I recently rented a car from Advantage on June 19. The fact that the office is off location from the complex of rental centers of Hobby airport was strange. Contract should be done inside airport and you have to run all the way three roads off the airport to get the car. The electronic pad was difficult to read to understand the article. Later I found that I did not return the car in full tank and charged 8.99$ per gallon! Another thing they use for scam is insurance. I already paid with Expedite for daily coverage but they persuaded me to pay another 30 for full coverage for two days. I can not understand that this is still going business in U.S. considering all gun control, subprime mortgage and Enron. U.S is too risky place to do business and rent a car. Please go by the big major companies such as Alamo.

Do NOT rent a car from this place. If I could give them zero stars, I would. My sister and I flew in to visit our aunt, who had reserved this car online from Advantage. She pre-paid online. When my sister went to pick the car up, the attendant asked if she wanted to add additional rental car insurance. My sister replied "No, I don't want to pay for anything extra..." Fast forward and she was initialing besides all of the questions that rental companies normally have you do, such as all of the things you decline. She was reading each item before signing but the attendant was annoyed and rushed her, so my sister quickly signed the last 2 or 3 statements.
The attendant then said, "We have to place a $200 hold on your credit card." This was AFTER they asked for my sister's social security number to run a credit check on her (I have NEVER had a rental car company ask for my SS number before). Unbeknownst to her, the attendant ALSO placed an $85 charge on her credit card that she did not tell my sister about. Apparently one of the final statements that my sister initialed was accepting the rental car insurance she had already told the attendant she did NOT want. If the lady hadn't been rude and rushed her, she would have continued reading each statement and not signed the one thing she had verbally already declined. They also double dipped and added the fees already paid online with the initial reservation.
Fast forward and we call the customer service number (which is a mess and a hassle itself. We were on hold for 30-45 minutes and for hung up on 3 times before giving up and trying again the next day. We finally got through again after being on hold for 30 minutes). The customer service lady said she couldn't do anything and that we would need to talk with the manager when we returned the car. This was a joke.
The manager said he couldn't do anything... "Maybe if you guys had talked to us on the day you rented it" then maybe I could've done something. He refused to return even the fees we paid TWICE. AFTER 15 minutes of discussing with him, he turned around and walked away in the middle of the conversation. Needless to say, the fifty bucks you may save from renting from this company is NOT worth the hassle and frustration if you have to interact with the customer service or they rip you off in other ways. They say you get what you paid for and in this case, the old adage is true.

Horrific experience start to finish! Arrived on time to pick up our car. Agent tried relentlessly to get us to upgrade to another car. We kept refusing until he finally admitted to us the specific car we had reserved was "not available" for another hour or so. We sat and waited until the car was finally returned and they literally hosed the front of it off and handed us the keys. Dirty tissues inside, food and drink spilled on the seats and floor, dirty exterior. We went in to complain and they said they noted the condition of the car, and they gave us a customer service number to call. After sharing our experience with the "customer service" agent they claimed they could not see any notes on our experience but apologized and offered us a whopping 20% off our next rental. Going back to Hertz!!

Booked a non-refundable intermediate size car in Phoenix. We told clerk we were headed to Grand Canyon and he said our car would not make it over the mountains since their intermediate size car is a Volkswagen beetle. Heard other clerks asking people where they were going and told them the same thing. That we needed to upgrade to a larger vehicle for double the price. DO NOT RENT FROM ADVANTAGE. IT IS A SCAM!!! A beetle is NOT an intermediate size car. Bad start to our vacation.

If you want to be robbed by a rental car company, please by all means rent your car from Advantage. I reserved a standard car for 1:00 PM. It was unavailable and so, I was offered a mini-van at the same price. I did not want nor reserve a mini-van. The standard car was to be available at 5:00 PM. REALLY! The agent wanted me to wait or take the mini-van. So, I was FORCED to upgrade at my cost. To top it off, I walked the Advantage lot and there were several cars available, but the agent said they were already reserved, yet MY car was getting services. I will NEVER rent from Advantage and will become an advocate for their poor customer service.
Things that you all should know: Initially, I signed off, as the car was clean. This was because I only looked at the driver’s cockpit. Upon further inspection later. It was determined that the car was downright filthy with bits of food and trash. The car was not washed, as there was a healthy amount of dirt on the outside surface. While I inspected and marked where I though certain dents and dings where. The lack of the car being clean really reduced my ability to properly inspect for any damage.

Be ready for the hard sell when you pick up your rental car. The counter lady spent considerable time trying to talk me into every extra and upgrade. No wonder the lines are so long. When I got to my car in the parking garage, it had been recently washed and had water droplets all over it. My wife and I walked around the car looking for any preexisting damage. Not a problem until I returned it and the attendant noted a small windshield chip on the passenger side near the top of the hood. There is no way I would have noticed it with all the water droplets in the semi-lit garage. We were not hit with any flying rocks or debris while we were driving the car.
My advice to all who encounter this situation: insist that the attendant wipe down the entire car so you can fully inspect it or have the attendant write on the rental form that any minor imperfections could not be noted due to water droplets. Sounds trivial and it only cost me $72 but after reading all the negative reviews, you need to be very careful with this rental car company. No matter the cost difference, I will not be renting from them again.

My wife and I visited my daughter in Florida. We flew into Tampa and had reserved a car at Advantage Rent-A-Car in Tampa on December 21st. We arrived late due to the fact that our plane was delayed leaving Minnesota. We had reserved a mid-sized rental car at the Tampa Advantage Rent-A-Car. When we went, completed the paperwork, and went to pick the car up, it was filthy. We could hardly see out of windows and it had a low tire. I went to the service department and no one could speak English. We finally figured out that they could not repair or change the tire. So I was given another car about 1 1/2 hour later. This one was very dirty also, but I had had enough since it was 1:00 a.m. and just wanted to get out of there.
The shocks, ride, and overall condition of the vehicle I received was very poor. I probably would have received a better car at Rent a Wreck. We rented it for one week and were charged over $500.00. I told the manager how dissatisfied I was with the rental, but he did not seem to care. Now, almost 6 months later, I receive a $26.00 charge on my credit card for a supposedly toll charge. SIX MONTHS to process a toll charge? Give me a break. Poorly run company that should be avoided. Don't rent from Advantage in Tampa. There is a definite reason they are cheaper!!!

Dreadful - Absolutely dreadful. Add charges for things you don't want like E-Z Pass. Upgrades charged more than quoted price. Lethargic staff - indeed no staff. I stood in a queue for over an hour with just 3 customers in front. Two gave up and moved to the Dollar desk. Phone service non existent. This company is one big - VERY big con AND THE US STATE DEPARTMENT SHOULD INVESTIGATE THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS. IT'S VERY POOR PUBLIC RELATIONS for us visitors.

Advantage Rent-A-Car recently charged me for insurance after clearly stating that I didn't want it. I foolishly signed the contract without reviewing it, so Advantage refuses to refund me - a $400 mistake. The person in front of me at the counter had the same problem. Please be cautious when renting from Advantage or avoid them completely. Their budget prices seem to be made up by charging unsuspecting customers insurance that they don't need or want. This is the poorest customer service from a major company I have ever had. I definitely feel cheated by Advantage.

The Advantage Rental Car desk agent in Ft. Lauderdale told us three times that we would not be charged any additional amounts for tolls if we paid the daily toll charge. We paid that charge and Advantage then added three additional charges to our credit card two and three months after we had returned the car. The gate agent obviously lied to us outright over and over. I asked specifically whether the tolls would be completely covered by the daily charge and whether there would be any other charges for tolls. He told us we would not have to pay any more at all for tolls and that the daily charge would cover all tolls.
We complained to Advantage about the later charges but they did not bother to respond. We disputed it with the credit card company but they refused to remove the charges. Obviously, I will never rent from Advantage again. Seeing how often this happens to renters makes it clear that this is an unethical business practice that is common to Advantage.

We have rented a SUV for 11 days via a broker, EconomyCarRentals.com in May 2016 and the contract was made with EUROPCAR for 314.05 US$ all taxes, insurances and mileage included. The car being pick up and turned back in at Denver International Airport, Colorado. EUROPCAR is represented by ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR in the USA.
When we got there, and after a long one hour queue, we were told the car was not available (whereas it should have been) but we could have another SUV with an additional upgrade payment. We have accepted because we did not want to wait longer and we had a long drive in front of us. The agent printed out a new contract, which ended up at 675 US $. When we asked why the cost went from 314.05 to 675, the agent said the upgrade and the local taxes made the difference, plus an option for toll which she said we needed. No more explanations (we're French and could not understand all she said). She asked me to put my initials in front of several points and to sign the contract a copy of which was not given to me.
First issue: We left and on the way out of the airport zone, we found out that the sole toll highway in Colorado is the one that leaves the airport towards the south and no other. During our 11 days rent, we've never seen any other toll road, so the option was useless (and very expensive, because they applied it for the whole stay) plus taxes.
Second issue: Our first contract included all taxes. They've managed to issue a new contract to apply additional taxes. Third issue: we tried to call them a hundred times and never got through. The phone number on the Economycarrentals.com voucher is not the right number, it's another company. The 1-800 number for ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR does not let you reach anybody for hours. So we told ourselves we'll sort this out on our return to Denver.
Meanwhile, we found out we needed to keep the car 10 additional hours. So, we tried to call them, again for hours. We finally got through, explained our need and got interrupted before concluding. No way to get hold of them anymore. We called the airport service desk. The lady tried to find the local number for ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR at the airport, no way. We were hoping that our request had been taken into account.
Fourth issue: When we returned the car, 10 hours later than on the contract, we were applied an additional 50 US $ penalty for returning the car later. They said there was no note in the system! We then said we'd been cheated and abused of when we took the car. The guy said he could not do anything for us, that he was alone and busy, at 4 in the morning. We took the decision to leave and argue with our bank and that's where it stands for the moment. These people are not honest. They take advantage of foreigners, put pressure so that they can make more money. Very abusive!

