On 5/16/19 went to the Advantage Chicago O'Hare location to pick up RESERVED minivan to move my daughter home from college. Was informed all minivans and larger vehicles had been given out. Was offered a compact car instead. I asked what could be done; was told "They could do nothing" and other rental companies might have a same-day rental minivan. I asked what would happen if I was there with 5 children off a flight for vacation. Told same answer because "They had no minivans; nothing they could do". Staff was not rude just matter of fact. Apparently this is Advantage's normal business practice. Never will I reserve a car from them again- BEWARE.

FORT MYERS, left glasses hanging on visor. Brand new gift from daughter. They were hanging on driver side visor. You could not of missed them. They were never listed in lost and found. Honest people right, wrong. Gas tank was little over 3/4 full. Early morning flight. No one there to shuttle you to airport until 4:45. No way to contact the branch office. Other people waiting in lot had to contact Uber to make their flight. We 6 people waiting frantically for someone to show up. Finally got to the airport by 5 am. Flight leaves at 6 am. This has to be the worst rental service we have ever encountered. Never again will we use Advantage and will be in contact with Priceline for referring this company. Only good thing about this was the man behind the counter was polite.

Save your toll receipts! Watch out for their toll scam! I rented a car from them and specifically told I DID NOT want to use their transponder for tolls. I paid cash for all my tolls specifically because I didn't want to pay $10/day for tolls (which I would get charged for even if I wasn't using tolls that day). I get home and they charged me a $50 "convenience fee" on top of the tolls I already paid cash for. In order to have the toll charges removed they require ME to prove that I paid cash. Now I have to appeal to Florida Dept of Transportation to get that proof. A huge waste of my time! Turns out this is standard practice. Florida DOT was not surprised when I reached out to them.

BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! Advantage Car Rental at Denver International Airport is a bait & switch operation - Fraudulent and not worth your time. Booked car for 7am pickup, company changed my pickup time to 12 noon when I received email itinerary. Advantage refused to fix their mistake, refund my money and wanted $200 more to change time back to what I asked for originally. There it is folks, you were warned!

Lordy, never again! I rented via Expedia because they seemed cheaper. Little did I know they only hired one staff for peak rental times, causing an hour delay in rental. Then she had to pressure me to upgrade to either a Jeep (250 extra for 10 days) or a minivan (110 extra for 10 days). We declined, but I wanted my husband to be a second driver. No mention of the additional 95 USD charge so we didn't know about it until we looked at the rental agreement which they did not review with us. Extra 200 USD deposit in case we brought back the car "excessively sandy" with no definition of what would merit these extra charges. This is a scam company, with fake cheapness and real upcharges. Evil. Don't do it! Rent from a reliable company like Dollar/Thrifty.

I wish I had come here first instead of going to Priceline to rent a car from these jokers. Although the pickup experience was really good in OKC, and the car was really nice with the exception of a few minor scratches which I documented I was told that there was a $200 holding charge on my cc and a small fee of $45 in case I didn't return the car on full. So after using the car for a week and only putting about 150 miles on it I filled the tank and as the car rental place didn't open until 8 am and my flight left at 6:45 I dropped the keys off at their counter as instructed by the night watchman.
I then received an invoice about 4 hours later showing the $200 was refunded back to my cc (they didn't release it to my cc company for a week) but they said I returned the car on empty. After making 4 different calls I finally was able to speak with someone who understood English and helped me file a complaint. Which I was told I would receive an answer in 24 hours. After 3 days I called back again and was told I needed to send them a copy of my receipt for the gas which I did. That was a week ago. I finally called back again today and was told that my receipt was not a valid receipt so my claim was denied. What a great company huh?

Our rental was not ready as promised and agreed to a lesser vehicle as we were in a hurry. Mislead about fuel prices and charged for full tank of gas with no refunds and only used half a tank. Shayonna stated that we would be charged after we returned it for gas prices "20 cents" less than outside of the airport. What a deal, right?! I will never use this company again. Attempted to get clarification without success! I could have spent the extra $60 dollars I was charged and gotten the car I actually rented, at the time I booked at a rental agency that doesn't lie and cheat its customers.

I would give this company zero stars if I could. Worse customer service I have ever seen. I originally booked this reservation and pre-paid on Priceline. When I first got to Advantage I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service and how quickly I was helped. The associate even offered me a free upgrade. I did not have my reading glasses at the time so I couldn't hardly see what I was signing but I specifically stated to the associate that I wanted to decline any additional coverage as I was already covered under my personal insurance. The associate said not a problem, told me where to initial and sign. As he gave me the print out, I asked what the charges were for and he told me that they were just a temporary hold/deposit on my debit card for incidentals and it would fall off my account a few days after I returned the vehicle. Come to find out, that was a lie.
After returning the vehicle, my account was charged $170 the next day. When he said I was signing the damage waiver, which I believed waived my rights to coverage, he was actually getting me to sign an agreement to pay an additional fee of $30/DAY. I attempted calling customer service multiple times with little to no help. They supposedly opened a "complaint ticket" with no follow-up. They also refused multiple requests to let me speak to a manager or supervisor. They essentially told me, "Sorry there is nothing we can do about it." I guess they are perfectly fine scamming their customers out of money. I feel like I was completely taken advantage of and I will never be using this company again.

My first experience renting a car from Advantage (through Priceline) will also certainly be my last. First, I had to wait in line for two hours at the Phoenix airport before being helped because their computer system slowed down. Then, the employee tried talking me into a paid upgrade from my economy car citing that it would not perform well enough for my trip, when I refused because of gas prices, I was finally told that no economy cars were available and I would need to be given an upgrade to a minivan. The upgrade was free, but it cost a lot more in gas which is why I reserved an economy car in the first place.
Finally, I was never notified about the price that I would be ** over gas if I brought it back not full. I was charged $163.24 for 3/4 of a tank of gas. I was never notified that it would cost $8.99 per gallon on return when I picked it up. The employee was arguing with me when I asked about a discount on gas after being forced into a non-economy rental. The customer support over the phone was rude with me when I called to complain. I must say that I feel very taken Advantaged of!

I had no issues with booking, pick up and drop off, all that was great and the staff were very friendly. It wasn't until I read over my drop-off rental record and saw I was charged an extra day when the car was only 26 min late. I called the customer service number and was told I would receive a refund of the two differences - fine. But, not explained what it was for or why I was charged for an extra day and not just the 26 min more. I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor and the call was disconnected.
I called back and spoke to someone else and had the same troubles. I was told that there were no managers on hand for me to speak to, then that one was in a meeting and a call. Then that I'd have to wait for 3 hrs to speak to a manager. I was already frustrated and to top it off, I was then later accused of trying to abuse the system to have the money refunded to me... So naturally, you just become angry when treated like this. Sadly, nothing was solved for me on the call. I wrote an email to the customer service team, but after my experience, I have zero faith that things will be explained or resolved correctly. Next time, I'll go with a company I've actually heard of.

We rented a car through Priceline for $177, unlimited mileage for 5 days in Atlanta. When my wife went to pick up the car she was informed there was a "new policy" calling for a charge of 55 cents per mile for anything over 150 miles. She told the agent at the counter to forget the rental and she moved down to Enterprise where she rented a car in about 5 minutes. Nowhere in the contract did it state that there would be any additional charges for mileage over 150 miles. And, in Atlanta one can easily put 150 miles on a car in just one day. I have a little problem with Priceline in that they did provide any notice of such tactics by Advantage, but Priceline customer service did take care of the last minute cancellation and any charges that the rental car company may have attempted to make.

Advantage Rent-Wreck! Warning!!! This location rent cars without hubcaps! The manager Christian did not care that they offered me a car with NO hubcaps. Then they offered me a second car with one hubcap. I told him that I did not go to Rent-a-Wreck. I thought that I came to a reputable company. He said since it doesn't have a mechanical issue, I would have to select from the two cars without hubcaps. I was very angry since I had already prepaid months ago. Also, the customer service is the worst! I stood in line for an unnecessary long time. They spent approximately 30 minutes with each customer. Perhaps those customers had junky cars too.
I called the number Christian said was the corporate office 800-777-5500. I spoke to Glenn who said they can only take a complaint and send it to the location manager. I told her that Christian is the location manager and he doesn't care at all about accommodating customers. When I asked her for the corporate number, she said they don't have access to that number. Advantage Rent a Car is a rent-wreck place, Stay away from it!

My husband and I rented from Advantage twice and both times they charged us for services we did not agree to. The first time we paid online and when we picked up the car they asked about insurance and prepaid gas. We denied both. When we returned the vehicle and asked for a receipt, they had charged our credit card for insurance and prepaid gas. We had to fight the charges and they reversed it. The second time they charged our credit card for $56 for prepaid gas. We denied the charges but they will not reverse. My husband returned the vehicle a day early and full of gas, yet they charged us $56. They are a company that does not have integrity. They refuse to reverse the charges. I will never rent from them again because they are of of integrity.

As you are being hurried off, the fee also appears on the paper they give you along with 15 other items. I guess you need to wait in line and spend the 10 minutes reading all the details, while all the other people behind you wait until you are done. This happened on April 24th 2019 - I was on a Government Federal Travel - I had to choose lowest compact economy for our travels going to Pentagon, VA from CHS ...I choose American airlines and it was booked through Federal CWT SATO Travel agency for military people... I went to off site shuttle stop at 21:03 PM and they showed up at 22:23 pm because it seems the guy states there was only one driver - does that mean customer has to suffer - Is this the rude and he did not care nor to help at the counter whereas the guy in the gate who was from Afghanistan even they may not like Asian Indians he was highly helpful and good person. God's grace touch wood.
According to BBB - there was several complaints. First we need to call the 407 number. The guy picked up. Must be speaking Spanish. He could not understand a single word - he tells, "Are you talking about Dispute?" then he states, "Are you talking about Business?" He also tells there is no manager - which is total blatant lie - lack of honesty, integrity and ethics, policy of the company.
This kind of issues should not be tolerated ever and treated to DOD customer or President's Cricle. In Hertz never had a complaint, then Enterprise Gold customer... This is the reason to deal with low paid does not give good serivce nor care. There is no number to call either. DCA rental agency nor the President office - we cannot reach at all - there is no one to help on that - so there is no other way other than sending through BBB - hopefully it goes to President's office ADVOCO or so. Would like to discuss in person or on the phone with Executive office locally who can speak English proper and who can understand proper like Scott. It states - similar to that - other person does not understand - they should compensate for all these time, money and circumstances during my office tenure.

Every aspect was an issue.. I had to walk across the airport to an elevator and then across to the other side of the airport where they kept the full size cars. When I got there he gave me paperwork and told me to come back if there was an issue.. The car was all smashed up on the passenger side and I told him I didn't want a car that had been in an accident. He gave me another car and it was diesel so had to go back again and then the 3rd car was ok. Returning the car was once again an extremely long walk to the opposite side of the airport. It's not fun when you have luggage and after traveling you have to deal with stuff like this. Won't use Advantage again!
Oh and I had to go through a toll off the exit because it was not manned by anyone so I called Florida's Turnpike immediately and they told me I could send in the $1.25 so I did right away! She said, "Call your rental car company and let them know." I did and it took me 3 days to get through, when I pressed 2 like it said it hung up. I finally got through to the toll department and she said there is nothing she can do, I will probably get a fine by Advantage... Good and I'm probably damn sure I won't pay it! I'll fight it with my CC company!

