I prepaid 2 days car rental through Hotwire. I estimated my time of arrival as 2:00 but didn't get out of the airport until 4:10. Because it was after 4:00, I was unable to get the car. Hotwire would not cancel or refund and I am stuck with paying for two days for a car I never saw. There is a word for people who take your money without providing anything in return.

AVOID! They will take the money and then show rude and condescending attitude toward their customers. Welcome Hotel Essen is also not worth your money. Booked a hotel 'Welcome Hotel Essen' via Hotwire. Global pandemic happened in the meantime. Spent five months trying to cancel my reservation, or at least get consumer credit when travelling gets back to normal. Both the hotel and Hotwire showed no desire to actually solve the problem. Hotwire avoided any real action until it was too late, so on the day after my check-in, they were glad to inform me that I was a no-show at the hotel and that a refund isn't possible. The worst part is that the last time I contacted them was just the day before my booking, and they convinced me they are dealing with it. Coincidentally, just the day after they couldn't find any notes on my cancellation requests or evidence that their agents actually contacted the hotel in an effort to resolve the matter.

My wife and I were looking for a motel in the Redlands, California are so we could attend a funeral. We used the app and put the dates in. A listing of several very NICE motels came up including a Marriot, Holiday Inn, Comfort Suites, etc; so we booked it. To our utter disappointment, Hotwire booked us at Motel 6!!! No mention of that listed at all. No way to cancel it! We tried to contact customer service to complain, but no one EVER ANSWERS!
They did a classic “Bait and Switch” on us. The previous two times I’ve used Hotwire, we were booked in excellent motels. Not this time, they booked us in a DUMP! Sheets are disgusting, the room smells, no hairdryer, no hand towels, no place to put a suitcase or even a CLOSET, just a broken hook on the wall. The motel is next to major highway in Redlands and the windows provide no sound insulation at all, with cars racing up the street all night long. We are extremely UNSATISFIED and WILL NOT use HOTWIRE P again. This is less than a One Star with drug dealers on the premises!

I booked a car rental through Hotwire and due to the Covid (crap), our flight times were changed. I tried to modify our pick up and drop off times (less than 4 hours difference) and they (Hotwire and National Car Rental) wouldn't help out. Due to unprecedented times we are in, I feel they should be more flexible. The flight time change was not my doing. Now they want me to sit at the airport for 3 hours to wait for my rental car. No thanks. I'll eat the money and rent from someone else that is more understanding. I will never rent from National or book with Hotwire again.

I honestly can't say enough bad things about this experience. A normal standard of renting cars through any website and any company is to have the ability to drive between states. When my friend and I rented this car we were NEVER informed that part of the deal would be that we could not leave the state of Colorado. We INTENTIONALLY did a Denver-Denver reservation because we thought that made things easier for rental companies and it would be less complex.
It was not until we got to the rental agency - Ace Rent-A-Car - and had a discussion about the toll options offered that we realized that would be something we would need to figure out, but whatever it was what it was. HOWEVER, it was not until a few days later during our first week of a 7-week western road-trip that we were exploring options for the toll plan to see if we could do the drives without hitting tolls that we found a tiny contingence that said we could not leave the state.
At first, we tried using Hotwire's online helping agent who could not have been more dismissive and less helpful saying it was all contingent upon the policies agreed upon between us and Ace Rental Cars. After spending 4 hours cumulatively trying to get through to Ace agents and, eventually, a manager there, we were informed that Hotwire held the money from Ace and that Ace would adjust the reservation to enable us to drive out of state. Following this, we called Ace directly and spent another hour cumulatively with an agent and a manager who had nothing to say besides, "I hear you sir, but there is nothing we can do." At the end of the day, there were many things they could have done, they just were not willing.
Considering all the non-refundable bookings we had in other states, all we were asking for was for them to be flexible with the policy, a new car through a different agency, or a partial refund as we would have to rent a new car -- which was what we eventually had to do. Hotwire was unwilling to do anything besides continue to reject us and eventually hung up on us -- this was without a doubt the worst customer service experience I have ever had and left me with a lower opinion of the capability of human beings to be sympathetic period.
I never leave these reviews but I had to leave this because I will never, ever, ever forget it and I hope just one person sees this and rents anything through ANY OTHER AGENCY. We ended up getting a different car through another agency who laughed at us for asking if we could take it out of state and even when out of their way to inform us we would get our money back if we returned early, which we ended up doing with this useless car. Hotwire -- you are the worst company ever.

I booked a car rental for my disabled husbands trip to Alabama to see his dying mother. His license expired on his birthday and due to Covid we had to renew online. He was sent a temporary license valid thru Dec. 2020 which I took a photo of on his phone. We did not receive any paperwork but his license is valid, which was the requirement. Upon his arrival to pickup his car they refused to accept his valid license and did not let him have the car I paid for. Hotwire refused to refund stating it's their policy that you cannot cancel. We did not cancel and I believe they should refund the fees since it was no fault of ours that we could not get the paid for car. I spoke to two line customer service reps and two supervisors and one hung up and the other said I told you our policy and we can't help you. I asked for contact information to corporate and they refused to provide it. I will never use this company again and I will tell every person that they are crooks.

