I am a long-time Hotwire customer and disappointed with a recent purchase. The Hotrate deals are supposed to be 60% off and I found the same rate directly thru the Hotel Benjamin in NYC. Further - the rating of 4.5 stars for the Benjamin is not accurate. Thus no deal. Hotwire used to be special. It is no longer fulfilling its promise.

I booked a vacation for Christmas 2019. As soon as I booked, I realized I must have clicked on the wrong hotel. I called them right away and let them know about the mistake. They said, they would have to give it to a specialist to contact the hotel and see if I could switch it to the other property which by the way, was the same brand hotel, just down the street and it also cost more. They told me they would call me in 24 hours. They never did. I called back and they said still in a week, they never made contact with the hotel. They called while I was on the phone and the hotel said, no I could not switch. This is 6 months in advance. I would have to be penalized the entire cost for the 8 day stay.

I booked a car rental through Hotwire. They insisted that it be prepaid, giving the excuse that the card were limited in quantity. Upon trying to pick up the car, the agency could not rent it. Hotwire refused to issue a refund. This seems like a case of pure fraud. I feel like my prepayment was stolen.

The ad said book now because prices are going to go up. So I booked a car rental, and it did say no refunds. But a few days later it went down $90 and right before my trip it went down $160 for a week. I called and the guy said there were no refunds and said, "What would you have done if the price went up."

Worst customer service ever. Will be posting in every media outlet about my experience!!! Rented a car to drive to my uncles wake, the location changed so I no longer needed the car rental (out of my control) and when I attempted to cancel they said, "No problem just send us a copy of the service" etc. Sent in a couple of days after service and they say he isn’t blood so have a nice day. A few other baloney excuses and explanations were exchanged and in the end Hotwire does not help anyone but themselves!! It wasn’t for a hotel or airfare. We’re talking a $90 car rental. Pay the little extra and go with anyone else. Shoot I’d even say Expedia is better or Travelocity but do not use Hotwire, their hot deals are a hot mess.

Somehow when my husband was reviewing their site and never booked or confirmed anything, they charged our credit card for an airline ticket. He had put in info on another site but somehow Hotwire site must still have been opened and our CC info was received involuntarily. We have no idea how they received our CC info but we for sure know we did not approve or authorize this charge. We were unaware of this until we received the Credit Card bill of almost $900. I have had issues prior with them and WILL NEVER utilize their service again. One customer service rep was trying to help but no authority. Now has me on hold for 50 minutes and I am still holding. I guess this is one of their tactics. They want you you to hang up. The worst customer service experience I have EVER had. There should be ZERO stars.

Booked McGovern's Motel on Hotwire and this place was the worst hotel I've ever pulled into. It looked like a crackhouse. Right away I feared for the safety of my family. Upon entering the room and pulling the bed back, we IMMEDIATELY found a bedbug. I went to the front office and the attendant refused to come down. She would only communicate through the intercom. Hotwire was also horrible for help and I tried getting it resolved for over an hour. Btw this was after driving 10+ hours and arriving at this dump at 11:45 at night. I can't believe Hotwire would ever even partner with them.

So I foolishly booked a car through Hotwire for my trip to Las Vegas. Was given Ace Car Rental, which is rated 1 on Yelp and a generous 2 on Google Reviews. Why would Hotwire associate with such a poorly rated place? Will never, ever risk booking a car or hotel with Hotwire again.

Don’t use this site. I am VERY angry with them. I got one of their “hot deals” at the Rodeway Inn in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. Advertised at $84, “tax recovery charge + fees” increased this to $106.41. Foolishly I paid, only to find for the first time prominently displayed on my receipt that I had paid in US dollars, even though I was in Canada, paying with an Australian card. Thus I ended up paying the equivalent of $138.92 which I found at reception was MORE than if I’d paid myself at reception. HOTWIRE THIS WAS NOT A “HOT DEAL”. YOU ARE CHEATS. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!

Called on Tuesday July 15 they kept pushing me aside with no answer. Called the next day July 16th still no answer. Kept hanging up on me, and pushing me aside. We also told me that I would get a refund and they're trying everything to get me not to get my refund and said that got corporate deal which is a complete lie. Bottom line they're a fraudulent company. Don't do business with them. I've had to go to the higher people which if you tweet on Twitter publicly and they will get back to you. I booked a "hot rate" car rental on Hotwire. When I searched for the car of my choice, it said cancellation was free! Later discovered this rate is non refundable or non negotiable as per the instruction upon checkout! I can't think of a more dishonest company! Three weeks before my trip, I went back on Hotwire to check out the deals, and the cost of my car rental was half the cost! I called to ask if I could cancel my current reservations, and they explained to me that it couldn't be done because it was a hot rate! I have never encountered such intentional dishonesty in booking a car!

I booked a hotel reservation back in May but realized right after booking that it was the wrong location. I immediately called Hotwire to correct the error and was told that I would have to rebook with a different card. Which was something I did not have. Due to it being a hot rate hotel deal there was nothing they could do. I never checked into the room or used the reservation. I disputed this with my bank and almost a month and a half later they are unwilling to reverse the payment. I asked for the GM of Hotwire contact information and the customer service supervisor refused to give me the information. I looked up the corporate number for Hotwire and the line stays busy.... I can't even get through.
This is completely unacceptable. Due to the fact this reservation was made in error and I did everything on my part to correct it. They still are charging me the 127.47 for a room that was never checked into. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with Hotwire and the way the handled this situation. I informed them that I would even be willing to use that money as a credit toward another room instead of a straight refund. But was informed they would need another form of payment. Hotwire needs to do better. I should not have to pay for something I did not use. I will keep attempting to reach out to corporate to get this situation resolved.

We are in Boulder Co. for a concert. We have had tickets and hotel reservations for over 6 months. We travelled 1,000 miles and arrived at the hotel only to find out that the hotel was overbooked and we didn't have a room. We called Hotwire customer service, after 90 minutes and speaking to a manager. We were told that there was nothing they would do to help us. We had no notification from either the hotel, or Hotwire prior to our arrival on the day of the show that the hotel was overbooked by over 100 rooms! Every hotel within 25 miles off here is sold out.
Hotwire told us that they couldn't even expedite our refund due to the need to use the available credit to book a new room. They offered no help whatsoever. The customer service is awful, Hotwire evidently does not check on the availability status of their partner hotels. And they offered no assistance at all, they even refused to give us a discount or credit on a future transaction. STAY AWAY. BOOK WITH ANOTHER PROVIDER!

Contacted Hotwire for assistance with the rental car company they provided, Sixt. It took 45 minutes to get my car after their counter representative had difficulty setting up their GPS system. Once on my trip, I found the cable had to be held in a specific way to charge the battery as any movement caused the plug to fall out. Upon return to Sixt, I was told no manager was available to discuss this problem since it was a Saturday. I contacted Hotwire and they told me to contact the branch manager, but could not give me a name and number. It seems the poor customer service did not end with Sixt. I booked through Hotwire. Never had a bad experience with that company til today and I would never recommend them to anyone. Worst enemy included. They’re horrific money grabbers. After driving for 14 hours I stopped at a hotel because a tornado a severe storms were coming through Tennessee June 19th, 2019. I needed to get in a hotel and so I booked a 3 star hotel. Highest class in the city. You would expect to have a clean room, right? Well walking in the deadbolt did not close, the bathroom had DIRTY towels in it. Already used. If I could upload the photos here I would. The toilet was not secured to the ground. You would sit on it and it would rock up. The seal around it was brown and seeping liquid. And bugs were crawling under the door and into the bathroom.
Because I checked in so late (after 11pm) I called the front desk and was told to please wait until checkout because there is not a manager here to help you. I tried to call Hotwire, email them, start a chat. NO REPLY. So I waited til check out. A manager didn’t get there til roughly 8:45-9 AM. This hotel was disgusting and the best the manager could do was, "I’ll give you 50% off." That was ground for a full refund. It was disgusting. Not only did I lose 160 dollars I lost 40 more for not being able to refrigerate the food I bought right before the stop because the fridge was disgusting, and wasn’t plugged in. I so wish I could upload the photos and videos here but I can’t.

