I will likely never use Hotwire or their parent company, Expedia, again. I booked and paid for a hotel reservation on Hotwire.com for a room in Vero Beach, Florida on September 1 and 2, 2018. I received an email confirmation stating that my room was booked. My credit card was charged. After driving two and a half hours with children to the hotel on a holiday weekend, I arrived at the hotel to check in. The front desk clerk told me that they were sold out and that there were no rooms available. I showed her my printed confirmation letter with a confirmation number from Hotwire/Expedia. She apologized and said that Hotwire/Expedia had sold me a room that did not exist.
She said they had been booked for several days and that Hotwire/Expedia should never have sold me the room. I found myself with no hotel room on a holiday weekend. I called Hotwire and explained what had happened. There was no apology and no explanation how I could be sold a room and given a confirmation number for a room that did not exist. I asked the customer service agent if she could assist me with finding another hotel and she said, "No, I am sorry you are unhappy!" Not only did this ruin my holiday weekend trip, but I now will never book through a third party again. I will only go through the hotel directly. This is outright fraud and I am working to file a legal complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office.

Hotwire is the worst thing I ever used I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. The first time I used Hotwire was in North Carolina and it put me in an area that had people blasting music and kids running around till 3 am and the area was so bad I would of felt safe with my weapon on me. The second time was August 2018 in Florida and this time I actually left the hotel that they booked me in and went and spent more money on another hotel because this hotel was by far the worst. I will never use Hotwire again. Keep in mind it’s cheap for a reason because they put you in the worst places.

Once but never again. Booked through Hotwire hotel for my family in Olathe (KS). Hotwire sent me a confirmation. On arrival it seemed that the room was reserved. But a week later my credit card was charged by the hotel for around $ 600, claiming they never received any money from Hotwire. Called Hotwire customer service but the lady (from India?) was not able to speak proper English let alone solve the problem. Now mailed Hotwire several times but never received an answer. So now I paid the room twice for $ 600. Hotwire never never never again. You can book your trip anywhere but take my advice: DO NOT USE HOTWIRE!

Sent 3 emails to Hotwire.com after returning from our trip. The initial message was sent while waiting for our plane to depart on August 18th, a following up was sent on August 21st, then the last message was sent August 27, 2018. To date NO REPLY. Today I finally took precious time to call and speak with someone regarding my experience. Of course she offered NOTHING in regards to empathy, understanding or the ability to assist with resolving the matter. Nevertheless in my case, it worked out in spite of the lack of respect by Hotwire.com. The neglect of simply acknowledging and replying to my numerous email messages is unacceptable for ANY business desiring to remain profitable. Definitely will need to reconsider prior to booking ANYTHING with Hotwire.com in ANY of our future trip planning.

ADVICE IF YOU USE HOTWIRE: NEVER book their Hot Deals where they choose the hotel for you after you pay and agree that's it's non-refundable. And definitely DO NOT pay for the insurance. The insurance doesn't cover cancellations like on other booking sites. I have always had great experiences with their sister company Expedia.

Book the room with Hotwire. Asked for a double room. Got to hotel. It was a room with a single bed in it. Called and spoke with a person who spoke English so poorly he couldn’t figure out that the room had only one bed in it. After repeating “we need two beds, our room only had one” 4 times, we had him speak to the hotel manager. She finally said she didn’t understand why he was so confused. It was really simple. But he refused to help. We spoke to a supervisor who did at least speak English but was rude and not helpful and refused to fix the situation or refund our money. We ended up having to pay for a different room through the hotel directly. NEVER BOOK THROUGH HOTWIRE.

I had the most horrible experience I would never ever forget with Hotwire. This was my third time using Hotwire and it would definitely be the last. I booked my hotel through Hotwire 4 days ahead of my trip to Ohio but I never got a confirmation of my booking sent into my mail. It took speaking with 11 yes ELEVEN people at Hotwire to cancel my reservation. Absolutely the WORST, customer service EVER!

I had the most horrible experience I would never ever forget with Hotwire. This was my first time using Hotwire and it would definitely be the last. I booked my flight and hotel through Hotwire 6 weeks ahead of my trip to Virginia and I got confirmation of my booking sent into my mail. I flew to Virginia in the morning and immediately got busy with what I came to do and I finished up 9 pm with the hope of going to my hotel room to sleep and wake up 5 am the following day to continue where I stopped. On getting to the hotel, the hotel staff, very polite young lady told me my room was not paid for by Hotwire so the reservation was not confirmed. The Hotwire later called the hotel to make the payment after I called customer service but the transaction was repeatedly declined because of Hotwire bad credit card.
After like almost 3 hrs of waiting in the reception, that was around 11.45 pm at night, Hotwire called me back and apologise that the only thing they could do is to refund my money as they didn't understand why the transaction was being declined. This people sent me mail that my hotel booking was confirmed since 6 weeks ago when they knew they never paid yet. I had to call a friend living in like 1.5 hrs away in the middle of the night who later came to my rescue. I could have ended up sleep under the bridge. I just thanked God my wife didn't make that trip with me. I was just able to sleep for 1 hour plus before I jumped out the following morning, I felt so weak and sorry for my self because I didn't deserve to go through this having booked 6 weeks ahead. Hotwire is the worst ever. Please don't make your hotel reservation with them.

We booked a room using Hotwire's hot deal. We selected a 3.5 star hotel. When the hotel was selected, we weren't familiar with it. Upon review of the hotel's website, we determined that we could have booked a room cheaper, direct from hotel. When we booked through Hotwire, we selected hotel protection. We called Hotwire to explain the situation, asking them to cancel our reservation or assign a better hotel, to which they were not willing to do either and told us that the only way the cancellation could occur was inclement weather or if we were admitted to a hospital. We will never use Hotwire again and we suggest you don't either!!!

PLEASE DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL OR BOOK THRU HOTWIRE. My experience began when I arrived at the hotel. The rooms had cracked windows, drug infested and prostitution people living in the hotel “WELFARE HOTEL.” The pool was disgusting with floating pampers and green molded water. Hotel looked like it was abandoned and not been updated and maintained in decades. The place looked real shady, I did not felt comfortable staying in my hotel room.
I finally checked in my room and the room smelled like ammonia from Cat urine and dried up blood stains in the floor. Hotel room looked like a crack house from the 90’s. I complained and they provided me a new room which still sucks, I had no choice so I bought air fresheners to make the room smell a little decent. I left my belonging in my room and took a walk at the boardwalk.
When I arrived back in my room someone was staying there and all my stuff was thrown out in the lobby. I complained to the manager and he said, "Since you booked thru 'HOTWIRE',” I got a cheaper rate and they got more money from another customer. Manager said they didn’t have any more reservations and I will have to call “HOTWIRE” to discuss on getting my money in return. I called Hotwire and they called the Hotel to confirm what happened. Hotel lied about everything and HOTWIRE SAID THEY ARE NOT REFUNDING MY MONEY BACK AND THEY ARE SORRY!!! In a nutshell Hotwire and Knights Inn Atlantic NJ stoled my money.

This is about the customer service. I purchased ya tickets to California last year, One for my boyfriend and One for myself and I purchased the insurance. I had to unexpectedly cancel my trip and when I tried to use the insurance I was told I could only use it for a death or sickness! And then I told them I had neither so they gave me a credit for one year and said I had to pay $200 PER PERSON when I book the hotel again which doesn’t make sense because I paid for the tickets with one card. Then I called and asked if I could have both credits in my name because me and my boyfriend broke up and they said I had to keep it in his name which again doesn’t make sense because I paid for both tickets under my name. Needless to say I am very upset with my experience with Hotwire and will not be using you guys again for my travel and I have used you guys multiple times. My credit has now expired and I am out almost $900 just wasted! Horrible customer service!

I booked a hotel with Hotwire and chose a 4 star rating for 3 families (3 per room). When we were given our hotel I called the hotel to check out accommodations... I was told that we have a single room and would be charged an extra $25 per family if the room needed a rollaway bed. What? We were 3 people in a room Hotwire makes you choose your star rating... I chose 4 star! How does a rollaway bed equate to a 4 star hotel? After me hearing this information I called Hotwire and YES I was confused/upset - We were going to New York with our son who is 17 and too big for a rollaway bed or to sleep with mom and dad. Hotwire said that they will call to rebook elsewhere...
I was on the phone for 3 hours. They could not find any other hotel. Sounds fishy! Now they are going to call the hotel they booked me with and they said that they are going to confirm a double room (2 beds) in each room for my booking, now, I'm happy it's 1:20 am and they are going to send me a confirmation. When I woke up I checked my email and there was no confirmation. I called Hotwire again!!! I was on the phone for again approx. 3 hrs. This is crazy! In the end they were crediting me $100 Hotwire dollars to use on my next booking and I'm getting a double bedroom (2 beds) and the other 2 families might get rollaway beds.
I arrive in New York, I check in, I did not get a double room; the hotel does not have any left. I did get a room that equate to 2 stars and a rollaway bed that I almost had to fight for in front of a crowd of people. In the end Hotwire said whatever they could to get me off the phone and for my persistence they credited me $100 Hotwire credit. This was all to their favour because they had me pay 4 star fees for a 2 star service. I'm one unhappy Hotwire customer,

First and last time I’m ever using Hotwire. Looked for a hotel for 2 nights with the hotwire rate and I didn’t like the no refund policy so before I passed on it a “button” came up saying “not sure you can make the date? Get hotel protection!” So I bought the protection. Sure enough plans got changed and when I went to get my $250 back, hotwire referred me to the junk travel insurance company they work through and the only time you can collect is if you are dead or someone close to you is dead. Plus the hotel was in a high traveled area and so they made double the amount as I am positive they were able to fill the room. Won’t ever use the travel insurance OR hotwire ever again and we travel a lot too.

