I booked my hotel and had a confirmation for a hotel near the Phoenix airport with an airport shuttle, with the airport shuttle being the most important feature of the hotel to me, because my car rental did not start till the following morning. I later received a call from Hotwire stating that my hotel was overbooked and that my reservation was cancelled. I was then presented with two options. The first was that I could get a refund, or my second option was that I could have Hotwire book a new hotel for me.
I chose to have Hotwire book a new hotel for me because I was driving to the airport, so I couldn't do it myself, and still needed a hotel when I got to Phoenix. I explained to the Hotwire customer service agent that I needed a hotel with an airport shuttle because my car rental was not scheduled till the next morning. She then asked me if the Four Points Sheraton at 6850 E. Williams Rd. in Mesa would be ok, to which I responded, "As long as they have an Airport shuttle, and can pick me up." She then indicated that they did, and proceeded to book my room.
I am not familiar at all with Phoenix, and I didn't have any access to the internet while driving, so telling me the address of a hotel has no meaning to me. My only concern was that the hotel could pick me up at the airport. Much to my surprise, after picking up my luggage and calling the hotel, they informed me that they were located in an entirely different area, and serviced an entirely different airport. I then called Hotwire to have this situation resolved. After waiting on the phone for 30-40 minutes while the Hotwire representative pleaded unsuccessfully with the hotel to pick me up, I was told that I needed to catch a taxi to the hotel and back the next morning (a 30 minute drive each way), and that it would be refunded by Hotwire.
I asked why I could not simply be changed to a new hotel, and was given the excuse that it was already the next day, and if my hotel was changed, I would not be able to check in till 3 p.m. the next day. This however did not really make sense, because it was still before midnight in Phoenix at the time. I was instructed by Hotwire to submit my taxi receipt by email, and I would be refunded in 7-10 days. Instead of being refunded however, Hotwire changed their tune and emailed me back saying they would not be able to provide any compensation.

I booked a room for three adults and was given a room with one king size bed only. I talked to the hotel front desk person and stated that will try to accommodate the next day. The next day came and all they said was "You have to take it with HOTWIRE, they booked for you this room." They didn't even offer me a rolling bed or sofa, they just said "We're booked, no double rooms available." My friends and I did not have any other choice but one of us sleep on the floor. I called HOTWIRE the next business day and all they said "We'll give 10% discount for the inconvenience." I paid $100.00 per night! And instead having a relaxed weekend, I had a back pain weekend!!

I have used Hotwire successfully before, but I won't try to fool with them anymore. I attempted to book a hotel for my mother. After selecting finish and pay the site returned an error that I had just missed that deal and that I would need to do a new search. None of the remaining deals were as good, so I asked to be alerted when new deals showed up. I received no alerts, but decided to check the site again anyway, and there is the same hotel I tried to get before, but one dollar cheaper. So I check my bank balance to make sure that I don't try to spend more than I have, and I see a hold for the amount of the previously cancelled transaction!
I call customer service and I can hear her and what sounds like several people in the background. She can't pull me up by reservation number, because I don't have one. We go around and around about email addresses and finally she sees the attempt to purchase and explains that it could not go through due to lack of inventory and not to worry about the hold; it will be removed in 24 to 48 hours. She offers to call the bank to cancel the hold, but it is Sunday. I attempted to make the transaction on Friday afternoon. So they have a hold on my funds over the weekend in exchange for an attempt to get a hotel room reserved. Ugh.

I live in Canada and booked flights & hotel through Hotwire.com. Horrific experience!!! Like many previous complaints, we fell for the currency trick they put on website. Started with Canadian currency ended with US currency through their web system. Got hosed 20% + more than we were expecting. Talked with 10 different agents there over 10 hours. Still could not get full refund. Did not get any service just wasted time and raised my blood pressure. The real problem is they all recognize the issues but in full denial that their website is misleading customers purposefully. Nobody was helpful. None of of ten. Customers deserve better explanation and services than that. Never ever ever go with them. Do not be another victim of their bad business practice like I did.

I can go ahead with this long dragged-out message about Hotwire.com and how they rip people off. And they certainly do with their promise to reimburse you if you can't make your trip but heed the warning. Hotwire is a bunch of liars! Such bad English. They sound like they're eating with their mouth full and talking to you. I feel like an alien in America! They want your money and they want it bad. And they'll do nothing short of stealing it from you! Nothing much left to say other than time to flush that ** down the toilet! Personal message to Hotwire if you think I'm going to pay for you to go on a vacation and **, and party on my dime your nuts!

I booked a hotel thru Hotwire and I even confirmed it several times thru Hotwire prior to arrival, only to find out that Maingate Lakeside Resort has not received my reservation. It took 3 hours (I was on hold for a total of 1 hour and 30 mins.) for Hotwire to fix it and I missed the shuttle bus plus I was charged for long distance call just to call Hotwire. What's the point of reserving and confirming it few days prior to arrival, and what's the point of reserving it thru Hotwire if in the end you will have to book it yourself on the day you show up in your hotel. I called Hotwire and they don't even care.

I recently reserved a car for an upcoming trip to Denver. I had to cancel the trip. When I tried to cancel the reservation I was told that I can't get refunded. I read the information prior to reserving the car and it stated that I could reserve and would not be billed until used and cancellation was fine. I called Hotwire.com and was told NO REFUND. I will never use this company again.

Horrible customer service! I made an online reservation for a rental car but received an error message that the billing address did not match the credit card. However, when I checked my bank account, there was a authorization for the full amount of the rental car charge. I spoke with 4 different customer service reps who all told me the same thing... I entered erroneous information and so the reservation did not go through. So why is there an authorization for Hotwire on my bank account if erroneous information was entered? I was told to contact the bank. My bank said there is no way that a transaction would be authorized if the information did not match. I am still on hold waiting on a supervisor after an hour trying to resolve this. Very disappointing.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS 3RD PARTY COMPANY!!! I booked a hotel through this company because I saw a 3* hotel advertised for $52. I get all the way through the process to be told at the end that my billing address did not match my credit card. So I said, "Ok, I will enter it again." Same thing happened! So I doubled checked everything and hit continue one more time just to get the same error message! So I decided to use another third party company to my hotel stay just to find out that now I had insufficient funds in my account to book the hotel! So I looked at my bank account and saw that Hotwire had taken 3 separate charges for over $300 each which left my bank account with only $46 in it! So I jumped on the phone with Hotwire and told them my dilemma only to be told that there wasn't anything they could do that they didn't receive any funds from my bank!
So I called my bank on a three way call with Hotwire just so my bank could tell them that the funds transfer did leave my account and now said "pending!" Long story short, my bank told me I had to wait for the transaction to fall off and Hotwire basically told me to go fly a kite! I believe this to be in some way fraudulent because how can I get an error message saying my billing address did not match my credit card billing address yet money was taken out of my account for the booking? Three separate times!!! So my advice to anyone even thinking about using Hotwire because you see a very low rate, RUN! BY ANY MEANS DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! You know the old saying, if something looks too good to be true it probably is!

Hotwire is a nightmare. Please stay away from Hotwire, don't waste your time and money. I believe they trained to steal people's money. I spent 3 hours over the phone!!! to cancel the hotel reservation because I need to make reservation for hotel and flight together (bundle). Guess what happened to me? After 3 hours they forced me to make another reservation, otherwise, they will not refund my money.
I reserved online with Hotwire but somebody from Expedia call me back. He didn't solve my problem. I just waste my time and then after so many back and forth, said because I was on the line so long they will give me 50$ coupon and transferred the call to a lady which almost didn't know anything about reservation and cancellation. I understood I should not reserve a flight with them again and I give up. At the I remind her don't forget to send my 50 $ coupon but she denied. Her supervisor said, "We didn't promise you for this coupon," and simply deny it. They are lying to customers in every second.

