Don't even think you have a chance to avoid this scam. It starts by getting on their bus at the airport (if it has not broken down). They take you some distance away off of Mannheim Blvd. There they present a contract with a lot of fine print. You ask for a car that is equipped for the EZ Tolls reader. They have an automatic opt out feature, so you are "agreeing" in the fine print to pay a $25 toll convenience fee per day. Toll charges $27 for three days, convenience fee $75 even though you ask for a toll reader and you allow it to read the tolls. When you get back the rate for the car is higher than you expect (double) and weeks later they have another charge on your credit card for the tolls (OK) plus the convenience fee (not OK). RIP OFF.

RATING IS ACTUALLY LESS THAN A 1 STAR, CAN IT BE A NEGATIVE 5! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. This company along with their sister company (E-Z RENT-A-CAR) is a total rip off! Here is my experience: 1. Given a car rental with bad brakes (unsafe), the car shook and vibrated terribly when brakes were applied when we left airport, upon returning to airport we had to pay I believe 2 tolls (maybe 4, I really can’t remember). 2. The second car we were given was a five seater instead of the 7 we had rented! Took time to correct. 3. We had left a small item in the first car, asked to get it, it was gone! Understand, E-Z Rent-A-Car was the only one in contact with the car; you come to your own conclusion.

    4. Took over 2 hours to get correct car and to leave the airport, missed dinner reservation, compensated all of $25, aren’t they considerate! 5. When windows needed sprayed off while driving, the car had no washer fluid!! When rear wipers needed turned on in the Florida monsoons, they did not work. 6. I did not pay the excessive cost for the tolls in advance. We were on a high way that went over a nature preserve (swamp) and without warning said there were tolls by plate ($.70 and $.70), they billed me $27.90! I could not have turned around at that point, there was no advance warning! 7. This occurred at the Orlando International Airport, but their reviews are consistent everywhere! Bad! STAY AWAY FROM THESE TWO COMPANIES! ADVANTAGE RENT-A-CAR, E-Z-RENT-A-CAR.

Rented a car on Priceline for 228.97 reserved at Denver Airport from Advantage Rental thru Priceline in June. They didn't have the style of car we rented. Gave wife something else and once on the road check engine light came on. Wife had to return the car hours later and were charged for "upgrade". Once home we get a bill from Advantage for 377.50 for a 3 day rental totaling $606.47. Guess there's a reason they call themselves "Advantage".

It was another 30 minutes before I was pulling out of the airport. If you want to spend your vacation standing in a rental car line, rent from Advantage. If you don't want to spend your vacation standing in a rental car line, go somewhere else.

I rented a car for a week via Travelocity and received a price of $291.95. The Rep and I went over the electronic contract at the counter and at the time I declined all Optional Offers. When I was ready to pay with my credit card the charges came up to $568.00. I questioned the amount right away but was told by the Rep that it was an additional hold for any late return and none fuel gas. I did not see a problem for that and accepted the hold. The car was returned in the condition as agreed but the money was not returned to me. I contacted Advantage and came to understand that what was told to me during the electronic signing was a misrepresentation of the wordings on the hard copy contract. She asked me if I wanted Insurance and I said "no".

I initialed on the electronic pad next to the heading that said, 'Collision and Damage Waiver.' To my surprise, I actually accepted a coverage. If you initial the area next to 'YOU ARE ACCEPTING CHARGES FOR A WAIVER' then it charges you... Also 'Roadside Assistance' the same for initialing next to the area. So for Advantage, they deceive you by using the heading stating 'Waiver' but if you do initial it means you are agreeing to charges for a Waiver. The Reps are misrepresenting the product to the customer before they can verify the contract. Several customers have complained about the same issue in several states and may need to have someone look into these cases and give feedback. I have all my paperwork.

I believe a better name would be “TAKE” Advantage… as in take advantage of your customers!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND using Advantage. Pay the extra for a reputable car rental company like National or Hertz. In the end it would have cost me much less. As reference, I have rented from National and Hertz for business and personal travel many times without any issue like this.

I’ve made two calls to Advantage, called the Highway Toll Administration company, and had to get my own receipt for toll charges. Funny how easily they could email a receipt for the rental, but then just slipped the toll charges onto my credit card and sent no notification or receipt. No integrity!!! Advantage said there is nothing they can do at this point.

Initial experience of renting from Advantage (in Denver) was good, but the billing and price gouging for admin fees has rendered this experience as a failure. I am still in disbelief that toll admin fees were higher than the cost of renting the car for two days! Advantage charges (gouges) customers $25 per day in admin fees for tolls if you fail to add on the EZTOL option. Compare that to other companies charging $3-$5 per day. I found out AFTER the fact, that I if I had used the EZTOL option it would be $9.99 per day and covers all tolls. So for my two day rental, the real cost is $20, but they charged me over $75.

I don’t have a problem paying tolls, or a reasonable admin fee. But $25 per day is ridiculous. I would not be surprised to find out Advantage assesses their station performance based on how many add on fees they can charge, seems like customer retention might be a better measure of success. Integrity is obviously not part of the Advantage mission statement! You can quote that on your web page under what customers are saying about us! Your web page says “No excuses, no surprises.”

Well, not in my case. 10 Days after the rental, SURPRISE, driving on a toll road is a “violation” and costs $25 per day. SURPRISE, we charged your credit card and never notified you. I was surprised to find out that Advantage expects a typical driver to know that driving their car on a toll road is a violation. I guess they should clearly define violation for me. In the same section of the contract listing the cost of a toll violation it lists an admin charge for moving violation, citation, or parking ticket. So Advantage considers driving on a toll road equivalent to breaking the law? And you expect your customers to know this? I DO NOT RECOMMEND renting from Advantage. I do recommend National, Hertz, and have also rented from Enterprise and Avis a few times with no issues as well.

This is a sleazy co. I had a contract for a Jeep for $271, they said I needed a passport to get it even though I live in the US. The told the lady next to me they didn't have the car for her, and they told the guy he was a half hour late (his flight was late) and it voided the contract. For all of us, they tried to increase the price by sixfold. My $271 went to $1200. I was starting a family vacation. The woman had a meeting in a half hour, but they think it's funny to hear how they are screwing up all the customers' trips. I'm going to report this to my credit card company to remove the exorbitant charge and honor the original contract. I recommend you do the same. How many times can we allow these unscrupulous people to screw us all out of hundreds of dollars, yielding their millions?

There is a scam with tolls in Florida, especially the Orlando area. We rented a car for a week and received charges for tolls after we came back home. We called the company who sent us to Florida Tolls and they told us that there are now toll booths that do not take money and you need either or SunPass or opt in with the car rental company to pay a daily fee to cover any tolls that are charged to you at these toll areas with no cash option to pay. If you don't prepay the fee (which was never explained to us), then once you return the car, you will receive a bill with a $25 administrative fee.

I asked what happened if you did not use the funds that were prepaid and was told by Advantage that those prepaid funds would not be returned. I asked to have the administrative fee removed and was told that this customer service was third party and they could not remove the fee. I asked for a number at Advantage and was told they would just send us back to them. Therefore, be aware when renting a car from EZ or Advantage because that you will be scammed out of money from this rental car company.

I made this reservation after checking the prices from several rental agencies. I was surprised by how inexpensive the Advantage rental was. Sadly, now I know. I rented from their LaGuardia airport location and from the moment I landed, I dreaded my decision. When they finally arrived to pick me up, move that 25 minutes had passed. There were no other people waiting for their van. We went to their car lot and I was shocked by its appearance - only 4 cars on their lot, a great deal of barbed wire and a completely trashed looking building and pavement. Once I got their front desk, absolutely like a 3rd world country, they gave me a very dirty car that had both a tire and engine light illuminated.

I went back to their counter and complained about the car. They seem very familiar with customers walking away from their cars as they processed my rental cancellation in no time at all. I then called Enterprise who picked me up at Advantage. Enterprise too seemed very familiar with picking up dissatisfied Advantage customer. DO NOT RENT FROM ADVANTAGE - THEY ARE AWFUL!

I said repeatedly that I didn't want it and my company won't reimburse for it. The guy said it was "automatically included by Priceline so I'd already paid for it". Either way I still refused to initial acceptance. Return the car and was charged $50 for CDW. Asked customer service for a copy of the contract and lo and behold the line where you initial to accept CDW has my full signature. It was same signature from the bottom of the contract. Customer service called it "proof" that I accepted it and refused the refund. This is fraud. I am trying to dispute it, but I don't know what I can do if visa views the signature on the initial line as "proof".

TERRIBLE!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! You will be glad you did! We rented a Sienna van in Denver for a long weekend. To make matters worse, the next day after the vehicle having been parked in hot weather, it smelled like foul smelling shoes, vomit with a hint of vinegar. I tried calling for a discount assuming this is not the type of rental experience they expect. I rented a small SUV and got to the rental place and the attendant (while very nice) switched me to a larger SUV. It was fine at first, but in all the hubbub of activity, flying a red eye flight, no sleep, a line and wanting to get out to my destination, I felt rushed. Lorenzo explained there was a $200 authorization fee that would drop off the card (okay, I work in the industry and understand, great). I told him I needed supplemental, simple, daily insurance coverage as I didn't add it online. I remember seeing $15 a day or something. He added it, hurried through the paperwork and I signed it (thinking at least $200 was dropping off for an authorization). I spent the week finding trash in the car daily (it also smelled super musty when we got in) - we found a dirty coffee cup, gloves, ear plugs (like construction workers use), trash in the cup holders and door handles, and otherwise were super disappointed.

I came to return and the car started making an awful noise, which did eventually stop, but was worrisome. I asked the attendant when I returned if I should talk to a manager about the outrageous insurance that was DOUBLE the cost of the rental and the dirty car and he said they would tell the manager and to not worry about going inside. (Obviously I should have). I have now been calling for WEEKS, talked to customer service several times and had to re-open my ticket number because Denver responds to the main customer service line and then shuts down my ticket. I repeatedly had to bother customer service for the Denver contact information which they did give, but the voicemail was full. I kept calling and finally the Denver manager (Bryan) called me back. He listened, dismissed my issue with the insurance, and said he would refund $60 for the roadside assistance that I never asked for.

Never mind the $200+ collision insurance that was more than the car and that I NEVER asked for. I understand the coverage was in place for the duration of the rental, but I also know something can be done about it. Make the situation right. Take care of your customer and they turn into a lifelong customer. Dismiss their issues and make them feel like it is their fault, even though they felt rushed, confused and now frustrated at the lack of response, and you ruin them for the future. I would like this situation to be resolved and the bill to be discussed again. It is absolutely ridiculous to treat a customer this way.

We booked our car weeks before leaving on our trip to Denver International Airport. Our initial payment was $438.64, and included taxes and fees. Upon arrival, the salesperson at the desk recommended a car upgrade since we will be driving in mountains, which was fine. The upgrade added $61.10 to our bill. Then, the man asked whether we wanted full or partial coverage for the car (never mentioned that this coverage was optional). So, we said partial, and he added Collision Damage and Supplemental Liability, which added another $209.90. Also, he claimed that we would be running into many tolls on our trip, and sold us the E-Z Toll pass for $10 a day. However, we are not aware that we even passed through any tolls, so there goes another $49.95 on our bill.

