Firstly, this company has much hidden cost. Avoid it! They also have rating of F on BBB. They received numerous complaints on BBB website. Avoid this company Advantage! I am writing to report an unfair rental car issue involving Advantage. They forced us to purchase their insurance protection plan, which was unnecessary. We rented a passenger vehicle from Advantage from December 13, 2024, to December 21, 2024 near the Orland Airport in FL. At the rental office, we informed the customer service representative at the front desk that our insurance carrier provides coverage for rental cars, including roadside assistance, collision damage, and more. However, the representative refused to accept our insurance coverage and insisted that we purchase the insurance offered by Advantage, which also included roadside assistance and collision damage. This additional insurance cost me a total of $247.84.

Later, we realized that the mandatory insurance requirement from Advantage might not be reasonable. Therefore, we conducted research online and discovered that requiring us to purchase their insurance despite our existing coverage was not only unreasonable but also against standard commercial practices. On December 23, 2024, we called Advantage Customer Service to request assistance with this issue. Unfortunately, they dismissed our concern, stating it was too late to address it. Furthermore, they reiterated that purchasing their insurance was mandatory, even after I explained my situation.

Avoid this business, they are SCAMMERS! I rented a car in Las Vegas and returned it the same day at night with full tank. Surprisingly, they charged me $270 for fuel services. There is no picture or data showing the car needed gas. When I called them, they said I returned the car with the gas tank empty. I have the receipt from my credit card showing I put gas on it before returning and I only used 1/4 of a tank. Take pictures of everything before and after returning your car.

Advantage uses deceptive pricing practices to lure customers to their company. I was quoted $235.63 for an 8 day rental. After they told me I could not use my EzPass for tolls & tacked on roadside assistance without my knowledge the final cost of the rental was $346.81. That is more than 1/3 of the quote I received & more than $100 of additional costs. Advantage said that because they are off airport property I could not use my EzPass for tolls & said if I did they would hit me with a $55 penalty for every toll plus the toll even though I would have paid the toll using my transponder. I was not able to verify the veracity of this. Last time I went to Orlando in October I rented a car from Budget & used my transponder with no issues. I am not convinced that they were telling me the truth & nailed me for over $100 from their original quote for the rental. I will NEVER rent a car from these crooks again!

Advantage rental car takes advantage. I rented through Expedia. Car was off site. When I got here they said I was over 2 hours late and the rental expired. Taking advantage of travelers during the holiday. One person said 4 hours, the other person said 2… I was 2.5 hours after my reservation. The agent was confusing and did not give me paperwork to review. Just rattled off stuff. I thought I was signing that tolls were included with the rental not an extra charge. I showed them insurance for collision. They charged me for supp liability but never asked me. Have car insurance, why would I pay again. Same for road side assistance. I have these covered with my insurance. I didn’t receive paperwork. When I returned the vehicle, I received the receipt after I left the rental car place. I called numerous times and agents would not help, refund or let me talk with a supervisor. I felt taken advantage of by advantage.

I had a receipt for my rental for $63.84 total charges from Car Rental Savers. I declined any insurance charges as I have my own insurance. Rental agent then tried to charge me over $400.00! I objected and then she lowered the charge a little bit. After much distress and showing the receipt to her, she again acted like she was doing me a favor and lowered the charge a little bit more. I was tired, frustrated and angry with such horrible treatment by such a "con". I showed my insurance declaration page from my insurance company, receipt from Car Rental Savers. She wore me down. I finally gave up. Was then charged $169.15. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a car rental agency. I should be refunded the overcharge of $105.31 at the least.

I booked a Honda Civic in Advantage Scarborough Ontario for 2 weeks from July 25 to August 3. When I arrived at the car office, there was only 1 guy and he was very busy at doing everything: car cleaning, reception, phone picking, and lot of things. I had to wait long until he was available to serve me. He asked if I wanted to upgrade to more expensive car. I said no need. Then he said the Civic was driven by other people because I arrived late. He offered me Hyundai ELANTRA which I was fine. He asked many questions including whether I am first time to rent car. I said Yes. Immediately he said I need to pay additional CAD100 for top up the license recovery, and the deductible liability of insurance increase from CAD1000 to CAD2500.

I told him that I have driving experience for 20 years though this was my first time to rent a car due to maintenance of my own car, but he said it was company policy and mentioned in the contract. I was in rush to go so no choice but accepted. When I reviewed the contract afterwards, there was nothing mentioned about this. The guy increased the charges/insurance liability as he liked. Even though it was a policy, it should be mentioned clearly on the website when I made the booking so that I could decide whether to choose the company or not.

Also the car they provided were old with bad smell. I need to turn on the AC immediately after got in the car to keep the air ventilation. This car rental company was not honest and unfair to their customers. Due to lack of manpower, the service was not good. I DO NOT recommend it to other drivers who want to book a car!