There is certainly no Advantage in choosing this car rental service. I went to Atlanta to attend my niece's high school graduation. At the ATL Airport, Advantage Counter -- one of my sisters also traveling for the occasion and I picked up the rental I reserved. Almost immediately we ran into problems, picking up the car. First of all, after completing the required paperwork at the Advantage Airport counter, no one at the airport seemed to know where the Advantage kiosk was located and we had difficulty even finding the car and getting out of the airport. Secondly, Advantage staff are ill-informed and do not care at all about customer service. Questions about the GPS system we rented went unanswered.
Further, the car they gave us use a keyless remote, which turned out to be nightmare. A few days into our trip, we misplaced the remote (it ended up being in my sister's house in Atlanta, located not too far from the hotel we stayed and close to the airport). We were able to drive back to the hotel after a late night, from a family gathering, as keyless remotes allow one to drive without the remote in the car, only to discover that we did not have possession of it the next day.
At the time we did not know it was at my sister's house. We looked everywhere as did other relatives and could not locate it. Misplaced keyless car remotes are a common problem and the ability to drive without the key poses many problems, which is another cautionary tale for consumers unfamiliar with the perils of these remotes (look up the research on this for further information).
Upon discovering that we did not have the keyless remote, we called Advantage immediately, which turned out to be Monday morning, May 23rd. We could not get anyone to pick up the phone. We left messages (and later staff at the Advantage Atlanta kiosk at the airport said that they returned the calls at my home number, clearly identified as such and listed on the rental agreement, instead of the cell number we left on the Advantage voice mail system (Advantage does not seem to hire the best and brightest).
Finally, we were able to connect with the Advantage Roadside Service. Again someone who was not knowledgeable and or particularly helpful referred us to a locksmith (even though we weren't sure the keyless remote was in the car). After being placed on hold for several minutes the locksmith with whom we had been referred indicated that they did not provide service in Atlanta (we had given our location to the Roadside Service representative with whom we spoke).
A second locksmith with whom Advantage referred came two hours later and attempted to charge us more than what we were quoted on the phone, which took us another hour to dispute (now at least 3 to 4 hours of vacation time have been consumed with dealing with the car rental service and lack of customer service). Unfortunately after the locksmith opened the door, we did not find the keyless remote. Back to square one -- we made several attempts to call the Advantage Atlanta Airport office and no one picked up the phone, so a family member who lives in Atlanta drove us to the airport, where we encountered another set of incompetent staff, who kept repeating that the key (or technically the keyless remote) was our responsibility.
We received no help or suggestions for other viable options and they claimed not to have a back up keyless remote (which makes no sense for a car rental service not to have a back up key). We were advised to call a locksmith to have them make a duplicate keyless remote, as this was our problem and responsibility. Having had the nightmare with the previous locksmith, who tried to charge us more than what was quoted over the phone -- this was not an encouraging option. Richard, the manager at the kiosk said that we could have the car towed back to the airport at our expense, which we were forced to accept (now a whole day wasted going back and forth to resolve the car issue).
We eventually found the keyless remote, but again could not reach their office in time to avoid the additional charges (which were never explained -- although staff seem to be trained to blame the customer and refer them back to the rental agreement, no one we talked to could tell us how much I would be charged). Upon returning home to California and reviewing my bill on my A&E I saw that the additional $468 charge (more than the cost of my flight) was sent as a separate charge with no explanation. I called the 1-800 number and after being placed on hold for a good 20 to 30 minutes I am finally connected to a very brash representative named Ariel. Ariel takes my name and then tells me I will need to go back into the queue as all systems are down and she can't access my information.
After letting her know this was unacceptable we engage in some back and forth. She becomes argumentative and rude as she refers me to the rental agreement. I let her know that her attitude is also unacceptable and that I will be following up with corporate headquarters, which she does provide the contact information per my request -- I will give her credit for that (she had already told me that she is the only Ariel in the office, so she would have been very easy to identify in a complaint -- even without her last name).
While I am composing my complaint and request to waive charges to the Advantage.com customer service website, I receive an email from Ariel -- pretty much absolving herself and touting the company line that I am responsible for all charges per the rental agreement. Suddenly, Ariel is super responsive (I think because she is covering her back) and/or I have somehow struck a nerve with her. After I respond that I am issuing a formal complaint, I receive a second email from her, again seemingly writing for an audience (she copies Customer Service). She seemed to take things personally and the tone of her emails are argumentative and petty. I ended up asking her to let her superiors handle it -- and hopefully will not receive additional correspondence from her.
My request to have additional charges waived was based on the inaccessibility of staff, the major inconvenience that this caused and the lack of responsible customer service. The whole situation could have been handled differently. Other car rental services would have had a representative replace the key and/or worked with us to replace the car. Advantage on the other hand took full advantage (pun intended) of our predicament to charge additional fees without explanation and/or forward thinking. They obviously are not interested in return customers.
Their motto seems to be to Take Advantage of their customers and their practice seems to be to milk customers for as much as possible, particularly after the fact, when it is hard to refute and/or challenge them. Had I used them for business, I would have missed meetings or would have had to use alternative transportation. As it was a personal trip the cost to me and my family of lost time and frustration was immeasurable. I will never use this company again and am encouraged to share my story so that others can avoid them. I agree with all the other negative reviews. This company should be avoided at all costs. They appear to be scam artists, have no infrastructure and have no interest in building a company with a solid reputation with quality service.

Two months after my rental through the San Diego airport branch, my credit card was charged additional fees with no explanation. When I called their 800 number, and followed the prompts for charge disputes, it was automatically routed to the Orlando office, who then told me I should call the original 800 number! A circle. So, I contacted American Express and told them the problem. They found that the charge had been for a toll fee and an administrative charge for using a toll road. If anyone looked at the toll charge, however, they would have seen that it occurred 11 hours before I rented the car; same day, but the previous renter. Three months later, I am still trying to get the charges removed from my card. I'll never rent from Advantage again.

I am totally unsatisfied with Advantage Rental Car - they did not honor my reservation that was made through Europcar. My reservation was for 5/26 through 5/30 at LaGuardia Airport. I am 61 years old so age was not an issue. They claimed I could not rent a car through Europcar because I didn't rent outside of the United States. I live in Texas, but was told by a Europcar representative that this was not an issue either. They also gave me a different price than what I was quoted by Europcar.
Because Advantage would not give me a car upon arrival, I had to hire an Uber car to take me to my hotel an hour outside of LaGuardia that cost me $105.90 and then I had to rent a car in Wayne NJ through Enterprise at a higher last-minute rate due to the holiday weekend. Since Advantage did not honor Europcar's reservation, I have serious concerns about EVER using Europcar in the future and definitely will NOT use Advantage Rentals in the future. The girl at the counter was RUDE and claimed she called her manager when she did not.

If I could give this place a negative amount of stars I would. DO NOT RENT FROM ADVANTAGE!! First of all the employees at this location trick customers into spending more. They upgraded me without my permission and made the statement "I'm going to hook you up with a SUV instead of the car you rented." Donald, the agent specifically acted like he was doing me a favor when at the end of it all he charged me more for the upgrade than you would pay by booking that vehicle online. I called to address my bill when I arrived at the hotel questioning why they charged me and said "Too bad you signed the contract so you have to pay it." Not a SINGLE rep or manager or head individual at Advantage would assist or rectify this issue!
I called the main Advantage number and they claimed to fill out a report to address what had happened and it was COMPLETELY blown off by everyone. THEN, to top it off after an awful experience returning the SUV, they turned around and made up some random return time a day later and charged me even more money for an additional day plus upgrade fee, even though I was already literally back across the country at home the day before. When Donald, the rep behind the counter was questioned when I returned the car he acted like he didn't do anything wrong and looked at me and said that's what she agreed to and had nothing else to say. I was in disbelief at this point. I didn't even ask for the damn upgrade nor would I have taken it if I knew there was an additional charge.
I also witnessed the sales reps at the counter trick people into buying extras that weren't necessary. For example, watched a Chinese couple that didn't speak a lot of English, and the con artist behind the counter ran them up for every extra insurance, gas, GPS, toll pass, etc that you can imagine. Before that poor couple left the counter they could have purchased a brand new car and skipped the rental all together. The BS reasons the jerk behind the counter gave them as to why they HAD to have it was unreal. The other red flag, was that I had to stand in line for 15-20 min waiting for angry customers in front of me that were clearly pissed at the reps behind the counter! I travel over 3 weeks a month all over the country and rent cars 3-4 times a month. I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE RENTING A CAR. This company is not trustworthy and will cheat you to make a buck and commission off the dollar amount you spend.

This has been the most frustrating company to work with. As many have stated they try to get you to buy and upgrade through the entire process. The woman, Janet, was nothing but dismissive and rude. I did not pay 9.99 a day for the sunpass in Orlando FL. I went through a total of 36 tolls over a 13 day period and all were paid via cash except for 2 that did not have an attendant or the ability to pay with change. On returning the vehicle I informed the Advantage rep that I needed to pay those two tolls and he said I needed to call Sunpass directly.
I did as instructed and Sunpass said they could not take a payment. It had to come from Advantage. Still frustrated. Went back to Advantage and they said they would have to charge me $9.99 for 13 days = $129.87 anyway. What kind of sense does any of that make? I will absolutely never use them and will at every opportunity share my very negative experience. When I turned the car back in, the lady inspecting the car said I see you purchased the OPTIONAL liability insurance. I said I didn't know it was optional and even asked the guy if I had to have it since I had proof of my own. She told me to go to the desk. "The manager said you will have to call corporate." My wife rented a car from the Denver Airport location of Advantage Rent-a-Car. The first car they put her in was filthy and had a broken driver's seat that couldn't be adjusted to allow her to reach the pedals. The second car they put her in was filthy and made it 15 miles from the airport when it broke down. She called Advantage. She was told because she didn't buy roadside assistance she had to drive it back to airport or pay for a tow truck. She had a mechanic look at it and he said she would probably make it back to the airport. The car would not go faster than 20 mph with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. She had to turn the hazard flashers on travel I-225 back to the airport at 20 mph.
The 3rd car they put her in was filthy and ran for 1.5 days before refusing to start after she filled it with gas in Colorado Springs. She had to ask strangers for help and after pushing it some and jumping it several times the car finally started. She drove the car to the Colorado Springs Airport and rented a car from Enterprise while I called the manager of the Advantage Denver location and told him he was endangering my wife's safety. He said he would tow a different car to COS and tow the broken one back to Denver. I told him we were done dealing with Advantage and he could just tow the broken down car back to Denver. He said for my wife to put the keys in the glove box and let him know where she left it which I did. I informed The Denver manager that I would not pay for any charges since Advantage ruined my wife's vacation and they had not met their contract obligation of providing a car in good working order.
A few days later we received an invoice for 4 days of car rental (one day was credited for any inconvenience). I called Advantage customer service and was told the decision to issue a refund was entirely up to the Denver manager. She said she would email a complaint to the Denver location asking for a full refund and that we would hear back within 72 hours. After not hearing from Advantage for 5 days I once again called customer service and this time talked to a very condescending representative. She told me that there would be no further refund and the decision was final. I asked how a company could bill for days when the car was not in my wife's possession having been towed back to Denver. She said there is a signed contract and even if she was in the hospital and unable to drive we would have been charged for all days of the contract.
I asked to speak with her supervisor and she refused my request. She stated that she was "giving me a courtesy by even talking to me". Advantage, at least at the Denver location, appears to have a severe problem with maintaining their rental cars. They're endangering public safety by putting drivers in unsafe vehicles. The car that would not go faster than 20 mph was still sitting on the lot when my wife was getting in the 3rd car when a man and his wife started to get in the car my wife had trouble with. Advantage had put this couple in a car that was just turned in because it didn't run! My wife told them to go back in and get a different car. In my opinion the business practices at the Denver location show a wanton disregard for the safety of their customers.

Sent May 19, 2016 - I always believe in giving a company an opportunity to address any bad service or product before entering a negative review. However, I am astounded that I sent the following complaint via comments to you on the morning of May 16th and have still not heard any response from you...
Sent May 16, 2016 - I am a first-time Advantage customer. I travel routinely and finally decided to give your company a try. I picked up a car at the SNA airport last Friday (which I currently have until tomorrow). The car pickup is underground in the SNA airport parking garage, so it is fairly dark in there. When I got in the car, I noticed it had a strange smell, wasn't sure what it was so I opened the windows and drove away to my destination 50 miles away. As I was driving down the freeway, I started noticing how filthy the console was, sticky residue, green stuff in the corners, floor not vacuumed. All of which I didn't see in the dark garage. I opened the glove compartment to find someone's prescription bottle (with pills), a large plastic bag. When I picked up someone at my destination they informed me the strong stench in my car was marijuana and the small green stuff was pot.
To top this experience off, when evening rolled around the inside windshield was so dirty the visibility was horrible and dangerous with oncoming lights. I had to pull into a gas station to clean the inside of the windshield and the pot remnants/residue. I have dealt with almost every major car rental company and have never experienced anything like this. I booked reservation with Credit Card through Travelocity. I was given itinerary, reservation and confirmation numbers for 5/11 through 5/18. Flight was late. Advantage didn't hold my midsize car and upgraded me to the next level. They told me that the above held no status in holding our reservation with our rental and were charged 105.00 more. Also, I was told that I would need to purchase a toll pass or would be fined if I went through a toll without it (I was very specific that I would be in Johnson city, which I discovered there were no tolls going to and from), I was charged 9.99 a day for 7 days or 69.92. Furthermore, I was charged an additional 49.95 for a second driver. I was at their mercy and had no luck getting another car rental with other companies, as they told me prior to booking. The car rental cost more than the two flight tickets from BDL.