Interesting enough, we ran into a couple on our trip, that used the same company. They paid $254, only had to put down a deposit, and got a free car upgrade and were told they did not need to carry any coverage on the car they rented. While I understand we are under 25, this only added $124.95. So, our bill should have been the $438.64 we paid online, however, our new total at the rental store came out to $827.47 which is absolutely crazy and we felt scammed. Something we are also not understanding is how the taxes and fees almost tripled as well. We already paid taxes and fees at the time of booking online.

On another note, the "inspection" process was even more shady. The man at the counter said to bypass the inspection at the gate because we were "fully covered" which is not what we chose. We got to our rental car, and noticed right away that the maintenance required light was on. We drove it to the inspection guy to ask about the light, and he had no idea why it was on, and sent us to the "mechanics" in the back of the lot. The man in the back looked and saw that the car has not had an oil change, but decided to just turn the light off and send us on our way. So, we drove it back to the guy at the front, and asked him to write down that the light was turned off, and he told us to do it and never signed the inspection paper.

Also, they did not walk around the car or note any existing scratches or dents. This was concerning on our drop-off because we noticed that when we brought the car back, men were inspection rentals that were departing. Overall, I feel as though we were completely scammed, and that all this company wanted was our money. We will never use this company again, and will make sure other will not either. If I would have known it was going to be over $800, I certainly would have never chosen this company. This car was more expensive than a round-trip flight for 2.

My experience with this company is going to contradict several of the reviews I have come across on this site. I rented a car at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Immediately, I was greeted with excellent and expeditious customer service. I was provided with a full size 2018 Kia Optima. (White in color - which was a nice touch considering the heat in Arizona!) Unlimited miles. The vehicle was in pristine condition, low mileage, and smelled like it was just driven off the lot. It was examined by staff prior to my departure and I had a full tank of gas.

Returning the vehicle was an equally speedy and painless experience, and after checking off the level of gas, and condition of vehicle, I signed a paper acknowledging the terms of the contract. I received my deposit of $200 in less than 24 hours without incident. All I can say is review the contract terms, be confident in what it is you are looking for with your rental experience, and voice that. I would like to commend Tara for a job well done. This is the worst car rental company I have ever rented from. We rented a car for a long weekend in Denver, and the agent we worked with told us he would put us in a larger car for just a few dollars as a favor to us. We were really excited and really appreciative. When we got in the car the tank of gas was empty, but they’d told us at the counter that we didn’t have to fill it up when we returned it.

When we returned the car, they ended up charging us an extra $45 a day for the “free” upgrade, and then charged us $8.99 a gallon because we didn’t return it with a full tank of gas. Even though we’d received the car with an empty tank and they TOLD us not to fill it. So it seems they are charging customers for the gas ($8.99!) but then not actually even filling the tanks.

In short, it seems you can’t trust anything they tell you. They are going to charge you a lot for every little thing, even if they explicitly tell you they won’t. When we called customer service they were dismissive and condescending. They also have a message constantly playing trying to get you off the phone and just email them. They do not seem interested at all in customer service, and so if you have any problems with your rental, expect to be dismissed.

If you can avoid Advantage Rent-A-Car, by all means do it! I’ve had such terrible experiences with this company that I would never ever again rent a vehicle from them. I rented a vehicle yesterday on HotWire and found a cheap rate [$38.00 for 24 hours] from Advantage Rent-A-Car. I had to pay with my credit card immediately to obtain this low rate. I read the fine print. Saw that I had “unlimited mileage”. I had no reason to believe otherwise. I returned the vehicle this morning and was informed that I went over the mileage limit of 250 miles, therefore I was going to be charged an additional $30 for going over by about 30 miles. I was stunned as I had assumed no that I had unlimited miles (per terms and conditions listed on website when I booked the vehicle).

The Advantage agent informed me that if I were to have read the “local terms and conditions” I would have seen that I was allocated only 250 miles and did not have unlimited miles as I assumed. I explained to the agent that nowhere in the terms and conditions did it mention that I had only 250 miles allocated to me. The agent insisted that I should have located the exact terms and conditions and read them. I, again, explained to the agent that nowhere is this written anywhere in the T/C nor the contract. His reasoning for allowing me only 250 miles is because I reside in the same city where I rented the vehicle! This doesn’t make sense to me!

Anyhow, I had to call his supervisor to make sure they didn’t charge me the extra $30. I, also, discovered that I was being billed an additional $125.00 (refueling charges) although I returned vehicle with a full tank of fuel! By this time, I was beyond furious. I had to call the main Advantage Rent-A-Car to file a complaint and to get this additional refueling charge removed! It took me all day today to get the charges of $30 (extra mileage) fee and $135 (refueling fee) removed! It was a nightmare! Advantage sure does take ADVANTAGE of its customers!! Needless to say. Never again will I give them my business!

We felt as though we didn't have a choice because no one else was open that early and he said it was FL only thing. (There was another company but it was reservations only due to early AM). So we rent this car and while inspecting it I notice damage to the other cars around us. I tell my husband I'm not getting a good feeling. We are given a car and didn't really drive it much till the next day. Ha... it starts raining and I go to leave the hotel and can't even make it over a little hump. The tires have no traction.

Hubby gets out and what do you know... no tread! Front wheel drive car and completely BALD tires. SO know I'm trying to reach the staff because we need a safe car and I need the insurance removed because my insurance co. confirmed I had the correct insurance. We chased these people and got nowhere. They also didn't take the insurance off like requested. Ended up not driving the car because it rained the whole time. I get home and call my credit card company and this is where it gets interesting. The toll stuff... all true! They leave the transponder on to track you... it doesn’t matter if you pay. They send fake invoices. When I figured this out from online reviews (the rep at drop off made a broken English comment about the transponder that didn't sit well with me) I notified my CC immediately about everything.

My rep from the credit card company had to keep reminding the rep we were speaking to from the car rental place that she was being recorded. Thank God my CC did this. I kept asking why so many people are getting charges that no one can explain. Oh boy we got a doozy of an explanation. MY CC card rep was speechless when the rental car rep hung up. She says to me "It's all recorded". "I can't believe what I just heard. You were right". I did get a call back from another rep in Orlando and all I got was "well that is your opinion". NO the car tires were bald and I found out they put the car back on the road because they said there was not an issue. I lost it! I was like, "Are you kidding me right now. You could kill someone!" Also she denied me calling in and asked why we didn't discuss any of this with their reps when we dropped the car off. I'm like, "Excuse me. We did. That's why the lady took chalk and wrote on the car."

But they also acted like they didn't speak English. So I get my final bill and want an explanation. Right. The reps just stared at me and shook their heads implying they don't understand. Anyways, have my CC company filing a fraud claim. Unbelievable all around! I did some research and apparently this is an ongoing issue. Wow! Time for some emails to be going out to some officials. Don't be fooled if you don't see Advantage's name in the news articles or legal settlements. These guys operate under various names and parent companies.

I had not heard of Advantage Rent A Car before but the deal I found online was the best one, so I thought I would give it a shot. Boy do I regret that. We rented the car for our trip to Las Vegas. We were flying in from Canada and staying for 8 days. The trouble started when we arrived at the car rental agency. In Vegas all the rental agencies are located in a building a short trip from the airport. You can take a shuttle there. Well when we got there all the other agencies were running smoothly and quickly. But not Advantage. There was a huge line and it was barely moving. After an hour of waiting in line with my infant daughter and husband we finally made it to the front.

Only to find out that the car size we wanted would not work? And we were informed we needed to upgrade? I was not happy about this and indicated so but they said they could not let us fit in a smaller car and that they would be happy to upgrade us with the special offer of only $10 more a day. Well I had already paid $184.50 for the car and knew I was to pay an additional fee of $109.28 Canadian when picking up the car. I was furious but didn't know what other choice I had at the time as we were all exhausted and I had already paid a fee when booking. Well after the upgrade I had to pay an additional $322.09 Canadian. My total for a 8 day rental (they charged me for 8 days even though I had it back to the garage by 9 am on the 8th day and didn't get the rental until almost 4 on the first day), was $431.37.

That is $53.92 a day in Canadian, which is around $41.78 per day US. The rental car was a Toyota Camry. Stay away from this place. You can easily find something much cheaper and with much better service. They put a family in a very hard position and I know for a fact we were not the only ones as there was a family beside us going through the same thing. My heart went out to them as I could tell they could not afford the extra expense any more than we could. They will rip you off when they know you don't have any options and are too exhausted to figure something else out. Note this rate does not include any of the insurance protection. It was for just the rental alone.

Rented a car in March 2018 at DCA to drive to an event in Herndon, Virginia. I was offered an optional toll plan for $20, but declined. I told the clerk that I would only be using the Dulles Toll Rd for one day, that I would pay my tolls in cash. He agreed that it was not necessary. Little did I know, nor was I informed that declining the service triggered special provisions in the contract, that I agreed to NOT use any automated, manned or unmanned toll roads in the area or be subject to those tolls, plus admin fees of up to $100 per day! I paid my tolls in cash only to find a $53.50 charge being billed to my credit card a month later. After hours on the phone calling Advantage customer care, VADOT and EzPass in VA, I found out (from a lady at EzPass) that a transponder will be read and charged for tolls, even if you pay them in cash, UNLESS IT IS WRAPPED IN TIN FOIL!

Advantage has charged me 2 tolls, even though I paid them of $1.00 and $3.50. Then for each toll, there is a $25 admin fee, so total of $53.50. They refuse to reverse any part of these charges and referred me back to my signed contract that allows them to gouge me. I was not informed by the rental clerk of the ramifications of not opting into the extra $20 toll transponder service, nor to wrap it in tin foil if I was going to pay my own tolls, even after I informed him at the counter that I would be using the toll roads, but paying cash as I went.

This is obviously a scam that Advantage will gladly exercise on any of its unwitting customers to gouge it customers for probably hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I would advise anyone seeking a reasonable car rental to steer clear and RUN from Advantage. A seemingly good deal will end up costing more in the long run! FINAL NOTE - Luckily I checked over the vehicle for damage. There was a big scratch on the bumper and I made them note it. If not, I'm sure they would have tried to charge me for damage!

They give a toll free number to call and the person said we would have to wait 48 hours to learn anything. So, 48 hours goes by, I called, it was a Sunday. Then the person said I had to call on weekday. So, I called on the weekday and even though I had a "ticket" number for my lost they said it couldn't be found. I requested to speak to the agency on location directly and the person said they didn't have their number!!! I was incredulous and ask, "You mean you are Advantage Rental Car Agency and you don't have any way of contacting your companies???" I was then put on hold for a great length of time and finally had to hang up!!!

Fraudulent Rental Agreement at Denver International Airport: The entire experience was a nightmare -- started with a 30 min wait for the shuttle; next was an attendant that purposely wrote-up a fraudulent agreement with the incorrect return date so I would be charged for an extra day at twice the daily rate; when I asked why the open amount on my card was so much higher than expected, he said a deposit of $200 was required and that it would be refunded upon returning the vehicle -- the deposit was never charged and in retrospect it was clear this was done to allow the various overcharges; same attendant lied to my face stating that I needed to initial the agreement to DECLINE insurance as I had requested, when in fact the agreement stated that by initialing, I was ACCEPTING insurance.

