My family and I were planning on a trip to Boston, and I checked out the Hotwire hot deal. I got shown the following possibilities: Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton DoubleTree, a Wyndham hotel and one other of the same caliber. When I selected the option, I got a Comfort Inn! Their response was those others are just to indicate that we would get a national chain. I find it very suspect why they didn't show me Comfort Inn as one of the possibilities. I would never have chosen it.

Would highly recommend avoiding this service. Website glitched and did not honor my dates for reservationm. Only after I paid did it list the dates, which were wrong. I called immediately to fix or cancel. Which they absolutely refuse to help with. Too many good sites to use. Would never consider this service again.

We booked a car rental through Hotwire and when we arrived at the location we were told that Avis couldn’t do anything and they were oversold on cars and had a waiting list of 20 pleople in front of us. We were told we had to call Hotwire. Called Hotwire and waited on line for over 35 minutes and we were told they couldn’t do anything. But they would give us a 20 code for a future car rental. HELL NO! You acrewed me once by not having a car available. You really think I must be crazy to book through you EVER AGAIN. They suck!

I booked a package flight and hotel to Orlando from MSP and reviewed my credit card statement to find that I was billed twice for my vacation package-over a one thousand dollar error. WATCH YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS WITH HOTWIRE. I will not use this company again. It looks like I am not the first person to report this problem. I did call twice today and the first time was instructed to call the airline to figure this out after talking with a rep from Hotwire, the second person from Hotwire said the additional charges should come off my credit card in 2-3 business days. There was no rationale as to why I was billed twice to begin with. We shall see if the problem is resolved. I wonder if I hadn't called, if they would have found the "Error".

Hotwire definitely offers cheap deals. This may be worth it if everything goes to plan. If, however, anything comes up during your travels and you have to cancel, delay or re-arrange your reservation at all, good luck. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Hotwire due to a change in my travel plans outside my control. The experience was so mind-numbingly frustrating that it convinced me their customer service agents are trained to try and make you give up getting a refund out of pure frustration.
A BRIEF summary - I called my car rental agency. They said I needed to contact Hotwire. Called Hotwire, they said they needed the car rental agency to confirm it was ok to cancel the reservation. Called back car rental, they said that it false and they have heard of Hotwire incorrectly telling this to many people. 45 minutes later I am on a three way call with Hotwire and the car rental agency (the latter who were very helpful) when the Hotwire agent FINALLY begrudgingly agreed they would refund the money. I will never use Hotwire again, not worth it no matter how cheap the deals.

My husband and I booked a hotel via Hotwire for our stay in Rome, Italy. Before we booked, we made sure our hotel choice amenities included Complimentary FREE internet. Beforehand, we made sure this was something our hotel had regardless of the area we stayed in since in Europe a lot of places don’t offer free WiFi just like that. When we booked, it states that one of the three hotels we would get would have Complimentary FREE internet. But when we arrive at our hotel they actually told us they charge 10€ per night for internet AND we can ONLY use it in the lobby and not in our rooms. We were immediately upset because we chose specifically a hotel that had Complimentary FREE internet as advertised on Hotwire.
We immediately email Hotwire the next day of course, in the lobby after having paid to use the internet. We check on our booking (the confirmation email you get after you’ve booked) and towards the end it stated that the hotel offers Internet Access and NOT Complimentary FREE internet like what was advertised on Hotwire PRIOR to and DURING booking. Basically this is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. How can you say we will get one of the three hotels listed and the amenities that it will have is complimentary FREE internet and then it doesn’t???
We then get an email THREE WEEKS after from customer care team saying that we have to call so any of the “travel specialist” can resolve our inquiry. We then call, after we’ve already emailed them in detail our situation with screenshots so they could process a refund for false advertisement. We then call and one of the customer care team members say the research team didn’t provide any details on our account so he couldn’t help us.
We get transferred to a supervisor upon request and they state what the team member said was correct but that because of their process (that was NOT mentioned to us in the email, which it should have!) all we have to do is email that customer care team member stating that we spoke to a supervisor so then the research team could look into it. Mind you this was going to take another 3-5 business days (so now it’s been over a month since this first happened and we’re still dealing with this) for them to get back to us for a response.
The same customer care team member gets back to us seven days later stating that they could not process a refund because it was our fault. Our fault that they advertised that our hotel was going to have Complimentary FREE internet and it didn’t. We spoke to the supervisor just now and she basically said that she could do nothing about it and that the research team already said no. Even though Hotwire lied. We will NEVER EVER use Hotwire again. They have lost us as a customer. Please pay a little extra and get yourself an Airbnb or spend your money on a hotel you actually like and will provide all the amenities it says it will. We never experienced this with Hotwire but we do not appreciate FALSE ADVERTISEMENT.

There was an error with our booking date that had to do with our timezones and we were sent to a hotel that did not exist. When we explained this to customer service it took close to two hours and four people. We were hung up twice! Who does that? What business condones that? How can they resolve our problem if they are running away from it. I'm appalled that any person would conduct themselves or any business in that sort of manner. How can a company implement a protocol with no resolution where the customer is repeatedly put on hold and hung up on. I've never experienced such rudeness in a "professional" setting. Shame on you Hotwire for hiring such incompetent people to enforce your lack of policy. As of now we never received a refund and have not had our issue resolved.