A third party booking site that quoted me an attractive two day rate assigned me to Advantage Rent-A-Car. I paid the third party upfront $91 and was told I would only have a $40 local tax charge through Advantage at the LAS airport. The Advantage agent seemed suspicious as there was no greeting when we walked to the counter. I handed him my DL and confirmation. He said they had to put a $200 hold on my card for the rental? and he went through the disclosures in the contract, which I declined any additional coverages. He has me sign and initial several times on a touch pad.
Two days later I checked my credit card and was charged another $141. I immediately contacted Advantage and they said they would review and get back to me. They never responded to me until I called back a month later. They said the reason for 100 overcharge was I signed up for additional vehicle coverage, case closed! Now I will be contacting BBB and their corporate management for the bait & switch.

When it kept going low, I called to tell them and they told me to change the tire, even though I was near a tire repair place. I explained I needed to have it repaired and wanted reimbursed. I got a person who barely spoke English and seemed mentally incompetent. Two days later after repairing the tire it went flat again. I called them AGAIN and they said a manager would decide if I would be reimbursed. No damage was noted on the receipt.
Almost a full month later on 03/25/2019 I was called by Adam ** from a company called Viking Billing Services. I called to resolve and was totally given the runaround, Supervisor informed me that this was beneath her and she could not or would not intervene. Billing was from Highway Toll Administration. This looks like a Florida Gov't agency but turns out to be the billing admin for Advantage with regards to missed tolls. I have asked for digital photo from both agencies to no avail.
Finally reached out to Lee County Toll Admin, the Florida Gov't agency, that allegedly ticketed me. Was emailed back to me that no citation was outstanding for the License plate number on my rental, both Advantage and HTA would not look at or review the email. I am currently disputing this fraud charge. I also will be returning to Florida shortly and have every intention of ramping this matter up. How many people have they done this to. Thanks.

As an “additional driver” I am required to be at least 21 years of age. However at the time of rental I had been 18 and the lady told me to “tell them I lost my license” if they ask for it when I return the car. At first I thought it had simply been a lady trying to help me out but now I feel as if I had been taken advantage of because I was charged an extra $200. The charge had come from being 3 hours late which resulted in a day late charge. The problem is now I’m out of that money and the car had been ILLEGALY rented out under my card. I had not been aware at the time that it was illegal to rent under 21 years of age and was not notified before the transaction had been completed. My security deposit and an additional $25 would have never been taken from my account if I had been properly notified that it was illegal to do such a transaction.
I am NOT happy with this service and furthermore after talking to customer service on the phone I had asked to speak with someone in a higher authority and was repeatedly given an obsolete answer and was never directed to anyone else. After asking the serviceman for his name, I was hung up on. I was also charged an extra $26 for gas when I had put the gas to where we found it in the first place. DO NOT believe the agent that it's more convenient and cheaper to purchase gas from them - NOT!!! Would not recommend and will never rent from them again.

I've rented quite a few cars in the past and decided to give this company a chance because of their pricing. Never again will I rent from them. It is day and night difference compared to some of the top tier rental car companies. Customer service is awful, completely unprofessional, rude and useless. The cars in their fleet or at the least the one that I got was old and dirty. You get what you pay for and the headache of dealing with the broken down car and the horrible customer service was not worth the cost of savings. I would gladly pay the extra money and be dealing with Enterprise or Hertz. Never again, lesson learned the hard way.

I picked up the car at San Diego Airport. In discussion with the desk employee, I had to reiterate that I did not want any insurance coverage; I was covered by my insurance. At the time I was relieved that I made the point forcefully because it appeared he was ready to add insurance. But the real problem was that the employee said the refueling charge was $3.50/gal, which he said was lower than gas prices in the area. He recommended we NOT refuel prior to our return. That sounded too good to be true so we looked at the contract (after having to remove several staples) and the contract refueling charge was $10.99/gal. We found a station within a mile of the drop off with $3.39/gal prices. I think we dodged a bullet! The final bill was accurate and the car was fine so I give 2 stars for my experience rating.

Watch the agents giving you the contract, they fold it in half so you don't see the "extra" charges and divert your attention to the "Car Damage Report". By the time I realized I was scammed I went from a car that cost $19/day to $34/day. When I confronted the agent about the car I did receive, they told me it was in the "same class" but still charged me an extra $10/day. I trusted them and they got one by me, just want to let others know to be careful with these people. Will never use them again!

We rented a car at Denver International Airport. We were in a bit of a rush, and noted SIGNIFICANT hail damage on the roof, hood and trunk, but took the car anyway, marking the damage on the inspection report. In addition, there was a small crack in the windshield. We had many meetings and had to drive from Denver to Fort Collins, then to Colorado Springs. The brakes began to lock up intermittently. By the time it was happening enough to worry us, we were in Colorado Springs. We called Advantage, and they told us to drive it back to Denver International Airport (they only have 1 location in Colorado). We did not have time to do so, and they suggested we get the car fixed and they would reimburse us. It was crazy...we had to drive the car back to DIA to make our flight, and had the same issues. Upon returning the car, we were told that the car should have never been rented to us. AWFUL.

I booked Advantage Rent-A-Car on Priceline.com. Initial price was 9$/day. It sounded perfect since this was last minute and low cost trip to escape cold winter in Midwest for a while. I assumed there would be taxes, some fees so in the end I was quoted about 80$ for 4 days which I was fine with. Later on I decided to change reservation and add a child seat since we were travelling with our kid and did not want to drag car seat with us on plane. Total price quoted: 170$ which was still alright (despite the car seat cost more than the actual car).
When we came to pick the car up, there was a line but it went pretty fast. They told us we had to do collision damage insurance (which was not obligatory online) and our price went up to 250$ + 200$ damage deposit. We weren't happy about that, but after spending there 30+ minutes with fussy baby we decided to go for it. That's what we also saw on the credit card terminal when we were using our credit card (250+200). We should have checked our bill, because reality was different which we realized only when we went to return the car.
When returning car, a guy came to scan our barcode and check the interior quietly saying something about 309$. I asked how come it was 309 when we were said 250. He told us to show him paperwork and there was really 309 despite we were said (and charged as a deposit) 250! My husband decided to go to the counter again, where he waited in long line about 30 minutes and then he got to talk with manager and after very long discussion of about 30+ minutes they agreed to put the price back to 250. To sum up - from 170$ online the price went up to 309$ !!! Almost a double! Never again with Advantage Rent-A-Car.

We rented a car from Advantage in Phoenix and from the start was a very unprofessional experience. We had the car for 6 days starting on 2/4/19. It was a Volkswagen Jetta diesel and the car was ok. The problem we encountered was we washed the car the day before we brought back to the airport so we went above and beyond what is probably typical of renters but also filled up the gas tank at 4:40 am on the way to the airport less than two miles away. Upon dropping off we had to wait for an attendant that finally arrived and I showed them the pre-check list and asked what I needed to do. She didn’t seem to have any clue of how to perform her job and seemed to care less and said just put the keys in the car and we were good to go. My wife and I and also a few other confused customers put the keys in the vehicles and left for our flights.
The next day this company applied the full cost of the rental and also took our complete security deposit out of our account overdrawing our bank account. I called and asked why we didn’t get our security deposit back and they proceeded to tell me that the car was empty upon drop off and charged us $11 per gallon of gas and wouldn’t even explain how it miraculously came to exactly our $200 deposit. Now remember we filled the tank on the way to the airport. The person on the phone was extremely rude and said I had to prove that I had gotten gas. The day I got back from my honeymoon I had to go to the bank and get printed receipts of gas purchase and email to them.
I have yet to hear back anything from anybody at this company in regards to this theft. It has been 24 hours now and am in process of looking into legal counsel. Also the receipt form said that total miles driven were 31. Somehow a full tank of diesel was used only driving 31 miles. Our trip consisted of driving from Phoenix to Sedona to the Grand Canyon and back to Phoenix. Only 31 miles driven through and a full tank of gas missing? We averaged 34-40 miles per gallon. THIS COMPANY STOLE FROM US ON OUR HONEYMOON.

I recently rented a car using a government travel card. The total for 1.5 days was $78. I drove the care less than 11 miles (to my hotel and back only). Had I stopped to refuel the car on my way back to the airport, I would have stopped 4 miles before the airport, so 7 miles out. I chose not to stop and put $0.60 of gas in the car, as it was still on FULL. When I got the bill, which should have been $78, it was $227. $118 of that was for refueling!!! Are you kidding me?? They checked that it was a full take when I dropped it off. They refuse to refund me unless I show proof that I put gas in the car that weekend.
They are also charging me $42 for returning the car late. I dropped the car off at 8:30 am and it was due at 9! I am livid. The gentleman (with limited English skills) in their customer support team I spoke to refused to allow me to speak for his supervisor. I believe they slapped on the extra charges believing this would be charged to the government (YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK), and I would get reimbursed for the extra charges, and everyone would be happy. Well that's clearly not the case, and I am LIVID.

The big problem was: the counter people over sold the importance of the "Fast Track" pass in California. They stressed its importance and used stories of large fines for not paying the tolls. All along, they knew that the pass was basically useless in Las Angeles and was only a slight convenience in the San Francisco Bay area, since all bridges had toll takers. They also upset my wife by ignoring her comments. They did not tell us that we could turn the pass on at a later date as the sticker in the car said, even though I asked a question about that. Altogether It cost $140 + tax for a pass that was not used for 10 days in LA and then used for about $35 worth of bridges in the San Francisco area.
The small problems are: 1. The car exterior was not as clean as expected. Luckily we were not attending a wedding or we would have had to wash it. 2. The drop off location in South San Francisco was on such a small street that we had to use the cross street to find it. In the end we had to stop at their competitor Stix (who had multiple counter people) to get the location. South Canal St, South San Francisco, CA was not in my TomTom GPS. 3. Shuttles are spaced too far apart. We had to wait 20 minutes on the curb in LA watching ever bus and shuttle for fear of missing it. 4. We where going to complain about the Fast Track pass at the drop off location, but the counter staff was so small and slow that we couldn't risk missing the shuttle to the airport. Especially after it took so long to find the drop off location.

I booked a car with Advantage car rental at Orlando airport through Orbitz. When I picked up the car everything went smooth as the gentleman was asking me the typical coverage questions. I told him I wanted the basic/cheapest coverage and none of the extras. He told me to provide a few initials for the collision damage waiver which I was led to believe was to waive the collision damage insurance. Once I gave all my initials I got the key and I was on my way. It was my mistake to not look over the bill.
Upon dropping off the car I noticed that there was a charge for the "collision damage waiver" which was $25 a day. When I asked for the manager and explained to him I felt misled upon getting the car he shut me down immediately and said there was nothing he can do and I will have to file a claim. What's the point of a manager if they aren't willing to attempt to fix an issue. Even though the manager wasn't rude about it he simply didn't do anything to help. For future reference make sure the sales reps completely cover exactly what the customer owes especially when they say they want minimal coverage and no extras. I would not recommend Advantage to anyone.