Further, the attendant made no mention whatsoever of EZTOL (the electronic toll system in the Denver area) or that I was declining the EZTOL service and that by doing so I would incur a daily "administrative" charge of $25 for toll violations. Next, when I left the rental building to get the vehicle there was an angry, confrontational lot attendant that refused to initial a vehicle inspection. Lastly, upon returning the vehicle, the attendant didn't give me a receipt saying his machine was out of paper. Totally unacceptable business practices. Will never use Advantage again.

I have traveled a good amount in my 55 years and rented numerous cars. This is the 1st time I have felt compelled to share a negative experience- in fact I can't think of a single rental prior that was negative. Here's the list of what was wrong: Stand in line for 1 hour ++ to get to counter. Rental Record Agreement conveniently omits the year of car reserved and the agent conveniently fails to mention the year of car reserved. Rental Kiosk employees (where customers actually pick up their rental) tell customer to go check out the vehicle visually and report any damage on a carbon form they find but the employee remains at the Kiosk and does not verify any defects in the car.

Our reserved car was a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (with 39056 miles, a reported and noticeable: dent in the hood, chipping and fading paint on the trunk and numerous stains on the interior seats and carpeting. The A/C was intermittent warm or cool for the entire 2+ day rental in Phoenix (May 7-9,2018) in 102°F-108°F temps. On the morning of our rental return I had to put air in a low tire (left rear was 26 psi). Customer service number on the Rental Record is merely a "call center" where they log your complaint and tell you a manager at the rental location will return your call which never happens. When you return the car at the Rental Kiosk you are given a phone number to supposedly talk to a manager at the Advantage Car Rental office at Phoenix Airport but really the number is a corporate number that no one answers and there is no voicemail capability.

If you go back upstairs to the Advantage Rental Car Counter you have to wait in line again 1 HOUR ++. The agent at the counter confides in you that yes ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR saves money by holding onto and renting OLDER CARS WITH HIGH MILEAGE. Maintenance and service of their vehicles is insufficient. I believe our rental was in need of a A/C recharge which would explain the intermittent warm/cool A/C but never COLD. I also believe that some of the AGENTS, KIOSK EMPLOYEES, AND CORPORATE EMPLOYEES knowingly are renting some vehicles that are older with high mileage that may or may not have defects and may or may not have been adequately maintained and serviced before put back in service for rental.

I will definitely remember this bad experience and tell everyone in my circle of influence to steer clear (pun intended) of doing business with ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR, FOX RENT A CAR, EZ RENT A CAR or any other name this pathetically managed and operated business chooses to call itself. By the way, I went on the Advantage Rent a Car website and typed in a complaint and hit send and I got an immediate message on the screen "Unable to Send Message, Try Again Later"---what a joke. Their entire corporate model/business plan appears to be to offer no real customer service or avenue of discourse about their poor service.

I have rented from multiple rental agencies with very positive results. Advantage was the rental from hell. I arrived to Phoenix at 10:00 pm. I waited in line for over an hour. The rental agent was rude. He insulted me for reserving an economy car, stating "Why would you ever rent that?". He then reported they did not have any economy or compact cars. He tried to give me a minivan even though I was traveling by myself with one carry on bag. I told him I was going to contact another rental company.

Miraculously an economy car suddenly became available. He also told me an economy car would not make the 2 hour journey from Phoenix to Sedona. I knew this to be false as I grew up near Sedona and drove a Ford Fiesta. He then said it's different when you own the car. I then had to stand in another line upon entering the garage to get the keys and paperwork.

Upon returning the car, the employee sent me to the desk in the garage for check out. There was a line of 10 people to get a receipt. Finally the man that received my car told me he would email my receipt so that I could get to my flight. He emailed me my receipt, but had charged me over $150.00 in fuel charges, even though I returned the car with a full gas tank. My total charges were suppose to be $60.00 and instead were over $200.00. I am currently disputing the charge with my credit card company. Never rent from this company. Do not be fooled by their low prices. They are dishonest. I would happily pay $100.00 more to rent from any other rental company. Advantage is a true Disadvantage!

The counter attendant was as helpful as she could be given the circumstances (e.g., only one car available, car cleaner had not gotten to work yet). When we arrived to the airport, we were waiting at the common rental car shuttle area before we were told we had to go to a different area and look for a WallyPark shuttle. This information was not listed anywhere in our reservation. After waiting a long time for the shuttle, at least 25 additional minutes in the new location, we were dropped off at a small lot with a trailer. The trailer housed the small customer service counter. The customer service representative was very professional. We reserved an economy rental car for the weekend, but were told the only "clean" car available was a minivan.

We were offered the opportunity to wait for a different car, but it needed to be cleaned. The person responsible for cleaning the cars had not arrived to work as scheduled. The customer service representative was not sure when he'd arrive, so this left us feeling as if our only option was to take the minivan. The minivan was not clean inside or out. There was even trash left in the driver side passenger door clearly visible from the passenger side front seat (fast food cup w/straw and food wrapper). The interior was also not wiped down nor vacuumed. Upon returning the car, directions were not clear as to how to return the car. We spent at least 15 minutes figuring out we needed to get an entrance ticket to WallyPark, park the car near the trailer and give the key to the WallyPark shuttle driver. It was a mess!!! We will never rent from Advantage again, NEVER!!!

In summary: 1. Clear instructions available on where to catch "WallyPark" Shuttle (shuttle pickup was not in common rental car shuttle pickup area). 2. Having the car we reserved available. 3. Having clean cars available (car had visible trash and had not been vacuumed/wiped down, exterior also filthy). 4. Clear instructions on how to return the vehicle (the written instructions we had were unclear).

My original estimated rental cost was well under $500, but now in total I have been billed a total of $832.28. I was not made aware that there was a $25 service charge per toll, I would have paid my own money through the tolls if they were going to be that expensive, $164 in tolls??? I was also not made aware of the cost for the collision waiver, I have my own full car insurance, why would I pay over $200 additionally?

I told the CS Rep that I have my own insurance and would not need the additional waiver, so he told me to sign the pad. They have literally stolen from me by hiding little details in the contract but not communicating those charges at the time of checking the car out. I have not heard back from several attempts to reach someone at this horrible company. Seriously read all of the reviews, how has this company not been sued, fined, or shut down?? Told to come back tomorrow to exchange car when more available. After driving car to hotel (20 miles away) experienced unsafe driving due to front wheel being out of round.

Third: Next day, call Customer Service to arrange car exchange. 45 minute wait to reach customer service which multiple recording messages to email them and wait 24 hours for reply. What kind of CS is that? (Oh yeah, one that is grossly understaffed). Reach CS agent who indicates it is not possible to hold a replacement convertible for me at Maui rental agency. So now it's on me to take two hours and drive 40 miles R/T to return a defective car and HOPE another is on the lot.

Fourth: Good news...a beautiful 2018 Camaro is there and the car is swapped out. This part went very well. Fifth: Return the car with full tank and receive an email invoice with a $139 fuel charge on it even though the invoice indicates tank was full upon return. Sixth: Attempt to reach CS again at 9 am EDT and get a recording their hours are from 8 am EDT - midnight. Hmmm, I think 9 am is between those times. Call back and ask for reservations who ends up creating an incident and give me a case number. Seventh: Incorrect charge posts to my credit card to I have to call Chase to put a hold on payment due to their incompetence. I can forgive one or two screw ups but this was 7 in a row. We opted out of the "additional" insurance coverage because we didn't need it. Dropped my daughter off at the airport to pick up her rental. I drove back home, when I arrived my daughter called stated that they would charge her more for the additional coverage. I told her, "NO. We don't need it. We are covered," she then tells me that they want to see proof of our insurance!!! I had to drive back to the airport, park in short term parking and get up to the Advantage Counter. Only to be greeted by an unprofessional women who had the nerve to take my insurance policy and enter it into their system.

When I told her not to do that she said it was just their policy. Then proceed to tell us that there is a 250 mile limitation on the rental. Because Locals get charged additional mileage unless you are traveling into San Antonio then you don't have the limitation... You get unlimited. Then she proceeded to tell me that many locals don't even return the cars and that's been a problem and Advantage Rent a Car is going to start making it very, very hard to rent cars from them. I told her that when we booked this online it stated "unlimited mileage" and asked her "what other under hidden surprises do you have???" She smirked as if all this was funny!

After she asked us five different times about their insurance coverage and waiving it. I finally told her... "Do not ask us that again! We have full coverage and we don't want your coverage." When the deposit amount was presented ($200.00) I said "what choice do we have!" When I said that, she then said "you know what? I don't like your tone! And I'm not going to rent to you." So, she cancelled our rental. We walked to another counter and thank God there are still professionals. The young man greeted us, was calm and helped us immediately. Less than 10 minutes and we were good to go out the door! Less Deposit, no requirement to see our Insurance Card, no hassle about taking out their insurance coverage, no limited mileage, no crappy service. RUN don't walk.

We had, and paid for a reservation, but when we got to the place they wanted an extra $200.00! No mention of that in the website, no warning whatsoever. They also said they only would take it by a credit card, and not a debit card. My wife offered her credit card, but they would not accept it. They said since I reserved the car, only I could pay it. BUT I PAID IT USING MY WIFE'S CARD... AND SHE WAS THERE WITH ME, AND HAD THE CARD AND HER ID WITH HER. They ALSO said the extra $200 was a rule "for locals." Didn't know we Las Vegas residents are the target of discrimination by Advantage. (Or maybe because we are ** and Latino?) Too bad they didn't realize my wife is a lawyer and knows our rights. We asked for the manager, and got told they could do nothing and we would get no refund or exchange.

The manager's name was Nina, and she is incompetent and lacking in professionalism. Avoid this place at all costs! They ALSO said that ALL the rental car companies do the same thing (the $200 and refusing a debit card or insisting that the person who reserved the car has to be the one to pay this fee, EVEN when the car itself was PAID FOR by the person who is offering to pay the $200 IN PERSON). But they lied. We went right over to Alamo. We rented a car WITHOUT the $200.00 extra (not that we would have minded-we just wanted to use EITHER my debit card OR my wife's credit card, which we used to PRE-PAY for the car) They did not discriminate against minorities or people from Clark County.

There was no sketchy dance by the Alamo customer service agent. (And the vehicle we got, a SUV, was even cheaper than the regular car we had paid for at Advantage--go figure!) There is a reason that Alamo has 4 stars on Yelp, and Advantage has 2. (And the only positive reviews, they probably pay for or encourage in some way).

Instead, they defrauded me and actually charged $239.74 more than my original reservation. The counter agent lied straight to my face multiple times about these amounts. They double charged for the taxes. After calling their location for more than a week to seek assistance, never actually reaching an agent at the Advantage location at the Denver Airport, after leaving several voicemail messages at their location, with absolutely no reply, I filed a dispute with the credit card company. The problem is, the contract shows their invalid amount... I RECOMMEND NEVER RENTING FROM ADVANTAGE OR E-Z RENT A CAR.

I rented a car through Priceline with my plane tickets. Arrived at the Advantage rental office at DIA at about 9:30 pm. It took almost 2 hours to get to the front of the line to pick up my prepaid car. There were that many people in line and only 2 people working and those 2 kept walking off to do other things. After getting the car we got on the road for our hour long drive to our destination.