Dear readers please use my experience for your future bookings. As you all know Hotwire is mostly a blind booking website. I started searching hotel near Disneyland LA and then filtered my results for Free Breakfast, Free WiFi and Free Parking. I picked one with 3 stars which shows my 3 preferred amenities listed. I went ahead and paid for the booking. Today I checked in at the hotel but when I asked for parking the hotel said it's ~$19 per night and that's almost 57$ for my booking of 3 nights. I called the customer care, name: Tina #**. She acknowledged my filter experience however they cannot do anything because I already checked in.
1) your search and filter is not working as expected and you want me to test it and prove it???? 2) Hotel didn't tell me parking is additional before I checked in. Hotel didn't tell me breakfast is free that doesn't mean it's not free. This is like you pay for long distance flight tickets and after boarding the flight they tell you food is additional. When I filtered free parking it means the hotel I blindly book will be free parking. If that's not the case then why filter?

Rented a car through Hotwire and prepaid for a lower rate. The instructions given on the website were wrong. Hertz the rental company told me could not get the car because I used a debit card to prepay. I need to use a credit card. I told them I have a credit card you can put the deposit on. They said I would have to cancel that reservation and book again at a hire rate. I called Hotwire and they take no responsibility. "It was booked by Hertz," they say. I think it's all an elaborate scam to get people to pay hire rates. Hotwire needs to take responsibility for purchase made through their site. Now I was unable to get a rental car for my trip because I didn't find out the day of. This is what Hotwire's website says: "Hertz does not accept debit/check card deposits, but does accept credit card deposits." Further down below it says it again: "The agency does not accept debit/check card deposits, but does accept credit card deposits. See important debit card info".
Here is what it says under see important info: "Car rentals: Keep in mind while you may pay for your car rental booking with a debit card, many car rental companies will not accept a debit card as a deposit when you pick up the vehicle, and you will be denied rental if you don't have a credit card for the deposit. International car rental companies will only accept credit cards and require that you have as much as $1,000 in available funds on the card." When searching for a car rental, you can choose to see only results for companies that accept debit cards for deposit at pick-up. Since this will limit your search range, the best deal available might not show up in your search results. See also: "Car Rentals - Searching and booking".

I checked in at the front desk with the receptionist and received our room key. I went to the room and as I walked to the room realized there was dirt and other substances smeared along the hallway leading to the room.
There was layers of dirt on all surfaces, there were bugs, holes in the carpet, filth on the wall, cobwebs in the corners, and the smell was unbearable. We left immediately. Went to the front desk and they had locked the door and with a note stating there were no rooms available. We called the receptionist and she stated that we had to call Hotwire. I understand that Hotwire stands on a no refund policy, however in this situation with the information regarding the hotel being so misleading either by Hotwire or the hotel itself the refund needs to be offered to the customer and and then the money needs to be paid by the hotel.
The hotel receptionist lied twice. Hotwire called and said that we never showed, and then said we did check in, and then stayed the entire night and never attempted to call and inform them that we were leaving due to the deplorable conditions of the hotel and the room. In May 2019, I bought a vacation package (hotel and air) for 3 passengers from the US to Portugal from Hotwire online, for a total price of 4596 $, including 228 $ for travel protection (I am leaving out cents). The protection plan was the most expensive one offered on the website. Due to a family matter, we needed to delay the flight by one day, but keeping the same depart date/time, passengers, hotel, flight company and only adding one more night at the hotel.
I called 2 days after the original purchase and asked if I could change the return to the next day. I was told the hotel had room available, and as to the flight, I would get charged 308$ per passenger (total=924$) for changing the flight return date, but since I had the protection plan I would be reimbursed for 300 x3=900$ dollars and only will actually only pay 8 x3 =24$ plus one extra hotel night. I said I will talk with my family and call back. The agent said she did enter this conversation and the new pricing to my file so when I call back I did not need to repeat the request.
I called back the next day and asked for the flight switch, however, I was told the system was down and they could see my reservation but the file looked blank, and that their headquarters was aware and were working on getting the computer system back up. I was advised to call back in one hour. I called back and I was told the same thing.
I called the next day and an agent said the system was still down but now they were able to check manually! After a long hold, he said the flight prices had gone up and now the price difference was not 308$ but 730 $ per person. I said I had the flight protection, and I understood that flight prices might change but it had been their computer system being down for about 48 hours and this could not be my fault and requested to talk to a manager. I was on hold for around 30 minutes and repeated the same. The manager said she did not have the authority to resolve the issue but she would "escalate" the matter to her supervisor and that somebody would call me the next day.
The next morning somebody from headquarters called me back and said he was resolving the issue and asked me to hold for 2 minutes but I ended up holding for about 25 minutes and then I abruptly got disconnected! I did not get a call back from anybody until I myself called some hours later and again I was explaining and explaining and was on hold multiple times and finally I got connected to the headquarters and some manager apologized and said would take care of the issue on that very call. This very call took about 2 hours and I was on hold multiple times, each lasting about 20-30 minutes with total silence on the other line.
She would come online to ask me for the "exact" phone numbers and time/date of my previous calls which I was able to provide using my iPhone log. She said it was needed to verify that I had indeed called a couple of times during their computer system downtime. She verified them and they were all true but said they could not give me the original quoted price because I should have made the change on the first call. I told her that the point was that the flight price was unknown during the times in which the system was down (it could have either been higher or lower) but it simply cannot be the fault of the customer when the system was down and down for such a long period of time. She said she understood but could not do anything about it.
I asked about cancelling and she said I could cancel and get all the money back in about 7 business days minus the cost of the protection plan, which makes sense, and that I had another 2 weeks to cancel. Afterwards, I felt that I did not want them to have my business and money and decided to cancel and purchase with another vacation agency. Now, I just finished talking to an agent. I was on hold for about 25 minutes for somebody to come online for the cancellation option in the phone system. I provided the itinerary number and said I wanted to cancel.
The agent immediately said that my package was a special package and highly restricted and a cancelation was not permitted or I lose all the money!! I told him that I had talked to the headquarters 2 days ago and I was told I could cancel and that all the details should be in my file. He then put me on hold multiple times and for long periods to come back and say yes the hotel is refundable and then to say yes flight is refundable, however at the end the refund amount was 3268 $! I told him it is not a correct refund as it is short by 1100$. He kept on apologizing but repeating the same wrong numbers. Finally, after I explained and explained the math, he got it! I am to get refunded 1058$ for the hotel and 3309$ for the flight.
I have found refund receipts in the junk folder of my computer plus two "updated itinerary" which state that my package is cancelled but each of these updated itineraries is mentioning numbers which are different than my package cost. My family and I have travelled many times to abroad and used different agencies for booking, but I have never ever experienced such a bizarre customer service. All my calls are logged in my phone and I have all the emails and according to Hotwire, all the calls received by them are logged in and taped as well.
I stand by what I wrote here and I truly hope Hotwire does not get to treat other customers the ways they treated me. they do not deserve to make money providing such a poor incompetent awful service to travellers. All these were done with me being on hold for multiple times with long holds while there was total silence on the other line and I did not know if you are disconnected or still on the line! I must add that except for 2 agents I found the rest polite and repeating cliche sentences expressing understanding my frustration and providing apologies. I had recently requested a hotel to be changed which turned out to be 2 hours from where I needed to be. I was on the phone driving and the person on the other end rebooked me 15 minutes from the original hotel which still left me about two hours from where I needed to be. I spent hours on hold going through what was referred to as a review of the case with no resolution. Every time I called back I was put back on hold. I literally spent over 3 hours trying to resolve the issue which never got resolved. I have never experienced this kind of service from their competitors and most certainly will never recommend or use this online site again.