They have these rooms for sale and then offer a upcharge to be able to cancel them if need. So you feel comfortable to purchase the room knowing if need be you can cancel. No such thing. You need to dead or dying. I have never worked with these people and will not again. I usually use Hotels.com and they clearly state their cancellation policy and don't sell you some plan that you thinks is the same as what Hotel.com does. When I wanted to cancel my room Hotwire's insurance company, which I am sure they get a cut from, askes you for about 10 documents, many are private information. Don't use Hotwire. Their great deals are not great at all.

I used Hotwire for a last minute hotel room. We had been traveling all night and morning. We just wanted a clean place to grab a few hours sleep and a shower before continuing on to our destination. We booked the room not knowing which hotel it would be until after we paid. NEVER AGAIN!!! The room was disgusting! Feces all over the inside rim and underside seat of toilet. It looked like it had not been cleaned in months. We immediately called down to front desk. We wanted to leave, but my husband was so exhausted he just couldn't keep looking for another hotel, so we got moved to another room. A "suite". Ok - 1/4 roll of toilet paper, 3 pieces of Kleenex left in box, hair in shower, mold, filthy under sink and corners of bathroom crusted with dirt and hair.
I called Hotwire to address the situation. I can't believe they are promoting this cesspool as a viable option to stay in. The first call, I got disconnected and had to call back. Second time I got someone who couldn't seem to get my name right and couldn't find my itinerary number, even though I had the confirmation info right there on my phone. Finally she said she was connecting me with a different department. She then transferred me right back to the main number!!! Unbelievable!!! I will NEVER use Hotwire again and I will tell everyone else to avoid it like the plague. Worst experience and customer service ever!

I recently booked a hotel using Hotwire. This was an experience from hell!!! I will admit that I used them in the past and didn't have this issue. I booked my hotel and after it was booked I was told this was a run down hotel and all types of people stayed there. I am a woman so because I wanted to find out for myself. I stopped by the hotel a few days prior to my check in date and this was the worst experience I've ever had with a hotel. I pull up and I seen a lot of construction workers outside drinking. It was daylight so I decided to go in and check out the room for myself. I asked the clerk if she had a room she could just let me look in. She hesitated but I requested that I see a room. She showed me a room that smelled like 5 years of cigarette smoke. The clerk then says "your room is smoke free so it won't smell." The smell was the least of my concerns as I would soon find out.
The room they showed on the website looked nothing like the room I was showed. As I was walking to my car the men started saying things that were very inappropriate!!! I then called Hotwire to see if I could possible relocate or add more money to stay in another hotel and they weren't willing to help at all. They called the hotel and talked the same clerk that was trying to do all she could for me to stay. The clerk tells them those men were not going to be there when I checked in. However at this time I was afraid to stay at this hotel thinking something might happen to me. All Hotwire was concerned about was the fact that it was a Hot Deal and to hell with my safety!!!

I travel a lot, but had never used Hotwire.com, and I will never use them again that's for sure. I booked a room for 2 couples for Halifax for June 16th, 2017. I tried to cancel it or get it transferred to the couple we were traveling with. April 9th, 2017, tons of time for the hotel to re-book the room, and was told Hotwire.com has a no cancellation, no transfer, no refund policy!!! Excuse me. I have used Booking.com before. They don't even charge you until you show up at the hotel, and cancellations are not an issue, my goodness. Not an issue with Airbnb, not an issue with airlines, on and on.
When I requested this at Hotwire.com, they first said they would need more info as to why it was being cancelled, actually right on my confirmation of reservation it said it could be changed or cancelled at anytime? I got the same cut and paste answer from 3 different agents of Hotwire.com. They never looked at previous emails even in the same string. They are a rip off company. Wish I had read some of their reviews before.

We had a family vacation planned to Curacao for Memorial Day Weekend but thanks to Hotwire and Insel Air we no longer have that vacation. Insel Air decided to stop flights from Curacao to Miami. Best part is, Insel Air cannot refund our vacation for another 8 weeks. Oh wait, that would be the same time we planned to go on vacation. I guess our whole family will be vacationing from home that weekend since we can't get a refund sooner. We also purchased Travel Insurance from Hotwire but you can't get a refund on that because you only have 10 days to get a refund from time of purchase. We didn't cancel our vacation-you did!!! So we would like our money back. We waited over an hour and a half with customer service only for them to tell me all of this.
Here's an idea Hotwire: since you deal with several airlines, hotels, etc offer other ideas to customers (like American Airlines has a flight from Miami to Curacao, let's see what we can do to help you) instead of the customer service that we received. Worst Customer Service Experience-basically we understand but can't help you. Never using Hotwire again!!

We were forced to accept Hotwire as our internet provider in our community. Horrible experience with the installation and subsequent phone calls to fix all of the problems. First the installers did not hook up the phone correctly to work with the alarm system. Took 5 days to remedy this. They left exposed wires all over the lawn and the lawn people cut them on a Sunday so we had no service. Took 17 calls to get someone out here to splice the wires together. More than two weeks later the cables are still all over our lawn and our neighbor's lawn.
This is a terribly unprofessional company with zero customer service skills. They said someone would be out to fix the problem, then no one showed up. People were lying down on my lawn when I got home from work, for some unknown reason, however, nothing was done. More phone calls to Hotwire and still no resolution. If you are a community board member, DO NOT contract with HOTWIRE to service your community needs. Whomever in my community approved them was obviously easily deceived.

I booked a vacation package to Puerto Villarta, the flight was fine but the hotel (Hotel Iguana De Oro) which is owned by The Encino Hotel. Our hotel was under construction, the roof over the room next to ours and the one across from it was having the roof removed and the wood beams replaced by steel beams. The area where the steel beams were being grinded and prepped was being done above us on the pool deck (the stairs to this area were to the right of the door to our room).
First of all I want to say this is something that should have closed the hotel just because of the level of danger there was, I mean they removed the whole roof. I took a video of it! You could see the sky! The noise was unbelievable not to mention the constant construction worker traffic going back and forth past our room and standing outside our room yelling up to the guys above us.
We went to the Encino Hotel to tell them we wanted to move out of the hotel and we were taken to the manager Claudia who spoke both English and Spanish, and if she didn't we speak more than enough Spanish to communicate what we were there for. She said was curt and unconcerned for our safety and said that if we wanted to check out and get a refund we would have to get Hotwire to call her within 12 minutes and check out too. Well it's not easy making phone calls from Mexico as it is let alone get a Hotwire supervisor on the phone in 12 minutes so obviously we were not able to do as she said we needed to do. I asked her if we could check out tomorrow and she said, "No!" I asked her why and she said because she didn't want to!
We went to a friend's place and used their local phone to call Hotwire and spoke to Renee, this was on November 2nd, Renee said we could check out of the hotel and Hotwire would give us a refund for the 9 days we had left there. We checked out the next day and got another hotel which cost more because there was not as much available on this short notice. Renee said we would be contacted by Hotwire within 48 hours, it was about 5 days before we got an email from them saying they are working on our refund. The next email we got said they were not able to get in contact with the hotel and we would not be getting a refund.
To make a long story short I then made many many calls to Hotwire and was given a case number **, I spoke to many many people Lawrence, Johnathan, Anna, Joven, Jamie, Jessica, and Melisa. Many times I was told they would call me back but not one of them did. They said at one point that they didn't have the phone number to the hotel, so I gave it to them, then they said they were not able to get a hold of Claudia and just seemed to stop trying! I talked them into trying again and they were able to contact her and she said she did not know what we wanted because she does not speak English, which is a complete lie. Then Hotwire said that we would not get a refund because the hotel said we completed our deal with them. We will never book with Hotwire again and their practices should be investigated. Note to mention The Hotel Encino booking people into hotels under construction and endangering the lives of their guests.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CANCEL YOUR TRIP ONCE PAID FOR. Hotwire does not offer refunds, however they give Flight Voucher that is VERY specific in how to use it. My husband and I attempted to use our flight voucher once we found new flights, and followed the instructions in an email, but once we contacted customer service, we were told that the emailed instructions were incorrect. The instructions state that at least ONE leg of our flight had to be with Alaska Airlines, and we had to book before September 1st, and to redeem our voucher, we had to call Hotwire Customer Service. Once speaking to the Customer Service rep, she tells us that both legs of the flight need to be with Alaska, not at all what the email/voucher instructions state. At this point we had already picked the flights we needed to take and one of them was NOT on Alaska.
After 3 hours and 3 managers, waiting on the phone while they pulled our previous phone call to cancel the original trip, and then telling us the flights we were requesting did not even exist, they finally agreed to the flights we chose, charged us the rebooking fee and sent us an itinerary. They would not send us a receipt for the rebooking fee, and the scarier part is they didn't have to ask us for our credit card number. Two days later, we received an email that our flights had been cancelled, 3 hours on the phone with Hotwire, they finally agreed to THEIR terms and they cancelled our flights. We spent another 4 hours on the phone with Hotwire. This is a very dishonest company.