This company is a problem waiting to happen, they are ready willing and able to take customer service to the lowest level as possible, whenever possible. I was surprised by the extra $200 charge add to the rental at the airport and was told that they would just hold that money and return it when, I brought the car back. The attendant was quick to begin arguing at the counter, asking the next rental car attendant if they had the same policy, my only question was why this wasn't explain prior to getting to arriving to the airport.
Then the charge was processed with the deposit, when I was told that I would only be charged for the rental, that was a lie. The attitude of all these employees add insult to an inconvenience. Their response is that it in the rental agreement which you don't get an advance copy of, but get at the airport when you need a car, who has $200 to give to a company just because you follow by business with them, to be returned when it's convenient to them. It seem the debit card and the credit cards are processed differently. This is a class issue. Debit cards are charged holding your cash in limbo with the excuse "it's in the rental agreement." Money is money. Last time I checked, I am actively reporting this type of behavior until I don't see this type of discrimination anymore.

One star is too many. They deserve 0 star. I arrived at Denver International airport. Standing in the line and many families and kids there and there was a forensic show showing how the murderer used jackhammer to bury his wife's dead body and my kids are watching it. I went to the first desk and told him about it and he told me go and change the channel in a very rude manner and I did. After half an hour of waiting frustrated because there was 8 registers but only one working and a lot of people waiting I mentioned to him about the bad service and they needed more people for better service. To my surprise he treated me like I don't understand their situation and flight delays and so on. And he started getting out of control and he told me that he refuses to give me a car and I need to leave the building of he would call cop.
I was wondering what he was going to tell the cop if he really called them. Please come and take this customer because he is not happy with our service. Plus he used f language as he was going to another desk. Once we told him that it was okay to call cop then he comes back to his desk and ask me if I really want to have a car. It was like a joke. Can't you see that I am waiting for half an hour? I asked for his name and he told me "Michael". I asked for his last name and his business card and he told me he was not going to give me his last name.
People were shocked and I heard one customer in line asked if he was drunk which he was not. He was a frustrated employee that was left alone which is understandable but he was not trained properly and was extremely rude. When I got my car I talk to one staff and asked about him and he told me that this guy is rich and has money so doesn't care to get fired and he treated other people the same. I am going to contact their management office to explain what happened and will not use Advantage Rent-A-Car again.

I had already paid for my rental. As I went to pick it up I got scammed first. The CS guy said "my manager is having a 50% sale on the trucks. 120.00 a week." Now he didn't say 120.00 on top of rental. Well then he said my full coverage would be good so I needed that basic coverage from 132.00. It went to 501.00. What a joke. These are truly scammers and have a license to do it. Shame on you DIA for letting them.

I made a prepaid reservation and cancelled because of all the negative reviews. It is pretty bad out of 180 reviews on this site that they got one star on 170 of them! I am giving them one star because they don't offer zero which is what this scam company deserves. They also own E-Z Rent-A-Car so don't rent from them either. When I submitted my credit card I read under cancellations that if you don't cancel within 24 hours of your reservation you will owe for one day rental. They hide the fact at the very end if you keep scrolling down to the bottom that prepaid reservations are subject to a $50 fee which is ridiculous. I was going to pay $140 for the entire rental including tax so they kept 35%. I think this is illegal and I am going to contact my attorney. I read horror stories online about people finding cockroaches in their cars which were all nasty old worn out pieces of junk. Do not rent a car from this company!!!

16 Apr 2016, I arrived exhausted at Advantage and spoke with an agent, Corey. No cars were available, but I did end up with a van. I told him I was using my USAA insurance and did not need anymore, that USAA would cover all charges including road side service. He said that the city of Atlanta did not accept any transfer of insurance, that I could not use USAA. He said that I could sign a waiver. I am thinking a waiver means that I would not have insurance, I would cover any damages done to car and that would be it. I read as much as I could see on their device for agreement and ending up with an added cost of $151.87. I did not expect that. I think I deserve a refund for that amount.
6 May 2016, I called Advantage and spoke to an agent, Derecka??? about my problem. I felt as though I had to square up (fight) because of her attitude. It was like, "lady you signed for this; I don't see where he charged you insurance; he only charged you road sign assistance." I think the agent, Corey, should have been clear. The representative, Derecka?? should have had a snicker bar. I think I deserve my money back. By the way, my husband called USAA and was told that what Corey said wasn't true. My USAA would have covered all charges. I WILL NOT RENT HERE AGAIN! If I find other names for this company, I will also stay away from it.

While vacationing in Orlando we reserved a car from Advantage. During the process the salesman offered us the CDW or rental insurance. When we declined the insurance because we carry full coverage and also have the CDW on our credit card, the salesman told us that Florida had passed a law requiring us to carry the minimal coverage they offered which was 25 a day extra. We found out later that this is not true. After our trip I called customer service and complained regarding their unethical tactics but wasted my time. She could only read from the agreement that I could have denied the coverage but did not. Later I found out that this tactic is called "insurance up selling." I live in Florida and stayed in Austin for two weeks due to hospitalization of a family member. I rented a car for two weeks. The representative (Christian) informed me there was a $6.99 fee per day for using toll roads. I told him I would be traveling frequently on highways 183 and Mopac. He indicated to me both of the roads are toll roads. If I did not agree to the $6.99 per day charge, I would be charged $25 every time I used either of these roads. I later found out that these roads are only toll roads once you have used them much farther north than I traveled during my 2-week stay. I attempted to argue my point, both with the representative as well as the 1-800 customer service representative. I basically was lied to and taken advantage of by the representative who misinformed me of the toll roads. Not being from the area, I would not have known the difference.
I have since obtained a copy of the actual toll road map, and I never traveled on the toll roads. I was still charged the $97 for the two weeks. The lack of professionalism and customer service was appalling. I spent almost $1,000 for that rental car and yet because of an Advantage Rent-A-Car representative taking advantage of me, I failed to receive any refund. I will NEVER use this company again and would highly recommend no one else does. I should have known how things would go when I approached the counter that night and had to wait to be helped because the employee was on a personal phone call. His name was Christian and he is poor representation for this company.

Like many others here, I chose Advantage, Tampa because I was trying to save a buck and they were the cheapest option. Unlike many others here, my bad review has nothing to do with the transportation to/from the location or from anything like that, the shoddy customer service, or general ineptitude. These things were all very much in play, but for the cheapest rental car company, you expect to get the cheapest quality of service and a lack of the amenities of the nicer companies. But no, this review goes straight to the fact that Advantage, Tampa lied to me and tried to pull the ol' classic ding-and-dent scam on me. That's right. This company will try to scam you.
In my situation, one of the tires on my car was defective. I got in late and didn't notice it until the next morning, but the tire had an enormous tumor coming out of the side-wall of the tire. Ask any of your local mechanics (or simply do a Google search) and you will find that this is incredibly unsafe to drive on, and an impending blowout is sure to follow. So I call, ask for any way that Advantage can tow my car and replace it, as I rented it for the week, and I needed a car but could not drive on this tire. They refused, and said that I had to drive it back to the Tampa or to the Orlando location to return and exchange the car. I told them that there was no way this would be possible as the tire was unsafe for me to drive on. They essentially told me, "Well go fly a kite because we don't know what else to say."
Due to a full schedule for the week (visiting family and such), I decided to bum rides all week and then change the tire, and drive VERY carefully back to Tampa on the spare once the time came to return the car and fly home, knowing that I would dispute paying full price once I returned the car. I did not drive the car a single time until returning to Tampa.
Flash forward to getting back to Advantage, Tampa. I was greeted by the nice, old man who sits on the bench outside and receives the returns. I told him about the tire, which he inspected, and told him that since I was unable to use the car all week I would need to receive some sort of refund. To my pleasant surprise, he immediately assures me that they would not charge me a penny for the car since it was obviously defective and that all I needed to do was fill out a form saying what happened. I did so and returned home.
Days, weeks, months go by, and the charge is still on my credit card bill. I try to contact Advantage, Tampa, but (as others have noticed) I can not get them on the phone. And I mean, literally hours of calling and waiting on that infamous rotating message that they have, and never once getting a live body. So I dispute the claim with my credit card company.
A few more days go by and I receive a call from my insurance agent who informs me that Advantage, Tampa is making a claim against me for damaging the car! And no, not even the tire. Physical damage to the fender and bumper! They claimed that I wrecked the car that I was unable to drive! Then, my credit card company tells me that the reason Advantage never refunded my charge (as they assured me they would) is because I "agreed to return and exchange the car but instead kept it for the entire week." This kind of conduct goes beyond unprofessional, my friends, and is now full-fledged insurance fraud. Tl;dr -- Was given a defective car that I could not drive. Was told price would be fully refunded. They never refunded and went AWOL, then filed a fraudulent insurance claim against me.

I extended my rental agreement for another week. I called the customer service department on the due date to extend it. I was told that my extension request was granted and that I was going to be charged an additional $163.93. The charge for the rental appeared on my credit card billing statement three days later. Four days after I requested an extension of the contract I received threatening telephone calls from the location where I picked it up that the car has been reported stolen to authorities and that I was going to be charged with theft. I had the right to use the vehicle if I paid for it and was given the right to use it. I told the man who called that he could do whatever he wants. However, with my having proof of payment and a confirmation number for the extension of the rental, I can easily win this case in court and make you be responsible for all legal costs.
In addition, I would sue Advantage Rent A Car and, hopefully, put the company out of business. I clearly understand why this particular rental car agency has a one star rating and it has moved out of my local airport recently along with other airports. I would not recommend this particular rental car company to anyone, even if it has the best prices. Advantage Rent A Car does not care about customer service, has poor communications, and has agents who does not deserve to have their jobs. Maybe someone will sue the living daylight out of this particular rental car agency one day and send it to jail where it belongs!!

The girl at Payless Car Rental told me that they were out of cars and to go upstairs to talk to someone. When I did there was a sign on the window saying that they were out of cars and went home for the night and would be back in the morning. Other bad experiences is them trying to sell you optional insurance at the counter and forcing you to buy it or you can't take the car. Cars are old and dirty. No maintenance or cleanliness even though on their site all insurance is optional.
This is a rip off company and they deserve to go out of business. Advantage! Wake UP! If you were treating customers better, giving good service and helping your clients instead of ripping them off you'd be making money with your rates. Are you guys really this stupid you can't see right in front of your eyes customers are basically NOT COMING BACK!? The executives of this company probably do not have a clue! You deserve to go out of business!!! Karma is kicking you in the rear right now! You can't rip off customers and expect to grow!! Idiots. If you are a consumer I urge you to stay away from this company and carrentals.com, they are nothing but a scam to cheat customers. Be warned.

First of all the rental counter was suppose to be at the airport according to Travelocity. Secondly they nickel and dime you to death. You wait in a long line because of few agents and they nickel and dime all customers. They do not have the car you ordered. They want more for a comparable car because they do not have the car you ordered and want you to upgrade. If you don't you get a smaller unit for the price of the unit you wanted. Push prepaid gas telling you they will be cheaper and they are not. Push insurance that you do not need. Do not rent from this company.

