First time renting from these guys last week. When renting the car I lost half an hour because they said, "If there is any damage, just come back in." The car had huge scrapes, front bumper damage, and numerous spots around the complete exterior. I did the fuel purchase option, only to find 3/4 of a tank before I left the lot. When I dropped the car off the line was backed up to the entrance of the drop off lot area. The woman came to the car and said, "Just leave it running", and when I stepped out she jumped in. I said, "But I need my stuff." She popped the trunk and I grabbed my bag. I asked for the receipt. She said, "You will get it emailed, or you can ask at the counter inside." Stood in line for 35 minutes watching the attendants tell the people in front of me that they would have to wait an hour for cars, even though they had reservations.

While checking in for the flight, I realized my jacket was still in the back seat of the car. I called the number on the rental agreement and got... You guessed it... A person in God knows where that would be willing to process a claim. I asked, "Can we just call them now?" "No. We need to process a claim, and "IF" they find anything." Of course, when I called four days later, after waiting on the phone a 10 minutes, I got "No, they didn't find anything." I said, "No, that's not right, because I know it was there." Reply??? "Would you like to speak to the people at that location?" "Yes." "OK... click!"

Summation: Car was beat up. Assume if I didn't say anything they would have charged me for the damage. How many other people have paid for the same damage??? Problems on return because yeah, parking cars is so technical. BS about the fuel purchase option. No receipt. Reservations... that didn't make a difference. Personal property??? It's all theirs. Before you rent from these people, think about how desperate you really are.

I booked a car through Advantage at Orlando International Airport. I was allocated a Chevy Cruze with only 6500 miles on the clock but badly scratched so took a while to note all of them on the check-in/check out form before I set off. Discussed with representative and agreed to bring the car back full of petrol, however, my credit card statement showed a charge of $42.92 for fuel as they had sneaked in a FPO [Fuel Purchase Option] that I initialled so I could have brought back the car with an empty tank.

Nice one Advantage, I will not be using you again. I should have been warned by other reviews how bad the company was but thought I had covered all the bases and did not expect this underhand deceit. Also be careful to hand back the lock/start remote control as they charge $400 if you accidentally walk away with it, surely that could not be the reason they ask you to leave the engine running when you return the car though I cannot imagine any other reason for such a request!!!

I rented a car at Denver airport from Advantage. They did not have the car I reserved - a 4 wheel drive Rav4. I did finally get a similar size 4 wheel drive vehicle at my reserved rate after haggling for 10 minutes as they tried to up-sale. While renting, no mention of toll roads was made, no notice at counter, no info provided, no comments regarding unpaid toll fees. A month after returning home, Advantage charged my credit card with $42.80 "unpaid toll violation". I knew it was trouble when I called Advantage customer service and heard the main menu option of "press 4 for toll violations".

E-470 reports that the toll amount was: ExpressToll Costs: $8.60 or License Plate Toll Costs: $10.80. (If Express Toll charge is not paid in advance, then License Plate Toll cost is billed based on photo of license plate taken on toll road). Advantage charged an additional $30. I have contacted Advantage Customer service and spoken to multiple representatives. All have refused to help, reduce the fee or take responsibility for this hidden and exorbitant additional charge.

Recently rented a car from Advantage in DEN. Upon returning, I found that the airport gas station could not accept credit cards due to a computer problem. Thus, I returned the car with a half tank of gas. I was charged $70 for the 5 gallons that they had to put in. This is not a mere mark up, it is outright robbery! Never again Advantage!

All LAX car rentals are off-site from the LAX airport so you have to catch a bus to get to the rental office. After waiting for the bus, there is a 20 minute drive to the Advantage rental office. Once at the Advantage Rental office, I waited in line for 1.5 hours just to get attended to at the counter, because it took so long for the counter attendant to get the car to each customer. I waited another 20 minutes to receive my actual car and finally drive off. This LAX office is totally understaffed and no fun at all. The LAX office needs to hire more staff to serve at the counters and get the cars ready outside to get them to the customers quicker. We dropped off our car at John Wayne Airport and this is a much better office.

I suggest that you do not use Advantage Rental Car ever and I will not use them again due to all the negative reviews. Also try and find a better car rental company when flying into LAX, and rather pay a little bit more for better service. Better still, don't fly into LAX and try and use another airport in Los Angeles with better car rental service.

I have had one of the worst consumer experiences of my life dealing with Advantage. What started out on a good note, ended terribly after having to deal with being charge for extra days that were not actually used. After calling the corporate level, I was hung up on TWICE. I was told I would receive a call from a supervisor at the corporate level - that also did not happen. I finally called back and was directed to call the branch level, where the associate told me he would have his manager call me - again this did not happen. I am out about $100 (conversion to Canadian dollars) for a rental day that I never used. The organization is unprofessional, inconsiderate, and mismanaged. I would never, ever, use this company again, and I would suggest going any other rental company. So incredibly disappointed in what happened.

It is NYS law to accept my insurance ID card to rent a car. We even purchased additional rental insurance which specifically states the insurance purchased is sufficient and not to purchase anymore. The man at the counter insisted I needed to show him my policy and didn't even offer to purchase. I have rented cars countless times and never had this problem. This company is a complete scam.

Reservation people said no problem till we got to Jacksonville. I had to travel quickly for my grandfather's funeral, and my 2-year old daughter came with me. After a long day of travel, I just wanted to pick up the car that I had pre-paid for online. I was asked about insurance and I said I had my own insurance. The desk clerk said "So, just the basic insurance." At this point, my daughter was crying that she was hungry and tired. I said yes. He directed me to initial a bunch of lines on this barely readable screen, telling me to initial and then move the arrow down to read the rest. He notified me that there would be a $200 hold placed on my credit card - okay fine. Never once was I told about additional charges, and I was so exhausted and grief-stricken that I didn't bother to read through each line of the contract.

About 5 miles after leaving the airport, the "Maintenance Required" light came on. The mileage corresponded to needing an oil change, so I just left it. I had the car a few days as I drove to my grandfather's funeral and spent time with family. Upon returning the car, I was notified that I would be charged more than double the rate expected because of PAYING for THEIR basic insurance. I asked the guy that I returned the car to, and he said it wasn't his thing. He also completely blew off the maintenance light. I contacted customer service and they were no help. "You initialed on the contract". I replied back with a full explanation and mentioned how I felt completely swindled. No response AT ALL. This was such a bad experience for so many different reasons: The agent at the desk lied to us about tolls. He told us that there was no way to pay a toll other than through Advantage and gave us a choice of paying Advantage $25 each time we went through a toll or an extra $10 per day for a smart tag. There IS a way to pay a toll online within 5 days with no penalty so the smart tag is unnecessary. They gave us a car with a slow leak in the tire. After filling it up several times the first day, we became concerned and called in. They said that if the tire became flat, we would be responsible for repairing it (no roadside assistance!) so we should bring it back to them right away if we wanted to avoid a flat. We did that - drove straight out to LAX to drop it off and get a new car.

When we got there they charged us the gas premium for not filling the tank before we turned the car in! You would think they would waive that since they told us to come straight back in order to avoid a flat! When we asked to talk to a manager a very snarky guy came out -- was extremely rude and basically said he didn't care if we were happy with Advantage or not. They lied to us about insurance. Said we had to pay it through them even though we had already bought a policy through Alliance. Total amount of L.A. rental through Hotwire with all the charges they added on was DOUBLE the advertised price.

At least 30 people waiting in line with very few company representatives checking people in. Charge a couple dollars more for your car rental and hire some more people. This is not rocket science.

Never having rented from Advantage before I was impressed with their low price for a mid sized SUV at Houston's IAH location. My good impressions basically stopped there. I was asked where I was traveling to and I stated "Galveston". Not being familiar with the Texas Highway/Interstate system I had no idea which roads required tolls. I was told by the salesperson at the counter that I'd encounter "numerous tolls" throughout the week in that area. So I reluctantly agreed to the $9.99/week toll pass. It wasn't needed once!!! Next I was told that my NY insurance and/or credit card insurance wasn't accepted in Texas. I was told that I had to purchase the minimum insurance program at $13.99 per day. Again, I feel this was a flat out lie after doing further research. But at 10 PM on a Saturday I didn't have the time or patience to google for answers.

Also, they wanted to charge another $13.99 to add my wife as a driver. Since she was at baggage claim I said, "She can go without driving this week." I then went to find the vehicle which was a Jeep Compass. No disrespect to Compass owners but this vehicle couldn't get out of its own way. Terrible acceleration and a very suspect transmission. To top it off (Literally) the next day as Gulf salt water spray hit the windshield I found out the wiper fluid was empty! That's basic maintenance Advantage! I had to purchase some fluid at the nearest gas station in order to see clearly through the windshield. So, if you want to be lied to, drive a sub par vehicle without basic maintenance go ahead and rent from them!

So, on my trip to celebrate a family event, I selected Advantage through carrental.com to reserve a vehicle for a trip to Vegas. I paid the one week rate of 120.02 based on a $17.99 daily fee and taxes. When I arrived to pick up the car, they did not have the vehicle I selected and offered me a larger vehicle at the same price. I repeated, "At the same price of $17.99 per day." When I checked out and received my contract provided digitally without a hard copy to review, I was charged an additional $15.00 a day for upgrade fee and for full insurance coverage instead of what was required to cover the vehicle. Disappointed, I wanted the contract changed to remove optional insurances and the upgrade fee.

Long story short, I was told they could not make changes to the contract and I had to return the vehicle before initiating another contract the following day when I returned to have corrections made. I was charged $149.00 and not credited my original $120.02 for 1 day car rental. WTH! I would never go to Advantage again. I filed a claim with my credit card and charges were reversed immediately. Have you checked billing for services paid for via registration and balanced them against the final billing? I would consider it to make sure the business is not taking advantage of you.

We rented a car through Hotwire in Orlando for March 21-28. The reservation ended up being through Advantage. We had never rented through them before and definitely won't again! Don't ever use these people. The guy in Orlando named Jose was such a jerk. He got all bent out of shape because we didn't do any of his high pressure sales gimmicks with the car rental. He tried to sell us a "toll pass" for $9.99 a day and said we would need it for our trip to the Atlantic coast. We weren't sure if we would need it because we were vacationing but declined it just based on the price and were we ever glad. What he was going to charge us $80.00 for cost us $4.00 for the week.

He continued repeating that we needed to purchase the insurance to cover us if we had an accident and we said we had insurance and he tried scare tactics to get us to purchase additional insurance. I could go on and on about how bad this person was that provided our service on Tuesday, March 21st in Orlando but the most important thing to know is that you should never rent a car from these crooks! They are unbelievable with how they treat their customers; especially the ones who are smarter than they hope and they can't rip them off! Stay away from Advantage!

I do not mind the long wait, the lousy car, the slow service. But NO SERVICE on a price I paid extra for - totally unacceptable! I originally booked online but when I picked up the minivan I rented last Dec 27, 2016, my husband and I opted pay "additional" $304.22 for insurance with roadside assistance. Fine, it's the price I'm willing to pay for peace of mind and to make sure my family will be safe on a very long journey. But renting with them proved to be a disaster! We had a tire blow up in the middle of the freezing night on a freeway. I called the 24 hr roadside assistance number on my rental agreement and since it was 2 a.m., they told me to call 911!

