I booked a rental car with Hotwire on Jan. 19, 2020, for pickup at Honolulu international airport on August 21, 2020. Due to Covid-19 and mandatory quarantine imposed by the state of Hawaii, we need to cancel our trip, Hotwire refuses to give us the money back. The rental car company Hertz provides full refund because of Covid-19. Hotwire is stealing my money during a pandemic, while every other company is doing the right thing and providing full refund. This company is a shameful scam and only care about itself.

I've been using Hotwire for years and have had no real issues until now. I booked two car rental via Hotwire for my summer vacation to Florida but wanted to cancel due to COVID19. Even with the surge in COVID19 cases in florida, Hotwire refuses to refund my money. I contacted the rental company who stated they don't charge a fee for cancellation but since I went through hotwire, I need to contact them. I was able to cancel lodging and flight without any penalty and with refunds. NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE HOTWIRE!!!!

We planned our trip for April 26. I did not cancel our trip. Due to the pandemic no flights were taking off, no Greyhound busses were running, our Governor had the city on lockdown. I called Hotwire asking what they are going to do, they informed me "NO CANCELLATION". I told the $$$ I am cancelling the Governor is saying no one is to travel. Still not budging $176.20 down the drain. Called Capitol. One my gave me back my money, Hotwire charged me again. We should do CLASS ACTION against Hotwire, will never use them again. That's a promise.

Made a reservation through Hotwire 15 minutes before entering the hotel. Upon arrival, I checked the price I would have paid as I walk up. It was $5 less than I paid through Hotwire. I contacted Hotwire right away via their messaging site. First they said there were no cancellations allowed. I took a screenshot of the confirmation email from them that stated their cancellation policy was in effect on my reservation. Then they said they wouldn't do anything as there was a "time difference" in the pricing..?? I've used Hotwire for DOZENS of bookings. They lost a loyal customer over $5. I will never use Hotwire again. Beware.

Class action lawsuit is needed! I was ripped off by Hotwire for a car rental. I tried twice to cancel and they refused to refund my money. I had to cancel due to Covid-19 and my state being on lockdown. I contacted Sixt rental car and they never received a cancelation or my money from Hotwire. I have filed a complaint with the BBB (San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Coastal California). I have also filed a complaint with the State of California Attorney General's Office. I have contacted an attorney to file a class action lawsuit and if you've been ripped off by Hotwire, I suggest you do the same. The attorney I contacted is **.

Don’t ever book anything with Hotwire. I’ve spent the last month and a half trying to get a refund for a car rental that I can’t use because of COVID with a Force Majeure cancellation. First they blamed the car rental agency saying their hands were tied that the rental agency won’t do the refund. I spent an hour on the phone with them explaining to me that Hotwire books a block of car rentals from them and then resells them to the consumer. Hotwire doesn’t send them any of the money, so they have nothing to refund. After I called out Hotwire about this they kept ignoring the whole point of Force Majeure cancellations and will not refund the money.
I will be booking everything Priceline from now on. They refunded my money within a matter of days no questions or hassle. (All the same travel time period). Meanwhile the one reservation Hotwire did manage to refund is because myself and the wonderful front desk manager at La Quinta Inn Huntsville Research Park had to speak to them multiple times telling them I was owed a refund.

Booked a rental car in February and paid in full. After in became clear we would not be able to travel due to covid, flights canceled, the state we we’re traveling to wasn’t allowing tourists, couldn’t book condos/hotels because of governors orders - impossible to figure it out. I tried to cancel almost a month before our trip and never heard from them until today and they said it wouldn’t qualify. They couldn’t do any type of refund. Contacted the BBB as someone else suggested and will see what can be done.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! IF YOU GOT A GREAT RATE, IT'S ABOUT TO MORE THAN DOUBLE!!!! If I could give zero stars, I would. I booked a 'Hot Rate' car, that means an unbelievable price and you don't know which company until you pay. Soooo, we got a one week rental with Nu Car Rental for $75 all in, pre-paid. Nice. When we arrived in Miami, we followed the directions to take the tram and then called the number and waited at the requested shuttle stop. The driver came within a reasonable time and brought us to the office. They had our reservation and asked for liability insurance.
We've been through this before so we had brought a copy of our insurance policy with Mercury Insurance. They don't work with Mercury. They claim this is on their website. However, we had agreed to this rental car company blindly (That's part of the hot rate deal). The agent (Sarah) stated that our option was to purchase their insurance for $15/day (which is more than the daily rental rate). She was nice and was just enforcing their policy but we found this completely unacceptable. That more than doubled our total rental cost. Sarah cancelled our reservation but stated that she was unable to refund our money.
After an hour and a half, (including a call between the Hotwire supervisor, Iris, calling Nu Car Rental to verify my version of events because she couldn't believe it either) there was nothing either party could do. My choices were either lose my pre-paid $75 and have no rental car or pay $105 additional for the one week rental. SO RIDICULOUS. I left. I found a better the rate the next day from Hertz. Stay away from these rinky dink, questionable vendors.

I booked flights and a car rental for a vacation in August, because of the pandemic I have canceled my vacation, called the airline, canceled my flights without any issues, sent in an online request to Hotwire to cancel my car rental and was denied. I called Hotwire and got the same answer, they refuse to refund or even give a credit for the rental. Everyone is taking a hit because of this pandemic but Hotwire refuses to do their part. I think this says a lot about what type of company this is. I hope that after this pandemic is over that everyone remembers this and refuses to use this company and they go under! Also, I believe we all need to flood social media with the horrible business practices they’ve exercised.

We had planned a surprise bday trip for my father in law in July. He has never been outside of Texas and has always wanted to go to Seattle. We booked the trip January 28. Once the nation was put under locked down due to COVID19, my father in law got very worried about traveling to Seattle since he isn't in the best health. I started to cancel everything the middle of March because I knew it was going to take a while. American Airlines refunded, no questions asked. AirBNB refunded, no questions asked. My rental car through Hotwire is a different story unfortunately. I waited about a month with no response. So I chatted with a Hotwire representative who said my cancel request was DENIED! I asked why and they said because my trip was still so many months out and to send in another cancellation form closer to my trip date.
Today (5/26/2020) I called to get a status check and they said THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME!!!! COULD DO NOTHING!!! What kind of customer service is this?! We are in the middle of a global pandemic and all this company can think about is THEIR MONEY! It is absolutely absurd! I will continue to email them EVERYDAY until someone gives me another answer! THE CANCELLATION IS NOT OUR FAULT! We would of LOVED to get away from Texas for a little bit but I understand my father in law's concerns. SHAME ON YOU HOTWIRE! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN TO BOOK ANYTHING! RUNNN!!! Don't book with them! Book with Kayak!!! They are more customer friendly and do care about their customers!!! I finally received a short email with virtually no explanation denying refund. Email stated our travel dates weren’t covered, but they didn’t bother to state what dates were. I booked a car rental via Hotwire for a car through "Sixt" rental company for my trip to Philadelphia, PA. Neither company would budge on either a credit or refund for a prepaid car rental for memorial day weekend based on a no cancellation policy. However, when the trip was booked back in early March, it was prior to all the Covid state shut downs. My trip was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid as Philadelphia is still under a state of emergency/"stay at home" order through June 6, 2020 which overlaps my original trip date.
Most other car services are allowing for either credits or allowing cancellations with refunds due to these extenuating circumstances. What did both Sixt and Hotwire tell me? Well, they basically said I'm out of luck and won't receive a refund or credit. Both Sixt and Hotwire have exhibited poor customer service in comparison to other companies who provide the same services. I would highly recommend using more morally sound companies for your booking needs. I know I will.

