Do not rent your car from here! We waited 30 minutes for the pick-up shuttle at the airport. This was at 9:30 pm in February temperatures were 10 degrees. The other rental car companies had multiple buses running. After we got picked up we were told that there was a "Traction Law" in effect. The customer service agent gave us a 4-wheel drive car. Told is it would be no additional cost for 4 days. The first car we were given (Rav-4) had the passenger door handle break off when we tried opening the door. As such, were then given a second car, which ran out of wiper fluid on the drive up into the mountains at 10:30 at night while it was snowing. We were driving Interstate 70W. The mud that was kicked up from the road onto the windshield made it near impossible to see and the wiper fluid ran out. There were no gas stations on Loveland Pass where we could get replacement fluids. Very dangerous drive without wiper fluids.
We returned the car after 4 days and were charged an additional $400 (double the price we booked online) for the car that was supposed to be provided due to the Traction Law. Customer Service did not indicate there would be a charge of this amount and when we disputed the charge it was claimed that we did not read the contract. Denver management has refused to take my calls to discuss my frustration and refused to refund the $400. I won't use this rental car location again and neither should you.

I'm a client of yours, a lawyer in Brazil, and I'm writing this message, at least for an answer. I come in contact because although I am a customer of you I had a serious disgust in my recent experience with Advantage. On my trip this month to the United States, I made two locations. One of a Chevrolet CAMARO for 7 days, and one of a KIA SOUL. What impressed me was that the location of the Chevrolet CAMARO. I delivered the car more than 2 hours ahead of schedule, and yet the amount provided in my contract was charged in the same way as the forecast.
in communities where I can report this. In a high-value location like CAMARO, I did not have any discount on my delivery before the deadline. But did I deliver the Kia Soul 1:30 late and BEND my payment? 100% rate? This is absurd! I would love to hear from you. Wait. Thank you so much.

I clicked on a rental for a Jeep Liberty (or similar vehicle). Jeep Liberties are 4 wheel drive vehicles. This rental was at the Denver airport in the middle of winter. When my wife arrived at the rental location, they told her a similar vehicle was not 4 wheel drive. They upcharged her more than double for a Toyota Highlander. I didn't want her driving in the snow through the mountains without 4WD. When I called customer service, they told me I would have to contact the Denver location. THEN THEY TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HAVE THE NUMBER FOR THE DENVER LOCATION and would have to have them call me back. Unbelievable!

Horrible. Scam, dishonest people working for Advantage car rental. My daughter booked a car 12 days in advance for me. When I called to verify the time they stated she has to be there in order for me to pick up the car. The agent advised me to cancel the reservation. When I attempted to cancel they inform that I will not get a refund. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME.

A company that fully takes advantage of your tiredness after a long trip. We booked the car weeks in advance just to arrive at the airport and be told that there are no cars available and they will have one for us in about 2 hours. We left the airport in a taxi. Barely made it on the freeway just to be told that they now have a car for us. We returned and started the paperwork. We were asked whether we needed insurance, I declined because we have cover through our travel insurance at which they told us that we still needed to purchase a compulsory insurance in Florida for approx $200 (we've rented after from reputable companies... and none have charged us for the 'compulsory insurance').
We were also told that they will need a deposit from the CC for approx $250 and that would be returned after the rental. We've returned to Australia and still waiting on that money. When we contacted them we were told that it could take up to 30 days for reimbursement. We were upgraded to an SUV at no cost (according to the agent, but in saying that is the same agent that charged us the compulsory insurance) so who knows what else will come out of our CC. I wish there was minus stars to be able to rate this company. If you are reading this review and think of renting from Advantage, please take the money that they are asking you for the car rental, burn it and then go to another company because you will be better off.

Please, do not fall for the low prices neither for the "bono" that they offer to you! Before the rental everything is great, awesome, wonderful! BUT, after you return the car you get charge for tax that you didn't know about in your credit card! Easy way to get your money from you! OH! The best part is that they charge you for a "violation" that supposedly you committed but they don't send any copy of it. You can't really know if you actually committed a violation but you pay for it anyway! Great, isn't it!? The car was good though.. lol. NEVER AGAIN!

When I picked up a rental car at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix on February 4, I was asked if I wanted to buy extra car insurance, I said no as I already carry car insurance. Ken then put the extra car insurance on the contract anyway, even though I had declined it. I didn't read all the fine print on the contract and went ahead and signed it. Although I called Advantage to dispute the extra charge they insisted I had agreed to pay $200.00. I was deliberately misled and tricked into a fraudulent agreement. I will never rent from this company again, and I would discourage anyone else from doing so as well.

Advantage was the cheapest car rental company on multiple websites but in actuality it was much more expensive than I expected. I must have paid about $100 a day for an economy car rental for 4 days. Part of the reason was that I reluctantly agreed to purchase the car insurance that they almost forced me to buy. I refused the agent 4 times, but I gave up then and said 'OK'. I should have even considered this company.

They're the worse. I booked a car online, when I arrived to pick it up, they didn't have what I paid for, so I had to take an upgrade at a higher cost. Then two weeks later they charged $80 to my credit card, and can't give me an explanation or evidence of any violations. Don't ever let them get your card info.

I wish I could rate this place 0 stars. I also wish I had read the reviews first, and not just chosen the best rate. I booked the reservation for this car in September 2017. After journeying from Denver on 1/4/2018, I got in line at the rental counter. There were 3 agents and 5 or 6 customers in front of me. After a bit of a wait, 4 more agents appeared and started helping. Despite this, it still took 30 minutes to reach the counter. Once I did reach the counter, the check-out process started moving quickly, but came to a screeching halt when our agent (or the one next to us) couldn't seem to get ahold of "base" or a manager on the phone. Both myself and the party next to me had reservations for minivans, and the agents could not seem to "find" one.
After close to 30 frustrating minutes of absolutely nothing happening, the agent helping me grabbed her purse and walked off - presumably at the end of her shift - without so much as a word to me about what was happening. She was replaced by a man who seemed to need a bit to get his bearings. We were finally sent out to the garage with a reservation for a Hyundai Elantra, with the promise that it was a placeholder, and that the kiosk in the garage would sort us out. Once we got to the garage, I realized that the lady in the kiosk had no idea what was going on. She couldn't figure out why we had a sedan on our reservation, when we originally requested a minivan.
She also could not get ahold of "base" or a manager to find us a minivan. We spent at least another 30 frustrating minutes outside waiting for SOMEONE to figure out what was going on. Mind you, our van was sitting five parking spaces down from the kiosk the entire time we were out there. Also, it was unusually cold in Orlando that week, and was in the mid-30 degrees while we waited outside in the garage, with two tired toddlers. After this hour-and-a-half ordeal, to rent a car I booked FOUR MONTHS in advance, I didn't think I could be more displeased with Advantage.
All in all, the van was exactly what we wanted and needed. It performed great, and we are actually considering purchasing one. But wait, it gets better. On the drive from Orlando to Gainesville, our initial destination, several of the toll booths told me that I didn't need to pay as the toll pass I had explicitly stated I DID NOT WANT was active, and refused payment. Having spend 90 minutes after a day of travel and our late evening arrival, I just kept driving. This was a mistake. Two weeks after returning from the trip, I was billed $60 by Advantage for tolls.
This is far more than any tolls I incurred on the entire trip, especially more than Advantage would have received through their faulty equipment. After calling a customer service agent, I was told I should have contacted them at the time (on the roadside, with two screaming toddlers, tired and anxious to get to a hotel), and that there was nothing they could do for me. Never again will I rent from Advantage, and I will urge everyone I know to do the same. That includes you, stranger from the internet.

On a business travel to San Antonio, TX I made a car rental reservation through Hotwire from January 15, 2018 to January 18. Once I arrived to the car rental Hotwire assigned for me Advantage Rent A Car they didn’t have the car for which I made the reservation for. The counter representative apologized and informed me that due to the unavailability of the vehicle on my reservation I can just choose another one from the lot; he never mentioned any upgrade or extra charge at all or appointed me to any specific car.
I used the car for the length of my trip and returned the vehicle on Thursday January 18th, once I went with the representative to inspect the car and sign the vehicle return, I noticed there has been a total of $156.22 amount on the paper I signed, which I thought was my receipt from the Hotwire reservation since they never mentioned they charged me an additional per night rate due to the “upgrade” they themselves gave me due to the unavailability of the car on my original reservation…
Once I get to the hotel to file my trip expenses. I noticed I have being charged twice for a rental car, an additional amount of $156.22 on top of the $118.32 amount I paid for my online reservation through Hotwire for a total of $274.54. When I called Advantage Rent A Car to do the claim I asked for Roger the agent that I deal with because I was under the impression that it was a mistake that he would be able to fix it without getting him in trouble. For my surprise they give me the go around and couldn’t transfer me to him or even tell me if he work at that location so I ask to speak to a manager. They took my information and told me that “Sean” was going to call me back in 20 min.
Of course no one called me so I called again and again until I was able to speak with him. I explain everything to him; he apologized for the inconvenient and promised me to call me back. 24hrs later I was still waiting for his call so I decide to call back again, and he told me he was going to verify with the agent and with the main office and call me back. Another day passes so I decide to call them again and verify the status of my refund. This time he wasn’t friendly anymore, he told me they charged me due to the “upgrade” on the vehicle that I requested. I repeatedly explained that their agent on site told me that due to the unavailability of the vehicle on my reservation they’ll give me another vehicle from the lot.
I told him I was never told about the additional charges and so I never approved the charge. He keeps repeating on a anger tone that I signed for it so I was “outta luck”! I explained again that I signed a document showing that I took a car from the lot (My rental agreement) but not approving the upgrade that I wasn’t told and that my company wouldn’t never approved it either since is not a company policy to pay for upgrades on car rentals. At this time he told me “do what you need to do” and hang up the phone.

On October 18, 2017 I rented a van with Advantage Rent A Car via Priceline. I paid $304.86 on my Discover Card at that time. When I picked up a Toyota Sienna van on Nov. 15th in Denver Colorado. I was told they needed my Discover for a deposit that would be returned to me upon return of the van. The agent asked me if I wanted to upgrade to a YUKON and I declined. After I get home from my trip, no refund is ever credited to my Discover bill. I see they have charged me $40/day for UPGRADE, an additional $301.99. I contacted Priceline for help and they say it's because of the upgrade and there's nothing further they can do.
Advantage claims the original rental was for a Kia Sedona and the Toyota was an upgrade. But at no time did the Customer Service bother to mention that. We called twice to complain, 1 time being offered a 50% refund. We refused and asked to speak to corporate. We were told Denver Corporate would contact us. They never did. Tonight we called for the 3rd time, we were told the case has been closed by Denver because the contract was signed. Don't do business with them. Be very cautious in using PRICELINE as well because they choose to do business with this deceitful company.

When I called back, they said the cell phone was not found and they closed the ticket. Still, no one has called or informed. I submitted a complaint and ask for a supervisor to contact me, but after a week, no one has called. Today, when I followed up, they said they were sorry for my inconvenience. Customer Service agents appear to have no idea of the company's policies regarding pre-paid rentals, such as cancelling (and the fee), changing the dates (permitted or not?), etc. When you ask to speak to a supervisor to get clarity, the customer service agent will not let you do so. I understand that most customer service has been sent offshore, but it would make a difference to have agents who can speak the language clearly and understand it clearly. Do NOT use this company. Not worth the few dollars in savings.

I was out of town in Boston, Mass on business and rented a car there for a couple days. The counter help and parking lot help was horrible, with the staff very uneducated and seemingly clueless about their own procedures. The toll system in Boston basically requires people (residents) to buy a toll pass card monthly. For visitors/out of towners such as myself, the rental car agencies basically bill you later for the tolls.
Advantage waited over 6 months to bill me for the tolls with no sort of paperwork or anything sent me, they just billed my card for $142. After I complained to my credit card company, I got a micro sized (barely readable even with a mag glass) document that showed the tolls were $17!!! They added nearly 10 times the amount of the tolls in customer service charges! The original car rental itself ($145.27) was about the same size as their follow up toll bill! What's more, they took so long to do the follow up billing that by that time I had changed jobs and was no longer able to bill my business for my additional travel expenses. These people are frauds, con artists and cheats with atrocious service before and after the sale... NEVER use them, EVER.

When I had an incident in Myrtle Beach SC I was told because I declined roadside assistance I was responsible for having the car towed to Charlotte airport NC (the nearest Advantage rental place) 180 miles at my own expense. First of all, the service reps could barely speak English. Understanding them was difficult. The bill came to more than double the price of my initial confirmation. The airport service person at Orlando Airport pushing my wheelchair was given incorrect information on where to get the car in the parking garage. My traveling companions, both elderly also, were unable to walk more, so I told them I would go up the other two levels and get the car and pick them up.
I have no sense of direction so when I was told that I would have to make several different turns etc to get back to where my friends were, also in the middle of the parking lot, I asked the attendant to drive me to them, he refused. Sure enough I was lost for over an hour and a half in the Orlando area parking lot and airport until an employee of Avis car rental was kind enough to get in his car and have me follow him until we found my friends. Advantage was misleading, rude, and completely horrible to rent from. Never again.

Rented from Miami Intl. Airport to drive to Fort Myers, FL. The salesperson said we NEEDED the E-Z PASS to travel on highways because the toll roads didn't accept cash. The cost was $9.99 per day. I questioned the need and the cost. She said, if we went through the tolls we would be charged $25.00 fees! Turns out, those fees are if you get a moving violation ticket, parking ticket or a citation. Hmmm, she didn't mention those things. She made it sound like it was our only option to travel.
Well, we went through 1, I repeat, ONE toll on our way to Ft. Myers (through Alligator Alley) the toll amount was $3.25. And cars were lined up to go through the tolls to pay and get their change if they didn't have the exact change. This means that on our trip back, we will pass the toll once again for $3.25. Total $6.50 instead of almost $70.00 that she duped us for. Then, she said we would save money by having them fill the tank at $2.60 per gallon because their cost was less expensive. The highest gas price I saw the entire week was $2.43! Will never rent from Advantage again because they are dishonest! This increased our car rental cost by more than $140.00. So, unless you are driving from one end of the state to another and back again, the E-Z PASS option is definitely not worth it!