DO NOT BOOK through them because there is a chance you will end up with nowhere to stay and out of the money you paid to them. I booked a hotel through them for New Year's weekend 2019. When I arrived at the address on my itinerary, there was a vacant building. I looked for signs showing they had moved and saw nothing. I called the number for the hotel and got no answer. I had to stay in a MOTEL 45 minutes outside of Miami. When I contacted them they said they could not give me a refund. I even had pictures of the place with the "For Lease" sign in the window.
The rep told me they contacted the hotel so I tried the number again myself. I did get through to somebody at the hotel that day and they informed me that they did have a DIFFERENT ADDRESS and they share a building so ANOTHER NAME was on the outside. Without speaking to someone, there was no way for me to know this!! The credit card company (Citi) took their side because of Hotwire's "no cancellation, no refunds" policy (even though I didn't cancel or stay there). They ROBBED ME of my $515. No services were rendered because they provided me with inaccurate information and did not care enough for their customer to admit or fix their mistake.

Probably the worst experience I ever had renting a car was through Hotwire. I booked a rental car through Hotwire, so I was charged initially through Hotwire. Then when I came to pick up the rental car, they rushed me through the receipt and had me sign everything. I assumed it was the charges of the daily rate through Hotwire, plus taxes. Not that they were charging me additional rates per day. All together I paid Hotwire $160 and then an additional $434 to the rental car company for a 4 day trip. Makes no sense to go through a third party. I'm not sure what benefit I even had going through Hotwire. I wasn’t able to select my car rental company. Hotwire did that for me. The fact they set me up with such a horrible company makes me never want to use their site again. Worst of all, neither company is any help trying to figure all of this out. Lesson learned! I booked a full-size car on May 2/19 for a 7 day rental for myself and 3 other seniors starting on May 26/19 in San Diego. When we arrived I proceeded on time to the rental agency to pick up the car which was guaranteed. There was a phone # to call for the Company named Ace car rental. This was at 10:40 am and when I phoned it stated this number was out of order. I might add there were a few other people who were also trying to get a hold of this company. I phoned Hotwire and was told by the agent that I should be calling another number which I did and repeatedly got no answer. I called back Hotwire who then tried to get a hold of them with the same problem of them not answering his calls. This was already over a hour of waiting.
The agent at Hotwire told me he would book me a new rental car elsewhere (National) at a more expensive rate which I disagreed with stating we had a contract but because I was travelling up the coast as well as having the others still waiting at the airport terminal I reluctantly said I would take whatever and I would deal with Hotmail later. He gave me a new confirmation # and I proceeded upstairs to National and waited in line for an agent to help. Another hour had passed by this time. I gave the National agent my confirmation and he told me the reservation had been cancelled by Hotwire.
Frustrated I went back to the airport to let the others know as well as then talked to Hotwire again telling them of my horrifying experience. They then told me after explaining the whole ordeal again (was disconnected after being on hold for over half an hour). I was then told to proceed to the car rental place again and that they got me another rental car from Payless. The rental from $156.77 USD ended up costing $577.80 USD withstanding the the runaround all of us seniors had to be subjected too and and extra cost to eat lunch for the 3 waiting there as well as a 3 and half hour delay getting a car. I will let each and everyone I know about the horrible experience I had from Hotwire and will never use them again. Karnal ** from Vancouver Canada

I checked the rates in other places (still not 50% saving) but all looked still ok after the booking. Except when I looked at my Visa statement, it shows that the booking was in USD dollars adding 30% to it. Nowhere on the page when I booked it said US dollar and I don’t know why a Canadian residence is referred to the US page booking anyway. The price is now more than what I would have paid normally. When I called them, they say they can’t do anything about this and this is their policy as there is no cancellation on this.
I understand the terms and conditions of the using the Hotwire rate and I won’t complain if the deals or the hotels turn out not to be so good afterward. (Example 2nd hotel I booked was still not good deal but at least it was Canadian dollar and I don’t feel cheated cause I knew it going in.) My frustration is in feeling getting scammed by not anywhere mentioning about the USD dollar and now having to pay more than the usual booking. I used to travel a lot and Hotwire was really good in the past. But recently the quality and the service has dropped quite considerably and feel like a scam. The savings are never there and really BEWARE of the dollar or the currency you’re booking. You might find out they charge you USD dollar after you booked. Would never use them again.

In March, my boyfriend bought me a ticket to visit him in Fort McMurray, Canada. Before my trip to visit him, something came up and we needed to cancel the flight. Apparently your company doesn’t provide refunds, only credits. Whatever. We made that work and planned a trip around using this credit ($441). After spending an hour and a half on the phone with an agent, who originally told me I could use the credit to fly to Fort McMurray ONLY, she finally confirmed I was able to book a flight to Comox, BC, but I had to pay $150 to USE my credit.
So my credit has now gone down from $441 to $291, which makes absolutely no sense because it’s money we already spent with your company!! Not only this, but I was not able to carry over any of the credit left over to use on his ticket, it was money we had to forfeit, which again! MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE IT'S MONEY WE ALREADY PAID!! But at this time, as frustrated as I was, I let it go because we wanted to use this credit up.
Fast forward to today when I got my visa statement, imagine my surprise when I see that the $150 I had to pay to USE MY OWN CREDIT was actually an American dollar amount and had been converted to $204.84 Canadian. The fact that the person on the phone could clearly see I live in Canada and didn’t mention anything about a conversion rate is ridiculous. Not only that, I bought a separate ticket for my boyfriend that should have cost $305, once again, I was not told this was in US and the ticket actually cost $421.37 Canadian. A trip for two cost me more than $620 BUT I HAD A $441 CREDIT!!! I am so disgusted and appalled at Hotwire's business practices and I can promise you we will never be using them again for anything and we will be telling EVERYONE what a horrendous experience it has been.

I received the confirmation and receipt of payment. My wife and I get to the hotel where we had booked, only to be told they are sold out of rooms and that they have no availability. How is this even possible? Mind you, we had been driving for 8 hours and it was now 12:30am. We made a reservation in Nashville because neither myself or wife can see well driving at night and it would be a halfway point to come back to Chicago.
The hotel told us that Hotwire overbooked them. We call Hotwire customer service to be told that as we are driving to try and find another hotel we needed to download an app ourselves. Terrible customer service, Hotwire messed up and expects their customers to resolve the issue by themselves? Hotwire then tells us all other hotels in the area are booked and the best they could do is either refund us the money or give us $50 credit to use towards another hotel… Still did not fix the problem of us having a place to sleep. We had to drive in the middle of the night back to Chicago, another 8 hour drive with no sleep. I suggest that you confirm that when you are taking people's money that the hotel they have “reservations” for is actually available. TERRIBLE customer service and we will NEVER use Hotwire again.

Once I booked and received the name of the hotel I checked the cost for the same room at the same hotel on Expedia and I found out that I only received a $4 discount of the total price (Expedia owns Hotwire). This is false advertising because under the conditions of taking such a risk and seeing "Hot Rate" with flames coming out of the price a customer is reasonably expected to obtain a much larger discount than $4. Within minutes of finding this out, I called customer service to let them know about this, and ask to cancel my reservation. I spoke to the customer service person and then his supervisor for over 40 minutes. I was given a series of lectures about how the booking systems and marketing departments work vis a vis Expedia, and how $4 is still cheaper. Every time we select "Today's Top Deal", put in our information, including our credit card number we get an error message saying "Sorry, we can't process your booking. Your card hasn't been charged. Please try again." So like the error message says we try again. Finally today I call Hotwire and they say that that deal is no long available. However I'm looking at the deal online and it still says "Today's Top Deal". I understand it's based on availability but if you're sold out you should not be advertising it as available and when someone attempts to purchase it. Do not waste people's time saying "try again". Say this accommodation is no longer available.