I realized that I would not get my money back after talking to Hotwire through series of emails. I paid little attention towards the cancellation policy before booking it as I was sure about the trip. After this incident I understood that Hotwire and Hotels are not in sync about the cancellation policy.

They advertised a 3.5 star hotel in Scottsdale at a great price. After reviewing the various franchises listed on their star rating description page, I decided to book. They then booked me into a Holiday Inn that is listed on their own site as a 3 star hotel, not a 3.5. When I complained and noted that some hotels are listed on multiple levels of the star descriptions, but not Holiday Inn, they said that Expedia rated it a 3.5? Expedia? Expedia had nothing to do with my booking... I booked on Hotwire! So, they list false information on their Hotwire website and then don't stand behind it and make excuses such as "the site needs to be updated".
Speaking with supervisor did nothing and they refused to pass me up or acknowledge the issue... So they screwed me good. Bottom line, don't deal with this company as they are dishonest. Furious I rented from a different place at the airport and was still charged the full rate from Hotwire!! I have made reservations from other sites and after found a better deal so I cancelled without any problems. But not Hotwire the minute you make a reservation they charge your card.
Stay far away from Hotwire. They are a shady place and they will not refund your money no matter what!!! Don't use Hotwire - you'll regret it! I made the mistake of coming across the hotwire site to rent a car. Nowhere on the site did I see it advertised that their hot rate cars are final sale no if's and's or butts. I was told when I called customer support that I had agreed to it in the terms of reference. Had hotwire been a more upfront company, they would have had that disclaimer as big and bold as their advertising for their rate cars. My travel date is over a month away. Why don't I have the option to cancel when other car rental companies allow it... no questions asked. Is there not a consumer safeguard that allows me to cancel within a certain time period?

They told me all modifications were subject to prevailing rates and my bill jumped up $100. A few days later I received an email confirming my cancellation as if I canceled. I've been on the phone with them for hours, spoke with so many supervisors, and it seems like no one understands anything except for the script they have in front of them. I have booked similar rentals from Hotwire multiple times in the past with car rental including insurance from Hotwire and never faced this issue. The exact issue is that when I went to the Advantage car rental, they did not accept the Hotwire insurance and they told that I need to have insurance coverage on my insurance policy, for the rental car because I live within 65 miles from where I am renting the car. When I told that I have taken car rental in past from same airport without such an issue, and the lady told that this is a new rule and refused to give any alternatives telling that I could go to a competitor but she cannot do anything about it, and refused providing the service or alternatives.

How do we get legislation to outlaw this despicable practice? We need more transparency when it comes to fees. We cannot make an informed choice when we are malignantly deceived by these companies. Shame on you Hotwire! If you're a person who wants more transparency when it comes to your bill then boycott Hotwire and all hotels that charge parking and resort fees on top of their "room rate." I travel extensively and now find it more economically beneficial after joining AAA and just booking the AAA rate. When I do check Hotwire, their "service fees and taxes" are about a 27% addition over the quoted price. I look at my AAA rating, and it has about a 13% effective tax rate. So, Hotwire would save me a grand total of (drumroll, please): $13. $13 to surrender all control over which hotel I'm booking, what kind of room I'm going to get (to include a possible SMOKING room - GROSS!). Ever since Hotwire was acquired by Expedia, the "good deals" on Hotwire have completely disappeared. So, unless you're getting about a 50% nightly discount (rare, if ever), subjecting yourself to Hotwire's hotel roulette game just is NOT worth the meager savings.

I recently attempted to book a hotel room reservation for Cooperstown, NY, for the weekend of July 30, 2017. I clearly indicated on the first two pages of the website Cooperstown, NY as the destination. On the third page several offers were shown. Not to my knowledge (it was not clear to me), Hotwire re-routed me to selections in Mississippi. I selected one and booked (paid), thinking that I was being offered Cooperstown, NY, or nearby. When I discovered what had happened, I immediately contacted Hotwire customer service, but to no avail. I spoke to a supervisor (Mark, I.D. # **), who offered to refund the original price of $99 a night, but only if I accepted a new Cooperstown booking for a price of over $300 a night. When I explained that the error was not mine, but a systemic problem whereby I had been rerouted without my knowledge (deception), the supervisor refused to even consider my explanation.

I am writing this review to express my displeasure in my first experience with Hotwire. This website came highly recommended as a way to save on holiday travel and so I decided to give it a try. I am a member of the armed forces and travel quite frequently. I also volunteer my time to coach youth track. I planned to spends New Year's Eve in Atlanta however, there was a track meet in Birmingham, AL that I needed to coach on 12/30. Therefore, I could only stay 12/31 - 1/2 at a 3-star hotel due to travel constraints.
I was pleased with the prices of $225 the website showed me for a few hotels, but I also noted that it would revert to dates I did not enter. I adjusted the dates, however, when I booked I noticed the website auto filled dates of 12/30-1/2 for the La Quinta Hotel (2-star hotel) for $320.19. I called Hotwire immediately and informed them that website had auto filled dates and that this was my first time using this website. I also informed them that due to my location and impending track meet, there was no way I could make it to ATL on the 30th.
The treatment I received is why I will no longer use your service and advise others to do the same. I booked early morning (after midnight) on the 30th. I spent FIVE HOURS calling Hotwire customer service only to be put on extended holds, transferred, and hung up on. When I asked to speak to a manager, one agent responded with "What do you think they will say that's different." I'm not sure what kind of training you give, but typically when a manager is requested, the manager is put on the phone.
Finally an agent said nothing could be done, but offered me Hot Bucks. I'm sorry, but auto filling dates sounds like an IT issue with the website and I immediately called only to be mishandled for hours then offered Hot Bucks. I was also told that La Quinta was contacted and said they would give me 12/31 - 1/2 for the money that I already pre-paid for 12/30 - 1/2. Does that even make sense? I was charged for three nights and a Hotwire rep came back and said La Quinta will allow me to stay two nights for the rate I prepaid for three nights. Is that how Hotwire represents you to the hotel? That is ridiculous and I was offended by the offer.
So after being up until 5am I had to coach track and try to make it to ATL because I was paying for three nights. I made it to ATL at 11PM on 12/30. I VERY EXHAUSTED from a trip I should've had to drive. The level of service that I received is unacceptable to say the least. Please contact me at your earliest convenience as I would like to be refunded for the night of the 30th. Thank you.