I booked a hotel through Hotwire in Anaheim for three nights at the Hilton For 550 dollars. I arrive at the hotel and they have no reservation for me at all. (Which was totally embarrassing by the way.) Anyways I call Hotwire customer service and they put me on hold for a good 45 minutes trying to resolve this Issue.. Which per the man at the desk would not even be possible tonight as third party reservations are done through a lady who works Monday through Friday 9 to 5. (It’s 11 pm on a Thursday at this point) so I had to pay for my reservation again or have no place to stay.
I finally get ahold of someone on Hotwire again and request a refund for their reservation since I had to redo it anyways and they completely refused! They were not willing to make anything right. Worst experience of my life! This will be the first and last time I use them. I would suggest going directly through your hotel website. It is way worth the money you would be saving. Stay away from this company.

Reserved a car rental for MCO/shuttle. Because I thought the shuttle was still on airport grounds, I booked. That was not the case and I was to be taken offsite to get car and I didn't want that because I am a female and didn't feel comfortable doing this at 1 AM in the morning by myself. I called immediately after reservation was made and they said they couldn't give me my money back, but would allow me to rent a convertible/sports car as this is all they had. That is not true. There were more to chose from but she said this is all she had. Remind you I booked an economy car. So I declined that car because that wouldn't work for us. The phone convo was disconnected.
17 hrs I booked another car in terminal...thinking I had that so called credit. I didn't have that credit. When I called and spoke to a supervisor she said I had 24 hrs to book which I did, but because I declined the convertible their offer was not any good. I will never use Hotwire again. They lie and do not care about customer service. If I knew that offer was declined after the phone called ended, I would not have booked another car through them. I asked why I wasn't called back and the supervisor stated - she read in the notes the agent tried calling back but there was an error. Give me break!!

Hotwire car rental is such a scam!!! I booked car online on September 30th and I got HOT RATE for it. When I went to rent a car agency (Ace) they told me that there is mile limitation for my reservation (150 miles a day) and that I should cancel reservation because if I go further than 450 miles in 3 days I will pay 25 cents per extra mile. These conditions WERE NOT in terms and conditions when I accepted reservation.
I called Hotwire after agent in ACE told me to call them and cancel. Hotwire did not wanted to cancel my reservation because they told me it was a blind reservation and it is not refundable?! I told them that even if it is blind reservation they SHOULD put all the conditions when you book it, otherwise I got stuck with the car I cannot use. They said they will put those information in the future???? I told them I don't care about the future, I want my money back now because it's crazy to scam people like that and do not put all the conditions when you book a car. I ended up being charged for a car I did not use. PEOPLE SAVE YOUR MONEY, do not use HOTWIRE! Their customer service is rude and their supervisors not doing their job.

Hotwire is mostly a ripoff. First of all, it is nothing more than the run-of-the-mill database on available hotel rooms, excempting that they claim to offer "hot" deals. As another reviewer pointed out, you could deal directly with the hotel and get the same kind of deal. I doubt that that is true 100% of the time; however, I can vouch from personal experience that the assertion does have some validity, as I had checked out a room rate directly with a hotel and found that it was nearly identical to Hotwire. The big difference is that I had more leverage to change or cancel a reservation with the hotel itself--despite Hotwire's insurance protection (which is $15 of uselessness).
Secondly, you get stuck paying for a room with Hotwire, even if your plans change, just because they claim to lock in on a low rate and lock in on a transaction with the hotel. You could definitely negotiate yourself without Hotwire while maintaining the option to make changes. Third, the idea that hotels need to sell out with the aid of these online digital travel agents is not as black and white as some might suppose. I booked a room for Thanksgiving almost two months in advance. Those plans changed almost instantly. It would actually have been better for the hotel to accept a reservation cancellation, as they would easily have been able to relist the room and get more money during peak season. So hotels can sometimes lose money from these sites.
On these occasions they are like parasitic leeches, exploiting the concept of supply and demand, much in the same way that ticket scalpers do for concert venues. Obviously, if someone needed to book a last-minute hotel, then having any occupant is better than none. But there is no recourse for those needing to change or cancel reservations over a month in advance, which would allow plenty of time for relisting. Finally, Hotwire presents the "hot deals" in a customer-blind offer, meaning they won't disclose the room--or even the hotel--until you've already booked and are potentially out of luck financially. I suspect this is done to prevent people from quickly researching those hotels and taking their business elsewhere.
As you can see from other negative reviews, you don't always get what you want--or even think you are getting; and when you do get what you want it's either luck or the graciousness/availability of the hotel itself. As an additional note, I'd like to refute some of the positive reviews. Just because some folks needed a last-minute room and got one through Hotwire does not make them a good vendor. In fact, with a little bit of internet research anyone can accomplish the same thing by using online maps and search engines and then booking directly with the hotels.
Also, just because some people had great experiences on their trips does not mean that Hotwire provided those happy memories. The hotels provide that service. Hotwire is an unnecessary intermediary. So, unless you are absolutely desperate and running out of time, go elsewhere. If you are desperate and need to use Hotwire... then I wish you the best of luck. You'll need it.