We reserved a car with Advantage Car Rental, through Expedia, our flight was delayed from Orlando FL for one reason or another, it was to be a direct flight and ended up flying to Phoenix Arizona for fuel with a delay which ended up being 2.5 hrs late. We went to the reservation desk, supplied the attendant with the paperwork, out of nowhere he looks up and say that we are 2.5 hrs late. We told him the reason and he answer was, "Too bad. We have no car for you, we only hold them for 2 company hrs," this was at 11 pm and we asked him, "What are we to do," his answer was he didn't know and yelled to the Payless agent down the counter, "DO YOU HAVE ANY CARS". He could have cared less of the problem, and he said that it's the company policy.
We got a car bottom of the line and twice the amount... Called the company ADVANTAGE at the number supplied and it's out of order/service and finally tracked a number to call that was a direct line, spoke to a agent by the name of Lee who said that it wasn't the right that, "There was a car there for you." She opened a case and said that someone would call in 24 to 48 hrs. Well no one called. So I called them and got a total runaround that if you're late they keep the reservation but give your car away, and there is nothing they can do. The guy was argumentative and more I questioned him the more defensive he got. And said nothing could be done, my case was closed and over. I had booked a car with EZ car through Expedia. The due at pickup cost based on my Expedia reservation was $163.71 for a "special special car" (whatever that is) for 4 days. This price was more in line with what I usually pay for rental cars, nothing fancy. If the price is the as good I usually book direct with Enterprise, however their rates were around $450 total for 4 days. At that I'm thinking about alternative transportation rather than renting a car. Anyway, first of all (in the middle of the afternoon, the sign in the terminal at the EZ car desk tells us to take the shuttle to the Advantage desk, ok, fine no big deal, but when we finally get to the outside office, there's a long line... actually not as long as I saw on a previous review, but still a longer line than I'm accustomed to at rental car counters. BTW this was at the Denver, CO. airport (DEN).
Now when I finally get to the counter, (honestly the guy behind the counter was decent, but now I think it was tactic, engaging in small talk, etc.) Mr. agent finds my reservation and commented that Priceline saved me $200.00, (that's great, I think). So I tell him I'm going to Estes Park, oh he recommends I use an SUV and I'm like ok, still thinking about the "special, special car". So he excuses himself and exits thru a door behind the counter and I'm waiting and... waiting. Finally he comes back and he tells he has this Black Infiniti QX80 and I'm like ok... mind you never once did he say there will be an upcharge.
AND so when he shoves the agreement on the counter with a handwritten X and signature line, I look at the number and am like, no way, the total was $740+. I said I was not expecting to pay this much and so he somewhat sheepishly takes the paper back and says he can do a lesser insurance coverage. So that came out to $617.17. And at this point I'm ready to get out of there and I'm thinking well that's a little better. And so off we go on our 4 day trip. Well, it wasn't till after I returned the car and received the final receipt that I started combing over the agreement.
First of all I prepaid for gas @ 2.59 a gallon, the agent told me that's the best price I'll get, not true, I paid that exact amount for a refill and there were gas prices lower than that around and they charged a concession fee and a state tax totaling 22.36% on top of the quote best gas price!!! Upgrade fee was $120 plus tax, insurance was $139.96 plus tax, EZ Toll $39.96 plus tax... I'm talking a civil suit against these highway robbers!!! And this is coming from a renter who considers himself to be more seasoned... I would much rather have paid Enterprise the $450 and collected points on that!!! I will not rent from these guys again!!!

The fact that this charge appeared 2 months after my trip shows me that this business was banking on me not noticing the charge!

My first bit of advice... run as fast as you can to the next rental car counter. These guys are conmen disguised as a business. Where to begin... When a company bolds their cancellation policy (i.e. no refunds if canceled less than 24 hours before you are scheduled to pick up your car) and puts a ton of very non-traditional rental car related policies in super, super fine print, I recommend running away as fast as you can. I walked away from the counter disgusted and resigned to letting them keep what I had paid. They know it will happen and my sixth sense tells me this is another piece of the business model.
A. Awful, Awful Customer Service. From the moment I arrived, they were rude and dismissive. EZ Rental had signs up telling me to go to the Advantage desk. I schlepped up to the next floor and once I arrived, the customer service I received made me feel as if they were doing me a favor.
B. Proof of Insurance? You must show up with proof of insurance if you are a local customer. I tried pulling it up on my phone and the customer service associate expressed deep frustration. Told me she could do nothing for me. I told her most companies can usually pull up proof of insurance through your driver's license details. She responded, "How do you expect me to do that?" Once again, I advise you to read the ENTIRE terms and conditions. In the regular proof of insurance clause, it says if you are under the age of 21 you need to present proof. There is a separate local renter clause that renders the first proof of insurance clause null and void. Are you still with me?
C. One of the highest credit card holds I've witnessed ($350). Considering the level of disorganization, there is no way I was going to trust them with that amount of a hold. Especially after everything I have read online.
All in all, read the fine, fine print if you plan on renting. But, take my advice. You are much better off receiving quality and hassle-free service from another more reputable car rental company. The customer service representative I spoke to explained it best. Me: "This has been an awful experience. Do you actually support this?" Customer Service Associate: "From a company perspective, I have to say yes. Personally? No. It's not great, but it is a car rental company. I'm so sorry."

After waiting close to 1/2 hour for an Advantage Shuttle to pick us up at LAX... while dozens of other car rental shuttles came and went numerous times, we were finally picked up, taken to the Advantage location and dropped along with our luggage on the street... nope, they could not pull up in front of the building. We could see the enormous amount of people in line inside the building from the road. There were at least 40 or 50 customers waiting in winding lines for the cars. It took my husband 1 hour and 38 minutes to get from the end of the line to the counter and then took additional time with all the paperwork etc.
Finally after fearing we would spend our first day on vacation stuck at Advantage Car Rental, we got a 2017 RAV4 that was beat, dinged up and had absolutely no get up and go. Upon returning the car one week later, we took the Advantage shuttle back to the airport, with the outside temp being a record breaking 100 degrees in October, and NO air conditioning in the shuttle crammed with people and luggage. We will never use Advantage again... ever... and we highly recommend that if you wish to get your trip off to a good start, avoid this company completely. Everything about them stinks!

I booked a car rental through a 3rd party site and a deposit through them. I was told an exact amount I would be responsible for at the counter. When arriving, we were told that we had to purchase their insurance (totally wrong, we did not have to) and they would not give us the car without. I have insurance that covers this already. We were charged aver $2000 dollars in total when it should have come to about $700, not including the $200 deposit I put down. It was 9pm at the airport when this happened and I had an infant with me. I called and called but kept getting transferred to different people. They also made us put a second driver on the account because he was there when picking up the car. He was never and did never drive the cars. This added to the cost. I will never recommend this company and cannot tell you how unprofessional they are.

I rented a car online for three days, October 27, 2017 to October 29, 2017. The rate shown was $88.67 for the three days. At the Newark Airport Advantage office I was told not to fill the tank because their rate for gas is less than elsewhere. The agent repeated “don't fill the tank” three times. I accepted her word that it would be less expensive to have them fill it. I was also offered collision insurance. I declined that because my insurance company covers me in any car. I repeated that I did not want insurance because I thought that the agent, Xiang ** might have had difficulty understanding me. When the receipt was prepared, I again said that it should not include insurance. She seemed to agree.
The distance from Newark airport to my destination in Monroe County is 36.2 miles each way. When I returned the car on October 29 I was charged $35.02 for a full tank of gas even though I returned the car with gas 3/4 tank full. When I objected, the same agent said that the rule is if you use any gas you have to pay for a full tank of gas. When I told her she insisted that I not fill the tank she ignored that. I was also charged $55.98 for insurance. The agent said that I initialed to authorize the charge. She showed me the receipt with a scribbled initial that was not mine. I also saw that a scribbled initial was entered acknowledging that I would not receive credit for unused gas if the car is returned without a full tank of gas. When I said that she had repeatedly told me not to fill the tank, she ignored that.
I demanded to see the supervisor. She said there is nothing to do about the insurance because they already paid it and that their policy is that if you do not return the car with a full tank of gas you will be charged for a full tank. She ignored my protest that I did not agree to the insurance or the gas policy and said that I initialized it. I said I did not and that the initials are not mine. She did not acknowledge that and went back to her office. I recommend that you have a higher level employee confront the agents at Newark Airport and reprimand them if not discharge them. I also demand that the charges of $111.83 over and above the basic rental fee be credited back to my credit card account.

Outside Fort Myers Airport at Advantage Car Rental, I was asked if I wanted the extra coverage for Collision, I said no, didn't need it, had coverage. The woman was really friendly saying she was from where I lived and she was going to give me an upgrade. She chatted with me. I verbally said to her, "my charge is-stating the exact amount", she replied yes but that they take the credit card and put an additional charge on but reverse if all is fine when the car is returned. After confirming my charge, she still put the Collision charge through which was 3/4 of my actual rental charge. I didn't notice it because I had just confirmed verbally what the charges were. I called Advantage, spoke with someone named Ana. Not interested in hearing my complaint, no interest whatsoever.
I then asked for her supervisor, named John, no last name. And he said, “You signed the contract” which I did. I explained everything stating I said no to the coverage and that she confirmed my amount verbally and it's true I didn't look at it. I asked for corporate office number, there is none. There is no way to file a complaint. This company is terrible. They were not interested in resolving this in any way. I never take Collision. I will never use Advantage again. The agent that I dealt with when picking up my vehicle (which I reserved through CarRentals.com) engaged in some serious and rather unscrupulous upselling without explaining what the costs would be until I was presented with the final estimate. When I balked he applied some discounts that brought the charges down to what I thought was a reasonable figure. However, when I returned the car I was charged about $200 over what I was told the cost would be (and what the pre-authorized amount was on the contract). I called the Advantage customer service line to report this and was told I'd receive a call back from the manager of the facility where I rented the car (Denver Int'l Airport), but I never heard from him or her. I will never rent from Advantage again anywhere, anytime, and I encourage all those reading this to avoid them at all costs.

I wish I would have seen these reviews before using this company. I don't care how cheap it was, the charges keep coming months after the rental. I agreed on a certain amount on the rental contract. That amount was charged at the end of my rental. Then, a month later, my credit card is charged TWICE for $56.75 each. I call the company to find out what the additional charges are for and they say it's for toll charges and admin fees. There is no reason for me to be charged this as I paid the tolls at all of the toll booths I went through. They give me the number to the Highway Tolls company saying that there is no way they can remove the charges and that I will have to dispute them with this other company.
I call the Highway Tolls company number that they give me and it's a neverending loop of a message saying there is an extremely high call volume so I have to leave a message. When I choose to do so, it says the voicemail inbox is full, so I cannot leave a message. The loop message says to go online to chat a representative. There is no one "signed in to the chat feature" so that isn't possible. I emailed the company (that says it will respond within 1-2 business days). It never responded. This company is dishonest and should be shut down with so much proof against its practices. It's disturbing that a company like this is allowed to operate. I am now out $113.50 for illegitimate charges when I only owed $98 for the original car rental in the first place. So aggravating!

I have rented a great deal of cars in my life, and none have ever broken down. I rented this car at FLL to go to my grandfather's funeral. I picked up the car on 9/19. The car had a few times that it would have trouble starting during the week and finally, on the morning we were supposed to leave to go to the airport, it would not turn on at all. Everything on the inside of the car, radio and lights, worked so we knew it wasn't the battery. We heard the tell-tale clicking sound that is indicative of a blown starter. I called the 800 number for Advantage and received a generic customer service representative who refused to transfer me to the local advantage dealer and told me that it was my responsibility to have the car towed with my insurance. If they had to tow the car, they were going to charge me roadside assistance.
Rather than deal with them, I had the car towed and hitched a ride to the airport. Two days later, I had a charge on my card for GAS of $61.13 because the car was not driveable to take it to a gas station. I called Advantage to try to work it out with them, they gave me a confirmation number of my complaint and then never called me back. Finally, I disputed the transaction with my credit card company. They never offered me a partial refund for the time I was unable to drive the car or to reimburse my expenses in association with getting the car towed or getting a ride to the airport. My sister and I visited Maui on Sept 13, 2017- Sept 24th. We had chosen Advantage Rent a Car because the price they advertised was considerably lower than their competitors. We waited a long time in a big line with only two employees checking people in. We are in our 60's and 70's and when it was our turn the young man told us that the compact car we had reserved was no longer available and that we had signed something that said "or the manager's special" and that we would be getting a rather old looking minivan. Parking spaces in Hawaii are tiny. He knew we didn't want a minivan so he offered to upgrade us to a VW beetle for an extra $20 a night. My sister beckoned me over and I insisted that he give us something comparable to the compact. Then he said for us he would give us the VW for only an extra $7/ night. I continued to object, saying this is not what we agreed to and that this was unacceptable.
I was not nasty but clearly not happy and holding up the line. I repeated that we were not satisfied and he said "that's okay, that's fine." I got the impression that he was used to people not being real happy. Finally he threw in "or a small SUV" for the 7$ and we jumped on it. It ended up costing almost as much as the Hertz or Alamo would have been and nobody escorted us to the car or checked for scratches, etc. I think that this employee chose people he thought would not know what to do and tried to get more money from us (two older women). Later, when we dug out the agreement my sister had signed that the contract said "manager's special, something comparable to reserved car". I do not consider a minivan equivalent to a compact car or a VW beetle. The small SUV we ended up with ran well but was dusty and scratched.
We took pictures so they would try to charge us later for something we didn't do. A very unpleasant start to what was supposed to be a fun vacation. The employee, (wish I had his name) was not at all concerned that we did not walk out happy. He was borderline rude. We will never, never use this company again. The other name they go by was EZ which is a joke. They should be called out for trying to scam customers. They should call themselves DIS-Advantage.