I called hotwire and the lady at the customer service kept repeating the same statements like a recorded tape that I have to pay all extras such as room service, parking, etc. I told her those are optional services and anyone knows that if you use those services you have to pay for it. It is a universal understanding for all. But what I was charged was "Mandatory". Either I use the internet or not, the food coupon they provided or not, I had to pay for it. No help at all, she kept reading me the same clause.

I rented a car for a pickup of 930pm on Friday and dropoff at 11pm on the following Wednesday. When I got the email confirmation after going through all the steps on the website to book the site reverted my times back to their default of noon and noon for pickup and dropoff. I did not notice this until the night before pickup when I went to confirm 9 or 930pm and found the error. Hotwire refused to change the dropoff time as I could work with the pickup claiming that Enterprise, the car rental company they booked through, would not make the change and stating that all sales were final and could not be modified. Now that I am driving 8-9 hours home on that Wednesday I am going to be charged extra for not being there to turn in this rental at noon which was not what I had selected to book.
BEWARE of their site making changes in the background without your knowledge and locking you into the booking which could not be cancelled as they stated "Hot deal rate"!!! I will never ever again book ANYTHING through this company who I think are all crooked and their site needs to be taken down and rewritten so it works correctly. I will end up having to pay an additional day for this rental. They claimed they could cancel and rebook (Hotwire) but would cost me an additional $325 on top of what I had already paid. Yet when I wanted to cancel as I had worked a backup plan with Enterprise they claim it could NOT be cancelled. They are just a bunch of **!!! Run far far away from Hotwire no matter what the price is they claim they can get you as you will pay in the end!!!

The representative said I will get the refund, but didn’t mention that the booking fee are NONREFUNDABLE. I searched tickets for 6 persons with Hotwire.com again then search with Orbitz.com and with Expedia.com and decided to book my ticket with Expedia.com. With the same itinerary for 6 persons I was charged only $12.95.
Today I signed in to my bank account and found out that the original air ticket price was not go through because I cancel within 1 hour after booking, however the booking fee $50 from Hotwire go through. I called Hotwire, and they said they couldn’t find any way to refund my booking fee. They say they are sorry. Is there anybody aware or notice that when they get the confirmation email about the cancellation they don’t really get full refund? I read the reviews and decided to book with Hotwire AND Molicie Hotel and Spa in Medellin, Colombia. That was a terrible decision. Overall, everything advertised on Hotwire was fake and misrepresented. You will find this hotel in front of a construction site from 7am till 6pm. The hotel itself is like a prison and feels like a prison. Staff does not speak English. No premium bedding, you get a bar of soap, and a 12 in TV, no A/C in the room and no hot water after midnight. You get charged for additional guest who comes to visit you.
I spoke to Hotwire and Raven, a manager with Hotwire. Nothing was resolved. In fact, they told me to read the hotel policies and their policies. This was my last time booking with Hotwire. It's no wonder they have so many complaints. Bad company, bad representation, and no customer service resolve. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HOTWIRE for your vacation needs. I do not recommend this hotel at all. It shows a three star but it is a zero star in my opinion. Be warned. Book at your own risk!

I made a reservation for a car to be picked up in Fort Lauderdale, Fl and returned in Melbourne, Fl. Their system allowed me to go through with the reservation, but when I received the confirmation in my email, the drop off place was changed to the same pickup place. HOTWIRE has a "no cancellation" policy and due to a hearing disability I was not able to understand the operator. They should have a way to cancel, online, the same way we are able to make the reservation. I believe they deceive people by not being upfront. They should have told me they had no drop off service in Melbourne, Fl.

This is my first and last time using this internet service. I booked a car at Atlanta airport, paid the amount charged on my credit card. When I get to the airport to pick up the car I was told that I had to have a flight itinerary, showing where I flew in from and where and when I was flying out. I was shocked and told the lady behind the counter at Ace car rental, (who I might add was a very unconcerned and not customer oriented at all), that that was not part of the online process. She insisted that it was and it was just too bad I didn't read the fine print. I proceeded to call the Hotwire customer service number. The gentleman who answered my call said there was no reason for them not to rent me a car. He spoke with the lady behind the desk and she told him the same thing that that was part of their policy.
At that point I was upset and asked for a refund of all of my money. He first said their policy was no refund. After going round and round with him. He decided to refund me but my money would be tied up for at least 7 days. So I could not use my card to reserve or pay for another vehicle. Please beware of this service, they have no right to rent to anyone if they are not aware of the company's policy. As for Ace car rental, I will never use nor refer them to anyone.

I end up choosing the best deal and after checking the bill which was very much double of what they were promoting (the hotel was charging $50 and Hotwire’s fees and taxes made it more than $100 a night) but we needed a place to stay. Once I was able to see the full information it showed that the hotel was in Atlantic City, Galloway IN NEW JERSEY! And I was in Maryland with no intentions to drive more than 5 hours away. I called immediately, maybe 3 minutes after paying and they told me that IS NON REFUNDABLE. I tried talking to supervisors and they told me that they have ways to see that I was the one who made the mistake. They offer me $50 back! No hotel in this area was going to take that money for 6 people. I didn’t have enough money for a hotel so I had to drive back home. I am so disappointed and upset. We booked a stay at Hotwire 3 star hotel - selected 2 beds - in San Diego in March for a June vacation (was "Crowne Plaza"). We had booked 3 months ago!). After 2 different calls, hours on phone with rude customer service "robots" where Hotwire 1st admitted they canceled without notifying us, they then rebooked a different option. A Hotwire supervisor then denied that they had canceled in 1st place (lied to me - a previous employee had already admitted the mistake). The new room booked last minute didn't accommodate 2 adults/2 kids so stressful (King = 3 person limit).
Upon arrival the hotel suddenly had a 2 bedroom that another guest had vacated, but everything in the room was broken (AC, safe, etc - hot smelly room someone didn't want) & room smelled smokey, moldy, was dirty as they didn't clean after other guest vacated (didn't bother to restock the soap). So hot we couldn't sleep & AC repair people kept coming in room during day disturbing us. Hotwire destroyed our vacation by canceling a locked in reservation, refusing to refund money, then failing to provide us with what was offered (a 3 star 2 bed accommodation smoke-free in quality hotel). I have used Hotwire for years, so I was completely taken off guard, shocked and appalled at how I was treated on June 9th. Booking air travel through Hotwire.com, I expect to be notified of itinerary changes, and was pleasantly surprised that our itinerary remained unchanged in the months before our trip. I printed the itinerary from Hotwire.com on June 5th, and we flew from OAK to SEA on the 6th uneventfully. After a wonderful trip, we presented ourselves at the Alaska Air counter for check-in for our trip home, 5 hours ahead of our flight time. However, the flight Hotwire.com booked us on, did not exist. Thank goodness we were 5 hours early! We and Alaska staff could see our itinerary online on Hotwire.com, but it just was not an existing flight. Alaska offered us seats on a flight to SFO, but our car was in Oakland, and Alaska didn't have any flights at all to Oakland that day.
Alaska staff were extremely helpful and told us of other airlines with flights to OAK. I called Hotwire, and was told that I had to work it out with the airline. Requested a supervisor, and was put on hold for 20 minutes. Keeping my phone on hold, I called Hotwire with another phone. I explained that I can't be kept on hold, because I am standing at the airline counter with NO WAY TO GET HOME, because Hotwire booked me on a non-existent flight, that I can't work it out with the airline, because they don't have a flight! A supervisor named Sean came to the phone. He told me my booking is non-refundable, and they are not putting me on another airline, and I had to work it out with Alaska. At this point I was crying, (Gah I am so weak sometimes) and my boyfriend had to take over the call (it was his phone anyway :)).
'Supervisor Sean' continued to refuse to accept any responsibility. He agreed to talk to the Alaska Air agent. She advised him that they would be more than happy to give us seats on a flight, if there was a flight to our destination! She started to provide him information of other airlines that had flights, and he yelled at her. She gave the phone back to my boyfriend. 'Supervisor Sean' refused to provide a last name or an ID reference. Boyfriend thanked him for being no help at all, told him we'll figure it out, and ended the call. 'Supervisor Sean' had the nerve to CALL BACK and yell at us for 'being rude.' In the end, we accepted the kind offer of a flight from Alaska to the wrong city, and found a ride to our car. I will never trust hotwire.com again, and don't understand how they remain in business if this is how customers are treated when customer service is needed.