Hotwire.com is the biggest ripoff I have ever encountered. Low price guaranteed? Nope. The hotel would have provided a better price if I had called them directly but since I booked through Hotwire they couldn’t do anything about it. Now normally I suck it up. Lesson learned. But they do have a low price guarantee. I tried to fill out the online form, no luck as it would not submit. I called and the rep constantly repeated themselves just telling me to bad prices change. I asked for a supervisor and she proceeded to tell me the same thing. "Tough luck buddy. Prices can change at anytime and you're stuck with it. We will do nothing to try and accommodate or please you. Goodbye." We are talking a difference of $89 a night people. Don’t use Hotwire.com. They are crooks.

A very nasty, stubborn, deceptive, unprofessional company! Just about every rental company in the world will allow cancellations on a rental car... NOT Hotwire!!! I reserved a car rental a month out and Hotwire put my rental car with Alamo. Alamo has a cancellation policy that states you can cancel your rental car up to 24 hours. I called Hotwire a week prior to renting and I was denied! I disputed charge with my credit card and it was INSTANTLY removed without any questions... Final decision in my favor!
I also wrote the District Attorney's Office of the State of California, the Better Business Bureau, and the Los Angeles Consumer and Business Affairs of Los Angeles. Hotwire's (Michelaine ** of Corporate Offices) response was "We are unable to honor refund request of his booking." DO NOT ever book with Hotwire!!! Book on your own or with any other company on the web. There are a plethora of other companies. Hotwire is out for blood! Stay away. Trust me on this! If you have already made a charge with Hotwire, dispute it with your credit card company. Better results!

My husband and I wanted to stay in downtown Boston for one night at the end of a New England fall foliage trip. The hotel prices were outrageous. I saw a Hot Deal for $88. We discussed it and decided we’d try it and see what happened. Once I booked, I learned that we were booked at the Boston Hilton Faneuil Hall area, which was great. However, when I call the Hilton to doublecheck that they had our reservation, they did not! I was patient and waited a couple of days and tried again, still no luck. When I would call Hotwire, I would be put on hold for extensive periods of time while they called the Hilton, spoke to Hotwire reservationists, etc. They would then ask me to call back in two days to allow time for Hilton to receive the resubmission of the reservation.
After two more days, same answer...Hilton had no record. I finally called Hotwire and asked to speak with a supervisor. Ultimately, after confirming that Hilton did not have our reservation, the Hotwire supervisor offered us either a refund or to book us in a comparable hotel for the $88 price. That was a no brainer for me! She booked us at the Marriot Long Wharf and Hotwire paid the difference between the current Hot Deal Rate at the Long Wharf and what we had paid for the Hilton. We stayed there last night with no issues at check-in. The hotel was awesome and completely as promised. Although it was a pain and time consuming to get this straight, we ultimately got an amazing deal and Hotwire made it right. I would so this again.

I accidentally booked 2 car rentals for the same day. Hotwire Customer Service is the worst. On par with AT&T, Wells Fargo, and companies where you can never reach a live person via phone. They refused to refund me for one of the reservations, and I ended up having to pay for both. Save yourself the drama, and book through another company because if even the slightest thing goes wrong, they will not help.

I booked through Hotwire the other day not really caring where I stayed but simply because it would save me some money. While some of the "Hot Deals" warned of extra charges with regards to Resort Fees, there was no warning at all that the hotel I was assigned was a Valet Parking only hotel and that I would have to pay an additional $33 to park Valet, not to mention the tip for the valet guys.
When I called Hotwire they said it was my fault because I didn't select "Free Parking". I told them that I didn't want to limit my selection in a city where there are a lot of hotels that charge for parking. My argument was that when the hotel is "Valet ONLY", that should be disclosed just like they disclose resort fees. Now, I am paying more to stay at this hotel than if I had just booked the one right next door that does have free parking and is just as nice. POOR CUSTOMER Service!!!! POOR Policies!!!! POOR admitting when you are wrong!!!! PLEASE!!!! JUST PAY THE EXTRA $ AND USE SOMEONE ELSE.... NOT EXPEDIA or HOTELS.com as they are all affiliated with each other. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!! I rented a car through Hotwire for a funeral I was going to. I only needed the car for a couple of hours as I was flying home the same day. My flight was delayed out of Atlanta and when I got to DC I was already late and turns out the company I got it from was actually off of airport property which I didn't know because I was searching for an airport. I ended up renting a car on property since I was there and was late. After the funeral I called customer service to request a refund since i did not use the reservation. I was told that I would need a copy of the death certificate and the obituary to receive the refund which was only $40. I told them to just keep the money because I was not going to ask my aunt for the required documentation and that was very disrespectful wanting those documents.

I recently rented a car through Hotwire special deal. I got to the rental and I was told they only have one car available and it was Ram 1500 pickup car. I am a small girl who can barely drive a small car, and they wanted me to drive this huge pickup (which I was planing to drive from Dallas to Austin, about a 4 hours one way trip). At this point it was a matter of safety. So then, I called Hotwire and explained the situation. Hotwire called the rental first, verified my story and told me to go ahead and upgrade to what the rental have available and they will reimburse the difference.
Fast forward after my rental, I emailed the receipt like I was told, and got no reply for the first time. I called Hotwire again, and I was told they did not receive the receipt. Then I sent it again, it took them another week or so to review it (by then it was almost a month), and they replied telling me they would not reimburse the difference because I booked a special deal.
I understood the special terms, but at that point it was a matter of safety and I was informed by their agent to upgrade and they will refund my account. Despite the fact they have a record on their side of our first conversation, plus they are the ones that told me to go ahead and go with what the rental have available, they want to act like I made that whole story up. Never again would I choose them nor allow any of my friends and family use any of their services. After all the chaos, I decided to read all the reviews, and I wish I read the reviews before hands. It sounds like they are undercover scammers waiting to be caught. SCAMMERS!!!