Internet search for “rental cars near me” resulted with Hotwire options at the top of the page, so I bit. This was my first experience with Hotwire. I checked all of the provisions (or so I thought) before clicking through to book the car. Staying in Waikiki Beach on Oahu, a shuttle to the car rental facility was a critical consideration. But hey, right here on the Hotwire site it indicates “Shuttle Service” offered. I clicked on the shuttle icon, but is was inoperable. Nevertheless, like a idiot I booked it. I now feel that the inoperable link is intentional.
So I immediately called the rental car company to arrange my shuttle only to be told that they only provide shuttle service from the airport terminal. Staying 45 minutes from the airport, a taxi/Uber to pick up my rental would cost more than the rental itself. Thinking this was a simple error, perhaps a unknown change in rental car company policy that Hotwire was unaware of, or perhaps a inoperative link, I contacted Hotwire Customer Service.
What a disgusting, stressful and infuriating experience. To “cut to the chase” according to the customer service rep, and later a supervisor (Angel) it was 100% my fault. Absolutely no refund as it was a “Hot Deal”. B.S.!!! No offer if any adjustments, no offer of covering the cost of a shuttle that was advertised, no additional discount to the rental charge, no change of reservation to a closer location, no canceling, no refund - NOTHING. Actually, that’s not true, Angel did offer a consistent message that Hotwire would not do a thing to assist or correct the matter. I was **, plain and simple. I have contacted my credit card company to contest the charge based upon a fraudulent advertisement. I have no idea how that will ultimately end. My advice to anyone reading this - DO NOT USE HOTWIRE FOR ANY REASON. If there is a problem, you are ** too. You’ve been warned. Mahalo.

I booked a hotel at the last minute yesterday and got a Holiday Inn in Newport News, VA. I always book in Canadian dollars and yesterday was no different. The hotel was advertised in the $89 CDN range. When I got the confirmation the amount came to about $120. Various taxes cause the price to go up so I did not check details carefully. I checked my credit card bill today and the charge was $166 Canadian.
I also checked the site today and the clearly the same hotel was featured for $85 CDN and $62 USD. I called customer service and they claim it is my fault for not noticing a tiny little (USD) beside the confirmation. I call this theft. For years I used Hotwire but had a problem 2 years ago where I was double charged. I stopped using them but figured it could somehow have been my fault. Now I know for sure.

First off, I cannot believe that this hotel is even listed and approved by Hotwire. The worst experience of my life. This hotel should be shut down immediately. It is the most poorly managed and uncontrolled establishment I have ever seen. Firstly, we were given the keys to an unclean room. Unclean would be a very weak term to use to describe what we saw. The room assigned to us was disgusting. It was littered with dirty diapers on the beds, garbage everywhere, hair clippings all over the sink. We did not even go into the bathroom. The stench was terrible. I cannot believe people live like this. ** believable!
We called housekeeping to arrange another room for us. She started knocking on all the hotel rooms to find one available. Give me a ** break!! She's like, "Here take this one." Yes, it was clean. The beds were made. The carpet mat between the beds had a big black stain on it. I took a look in the corner beside the bed only to find cockroaches crawling around. Some dead. Some alive. THAT'S ITTT!!!! I made a complaint to front desk and explained the issue. Called Hotwire. After about an hour, the representative refunded my room and rebooked us with another hotel. They covered the difference in hotel room costs. That's about it. The distress my family was under due the experience of these horrible conditions, I expected much more compensation than that. I would not recommend this hotel to any decent human being.

We booked through Hotwire to stay in Orlando. My 1 and only request was wheelchair accessible and as we didn’t have a choice of hotel or what room as they don’t tell you until you have booked it. That was my only concern and choice. My husband who is a military vet and has just undergone major reconstructive surgery on his feet is total non-weight bearing and can not be any means walk. I sent several emails direct to the hotel to clarify it was in fact a wheelchair accessible room and they ignored my emails.
While I was on the direct hotel website I also realized the price Hotwire gave me was higher than advertised on the direct hotel website. When we arrived there was no wheelchair accessible rooms. But Hotwire had confirmed there was and took our money and would not cancel or refund the money. Putting my husband life and safety in jeopardy. Not only could he not bathe for 2 days but if there was an emergency it would have been devastating as they put us on the 5th floor.
When I called Hotwire they didn’t care and said we should have told the hotel. Which we did in emails prior to leaving. We went around in circles for 30mins and then the customer service agent hung up on me. My reservation confirmation stated clear in black and white wheelchair accessible room. There was absolutely no discount rate and scary how they handle disabled customers. Please never use this company. It’s a huge lie!!

So we called Hotwire to have them change the reservation to a different provider and they said that they would not honor the price that we were originally quoted. This company is shady and crooked to the core. Even writing to its Senior Management, they have a team of robots that are tasked with “speaking on behalf of upper management” who still tow the ridiculously inflexible line of never offering any refund or working out any type of credit for their own business model shortcomings. Updated on 06/06/2019: If I could offer NO STARS I would. I first wrote on 14 March and again on 5 April and 24 April (the last was not published for reasons I do not know) about Hotwire telling me during my booking that I would be assigned 1 of 4 hotels of 3.5 stars only to receive a different hotel of 2.5 stars for a stay in Shenzhen, China. Long story short, I complained to the BBB in San Francisco and several emails were exchanged between me and Hotwire via the BBB. HW did not dispute that during the booking process they offered me 1 of 4 hotels BUT assigned by a different hotel. A lousy one. How could they? I have the evidence that they did me wrong.
Fast forward 3 months. I complained to my bank. Soon after it reversed my payment to Hotwire (which was good) and quick as a wink Hotwire sent what it calls "screenshots" (which was bad inasmuch as they were untruthful) to my bank that shows on the same page the name of the hotel (Proudway)and my agreement to Hotwire's T&C. As every customer who has booked HOT rates when using Hotwire knows, one pays BEFORE one knows the hotel that was assigned. Never in my years of using Hotwire did I know the name of the hotel BEFORE being asked to pay. It is my evidence that the screenshot produced by Hotwire misleads and misrepresents the situation. Needless to say, my bank fell for HW's "screenshot" and re-debited my account. My former bank I should say. As none of them pay decent interest, I lose nothing by moving to a bank that gives a hoot about its customers.

In their last email they again ignored my claim of deception and misleading conduct, making clear that they will no longer communicate with me. This is what customers get when one outfit like Expedia can buy out their "competitors": you get one big arrogant organisation that owns Expedia/Hotwire/Travelocity/Trivago/CheapTickets/Orbitz/Hotels.com. Shame on you Expedia with its assorted masks.
Updated on 4/5/2019: This is an update on my review of 14 March where I complained of being promised by Hotwire that I would be assigned 1 of 4 hotels, 3.5 stars, in Shenzhen, China. But only after I paid, I was assigned a totally different hotel, not 1 of the 4 listed by Hotwire AND a 2.5 star property. Even worse, NOBODY spoke English at the hotel.
I have been in touch with the BBB who are attempting to mediate. Hotwire in its replies to my complaint has dragged its feet and misrepresented the truth time and again. I argued that (a) I was deceived and (b) I demand a refund of USD 28 (AUD 40) for Hotwire overcharging me, as per their LOW PRICE Guarantee. Hotwire refuse to refund me USD 28 (AUD 40) CLAIMING the price I found elsewhere is in USD and I was billed in AUD.
Of course I was billed in AUD. I live in Australia and we don't use greenbacks. Hotwire initially quoted me in USD and I clicked on a tab on its website to get the AUD price. Because that is the currency of the Commonwealth of Australia AND I wanted to know the price in a currency I understand. Now they are squirming out of their responsibility with a laughable claim about currencies.
As to the fact that I was assigned a different hotel from what they told me they would assign AND one that has NOT been reviewed on Tripadvisor.com (not surprised really, after I lodged there), it is beyond doubt that I was deceived during the booking process. My bank will defend my interests in recouping the payment I made as a victim of deceptive conduct. Keep away from Hotwire. It's bad news.
Original review: On 12 March I purchased (blind) 4 nights in a Shenzhen, China 3.5 star hotel. I was advised it would be 1 of 4 hotels listed. Lo and behold, after I paid I saw informed of a different hotel. NOT 1 of the 4 listed. When I tried to look up that hotel on TripAdvisor, it was not listed. Is it that bad it is beneath a review? I then went to Expedia where the reviews are appalling! I then looked up websites to see what others charge for the hotel. For the same room and dates. WWW.TRIP.COM charges USD 28 [or AUD 40] less than Hotwire. 2 days ago I emailed Hotwire about what to me looks like deceptive conduct in assigning me a room in a hotel I was NOT informed of and that I want the USD 28 [or AUD 40] credited to me as per Hotwire's Low Price Guarantee.