Don't do it! I have used this company for years. For some reason this company is not performing as normal. I made reservations for a 3.5 star hotel. The actual hotel I received was more like 1 stars. The hotel had ZERO amenities that were listed. The staff was extremely unprofessional I witness 3 arguments between staff members alone on my short stay. The heaters did not work so rooms were freezing cold. Only one ice machine worked in a building with well over 200 rooms & the ice machine was on the 6th floor.
I contacted Hotwire about this issue and they claim there was nothing they could do about it. I spoke to a supervisor & she stated she could give me a $40 credit. She stated verbatim out of her mouth if hotwire gives me the same hotel she can transfer me to another hotel if I give them a call back. She explained that she would put this in my concern account notes.
I made an additional one night reservation through Hotwire with my $40 credit & received the same raggedy hotel. I called Hotwire as the supervisor told me. Hotwire acted as if I was lying and told me that they don't have an employee by that name or badge number given to me. Offered no solution. I'm sure they can pull up recorded phone messages but did not do so.
In addition to this upon check out this hotel charged me additional $40. For no reason at all! I am so done with this company! I advise any others to STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM THIS COMPANY AND ANY COMPANY AFFILIATED WITH THEM. I'm sure in no time they will be out of business because of the way they handle customer service issues.

Purchased a package deal with insurance in Feb. 2020 but due to covid we had to cancel. Called and got refund for hotel but was told airlines (two different airline) would only give refund if they changed the flight schedule. Delta changed and we were issues a parcel refund. American has changed the flight and I can't get anyone from Hotwire to talk to to find out about refunds. You call the number and someone from Expedia picks up and can't help. I have call 7 different numbers and all go to someone from Expedia and if they transfer you someone else from Expedia picks up. I have call approx. 16 times in the last two days. Spent well over 4 hrs on hold time. Will never use this company again.

Beware of Hotwire!!!! If you purchase the hotwire deal expect them to take your money even if your travel will be cancelled due to COVID. The fall is coming and Covid cases are on the rise. We were ripped off by Hotwire who refused to even accommodate us for a credit toward a future booking. We booked a car rental in January 2020, prior to the pandemic. We were informed we could not travel to Florida. Airlines credited, condo refunded and Hotwire claimed it was Sixth Car rental policy that refused to refund and therefore there was nothing they could do. Sixth car rental on the other hand stated in an email that since we booked with hotwire, it was up to them to refund our money. Hotwire refused.
I am saving all my phone documentation and emails and waiting for a class action lawsuit against Hotwire for their dishonest and deceiving practice of not trying to do the right thing and stand behind the consumer. They found a loophole to steal thousands of dollars from decent folk. Would wonder...if the car rental agency burned down the day before we arrived to pick up a car rental, would hotwire refund or keep the consumers' money? It was the pandemic that caused us not to travel and not because we cancelled. Shame on Hotwire for stealing our hard earned money!!! Says a lot about this companies reputation.

I have been a customer of Hotwire for many years. Typically, I book one of their Hot Rates get a good deal and use the reservation. This June with COVID going on I was reluctant to make a reservation with all the uncertainty. Hotwire was advertising that because of COVID they were allowing cancellations. So, I went ahead and booked. My plans changed so I went to their website and cancelled. Message said it could take up to 30 days to process cancellation. I received an email 60 days later denying my cancellation request.
I can't get a clear answer as to why, other than my request was denied. Here's the language that was on my receipt. Cancellation: All new Hot Rate® Hotel bookings made from March 20 – June 15, 2020, with travel starting on or before June 15, 2020 are eligible for free cancellation. Cancellations or changes can be made up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival date. My reservation was for June 13, 2020. I followed the instructions to cancel. Have called several times and they have not really provided an explanation other than it was denied. Customer Service is awful. Be aware of booking with Hotwire.