I then called Advantage "Customer Service" to try to get some help. Customer service then told me to get the spare tire and fix it myself! Yes, customer service told me to let all the passengers out of the van in the pitch black-freezing-out of nowhere place since spare tire is under the passenger chairs. But I told them I was travelling with my 2 children and my elderly mom on a wheelchair. They told me that's all they can do for me - to point out the location of the spare tire and do it myself! Thanks to my brother who drove all the way to help us out. Upon opening the huge doors of the van to get all our passengers out, the strong freezing wind blew up everything inside including our toll ticket! We had to pay higher toll than the normal.

Then, when we finally changed the tire, everyone was coughing their lungs out! We even bought a brand new tire since the old tire was no longer serviceable. We had no choice since we had a long way to go. Good thing the owner of the shop who fixed our tire and where we bought the new tire was very kind enough to accommodate us even if his shop was still closed. I e-mailed and wrote on their web complain section several times... Although one guy called on January 10th and he did apologise but I had to cut the call short and told him to call again since I was inside the airplane for a return flight and had to turn my mobile off... Never did I hear from him or anybody ever since! I tried to e-mail them several times but nothing - not even a computer generated answer. And to think I rented and paid almost $1,000 to a supposedly reputable company - what a waste! An Advantage turned DIS-advantage renting here. Total disaster!

Please double check any minor car damages in both the body and the windshield when using these guys and mark it on your inspection report. In fact I would take 15 minutes or more and mark ever tiny microscopic imperfection on the checkout report, even if it holds up the checkout line. They take advantage (no pun intended) of a dark rental garage to anticipate that you will miss something, which will allow them to charge you for repairs. Advantage charged us for a small gravel pit on the windshield when we returned the car. We had to do a double take for them to point this out, which was difficult to see among the other dozens or more of sand and gravel pits in this windshield.

As far as I am concerned they picked out one, which had an extremely small minor star pit and said "This is yours"! I guess it was about time for them to get a new windshield for the sand and gravel environment of Phoenix and I happened to be the lucky guy they picked for this job. I have rented all over the world and have never run into this type of situation. One star is too much for the underhanded treatment these guys give customers.

When I go to check out before leaving the rental car building the inspecting agent even told me to turn around and get another car. When I turned around to get a new car, Alexander at the Sky Harbor Airport, was very nasty and told me "to just drive it lady, it is fine!" I don't drive my personal car with any dashboard lights on so why would I pay a daily rate to drive a car with a dashboard light on. I requested a discount and Alexander said he would give me one. So when I returned the car, you guessed it, there was no discount on the car. I questioned Alexander about it and he became very hostile and was yelling at me. This was horrible customer service.

So when I arrived home I contacted the customer service and the first gentleman I spoke with was only authorized to give me a small discount ($84 for a $640 bill) and said it was a 20% discount. Ha... Far from 20% on the entire bill. I then asked to speak with his manager and I was told he would have to call me back within 24-48 hours. Well Curtis did call me back and offered another $40 but said the car was fine and didn't understand why I was upset. I explained to him I was driving in the mountains and I wasn't comfortable with any dashboard lights on. Again, he talk down to me and didn't admit any wrong. I reserved an Advantage Car using the Orbitz website. Price was good. When I arrived at the airport to get the car, I was told that the policy for local renters was different. There was to be a very large hold put on my debit card, I needed to have a copy of my insurance card, and I was limited to driving 150 miles per day. Yes, I have a local address, but I am currently caring for my parents out of state and I have to fly to Dallas from time to time to check on things at home. I had a round trip ticket from Portland to DFW. I also am fully ensured by no longer carry a paper, I used my smartphone to access my policy/numbers when needed.

Let me state that I believe that companies have the right to set their own policies however in this situation I have two major concerns: #1, These additional "rules" were not presented when I reserved the car on Orbitz. The agent said that Advantage has nothing to do with what is on the Orbitz site and that they were not responsible for that. I disagree. If they are allowing their product to be "sold" via a third agent, Advantage SHOULD make sure that the info is accurate on the site. My second major concern is the discriminatory nature of treating "local" residents differently than non-local residents - essentially putting an additional financial burden on someone because of their zip code. Sounds like discrimination to me.

I asked the agent why the policy was different for local residents. "Don't know, company policy." At that point, since I had not paid for the reservation, much to the shock of the agent, I said, "Alright, thank you very much, please give me my debit card and license back." I do carry a credit card but was not asked for that. I promptly took my business to another company in the rental complex and gladly gave them my business. At the other business, Budget, I was treated as I am treated anywhere in the country.

Companies are responsible for how they are represented, even by third parties - they can blame the "bait and switch" on the third party but because they played this game with me, they lost almost $400 in rental fees for a car that will be driven 40 miles over 5 days. Additionally, I will not rent from Advantage, ever again. This is the FIRST complaint letter I have ever written to a third party site.

The email address that printed out on my ticket was not my email address as I didn't give them one. When we returned the car an hour earlier than the time I told them it would be returned, we waited for the lady to check us out so she could give us a receipt. When she printed out our receipt, what we were being charged was twice what we agreed to based on the times I told them I needed the car.

We went into the counter in the airport and had to wait quite a long time to speak to a manager, knowing we had a flight to catch. Come to find out they were charging us X number of dollars per hour after the 24 hours we had the car. Even though I was very clear when I needed the car and received a quote for that time period. They ended up refunding us the difference they had charged, but between the lack of service on the back end and them not being straight up front, we will never use this car rental service again. This is clearly a scam: They advertise low prices and then smack you with a series of fees as well as simply and blatantly charging more than what is reflected in the receipt. Then they have a customer service that only deals with calls from people who want new reservations and not from customers that they've ripped off. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I urge those in a position to investigate this company to do so. It may be employees exploiting ways to overcharge or it could be higher up in the company, but they are stealing from their customers.

I rented a car from Advantage online through Hotwire.com. When I went to the agency they changed the contract and was charging way more than the contract stated. Trying to sell me other products which I did not need. I did not rent the car. Was told to call Hotwire back for a refund. When I called Hotwire, they attempted to refund me. Called Advantage and they told Hotwire that I never came to pick the car up, therefore I did not receive a refund. Not only did they change the contract, but lied. I did not receive a refund of my money. I only lost $63.00 but it's the principle. Contract was changed and I didn't agree with it. So I had a right not to rent the car. Now I know why I was the only one at the counter when I came to get the car.

My complaint is about an unreasonable upcharge for a "better" car. $40 a day extra was supposed to be 80% off which means the car would cost $200 per day which isn't possible. I stood in line for more than 45 minutes to rent a car and was met with ambivalence at return. The first guy said "hey, this price is reasonable, a lot of other companies charge more." The manager on duty today said, "nothing I can do - you initiated the fee." I would not recommend this firm and I will definitely never use them again. And I will continue to tell my friends to not use their service.

The agent at the Front Counter was unfriendly and not helpful. She took forever to process our rental. She tried to sell us everything involved with extra insurance but didn't have the right personality to do this. She was actually quite surly. We did not need or require extra insurance as we had it. She seemed to not understand this.

On our return the shuttle bus driver was the worst of the worst. He never assisted with the luggage and never left his seat. He drove like a maniac to the Airport and when asked where a certain Airline was all he could say was "back". We did not know and were not informed that there was just one central drop off point. I have rented cars all over the USA for many years and this experience with Advantage was the worst. I will NEVER rent from them again and neither should you. We went to the airport and got our third car. It was dirty but worked basically. When we came home, we were charged for a lot of extra tolls and taxes, never told us. We complained but did not got any response. In total, with all extra charges, we paid a lot more for our car than our friends did, rented from another bug famous company. A rental car company with this many complaints pretty much daily should not be allowed to stay in business. Daily or hourly they are taking advantage of innocent consumers expecting to get a good rental car experience. We rented from them in Maui Kahului and like other complaints I have read rented a vehicle with damage on it. They claimed to have documented the damage and when we returned it they didn't say a thing. You would think they would have used the damage sheet when the car was rented and verified then there was no new damage. They didn't say a thing. But then yesterday we get a letter from a 3rd party claims company that there was damage to the vehicle that wasn't on it when rented. This company has a nice scam going, they have probably made claims on the same car over and over again. There was no additional damage to the car at all.

Then if you try to call the corp office no one answers!!! OMG a nationwide company that no one to answer phones??? SCAM SCAM SCAM. When is the attorney general going to get involved and shut this company down??? A company that has over 400 complaints in such a short time should be drawing the attention of the government offices that are suppose to protect consumers. I know I will be making an effort to get them shut down and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau finds out about this companies practices and treatment of consumers.

This car rental company advertises very low per-day rental rates however, when you go to pick up your reserved rental car, a great deal of up-selling pressure is placed on customers. They literally insist you take not just a higher cost vehicle, but many of the accessories they have available. During drop-off, the lines are usually very long as they often have only 1 or 2 customer service representatives to assist with both new rental customers and drop-off customers so if you have a flight to catch, make sure you give yourself lots of time so you don't miss your flight.

The clerk told me that they would be placing a $200 "hold" on my credit card as a deposit until I returned the car. This was not a problem as I have had the deposit held at nearly all rental companies in the past.

When I returned the car, I was told my receipt would be emailed to me. Upon arriving home, I read the receipt and they had "charged" my card $516.77. My receipt showed an $79.00 charge for tolls plus taxes and fees and a refund for only $95 as opposed to the $200. I have discussed with customer service at both Advantage and Rentalcars.com. I was forced to place a dispute with my bank as Advantage refused to credit me and rentalcars.com needs a week to look into it.

Renter beware! I am a person who does a lot of due diligence whenever I do anything. Accordingly I made inquiries of the rental company BEFORE I booked the car. Specifically I asked if they accepted debit cards & what was the amount that would be held on the car; as is the usual practice in the industry. I was informed, on 2 different calls w/ one of their agents (one of which was a conference call with my traveling companion) that an amount between $150-$200 would be held in addition to the actual cost of the car. As you know there are many people who are traveling to training on EXTREMELY tight & exact budgets. We are among those people. We made sure that the card that we were using had the amount for the card + an extra $200 for the hold.

When we went to pick up the car we were then informed that $150-$200 was the hold placed on credit cards. For debit cards they hold $350! (Sidebar: we had a previous, similar bad experience w/ Advantage Rental Cars & vowed never to use them again. So we were horrified when we found out that EZ Rental Cars was actually Advantage!) We asked for a manager who apologized but said there was nothing that he could do. He told us that that was "building policy", meaning that all the rental agencies had the same policy. He suggested that we use Uber. We explained that we were there for a convention and had to get back and forth from the hotel to the arena on a daily basis, so that was not feasible. He told us that the only other company there that accepted rentals was Payless. But, again, they would say the same thing.

We had to be at an orientation meeting by 1:00 on Thursday. We landed @11:54. So, as you can well imagine, this whole ordeal was making us very frustrated & very late. We took a chance and went to Payless who promptly gave us a car @the same rate & without any other complications. We told them what happened & they told us that they were constantly remedying renters' issues that had initially booked with Advantage. So I will rate my car rental experience with Payless Rental Cars as A+, stellar, fantastic, awesome, will use them from now on & recommend them to any & everyone. As for Advantage/EZ you should NEVER use them. They give bad/incorrect information when asked & then do nothing on the day to assist the renter in remedying the situation.