I was using hotwire for the first time. The same hotel listing came up over and over. Every time I went to buy it, it said... "oh sorry, now it's sold out" in the three minutes it took me to fill in my payment information. I kept trying with this "great deal" thinking every time I saw it pop up again, they had decided to release more rooms. Little did I know, it was authorizing my card each time, even though saying NO to the room. They give a $10 promo code for signing up. It doesn't just transfer into your account, you have to enter it. It's impossible to select and copy, so you have to enter it manually. It's about 20 digits long. That’s just annoying. I'm sure most people don't bother. Just give the discount or don't but don't make it extremely hard to use.
After all my trouble, they gave me a $15 credit. It's gone now after another bogus attempt at a room that they are advertising OVER AND OVER again, and then saying not available. If I didn't get the room, my credit should still be there, but of course it's not. This company is a joke. I believe they are doing a bait and switch. Every time I "lose" the room I'm after, the new search it takes me to has much more expensive "hot deals." I talked to them many times and no real explanation was given as to why there is a listing coming up repeatedly that then says unavailable when you try to buy it. Also no real explanation for WHY they should be authorizing a card amount in ANY way for a room you're NOT selling me. I know the authorizations will drop off, but it's still disconcerting. It's been a bad experience in every way to the point I'm afraid to trust them with my money or vacation.

We made a reservation for a hotel in Wilkes-Barre PA on June 13th. Our card was charged and we received a confirmation email. Our booking was for Aug 16-19. On Aug 14, Hotwire even sent me an email reminding me of our reservation. We arrived Aug 16th and Hotwire had NEVER made the reservation for us at the hotel!!!! After hours and hours on the phone, they first sent us to a hotel I said I did NOT want to go to because of horrific reviews. We went anyway and it was a horror show. Mould in vents and on walls, spotty electricity, toilets and bathtub filthy, and sheets covered in blood and piss stains. Hotwire refused to book us somewhere nicer because they would not book us at a hotel rated more highly despite leaving us stranded 500 miles from home on a Friday night at 10pm.
They finally refunded me and credit me with $25 Hot Dollars to spend on their stupid site as if I would ever want to book through them again. In fact, their mistake ended up costing us an extra $110 - having to find a hotel to book on our own (with NO HELP from them) for that night plus finding alternate accommodation (an Airbnb) for the rest of the time we were in NEPA. $25 Stupid Hot Dollars is not the way to apologize for this level of mistake. This company doesn't provide the service it exists to provide and also has no concept of how to apologize and compensate when they have left people stranded. Instead they left us stressed and seriously out of pocket.

HOTWIRE A FRAUD. I have spent over four days trying to make reservations for a hotel in New York City at the end of November. I kept getting a message that reservation did not go through and that the credit card was not charged. After several tries, I contacted Hotwire and they told me to give it a rest and try at a later time. I literally spent all weekend trying to make this reservation. The site continued to have this specific deal available and the price even went down a couple of dollars. I called this morning and the representative attempted to do it manually. He, too got the same message and told me to call my credit card company as it appeared it might have been blocked after so many tries.
I called my credit card company and I was assured there was no problem. I again tried it and it did not work. I called Hotwire again and they suggested I used a different credit card. I tried a different card and I still got the same message. I called again and I asked them to try doing it manually. Finally, I was told that the reason the reservation was not going through was because the deal was NOT available. Actually, the hotel(s) they were offering was WAY OVERBOOKED. The site continues to have this deal available. The Hotwire Representative offered me a lower rate hotel in the area at $20.00 more per night and a comparable hotel in the area at $50.00 more a night. I attempted the transaction again, with the same result. So I went to a competitor and booked a non-refundable deal there. Lo and behold, the minute my second hotel was booked through a competitor, the charge to Hotwire posted. I called them and explained what happened, but since I had no screenshot of the error message and they had no record of me getting an error, they did not budge. Hotwire is a SNEAKY SNEAKY company! I booked a hotel that was advertised to be 1.1 miles (1.77km) to the destination I needed to be able to walk to for an event. Upon booking the reservation I was sent the name and address of the hotel that I would be staying at. I then learned that the hotel is actually 8.33 miles (13.4km) away which takes 2 hours and 31 minutes to walk. When I realized this I called the company to ask to move me to a closer hotel or refund my money. The rep told me she couldn't refund my money because this was a "Hot Rate" hotel booking and they don't offer refunds on those bookings. I explained that I understood the rule, but this was not a cancellation because "I changed my mind." The information that was presented to me was FALSE! I said Hotwire's website CLEARLY STATED that the hotel was 1.1 miles away from my destination and that was the only reason I booked a 3 star hotel that cost me $200 CAD.
The rep told me that the 1.1 miles represents a straight line distance, NOT and address-to-address distance and because the service is a blind booking they can't give precise distances. I explained that I understood that, but 1.1 miles and 8.33 miles (12 km) is quite a big difference. She refused to help me. I asked to speak to a manager. After explaining the situation to the manager and telling her that I felt like I had been tricked/taken advantage of she explained the same thing the rep did. I got pretty upset at this point. I said, "Listen, Hotwire is a huge company and they falsely advertised information on their website. I know that you know that's not right. I know that you know that they are being sneaky by listing distances by how the crow flies rather than address-to-address when they clearly have the information. I need you to make this right. Either book me in a closer hotel or refund my money. What was represented to me was a lie."
The manager proceeded to tell me about the "Hot Rate" hotel policy and that they would NOT be issuing a refund. I told her that I was really disappointed in their customer service and the fact that she made no effort to correct the misrepresentation. She told me that WE (meaning Hotwire) stand by our decision. So here I am on a Friday night writing a bad review for a company that treated me poorly. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I feel compelled to because what this company did was wrong. I have worked in customer service for 30+ years. I can handle it if mistakes are made, service is slow, employees were less than ideal. I don't like it, but I can handle it. What I can't handle is when a company (especially one as large as this) and its employees do something wrong and won't make it right.
No apology. No “We'll credit you a portion back so that you can taxi to your event since we made a mistake on our website.” No “We'll give you a voucher for your next stay with us.” Nothing!!! Just…”Yes, we know what did was wrong, we're happy we have your money and we stand by our decision to take advantage of you.” I will NEVER use this company for travel bookings again. I hope you won't either. PLEASE SHARE.

