe and they said it would cost just over $1900 for my one way ticket.

Obviously as a previous traveller I went to a travel agent instead considering I could purchase a return ticket for only $1500. I purchased my flights and then underwent their incredibly lengthy process. I'm glad that I started 5 months before I was going to be leaving as they didn't start looking for a position for me until the last 3 weeks. Instead I had to provide lots of documents and pay for police checks, first aid certificates, references, etc. and also my visa. Despite the claim that they assist with getting your visa, they don't. I went to the consulate and they asked the address I would be going to in Italy. I obviously could not provide this as I hadn't been found a position yet. This made it difficult to get my visa, however they approved it. I contacted GWTC where I was asked on how much money I had to have as they didn't even know how much to advise their clients for the minimum amount required by visa regulations.

After 4 months they now started to look for a position for me. The first that they offered me did not suit me nor their regulations that I would have my own room and not share with the child. The second family I was offered I accepted as I only had 2 weeks before I was flying out and didn't have time to figure out if they were right for me or not. I arrived in Italy and was greeted by the family. They were very nice but I was also treated like a slave for my 9 month experience with them. When I arrived in Italy I had to finalise some documents for my visa and was not helped at all by GWTC or the family I was now living with. It was very difficult as I did not speak the language and Italian procedures are all over the place. I was told 3 separate times to use the post office and 3 times to use the head police station. No one could tell me where I needed to go and eventually ended in the fetal position crying and wanting to go home.

I managed to figure out what I had to do but had submitted my documents late which was surprisingly ok with Italian authorities. I messaged GWTC to order my 3 nights hostel accommodation and was advised they could not complete this as I had not given 3 weeks notice but was not advised of this before. Later I messaged with 3.5 weeks notice and was later instructed that they now required 4 weeks notice. I asked if I could use my airport transfer to be advised that this was actually the family that had collected me. I had been given a $100 travel voucher to use as I had joined during a promotion. I never received my travel voucher as I was now advised that I could only use this on future programs with them or on my return flights.

Obviously I wasn't going to pay $1900 to return either so I forgot about it. There is no tax return assistance as you are paid in cash and therefore don't require to do one. They advertise a lot of things that they don't actually offer. I was registered with an Italian agency whilst overseas later to find out that it only cost another girl 200 euros. So essentially I paid $1500 and got absolutely nothing out of it and then later found out about ** which is an online website free of charge where you can speak directly with the families and organise your own conditions. I would never recommend this company to someone. Overall I am happy about my experience overseas and it has definitely helped me grow but I do not feel like GTWC has contributed in my experience overseas and wish I had just done it by myself and looked for a job rather than being scared of potentially overseas and not having anything.