In about two hours I called to attempt to cancel it. And the agent said I couldn't cancel it because It was not confirmed. I attempted over the next 20 hours to cancel it online 4 times but it showed not confirmed so I still couldn't cancel it. I was traveling in Indonesia and did not have cell service. This time, I booked "hot deal" hotel and I wanted a 3.5 star or better in Anaheim, CA. I choose one that had the amenities I wanted and the fees listed were the daily resort fee which I was okay with. Read over everything carefully after the previous times were they screwed me. Then paid for the room. Only AFTER I paid for the room did the next screen now say that I had to pay a parking fee of $18 a night! How on earth is that not disclosed before paying?! Depending on how many nights you stay, that is a huge amount of money for them to conveniently leave off as important information.
Their excuse to me was that they cannot disclose fees as it's a blind reservation. That sounds like utter crap considering they can perfectly disclose the daily resort fees before booking. They also tried to tell me how to book free parking which isn't the point. I don't mind paying for parking at nicer luxury resorts BUT I have the right to know how much or at least a ballpark range before I book since you cannot cancel. Again, they just shrugged their shoulders and ignored me. This is the last straw, I will not be using Hotwire.com every again. They do not care about their customers one bit!

After booking a 3.5 star hotel with Hotwire, I was notified that I had gotten the “great” Plaza Hotel. Seemed like a nice place from the pictures Hotwire had misleadingly posted. As I approached Ft Lauderdale, Waze began directing me away from the city that was supposed to be my destination. Eventually Waze led me to a dead end and I had to revert to Google maps. Before even getting there this should have been an indication to just turn around. My fiancé and I arrived at the hotel and it seemed to be very packed. We had to come in the back way, walking through paint torn walls with trim missing and carpet that was peeling up. We walked into the lobby, which seemed to be trying so hard to be a lobby out of a fancy hotel but just wasn’t cutting it.
As we checked in we overheard a women next to us complaining about roaches. She complained that they were all over her room both big AND small. Worrisome, we still continued to check in and give it a go. We headed to our room and jumped off the elevator on the 5th floor where we were immediately engulfed in ** smell. We continued down the hall noticing holes in the wall and paint peeling from the walls. The doors appeared dented like they had been beaten in a couple of times. We got to our door and after trying to open it a few times we arrived at our destination. The bathroom was atrocious with bugs on the floor, dirty sinks and showers, and two cups that I would no more drink out of than the man in the moon.
The room smelled like straight up mold and the carpet felt sticky. My fiancé and I began to itch and knew that this wasn’t going to work. We walked downstairs, checked out, and told the front desk we wanted a refund. Understanding that I booked through Hotwire, I knew I would have to take it up with them and not the hotel desk. We kindly checked out and headed to a real 3.5 star hotel.
I called Hotwire shortly after to try and get a refund. I spoke with a nice girl who assured me I could get the full refund however after trying several times to reach the hotel without success she gave up. She apologized she could not reach someone and I told her it was an indication of the hotel they really are. She said to try back in 30 minutes, however with it being 11:30 pm and being exhausted after a 5 hour drive I fell asleep. The next day I tried Hotwire again. I was quickly told that all “deals” are final and that no refund would be given. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I told him this wasn’t going to work and asked to speak to his manager. The manager came on and tried to call the hotel for a refund.
After waiting 20 minutes on the phone, she returned and reaffirmed that no refund was going to be given because the hotel had “offered me an upgrade” before I left. EXCUSE ME?! This was a flat out lie that Hotwire was taking above their customer’s actual experience. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I told her Hotwire had lied to me about booking a 3.5 star hotel when in reality they had sold me a 1 star (if that). I felt like I had just been had by a dirty used car salesman. I expressed my disapproval of their integrity and my concern for future guests staying there to please check this hotel out. If I could I would give hotwire zero stars. Not a single one. First off they tricked you into thinking that you're going to get a nice room and you don't because it's a nice hotel. Well that was wrong. Before I called customer service to see if I could get a refund they gave me every excuse why I couldn't get a refund or cancel my service or cancel my reservation. I paid the $10 extra. I should have been allowed to cancel my reservation. Whatever I wanted to does it have the worst attitude whatsoever. Don't argue with them. I am the customer. I'm going to just go ahead and put your mouth on the phone. The boss gave me every other reason around the corner why I couldn't get my refund. Also horrible horrible experience with hotwire. They suck. That are the worst.
Please run from them. Do not book. With my wife. They will not give you your money back those cancellation fee extra $10 out-of-pocket it's not worth it. Okay let's get to the hotel that has me getting the hotel head. Mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, blood on the shower wall and there's some scratches. Something going on in the ceiling and I wouldn't have talked to the guy at the front desk but she was really nice and he said he'd have someone clean the shower. I'll get back shower still had blood on it because I feel like one of them and sprayed air freshener spray air freshener. I need you to clean the bathroom so instead they go to another room is one of the roles of what I expected for. What was paid out it should have been nicer but they weren't.
They were very horrible small rooms. The nicest thing about my stay was the people at the front desk. They couldn't help me out because I didn't look through them. I booked through hotwire. Well not get a refund from another room and they were both verbal and no matter what hotwire would not give me a refund, cancellation, no nothing because my reasoning for them wasn't good enough. If I pay my money doesn't matter I'll pay for the extra cancellation fee. That means if I pay for cancellation fees no matter what you think as long as it's reasonable to me I should be allowed to cancel my service and get my money back because I paid for the cancellation. Up sick I was in mindless this up. They're a horrible company that I wrote them in that no one no one ever again.
Hotwire is the worst and then I don't give you your money back. If you have a bad stay is a good reason. These surveys to fill out a little nicer about it they don't contact hotwire is the worst company ever. I would recommend anyone stay with them. If they said about hotwire please don't do it. Go to somebody else go directly to the company. Do not use them. On top of that they made one of my room when I wasn't there and went through my things because I know how I left things. I also found this 3.5 star hotel on Orbitz for cheaper with the same date, room bed choice. Orbitz was almost $5 cheaper and when I spoke to Hotwire they refused to admit this hotel was in fact cheaper than the rate they offered. They would not stand by their Low Price Guarantee Match citing the other competitor had a 10% off coupon and that they go by room rate not the bottom dollar you end up paying. Buyer beware and shop the competitors before you get ripped off by the Hotwire as they definitely don't stand behind their guarantee.

Tried to book a trip on Hotwire. As I was fairly tight on funds, I made a payment on a card to make room for the charge. They authorized the card then came back and stated that it would not go through and didn't book it. Contacted AMEX and they had funds authorized (but not captured) and on hold. Hotwire refused to conference call with AMEX to confirm that they were not capturing the funds. After it fell off of our pending charges, it still was reserved (and therefore funds were not available) for an additional 5 days according to AMEX. So Hotwire screwed up in their system and would not make it right. Done using them and I would recommend to others to avoid them as well.