There was NO comparison. Not only do they misrepresent their promotion of a "deal" but they do not take into account the safety or cleanliness of the property. I understood that my reservations were non-refundable and they expect the consumer to abide by those terms but this website is NOT looking out for the best interest of the consumer. What is the responsibility of this business? It is their business to know about the properties that they are representing. There is NO way the other hotel sites were comparable to this hotel. As far as I am concerned, this is false advertisement. I ended up walking away from this hotel because there were long-term residents living there. It did not look safe, it was very dirty outside and the room smelled of smoke.
Furthermore, I was afraid to even leave my rental car parked there. There were guys working on their cars/truck in front of the hotel. However, the manager tried to get us a room at the hotel next door but it was booked. She could not provide us with a safe/clean non-smoking room. We had to find somewhere else to stay and paid 4x more.
This place should NOT be a "choice" on this website or any online website for that matter. It should have not been advertised in a "mystery" deal. It did NOT compare to any of the other hotels offered on the "mystery deal." I called Hotwire and expressed my concerns so others would not have to experience this and lose their money. They said that they do not know what the hotels look like. Their star ratings are based on consumers. So I asked them if they have read their own reviews about this particular site because the reviews were all negative. I was professional about it and wanted to speak to someone in the United States but they were not able to accommodate my request. I was offered $25.00. No thank you! The point was missed and I would NEVER use Hotwire again!

They have a guarantee that they are lower than the rack rate. They don't make it clear that the guarantee only applies to the room rate, and that they make up for the discount by simply moving the discount amount to the "fees" side of your charges, so that I end up paying more than just using Marriott's reservation website, which in this case is $175.41.
Yes, I paid $.32 more using Hotwire. And they I called just now and they won't even pay me back $.32. They said Hotwire's room rate is lower, and it doesn't matter if the taxes and fees are 3 times higher on Hotwire than are charged by the hotel. I wanted them to refund me for overcharging me $12.32 on the taxes and fees compared to the rack rate taxes and fees. They said, no the guarantee doesn't cover that, and they are very sorry that I ended paying more using their services than booking directly, and please visit our site to make my next hotel booking, thank you very much!

We recently reserved a room from Hotwire for Durango Colorado for a vacation to ride the train but because of the recent fire the railroad cancelled our reservation and refunded us our money. I contacted Hotwire to see if we could get our money back $500.49 since there was no reason to make the trip now because the railroad would not be running. But they were rude and would not refund our money even though it was out of our control because of the wildland fire burning near Durango. I would not recommend this company to anyone because their customer service is crap. They don't care at all about you as a customer. They just want your money and are not willing to make things right.

The site said you could choose the type of bed set-up you preferred. Once booked, I reviewed my purchase and was given a king bed and a couch at Cambria Suites in Fort Collins, CO. They also excluded the free breakfast. I called the hotel and they said too bad. I tried to use the cancellation insurance which stated you could cancel for any reason. Not so, medical emergency or catastrophe only. I am Giving Cambria Suites a negative review also. My family and I visited the Wyndham Hotel in New Jersey, May 9th through May 13th. Not only were we given the worst room in the hotel because we booked through Hotwire, but there were bed bugs on the bed. We have photos and video footage of the incident that we will soon make public since this situation was handled very poorly by both the General Manager of the hotel and Hotwire themselves. We had to contact Hotwire 4 days in a row just for a credit of 1 night out of the 5 nights we stayed and a $40.00 credit to our next booking. That is little to no compensation for a situation at that extent. I contacted Hotwire on June 15th to advise that I would like to give Hotwire one more chance to make a new booking for a more expensive hotel this time round. I requested to at least have $60.00 Hotbucks applied to my account instead of $40.00 which is really an insult in this instance.
I am a senior manager at a corporate office and I know how it should have been handled. However, the supervisor Brandi advised that she is unable to give me a further discount with an extremely nasty attitude and stated that it was a final decision. Then she immediately disconnected the call after speaking with her for less than 2 minutes. I called customer service and this is how I am treated. When I arrived to the hotel, I found out it’s a weird concept of a 5 stars: there was no lobby, no one to help with the luggage. The rooms were very dark, and if I wanted to turn off the lights at night, I would have to lose my A/C. When I tried to call them from there, they put me on hold forever, and upon my return home, they would take no responsibility. Hotwire is not to be trusted. They sell you a cat in bag, literally!

I just arrived for a 5 night stay at a hotel I booked through Hotwire. I have booked before through Hotwire and never had any issues. I am a single mom of 4 and booked a hotel knowing it would not be a 3 star or even a 4 star. This is a quick getaway and I am ok with that. The website offered court view or creek view rooms. I chose court view since the view didn't really matter. The site showed an ok looking hotel with outdoor and indoor pool. Room was equipped with a mini fridge but no microwave. I called the hotel to verify if the hotel had access to a microwave and was told yes in the lobby. Upon arrival today we were told we were in an older hotel they had acquired across a fairly busy street from the hotel shown on the website. The room looks as though it hasn't been updated in 30 years.
Beds are like springs, there is a pool on this side of the street but it honestly looks like milk. The bottom of the pool is not visible at all. My children has to cross a busy street in order to reach the other indoor or outdoor pool. This part of the hotel is honestly a dump! I spoke with the ladies at the desk who were very polite and they had no rooms in the hotel with pools. They suggested I call Hotwire. The customer service agent was absolutely one of the rudest people I have ever spoken to. No help at all! He would not listen to me and repeatedly cut me off. I'm considering buying a car, and decided to rent a similar model for a week to evaluate it. I entered 'rent a ...' on the search engine and several options were presented. I chose Hotwire.com and was directed to their website. I set the rental car parameters, and the site pictured the very car I wanted. So I entered the required info, including my payment info. But when I received the confirmation (from Enterprise), it stated that I would get either the car pictured, or a similar car. Enterprise customer service confirmed that they could not guarantee me the car I thought I was renting (they promised me their best efforts and have been absolutely great to work with).
Since I had no interest in evaluating any cars other than the one I initially sought to rent, I decided to ask Hotwire to cancel the transaction. Even though I had made it less than an hour ago, they flatly refused. Their customer service rep and her supervisor merely repeated that it was non-cancellable. I used Hotwire thinking that they could help me find a hotel just for one night, close to where I was in Fort Worth. I gave my zip code and said I had to have something very near to my location. Everyone knows that Hotwire uses a marketing scam of not giving the name of the hotel you are reserving, "because the prices are so low". I have never heard of a more bogus, outright lie in all my life, but I fell for it because it was 0100 in the morning and I was dying to get into a bed. Well, to my utter shock and dismay, when I found out the location of the hotel, it was 45 miles from my location.
I just could not believe it, in Irving, Texas. I drove the distance, went to the hotel, and was again shocked beyond belief to see the hotel that they said was a bargain for me. I went to look at the room and it smelled horrible, had old carpet, and was in one word, despicable. I went to the front desk and of course they refused to give me a refund; I did not want to battle it out with Hotwire at 0300 in the morning, so I found another hotel.
The next day, I called Hotwire, and their only response was, "We cannot guarantee the quality of any room that we reserve for a customer. Then I mentioned that the hotel was 45 miles away from the location I had specified, and they had no legitimate response. One female actually had the audacity, and sheer stupidity to say, "You stayed in the room, so it must have been ok". I am not sure where she got the information, I told her I did not stay in the room, and instead rented a room of much higher quality closer to my location.
They should be known as scammers, pure and simple. They like to lure in potential customers, having them think that a great deal is on the horizon, when they do their best to make sure the customer does not get a good deal, and does not meet their expectations. I have not used Hotwire since that time, and never will again. I tell everyone I know to avoid using that site and hopefully they will listen to my advice.

This past week I used Hotwire.com to book a hotel for a short trip I went on. I decided to use the hot rate and hoped to get a good deal. The choices of the hotels were nice... All except one. Of course once I paid and went through everything the hotel that I was paired with was the one that I did not want. In the end, I did not have a lot of issues with the hotel... Thank God... But, I was left feeling like the other Hotel choices we're not really on the menu. First off, the hotel that I was paired with was an Extended Stay. As I said I had no problem with the hotel but I was only on my trip for two nights. The thing I was looking forward to the most was a continental breakfast. Extended Stay did have it but it consisted of granola bars and coffee and I understood because the hotel room has a full kitchen.
Now, I do not understand why Hotwire would send me to an Extended Stay hotel if I am only staying for 2 nights. If I am staying at a hotel for 2 nights, I am not looking to go to the store and buy breakfast to put in the fridge. Hotwire should really narrow down results better and not give people false hopes of what hotels they will be paired with. To make matters worst, you can't even make any changes to the reservation when you use the Hot Rate. In the end, I am glad I had a great trip, but, I now feel like Hotwire is misleading and I most likely will not be using them again to book a reservation.

They would tell me to take the printed tickets to the gates and I would be admitted. The problem is the tickets do not have the correct numbers on them to allow me to link to my Disney account and order my fast-passes (60 days in advance). I use Hotwire about 6 times a year for discount hotels and most experiences are positive - much better customer service than their main competitor Priceline (Hotwire allows you to pick the amenities & bed size - nothing worse than getting stuck in a tiny room w/ a king bed that doesn't fit family needs). I see a lot of complaints from people who couldn't get their money back but this site is honest in telling you that you get big discounts but it's non-refundable so you get what you pay for! If you want to stay in a 4-star hotel for a 2-star price, then you take the risk in booking non-refundable -- this is a risk but for us we have been happy 90% of the time with the hotels that we get. In one case we got a 3-star that was in disrepair (OK but not 3-star quality) & they gave us a $50 coupon to save off our next booking. The trick is to pick a 3-star or 4-star in a nice area & to know the inventory in that area before the blind booking.