To start, this whole ordeal I am furious about happened 5 months ago, so please forgive me if the details I am sharing with you are not as fresh and clear in my mind as they could be. Anyways... My story begins when I decided to rent a car at Logan Airport from Advantage because I found a great deal online. I took Uber to pick up my rental car and used the address provided online for Advantage (100 Tomahawk Dr). Long story short, the Uber driver and I did circles around the airport for a half an hour trying to find where I go to check in and fill out the paperwork. When I did find the Advantage counter I was greeted with friendly service even though I was clearly in a hurry.
When signing the contract, I remember making sure I prepaid for gas (I have been burned badly before for returning a car a little below a full tank). Moreover, I remember asking the Advantage employee I had been chatting with what I should do about tolls. When she told me with a smile to worry about them after my trip to CT, I naively assumed that I would have to pay for the tolls/would have the toll charges on my final receipt/bill when I returned the car. When I did return the car, I carefully looked over the bill and found nothing unusual except for some random fees. Overall though, I was satisfied.
Fast forward five months later... I have a charge for $170 in my checking account. I immediately assumed it was fraudulent but my bank did want me to contact Advantage to gather more info so I did. To my surprise, the Advantage customer service rep told me that the charge was for *you guessed it* TOLLS! He said I accrued a $25 fee for every toll I went through. Thinking he would waive the charges after I explained my story (including how it had been five months since I rented), he would not budge an inch. Now I plan on exposing this company because of this horrific experience... This could get ugly. - A very unhappy customer.

When calling customer service, I was advised I signed the contract and was knowledgeable of the cost. I explained that I was at fault for not reading the contract and that I had become complacent as I usually get what is economically feasible. They provided a service I did not need and I ask that they correct the error. Had they explained they were adding the mileage package at the time of purchase, I would have advised them that it was not needed. I was told it was a contract that I signed and I have no recourse. I had multiple phone conversations with the staff including a manager from Advantage and was told by the manager that I signed the contract so the money would not be put back into my account.
There was also a conference call amongst myself, the manager (Advantage) and a representative from my credit card company. The manager from Advantage insisted that I signed the contract and that was that! The manager also stated that I returned the car late so the $109.05 was a late return fee. I am at a loss for words at the level of service received from Advantage Car rentals/Europcar. I had pre-booked my rentals online for both Las Vegas and Washington. The Washington experience is where my nightmare began. My unfortunate experience emanates from the following: the inexperienced consultant behind the counter was either improperly trained or had no life in him. Alternatively it could be that he ran the Airport branch at Washington entirely on his own. Nonetheless it took over an hour before I was served. At that point the queue behind me had backed up considerably.
Once I reached him, I asked him what vehicle I would get and he mentioned a sedan, one of which was a Ford focus. I asked if there wasn't an SUV like a Hyundai Tucson and he said this would be at an additional fee of $25. All this was happening while he clearly had my booking details on his screen. I then presented a copy of my booking which said "Toyota Rav4 or similar" - my thinking is that a Ford focus is far from an SUV. He then said "Oh yes we can do a Hyundai Tucson". I was brought up not to lie but clearly this fellow was not of the same upbringing.
After an hour delay I left and drove to NY where the vehicle was meant to be dropped off. Due to the delay I had no opportunity to refuel. I had taken this option at Las Vegas for around $50 but didn't expect this consultant to delay me by an hour. After handing over the keys with a quarter tank, I soon received an invoice for over $100 as a fuel cost at a rate of $8,99 per gallon which is over 3 times the normal fuel cost. To me this is theft and a complete disregard for customer centricity. Again the consultant nowhere explained that the cost per gallon would be $8,99 should I not refuel. By the way the fuel cost was almost double the actual car rental cost.
I trusted the Europcar brand and have used it for both business and pleasure in my beautiful country South Africa and abroad. Under the Advantage Rent-A-Car emblem I can say that I am hugely disappointed. I would like a fair fuel rate to be charge which would be around the $50 mark. I will also be escalating this matter and using social media where possible to reveal the robbery I have undergone and urging all to reconsider Europcar and Advantage as service providers.

When we checked in at Advantage, the rental agent told me that because we were driving up to Aspen through Independence Pass, the Toyota Camry would not make it as it would overheat and we needed to be upgraded to a larger vehicle. He upgraded me to a Nissan Pathfinder and printed a contract for $1,089.00. I told him that this was insane to be upcharged $733.00. Mind you the only reason I agreed to the larger car was that I was lied to that the Camry or equivalent would not work.
Upon driving through Independence Pass, I saw many small cars including Volkswagen Beetles. When I got to Aspen I was told that I had been blatantly lied to by the Advantage agent. In trying to reach them at least six times, I was put on hold for a very long time, was told they would get back to me and I never heard back. I will never ever deal with them again. They are the sleaziest bunch of liars I have ever dealt with.

7/5/2017. My advice if you rent a car from this company "ADVANTAGE Rent-A-Car" at Nashville Int'l Airport. I approached the Advantage counter to pick up the contract and keys of a car that already paid in advance online. I had the bad luck to met an employee called Shae, "in charge" of taking care of customer rentals. That was exactly what she didn't do.
After she makes me wait for an hour of my time for the rental term start, in a very bad manners, asked for my DL and CC. While I was pulling my credit card of my wallet, she demanded for my Driver ID. In a good tone and without being rude, I said: "let me do one thing at the time please." She insisted, and when I handed the ID, she said that "Im not going to rent you a car." I asked "Why?" She replied "because I just canceled your reservation" and in that very same moment, ripped off the credit card form and printed contract, gave me back my credit card and refused to follow up with the transaction. I was shocked, because I didn't see any red flag in our conversation, we didn't even had a discussion!
Since she let me know that I didn't have any options, I asked for a manager, or, another employee to retrieve the car that I had already paid, then she said "leave the counter or I will call the Airport Police." I asked "Why?" and she replied: "leave the counter or I will call the Airport Police." So, without any word I left and I went online, and I called the Company "Advantage Rent-A-Car" and waited for an hour on the phone to be answer by someone at customer service (they never did answered). Meanwhile, when I was on hold, I managed to book a car with another company (Budget) without any problems!
I lived 21 years in Nashville, rented thousands cars and I never had such amazing experience with any company. From now on, I will make sure, to not rent ever again from "ADVANTAGE Rent-A-Car" in Nashville or any other place in the planet earth! And I will certainly pay attention to don't meet anywhere this poor, untrained, lower class employee with nerves irritation, called SHAE.

Was given a $219 dollar quote (plus $85 dollar charge for GPS for a total of $304 dollars) at the travel agency and when I returned the vehicle, I was charged over $400 dollars which included a charge for their collision waiver insurance that I TOLD the attendant that we did not need. After bringing this to their attention, the manager removed the charges from the rental and returned the $45 dollars to my card. A week later, I see another charge for highway tolls that totaled $14.55 and Advantage billed me a $125 dollar admin fee on top of that. Overall total was $519 dollars from a $304 dollar quote. All of these additional fees were not explained upfront and the attendants were rude with one of them telling me to go back and talk to the travel agent for an explanation on why I was charged over $200 dollars extra. I will never use these guys again.

We were never told that there would be no toll booths. We have never had a good experience with this car co. This was their last chance not matter how low the price.

I am so disappointed in the service I received today from Advantage Rent A Car. To start off, when I arrived at the kiosk the car I had reserved online was not available. I was very confused but the lady at the kiosk (Sandy) seemed very accustomed to this type of thing happening. She made several phone calls and was finally able to get us the car we initially reserved online. Now comes the worst part. This is a family trip so I had wanted a bigger vehicle when considering rentals. I specifically called Advantage Rent A Car to find out the specific policy for the Ford Transit van I was interested in. The agent I spoke to online assured me that no additional insurance coverage was needed and that I could apply my full coverage policy through State Farm, to cover the Ford Transit van.
I had a little back and forth with Sandy at the kiosk because I explained to her just this. I felt very frustrated because I felt like I was being treated like an idiot basically not knowing the policies and procedures to rent this van and on top of that, being told something completely different than what I was initially told. We settled on getting the rental without insurance. I then called customer service and was placed on hold for 14 min by Pablo who when I told was was happening, simply said "You know sometimes these things happen". He then proceeded to place me on that 14 min hold because I requested to speak to a supervisor and was then told by Pablo that one was not available and that I should wait for a call back to the driver on the reservation's phone (my husband James **).
After this, we went up to pick up the rental only to wait an additional 30 min for the van that was just sitting there while I saw dozens of other customers leave in their rentals. We only got the van after finally waiting 30 min because we went back to the pick up window to ask where the van was to then be told that they were waiting for it to be brought. One of the car pick up guys asked what was up and asked if the van that was sitting literally right in front of us was the one we're waiting for... Which it was. They sort of laughed it off and asked if they wanted the van driver to us or if we just wanted to take it, which we did. This is a family trip with many small kids who sat on a plane for 3 hours to then also have to stand in a hot parking lot and deal with this. On top of all of this, we called our insurance to then be told that we would indeed be covered. I am very dissatisfied with the service and plan on taking this complaint all the way up to corporate.

Terrible experience. Front-desk employee pushed me to purchase a toll pass for duration of week, even though I repeatedly and forcefully told him that I wouldn't need it (I was on business, staying in the same suburb that my week-long meetings were located). The Advantage employee wouldn't accept no for an answer and finally I just caved when he told me that if I didn't use the toll pass I'd be able to refund it after returning the car. This was explicitly stated.
Lo and behold, upon returning the car, (a different) Advantage employee looked at me like I had three heads when I indicated that I expected to be refunded the value of the toll pass. I was directed toward a customer support line, where I waited for an hour, explained my situation to multiple people, and was told that they would call me back. Days later, no such call has happened. Furthermore, I reserved a compact car but was given a truck, which meant that I spent 30% more on fuel than I expected to.

I reserved a car with Advantage at Newark Airport and traveled there from Manhattan to pick it up. When I arrived the woman at the counter said she would not rent me the car unless I had proof on paper that I had car insurance. She falsely insisted that this "requirement" had been sent on the online reservation confirmation. I had a printout of the confirmation, and of course there was no such thing on it. The woman refused to rent us the car. So I went over to Budget and rented one with no problem. Which is no surprise since I have absolutely no red flags - just a normal customer. My question is, how can these Advantage jokers stay in business?

All I wanted to do was change the pickup time, it came out wrong when I rec. the reservation. You wait on hold for very long periods of time. If and when you finally reach a person they tell you they can't even change the time. That I need to call my agent! Who even uses a agent these days? I told them I did it online at the website. She still can't help me, so I guess my only options are to cancel most likely with a charge, or wait 8 hours in the office till pickup time. Never use them again.

Wait time to get to the Advantage rental counter was over an hour. Once at the counter Advantage's agent, Jessica declined to enter my insurance information saying she didn't need it because she trusted me. When she printed out my charges they were almost $200 higher than listed in my reservation. When asked about each charge her only answer was "these are the fees you must pay or don't take the car". I had been in their office for nearly 1 1/2 hours and didn't want to leave without a car. On further examination the "fee" for $185.43 was insurance Jessica had added then told me I was declining it under her guidance at checkout on the credit card interface.
Customer service assured me they would have a Denver manager call me within 24 hours. I have called customer service multiple times over the past week and still no call. Their office is full of surveillance cameras which will show me trying to give Jessica my insurance information from my cell phone but apparently, they only use this when it's to their advantage. On top of this the car was filthy inside & out. It appears at the least the Denver/DIA office participates in or at least condones deceptive trade practices. It's worth paying a few extra dollars at another agency to avoid this scam, hopefully then you will have a chance at a clean car, reasonable lines and actually paying the amount quoted to you on your reservation.