We rented a car from Advantage at the Phoenix Airport. A process which should have taken 30 minutes at most, took 3 hours by the time we were in the car and on the road. While there were no lines at the other car rental companies, Advantage had a line of at least 6 people waiting. The desk had 5 or 6 stations, but only two people working. As soon as a third employee arrived, one of the others went "on break" and we never saw him again. The person who finally called us up was helpful; the process was extremely slow, however.
We had requested a GPS, and this turned out to be a big problem. They had to go looking for one, and then it took another 45 minutes before he figured out how to set it up. He asked the other person working at the counter for help, which meant that no one was being served. I noticed several people getting out of the line and heading toward the other rental counters. If only we had done the same. The employee had to go downstairs with us to the car, to show us how to install and work the GPS. Again, this meant that there was only one person working at the desk.
When we returned the car after a few days, the signs to Advantage were clear. However, after we parked the car, there was no one to meet us to take the key and the GPS, and no signs to indicate where to go. There were several people wandering around through the garage, and when I finally discovered the Advantage office (not clearly marked), there was a young man sitting at the desk, busy at his smart phone. When I told him that there were several cars waiting, he said that he had not noticed anything. While our reservation summary showed a total of $146.94, we were charged an additional $51 for three days of GPS use, and then a variety of extra charges for $43.05. First off we arrived at 9:30 pm and waited in line for more than an hour and a half because they were telling everyone they had run out of cars.
When we finally get up to the counter they tell us "I'm sorry. We are all out of the mid-size car you reserved but we have a Chevy Suburban SUV available." There were two of us and this was totally not necessary but we said fine since it was 11:00 pm by this point and we're exhausted from a very long flight. THEN they said "Great. We'll go ahead and upgrade you and it will be an additional $25 a day". We said, "No thanks. That's not what we reserved." Then they said - "Oh sorry. You can wait but it will be another 3 hours before we have a compact vehicle in".
We were livid - we have never been to any car rental place where they don't upgrade you if they run out of the car class you booked. We felt like we were literally forced to pay more or be without a car on our trip since everything else was booked up. Yes, you read that right! At this point it has been 2 hours since my flight landed and I just wanted to get on my way. I go downstairs to get my sweet ride, but I can’t start the thing. So the attendant comes to help me and says “oh, you have to hold the button in longer than normal and wait for it to start.” Super! I get on my way and I notice while going down the freeway the steering wheel seems to have some play in it and it’s shaking.
I called customer service the next morning and told them about it and asked if I could get a different car. She said that would be no problem. I went back to the car rental place and dropped the car off. The gentleman that checked me back in said I could just go right over to the little hut in the garage and let them know that I would need a new car. Once I got there, a lady working with a different customer overheard me and very angrily said, "You can’t change cars just because you don’t like the one you got." I did inform her that I was the consumer and I should at least be comfortable with my purchase. She sent me upstairs. Another 45 minute wait, rude counter people and a new order for a different car, I was back downstairs.
This time a new lady, said that I was going to get another diesel. When I informed her that I did not want another diesel, she informed me that she could upgrade me to a minivan. I did not think that was an upgrade so I asked her to cancel my contract and I would go somewhere else. She canceled the contract and charged my card for the time I had the vehicle. I asked what the charge was... $91!!! I said, "You did not just charge my card $91 for having a vehicle for 16 hrs?" She very smugly said, “yep, I did.” I would never recommend this company. I went to Alamo instead. Friendlier and faster service AND I got to pick my own car.

Since this time I have been accused of stealing the car and was charged over $2000 for these false charges. No one will help clear this up at advantage. Here we are in Dec and still no help in sight despite my credit hanging in the balance. Is this fair to consumers to not research all the facts? Look at their cameras, look at the boarding pass I sent in the witnesses I provided. I am in shock and sad that a business can take advantage of people when we have so many other choices.

The worst rent a car company I have seen in my life. I booked a minivan 2 months ahead of my travel from Dallas to Atlanta to pick up from Atlanta International Airport. We were there to attend a wedding, as were another set of people, and so was a family with a little girl in a wheelchair, and a few others. We waited 3 hours, and then cancelled and took a minivan with another company. Not sure how long the others waited. They would not work with anyone, we asked if they could give 2 cars instead of a minivan, and they said it was against their policy. We had an accident which was our fault (no injuries but damage to both vehicles). The other party’s insurance is asking for payment, but Advantage (which didn’t have a brochure on SLI when we rented) will not respond to our repeated requests asking for the name of their insurance company so that we can refer the claim to them. This was after checking in at the rental desk in the terminal. There were five other parties also waiting for their vehicles to appear. One couple refused their car as it was filthy (the seats). We had our car for two days then brought it back as it sounded like a bearing or joint was going, hardly hear the radio over the noise. I recently rented a car through Advantage in LA. The shuttle drivers were very kind, however, we waited with two small children for over 1.5 hours to get checked in once we arrived at the facility. The clerks were rude and only talked about how they were quitting once the manager arrived at noon. I specifically inquired regarding tolls when we finally arrived at the booth window in the desk clerk stated that she did not know anything about the roads that I may be driving on. She stated “if I were you, I would not use carpool lanes and try to just stay off the main highways to avoid any trouble with tickets or fines.”
Sure enough, we drove through a photo pass toll road. I tried to pay on “the toll roads.com” but the agency has an agreement that prohibits paying the toll myself. When I inquired about how to pay, they said it would just have to go to a violation where I would pay a fine, the toll, PLUS a $25 fee for each toll acquired! What a scam!?! 7 min on a toll road, & I’m looking at $75! Customer service is a joke, & the business model is geared towards billing their customers! Terrible way to do business!

The other driver would only be in town from the 28th thru the 30th of October. Prior to seeing the agent at Nashville Airport I had contacted a customer service rep on the phone and told her that I wanted to change the dates for the other driver and what did I have to do. She informed me that when the other driver was leaving Nashville to go up to the rental ticket office at the airport with the other driver, inform the agent, and the rental agreement would be updated.
Had I paid for the car rental I would have not been able to change the agreement because the agent would not take the other driver off the reservation. The agent wanted me to pay for the complete reservation that was previously made which included $67.45 for the other driver. I asked him if I could make another reservation and he complied but the amount would be more. Eventually, I decided that it wasn't worth the headache, and since there are several car rental agencies in the area.
As we were walking away the agent asked us to come back he went over to an agent at Hertz and spoke with her. She gave us a rental car for the same price as Advantage without a charge for the other driver was added to the agreement. If I ever make a reservation with Advantage I will only make it for the bare minimum and add on later. Advantage has a $50.00 fee for cancellations on paid reservations.

I rented a car from Advantage in Las Vegas on Sept 29th. I was bullied into accepting an "additional driver" fee for my wife, which came to over $180, despite the fact that this is against Nevada state law (Nev. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 482.31515) and against the company's own terms and conditions (which I didn't get to see until *after* I'd agreed to all the charges). The person I dealt with at the desk was very unpleasant, saying she didn't care what the law said, and I wasn't getting the car unless I agreed to the charges. The rental desk was busy, there was a long line of people waiting to be served, and we had a long drive ahead of us, so I felt that I had no option but to accept the charge. But I was basically bullied into it.
Fortunately, when I returned the car I was able to protest the charges and they were refunded. But the Las Vegas office manager refused to accept that her employee had done anything wrong, and she gave me the impression that ripping off tourists who don't know the detail of the Nevada state law is standard practice. The whole episode was very unpleasant. I won't use Advantage again.

If I could give 0 stars I absolutely would. When picking up our car at the reservation desk we were immediately told that they did not have a car for us and to have a seat and wait saying probably at least an hour. The attendant was rude and had no regard for people who made reservations for specific times due to scheduled events. After about an hour they had a car for us and we were on our way. That evening we got a flat tire and I called Advantage asking what they prefer for us to do and they stated to bring the car back to them and they will have another one for us.
After getting AAA to tow us back to the airport we were told again they had no car for us after being told 1 hour prior they did. We sat in the parking garage for over 3 hours (until 4 am) and we were forced to call AAA again to have them tow us home (NH) and use up another towing. Approximately 1 week after dropping the car off I get a charge on my CC for $55.90 for a toll violation ($5.9 in tolls, $50 for Advantage fees). After calling I was informed that I had gone through two tolls without paying and I informed them there were no tolls to pay. They explained MA is a "cashless" state and no longer have tolls, only EZ pass. How is a person supposed to avoid a toll charge in a cashless state?
I explained that it is ridiculous that Advantage charges $25 in fees for each incident when the incident is unavoidable. The manager, Mary **, only argument was that I had signed the rental agreement in which I was liable for all tolls and any fees with not paying the tolls. When initially renting the car and asked if I wanted the E-Z Pass option I elected no, however, the attendant DID NOT inform me that MA is a cashless state and that I would need the E-Z Pass (I am from NC so completely unaware of this). The manager again only kept repeating it is my fault for not getting the E-Z Pass and would not drop the accrued charges. This is completely unacceptable for a rental car agency to deceive their customers and not make it aware if a state is cashless or not. I will NEVER use Advantage again due to all these issues and will personally not recommend anybody to use them either.

Apparently, I went through a $1.80 toll, a toll that had no cash payment options. Advantage later billed me $26.80, which includes a $25 fee that an Advantage phone rep told me they were "required" to pass on me. I never received an invoice for this charge until I called. The Advantage rep confirmed that she had my correct email address on file, so clearly the company purposely avoids alerting customers about this charge.
When I called the "agency" that handles the toll billing, I was told that the agency is actually a PRIVATE company. The lady at this private company told me that Advantage not only comes up with the $25 fee number, but they also keep it! So basically, Advantage purposely keeps its customers in the dark about the possibility of incurring this fee. And if a customer later fights it like I tried to, they simply say "Well, it was in the terms you signed". READ YOUR REVIEWS PEOPLE. That’s the biggest lesson I learned here. I’m a regular car renter and have never had issues with other business such as Alamo, Thrifty, Enterprise... but every website I’ve checked has HORRENDOUS reviews for Advantage Rent-A-Car, and for good reason. I booked with Advantage because the car I chose came with unlimited miles. However, I was informed at the pickup counter that being a local, I’m all of the sudden exempt from getting that unlimited mileage. Why would locals be treated differently than any other customer? My booking email/website contains NO such rule or even any fine print regarding unlimited mileage exemptions. Having to pay for unlimited mileage nearly doubled my original booking price.
Also, the car was very dirty and absolutely not cleaned. Bugs splattered on the windshield, grimy dashboard and steering wheel, dirty carpet and there were even papers and parking passes from the previous renter. When I approached the manager for a different, cleaner car, his exact words to me were: “Well, I only pay my guys $7 an hour so you can’t expect much.” Um, okay, what? Yes, I do expect much for the amount of money I’m paying for my rental. Way to have pride in your business or any concern for your customers.
I returned the car with no problems but am now nervous for extra charges occurring on my card because of what other reviewers have reported. Expedia, Priceline, etc... should absolutely take this business down from their websites. They are scamming people and extremely dishonest. VERY disappointed and will not return, nor recommend this place to anyone else.

The agent acknowledged my answer and did not check the box for the toll pay. A month later, after the date of the car return, I noticed a charge on my credit card from Advantage. I received no notification from them for an additional charge of $56.50. Trying to get an answer from them was ridiculous. First, they told me I went through without paying. I paid cash both ways...plus the toll booth agent would not have let the gate up if I hadn't paid.
I'm sure if I would have broken through the gate, I would have had a state trooper pulling me over. They asked me to send them receipts where I paid; I, in turn, asked them to send me the citation from EZ Pass. They emailed an Advantage form which stated the time/day I reached the toll booth. I called them back and requested the actual citation from EZ Pass that shows a pic of the car and license plate. They could not provide one. Finally, they admitted that there was a transponder in the car, which of course, would let them know what time you reached the booth. After much back and forth, they agreed to give me a credit for the $50.00 but told me they would not credit the $6.50, which was the actual total of the toll charge.
At that time, I decided to stop payment through my credit card. These people are scammers. First, if I hadn't looked at my credit card charges, I would not have caught their bogus charge of $56.50. Second, if I did not choose their $9.99 unlimited tolls, they should not have a transponder in the car. Third, if they cannot provide you with a real citation, it's not a valid charge. Unfortunately, this site does not give one the option of scoring them with "0" points; or I would have.