Pretty much same-same of everything else you're reading here. However, my tale of woe includes a series of countless lies (over a 3 month time period)... all promising a refund within 7 to 10 business days, but never delivering. Just about each time, too, it was necessary that I send in one more piece of information that they needed. Alas, today came yet another promise, but now they needed my bank info since for some screwed up reason they could not credit my Amex (like they'd been promising all along). However this time, they assured me everything would finally be reconciled... only this was going to take 25 days now because of the 'added complication' of wiring it to my bank. Yeah, right.
At any rate, the kicker to the whole situation was that when I did send in this new info, my email was returned saying recipient unavailable, or something to that effect. In other words, they'd blocked my email. I know that, because I have a 2nd email account that I emailed them, and it went thru just fine. Nevertheless, I ain't waiting for all that to happen, because I've finally figured out that it won't. So I finally just called Amex and started a charge dispute. The bad reviews aren't because the service isn't up to scratch but because it's in a dangerous area (not in the zone Hotwire advertises it in), popular with drug dealers and other sketchy people. HOTWIRE should be put out of business. I have never seen anything so fraudulent in my life. I did a blind booking today for a Four Star Condo in the Bonnet Creek Area. Hotwire assigned me to a two bedroom condo at Lighthouse Key Resort and Spa with FIVE beds. No five beds in a two bedroom condo exist. Then I call Hotwire and realized that their map extends a little past the interstate. The representative tried to be helpful by calling to verify that we would have five beds. I start to research the resort and both on Hotwire and the resort website, the prices for the three and four bedroom condos are significantly lower and close to what I paid for the two bedroom. I really start fuming when I realize that the blind booking is a way to sneak in hundreds of dollars that you cannot get back. Hotwire supervisor does say that Hotwire has a LOW PRICE GUARANTEE and will honor the price the 2 bedroom if I can find the price.
Unfortunately, I have booked the last one at the resort. They won't accept alternate dates. There is a coupon for booking thirty days in advance taking an additional 20 percent off the price of a room, which would make the room a solid hundred dollars lower than what Hotwire charged me. I was asked to screenshot everything I have and send it in. I get a call from an angry corporate person who stated that Hotwire "does not have the lowest prices" and they "don't have to honor the low price guarantee." She stated that the upcharge is not fraudulent and Hotwire can charge "whatever they want because the price of the rooms change all the time."
She refused to rebook, modify or cancel my reservation. She did offer to refund any upgrade fees I incur if the resort agrees to move me to a larger room. No refund on the extra hundred dollars a night that Hotwire has skirted away with. In other words, Hotwire had a listing for the same room at a much lower rate, and significantly upcharged me just because I took a chance at a blind booking.

They knew of this exorbitant fee and should have revealed it. I see that Hotwire is not accredited on your site. Isn't that warning enough not to use them? I never will again.

I booked a room with Hotwire that was supposedly a $354/night hotel comparable to Embassy, Hyatt, Hilton or Sheraton. What I got was the Freehand Hotel that was in a very poor section of town and rents out bunk beds at $49.00/night. So Hotwire charged me $123.00 for the night at a hotel where backpackers can pay $49.00 a night. When I complained they explained that the rates they post are made up rates based on the area and the hotels they say you will get are not what you will actually get. I will never use Hotwire again.

I went to the hotel as planned after booking through Hotwire website. The website told me that I will need to pay CAD128.21 (Due at hotel) once at the hotel. It was fine with me as their total price was competitive. Arriving at the hotel, the agent there asked me to pay USD 130.xx. I paid as the agent told me that this is the amount that is due. I wrote to Hotwire to let them know about this misleading amount. The response from Hotwire is below.
"Thank you for contacting Hotwire Customer Care regarding your reservation with the Aqua Palms Waikiki in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, scheduled check in on January 1, 2018, Hotwire itinerary **. I understand you are disappointed with the additional charges that you received during your stay. I would be willing to provide you the information regarding your concern.
Each hotel may also have its own charges - for example, such as parking, resort fees, convention fees, and energy charges. You will be required to pay any such fees directly to the hotel (usually at check-out time). We recommend that you contact your hotel directly to discuss about additional charges. Please note that Hotwire makes effort to mention such fees before you confirm your reservation on the 'Know Before You Go' section of your booking. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to reply to this email or contact us directly at 1-866-HOTWIRE (468-9473). Thank you for choosing Hotwire."
I called them at the number they gave and nobody answered the phone. I just got an answering machine. There is no one to help and take ownership of what happened. The conclusion, I will leave it to you. I am not happy with this practice from Hotwire and will not book anything on Hotwire again, as you never know of the surprises that you may encounter once at your destination. On top of that, Hotwire charges your credit card when you book and there is no cancellation. Thanks for reading and keeping everybody informed!!

I rented a car with Hotwire and it was infested with ants. It was a busy weekend in Atlanta and when I called to let them know they said they would call back within 24 hrs and never did. I could not find another rental car so we sprayed the car and upon returning it I told them about the ants. I wanted some type of compensation. After talking with several different people they said they would give me $50 Hotwire credit. Since there are not a lot of locations I told them I would like the credit back to my credit card. The manager stated they needed to email higher above and it may take a week, but he would call me. After hearing nothing I called several times and spoke with several different people all assuring they would look into it and give me a callback. A call never came. I have never written a review either positive or negative, but decided to chalk it up to a learning experience and never use their service again.

Be aware of the scam Hotwire has on their website. They advertise a "VERY" low rate, but charge amazingly high rates for taxes and fees. I rented an SUV for $9.22 per day for 7 days. A couple of days later they advertise the same SUV for $11 a day yet the taxes are a lot lower and the total amount is about $60 less than my quote. I cannot do anything about it since I agreed to the terms. Terrible company!

On December 20, 2017, I rented a car using Hotwire's Hot Rate. As of December 22, 2017, the Hotwire website plainly states the following (screenshot attached): "If you book a Hotwire Hot Rate, you are guaranteed a car rental from one of these leading agencies: Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar (International only), Hertz, National, or Thrifty. For regular-rate rentals, Hotwire offers cars from a broader range of car rental agencies. For regular-rate rentals, you will see the agency name prior to completing your reservation."
I did not receive a car rental from one of the "guaranteed" leading agencies listed on the Hotwire website. Instead, Hotwire booked me with a company called Advantage, a company that has universally terrible reviews online and does not even offer basic amenities like a shuttle. To get this discrepancy resolved, I called Hotwire customer service three separate times and spoke with five people, including two supervisors. It was obviously an outsourced call center. The reps and supervisors all essentially read from the same script, telling me Hot Rate bookings are final. They would not change my booking to one of the "guaranteed" leading agencies on their site, nor would they cancel my reservation. I also emailed Hotwire and contacted them on social media, but to no avail.
I ended up booking another reservation directly through Alamo. Ironically, it was cheaper than Hotwire/Advantage. I will also dispute the Hotwire charges on my credit card as the company refuses to help in any way.
If a company "guarantees" something, they need to honor it. Hotwire was adamant about enforcing the finality of the Hot Rate booking while completely ignoring the so-called guarantee listed on their own website. If I had know there was a chance, I wouldn't get one of the national, leading agencies "guaranteed" on Hotwire's website, I would not have chosen the Hot Rate option. 0/10. Will never use Hotwire again.

However, I got an email from the airline that said my return flight was canceled. Hotwire said they could do nothing and they pocketed my $350. I had to buy a new flight from the airline as a result. I called the toll free customer service line to speak to an agent. The customer service agent was obviously not from the US and was speaking in such an accent I barely could understand. I then requested to talk to her supervisor. The supervisor named Kenny had the same accent and was completely rude saying it was my fault for booking such and that Hotwire's app didn't make any mistakes. At first he explained that since it was a "Hot Rate", there weren't any refunds. However he would refund the credit card used and called said reservation. However he wouldn't be able to book the same room at the same hotel for the same rate.
In fact he booked the same room at the same hotel for more than double the rate that I initially booked the room for! What happened to customer service? Has that went out the window? I know for a fact that all third party apps like Hotwire, Expedia, TripAdvisor, etc have their own credit cards on file for every hotel around the world. They book their rooms using said credit card at a low bid rate, then turn around and charge their clients more than what they pay for to create a profit margin. This is how these companies make their millions. Why is it that I have to pay for a mistake that was clearly Hotwire's fault, and then turn around, pay double for their mistake?? And on top of all this mayhem, be subjected to rude Filipinos who obviously are outsourced by Hotwire??
Believe you me that I will NOT be saying great things about Hotwire! Be assured I will NOT be referring this company to any friends nor family and I will let everyone know whether Blog site, forums, Chatrooms, etc. how terrible Hotwire's customer service is! Isn't this considered illegal? Isn't this "bait and switch"? Maybe I should contact the proper authorities upon this matter.