I rented a car at the Sacramento Airport & all the car agencies at airport already charge many extra fees, which is bad enough, but they try & add any extra charge they can think of. I reserved a standard SUV online & they showed a picture of a Toyota RAV 4 so I finished my reservation. Went to Advantage at airport. Customer service person sets up contract. It says "standard SUV" so I take keys & go to vehicle, this SUV had a license plate in window so I go back to Customer Service. Told them I didn't want a vehicle with license plate in back window, so they give me a Toyota RAV 4.

I leave with vehicle & then when time to return they changed the paperwork to read "intermediate SUV" & tell me there has been an upgraded charge. I tell them, "That not right." Online it says Toyota RAV 4 is standard. The customer service rep just argues with me back & forth then tells me that there is an upgrade charge because people like to rent them. She wouldn't adjust price, so I call manager. They agree with customer service rep without really hearing my side. So I call Corporate, explain situation to them & they tell me that because the SUV was standard when I rented it & it changed later they would refund the upgrade charge of 120. A few months go by. I don't hear anything. Then I call & they said refund was issued & they gave me a date. Another month goes by then I call & they said they decided not to give me the refund because they said I was aware of the upgrade charge, which is completely false.

We were told that since we had gone through a "third party" we were lower priority and if we didn't like it we should just go rent somewhere else. After over an hour wait the counter person was rude and confrontational. She threatened to cancel my reservation because my driver's license says "William" and the name on my credit card is "Bill." Thankfully another counter person told her not to do that. The car itself is dirty and has significant damage. When we drove the car to destination 2 hours south of airport we recognized the car had 4 bald tires. We drove very reluctantly and did not go on major highways, we were appalled a car like this would be put on the road to rent. Lucky for us our family had a car and we could park this piece of junk.

When we returned to the airport we notified attendant of tires and asked what could be done for our inconvenience and safety concern. She stated rudely of course "call number on rental slip. Talk to corporate." Never even looked at tires, never with this company did we every get a response like, "we are sorry for that occurrence!"

I returned home, called corporate number, waited on hold over 40 minutes, called back twice. No surprise was not greeted nicely. Told I should have driven back to airport 2 hours to tell them about bald tires. No consideration at all for our safety concerns and inconvenience, gave us 18.00 off bill. I walked up to the front desk and handed the lady my driver's license and credit card and she asked if I was familiar with their policies. I was a little taken back by that question so I said "I guess not. I rent vehicles quite regularly from other agencies and have never been asked that question". That's when she told me that there was a 150 mile limit on all vehicles and additional miles were 0.55 cents/mile.

I asked the lady to cancel the reservation for me and she said she would. I prepaid for my reservation online before I got there and was never told that. Long story short, they got me for $37.00. As a previous customer stated I'm only giving this one star because it's not possible to give it zero. Let me start with the fact that our family used Advantage in the past and had an awful experience concerning the type of car we reserved & the car they tried forcing us to take. It was one problem after another at the reservation desk & the rudest employees we'd ever dealt with. My husband swore he'd never use the company again. Unfortunately, I was taking our five children to Florida alone a couple weeks ago and handled all the transportation arrangements myself - trying to save my husband the hassle. I didn't remember the name of the company he didn't like and forgot to ask him. When he found out he couldn't believe I actually reserved a car with them. After realizing what I did I tried to be optimistic thinking maybe this time would be better. WAS I WRONG!!!

My awful experience started the second I walked up to the rental counter. I intentionally reserved and paid for a large SUV. The employee taking care of me told me that it was a busy season & he didn't have an SUV, he had a minivan. I politely argued saying I didn't want a minivan, I reserved an SUV. He then sarcastically told me when you make a reservation you aren't guaranteed what you reserve, you are guaranteed a vehicle with 4 wheels. I asked how long of a wait it would be until an SUV was available. He stated he might have one in 4 or 5 hours but I couldn't count on it.

With 5 children staring at me ready to start their vacation I couldn't exactly wait so I took the mini van. Fine - not what I wanted - but fine, I could deal with it. To be honest I was more angry and upset with how I was spoke to and the rudeness of the employee than the vehicle I'd be driving. Had that been the only problem I probably wouldn't take the time out to write to the BBB. I would've just warned friends and family about the scam they run and NEVER use them again. Thankfully the van did not give us any problems during the week.

The biggest problem came on the very last day when it was time to return it. Now let me back up & tell you I picked up the van in Miami, the return location was to be West Palm Beach airport all of which is in the agreement that's documented on all my paperwork. I plan our departure morning with what I thought was plenty of time to get to the airport, return the rental, take the shuttle & check all our bags. We look up the Advantage car rental airport address, type it in our GPS, and half an hour later we arrive at an address that doesn't even somewhat resemble a car rental business.

I attempt to call the 1-800 number to speak to someone & wait on hold while one of my daughters tries to look up any information she can to get us where we need to be. She finds another address she thinks will work. We have no choice but to try it so off we go. The next place we pull in to is at least closer to the airport but again not a return location. At this point I'm still on hold and getting upset and nervous not knowing what I'm supposed to do and knowing I've wasted a lot of time I didn't plan on. I decide to drive to the airport to look for any signs that say Advantage.

After circling the airport several times and not seeing any signs I pull in to an Avis to ask if they know where Advantage is. The security guard gives me directions to the Hilton where she says they are located. We then head to the Hilton. I run inside to ask where I should leave my vehicle and they tell me Advantage hasn't used their location for a long time. By now I'm nearly in tears - I have 5 kids in the car, our flight leaves in less than an hour, and a mini van that I can't drop off.

Within the hour and a half we've wasted I've tried every phone number and address possible and cannot get ahold of anybody to help me. As a last resort I drive back to Avis & beg some of the workers to help me. I explain my situation and ask if I can please leave the van there so we don't miss our flight. The manager agrees so I promise to contact Advantage as soon as possible to get someone to pick up the van. My children and I had to run through the airport to make our flight. To say my morning was stressful is a gross understatement. Not only did we almost miss our flight, I had the worry of leaving the rental.

As soon as our plane landed I called the Advantage 1-800 number again. I waited on hold for over 40 minutes before finally getting to speak to someone. Once I explained what happened she told me she'd have to have a 'consultant specialist' call me back. I was barely able to get my name & phone number out before she hung up on me. It's 24 hours later and I still haven't heard from anyone. I've sent two emails, left a voicemail and called multiple times trying every extension possible to talk to someone. No one ever answers the phone. Meanwhile the van I rented is sitting at the airport. Never use this company! I've never come across so many incompetent individuals! I honestly don't understand how they are allowed to remain in business!

I requested a car online and when I showed up to the location at Denver International Airport I was informed that I couldn't rent a car because I had outstanding toll charges from the previous year on my account. This was after waiting in line for 30 min in the middle of the night. They had all my contact information and no one ever contacted me about this nor was I notified when I rented the car online. Beyond that, I looked at my planner and I knew for sure I was not in the state of Colorado at the time they were claiming I used the toll roads and I could prove it.

The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and informative and tried everything in his power to help me or get someone but Advantage does not give him the tools or support he needs in the middle of the night. I decided I would just pay the fees, take the car, and deal with it the next day because I was exhausted and the poor people in the huge line behind me were waiting even longer. He then warned me that if I signed and paid I was admitting fault. I tried to wake some friends up in the middle of the night but no one answered. I decided to pay and never rent from them again because that was better than sitting there until morning.

The next day corporate apologized and sent me a 2 day free voucher and 20% off. I just tried to use that voucher and the same nice gentleman was there at 2 am when I arrived. He told me he's not allowed to honor the voucher, management has to do it. He asked me if I could bring the car back before midnight on the day of return and present it then. I had a friend bring me back on day 2 at 8 pm. The girl at the counter gave me attitude. She called a guy over who called the manager who was supposed to help me.

The manager said over the phone I have to rent the car for longer than 2 days to use. It does not say that anywhere on the voucher and the goal should be to make up for my horrible experience and keep my business, not try to get more money out of me. He then said I was returning the car early!! Um yes, because I was asked to in order for you to be here and why do they care if they get the car back at 8 pm, in time to rent it out again the night instead of 2am?? It's only 6 hrs early! So then they took my voucher and the manager said he would take care of it in the morning. He never came out to help me!

It's now 6 days later and nothing has been done. I called and they told me corporate has to handle this and they are gone so someone will call me. Nothing. I filled out a complaint and asked to be contacted. Nothing. I called and sat on hold for 1:15 (all this while on my vacation) and then their system hung up on me so I had to email again.

If I could give this company a negative rating, I would do so. They discriminate against local renters by limiting the mileage which was hidden in the fine print of a generic website that listed many companies. A friend said I better check on the mileage issue since they had a problem with Advantage. When I called the rude representative at Advantage, they confirmed that they did in fact discriminate against local renters by limiting daily mileage. When I cancelled the reservation, I was billed a $50 cancellation fee which should be illegal. They are charging for a service never received. Many other companies do not limit mileage for locals such as Alamo. So take my advice and NEVER use this company. I see a lot of other bad reviews here so obviously they don't care; they know they won't get repeat business so they have to stick it to the customer at first opportunity.

This is the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a so-called business. I rented a car through CARRENTALS.COM and was given a confirmation number and a local car rental agency's (ADVANTAGE CAR RENTAL) phone number and address to pick up the car. So I went to the address but there was another business there. I tried to call the phone number but the number was disconnected. OK, so I looked up their main number and called it and they told me that the location I was given has been closed for a while and I would have to pick up the car at the airport.

OK, I got to the airport and no one's there but there is a note telling you to call this number if you want service, so I call that number and someone told me that they would be there in a while. OK, fifteen minutes goes by and I am still waiting so I called again, but this time the young man rudely tells me that he is on his break and that I would have to wait. I was sympathetic to an employee working alone and having to go on a break.

So he shows up with an attitude and I told him I have a reservation for a car. He takes my identification and tells me that because I was a local resident I had to have full coverage insurance to rent a car because locals usually damage cars more than tourists. OK, IS THAT SO, HAH. FINE, but at no point when I was making the reservation was there any information about policies concerning locals. Trying to get a refund is an even bigger headache. I have, frankly, had better service in third world countries. Renters beware.

(Renting a car from MSP) The van that I rented for my family was not clean and the interior smelled like POT smoke! I informed the garage agent of these things. He said if I wanted another car I would need to go back to the airport to redo my paperwork to get another car (I was traveling with my 4 kids under 10). Then I asked if I was supposed to fill out a form for any damages I found before I took the car. Then he said "we are only worried about major damage to the vehicle". I insisted that I needed a form anyway. He then, begrudgingly handed me a small form to fill out and quickly took it from me. I will never return to Advantage Rent-A-Car.

This company does not deserve 1 star. If I could give them a 0 I would. I requested a car through Priceline.com. The rental indicated unlimited mileage and the car was to be picked up from CTL Airport on Friday and returned on Tuesday. Total cost $205. My daughter and her husband get there well before the 12:30 pm pickup time. Then that's when everything went bad. They told my daughter that since she had NC driver license they would not get the unlimited mileage and would only receive 150 miles per day. After over an hour going back and forth with the agent about the additional .55 cents per mile. I contacted Priceline and the initial customer service rep advised they would pay the difference. I just needed to fax in my receipts.