I had a wreck in car and myself and police tried for 3 1/2 hours to reach Advantage by phone. The police got a person on the phone and gave me the phone. The person told me she was too busy and to call back. I paid for the car to be taken to the lot I picked it up. The police took me to Enterprise and I rented a car for my trip. The rates they quote are not what they charge. The only reason I rented was that it was to be $150.00 less. It was not. It has now been 30 days and no contact has been made by ADVANTAGE to my insurance company, myself, or my attorney. All have requested information. What bad customer service. I just recently got back from Oahu and had an amazing trip up until someone at Advantage decided to pocket my GoPro. I returned the car roughly around 3 pm, realized it was missing. I immediately called around 4 pm and never got a callback. So I came back to the car rental around 8 pm and mysteriously the GoPro was never found or seen. The manager wouldn't even let me check the car we rented to see for myself. They didn't ask for me to leave my information in case it did turn up and when I was leaving they were all looking at us and discussing something.
The whole experience was extremely unprofessional and left a bad taste with us regarding Advantage. I do take blame for leaving the GoPro under the seat but at the same time would think that someone would have to integrity and honesty to turn in the camera. I have a lot of memories on that camera and hard work which stings the most. They can keep the camera for all I care and just give me my SD card back.

He tells me that there are no other vehicles available. Another customer comes up and says his vehicle is too large and is offered a second vehicle. Because I am still standing there and hear the conversation I am then told to stand to the side and he will find another vehicle for me. In December my friend reserved a car for Albuquerque. When we got there we were told they only had a Prius. The agent went on for 20 minutes telling us how dangerous it would be to drive it in Santa Fe and tried to get us to rent a larger car at around $400.00!! A DAY!! I was terrified the first couple days until I noticed residents were driving Priuses.
Last week I rented a car in Atlanta. Advantage has digitized their renter's contract so now you are presented with a computer screen about 5" square. You are asked to read thru 7 screens each containing a legal contract that probably would fill a normal piece of paper. I TOLD the agent "I want NO INSURANCE". I scanned all the pages and initialed, then their system crashed and we had to start all over. The second time I, admittedly, didn't read each screen in much detail as I assumed the screens would be the same. Upon returning the car I was charged $24.99 a day for insurance. When I called to dispute the charge I got nowhere... Do not plan on any functional customer service when dealing with Advantage.

When I arrived at Advantage I was informed that they do not accept that insurance (ok) and I would have to take theirs and my new total would be $84.68 w/ taxes and insurance. "How is this possible?" I asked. "When I have a credit card confirmed reservation for $34.68 w/ taxes included... Are you charging me $50 for insurance for a 1 day rental? Give me your name so I can call customer service and tell them who I spoke to" at which point I was told that they are not allowed to give out their names (as I notice him take off his name tag and put it in his pocket).
Called customer service twice to inform them of this and sat on hold two separate times for a little over an hour (with no answer) before I got frustrated and hung up (typing this as I sit waiting on hold with them now for call number 3 and the phone timer is currently at 1:01:57). This was my first rental experience in Florida. They did NOT inform me that there were sections of toll roads that were not manned, and as I intended to pay all my tolls in cash, I opted out of their Sunpass rental. Much to my dismay, I ended up on a few of these roads where the tolls amounted to about $10.00 total, but Advantage wants to charge me $25.00 per toll (about 6 total).
Their customer service number had me on hold for nearly an hour a day as I attempted to contact them to explain what I encountered, and only after I returned the car did the return agent suggest I contact Sunpass, which I did. Sunpass explains that Advantage has instructed them to NOT allow renters to simply pay the tolls so they could screw their customers out of $25.00 per toll.
After working things out with Sunpass, I finally waited long enough for an Advantage customer service rep to answer the phone, and he was absolutely the most rude person I had ever spoken with. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he simply kept saying that he was trained to work independently and had no supervisor, which I call **! It wasn't until that I told them I could not pay that much and I would have to go somewhere else that magically my $200 deposit went away. The front desk ladies were slow and very rude to anybody who didn't speak English. Luckily I'm not one of those people but I watched them bully three other people into paying four times the amount of money I did. Then it took an hour and a half for my car to be brought up from the back lot and they tried to talk me out of having a suburban even though that's what I paid for, they said that a sedan would be the same price.
I would not recommend this place to anybody. The only good quality this place had was when I brought my car back. It took maybe 30 seconds to turn it in because I had no paperwork to sign. The shuttle drivers back and forth to the airport were amazing and the only people with good customer service. I hope you take this feedback and are able to make correct for future customers. For our trip to Nashville, TN, I made a reservation online for a midsize car via the Advantage website on 11/14/2015. I specifically declined the offer of insurance through Advantage, since the auto policy we have is perfectly sufficient and covers rental vehicles. When we arrived at the Nashville Airport on 12/04/2015, the company representative at the Advantage booth again suggested we add company provided insurance, so I explained that we did not need it, and why.
Then the lady asked me for my credit card, which surprised me because I had pre-paid my reservation. She said that the company would only charge me a $200.00 deposit, which would be refunded back when the car was returned. That sounded legit, so I did not check the printed bill that she folded and handed over to me together with the rest of the papers. By the way, the process of signing the rental contract doesn't let clients see what they agree upon. You are given the electronic signature capture pad and guided by the company representative.
At the Advantage parking lot, it turned out that instead of a car, we got a van (Toyota Sienna). I approached the Advantage employee working there trying to get something more in-line with our reservation. He explained that the company was short of cars, even though I saw a few there. We should have come back to the company booth to get that sorted out (remember, we reserved the car three weeks in advance! ), but we didn't.
On return home (12/10/2015), I looked at the bill that was emailed to me from Advantage, and discovered the extra insurance charge, which they call LDW (loss damage waiver). For about two weeks after that I was trying to contract the company Customer Service, Here are the channels I used: Phone (800.777.5500): multiple attempts, no response whatsoever; Voicemail: nobody called me back; Email: cs@easyrac.com bounced back as undeliverable; customer.care@advantage.com nobody replied; Fax (954.337.3707): twice, no reaction.
The only contact option that actually worked for me (meaning that someone did eventually respond), was a complaint filed with BBB. Here are a few recommendations I can offer based on my first and last experience with the Advantage Rent-a-Car company: Avoid it like the plague. If you happen to rent from them then: 1. Don't trust a single word you hear from the company representative. 2. Watch out for extraneous options to be included in your contract, regardless of what you say. 3. Verify what you are getting. 4. Forget about customer service, it simply doesn't exist (for customers, at least).

The experience at Advantage at Boston Logan airport was one of the worst ones. We had forgotten a set of keys in the car upon return, and had called right away when we noticed it was missing. We were told the key was found and was at the counter for us to pick up whenever since the desk was open 24 hours. We came back in the evening and the person at the desk (who did not want to give his name) was not at all concerned and told me right away that the he had no ideas about any keys left by previous employees for us to pick up. I told him that I was told the keys were at the counter with our contract. The gentleman superficially opened 2 drawers not even looking deeply or moving the papers to check for the keys. He did not even ask my name or confirmation number to look up possible notes left by the previous shift.
After 15 minute he asked for my name which bizarre. I would think the first thing they would ask is your name and confirmation number to look up our contract as the keys were attached to them. Eventually he then called the employee that had promised me earlier that day the keys were found. He told me that the previous employee had not remembered having talk to me or anything about our keys. This was frustrating because I know now they are just lying to my face. He then said there is nothing he can do about it and we had no way to get the keys. Side note - we needed the keys to get our apartment and this guy was just saying "tough luck" at 9 pm. I stood there and insisted something be done.
Getting annoyed of me he calls the manager and then tells me that our keys are in the manager's office but they don't have access to the office. He tells me again he cannot do anything about it. He rudely says he cannot break into the office and there is nothing he can do. I again stood there insisting that why the keys were not placed on lost and found and what were the company policies regarding items left in cars. I mentioned that due to the holidays our apartment manager was not available and if we didn't get the keys we couldn't get into our house tonight. He again showed attitude and showed no concern towards our situation. The gentleman again gets frustrated and then all of a sudden changes his story again after another phone call. He leaves without telling me what is going on. He calls his colleague and through her we find out he has gone 45 minutes one way to pick up keys at another employee's house!
So why the keys are at an employee's house is mind boggling and at this point am concerned for our safety. The gentleman comes back after 2 hours and when I asked calmly for explanation only tells me "you have the keys what more do you want?" Side note - while he was out getting the keys his colleague was acting incredibly rude to us when we asked for his status and at one point cursed at me and my fiance telling us it was our fault we forgot the keys in the car in the first place. Throughout the whole time it seemed to me that they knew exactly where the keys were but did not want to get them for us as it would take time and effort. Not once did both the employees apologize or showed empathy to our situation. Instead they blamed us and acted as they had done a huge favor by fixing their mistake.
In the end I admittedly got upset and yes shouted at the guy who had went to get the keys. I really wanted to thank him but his tone and attitude remained aggressive when I asked him simply why my property would be taken to a employee's house when he came back. I got in a little argument with him in which he it ended with him threatening me! I asked him for his card and name and he stated "I'll give you something else if you want" as he stepped toward me as to fight me. This is all in front of my fiance who is scared and was shaken that we wouldn't be able to go home tonight. In the end I walked off knowing nothing good can come with dealing with this sort of people. How this company can be so unprofessional and disrespectful is beyond my understanding. I would never rent from Advantage again and hope anyone reading this doesn't either.

I rented a vehicle from Advantage Rent-A-Car on December 5th, 2015, at the Denver International Airport location. Prior, I had requested a compact car. When I arrived around 11 PM, I was greeted by a Black, female employee. Her demeanor was very rude, to say the least. Upon completion of the contractual paperwork, I was issued a car located in lot parking spot #315. Although the vehicle was supposed to be a compact Hyundai, it was a mid-sized Chevrolet. The gas tank was only ½ full. When I went back inside and advised the female employee, she stated to me that I could either change vehicles or bring the car back with the gas gauge at ½. I chose the latter.
When I attempted to leave the lot, the male lot attendant at the security gate would not allow me to leave since my contract stated a Hyundai, and not a Chevrolet. I backed up the vehicle and proceeded into the office area. When I walked into the office area, I requested to speak to the manager. Upon hearing this, the female employee became very irate and began screaming and stated the manager was not there. The office manager ran out of his office and to my location.
The office manager (a Hispanic male) offered to give me an upgrade due to the circumstances. He advised me that he would give me a Chevrolet Suburban at the same agreed contractual price ($53.53). He exited the office and drove the vehicle to the side of the office. When he exited the vehicle, he stated to me that the tank was only ¾ full and that I needed to bring it back at ¾. I, again, attempted to leave the lot and was met by the same male lot attendant. I handed him my contract and vehicle checkout form. I advised him that the tank was only ¾ full. He looked at the gauge and circled the ¾ number on the form. I signed the form and he handed me the yellow and pink copies.
On December 8th, 2015, at approximately 4 PM, I returned the vehicle to Advantage Rent-A-Car. I was greeted by a female, Hispanic employee. She used a hand-held scanner to check the vehicle back in. She showed me a pop-up screen on the scanner which stated that I agreed to bring the vehicle back ½ filled with gasoline. She advised me if that was correct, to press the “OK” button. I advised her that the vehicle was actually just under ¾ full when I picked it up, and I returned it with just over ¾ full. She looked at the gauge and acknowledged that what I had stated was true. She said I would receive an email of the estimated charges of $53.53 in the near future.
While looking at my emails on December 9th, 2015, I viewed an email from Advantage stating they had charged me a total of $131.96. Apparently, in addition to the $53.53, they charged me a refueling fee of $69.67. I tried to contact the Advantage Rental Car office in Denver but all their voice message boxes were full. I called several times but no one would pick up the phone. I eventually contacted the national customer service line and was connected to Edgar **. He took my information and I emailed him the paper slip that stated the vehicle was 3/4 full. Eventually, I received an email from Advantage stating they were going to credit back my credit card for the fueling fee.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend you stay away from these ass clowns. Advantage may be a little cheaper than the bigger, rental car chains but the hassle is not worth the discount. It is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever encountered. The only reason it is not getting a 1 star is because of the Denver manager and the assistance I received from Edgar **. If you have any question regarding the professionalism of this company, just take a look at the other reviews on Yelp.