Get to hotel, no record of reservation - customer service puts you on hold while they "call front desk". We wait on hold for 56 min for nothing to be resolved and referred to a diff # to call which turns out to be "busy".
Call again for the same BS to reoccur and another 45 min later they are saying that they will refund it but it will take 15 days and the hotel will let us charge it for same price. We just gotta pay another $243 we don't have... 1st time - never did get our $$ because my husband got a new card because of fraud and they say "we can only put it on card it was charged to". I have used Hotwire for some business travel for the last three years, this was the first time I had to reach out to customer support and I was very disappointed with the service that I received. I was going to be traveling by myself for business on this trip and when my hotel deal was revealed, the hotel did not seem to be in an area that I would feel safe. After reading the reviews that Hotwire had approved to be on their site for this hotel, I saw multiple 1 star ratings and people saying that they “did not feel safe,” “the rooms were very dirty,” and “the lock was broken on my door” (which led directly to the outdoors). Upon reading these I called Hotwire and did a live chat hoping to get a refund or credit to use to re-book with another hotel.
They were not willing to make any accommodations for me, saying that they had already paid for the hotel and would lose money. I also work in customer support, and customer retention and satisfaction is what we strive for. I hoped that Hotwire would do the same and make an exception given that I did not feel safe with the accommodations provided. This experience has made me rethink whether or not I will continue using Hotwire for business travel and I certainly will not be using it for personal travel because of this. I had a similar situation with Booking.com, but their customer support was much more understanding and provided a full refund, which makes me much more likely to book with them in the future as they showed me that customer safety and satisfaction was a higher priority to them than the cost of the room.

I pre-paid on 10/3/18 for a mid size SUV rental from 12/24-12/28. When I arrived at the airport the rental car company told me that they didn't have any mid size SUVs available, so I was downgraded to an economy car. Upon my return I contacted the rental car company to receive a credit for the amount that I paid above the economy rate. They told me that I needed to speak with Hotwire since that is who I paid to rent the car. I spoke with Hotwire who said that they would give me a credit for "hot dollars". I told them that I did not want a credit, I wanted the cash back that I pre-paid. They refused claiming that all they could offer me was "hot dollars" even though "hot dollars” are mentioned nowhere in the 'rules and restrictions' section of their rental car agreement.
I asked to speak with a manager who told me that they would only give me "hot dollars" and said that I should contact the rental car company directly. I called National again who, again, agreed that I had been downgraded. I called Hotwire back with the reference number for National that agreed that I had been downgraded. National also stated that even though I prepaid through Hotwire for the car, Hotwire never paid them for the rental so there wasn't even anything to refund since they had never been paid in the first place. I called Hotwire back and then again refused to give me anything other than "hot dollars" as a refund (again, this is stated nowhere in their rental car agreement).
Hotwire said that they needed to hear directly from National that I was downgraded but claimed that they were unable to get in touch with them (even though when I called twice that night they answered immediately). I have no idea why I was told to contact National myself if they claim that they need National to tell them themselves that I was downgraded. I spent over 2 hours on the phone and they still refuse to compensate me at all other than these "hot dollars" which not only expire, but I have no interest in ever using because I will never again rent a car through Hotwire. I received NO FURTHER EMAILS OR COMMUNICATION about the reservation. In the email, it clearly states the reservation has been confirmed, no need to reconfirm.
One month later I called their customer service number to get my record locator number so I’m able to check in online the day before my flight. Then I asked why my 13-year old daughter was listed as an adult. I am then told that my flight is canceled. After being placed on hold for more than 5 minutes, I’m told that is correct and the flight was canceled. “Sorry.” So I ask why. I’m told at first because I didn’t confirm the reservation and it’s my fault. I was placed on hold again for about 10-15 minutes and I’m told the same thing, that’s it’s my fault and the airline canceled my reservation the day after I made it. Now I am out almost $1200 because they’re keeping my money and it’s the day before we needed to leave to see my family, who I have not been able to see in 11 years FOR CHRISTMAS! I hung up to cool down and called back a few minutes later. Again same thing. It was canceled. I could not get a clear answer as why from this person either other than saying the airline canceled it. I asked about getting my money refunded. I was told it was. I relayed I had checked my account while on hold and money was deducted but never refunded to me. After some arguing back and forth, I’m told it could take at 15 days at least. I asked if they could find me a flight and match the price I had originally paid because it’s not my fault that someone at Hotwire dropped the ball. I got my reservation early because it’s cheaper. So now not only am I out almost $1200, I’m not getting to see my family for Christmas because I was pretty much told tough for you.
Yes, I can make another reservation on another flight. But that was money I saved up for this purpose. And now tickets are much, much more expensive than a month ago and I will not be on the flights I needed and was counting on having. I called them right away to cancel the flight and was told that I can cancel but I will not received any refund. I was hoping to be changed a fee to cancel but no. I think this is unfair. Why not calculate prices depending on were you living. They have my address and give you the option whether or not you want the calculated price. If I had know I wouldn't book this flight because I saw other flights that couldn't cost that much. Highway robbery, unethical business practice.

Booked through Hotwire on Nov 17, 2018. We went to Memphis, TN to see Rickey Smiley at a comedy club there. The show started at 10:30p so after the show we grabbed a bite to eat and we could not remember what hotel we booked at so we called both locations of Four Points. BOTH hotels telling us they did not have a reservation under our name, finally a guy at one of our hotels found our reservation on the FAX MACHINE BUT they did not have any rooms available.
So we contacted Hotwire CS who reached out to the hotel and was told the same thing. The only suggestion HOTWIRE had for us was to refund us our money and give us a $40 Credit to use with them next time we book with them. I asked the rep what were we supposed to do for the night. His reply was, "I'm sorry I gave you a refund and $40 credit it is only suppose to be $30 but I went against my better judgment and gave you $40." I then asked to speak to his supervisor. He informed me she will tell me the same thing.
Supervisor MARY get on the phone. Inform me that her agent has issued me a refund and a credit what can she do for me all the time while I am trying to tell MARY what she could do for me she is over talking me and kept repeating, "He got your refund what can I do." I said, "So the only option you are leaving me right now is to either sleep in my car or drive 4 hrs back home." She again repeated to me the obvious that I had gotten a refund. I asked for the corp number and MARY assured me they will be telling me the SAME THING so needless to say my husband and I spent our 1st year anniversary driving 4 hrs back home. We made it back home at 5:30 am the next day. I contacted corp Nov 19, 2018 left my name and number and again on the 21st and as of today 11/24/18 I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM.

I booked a room in end of Nov. I was in a rush and was not aware of the hotel I booked policies. I also did not notice it on the website until after I paid. The hotel had a security deposit of $200. I did not have the extra money for that. The hotel was Super 8 and was not even worth a 200 deposit if you ask me. I called Hotwire and demanded to be refunded. I was outside in the cold where my fingers and toes were burning only to be put on hold for 25 mins and was not given another choice. I hung up the phone because the wait was getting ridiculous.
I am pacing back and forth outside Super 8 and asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor got on the phone or as they called him a higher member of team management. I told him I wanted to be put in another hotels and did not have until Monday to wait, I am freezing in the cold. He had the nerve to tell me..."I know how you feel." As I said to him..."No YOU do not! Are you in the cold, are your fingers burning? You're not stuck and no money for another room and you will not give me my money back or book somewhere else!" Well needless to say. Nothing was resolved, I did not get my money back. I will be on every social media site to let people know how Horrible Hotwire is and their customer service. I reserved a car under one of their Hot Rates. The reservation was to pick up and drop off the car at the airport. I had to change my flight by 2 days due to a family emergency... so I needed to pick the car up 2 days earlier and drop the car off earlier. The amount of days that I would have the car for was going to end up being for the same amount of time. I called customer service and also spoke to a supervisor - they were completely unwilling to change my dates nor were they willing to apply some of the charges to a new booking. All they kept stating was that under the Hot Rate policy they are not allowed to make any changes at all.
I called Thrifty (the car rental company that the Hotwire reservation was for) and they could not help me at all either - they stated that Hotwire is the only one who could make any changes and that I would have to make a completely separate new booking with them. So, now I am paying for a car rental that I can't even use. I feel robbed. I understand that they cannot issue a refund but it is ridiculous that they could not just change the reservation dates. I told them that they need to change their policy because it is terrible business. I will never use Hotwire or Thrifty again. I see from the other reviews that Hotwire should be put out of business. The only thing Hotwire did was give me a refund as if that could help the situation of being stranded at 2 am at Fort Lauderdale Airport and my destination was Miami, which is the reason for the car rental. Hotwire is the absolute worst, and Expedia, as their parent company, should be held responsible for their behavior. I've never had a worst customer service experience in my entire life. I rented a car using their service, and there were no more cars at the location when I arrived. To be clear, I rent cars for work and personal use at least monthly, and this situation has never happened to me when I rent directly (or using any other service). To make matters worse, they were even LESS helpful than the car rental company and wouldn't assume any responsibility for their error. I even got my issue escalated to their corporate office, and the corporate office employee was somewhat condescending and extremely unhelpful.