Advantage then told my daughter that Priceline was not going to pay us back. (As if to say, they have encountered this before?) Which was none of her business. My daughter and her husband advised they would go ahead and rent the car. The agent stepped away from the counter and when they returned, began to explain all of the additional fees. $200 deposit plus another $150 "NC Car Rental Deposit". Grant you, I had already paid for the additional rental insurance. I've rented cars before from other reputable companies in NC for out of state travel and have never paid a "NC Car rental Deposit". On top of just the normal deposit.

We were unable to be together for Christmas so everyone was meeting at my house New Year's Eve to exchange gifts and have a "second Christmas". So even with the absurd fees, my daughter and her husband needed the rental car and this was 1 day before New Year's Eve and they were bringing my mother with them to visit me in Georgia and we had not made any other arrangements. We agreed to pay the deposits, with the understanding that the deposits would be refunded when the car was returned. This is now 1 1/2 hours later, but still prior to the 12:30 pm pickup. The agent all of a sudden says "I'm sorry we no longer have your car available." We were furious. How is that when my daughter never left the airport, vehicle was never cancelled and it was still well before the 12:30 pm pickup? Agent looks again and states, "oh we were able to switch the other customer out"...

So now we think they could finally get the rental and be on their way. The agent proceeds to take my son-in-law to the SUV we reserved on Priceline and while they are looking over the vehicle, a supervisor comes out and says, "I'm sorry but we don't rent SUVs to local NC residence?" What? Are you kidding? I'm on the phone and my daughter and her husband are just beside ourselves. They have now been there for 2 hrs and now you are telling us you won't even rent them the car? My daughter asked if they could rent a minivan, initially the answer was yes, but then once back inside, the agent literally was telling them they needed to go to another rental company and began looking up rates for other companies?

By this time, we are furious and exhausted from being given the runaround and the Advantage customer service number was absolutely no help. One just kept blaming the other and the 800 rep was limited in what they could do??? We eventually found, no thanks to Advantage, another rental company that had an SUV available and were able to go to use that rental company with absolutely no problems and no "NC Rental deposit" and my family arrived safely to Georgia. Even though we ended up paying twice the amount that was quoted on Priceline, in the end, I am absolutely sure we saved ourselves even more headaches and frustration, had we actually rented a car from Advantage.

I have expressed my concerns with Priceline and their business ethics, to falsely advertise unlimited mileage for a company that may have stipulations. This is truly a "bait and switch" relationship. After further discussing with Priceline, the second and third associate I spoke with at Priceline proceeded to tell me that Advantage's contract with them does indicate that they "may" have stipulations on the mileage. My discussion with Priceline was, as a consumer, using their Priceline product, my reservation says unlimited mileage and regardless of what their agreement is with Advantage, I have detrimentally relied on the information they provided me on their Priceline website and my contract is with Priceline.

There should be visible notification to the consumer to call or check rates/mileage, instead of advertising and making reservations with no restrictions and providing confirmation indicating "unlimited mileage". I will have second thoughts before I book through Priceline. I would never recommend Advantage Rental to anyone. They are unreliable and are not trustworthy.

After being greeted without a hello the person left me standing at the counter to help another agent. Upon returning to help me I was told I could upgrade my vehicle for an additional $115.00. When I said no thank you and paid with a debit card, an additional $200.00 was added to my bill and I was told they would do a credit check on me. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to comply since I was standing there with four pieces of luggage and no transportation to go to another car rental company. Let us review what happened: Our daughter and her family arrive at the airport around 6:10 pm and get on the shuttle to go to Terminal A. They call us at 6:27 pm and tell us they are on the shuttle. LGA is under construction and you have to go to Terminal A to get to the rental car shuttles. The shuttle takes about an hour and barely moves. She and her husband travel a lot, so they call and tell 800-777-5500 Advantage that they are on their way, but their flight was delayed and they are now sitting on the shuttle to nowhere. They are told their car has been canceled. They say it can't be so, even they can't cancel their reservation. It is prepaid and should be held for them up to 1 am. The Advantage 800# tells them that the local LGA rental center has canceled it. Our daughter and her husband and toddler tell them they need a car.

They then transfer them to the LGA car center and someone does pick up. They are told that their car was canceled since they didn't pick it up past one hour from their noon pickup time. Our daughter told them that they can't cancel her reservation and she can see on their website they are open until 1 am and she is on her way and to find her a car. She is then told that they have no other cars and they are closing at 8:30 pm and to not come. This is the night before Thanksgiving. No way they are closing at 8:30 pm. They are told with how slow the shuttle is they will not get there and they will be closed and have no cars. They have luggage, a car seat, a toddler and they have to yet get to the Hampton's. They are hysterical, as you can imagine. We, as her parents call the 800# on their confirmation for Advantage.

Paul is told their car was cancelled because they did not pick it up at their pickup time and there are no other cars and we have to email support@carrentals.com. He asks for a telephone number and they say they have no way to call Car Rentals. That they (Car Rentals) are our contact and they are only a subcontractor to Car Rentals and any complaints need to go to Car Rentals. We ask, how do they get us another car if we can't even call them? Paul asks them to transfer him to the local rental at LGA and he lets it ring for over twenty rings until it just stops. I then call the 800 # and ask how can they possibly cancel the car and I am told it was cancelled by accident. I then tell them that the car rental station that our daughter was transferred to said they closed at 8:30 pm and they had no more cars. Advantage tells me that the station cancelled the car. That they (the Advantage 800 #) can't cancel a car.

I ask to speak to a supervisor and I am told no one can do anything else for me. That even a supervisor has no way to cancel a car or to reach Car Rentals. That we need to email support@carrentals.com and they will give us a refund, but they have no way to get us another car. I tell them we don't want a refund. We want a car so they can drive to the Hampton's. We are told that they cannot help us. I can tell the person in the Call Center wants to tell me more, but stays quiet. I am sure it is hard to hear a mother cry because you have left her children stranded at LGA.

I again call back. I am on the house phone now where we are staying. The person I am talking to tells me that I am correct, that the reservation was cancelled in error, but they (the Advantage Call Center) can't fix it. They say that the station at LGA is open until 1 am. I ask, again, to be transferred there and I let the phone ring for an eternity. No one picks up the phone. We then call our daughter and she and her family get off the shuttle bus at Terminal A and they call for an Uber. They get on the Uber. They are quoted a rate of $400. Once on the freeway they notice the driver is driving erratically and the car smells. He is swerving around and driving past the speed limit. They ask him to slow down. Finally, they call Uber and they are told to ask the driver to stop the car and pull over at the next exit. They then have to get out of the car, wait with the toddler, luggage and car seat and wait for another Uber to pick them up.

They wait on the curb to flag down the new car. It is dark, cold and raining. They get to the Hampton's around 11 pm at night. Uber did not charge them for the first portion of the ride due to safety issues with the driver. They then had to use taxis in the Hampton's as our car would not fit the car seat and two other people. We then had to order a car to take them back to LGA because our car would not fit all of us. If my husband did the drive he would have given up five hours from the last day of our trip. We did not leave until 8:30 pm. They left at 8 am in the morning to get there for a noon flight. The car was $250.

Now, Advantage says Car Rentals is our contact. Car Rentals is blaming Advantage saying WE as their Client, need to supply Car Rentals with all this information with documentation. I kept telling them Advantage made the mistake and they needed to fix it while the family was still on the shuttle. All we heard was email support@carrentals.com. They knew immediately right away that the LGA station cancelled the car by mistake. Now they want me and my family to dig up all of this additional information to make their case with Advantage.

I don't have time for this **, but I sure as hell am not going to let a company that made such a unimaginable mistake not own up to it. We have had to supply Car Rentals with Uber receipts, car service receipts and now our phone records to show we actually called the 800 # and at what time. Obviously, since I took the time and came up with everything they asked of me, I am not lying. I am a super busy person, but Advantage messed up and they messed up with the wrong family.

We rented a car from Advantage through Expedia at the airport in Orlando and mentioned that we arrive at 7pm. We got a confirmation with pick-up time 10:30 am, thinking that this is correct because we pay for the whole day. When we arrived the person from Advantage just told us that our car was cancelled because we did not pick it up within 2 hours after pick-up time. In the confirmation was nothing written from this 2 hours limit and also not on the homepage from Advantage. We were left without car and had to get a car from an other company and that in the evening at Thanksgiving for a much higher price.

When I called later the customer service they just told me that it was my fault and hung up. I cannot recommend Advantage because of the lack of information for the car rental, also through a third party, and the very unfriendly customer service. People at the front desk and customer service were very unfriendly and not willing to help.

I rented a vehicle from the JFK location in New York and requested a car seat. The cost was $70 for a week. My primary complaint, aside from the poor and disorganized service at most of their locations, is that the car seat was stored in an old metal shed adjacent to the location where they clean out the cars. This particular area was a real mess due to the nature of the work being done there. There were garbage cans overflowing at each car service area (4 in total I believe) and with this mess comes not just paper but food and soft drink spillage. As mentioned earlier the 'storage' shed for the car seats is adjacent to this area. It struck me that the shed, with all of its various car seats simply thrown in there was a prime location for vermin to frequent. The seat we received did have food remnants on it.

Additionally, the car seat was in such poor condition that we almost refused it but did not want to endanger our child even on what could have been a short trip to a retail store to purchase a new one. It took us 20 minutes to clean and unravel the belts and seat cover - no one there offered to help. We had to 'rig' the belts to fasten them so the seat would not tip forward in a sudden stop. Unacceptable conditions for something the public relies upon for their children. First, there should be a law and policing for the proper condition of child seats provided by any rental agency and second, there should be some oversight by the health department as to the storage and cleanliness of child seats. Shame on you Advantage and shame on you New York State - the fees and taxes you charge should guarantee cleanliness and safety.

Tired from a 20 hours fly, I finally accepted to change all conditions of the reservation: limited mileage where the reservation specify unlimited mileage. Agreed and signed for 200 Dollars rental deposit and I found he charged another 150 for eventual road violations!! To be refund in 21 days after rental end. He put time to return earlier than the time of rental and finally the car had virtually no rubber left on the tires making it extremely dangerous to drive. As a good note must say that the Advantage agent in the parking lot promptly and kindly change the car with a better one, dirty but in good conditions.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT rent from this Advantage. First of all, when we got our rental car that day, the whole inside was soaking wet because they left the windows down during a thunderstorm. When we went back to request a new dry vehicle, we were told that this was the only one available and that it would "eventually dry out for us". NO apology. NOT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Secondly, they tack on a bunch of additional charges and refuse to explain them to you in detail initially when you rent the car.

I rented in Denver, and I really was not familiar with the area, with toll areas, etc. The employee helping me stated that I shouldn't run into tolls around where I was planning to drive, so I did not add the toll service coverage. Fast forward 5 months later (I rented a car in June, and it is now November) I noticed additional charges on my checking account from advantage in Denver. I called Advantage to speak with a representative regarding these charges, and the answer I received was "it appears that you went through a toll area and you did not have toll coverage".

I explained that the representative that set me up with the rental car in June had stated that I did not need toll coverage since I was staying in the Denver area. The representative on the phone stated that he was sorry that this occurred, but I should have inquired specifically where the toll areas were to begin with. I guess I should have asked for a road map of tolls??? I also was upset because this charge should have been added months ago, especially when I rented the car in June!!! Terrible company. Terrible customer service. Terrible contracts. Terrible cars. Advantage really DOES take FULL advantage of their customers. I will never rent from this company again. Beware!!!