First! I'm only posting this because Hotwire would not accept my complaint on their feedback page. Upon arrival, we were told our room was upgraded to a newly renovated cottage. We weren't upset that the cottage was not newly renovated. But the old windows wouldn't shut or lock. 2 tries with maintenance to learn the lock fell out the window and there was nothing they could do. Traveling with lots of cash and passports we asked to be moved. They moved us back to the towers in a room that was freshly painted. The bellboy suggested we ask to move again because he would not sleep there. The next room's safe wasn't bolted down. I showed the housekeeping ladies who thought it was funny.
We both slammed our fingers in the stiff pocket doors used in the bathroom. And several cuts on our legs from the awful OLD 8 person excuse of a hot tub this resort uses. This beachfront hot tub/pool is closed down promptly every night at sunset (around 6 pm). They claim to have a 24 hour hot tub out back (which some staff said was open, some staff said closed, and some denied its existence) but unfortunately had yellow tape around it due to maintenance for an upcoming tennis tournament. We spoke with a dozen guest who just moved the tape and let themselves in after hours. When approached by staff, Some were kicked out and some ignored. But Not a single guest had seen any repair done to that hot tub during their stay (we all ranged from 3 weeks). Instead it appears the parking lot and sunken tennis court was being repaired for this tournament but the hot tub situation was still unexplainable.
We felt this entire transaction was misleading. The initial booking map had a line that went from the Hyatt to the north of black rock. Yet after booking we were assigned a hotel south of the black rock. Also though Hotwire said it was 4 stars, every other Hotel booking site rated it a full star or 1.5 stars down. That's a 2.5 or 3 star hotel at most (which led us to believe Hotwire adjust the hotel stars to meet their selling needs). We met a traveler at one of our favourite resorts last year whose rave reviews and the fact that she was staying at our resort for cheaper convinced us to give this site a try. We gambled with the first 5 days of a 3 week trip to give it a try and booked nearly a year in advance. We are thankful we booked 2 weeks through someone else. $100 extra per night is worth paying to guarantee your trip to paradise isn't spoiled. After our first use I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone! Lol. Maybe just your enemies. ;)

The hotel stay was just fine. That day I received the invoice that is attached below, which states the price of the hotel as $76/night plus tax with no indication of the currency. When I checked my credit card account online, I noticed that Hotwire has charged me $72 + tax in US dollars. Amounting to $126 Canadian dollars.
I called to complain but they said it cannot be fixed, and to send an email to their research department. So I did, and got a reply saying that all their rates are in US dollars, and they would not be refunding me anything. I think this practice is dishonest, and probably illegal. I have used Hotwire dozens of times over the past 10 years, and have never had an issue with their service until now. I never book a Hotwire hotel that has less than a 4 on TA. Once my hotel was revealed, the result surprised me as I had not determined it would be one of the possible results. I immediately went to TA, and discovered that it was rated 3.5 based on TA reviews. The most recent review was from mid-October, nearly 2 months ago. I have never seen a discrepancy such as this on Hotwire.
I immediately contacted Hotwire customer service, and got the standard run-around by the CSR ("It is a non-cancellable hotel", blah blah blah). I asked for a supervisor, and stated that it is clearly false advertising to represent that the hotel selection received a 4 on TA, when it is not accurate. I spent over 30 minutes with this supervisor on the phone, who was full of canned responses. She said that TA reviews (which are listed at the TOP of the hot rate hotels to specifically stand out!) are merely a recommendation... Huh??? Hotwire customer service is non-existent. I booked a serviced apartment in London recently (Ascot Apartments) through Hotwire. Hotwire charged me immediately when I made the booking and sent the usual confirmation email. It was meant to be a meet and greet service at Ascot. I tried to get in touch with the venue but had no success. I called Ascot and Hotwire more than a dozen times and sent 4 emails (all on the designated contact numbers/emails) to them but did not get one single response. I was essentially left homeless in London for half a day due to this and only managed to book into another Hotel very late that night and had to pay a small fortune through this alternative accommodation.
Having had no reply from them for many days I called again today and eventually got through to a Hotwire customer service agent. They basically told me it wasn't their problem as Ascot had already deducted the money even though I received nothing from them! The agent then became more and more unhelpful and would you believe then deliberately dropped the call as she was unable to deal with my queries. It is simply outrageous behaviour as Hotwire deducted the money off my credit card and Ascot apartments may not even exist as they do not return any form of contact and Hotwire don't seem to care whatsoever.
AVOID USING HOTWIRE at all costs as I believe they are simply trying to defraud customers like me and you. I have never experienced this form of treatment from any organisation and I would strongly advise all people with any sense to never use Hotwire again. They are refusing to reimburse me and I have now contacted my financial service company to report their behaviour to the criminal authorities.

I used this website to book a hotel in Iceland. They promised over the phone that it was a 3 star hotel and would have certain amenities. When I showed up this place was at best a 2 star hotel (it was a dump). Every drug addict in Iceland was either checking in or out. The lady at the front desk did not speak English or Icelandic. She was Chinese and the only thing she could do was check people in or out. I called Hotwire and was connected with a lady in the Philippines and would only tell me that all sales are final. They refused to offer any kind of refund and were of no help whatsoever. Any time you questioned their business practices they always seemed to have a scripted answer for everything. Basically for the most part everything I was told over the phone amounted to "you've been ripped off and there is nothing you can do about it."
This is a fraudulent company. Their business practices are nothing short of criminal. I don't understand how they are able to operate in San Francisco committing fraud on a daily basis stealing people's hard-earned money using deceptive business practices. Also, to add insult to injury the people who didn't use hotwire.com to book their rooms were paying hundreds of dollars less than I paid just by walking through the front door paying directly at the hotel. Talk about a predatory company. I believe Expedia is also a sister company to Hotwire. Hotels.com, Priceline, etc. I believe all operate the same way.

We have officially had our worst travel experience ever. We booked 4 nights at a hotel in London through Hotwire. Arrived to find a locked door to an apartment building. Two men smoking outside on steps said this is not a hotel. They advised us that there may be a hotel down the street that could help us. We walked all the way toting our luggage to the other hotel. They told us they hear that complain all the time. We called and called the number on the listing and emailed and texted (using our $1 per minute roaming fees and data seeing we're on our 10 year anniversary from America). No answer. No reply. We finally broke down and booked a night at a nearby hotel while frantically trying to contact customer service with Hotwire to help us resolve the issue. Received a call at 2:00 AM saying the man was there at the front desk ready for us.
We had already gone to bed and didn't want to walk the distance back in the middle of the night and we would go first thing in the morning. Hotwire gave us another number and told us John would call us in the morning. We never received a call the next day. We called the number Hotwire gave us. We had the man at the front desk of our Comfort Inn Hotel call the number. He said that it is very odd that they are using a mobile phone number for a hotel. We walked back to the hotel to see if we did not see an entrance possibly on the back side. Still no lobby. Just locked apartments. Found a way to get into the office of the building. Woman was on phone said "that's none of my concern. You'll have to find him whoever he is." Hotwire just advised us we were marked down as a no show and will not be refunded any of our money. We are now contacting our bank to mark this as a fraudulent transaction and see if they can help.