When we rented a car with a FL license plate from Advantage at JFK in July 2018, we declined its EZ Pass rental (appeared to be expensive to us, but can't recall the exact price for daily rental). However, we didn't realize that was a trap! My cousin in NY let us borrowed her EZ Pass. It was not detected properly at the toll booths (we still don't know the reason). A week after we returned the car, $254.51 was charged to our credit card for a $34.50 actual toll charge from Advantage! There was $50 added fee for each toll usage (total of $100). Advantage claimed that it was not trying to penalize us, but was the 'violation charge' from EZ Pass. It suggested us to contact EZ Pass directly but refused to provide the 'violation code' from EZ Pass. Without the code, EZ Pass couldn't pull up the actual violation case.
My cousin contacted EZ Pass on our behalf after we returned to Hong Kong. The general answer she received about violation was "When a violation is sent out to the registered owner they have 15 days to pay the toll only and a $5.00 fee for New York State Thruway Authority, for Port Authority they can pay the toll in 15 days and request to have the fee waived. If a tag doesn't read and the license plate is not on an account the violation gets sent to the registered owner of the vehicle." (In this case, the rental company.) It should only be $5 fee, not $50! After all these, we realized we couldn't reach a satisfactory resolution with the company. We just regret that we didn't do enough research before making the choice. We hope travelers will read this review BEFORE renting from Advantage in JFK.

Had bill emailed and when I checked upon returning home found they had billed me an additional $120. Disputed this with them sending them the email confirmation and photo of handwritten rental agreement showing same amount. Disputed with my credit card company as well to cover bases. Card company has told me Advantage has claimed charge was valid, even with documentation. I sent documents to my credit card company. I won't be renting from Advantage again, or E-Z Rent a Car. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I wish I had read the reviews before choosing Advantage Rent-A-Car. Just like many of the other reviews, the clerk was not disclosing additional fees they were adding to the contract. After two long flights, and waiting in the car rental line for 45 minutes, we were most happy to initial on the iPad where the clerk said to initial. He offered a "military discount" for an upgrade. It was supposed to be a fee of $50 dollars. After reading the contract once we got to our Hotel in Colorado Springs, we realized he had charged an additional $35 per day. He also lied about the money we had paid to Priceline by stating that money would "be credited" upon return of the vehicle. It was not. I have tried to talk to Advantage and got nowhere. The individual on the phone stated that I had to call Priceline to get the refund. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company and I am sure Advantage will talk with them.

I rented a car from Advantage Rent-A-Car at Salt Lake City for 5 days for my trip to Yellowstone. I picked up the car in the early morning and was told that the car was fully inspected. I believed that and went on the road. When I was about 2.5 hours on my way to Yellowstone, the weather temperature went up and I needed air conditioning. To my surprise, no matter what we tried, the car just produced warm air. Its air conditioning was not working. I called customer service immediately but they didn't have another place close to anywhere along the way for me to exchange the car.
I couldn't afford the time to go back to SLC, so I was stuck with the defective car, and had to open the windows even on high ways in order to survive the heat. When I finally came back and returned the car, they did nothing about providing me a defective car. I had to write to the local manager, but I haven't heard any response. I'm still in dispute with them. Had I known that they are not a credited company, I would not have rented from them. Be aware.

My husband and I rented a car from Advantage in Tampa Florida for three weeks. Our flight down was delayed and by the time we got to the car rental desk we were exhausted. The woman staffing the desk was very chatty and just shoved a paper in front of us and said, “Initial here and sign there.” She asked if there would be more than one driver and we said that we may both drive it. She copied both our driver’s licenses and handed us papers to bring to the lot to get the car.
We just saw the charges to our credit card - an extra $297 for me to drive. I drove a total of about 15 miles during those three weeks. Never was an extra charge mentioned. We have rented from other companies and were never charged when the spouse was the extra driver. NEVER rent from Advantage. We learned a very expensive lesson.

Advantage is the worst. Because of tropical storm winds and rain conditions I was 3 hours late to return car even though I called and advised a gentleman in Guatemala (customer service) of the same, and when I arrive at the return center 3 hours and 11 minutes late, they charged me a "rack" or highest rate for an ADDITIONAL day. (Almost 70.00!!!). He offered me a $25.00 credit off it to his defense. Now imagine, the power went out at my home, and a large limb went down just up the street from me, so I am figuring the weather is pretty nasty all over our area.
When I arrived at the agency I spoke with manager "Rodney" who was even more rude, accusing me of driving to Orlando in the time I was late, even though I only had 120 mile in two days of rental on car. He then went on to say, that he "just got back from leaving for lunch". I even contacted corporate, and they refused to make any change as well!!! I felt that driving under those conditions was unsafe and it was better to wait the waves of rains to pass a little before I returned the car. Guess they didn't really care about it. Just interested in the money!!! I am sure they could have simply adjusted the day charge right off if they wanted to. I was very disappointed that making a safe choice cost me so much. I use Hotwire often, but will not if they cannot guarantee that rental car does not come from Advantage Rental car.

I was given Advantage Rent-A-Car through Travelocity and did not check their record prior to booking the reservation. My trip was to New Jersey and my rental was made at Newark NJ Airport. I reserved a subcompact. When I arrived I was told that I could upgrade to a GMC Acadia from my subcompact at no extra charge. I said ok. I later found out that I was charged an extra $20 a day, apparently a common bait and switch practice for this company. I did not get the insurance because I have comp on my personal car and AAA for towing. I get the car and go to my Jersey Shore location. While parked in a seaside town, the streets flooded. My rented Acadia was flooded to midway up the doors. When I attempted to start the Acadia, it was dead. I called Advantage informing them of the act of God that had happened and was told that I was responsible for getting the dead Acadia back to Newark Airport.
I arranged a tow through AAA. It turns out that the tow company could not tow in to Newark Airport because they don’t have the special permit to tow in to the airport. I searched for hours to find a tow company to tow from my area into Newark Airport and found none. Again, Advantage could not offer any help finding a tow company to their facility. They basically told me, “Too bad, it is your responsibility.” Long story short, I had the dead Acadia towed to Philly Pa., Advantages only other facility within my AAA 100 mile range allowance. A few weeks later, I received a bill from Viking Services, a collection service of Advantage Rent-A-Car headed up by Scott Davido, Al Farrell and Stewart Brown.
The letter informed me that since I didn’t get the insurance that I owed $14900 and they wanted payment. I told them I have insurance to cover it. I contacted my insurance company and they told me, “No problem, we have dealt with them before and don’t worry.” I continued to get more calls and letters from Advantage/Viking for months demanding payment. It turns out that my insurance company was awaiting itemized billing from Advantage who had not furnished these to my insurance company for several months.
My guess is they attempted to overcharge me, but are hesitant to rip off my insurance company and cannot produce $14900 worth of receipts. Advantage Rent-A-Car, under the direction of Scott Davido, Al Farrell and Stewart Brown also tried to charge me for 5 days of rental when in fact I returned the car before 1 day had passed. This is a company that is deeply rooted in a long history of shady practices that prey upon the American public. I can only hope that Consumer Affairs takes Note and stops them. The best path anyone should take while renting a car is to absolutely avoid Advantage Rent-A-Car.

My son knew the car was paid for and that the only charges to his personal card would be for gas and the underage fee. He was so tired and so frustrated with not understanding the man at the counter, he signed the contract and accepted keys and left.
The next morning when he looked at the contract, the Advantage employee had upgraged his car and charged him for it and he charged him for FIVE different insurances on the car none of which he did he request. He called the company immediately and they pretty much said "Oh, that's too bad" We called on 4 more occasions trying to work with them and they continually said that they didn't care. We opened a claim through our bank and the funds were eventually returned to my son's bank account. It was a LONG, STRESSFUL, INFURIATING situation. Advantage tried to steal $707 and kept it for over a month, and did not willingly refund the mistake. He travels for business continually, renting cars two or three times a month and has NEVER had this kind of trouble at a rental car company.

There is a reason (more precisely, during my recent experience at LAX I found several) why Advantage often prices car rentals lower than its competitors: Rental counter staff make up new rules and restrictions to sell additional insurance to unsuspecting renters. I am generally well prepared to deal with these shenanigans (I maintain permanent car rental insurance), but at my rental in late July, Jose at Advantage LAX simply declared that the full insurance package in my Europcar rental voucher (Advantage is Europcar's US partner) had been 'invalidated' due to my use of a New York State driver's license. The voucher stated no such condition, but I was forced to purchase new insurance at a cost of more than $100 - otherwise I would have been stranded in the industrial area near LAX in the middle of the night.
Rental car stock is poorly managed and old. I had booked (and prepaid for) a full-size SUV, but the rental agent tried to persuade me to accept a small SUV or van instead, claiming that no full-size SUV was available. When I insisted on being given the proper car type, a Hyundai Santa Fe was found, but it was extremely old (with more than 40,000 miles on the odometer), dirty, and significantly damaged. The first impression is telling: While mainstream car rental companies operate professional-looking and clean shuttle buses, those used by Advantage at LAX are old, dirty and smelly, with poorly functioning air conditioning. Conclusion and advice: It is worth paying extra to secure a rental with a proper provider.

Let me said this I don’t like to write review but I need to tell my story with Advantage Rent-A-Car. We booked a flight from Columbus Oh to Austin Tx and reserved a car with Hotwire which booked with Advantage to go to our grandson’s graduation from basic training in the Air Force. So far so good, now it gets better. We landed in Detroit Michigan. Our connecting flight to Austin was going to be delay 1 hour. Our flight was supposed to land at 10:30pm now it would be 11:30pm. We were told they close at midnight. I called Advantage to tell them our flight was going to be delayed and ask them if they could relay the message to Austin to wait a few minutes if we were later so we could pick up the car. They would not pass the message and said they would be closed at midnight and reopen at 600am. I had a bad feeling after I got off the phone.
Our plane landed at 1140 pm and we ran across the airport to the car rental counter. We arrive at the counter at 1155 pm. They was closed. He left early so we had to rent a car from Dollar which is right next to Advantage counter for $58 more. We returned the car to Dollar on Sunday 8/12/18 and talk to the lady at Advantage about the problem we had on Wednesday 8/8/18 to ask for a refund of the difference. She said for us to call Advantage on Monday because she could not process a refund, interesting how they can take money but can’t refund?
Call Monday I talk to some guy to tell him my story. He told me the counter at Aust[n closed at 1130pm which was a lie. After a few minutes telling him he was wrong and that you close at midnight he said they would check in to my case and gave me a case number **. They would email me in 24 to 48 hour so Wed I checked email. Nothing. So Friday check it again. Still no email. So I call them up. They said they had a video showing employee was there from 1130pm to 1206am and I was wrong - we got there after 1206am. If we arrived after 1206am why would we rent a car from Dollar. They did not answer my question and would not refund the differences of $58.02 which was the difference between full size and a SUV which was the last car Dollar had to rent. I told them the video was wrong (if there is a video) and I would email them a copy of my invoice from Dollar which the time showing I checked out the SUV which was 1209am.
As you know it take about 15 minute or so to rent a car and doing the paperwork I ask them why would I rent I a car from Dollar if he was there till 1206am. They did not answer my question again but keep telling me the video was right and I was wrong that he was there till 1206. I ask for a copy of the video and they would check in to it and get back to me by email in 24 to 48 hours. I know I will not get a copy of the video because there isn’t one to prove them wrong and they declined a copy of my invoice from Dollar. So you see they don’t care about the customer and will lie to you even you can prove to them they are wrong. It’s pretty bad when you can prove to a company they’re wrong but will not take the responsibility to said we are wrong and you're right but sit there and lie to you.