I used the "Hot Rate" feature to pick a hotel on my recent trip to Washington, DC. I was staying in the Georgetown area, so of course, it didn't matter which hotel they gave me, they were all going to be nice, right? It said I would have one of the 3 hotels shown - one I had never seen or stayed at before, but I was okay with that. After all, it's Georgetown.
I happen to get the one I had never seen before. Great! I've stayed at almost all of them over the last 10 years; it was going to be an adventure! I arrive and when I walk in there is a jackhammer noise to my right. You couldn't hear anything! I look over and they're smashing out a wall. It was a rainy day in the DC area and inside the hotel was humid. They inform me they do not have a restaurant yet as they are under renovation (so much for that promised restaurant, Hotwire). Yellow tape prevented anyone from walking in and out each doorway, tools were spread along the lobby floor and 6 workers in construction gear were carrying wood. They assured me that even though they didn't have a restaurant they would have "snacks" (these were later set out as crackers (saltines) and water. Yum). I go to my room and the walls are dripping with water. The bed is wet. Everything is wet with condensation.
I call downstairs and they apologize and tell me it's because of their "old pipes". I lay down to rest. I had come to DC due to a doctor's appointment at GWU Hospital and I have been seeing a specialist there for many years. This experience was one I had never had before. I couldn't even rest on the wet bed. The place smelled of mold. I request a new room. They said they will come up and bring fans to try to make it dry. Two hours later: now, it's cold and still wet. I request a different room again. Upon relocating down the hall, a man walks around the corner, nude, holding a plate against his male anatomy. Now, I'm confused and I don't know what's happening. The new room is dry and I'm thankful. I was then informed this was an old dorm own by the university that was being converted into a hotel. I tell myself it can't get worse.
I may be starving at this point and needing to find a place to eat now, but at least my new room is dry. Next morning, continental breakfast time!! A cafeteria tray with bottled water on it and mini muffins from Costco on a folding table by the table saw. Yum. Is this real life? Keep in mind, in Georgetown, hotels are usually not under $250-$350 a night. A good night would be $175 and those are veryyy verryy rare. This trip is already a disaster and not up to standards to the rate I paid, not even if I paid $100 would this be okay. I get into an argument at this point at the front desk about the fact my shower isn't working. I feel comforted by the Swede who is extremely upset about getting stuck in the elevator and letting them know all about it. I'll refrain from the rat story, but I had no idea they could grow up to almost a foot long!
At this point, I'm going to call HOTWIRE. The ones who gave me this "hot deal". I tell them this entire hotel is under construction. They act like they don't believe me. So, then they say they have to call the hotel to "confirm". Okay, go ahead, I'll wait. The customer service rep comes back and tells me 'yes, they confirmed the hotel is under construction'. Really? I had no idea. THEN, tells me that they cannot refund my money because I had already spent one night there. I request for them to put me at a different hotel. They tell me they're all booked. So, were they all booked yesterday, too? Would I have even been able to change had I called? Then this guy tells me he would give me $50 my next hotel room. How is that going to help the current situation? At this point I hang up, leave the hotel and spend my day outside now that it's sunny. It's just a hotel, right? A place to lay my head at night (as long as it's dry).
I go to book my next trip with this $50 compensation and it says I can only use it on a HOT DEAL!!! You mean I have to go blind into another possible disaster again?? Get out! HOTWIRE! Seriously? You really did not fix any problem and to even give me a $50 voucher for my next hotel and not tell me it's for a HOT DEAL is ridiculous. You should have found another hotel for me in the DC area (there are hundredsss) and gotten me out of there. Never again.

He had put in info on another site but somehow Hotwire site must still have been opened and our CC info was received involuntarily. We have no idea how they received our CC info but we for sure know we did not approve or authorize this charge. We were unaware of this until we received the Credit Card bill of almost $900. I have had issues prior with them and WILL NEVER utilize their service again. One customer service rep was trying to help but no authority. Now has me on hold for 50 minutes and I am still holding. I guess this is one of their tactics. They want you you to hang up. The worst customer service experience I have EVER had. There should be ZERO stars.