Intended to title this "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", but then I realized I could not think of anything good about this organization, and I use that term loosely. On June 19, 2017, I had a reservation a Advantage Rent A Car, 23790 E. 79 Ave., Denver, Colorado. Our flight was five hours late, so we arrived at the airport shortly after midnight. We proceeded to the area designated for pickup by the car rental vans and waited and waited and waited. At one time there were four of us there waiting for the Advantage van, but the "smart" one gave up and left. Several of the other car rental companies' vans came by twice before our guy finally showed.
Upon arriving at the Advantage site, there were only two people in front of us, but it took the two clerks about twenty minutes to process their rentals. It was now about two in the morning and the clerk had a sullen disposition, but I attributed that to it being the middle of the night. I later decided his disposition was probably always of the sullen variety.
The first thing he did was check my reservation and say that I didn't have one. I pulled out my paperwork and told him that I did have a reservation, to which he asked what time I was suppose to pick up the car. I told him 7:30 p.m. and he said "All the reservations are removed from the system after the vehicle is not picked up for six hours after the scheduled pickup time." I protested that they had my credit card number, and no doubt would have charged me for the car, and he said he would check with the manager and see whether he would approve of their honoring by reservation. He shortly returned with the "good news" that my reservation would be honored.
My reservation was for an Optima. He asked where I was going and I responded Steamboat Springs, to which he said the Optima was not suitable for driving in the mountains and I needed an SUV. He said they would make me a great deal and I could get an SUV for only about $125.00 more for the week, which I declined stating that I would take the Optima. He then tried to get me to take the insurance which I declined, and to take the EZ pass which I declined. He said if I got on the toll road without the EZ Pass it would cost me the amount of the toll, plus and administrative fee of $25.00 per use. I still declined the EZ pass and he gave me the keys to a vehicle, stating that he had given me a CR-V, instead of the Optima that I had reserved and that the vehicle was in the second row, and a specific space.
This is now about 2:30 in the morning, I am 75 and my wife is 71 and he is sending us out into a dark parking lot with all our bags to search for a CR-V somewhere in the second row. Upon leaving the office I noticed there was an Optima parked by the door with the driver's side door opened, so I "assumed" this must be our car. I tried the key in the ignition and the car started, so I opened the trunk and placed our bags in it. About this time the agent came out of the office and said "that is not your car." I told him that the key he give me started the car, so I assumed it must be ours. He says "no, your car is the CR-V in the second row, space whatever, and the keys are in the console." We then retrieved our bags from the trunk and proceed to walk across the dark parking lot with our bags looking for a CR-V.
When we arrived at the specified space it was occupied by a Hyundai Tucson. Sure enough, the keys were inside the console, so I tried to open the rear tailgate with the remote. The button for the tailgate was labeled "Hold", so I held it down and the tailgate sill would not open. I placed all our bags in the backseat and after dealing with another surly fellow at the gate we were allowed to leave. Our hotel was about four miles from the car rental site, and it took about three hours from the time our plane landed to reach our destination.
After, the second time of loading our bags into the back seat, I found there was an owner's manual in the glove box. The manual said that to open the tailgate lid hold down the remote button and raise the tailgate by pressing on a latch on the tailgate, a latch which is hidden from view. Now, why didn't I find that in the dark and 2:30 in the morning? We had the Tucson for a week and it was a great little car, drove well and averaged about 35 miles per gallon. Now for the return saga.
Our flight was leaving at 6:45 a.m. so we had to be at the airport by about 5:00 a.m. We arrived at the Advantage office about 4:49 a.m. and dealt with the same gate attendant, who was not as surly this time. We went in the office to check out and I told the clerk that I had driven on the toll road without knowing there was no way to pay the toll. He said okay he would add EZ pass to my rental. I requested a copy of my bill and he said it would be emailed to me. I was in a hurry so I didn't ask any questions.
We got out to the pickup spot for the van and waited about 15 minutes before it arrived. The driver loaded our bags and some other passengers bags and left. After waiting about 15 minutes I went into the office and told them we were short on time and the driver was not there. About this time another Advantage van pulled up and parked behind our van. After another five minutes or so of waiting another Advantage employee came on the van and remarked that our driver was absent. I told him we had been waiting on the van about twenty minutes and that we were short on time. He left and a few minutes later another driver showed up and took us to the airport.
Upon arriving at home I checked my email and found that they had sent me a copy of my bill and added a charge for the EZ pass of $79.92. I drove on the toll road for probably ten miles and the toll would have probably been around $3.00, and net profit to Advantage of $76.92. I did a little research and found that Advantage in Denver participates in the Plate Pass System and that "Every car is Plate Pass ready. No pre-enrollment or signup is required." Under the Plate Pass system the renter is suppose to be charged the actual toll, plus an administrative fee, so there was no need for the clerk to add the EZ pass to my bill, except to extract more money.
Calling Advantage customer service is akin to calling a recording, they have no knowledge about how the toll system works and they are either unable or unwilling to help resolve the issue. After calling about five or six times and sending an email to an address providing by their recording, an email which was returned as undeliverable, I finally gave up and filed a dispute with my credit card company (Citi) who reversed the charge and sent me an email in less than 24 hours saying the reversal was permanent. Never, ever, rent from this company, even if they quote a fantastic rate. What appears to be a good deal, will turn out to be more expensive than they quote, without delivering what they promised and a truck load of frustration.

We recently rented a car at the Orlando airport and it was a very frustrating situation. We were overcharged because the agent put us down for two drivers when we told him upon rental pickup and return that we did NOT want the additional driver option. But he used the electronic signature pad to trick us into requesting additional driver option. He claimed that I had to sign because the rental was charged to my credit card and my wife had to sign because she was the driver. The signatures ended up going to the box for additional driver option box. We will contest this overcharge with our credit card company because their agent was such a jerk and liar. Will never recommend this company to anyone or ever use this company again!

So my wife and I travel to Houston, TX and go to the Advantage desk to pick up a compact car. They had advertised a Nissan. Instead they give us a Volkswagen Beetle convertible. I hate that car, and ask for another. They say it is the only compact they have. It has 39,000-odd miles on the clock. The passenger-side front door rattles every time we go over a bump. The sun visor on the driver side is missing (I later find it in the seat pocket in the back of the car, where someone put it because it was broken). We pay some ten dollars a day for toll road access, which turns out to be totally unnecessary. They charge USD 200 dollars deposit. As of now (Wednesday night) I still have not received the deposit back. When I call Advantage to complain, they say it depends on my bank. Well, I will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. That will hit Advantage with an immediate fine of USD 10,000. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

He told us to mark it on the form as preexisting damage, as we had not yet handed the form in, and be on our way. We did so, and now a month later are being charged with damaging the car. The documents used in the damage claim have been forged, but lack our signature. This is a huge headache! In the future, we will avoid it by renting from a car agency you have heard of before to save a few bucks. In the end the hassle and potentially having to deal with insurance claims over an accident caused by one of their employees on their premises is ridiculous.

After 15 minutes I went and asked why only 1 person working. I was told they had no vehicles and were only processing as vehicles came back. Surely you know how many Cars are out and how many are booked, it's simple arithmetic. Now 25-30 people in line. Please note they ask for a time period of when you will be picking up the vehicle. My flight was 30 minutes late arriving at DFW but I was still well within the 2 hour time frame of the vehicle reservation until... You wait an hour and more for vehicles to come back and when it's finally your turn at the desk the representative says "your reservation expired 15 minutes ago and we don't have any vehicles for you."
I never said a word, I went over to National, paid about 30% more for the rental car and decided to write and tell as many people as possible to avoid this company at all cost. Nothing they could do would make me go within spitting distance of their kiosks. Apparently the US government employees are forced to use them due to price. They really should consider the cost of the 3 employees who stood behind me in line for 11/2 hours. As a business owner that equated to more than 41/2 hours employee time in the middle of the afternoon. More than enough to offset the cost of a reputable and professional car rental company like Avis, Hertz, National, etc. These folks need to be out of business. These folks can't even be rated. I rent cars almost weekly, due to extensive travel for business. I have never in my life had such an unpleasant experience. I still get angry thinking about it. It wasn't WHAT was said; it was HOW it was said. The girl at the counter smugly asked for my fiance's Dec sheet for his auto policy. We thought she was mistaken. She wasn't kidding. Without a Dec sheet she adds a huge fee for daily insurance. She was rude, condescending, and seemed to take personal delight in being difficult. We were unable to get the Dec sheet for my fiance's policy, and we couldn't use mine without another major upcharge to add me as a driver, which made her visibly happy.
I needed to cancel my reservation with Hotwire and make a new one. She was miffed that we had bypassed all the minefields. Surely, the customer associates get commissions on the upcharges? I can think of no other reason she would have the kind of response she had. I thought of all the tourists who don't have the resources we had, and are victimized by her "gotcha" attitude. Why would anyone in their right mind opt to deal with a person like that, when all the other competitors are friendly and helpful? I figured out the reason for the big deal about requiring the Dec sheets for the insurance policies, and for forcing people to buy their insurance coverage when they can't provide their Dec sheet. I mean, who carries a copy of their insurance policy with them?
I was given a car that was all smashed up on the driver side. Had I not noted the damage on the sign out sheet, Advantage would have charged me with that damage! I'm considering seeing an attorney to investigate this. I'm certain that Advantage is charging multiple people for the same damage. And I'm sure it could be proven in a court of law. Their competitors don't require pre-flight damage inspections, don't hard sell damage insurance, and don't take joy in aggravating their customers! Why would anyone in their right mind use this company more than once?

We were really disappointed with our recent car hire with Advantage, booked through Economy Bookings. We have three complaints about the service. 1. The car hire was hard to find at the airport. When we arrived at the airport, tired after a long flight, we followed the instructions on the email which said to look for the Europcar stand at Orlando airport. This turned out to be non-existent and after wandering around for some time, and having to ask a number of other car hire companies if they knew where we would find Europcar, we eventually were pointed in the direction of Advantage, who confirmed that our booking was with them. Nowhere in the emails we were sent were we told to look for Advantage and we found it a stressful start to our holiday, worried that our car booking didn't exist.
2. The salesman was pushy, and tried to sell us services that we had already paid for. When we finally found our booking with Advantage, the salesman was extremely pushy, and tried to sell us several different packages, including a car upgrade for $12 a day, suggesting that the car we had hired wouldn't be big enough (it was plenty big enough), and then told us we ought to book insurance with them. At this point, we were very confused, as we had amended our booking several weeks before to include full insurance. The salesman didn't appear to have this on record, and would only believe us when we produced the documentation. Again, this was a stressful experience, and it came across as very unprofessional.
3. The salesman was misleading and manipulated us into purchasing an unnecessary toll pass, for $9 per day. Again, the salesman was pushy and said we should purchase a toll pass, at a cost of $9 per day. We felt that he shamefully misrepresented our need for the pass and exploited the fact that we didn't know the area.
We explained that we would be staying in central Orlando and just visiting the Disney and Universal parks, not going further afield and we asked if we would pass through a lot of tolls. As visitors to the area, we trusted him when he told us that there were tolls everywhere and that we would certainly pass through a lot. A few days into the trip, we realised that he had grossly misrepresented the situation. We went through two tolls the entire trip (on our journeys to and from the airport, on our first and last day). Each of these two tolls cost around $6, well under the $9 daily fee we were charged. So, due to misrepresentation from the salesman at Advantage, we have ended up being charged around $117 for $12 worth of tolls.
We contacted Advantage (initially by phone, where we were directed to an email address by an automated message) during our trip to explain the situation and ask that we would not be charged, but received no reply and the amount was subsequently taken from my card, with no explanation or reply to my email. We complained to Economy Bookings, and were told that as we couldn't prove what had happened, we weren't entitled to a refund for the toll pass.

Next they needed to see my itinerary so they can see when we were going home, I guess the dates we gave them for our reservation weren't good enough. When I asked them why they needed to see my airline information I was told it's always been their policy. I told them that is not true because I rented from them many times before and never once did they need that. I also told them that the person they helped just before me didn't have to show their itinerary.
Eventually after probably 45 minutes to get our rental we were off. Our return was even worse than the start. After the gentleman checked the car to make sure the gas tank was full and that there was no scratches, dents or mess we just had to have the people at the desk give us our receipt when the guy behind the counter asked if we needed a printed receipt. I said no. I didn't need one that my credit card company will send me my receipt. I never expected the nasty comment from the guy behind the counter, as he was mimicking me saying in a disparaging tone, no, I didn't need a receipt. And that was the beginning of our disrespectful counter person's remarks.
The next was him running out to our car telling us we were not allowed to have a dog in the car. When I told him he is a service dog and he has full access to everywhere. He told me he was not allowed in the car. I then told him he was breaking the law by saying the dog is not allowed in the car. He then said the dog left hair in the car. We told him he didn't, (Because we use a seat cover to cover the seat so there is no hair). My husband then took pictures to prove there was no hair. We rent a car at least once a month, and we have never experienced anything like this. All of this occurred on May 20, 2017 through May 23, 2017.

Extremely disappointed with the service offered by Advantage. Firstly the car we booked was taken on the day of our rent. So we end up taking a unserviced car. The car was in such a bad shape and we were lucky just to reach Orlando, Florida safely to change the car. The process to change the car was so lengthy it wasted 4 hours of our time at the airport just to change it and we had to scrap our plans because of it. Then after returning the car in DC and sign the release form, your company charged me twice to my credit card, without giving any reasons. I wrote an email to you DCA@advantage.com and it bounces back. I cc the Orlando Airport Head, Mr ** and I am praying for his response. As outgoing call to US is very expensive. Seriously worst car rental EVER!!!

The guy at the counter told that the total for renting a car is just $468 and $129 for insurance. But at the end, they charged us $900. If we call the customer care and talk about this issue they are saying that they cannot do anything and they can't help. We have the agreement of the rental $600 dollars which they initially told. Can I sue the company with that rental document?

We rented a car from Advantage (also known as E-Z Rent-A-Car) in Kahului, Hawaii on Feb 16, 2017. It was around 11:30 pm and the lot was poorly lit and when we self checked the car we could only see a couple of minor scratches and dents. Ten minutes into our drive to South Kehei the car started to make funny suspension noises but the car was operating OK and since we were very tired from our travel we decided to return the car the next day. When we returned the car and told them about the noise they did not come out to look at the car and just gave us a replacement car.
On Feb 26, 2017 when we returned this car the extra $200 holding charge was put back onto our credit card and we were told we were good to go. On March 3, 2017 we received a letter from PurCo stating that damage had been reported on the car. On March 20, 2017 we received a letter with supporting picture etc. stating that there was major damage to a control arm and we were to pay them $5,537.62 USD for the repair, loss of use, etc.
The incident report stated that we possibly hit something or a curb. Our dispute letter stated that we had simply drove from the rental lot to our condo and then straight back to the lot the next day and did not hit, run over or strike anything with the car and my wife verified that she was in the car with me whenever it was driven. The pictures that were sent to us clearly show no damage to the front right tire or the rim. Also the pictures from ground level show no damage to the car and the only time you can see damage is when the picture was taken from below when the car is up on a hoist. I pointed out in my dispute letter that the only way I would have been able to see this damage which must have been done in a prior rental was if I was to get on my back and crawl under the car.
A confirmation of receipt of the dispute letter was received April 4, 2017 then today May 30, 2017 I received a letter from PurCo stating that "after careful consideration, we believe the claim is valid and will continue to pursue full payment of the claim". Any reasonable person looking at the pictures can see that we had no way of seeing this prior damage. Not only are they basically telling my wife and I that we are liars but they rented us a car that was unsafe to be driving. This could happen to anybody renting a car since I am sure they don't inspect the undercarriage before they put it out for rental again.
My private insurance will cover this minus my $500.00 cdn deductible but I refuse to pay for something I did not do. Since I have canceled the credit card that was used for this rental I guess they will have to take me to court to recover the cost. I will look forward to having a judge look at the pictures and listening to our statement of what occurred. I should be suing them for the stress this has cause us and the fact that they rented a car that was unsafe to drive. I will never rent from Advantage Discount Car Rentals or E-Z Rent-A-Car again.