It was represented to me that I had unlimited miles on the car. I had a three day reservation at a cost of $111.00. In addition to the inconvenience of them not having a lock box for an early morning drop off, their price representation is extremely deceptive. I was never informed until after I had signed the contract that a $200 deposit would be required. The representative told me that it would be returned to me when I returned the car.
When I received my reconciliation statement, charges appeared such as a 14% state tax. (Sales tax in NC is not 14%). There was also a mileage charge. This was never explained. The rep. just casually asked me where was I driving the car to and how many miles was the location. I responded that the distance from Raleigh to Wilson was at least 70 miles one way so you have to figure that I would be driving at least 200 miles round trip plus around town driving. He wrote on the contract 75 miles and they used that number to subtract from my total usage of 240 to create an additional charge. What was supposed to be an $111 bill ended up being nearly $240. This company's advertising is extremely deceptive and there are no advantages to using Advantage. They received one star from me when they deserved 0. I will never use them again.

This company clearly does not care what shape their rental cars are in. The first one they gave me had a huge crack going across the windshield. They didn't even notice it. I got in the car and started to drive away and there it was. I asked for another car and they made me do the paperwork all over again. When the new car came, the seats were covered in stains in the front and back. I asked if this is was normal for them to rent out cars in such bad condition and was told that cars with light interiors always stain easily. On top of this, one of their drivers was the rudest I'd worked with. Not worth paying a few less bucks than the companies who really care about their cars and their customers. You have been warned!

My wife and I chose to rent with Advantage over the Thanksgiving holiday since they had the "best" price at the airport we flew into. That will be the one and only time we ever rent from them. What they neglect to tell you is that on top of the price that is online there is a ridiculous $200 deposit on top of the taxes and fees that you pay. After you return your vehicle to them they take their sweet time in giving you your deposit back. We were told it would be 7-30 days before we would get our deposit back. That is completely ridiculous. Also, if you do not have a high enough credit score they will not rent to you, which is something that you may find out only once you go to pay for your rental. This could really screw things up for your travel plans. Don't waste your time renting from this company. The hassle of dealing with them and their terrible deposit is not worth the few dollars you could save by going to the better rental companies.

Booked a car at their LAX office about two weeks before arrival, paying the agreed rate ($118.00) in advance. No problems picking up the car. The next morning, I noticed that the car was full of ants. Lovely. Had to stop and buy rubbing alcohol at a gas station to try to get them under control. By chance I was passing by the airport on my travels, so I called ahead, brought the car in and was given an ant-free car. Very nice. But when I looked at the paperwork I realized that I was being charged an additional $200+. When I explained to the woman at the desk that this wasn't going to be ok, she told me she'd take care of it when I brought the car back, but when I brought it back there was a long line and I didn't want to miss my flight. I figured I'd take care of it on the phone -- big mistake.
How many times did I call? How many times was I told I'd receive a call back within 24 hours? How many calls back did I receive? Let's go with NONE. I finally turned it over to my bank, who got only some of that money back. Moral of the story? It might look like you're saving money, but you're not in the end. Plus: you might get ants.

The next day after picking up other family members, we discovered that the rear passenger side seat belt had been disabled. Someone had tied a large knot in the belt, which had retracted and could not be released. I tried to call the Denver location but was unable to reach a human being and ALL mailboxes were full at all extensions.
I was able to reach the national toll free number after holding for 15 minutes and was given a report or ticket number which is **. I was told that someone from the Denver location would contact me by phone but I never received a call back. I tried to call the Denver office over the next several days but never got past the recording. We were over a hour away from Denver so driving back to the agency was not an option. We were unable to seat more than 3 people in the car as the rear middle seat in the KIA is a hump and was very uncomfortable. We did not feel safe using the entire back seat as there was snow and ice on the roads.
After several days and after having access to a tool kit, someone in our family unbolted the seat belt from beneath the seat which took an hour and much effort of 3 people, and was able to release the knot. He then re-bolted the seat belt, HOWEVER it should be checked by a mechanic to ensure that it is safe. I would like a refund since we were unable to use the car as planned, we were inconvenienced and we put in an unsafe car. Customer service was absolutely dismal.

Customer service at the counter refused to release a car. I was willing to buy additional rental insurance. This company did not even attempt to sell rental insurance. Customer service was very poor and the agent was not willing to accept the current proof of insurance which I was willing to bring within an hour. I rented a Hyundai Santa Fe while in Orlando, FL in July 2015 for a family vacation. I took out the insurance with Expedia for this car rental. Brought car back and this company has been HARASSING me for payment for damages done to a door that were NOT done by me. The worker of "Dis" Advantage Rental Car, knew exactly where these scratches were when we returned the car! This is a bit suspicious and seems like a regular scam that they play on customers or, more specifically, minority customers like myself.
Is this what you do to Asian families on a daily basis? I kept receiving harassing emails and letters from this company asking for $1,042 for the damages to the door. I contacted my own car insurance company and they paid $642 to Advantage. I contacted the company via certified letters telling them that they need to get the rest of the payment from Expedia where I paid for the extra insurance upon rental of the Santa Fe. Even with the certified letters AND the phone calls to Advantage in which NO ONE EVER CALLED ME BACK, I am still being billed for the outstanding amount of $400! I wonder how many times "Dis" Advantage Rental Car has pulled this scheme on their customers? How many times has a person been billed for this door? I am hoping to put this company out of business as my next step is to contact my local news media outlets and go public with my complaint!

My wife and I traveled to California to visit our son from San Antonio. We arrived late in DFW Airport upon returning to Texas. We had made a reservation with Advantage Rent-A-Car and we're staying with family that night. Everything went well and we returned car early the next morning to catch our early flight back to San Antonio.
This occurred back in mid September. Now fast forward to Late November. I was checking my bank balance online when I noticed 2 charges to my account from Advantage. One charge was 7.75 the other charge was 100.00. The explanation from Advantage was the 7.75 charge was total for 4 tolls and the 100.00 was 4 administration fees of 25.00 for each toll. I voiced my displeasure and they referred me to the dept that charges admin fees. This department does not answer phone. Have called twice. Left voice mails with their voice mail promising to call me back ASAP. Beware of this rip off if you are renting a car in DFW airport. Very difficult to avoid tolls in that area of town.

Subsequently, after I went home, I was billed by Advantage for the tolls which I paid plus an administrative fee. I sent Advantage copies of my credit card statement which showed I paid the tolls and followed up with a phone call to verify they received the copies. They said they had and everything was fine. Now, months later Advantage claims I did not pay the tolls. I have spent literally hours on the phone with various Advantage personnel to try to clear this up to no avail. They keep bouncing around from one phone number to another and each time I have to re-explain the problem only to be told there is nothing they can do and then get referred to another phone number.

About 2 weeks later I get a bill in the mail for not paying my tolls (paid for the sun pass when I rented the car). After getting the run around for weeks, I finally got that taken care of (after several calls and emails). It just so happens 2 days after I get that taken care of, I get another email about the damage. Isn't that convenient. Still dealing with this issue. Requested previous damage reports but was told that's not their procedure. What a nightmare. Run far from this company. I can't believe after seeing all the issues that this company is still around. We rented a car from them in Austin, TX. We returned it two hours early and brought the keys to their in-airport counter where the rep was working with another customer. He told us to just drop the keys into the drop box on the counter and he would take care of checking it in. We specifically asked if we needed a receipt and he said no and that we "good to go." The company did not check the keys in until the next morning and logged that in on our receipt as the time that we turned in the car. We were then charged for another day at a much higher rate. We called and finally got hold of a rep who promised they would look into it and call us back. We said we would do a charge back if it wasn't resolved, and the rep actually said to go ahead and do that! They never called back, of course.
The wait time to get hold of anyone is so ridiculously long, and we had warned them we would do a charge back, so we did. Now they are disputing our charge back, saying the check-in time for the car was when they finally got around to checking in the keys the morning after we dropped them off. So, they are asking for proof of documentation of when we dropped off the car, when their rep stated we didn't need it and did not provide it! Nice little scam they have going. Judging from all the other complaints against this company, they need to be run out of business. We plan to file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General and the BBB. Everyone else should do the same. Maybe a class action suit is in order by now...

My flight arrived at 11:00 but we had to wait for a gate to open before we could deplane, so I tried to call Advantage at 11:05, 11:10 and 11:20 and no answer? We finally arrived at a gate to deplane around midnight and the counter was closed. They also told me they were open until midnight the night before, so I told them I called and there was no answer and when I arrived around midnight the Advantage counter was closed.
I wound up renting a car from another company and had to pay an extra $200.00! I asked Advantage if this is how they always do business? I had encountered this same situation about a year ago when I flew into the same airport on a delayed flight which arrived at 1:00am and the rental car company I had my car reservation with still had my car waiting for me at the same price the next morning. I emailed Advantage to try to get an explanation and never received any type of response back. I would never rent a car from this company ever again and would never recommend this company to anyone, actually I have made a point to tell my family and friends to never use Advantage!

Our family just returned from a week's vacation at Fort Myers Beach, Florida. We booked our rental car reservation through Airport Rental Cars.com. The rental car partner was ACE Rental Car with free shuttle pick-up at the Southwest Florida International Airport at Fort Myers, FL. The rate quoted and booked on May 9, 2015 was for a 7 passenger Dodge Grand Caravan "Sedona" Minivan for a weekly rate of $183.12. There was estimated taxes and fees of $67.73 for a Grand Total of $250.85 due at pick-up. Among the information provided about our reservation by Airport Rental Cars.com included a statement that said "Payment for this reservation is due when the car is picked up and will be charged by ACE".
[Note: There was no choice on the Airport Rental Cars.com website for us to prepay this amount. Without a choice of prepaying for the rental car we, as well as everyone else that booked on the Airport Rental Cars.com website, most likely assumed that the car would be available when we booked the reservation. If you had a choice to prepay then you would be able to pay the estimated price to ensure you got the advertised weekly car rental rate.]
After an uneventful flight from St. Louis, MO to Fort Myers, Florida on Nov 7th, we arrived around 3pm and took the ACE free shuttle over to the nearby ACE Rent a Car facility to get our reserved Minivan. Along with the rest of the passengers on the shuttle we were then completely surprised to find out that ACE had no available rental cars (except for those folks that prepaid directly through the ACE Rent A Car website). We were then given the option by the ACE agent to go to either one of the two other Rent A Car counters that had available rental cars. (Note: It appeared that both Advantage Rent A Car and E-Z Rent A Car just happened to be conveniently located unseen behind the front of the building where ACE was located. There was no advertising on the front of the building indicating E-Z or Advantage that we observed.)
We then joined the chaos of standing in lines of dissatisfied customers that were trying to get available cars from either Advantage or E-Z. After approximately an hour wait, we were next in line. The Advantage Rep surprisingly informed us that our ACE reservation would have no value with them and we were then given the Advantage "Walk In" rates for a 7 passenger Minivan which just happened to be a Dodge Grand Caravan "Sedona". Rather than match the ACE Weekly Rate of $183.12 we were then charged by Advantage the exorbitant weekly rate of $600! Taxes and fees and other charges added an additional $255.44 plus the refundable $200 security deposit. Our Total Charges were $1,055.44!! What a shock! This was after we declined all other "Optional" products such as CDW; SLI; PAI/PEC; RSP; Tolls; FPO; and GPS!
We were then faced with the on the spot decision to either take it or leave it. At the time if we went directly to the Advantage website that same day for the same trip dates we would have been quoted a weekly rate of $213.41 for a 7 passenger Minivan. The estimated taxes and fees and other charges would have brought the total charge to $584.79 as compared to our credit card charge of some $1,055.44. This resulted in a difference of some $470.65 that we considered having overpaid for the Minivan. Never again will we book our reservations with Airport Rental Car.com, ACE, E-Z or Advantage. No wonder the company was named Advantage as they sure took Advantage of us!