What answer would you get if asked for different room in main building Sheraton hotel but not in sister property? Answer is: Customers who book with Hotwire wont get rooms in main building, rather will have a room provided in Lugui (really forgot name) hotel. But this is in Sheraton property. But very cheap room. Please, Instead go to 2 star hotels which will cost 35 to 55$ price budget.
The real deal comes when called to Hotwire! "Hello sir, we are sorry for inconvenience. We can refund you 75$ out of 113$ (which I paid). And you will have to check out of room within 15 minutes." This company is an absolute nightmare. I rarely write reviews, but I feel so strongly about my negative experience with Hotwire that I felt compelled to make an effort to dissuade everyone reading this to NOT use their services. My wife booked a room on Hotwire, or so she thought. It then came back and gave her a message saying the “reservation could not be completed” for whatever reason. Her card, however, was charged the rate. Apparently, this is a “pending” charge, but there was essentially no room booked to be subject to a hold. Getting the money back has been a complete disaster. No one knows anything, and it seems there is a complete company-wide communication breakdown at Hotwire, as my wife spoke to about 6 different people, each more useless than the previous.
They kept sending her to PayPal, who were helpful, but their hands were somewhat tied, as Hotwire must initiate the release of the funds. They took their time on the phone with her (as did our bank), but again, there was only so much they could do. Each Hotwire employee that my wife spoke to did nothing more than try over and over to get her off the phone, referring her to just about anyone else – she spoke to supervisors, call center reps, and God only knows who/what else. None of them were even remotely helpful, nor were they sympathetic.
They kept saying the “account manager” is the one who has to release the funds, but none of them seemed to know who this mysterious “account manager” was, or how to get in touch with them. Basically, they were telling her “yeah, tough ** – leave me alone so I can go on my break”. This is still going on and the money has STILL not been returned to us. I find this unacceptable, and I feel that the level of professionalism displayed by Hotwire is embarrassing. I will NEVER do business with this awful organization again, and I seriously encourage you to avoid them if possible. Thank you for reading.

I made a motel booking through Hotwire to continue a stay at the Quality Inn in Kent WA. The reservation was made the day before by my uncle directly through Quality Inn. When I checked in, I was not required to pay a $100 deposit. The next morning when I went to get my key renewed for the Hotwire extension I made, I was told that I would not only have to check out and wait until 3 pm to check back in, but that I'd also have to come up with a $100 deposit. Somehow, their policy changed overnight. I did not have the $100 at hand. When I told them a friend would lend it to me if they waited an hour, they said I'd still have to check out. Then they called the police, unprovoked, claiming I was refusing to leave.
When I contacted Hotwire to resolve the situation, they were unable to resolve it in a manner that allowed me to stay. I accepted this, but insisted that I be refunded the money I'd already paid for the room. After all, I didn't even have the $100 deposit, so the $67 I'd paid Hotwire was the only thing between me and homelessness at this point. Speaking with a manager at Hotwire Customer Service, I was assured I'd be refunded my money, but it would take 3-5 business days. I accepted this, then used the $100 a friend lent me to keep indoors that night. 14 business days later I still had not received a refund.
I was told by yet another CSR manager that they'd investigate whether the initial manager made the offer of the refund, which would take 3-5 days, and if the offer was made (IT WAS) it would be honored, but the refund would take another 3-5 days. I then thanked them, expecting to see my refund in 6-10 business days. 11 Business days later I called asking where my refund was. I was told that the investigation found no proof the offer was made by the initial manager to whom I spoke, and that they were keeping my $67. This company not only stole my $67, they then spent hundreds of dollars justifying their $67 theft. Not only are they liars and thieves, they are also bad business people and anyone invested in them should get out before their flawed customer service policies drive them out of business.

I booked a blind booking for a 2.5 star hotel with Hotwire. I was guaranteed that the hotel would be 2.5 star rating, and equal in quality to extended stay, Ledgestone And I can’t recall the third one but these were all new hotels in Billings Montana. Hotwire back to me at the Red Lion Hotel, Which was a Holiday Inn about 10 years ago. When it was a Holiday Inn, it was a 2.0 star hotel, but it was kept up nicely and very clean. The Hotwire photos of the Red Lion resembled the pictures from when it was a Holiday Inn. That’s the children and I booked a week in the hotel, as we are waiting for our apartment to be finished. After moving all day shut up to the Red Lion about eight, the front lobby is fancy and the hotel is a high-rise in that area, but there is also four, two-story buildings behind the high-rise.
The Red Lion supposedly updated the front, high rise, portion of the hotel. I would not know because we were directed when I’m back buildings. When we pulled up there were guys outside and were sketchy, we loaded the luggage cart which we had to walk equal to a block in distance away to the back of the hotel, there were no ramps to get it up on the sidewalk after we had it loaded. We enter the building and the carpet was torn up in numerous areas, was stained black in a lot of places, the hotel was filthy, with dirt and mud on the walls, spiders and webs, and as we walked down the little poorly lit hallway, we past people who were obviously on **.
When we got to the room did not work, we had our cart full of stuff and office was a block away, I wasn’t about to leave my kids with the cart, alone, so we all had to push the cart all the way to the front to get our keys activated then another block back to our room. We entered the room and the first thing you see is that the carpet is stained black with years and years of ground in dirt and who knows what else. The couch and chair had stains all over them were tan in color, the bedspread was dangerously the bathroom tile was pulled up and missing pieces, the shower had mold in between the tiles and dirt around the drain. I called the front desk and requested a new room, she did oblige but was not so friendly. She stated I would have to come back to the front desk in order to get different keys, when I got there, she asked me what I needed for a room and informed me that any room in the tower was unavailable.
She then stated that I am the only had one room available, and it was in a different building in the back and it did not have an elevator to the second floor. So my children and I after moving out of her house all day long and being jerked around by the hotel for an hour now, had to go back to the first room, force the cart back through the Hallway, out and down to the first floor, and then go a half a block further around the corner, to another building, and then haul all of our stuff up the stairs, we had two carts full. We get into the room and it’s two double size beds which is a little bigger than a twin and my two children are grown teenagers. Again the carpet was disgusting. There was no way in hell I was putting my feet on it, the bedding was dingy. The room was a tad bit cleaner, but there was still mold in the bathroom, piss around the toilet, and dirt around the drain.
By this time it was 10 PM. We were all exhausted and hurting and my son went to stay at his friends house. My daughter and I slept in the hotel. In the morning, I felt so dirty, from sleeping in this room, I put my flip-flops on, and attempted a shower but it didn’t even work! I again called the front desk demanding a different room, I paid for a 2.5 star room, and would like a room that I am not grossed out by and that will fit my family. The manager got snotty with me and told me she had no other rooms and refused to let me speak with her supervisor.
I then called Hotwire and a Kayla told me that they would not give me a refund and offered to move me to another 2.5 star hotel but I would have to pay for the night that I stayed at the dive. I was not happy with this arrangement as I did not pay to stay in a dive. Hotwire misrepresented the quality of the room and my children and I could not even be accommodated with beds or shower or a clean environment.
I told him I would not pay for the one night I had demanded a refund. The lady began telling me I was full of crap because the hotel had remodeled and it was it 2.5 star hotel, I told her I had pictures and it is not even a 1.0. She offered me a room that would cost me $550 dollars, on top of the $450 I paid them for the Red Lion room. They would not be able to refund that money until after I paid for the new hotel. Hotwire also would not be refunding 70 of it because I had spent the night. I demanded to speak with her supervisor and she is well refused and got hostile. I informed her I would be checking out and demanded a full refund.
I called back and got a supervisor on the phone, they agreed to refund all but that one night and $25 for my troubles. It did not even begin to cover my travel but I had spent hours upon hours arguing with these people on the phone and I just needed my money back so I accepted. In the end I ended up with a $350 refund and that is it. When I got to the Alamo desk at the airport, the clerk pointed out that I had indeed booked a 5 day reservation AND a 9 days reservation. I asked if the 5 day charge could be removed, and she told me yes. They weren't. I called the next day about this issue, and spoke to a person named Andy. He/She/it said that it wasn't hotwire's policy to give refunds, but since it appeared to be on hold (the payment) I should wait until I turn the car in to be sure. So, I did that.
The next day, it was still on my credit card. I called my Chase bank, and they told me to be patient, it might take up to 10 days to come off of my credit card. So, after the 10 days, I called Andy back at Hotwire. Again, a bunch of runaround (which likely wouldn't have been a problem if this ANDY spoke better English) led Andy to tell me it is Hotwire's policy not to refund money. After looking online, I see this is their business model: Create a faulty app that tells you your transaction didn't go through, then take their account info and abuse their credit cards. They've been reported to the Better Business Bureau. And I intend to post on each and every website that will allow me. I refuse to take this lying down!