I had a car rental reservation for late July. Booked through Hotwire but the car was from Alamo. Sadly had to cancel our entire trip due to Covid 19. All aspects of my trip were fully refunded by airlines, hotels, etc. Even Expedia, Hotwire's parent company, refunded me. Now I get a letter from Hotwire claiming Alamo will not refund my money. Which is a flat out lie.
A call and visit to Alamos website clearly state all cancelations are fully refundable but if you booked by a third party you should contact them for a refund. Hotwire continues to blame Alamo, who they haven't even paid yet. I have now read countless reviews of people who have this same issue with Hotwire. Over and over it is the same thing. No one could control what is going on. No one wanted to cancel their trips. People are out of work with no income on top of becoming ill. But Hotwire's response is only to steal money from their customers. They aren't even offering a credit. Just keeping my $600. I'm now going to my credit card company and hopefully they will be able to help. It's a heartless and disgusting move on Hotwire's part to try to profit off of this horrible situation that the world is in. And every response they give me is that they are working hard to find a way to offer refunds. But it seems no one has been able to get one.

Hotwire states that the issue is between the hotel and myself per their policy that I accepted during the booking. When pressed I was informed that they have a very strict “no refund under any circumstances policy” and that I would not be getting a refund. We scheduled and paid for a car rental for a trip to Myrtle Beach in May. Had to cancel, hotels closed and unsafe. Called "Dollar" who said Hotwire to cancel in full because Dollar Rental is waiving all fees fees, etc. to Hotwire. I called Hotwire who refused, said non-refundable. I called back and forth from Dollar and seven times with same answers.
Finally was promised from Hotwire that could talk to supervisor in 7 days and they provided Conf # for that promise. Called 7 days later and they said supervisor's were busy with other customers due to Coronavirus and refused to let me speak with a supervisor. Furthermore, a Hotwire rep (that promised I could speak with a supervisor in 7 days) said in order to get a refund, must submit for cancelation on their on-line form. I was hesitant to do that, but he insisted it was just they needed more time due to high volume of customers, He submitted the form to cancel for me and said to watch my email.
I called again to follow-up and they said it's canceled and reservation is gone...and there will be no refund. Non-refundable and National Pandemic does not matter to Hotwire!!!! Hotwire says they go by their own rules and Dollar has no say in the matter The ONLY reason we would cancel our trip is for a National Pandemic that we could have never anticipated. For your sake, DO NOT reserve anything through Hotwire. I will keep my paperwork and if government mandates they make refunds I will be the first to file!

I normally only had good experiences, booking through Hotwire. This time was the exact opposite. I got to the hotel a little bit late, but it was if not close to midnight, maybe 5 or ten minutes after. When I got there, the front desk staff was on the phone with Hotwire already, and they were actually cancelling my reservation already. I used a prepaid card to book my room for 5 nights, coming to about 444.00 CND, and so when they had told me that the transaction did not go through, I checked, and there was a pending transaction for Hotwire for the amount of my room for 5 days just as there should have been.
We ended up just paying the hotel for the night, which was 80$, and just waited till morning to call and ask about the other 444.00 that was pending on the card. When I called in the morning, the agent told me that my booking had been cancelled, due to the transaction not going through, and that I was being issued a refund (is that an oxymoron, or an idiom?... Seriously?) I of course responded by saying that doesn't make any sense and may I please speak to your supervisor. When the supervisor came to the phone, I let them know that if this wasn't figured out by noon, that I would either have to check out, and because of COVID-19 I wouldn't even be able to go sit in a restaurant. The supervisor told me that they would put a note that the request was urgent, but that the transaction team would be contacting me by either/or by email or my phone number.
Well, it's 9:35 pm, and I have not heard anything from the transaction team, and not only that but I have phoned twice already this evening after 8pm, and both phone calls lead me nowhere. The first time the call just started beeping and dropped, the second I was transferred to a menu that asked if I needed my booking reconfirmed and otherwise led me absolutely nowhere but to a electronic message. I am so horrified at the customer service representatives of Hotwire, and how they have treated us during a time that's already stressful for us all, but they couldn't even have been bothered to even deal with the situation at all. I will definitely never be booking with them again and I would be even more inclined to highly NOT recommend booking with them yourselves.

Hotwire is the most unprofessional disgusting company I have ever dealt with in my life and I travel frequently. We had to cancel our trip due to Covid-19. First off, their phones were literally NOT WORKING or "off the hook" the first week I tried canceling. I decided to email since that was the ONLY option to get through to Hotwire. In the interim I continued trying to call, which when their phones starting "working" they would hang up on me intentionally before I could even get my information out. I then tried using their online chat, to which they continued saying they refused to refund my money and there was nothing they could do. They also decided to finally respond to my email that they cannot process or respond via email (even though that was their directions on their website) because of their high volume.
Hotwire was the ONLY company who did not give me a refund. Even Thrifty the rental car company said Hotwire should be giving me a refund - it was unethical for them not to since this cancellation was due to Covid-19. I was able to get a refund (regardless of their no refund policies) with every single other company except Hotwire. If you want to get screwed and lose your money - use hotwire. Today I attempted to cancel a car reservation I made through Hotwire, and was told the $231.00 I paid for this rental could not be refunded, and no credit, even a partial credit would be issued due to the terms of the agreement. I live in Florida, and make a yearly trip to Ohio in the early part of April to have scheduled appointment with my accountant to file my income taxes.
My accountant called me today and said Ohio is locked down by governor's orders due to the Corona Virus, and most have to stay at home under self quarantine! Their office is now closed and will not be open by the week of April 7th! I will have to reschedule my appointment, and trip for sometime in May? I explained this situation to the Hotwire representative, and was told due to the terms of the car rental agreement made through them with Hertz, the money paid in advance for this rental would not be refunded, and no credits would be issued.
I understand under normal circumstances this would be the case. The circumstances these days are not normal, with most of the country being stuck, at home with many businesses being closed for an indefinite time. One would think that Hotwire and Hertz would flex their cancellation policies during these difficult times, due to this unusual situation, and to keep their customer base. We called Hotwire back and have them a Hertz representative's name and number to verify this policy. They said they aren't issuing any refund or credits and don't plan to. Hotwire is an Expedia company. Boycotting both companies and filing complaint with every agency is our plan. Good case for lawyers to go after them in a class action suit.