When my husband went to visit our granddaughter he booked the hotel room through Hotwire. He indicated one adult and one child. When he arrived, it was one king bed. The hotel had no doubles. The child is an 11-year-old girl. The best the hotel could do was give us her a room to herself across the hall. After contacting Hotwire, they said they don't guarantee room types and we had to accept that situation. We are in a legal battle with the grandmother/guardian and know she is going to use this against us. We will never use Hotwire again for anything!

I attempted to book a flight for my family and after a Google search for companies that accepted PayPal I went to Hotwire since they said they accepted PayPal. After finding a flight that would fit my family's budget the payment option for PayPal was not an option. I called the customer service number after verifying with Hotwire's FAQ that PayPal was a valid form of payment. I was transferred 6 times, and then hung up on twice! So the third time I just asked for a manager, I was connected with a manager by the name of Alex who stated that PayPal was never an option! I asked why they advertise as a company that accepts PayPal and why their FAQ's also state you can use that form of payment and his answer was "I don't know".
So I asked to speak to a senior manager or corporate and was directed to another person. She stated at first that I just need to check a box and proceed with PayPal. I told her there is no box and she started looking for it herself. Finally she decided to call her help desk and get assistance. After over 35-45 min she came back and said, "I am sorry they must of recently changed the payment option and have not had the chance to make the changes on their FAQ's and website in general!!!" And then another "Sorry there is nothing I can do!" How about you find a way to honor what you tell your customers and stop lying and misleading people? When I asked HotWire to refund or provide me with credit for the difference, they refused on the basis that I had to also provide taxes/fees for the LivingSocial price. Sorry Hotwire but taxes don't account for a $200 difference on a $159 night hotel room. I spoke to customer service at first and was speaking to a rep whom refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor thus my denial was via email. I overpaid $200 for choosing Hotwire first and was treated poorly by reps presumably in a call center on the other side of the globe.

I clicked on the "Hotels" tab thinking that for the time of year local hotels were not cooperating with the secret rate. Hotwire website asked the same questions again, but did not provide any listings. I phoned Hotwire but the rep asked at which hotel I wanted to stay. Duh! However, I went on Priceline and other hotel sites and their price is exactly the same as the Hot Rate except booking on these sites allows for 24-hour cancellation notice and the freedom to pick your own hotel and type of room. While I take responsibility for not double-checking the reservation before booking it, I never would have expected that the dates would change. I paid for this rental through Hotwire almost $300. I had to change the itinerary because I was stuck at the airport due to plane delay which was delayed two hours. I let them know and they said I can't cancel it but they can give me credit. I was okay no problem. When I arrived at my destination and I tried to use my credit to get a car rental. They said I can't because it's not hot deal. I said, "Okay, can you just give me back my money. I just want a rental and since you can't provide me one I want my money back." They said, "No we can't" so I had to buy another rental.
The next week I was traveling again and I called to book a rental again. They said I can't use this credit again because it's not a hot deal. They wanted me to book a hotel and car to get the hot deal. I told them I don't need a hotel because work pays for that. I just need a car rental. Again I asked for a manager the agent I spoke to said okay but she did not transfer me to a manager. They transferred me to a regular customer service. I told her I need a manger. She said, "I will be able to help you." I go through the whole process - wait a few minutes. She says, "Sorry mam. I can't help you. Let me transfer you to a manager." Why waste my time when I specifically asked for a manager.
Then the manager again I had to explain to her the situation. She also said I can't use the credit but I can buy a hotel I can use it. What part of 'I don't need a hotel' don't they understand? So, until now still I can't and haven't been able to use my credit because every time it's something with them. I just want my money back. I travel quite a bit and buy online and this is the worst travel rental experience ever. So, now I have almost $300 just on hold and not sure when I will be able to use them since every time I try they come up with an excuse. I wannnnnt my money back.
Updated on 12/03/2016: If I could give Hotwire a negative million I would. This is has been a nightmare. I wrote something in October after I was so frustrated. I never ever write anything and I am pretty chill person. I go with the flow but this is so ridiculous I don't want anyone to go through. I booked a rental with them and back and forth I have not been able to get my money or every use it. I have had to travel a few times since October. Every time I call it's an excuse why I can't use my credit. I have tried to book it for hotel and rental and flights and I am still unable to do so. They keep transferring you to different people and it's useless. I just right now tried to book a flight. They said I still can't use my credit. What the hell!
I want to use my money. They said I can't use it for flight now. I can only use it for rental and hotel. Okay so I was going to stay with a friend and now I was willing to use the hotel just to get this credit over with but you can't even see the hotels. I am going on holidays and I don't want any surprises. So, I just not going to book. I guess I will only have to make an excuse to use my credit with which is over $200 for rental. Anything just to get my credit and just use it. What a waste of time and money. They won't give me my credit back and they won't let me use it for anything else but hot deals. That makes it so hard to use that credit for anything. I never say this word and I don't get frustrated easily but I really can't express how much I hate this company. And the worst part the credit expires in a year so it's money that I have paid that I can't use and it expires. Do not use this company.

It was 20 dollars but it was the fact that I shouldn't have been overcharged and I understand that accidents happen. I called Customer service thinking it would be an easy fix but just the opposite. First of all you have to go through 20 question before being on hold for 27 minutes before a human answered the phone.
I explained the situation to the person but felt like they never understood a word I said. They kept reading a script I'm sure because it was the same answer for every question I had. All she could say is "we don't do refunds." I explained "I'm not trying to get a refund, I was overcharged." They put me on hold which was setting the phone down cause I could hear everyone talking. Sounded like a telemarketing sweat shop. She came back on the phone, said she looked it up and I was overcharged but no refunds I was told. I then asked to speak with a manager and she then put me on a 10 minute hold, came back finally and said manager is on another call. I finally after everything I just gave up.
I did email hotwire.com but haven't heard anything yet. So tomorrow I'm disputing the charges on my card. But it's just horrible that I feel that customer service is one of the most important part of a company. But like many Hotwire doesn't care. As long as they save a buck I'm sure is their outlook. But people like me are tired of this. Customer Service with a language barrier like this is disgusting. They might as well not have customer service at all. However, when I went to the hotel's own website as well as to various booking sites like Expedia and Orbitz, the price for the exact same room ranged between $80 and $82.37. Booking at these other sites also allows for 24-hour cancellation notice, not to mention the freedom to pick your own hotel and type of room.
When booking through Hotwire they pick the hotel and room for you and there is absolutely no cancellation allowed after you click. In exchange for this convenience they make the promise that you'll get a price that is lower than list price. I have been a big fan of Hotwire over the past few years. Up until Saturday, I could trust that the information provided in "hot rate" hotel price was accurate and that I could count on buying hotel nights that reflect the high quality of hotel that I choose to stay in. I booked a hotel in Philadelphia from the Hotwire website that claimed to have a 100% recommendation from its "verified" reviewers and the hotel had a rating of 4.5 out of 5. I was extremely disappointed when I found out that the hotel night I had purchased was a Renaissance hotel that Hotwire advertises on their website as having a 79% recommendation and a rating of 4 out of 5. That is false advertising! I then called the customer service number to receive a refund. I wouldn't purchase a hotel night with that kind of rating. Besides being extremely rude, I spoke to four of your customer service reps who made it clear that there are no circumstances in which a customer would receive a refund.
The explanation that both Carroll and Rhea gave is that the "recommendation" and "ratings" are not from Hotwire but from a different rating system exclusive to the "hot rate hotels". I asked where that information is published and apparently it is not published at all. So what Hotwire is doing is a bait and switch. They can essentially "sell" any room at any price and the customer is stuck with a crappy room based on information that only Hotwire has privy to. The recommendations and ratings are how the consumer knows the level of luxury and expectation. This system is one of the wonderful aspects of the internet sales business! I can't imagine that Hotwire will continue to capture any repeat customers by falsely advertising the level of hotel one is buying.