First time renting from these guys last week. When renting the car I lost half an hour because they said, "If there is any damage, just come back in." The car had huge scrapes, front bumper damage, and numerous spots around the complete exterior. I did the fuel purchase option, only to find 3/4 of a tank before I left the lot. When I dropped the car off the line was backed up to the entrance of the drop off lot area. The woman came to the car and said, "Just leave it running", and when I stepped out she jumped in. I said, "But I need my stuff." She popped the trunk and I grabbed my bag. I asked for the receipt. She said, "You will get it emailed, or you can ask at the counter inside." Stood in line for 35 minutes watching the attendants tell the people in front of me that they would have to wait an hour for cars, even though they had reservations.
While checking in for the flight, I realized my jacket was still in the back seat of the car. I called the number on the rental agreement and got... You guessed it... A person in God knows where that would be willing to process a claim. I asked, "Can we just call them now?" "No. We need to process a claim, and "IF" they find anything." Of course, when I called four days later, after waiting on the phone a 10 minutes, I got "No, they didn't find anything." I said, "No, that's not right, because I know it was there." Reply??? "Would you like to speak to the people at that location?" "Yes." "OK... click!"
Summation: Car was beat up. Assume if I didn't say anything they would have charged me for the damage. How many other people have paid for the same damage??? Problems on return because yeah, parking cars is so technical. BS about the fuel purchase option. No receipt. Reservations... that didn't make a difference. Personal property??? It's all theirs. Before you rent from these people, think about how desperate you really are.

I booked a car through Advantage at Orlando International Airport. I was allocated a Chevy Cruze with only 6500 miles on the clock but badly scratched so took a while to note all of them on the check-in/check out form before I set off. Discussed with representative and agreed to bring the car back full of petrol, however, my credit card statement showed a charge of $42.92 for fuel as they had sneaked in a FPO [Fuel Purchase Option] that I initialled so I could have brought back the car with an empty tank.
Nice one Advantage, I will not be using you again. I should have been warned by other reviews how bad the company was but thought I had covered all the bases and did not expect this underhand deceit. Also be careful to hand back the lock/start remote control as they charge $400 if you accidentally walk away with it, surely that could not be the reason they ask you to leave the engine running when you return the car though I cannot imagine any other reason for such a request!!!

I rented a car at Denver airport from Advantage. They did not have the car I reserved - a 4 wheel drive Rav4. I did finally get a similar size 4 wheel drive vehicle at my reserved rate after haggling for 10 minutes as they tried to up-sale. While renting, no mention of toll roads was made, no notice at counter, no info provided, no comments regarding unpaid toll fees. A month after returning home, Advantage charged my credit card with $42.80 "unpaid toll violation". I knew it was trouble when I called Advantage customer service and heard the main menu option of "press 4 for toll violations".
E-470 reports that the toll amount was: ExpressToll Costs: $8.60 or License Plate Toll Costs: $10.80. (If Express Toll charge is not paid in advance, then License Plate Toll cost is billed based on photo of license plate taken on toll road). Advantage charged an additional $30. I have contacted Advantage Customer service and spoken to multiple representatives. All have refused to help, reduce the fee or take responsibility for this hidden and exorbitant additional charge.

All LAX car rentals are off-site from the LAX airport so you have to catch a bus to get to the rental office. After waiting for the bus, there is a 20 minute drive to the Advantage rental office. Once at the Advantage Rental office, I waited in line for 1.5 hours just to get attended to at the counter, because it took so long for the counter attendant to get the car to each customer. I waited another 20 minutes to receive my actual car and finally drive off. This LAX office is totally understaffed and no fun at all. The LAX office needs to hire more staff to serve at the counters and get the cars ready outside to get them to the customers quicker. We dropped off our car at John Wayne Airport and this is a much better office.
I suggest that you do not use Advantage Rental Car ever and I will not use them again due to all the negative reviews. Also try and find a better car rental company when flying into LAX, and rather pay a little bit more for better service. Better still, don't fly into LAX and try and use another airport in Los Angeles with better car rental service.

What started out on a good note, ended terribly after having to deal with being charge for extra days that were not actually used. After calling the corporate level, I was hung up on TWICE. I was told I would receive a call from a supervisor at the corporate level - that also did not happen. I finally called back and was directed to call the branch level, where the associate told me he would have his manager call me - again this did not happen. I am out about $100 (conversion to Canadian dollars) for a rental day that I never used. The organization is unprofessional, inconsiderate, and mismanaged. I would never, ever, use this company again, and I would suggest going any other rental company. So incredibly disappointed in what happened.

I had to travel quickly for my grandfather's funeral, and my 2-year old daughter came with me. After a long day of travel, I just wanted to pick up the car that I had pre-paid for online. I was asked about insurance and I said I had my own insurance. The desk clerk said "So, just the basic insurance." At this point, my daughter was crying that she was hungry and tired. I said yes. He directed me to initial a bunch of lines on this barely readable screen, telling me to initial and then move the arrow down to read the rest. He notified me that there would be a $200 hold placed on my credit card - okay fine. Never once was I told about additional charges, and I was so exhausted and grief-stricken that I didn't bother to read through each line of the contract.
About 5 miles after leaving the airport, the "Maintenance Required" light came on. The mileage corresponded to needing an oil change, so I just left it. I had the car a few days as I drove to my grandfather's funeral and spent time with family. Upon returning the car, I was notified that I would be charged more than double the rate expected because of PAYING for THEIR basic insurance. I asked the guy that I returned the car to, and he said it wasn't his thing. He also completely blew off the maintenance light. I contacted customer service and they were no help. "You initialed on the contract". I replied back with a full explanation and mentioned how I felt completely swindled. No response AT ALL. This was such a bad experience for so many different reasons: The agent at the desk lied to us about tolls. He told us that there was no way to pay a toll other than through Advantage and gave us a choice of paying Advantage $25 each time we went through a toll or an extra $10 per day for a smart tag. There IS a way to pay a toll online within 5 days with no penalty so the smart tag is unnecessary. They gave us a car with a slow leak in the tire. After filling it up several times the first day, we became concerned and called in. They said that if the tire became flat, we would be responsible for repairing it (no roadside assistance!) so we should bring it back to them right away if we wanted to avoid a flat. We did that - drove straight out to LAX to drop it off and get a new car.
When we got there they charged us the gas premium for not filling the tank before we turned the car in! You would think they would waive that since they told us to come straight back in order to avoid a flat! When we asked to talk to a manager a very snarky guy came out -- was extremely rude and basically said he didn't care if we were happy with Advantage or not. They lied to us about insurance. Said we had to pay it through them even though we had already bought a policy through Alliance. Total amount of L.A. rental through Hotwire with all the charges they added on was DOUBLE the advertised price.

Never having rented from Advantage before I was impressed with their low price for a mid sized SUV at Houston's IAH location. My good impressions basically stopped there. I was asked where I was traveling to and I stated "Galveston". Not being familiar with the Texas Highway/Interstate system I had no idea which roads required tolls. I was told by the salesperson at the counter that I'd encounter "numerous tolls" throughout the week in that area. So I reluctantly agreed to the $9.99/week toll pass. It wasn't needed once!!! Next I was told that my NY insurance and/or credit card insurance wasn't accepted in Texas. I was told that I had to purchase the minimum insurance program at $13.99 per day. Again, I feel this was a flat out lie after doing further research. But at 10 PM on a Saturday I didn't have the time or patience to google for answers.
Also, they wanted to charge another $13.99 to add my wife as a driver. Since she was at baggage claim I said, "She can go without driving this week." I then went to find the vehicle which was a Jeep Compass. No disrespect to Compass owners but this vehicle couldn't get out of its own way. Terrible acceleration and a very suspect transmission. To top it off (Literally) the next day as Gulf salt water spray hit the windshield I found out the wiper fluid was empty! That's basic maintenance Advantage! I had to purchase some fluid at the nearest gas station in order to see clearly through the windshield. So, if you want to be lied to, drive a sub par vehicle without basic maintenance go ahead and rent from them!

I paid the one week rate of 120.02 based on a $17.99 daily fee and taxes. When I arrived to pick up the car, they did not have the vehicle I selected and offered me a larger vehicle at the same price. I repeated, "At the same price of $17.99 per day." When I checked out and received my contract provided digitally without a hard copy to review, I was charged an additional $15.00 a day for upgrade fee and for full insurance coverage instead of what was required to cover the vehicle. Disappointed, I wanted the contract changed to remove optional insurances and the upgrade fee.
Long story short, I was told they could not make changes to the contract and I had to return the vehicle before initiating another contract the following day when I returned to have corrections made. I was charged $149.00 and not credited my original $120.02 for 1 day car rental. WTH! I would never go to Advantage again. I filed a claim with my credit card and charges were reversed immediately. I originally booked online but when I picked up the minivan I rented last Dec 27, 2016, my husband and I opted pay "additional" $304.22 for insurance with roadside assistance. Fine, it's the price I'm willing to pay for peace of mind and to make sure my family will be safe on a very long journey. But renting with them proved to be a disaster! We had a tire blow up in the middle of the freezing night on a freeway. I called the 24 hr roadside assistance number on my rental agreement and since it was 2 a.m., they told me to call 911!
I then called Advantage "Customer Service" to try to get some help. Customer service then told me to get the spare tire and fix it myself! Yes, customer service told me to let all the passengers out of the van in the pitch black-freezing-out of nowhere place since spare tire is under the passenger chairs. But I told them I was travelling with my 2 children and my elderly mom on a wheelchair. They told me that's all they can do for me - to point out the location of the spare tire and do it myself! Thanks to my brother who drove all the way to help us out. Upon opening the huge doors of the van to get all our passengers out, the strong freezing wind blew up everything inside including our toll ticket! We had to pay higher toll than the normal.
Then, when we finally changed the tire, everyone was coughing their lungs out! We even bought a brand new tire since the old tire was no longer serviceable. We had no choice since we had a long way to go. Good thing the owner of the shop who fixed our tire and where we bought the new tire was very kind enough to accommodate us even if his shop was still closed. I e-mailed and wrote on their web complain section several times... Although one guy called on January 10th and he did apologise but I had to cut the call short and told him to call again since I was inside the airplane for a return flight and had to turn my mobile off... Never did I hear from him or anybody ever since! I tried to e-mail them several times but nothing - not even a computer generated answer. Please double check any minor car damages in both the body and the windshield when using these guys and mark it on your inspection report. In fact I would take 15 minutes or more and mark ever tiny microscopic imperfection on the checkout report, even if it holds up the checkout line. They take advantage (no pun intended) of a dark rental garage to anticipate that you will miss something, which will allow them to charge you for repairs. Advantage charged us for a small gravel pit on the windshield when we returned the car. We had to do a double take for them to point this out, which was difficult to see among the other dozens or more of sand and gravel pits in this windshield.
As far as I am concerned they picked out one, which had an extremely small minor star pit and said "This is yours"! When I turned around to get a new car, Alexander at the Sky Harbor Airport, was very nasty and told me "to just drive it lady, it is fine!" I don't drive my personal car with any dashboard lights on so why would I pay a daily rate to drive a car with a dashboard light on. I requested a discount and Alexander said he would give me one. I reserved an Advantage Car using the Orbitz website. Price was good. When I arrived at the airport to get the car, I was told that the policy for local renters was different. There was to be a very large hold put on my debit card, I needed to have a copy of my insurance card, and I was limited to driving 150 miles per day. Yes, I have a local address, but I am currently caring for my parents out of state and I have to fly to Dallas from time to time to check on things at home. I had a round trip ticket from Portland to DFW. I also am fully ensured by no longer carry a paper, I used my smartphone to access my policy/numbers when needed.
Let me state that I believe that companies have the right to set their own policies however in this situation I have two major concerns: #1, These additional "rules" were not presented when I reserved the car on Orbitz. The agent said that Advantage has nothing to do with what is on the Orbitz site and that they were not responsible for that. I disagree. If they are allowing their product to be "sold" via a third agent, Advantage SHOULD make sure that the info is accurate on the site. My second major concern is the discriminatory nature of treating "local" residents differently than non-local residents - essentially putting an additional financial burden on someone because of their zip code. Sounds like discrimination to me.
I asked the agent why the policy was different for local residents. "Don't know, company policy." At that point, since I had not paid for the reservation, much to the shock of the agent, I said, "Alright, thank you very much, please give me my debit card and license back." I do carry a credit card but was not asked for that. I promptly took my business to another company in the rental complex and gladly gave them my business. At the other business, Budget, I was treated as I am treated anywhere in the country.
Companies are responsible for how they are represented, even by third parties - they can blame the "bait and switch" on the third party but because they played this game with me, they lost almost $400 in rental fees for a car that will be driven 40 miles over 5 days. Additionally, I will not rent from Advantage, ever again. This is the FIRST complaint letter I have ever written to a third party site.

The email address that printed out on my ticket was not my email address as I didn't give them one. Advantage quoted one price and slipped in a number of charges AFTER I received the "final" receipt. I called their customer service number and spoke to an individual who was totally unprofessional, I could tell that they were not listening to me (I could hear other people chatting and giggling in the background) and I had to repeat my information a number of times before they simply sent me to another number. I have been on hold for an hour and there is no sign that it's going to end but I'm leaving the call going on principle.
This is clearly a scam: They advertise low prices and then smack you with a series of fees as well as simply and blatantly charging more than what is reflected in the receipt. Then they have a customer service that only deals with calls from people who want new reservations and not from customers that they've ripped off. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I urge those in a position to investigate this company to do so. It may be employees exploiting ways to overcharge or it could be higher up in the company, but they are stealing from their customers.

I rented a car from Advantage online through Hotwire.com. When I went to the agency they changed the contract and was charging way more than the contract stated. Trying to sell me other products which I did not need. I did not rent the car. Was told to call Hotwire back for a refund. When I called Hotwire, they attempted to refund me. Called Advantage and they told Hotwire that I never came to pick the car up, therefore I did not receive a refund. Not only did they change the contract, but lied. I did not receive a refund of my money. I only lost $63.00 but it's the principle. Contract was changed and I didn't agree with it. So I had a right not to rent the car. Now I know why I was the only one at the counter when I came to get the car.

My complaint is about an unreasonable upcharge for a "better" car. $40 a day extra was supposed to be 80% off which means the car would cost $200 per day which isn't possible. I stood in line for more than 45 minutes to rent a car and was met with ambivalence at return. The first guy said "hey, this price is reasonable, a lot of other companies charge more." The manager on duty today said, "nothing I can do - you initiated the fee." I would not recommend this firm and I will definitely never use them again. And I will continue to tell my friends to not use their service.