We had to cancel our trip to Vegas due to the Covid-19 pandemic. When I reached out to Hotwire all they could say was they had strict policies. Per their website, they say their are very willing to help, however that is not the case. I asked if we could just change our reservation and I would pay any difference. I was advised was up to the car rental place (NU Car Rental) to give me a refund. So I reached out to them and was advised only Hotwire could make that decision. I then reach back out to Hotwire to asked if I could just change my reservation and then was told it was cancelled. I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was told there was not one I could talk to by Anna but I could call back in 5 days and then they may be available.
I asked when my reservation was cancelled when I sent the email I was told I would get a response that never came. She then gave me a reference number and told me I did get an email, I asked her to resend. She then could not do that because that was done by another department and I was not allowed to talk to them either. This is a true joke. They state that they are here for their customer but they only are worried about their policies. In this time, many business have gone way out of their ways to help people but not HOTWIRE!! The rep told me that prepaid reservations are nonrefundable. I told him that my airline refunded me no questions and that if I did fly to Ft Myers it could potentially kill me. He repeated again that it was nonrefundable. I told him the governor of Massachusetts declared a stay at home order. The rep didn't care. My daughter and her family were traveling to Ft Myers and received a full refund by Thrifty and airfare. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I had planned a trip back in February to celebrate my birthday in Vegas, at the end of March. A friend suggested I book with Hotwire as they have good deals, I typically use Expedia. Anyway I booked my hotel. A few weeks later, my whole state put in place the "shelter in place" policy as others have mentioned due to the Corona Virus, I felt that my health was important, so I needed to cancel my trip. When I tried calling the phone number on my itinerary, there was an error saying they could not take calls. When I tried using their message service, the message service online portal was unavailable. I also tried calling the hotel who informed me there was nothing they could do and that I would have to talk with Hotwire.
I thought, hey I bought trip insurance, let me see if I can contact the insurance company owned by Hotwire, I have yet to receive an email response or update on my claim. A few days before my trip, I noticed hotwire allowed users to submit a refund request online, After some days, I didn't receive a confirmation email that they received my request or that my request went through. I then found another number online to call, waited about 3 hours. The agent I spoke to told me that their department can't help me and that they would transfer me to the appropriate department. After transferring me, the next agent hang up in my face. I called again, same thing happened. I'm still trying to contact them regarding a refund.
This is the worst customer service experience I've experienced in the hospitality field and am out almost $500 dollars. I would have thought that they would have been flexible given the current health pandemic. I definitely feel like they could have handled everyone's cancellations better as people will remember this experience once things get back to normal. Luckily I booked by flight with Expedia. I will most likely not use them ever again. I hope people are having better luck than me. Just ridiculous.

As the virus got worse, listening to the Mayor, the government, etc we were forced to cancel our trip (hotel and car rental). Originally, I had prepaid for both the hotel and car rental. A HUGE THANK YOU TO HILTON as they reimbursed me for my entire stay which was not the policy but due to the (Worldwide Pandemic) circumstances they allowed guests to be reimbursed. However, HOTWIRE (ordered through them. Car rental place was Thrifty.) has refused to reimburse our money (more than $300.00) for a rental car that under the current circumstances we have been advised cancel.
I spoke to a lady who kept saying she understood what I was saying but policy was policy. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she said they were busy helping other guests and was unavailable. I then said I wanted to speak to someone at corporate or even the CEO which she claimed to not have any information on. NOT A HAPPY (stay at home) SPRING BREAKER! We had purchased the hot rate for a car rental months ago for our vacation. We had my husband listed as the driver. Before arriving, my husband lost his wallet, with his driver's license inside. We thought it would be simple fix of just switching my name over as the driver. The rental car company informed us that we would need to make all changes through Hotwire. So we called and were disconnected 4 times. After 3 hours of being on hold and getting disconnected repeatedly, we finally got through and were informed that because it was a hot rate, there were not changes or refunds allowed. We informed them that we didn't want a change or a refund, but rather needed to change the driver's name due to our circumstance. They informed us that this was impossible.
Upon asking to speak with a manager, we were told that that was not being done right now and that there was nothing they could do. So we lost $570 because of a wallet getting lost. We had to rent a car from another company and spend an additional $450 that we were not intending to spend. I will not be using Hotwire again, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I said "no, Friday March 20th." She asked again "March 28th?" I responded "No, March 20th. Two zero! March 20". She came back and said you have no reservation for March 28th! I said "It is not for March 28th! It is for March 20th!" She said, "It's not refundable!" I said, "Well it better be! The President of the USA told us not to travel". She told me not to worry. She would make a call and and try to cancel the reservation and call me back in 5-10 minutes.
That was 3 hours ago. So I called back and got a message stating they had Technical difficulties and were not answering phone calls! We had planned to travel to Kirkland, WA for our granddaughter's birthday, arriving in Seattle on 3/13/20. I had made hotel reservations with Country Inn & Suites in both Bothell, WA and at at the airport. The Bothell hotel reservation I had made through Orbitz. In addition, I had airline reservations with Southwest and Alaska Air, and an airport parking reservation. Everything was prepaid (i.e nonrefundable).
Because of Covid-19, were were told that we should not travel to that area because of the pandemic. The city is basically shut down. Schools are closed, big companies are having employees work from home, etc. I contacted everyone that I had a reservation with (including Orbitz), and they were all wonderful, except for Hotwire, who said that they were sticking with their policy of no refunds. They would not even offer a credit. I contacted Thrifty directly who said that it was not a problem cancelling the reservation, but that it had to be done through Hotwire. I informed Hotwire of this, but they could care less. While I have travel insurance, it does not cover this trip because it was not a "cancel for any reason policy". If you read a majority of the complaints filed here and with the BBB, most of them are about the "Hot Rate" deals... A majority of people complain of being misled, and when asking for help or guidance, are told "Our Hot Rate rentals are deeply discounted, and as such, are booked as final and non-refundable... We obtain deeply discounted rates in exchange for guaranteed reservations. If our partners can be absolutely confident reservations will be used as sold, they are willing to offer reduced rates." - this is a direct quote from a complaint written 2/14/20. The reply was written 2/24/20 by Bianca V. Customer Care Relations, Hotwire Corporate Office
Now I will explain how they are misleading guests and hiding behind that fact that we as consumers are so excited for a deal, and that we are naive in trusting a "reputable" company... I travel often and usually use other sites to book. In fact, I had already booked a car rental on another site for $29/day. I am renting for a week and their price was $231.60 + tax of $65.66 for a total of $297.26. Upon finishing this booking, a pop-up from hotwire.com shows up claiming that they could rent me the same car at $19/day... WOW, I thought! This is amazing... Given that the taxes I paid already were 28.35%, this should have put the car rental at roughly $196... Honestly, I was so excited, I didn't even look at the final price or read the terms and conditions... which I am sure they bank on...
I clicked through everything, and paid for my reservation... Final cost....$277.55($149.10 as base rate + $128.45 tax). $20 cheaper than my initial reservation through company B... Then I went to sleep and thought about this... How did my tax rate become 86.15%? If hotwire.com is getting these rates from the rental companies "in exchange for guaranteed reservations," shouldn't the paying customer benefit from the "rates?" Answer is..we as paying customers do not... hotwire.com keeps it!!! THERE IS NO BENEFIT FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMER... BEWARE!!!!
I tried to call and ask why I was paying more in taxes... The answer I got was that there different regulations... Blah blah blah,... Taxes are GOVERNED by the GOVERNMENT. They do not change by almost 60%. The service agent on the phone said there was nothing that can be done because sales are final... I wanted an answer, so I asked to speak to her supervisor...who also told me that there was nothing that can be done. I am in the business of customer service... there is always something that can be done to make your PAYING CUSTOMERS happy and want to return and do more business. Further...to prove this again...I looked up the same car, from the same rental agency for the same dates on their retail version.... Ready for this... Car = $234.88 Tax = $66.22 for a total of $301.10... Again the tax is 28%.