I have rented from Advantage Rent A Car several times. Every single time I have rented from them, I always have always had an issue with the tire pressure indicator coming on during the course of my rental. For the first time, I simply filled the tires with air, and the tire pressure indicator would come on and off. I returned the car and let them know of the issue. The second time I rented from them, the same issue with the tire pressure indicator steady on, but because of my first experience having to constantly fill the tires, I immediately went back to their office to switch out the car.

The third time I rented from them -- it was a terrifying experience. I was driving the rental car down the Tampa highway when all of a sudden the car started shaking and vibrating. The tire pressure indicator blinked on and off (more like flashing on and off). I immediately pulled to the side of the road to check the tires, but all four tires seemed ok. Then I went back onto the highway to get to the nearest exit, and less than a minute later, the front driver side tire blew out. I almost hit another car trying to swerve into the median. The tire was completely shredded. And I know for a fact that I did not run over any potholes, and I know I did not run over anything because I would have felt it (unless it was a nail, but I think the issue with the vibrating meant there was something wrong with the alignment).

I had to wait 1 hour (with my child in the car) for AAA to arrive and have the car towed to the nearest Advantage office, which was over 50 miles away. This is what I truly believe: Advantage does not maintain the tires on their rental cars. Maybe they even buy cheap used tires to replace the worn out ones. Maybe they even patch up the holes in their tires, hoping their customers will eat the bill for new ones so they don't have to pay. Also, they don't do a good job of cleaning their cars. I found a man's undergarment underneath the front passenger seat and Burger King wrappers stuffed in the glove compartment from the previous renters.

3 weeks later I get a bill from them demanding $107 to cover the tire replacement. I call Advantage and I tell them that they failed to maintain the tires and I was given a rental car with a faulty defective tire. They tell me I still have to pay them because the tire was damaged during my use of the car. They did not tell me this when I returned the car with the towing company witnessing. Also, when I filled out their incident report, they told me nothing about having to pay for the tire.

NEVER AGAIN. I am never renting from Advantage Rent A Car again. They put my life and my daughter's life in danger by failing to maintain their rental car tires. I have never ever had an issue with Hertz, Avis, or Budget in regards to renting cars. Only Advantage. Do yourself a favor and keep out of danger by not renting from Advantage Rent a Car. There is one thing I notice ---- Advantage Rent a Car does not have offices in any airports near me. I notice when I rent from car rental agencies in the airport, I don't have tire pressure problems with the rental cars. Maybe Advantage Rent a Car is offsite for a reason that I am unaware of. I do not trust this company. I can't be the only one who has experienced this with Advantage Rent A Car and I hope other people come forward as well.

Got to the LGA location 30 minutes before my reservation, place was packed and a lot of unhappy people. I was observing people getting turned down, I was surprised because these people had reservations.

When I got my turn, a good 45 minutes after my arrival at the place, this lady goes with an attitude "rental insurance?" I showed her my rental insurance bought, she turned around to the worker by her side they smile and then proceeds to tell me. "Your rental is cancelled, you need to own a car with insurance and use that insurance, company policy." I told her "sell me an insurance", the response was they do not do that. I said "I have a credit card," she said no. And then went "NEXT." I told her "hold on I have questions". She went with an attitude of shaking her head and waving with hands that I was not getting any car and I would get full refund and went like crazy... "NEXT NEXT". Very very disrespectful and unfriendly.

I called hotwire and not even them were aware of this insurance policy. Went on Advantage website no where is this policy stated. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! I would give a -5 if possible. I would have to wait 3-4 hours for them to come as well. Nice way to spend my last day in Hawaii. (Called AAA and they were very helpful, discovered and fixed the problem which was caused by the Advantage Car Rental mechanic putting a wrong part on the vehicle. When we complained (pointing out that we have been waiting for more than 2 hours wasting an entire morning while not even getting what we booked and having to pay the same price for something smaller) she started yelling and being physically aggressive, punching her fists on the desk.

Her colleague arrived and started insulting me and my whole family and he said that if we had any complaints we should "go tell Obama" (please note he wasn't even present when the problem arised). He refused to give us his name. I asked for a manager and they said no one was there. I'm simply speechless at the whole experience. Stay away from them. Given the hundreds of negative reviews I'm surprised they are still in business.

We got the brick wall "policy" speech which really makes me mad! Every company needs to make exceptions if customer service is important to them. THESE PEOPLE DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Called when we got home. Same "policy" speech. The agent was talking over me and wouldn't let me speak. NEVER use them again! Shame on you!

I was upgraded to a mid-size car which was much smaller than I had anticipated - a VW Jetta. After being up for 12 hours and another 4 hours to go driving I was not about to go back into the agent to complain as I was running on adrenaline by that time. The Sun was setting when I pulled out of the airport and the windows were caked with dirt inside and out, a film on it which made it hard to see front and back.

The car when we entered smelled like stake smoke also. I plugged in my Garmin which I had pre-programmed and followed the instructions. The cigarette lighter did not work nor did the back outlet so after 2 hours my Garmin battery died, right when I needed it most. I did have maps with so resorted back to them as it was getting dark, difficult. I spent the week with this under powered econobox. It did get good gas mileage but that was a small factor when the price of gas was hovering around $2.00 per gallon. Going to look elsewhere when renting my next car.

Since I didn't want to wait with my wife in this area for a 15-minute wait, and a 15 minute shuttle ride, I attempted to cancel the reservation, and go with a reputable Car Rental, actually on site at the airport. I called the number listed on the confirmation, and was told to go to the website. The website tells you to call the number where you made the reservation! Totally bogus cancellation policy, so they get to keep my money (stealing). Never Rent a car from Advantage, period.

I rented an SUV through the Nashville airport for a family vacation. I picked up the vehicle around 9 pm the night before leaving on my trip. You never get the vehicle you sign up for... So I had a couple of choices and chose the larger SUV, a Kia Sorento. I had to cross two roads to a parking garage where I made my way to the 3rd booth and someone handed me keys through a small window for the car parked in stall #35! No one walked with me to the vehicle to inspect it. I left town at 8 am the next morning and after 3 hours into my drive, I heard a terrible noise that frightened me! My son-in-law said it sounded like a broken belt. So we exited the interstate to inspect the vehicle, afraid we might end up stranded. I had family about 45 miles further from us, so I asked them to wait on us since I wasn't sure what the problem was (but knew it was not a problem under the hood).

As I pulled into a gas station to meet them, they saw the driver's side underneath bumper was cracked and had been tied up with a plastic straw!!! It had broken loose and was flapping with the wind. I have time and date stamped pictures of the damage along with 6 witnesses. Since I knew there was no danger, we continued on our trip. When I returned the vehicle to Advantage at the Nashville airport, I told the attendant what had happened. She thanked me and I went on my way. More than SIX weeks later, I received a call from my car insurance agent asking me if everything was ok since there was a claim on my car and he hadn't heard from me. Come to find out, Advantage is filing a repair claim against my insurance company for damage I didn't cause!!! Apparently they don't know who did it since they don't seem to inspect their vehicles before and after rentals.

My insurance company will deny the claim since it is $950 and I have a $1000 deductible. Advantage never contacted me to ask any questions or let me know they were turning this claim over to my insurance company. I have tried to call and never reach a person. I emailed someone in the corporate office and never heard back from him. If they try to turn this claim over to collections I will file a lawsuit against them! It is terrible that a company would mistreat their customers and take advantage of them (especially someone trying to do the right thing by reporting prior damage I discovered and did not cause)!!! I still have all my documentation, photos, etc. I will NEVER rent a car from this company again... and will think twice about renting any car after this situation. ALL RENTERS BEWARE! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS SNEAKY, UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY!!!

When I went to the EZ counter no one was in and then someone finally came by and directed me to Advantage who I guess runs EZ. He asked if I wanted insurance. I told him "no". I was fully covered with Allstate. The agent put a hash mark on a check list and asked me to initial 7 or so blanks to waive insurance, It had been a long flight and all I wanted to do was get to hotel. I didn't take the time to read the fine print and just initialed as I was directed. Come to find out they have purposely hidden charges and unclear services in their contract. So rather than declining half the initials are accepting other services. Including a couple of different insurance options that I had told the agent I didn't want.

It was classic upsell with confusing forms and terms, dropped when the customer is vulnerable, And not even close to the bid I had purchased through Travelocity. It is set up in such a way I have to believe it is company policy not just this agent. The bill seemed higher than I remembered, but I was in a hurry. It wasn't till later when comparing to my original bid that they had added insurance charges including claiming the agents hash mark was my initials.

I tried to contact customer service. Complete joke. Kept getting "please hold a agent will be with you". Tried back multiple times same result. Finally decided to wait them out. Sat on hold for 1 hour and was disconnected by them. Left an email still no contact. Contacted Visa to dispute the charges, thought they might have better luck. He couldn't get through either and declined payment. Then they replied only to claim the agents mark was my initials. End result Buyer Beware, don't believe what counter agent says to your face, read all small print and don't pay till they get it right. Realize what "Advantage" stands for. I would give them 1 star but the car itself and pick up and drop off staff did a good job.

I thought the whole front end was going to fall off. I've never experience this in my life!!! I was so scared of trucks were gonna run me over because I was afraid of pulling over before I could find a safe exit and not knowing where the heck I was getting off at. I was frightened and scared.

All the company compensated for was $30.00 off and an upgrade. The car I was upgraded to the tires sounded so loud at a high speed. Passengers had to yell loudly for me to hear them, no music on. Ridiculous. I did not read the review before, boy am I sorry. Never again. I'll pay a higher price for reliability, much more worth it. Back to Avis or Budget.

They didn't have any cars period for anyone who had made same type of reservation but still went ahead and charged us without offering any service. And I repeat I did not get a rent a car from Advantage, better said they did not have any car to offer that day. In order to cancel that transaction I would have to call carrentals.com whom customer service number is non-existent or very difficult to find.

As of today I haven't been able to contact carrentals.com and to correct charges I have dispute it through the credit card company. In my intent to correct this issue with Advantage I exhausted every possible option, front desk, customer service, claim department etc. The last person I spoke to mentioned the same excuse and even told me that if I wasn't capable of listening she would hang up on me. No refund for any reservation made with third parties (carrentals.com) regardless of customer using their services or not, they will charge no matter what and tried to get away with it. This is a "legal" scam and ripping off regular people doesn't make them a honest or good company to request service from. Advantage should not be servicing us.

I used Advantage Rent a Joke at LGA in NYC. Reservation was made over the phone, not once was I told that I would need my own liability insurance because I live within 65 miles of the location. Not one single person felt the need to advise us of this before setting up our reservation. It is not on their website, its not on their confirmation letter to you. So basically you are screwed once you get there. What I find ironic is that their location is conveniently shared with Thrifty and or Dollar rent a car. Which if you didn't know is affiliated with Advantage. Against my better judgement I decided to go with them since I did have liability insurance. I rented the car for one day. Just one day.