Hotel rooms were hard to find but we decided to get on the road anyway and try to find something west of St Augustine (our home). Called Hotwire and the person (in the Philippines) said that there was availability in Panama City. We asked her anywhere between Panama City-Panama City Beach and Pensacola. She opted for Panama City. Gave us the reservation number and phone number.
At first the phone number didn't coincide with the area code we know. We called and of course, it beeped saying we dialed the wrong number. So we checked on our phones for the Panama City near the airport Crown Plaza where we were supposed to be to find out that she booked Panama City in Panama!!! She charged us $291 for two nights and we haven't been able to get a refund. This is 20 days ago. They gave us a case number but no one is doing anything. We keep calling their call center in the Philippines - of course - and they can't even call you back or email you!! Come to find out that they are the same company as Expedia, Orbits, Travelocity, Trivago, Hotels.com, etc... This is a monopoly of travel websites that need to be investigated as they want to rip people's money and underpay their workers overseas!!! DO NOT USE THEM AGAIN. My family and I have used Hotwire over 100 times over the last 10+ years. I met some of their executives in San Francisco back in the 2005 timeframe, and I thought they had an interesting product. In the past, we've stayed in some great properties, and a few that were just OK. But we kept coming back. Late last summer, I used Hotwire to book a hotel in the Boston area. I really only needed a room to come and go from as I was attending a wedding by myself, without my family. So I thought, why not get a 2 star hotel, which in Boston at the time was still over $120 a night. The hotel turned out to be a Super 8 hotel in Weymouth, MA. I have NEVER stayed in a worse hotel in North America in my life. There was a cockroach in the bathroom. The room was so dirty, I literally thought I'd get sick. The bed was terrible. There was no internet service, even though it was advertised as free when I booked on Hotwire.
In the middle of the night, the police started banging on the door of the room right next to mine, and a woman started screaming. It was a real, live American nightmare. What happened next was even worse. I tried repeatedly to contact Hotwire's 800 number. After being on hold for over 30 minutes, I would be told that I had the wrong number. Twice I got Avis. Once I got Hotels.com. I would always check the number I called, and it was exactly the number that was on my online confirmation email. My guess is that they (probably through their parent company Expedia) have outsourced their customer service to a large Indian company, and their routing system was malfunctioning.
I went to the front desk, and was told I could cancel. But they said I had to contact Hotwire to get a refund. To this day, I have not been able to get through to someone who can help me. It is one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. And I've lived in Asia, Europe, and in South America as a high technology executive. I've seen it all. Hotwire IS THE WORST. My family and I have switched to Priceline and their products and services. We have been very impressed. I am now advising all of the companies that I sit on the board of to do the same. Barry Diller, you, Expedia, Hotwire, and TripAdvisor may be good at building empires. But you are TERRIBLE at keeping customers. I have sold my IAC and my Expedia stock, and am advising my friends to short both stocks.

I called immediately and, long story short, they ultimately tried to change me to the originally requested hotel at a price higher than I could get on my own. I canceled with their hotel (Red Lion) and booked at the original property on my own. They would not refund my $281 and I have been unsuccessful (so far) disputing the charge through my credit card company. Hotwire customer service is awful! The operators barely speak English and seem incapable of problem solving. If you have an issue, they put you into a phone queue that NEVER gets answered. It was necessary to select "book new reservation" prompt to get anyone on the line.

I booked a package deal on the phone (I record all my calls) and the agent told me I was going to be in an all-inclusive hotel. When I get the confirmation it says "no meals". I called back 3 times to correct their mistake within 10 mins after checking the email confirmation. The first agent I spoke to could not find my reservation. She transferred me to another agent who did not know how to change anything. I was transferred 2 more times and repeated myself again and again. I was told they could not cancel it, (even though I bought refund insurance) and that I need to call the hotel themselves. I called the hotel and they had no idea why Hotwire told me to call them. I called Hotwire a second time and was transferred over and over about 3 more times. Everyone I would explain the situation to kept telling me they did not know how to cancel or change the hotel reservation and would transfer me to someone else.
When I finally asked for a supervisor I was hung up on. I called a third time and asked directly to a supervisor. I was able to speak to a supervisor but she needed a higher authority to change the reservation. She left me on a 43 min hold to speak to another manager. And then I was transferred to that manager (named Barb at corporate office) who left me on another 45 min hold to try to fix the issue with their "helpdesk" center because she attempted to make the changes to my booking and could not get the site to work. The helpdesk also could not get the site to work. She gave me a case # and said she would call me back tomorrow with an end result, since she needs to contact the hotel to fix this issue. I will be waiting for that callback and updating accordingly. I have all calls recorded for proof and will file a dispute with my credit card if needed.

On Monday, October 10th 2016, I booked a hotel reservation online through hotwire.com. I booked 12 nights at the Marriott in Key West, FL. On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, I arrived at the hotel and proceeded to check-in. To my surprise, the hotel front desk personnel told me that Hotwire.com had cancelled my reservation that morning and that I have to contact them to resolve the issue. I contacted Hotwire.com, spoke to one of their representatives who told me that they cancelled my reservation but did not give me a reason why they cancelled it. Furthermore, she told me that Hotwire.com had refunded me in full. However, when I logged in my bank account, I did not see the refund register in the bank records. The Hotwire.com representative eventually was unable to help me so she referred me to another representative.
I spoke with the second Hotwire.com representative and she was unable to resolve the issue so she gave me a phone number to their risk management department. I called their risk management department and got a recording stating for me to leave a voicemail and Hotwire.com will contact me as soon as they receive the voicemail. I am still waiting for their response as I write this review. This should not happen to anybody. I have to booked the hotel at a much higher rate because I didn't have a choice. If you are planning travel or vacation arrangements, do not use Hotwire.com because they will cancelled your reservation without any notification and leave you and your family hanging dry.

I went on Hotwire today, October 11, 2016 searching for 3 Star hotel in New Orleans. I was happy when I saw hotels like Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza and Sheraton pop up but what did I get - Days Inn in Gretna, Louisiana. I immediately went to view the hotel and it was nowhere close to a 3 Star hotel. Other guest had posted their reviews and some had posted pictures of the dirty appearance along with nasty toilets, peeling paint, etc. I immediately contacted Hotwire and asked for a refund which they refused stating I agreed to a 3 Star hotel which I did agree to in New Orleans, NOT Gretna. Days Inn is not a 3 star hotel.
I notified Hotwire in a timely manner and had use them before but this is horrible, no way to treat past customers. I had been so please in the past. Besides this trip I have another booking with Hotwire in April. Can't believe they can't see I have or should I say had been a good customer but if they don't refund my money I will never be using them again nor will I refer them to anyone. My complaint does not stop here. If I don't get my money back the Better Business Bureau will also be hearing from me. It's not about the money which would be great but it's the principle. Give me what I paid for which was a 3 star hotel in New Orleans, not a hotel listed at Gretna, Louisiana.