BEWARE OF PREDATORY PRACTICES!!! I have used Hotwire.com in the past to book hotel stays for me and my family in the past and have noticed a pattern that has increased over the years that only seems to be getting worst. Hotwire.com has two types of offerings for hotel bookings on their website. One is the typical booking that one would expect from other online hotel booking brokers where one books the hotel knowing which hotel one is getting and another method where, for a slight savings, one can book a hotel without knowing which hotel one gets but know the general region one will be staying in. I have historically booked with only the latter method.
In the past, when someone booked through the anonymous method one clearly knew what one could expect to pay as the price one paid was inclusive of the stay, apart from incidental fees like room service or additional services one could elect post arrival. Lately, however, more and more of these bookings have fine print pricing details where they state that the hotel carries an additional "resort fee" that is charged by the hotel upon check-in. These fees began modestly and have escalated to the point where they are as expensive or even more expensive than the actual price paid to Hotwire.com.
Some would argue that this is far from predatory given the transparency, albeit small print, when one books through Hotwire.com, and I would agree. The fees are an outrage but are far from inexcusable given that one can elect or not elect to book with these hotels. However, the latest unscrupulous business practice that is clearly predatory is what is NOT stated when one books through Hotwire.com. Now one is also expected to pay exorbitant resort fees that often exceed the original price of the hotel AND be met with additional fees that are NOT stated when one agrees to book an anonymous hotel that carries the condition that the booking is non-negotiable and can not be cancelled.
Personal example: I recently booked three nights at the Grand Orlando Resort at Celebration 2900 Parkway Blvd, Kissimmee, FL 34747. The advertised price for the anonymous method (I was not aware of the name of the hotel prior to my booking it) is: $39 a night. The small print "resort fee" price that was posted prior to booking is: $28. In total my booking price inclusive of Hotwire.com's price as well as the resort fee for three nights is: $226.95 (a far cry from $117 would expect if they don't read the fine print). When I called the hotel I was told that I would also be charged a $15 per night parking fee. That is $45 in addition to the $84 tack onto the price advertised. This is a predatory practice that hid behind a complete lack of transparency through Hotwire.com.
When I called Hotwire.com to complain and state that the existence of this additional charge was not only predatory but also constituted a breach of contract, I was told that all sales are final and that there would be no cancellations. I will NOT ever do business with Hotwire.com and I would advise anyone that values their money and believes that businesses should follow basic ethical practices to avoid this site at all cost.

The door was UNLOCKED when we went to the room. As we tried to lock it it wouldn't lock. The lock was loose and jiggly, and we had to adjust the door to get it to lock.
As soon as we walked in, there is a shabby little sink there, and a cheap little wall separating that bath area from the rest of the room. The alarm clock was 25 years old, a cheap plastic thing, and even though it was plugged in it didn't work. There was ONE cheap little plastic lamp. There was a table with a chair, and a tiny TV way over in the corner. The remote had teeth marks in it as though a dog chewed on it like a bone. The smoke ALARM WAS dismantled, and the top part was laying on a shelf in the room. Like they forgot to put the batteries in, THAT ALONE was enough for a fire hazard. It smelled really bad, and the shower had a squishy feel when you stepped in.
When I called the manager the next day and told him, after I spoke with Hotwire, he got very defensive, and said "Call them, you're not getting a refund"....meaning call the fire dept. after I told him about the smoke alarm. That is ridiculous how disrespectful these people are. I reserved a car from Hotwire. They blindside people with hiding the company the car is going to be rented, they tell You after you pay it is going be a company where nobody wants to rent a car because they that bad. I decided to give a shot....my pick up time 8pm, I show up on time in the office and found people in line unhappy with the agency waiting for hours to be helped, one of the agents were playing on the phone. The second one was arguing with clients. Fun!
After two hours of waiting finally was my turn. The guy who played on the phone hand me headphones and ask me to talk to the virtual agent. I refused since I saw about 15 people wearing those headphones and no one time anybody cleans it up. The agent who was rude to other people asks me if he can help me Ha! Finally! He offered extra insurance. My answer no thank You I have my own insurance, he asks if I want to pay for gas in advance I said no thank You. The guy got unhappy, "Don't you want to save more money?" No thank You...He said, "Please sign the 6 forms on the computer," ok I start reading before sign in and he got upset again he said, "Ma'am You don't need read that. Just sign it so we don't waste more time." I told him I read before sign anything, he said I'm rude woman and I'm wasting his time when he is ready to go home. It was 10pm. They were closing 11:30 pm.
I already was there waiting more than 2 hours, decided say nothing, signed the form without reading then they turned off the light. It got dark in the office and the agent hand me the contract and ask me to sign the one also, I told him I don't see anything you turned off the light, they start making very rude comments about me taking their time, etc but they turned the light back and let me sign the documents then my agent throw the keys on the desk and he said, "That's your keys." "Which car is mine?" I asked and his answer was going outside and look for it, press the key, any car will light up is yours.
They lock the door behind us and left the office before we found the car. Car was soaking wet and dirty. After driving it home I realized the car is a danger to drive if You go faster than 40 miles/h it will shake horribly. On the morning I saw the car have some damages on the back. Also are very, very dirty outside and inside, that is so bad! Never ever recommend this company nor hotwire who is so slow to help or resolve the problem. Second experience, I booked a convertible because weather was predicted to be warm but now it's very cold. Asked them to cancel that so I could Rebook a normal car. I went on cheap car rentals to see if I could find a better deal (72 hours before my trip) and I found one with Hotwire and it was cheaper "Hot Car Rate" which you can't cancel if you book... I called the other company and canceled but they said I could that it was finally when I booked which I didn't recall that. I contacted Hotwire 5 minutes after booking to ask for compassion, the person was very kind and he said he would check with his other department and put me on hold, before he put me on hold he said he doesn't think the answer would change.
He came back on and said the couldn't do anything that it was final because it was a Hot rate and I said I fully understand it was my fault but that I was looking for compassion from a multi billion dollar company that my $217 wasn't going to break them, but it was me plus the other $270 I have to pay and he said that if they cancel they will get the same message and there is nothing they can do. I said there is always something you can do for customer service, like take 1/2 off or 1/3 off something to show compassion and he said he couldn't. This is one of those companies that has everything outsourced so if you have any issue you have to speak to someone in India just to have them tell you to go ** yourself...So I made two huge mistakes - the first was booking with Hotwire, the second was grabbing my state ID card instead of my drivers license when I was running out the door to catch my flight (I had just purchased a new wallet), ANYWAY, I arrived at the Minneapolis Hertz location and they understandably would not rent to me because I had a state ID with me instead of my license - they needed HOTWIRE authorization to either refund me OR to change the reservation to be under my girlfriend's name. MORE THAN AN HOUR ON THE PHONE WITH HOTWIRE'S *HORRIBLE* CUSTOMER SERVICE - and they did NOTHING. It was an unusual circumstance and they did not care at all about finding any resolution.
The answer was basically that they had my money and nothing was refundable or transferable and to go screw myself. Luckily there was ONE LAST CAR available at another rental company - so thankfully we weren't stranded at the airport the day after Christmas, but between Hotwire/Expedia ripping me off for the reservation and the last minute cost of the other rental, it ruined our trip. I've emailed Hotwire support with my Itinerary number in the SUBJECT line and got what may have been an automated reply asking me for an itinerary number. I responded and of course did not hear back.
It is amazing to me that I paid in full for a rental car - HERTZ apparently never saw any of that money - and because of the issue Hotwire sees itself as justified in just taking my money and not providing any service? The fact that they weren't willing to help me in any way was (and still is) really upsetting. I'll be on a full campaign to get my money back - if they want to rip me off they should at least have to work for it.