Because I was running late. on the day I was returning the car I decided to call customer service, spoke to Jasmine who told me on a RECORDED LINE that I would be charged one day rental fee if I bought the car after 3 hours from the original time of return. I did find that odd, so I asked her if what she was telling was that I had within 3 hours to return the car and I would NOT get charged. She said yes. Again I asked so I would be charged nothing if I bring the car within the 3 hours. She said Yes. Well that was a LIE. Upon getting to location I was charged 3 additional hours and that was because I was on the phone with a supervisor named Megan who said she heard the recording and she did hear Jasmine say I would get charged nothing... but that it was a mistake.

How about honoring what your employee stated to me on a recorded line? Why bother recording the conversation if you are not going to do anything? Megan's only suggestion was for me to call Customer Care the next day. I spoke to Edgar who kept telling me to read my contract. It's funny how he expected me to read my contract yet Jasmine doesn't know the terms of the establishment she works for. But that is okay. He did refund me one hour because he realized that the reason it went over three hours was because I was on the phone with Megan and she locked my profile so the lady behind the counter couldn't check me out. I asked the lady behind the desk for the local number, she gave me a number which no one picks up.

I accidentally left my EZ pass in the car, so I showed up at the location the very next day and first I was told the car was already rented. Then 20 minutes later she tells me there is nothing in the car. I know that EZ pass was in the car. Someone there took it. So not only are they liars, they also keep what they find in the cars. Customer service is pathetic, it's like no one cares. Not the people at the counter. Not the people who answer their toll free numbers. Do yourself a favor and do not rent from them. I regret not reading the reviews. Ended up paying over 300.00 for a car which I had to put my own liability insurance on. Very upset with the whole entire company! Don't believe try calling them yourself at 718-424-8504 or 718-651-7269. Those are numbers given to me and no one ever picks up the phone at the LGA counter.

I have been charged way too much money for renting a car for 4 days. I have arrived late in Denver due to a flight cancellation and still with a prorated rate, I ended up paying 345$ prepaid + 325$ after I returned a car. This is simply unacceptable, especially since I have only rented a car from Thursday to Sunday. First of all, I did NOT order a HUGE SUV. Only a regular car such as Toyota Corolla. However, due to 75 car shortage I have been forced to take a large SUV, Hyundai Santa Fe. Therefore I had to take out insurance on it, because I have never driven such a huge car, especially out of state. I wasn’t planning on taking out insurance as I have my own car insurance from CA, but I felt like I didn’t have a choice and it was too much to risk.

Secondly, I have been told that if I don’t take out toll pass for 39.99 I will be charged 25$ every time I have entered a toll! When I told that to my CO friends, they were shocked to hear that. It was hot and crowded at the location. I waited a long time in line and I have agreed on that in fear that I will drive on toll roads and will be charged so much money. Thirdly, I have chosen not to fill my tank for 39.76 and I returned the car with being close to empty and I still don’t know if I was charged extra for that or not. I only know that I was charged 325$ because of my credit card bill. To sum it up, I think it’s insane to charge someone 670$ for 4 day car rental!!!

This was a trip to visit my mother, who lives in Poland. She was visiting Colorado, so I just met her there and the price for the car has severely increased the cost of my few days trip. I have rented cars from many companies in many different cities, but I have never been charged so much money for it, especially that I did not want that big SUV and I didn't want to take out an insurance for it, since it wasn’t in my budget. That’s why I have reserved the car online and prepaid 345$ and did not anticipate those extra costs, not mentioning all the extra fees, such as 59.31$ concession fee, energy surcharge, taxes, etc, etc. I know that I have signed and agreed to the term. I am not stupid. However, I firmly believe that 670$ for a 4 day car rental is overly excessive and not fair. It left me a bad taste in my mouth and a hole in my wallet.

Lastly, I have been trying to connect with one of the representatives from lost and found, because I have left my sunglasses inside the car and no one is able to help me via phone or writing me back for the past few days. This is beyond frustrating and unacceptable. How hard is it to call back regarding left sunglasses?? They were over 150$ worth and I call everyday asking and they are clueless telling me it's hard to contact Denver "busy" location, but no one is ever calling me back!!! I am beyond disappointed and frustrated.

We were about 25 miles from Denver and the molding around the windshield starting coming off and flapping on the window. We spent the next two hours driving around to the three Advantage locations listed in Colorado Springs on our map app. After finding none of them, we spent about 40 minutes on hold seeing how we could get this fixed. They told me we didn't have roadside assistance and we would be responsible for getting the vehicle back to Denver.

We then drove into the mountains and the brakes began going out, getting hot and grabbing. Again, we would have to pay for the towing back. When we switched drivers, I adjusted the seat but when we attempted to readjust the seat for my tall husband, it would not move. My husband could hardly get in the car. Advantage may be less expensive but next time I will gladly pay extra in order to get a well-maintained vehicle with a company that should I need to contact them with concerns, I would not be hung up on. Unlike other car rental companies, Advantage will charge you $50 if you cancel a pay-ahead reservation. This fee is noted in their rental policy, however, because full reimbursement is the norm with most car rental companies if you cancel your reservation, I feel that Advantage should disclose this fee directly on the "payment" page, not in the thick of their wordy policy. Very deceitful. Customer service was very rude on the phone when I called, will never book with again.

I will not rent from Advantage car rental again. They put a hold on your credit card for $200 and also the amount of the rental car agreement. I cannot get the deposit returned (or hold removed) for 7-10 days AFTER I've turned in the car and been billed for it. They are using my money and also causing me to pay more interest to my credit card company. The value would be ok without the extra $200. With that added the value decreases.

He called and attempted to get our refund. No luck. I called and was told to email a certain person and explain the situation, which I did. 7 days later, no response. I would like my $357.47 back. I rented a car at the Phoenix Airport. The pick up is in the basement and not very well lit. I did not notice any damage. I had to keep the car a day longer and Advantage told me I would be charged double the price of the first day. What can I do? When I returned the car, the agent showed me a very small chip in the windshield and I was told I would not be billed, because they change the windshield for free in AZ. The chip was so small that it could have been there when I picked it up, as far as I know, but I did not notice. Because of the bad lighting, I would have not been able to see it. A week later I was billed $75: $25 for estimate of damage (which makes me think they will not fix it and charge again the next customer for the same chip!) AND $50 for an administrative fee! I think Advantage is NOT an honest company. I will make sure to avoid them in future.

Right then and there I should have told them we would return the car full. When we went to place our card that was to be used for this transaction. We were informed then, that we're putting a $200.00 safety deposit and would get a full refund when we returned the car. When we returned our car. Our paper work showed that we didn't get the full refund back. There was a surcharge for them putting a $200.00 hold on our card. Bad business. I will never use them again.

Do NOT rent a car from this place. If I could give them zero stars, I would. My sister and I flew in to visit our aunt, who had reserved this car online from Advantage. She pre-paid online. When my sister went to pick the car up, the attendant asked if she wanted to add additional rental car insurance. My sister replied "No, I don't want to pay for anything extra..." Fast forward and she was initialing besides all of the questions that rental companies normally have you do, such as all of the things you decline. She was reading each item before signing but the attendant was annoyed and rushed her, so my sister quickly signed the last 2 or 3 statements.

The attendant then said, "We have to place a $200 hold on your credit card." This was AFTER they asked for my sister's social security number to run a credit check on her (I have NEVER had a rental car company ask for my SS number before). Unbeknownst to her, the attendant ALSO placed an $85 charge on her credit card that she did not tell my sister about. Apparently one of the final statements that my sister initialed was accepting the rental car insurance she had already told the attendant she did NOT want. If the lady hadn't been rude and rushed her, she would have continued reading each statement and not signed the one thing she had verbally already declined. They also double dipped and added the fees already paid online with the initial reservation.

Fast forward and we call the customer service number (which is a mess and a hassle itself. We were on hold for 30-45 minutes and for hung up on 3 times before giving up and trying again the next day. We finally got through again after being on hold for 30 minutes). The customer service lady said she couldn't do anything and that we would need to talk with the manager when we returned the car. This was a joke.

The manager said he couldn't do anything... "Maybe if you guys had talked to us on the day you rented it" then maybe I could've done something. He refused to return even the fees we paid TWICE. AFTER 15 minutes of discussing with him, he turned around and walked away in the middle of the conversation. Needless to say, the fifty bucks you may save from renting from this company is NOT worth the hassle and frustration if you have to interact with the customer service or they rip you off in other ways. They say you get what you paid for and in this case, the old adage is true.

It was determined that the car was downright filthy with bits of food and trash. The car was not washed, as there was a healthy amount of dirt on the outside surface. While I inspected and marked where I though certain dents and dings where. The lack of the car being clean really reduced my ability to properly inspect for any damage.

When I got to my car in the parking garage, it had been recently washed and had water droplets all over it. My wife and I walked around the car looking for any preexisting damage. Not a problem until I returned it and the attendant noted a small windshield chip on the passenger side near the top of the hood. There is no way I would have noticed it with all the water droplets in the semi-lit garage. We were not hit with any flying rocks or debris while we were driving the car.

My advice to all who encounter this situation: insist that the attendant wipe down the entire car so you can fully inspect it or have the attendant write on the rental form that any minor imperfections could not be noted due to water droplets. Sounds trivial and it only cost me $72 but after reading all the negative reviews, you need to be very careful with this rental car company. No matter the cost difference, I will not be renting from them again.

We have rented a SUV for 11 days via a broker, EconomyCarRentals.com in May 2016 and the contract was made with EUROPCAR for 314.05 US$ all taxes, insurances and mileage included. The car being pick up and turned back in at Denver International Airport, Colorado. EUROPCAR is represented by ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR in the USA.

When we got there, and after a long one hour queue, we were told the car was not available (whereas it should have been) but we could have another SUV with an additional upgrade payment. We have accepted because we did not want to wait longer and we had a long drive in front of us. The agent printed out a new contract, which ended up at 675 US $. When we asked why the cost went from 314.05 to 675, the agent said the upgrade and the local taxes made the difference, plus an option for toll which she said we needed. No more explanations (we're French and could not understand all she said). She asked me to put my initials in front of several points and to sign the contract a copy of which was not given to me.

First issue: We left and on the way out of the airport zone, we found out that the sole toll highway in Colorado is the one that leaves the airport towards the south and no other. During our 11 days rent, we've never seen any other toll road, so the option was useless (and very expensive, because they applied it for the whole stay) plus taxes.

Second issue: Our first contract included all taxes. They've managed to issue a new contract to apply additional taxes. Third issue: we tried to call them a hundred times and never got through. The phone number on the Economycarrentals.com voucher is not the right number, it's another company. The 1-800 number for ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR does not let you reach anybody for hours. So we told ourselves we'll sort this out on our return to Denver.

Meanwhile, we found out we needed to keep the car 10 additional hours. So, we tried to call them, again for hours. We finally got through, explained our need and got interrupted before concluding. No way to get hold of them anymore. We called the airport service desk. The lady tried to find the local number for ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR at the airport, no way. We were hoping that our request had been taken into account.

Fourth issue: When we returned the car, 10 hours later than on the contract, we were applied an additional 50 US $ penalty for returning the car later. They said there was no note in the system! We then said we'd been cheated and abused of when we took the car. The guy said he could not do anything for us, that he was alone and busy, at 4 in the morning. We took the decision to leave and argue with our bank and that's where it stands for the moment. These people are not honest. They take advantage of foreigners, put pressure so that they can make more money. Very abusive!