I called Hotwire and I could tell the rep did not understand me and kept saying she would call the hotel to confirm my reservation... I kept telling her nobody was there. I was on hold for over 20 minutes, she never came back. I called again. The new rep again said she would call the hotel to confirm my reservations... they were really reading from a script and did not understand what I was saying. She eventually did come back and told me nobody answered at the hotel. By this time I was beyond frustrated.
It is now late Friday night and I missed the engagement that I traveled there for. She said she would find me a new room... but she came back and simply said, "Sorry, nothing is available in the city." So I was basically stranded... again she did not understand or care and cheerfully said, "Sorry". I drove around from hotel to hotel with `no room at the inn'. There was a big sporting event in town that caused the rooms to be booked. I eventually found a room at one hotel for one night then found another room at another hotel. This was maddening... and Hotwire could only say `Sorry' which doesn't cut it when you drive through dark desolate land, miss your event and drive all around an unfamiliar city looking for a place to stay.
Under Hotwire I had a fee of $181 for the 2 nights. I ended up paying $391 between the 2 hotels. When I called Hotwire again they could care less of all the inconvenience, stress or double the fee I had to pay. I even responded to their survey which they had the gall to send me but they did not respond to that either... what a surprise. At one point they offered to give me a $25 gift card to use Hotwire... Really??? $25 is nothing when it comes to booking an airline or Hotel... then she increased it to $30. The whole offer is ridiculous. Do they think I would ever use Hotwire again??? I think in all fairness they should have refunded the difference between what they promised me for a 2 might stay versus what I ended up paying. I made reservations through your website for four hotel rooms in Florida for March 10, 2018 -- on the website it asked for our card and it says the card is used only to hold the hotel rooms - we will not be charged until we check in. The next day charges for the all 4 rooms showed up and was taken out of our credit card -- thus causing us to scramble and take money out of our savings account to cover the costs so as not get an overdraft. Also, the website said the hotel provides free shuttle service from the airport. When I called the hotel directly I was told they always charge the first night to the credit card thus the 4 room charge. I was also told that their shuttle service ends at 4:00 each day -- which would not help us... and now the real problems begin...
I contacted Hotwire -- after finally getting a number to work through Expedia. When I tried to put in my phone number on the account -- it said They could not find my reservation so I tried my itinerary number - and same result. When I finally got through to a human I told them why we were unhappy with what went on and wanted to cancel the room. They (Hotwire) told me the reservation was cancelled and I would receive a refund in 5 - 7 days and I did not need to contact the hotel directly.
When I did not hear back from the hotel - I called them directly and was told the reservation was not cancelled and I would have to call Hotwire. So I called back Hotwire and told them they needed to talk to a manager and get the reservation properly cancelled. I waited on hold for 15 minutes or so to be told they could not get a hold of the manager and would call me back when it had been resolved -- two hours later Hotwire called back and said the problem was resolved -- and again no need to contact the hotel directly. I was pleased that it was finally over and asked to speak to a supervisor to tell them how pleased I was that follow through had actually taken place.
After waiting a few more days, I decided to double check with the hotel and was told the hotel reservation was not properly cancelled through the website -- so written in some notes and so they could not issue a refund from a third party booking without prior authorization. Totally frustrated now. I called back Hotwire and finally got a human again -- again the recorded version had no reservation under my name or itinerary. So I explained the problem to the Hotwire employee and was placed on hold for almost 20 minutes -- He finally came back to inform me that he needed to talk to the hotel manager -- who was in a meeting for two hours and not available - he told me he would call me back after he talked to the manager.
I decided with all the problems with Hotwire I had to immediately contact the hotel and asked for the manager. SURPRISE -- She was available. I asked her if she had talked with Hotwire – nope -- was she unavailable in the past hour --- nope she was in her office all day!!! She did not have any meetings that day HMMMMMMMMMM. She was very kind and used the notes that said cancel but said it never came through on the system like Hotwire was suppose to do. At this point I was furious, I called back to Hotwire and asked for a supervisor or a manager. 15 minutes later one came on the line and I explained everything and EVERYTHING was the fault of the hotel -- the rooms were cancelled correctly, the manager was probably there but the desk didn't knew that.
The hotel should not have charged us but that is not their fault -- even though it says no charges on the room until check in and the only way to solve this was a three way conversation with Hotwire - the Hotel and me. Guess what -- this is not possible through Hotwire – lol. I would have to call the hotel and then somehow get back with Hotwire to make the connection. I have been deceive and treated dishonestly though this entire process. I will never book anything through Expedia or Hotwire again and will send my complaint to the Better Business Bureau and anyone else I can so that other people do not have experience the bull --- that I endured the past few weeks. The main problem is that their customer support, based in the Phillippines (I think) has very little authority to do anything, so they keep you on hold for frequent extended periods where a simple 5 minute call ends up taking over 90 minutes. Furthermore, they (3 occasions) are instructed to ask you to call back at another time as the 'hotel is closed'. I had the hotel on the other line... they were very open. Booked a Hotwire Hot Rate for Orlando 3-star compared to Doubletree and Embassy Suites they say only to reveal Maingate Lakeside Resort. I follow the link on my confirmation email from Hotwire to TripAdvisor to read the reviews and NONE are good. Reviewers spoke of shirtless thugs in the parking lot and prostitutes all around. Some even went back into the dangers of Hurricane Irma because it was so awful and unsafe. I looked up pics and googled it on recommendation of the Hotwire rep I spoke with on the phone when I called with concerns as I am a single woman traveling with my minor son to Orlando for the first time. Google reviews referred to it as "Hotel from hell" and "Motel" and the pics are horrendous. This is in no way even remotely compared to a Doubletree or Embassy Suites as Hotwire represents a 3-star property to be.
Hotwire has refused to cancel the reservation based on the fact that this accommodation is not safe and completely misrepresented. They have tried to force me to stay somewhere clearly unsafe with my child and rudely informed me that it would not be canceled. They did offer to rebook me into a "hotel" from a resort (losing amenities that were advertised) for quadruple the cost of my original booking and assumes no responsibility or liability for the misrepresentation not to mention the misleading and false information provided of the resort originally booked. I was under the impression that Hotwire guarantees and clean SAFE accommodation and I am certain this property is not clean or safe.
The Hotwire rep proudly boasted their "partnership" with this resort and have no regards for the fact that they are leading people to believe this is equivalent to a Doubletree or Embassy suits. I googled pics of both Maingate Lakeside Resort and Doubletree and I assure you they are not even comparable in the least bit. After calling customer service at Hotwire, I was told to send the credit card bill showing where I was charged by both, which I promptly did. I was told I would have a refund in 7-10 days. My original email was followed up by Hotwire requesting further information. When I supplied that (twice) there was no further response. I then called 27 days after my first phone contact because Hotwire would no longer respond via email. This customer service rep said they did not receive any information from me, but then contradicted himself by reading what I wrote in my original email. He kept putting me on hold to talk to his supervisor, whom I am pretty sure did not exist.
When he said I needed to send the documentation for the 4th time, I asked to actually speak to his supervisor and I was placed on hold again. When he came back on the line, his supervisor was unavailable. He then looked at my account, saw where everything was there, called the hotel and issued me a refund, all in less than 5 minutes. After being on hold and being persistent for 45 minutes, he finally opened my file. I came away from that phone call thinking that their goal was to be so obstinate and difficult that I would just give up trying to get my money back. What else could explain the lack of progress after numerous emails and phone calls. I have never been so frustrated and disappointed with any customer service as I am with Hotwire. I would like to tell everyone I can to never, ever use Hotwire.

I booked a Hot Rate hotel based on a satisfaction rating of 85% and "Very Good". I've used Hotwire a lot, some booking a Hot Rate and sometimes a known hotel. After booking and getting the hotel name, I looked at the hotel reviews under the hotel listings. There it was given a 71% satisfaction rating. For the rate I was charged I wouldn't have booked it if I knew it was a 71% rating. Most reviews were horrible. When I contacted Hotwire, I told them they were misrepresenting the quality of the hotel. They responded that the two different types of booking have different rating systems. Nowhere does it say that. The rating system is worthless if it's not consistent. Hotwire refused to let me change my reservation... I know their rules, but this appears to me as fraudulent information and they should allow changes. Hotwire has lost a good customer who has used their services many times.

I recently booked a vacay to Victoria, BC through Hotwire.com. Apparently I was billed a package fee on my credit card which was supposed to include hotel, airfare and car rental. I was also billed by the airline on top of the package fee. There are three of us going so I am out almost $900 with this error. I have contacted Hotwire 3 times and they insist they only charged me the package fee. In addition, they told me to speak with my bank and the airline which I have, but to no avail. I am thoroughly disgusted by this company and will be seeking legal counsel.

STRANDED & WITHOUT A HOTEL. I was not able to redeem the 306.00 that I spent with them and then was forced to pay cash with another hotel therefore leaving me in the hole a grand total of 600.00 bucks. They are crooks!! I used to use Hotwire for booking of hotels because I thought I was getting a deal and liked the fun of maybe getting a better one than I would of using another site. Last night 8/21/17, I learned the exact opposite. I spent $540 on a two night booking and I picked an option that would hopefully get us a nicer room since 4 grown men will be staying there. After the booking, I had one member of our group call me literally minutes later telling me his grandma had passed and we had to cancel the trip. Hotwire disgusted me with their requests to cancel by asking for his grandmas death certificate and then they would review it! It was all business and no care for customers as I've used them several times.
Not only was this the problem but after calling the hotel I was told we have the smallest room available and if I spent the same amount of money through the actual hotel, we would of had a suite that was 300 square feet bigger than the 210 square foot room Hotwire has us in. I will never use Hotwire again as it's a complete ripoff and they don't even get you good rooms. Not to mention asking for a family member’s death certificate is the most appalling business approach I have ever seen. Never posted a business review in my life until this event. Was trying to cancel literally within 10 minutes of the booking. Hotwire is the last place in the world to book anything, I will never use them again.