After a 7 hour drive from VA, checking in approximately 9:30pm... At the Fairfield Inn, there were multiple body hairs in the sheets. I called the front desk to ask housekeeping for a sheet change. The night auditor, Ron said he was the only one present and to give him a moment. He came with balled up sheets in hand, to give to me. He told me I would have to change the sheets because he had to get back to the front desk. I, again, asked for housekeeping, and he stated he was the only person at the hotel. I pause for what felt like 5 minutes, questioning myself if he was serious. He was...
Called Hotwire, called was disconnected, then called back to request a supervisor. Supervisor, Rara, offered a transfer or a continued stay with a refund. I chose a transfer to another hotel. Rara selected another "Hot Deal" that was "comparable" to the HYATT, as the last person received the HYATT. Wouldn't my luck have it, my hot deal ended up being the Comfort Hotel and Suites! (THIS IS NO COMPARISON TO THE HYATT)... I had the same issue with this hotel (hair in sheets, but fewer). However, the front desk staff was more than willing to change the sheets though he wasn't housekeeping. I called Hotwire to inform them of my unfortunate luck with this hotel that's comparable to the HYATT.
Supervisor, Ree, apologized and made 3 offers (rebooking, transfer, 20% hotwire credit/$30)... Which was laughable, because at this point it's 11:54pm and my husband and I had been up since about 5am. Since our sleep and inconveniences do not matter, I told Ree I'd opt for a 4th option that she could not offer me... A Better Business Review for misrepresentation of comparable hotels and to NEVER use Hotwire again... I understand Hot Deals because I've booked some great ones in the past. However, this is beyond pathetic for Hotwire's inconvenience accommodations and how they compare hotels (Comfort Inn = HYATT).

So you rent a car on Hotwire. You preen through all the choices and you as a consumer have a good reason to select a car, not just say, "Give me anything and I will pay." WELL surprise. This IS THE NEW Hotwire WAY. You rent the car you think you are getting and when you go to the rental agency, they give you something totally different. When you say, "It's not the car I booked", or, "I dont want this car," they say, "Too bad. This is all there is so you HAVE to take it." It could be really tiny and your 6 friends wont fit in it,, or it could be a huge gas guzzler and just you in it. Too bad. That's the deal HotWIRE makes with the car rental agents.
I wrote customer service with Hotwire and they explained in detail – because a consumer can cancel the car rental or have flexibility, in turn Hotwire agrees to not make a real booking of the car you wanted. But rather, you the consumer are at the mercy of what is at the rental car agency. So, IF you appreciate customer service and being treated like your hard earned money and choices ARE appreciated, HOTWIRE is not for you.

Despite notifying the front desk immediately that we would soon be impaled by glass shards the size of a small iceberg, no action was taken. Moving into the bathroom, one could easily feel the warm dampness of mildew cutting the airwaves.
Looking at the placement of the toilet, wedged firmly in the corner, if you are 6 foot or taller, be prepared to do your best yoga stretches before entering. Nothing spells comfort than performing a diagonal poo since your legs will never fit in the space provided. Your partner will love you for it as the angle makes for a good take on the "Reverse Kanga"! As you contort your body into a pretzel-like position, be sure to take in the views. From counting the rings of dirt on the bathtub, I would have to gauge that the bath is approx. 35 years old. The unusual placement of the towel rack above the toilet bowl only adds to the excitement when standing from your contorted pretzel pooping position. If you are lucky like I was, the poop wasn't the only thing to hit the side of the bowl.
If you are into cramped hotel spaces, possibly a cardboard box may suit you better than this overpriced, overrated, rundown hotel. Yes, they got me with the small print, but this is not good customer service, not ethical, and is the sneaky opposite of full and honest disclosure.

Never was there a Kia sorrento in the description. On top of that he wanted to charge me $80 extra a day plus I was charged a deposit which I never have been charged. I contacted Hotwire about the situation. Customer rep asked me the same question over and over through the whole chat. Customer service rep seemed like they wanted to get off the chat already, no knowledge and tells me they the rental company gives whatever is available. When we got to the hotel there was one car in the parking lot and hotel was closed!!! Knocked on locked front door and the security guard came to the door to say hotel closed for remodeling and that they had been telling Hotwire.com for months!!! Called hotel's customer service, she put me on hold to call hotel, while I’m standing there with security going. He tells her same thing!! She tells me she will try to find us a room, but I knew she wouldn’t, it’s a small college town that gets booked up months in advance. We drove 1000 miles to get there and no room!! Then she has the nerve to tell me she won’t charge me a cancellation fee and she’ll give me back my money!!!! Never, ever again.