There is certainly no Advantage in choosing this car rental service. I went to Atlanta to attend my niece's high school graduation. At the ATL Airport, Advantage Counter -- one of my sisters also traveling for the occasion and I picked up the rental I reserved. Almost immediately we ran into problems, picking up the car. First of all, after completing the required paperwork at the Advantage Airport counter, no one at the airport seemed to know where the Advantage kiosk was located and we had difficulty even finding the car and getting out of the airport. Secondly, Advantage staff are ill-informed and do not care at all about customer service. Questions about the GPS system we rented went unanswered.

Further, the car they gave us use a keyless remote, which turned out to be nightmare. A few days into our trip, we misplaced the remote (it ended up being in my sister's house in Atlanta, located not too far from the hotel we stayed and close to the airport). We were able to drive back to the hotel after a late night, from a family gathering, as keyless remotes allow one to drive without the remote in the car, only to discover that we did not have possession of it the next day.

At the time we did not know it was at my sister's house. We looked everywhere as did other relatives and could not locate it. Misplaced keyless car remotes are a common problem and the ability to drive without the key poses many problems, which is another cautionary tale for consumers unfamiliar with the perils of these remotes (look up the research on this for further information).

Upon discovering that we did not have the keyless remote, we called Advantage immediately, which turned out to be Monday morning, May 23rd. We could not get anyone to pick up the phone. We left messages (and later staff at the Advantage Atlanta kiosk at the airport said that they returned the calls at my home number, clearly identified as such and listed on the rental agreement, instead of the cell number we left on the Advantage voice mail system (Advantage does not seem to hire the best and brightest).

Finally, we were able to connect with the Advantage Roadside Service. Again someone who was not knowledgeable and or particularly helpful referred us to a locksmith (even though we weren't sure the keyless remote was in the car). After being placed on hold for several minutes the locksmith with whom we had been referred indicated that they did not provide service in Atlanta (we had given our location to the Roadside Service representative with whom we spoke).

A second locksmith with whom Advantage referred came two hours later and attempted to charge us more than what we were quoted on the phone, which took us another hour to dispute (now at least 3 to 4 hours of vacation time have been consumed with dealing with the car rental service and lack of customer service). Unfortunately after the locksmith opened the door, we did not find the keyless remote. Back to square one -- we made several attempts to call the Advantage Atlanta Airport office and no one picked up the phone, so a family member who lives in Atlanta drove us to the airport, where we encountered another set of incompetent staff, who kept repeating that the key (or technically the keyless remote) was our responsibility.

We received no help or suggestions for other viable options and they claimed not to have a back up keyless remote (which makes no sense for a car rental service not to have a back up key). We were advised to call a locksmith to have them make a duplicate keyless remote, as this was our problem and responsibility. Having had the nightmare with the previous locksmith, who tried to charge us more than what was quoted over the phone -- this was not an encouraging option. Richard, the manager at the kiosk said that we could have the car towed back to the airport at our expense, which we were forced to accept (now a whole day wasted going back and forth to resolve the car issue).

We eventually found the keyless remote, but again could not reach their office in time to avoid the additional charges (which were never explained -- although staff seem to be trained to blame the customer and refer them back to the rental agreement, no one we talked to could tell us how much I would be charged). Upon returning home to California and reviewing my bill on my A&E I saw that the additional $468 charge (more than the cost of my flight) was sent as a separate charge with no explanation. I called the 1-800 number and after being placed on hold for a good 20 to 30 minutes I am finally connected to a very brash representative named Ariel. Ariel takes my name and then tells me I will need to go back into the queue as all systems are down and she can't access my information.

After letting her know this was unacceptable we engage in some back and forth. She becomes argumentative and rude as she refers me to the rental agreement. I let her know that her attitude is also unacceptable and that I will be following up with corporate headquarters, which she does provide the contact information per my request -- I will give her credit for that (she had already told me that she is the only Ariel in the office, so she would have been very easy to identify in a complaint -- even without her last name).

While I am composing my complaint and request to waive charges to the Advantage.com customer service website, I receive an email from Ariel -- pretty much absolving herself and touting the company line that I am responsible for all charges per the rental agreement. Suddenly, Ariel is super responsive (I think because she is covering her back) and/or I have somehow struck a nerve with her. After I respond that I am issuing a formal complaint, I receive a second email from her, again seemingly writing for an audience (she copies Customer Service). She seemed to take things personally and the tone of her emails are argumentative and petty. I ended up asking her to let her superiors handle it -- and hopefully will not receive additional correspondence from her.

My request to have additional charges waived was based on the inaccessibility of staff, the major inconvenience that this caused and the lack of responsible customer service. The whole situation could have been handled differently. Other car rental services would have had a representative replace the key and/or worked with us to replace the car. Advantage on the other hand took full advantage (pun intended) of our predicament to charge additional fees without explanation and/or forward thinking. They obviously are not interested in return customers.

Their motto seems to be to Take Advantage of their customers and their practice seems to be to milk customers for as much as possible, particularly after the fact, when it is hard to refute and/or challenge them. Had I used them for business, I would have missed meetings or would have had to use alternative transportation. As it was a personal trip the cost to me and my family of lost time and frustration was immeasurable. I will never use this company again and am encouraged to share my story so that others can avoid them. I agree with all the other negative reviews. This company should be avoided at all costs. They appear to be scam artists, have no infrastructure and have no interest in building a company with a solid reputation with quality service.

I am totally unsatisfied with Advantage Rental Car - they did not honor my reservation that was made through Europcar. My reservation was for 5/26 through 5/30 at LaGuardia Airport. I am 61 years old so age was not an issue. They claimed I could not rent a car through Europcar because I didn't rent outside of the United States. I live in Texas, but was told by a Europcar representative that this was not an issue either. They also gave me a different price than what I was quoted by Europcar.

Because Advantage would not give me a car upon arrival, I had to hire an Uber car to take me to my hotel an hour outside of LaGuardia that cost me $105.90 and then I had to rent a car in Wayne NJ through Enterprise at a higher last-minute rate due to the holiday weekend. Since Advantage did not honor Europcar's reservation, I have serious concerns about EVER using Europcar in the future and definitely will NOT use Advantage Rentals in the future. The girl at the counter was RUDE and claimed she called her manager when she did not.

If I could give this place a negative amount of stars I would. DO NOT RENT FROM ADVANTAGE!! First of all the employees at this location trick customers into spending more. They upgraded me without my permission and made the statement "I'm going to hook you up with a SUV instead of the car you rented." Donald, the agent specifically acted like he was doing me a favor when at the end of it all he charged me more for the upgrade than you would pay by booking that vehicle online. I called to address my bill when I arrived at the hotel questioning why they charged me and said "Too bad you signed the contract so you have to pay it." Not a SINGLE rep or manager or head individual at Advantage would assist or rectify this issue!

I called the main Advantage number and they claimed to fill out a report to address what had happened and it was COMPLETELY blown off by everyone. THEN, to top it off after an awful experience returning the SUV, they turned around and made up some random return time a day later and charged me even more money for an additional day plus upgrade fee, even though I was already literally back across the country at home the day before. When Donald, the rep behind the counter was questioned when I returned the car he acted like he didn't do anything wrong and looked at me and said that's what she agreed to and had nothing else to say. I was in disbelief at this point. I didn't even ask for the damn upgrade nor would I have taken it if I knew there was an additional charge.

I also witnessed the sales reps at the counter trick people into buying extras that weren't necessary. For example, watched a Chinese couple that didn't speak a lot of English, and the con artist behind the counter ran them up for every extra insurance, gas, GPS, toll pass, etc that you can imagine. Before that poor couple left the counter they could have purchased a brand new car and skipped the rental all together. The BS reasons the jerk behind the counter gave them as to why they HAD to have it was unreal. The other red flag, was that I had to stand in line for 15-20 min waiting for angry customers in front of me that were clearly pissed at the reps behind the counter! I travel over 3 weeks a month all over the country and rent cars 3-4 times a month. I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE RENTING A CAR. This company is not trustworthy and will cheat you to make a buck and commission off the dollar amount you spend.

This has been the most frustrating company to work with. As many have stated they try to get you to buy and upgrade through the entire process. The woman, Janet, was nothing but dismissive and rude. I did not pay 9.99 a day for the sunpass in Orlando FL. I went through a total of 36 tolls over a 13 day period and all were paid via cash except for 2 that did not have an attendant or the ability to pay with change. On returning the vehicle I informed the Advantage rep that I needed to pay those two tolls and he said I needed to call Sunpass directly.

I did as instructed and Sunpass said they could not take a payment. It had to come from Advantage. Still frustrated. Went back to Advantage and they said they would have to charge me $9.99 for 13 days = $129.87 anyway. What kind of sense does any of that make? I will absolutely never use them and will at every opportunity share my very negative experience. I still have not received from $200 deposit back and know I am going to have to fight on both of these injustice, unethical issues. Bad, Bad, Bad experience. Use anyone else!

When I turned the car back in, the lady inspecting the car said I see you purchased the OPTIONAL liability insurance. I said I didn't know it was optional and even asked the guy if I had to have it since I had proof of my own. She told me to go to the desk. "The manager said you will have to call corporate." I have called for 2 weeks. No one has called me back and no one seems to care that we were lied to. I will never rent from this company again. My wife rented a car from the Denver Airport location of Advantage Rent-a-Car. The first car they put her in was filthy and had a broken driver's seat that couldn't be adjusted to allow her to reach the pedals. The second car they put her in was filthy and made it 15 miles from the airport when it broke down. She called Advantage. She was told because she didn't buy roadside assistance she had to drive it back to airport or pay for a tow truck. She had a mechanic look at it and he said she would probably make it back to the airport. The car would not go faster than 20 mph with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. She had to turn the hazard flashers on travel I-225 back to the airport at 20 mph.

The 3rd car they put her in was filthy and ran for 1.5 days before refusing to start after she filled it with gas in Colorado Springs. She had to ask strangers for help and after pushing it some and jumping it several times the car finally started. She drove the car to the Colorado Springs Airport and rented a car from Enterprise while I called the manager of the Advantage Denver location and told him he was endangering my wife's safety. He said he would tow a different car to COS and tow the broken one back to Denver. I told him we were done dealing with Advantage and he could just tow the broken down car back to Denver. He said for my wife to put the keys in the glove box and let him know where she left it which I did. I informed The Denver manager that I would not pay for any charges since Advantage ruined my wife's vacation and they had not met their contract obligation of providing a car in good working order.

A few days later we received an invoice for 4 days of car rental (one day was credited for any inconvenience). I called Advantage customer service and was told the decision to issue a refund was entirely up to the Denver manager. She said she would email a complaint to the Denver location asking for a full refund and that we would hear back within 72 hours. After not hearing from Advantage for 5 days I once again called customer service and this time talked to a very condescending representative. She told me that there would be no further refund and the decision was final. I asked how a company could bill for days when the car was not in my wife's possession having been towed back to Denver. She said there is a signed contract and even if she was in the hospital and unable to drive we would have been charged for all days of the contract.