Never have I seen this done as it's always done at the booth. It's dark so I want to back up into a spot and look the car over at my leisure. She didn't want me backing up, so had to do it right there at the booth. Then another car pulls up behind me, so I need to hurry to get the form filled out. Flustered, I just handed it back to the lady and drove off. Told my husband I had a terrible feeling about this company!
When returning the car, I SWEAR the attendant walked up to the car like she had a mission and immediately asked if a rock had hit the windshield. We are like NO, not while we had it. I at least convinced him to do the quote with and without the code and he said "YES," he was seeing the 2 different quotes but I needed to understand that by using the code I would get far better service and a far better car thus the price increase! WHAT?? I pointed out the car is a Standard in both quotes and he began getting very upset. He said I should let my husband take care of the rental car as women are not equipped to understand car business. WHAAAATTTT??? I rented a car from this awful outfit on 6th Oct 2015 returning it ten days later. At the check-in the girl tried to get me to upgrade etc. This is understandable if annoying as I always say I have been coming for 15 years to see my sick girlfriend and all I do is park up when I get to her parents' house. We are both sensitive to light so she doesn't travel out anywhere apart from appointments.
I get the car and as always they take a copy of your credit card and 'reserve' $200 for reasons that I am not sure about but they all do it. I returned the car and there was no one there to check - this must be the only company that does this at such a busy prime location as an international airport? In 15 there has always been someone to check the car over.
I handed the keys at reception, told the lady my finishing mileage and I asked 'is that everything' and she said 'yes, you are good to go.' When I got back in England and checked my bank account they had taken the $200 dollars from my card. I called customer service and the sloppy lady that answered never apologised. She just said the money would be refunded in 7 business days.
Such uncaring curtness always makes me think is this just a dissatisfied employee or is it typical. Anyway they only partially refunded me. I called again on 19th October and I think I found the only polite and competent employee at Advantage (Maria ** for the record). She said it states I had taken collision damage extra cover and I said I did not and told her I could scan and fax my agreement to her - she must have had a copy on her system as she said 'yes I can see now that you didn't sir.' She explained she would have to talk to her manager to get a refund approved and warned me I may be on hold for some time. No problem, she came back and said it had been authorised but would take up to 7 business days.
Well I checked today and it hasn't come thru. Called customer services and I was told it has not been authorised - I asked the lady rep why and she said I need to speak to Maria ** again as she has the notes. I ask why they can't see the case notes. No reply. She said she was at lunch call back. I called over an hour later and got a male rep this time and he seemed on drugs with incredible pauses and when I repeat "hello hello hello" and about to put the phone down he says "sorry sir" and then any question I ask again incredible silences and I ask "What are you going to do about it?" etc. I had to prompt this moron all the way.
He tried to put me thru but was told by someone else she is on lunch. I redialed after and tried again and told only Maria could deal with this problem and that she was on lunch I queried how long her lunch break was and he momentarily put me on hold and came back and said she had to rush home for an emergency. I asked to speak to the manager and was told all managers were in a meeting. I asked if every manager was in a meeting and he said yes. I asked who the manager was and was told this is confidential information and to call back and ask for Maria tomorrow.
I said I can't believe there is no one available in management and he got very curt with me and repeated in most sarcastic tones to call back tomorrow. I said Advantage should not only refund me $200 but my bank charge for handling non-sterling transaction i.e. my bank is in pounds and Advantage wrongfully took the $200 incurring an additional 3.72 conversion fee. He said they are not responsible for that even though I suggested they should 'make me whole' as I have heard Judge Judy say so many times.
I had prefaced my request to speak to management by saying that all my phone calls are recorded (I have true-call) and I wanted to give the manager copies of my dealings and to ask if they are happy that a customer should be treated in this way. Ok on the face of it, it's pretty minor they owe me approx $50 but I feel like I am being a nuisance asking for my money back - money they should not have taken. 1. I want to know how/why the initial $200 was taken. 2. Why I was only partially refunded, saying I took out extra insurance. 3. Why only Maria ** can deal with my problem. I secretly videoed my transaction at the counter just to cover myself. Advantage are not the only rental company that try to sneak charges so I cover all bases now.

I was then informed that none of my own insurance would be remotely adequate for their vehicle (I checked and it was fine) and was heavily pressured to buy more products. Was then told my trip to the beach would take me along toll roads (not true). Was also told there was no way I would ever make it to the beach without a GPS, despite the fact that I have a cell phone. I had to decline about 10 different add-ons and each time I was basically informed that I was making the largest mistake of my life.
On the way back after I parked the car in one of the return parking spots, some random employee ran after me and told me I'd have to park the car at the other end of the lot or else I would lose the $200 deposit they charged. I am under the impression that everyone in America carries a gun and am astonished that nobody at Advantage has been shot yet. Oh, and the shuttle from the airport was a nondescript white van with an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper taped to it that had "Advantage" scribbled on it in marker - everyone missed the shuttle the first few times around because it was so poorly marked.

I was rented a dirty car and that should have been the tipoff. After driving it from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone I found the tread bars showing on the front tires and exposed wires on the left front. I found out when I had a flat 14 miles south of Yellowstone. When I called the company it took over 2 hours to get a response on what to do. I was driving at 50 MPH on the spare with the other bad front tire back toward Jackson, Wy. It was 300 miles from Yellowstone to the closest place (Salt Lake City) that had a replacement tire for the flat one and the other tire was unsafe to drive.
The Salt Lake City manager said he would send a tow truck with replacement vehicle to replace an unsafe vehicle (no mention of any charges). He said he did not even know that that car was on the lot (we found paperwork in the glove box - the car started in San Francisco, when to Las Vegas then ended up in SLC). The car had +18,000 miles (apparently the original tires). The tow truck driver looked at it and said the struts were bent and yes the tires should have been replaced before we got the car. Three weeks later we get a $1200 bill for replacing BOTH front tires, alignment, a day loss of use charge, an administrative charge and TOWING ($700 for that alone). What a load of garbage - being charged for an unsafe and non-inspected car.
I called 15 times (once a day) before I finally got a callback. The agent had me on the phone for 45 minutes and I finally got the charge for the extra tire and alignment dropped but was told I had to talk with the SLC manager for the other charges. I have been calling for over a week and there has been no answer. What an unprofessional company. Sounds a like a lawsuit in the making. There is no way that bill is going to be paid.

I paid for a mid-size vehicle to rent through CarRental.com. When I arrived at the Advantage counter in Phoenix at 10:30 p.m., I was told by the agent that I had indicated pick up time at noon. At the time I reserved the vehicle, I did not know my flight schedule. The agent told me that after four hours after the indicated pick up time, the computer program resets itself. Really? Basically, he was telling me that he did not have a mid-size vehicle available. I asked him for a smaller vehicle and he said he had none. Long story short. I had to pay $18.00 a day for a Chevy Suburban on top of what I had already paid for the mid-size rental. I think I got shafted. I will never rent from Advantage again.

Never rent from Advantage in Hawaii. We recently returned a car to Advantage on a trip to Hawaii, and unfortunately there had been traffic so we were in a hurry to not miss our flight. They charged us for excessive sand in the car, which there was not. The car was not any dirtier than any of the other 7 trips I've taken to Hawaii, but this time they described my car as horribly dirty. We tried to contact customer service, were given a complaint number they never responded to, and eventually told that there was no way they were refunding our money because we didn't have pictures of the car. I was hung up on three times in the process of getting this information. Worst rental experience of my life!

We're told we had to leave a $200 deposit. Ok that's fine. Well we never got an Impala, got an old dirty Sonata without a full tank of gas! Upon returning the car now with a full tank we noticed $400+ in charges. When asked for our deposit back they couldn't reverse charges, and we were charged for their insurance even after we declined. We showed them our contract but they had no authority to give us our money back! And had to contact their corporate office. I rented a car from Advantage in Maui in September 2015. I knew that gas prices in Maui could be volatile so I chose the "pre-pay" option when signing paperwork and getting the keys. The car itself was fine and the woman at the desk was sweet and polite. When I returned the car and got my e-mailed receipt, I noticed my gas charge was over twice what it should have been. I tried calling the Maui office to get an answer, but despite many failed calls and several unreturned voicemails, I never heard back. Then I tried the customer service line. The man I spoke with told me that I has signed up for the "drop-off and pay" option, which was something like $9.00/gallon! I never would have agreed to something like that, so I told him I wanted that fixed. He said he'd send it along to their corporate office for review.
Three weeks later and I still haven't heard from the corporate office. I called the customer service line back today and was told that it was opened twice but no actions were taken. The man I spoke with said he's never seen it take this long, but what comfort is that to me, right? He couldn't give me a phone number or e-mail address by which to contact the corporate office - apparently they have no way of contacting them directly. He reflagged my complaint as High Priority and resent it, but who knows how long it could take to get resolved? I'm extremely dissatisfied with this company and their poor, no, ENTIRELY ABSENT customer service. It's clear from the other comments here that Advantage is a cash grab operation which cares nothing about its customers. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

I went online to rent a car in Denver to travel to Frisco, Co. for 24 hours and the total car price was only 67.91. When I got to Denver airport and Advantage took me to their car lot then everything changed. It went from a smooth simple deal to they did not have my car and they had to upgrade me and I went from a car with a 6cyl. to a SUV with a 6 cyl. as well. Not much of a upgrade and the cost went from 67.91 to 243.14 and believe me they rushed me through and had me to sign the contract. And told me it was only a deposit and I would get all of it back other than the 67.91.
Well as time went by and calling even to the corporate office there was nothing getting done about it and they dragged the time out for well over a month. And finally the only thing they told me is that I signed and there was nothing they can do about it. So for what it is worth watch what you sign with this company. Our day started out at 3am. After a 40 min drive to Mitchell Field Airport, in Milw. Wi., we took a connecting flight to Atlanta, and then on to Raleigh, NC, to celebrate the wedding of our oldest son. My wife and I are very thorough when planning trips and this one was no exception, having everything booked months in advance, including car rental.
We arrived in Raleigh on schedule at 11:30am, collected our luggage, and took a shuttle to the Advantage office. After waiting 20 min for the shuttle, and another 30 min to make it to the counter, I was informed there were no cars left. I assured the worker behind the counter that I had booked the car well in advance, had a confirmation #, even had a printout from them stating there's "no reason to call ahead, we will have your car waiting for you when you arrive". All this to no avail. The worker responded with a blank stare and offered no solution to this breach of contract. When I asked if there would be a car available the next day, the answer was, we don't know!
There's one thing I do know for a fact, I will never use this company myself, and will recommend to all my friends and family and all reading this post to avoid them like the plague. When a business treats its customers with such disregard and contempt they deserve more than just negative comments. Unfortunately tarring and feathering is no longer acceptable in today's society, so the hope that those who read this rant and choose a different rental company will have to suffice.