We had an 14-day car rental beginning with our arrival in Spokane, WA late on a Saturday evening. On Friday morning, my husband and I agreed that we should call our pediatrician to run our son's symptoms by them and see if a COVID test was warranted. Long story short: a COVID test was ordered after a phone screening and we were able to have it done that same day. The estimated turnaround time was 72 hours. We gave it as much time as we could the next day before we were scheduled to fly, but when the result didn't come we felt that it would be wrong to travel with the possibility that our son was carrying COVID.
Alaska Airlines was AMAZING and rescheduled us without penalty or even making us pay the increased fare for flying a different day. Hotwire, however, stiffed us. They appear to have no refund/cancellation policy tailored to the COVID situation. They communicated as though they have no understanding of the situation at all. We explained the common sense decision we made, and they wanted to know if I (as the one whose name was on the reservation) was unable to travel. No, of course not. (facepalm here)
When we had it, we sent them (via chat) a copy of my son's test result showing that the test was done before travel and the result came after we would have departed. It had the name of the medical institution that ordered and performed the test. Unacceptable. It must be a letter on doctor's letterhead saying that my son was "under a doctor's care" and "unable to travel" during the dates of our reservation. That's impossible: no one was "treating" our son and he was not "unable to travel". How is it not clear to them that the situation was not fabricated and that in the midst of a worldwide pandemic we made the obvious right decision to delay travel until we knew for certain my son was negative????
We will NEVER book through Hotwire again. We've spent many hours on the phone with them, gone as high as we can go, written an articulate letter to them describing every detail of the situation and expressing our feelings, and we feel confident no-one outside of India will ever read it. This is WRONG. When I read here that Hotwire has treated others in similar pandemic-induced situations similarly, I can only conclude that rather than struggle doing the right thing as other businesses are doing, they are profiting and literally STEALING money from people who are receiving no service whatsoever from them. We are a single-income family and a $900 donation to a heartless corporation is no drop in the bucket. I am sickened by their performance in this situation and deeply disappointed in their lack of humanity.

Absolutely, unacceptable. I know I purchased one of the HotDeals and it explicitly says there are no refunds, but it did not specifically say the rental I choose would not be able to go out of state. When I spent an hour on the phone, the representatives said it’s described under something like page 3 of the terms that “blind rentals” may or may not allow for out-of-state travel, but it is not information that is offered upfront. I will honestly never use this service again and tell others not to as well.

Don’t ever book anything with Hotwire. I’ve spent the last month and a half trying to get a refund for a car rental that I can’t use because of COVID with a Force Majeure cancellation. First they blamed the car rental agency saying their hands were tied that the rental agency won’t do the refund. I spent an hour on the phone with them explaining to me that Hotwire books a block of car rentals from them and then resells them to the consumer. Hotwire doesn’t send them any of the money, so they have nothing to refund. After I called out Hotwire about this they kept ignoring the whole point of Force Majeure cancellations and will not refund the money.
I will be booking everything Priceline from now on. They refunded my money within a matter of days no questions or hassle. (All the same travel time period). Meanwhile the one reservation Hotwire did manage to refund is because myself and the wonderful front desk manager at La Quinta Inn Huntsville Research Park had to speak to them multiple times telling them I was owed a refund.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! IF YOU GOT A GREAT RATE, IT'S ABOUT TO MORE THAN DOUBLE!!!! If I could give zero stars, I would. I booked a 'Hot Rate' car, that means an unbelievable price and you don't know which company until you pay. Soooo, we got a one week rental with Nu Car Rental for $75 all in, pre-paid. Nice. When we arrived in Miami, we followed the directions to take the tram and then called the number and waited at the requested shuttle stop. The driver came within a reasonable time and brought us to the office. They had our reservation and asked for liability insurance.
We've been through this before so we had brought a copy of our insurance policy with Mercury Insurance. They don't work with Mercury. They claim this is on their website. However, we had agreed to this rental car company blindly (That's part of the hot rate deal). The agent (Sarah) stated that our option was to purchase their insurance for $15/day (which is more than the daily rental rate). She was nice and was just enforcing their policy but we found this completely unacceptable. That more than doubled our total rental cost. Sarah cancelled our reservation but stated that she was unable to refund our money.
After an hour and a half, (including a call between the Hotwire supervisor, Iris, calling Nu Car Rental to verify my version of events because she couldn't believe it either) there was nothing either party could do. My choices were either lose my pre-paid $75 and have no rental car or pay $105 additional for the one week rental. SO RIDICULOUS. I left. I found a better the rate the next day from Hertz. Stay away from these rinky dink, questionable vendors.

We scheduled and paid for a car rental for a trip to Myrtle Beach in May. Had to cancel, hotels closed and unsafe. Called "Dollar" who said Hotwire to cancel in full because Dollar Rental is waiving all fees fees, etc. to Hotwire. I called Hotwire who refused, said non-refundable. I called back and forth from Dollar and seven times with same answers.
Finally was promised from Hotwire that could talk to supervisor in 7 days and they provided Conf # for that promise. Called 7 days later and they said supervisor's were busy with other customers due to Coronavirus and refused to let me speak with a supervisor. Furthermore, a Hotwire rep (that promised I could speak with a supervisor in 7 days) said in order to get a refund, must submit for cancelation on their on-line form. I was hesitant to do that, but he insisted it was just they needed more time due to high volume of customers, He submitted the form to cancel for me and said to watch my email.
I called again to follow-up and they said it's canceled and reservation is gone...and there will be no refund. Non-refundable and National Pandemic does not matter to Hotwire!!!! Hotwire says they go by their own rules and Dollar has no say in the matter The ONLY reason we would cancel our trip is for a National Pandemic that we could have never anticipated. For your sake, DO NOT reserve anything through Hotwire. I will keep my paperwork and if government mandates they make refunds I will be the first to file!