Booked McGovern's Motel on Hotwire and this place was the worst hotel I've ever pulled into. It looked like a crackhouse. Right away I feared for the safety of my family. Upon entering the room and pulling the bed back, we IMMEDIATELY found a bedbug. I went to the front office and the attendant refused to come down. She would only communicate through the intercom. Hotwire was also horrible for help and I tried getting it resolved for over an hour. Btw this was after driving 10+ hours and arriving at this dump at 11:45 at night. Advertised at $84, “tax recovery charge + fees” increased this to $106.41. Foolishly I paid, only to find for the first time prominently displayed on my receipt that I had paid in US dollars, even though I was in Canada, paying with an Australian card. Thus I ended up paying the equivalent of $138.92 which I found at reception was MORE than if I’d paid myself at reception. HOTWIRE THIS WAS NOT A “HOT DEAL”. YOU ARE CHEATS. Due to it being a hot rate hotel deal there was nothing they could do. I never checked into the room or used the reservation. I disputed this with my bank and almost a month and a half later they are unwilling to reverse the payment. I asked for the GM of Hotwire contact information and the customer service supervisor refused to give me the information. I looked up the corporate number for Hotwire and the line stays busy.... I can't even get through.
This is completely unacceptable. Due to the fact this reservation was made in error and I did everything on my part to correct it. They still are charging me the 127.47 for a room that was never checked into. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with Hotwire and the way the handled this situation. I informed them that I would even be willing to use that money as a credit toward another room instead of a straight refund. But was informed they would need another form of payment. I started searching hotel near Disneyland LA and then filtered my results for Free Breakfast, Free WiFi and Free Parking. I picked one with 3 stars which shows my 3 preferred amenities listed. I went ahead and paid for the booking. Today I checked in at the hotel but when I asked for parking the hotel said it's ~$19 per night and that's almost 57$ for my booking of 3 nights. I called the customer care, name: Tina #**. She acknowledged my filter experience however they cannot do anything because I already checked in.
1) your search and filter is not working as expected and you want me to test it and prove it???? 2) Hotel didn't tell me parking is additional before I checked in. Hotel didn't tell me breakfast is free that doesn't mean it's not free. This is like you pay for long distance flight tickets and after boarding the flight they tell you food is additional. When I filtered free parking it means the hotel I blindly book will be free parking. If that's not the case then why filter?

They said I would have to cancel that reservation and book again at a hire rate. I called Hotwire and they take no responsibility. "It was booked by Hertz," they say. I think it's all an elaborate scam to get people to pay hire rates. Hotwire needs to take responsibility for purchase made through their site. Now I was unable to get a rental car for my trip because I didn't find out the day of. This is what Hotwire's website says: "Hertz does not accept debit/check card deposits, but does accept credit card deposits." Further down below it says it again: "The agency does not accept debit/check card deposits, but does accept credit card deposits. See important debit card info".
Here is what it says under see important info: "Car rentals: Keep in mind while you may pay for your car rental booking with a debit card, many car rental companies will not accept a debit card as a deposit when you pick up the vehicle, and you will be denied rental if you don't have a credit card for the deposit. International car rental companies will only accept credit cards and require that you have as much as $1,000 in available funds on the card." When searching for a car rental, you can choose to see only results for companies that accept debit cards for deposit at pick-up. In May 2019, I bought a vacation package (hotel and air) for 3 passengers from the US to Portugal from Hotwire online, for a total price of 4596 $, including 228 $ for travel protection (I am leaving out cents). The protection plan was the most expensive one offered on the website. Due to a family matter, we needed to delay the flight by one day, but keeping the same depart date/time, passengers, hotel, flight company and only adding one more night at the hotel.
I called 2 days after the original purchase and asked if I could change the return to the next day. I was told the hotel had room available, and as to the flight, I would get charged 308$ per passenger (total=924$) for changing the flight return date, but since I had the protection plan I would be reimbursed for 300 x3=900$ dollars and only will actually only pay 8 x3 =24$ plus one extra hotel night. I said I will talk with my family and call back. The agent said she did enter this conversation and the new pricing to my file so when I call back I did not need to repeat the request.
I called back the next day and asked for the flight switch, however, I was told the system was down and they could see my reservation but the file looked blank, and that their headquarters was aware and were working on getting the computer system back up. I was advised to call back in one hour. I called back and I was told the same thing.
I called the next day and an agent said the system was still down but now they were able to check manually! After a long hold, he said the flight prices had gone up and now the price difference was not 308$ but 730 $ per person. I said I had the flight protection, and I understood that flight prices might change but it had been their computer system being down for about 48 hours and this could not be my fault and requested to talk to a manager. I was on hold for around 30 minutes and repeated the same. The manager said she did not have the authority to resolve the issue but she would "escalate" the matter to her supervisor and that somebody would call me the next day.
The next morning somebody from headquarters called me back and said he was resolving the issue and asked me to hold for 2 minutes but I ended up holding for about 25 minutes and then I abruptly got disconnected! I did not get a call back from anybody until I myself called some hours later and again I was explaining and explaining and was on hold multiple times and finally I got connected to the headquarters and some manager apologized and said would take care of the issue on that very call. This very call took about 2 hours and I was on hold multiple times, each lasting about 20-30 minutes with total silence on the other line.
She would come online to ask me for the "exact" phone numbers and time/date of my previous calls which I was able to provide using my iPhone log. She said it was needed to verify that I had indeed called a couple of times during their computer system downtime. She verified them and they were all true but said they could not give me the original quoted price because I should have made the change on the first call. I told her that the point was that the flight price was unknown during the times in which the system was down (it could have either been higher or lower) but it simply cannot be the fault of the customer when the system was down and down for such a long period of time. She said she understood but could not do anything about it.
I asked about cancelling and she said I could cancel and get all the money back in about 7 business days minus the cost of the protection plan, which makes sense, and that I had another 2 weeks to cancel. Afterwards, I felt that I did not want them to have my business and money and decided to cancel and purchase with another vacation agency. Now, I just finished talking to an agent. I was on hold for about 25 minutes for somebody to come online for the cancellation option in the phone system. I provided the itinerary number and said I wanted to cancel.
The agent immediately said that my package was a special package and highly restricted and a cancelation was not permitted or I lose all the money!! I told him that I had talked to the headquarters 2 days ago and I was told I could cancel and that all the details should be in my file. He then put me on hold multiple times and for long periods to come back and say yes the hotel is refundable and then to say yes flight is refundable, however at the end the refund amount was 3268 $! I told him it is not a correct refund as it is short by 1100$. He kept on apologizing but repeating the same wrong numbers. Finally, after I explained and explained the math, he got it! I am to get refunded 1058$ for the hotel and 3309$ for the flight.
I have found refund receipts in the junk folder of my computer plus two "updated itinerary" which state that my package is cancelled but each of these updated itineraries is mentioning numbers which are different than my package cost. My family and I have travelled many times to abroad and used different agencies for booking, but I have never ever experienced such a bizarre customer service. All my calls are logged in my phone and I have all the emails and according to Hotwire, all the calls received by them are logged in and taped as well.
I stand by what I wrote here and I truly hope Hotwire does not get to treat other customers the ways they treated me. they do not deserve to make money providing such a poor incompetent awful service to travellers. All these were done with me being on hold for multiple times with long holds while there was total silence on the other line and I did not know if you are disconnected or still on the line! I must add that except for 2 agents I found the rest polite and repeating cliche sentences expressing understanding my frustration and providing apologies. (I am calling my credit card to alert them in case as well.) Thank you.