I booked a room for an emergency at my home and I had to vacate. I arrived at the wrong location, and I was told to contact the general manager for a refund. I called the next morning and was told I cannot receive a refund even though I never even check in! I am out of $150.00 now, I will never book through this company again! They will lie to you, and give you the runaround.

Apparently, choosing a non-smoking room is not an option on hot deals anymore. As a long time Hotwire user, I am disappointed to say I will no longer use their service. If you book a Hotwire hot deal you may be booked into a smoking room with no option. On arrival to our hotel I found that the only way I could get a non-smoking room after Hotwire had booked me a smoking room was to pay a $60 upcharge. I am disappointed with both Best Western and Hotwire for not deciding not to make this work somehow or reimburse me. I paid for the room and could not use it. Rebooked another hotel through Priceline with no issue. Amazing that they can put someone automatically into an unhealthy situation with no regard for medical conditions and then just say “too bad”. Dumb business plan to throw away a long time customer over $57.

I placed a car rental for three days. Ideally, the price was $50 per day. So, the value was a total of 214 included taxes. When I got the confirmation e-mail, they charged $1207. It was $350 per day plus taxes. I called Hotwire and they told me it is not refundable. It is insane. I was planning to travel to a contiguous state. Literally, this is four times more expensive of a flight rate. I told representative this and she agreed it is crazy but anyway it is not refundable. Do not use Hotwire, literally they are a scam.

Purchased travel insurance so I could cancel in case my plans changed due to hurricane Florence. Sure enough my work location was changed to work the flood recovery, and the travel insurance was useless. Was told it takes death or illness to receive a refund. First and last time using Hotwire.

Hotwire bait and switched the dates I needed my car rental. When I got the confirmation, I saw different dates than I booked. I prepaid on my credit card and was told I could not get a refund unless I booked the dates I want and of course at a higher rate! The supervisor told me she had "no power" to refund and then why is she a supervisor? I would not recommend HOTWIRE to anyone. It was my first and LAST time dealing with them. No compassion or understanding of the computer reverting back to the dates they wanted than the ones I booked. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HOTWIRE... a pity they can be included as "travel industry"... Reservation details. Driver name Katherine **. Price summary (USD): 1 day x 17.60. Taxes and fees 11.57. Subtotal 29.17. Hotwire Total (USD) 29.17 (Charged to Visa ending in on Sep 12, 2018). When I was reserving the rental car the person said "no worries even though it states we won't refund your money, if you have to cancel just call us and we will refund your money if you cancel before Oct 31 2018". So today is Sept 11 2018 and I call to cancel the reservation only to be told, "we will not be refunding your money". REALLY, now I'm out 266.00.

Our trip was just changed because of a medical problem with the people we were visiting, so we called Hotwire to cancel our car rental. We did not see where, when we booked, that our reservation was non-refundable. We found that out when we called today, and are pretty upset that we could not even get a credit for our $400.00 8 day rental. We got a lot of sorries on their end, and we are the sorrier, being out $400.00.

I don't even know where to begin! My experience was the worst with Hotwire I believe. 2 yrs ago, I made a reservation and right there immediately I got an email confirmed saying I was all set, no need to call the hotel... Blah blah. I showed up to the hotel the next day, only to find out there that I had no reservation with the hotel. I called Hotwire... Back and forth, no one could tell me what happened. Then I was given a number by hotwire agent telling me to call that number and leave a VM and someone will call me back. That day I was so sick and waiting for hrs, no one called me back. My hubby had to end up getting me another hotel with a crazy expensive price because it was booked last min and at a time that's super busy. I tried to call back many times... Wanting to know what the hell happened with my account. All I was told what them agents got no clue. Just kept telling me to call that stupid none-answered-number they gave me.
After my vacation, I got back home, tried calling them for another 2 months with numerous times, no one ever called me back and there's a $200 credit in my account. I just told myself that I'd deal with them later... And that later turned into a year, I called Hotwire, same thing happened. Now is 2 yrs, I just called Hotwire and asked them, "Listen I don't care about my account anymore, just credit that credit back to my bank account, or transfer to another account user that I know..." The agent now told me there's nothing they can do, because they have no record of my account. I'd have to call that number (that no one ever answers, or call you back.)
So there, pretty much they "stole" my money and just hid away like a coward. So first, overbooked my reservation, then blamed that my account was fraud, when I knew it has nothing to do with fraud. I know what it looks like when there's fraud, you'd get a note asking if it's you that booked this or that... For my case... NOTHING! Then completely disappeared and never even send me the credit in my account but deactivated my account and there's nothing I can do. And now I get hung out with Hotwire, because they said I have to call that no and there's nothing they can do for me and hung up on me.WOW! I'm just pissed because it's only ** $200 but really? Hotwire is a big company, but no one really knows who the shady ** behind this online booking thing. No one knows who he/she is, could be some low life thief/scammers that turn out to be this horrible when in a situation like this. BEWARE!! THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU PEOPLE!!!

I made a 7-day car rental via Hotwire. When my plan changed, I called them immediately - before ever picking up the car - and canceled the reservation. The staff on the phone confirmed that it was canceled. I never picked up the car. Then, when my credit card monthly statement came in the mail, I noticed the full charge of $238.67 - for what? I called them again, but the staff denies that the reservation was canceled, because the rate I was quoted was a "special rate," which had locked in my reservation. That's not what the staff had told me the first time when I called to cancel. Hotwire knows what it's doing. They have developed a methodical scam, using cunning practices, to scam customers. I will NEVER use Hotwire again, but the company needs to be sued and voted out of existence. It's a matter of time that this will happen.

After spending over two hours on the phone - the vast majority of the time on hold - trying to change one flight for a family of 4, and after being charged $960 in change fees ($240 per person), I got an email the night before my flight saying that two of the passengers' tickets had been cancelled for no reason. I tried logging into the airline's system and the tickets had completely disappeared. Now I'm on the phone with Hotwire for a 5th time today and they are very perplexed about why they can't find these tickets...yet they still have no idea what they're doing and how to fix it. How is this even possible? Do not use Hotwire unless you want to be stuck in a foreign country!!