The agent at the Front Counter was unfriendly and not helpful. She took forever to process our rental. She tried to sell us everything involved with extra insurance but didn't have the right personality to do this. She was actually quite surly. We did not need or require extra insurance as we had it. She seemed to not understand this.
On our return the shuttle bus driver was the worst of the worst. He never assisted with the luggage and never left his seat. He drove like a maniac to the Airport and when asked where a certain Airline was all he could say was "back". We did not know and were not informed that there was just one central drop off point. I have rented cars all over the USA for many years and this experience with Advantage was the worst. I will NEVER rent from them again and neither should you. We went to the airport and got our third car. It was dirty but worked basically. When we came home, we were charged for a lot of extra tolls and taxes, never told us. A rental car company with this many complaints pretty much daily should not be allowed to stay in business. Daily or hourly they are taking advantage of innocent consumers expecting to get a good rental car experience. We rented from them in Maui Kahului and like other complaints I have read rented a vehicle with damage on it. They claimed to have documented the damage and when we returned it they didn't say a thing. You would think they would have used the damage sheet when the car was rented and verified then there was no new damage. They didn't say a thing. But then yesterday we get a letter from a 3rd party claims company that there was damage to the vehicle that wasn't on it when rented. This company has a nice scam going, they have probably made claims on the same car over and over again. There was no additional damage to the car at all.
Then if you try to call the corp office no one answers!!! OMG a nationwide company that no one to answer phones??? SCAM SCAM SCAM. When is the attorney general going to get involved and shut this company down??? A company that has over 400 complaints in such a short time should be drawing the attention of the government offices that are suppose to protect consumers. I know I will be making an effort to get them shut down and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau finds out about this companies practices and treatment of consumers.

This car rental company advertises very low per-day rental rates however, when you go to pick up your reserved rental car, a great deal of up-selling pressure is placed on customers. They literally insist you take not just a higher cost vehicle, but many of the accessories they have available. During drop-off, the lines are usually very long as they often have only 1 or 2 customer service representatives to assist with both new rental customers and drop-off customers so if you have a flight to catch, make sure you give yourself lots of time so you don't miss your flight.

Renter beware! I am a person who does a lot of due diligence whenever I do anything. Accordingly I made inquiries of the rental company BEFORE I booked the car. Specifically I asked if they accepted debit cards & what was the amount that would be held on the car; as is the usual practice in the industry. I was informed, on 2 different calls w/ one of their agents (one of which was a conference call with my traveling companion) that an amount between $150-$200 would be held in addition to the actual cost of the car. As you know there are many people who are traveling to training on EXTREMELY tight & exact budgets. We are among those people. We made sure that the card that we were using had the amount for the card + an extra $200 for the hold.
When we went to pick up the car we were then informed that $150-$200 was the hold placed on credit cards. For debit cards they hold $350! (Sidebar: we had a previous, similar bad experience w/ Advantage Rental Cars & vowed never to use them again. So we were horrified when we found out that EZ Rental Cars was actually Advantage!) We asked for a manager who apologized but said there was nothing that he could do. He told us that that was "building policy", meaning that all the rental agencies had the same policy. He suggested that we use Uber. We explained that we were there for a convention and had to get back and forth from the hotel to the arena on a daily basis, so that was not feasible. He told us that the only other company there that accepted rentals was Payless. But, again, they would say the same thing.
We had to be at an orientation meeting by 1:00 on Thursday. We landed @11:54. So, as you can well imagine, this whole ordeal was making us very frustrated & very late. We took a chance and went to Payless who promptly gave us a car @the same rate & without any other complications. We told them what happened & they told us that they were constantly remedying renters' issues that had initially booked with Advantage. So I will rate my car rental experience with Payless Rental Cars as A+, stellar, fantastic, awesome, will use them from now on & recommend them to any & everyone. As for Advantage/EZ you should NEVER use them. They give bad/incorrect information when asked & then do nothing on the day to assist the renter in remedying the situation.

I had a very poor experience with this agency in charges for rental car. I rented a car at the Sacramento Airport & all the car agencies at airport already charge many extra fees, which is bad enough, but they try & add any extra charge they can think of. I reserved a standard SUV online & they showed a picture of a Toyota RAV 4 so I finished my reservation. Went to Advantage at airport. Customer service person sets up contract. It says "standard SUV" so I take keys & go to vehicle, this SUV had a license plate in window so I go back to Customer Service. Told them I didn't want a vehicle with license plate in back window, so they give me a Toyota RAV 4.
I leave with vehicle & then when time to return they changed the paperwork to read "intermediate SUV" & tell me there has been an upgraded charge. I tell them, "That not right." Online it says Toyota RAV 4 is standard. The customer service rep just argues with me back & forth then tells me that there is an upgrade charge because people like to rent them. She wouldn't adjust price, so I call manager. They agree with customer service rep without really hearing my side. So I call Corporate, explain situation to them & they tell me that because the SUV was standard when I rented it & it changed later they would refund the upgrade charge of 120. A few months go by. I don't hear anything. Then I call & they said refund was issued & they gave me a date. Another month goes by then I call & they said they decided not to give me the refund because they said I was aware of the upgrade charge, which is completely false.

We were told that since we had gone through a "third party" we were lower priority and if we didn't like it we should just go rent somewhere else. After over an hour wait the counter person was rude and confrontational. She threatened to cancel my reservation because my driver's license says "William" and the name on my credit card is "Bill." When we drove the car to destination 2 hours south of airport we recognized the car had 4 bald tires. We drove very reluctantly and did not go on major highways, we were appalled a car like this would be put on the road to rent. Lucky for us our family had a car and we could park this piece of junk.
When we returned to the airport we notified attendant of tires and asked what could be done for our inconvenience and safety concern. She stated rudely of course "call number on rental slip. Talk to corporate." Never even looked at tires, never with this company did we every get a response like, "we are sorry for that occurrence!"
I returned home, called corporate number, waited on hold over 40 minutes, called back twice. No surprise was not greeted nicely. No directions, no phone, no nothing. So I walked around and couldn't find it. I asked another car rental agency and they told me where to look. I walked up to the front desk and handed the lady my driver's license and credit card and she asked if I was familiar with their policies. I was a little taken back by that question so I said "I guess not. I rent vehicles quite regularly from other agencies and have never been asked that question". That's when she told me that there was a 150 mile limit on all vehicles and additional miles were 0.55 cents/mile.
I asked the lady to cancel the reservation for me and she said she would. I prepaid for my reservation online before I got there and was never told that. Long story short, they got me for $37.00. There is NO refund because their refund policy is that they will refund anything over $50.00. So I consider this a very cheap lesson concerning Advantage Car Rental. As a previous customer stated I'm only giving this one star because it's not possible to give it zero. Let me start with the fact that our family used Advantage in the past and had an awful experience concerning the type of car we reserved & the car they tried forcing us to take. It was one problem after another at the reservation desk & the rudest employees we'd ever dealt with. My husband swore he'd never use the company again. Unfortunately, I was taking our five children to Florida alone a couple weeks ago and handled all the transportation arrangements myself - trying to save my husband the hassle. I didn't remember the name of the company he didn't like and forgot to ask him. When he found out he couldn't believe I actually reserved a car with them. After realizing what I did I tried to be optimistic thinking maybe this time would be better. WAS I WRONG!!!
My awful experience started the second I walked up to the rental counter. I intentionally reserved and paid for a large SUV. The employee taking care of me told me that it was a busy season & he didn't have an SUV, he had a minivan. I politely argued saying I didn't want a minivan, I reserved an SUV. He then sarcastically told me when you make a reservation you aren't guaranteed what you reserve, you are guaranteed a vehicle with 4 wheels. I asked how long of a wait it would be until an SUV was available. He stated he might have one in 4 or 5 hours but I couldn't count on it.
With 5 children staring at me ready to start their vacation I couldn't exactly wait so I took the mini van. Fine - not what I wanted - but fine, I could deal with it. To be honest I was more angry and upset with how I was spoke to and the rudeness of the employee than the vehicle I'd be driving. Had that been the only problem I probably wouldn't take the time out to write to the BBB. I would've just warned friends and family about the scam they run and NEVER use them again. Thankfully the van did not give us any problems during the week.
The biggest problem came on the very last day when it was time to return it. Now let me back up & tell you I picked up the van in Miami, the return location was to be West Palm Beach airport all of which is in the agreement that's documented on all my paperwork. I plan our departure morning with what I thought was plenty of time to get to the airport, return the rental, take the shuttle & check all our bags. We look up the Advantage car rental airport address, type it in our GPS, and half an hour later we arrive at an address that doesn't even somewhat resemble a car rental business.
I attempt to call the 1-800 number to speak to someone & wait on hold while one of my daughters tries to look up any information she can to get us where we need to be. She finds another address she thinks will work. We have no choice but to try it so off we go. The next place we pull in to is at least closer to the airport but again not a return location. At this point I'm still on hold and getting upset and nervous not knowing what I'm supposed to do and knowing I've wasted a lot of time I didn't plan on. I decide to drive to the airport to look for any signs that say Advantage.
After circling the airport several times and not seeing any signs I pull in to an Avis to ask if they know where Advantage is. The security guard gives me directions to the Hilton where she says they are located. We then head to the Hilton. I run inside to ask where I should leave my vehicle and they tell me Advantage hasn't used their location for a long time. By now I'm nearly in tears - I have 5 kids in the car, our flight leaves in less than an hour, and a mini van that I can't drop off.
Within the hour and a half we've wasted I've tried every phone number and address possible and cannot get ahold of anybody to help me. As a last resort I drive back to Avis & beg some of the workers to help me. I explain my situation and ask if I can please leave the van there so we don't miss our flight. The manager agrees so I promise to contact Advantage as soon as possible to get someone to pick up the van. My children and I had to run through the airport to make our flight. To say my morning was stressful is a gross understatement. Not only did we almost miss our flight, I had the worry of leaving the rental.
As soon as our plane landed I called the Advantage 1-800 number again. I waited on hold for over 40 minutes before finally getting to speak to someone. Once I explained what happened she told me she'd have to have a 'consultant specialist' call me back. I was barely able to get my name & phone number out before she hung up on me. It's 24 hours later and I still haven't heard from anyone. I've sent two emails, left a voicemail and called multiple times trying every extension possible to talk to someone. No one ever answers the phone. Meanwhile the van I rented is sitting at the airport. Never use this company! I've never come across so many incompetent individuals! I honestly don't understand how they are allowed to remain in business!

I requested a car online and when I showed up to the location at Denver International Airport I was informed that I couldn't rent a car because I had outstanding toll charges from the previous year on my account. This was after waiting in line for 30 min in the middle of the night. They had all my contact information and no one ever contacted me about this nor was I notified when I rented the car online. Beyond that, I looked at my planner and I knew for sure I was not in the state of Colorado at the time they were claiming I used the toll roads and I could prove it.
The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and informative and tried everything in his power to help me or get someone but Advantage does not give him the tools or support he needs in the middle of the night. I decided I would just pay the fees, take the car, and deal with it the next day because I was exhausted and the poor people in the huge line behind me were waiting even longer. He then warned me that if I signed and paid I was admitting fault. I tried to wake some friends up in the middle of the night but no one answered. I decided to pay and never rent from them again because that was better than sitting there until morning.
The next day corporate apologized and sent me a 2 day free voucher and 20% off. I just tried to use that voucher and the same nice gentleman was there at 2 am when I arrived. He told me he's not allowed to honor the voucher, management has to do it. He asked me if I could bring the car back before midnight on the day of return and present it then. I had a friend bring me back on day 2 at 8 pm. The girl at the counter gave me attitude. She called a guy over who called the manager who was supposed to help me.
The manager said over the phone I have to rent the car for longer than 2 days to use. It does not say that anywhere on the voucher and the goal should be to make up for my horrible experience and keep my business, not try to get more money out of me. He then said I was returning the car early!! Um yes, because I was asked to in order for you to be here and why do they care if they get the car back at 8 pm, in time to rent it out again the night instead of 2am?? It's only 6 hrs early! So then they took my voucher and the manager said he would take care of it in the morning. He never came out to help me!
It's now 6 days later and nothing has been done. I called and they told me corporate has to handle this and they are gone so someone will call me. Nothing. I filled out a complaint and asked to be contacted. Nothing. I called and sat on hold for 1:15 (all this while on my vacation) and then their system hung up on me so I had to email again.

If I could give this company a negative rating, I would do so. They discriminate against local renters by limiting the mileage which was hidden in the fine print of a generic website that listed many companies. A friend said I better check on the mileage issue since they had a problem with Advantage. When I called the rude representative at Advantage, they confirmed that they did in fact discriminate against local renters by limiting daily mileage. When I cancelled the reservation, I was billed a $50 cancellation fee which should be illegal. They are charging for a service never received. Many other companies do not limit mileage for locals such as Alamo. So take my advice and NEVER use this company. I see a lot of other bad reviews here so obviously they don't care; they know they won't get repeat business so they have to stick it to the customer at first opportunity.

This is the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a so-called business. I rented a car through CARRENTALS.COM and was given a confirmation number and a local car rental agency's (ADVANTAGE CAR RENTAL) phone number and address to pick up the car. So I went to the address but there was another business there. I tried to call the phone number but the number was disconnected. OK, so I looked up their main number and called it and they told me that the location I was given has been closed for a while and I would have to pick up the car at the airport.
OK, I got to the airport and no one's there but there is a note telling you to call this number if you want service, so I call that number and someone told me that they would be there in a while. OK, fifteen minutes goes by and I am still waiting so I called again, but this time the young man rudely tells me that he is on his break and that I would have to wait. I was sympathetic to an employee working alone and having to go on a break.
So he shows up with an attitude and I told him I have a reservation for a car. He takes my identification and tells me that because I was a local resident I had to have full coverage insurance to rent a car because locals usually damage cars more than tourists. OK, IS THAT SO, HAH. FINE, but at no point when I was making the reservation was there any information about policies concerning locals. Trying to get a refund is an even bigger headache. I have, frankly, had better service in third world countries. Renters beware.