I booked a car for 1 day for $37.58, including the car damage insurance they sell for $9/day. I went to the Hertz stand at the the Pittsburgh Airport. First surprise: The insurance Hotwire sell to not cover ANY damage to the car, although they claim it on their website, I had to pay $59 for the insurance. Second surprise: The rental value was different. According to my reservation, the value of the rental was $29. I was charged $40. Third surprise: I had understood that wall payments were made through Hotwire website, but I was charged for everything on Hertz. I hope Hotwire do not charge my card. I tried to argue, but Hertz said that it was a problem between Hotwire and me. I have to pay $112, instead of the $37.58 Hotwire informed me. Hotwire is just terrible. First and probably last experience.

We rented a room at the Capri Motel in N. Dartmouth, MA for 9/23 and 9/24 through Expedia.com for $110. I was a little concerned about it because the price was so cheap, but the motel had three stars so I trusted Expedia to only deal with reputable businesses. What a mistake! I was concerned about our late arrival time as we didn't get there until 10pm. There was a line at the registration desk with a man behind a glassed in security booth! There was a huge stain in the lobby carpet and the chairs were too filthy to sit in. My boyfriend noticed the condom display at the front desk before I did. We checked in and I told him we weren't bringing one bit of luggage into the room until we inspected it.
We went to the room and it was beyond filthy. There was an odor in the room that short of demolition, I don't think anything would get rid of it. There was one dim light bulb for the room and we could still see how dingy the sheets were! There wasn't even a blanket for the bed, never mind a bed spread! The floor was so filthy I would never walk barefoot on it. I wouldn't let my cat stay in this room. We immediately went back to the front desk and had to wait in line - they were certainly renting lots of rooms.
My boyfriend dealt with the desk clerk - the clerk was East Indian and we figured he'd have a better chance of getting a refund. The clerk didn't want to deal with us at all. Couldn't give us a refund. He could only talk to the owner tomorrow. He clearly wanted us out of his lobby. We weren't good for business! He then told us Expedia was responsible for giving us a refund and gave us the phone number for Expedia. We spoke with Jasmine. She said she didn't have the authority to give us a refund but would work with the motel owner and get back to us by 9:30 in the morning.
In the meantime, we desperately needed a place to sleep. I was having major surgery the following Tuesday and couldn't risk sleeping in such a filthy, toxic dump. Jasmine booked us a room at the Best Western right next door for $146.67. Of course, we told BW staff about our experience and learned the same man owns both hotels!!! The BW is for people with credit cards and the Capri Motel is for "cash" customers! We must have seen at least ten couples register while we were at the Capri. I am very confident our room was rented several times that night.
Of course, Expedia didn't call us by 9:30am on Saturday. I received an email from them late Sunday night. Expedia, identifying themselves as Hotwire by this time said there was nothing they could do. Subsequently I have spoken to two more CR's from Hotwire (Rose and Josh) - since they both had very thick East Indian accents, I doubt that was their real names. All three customer reps have out and out lied to me and I've obtained NO satisfaction. I am now getting back on my feet from my surgery. Hotwire does not understand they have messed with the wrong person on this one. I may not get my money back, but Hotwire, the Best Western in N. Dartmouth, MA and the Capri Motel in N. Dartmouth, MA will remember my name for a long time.

We told the hotel that we will not stay in it and contacted Hotwire. After 20 minutes waiting for an agent and we parked in a gas station Hotwire finally answered the phone. The lady could not help us to book another hotel, regardless that they issued a refund and we agreed to pay for the hotel. Do not book with hotwire. Do not book with hotwire. I called 10 times and was transferred to customer service. I never made it there because I was put on hold for 2 hours each of the times I called. I reserved car rental with ALAMO through HOTWIRE and ALAMO stated that major credit cards are only accepted and all I had was debit card. I did not take car rental. Now I am on the phone as I write this review. On hold now for the past 20 minutes and no one has answered.

I purchased a hotel room as well as the cancellation insurance. As I should have done, be sure to read the fine print! (Actually, I don't think this part isn't even in the fine print at time of purchase.) If you need to cancel, you have to submit documentation of your reason for cancellation (e.g., medical emergency), and they determine whether the reason is warranted. They make it nearly impossible (tons of calls, forms, time on hold) to succeed. Ends up NOT being worth the small amount you will save on the hotel. I either have to keep the reservation, or I am out over $300. Why did I bother paying extra for the cancellation "insurance?" If you really want to use Hotwire, the insurance will only help you in cases of what they consider a true emergency that can be documented, and even then, it's up to their discretion - not guaranteed. Notwire.

Placed a BLIND BID on a HIDDEN Property Hotel rated at 2.5 stars thinking that the property would be somewhat comparable to other properties listed as 2.5 properties. The property on (Riverside Drive in Macon, Ga) was listed as a hotel but was in fact a "MOTEL" and a dump. Meaning: the bed almost rolled over on me. They ran out of wash cloths. Maintenance did not knock before entering and walked in on my half naked girlfriend. Other guest hung clothes out on the railings to air dry. They made no attempt to provide room service. The receptionist was talking to her boyfriend on the phone while I waited for fresh towels at 10 PM.
The property was listed as a Baymont Inn property which differed significantly from other Baymont Inn properties that were NOT MOTELS. This was the second time I got burned by bidding on "hidden properties". They do not make any effort to vet their property listings so please do not use hotwire for hotels--they do provide decent services for car rentals however.

I have a long weekend in Germany coming up and decided to book my hotel through Hotwire as it appeared to be a good deal... Now I am out $332 and had to spend $600 booking a hotel through another site. I input my destination and dates into the website and clicked search. Little did I know that after the search populated the dates were automatically changed. I wasn't aware of this and went forward with inputting my credit card information and booking.
Within 3 minutes of receiving the confirmation email and seeing the incorrect dates, I was on the phone with Hotwire. I was told that they will not cancel or refund me and that if I want to change the dates my rate will go from $166/night to over $450/night. They acted like I should be thankful to be given the option to pay them triple the money to get the dates I originally input into their website. They have provided me with 3 different email addresses and multiple phone numbers to call to "resolve" the issue. All of the #'s lead to an automated recording telling you to leave a message; none of the emails are returned. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF A BAIT AND SWITCH SCAM!!!

Despite my greater than 100 reservations in the past - no allowance for a regular customer was offered. I am now done using Hotwire. Rude Company Employees!!! DO NOT USE HOTWIRE! Had to cancel a hotel and flight trip for which their trip insurance was purchased. Was kept on the phone over 3 hours. Three different agents had 3 versions of what would be refunded. In the end no refund was issued for flight. Was told a credit would be issued and had to be used within a year, and only through Hotwire. The agent "Ky from Corporate" would not provide a written confirmation of the cancellation or the credit. Only issued a verbal provided case number.

I am a Canadian who booked a room in Toronto Ontario on Hotwire.ca. All of the prices listed were in CAD and I found one for $96 CAD. After tax and booking fees it came up to $122, which is only $16 less than booking with the actual hotel but that was fine. However, they charged me in USD even though the listing specifically said CAD. It ended up costing me $161 for a room that was only $138 through the hotel. I called 3 times and played phone tag, being transferred from department to department with 40 minute hold times each time. Every time I spoke to someone they said that they were unable to access my booking for one reason or another. Do not EVER book with these scam artists.