I was booking a Hotwire Hot rate hotel with a friend of mine so we could stay in the same place with our grandsons to go to the NY State Fair. We both went online together side by side and chose the same hotel and went through the checkout process. My friend's booking went through but mine said the hotel was now sold out. Sad I thought I'd try again to see if a room of a different bed configuration or spare room would come up. This time at checkout it said the system was checking new rates. It kicked me out. So I went back and tried again. This time at checkout I was successful however to my horror the booking came up for a hotel in a different city! And it said no refund. I emailed them upset however after looking at an online forum, I found the contact number for Hotwire and was able to call.
The operator was really nice and arranged a refund for room. I was quite surprised how smoothly everything went and was very relieved. They instantly sent an email stating I was getting a refund although I have to wait up to seven days for it. Basically I'm relieved and happy with the results as I was able to book finally in the same hotel as my friend, although at a higher rate, and I got all my money back and the operator was really pleasant and helpful. I will feel very anxious about ever using Hotwire again though as this was very scary that I was going to be out several hundred dollars. I don't know that I would ever book a big trip using Hotwire ever again after this experience.

I book travel for my staff and have used Hotwire consistently throughout the last 4 years. I gave them a lot of business. About a month ago after booking travel through Hotwire my staff arrived at the car rental location. Hotwire had cancelled the car with no reason and refused to tell me why. We had a difficult time finding another rental. After 3 hours we found a car and my staff drove 6 hours to the hotel... All was fine and after two days of staying at a hotel booked through Hotwire they were locked out of their hotel room after a 12 hour work day. The hotel said it was a fraud issue. I called Hotwire who gave me a # in CA to call.
The Hotwire agent said it was a case of Fraud???? They had canceled all of my travel I had booked and never gave me notice or a reason. They suggested I call the fraud department. I called the "fraud" division of Hotwire about 15 times as I was furious anyone would claim this. Two months later and I still call once a week and leave a message. Never heard from them. I have also tried to contact Hotwire and they continue to refer me to a fraud department that does not exist. Good luck if you choose to use Hotwire.

Hotwire is the absolute worst travel agency I have ever used. I booked a trip in February for the month of June for my grandmother's birthday. But then realized I needed to change my dates from June to August. My problem was I couldn't understand a word anyone was saying over the phone and they were charging me $700 dollars for a change of dates for the hotel and flight. I paid it and got reimbursed for $400 dollars because I had insurance on everything, but it took me calling them for 4 days to resolve the whole situation and each agent told me something different. When it came time for my trip which was today, my grandmother and I went to the airport and go to print our tickets on the kiosk and it says I owe $561.44 when originally I paid $1,074.66 for the hotel and the flight roundtrip for 4 nights. I went to customer service at the airport and they say my tickets are frozen and I had to call the agency. This was at 6:30 am my flight was at 8:25 am.
The entire time I am on the phone with the agency they continuously placed me on hold and we kept getting disconnected. I then missed my flight after calling back 4 times to figure out what was going on. I made a total of 11 phone calls to Hotwire and they told me I never paid for the flight when I did, so they wanted me to pay $218 dollars instead of $561.44 but my thing is why should I have to pay any more money when I already paid $1,074.66 and paid an additional $700 dollars. I had to end up canceling the whole trip because we missed our flight for a mistake the agency made. Hotwire is a complete scam all they want is to take your money.
Now my grandmother and I have wasted vacation time from work due to the mistakes Hotwire refused to fix. I will never use them ever again. By the way nothing got resolved and we spent a total of 8 hours on the phone with the agency and now I am out of the hard earned money I made to book this trip. By far the worst agency ever. They will sure be hearing from my lawyer shortly. DO NOT USE HOTWIRE. I REPEAT DO NOT USE HOTWIRE. IT'S A HUGE SCAM.

Someone stole my credit card number (probably a fast food restaurant employee when I bought a couple of hamburgers at drive through) and then used it to charge about $1800 of fraudulent charges, one of which was for $317.28 at Hotwire.com. Hotwire.com has its customer service off-shore in the Philippines, like DoorDash.com, Blue Shield of California, and others who don't want to pay Americans to handle their customer service needs.
Of course, since I did not make the reservation, and because I don't have a Hotwire.com account, they claim the reservation cannot be found. Well, that's a crock of BS. Priceline.com and Hotels.com can look up any itinerary with the credit card number used to pay for it. I doubt that Hotwire.com uses a different system that can only track to an itinerary. I was trying to obtain information about the person who made the charge, since that person obviously has a Hotwire.com account, and an email address that law enforcement can follow up on.
Because the other fraudulent charges were all made relatively local to my home address, I was hoping to be able to provide my Police Dept with information a detective could follow up on without having to do much work on his own. The Filipinos in Manila don't care much about providing service or taking the time to put forth a little bit of effort to help someone. So if you want to continue doing business with Hotwire.com, caveat emptor.

Travel business, hotel reservation... things can go wrong. Initially Hotwire stood up and refunded a very poor hotel condition, the Clarion in Ronkonkoma NY in eastern L.I. Then we went through "rebooking" the next hotel. First shot, Residence Inn but there weren't two beds as the reservation called for. Fast on his feet the hotel manager finds a sister Marriott Hotel, Fairfield Inn not that far away and Hotwire agrees to pay difference even if it isn't in the Hotwire network. So far very good service.
38 days later, numerous attempts to deliver receipts requested to central email and fax addresses. They are never acknowledged. Phone people out of direct touch with Resolution people (designed this way). Finally offered Hotwire "dollars" which are soft coupon like dollars on forward purchases, not what was agreed to at the time. Basically "take it or leave it". Lots of time and energy wasted to get this far. Be warned, service people say one thing but may not be able to complete stated claims and agreements. I blame the management bad faith for this result and system support offered. Be warned.

Not having a reservation is better than thinking you have one. Our 18 year old daughter booked a room in Ocean City, MD two days prior to the over-night trip. She got a confirmation email from Hotwire with a note, "no need to call to confirm reservation." She and her friends drove to Ocean City, MD, a 3 hour drive, and when she went to check in to the hotel were told the reservation had been cancelled. When we called Hotwire, we were told the hotel had cancelled because they were over-booked and they (Hotwire? hotel? not sure) had sent an email letting my daughter know. She did not receive an email (and if she had, as with most 18 year-olds, she doesn't check email regularly and had every reason to assume she was confirmed, no reason to check per the confirmation email).
She and we had to scramble, several hotels that we tried were full as it's peak season. Obviously it was important to us that she have a reserved room that we had vetted, but by then our choice were limited. We ended up with a more expensive hotel, not at the location we wanted, foregoing options we would have had when we originally booked if we had known we were making an "unconfirmed reservation" a la Seinfeld.

Do NOT purchase a "Hot Rate" hotel from Hotwire. These are the hotels that you don't know what you are getting. They give you a description and some examples of what the hotel could be. If you have ever booked with Priceline, it's similar to their "Express Deals." I was making a Hot Rate purchase through Hotwire because the price of their deal was 20 dollars cheaper than Priceline. Usually, I go with Priceline, but in this case I thought it was best to save the money and get the same type of hotel.
I was getting a 3 star boutique hotel in the theatre district of midtown west area of New York City. Now, keep in mind that this description says "boutique." I knew it was going to be a guaranteed chain hotel, but some chain hotels have their own boutique hotels. According to Hotwire's definition, a boutique hotel is a "property that offers a distinctive, unique or eclectic atmosphere. Many boutique hotels are smaller, hip properties in an urban setting, or renovated hotels with historical flair." And the hotel that we got... Holiday Inn Express! Ok, not just a Holiday Inn, but an Express. There was nothing unique, hip, small, or distinctive about it. It didn't even have historical flair. I was NOT happy and was not about to "deal" with the "no cancellations" policy with Hotwire.
I called Hotwire right away and explained the situation and told customer service that their description was misleading. I thought I was booking a boutique hotel only to find that this was far from boutique. Just call it a 3 star hotel. Don't give it the name boutique if it really isn't. She apologized and offered to make a refund if I made a purchase for a new hotel on the phone. I was leery about this, but eventually did it because I certainly didn't want the hotel I was given. She offered me a different 3 star boutique hotel in the same area for about 50.00 extra all together. I said that was fine and kept asking to make sure, "Are you sure this is a boutique hotel this time?" She kept reassuring me and saying, "Yes this is. You should be happy with this one." Of course she can't reveal the name because it's a "hot rate" hotel.
She comes back on the phone after making the cancellation of the first one and now making the second reservation. Get this... She says, "I'm sorry, but the hotel I just booked was actually the same one you booked in the first reservation." I said, "Are you serious?" I was really thrown out of my seat because not only did she guarantee that I was getting a boutique hotel, she said I was going to be really happy. Plus, she charged me 50.00 extra for this "better" hotel. There was no way I was paying 50.00 extra for this ordinary hotel that was clearly not a boutique hotel in the first place. She said there was nothing she could do after making the second reservation. Then, she offered $30 in Hotwire bucks where I could use it on my next purchase. I didn't want their bucks. I wanted my bucks back. What is 30.00 going to do about my vacation experience? Nothing.
Then, she offered the 50.00 difference back. I said, "No. I want a complete refund. This is the reason why I called. This hotel is not a boutique hotel." After an hour on the phone, we were back to square one. I asked to speak to her boss or manager above her. There was silence for about 20 seconds. She didn't want to do this. At that moment, she offered to call the hotel and see what she could do. Now, we are talking about $550 dollars on the line. Not just a one night stay somewhere in a small town. She comes back on and says... "The hotel confirmed that they are NOT a boutique hotel." She apologized for all of the inconvenience and said she was going to refund all of my money back to my credit card. She was very apologetic about it, which I give her credit for. However, I will NOT be making ANY purchases through Hotwire ever again! BUYER BEWARE...