The following day it started to snow while we were driving on the freeway, the windshield wipers on the driver side were nonoperative and so I could not see where I was going. Very scary. After getting back to the house I tried calling customer service and could only call a generic 800 number, the individual on the line who answered did not speak fluent English and I had difficulty getting the point across that I needed a replacement car delivered to me. This person could not reach anyone at the DIA office and told me they would send an email to ask them to contact me. I spent the next 4 hours continually calling their 800 number trying to reach someone but was unsuccessful.

The next day I had to get a car that I could drive, so I took a chance and drove back out to DIA to return the car. I was angry that I was forced to drive in unsafe conditions without wipers on the freeway to get the car back because there was no way to reach them by phone. When I arrived, about 10 am, I found 6+ people working, nobody in line and no customers to be seen anywhere. Apparently they overstaff when there are no reservations, and understaff when they know they have large number of reservations. I expressed my anger about being forced to drive there to return a broken car, while doing so, another employee salesperson, hearing my rant said to another co-worker "Geez, what an **." I turned to him and asked him how he would like to have to drive on the freeway in these conditions in one of their cars and he waved me off as an annoyance.

I eventually got a replacement car, but had lost half the day of my vacation doing so, plus the prior day not being able to drive anywhere or do the things that needed to be done because of the car. Extremely dangerous and poor service and quality of vehicle. They were completely unconcerned for my or my family's wellbeing of the fact that my life was in danger while driving their vehicle. Stay away from these people.

I asked for a refund but was told if I read the fine print I would see that I was not only not allowed to rent that vehicle I was also not allowed a refund but if I wanted I could pay for another vehicle. I stated there was no fine print when I rented from carrentals.com but they said that was my fault for not asking them for it. Carrentals.com would also not support my complaint. Also the person that was renting in front of me was told a blatant lie in that out of state insurance would not cover in California and therefore by law they had to purchase the extended insurance coverage on the vehicle. I have rented hundreds of cars before and never seen one that was such a scam.

I had returned to the rental counter for help after having trouble with what I thought was the car I rented in the parking lot. Neither one offered to get off their butts and to go out to the car and check it out. I was left in tears and to fend for myself until another agent (Kameron) helped me and resolved the issue. So right after I booked my reservation on carrentals.com I cancelled within an hour but they tried to charge me a fee of $50 for canceling within that hour of my booking. Not only did they try to charge me for this fee but when I booked my reservation it asked me whether I wanted insurance on the SUV but I was renting and I check the box yes once. It took me to the page to make the payment and I went ahead and paid for the rental and then they checked me out to a confirmation page which did not include the insurance that I checked yes for. So no matter what I had to cancel this reservation because they lied to me stating that I had insurance and then after when I made the payment there was no insurance added.

I called the company up and asked them why didn’t they add insurance and that I wanted to cancel because of that situation and that’s when they went ahead and tried to charge me $50 to cancel for their mistakes. It’s not about trying, they did charge me $50 and took it out of my credit card and until this day I’m still fighting for that money back and today is March 27, 2018 so it’s been a few months now and they are still trying to take $50 out of my account. I have to call my bank every single time they try to take it out. This is a disgusting company and very dishonest. I did have a pending charge placed on my card in the identical amount of my rental fee paid to Priceline. That seemed odd as I expected a round number. The agent at check-in said that it did seem odd but assured me it was just a temporary charge like I expected. Upon returning the car (no issues or extra charges of any kind), the temporary charge became an actual charge... meaning Priceline and Advantage both charged me for the rental car.

I called Advantage, who claimed that Priceline never sent them payment so they had the right to charge me as well. I spoke with 7 different people at Priceline over the course of several weeks who all said that the payment was indeed sent and there was no reason for Advantage to charge me. Priceline, to their credit, tried getting in touch of Advantage (over the phone and through email) but has never heard back... ever. Also, I waited 3 hours in line to get the rental car that I ended up paying double for. Worst rental car experience I've ever had.

I travel to El Paso each and every month for work and this is the absolute last time I ever rent from your company. I have never been treated with such disrespect. Absolutely the last time I ever rent from your Airport location. The reps are crooked and lie in order to upsell you. I made my reservation (**) online and when I went to pick up my vehicle at 1130am on 3/10/2018 they told me that because the type of vehicle I reserved wasn't available they were going to have to charge me an additional fee to put me in a different vehicle. (That's complete **.) Typically if a rental car doesn't have your vehicle they upgrade you as a courtesy especially since I wasn't requesting an upgrade!!!

I explained this to the attendant. I already prepaid the car and since I'm not requesting an upgrade I shouldn't be charged any additional fee, but he was adamant that he was going to charge me an extra fee, if wanted a car. I told him I come to El Paso every month and this has never happened. But he didn't budge and said if I want a car he was going to charge me extra or I could wait a few hours and see if my type of car arrives or cancel!!! WTH kinda options are those??? (I know that these and any upgrade, gas, insurance is commission to the counter.) I was disgusted, I told him to cancel my reservation, and he told me I would have to call the online site I reserved it through.

I walked away and called the online number that's listed for questions or cancellation and THAT REP answered!!! I went back to the counter and told him I was the one that just called!!! He smirked and cancelled my reservation and refunded me the charge. SMH. I went to a different agency got a car with no issue!! So disgusted.

Deceptive Business Practice: Picked up a car at the airport. Was offered an option of an E-ZPass, but not at a per toll rate but at a very expensive per day rate. The only option was to not take it, or pay a high rate for every day of the rental. Not being from the area, (but familiar with East Coast tolls) I talked in detail about my planned travels and use of tolls. We (counter agent and I) agreed that the E-ZPass just did not make sense for my travel plans.

Turns out New Jersey has tolls where there are no toll booths. Photo of license plate gets back to rental agency, who bills back the customer. We never discussed the fact these toll booth-less sites were common. The shocker is that Advantage charges a $25 administration fee for each transaction! They surprise billed me $75. The counter person had to have known this and never informed me. Very profitable for them. Probably trying to spite me for not choosing their overpriced E-ZPass Option. I highly recommend you avoid a company who is in the business of servicing out of town customers by no sharing (to their profit) relevant local information.

We rented a van in Orlando & dealt with a very nice guy at the counter. He asked us if we wanted to upgrade & he told us the differences in the vans so we trusted him & upgraded (ended up being $115 more than original). When we left we went through a toll, paid, then when we got to the booth the toll workers said we do not need to stop and pay, that our vehicle had a pass & the rental company would add it to our charges. I checked online & it said Advantage has a program that automatically charges you and you don't need to enroll, so we continued on our way.

Returning the car was great. Everyone was pleasant & helpful. Now 1 month later I get a charge for $190! I sat on hold over an hour 2 different times only to be told they have no record of us & hung up on me! I'm trying to get someone to work with us but it looks like they hid something about the tolls in very fine print & we are just screwed out of $200. I had already recommended them to friends & family because I thought it was such a great experience & now I am making sure they all do not use this company! Very disappointed.

The other rental car companies had multiple buses running. After we got picked up we were told that there was a "Traction Law" in effect. The customer service agent gave us a 4-wheel drive car. Told is it would be no additional cost for 4 days. The first car we were given (Rav-4) had the passenger door handle break off when we tried opening the door. As such, were then given a second car, which ran out of wiper fluid on the drive up into the mountains at 10:30 at night while it was snowing. We were driving Interstate 70W. The mud that was kicked up from the road onto the windshield made it near impossible to see and the wiper fluid ran out. There were no gas stations on Loveland Pass where we could get replacement fluids. Very dangerous drive without wiper fluids.

We returned the car after 4 days and were charged an additional $400 (double the price we booked online) for the car that was supposed to be provided due to the Traction Law. Customer Service did not indicate there would be a charge of this amount and when we disputed the charge it was claimed that we did not read the contract. Denver management has refused to take my calls to discuss my frustration and refused to refund the $400. I won't use this rental car location again and neither should you.

Barely made it on the freeway just to be told that they now have a car for us. We returned and started the paperwork. We were asked whether we needed insurance, I declined because we have cover through our travel insurance at which they told us that we still needed to purchase a compulsory insurance in Florida for approx $200 (we've rented after from reputable companies... and none have charged us for the 'compulsory insurance').

We were also told that they will need a deposit from the CC for approx $250 and that would be returned after the rental. We've returned to Australia and still waiting on that money. When we contacted them we were told that it could take up to 30 days for reimbursement. We were upgraded to an SUV at no cost (according to the agent, but in saying that is the same agent that charged us the compulsory insurance) so who knows what else will come out of our CC. I wish there was minus stars to be able to rate this company. I wish I could rate this place 0 stars. I also wish I had read the reviews first, and not just chosen the best rate. I booked the reservation for this car in September 2017. After journeying from Denver on 1/4/2018, I got in line at the rental counter. There were 3 agents and 5 or 6 customers in front of me. After a bit of a wait, 4 more agents appeared and started helping. Despite this, it still took 30 minutes to reach the counter. Once I did reach the counter, the check-out process started moving quickly, but came to a screeching halt when our agent (or the one next to us) couldn't seem to get ahold of "base" or a manager on the phone. Both myself and the party next to me had reservations for minivans, and the agents could not seem to "find" one.

After close to 30 frustrating minutes of absolutely nothing happening, the agent helping me grabbed her purse and walked off - presumably at the end of her shift - without so much as a word to me about what was happening. She was replaced by a man who seemed to need a bit to get his bearings. We were finally sent out to the garage with a reservation for a Hyundai Elantra, with the promise that it was a placeholder, and that the kiosk in the garage would sort us out. Once we got to the garage, I realized that the lady in the kiosk had no idea what was going on. She couldn't figure out why we had a sedan on our reservation, when we originally requested a minivan.

She also could not get ahold of "base" or a manager to find us a minivan. We spent at least another 30 frustrating minutes outside waiting for SOMEONE to figure out what was going on. Mind you, our van was sitting five parking spaces down from the kiosk the entire time we were out there. Also, it was unusually cold in Orlando that week, and was in the mid-30 degrees while we waited outside in the garage, with two tired toddlers. After this hour-and-a-half ordeal, to rent a car I booked FOUR MONTHS in advance, I didn't think I could be more displeased with Advantage.

All in all, the van was exactly what we wanted and needed. It performed great, and we are actually considering purchasing one. But wait, it gets better. On the drive from Orlando to Gainesville, our initial destination, several of the toll booths told me that I didn't need to pay as the toll pass I had explicitly stated I DID NOT WANT was active, and refused payment. Having spend 90 minutes after a day of travel and our late evening arrival, I just kept driving. This was a mistake. Two weeks after returning from the trip, I was billed $60 by Advantage for tolls.

This is far more than any tolls I incurred on the entire trip, especially more than Advantage would have received through their faulty equipment. After calling a customer service agent, I was told I should have contacted them at the time (on the roadside, with two screaming toddlers, tired and anxious to get to a hotel), and that there was nothing they could do for me. Never again will I rent from Advantage, and I will urge everyone I know to do the same. That includes you, stranger from the internet.