BEWARE: We booked a room for the night electronically. The confirmation came back with the "wrong date." Which absolutely was their fault as the default setting on the site was the current date. We would have had to change it to get a different date. They tried to charge us an extra $50 to rebook in the same hotel. They said we could not be refunded unless: First, we rebooked through them, then waited until the date of the original booking passed and then, they would mail us the refund.
When we continued to go ahead and book a room - First, they couldn't find us a similar room in Las Vegas (mid week). Although we were looking at their site and could plainly see our options. Then, they started hanging up on us repeatedly to avoid booking a room (although, we were paying again, for a second hotel). After reading the reviews I knew we were just out the money, as they had SCAMMED us. We use other sites and companies for booking hotels all the time, as we both travel for business regularly. There are honest reliable businesses at other sites. So BEWARE HOTWIRE IS A SCAM OPERATOR! Read the other reviews and judge for yourself. I wish we had!

I made a 2 night reservation on the Hotwire.com website, against my better judgment, since I had a very bad experience previously when they reserved a room for me 40 miles away from my specified geographical location. I lost money on that situation, and even though I went to the room, it was such a poor quality hotel, I turned around and left. I talked myself into trying Hotwire one more time to give them one more chance, but they failed miserably. I reserved a room that was supposed to be 3 stars at a discount rate of $50.00. I have gotten quite good hotel rooms in the past from other sites, so I assumed that might be possible again. But I was so wrong. The night clerk was very rude and insisted that I pay a fee of $150 for incidentals or I would lose my reservation.
Next, upon entering the room, I was greeted with the most horrible smell I have ever smelled in a hotel. Like it used to be a smoking room some time back, who knows? I just know the odor was horrible. Next I was greeted with the most ugly excuse for a desk chair I have ever seen. It was so despicable, I had to place pillows on the chair to hide the ugliness and also to keep the rough edges of the torn upholstery from rubbing against my legs. All in all, another horrible experience with this poor excuse of a traveler's website. I would warn everyone to do their travel using other websites, and to avoid using Hotwire at all costs. I will never use this site again, and I will do my best to warn others to do the same.

When searching for a hotel for a trip to Edmonton on Tripadvisor, we followed the link to Hotwire because it was listing the hotel we wanted for a few dollars less than the other sites. Once we arrived at the website the price was even better (by about 10 per night on average) so we booked right away to ensure we got a room. Fast forward a couple days where I look at my Visa bill and discover that I was charged in USD, not CDN as was implied by the comparative pricing links. I ended up paying $250 extra by going with this site. I followed all the same links just to see if I missed something like the price having a USD beside it. Nothing by the prices but if you scroll around in the top right hand corner it has a USD (that cannot be changed) and at the very end when you are processing there is some subscript mentioning USD.
I have some responsibility here obviously but this company should be a bit more transparent about their pricing. Called them for help. Absolutely nothing offered in the way of understanding or support. I would have been happy with any kind of token restitution.. I'll never buy from this company. Terrible customer support. Sticking with tried and true sites that are upfront and honest with price listings.

NOPE! I assisted a buddy (Scott Temple) of mine who was at work and booked this for him. The people at Hotwire.com are scammers and do not allow you to cancel a hotel reservation even if you bought the insurance. We booked and tried to cancel 6 to 8 hours after that. My two children and I had been traveling 12 hours. We finally made it out of the mountains to Ohio turnpike I-80. I finally had signal and went to the mobile website for hotwire to book a hotel for the night. I had to use the "Use Current Location" option as I didn't know the name of any local towns in ohio. I choose a Hotel that was $65 and only 14 miles away. I paid for it and when I received my booking. I saw it was for New Castle, Pennsylvania... 68 miles in the opposite direction!!I call within seconds to cancel the booking and got an operator who spoke very broken English and said that they would Keep the money for my booking for 1-3 business days and then charge me again for another room if I booked over the phone with them for my immediate location but could not get me a room for that price.
I was livid. Due to their faulty mobile website I was told I had to drive 68 miles in the opposite direction, with no available funds for gas (we were on limited fundage) or have my available funds held hostage until I rebooked with them. I didn't feel very secure in this deal and thought since the booking was not the fault of the user that they should have gone head over heels to correct the wrong doing. They wouldn't. I back scrolled on my phone and took a screen shot of where it said 14.5 miles will continue to complain until the money is refunded, as well as gas, and tolls. I will never use hotwire again. I will add the GPS on my phone was working perfect... The way their website read my location was wrong.

I am livid. I live in Canada. I was looking at Hotwire rates for hotels in Montreal, Canada. The Hotwire rate is posted as $89. Only as the booking was going through did the website show that the fare was in US dollars. Oh la la. I tried to hit cancel as the transaction was being processed but it was too late. I immediately called their helpful. After a 20-minute wait, I spoke with an agent who kept saying, "Our default rates are in US dollars. You should have modified the currency."
I explained that my address shows that I am in Canada, I am booking a hotel in Canada, the rates quoted do not show that the currency is in US dollars...it simply didn't occur to me that the rates were not in Canadian dollars. I asked to speak to a supervisor. After a 10-minute wait, the same agent came back on, and said that the supervisor had said there was nothing they could do. I was eventually able to speak to the supervisor, who said there was nothing they could do. It should be a simple matter for Hotwire to show that the quoted prices are in US dollars, not the local currency. So - to everyone who lives outside the US and is looking to book outside the US - beware. Hotwire has lost my business for all time for their bullheadedness.

So I booked a car a week ahead of time for when I needed, I planned on picking it up at my destination airport. I arrived right on time, gave Hertz (they are also responsible) my name, saw my name on their reserve list, and was denied a car due to the fact that they didn't have one. A huge part of the blame for sure goes to Hertz, seeing as how they're physically responsible for giving away a car that has been reserved. BUT, my main complaint with Hotwire is how they treated me when I called for assistance. I had hoped I would be shown some sympathy seeing as how I was stranded at the airport with no means of travel anymore...
No, they put me on hold for over an hour, I had to talk to 3 different people. When I tried confirming my information with them they said that it wasn't to be found, and to top off the experience I was ultimately just told that there was no way that I could be helped and that even though they reserved a car it still means that a car might not be available.
TLDR: Hotwire reserved a car for me that didn't exist when it was time to get it, they didn't help me when the mistake was made, and didn't do anything to remedy the situation. In the end I was able to get a car with another rental service but it cost an extra 100 dollars. We booked two rooms at Baymont Inn at Cave City, KY for Friday, August 5, 2016 using Hotwire. We got "assigned" to smoking rooms, even though we did not request them. The rooms absolutely reeked. We would never sleep there ourselves, let alone allow our 12-year-old son and 19-month old daughter to sleep there. We requested a switch. Adding insult to injury, our traveling companions found a cockroach in their restroom. The very unsympathetic front desk girl refused to switch our rooms, or give a refund, since they already had our money. She claimed they had nothing to do with putting us in smoking rooms. She called her manager and supposedly he refused as well, though we have no way of knowing since the phone conversation took place right in front of us but in another language.
We proceeded to call Hotwire and explain the situation. After waiting for 23 minutes, we were cut off due to their offices closing. The next morning, we tried again. After getting in contact with a Hotwire representative, we explained the situation. He told us that since we did not specifically request a non-smoking room and the money had already been paid, their policy didn't allow either a refund or a credit. Speaking to the representative was like speaking to a brick wall. He recited the same company line repeatedly.
Why on earth would anyone assign a smoking room to persons who didn't request them and who they knew had 2 children is beyond comprehension. Given the toxic atmosphere of the room, it's borderline criminal. Everyone makes mistakes, but instead of acknowledging their mistakes and giving us a full refund and/or a credit for future use, Hotwire doubled down and refused to accept responsibility. We've dealt with Hotwire for many years without significant problems, but unless they at the very least give us a full refund and make non-smoking hotel rooms the default option instead of an "amenity", we will not do business with them again.