Called Hotwire and could only chat via text and was told I would not get a refund. I told Hotwire what the rental agency said they only had to call on my behalf and Hotwire replied that the "contractual agreement would be a Hotwire Credit", so I asked for my credit and was told by Hotwire that I would not receive it, that it was for them. I normally only had good experiences, booking through Hotwire. This time was the exact opposite. I got to the hotel a little bit late, but it was if not close to midnight, maybe 5 or ten minutes after. When I got there, the front desk staff was on the phone with Hotwire already, and they were actually cancelling my reservation already. I used a prepaid card to book my room for 5 nights, coming to about 444.00 CND, and so when they had told me that the transaction did not go through, I checked, and there was a pending transaction for Hotwire for the amount of my room for 5 days just as there should have been.
We ended up just paying the hotel for the night, which was 80$, and just waited till morning to call and ask about the other 444.00 that was pending on the card. When I called in the morning, the agent told me that my booking had been cancelled, due to the transaction not going through, and that I was being issued a refund (is that an oxymoron, or an idiom?... Seriously?) I of course responded by saying that doesn't make any sense and may I please speak to your supervisor. When the supervisor came to the phone, I let them know that if this wasn't figured out by noon, that I would either have to check out, and because of COVID-19 I wouldn't even be able to go sit in a restaurant. The supervisor told me that they would put a note that the request was urgent, but that the transaction team would be contacting me by either/or by email or my phone number.
Well, it's 9:35 pm, and I have not heard anything from the transaction team, and not only that but I have phoned twice already this evening after 8pm, and both phone calls lead me nowhere. The first time the call just started beeping and dropped, the second I was transferred to a menu that asked if I needed my booking reconfirmed and otherwise led me absolutely nowhere but to a electronic message. I am so horrified at the customer service representatives of Hotwire, and how they have treated us during a time that's already stressful for us all, but they couldn't even have been bothered to even deal with the situation at all. I will definitely never be booking with them again and I would be even more inclined to highly NOT recommend booking with them yourselves.

Hotwire is the most unprofessional disgusting company I have ever dealt with in my life and I travel frequently. We had to cancel our trip due to Covid-19. First off, their phones were literally NOT WORKING or "off the hook" the first week I tried canceling. I decided to email since that was the ONLY option to get through to Hotwire. In the interim I continued trying to call, which when their phones starting "working" they would hang up on me intentionally before I could even get my information out. I then tried using their online chat, to which they continued saying they refused to refund my money and there was nothing they could do. They also decided to finally respond to my email that they cannot process or respond via email (even though that was their directions on their website) because of their high volume.
Hotwire was the ONLY company who did not give me a refund. Even Thrifty the rental car company said Hotwire should be giving me a refund - it was unethical for them not to since this cancellation was due to Covid-19. I was able to get a refund (regardless of their no refund policies) with every single other company except Hotwire. If you want to get screwed and lose your money - use hotwire. If you want a company who cares about you - stay AWAY!

I live in Florida, and make a yearly trip to Ohio in the early part of April to have scheduled appointment with my accountant to file my income taxes.
My accountant called me today and said Ohio is locked down by governor's orders due to the Corona Virus, and most have to stay at home under self quarantine! Their office is now closed and will not be open by the week of April 7th! I will have to reschedule my appointment, and trip for sometime in May? I explained this situation to the Hotwire representative, and was told due to the terms of the car rental agreement made through them with Hertz, the money paid in advance for this rental would not be refunded, and no credits would be issued.
I understand under normal circumstances this would be the case. The circumstances these days are not normal, with most of the country being stuck, at home with many businesses being closed for an indefinite time. One would think that Hotwire and Hertz would flex their cancellation policies during these difficult times, due to this unusual situation, and to keep their customer base. A few weeks later, my whole state put in place the "shelter in place" policy as others have mentioned due to the Corona Virus, I felt that my health was important, so I needed to cancel my trip. I also tried calling the hotel who informed me there was nothing they could do and that I would have to talk with Hotwire.
I thought, hey I bought trip insurance, let me see if I can contact the insurance company owned by Hotwire, I have yet to receive an email response or update on my claim. A few days before my trip, I noticed hotwire allowed users to submit a refund request online, After some days, I didn't receive a confirmation email that they received my request or that my request went through. This is the worst customer service experience I've experienced in the hospitality field and am out almost $500 dollars. I would have thought that they would have been flexible given the current health pandemic. I definitely feel like they could have handled everyone's cancellations better as people will remember this experience once things get back to normal. Luckily I booked by flight with Expedia. We thought it would be simple fix of just switching my name over as the driver. The rental car company informed us that we would need to make all changes through Hotwire. So we called and were disconnected 4 times. After 3 hours of being on hold and getting disconnected repeatedly, we finally got through and were informed that because it was a hot rate, there were not changes or refunds allowed. Upon asking to speak with a manager, we were told that that was not being done right now and that there was nothing they could do. So we lost $570 because of a wallet getting lost. The event that they are going to was cancelled and we called hotwire to get a refund on the hotel at which point they told us that it could only be cancelled if the hotel authorize the cancellation so the customer service rep put me on hold while she called the hotel. I was on hold for five minutes and she came back on and told me that the hotel did not authorize the refund and therefore could not issue a refund to us. Instead she offered a $60 cancellation fee and leaving of $960 credit with the hotwire to use within the year. I said, "No I do not want to take that option" and then she said OK.
I asked if I could call the hotel directly myself and she said, "Sure. As long as you get an authorization from them you can get your refund." I called the hotel myself and spoke with the manager who reported that the reservation under our name had been already cancelled by hotwire. I did not appreciate being lied to. This is not good customer service! Now not only do I not have a hotel if I were to go I do not have my money either!! They are giving out false information and are being very dishonest. I did not appreciate being lied to and I need my full refund.