Once I arrived to the car rental Hotwire assigned for me Advantage Rent A Car they didn’t have the car for which I made the reservation for. The counter representative apologized and informed me that due to the unavailability of the vehicle on my reservation I can just choose another one from the lot; he never mentioned any upgrade or extra charge at all or appointed me to any specific car.

I used the car for the length of my trip and returned the vehicle on Thursday January 18th, once I went with the representative to inspect the car and sign the vehicle return, I noticed there has been a total of $156.22 amount on the paper I signed, which I thought was my receipt from the Hotwire reservation since they never mentioned they charged me an additional per night rate due to the “upgrade” they themselves gave me due to the unavailability of the car on my original reservation…

Once I get to the hotel to file my trip expenses. I noticed I have being charged twice for a rental car, an additional amount of $156.22 on top of the $118.32 amount I paid for my online reservation through Hotwire for a total of $274.54. When I called Advantage Rent A Car to do the claim I asked for Roger the agent that I deal with because I was under the impression that it was a mistake that he would be able to fix it without getting him in trouble. For my surprise they give me the go around and couldn’t transfer me to him or even tell me if he work at that location so I ask to speak to a manager. They took my information and told me that “Sean” was going to call me back in 20 min.

Of course no one called me so I called again and again until I was able to speak with him. I explain everything to him; he apologized for the inconvenient and promised me to call me back. 24hrs later I was still waiting for his call so I decide to call back again, and he told me he was going to verify with the agent and with the main office and call me back. Another day passes so I decide to call them again and verify the status of my refund. This time he wasn’t friendly anymore, he told me they charged me due to the “upgrade” on the vehicle that I requested. I repeatedly explained that their agent on site told me that due to the unavailability of the vehicle on my reservation they’ll give me another vehicle from the lot.

I told him I was never told about the additional charges and so I never approved the charge. He keeps repeating on a anger tone that I signed for it so I was “outta luck”! I explained again that I signed a document showing that I took a car from the lot (My rental agreement) but not approving the upgrade that I wasn’t told and that my company wouldn’t never approved it either since is not a company policy to pay for upgrades on car rentals. At this time he told me “do what you need to do” and hang up the phone.

On October 18, 2017 I rented a van with Advantage Rent A Car via Priceline. I paid $304.86 on my Discover Card at that time. When I picked up a Toyota Sienna van on Nov. 15th in Denver Colorado. I was told they needed my Discover for a deposit that would be returned to me upon return of the van. The agent asked me if I wanted to upgrade to a YUKON and I declined. After I get home from my trip, no refund is ever credited to my Discover bill. I see they have charged me $40/day for UPGRADE, an additional $301.99. I contacted Priceline for help and they say it's because of the upgrade and there's nothing further they can do.

Advantage claims the original rental was for a Kia Sedona and the Toyota was an upgrade. But at no time did the Customer Service bother to mention that. We called twice to complain, 1 time being offered a 50% refund. We refused and asked to speak to corporate. We were told Denver Corporate would contact us. They never did. Tonight we called for the 3rd time, we were told the case has been closed by Denver because the contract was signed. Don't do business with them. Be very cautious in using PRICELINE as well because they choose to do business with this deceitful company.

Customer Service agents appear to have no idea of the company's policies regarding pre-paid rentals, such as cancelling (and the fee), changing the dates (permitted or not?), etc. When you ask to speak to a supervisor to get clarity, the customer service agent will not let you do so. I understand that most customer service has been sent offshore, but it would make a difference to have agents who can speak the language clearly and understand it clearly. Do NOT use this company. Not worth the few dollars in savings.

I was out of town in Boston, Mass on business and rented a car there for a couple days. The counter help and parking lot help was horrible, with the staff very uneducated and seemingly clueless about their own procedures. The toll system in Boston basically requires people (residents) to buy a toll pass card monthly. For visitors/out of towners such as myself, the rental car agencies basically bill you later for the tolls.

Advantage waited over 6 months to bill me for the tolls with no sort of paperwork or anything sent me, they just billed my card for $142. After I complained to my credit card company, I got a micro sized (barely readable even with a mag glass) document that showed the tolls were $17!!! They added nearly 10 times the amount of the tolls in customer service charges! The original car rental itself ($145.27) was about the same size as their follow up toll bill! What's more, they took so long to do the follow up billing that by that time I had changed jobs and was no longer able to bill my business for my additional travel expenses. These people are frauds, con artists and cheats with atrocious service before and after the sale... NEVER use them, EVER.

My traveling companions, both elderly also, were unable to walk more, so I told them I would go up the other two levels and get the car and pick them up.

I have no sense of direction so when I was told that I would have to make several different turns etc to get back to where my friends were, also in the middle of the parking lot, I asked the attendant to drive me to them, he refused. Sure enough I was lost for over an hour and a half in the Orlando area parking lot and airport until an employee of Avis car rental was kind enough to get in his car and have me follow him until we found my friends. The cost was $9.99 per day. I questioned the need and the cost. She said, if we went through the tolls we would be charged $25.00 fees! Turns out, those fees are if you get a moving violation ticket, parking ticket or a citation. Hmmm, she didn't mention those things. She made it sound like it was our only option to travel.

Well, we went through 1, I repeat, ONE toll on our way to Ft. Myers (through Alligator Alley) the toll amount was $3.25. And cars were lined up to go through the tolls to pay and get their change if they didn't have the exact change. This means that on our trip back, we will pass the toll once again for $3.25. Total $6.50 instead of almost $70.00 that she duped us for. Then, she said we would save money by having them fill the tank at $2.60 per gallon because their cost was less expensive. The highest gas price I saw the entire week was $2.43! Will never rent from Advantage again because they are dishonest! This increased our car rental cost by more than $140.00. So, unless you are driving from one end of the state to another and back again, the E-Z PASS option is definitely not worth it!

We went to the reservation desk, supplied the attendant with the paperwork, out of nowhere he looks up and say that we are 2.5 hrs late. We told him the reason and he answer was, "Too bad. We have no car for you, we only hold them for 2 company hrs," this was at 11 pm and we asked him, "What are we to do," his answer was he didn't know and yelled to the Payless agent down the counter, "DO YOU HAVE ANY CARS". He could have cared less of the problem, and he said that it's the company policy.

We got a car bottom of the line and twice the amount... Called the company ADVANTAGE at the number supplied and it's out of order/service and finally tracked a number to call that was a direct line, spoke to a agent by the name of Lee who said that it wasn't the right that, "There was a car there for you." She opened a case and said that someone would call in 24 to 48 hrs. Well no one called. So I called them and got a total runaround that if you're late they keep the reservation but give your car away, and there is nothing they can do. The guy was argumentative and more I questioned him the more defensive he got. And said nothing could be done, my case was closed and over. I had booked a car with EZ car through Expedia. The due at pickup cost based on my Expedia reservation was $163.71 for a "special special car" (whatever that is) for 4 days. This price was more in line with what I usually pay for rental cars, nothing fancy. If the price is the as good I usually book direct with Enterprise, however their rates were around $450 total for 4 days. At that I'm thinking about alternative transportation rather than renting a car. Anyway, first of all (in the middle of the afternoon, the sign in the terminal at the EZ car desk tells us to take the shuttle to the Advantage desk, ok, fine no big deal, but when we finally get to the outside office, there's a long line... actually not as long as I saw on a previous review, but still a longer line than I'm accustomed to at rental car counters. BTW this was at the Denver, CO. airport (DEN).

Now when I finally get to the counter, (honestly the guy behind the counter was decent, but now I think it was tactic, engaging in small talk, etc.) Mr. agent finds my reservation and commented that Priceline saved me $200.00, (that's great, I think). So I tell him I'm going to Estes Park, oh he recommends I use an SUV and I'm like ok, still thinking about the "special, special car". So he excuses himself and exits thru a door behind the counter and I'm waiting and... waiting. Finally he comes back and he tells he has this Black Infiniti QX80 and I'm like ok... mind you never once did he say there will be an upcharge.

AND so when he shoves the agreement on the counter with a handwritten X and signature line, I look at the number and am like, no way, the total was $740+. I said I was not expecting to pay this much and so he somewhat sheepishly takes the paper back and says he can do a lesser insurance coverage. So that came out to $617.17. And at this point I'm ready to get out of there and I'm thinking well that's a little better. And so off we go on our 4 day trip. Well, it wasn't till after I returned the car and received the final receipt that I started combing over the agreement.

First of all I prepaid for gas @ 2.59 a gallon, the agent told me that's the best price I'll get, not true, I paid that exact amount for a refill and there were gas prices lower than that around and they charged a concession fee and a state tax totaling 22.36% on top of the quote best gas price!!! Upgrade fee was $120 plus tax, insurance was $139.96 plus tax, EZ Toll $39.96 plus tax... I'm talking a civil suit against these highway robbers!!! And this is coming from a renter who considers himself to be more seasoned... I would much rather have paid Enterprise the $450 and collected points on that!!! I will not rent from these guys again!!!

My first bit of advice... run as fast as you can to the next rental car counter. These guys are conmen disguised as a business. Where to begin... When a company bolds their cancellation policy (i.e. no refunds if canceled less than 24 hours before you are scheduled to pick up your car) and puts a ton of very non-traditional rental car related policies in super, super fine print, I recommend running away as fast as you can. I walked away from the counter disgusted and resigned to letting them keep what I had paid. They know it will happen and my sixth sense tells me this is another piece of the business model.

    A. Awful, Awful Customer Service. From the moment I arrived, they were rude and dismissive. EZ Rental had signs up telling me to go to the Advantage desk. I schlepped up to the next floor and once I arrived, the customer service I received made me feel as if they were doing me a favor.

    B. Proof of Insurance? You must show up with proof of insurance if you are a local customer. I tried pulling it up on my phone and the customer service associate expressed deep frustration. Told me she could do nothing for me. I told her most companies can usually pull up proof of insurance through your driver's license details. She responded, "How do you expect me to do that?" Once again, I advise you to read the ENTIRE terms and conditions. In the regular proof of insurance clause, it says if you are under the age of 21 you need to present proof. There is a separate local renter clause that renders the first proof of insurance clause null and void. Are you still with me?

    C. One of the highest credit card holds I've witnessed ($350). Considering the level of disorganization, there is no way I was going to trust them with that amount of a hold. Especially after everything I have read online.

All in all, read the fine, fine print if you plan on renting. But, take my advice. You are much better off receiving quality and hassle-free service from another more reputable car rental company. The customer service representative I spoke to explained it best. Me: "This has been an awful experience. Do you actually support this?" Customer Service Associate: "From a company perspective, I have to say yes. Personally? No. It's not great, but it is a car rental company. I'm so sorry."

I accepted her word that it would be less expensive to have them fill it. I was also offered collision insurance. I declined that because my insurance company covers me in any car. I repeated that I did not want insurance because I thought that the agent, Xiang ** might have had difficulty understanding me. When the receipt was prepared, I again said that it should not include insurance. She seemed to agree.

The distance from Newark airport to my destination in Monroe County is 36.2 miles each way. When I returned the car on October 29 I was charged $35.02 for a full tank of gas even though I returned the car with gas 3/4 tank full. When I objected, the same agent said that the rule is if you use any gas you have to pay for a full tank of gas. When I told her she insisted that I not fill the tank she ignored that. I was also charged $55.98 for insurance. The agent said that I initialed to authorize the charge. She showed me the receipt with a scribbled initial that was not mine. I also saw that a scribbled initial was entered acknowledging that I would not receive credit for unused gas if the car is returned without a full tank of gas. When I said that she had repeatedly told me not to fill the tank, she ignored that.