I was researching renting a SUV in San Jose Costa Rica. I had been looking/watching rates for a month. The airport code is SJO. When I entered that code, SJO, on Lowfare.com one of the sites it took me to was Hotwire. Unknown to me that site changed the code to SJC = San Jose California. I booked a car, when I reviewed my booking I noticed the error. I called Hotwire within 10 minutes of the booking and the refused to refund my money citing that I had booked on a Hot Rate program. I didn't notice that but they didn't care that their site changed the location. Why did it do that? Because Hotwire doesn't have a Hot Rate program in Costa Rica. No money back but they credited my Hotwire account - which I did not have, but had to establish. Never use this site!!

They apparently "confirmed" my booking for the last leg of my return trip. But when I went to check in with the airline, they mentioned flight does not actually exist. I ended up being stranded in Vancouver and having to book a new flight altogether. Their customer service will not help you, nor will you be getting a refund for a flight that does not technically exist. Buyer beware!

I am still fighting with the rental car company to reverse incorrect charges and I had to pay extra for a last minute hotel and hotwire refuses to refund the difference because I didn't ask permission first. I only had a couple of available options and I selected the least expensive one. It was only $20 more. I booked a car rental for a family vacation a few weeks out from trip. Realizing the next day logistically we would need to get the car at a different time from a different place I called to try and cancel or move the car. I called customer service to change or cancel my booking but was told because it was a “hot rate” they said there was nothing they could do about it. It was my first experience using Hotwire. From my initial Google search, to booking the car did I see anything that said “hot rate deals” were final and unrefundable.
After speaking to customer service I had to search the website twice before seeing the smallest disclosure on the absolute last step of the booking process about it being non-refundable. If I had seen any mention of this before booking my trip I would not have gone through with the booking. The disclosure was not even able to be viewed until the payment portion of the booking process. I believe this is a lack of transparency and misleads customers like myself. Original Review: I recommend not purchasing car rental from Hotwire. Made reservations in advance. Plane was diverted do to anti lock brakes not working correctly. Van for 7 people flying to San Antonio for Air Force graduation. Called Hotwire as soon as we found out in the morning to let them know we would not be able to get to Thrifty by 1:30 pm it would be more around 7:00pm. Hotwire told us we had to cancel reservation because they only hold the cars for 1/2 hour. Tried to make new reservation and then it went from approx 350 to over 1000 dollars. Called Thrifty and Hotwire many times. Hotwire told us we should not have "cancelled" the reservation. The cars are held for 24 hours. So Hotwire screwed us royal. Would not do a thing because it was cancelled. The rep told us we had to cancel! Completely disgusted! Husband got off plane in San Antonio and ended up renting a van for 759 dollars.

My husband and I booked a hotel via Hotwire for our stay in Rome, Italy. Before we booked, we made sure our hotel choice amenities included Complimentary FREE internet. Beforehand, we made sure this was something our hotel had regardless of the area we stayed in since in Europe a lot of places don’t offer free WiFi just like that. When we booked, it states that one of the three hotels we would get would have Complimentary FREE internet. But when we arrive at our hotel they actually told us they charge 10€ per night for internet AND we can ONLY use it in the lobby and not in our rooms. We were immediately upset because we chose specifically a hotel that had Complimentary FREE internet as advertised on Hotwire.
We immediately email Hotwire the next day of course, in the lobby after having paid to use the internet. We check on our booking (the confirmation email you get after you’ve booked) and towards the end it stated that the hotel offers Internet Access and NOT Complimentary FREE internet like what was advertised on Hotwire PRIOR to and DURING booking. Basically this is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. How can you say we will get one of the three hotels listed and the amenities that it will have is complimentary FREE internet and then it doesn’t???
We then get an email THREE WEEKS after from customer care team saying that we have to call so any of the “travel specialist” can resolve our inquiry. We then call, after we’ve already emailed them in detail our situation with screenshots so they could process a refund for false advertisement. We then call and one of the customer care team members say the research team didn’t provide any details on our account so he couldn’t help us.
We get transferred to a supervisor upon request and they state what the team member said was correct but that because of their process (that was NOT mentioned to us in the email, which it should have!) all we have to do is email that customer care team member stating that we spoke to a supervisor so then the research team could look into it. Mind you this was going to take another 3-5 business days (so now it’s been over a month since this first happened and we’re still dealing with this) for them to get back to us for a response.
The same customer care team member gets back to us seven days later stating that they could not process a refund because it was our fault. Our fault that they advertised that our hotel was going to have Complimentary FREE internet and it didn’t. We spoke to the supervisor just now and she basically said that she could do nothing about it and that the research team already said no. Even though Hotwire lied. We will NEVER EVER use Hotwire again. They have lost us as a customer. Please pay a little extra and get yourself an Airbnb or spend your money on a hotel you actually like and will provide all the amenities it says it will. We never experienced this with Hotwire but we do not appreciate FALSE ADVERTISEMENT.

Hotwire is mostly a ripoff. First of all, it is nothing more than the run-of-the-mill database on available hotel rooms, excempting that they claim to offer "hot" deals. As another reviewer pointed out, you could deal directly with the hotel and get the same kind of deal. I doubt that that is true 100% of the time; however, I can vouch from personal experience that the assertion does have some validity, as I had checked out a room rate directly with a hotel and found that it was nearly identical to Hotwire. The big difference is that I had more leverage to change or cancel a reservation with the hotel itself--despite Hotwire's insurance protection (which is $15 of uselessness).
Secondly, you get stuck paying for a room with Hotwire, even if your plans change, just because they claim to lock in on a low rate and lock in on a transaction with the hotel. You could definitely negotiate yourself without Hotwire while maintaining the option to make changes. Third, the idea that hotels need to sell out with the aid of these online digital travel agents is not as black and white as some might suppose. I booked a room for Thanksgiving almost two months in advance. Those plans changed almost instantly. It would actually have been better for the hotel to accept a reservation cancellation, as they would easily have been able to relist the room and get more money during peak season. So hotels can sometimes lose money from these sites.
On these occasions they are like parasitic leeches, exploiting the concept of supply and demand, much in the same way that ticket scalpers do for concert venues. Obviously, if someone needed to book a last-minute hotel, then having any occupant is better than none. But there is no recourse for those needing to change or cancel reservations over a month in advance, which would allow plenty of time for relisting. Finally, Hotwire presents the "hot deals" in a customer-blind offer, meaning they won't disclose the room--or even the hotel--until you've already booked and are potentially out of luck financially. I suspect this is done to prevent people from quickly researching those hotels and taking their business elsewhere.
As you can see from other negative reviews, you don't always get what you want--or even think you are getting; and when you do get what you want it's either luck or the graciousness/availability of the hotel itself. As an additional note, I'd like to refute some of the positive reviews. Just because some folks needed a last-minute room and got one through Hotwire does not make them a good vendor. In fact, with a little bit of internet research anyone can accomplish the same thing by using online maps and search engines and then booking directly with the hotels.
Also, just because some people had great experiences on their trips does not mean that Hotwire provided those happy memories. The hotels provide that service. Hotwire is an unnecessary intermediary. So, unless you are absolutely desperate and running out of time, go elsewhere. If you are desperate and need to use Hotwire... then I wish you the best of luck. You'll need it.