Do not book a "non refundable" car rental (or anything) through Hotwire. We had to cancel our trip due to Coronavirus and hotwire will not refund us or give us credit to rebook in the future. SHAME on them. This is a global pandemic. Our flights were booked through Jetblue (thank God) and they were so easy and quick to work with and get the flight cancelled and refunded despite also being "non refundable." Hot wire DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. We can not afford to just throw away 400$ on a car rental we are unable to use. They should be more understanding.

I used Hotwire to booked Hotel, as I was traveling from AZ to PHL to DE to pick up my extremely ill mother and relocate her to my home in AZ. My mom was hospitalized days before the trip and while Hilton was ok with a 48-hour cancellation, I had to go through Hotwire to make the request. I wrote Hotwire twice within a 24 hour period days prior to travel with no response and spent several hours on hold with NO RESOLVE, and this is also during the Corona Virus. Hotwire is not a company I will do business with further as their focus are on profits first, second, third and to hell with what else is going on in the world or with others. Never again!!!

If you read a majority of the complaints filed here and with the BBB, most of them are about the "Hot Rate" deals... A majority of people complain of being misled, and when asking for help or guidance, are told "Our Hot Rate rentals are deeply discounted, and as such, are booked as final and non-refundable... We obtain deeply discounted rates in exchange for guaranteed reservations. If our partners can be absolutely confident reservations will be used as sold, they are willing to offer reduced rates." - this is a direct quote from a complaint written 2/14/20. The reply was written 2/24/20 by Bianca V. Customer Care Relations, Hotwire Corporate Office
Now I will explain how they are misleading guests and hiding behind that fact that we as consumers are so excited for a deal, and that we are naive in trusting a "reputable" company... I travel often and usually use other sites to book. In fact, I had already booked a car rental on another site for $29/day. I am renting for a week and their price was $231.60 + tax of $65.66 for a total of $297.26. Upon finishing this booking, a pop-up from hotwire.com shows up claiming that they could rent me the same car at $19/day... WOW, I thought! This is amazing... Given that the taxes I paid already were 28.35%, this should have put the car rental at roughly $196... Honestly, I was so excited, I didn't even look at the final price or read the terms and conditions... which I am sure they bank on...
I clicked through everything, and paid for my reservation... Final cost....$277.55($149.10 as base rate + $128.45 tax). $20 cheaper than my initial reservation through company B... Then I went to sleep and thought about this... How did my tax rate become 86.15%? If hotwire.com is getting these rates from the rental companies "in exchange for guaranteed reservations," shouldn't the paying customer benefit from the "rates?" Answer is..we as paying customers do not... hotwire.com keeps it!!! THERE IS NO BENEFIT FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMER... BEWARE!!!!
I tried to call and ask why I was paying more in taxes... The answer I got was that there different regulations... Blah blah blah,... Taxes are GOVERNED by the GOVERNMENT. They do not change by almost 60%. The service agent on the phone said there was nothing that can be done because sales are final... I wanted an answer, so I asked to speak to her supervisor...who also told me that there was nothing that can be done. I am in the business of customer service... there is always something that can be done to make your PAYING CUSTOMERS happy and want to return and do more business. Further...to prove this again...I looked up the same car, from the same rental agency for the same dates on their retail version.... Ready for this... Car = $234.88 Tax = $66.22 for a total of $301.10... Again the tax is 28%.