I had to stay in a MOTEL 45 minutes outside of Miami. When I contacted them they said they could not give me a refund. I even had pictures of the place with the "For Lease" sign in the window.
The rep told me they contacted the hotel so I tried the number again myself. I did get through to somebody at the hotel that day and they informed me that they did have a DIFFERENT ADDRESS and they share a building so ANOTHER NAME was on the outside. I booked a full-size car on May 2/19 for a 7 day rental for myself and 3 other seniors starting on May 26/19 in San Diego. When we arrived I proceeded on time to the rental agency to pick up the car which was guaranteed. There was a phone # to call for the Company named Ace car rental. This was at 10:40 am and when I phoned it stated this number was out of order. I might add there were a few other people who were also trying to get a hold of this company. I phoned Hotwire and was told by the agent that I should be calling another number which I did and repeatedly got no answer. I called back Hotwire who then tried to get a hold of them with the same problem of them not answering his calls. This was already over a hour of waiting.
The agent at Hotwire told me he would book me a new rental car elsewhere (National) at a more expensive rate which I disagreed with stating we had a contract but because I was travelling up the coast as well as having the others still waiting at the airport terminal I reluctantly said I would take whatever and I would deal with Hotmail later. He gave me a new confirmation # and I proceeded upstairs to National and waited in line for an agent to help. Another hour had passed by this time. I gave the National agent my confirmation and he told me the reservation had been cancelled by Hotwire.
Frustrated I went back to the airport to let the others know as well as then talked to Hotwire again telling them of my horrifying experience. They then told me after explaining the whole ordeal again (was disconnected after being on hold for over half an hour). I was then told to proceed to the car rental place again and that they got me another rental car from Payless. The rental from $156.77 USD ended up costing $577.80 USD withstanding the the runaround all of us seniors had to be subjected too and and extra cost to eat lunch for the 3 waiting there as well as a 3 and half hour delay getting a car. I will let each and everyone I know about the horrible experience I had from Hotwire and will never use them again. Karnal ** from Vancouver Canada

I called them immediately and explained this to customer service hotline. Min and Angel were extremely rude. They implied that I made the entire story up. The service is horrible when you request a refund or when you have a change of plan. However, employee at Hotwire are hopeless and lack of basic knowledge about the rules.

I am from Canada and I made a booking for a trip to Barcelona. Initially I thought it turned out to be a good deal as the Hotwire rate was 50% off. I checked the rates in other places (still not 50% saving) but all looked still ok after the booking. Except when I looked at my Visa statement, it shows that the booking was in USD dollars adding 30% to it. Nowhere on the page when I booked it said US dollar and I don’t know why a Canadian residence is referred to the US page booking anyway. The price is now more than what I would have paid normally. When I called them, they say they can’t do anything about this and this is their policy as there is no cancellation on this.
I understand the terms and conditions of the using the Hotwire rate and I won’t complain if the deals or the hotels turn out not to be so good afterward. (Example 2nd hotel I booked was still not good deal but at least it was Canadian dollar and I don’t feel cheated cause I knew it going in.) My frustration is in feeling getting scammed by not anywhere mentioning about the USD dollar and now having to pay more than the usual booking. I used to travel a lot and Hotwire was really good in the past. But recently the quality and the service has dropped quite considerably and feel like a scam. The savings are never there and really BEWARE of the dollar or the currency you’re booking. You might find out they charge you USD dollar after you booked. Would never use them again.