I asked to speak with her supervisor and she refused my request. She stated that she was "giving me a courtesy by even talking to me". Advantage, at least at the Denver location, appears to have a severe problem with maintaining their rental cars. They're endangering public safety by putting drivers in unsafe vehicles. The car that would not go faster than 20 mph was still sitting on the lot when my wife was getting in the 3rd car when a man and his wife started to get in the car my wife had trouble with. Advantage had put this couple in a car that was just turned in because it didn't run! My wife told them to go back in and get a different car. In my opinion the business practices at the Denver location show a wanton disregard for the safety of their customers.

I wrote two online complaints to this company's website. The first one while I had the car, and the second three days later. Never even received a response. I did let the LAX return center know about my problems, but told them I had already contacted the company, they said I would be hearing back shortly... Sent May 19, 2016 - I always believe in giving a company an opportunity to address any bad service or product before entering a negative review. However, I am astounded that I sent the following complaint via comments to you on the morning of May 16th and have still not heard any response from you...

Sent May 16, 2016 - I am a first-time Advantage customer. I travel routinely and finally decided to give your company a try. I picked up a car at the SNA airport last Friday (which I currently have until tomorrow). The car pickup is underground in the SNA airport parking garage, so it is fairly dark in there. When I got in the car, I noticed it had a strange smell, wasn't sure what it was so I opened the windows and drove away to my destination 50 miles away. As I was driving down the freeway, I started noticing how filthy the console was, sticky residue, green stuff in the corners, floor not vacuumed. All of which I didn't see in the dark garage. I opened the glove compartment to find someone's prescription bottle (with pills), a large plastic bag. When I picked up someone at my destination they informed me the strong stench in my car was marijuana and the small green stuff was pot.

To top this experience off, when evening rolled around the inside windshield was so dirty the visibility was horrible and dangerous with oncoming lights. I had to pull into a gas station to clean the inside of the windshield and the pot remnants/residue. I have dealt with almost every major car rental company and have never experienced anything like this. I'm embarrassed to return this car tomorrow at LAX as I know the return attendant is going to think I made this car smell like this. I will never do business with your company again.

Also, I was told that I would need to purchase a toll pass or would be fined if I went through a toll without it (I was very specific that I would be in Johnson city, which I discovered there were no tolls going to and from), I was charged 9.99 a day for 7 days or 69.92. Furthermore, I was charged an additional 49.95 for a second driver. I was at their mercy and had no luck getting another car rental with other companies, as they told me prior to booking. This company is a problem waiting to happen, they are ready willing and able to take customer service to the lowest level as possible, whenever possible. I was surprised by the extra $200 charge add to the rental at the airport and was told that they would just hold that money and return it when, I brought the car back. The attendant was quick to begin arguing at the counter, asking the next rental car attendant if they had the same policy, my only question was why this wasn't explain prior to getting to arriving to the airport.

Then the charge was processed with the deposit, when I was told that I would only be charged for the rental, that was a lie. The attitude of all these employees add insult to an inconvenience. Their response is that it in the rental agreement which you don't get an advance copy of, but get at the airport when you need a car, who has $200 to give to a company just because you follow by business with them, to be returned when it's convenient to them. It seem the debit card and the credit cards are processed differently. This is a class issue. Debit cards are charged holding your cash in limbo with the excuse "it's in the rental agreement." Money is money. Last time I checked, I am actively reporting this type of behavior until I don't see this type of discrimination anymore.

I went to the first desk and told him about it and he told me go and change the channel in a very rude manner and I did. After half an hour of waiting frustrated because there was 8 registers but only one working and a lot of people waiting I mentioned to him about the bad service and they needed more people for better service. To my surprise he treated me like I don't understand their situation and flight delays and so on. And he started getting out of control and he told me that he refuses to give me a car and I need to leave the building of he would call cop.

I was wondering what he was going to tell the cop if he really called them. Please come and take this customer because he is not happy with our service. Plus he used f language as he was going to another desk. Once we told him that it was okay to call cop then he comes back to his desk and ask me if I really want to have a car. It was like a joke. Can't you see that I am waiting for half an hour? I asked for his name and he told me "Michael". I asked for his last name and his business card and he told me he was not going to give me his last name.

People were shocked and I heard one customer in line asked if he was drunk which he was not. He was a frustrated employee that was left alone which is understandable but he was not trained properly and was extremely rude. When I got my car I talk to one staff and asked about him and he told me that this guy is rich and has money so doesn't care to get fired and he treated other people the same. I am going to contact their management office to explain what happened and will not use Advantage Rent-A-Car again.

He said that the city of Atlanta did not accept any transfer of insurance, that I could not use USAA. He said that I could sign a waiver. He indicated to me both of the roads are toll roads. If I did not agree to the $6.99 per day charge, I would be charged $25 every time I used either of these roads. I later found out that these roads are only toll roads once you have used them much farther north than I traveled during my 2-week stay. The lack of professionalism and customer service was appalling. I spent almost $1,000 for that rental car and yet because of an Advantage Rent-A-Car representative taking advantage of me, I failed to receive any refund. Like many others here, I chose Advantage, Tampa because I was trying to save a buck and they were the cheapest option. Unlike many others here, my bad review has nothing to do with the transportation to/from the location or from anything like that, the shoddy customer service, or general ineptitude. These things were all very much in play, but for the cheapest rental car company, you expect to get the cheapest quality of service and a lack of the amenities of the nicer companies. But no, this review goes straight to the fact that Advantage, Tampa lied to me and tried to pull the ol' classic ding-and-dent scam on me. That's right. This company will try to scam you.

In my situation, one of the tires on my car was defective. I got in late and didn't notice it until the next morning, but the tire had an enormous tumor coming out of the side-wall of the tire. Ask any of your local mechanics (or simply do a Google search) and you will find that this is incredibly unsafe to drive on, and an impending blowout is sure to follow. So I call, ask for any way that Advantage can tow my car and replace it, as I rented it for the week, and I needed a car but could not drive on this tire. They refused, and said that I had to drive it back to the Tampa or to the Orlando location to return and exchange the car. I told them that there was no way this would be possible as the tire was unsafe for me to drive on. They essentially told me, "Well go fly a kite because we don't know what else to say."

Due to a full schedule for the week (visiting family and such), I decided to bum rides all week and then change the tire, and drive VERY carefully back to Tampa on the spare once the time came to return the car and fly home, knowing that I would dispute paying full price once I returned the car. I did not drive the car a single time until returning to Tampa.

Flash forward to getting back to Advantage, Tampa. I was greeted by the nice, old man who sits on the bench outside and receives the returns. I told him about the tire, which he inspected, and told him that since I was unable to use the car all week I would need to receive some sort of refund. To my pleasant surprise, he immediately assures me that they would not charge me a penny for the car since it was obviously defective and that all I needed to do was fill out a form saying what happened. I did so and returned home.

Days, weeks, months go by, and the charge is still on my credit card bill. I try to contact Advantage, Tampa, but (as others have noticed) I can not get them on the phone. And I mean, literally hours of calling and waiting on that infamous rotating message that they have, and never once getting a live body. So I dispute the claim with my credit card company.

A few more days go by and I receive a call from my insurance agent who informs me that Advantage, Tampa is making a claim against me for damaging the car! And no, not even the tire. Physical damage to the fender and bumper! They claimed that I wrecked the car that I was unable to drive! Then, my credit card company tells me that the reason Advantage never refunded my charge (as they assured me they would) is because I "agreed to return and exchange the car but instead kept it for the entire week." This kind of conduct goes beyond unprofessional, my friends, and is now full-fledged insurance fraud. Tl;dr -- Was given a defective car that I could not drive. Was told price would be fully refunded. They never refunded and went AWOL, then filed a fraudulent insurance claim against me.

I extended my rental agreement for another week. I called the customer service department on the due date to extend it. I was told that my extension request was granted and that I was going to be charged an additional $163.93. The charge for the rental appeared on my credit card billing statement three days later. Four days after I requested an extension of the contract I received threatening telephone calls from the location where I picked it up that the car has been reported stolen to authorities and that I was going to be charged with theft. I had the right to use the vehicle if I paid for it and was given the right to use it. I told the man who called that he could do whatever he wants. However, with my having proof of payment and a confirmation number for the extension of the rental, I can easily win this case in court and make you be responsible for all legal costs.

In addition, I would sue Advantage Rent A Car and, hopefully, put the company out of business. I clearly understand why this particular rental car agency has a one star rating and it has moved out of my local airport recently along with other airports. I would not recommend this particular rental car company to anyone, even if it has the best prices. Advantage Rent A Car does not care about customer service, has poor communications, and has agents who does not deserve to have their jobs. Maybe someone will sue the living daylight out of this particular rental car agency one day and send it to jail where it belongs!!

My reservation was for $289.23 for 3 days. When I landed in San Diego before 10:00 local time I went to Advantage counter and there was not anyone there. The girl at Payless Car Rental told me that they were out of cars and to go upstairs to talk to someone. When I did there was a sign on the window saying that they were out of cars and went home for the night and would be back in the morning. After I got home from my trip I submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. I was then asked to submit the receipt from Payless for the $535.94. I sent them the receipt and received an email saying they were investigating. After a few days, I received an email from Jenn **, an executive from the company saying that they verified that I didn't try to pick up the car until after 11:59 when they had already closed. I emailed back asking where they got this inaccurate information, but got no response. I told her that the receipt I sent them from Payless had a time stamp on it of 22:33, which is 10:33, well before they should have closed and that they closed early because they gave away all cars, even though they still had people arriving that had reservations. I received an email from the BBB saying they were closing my ticket because the company responded. Yes, they responded with a flat out lie. They should not be able to get away with this.

Once we did they told us to have to towed back to LAX when it was over an hour away. So then finally we just said "Tow it to John Wayne airport." These people do not call you back, the numbers you push to talk to a different area, you get voicemail. I called today, was on hold, got 4 different customer service people when I was suppose to be transferred to risk/claims got 2 different phone numbers (2 same 1 different the guy gave me the correct one). Of course you call no answer. I left voicemail on March 28th 2016, and yesterday April 6th and have yet to receive a phone call back from anyone. I will NEVER rent from this place again... WORST customer service EVER. Think when you are in a accident you could speak with someone right away... NOPE.

I called to reserve an SUV for our ski trip to Colorado and was told what types of SUV's they had, price, and told that EZ car rental is cheaper and the same company and was then given a confirmation number. When I arrived in Denver, took the shuttle bus and then waited almost an hour to see the agent, I was told that I only reserved a standard car and that the SUV is an upgrade and that my only choice was to pay 789 dollars instead of the 412 I was told on the phone. The manager told me that there is nothing he could do and gave me the number for customer service and name of the supervisor to talk to. I spent hours requesting to speak to Naomi the supervisor only to be hung up on over and over and even told by an agent named Kenya that she won't let me speak to the supervisor. This is one of the worst bait and switch scams ever. Beware of Advantage and EZ Car Rental as it's not worth dealing with this shady of a company!!!

This is hands down the WORST rental car business out there. They should be shut down. It is impossible to get anyone on the phone and if you ever do get to a representative they do not have any answers or they will give you other phone numbers that are incorrect! I have never been this frustrated in my 30+ years of business/pleasure travel. I continue to be charged for tolls on a trip that I purchased an unlimited EZ toll pass that supposedly covered all tolls for a flat rate of $6.99 per day. I have called at least 5 times and had dead ends each time - I finally called Plate Pass and may have made headway but they said I need to call Advantage. SUPER frustrating. Beware and do not trust this business.