Car Rental at Miami International - Appalling service...AVOID! My family and I, five of us in total, went to pick up our car, and with only 2 people in front of us, presumed we would be on our way shortly. How wrong we were. Initially, there were 3 people working, but then one lady stopped working after finishing with a customer and seemed to take on a more managerial role as the remaining two staff were constantly calling her over to query or validate something. Then people were returning to the front of the queue to be dealt with prior to us. From what I could gather they had previously been seen and were confirming their car rental. However, surely the more senior lady should have dealt with them instead of the other 2.
After about 50 minutes, and lots of moaning by the kids (understandably) we were served... Only to be told they did not have the car we had ordered. The lady then said she was not sure she had anything suitable for 5 people and the luggage we had??? The woman was called over and said yes they did, they had a truck. By this point we said it was fine and just wanted to be on our way. The lady then started telling me the fees for the sun transponder, as we were driving to Orlando and would be dropping it off there. I was already aware of this, but I wasn't aware that it was $9.99 for every day of the rental, regardless of whether or not you used it that day, and with no maximum cut off, unlike other rental companies.
I was astounded, but as it is compulsory there is no getting around it. We eventually left to go and pick up the car, which again took another 20 minutes. When the truck was driven around the back had no cover. I explained to the lady that we were driving to Orlando with all our luggage and the clouds were already black and thunderstorms were imminent. She informed me this was the only car suitable for us and our luggage. How can this be??? We took the car and about 45 minutes into our drive the heavens opened. We tried to put some luggage in the back seat and at the front, but it was virtually impossible. Needless to stay, when we arrived at our villa and got the luggage out, a lot of the clothes and items were wet. This has to be the worst experience I have ever had, and we have always rented a car on our family holidays, so in 22 years, I have never had such a poor and unprofessional experience.

When I finally got to the counter they told me my car that had been reserved was still not ready and I would need to wait longer or take a smaller car. They wouldn't allow me to upgrade to a different vehicle unless I paid extra, when it was THEIR fault my car wasn't ready.
We also asked for a booster seat which is typically complimentary at other car rentals, and they wanted over $80, for 5 days! Which at that point it was cheaper to buy a brand new one for half the cost at Walmart and donate it when we left. Go with Avis/Budget/National. They aren't great, but they are FAR better than this poorly managed business. It's well worth the extra cost! I told him I could not pay that either. He apologized and said he couldn't do anything else.
I called the Advantage customer support phone number while I was still at Advantage and was told they couldn't do anything but send me a 10% off coupon. I had to call Uber to come pick myself and children up from the airport and drive us 45 minutes away to our hotel. I then tried calling numerous rental car companies and no one had anything available until June 28 due to an international softball tournament in the Denver area. I did reserve another car at the Denver Airport through a different rental agency for June 28. In the meantime we had to use Lyft/Uber to get around. Budget, we later learned, would have charged us $1198 for the Rav4 for ten days. Advantage raised the price from $1200 for a sedan to $2,500! My husband readily admits that he should have check the contract before signing, and legally, we have no recourse. Advantage turned a deaf ear to our complaint. I rented a car from Advantage Rental Car at the Austin Texas airport. I had booked online for 7 days for a total of $208.10. After returning the car I was billed an additional $190.13 for toll fees, taxes, concession fees and an admin fee of $125. The actual amount of the tolls were $20.23. I had signed the contract waiving the "Optional Products" which included waiving the toll fees (which I didn't realize at the time). I didn't notice this part of the contract or even understand what it implied. I called the company and disputed the charges above the actual amount of the tolls. I have rented cars in Texas before from other companies and will get the bill for the EZ Toll fees after the car is returned for the toll fees only, no admin fee, additional taxes and concession fees.
The toll fees have always been under $30. since I do about the same amount of driving each year. These "Optional Products" should each require a separate initial and they should be explained to the consumer. I was given no explanation. I now see that this is a problem for other consumers of Advantage Rental Car. I have rented from Thrifty and Budget in the past years and have had no problem. I will not be renting from Advantage again and want to caution anyone that does that they should make sure that this "toll" portion of the contract is clarified and not waived. This may cause a problem since it is all lumped together with the other "Optional Products".

Attitude and communication very poor, no effort made to answer questions that did not relate to selling us an add on - road side assistance, sat nav and EZ pass. The rate for the EZ pass - $25 per day ($375 for the duration of the hire period), borders on being unethical when their staff tell you there is no other way of paying automated tolls in New York with it and not let customers know they can register to pay tolls by mail for tolls in New York on the Pay Toll by Mail website.
We called Advantage Customer Service later to ask if we could pay tolls accrued directly but was told we had to take the EZ pass for the duration of the rental period. The small print in the contract state that customers who accrue automated toll charges are charged $25 admin fee for each occasion up to a maximum of $100 per day. The toll charge for getting out of New York (Whitestone Bridge) is $1. All the other toll road we went through took cash. This low cost car rental company uses tolls charge to ramp up extra charges - beware.

Don't even think you have a chance to avoid this scam. It starts by getting on their bus at the airport (if it has not broken down). They take you some distance away off of Mannheim Blvd. There they present a contract with a lot of fine print. You ask for a car that is equipped for the EZ Tolls reader. They have an automatic opt out feature, so you are "agreeing" in the fine print to pay a $25 toll convenience fee per day. Toll charges $27 for three days, convenience fee $75 even though you ask for a toll reader and you allow it to read the tolls. When you get back the rate for the car is higher than you expect (double) and weeks later they have another charge on your credit card for the tolls (OK) plus the convenience fee (not OK). RIP OFF.

RATING IS ACTUALLY LESS THAN A 1 STAR, CAN IT BE A NEGATIVE 5! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. This company along with their sister company (E-Z RENT-A-CAR) is a total rip off! Here is my experience: 1. Given a car rental with bad brakes (unsafe), the car shook and vibrated terribly when brakes were applied when we left airport, upon returning to airport we had to pay I believe 2 tolls (maybe 4, I really can’t remember). 2. The second car we were given was a five seater instead of the 7 we had rented! Took time to correct. 3. We had left a small item in the first car, asked to get it, it was gone! Understand, E-Z Rent-A-Car was the only one in contact with the car; you come to your own conclusion.
4. Took over 2 hours to get correct car and to leave the airport, missed dinner reservation, compensated all of $25, aren’t they considerate! 5. When windows needed sprayed off while driving, the car had no washer fluid!! When rear wipers needed turned on in the Florida monsoons, they did not work. 6. I did not pay the excessive cost for the tolls in advance. We were on a high way that went over a nature preserve (swamp) and without warning said there were tolls by plate ($.70 and $.70), they billed me $27.90! I could not have turned around at that point, there was no advance warning! 7. This occurred at the Orlando International Airport, but their reviews are consistent everywhere! Bad! STAY AWAY FROM THESE TWO COMPANIES! ADVANTAGE RENT-A-CAR, E-Z-RENT-A-CAR.

I rented a car for a week via Travelocity and received a price of $291.95. The Rep and I went over the electronic contract at the counter and at the time I declined all Optional Offers. When I was ready to pay with my credit card the charges came up to $568.00. I questioned the amount right away but was told by the Rep that it was an additional hold for any late return and none fuel gas. I did not see a problem for that and accepted the hold. The car was returned in the condition as agreed but the money was not returned to me. I contacted Advantage and came to understand that what was told to me during the electronic signing was a misrepresentation of the wordings on the hard copy contract. She asked me if I wanted Insurance and I said "no".
I initialed on the electronic pad next to the heading that said, 'Collision and Damage Waiver.' To my surprise, I actually accepted a coverage. If you initial the area next to 'YOU ARE ACCEPTING CHARGES FOR A WAIVER' then it charges you... Also 'Roadside Assistance' the same for initialing next to the area. So for Advantage, they deceive you by using the heading stating 'Waiver' but if you do initial it means you are agreeing to charges for a Waiver. The Reps are misrepresenting the product to the customer before they can verify the contract. Several customers have complained about the same issue in several states and may need to have someone look into these cases and give feedback. I have all my paperwork.

I believe a better name would be “TAKE” Advantage… as in take advantage of your customers!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND using Advantage. Pay the extra for a reputable car rental company like National or Hertz. In the end it would have cost me much less. As reference, I have rented from National and Hertz for business and personal travel many times without any issue like this.
I’ve made two calls to Advantage, called the Highway Toll Administration company, and had to get my own receipt for toll charges. Funny how easily they could email a receipt for the rental, but then just slipped the toll charges onto my credit card and sent no notification or receipt. No integrity!!! Advantage said there is nothing they can do at this point.
Initial experience of renting from Advantage (in Denver) was good, but the billing and price gouging for admin fees has rendered this experience as a failure. I am still in disbelief that toll admin fees were higher than the cost of renting the car for two days! Advantage charges (gouges) customers $25 per day in admin fees for tolls if you fail to add on the EZTOL option. Compare that to other companies charging $3-$5 per day. I found out AFTER the fact, that I if I had used the EZTOL option it would be $9.99 per day and covers all tolls. So for my two day rental, the real cost is $20, but they charged me over $75.
I don’t have a problem paying tolls, or a reasonable admin fee. But $25 per day is ridiculous. I would not be surprised to find out Advantage assesses their station performance based on how many add on fees they can charge, seems like customer retention might be a better measure of success. Integrity is obviously not part of the Advantage mission statement! You can quote that on your web page under what customers are saying about us! Your web page says “No excuses, no surprises.”
Well, not in my case. 10 Days after the rental, SURPRISE, driving on a toll road is a “violation” and costs $25 per day. SURPRISE, we charged your credit card and never notified you. I was surprised to find out that Advantage expects a typical driver to know that driving their car on a toll road is a violation. I guess they should clearly define violation for me. In the same section of the contract listing the cost of a toll violation it lists an admin charge for moving violation, citation, or parking ticket. So Advantage considers driving on a toll road equivalent to breaking the law? And you expect your customers to know this? I DO NOT RECOMMEND renting from Advantage. I do recommend National, Hertz, and have also rented from Enterprise and Avis a few times with no issues as well.

The told the lady next to me they didn't have the car for her, and they told the guy he was a half hour late (his flight was late) and it voided the contract. For all of us, they tried to increase the price by sixfold. My $271 went to $1200. I was starting a family vacation. The woman had a meeting in a half hour, but they think it's funny to hear how they are screwing up all the customers' trips. There is a scam with tolls in Florida, especially the Orlando area. We rented a car for a week and received charges for tolls after we came back home. We called the company who sent us to Florida Tolls and they told us that there are now toll booths that do not take money and you need either or SunPass or opt in with the car rental company to pay a daily fee to cover any tolls that are charged to you at these toll areas with no cash option to pay. If you don't prepay the fee (which was never explained to us), then once you return the car, you will receive a bill with a $25 administrative fee.
I asked what happened if you did not use the funds that were prepaid and was told by Advantage that those prepaid funds would not be returned. I asked to have the administrative fee removed and was told that this customer service was third party and they could not remove the fee. I asked for a number at Advantage and was told they would just send us back to them. Therefore, be aware when renting a car from EZ or Advantage because that you will be scammed out of money from this rental car company.