In March, my boyfriend bought me a ticket to visit him in Fort McMurray, Canada. Before my trip to visit him, something came up and we needed to cancel the flight. Apparently your company doesn’t provide refunds, only credits. Whatever. We made that work and planned a trip around using this credit ($441). After spending an hour and a half on the phone with an agent, who originally told me I could use the credit to fly to Fort McMurray ONLY, she finally confirmed I was able to book a flight to Comox, BC, but I had to pay $150 to USE my credit.
So my credit has now gone down from $441 to $291, which makes absolutely no sense because it’s money we already spent with your company!! Not only this, but I was not able to carry over any of the credit left over to use on his ticket, it was money we had to forfeit, which again! MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE IT'S MONEY WE ALREADY PAID!! But at this time, as frustrated as I was, I let it go because we wanted to use this credit up.
Fast forward to today when I got my visa statement, imagine my surprise when I see that the $150 I had to pay to USE MY OWN CREDIT was actually an American dollar amount and had been converted to $204.84 Canadian. The fact that the person on the phone could clearly see I live in Canada and didn’t mention anything about a conversion rate is ridiculous. Not only that, I bought a separate ticket for my boyfriend that should have cost $305, once again, I was not told this was in US and the ticket actually cost $421.37 Canadian. A trip for two cost me more than $620 BUT I HAD A $441 CREDIT!!! I am so disgusted and appalled at Hotwire's business practices and I can promise you we will never be using them again for anything and we will be telling EVERYONE what a horrendous experience it has been.

Extremely disappointed and infuriated regarding Hotwire services. Booked a hotel to stay in Nashville, TN April 20th after traveling 8 hours from S.C. I received the confirmation and receipt of payment. My wife and I get to the hotel where we had booked, only to be told they are sold out of rooms and that they have no availability. How is this even possible? Mind you, we had been driving for 8 hours and it was now 12:30am. We made a reservation in Nashville because neither myself or wife can see well driving at night and it would be a halfway point to come back to Chicago.
The hotel told us that Hotwire overbooked them. We call Hotwire customer service to be told that as we are driving to try and find another hotel we needed to download an app ourselves. Terrible customer service, Hotwire messed up and expects their customers to resolve the issue by themselves? Hotwire then tells us all other hotels in the area are booked and the best they could do is either refund us the money or give us $50 credit to use towards another hotel… Still did not fix the problem of us having a place to sleep. We had to drive in the middle of the night back to Chicago, another 8 hour drive with no sleep. I suggest that you confirm that when you are taking people's money that the hotel they have “reservations” for is actually available. TERRIBLE customer service and we will NEVER use Hotwire again.

I explained I booked the room for $54 a night, they wouldn't budge. I went on Hotwire site, found the room for $54 a night and told the rude person on the phone. I had done this type of booking before through Travelocity and was very pleased with the results. Out of curiosity, after I paid in full for a week's stay, I went to the hotel's website and checked out their retail prices. Wow. I saved a whole $7 a night off the $200+ regular room rate. Disappointing, but as the hotel turned out to be part of the Marriott rewards program, I thought my traveling companion's membership might get us a room upgrade and several other benefits. Wrong.
This hotel, and probably most others, does not extend member benefits to those that make reservations through third party vendors like Hotwire. Feeling even more disappointed, I then looked at Yelp reviews of the hotel. Some were good, but others were so concerning that I would not have booked this hotel otherwise. I called Hotwire to discuss these and other concerns. The representative just kept repeating the all-bookings-are-final-no refunds-no changes policy. My trip is scheduled several months out. Hotwire.com advertised it as unlimited miles. I called Hotwire.com and waited on hold for over 30 minutes to find out that they weren't going to do anything for me.

So I go to the counter to pay the additional $100.00 and they charge me $120.00 telling me that the guy earlier misquoted the amount. Now I am really getting mad, then they tell me that they don't have the Cadillac that I rented but a Chrysler 300 and that is the only car available for a luxury car rate plus the additional rate that I just had to pay. I just booked a "Hot Rate" hotel through Hotwire. So I expected to get a sizeable discount for the gamble I am taking and because it says on your website that the reason the hotels don't want their names known so that their discounts are not immediately known.
Once I booked and received the name of the hotel I checked the cost for the same room at the same hotel on Expedia and I found out that I only received a $4 discount of the total price (Expedia owns Hotwire). This is false advertising because under the conditions of taking such a risk and seeing "Hot Rate" with flames coming out of the price a customer is reasonably expected to obtain a much larger discount than $4. Within minutes of finding this out, I called customer service to let them know about this, and ask to cancel my reservation. I spoke to the customer service person and then his supervisor for over 40 minutes. I was given a series of lectures about how the booking systems and marketing departments work vis a vis Expedia, and how $4 is still cheaper.