I demanded to see the supervisor. She said there is nothing to do about the insurance because they already paid it and that their policy is that if you do not return the car with a full tank of gas you will be charged for a full tank. She ignored my protest that I did not agree to the insurance or the gas policy and said that I initialized it. I said I did not and that the initials are not mine. She did not acknowledge that and went back to her office. I recommend that you have a higher level employee confront the agents at Newark Airport and reprimand them if not discharge them. I also demand that the charges of $111.83 over and above the basic rental fee be credited back to my credit card account.

There is no one "signed in to the chat feature" so that isn't possible. I emailed the company (that says it will respond within 1-2 business days). It never responded. This company is dishonest and should be shut down with so much proof against its practices. It's disturbing that a company like this is allowed to operate. I am now out $113.50 for illegitimate charges when I only owed $98 for the original car rental in the first place. So aggravating!

I booked my flight and car rental online. I had never used Advantage before and I went back online and read customer reviews. What I read was not that good and I was a bit worried. I figured mostly unhappy folks review things online so I decided to keep the reservation and I am glad I did. Counter help at Newark airport were friendly and helpful and best yet, very good at what they do. Had my paperwork done quickly, and had me in my car and on my way. The car was immaculate and ran beautifully as it should. The experience at 3 am returning the car was as it was when I took the car.

I booked the car with Advantage to save a few dollars, I did save a little money and got the best service and experience ever renting a car... You could pay more to be treated at best average at the bigger named car rental but I highly recommend Advantage on your next planned trip. Good job to the Newark crew, you guys were great!

I have rented a great deal of cars in my life, and none have ever broken down. I rented this car at FLL to go to my grandfather's funeral. I picked up the car on 9/19. The car had a few times that it would have trouble starting during the week and finally, on the morning we were supposed to leave to go to the airport, it would not turn on at all. Everything on the inside of the car, radio and lights, worked so we knew it wasn't the battery. We heard the tell-tale clicking sound that is indicative of a blown starter. I called the 800 number for Advantage and received a generic customer service representative who refused to transfer me to the local advantage dealer and told me that it was my responsibility to have the car towed with my insurance. If they had to tow the car, they were going to charge me roadside assistance.

Rather than deal with them, I had the car towed and hitched a ride to the airport. Two days later, I had a charge on my card for GAS of $61.13 because the car was not driveable to take it to a gas station. I called Advantage to try to work it out with them, they gave me a confirmation number of my complaint and then never called me back. Finally, I disputed the transaction with my credit card company. They never offered me a partial refund for the time I was unable to drive the car or to reimburse my expenses in association with getting the car towed or getting a ride to the airport. I have NEVER had this experience with a rental car company and would NEVER rent from them again.

Then I check my accounts on the 30th of the same month, and I see that they took another $225 out of my account. So, I call them and they tell me that they had a problem with their system when they try to take out the tolls. The problem with that is, I signed up to have the toll bill mail to me and my tolls was not $225. Now, they tell me that it was a mistake with their system and it will be back in my account in 3-7 days. On top of all this... The car was not clean and the mirror was broke. My sister and I visited Maui on Sept 13, 2017- Sept 24th. We had chosen Advantage Rent a Car because the price they advertised was considerably lower than their competitors. We waited a long time in a big line with only two employees checking people in. We are in our 60's and 70's and when it was our turn the young man told us that the compact car we had reserved was no longer available and that we had signed something that said "or the manager's special" and that we would be getting a rather old looking minivan. Parking spaces in Hawaii are tiny. He knew we didn't want a minivan so he offered to upgrade us to a VW beetle for an extra $20 a night. My sister beckoned me over and I insisted that he give us something comparable to the compact. Then he said for us he would give us the VW for only an extra $7/ night. I continued to object, saying this is not what we agreed to and that this was unacceptable.

I was not nasty but clearly not happy and holding up the line. I repeated that we were not satisfied and he said "that's okay, that's fine." I got the impression that he was used to people not being real happy. Finally he threw in "or a small SUV" for the 7$ and we jumped on it. It ended up costing almost as much as the Hertz or Alamo would have been and nobody escorted us to the car or checked for scratches, etc. I think that this employee chose people he thought would not know what to do and tried to get more money from us (two older women). Later, when we dug out the agreement my sister had signed that the contract said "manager's special, something comparable to reserved car". I do not consider a minivan equivalent to a compact car or a VW beetle. The small SUV we ended up with ran well but was dusty and scratched.

We took pictures so they would try to charge us later for something we didn't do. A very unpleasant start to what was supposed to be a fun vacation. The employee, (wish I had his name) was not at all concerned that we did not walk out happy. He was borderline rude. We will never, never use this company again. The other name they go by was EZ which is a joke. They should be called out for trying to scam customers. They should call themselves DIS-Advantage.

Hello, I recently received a business response from Advantage Rent A Car (i.e., the Voice of the Customer Manager). To summarize, I am satisfied with her response that focused on customer satisfaction, professionalism, and even gratitude. Moreover, my card was refunded $164.13. That said, I am very happy with the outcome of this case and might even be willing to give Advantage another chance of serving me again in the future.

    Original Review: Sept. 15, 2017

To start, this whole ordeal I am furious about happened 5 months ago, so please forgive me if the details I am sharing with you are not as fresh and clear in my mind as they could be. Anyways... My story begins when I decided to rent a car at Logan Airport from Advantage because I found a great deal online. I took Uber to pick up my rental car and used the address provided online for Advantage (100 Tomahawk Dr). Long story short, the Uber driver and I did circles around the airport for a half an hour trying to find where I go to check in and fill out the paperwork. When I did find the Advantage counter I was greeted with friendly service even though I was clearly in a hurry.

When signing the contract, I remember making sure I prepaid for gas (I have been burned badly before for returning a car a little below a full tank). Moreover, I remember asking the Advantage employee I had been chatting with what I should do about tolls. When she told me with a smile to worry about them after my trip to CT, I naively assumed that I would have to pay for the tolls/would have the toll charges on my final receipt/bill when I returned the car. When I did return the car, I carefully looked over the bill and found nothing unusual except for some random fees. Overall though, I was satisfied.

Fast forward five months later... I have a charge for $170 in my checking account. I immediately assumed it was fraudulent but my bank did want me to contact Advantage to gather more info so I did. To my surprise, the Advantage customer service rep told me that the charge was for *you guessed it* TOLLS! He said I accrued a $25 fee for every toll I went through. Thinking he would waive the charges after I explained my story (including how it had been five months since I rented), he would not budge an inch. Now I plan on exposing this company because of this horrific experience... This could get ugly. - A very unhappy customer.

When calling customer service, I was advised I signed the contract and was knowledgeable of the cost. I explained that I was at fault for not reading the contract and that I had become complacent as I usually get what is economically feasible. They provided a service I did not need and I ask that they correct the error. Had they explained they were adding the mileage package at the time of purchase, I would have advised them that it was not needed. I was told it was a contract that I signed and I have no recourse. I could have taken Limousine service much cheaper. It seems that Advantage would rather lose a customer than to correct the error made. I will never use them again and I advise everyone else to stand there and read contract before signing irregardless how long the lines are. I will also make every attempt to dispute this bill once it come out on my credit card.

My husband and I approached the counter where I gave the agent my name because the car was reserved by me. The agent asked for my driver's license and my credit card.

She also asked if I would need insurance and I declined. I always decline whenever I'm offered insurance by rent a car companies because I have vehicle insurance and my credit card also provides insurance.

Thereafter, I was guided by Hollemcia as she was viewing a computer screen where I should initial/sign on an electronic pad that was displayed on the top of the counter. My husband and I picked up the car and left. The car was returned the following day on 7/2517. I asked for a return print out/receipt and was told that it would be sent to my email. I have yet to receive it. A couple days after I noticed that my credit card have been charged $109.05 for Collision Damage Waiver after I declined such when asked by the agent.

I called Advantage for 2 consecutive days; numerous times to no avail. I was rather frustrated because I'm calling a business and no one is picking up the phone. The calls would go to a full mailbox therefore I was unable to leave a message. Finally, after calling for 3 days I got someone there. I had multiple phone conversations with the staff including a manager from Advantage and was told by the manager that I signed the contract so the money would not be put back into my account.

There was also a conference call amongst myself, the manager (Advantage) and a representative from my credit card company. The manager from Advantage insisted that I signed the contract and that was that! The manager also stated that I returned the car late so the $109.05 was a late return fee. So, the fee went from an insurance fee to a late return fee. Such inaccuracy! I would love to be able to play the tape from the surveillance camera that they have on site to the public so people can hear/see how dishonest/deceitful they are at Advantage Rent A Car. My credit card company gave me a temporary refund.

However I have since received a letter from them that the $109.05 have been reversed because Advantage provided documentation that I agreed to the insurance by initiating that section. Advantage Rent A Car is a BIG rip off! The employees there take advantage of their customers and the name says it all! 'ADVANTAGE' They tell the customers what and where to initial and sign on the electronic pad and then charge your card for what you have already verbally declined! Customers please be very aware of their shifty tactics! They are scammers!

I am at a loss for words at the level of service received from Advantage Car rentals/Europcar. I had pre-booked my rentals online for both Las Vegas and Washington. The Washington experience is where my nightmare began. My unfortunate experience emanates from the following: the inexperienced consultant behind the counter was either improperly trained or had no life in him. Alternatively it could be that he ran the Airport branch at Washington entirely on his own. Nonetheless it took over an hour before I was served. At that point the queue behind me had backed up considerably.

Once I reached him, I asked him what vehicle I would get and he mentioned a sedan, one of which was a Ford focus. I asked if there wasn't an SUV like a Hyundai Tucson and he said this would be at an additional fee of $25. All this was happening while he clearly had my booking details on his screen. I then presented a copy of my booking which said "Toyota Rav4 or similar" - my thinking is that a Ford focus is far from an SUV. He then said "Oh yes we can do a Hyundai Tucson". I was brought up not to lie but clearly this fellow was not of the same upbringing.

After an hour delay I left and drove to NY where the vehicle was meant to be dropped off. Due to the delay I had no opportunity to refuel. I had taken this option at Las Vegas for around $50 but didn't expect this consultant to delay me by an hour. After handing over the keys with a quarter tank, I soon received an invoice for over $100 as a fuel cost at a rate of $8,99 per gallon which is over 3 times the normal fuel cost. To me this is theft and a complete disregard for customer centricity. Again the consultant nowhere explained that the cost per gallon would be $8,99 should I not refuel. By the way the fuel cost was almost double the actual car rental cost.

I trusted the Europcar brand and have used it for both business and pleasure in my beautiful country South Africa and abroad. Under the Advantage Rent-A-Car emblem I can say that I am hugely disappointed. I would like a fair fuel rate to be charge which would be around the $50 mark. I will also be escalating this matter and using social media where possible to reveal the robbery I have undergone and urging all to reconsider Europcar and Advantage as service providers.