I made this reservation after checking the prices from several rental agencies. I was surprised by how inexpensive the Advantage rental was. Sadly, now I know. I rented from their LaGuardia airport location and from the moment I landed, I dreaded my decision. When they finally arrived to pick me up, move that 25 minutes had passed. There were no other people waiting for their van. We went to their car lot and I was shocked by its appearance - only 4 cars on their lot, a great deal of barbed wire and a completely trashed looking building and pavement. Once I got their front desk, absolutely like a 3rd world country, they gave me a very dirty car that had both a tire and engine light illuminated.
I went back to their counter and complained about the car. They seem very familiar with customers walking away from their cars as they processed my rental cancellation in no time at all. I then called Enterprise who picked me up at Advantage. Enterprise too seemed very familiar with picking up dissatisfied Advantage customer. DO NOT RENT FROM ADVANTAGE - THEY ARE AWFUL!

Either way I still refused to initial acceptance. Return the car and was charged $50 for CDW. I rented a small SUV and got to the rental place and the attendant (while very nice) switched me to a larger SUV. It was fine at first, but in all the hubbub of activity, flying a red eye flight, no sleep, a line and wanting to get out to my destination, I felt rushed. Lorenzo explained there was a $200 authorization fee that would drop off the card (okay, I work in the industry and understand, great). I told him I needed supplemental, simple, daily insurance coverage as I didn't add it online. I remember seeing $15 a day or something. He added it, hurried through the paperwork and I signed it (thinking at least $200 was dropping off for an authorization). I spent the week finding trash in the car daily (it also smelled super musty when we got in) - we found a dirty coffee cup, gloves, ear plugs (like construction workers use), trash in the cup holders and door handles, and otherwise were super disappointed.
I came to return and the car started making an awful noise, which did eventually stop, but was worrisome. I asked the attendant when I returned if I should talk to a manager about the outrageous insurance that was DOUBLE the cost of the rental and the dirty car and he said they would tell the manager and to not worry about going inside. (Obviously I should have). I have now been calling for WEEKS, talked to customer service several times and had to re-open my ticket number because Denver responds to the main customer service line and then shuts down my ticket. I repeatedly had to bother customer service for the Denver contact information which they did give, but the voicemail was full. I kept calling and finally the Denver manager (Bryan) called me back. He listened, dismissed my issue with the insurance, and said he would refund $60 for the roadside assistance that I never asked for.
Never mind the $200+ collision insurance that was more than the car and that I NEVER asked for. I understand the coverage was in place for the duration of the rental, but I also know something can be done about it. Make the situation right. Take care of your customer and they turn into a lifelong customer. Dismiss their issues and make them feel like it is their fault, even though they felt rushed, confused and now frustrated at the lack of response, and you ruin them for the future. I would like this situation to be resolved and the bill to be discussed again. It is absolutely ridiculous to treat a customer this way.

We booked our car weeks before leaving on our trip to Denver International Airport. Our initial payment was $438.64, and included taxes and fees. Upon arrival, the salesperson at the desk recommended a car upgrade since we will be driving in mountains, which was fine. The upgrade added $61.10 to our bill. Then, the man asked whether we wanted full or partial coverage for the car (never mentioned that this coverage was optional). So, we said partial, and he added Collision Damage and Supplemental Liability, which added another $209.90. Also, he claimed that we would be running into many tolls on our trip, and sold us the E-Z Toll pass for $10 a day. However, we are not aware that we even passed through any tolls, so there goes another $49.95 on our bill.
Interesting enough, we ran into a couple on our trip, that used the same company. They paid $254, only had to put down a deposit, and got a free car upgrade and were told they did not need to carry any coverage on the car they rented. While I understand we are under 25, this only added $124.95. So, our bill should have been the $438.64 we paid online, however, our new total at the rental store came out to $827.47 which is absolutely crazy and we felt scammed. Something we are also not understanding is how the taxes and fees almost tripled as well. We already paid taxes and fees at the time of booking online.
On another note, the "inspection" process was even more shady. The man at the counter said to bypass the inspection at the gate because we were "fully covered" which is not what we chose. We got to our rental car, and noticed right away that the maintenance required light was on. We drove it to the inspection guy to ask about the light, and he had no idea why it was on, and sent us to the "mechanics" in the back of the lot. The man in the back looked and saw that the car has not had an oil change, but decided to just turn the light off and send us on our way. So, we drove it back to the guy at the front, and asked him to write down that the light was turned off, and he told us to do it and never signed the inspection paper.
Also, they did not walk around the car or note any existing scratches or dents. This was concerning on our drop-off because we noticed that when we brought the car back, men were inspection rentals that were departing. Overall, I feel as though we were completely scammed, and that all this company wanted was our money. We will never use this company again, and will make sure other will not either. If I would have known it was going to be over $800, I certainly would have never chosen this company. This car was more expensive than a round-trip flight for 2.

My experience with this company is going to contradict several of the reviews I have come across on this site. I rented a car at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Immediately, I was greeted with excellent and expeditious customer service. I was provided with a full size 2018 Kia Optima. (White in color - which was a nice touch considering the heat in Arizona!) Unlimited miles. The vehicle was in pristine condition, low mileage, and smelled like it was just driven off the lot. It was examined by staff prior to my departure and I had a full tank of gas.
Returning the vehicle was an equally speedy and painless experience, and after checking off the level of gas, and condition of vehicle, I signed a paper acknowledging the terms of the contract. I received my deposit of $200 in less than 24 hours without incident. All I can say is review the contract terms, be confident in what it is you are looking for with your rental experience, and voice that. I would like to commend Tara for a job well done. This is the worst car rental company I have ever rented from. We rented a car for a long weekend in Denver, and the agent we worked with told us he would put us in a larger car for just a few dollars as a favor to us. We were really excited and really appreciative. When we got in the car the tank of gas was empty, but they’d told us at the counter that we didn’t have to fill it up when we returned it.
When we returned the car, they ended up charging us an extra $45 a day for the “free” upgrade, and then charged us $8.99 a gallon because we didn’t return it with a full tank of gas. Even though we’d received the car with an empty tank and they TOLD us not to fill it. So it seems they are charging customers for the gas ($8.99!) but then not actually even filling the tanks.
In short, it seems you can’t trust anything they tell you. They are going to charge you a lot for every little thing, even if they explicitly tell you they won’t. When we called customer service they were dismissive and condescending. They also have a message constantly playing trying to get you off the phone and just email them. They do not seem interested at all in customer service, and so if you have any problems with your rental, expect to be dismissed.

If you can avoid Advantage Rent-A-Car, by all means do it! I’ve had such terrible experiences with this company that I would never ever again rent a vehicle from them. I rented a vehicle yesterday on HotWire and found a cheap rate [$38.00 for 24 hours] from Advantage Rent-A-Car. I had to pay with my credit card immediately to obtain this low rate. I read the fine print. Saw that I had “unlimited mileage”. I had no reason to believe otherwise. I returned the vehicle this morning and was informed that I went over the mileage limit of 250 miles, therefore I was going to be charged an additional $30 for going over by about 30 miles. I was stunned as I had assumed no that I had unlimited miles (per terms and conditions listed on website when I booked the vehicle).
The Advantage agent informed me that if I were to have read the “local terms and conditions” I would have seen that I was allocated only 250 miles and did not have unlimited miles as I assumed. I explained to the agent that nowhere in the terms and conditions did it mention that I had only 250 miles allocated to me. The agent insisted that I should have located the exact terms and conditions and read them. I, again, explained to the agent that nowhere is this written anywhere in the T/C nor the contract. His reasoning for allowing me only 250 miles is because I reside in the same city where I rented the vehicle! This doesn’t make sense to me!
Anyhow, I had to call his supervisor to make sure they didn’t charge me the extra $30. I, also, discovered that I was being billed an additional $125.00 (refueling charges) although I returned vehicle with a full tank of fuel! By this time, I was beyond furious. I had to call the main Advantage Rent-A-Car to file a complaint and to get this additional refueling charge removed! It took me all day today to get the charges of $30 (extra mileage) fee and $135 (refueling fee) removed! It was a nightmare! Advantage sure does take ADVANTAGE of its customers!! Needless to say. Never again will I give them my business!

I was charged for the entire tank unexpectedly when knowing I was going on a short mileage trip. Talked with customer service and told them that I would of simply filled up before dropping off the car rather than pay for the entire tank. Ended up paying over $15 per gallon for the short trip. Believe all the bad posts and steer clear. If I could give a zero I would. I accidentally found numerous articles about the fraud problem by googling "who is in charge of rental cars in FL". Believe the posts! The desk clerk was a complete dishonest shyster. Told us we had to have the extra insurance even though I knew my insurance covered everything. We felt as though we didn't have a choice because no one else was open that early and he said it was FL only thing. (There was another company but it was reservations only due to early AM). So we rent this car and while inspecting it I notice damage to the other cars around us. I tell my husband I'm not getting a good feeling. We are given a car and didn't really drive it much till the next day. Ha... it starts raining and I go to leave the hotel and can't even make it over a little hump. The tires have no traction.
Hubby gets out and what do you know... no tread! Front wheel drive car and completely BALD tires. SO know I'm trying to reach the staff because we need a safe car and I need the insurance removed because my insurance co. confirmed I had the correct insurance. We chased these people and got nowhere. They also didn't take the insurance off like requested. Ended up not driving the car because it rained the whole time. I get home and call my credit card company and this is where it gets interesting. The toll stuff... all true! They leave the transponder on to track you... it doesn’t matter if you pay. They send fake invoices. When I figured this out from online reviews (the rep at drop off made a broken English comment about the transponder that didn't sit well with me) I notified my CC immediately about everything.
My rep from the credit card company had to keep reminding the rep we were speaking to from the car rental place that she was being recorded. Thank God my CC did this. I kept asking why so many people are getting charges that no one can explain. Oh boy we got a doozy of an explanation. MY CC card rep was speechless when the rental car rep hung up. She says to me "It's all recorded". "I can't believe what I just heard. You were right". I did get a call back from another rep in Orlando and all I got was "well that is your opinion". NO the car tires were bald and I found out they put the car back on the road because they said there was not an issue. I lost it! I was like, "Are you kidding me right now. You could kill someone!" Also she denied me calling in and asked why we didn't discuss any of this with their reps when we dropped the car off. I'm like, "Excuse me. We did. That's why the lady took chalk and wrote on the car."
But they also acted like they didn't speak English. So I get my final bill and want an explanation. Right. The reps just stared at me and shook their heads implying they don't understand. Anyways, have my CC company filing a fraud claim. Unbelievable all around! I did some research and apparently this is an ongoing issue. Wow! Time for some emails to be going out to some officials. Don't be fooled if you don't see Advantage's name in the news articles or legal settlements. These guys operate under various names and parent companies.