But I didn't get a room so I called Hotwire to see what happened and they tell me that I didn't get a room. But the banks took the money and would not give it back until 2 to 3 business days. I booked on Hotwire and booked the insurance, which I never do. I booked because I thought I might have to cancel so I thought I would be protected. Turns out that I did need to cancel due to a medical emergency in the family. Hotwire requires a medical certificate signed by a doctor proving the emergency AND they ask for details of the emergency! Complete strangers asking for deeply personal information for purely financial reasons. While that may be just information for them so they can determine whether or not my emergency is worth giving me a refund, this information is actually none of their business.
Additionally, if one is in a position where they cannot obtain such information, which I am, the only other possibility is to book ANOTHER reservation with them where they essentially transfer the money to that reservation. Why would I want to continue to work with a company that clearly has no regard for me? Also, now I have to hurry to make travel plans or forfeit the money. When I book the next reservation, instead of taking that money out of the existing reservation, they charge you AGAIN while they "process" the request. I am done. I am already stressed enough by this family issue and Hotwire made something that should have been simple, much harder than it needed to be. What was the point of ordering and paying for the insurance then? I will never use them again.

I booked a hotel in London through Hotwire on the recommendation of a friend for the first time about ten days ago for my trip to London. Everything went smoothly on booking and I got the confirmation email from hotwire that the booking has been confirmed with the hotel. I actually booked two rooms and when I noticed that I had to be present for the check in for both rooms, I contacted the hotel and asked them to put down my colleague's name on the booking as well so that he can check in by himself as he would arrive 5 hours before me. The hotel had no problem accommodating my request so everything was great up to this point.
I arrived at London around 8:30 pm and got to the hotel around 10:30 pm. When I showed my confirmation number to the front desk, I was told that my reservation had been canceled by hotwire. I couldn't believe what I heard. I double checked my email and there was no record of hotwire contacting me regarding any issue with my booking. I called hotwire in the hotel lobby and was told by the hotwire operator that my booking had been canceled and there was nothing he could do for me. The only thing he could do was to give me a phone number and I could leave a message at the number and would be contacted by hotwire. I called the number and left a message for them to call me back. At this point, I knew I was on my own so had to work with the hotel to figure something out. The hotel was nice enough to rearrange the room assignments to free up two rooms for me but I had to pay a rate which is 60% higher than what hotwire's booking was.
Now I am back from London and it's been a week from when I left a message with hotwire and I haven't heard anything back from hotwire. They actually kept sending me "great" deals email. I suspect I was caught in some sort of computer operated fraud prevention mechanism. I am a computer engineer and I can totally understand that there could be false positives with such mechanism.
I am a frequent traveller with perfect credit record and I don't know how I could be picked as a potential fraud. But the bottom line is, the follow-through on such incident for customers like me is a strong indicator that this company doesn't care about their customers. I usually don't leave negative feedbacks for service providers but this incident made me feel that I should let people know how hotwire operates so that people know the truth about the company.

When I called their "customer service" line, they said that was just a "suggestion" on what the hotel could be.
I let them know I use their system all the time and when it shows a specific hotel and says to book now, that is the hotel I get. This time that did not happen. And that if that was not going to be the hotel then they should not falsely advertise that hotel. I explained to the rep why I needed to be in a specific location, as we would not have a car and needed to be able to walk to our activities. The rep did not care and just kept insisting that was a "suggestion" of a hotel. I just ran the search again and guess what hotel they are saying I will get? The one I needed! Unbelievable! Hotwire has a serious bug in their reservations system that they as well as consumers are unaware of and puts all Hotwire users at risk of financial loss. While the risk is small, it does exist. I would not recommend using Hotwire for this reason. Here is the problem: At the point during Hotwire's reservation process where the consumer is to confirm his purchase, if Hotwire's system returns an error and failure message, it may still confirm the reservation internally even if it fails, and never sends any confirmation email to the user. Hotwire apparently has no verification process to confirm to itself that it did indeed send a successful email confirmation to its customers, as well as logging system errors and failed reservation attempts.
On June 2 of this year I attempted to make an online hotel reservation on Hotwire while traveling in Europe. At first, Hotwire's system was down, as in not accessible. A short time later at a second attempt, Hotwire was back online, but running slow. I attempted to make a reservation, but at the point of confirmation, I instead received an error message that the confirmation failed, and to try again. I made a second attempt, but received the same error message. I then checked my email for any kind of confirmations from Hotwire, but received NONE. So then I went to Travelocity, where I made a successful reservation. As it turns out, little did I know, that the Travelocity reservation was for the same hotel that Hotwire was going to use for it's mystery hot deal hotel I had attempted to make earlier with them.
So when I check in at the hotel, I give them my name, and the receptionist responds, "Yes, we have your reservation right here, and checks us in. Unknown to me however is that while Hotwire' system failed to send me any email reservation confirmation with any hotel name on it to ME, their system DID manage to send a reservation order to the hotel, and the hotel checked us in under the Hotwire reservation rather than the Travelocity reservation. Additionally upon checking later, I find not one but two charges to my credit card from Hotwire for the reservations I never received, and of course a third charge from Travelocity for that reservation that the hotel never used. The result is that due to the Hotwire errors, I paid not twice for the same reservation but rather THREE TIMES.
Disputed charges through American Express were denied, as Hotwire responded that they found no errors and my hotel stay was logged in under the Hotwire reservation. Communications with Travelocity are ongoing. I have no doubt that deep digging into Hotwire's system error logs for the time of my reservation errors should reveal the problem, this kind of problem investigation is beyond Hotwire's customer support skill level. So Hotwire users be warned.

Hotwire recorded the date of my reservation incorrectly, then refused to refund my fee. I have subsequently learned that Hotwire, Expedia, Hotels.com and BookingBuddy are all the same company. Which has, by the way, zero regard for honest and ethical business practices. I will not be rolling the dice with these companies again, but instead will reserve through a hotel's website. I should have done this in the first place.

I went ahead and added another night and the rate was higher due to higher charges in fees on top of hotel room rate. I find this dishonest but was told when I called they could charge me anything as they are only stating add additional night. This is very sneaky way of selling additional nights. Spoke to Mary ** and she was not able to help. Her opinion was that they were only offering additional night not same rate. Don't use Hotwire. I will never use their service again. A total bait and switch scam. Booked a trip to Cabo San Lucas for my son and two of his friends for a graduation gift. The trip was booked back in early May, it's now the end of June. When we booked the trip, we searched only all inclusive hotels. We wanted the boys to be able to stay on site as much as possible. We found a hotel at a very reasonable rate as well as flights that worked. We proceeded to the page to "book" the trip, still with the hotel as all inclusive. We booked and paid, without issue. Received a confirmation email of our booking that included only our itinerary. There were no specifics regarding "what" we booked but we weren't too concerned as we knew what we booked and where.
Cut to today when the boys went to check in. Miraculously, the hotel was no longer all inclusive, there was an additional charge for that at the tune of $92 per guest per day. We were looking at $1200 MORE on top of our already paid $2000 trip. Called Hotwire customer service and all I can say is that is the strongest contradiction of terms I've ever heard. They were absolutely unwilling to help, claimed there was no way that we booked what we booked, that it wasn't all inclusive due to the type of room we booked (which I pointed out, we didn't pick, we took what was offered as part of the deal), even had the nerve to ask me if I had a screenshot of what we booked. HELLO - it was booked 6 weeks ago. When I pointed out that the confirmation they sent didn't even provide helpful details, they responded by implying that wasn't their fault. Absolutely unreal.

Hotwire continues to go down hill in my book. I purchased a Groupon for $30 towards a Hotwire hot rate hotel at $200 a night. I entered my Groupon code and it deducted $30 from the price but when I tried to pay, it told me I just missed the deal as they have sold out of those special priced rooms. The next day I see the same hotel at $200. I try to reserve it with credit card and Groupon but when I hit enter, it says that I missed the deal as they have sold out of the room. I have a feeling it would work if I didn't put the discount code in. They no longer seem legitimate to me and that's really too bad.