The rental amount was $356.59 for a Toyota Camry or similar car for driving to Aspen Colorado. When we checked in at Advantage, the rental agent told me that because we were driving up to Aspen through Independence Pass, the Toyota Camry would not make it as it would overheat and we needed to be upgraded to a larger vehicle. He upgraded me to a Nissan Pathfinder and printed a contract for $1,089.00. I told him that this was insane to be upcharged $733.00. He then told me that if I returned the car before 7:30 PM on Saturday, which we did, the charge would be $599.10 which was still $242.51 more than the original contract. Mind you the only reason I agreed to the larger car was that I was lied to that the Camry or equivalent would not work.

Upon driving through Independence Pass, I saw many small cars including Volkswagen Beetles. When I got to Aspen I was told that I had been blatantly lied to by the Advantage agent. 7/5/2017. My advice if you rent a car from this company "ADVANTAGE Rent-A-Car" at Nashville Int'l Airport. I approached the Advantage counter to pick up the contract and keys of a car that already paid in advance online. I had the bad luck to met an employee called Shae, "in charge" of taking care of customer rentals. That was exactly what she didn't do.

After she makes me wait for an hour of my time for the rental term start, in a very bad manners, asked for my DL and CC. While I was pulling my credit card of my wallet, she demanded for my Driver ID. In a good tone and without being rude, I said: "let me do one thing at the time please." She insisted, and when I handed the ID, she said that "Im not going to rent you a car." I asked "Why?" She replied "because I just canceled your reservation" and in that very same moment, ripped off the credit card form and printed contract, gave me back my credit card and refused to follow up with the transaction. I was shocked, because I didn't see any red flag in our conversation, we didn't even had a discussion!

Since she let me know that I didn't have any options, I asked for a manager, or, another employee to retrieve the car that I had already paid, then she said "leave the counter or I will call the Airport Police." I asked "Why?" and she replied: "leave the counter or I will call the Airport Police." So, without any word I left and I went online, and I called the Company "Advantage Rent-A-Car" and waited for an hour on the phone to be answer by someone at customer service (they never did answered). Meanwhile, when I was on hold, I managed to book a car with another company (Budget) without any problems!

I lived 21 years in Nashville, rented thousands cars and I never had such amazing experience with any company. From now on, I will make sure, to not rent ever again from "ADVANTAGE Rent-A-Car" in Nashville or any other place in the planet earth! And I will certainly pay attention to don't meet anywhere this poor, untrained, lower class employee with nerves irritation, called SHAE.

I am so disappointed in the service I received today from Advantage Rent A Car. To start off, when I arrived at the kiosk the car I had reserved online was not available. I was very confused but the lady at the kiosk (Sandy) seemed very accustomed to this type of thing happening. She made several phone calls and was finally able to get us the car we initially reserved online. Now comes the worst part. This is a family trip so I had wanted a bigger vehicle when considering rentals. I specifically called Advantage Rent A Car to find out the specific policy for the Ford Transit van I was interested in. The agent I spoke to online assured me that no additional insurance coverage was needed and that I could apply my full coverage policy through State Farm, to cover the Ford Transit van.

I had a little back and forth with Sandy at the kiosk because I explained to her just this. I felt very frustrated because I felt like I was being treated like an idiot basically not knowing the policies and procedures to rent this van and on top of that, being told something completely different than what I was initially told. We settled on getting the rental without insurance. I then called customer service and was placed on hold for 14 min by Pablo who when I told was was happening, simply said "You know sometimes these things happen". He then proceeded to place me on that 14 min hold because I requested to speak to a supervisor and was then told by Pablo that one was not available and that I should wait for a call back to the driver on the reservation's phone (my husband James **).

After this, we went up to pick up the rental only to wait an additional 30 min for the van that was just sitting there while I saw dozens of other customers leave in their rentals. We only got the van after finally waiting 30 min because we went back to the pick up window to ask where the van was to then be told that they were waiting for it to be brought. One of the car pick up guys asked what was up and asked if the van that was sitting literally right in front of us was the one we're waiting for... Which it was. They sort of laughed it off and asked if they wanted the van driver to us or if we just wanted to take it, which we did. This is a family trip with many small kids who sat on a plane for 3 hours to then also have to stand in a hot parking lot and deal with this. On top of all of this, we called our insurance to then be told that we would indeed be covered. I am very dissatisfied with the service and plan on taking this complaint all the way up to corporate.

Terrible experience. Front-desk employee pushed me to purchase a toll pass for duration of week, even though I repeatedly and forcefully told him that I wouldn't need it (I was on business, staying in the same suburb that my week-long meetings were located). The Advantage employee wouldn't accept no for an answer and finally I just caved when he told me that if I didn't use the toll pass I'd be able to refund it after returning the car. This was explicitly stated.

Lo and behold, upon returning the car, (a different) Advantage employee looked at me like I had three heads when I indicated that I expected to be refunded the value of the toll pass. I was directed toward a customer support line, where I waited for an hour, explained my situation to multiple people, and was told that they would call me back. Days later, no such call has happened. Furthermore, I reserved a compact car but was given a truck, which meant that I spent 30% more on fuel than I expected to.

I reserved a car with Advantage at Newark Airport and traveled there from Manhattan to pick it up. When I arrived the woman at the counter said she would not rent me the car unless I had proof on paper that I had car insurance. She falsely insisted that this "requirement" had been sent on the online reservation confirmation. I had a printout of the confirmation, and of course there was no such thing on it. The woman refused to rent us the car. So I went over to Budget and rented one with no problem. Which is no surprise since I have absolutely no red flags - just a normal customer. My question is, how can these Advantage jokers stay in business?

All I wanted to do was change the pickup time, it came out wrong when I rec. the reservation. You wait on hold for very long periods of time. If and when you finally reach a person they tell you they can't even change the time. That I need to call my agent! Who even uses a agent these days? I told them I did it online at the website. She still can't help me, so I guess my only options are to cancel most likely with a charge, or wait 8 hours in the office till pickup time. Never use them again.

What car nowadays has these primitive features? No car rental company should be allowed to rent a car in the United States without electronic windows and door locks. Will never rent from them again. Wait time to get to the Advantage rental counter was over an hour. Once at the counter Advantage's agent, Jessica declined to enter my insurance information saying she didn't need it because she trusted me. When she printed out my charges they were almost $200 higher than listed in my reservation. When asked about each charge her only answer was "these are the fees you must pay or don't take the car". I had been in their office for nearly 1 1/2 hours and didn't want to leave without a car. On further examination the "fee" for $185.43 was insurance Jessica had added then told me I was declining it under her guidance at checkout on the credit card interface.

Customer service assured me they would have a Denver manager call me within 24 hours. I have called customer service multiple times over the past week and still no call. Their office is full of surveillance cameras which will show me trying to give Jessica my insurance information from my cell phone but apparently, they only use this when it's to their advantage. On top of this the car was filthy inside & out. It appears at the least the Denver/DIA office participates in or at least condones deceptive trade practices. It's worth paying a few extra dollars at another agency to avoid this scam, hopefully then you will have a chance at a clean car, reasonable lines and actually paying the amount quoted to you on your reservation.

Intended to title this "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", but then I realized I could not think of anything good about this organization, and I use that term loosely. On June 19, 2017, I had a reservation a Advantage Rent A Car, 23790 E. 79 Ave., Denver, Colorado. Our flight was five hours late, so we arrived at the airport shortly after midnight. We proceeded to the area designated for pickup by the car rental vans and waited and waited and waited. At one time there were four of us there waiting for the Advantage van, but the "smart" one gave up and left. Several of the other car rental companies' vans came by twice before our guy finally showed.

Upon arriving at the Advantage site, there were only two people in front of us, but it took the two clerks about twenty minutes to process their rentals. It was now about two in the morning and the clerk had a sullen disposition, but I attributed that to it being the middle of the night. I later decided his disposition was probably always of the sullen variety.

The first thing he did was check my reservation and say that I didn't have one. I pulled out my paperwork and told him that I did have a reservation, to which he asked what time I was suppose to pick up the car. I told him 7:30 p.m. and he said "All the reservations are removed from the system after the vehicle is not picked up for six hours after the scheduled pickup time." I protested that they had my credit card number, and no doubt would have charged me for the car, and he said he would check with the manager and see whether he would approve of their honoring by reservation. He shortly returned with the "good news" that my reservation would be honored.

My reservation was for an Optima. He asked where I was going and I responded Steamboat Springs, to which he said the Optima was not suitable for driving in the mountains and I needed an SUV. He said they would make me a great deal and I could get an SUV for only about $125.00 more for the week, which I declined stating that I would take the Optima. He then tried to get me to take the insurance which I declined, and to take the EZ pass which I declined. He said if I got on the toll road without the EZ Pass it would cost me the amount of the toll, plus and administrative fee of $25.00 per use. I still declined the EZ pass and he gave me the keys to a vehicle, stating that he had given me a CR-V, instead of the Optima that I had reserved and that the vehicle was in the second row, and a specific space.

This is now about 2:30 in the morning, I am 75 and my wife is 71 and he is sending us out into a dark parking lot with all our bags to search for a CR-V somewhere in the second row. Upon leaving the office I noticed there was an Optima parked by the door with the driver's side door opened, so I "assumed" this must be our car. I tried the key in the ignition and the car started, so I opened the trunk and placed our bags in it. About this time the agent came out of the office and said "that is not your car." I told him that the key he give me started the car, so I assumed it must be ours. He says "no, your car is the CR-V in the second row, space whatever, and the keys are in the console." We then retrieved our bags from the trunk and proceed to walk across the dark parking lot with our bags looking for a CR-V.

When we arrived at the specified space it was occupied by a Hyundai Tucson. Sure enough, the keys were inside the console, so I tried to open the rear tailgate with the remote. The button for the tailgate was labeled "Hold", so I held it down and the tailgate sill would not open. I placed all our bags in the backseat and after dealing with another surly fellow at the gate we were allowed to leave. Our hotel was about four miles from the car rental site, and it took about three hours from the time our plane landed to reach our destination.

After, the second time of loading our bags into the back seat, I found there was an owner's manual in the glove box. The manual said that to open the tailgate lid hold down the remote button and raise the tailgate by pressing on a latch on the tailgate, a latch which is hidden from view. Now, why didn't I find that in the dark and 2:30 in the morning? We had the Tucson for a week and it was a great little car, drove well and averaged about 35 miles per gallon. Now for the return saga.

Our flight was leaving at 6:45 a.m. so we had to be at the airport by about 5:00 a.m. We arrived at the Advantage office about 4:49 a.m. and dealt with the same gate attendant, who was not as surly this time. We went in the office to check out and I told the clerk that I had driven on the toll road without knowing there was no way to pay the toll. He said okay he would add EZ pass to my rental. I requested a copy of my bill and he said it would be emailed to me. I was in a hurry so I didn't ask any questions.

We got out to the pickup spot for the van and waited about 15 minutes before it arrived. The driver loaded our bags and some other passengers bags and left. After waiting about 15 minutes I went into the office and told them we were short on time and the driver was not there. About this time another Advantage van pulled up and parked behind our van. After another five minutes or so of waiting another Advantage employee came on the van and remarked that our driver was absent. I told him we had been waiting on the van about twenty minutes and that we were short on time. He left and a few minutes later another driver showed up and took us to the airport.