I had not heard of Advantage Rent A Car before but the deal I found online was the best one, so I thought I would give it a shot. Boy do I regret that. We rented the car for our trip to Las Vegas. We were flying in from Canada and staying for 8 days. The trouble started when we arrived at the car rental agency. In Vegas all the rental agencies are located in a building a short trip from the airport. You can take a shuttle there. Well when we got there all the other agencies were running smoothly and quickly. But not Advantage. There was a huge line and it was barely moving. After an hour of waiting in line with my infant daughter and husband we finally made it to the front.
Only to find out that the car size we wanted would not work? And we were informed we needed to upgrade? I was not happy about this and indicated so but they said they could not let us fit in a smaller car and that they would be happy to upgrade us with the special offer of only $10 more a day. Well I had already paid $184.50 for the car and knew I was to pay an additional fee of $109.28 Canadian when picking up the car. I was furious but didn't know what other choice I had at the time as we were all exhausted and I had already paid a fee when booking. Well after the upgrade I had to pay an additional $322.09 Canadian. My total for a 8 day rental (they charged me for 8 days even though I had it back to the garage by 9 am on the 8th day and didn't get the rental until almost 4 on the first day), was $431.37.
That is $53.92 a day in Canadian, which is around $41.78 per day US. The rental car was a Toyota Camry. Stay away from this place. You can easily find something much cheaper and with much better service. They put a family in a very hard position and I know for a fact we were not the only ones as there was a family beside us going through the same thing. My heart went out to them as I could tell they could not afford the extra expense any more than we could. They will rip you off when they know you don't have any options and are too exhausted to figure something else out. Note this rate does not include any of the insurance protection. It was for just the rental alone.

Rented a car in March 2018 at DCA to drive to an event in Herndon, Virginia. I was offered an optional toll plan for $20, but declined. I told the clerk that I would only be using the Dulles Toll Rd for one day, that I would pay my tolls in cash. He agreed that it was not necessary. Little did I know, nor was I informed that declining the service triggered special provisions in the contract, that I agreed to NOT use any automated, manned or unmanned toll roads in the area or be subject to those tolls, plus admin fees of up to $100 per day! I paid my tolls in cash only to find a $53.50 charge being billed to my credit card a month later. After hours on the phone calling Advantage customer care, VADOT and EzPass in VA, I found out (from a lady at EzPass) that a transponder will be read and charged for tolls, even if you pay them in cash, UNLESS IT IS WRAPPED IN TIN FOIL!
Advantage has charged me 2 tolls, even though I paid them of $1.00 and $3.50. Then for each toll, there is a $25 admin fee, so total of $53.50. They refuse to reverse any part of these charges and referred me back to my signed contract that allows them to gouge me. I was not informed by the rental clerk of the ramifications of not opting into the extra $20 toll transponder service, nor to wrap it in tin foil if I was going to pay my own tolls, even after I informed him at the counter that I would be using the toll roads, but paying cash as I went.
This is obviously a scam that Advantage will gladly exercise on any of its unwitting customers to gouge it customers for probably hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I would advise anyone seeking a reasonable car rental to steer clear and RUN from Advantage. A seemingly good deal will end up costing more in the long run! FINAL NOTE - Luckily I checked over the vehicle for damage. There was a big scratch on the bumper and I made them note it. If not, I'm sure they would have tried to charge me for damage!

I am used to the wait time and the car and service were good. HOWEVER, we noticed we left our home remote control in the rental car and called the next morning. The rental car was in Ft. Myers. They give a toll free number to call and the person said we would have to wait 48 hours to learn anything. So, 48 hours goes by, I called, it was a Sunday. Then the person said I had to call on weekday. So, I called on the weekday and even though I had a "ticket" number for my lost they said it couldn't be found. I requested to speak to the agency on location directly and the person said they didn't have their number!!! I was incredulous and ask, "You mean you are Advantage Rental Car Agency and you don't have any way of contacting your companies???" I was then put on hold for a great length of time and finally had to hang up!!!

Fraudulent Rental Agreement at Denver International Airport: The entire experience was a nightmare -- started with a 30 min wait for the shuttle; next was an attendant that purposely wrote-up a fraudulent agreement with the incorrect return date so I would be charged for an extra day at twice the daily rate; when I asked why the open amount on my card was so much higher than expected, he said a deposit of $200 was required and that it would be refunded upon returning the vehicle -- the deposit was never charged and in retrospect it was clear this was done to allow the various overcharges; same attendant lied to my face stating that I needed to initial the agreement to DECLINE insurance as I had requested, when in fact the agreement stated that by initialing, I was ACCEPTING insurance.
Further, the attendant made no mention whatsoever of EZTOL (the electronic toll system in the Denver area) or that I was declining the EZTOL service and that by doing so I would incur a daily "administrative" charge of $25 for toll violations. Next, when I left the rental building to get the vehicle there was an angry, confrontational lot attendant that refused to initial a vehicle inspection. Lastly, upon returning the vehicle, the attendant didn't give me a receipt saying his machine was out of paper. Totally unacceptable business practices. Will never use Advantage again.

I have traveled a good amount in my 55 years and rented numerous cars. This is the 1st time I have felt compelled to share a negative experience- in fact I can't think of a single rental prior that was negative. Here's the list of what was wrong: Stand in line for 1 hour ++ to get to counter. Rental Record Agreement conveniently omits the year of car reserved and the agent conveniently fails to mention the year of car reserved. Rental Kiosk employees (where customers actually pick up their rental) tell customer to go check out the vehicle visually and report any damage on a carbon form they find but the employee remains at the Kiosk and does not verify any defects in the car.
Our reserved car was a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (with 39056 miles, a reported and noticeable: dent in the hood, chipping and fading paint on the trunk and numerous stains on the interior seats and carpeting. The A/C was intermittent warm or cool for the entire 2+ day rental in Phoenix (May 7-9,2018) in 102°F-108°F temps. On the morning of our rental return I had to put air in a low tire (left rear was 26 psi). Customer service number on the Rental Record is merely a "call center" where they log your complaint and tell you a manager at the rental location will return your call which never happens. When you return the car at the Rental Kiosk you are given a phone number to supposedly talk to a manager at the Advantage Car Rental office at Phoenix Airport but really the number is a corporate number that no one answers and there is no voicemail capability.
If you go back upstairs to the Advantage Rental Car Counter you have to wait in line again 1 HOUR ++. The agent at the counter confides in you that yes ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR saves money by holding onto and renting OLDER CARS WITH HIGH MILEAGE. Maintenance and service of their vehicles is insufficient. I believe our rental was in need of a A/C recharge which would explain the intermittent warm/cool A/C but never COLD. I also believe that some of the AGENTS, KIOSK EMPLOYEES, AND CORPORATE EMPLOYEES knowingly are renting some vehicles that are older with high mileage that may or may not have defects and may or may not have been adequately maintained and serviced before put back in service for rental.
I will definitely remember this bad experience and tell everyone in my circle of influence to steer clear (pun intended) of doing business with ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR, FOX RENT A CAR, EZ RENT A CAR or any other name this pathetically managed and operated business chooses to call itself. By the way, I went on the Advantage Rent a Car website and typed in a complaint and hit send and I got an immediate message on the screen "Unable to Send Message, Try Again Later"---what a joke. Their entire corporate model/business plan appears to be to offer no real customer service or avenue of discourse about their poor service.

I have rented from multiple rental agencies with very positive results. Advantage was the rental from hell. I arrived to Phoenix at 10:00 pm. I waited in line for over an hour. The rental agent was rude. He insulted me for reserving an economy car, stating "Why would you ever rent that?". He then reported they did not have any economy or compact cars. He tried to give me a minivan even though I was traveling by myself with one carry on bag. I told him I was going to contact another rental company.
Miraculously an economy car suddenly became available. He also told me an economy car would not make the 2 hour journey from Phoenix to Sedona. I knew this to be false as I grew up near Sedona and drove a Ford Fiesta. He then said it's different when you own the car. I then had to stand in another line upon entering the garage to get the keys and paperwork.
Upon returning the car, the employee sent me to the desk in the garage for check out. There was a line of 10 people to get a receipt. Finally the man that received my car told me he would email my receipt so that I could get to my flight. He emailed me my receipt, but had charged me over $150.00 in fuel charges, even though I returned the car with a full gas tank. My total charges were suppose to be $60.00 and instead were over $200.00. I am currently disputing the charge with my credit card company. Never rent from this company. Do not be fooled by their low prices. They are dishonest. I would happily pay $100.00 more to rent from any other rental company. Advantage is a true Disadvantage!

The counter attendant was as helpful as she could be given the circumstances (e.g., only one car available, car cleaner had not gotten to work yet). When we arrived to the airport, we were waiting at the common rental car shuttle area before we were told we had to go to a different area and look for a WallyPark shuttle. This information was not listed anywhere in our reservation. After waiting a long time for the shuttle, at least 25 additional minutes in the new location, we were dropped off at a small lot with a trailer. The trailer housed the small customer service counter. The customer service representative was very professional. We reserved an economy rental car for the weekend, but were told the only "clean" car available was a minivan.
We were offered the opportunity to wait for a different car, but it needed to be cleaned. The person responsible for cleaning the cars had not arrived to work as scheduled. The customer service representative was not sure when he'd arrive, so this left us feeling as if our only option was to take the minivan. The minivan was not clean inside or out. There was even trash left in the driver side passenger door clearly visible from the passenger side front seat (fast food cup w/straw and food wrapper). The interior was also not wiped down nor vacuumed. Upon returning the car, directions were not clear as to how to return the car. We spent at least 15 minutes figuring out we needed to get an entrance ticket to WallyPark, park the car near the trailer and give the key to the WallyPark shuttle driver. It was a mess!!! We will never rent from Advantage again, NEVER!!!
In summary: 1. Clear instructions available on where to catch "WallyPark" Shuttle (shuttle pickup was not in common rental car shuttle pickup area). 2. Having the car we reserved available. 3. Having clean cars available (car had visible trash and had not been vacuumed/wiped down, exterior also filthy). 4. Clear instructions on how to return the vehicle (the written instructions we had were unclear).

I am extremely unsatisfied with the experience I have had so far with my rental from last month. The customer service I have received so far has been extremely poor and unprofessional. My original estimated rental cost was well under $500, but now in total I have been billed a total of $832.28. I was not made aware that there was a $25 service charge per toll, I would have paid my own money through the tolls if they were going to be that expensive, $164 in tolls??? I was also not made aware of the cost for the collision waiver, I have my own full car insurance, why would I pay over $200 additionally?
I told the CS Rep that I have my own insurance and would not need the additional waiver, so he told me to sign the pad. They have literally stolen from me by hiding little details in the contract but not communicating those charges at the time of checking the car out. I have not heard back from several attempts to reach someone at this horrible company. Seriously read all of the reviews, how has this company not been sued, fined, or shut down?? They do not even deserve 1 star.

However, they never asked me if I wanted to use the Toll pass, or how the program worked. I ended up with $75 charge for tolls (I think I went thru two of them), of which $50 was administration fees from Advantage. Customer service was a block wall, they know this is a scam and hear it day after day. Rent from someone else.

Are they renting the vehicle or selling it??? Second: Convertible reserved (Mustang was pictured when renting). Only car was a VW beetle...not happy. Told to come back tomorrow to exchange car when more available. After driving car to hotel (20 miles away) experienced unsafe driving due to front wheel being out of round.
Third: Next day, call Customer Service to arrange car exchange. 45 minute wait to reach customer service which multiple recording messages to email them and wait 24 hours for reply. What kind of CS is that? (Oh yeah, one that is grossly understaffed). Reach CS agent who indicates it is not possible to hold a replacement convertible for me at Maui rental agency. So now it's on me to take two hours and drive 40 miles R/T to return a defective car and HOPE another is on the lot.
Fourth: Good news...a beautiful 2018 Camaro is there and the car is swapped out. This part went very well. Fifth: Return the car with full tank and receive an email invoice with a $139 fuel charge on it even though the invoice indicates tank was full upon return. Sixth: Attempt to reach CS again at 9 am EDT and get a recording their hours are from 8 am EDT - midnight. Hmmm, I think 9 am is between those times. Call back and ask for reservations who ends up creating an incident and give me a case number. Seventh: Incorrect charge posts to my credit card to I have to call Chase to put a hold on payment due to their incompetence. I can forgive one or two screw ups but this was 7 in a row. Would never use this company again.