BEWARE OF PREDATORY PRACTICES!!! I have used Hotwire.com in the past to book hotel stays for me and my family in the past and have noticed a pattern that has increased over the years that only seems to be getting worst. Hotwire.com has two types of offerings for hotel bookings on their website. One is the typical booking that one would expect from other online hotel booking brokers where one books the hotel knowing which hotel one is getting and another method where, for a slight savings, one can book a hotel without knowing which hotel one gets but know the general region one will be staying in. I have historically booked with only the latter method.
In the past, when someone booked through the anonymous method one clearly knew what one could expect to pay as the price one paid was inclusive of the stay, apart from incidental fees like room service or additional services one could elect post arrival. Lately, however, more and more of these bookings have fine print pricing details where they state that the hotel carries an additional "resort fee" that is charged by the hotel upon check-in. These fees began modestly and have escalated to the point where they are as expensive or even more expensive than the actual price paid to Hotwire.com.
Some would argue that this is far from predatory given the transparency, albeit small print, when one books through Hotwire.com, and I would agree. The fees are an outrage but are far from inexcusable given that one can elect or not elect to book with these hotels. However, the latest unscrupulous business practice that is clearly predatory is what is NOT stated when one books through Hotwire.com. Now one is also expected to pay exorbitant resort fees that often exceed the original price of the hotel AND be met with additional fees that are NOT stated when one agrees to book an anonymous hotel that carries the condition that the booking is non-negotiable and can not be cancelled.
Personal example: I recently booked three nights at the Grand Orlando Resort at Celebration 2900 Parkway Blvd, Kissimmee, FL 34747. The advertised price for the anonymous method (I was not aware of the name of the hotel prior to my booking it) is: $39 a night. The small print "resort fee" price that was posted prior to booking is: $28. In total my booking price inclusive of Hotwire.com's price as well as the resort fee for three nights is: $226.95 (a far cry from $117 would expect if they don't read the fine print). When I called the hotel I was told that I would also be charged a $15 per night parking fee. That is $45 in addition to the $84 tack onto the price advertised. This is a predatory practice that hid behind a complete lack of transparency through Hotwire.com.
When I called Hotwire.com to complain and state that the existence of this additional charge was not only predatory but also constituted a breach of contract, I was told that all sales are final and that there would be no cancellations. I will NOT ever do business with Hotwire.com and I would advise anyone that values their money and believes that businesses should follow basic ethical practices to avoid this site at all cost.

I purchased a hotel stay through Hotwire. I have done this many times over the past 25 years. I have NEVER had such a bad experience. This hotel was not updated since the 60's. The door was UNLOCKED when we went to the room. As we tried to lock it it wouldn't lock. The lock was loose and jiggly, and we had to adjust the door to get it to lock.
As soon as we walked in, there is a shabby little sink there, and a cheap little wall separating that bath area from the rest of the room. The alarm clock was 25 years old, a cheap plastic thing, and even though it was plugged in it didn't work. There was ONE cheap little plastic lamp. There was a table with a chair, and a tiny TV way over in the corner. The remote had teeth marks in it as though a dog chewed on it like a bone. The smoke ALARM WAS dismantled, and the top part was laying on a shelf in the room. Like they forgot to put the batteries in, THAT ALONE was enough for a fire hazard. It smelled really bad, and the shower had a squishy feel when you stepped in.
When I called the manager the next day and told him, after I spoke with Hotwire, he got very defensive, and said "Call them, you're not getting a refund"....meaning call the fire dept. after I told him about the smoke alarm. I have pictures to prove it. HOTWIRE offered 20.00 to compensate. I told them, "Thanks but that will not do". The hotel manager will not help. Who else is there....maybe HOTWIRE Corporate can step in. It was the worst experience I've ever had. BY THE WAY < the pictures on the hotel website look NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING>. THE REAL HOTEL IS OLD AND OUTDATED

Sounded good because it had the name Logan in the name so I thought we will be close to the airport. However, upon closer inspection the Hotel was in Saugus, Massachusetts. It is 1 hour and 30 mins by bus. 25 minutes by car. I called customer service and they told me to deal with it basically. I looked further and I could have got the hotel on another site for $4 more than my great deal. That will now cost me $35 cab fare both ways. Booked and pre paid for a car in Orlando Fl. Looked at the display of car rental companies with whom they work and was comfortable that the non refundable price would be OK. I was assigned to the NU Car Rental Company. A few weeks later, but 5 months before my trip, I researched the NU Car Rental Company represented in Orlando by Action Car Rental. The NU or Action Companies were not listed on the Hotwire main page. After searching I was able to locate some reviews and NONE were good. They included lack of cars, dirty cars, rude desk staff and fear for the reviewers safety in the NU/Action vehicle. I contacted HOTWIRE to ask if I could be reassigned another company or get a refund. (Yes it was a Hot Rate deal) The "chat" rep was unwilling to be of any assistance but did do a great job of evading my claim of a potential BAIT AND SWITCH scam. The rep said contact the NU Car Rental Company.
I contacted the NU company via email and explained them that I had. I was not comfortable, based on all the negative reviews to trust their company as my rental agents for my family Disney Vacation. I asked if they could assure my rental experience would be 100% successful so that I could add a positive review to the all the negative ones or at the very least I requested a refund. My reply email thanked me for my "kind email" and they are happy I chose their company. Lastly I contacted my credit card company who, as an ethical company, has limited ability to help in this situation. Lesson learned, I no longer will do business the Hotwire for my peace of mind and my safety.