When I would call Hotwire, I would be put on hold for extensive periods of time while they called the Hilton, spoke to Hotwire reservationists, etc. They would then ask me to call back in two days to allow time for Hilton to receive the resubmission of the reservation.
After two more days, same answer...Hilton had no record. I finally called Hotwire and asked to speak with a supervisor. Ultimately, after confirming that Hilton did not have our reservation, the Hotwire supervisor offered us either a refund or to book us in a comparable hotel for the $88 price. That was a no brainer for me! She booked us at the Marriot Long Wharf and Hotwire paid the difference between the current Hot Deal Rate at the Long Wharf and what we had paid for the Hilton. We stayed there last night with no issues at check-in. The hotel was awesome and completely as promised. Although it was a pain and time consuming to get this straight, we ultimately got an amazing deal and Hotwire made it right. I would so this again.

The Townhouse Inn in High Point NC was shockingly different than how Hotwire and the property represented itself online. There were holes in the doors and walls where someone had clearly punched them. The carpet was damp. The wallpaper was peeling. There were cigarette holes burned in the carpet, bedspread, and tub. The bathroom door had clearly been torn down at one time. The lampshade had a hole in it. Paint was peeling as well as wallpaper. The bedding was stained, the office chair had white stains on it. This property was disgusting. There was a sign in the lobby prohibiting visitors... presumably drugs/prostitution must be a problem there. The property was in an unsafe part of town and surrounded by razor wire. Neither Hotwire nor the property will take responsibility for this misrepresentation. I will never use Hotwire again!

Hotwire's third-party customer support team was stating they couldn't reach the excursion operators to verify they didn't pick up/service customers at my resort. When I asked Hotwire. Why would they offer me excursions from operators that don't pick up/service the resort I was scheduled to stay at? Do they verify the excursion operators before offering them to customers on Hotwire's website? Hotwire never answered. I reserved the resort on Hotwire's website. I booked a car and called an agent to simply change the name on the res. They told me they couldn't do that and that I had to cancel and rebook. I didn't want to do that because I knew it would be more expensive but the agent looked it up and told me the total cost was actually less than what I booked it for. So the agent cancelled the reservation and rebooked. I then received the confirmation and the res. was completely incorrect even though I was just asking for the exact same reservation with a different name.
I was on hold for over an hour and finally spoke to a supervisor. I asked her if I could rebook honoring the original price or just honor the original reservation (seems fair, right?) and she said all we can do is train the agent to be better. She said we can rebook but the total is over $100 more than what you booked it for. In summary, the agent messed everything up so I paid way more than I should have and wasted an hour and a half of my time. Customer Service Rating: 0 stars.

I didn't book with them because I did read the policy and since I don't like surprises, I elected not to book a car with them. The price they quote for a rental is a 'base' price and is paid directly to them at the time of booking. When you return the car, all of the taxes and whatever other fees are due. I checked their base price against Costco (who I usually rent through); Hotwire was higher. Once booked, nothing can be changed or cancelled and since life is uncertain, losing money isn't high on my list of favorite things. :-) Just do your homework with Hotwire and elsewhere before signing on the dotted line.

At this point it was a matter of safety. So then, I called Hotwire and explained the situation. Hotwire called the rental first, verified my story and told me to go ahead and upgrade to what the rental have available and they will reimburse the difference.
Fast forward after my rental, I emailed the receipt like I was told, and got no reply for the first time. I called Hotwire again, and I was told they did not receive the receipt. Then I sent it again, it took them another week or so to review it (by then it was almost a month), and they replied telling me they would not reimburse the difference because I booked a special deal.

"oh sorry, now it's sold out" in the three minutes it took me to fill in my payment information. I kept trying with this "great deal" thinking every time I saw it pop up again, they had decided to release more rooms. Little did I know, it was authorizing my card each time, even though saying NO to the room. They give a $10 promo code for signing up. It doesn't just transfer into your account, you have to enter it. It's impossible to select and copy, so you have to enter it manually. It's about 20 digits long. That’s just annoying. I'm sure most people don't bother. Just give the discount or don't but don't make it extremely hard to use.
After all my trouble, they gave me a $15 credit. It's gone now after another bogus attempt at a room that they are advertising OVER AND OVER again, and then saying not available. If I didn't get the room, my credit should still be there, but of course it's not. This company is a joke. I believe they are doing a bait and switch. Every time I "lose" the room I'm after, the new search it takes me to has much more expensive "hot deals." I talked to them many times and no real explanation was given as to why there is a listing coming up repeatedly that then says unavailable when you try to buy it. Also no real explanation for WHY they should be authorizing a card amount in ANY way for a room you're NOT selling me. I know the authorizations will drop off, but it's still disconcerting. It's been a bad experience in every way to the point I'm afraid to trust them with my money or vacation.

We made a reservation for a hotel in Wilkes-Barre PA on June 13th. Our card was charged and we received a confirmation email. Our booking was for Aug 16-19. On Aug 14, Hotwire even sent me an email reminding me of our reservation. We arrived Aug 16th and Hotwire had NEVER made the reservation for us at the hotel!!!! After hours and hours on the phone, they first sent us to a hotel I said I did NOT want to go to because of horrific reviews. We went anyway and it was a horror show. Mould in vents and on walls, spotty electricity, toilets and bathtub filthy, and sheets covered in blood and piss stains. Hotwire refused to book us somewhere nicer because they would not book us at a hotel rated more highly despite leaving us stranded 500 miles from home on a Friday night at 10pm.
They finally refunded me and credit me with $25 Hot Dollars to spend on their stupid site as if I would ever want to book through them again. In fact, their mistake ended up costing us an extra $110 - having to find a hotel to book on our own (with NO HELP from them) for that night plus finding alternate accommodation (an Airbnb) for the rest of the time we were in NEPA. $25 Stupid Hot Dollars is not the way to apologize for this level of mistake. This company doesn't provide the service it exists to provide and also has no concept of how to apologize and compensate when they have left people stranded. Instead they left us stressed and seriously out of pocket.