This company does not deserve 1 star. If I could give them a 0 I would. I requested a car through Priceline.com. The rental indicated unlimited mileage and the car was to be picked up from CTL Airport on Friday and returned on Tuesday. Total cost $205. My daughter and her husband get there well before the 12:30 pm pickup time. Then that's when everything went bad. They told my daughter that since she had NC driver license they would not get the unlimited mileage and would only receive 150 miles per day. After over an hour going back and forth with the agent about the additional .55 cents per mile. I contacted Priceline and the initial customer service rep advised they would pay the difference. I just needed to fax in my receipts.
Advantage then told my daughter that Priceline was not going to pay us back. (As if to say, they have encountered this before?) Which was none of her business. My daughter and her husband advised they would go ahead and rent the car. The agent stepped away from the counter and when they returned, began to explain all of the additional fees. $200 deposit plus another $150 "NC Car Rental Deposit". Grant you, I had already paid for the additional rental insurance. I've rented cars before from other reputable companies in NC for out of state travel and have never paid a "NC Car rental Deposit". On top of just the normal deposit.
We were unable to be together for Christmas so everyone was meeting at my house New Year's Eve to exchange gifts and have a "second Christmas". So even with the absurd fees, my daughter and her husband needed the rental car and this was 1 day before New Year's Eve and they were bringing my mother with them to visit me in Georgia and we had not made any other arrangements. We agreed to pay the deposits, with the understanding that the deposits would be refunded when the car was returned. This is now 1 1/2 hours later, but still prior to the 12:30 pm pickup. The agent all of a sudden says "I'm sorry we no longer have your car available." We were furious. How is that when my daughter never left the airport, vehicle was never cancelled and it was still well before the 12:30 pm pickup? Agent looks again and states, "oh we were able to switch the other customer out"...
So now we think they could finally get the rental and be on their way. The agent proceeds to take my son-in-law to the SUV we reserved on Priceline and while they are looking over the vehicle, a supervisor comes out and says, "I'm sorry but we don't rent SUVs to local NC residence?" What? Are you kidding? I'm on the phone and my daughter and her husband are just beside ourselves. They have now been there for 2 hrs and now you are telling us you won't even rent them the car? My daughter asked if they could rent a minivan, initially the answer was yes, but then once back inside, the agent literally was telling them they needed to go to another rental company and began looking up rates for other companies?
By this time, we are furious and exhausted from being given the runaround and the Advantage customer service number was absolutely no help. One just kept blaming the other and the 800 rep was limited in what they could do??? We eventually found, no thanks to Advantage, another rental company that had an SUV available and were able to go to use that rental company with absolutely no problems and no "NC Rental deposit" and my family arrived safely to Georgia. Even though we ended up paying twice the amount that was quoted on Priceline, in the end, I am absolutely sure we saved ourselves even more headaches and frustration, had we actually rented a car from Advantage.
I have expressed my concerns with Priceline and their business ethics, to falsely advertise unlimited mileage for a company that may have stipulations. This is truly a "bait and switch" relationship. After further discussing with Priceline, the second and third associate I spoke with at Priceline proceeded to tell me that Advantage's contract with them does indicate that they "may" have stipulations on the mileage. My discussion with Priceline was, as a consumer, using their Priceline product, my reservation says unlimited mileage and regardless of what their agreement is with Advantage, I have detrimentally relied on the information they provided me on their Priceline website and my contract is with Priceline.
There should be visible notification to the consumer to call or check rates/mileage, instead of advertising and making reservations with no restrictions and providing confirmation indicating "unlimited mileage". I will have second thoughts before I book through Priceline. I would never recommend Advantage Rental to anyone. They are unreliable and are not trustworthy.

When arriving two hours later than expected due to a plane delay the customer service was awful at Advantage Car Rental. After being greeted without a hello the person left me standing at the counter to help another agent. Upon returning to help me I was told I could upgrade my vehicle for an additional $115.00. When I said no thank you and paid with a debit card, an additional $200.00 was added to my bill and I was told they would do a credit check on me. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to comply since I was standing there with four pieces of luggage and no transportation to go to another car rental company. I will never use Advantage Car Rental again and would like my additional $200 refund immediately.

Let us review what happened: Our daughter and her family arrive at the airport around 6:10 pm and get on the shuttle to go to Terminal A. They call us at 6:27 pm and tell us they are on the shuttle. LGA is under construction and you have to go to Terminal A to get to the rental car shuttles. The shuttle takes about an hour and barely moves. She and her husband travel a lot, so they call and tell 800-777-5500 Advantage that they are on their way, but their flight was delayed and they are now sitting on the shuttle to nowhere. They are told their car has been canceled. They say it can't be so, even they can't cancel their reservation. It is prepaid and should be held for them up to 1 am. The Advantage 800# tells them that the local LGA rental center has canceled it. Our daughter and her husband and toddler tell them they need a car.
They then transfer them to the LGA car center and someone does pick up. They are told that their car was canceled since they didn't pick it up past one hour from their noon pickup time. Our daughter told them that they can't cancel her reservation and she can see on their website they are open until 1 am and she is on her way and to find her a car. She is then told that they have no other cars and they are closing at 8:30 pm and to not come. This is the night before Thanksgiving. No way they are closing at 8:30 pm. They are told with how slow the shuttle is they will not get there and they will be closed and have no cars. They have luggage, a car seat, a toddler and they have to yet get to the Hampton's. They are hysterical, as you can imagine. We, as her parents call the 800# on their confirmation for Advantage.
Paul is told their car was cancelled because they did not pick it up at their pickup time and there are no other cars and we have to email support@carrentals.com. He asks for a telephone number and they say they have no way to call Car Rentals. That they (Car Rentals) are our contact and they are only a subcontractor to Car Rentals and any complaints need to go to Car Rentals. We ask, how do they get us another car if we can't even call them? Paul asks them to transfer him to the local rental at LGA and he lets it ring for over twenty rings until it just stops. I then call the 800 # and ask how can they possibly cancel the car and I am told it was cancelled by accident. I then tell them that the car rental station that our daughter was transferred to said they closed at 8:30 pm and they had no more cars. Advantage tells me that the station cancelled the car. That they (the Advantage 800 #) can't cancel a car.
I ask to speak to a supervisor and I am told no one can do anything else for me. That even a supervisor has no way to cancel a car or to reach Car Rentals. That we need to email support@carrentals.com and they will give us a refund, but they have no way to get us another car. I tell them we don't want a refund. We want a car so they can drive to the Hampton's. We are told that they cannot help us. I can tell the person in the Call Center wants to tell me more, but stays quiet. I am sure it is hard to hear a mother cry because you have left her children stranded at LGA.
I again call back. I am on the house phone now where we are staying. The person I am talking to tells me that I am correct, that the reservation was cancelled in error, but they (the Advantage Call Center) can't fix it. They say that the station at LGA is open until 1 am. I ask, again, to be transferred there and I let the phone ring for an eternity. No one picks up the phone. We then call our daughter and she and her family get off the shuttle bus at Terminal A and they call for an Uber. They get on the Uber. They are quoted a rate of $400. Once on the freeway they notice the driver is driving erratically and the car smells. He is swerving around and driving past the speed limit. They ask him to slow down. Finally, they call Uber and they are told to ask the driver to stop the car and pull over at the next exit. They then have to get out of the car, wait with the toddler, luggage and car seat and wait for another Uber to pick them up.
They wait on the curb to flag down the new car. It is dark, cold and raining. They get to the Hampton's around 11 pm at night. Uber did not charge them for the first portion of the ride due to safety issues with the driver. They then had to use taxis in the Hampton's as our car would not fit the car seat and two other people. We then had to order a car to take them back to LGA because our car would not fit all of us. If my husband did the drive he would have given up five hours from the last day of our trip. We did not leave until 8:30 pm. They left at 8 am in the morning to get there for a noon flight. The car was $250.
Now, Advantage says Car Rentals is our contact. Car Rentals is blaming Advantage saying WE as their Client, need to supply Car Rentals with all this information with documentation. I kept telling them Advantage made the mistake and they needed to fix it while the family was still on the shuttle. All we heard was email support@carrentals.com. They knew immediately right away that the LGA station cancelled the car by mistake. Now they want me and my family to dig up all of this additional information to make their case with Advantage.
I don't have time for this **, but I sure as hell am not going to let a company that made such a unimaginable mistake not own up to it. We have had to supply Car Rentals with Uber receipts, car service receipts and now our phone records to show we actually called the 800 # and at what time. Obviously, since I took the time and came up with everything they asked of me, I am not lying. I am a super busy person, but Advantage messed up and they messed up with the wrong family.

We rented a car from Advantage through Expedia at the airport in Orlando and mentioned that we arrive at 7pm. We got a confirmation with pick-up time 10:30 am, thinking that this is correct because we pay for the whole day. When we arrived the person from Advantage just told us that our car was cancelled because we did not pick it up within 2 hours after pick-up time. In the confirmation was nothing written from this 2 hours limit and also not on the homepage from Advantage. We were left without car and had to get a car from an other company and that in the evening at Thanksgiving for a much higher price.
When I called later the customer service they just told me that it was my fault and hung up. I cannot recommend Advantage because of the lack of information for the car rental, also through a third party, and the very unfriendly customer service. People at the front desk and customer service were very unfriendly and not willing to help.

I rented a vehicle from the JFK location in New York and requested a car seat. The cost was $70 for a week. My primary complaint, aside from the poor and disorganized service at most of their locations, is that the car seat was stored in an old metal shed adjacent to the location where they clean out the cars. This particular area was a real mess due to the nature of the work being done there. There were garbage cans overflowing at each car service area (4 in total I believe) and with this mess comes not just paper but food and soft drink spillage. As mentioned earlier the 'storage' shed for the car seats is adjacent to this area. It struck me that the shed, with all of its various car seats simply thrown in there was a prime location for vermin to frequent. The seat we received did have food remnants on it.
Additionally, the car seat was in such poor condition that we almost refused it but did not want to endanger our child even on what could have been a short trip to a retail store to purchase a new one. It took us 20 minutes to clean and unravel the belts and seat cover - no one there offered to help. We had to 'rig' the belts to fasten them so the seat would not tip forward in a sudden stop. Unacceptable conditions for something the public relies upon for their children. First, there should be a law and policing for the proper condition of child seats provided by any rental agency and second, there should be some oversight by the health department as to the storage and cleanliness of child seats. Shame on you Advantage and shame on you New York State - the fees and taxes you charge should guarantee cleanliness and safety.

Tired from a 20 hours fly, I finally accepted to change all conditions of the reservation: limited mileage where the reservation specify unlimited mileage. Agreed and signed for 200 Dollars rental deposit and I found he charged another 150 for eventual road violations!! To be refund in 21 days after rental end. He put time to return earlier than the time of rental and finally the car had virtually no rubber left on the tires making it extremely dangerous to drive. As a good note must say that the Advantage agent in the parking lot promptly and kindly change the car with a better one, dirty but in good conditions.

I rented a vehicle in Boston Massachusetts Logan airport. On my way the airport to return the vehicle I used my Apple iPad as my GPS to take me to their location. As I was in a rush I left the iPad in the vehicle on the passenger side on the floor. For those who do not know this Airport, You have to catch a shuttle bus to drop you at the terminals, which is 3 to 5 minutes depends. As I was reaching the TSA I proceeded to removed my electronics, I realized that the iPad was left in the vehicle. I immediately called the ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR. No one pick up the phone. I immediately downloaded an app on my phone using Boston phone number, they picked the phone. Once I attempted to inform them that I left my iPad in the vehicle the call dropped. I called them back more than 25 times. They never pick up the phone.
Two days after trying over and over to get hold on them, a local agent in Orlando answered the phone. She stated that she will contact the Logan airport and she would call me back. They call 5 hours later to inform me that my iPad was not found. However I handed the car key to one of their employee who I believe removed my iPad. It is lamentable to see that I have filed a police report. This person who have my property will be prosecuted should my property be found.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT rent from this Advantage. First of all, when we got our rental car that day, the whole inside was soaking wet because they left the windows down during a thunderstorm. When we went back to request a new dry vehicle, we were told that this was the only one available and that it would "eventually dry out for us". NO apology. NOT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Secondly, they tack on a bunch of additional charges and refuse to explain them to you in detail initially when you rent the car.
I rented in Denver, and I really was not familiar with the area, with toll areas, etc. The employee helping me stated that I shouldn't run into tolls around where I was planning to drive, so I did not add the toll service coverage. Fast forward 5 months later (I rented a car in June, and it is now November) I noticed additional charges on my checking account from advantage in Denver. I called Advantage to speak with a representative regarding these charges, and the answer I received was "it appears that you went through a toll area and you did not have toll coverage".
I explained that the representative that set me up with the rental car in June had stated that I did not need toll coverage since I was staying in the Denver area. The representative on the phone stated that he was sorry that this occurred, but I should have inquired specifically where the toll areas were to begin with. I guess I should have asked for a road map of tolls??? I also was upset because this charge should have been added months ago, especially when I rented the car in June!!! Terrible company. Terrible customer service. Terrible contracts. Terrible cars. Advantage really DOES take FULL advantage of their customers. I will never rent from this company again. Beware!!!