Upon arriving at home I checked my email and found that they had sent me a copy of my bill and added a charge for the EZ pass of $79.92. I drove on the toll road for probably ten miles and the toll would have probably been around $3.00, and net profit to Advantage of $76.92. I did a little research and found that Advantage in Denver participates in the Plate Pass System and that "Every car is Plate Pass ready. No pre-enrollment or signup is required." Under the Plate Pass system the renter is suppose to be charged the actual toll, plus an administrative fee, so there was no need for the clerk to add the EZ pass to my bill, except to extract more money.

Calling Advantage customer service is akin to calling a recording, they have no knowledge about how the toll system works and they are either unable or unwilling to help resolve the issue. After calling about five or six times and sending an email to an address providing by their recording, an email which was returned as undeliverable, I finally gave up and filed a dispute with my credit card company (Citi) who reversed the charge and sent me an email in less than 24 hours saying the reversal was permanent. Never, ever, rent from this company, even if they quote a fantastic rate. What appears to be a good deal, will turn out to be more expensive than they quote, without delivering what they promised and a truck load of frustration.

We recently rented a car at the Orlando airport and it was a very frustrating situation. We were overcharged because the agent put us down for two drivers when we told him upon rental pickup and return that we did NOT want the additional driver option. But he used the electronic signature pad to trick us into requesting additional driver option. He claimed that I had to sign because the rental was charged to my credit card and my wife had to sign because she was the driver. The signatures ended up going to the box for additional driver option box. We will contest this overcharge with our credit card company because their agent was such a jerk and liar. So my wife and I travel to Houston, TX and go to the Advantage desk to pick up a compact car. They had advertised a Nissan. Instead they give us a Volkswagen Beetle convertible. I hate that car, and ask for another. They say it is the only compact they have. It has 39,000-odd miles on the clock. The passenger-side front door rattles every time we go over a bump. The sun visor on the driver side is missing (I later find it in the seat pocket in the back of the car, where someone put it because it was broken). We pay some ten dollars a day for toll road access, which turns out to be totally unnecessary. They charge USD 200 dollars deposit. As of now (Wednesday night) I still have not received the deposit back. When I call Advantage to complain, they say it depends on my bank. Well, I will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. That will hit Advantage with an immediate fine of USD 10,000. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

He told us to mark it on the form as preexisting damage, as we had not yet handed the form in, and be on our way. We did so, and now a month later are being charged with damaging the car. The documents used in the damage claim have been forged, but lack our signature. This is a huge headache! In the future, we will avoid it by renting from a car agency you have heard of before to save a few bucks. In the end the hassle and potentially having to deal with insurance claims over an accident caused by one of their employees on their premises is ridiculous.

Arrived at the rental kiosk in DFW. 15 people ahead of me 1 person looked to be working while 2 others watched. After 15 minutes I went and asked why only 1 person working. I was told they had no vehicles and were only processing as vehicles came back. Surely you know how many Cars are out and how many are booked, it's simple arithmetic. Now 25-30 people in line. Please note they ask for a time period of when you will be picking up the vehicle. My flight was 30 minutes late arriving at DFW but I was still well within the 2 hour time frame of the vehicle reservation until... You wait an hour and more for vehicles to come back and when it's finally your turn at the desk the representative says "your reservation expired 15 minutes ago and we don't have any vehicles for you."

I never said a word, I went over to National, paid about 30% more for the rental car and decided to write and tell as many people as possible to avoid this company at all cost. Nothing they could do would make me go within spitting distance of their kiosks. Apparently the US government employees are forced to use them due to price. They really should consider the cost of the 3 employees who stood behind me in line for 11/2 hours. As a business owner that equated to more than 41/2 hours employee time in the middle of the afternoon. More than enough to offset the cost of a reputable and professional car rental company like Avis, Hertz, National, etc. These folks need to be out of business. These folks can't even be rated. They are that bad. DO NOT BOOK WITH ADVANTAGE EZ.

I rent cars almost weekly, due to extensive travel for business. I have never in my life had such an unpleasant experience. I still get angry thinking about it. It wasn't WHAT was said; it was HOW it was said. The girl at the counter smugly asked for my fiance's Dec sheet for his auto policy. We thought she was mistaken. She wasn't kidding. Without a Dec sheet she adds a huge fee for daily insurance. She was rude, condescending, and seemed to take personal delight in being difficult. We were unable to get the Dec sheet for my fiance's policy, and we couldn't use mine without another major upcharge to add me as a driver, which made her visibly happy.

I needed to cancel my reservation with Hotwire and make a new one. She was miffed that we had bypassed all the minefields. Surely, the customer associates get commissions on the upcharges? I can think of no other reason she would have the kind of response she had. I thought of all the tourists who don't have the resources we had, and are victimized by her "gotcha" attitude. Why would anyone in their right mind opt to deal with a person like that, when all the other competitors are friendly and helpful? I figured out the reason for the big deal about requiring the Dec sheets for the insurance policies, and for forcing people to buy their insurance coverage when they can't provide their Dec sheet. I mean, who carries a copy of their insurance policy with them?

I was given a car that was all smashed up on the driver side. Had I not noted the damage on the sign out sheet, Advantage would have charged me with that damage! I'm considering seeing an attorney to investigate this. I'm certain that Advantage is charging multiple people for the same damage. And I'm sure it could be proven in a court of law. Their competitors don't require pre-flight damage inspections, don't hard sell damage insurance, and don't take joy in aggravating their customers! Why would anyone in their right mind use this company more than once?

We were really disappointed with our recent car hire with Advantage, booked through Economy Bookings. We have three complaints about the service. 1. The car hire was hard to find at the airport. When we arrived at the airport, tired after a long flight, we followed the instructions on the email which said to look for the Europcar stand at Orlando airport. This turned out to be non-existent and after wandering around for some time, and having to ask a number of other car hire companies if they knew where we would find Europcar, we eventually were pointed in the direction of Advantage, who confirmed that our booking was with them. Nowhere in the emails we were sent were we told to look for Advantage and we found it a stressful start to our holiday, worried that our car booking didn't exist.

    2. The salesman was pushy, and tried to sell us services that we had already paid for. When we finally found our booking with Advantage, the salesman was extremely pushy, and tried to sell us several different packages, including a car upgrade for $12 a day, suggesting that the car we had hired wouldn't be big enough (it was plenty big enough), and then told us we ought to book insurance with them. At this point, we were very confused, as we had amended our booking several weeks before to include full insurance. The salesman didn't appear to have this on record, and would only believe us when we produced the documentation. Again, this was a stressful experience, and it came across as very unprofessional.

    3. The salesman was misleading and manipulated us into purchasing an unnecessary toll pass, for $9 per day. Again, the salesman was pushy and said we should purchase a toll pass, at a cost of $9 per day. We felt that he shamefully misrepresented our need for the pass and exploited the fact that we didn't know the area.

We explained that we would be staying in central Orlando and just visiting the Disney and Universal parks, not going further afield and we asked if we would pass through a lot of tolls. As visitors to the area, we trusted him when he told us that there were tolls everywhere and that we would certainly pass through a lot. A few days into the trip, we realised that he had grossly misrepresented the situation. We went through two tolls the entire trip (on our journeys to and from the airport, on our first and last day). Each of these two tolls cost around $6, well under the $9 daily fee we were charged. So, due to misrepresentation from the salesman at Advantage, we have ended up being charged around $117 for $12 worth of tolls.

We contacted Advantage (initially by phone, where we were directed to an email address by an automated message) during our trip to explain the situation and ask that we would not be charged, but received no reply and the amount was subsequently taken from my card, with no explanation or reply to my email. We complained to Economy Bookings, and were told that as we couldn't prove what had happened, we weren't entitled to a refund for the toll pass.

We reserved a car at Advantage rental cars in JFK Airport in Queens, N.Y. And had instant problems from the start. They kept questioning my reservation claiming my ID was unacceptable, then it was my credit card, but both were ok. I was made to feel like I was a thief. Next they needed to see my itinerary so they can see when we were going home, I guess the dates we gave them for our reservation weren't good enough. When I asked them why they needed to see my airline information I was told it's always been their policy. I told them that is not true because I rented from them many times before and never once did they need that. I also told them that the person they helped just before me didn't have to show their itinerary.

Eventually after probably 45 minutes to get our rental we were off. Our return was even worse than the start. After the gentleman checked the car to make sure the gas tank was full and that there was no scratches, dents or mess we just had to have the people at the desk give us our receipt when the guy behind the counter asked if we needed a printed receipt. I said no. I didn't need one that my credit card company will send me my receipt. I never expected the nasty comment from the guy behind the counter, as he was mimicking me saying in a disparaging tone, no, I didn't need a receipt. And that was the beginning of our disrespectful counter person's remarks.

The next was him running out to our car telling us we were not allowed to have a dog in the car. When I told him he is a service dog and he has full access to everywhere. He told me he was not allowed in the car. I then told him he was breaking the law by saying the dog is not allowed in the car. He then said the dog left hair in the car. We told him he didn't, (Because we use a seat cover to cover the seat so there is no hair). My husband then took pictures to prove there was no hair. We rent a car at least once a month, and we have never experienced anything like this. All of this occurred on May 20, 2017 through May 23, 2017.

Ten minutes into our drive to South Kehei the car started to make funny suspension noises but the car was operating OK and since we were very tired from our travel we decided to return the car the next day. When we returned the car and told them about the noise they did not come out to look at the car and just gave us a replacement car.

On Feb 26, 2017 when we returned this car the extra $200 holding charge was put back onto our credit card and we were told we were good to go. On March 3, 2017 we received a letter from PurCo stating that damage had been reported on the car. On March 20, 2017 we received a letter with supporting picture etc. stating that there was major damage to a control arm and we were to pay them $5,537.62 USD for the repair, loss of use, etc.

The incident report stated that we possibly hit something or a curb. Our dispute letter stated that we had simply drove from the rental lot to our condo and then straight back to the lot the next day and did not hit, run over or strike anything with the car and my wife verified that she was in the car with me whenever it was driven. The pictures that were sent to us clearly show no damage to the front right tire or the rim. Also the pictures from ground level show no damage to the car and the only time you can see damage is when the picture was taken from below when the car is up on a hoist. I pointed out in my dispute letter that the only way I would have been able to see this damage which must have been done in a prior rental was if I was to get on my back and crawl under the car.

A confirmation of receipt of the dispute letter was received April 4, 2017 then today May 30, 2017 I received a letter from PurCo stating that "after careful consideration, we believe the claim is valid and will continue to pursue full payment of the claim". Any reasonable person looking at the pictures can see that we had no way of seeing this prior damage. Not only are they basically telling my wife and I that we are liars but they rented us a car that was unsafe to be driving. This could happen to anybody renting a car since I am sure they don't inspect the undercarriage before they put it out for rental again.

My private insurance will cover this minus my $500.00 cdn deductible but I refuse to pay for something I did not do. Since I have canceled the credit card that was used for this rental I guess they will have to take me to court to recover the cost. I will look forward to having a judge look at the pictures and listening to our statement of what occurred. I should be suing them for the stress this has cause us and the fact that they rented a car that was unsafe to drive. I will never rent from Advantage Discount Car Rentals or E-Z Rent-A-Car again.