When I called, they said because I prepaid such a great “hot” rate, nothing could be changed and they would keep my money with no recourse. I called the car rental company directly to rebook. Guess what? Not only was I told the rate was cheaper but I didn’t have to prepay. What a scam! No thank You...He said, "Please sign the 6 forms on the computer," ok I start reading before sign in and he got upset again he said, "Ma'am You don't need read that. Just sign it so we don't waste more time." I told him I read before sign anything, he said I'm rude woman and I'm wasting his time when he is ready to go home. It was 10pm. They were closing 11:30 pm.
I already was there waiting more than 2 hours, decided say nothing, signed the form without reading then they turned off the light. It got dark in the office and the agent hand me the contract and ask me to sign the one also, I told him I don't see anything you turned off the light, they start making very rude comments about me taking their time, etc but they turned the light back and let me sign the documents then my agent throw the keys on the desk and he said, "That's your keys." "Which car is mine?" I asked and his answer was going outside and look for it, press the key, any car will light up is yours.
They lock the door behind us and left the office before we found the car. Car was soaking wet and dirty. After driving it home I realized the car is a danger to drive if You go faster than 40 miles/h it will shake horribly. On the morning I saw the car have some damages on the back. This is one of those companies that has everything outsourced so if you have any issue you have to speak to someone in India just to have them tell you to go ** yourself...So I made two huge mistakes - the first was booking with Hotwire, the second was grabbing my state ID card instead of my drivers license when I was running out the door to catch my flight (I had just purchased a new wallet), ANYWAY, I arrived at the Minneapolis Hertz location and they understandably would not rent to me because I had a state ID with me instead of my license - they needed HOTWIRE authorization to either refund me OR to change the reservation to be under my girlfriend's name. MORE THAN AN HOUR ON THE PHONE WITH HOTWIRE'S *HORRIBLE* CUSTOMER SERVICE - and they did NOTHING. It was an unusual circumstance and they did not care at all about finding any resolution.
The answer was basically that they had my money and nothing was refundable or transferable and to go screw myself. Luckily there was ONE LAST CAR available at another rental company - so thankfully we weren't stranded at the airport the day after Christmas, but between Hotwire/Expedia ripping me off for the reservation and the last minute cost of the other rental, it ruined our trip. I've emailed Hotwire support with my Itinerary number in the SUBJECT line and got what may have been an automated reply asking me for an itinerary number. I responded and of course did not hear back.
It is amazing to me that I paid in full for a rental car - HERTZ apparently never saw any of that money - and because of the issue Hotwire sees itself as justified in just taking my money and not providing any service? The fact that they weren't willing to help me in any way was (and still is) really upsetting. After being outside in the cold with a 4 year old child!, I was put on hold for OVER 2 hours while trying to figure this situation out. I called from a different phone just to get hung up on after being on hold for a extra 45mins and still has not gotten nowhere with the issue. Called HOTWIRE customer support a couple of times, they do not have a clue as the system did not generate any reservation. And the worst part of it was they put you on hold for few mins and disconnect the call. This is worst customer service I have ever seen. I was promised a rate of $87.20 for my hotel reservation. I have a screen shot of the amount I was supposed to be charged before processing my card. However, when my card was processed, I was charged $102.20 because the coupon didn't process even though it had already deducted from my cart total. I called customer service and was told they could give me a $15 credit toward my next purchase. When I explained that didn't help them overdrawing my bank account and that I would not be purchasing another trip, it didn't matter.
After being on hold for a while, the representative said they could call the hotel, see IF they would possibly cancel the room and then Hotwire could re-book it for me using the $15 coupon that was supposed to have come off before. HOWEVER, the rep said they could not guarantee that I would be able to re-book at the same price even if the hotel agreed to cancel so it could end up costing even more that it already was costing. These are not acceptable solutions when a company charges a different price before and after checkout. That is shady.

I have rented cars through Hotwire for many years and always felt good with the price, until recently. In a certain location of the US, I have been told by the car rental agency that the amount due at the counter is higher than what Hotwire quoted. When addressed to Hotwire, I was told that I should discuss it with the specific rental agency, which I have done. But this is a Hotwire issue, not a customer issue! Hotwire is the one who is giving inaccurate information. Showing up at the counter, after prepaying a portion of the rental cost, is not the time to find out the overall cost will be significantly higher. If you decline your rental, you don't get the money back which had been paid to Hotwire. I don't think I'll rent through them again.