I was told to keep my receipt/contract and when I returned my car at the airport to come and speak with a member of management about getting a refund for the difference. I have rented from Advantage Rent A Car several times. Every single time I have rented from them, I always have always had an issue with the tire pressure indicator coming on during the course of my rental. For the first time, I simply filled the tires with air, and the tire pressure indicator would come on and off. I returned the car and let them know of the issue. The second time I rented from them, the same issue with the tire pressure indicator steady on, but because of my first experience having to constantly fill the tires, I immediately went back to their office to switch out the car.
The third time I rented from them -- it was a terrifying experience. I was driving the rental car down the Tampa highway when all of a sudden the car started shaking and vibrating. The tire pressure indicator blinked on and off (more like flashing on and off). I immediately pulled to the side of the road to check the tires, but all four tires seemed ok. Then I went back onto the highway to get to the nearest exit, and less than a minute later, the front driver side tire blew out. I almost hit another car trying to swerve into the median. The tire was completely shredded. And I know for a fact that I did not run over any potholes, and I know I did not run over anything because I would have felt it (unless it was a nail, but I think the issue with the vibrating meant there was something wrong with the alignment).
I had to wait 1 hour (with my child in the car) for AAA to arrive and have the car towed to the nearest Advantage office, which was over 50 miles away. This is what I truly believe: Advantage does not maintain the tires on their rental cars. Maybe they even buy cheap used tires to replace the worn out ones. Maybe they even patch up the holes in their tires, hoping their customers will eat the bill for new ones so they don't have to pay. Also, they don't do a good job of cleaning their cars. I found a man's undergarment underneath the front passenger seat and Burger King wrappers stuffed in the glove compartment from the previous renters.
3 weeks later I get a bill from them demanding $107 to cover the tire replacement. I call Advantage and I tell them that they failed to maintain the tires and I was given a rental car with a faulty defective tire. They tell me I still have to pay them because the tire was damaged during my use of the car. They did not tell me this when I returned the car with the towing company witnessing. Also, when I filled out their incident report, they told me nothing about having to pay for the tire.
NEVER AGAIN. I am never renting from Advantage Rent A Car again. They put my life and my daughter's life in danger by failing to maintain their rental car tires. I have never ever had an issue with Hertz, Avis, or Budget in regards to renting cars. Only Advantage. Do yourself a favor and keep out of danger by not renting from Advantage Rent a Car. There is one thing I notice ---- Advantage Rent a Car does not have offices in any airports near me. I notice when I rent from car rental agencies in the airport, I don't have tire pressure problems with the rental cars. Maybe Advantage Rent a Car is offsite for a reason that I am unaware of. I do not trust this company. I can't be the only one who has experienced this with Advantage Rent A Car and I hope other people come forward as well.

Got to the LGA location 30 minutes before my reservation, place was packed and a lot of unhappy people. I was observing people getting turned down, I was surprised because these people had reservations.
When I got my turn, a good 45 minutes after my arrival at the place, this lady goes with an attitude "rental insurance?" I showed her my rental insurance bought, she turned around to the worker by her side they smile and then proceeds to tell me. "Your rental is cancelled, you need to own a car with insurance and use that insurance, company policy." I told her "sell me an insurance", the response was they do not do that. I said "I have a credit card," she said no. And then went "NEXT." I told her "hold on I have questions". She went with an attitude of shaking her head and waving with hands that I was not getting any car and I would get full refund and went like crazy... "NEXT NEXT". Very very disrespectful and unfriendly.

I rented an SUV through the Nashville airport for a family vacation. I picked up the vehicle around 9 pm the night before leaving on my trip. You never get the vehicle you sign up for... So I had a couple of choices and chose the larger SUV, a Kia Sorento. I had to cross two roads to a parking garage where I made my way to the 3rd booth and someone handed me keys through a small window for the car parked in stall #35! No one walked with me to the vehicle to inspect it. I left town at 8 am the next morning and after 3 hours into my drive, I heard a terrible noise that frightened me! My son-in-law said it sounded like a broken belt. So we exited the interstate to inspect the vehicle, afraid we might end up stranded. I had family about 45 miles further from us, so I asked them to wait on us since I wasn't sure what the problem was (but knew it was not a problem under the hood).
As I pulled into a gas station to meet them, they saw the driver's side underneath bumper was cracked and had been tied up with a plastic straw!!! It had broken loose and was flapping with the wind. I have time and date stamped pictures of the damage along with 6 witnesses. Since I knew there was no danger, we continued on our trip. When I returned the vehicle to Advantage at the Nashville airport, I told the attendant what had happened. She thanked me and I went on my way. More than SIX weeks later, I received a call from my car insurance agent asking me if everything was ok since there was a claim on my car and he hadn't heard from me. Come to find out, Advantage is filing a repair claim against my insurance company for damage I didn't cause!!! Apparently they don't know who did it since they don't seem to inspect their vehicles before and after rentals.
My insurance company will deny the claim since it is $950 and I have a $1000 deductible. Advantage never contacted me to ask any questions or let me know they were turning this claim over to my insurance company. I have tried to call and never reach a person. I emailed someone in the corporate office and never heard back from him. If they try to turn this claim over to collections I will file a lawsuit against them! When I went to the EZ counter no one was in and then someone finally came by and directed me to Advantage who I guess runs EZ. He asked if I wanted insurance. I told him "no". I was fully covered with Allstate. The agent put a hash mark on a check list and asked me to initial 7 or so blanks to waive insurance, It had been a long flight and all I wanted to do was get to hotel. I didn't take the time to read the fine print and just initialed as I was directed. Come to find out they have purposely hidden charges and unclear services in their contract. So rather than declining half the initials are accepting other services. Including a couple of different insurance options that I had told the agent I didn't want.
It was classic upsell with confusing forms and terms, dropped when the customer is vulnerable, And not even close to the bid I had purchased through Travelocity. It is set up in such a way I have to believe it is company policy not just this agent. The bill seemed higher than I remembered, but I was in a hurry. It wasn't till later when comparing to my original bid that they had added insurance charges including claiming the agents hash mark was my initials.
I tried to contact customer service. Complete joke. Kept getting "please hold a agent will be with you". Tried back multiple times same result. Finally decided to wait them out. Sat on hold for 1 hour and was disconnected by them. Left an email still no contact. Contacted Visa to dispute the charges, thought they might have better luck. He couldn't get through either and declined payment. Then they replied only to claim the agents mark was my initials. End result Buyer Beware, don't believe what counter agent says to your face, read all small print and don't pay till they get it right. Realize what "Advantage" stands for. I would give them 1 star but the car itself and pick up and drop off staff did a good job.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN!!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY. IT WOULD COULD YOUR LIFE. You pay for what you get. I rented a vehicle and once I got on the road in a city I was unfamiliar with I could hardly go 40 miles an hour without the entire car shaking, and a thumping loud noise. I thought the whole front end was going to fall off. I've never experience this in my life!!! I was so scared of trucks were gonna run me over because I was afraid of pulling over before I could find a safe exit and not knowing where the heck I was getting off at. I was frightened and scared.
All the company compensated for was $30.00 off and an upgrade. The car I was upgraded to the tires sounded so loud at a high speed. Passengers had to yell loudly for me to hear them, no music on. Ridiculous. I did not read the review before, boy am I sorry. Never again. I'll pay a higher price for reliability, much more worth it. Back to Avis or Budget.

My rental experience was OK, until I got back. As is always the case, the car rental company charged an extra $200. This is OK. Unfortunately, when they "refunded" my $200, they actually charged my account $200. When I called, they said they refunded, and if it was charged instead, that was the fault of my bank, and there was nothing they could do. I called EXPEDIA, who arranged for the booking, and they didn't have any better luck. As of this writing, a $74 rental has cost me $474 plus over an hour on the phone.

Horrible experience with Advantage. They literally take advantage of people and avoid any responsibility for their lousy actions. I rented a car through carrentals.com with Advantage. On Sep 20 I was dropping my son for college in NY when I got to their facility. They didn't have any cars period for anyone who had made same type of reservation but still went ahead and charged us without offering any service. And I repeat I did not get a rent a car from Advantage, better said they did not have any car to offer that day. In order to cancel that transaction I would have to call carrentals.com whom customer service number is non-existent or very difficult to find.
As of today I haven't been able to contact carrentals.com and to correct charges I have dispute it through the credit card company. In my intent to correct this issue with Advantage I exhausted every possible option, front desk, customer service, claim department etc. The last person I spoke to mentioned the same excuse and even told me that if I wasn't capable of listening she would hang up on me. No refund for any reservation made with third parties (carrentals.com) regardless of customer using their services or not, they will charge no matter what and tried to get away with it. This is a "legal" scam and ripping off regular people doesn't make them a honest or good company to request service from. Advantage should not be servicing us.

I used Advantage Rent a Joke at LGA in NYC. Reservation was made over the phone, not once was I told that I would need my own liability insurance because I live within 65 miles of the location. Not one single person felt the need to advise us of this before setting up our reservation. It is not on their website, its not on their confirmation letter to you. So basically you are screwed once you get there. What I find ironic is that their location is conveniently shared with Thrifty and or Dollar rent a car. Which if you didn't know is affiliated with Advantage. Against my better judgement I decided to go with them since I did have liability insurance. I rented the car for one day. Just one day.
Because I was running late. on the day I was returning the car I decided to call customer service, spoke to Jasmine who told me on a RECORDED LINE that I would be charged one day rental fee if I bought the car after 3 hours from the original time of return. I did find that odd, so I asked her if what she was telling was that I had within 3 hours to return the car and I would NOT get charged. She said yes. Again I asked so I would be charged nothing if I bring the car within the 3 hours. She said Yes. Well that was a LIE. Upon getting to location I was charged 3 additional hours and that was because I was on the phone with a supervisor named Megan who said she heard the recording and she did hear Jasmine say I would get charged nothing... but that it was a mistake.
How about honoring what your employee stated to me on a recorded line? Why bother recording the conversation if you are not going to do anything? Megan's only suggestion was for me to call Customer Care the next day. I spoke to Edgar who kept telling me to read my contract. It's funny how he expected me to read my contract yet Jasmine doesn't know the terms of the establishment she works for. But that is okay. He did refund me one hour because he realized that the reason it went over three hours was because I was on the phone with Megan and she locked my profile so the lady behind the counter couldn't check me out. I asked the lady behind the desk for the local number, she gave me a number which no one picks up.
I accidentally left my EZ pass in the car, so I showed up at the location the very next day and first I was told the car was already rented. Then 20 minutes later she tells me there is nothing in the car. I know that EZ pass was in the car. Someone there took it. So not only are they liars, they also keep what they find in the cars. Customer service is pathetic, it's like no one cares. Not the people at the counter. Not the people who answer their toll free numbers. Do yourself a favor and do not rent from them. I regret not reading the reviews. Ended up paying over 300.00 for a car which I had to put my own liability insurance on. Very upset with the whole entire company! Don't believe try calling them yourself at 718-424-8504 or 718-651-7269. Those are numbers given to me and no one ever picks up the phone at the LGA counter.

I have been charged way too much money for renting a car for 4 days. I have arrived late in Denver due to a flight cancellation and still with a prorated rate, I ended up paying 345$ prepaid + 325$ after I returned a car. This is simply unacceptable, especially since I have only rented a car from Thursday to Sunday. First of all, I did NOT order a HUGE SUV. Only a regular car such as Toyota Corolla. However, due to 75 car shortage I have been forced to take a large SUV, Hyundai Santa Fe. Therefore I had to take out insurance on it, because I have never driven such a huge car, especially out of state. I wasn’t planning on taking out insurance as I have my own car insurance from CA, but I felt like I didn’t have a choice and it was too much to risk.
Secondly, I have been told that if I don’t take out toll pass for 39.99 I will be charged 25$ every time I have entered a toll! When I told that to my CO friends, they were shocked to hear that. It was hot and crowded at the location. I waited a long time in line and I have agreed on that in fear that I will drive on toll roads and will be charged so much money. Thirdly, I have chosen not to fill my tank for 39.76 and I returned the car with being close to empty and I still don’t know if I was charged extra for that or not. I only know that I was charged 325$ because of my credit card bill. To sum it up, I think it’s insane to charge someone 670$ for 4 day car rental!!!
This was a trip to visit my mother, who lives in Poland. She was visiting Colorado, so I just met her there and the price for the car has severely increased the cost of my few days trip. I have rented cars from many companies in many different cities, but I have never been charged so much money for it, especially that I did not want that big SUV and I didn't want to take out an insurance for it, since it wasn’t in my budget. That’s why I have reserved the car online and prepaid 345$ and did not anticipate those extra costs, not mentioning all the extra fees, such as 59.31$ concession fee, energy surcharge, taxes, etc, etc. I know that I have signed and agreed to the term. I am not stupid. However, I firmly believe that 670$ for a 4 day car rental is overly excessive and not fair. It left me a bad taste in my mouth and a hole in my wallet.
Lastly, I have been trying to connect with one of the representatives from lost and found, because I have left my sunglasses inside the car and no one is able to help me via phone or writing me back for the past few days. This is beyond frustrating and unacceptable. How hard is it to call back regarding left sunglasses?? They were over 150$ worth and I call everyday asking and they are clueless telling me it's hard to contact Denver "busy" location, but no one is ever calling me back!!! I am beyond disappointed and frustrated.

After the 4th time I called back I finally got an agent with some common sense and customer service training and she walked through the charges with me and offered her apology. Needless to say I will never rent from them again, no one should. The BBB needs to look into this company and Advantage needs to redevelop their customer service system.

Our check in went smoothly and the special I found allowed three drivers at the cost of one. When we checked out, two of the contracts charged for the extra drivers. When we tried to get it straightened out, we were able to get a refund on the two contracts that were charged extra and so, all-in-all, we got the excellent rate, great cars, issues resolved and a great trip. We phoned up Advantage that evening which took 3 hours to get to the right person as they kept on transferring our calls to one another. They agreed to send a new car the morning after, which they did. When the guy arrived, he insisted on taking the previous rental agreement and give us a new one.

We were about 25 miles from Denver and the molding around the windshield starting coming off and flapping on the window. We spent the next two hours driving around to the three Advantage locations listed in Colorado Springs on our map app. After finding none of them, we spent about 40 minutes on hold seeing how we could get this fixed. They told me we didn't have roadside assistance and we would be responsible for getting the vehicle back to Denver.
We then drove into the mountains and the brakes began going out, getting hot and grabbing. Again, we would have to pay for the towing back. When we switched drivers, I adjusted the seat but when we attempted to readjust the seat for my tall husband, it would not move. My husband could hardly get in the car. Advantage may be less expensive but next time I will gladly pay extra in order to get a well-maintained vehicle with a company that should I need to contact them with concerns, I would not be hung up on.