I rate my experience as 1 star because there is no option to go lower. I was picked up from the airport by their shuttle, and when I got to the office, there was a line out the door, and only 2 agents working. It took an average of 10-15 minutes for an agent to complete a single transaction. At one point, one of the agents just left. The other agent was just as surprised as the customers were.
I stood in line for 2.5 hours with many angry customers, who all said that they would never deal with this company again. True, they may be cheaper than some of the other well known companies, but believe me it is not worth it. When you finally reach the agents, they are like pushy used car salesmen pressuring you to purchase insurance, and trying to convince you that even though you have your own insurance, you need to buy theirs anyway. If it were possible to post zero stars, I would. This was the absolute worst car rental experience ever. Without exception. I rented from this company (a rental I paid for in advance) solely because the price was reasonable and my intent was just to have a car for a day trip around Vegas. But I will never attempt to rent from this company again no matter the cost (which, by the way, includes a $200 hold on your card that they don't tell you about until the time of rental). After waiting for approximately 30 minutes in line (even though there was only 1 person in front of me), I had the displeasure of meeting the most discourteous, unprofessional, rude counter agent I've ever dealt with in any scenario. When I told her that I did not appreciate her attitude, another agent named "Damien" came over and I anticipated that the process would then be improved. I was absolutely wrong as it just got worse.
"Damien" claimed that he was the "lead counter agent" and immediately adopted an entirely confrontational tenor while completely ignoring anything I said. Finally, when I had had enough and told him that I didn't need directions to the parking garage, he simply said "I'm not renting you a car today. You're done. Leave." He refused to bring his manager down (he alternately that he was the manager and that there wasn't one) and then threatened to "call security" if I didn't leave his counter. Calls to the 800 number resulted in being told that no supervisor was available but that I would be "assigned a complaint number." I do not anticipate any forthcoming resolutions. I went across the hall and rented a car from Hertz for the same price and in less than 5 minutes. This was far and away the worse experience I've ever had with any company and I cannot stress enough that they should be avoided at all costs.

Just recently rented a van with Advantage Rent a Car. On the way out of the parking lot, the attendant inspected the car but never asked me step out of the car to do my own inspection. The lot attendants inspected the car but didn't pay any attention to the windshield. I can tell that he was a fairly new employee in training as there was another guy there telling him what to do. After leaving the lot, I noticed that there is a small, pin size rock chip on the lower part of the windshield on the driver's side. At that time, I didn't think much of it thinking that it is probably fixed previously. Also, the van was not properly cleaned and detailed when I picked it up. I was cool with that thinking that it will get dirty anyway with the road trip.
Anyhow, when I returned the van they now blame me for the rock chip and they said that I am responsible for the damage. No matter what I said, all they say is that I signed it off and I am responsible for the rock chip. I told them that I was never asked to do my own inspection and they didn't care. I even went to talk to the manager at the counter and he basically said the same thing and that there is nothing he can do. I couldn't believe how unreasonable this company is. I feel like they should have instructed me to inspect the vehicle myself before leaving the lot and also the lot attendant could have done a better job with his inspection. Instead, they basically said that "you are out of luck because you signed it off."
Before returning the vehicle, I was fairly happy with the van and services. But with them blaming me for the rock chip and being so unreasonable I will never ever rent with them again and will tell everyone how risky it will be to rent with them. It's not worth the headache. It's rather silly to lose my and other's future business just for a $20 rock chip. I used my Mastercard for this rental. So, the damages will be covered. What really upset me is how unreasonable this company is when dealing with situation like this.

Not when you leave on a tire that already has a huge hole in it that was patched. Their negligence put my life in danger for the 3 hours that I drove through the night. Ivan **, the manager, accused me of doing something to the tire and said it was my responsibility. We'll see about that, Mr. **!

Went to Denver Airport Advantage rental place. The lines were very long. Took 1 1/2 hour to get a car. When we booked they said standard car were told $325 then at the counter we were told that it would cost $750 as standard car has only 4 cylinders and would not go up the mountain so now we have to have a bigger car. After much negotiations they gave us for $525. This is a typical bait and switch. Never will we rent from them again. Very angry.

When we incurred toll fees, we contacted Advantage to find out how to pay them. The representative looked up our paperwork including rental location (Southern California) and very clearly informed us we should NOT pay directly to the state but that Advantage would charge the toll fee to our credit card when that toll fee was reported to Advantage. It turns out in Southern California they do not offer this service. As a result we were fined by the toll authorities and by Advantage! To verify what Advantage tells customers, I called twice today and both times was told the same false information for a total of four agents telling us incorrectly. This was no accident. We are challenging Advantage's fine and will report this incident to the BBB. Their lower rates are costing us a lot of money and time. Go with another company.

It's a shame that the almighty dollar wins again. People beware... Never again.

We rented vehicle with tire that was unsafe to drive on and refused reimbursement for a new tire that I was forced to purchase when the original blew. Rented vehicle from Phoenix Airport location on 8/14/15. We had the vehicle for 8 days. On day 4, we had a tire failure and were forced to replace a tire. The receipt from a nationally recognized tire shop (OTR) states that the tire was replaced because it had bubbles in the tread and less than 2/32" of tread left. Upon return of the vehicle, we presented the receipt for the new tire ($171.11) and were told that because we declined the roadside insurance, we were liable for the tire.
I understand this policy applies to tire repairs that result from issues such as nails, etc. However, this policy should not apply to poor maintenance of the vehicle. This is the equivalent of the engine blowing up because Advantage decided not to change the oil and telling the renter they are at fault. The tires were worn out upon receipt of the vehicle and we were billed with the replacement. I stated this in the feedback form I received via email on ~8/24 and requested a response from the business but received none.

When comparing prices theirs came up the least expensive. When adding another 100 dollars it wasn't the cheapest and I could have gotten a better deal elsewhere. NO TO ADVANTAGE if you are going anywhere there's mountain.

They instead charged me OVER THREE TIMES the amount ($179) for bringing the car back 5 hours passed the deadline. The charge has been disputed and escalated and won't know what they will do at this point. Will never rent from Advantage again.

I called and filed a complaint with customer service after my experience renting a car at Advantage. Over a week later, the company has not responded, and I am told I have to continue to wait for head office to come to a resolution on my case. This was my experience: I had many issues from the outset. Firstly, I arrived at around 8:30 AM to rent a car, and waited in line until about 9:30 AM before I saw the agent to rent the car. I then waited three hours before the car was ready for me to take off the lot. The rental time indicated that I rented the car at 9:30am, but in fact I didn't get keys until noon, losing almost half a day in travel.
Secondly, when I made the reservation with the agent, I asked to rent the car from Friday-Sunday, and made sure with the associate at the desk that it was fine to return my car by 6PM on the Sunday for the rate that I was quoted, and she assured me it was ok to do so. When I returned the car before 6PM on the Sunday I was charged for an extra day, and on top of that all kinds of additional fees and taxes that were not mentioned when I booked the car had been added on. The total charged was about $200 over what I was quoted for a two day trip.
On top of all of this, when I tried to explain to the agent at the desk upon returning the car, she refused to do anything and told me I had to call customer service. When I called customer service, I was told she could not do anything besides file the complaint and that I would have to wait up to 48 hours to hear back from the corporate head office with a "ruling" on my case. After the 48 hours passed, I called and no one at the customer service number was interested in doing anything, I was told to continue to wait. A week later, nothing. Called customer service again, got the same despondent attitude and told there has been no resolution. What should my next steps be?

The people that you call for customer service is horrible and I haven't got to talk to anyone higher than customer service yet because they won't even return my call. So poor poor poor. Should have kept my deposit. They tried to say that I smoke in the car. When I left company they didn't inspect my rental. Lazy because I didn't have the paper in the car to check off for final inspection.
So when I returned the car they said it smelt like smoke and they are keeping my deposit. The car was sticky, not clean arms, no one smoke in the car. There were items left in trunk. When I went to get my belongings there was many items missing. So this co are thieves who didn't return my deposit nor credit my acct for the extra day the car wasn't used plus stole items! I rented with Advantage because they were by far the best deal, but I went in knowing there was a high risk of issues. I had my fair share of problems, but I'm OK with how it turned out. I prepaid on the website, getting a free car upgrade by making a profile. I went to the Casino Advantage Desk I was renting from - the person never showed up for work that day and she's the only employee. The casino offered a free shuttle to another casino which has an Advantage Desk. Eventually I got there and talked to the person. She was what you expect/hope for in an employee so it went well. She gave me another "upgrade" level on the car, and told me she couldn't give me a discount, but circumstances actually made the rate cheaper for me by about $23.
The car was good, no surprises. I thoroughly inspected it with her and noted the very, very minor scratches. No problems on my two week rental. Returned to airport location (Vegas), very smooth (note, the airport car rentals are not actually at the airport, and that goes for all Vegas airport car rental companies). Returning home (Canada) I logged into my banking. I realized I was charged for my rental 3 times, and refunded once. I gave it another week to see if it would balance itself out, and it didn't.
I called the Advantage line, and the guy who responded was pretty useless, telling me I can call the casino employee, or just have my credit card company call Advantage... I was almost ready to do that. I called the Casino Advantage Desk, and got the same person I rented from. She was very sympathetic and said she would make some calls. Within a few hours someone (high up?) called me, and we reviewed charges, and she issued a refund. I was still out $60 CAD because of the exchange going back and forth unnecessarily, and Advantage wasn't responding to my requests for that back. A call to my credit card company made that disappear too. In the end, they were a hassle, but I got the car for a good price, and got the money they took from me back. I would probably use them again if the price difference was enough... but keep your eyes open.

This was a deposit and the deposit would be refunded to me in 21 days if it was a debit card or 5-7 days if it was a credit card. My "deposit" or "hold" shouldn't have to be refunded if it was just hold. This should have been in a pending hold status not pending charge status to clear my account. My two friends and I rented a vehicle from this place and it just about ruined our vacation. I would not advise anyone rent from them ever. There's a lot of other rental car companies on the island, just about any other one, than this place. We were in Waikiki on vacation and wanted to rent a car to explore the island. We were rented a Mazda minivan which broke down not once, but twice within less than 24 hours. We rented the car on July 26, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. from the Ala Moana location.
After driving a short distance, around 3:00 we went to restart the vehicle it would not start. Being from California, we were not familiar with the area or our surroundings. Luckily, a stranger offered to jump it for us. We called Advantage soon after and they said there was nothing they could do because we did not purchase the roadside I assistance. I informed the representative we were not offered roadside assistance at the time of rental and she had nothing further to say. Soon after, around 7:00 p.m. the battery died again. We, again, called Advantage and they told us to take the car back to the Ala Moana location to exchange it. I asked how they expected us to get the car with its dead battery to the Ala Moana location and, again, the representative said there was nothing they could do. And, again, we requested the assistance of a stranger to jump it for us.
We returned the vehicle on July 27, 2015 at 12:01 p.m. and after almost two hours of waiting around for a supervisor to address the issue and provide us with a refund, the phantom supervisor never showed up. Since we returned the call we've made over nine calls to the company without resolve. They obviously do not care about customer service or renting cars in working condition. There's plenty other rental companies on the island, so do your best to avoid this one. Book ahead with another rental company and you should be fine.