I called Hotwire but wasn’t able to get any help. There weren’t any hotel rooms available within 40 miles. I was stranded in the middle of the night, in the cold, in the middle of nowhere, with my four year old son. I had to do a 45 minute drive at 2:30am to find a hotel that had rooms open because Hotwire said they could not do anything for me. Did not authorize them to cancel my room in Las Vegas on Dec 4th. Then they said they gave me a full refund to my credit card. WRONG. Never happened. They moved the funds to a hotel problem in Seattle. 2 different bookings. I got my deposit back from Red Roof Inn (Richardson, TX) yet when I call to get the funds from the booking refunded the representatives ask for a death cert, obituary, and/or other documents in order to get the refund. The rep at the hotel told me to call hotwire and they will conference with hotel manager to approve the refund knowing I didn't even go in the room (117). So you rent a car on Hotwire. You preen through all the choices and you as a consumer have a good reason to select a car, not just say, "Give me anything and I will pay." WELL surprise. This IS THE NEW Hotwire WAY. You rent the car you think you are getting and when you go to the rental agency, they give you something totally different. When you say, "It's not the car I booked", or, "I dont want this car," they say, "Too bad. This is all there is so you HAVE to take it." It could be really tiny and your 6 friends wont fit in it,, or it could be a huge gas guzzler and just you in it. Too bad. That's the deal HotWIRE makes with the car rental agents.
I wrote customer service with Hotwire and they explained in detail – because a consumer can cancel the car rental or have flexibility, in turn Hotwire agrees to not make a real booking of the car you wanted. But rather, you the consumer are at the mercy of what is at the rental car agency. So, IF you appreciate customer service and being treated like your hard earned money and choices ARE appreciated, HOTWIRE is not for you.

Hotwire is great until you find a price match. I booked 2 hotel rooms for one night, and 3 weeks prior to reservation I found a match on Expedia for $400 LESS. So I contacted hotwire right away. They said to send pictures of the deal so I did. No response. So I called and they said send them again. So I did. No response other than the email that said "We got 'em! You'll hear from us within 5 days". Never did. So I called again and they said to send the pictures again. This went on for 2 months, now past the reservation date so of course they would start off every phone call saying "it's past the reservation date" and I would explain every time that I had been pursuing the matter since 3 weeks prior to the reservation date.
When I finally freaked out on them on the phone (5th? 6th call?), they said to send the pictures AGAIN so I did. And then I got a response saying that the deal I found was in Canadian dollars and therefore they wouldn't match it. Well I had converted the deal into Canadian dollars and had the first person I had spoken with said 'the deal needs to be in US dollars'. I would have converted it back. For the record; I had mentioned it was in Canadian dollars in every exchange via email and phone that I had. Anyway. Long story short; I used to love hotwire, but I'll NEVER use them again after dealing with that level of incompetence and blatant run around to avoid living up to their price match guarantee. After a two hour phone conversation with multiple supervisors, they agreed to refund our credit card and offered the aforementioned HotDollars as a conciliatory gesture since they told us we would have to backtrack an hour to find a replacement hotel that was 1/2 a star less and didn't get nearly as good reviews. We tried to redeem those HotDollars tonight (9 months later) and in their system they don't exist. We even forwarded the emails to them. They didn't care. Zero customer service. Rated a 4 Star by Hotwire - Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney Australia::: From the moment we entered the room, we could tell we were in trouble. The 8 foot glass sliding door that opened to the dressing wardrobe was hanging on a thread. Despite notifying the front desk immediately that we would soon be impaled by glass shards the size of a small iceberg, no action was taken. Moving into the bathroom, one could easily feel the warm dampness of mildew cutting the airwaves.
Looking at the placement of the toilet, wedged firmly in the corner, if you are 6 foot or taller, be prepared to do your best yoga stretches before entering. Nothing spells comfort than performing a diagonal poo since your legs will never fit in the space provided. Your partner will love you for it as the angle makes for a good take on the "Reverse Kanga"! As you contort your body into a pretzel-like position, be sure to take in the views. From counting the rings of dirt on the bathtub, I would have to gauge that the bath is approx. 35 years old. The unusual placement of the towel rack above the toilet bowl only adds to the excitement when standing from your contorted pretzel pooping position. If you are lucky like I was, the poop wasn't the only thing to hit the side of the bowl.
If you are into cramped hotel spaces, possibly a cardboard box may suit you better than this overpriced, overrated, rundown hotel. I think the only reason why they put the Gideon's bible in the side draw is because this could be your one and only way out of this world. Enter at your own risk, my fellow trendsetters and never believe in the star rating!!!

After you have entered all info including credit card number, a big red BOOK NOW button appears. If you click that, you're locked in. To the right of that button in small print it finally says non-refundable, but you aren't likely to see it because you are taking the final step to BOOK.
This info re: non-cancellation also appears in the portion of Terms and Conditions called Product Information, but again this only appears when you are finalizing your rental. I contacted Hotwire and they sent a link showing a Hot Rate listing with a bullet underneath saying non-refundable. But when I went to hotwire.com and selected a Hot Rate car, no such bullet appeared.