The rep told me she couldn't refund my money because this was a "Hot Rate" hotel booking and they don't offer refunds on those bookings. I explained that I understood the rule, but this was not a cancellation because "I changed my mind." The information that was presented to me was FALSE! I said Hotwire's website CLEARLY STATED that the hotel was 1.1 miles away from my destination and that was the only reason I booked a 3 star hotel that cost me $200 CAD.
The rep told me that the 1.1 miles represents a straight line distance, NOT and address-to-address distance and because the service is a blind booking they can't give precise distances. I explained that I understood that, but 1.1 miles and 8.33 miles (12 km) is quite a big difference. She refused to help me. I asked to speak to a manager. After explaining the situation to the manager and telling her that I felt like I had been tricked/taken advantage of she explained the same thing the rep did. I got pretty upset at this point. I said, "Listen, Hotwire is a huge company and they falsely advertised information on their website. I know that you know that's not right. I know that you know that they are being sneaky by listing distances by how the crow flies rather than address-to-address when they clearly have the information. I need you to make this right. Either book me in a closer hotel or refund my money. What was represented to me was a lie."
The manager proceeded to tell me about the "Hot Rate" hotel policy and that they would NOT be issuing a refund. I told her that I was really disappointed in their customer service and the fact that she made no effort to correct the misrepresentation. She told me that WE (meaning Hotwire) stand by our decision. So here I am on a Friday night writing a bad review for a company that treated me poorly. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I feel compelled to because what this company did was wrong. I have worked in customer service for 30+ years. I can handle it if mistakes are made, service is slow, employees were less than ideal. I don't like it, but I can handle it. What I can't handle is when a company (especially one as large as this) and its employees do something wrong and won't make it right.
No apology. No “We'll credit you a portion back so that you can taxi to your event since we made a mistake on our website.” No “We'll give you a voucher for your next stay with us.” Nothing!!! Just…”Yes, we know what did was wrong, we're happy we have your money and we stand by our decision to take advantage of you.” I will NEVER use this company for travel bookings again. I hope you won't either. PLEASE SHARE.

I booked a car rental this morning and selected the Phoenix Mesa airport when searching for rates. I found a great rate and booked it. When I received the confirmation it showed Sky Harbor airport which is not what I selected. When I called, less than 5 minutes after booking, I was told I could transfer to the Phoenix Mesa airport for 4 times the cost of what I thought I was booking at Sky Harbor. When I complained of this bait and switch the rep, Alejiah, admitted that they do this to offer rates at surrounding locations. You should not have to check your pickup location once you clearly request where you want to pick it up. Horrible company with deceptive practices. I

I used the "Hot Rate" feature to pick a hotel on my recent trip to Washington, DC. I was staying in the Georgetown area, so of course, it didn't matter which hotel they gave me, they were all going to be nice, right? It said I would have one of the 3 hotels shown - one I had never seen or stayed at before, but I was okay with that. After all, it's Georgetown.
I happen to get the one I had never seen before. Great! I've stayed at almost all of them over the last 10 years; it was going to be an adventure! I arrive and when I walk in there is a jackhammer noise to my right. You couldn't hear anything! I look over and they're smashing out a wall. It was a rainy day in the DC area and inside the hotel was humid. They inform me they do not have a restaurant yet as they are under renovation (so much for that promised restaurant, Hotwire). Yellow tape prevented anyone from walking in and out each doorway, tools were spread along the lobby floor and 6 workers in construction gear were carrying wood. They assured me that even though they didn't have a restaurant they would have "snacks" (these were later set out as crackers (saltines) and water. Yum). I go to my room and the walls are dripping with water. The bed is wet. Everything is wet with condensation.
I call downstairs and they apologize and tell me it's because of their "old pipes". I lay down to rest. I had come to DC due to a doctor's appointment at GWU Hospital and I have been seeing a specialist there for many years. This experience was one I had never had before. I couldn't even rest on the wet bed. The place smelled of mold. I request a new room. They said they will come up and bring fans to try to make it dry. Two hours later: now, it's cold and still wet. I request a different room again. Upon relocating down the hall, a man walks around the corner, nude, holding a plate against his male anatomy. Now, I'm confused and I don't know what's happening. The new room is dry and I'm thankful. I was then informed this was an old dorm own by the university that was being converted into a hotel. I tell myself it can't get worse.
I may be starving at this point and needing to find a place to eat now, but at least my new room is dry. Next morning, continental breakfast time!! A cafeteria tray with bottled water on it and mini muffins from Costco on a folding table by the table saw. Yum. Is this real life? Keep in mind, in Georgetown, hotels are usually not under $250-$350 a night. A good night would be $175 and those are veryyy verryy rare. This trip is already a disaster and not up to standards to the rate I paid, not even if I paid $100 would this be okay. I get into an argument at this point at the front desk about the fact my shower isn't working. I feel comforted by the Swede who is extremely upset about getting stuck in the elevator and letting them know all about it. I'll refrain from the rat story, but I had no idea they could grow up to almost a foot long!
At this point, I'm going to call HOTWIRE. The ones who gave me this "hot deal". I tell them this entire hotel is under construction. They act like they don't believe me. So, then they say they have to call the hotel to "confirm". Okay, go ahead, I'll wait. The customer service rep comes back and tells me 'yes, they confirmed the hotel is under construction'. Really? I had no idea. THEN, tells me that they cannot refund my money because I had already spent one night there. I request for them to put me at a different hotel. They tell me they're all booked. So, were they all booked yesterday, too? Would I have even been able to change had I called? Then this guy tells me he would give me $50 my next hotel room. How is that going to help the current situation? At this point I hang up, leave the hotel and spend my day outside now that it's sunny. It's just a hotel, right? A place to lay my head at night (as long as it's dry).
I go to book my next trip with this $50 compensation and it says I can only use it on a HOT DEAL!!! You mean I have to go blind into another possible disaster again?? Get out! HOTWIRE! Seriously? You really did not fix any problem and to even give me a $50 voucher for my next hotel and not tell me it's for a HOT DEAL is ridiculous. You should have found another hotel for me in the DC area (there are hundredsss) and gotten me out of there. Never again.

I booked a hotel through Hotwire and this is my experience. It says in the website 4 star and stuff so I booked the hotel and I paid $187 for this. I went to the hotel. From outside it look like a house first impression then I was trying to open the door door was locked. There was no parking in the front so have to park far and walk. I try to call the hotel no one was answering so I went back and call Hotwire and try to cancel and they said I cannot cancel. It's a nonrefundable booking and they said I should have wait more time in front the hotel and they are open 24 hr and I told them I have my child with me. He is special need. Still they were not willing to give my money back so people booking through this site very careful.
The hotel name is Fashion Boutique Miami South Beach. I will rate this hotel in my opinion 1 star because I stayed 5 star level hotel and Hotwire customer service was very bad too. If it was my fault I will accept but the door was locked and Hotwire people say the front desk people may be in break or something so people go there wait outside to someone to open the door. I never went to to hotel like this. Door is locked.

Booked with another couple. They booked 2 nights. I booked 2 nights. She landed Loews Boston Hotel. It was a definite 4 star. I landed Boston Park Plaza. The hotel may be 4 star but the room ranks below a lower floor cruise cabin. So small no luggage rack, shower was maybe 22 or 24 inches wide 3 feet long. Found gnat type bugs in bathroom. Bed was small. Frames around doors old and painted over peeling paint. Carpet shredding by bathroom. And they charge a 25 nightly resort fee with no extra amenities like bottles water or nice glasses. Nope cheap plastic wrapped glasses. Not sure how they check the rooms. It the secrecy deal for a four star room did not work for me. Could have paid the same price and got a nicer room somewhere else.