Worst customer service in a retail environment ever. The clerk lied to me about my car "not being ready as it was being washed" and said I could drive a different, better car for more money daily. When I declined I was told I was in luck and brought my car which was filthy and had bird poop baked on the windshield. I had to retrieve my car myself. The clerk had scratched incoherent, illegible directions from this idiotic Advantage rental place -- 20 minutes from the airport to begin with -- to the highway. Once inside and on our way, my kids discovered the back seat was loaded with ants. Unfortunately we were too far from an Advantage store to return and so we had to repeatedly vacuum the car.
Upon returning the car and sharing this information, the clerk's response was, "I suggest you put meat tenderizer on the bites, it really works!" And pulled up her pant leg to show off her bloody wounds. My aghast face and open-mouthed shock at her response earned me all of $10 off and no apologies. As if that weren't enough, the insane driver who rode us the inordinate distance to the airport told bizarrely inappropriate jokes to my kids, and when he ran out of jokes, proceeded to GOOGLE for new ones while driving sixty miles an hour on the highway. To boot, after finding his new asinine jokes, he put his phone down and gestured -- with both hands off the wheel. We rocketed out of that deathtrap as soon as we hit the departures area. All in all, a horrid experience that has soured me to Advantage forever.

One customer complained to the desk that he had been waiting 1 1/2 hrs for a car. A woman, probably the manager, told him, and I quote, "If you don't like it, go somewhere else."
That's when I left to try someone else. Unfortunately, no luck. So I took a cab. Called later -- no answer. Left a message with phone # and itinerary #. No call back. I hope this isn't indicative of how you do business but having 25 people or so waiting at least 1 1/2 hrs to get a car or even be processed is beyond poor customer service. And for the woman to say what she did was totally ridiculous. People were waiting in 85 degree heat for hours for a car that they had reserved. This situation is beyond an excuse. Where I am in Orlando FL they went from letter I to letter M then back to G, and we were letter Q so now everyone is confused. Also we prepaid and pre rented and everything so all we were hoping to do was walk in and give them our proof of purchase and go but we ended up waiting about an hour and a half just for us to get called. This is the worst car rental place I have ever had the misfortune of using.

I am writing with extreme disappointment in Advantage Car Rental service. I booked my reservation online with a quoted amount of $245.00 and when I picked up my vehicle I was informed that my total was $448.00 including my fuel charge, etc. When I got my invoice my total came to over $600.00. I was not aware that there was an ADDITIONAL $200 fee. I would not have agreed to this charge had it been explained to me at the counter the day I picked up the rental. I called your customer service line and reached Ed, only to be yelled at and told "yep that's the charge." I will not be renting from Advantage ever again and will be notifying everyone to avoid your service as well. I will also be writing a review online so others can be warned of these mysterious extra charges and horrible customer service.

I rented a car in San Antonio, Texas and it was a nightmare. Let's not talk about customer service. OMG they should do better, and they are out there to charge you like never before. I will never go back again to this company.

I reserved a car online through Rentalcars.com with Advantage Rent-a-car. The Summary of charges says weekly rate $92.74 Taxes & Fees 38.61 Total $131.35. It says add Collision Damage Coverage for $11.00 per day. When I picked up the car I told the counter person that I did not want the Loss Damage Coverage because my Car Insurance & Credit Card provide rental car coverage. When I turned in the car after 6 days, only 137 miles driven and a full tank of gas, my card was charged $284.07. More than twice what I thought I was paying. I called customer service and they told me that they did include the Loss Damage Coverage and that when I signed the paperwork I agreed.
I explained that I clearly told them I did not want the coverage so I assumed that the pages and pages of paperwork they had me sign was correct. It is an easy scam to include charges since they never tell you the total until they charge your card. I have learned to look at the reviews and read all the complaints and take warning in the future. I have never had this happen with any other rental car companies.

I came into Atlanta for a three hour event. Due to my flight being delayed, I was a little later arriving in Atlanta than I intended. To my relief there was only one other person in line at the Advantage Rent-A-Car desk, and two employees working. I was standing in line for 34 minutes (I happened to check my watch a lot during that time). The desk agents were talking about random things with the people at their counter, who were obviously not in as big of a rush as I was. When I finally got up to the counter I gave the girl my name and she clicked away. After a couple of minutes she told me that they were having "connecting issues" and "tag issues". She told me that all the cars were gone, including the one I reserved. She then called several people, most didn't answer and the ones that did told her that it was their day off and they weren't going to deal with it.
She finally got a manager on the phone and he said she can give me a SUV for only an extra $16.99/day. I told her I didn't want an SUV and I wanted what I paid for. She said, quite bluntly, that I can either pay the extra charge and get an SUV or go to a different rental agency (and lose the money I had already given for the car I reserved). I will NEVER use them again and I strongly suggest using another company. I can't believe they are still in business.

I rented a car from Advantage in Orlando FL, declined coverage for insurance at least 4 times while talking to an agent. She told me to sign to decline... When in fact I had been accepting. Costs me another $160 which I declined. Mary the manager and staff told me "sorry can't help you". You will need to reply to the survey and see if they will do anything! Never rent from there, awful.

I would like to register a complaint about Advantage Rent a Car. I rented a compact car with a one car class upgrade (intermediate), which should have been a Kia Forte or similar. Well when I got to the office at Sky Harbor International in Phoenix, the agent tries to sell me a lot of things that I didn't want or need. I declined the offers, which included, a car similar to what I drive, a tank full of gas at a "special price" ($2.63), and extra protection coverage. She was relentless in trying to get me to purchase additional things that I DID NOT WANT. Then she tried to put me in a compact car and I had to remind her I had already paid AND was entitled to a one car class upgrade. She again tried to sell me a Mitsubishi Outlander or a Toyota Camry (at a higher cost), but I declined. She then said all she had to offer me in that class grade was a Mazda 5, which is really a "small" minivan. I said that would be fine and go to retrieve the car.
The car is dirty inside and out (scratches, dents, bugs all over the grill, hood, front window, and seats soiled). When I complain about the condition of the car they try to tell me they had a sand storm. Well they may have had a sand storm, but that car was dirty from driving it on the interstate and hitting BUGS. I asked for a clean car. So then they give me the same make and model, and the condition was the same as the first (scratches all over the car, dirty with bugs on the grill, hood, and front window, smudges all over ALL the windows). Now it is 10:30 PM and I still have to drive to Prescott, AZ. I complain again, and they tell me (with all kinds of clean, nice cars all over the lot, that the only car they could give me is a Hyundai Elantra (a class down) or I could wait while they send the car to the car wash. SERIOUSLY! I made this reservation 3 weeks ago and they didn't have a clean car ready.
Here's what I believe the deal to be, I didn't "buy" the sales pitch by the agent so that office was determined to give me the worst piece of junk for a rental car. I am very upset with the service (or lack of) that I received from this company. In retrospect, I wish I would have walked away from the car rental counter. They don't deliver what you advertise. And now, I am stuck driving around a dirty car for the next 4 days. In addition, when I filled out the condition form, all the scratches I marked on the original sheet DID NOT show up on my copy. If they don't want to rent clean cheap cars they shouldn't put the offer out there. I don't appreciate a "bait and switch" tactic when I rent a car.

Had the same problem as others have mention. IF you live near 65miles from the rental place, you need to have your own car insurance (apparently your credit card car rental insurance is not enough) and they do not offer their own rental car insurance. Now here's where common sense should kick in. If I lived 65miles from the car rental location and had CAR INSURANCE; that would imply I have a car so why WOULD I NEED TO RENT ONE. Completely wasted my time and almost messed up my plans until I seen Budget's Car Rental a few blocks away and they was really helpful. Staying away from this company and going to file a complaint with the BBB. They still haven't refunded my money which that lazy fat employee said she was going to do. Employee was lazy and was not helpful whatsoever.

I was misinformed by the clerk at the desk, Lissette. She quoted me a price of $18 for 2 days of coverage on insurance. The actual cost was $22.99 for each day. The managers Sean told me it was my fault because I didn't catch that on the receipt but I would not have agreed to that price if she hadn't quoted me the wrong amount. I wasn't going to get the insurance anyways but the price was ok originally. I specifically asked her if that was $18 for two days and then it would come out to 9 dollars a day. She said yes so I agreed.. The total cost of the car rental itself with taxes was 35. The insurance alone was 44 dollars more than the rental price of the car. I would not come to Advantage again with the customer service that I received.

Made a car rental with them. Place was running late due to weather. Got to the airport. Called the rental place. Told them we were getting off the plane and we needed to be picked up. And the lady on the phone said "well we close at 12:30." And I tried to explain and she said "you would have to be here by 12:30." Well there was no shuttle to pick us up to take us to their location and we ended up at the airport with no rental and had nowhere to go due to all of this. We were stuck. Not a happy customer. They said "we open in the morning." That was a lot of help.

Do yourself a huge favor and don't even think about this bad bad company. They rude. My vacation in Hawaii-after 14 hours of flight. They said that they don't have my car. I had reservation and payment confirmation and everything that was needed. When I started to ask for answers one of the representatives a (big) guy in the front desk started to curse and shout on me. I'm an old person and in the place I'm coming from you have to respect old people. When I asked him for his name he cover his name tag and get crazy, started to shout on me while he wasn't part of the dialog between me and the other representative.
I'm sure that if I was younger in 20 years this guy would bit me and he was close to do so anyway. Eventually I went to airport police and I understood that this is not the first time that problems happen with this company and her staff. This is mafia company! Especially Honolulu airport branch. My bad experience with advantage will take place at court. I sue them and I suggest everyone to do so. This is not legit company and they shouldn't operate no more. 6.19.2015 Even the one "star" they don't worth.

Okc branch owner ** thinks that women are nothing. He was rude and his manager ** laughed in my ear when he told me that my call back note was put under a lot of papers in the office and that's the reason he didn't return my call. I was rented a minivan that had a crack in the windshield from bottom to top. Two women with five children had to go two hours out of our way through the worst neighborhood to exchange the vehicle out when lights kept coming on the dash of the vehicle. I was told by second location we should not have been rented that vehicle in the first place due to the cracked windshield, that it was a safety hazard. I asked for half off my rental for all the inconvenience and was told I could have one day off and a voucher for two days. For that just give me three days, it's the same thing. Cannot get anyone at corporate office. Such a scam, I would never rent from Advantage ever again..

We left our baby's (20 month old) prescription glasses in the car and notice it as soon as we walked away. In less than 1hr the car was rented to another customer. We waited 10 days while we called everyday - begged and remind each person in the other line to leave a note to remove the glasses before they rent the car again. Each employee insure us they will do so.
After 10 days calling non-stop the car was rented out again without checking my baby's glasses. They did not care about the inconvenience our little one was put through even though we were very detailed about his medical conditions. A very simple and kind act an human being can commit to give a baby a sight was not important enough for the people who represent this company. We went ahead and ordered new pairs of glasses and had to wait 2 weeks again with our baby walking around with blurry vision. Should have never trusted them with something so important. They only offer a lil bit of money they get but never human enough to do such a kind job.

I requested refund of rental charges and they are still processing it after more than two weeks. No response so far. Also, I was charged for tolls I never went through, $32.45. This is also still being investigated.