I booked two nights and paid in advance not noticing that the confirmed rate increased to $393 until about 1 hour later when I decided to add one more day to the stay. All the hotel sites showed the room at $353 - Expedia, Hotel.com and Hotwire. I booked the single night on Expedia, same room, for $353. There were no add-ons for tax, service or fees. I called Hotwire to request an adjustment and after 45 minutes, the woman could not understand, or understood and was not going to do an adjustment, so I hung up. I called a second time and the same thing happened.
Hotwire advertises they will price match, but they do not. Isn't that fraud? I wrote to their customer service department. They responded that I should call to discuss. The number they gave me was their booking number! That person said there were no additional fees added and that I just booked two different rates. The front desk gave me the key to room #119 for 2 nights... and, after driving to room, it was clear that I had made a big error with the Hotwire booking. To start with, there were no cars in parking lot. However, the bullet hole in the front window made me into a serious "don't wanter". After approximately 4 hours, I returned room keys. I called Hotwire because I never received a confirmation of a reservation. They insisted they had no reservation for me on file because my bank declined the charge. When I replied that the charge was processed on my credit card, the person on the phone was insulting and insisted that the reservation was not made and I was not charged. I hung up after almost an hour of arguing with the representative and called a hotel to make a direct reservation. Turns out, I called the hotel that Hotwire had booked and they did indeed have the reservation, which Hotwire had outsourced to Bonotel. When I contacted Hotwire Customer Service and complained about not receiving a confirmation and being insulted by their representative, I was told again that I never made a reservation. I was getting nowhere on that call so I complained via email.
In the email, I provided my credit card statement with the processed charge as well as a thank you email from Hotwire asking how I enjoyed my hotel stay (which I received a couple days after the reservation I supposedly never had). Despite providing this information and making clear I was not given a confirmation number, every email exchange I have had with Hotwire customer service involves a statement that my reservation cannot be found or was never made. After sending the evidence several times, I received an email on June 2 from Hotwire saying they would reverse the charge because of my dissatisfaction, but that never happened. I have emailed Hotwire twice now about the status of the credit. Today they responded with the statement that they cannot find any record or evidence that there ever was a reservation. I booked a hotel in Las Vegas for March 3rd to March 5th in Las Vegas for over $200. I also bought the Allianz Insurance with it because I was Pregnant and unsure if I would be healthy enough for traveling. I had been experiencing an unpredictable on and off sickness with morning sickness/nausea in my 1st trimester and wasn't sure how I would be feeling when the day of the trip arrived. My doctor said that I should be feeling better by March since I was heading into my 2nd trimester and that I should be able to take a short trip if I wanted to for my mom's birthday. I booked the trip with Hotwire because I had been feeling better for a few days.
Then right before the trip I started getting severe nausea. It was virtually impossible for me to travel under the circumstances. I filed a claim with Allianz Global Assistance on Feb 28th and submitted my supporting documentation which was doctors notes from my doctor stating that I had to stay home and rest since I was getting the sickness again. This was all submitted before the trip and a day before my scheduled Hotwire reservation I received a call from Hotwire stating that my claim was looked at and approved and that I would be receiving a refund but it could take 7-10 days. I waited the 10 days but never received a refund.
Then later on in the Month of March I received a notice saying that my claim was not approved (after I was already told that It would be approved). I had to call again and again because I kept getting hung up on. I spent hours talking to the representative and I kept asking to speak with a manager. They blamed me and said that I should have not booked the trip if I was already sick. They acted like I was stupid for making the booking in the first place and that it was all my fault. They never acknowledged the doctors notes that I had provided either. Pregnancy and Morning sickness are unpredictable events and it comes and goes freely. I also expected to be feeling better because I was heading into my 2nd trimester and I initially believed that I would be fine to go on a 2-day trip.
"On their website it states a frequently asked question - If I cancel my trip do I get my money back? And the response from Allianz is In most cases yes - Trip cancellation coverage gives cash back for prepaid nonrefundable payments if you have to cancel your trip for one of the reasons covered in your policy. Some reasons include: Covered medical emergencies." Hotwire and Allianz insurance do not honor their own policy. I spent money on the insurance and I spent time filing the claim just for it to Not be approved. This is very disappointing since I've been a customer of Hotwire for almost 10 years.
By the time I finished speaking with them I felt mistreated, embarrassed, and humiliated. Their attitude and the way I was spoken to was the worst customer service that I've ever experienced. I still never received a refund - even though I paid for the insurance, submitted all the required documentation, and was told that It would be no problem to get my money back. I will never be a Hotwire customer again after this mistreatment.

On 05/24/2017 I booked a hotel reservation through Hotwire.com website. I received a confirmation regarding the hotel reservation and payment and itinerary number from Hotwire.com. The hotel reservation was for the Memorial Day Weekend, a one night stay 05/27/17-05/28/17 in Austin, Texas. On 05/27/17 I called the hotel directly and tried to get some information regarding my stay and amenities, at that time the hotel rep asked for my information to confirm my reservation. The hotel rep stated he had no record. We went through the Itinerary number and nothing was reserved.
I called Hotwire.com's customer service number and first confirmed through the phone system the reservation. Then I asked to speak to rep whose first question was whether I had confirmed through the phone system. I had already done this. She then called the hotel and placed me on hold. The hotwire rep came back on the line and stated to me that there was no reservation and she had no explanation why. She stated that the hotel told her to cancel the reservation. I was not given a choice. I asked her, 'Ok so what does this mean? Are you processing a refund? Are you booking my room? What does this mean?" She stated that cancelling the reservation would then create the refund and I can rebook. I said well the prices went up and she said nothing. I was so angry I hung up.
I then called back a few minutes later and spoke to another Hotwire rep who said "You cancelled." I said, "NO, you cancelled. I didn't. You didn't give me a choice." I was told the reservation was to be cancelled and a refund would be coming in 7 days. She indicated the previous rep failed to write any notes and she would have to investigate, per Hotwire policy, where the error occurred. I said, "Really, how in anyway would this have been MY fault. I paid you for a service and received NOTHING in return. You took my money, you charged my credit card, held the money for two days and did not provide the service I had paid for and then say oops and state ok we are processing a refund."
I told the rep the only way that you can fix this is by apologizing, booking the reservation per our initial transaction, NOT charging me the difference for the premium rate as it has increased since the date of my original booking because this was not MY fault but an error committed by Hotwire. I stated this twice and on both occasions I was met with I cannot do that and we have to verify why this mistake occurred and whose fault was it before I can offer any other alternatives besides re-booking your stay today based on today's hotel rates. I stated that I would not re-book with them after they failed to do just that. I will re-book with another website that will actually book my stay. I was offered NO other alternatives.
This was the worst customer service I have ever received for such a flagrant failure of the company. Hotwire failed to take responsibility for their mistake in doing the one job they are paid to do which is make a reservation! BOOKING SITE THAT FAILS TO BOOK. They had no offer to provide me anything other than to take MORE of my money to do the same job at a higher rate that I had already paid them to do once and which they had failed to do already. The entire transaction was a failure and no viable options were provided to rectify the failures of the company. I will NEVER use their service again. I have written to them and I am now providing this verifiable review. I did not travel as planned as a direct result of Hotwire's mistake and I am extremely angry at Hotwire's failure for consideration, customer service, and failure to take responsibility for their mistake.

The reason for this review is that I was taken for over $700 by HotWire: $507.20 and $200. I recommend not believing anything they tell you over the phone. What happened is I bought flight tickets and trip insurance for my son and me on May 24, 2016, paid from my bank checking account. My son and I were not feeling well the day before the flight, so I called to cancel it, and HotWire reminded me to reschedule within one year, which I attempted to do.
On Feb. 11, 2017, I rescheduled one of the two tickets for May 23, 2017, after being told I did not have to reschedule both tickets at the same time (just needed to do so within one year of the original tickets' date); the HotWire credit paid for that first rescheduled ticket. Then on March 28, 2017, I phoned HotWire to use my remaining credit to reschedule the second flight ticket. The customer service person for HotWire said the rescheduling was complete and that I had $33.80 credit remaining (after over an hour on the phone). Then I threw away the original paperwork, believing everything was in order -- bad decision!
On April 14, 2017, I saw on my statement that the ticket had actually been charged to my credit card. When I called HotWire on that same day to have this corrected, I was told there was no record of my transaction and that they needed the confirmation number that started with a "1". I found the number on my bank statement from last year, but they said it had to have thirteen digits -- it only had eight digits on the statement. HotWire said I would have to talk to the airline because the problem was with them. The airline stated there was no HotWire credit involved, and the ticket was a completely new transaction. So HotWire withheld from me the $507.20 credit for that second ticket.
Then HotWire kept the $200 change fee that they charged my checking account, which $200 was to be refunded within 24 to 48 hours, according to the rep named "Ded". This change fee charge procedure is what was done when I rescheduled the first ticket, and the money was credited back to me, so I thought it would be legitimate -- that the money would be again returned to me. He said he would send me an email confirmation, which I never received. When I again phoned HotWire I was passed around from Anastasia, Ate, Steve, Robyn and then back to the original computer greeting a couple of times, with no help resolving this hapless robbery. My credit card company is not able to resolve this problem. HotWire cannot/will not fix this problem. I highly recommend dealing directly with your airline, car rental agency, etc.