Run and don't walk! Horrible Service! Went online earlier and booked a rental car for three days thru Expedia for my daughter. The charge was $98.00 for a total of three days. We opted out of the "additional" insurance coverage because we didn't need it. Dropped my daughter off at the airport to pick up her rental. I drove back home, when I arrived my daughter called stated that they would charge her more for the additional coverage. I told her, "NO. We don't need it. We are covered," she then tells me that they want to see proof of our insurance!!! I had to drive back to the airport, park in short term parking and get up to the Advantage Counter. Only to be greeted by an unprofessional women who had the nerve to take my insurance policy and enter it into their system.
When I told her not to do that she said it was just their policy. Then proceed to tell us that there is a 250 mile limitation on the rental. Because Locals get charged additional mileage unless you are traveling into San Antonio then you don't have the limitation... You get unlimited. Then she proceeded to tell me that many locals don't even return the cars and that's been a problem and Advantage Rent a Car is going to start making it very, very hard to rent cars from them. I told her that when we booked this online it stated "unlimited mileage" and asked her "what other under hidden surprises do you have???" She smirked as if all this was funny!
After she asked us five different times about their insurance coverage and waiving it. I finally told her... "Do not ask us that again! We have full coverage and we don't want your coverage." When the deposit amount was presented ($200.00) I said "what choice do we have!" When I said that, she then said "you know what? I don't like your tone! And I'm not going to rent to you." So, she cancelled our rental. We walked to another counter and thank God there are still professionals. The young man greeted us, was calm and helped us immediately. Less than 10 minutes and we were good to go out the door! Less Deposit, no requirement to see our Insurance Card, no hassle about taking out their insurance coverage, no limited mileage, no crappy service. RUN don't walk.

When I returned the car I got a bill in the mail for $250. Apparently my picture was not good enough for them to even consider. Two months later when I spoke to their customer service representative she was unable to find my bill but I was still receiving letters about the damaged windshield. We spent over an hour on a Friday night, waiting in line at the counter for a car and no explanation/apology was provided. We missed dinner with my girlfriend's parents and it was embarrassing having to admit it was due to my trying to save money by renting from them. At one point they had customers running up to the 4th floor to later tell them to run back down to the 3rd and wait some more (total chaos). Now I'm being charged $56 for a single plate-by-toll use when it should of been $30.50 (they said it'd only be $26 plus the cost of the toll, $2.50 service charge + $2 toll). Now I've ended up paying more for this horrendous service than if I'd rented from a reputable company.

They just let you book it and wack you for it at the counter. When we complained he removed about 200.00 dollars off explaining that he gave us such a great deal. We had, and paid for a reservation, but when we got to the place they wanted an extra $200.00! No mention of that in the website, no warning whatsoever. They also said they only would take it by a credit card, and not a debit card. My wife offered her credit card, but they would not accept it. They said since I reserved the car, only I could pay it. BUT I PAID IT USING MY WIFE'S CARD... AND SHE WAS THERE WITH ME, AND HAD THE CARD AND HER ID WITH HER. They ALSO said the extra $200 was a rule "for locals." Didn't know we Las Vegas residents are the target of discrimination by Advantage. (Or maybe because we are ** and Latino?) Too bad they didn't realize my wife is a lawyer and knows our rights. We asked for the manager, and got told they could do nothing and we would get no refund or exchange.
The manager's name was Nina, and she is incompetent and lacking in professionalism. Avoid this place at all costs! They ALSO said that ALL the rental car companies do the same thing (the $200 and refusing a debit card or insisting that the person who reserved the car has to be the one to pay this fee, EVEN when the car itself was PAID FOR by the person who is offering to pay the $200 IN PERSON). But they lied. We went right over to Alamo. We rented a car WITHOUT the $200.00 extra (not that we would have minded-we just wanted to use EITHER my debit card OR my wife's credit card, which we used to PRE-PAY for the car) They did not discriminate against minorities or people from Clark County.
There was no sketchy dance by the Alamo customer service agent. (And the vehicle we got, a SUV, was even cheaper than the regular car we had paid for at Advantage--go figure!) There is a reason that Alamo has 4 stars on Yelp, and Advantage has 2. (And the only positive reviews, they probably pay for or encourage in some way).

After getting the car we got on the road for our hour long drive to our destination.
The following day it started to snow while we were driving on the freeway, the windshield wipers on the driver side were nonoperative and so I could not see where I was going. Very scary. After getting back to the house I tried calling customer service and could only call a generic 800 number, the individual on the line who answered did not speak fluent English and I had difficulty getting the point across that I needed a replacement car delivered to me. This person could not reach anyone at the DIA office and told me they would send an email to ask them to contact me. I spent the next 4 hours continually calling their 800 number trying to reach someone but was unsuccessful.
The next day I had to get a car that I could drive, so I took a chance and drove back out to DIA to return the car. I was angry that I was forced to drive in unsafe conditions without wipers on the freeway to get the car back because there was no way to reach them by phone. When I arrived, about 10 am, I found 6+ people working, nobody in line and no customers to be seen anywhere. Apparently they overstaff when there are no reservations, and understaff when they know they have large number of reservations. I expressed my anger about being forced to drive there to return a broken car, while doing so, another employee salesperson, hearing my rant said to another co-worker "Geez, what an **." I turned to him and asked him how he would like to have to drive on the freeway in these conditions in one of their cars and he waved me off as an annoyance.
I eventually got a replacement car, but had lost half the day of my vacation doing so, plus the prior day not being able to drive anywhere or do the things that needed to be done because of the car. I have to call my bank every single time they try to take it out. This is a disgusting company and very dishonest. I Would never recommend this company and I would never rent another car from this company. If I can give less than one star I would but I have no choice but to check the first star. Ugh!! Beware of this company. They are thieves and liars.

Advantage, appropriately named because they will take advantage of you! We rented locally and we were hit with unexpected mileage fees then hit with undefined times under their small print. They made a ton of money off of us in fees and would not reduce even a portion of it. This company is ruthless!

We booked online for a "total amount due at pick-up" of $250.01. The young man working at the counter when we went to pick the car up asked if we wanted insurance. We said no. He said, "OK sign here for the 'waiver'". When he ran our charge the total was $511.64. When we question him about the cost, he said the additional amount would be credited after the car was returned. We asked again when we returned the car and were told it takes a few days to get the credit. What is so frustrating is that was all a lie and the company seems to be ok with that. We would say beware!

I rented a car from Advantage through Hotwire for 108$ for 4 days in Denver. When I went to pick up the car the I agreed to prepaid fuel for drop off. It was not explained to me that I was also signing up for collision insurance. The additional charge I received from Advantage was 175$ on top of the 108$ I paid to Hotwire. I admit I should have reviewed the contract before signing. Still, had the subject of insurance not been grazed over or hidden in the guise of a deposit, I would not have agreed to it.

This lady at the Ft Lauderdale airport was the rudest, unhelpful person I ever came across. She would be fired if she worked for me! We came from Idaho where we don’t have tolls to drive on our highways and she never told us about that we would be charged for tolls. I got a bill charge on my credit card 3 weeks later after we returned the car for 116.88. 16.88 for the tolls and 100.00 administration fee from Advantage! I will never use them again! They rip people off by not informing them of charges. Please save yourself a lot of headaches by going to another car rental! I wrote the Corp office an email when we got to the hotel about how rude she was. We got a 10 percent coupon for next rental! Now I wrote them another email asking for the 100.00 back since the gal never explained about the tolls and am waiting to hear back! Will keep you posted.

Car was rented at Atlanta airport and returned early Friday morning to the spot in the parking garage that indicated returns/Hertz/Advantage rental car. Received a phone call Feb. 12 almost 2 weeks later that the car was going to be reported stolen. Returned to Pittsburgh at 0830 Feb 2nd. Car was in their parking lot the entire time but they were unable to locate it. Were told they would look into it. Was unable to reach anyone at the contact number they left. Multiple messages left on voicemail with no return call. Charged for additional days until they "found" the car. As no one would return calls or answer the phone. Those additional charges were disputed. Charges were again placed.
Contacted customer service who is unwilling to do anything with this as they state car was returned to wrong place even though signage indicated the location car was returned to and attendant stated it was the correct place. Customer service representative would not transfer the call to a supervisor stating that they would not do anything differently. Will never use this company again!!!

I booked a rental car through Priceline. I paid for everything in full (including taxes/fees) so I was only expecting a temporary charge to be placed on my credit card for a deposit. I did have a pending charge placed on my card in the identical amount of my rental fee paid to Priceline. That seemed odd as I expected a round number. The agent at check-in said that it did seem odd but assured me it was just a temporary charge like I expected. Upon returning the car (no issues or extra charges of any kind), the temporary charge became an actual charge... meaning Priceline and Advantage both charged me for the rental car.
I called Advantage, who claimed that Priceline never sent them payment so they had the right to charge me as well. I spoke with 7 different people at Priceline over the course of several weeks who all said that the payment was indeed sent and there was no reason for Advantage to charge me. Priceline, to their credit, tried getting in touch of Advantage (over the phone and through email) but has never heard back... ever. Also, I waited 3 hours in line to get the rental car that I ended up paying double for. Worst rental car experience I've ever had.

I travel to El Paso each and every month for work and this is the absolute last time I ever rent from your company. I have never been treated with such disrespect. Absolutely the last time I ever rent from your Airport location. The reps are crooked and lie in order to upsell you. I made my reservation (**) online and when I went to pick up my vehicle at 1130am on 3/10/2018 they told me that because the type of vehicle I reserved wasn't available they were going to have to charge me an additional fee to put me in a different vehicle. (That's complete **.) Typically if a rental car doesn't have your vehicle they upgrade you as a courtesy especially since I wasn't requesting an upgrade!!!
I explained this to the attendant. I already prepaid the car and since I'm not requesting an upgrade I shouldn't be charged any additional fee, but he was adamant that he was going to charge me an extra fee, if wanted a car. I told him I come to El Paso every month and this has never happened. But he didn't budge and said if I want a car he was going to charge me extra or I could wait a few hours and see if my type of car arrives or cancel!!! WTH kinda options are those??? (I know that these and any upgrade, gas, insurance is commission to the counter.) I was disgusted, I told him to cancel my reservation, and he told me I would have to call the online site I reserved it through.
I walked away and called the online number that's listed for questions or cancellation and THAT REP answered!!! I went back to the counter and told him I was the one that just called!!! He smirked and cancelled my reservation and refunded me the charge. SMH. I went to a different agency got a car with no issue!! So disgusted.

Deceptive Business Practice: Picked up a car at the airport. Was offered an option of an E-ZPass, but not at a per toll rate but at a very expensive per day rate. The only option was to not take it, or pay a high rate for every day of the rental. Not being from the area, (but familiar with East Coast tolls) I talked in detail about my planned travels and use of tolls. We (counter agent and I) agreed that the E-ZPass just did not make sense for my travel plans.
Turns out New Jersey has tolls where there are no toll booths. Photo of license plate gets back to rental agency, who bills back the customer. We never discussed the fact these toll booth-less sites were common. The shocker is that Advantage charges a $25 administration fee for each transaction! They surprise billed me $75. The counter person had to have known this and never informed me. Very profitable for them. Probably trying to spite me for not choosing their overpriced E-ZPass Option. I highly recommend you avoid a company who is in the business of servicing out of town customers by no sharing (to their profit) relevant local information.