To make matters worse, I was accused of something I did not do, leading to an additional charge that felt completely unjustified. The entire process left me feeling scammed and misled. What should have been a straightforward rental turned into a nightmare of unexpected costs and deceptive practices. I strongly advise anyone considering Advantage Rental Car to be extremely cautious. I highly recommend you DO NOT RENT here. I went cheap, I got what I paid for. The young lady who checked us in was very nice. She moved us through the rental quickly and informed us our car wasn't quite ready and still needed to be detailed. 45 minutes later, after two requests for the car, a car was provided. It was dirty. The windows were not cleaned and there was dirt all over the carpet. However, we took it because we were tired of waiting. About a mile down the road, I realized there was no gas in the car. It was literally running on empty. We turned around are returned to the company. The manager I spoke with informed me they had four hours to honor my rental (wow, what a standard to strive for) so the 45 minute wait was nothing. She was "sorry" the car was dirty and had no gas, but she couldn't do anything with what they did "back there." She suggested I return the car empty.

Sure, every tourist's dream is to drive around an unknown town with the chance they can run out of gas. She finally agreed to reimburse me for gas, but when I returned the car, the line was almost out the door. The people in front of me called an Uber because they couldn't wait for their car any longer. (But, 4 hours is the standard...) We gave up and left. They claim to be cheap and you get cheap service. The management is incompetent and defended the worst part of their service. The front desk was professional and kind, and she was thrown under the bus. Great work, Advantage!

They perpetrate theft. I have a contract with them that clearly outlines what I am expected to pay. When I returned the car, they charged my card for a fuel fee of almost $70. The contract outlines that I return the car half full and pay $33. I did that, they still charged me for a full tank of gas. This was a Kia optima and they charged me 8.99 a gallon. When I called to get a refund for the difference they literally called me a liar. The guy on the phone, Tyrese, said I was lying about this. The final contract, which was modified and does not contain my signature, doesn't show the fuel prepay. Fortunately I have the original contract with my signature and an outline of the correct amount. When I tried to reach out to get a refund for the difference, I'm told there is no number for local offices. The corporate office will, however, email the local office and ask them to refund it as only they are able to do so.

Regardless of the number of times they supposedly email the local office call they never call back and never provide a refund. I've attached screenshots of the charges to show how it was done. Added to that, the local office agent told me that in order to decline their insurance I would have to present my entire insurance contract so they could determine my coverage, is that legal? Who has that with them when they travel? Everything about this company seems like a scam and the employees seem to know it but don't care.

I informed him that I already have my own comprehensive insurance policy and ample rental vehicle insurance through my credit company. Despite this, he demanded my insurance policy number and then proceeded to request my entire insurance policy and credit card documents. This was the first instance where any rental car company had requested such extensive documentation.

Refusing to be coerced into purchasing coverage that I did not require, I stood my ground. Eventually, he followed through on his threat and cancelled my reservation. I wish I had read these reviews online before going with this company. I booked on Orbitz and the reviews there looked positive and the price was so low. Total bait-and-switch. First, they demand that you purchase their "non-mandatory" damage waiver unless you bring a print-out of your insurance policy. I've never had a rental company ask for that. Then, they charge you about $11 per day for the highway tolls, or else they will charge you a $50 "activation fee" in addition to the tolls. When I went with another company the last time, I was only charged for the tolls I used. Once all of their mandatory, "non-mandatory" fees were paid, the total came to about the same as if I had used the other company. I also had to wait about an hour in line when I picked up the rental car. With the other company, they are right in the airport, and it took me all of 10 minutes.

On top of everything, I extended my stay for two days, and there was no way to change the reservation. I called and pressed the option on their automated message system and was put on hold until it hung up on me. That happened 3 times. Online it said "reservation not found." Finally, I pressed the option to make a reservation, and got through to someone, only to learn that there is no way to extend the reservation. With the "extra day" charge of $147.44 for the car, plus all of their extra "non-mandatory" charges, the total for two extra days came to $452.79. I was ready to drive two hours to drop off the car and then get another car from the other company, but it would have ruined my vacation, so I am stuck paying that amount. Oh well, it will be the LAST money that Advantage EVER gets from me. I only hope that others will read this review and avoid the situation I am in. Awful. There is NO advantage to using Advantage.

I went online to add the license plate and the system didn't let me, so I called Sun Pass to get assistance adding the plate, and I was told that Advantage rental car added the car to Sun Pass and I couldn't add it nor use my Sun Pass with that car. So I went back to Leo, and he told me he won't take the license plate off of Sun Pass so I could add it after telling me to call and add it. He lied to my face. Then they charged my car $56, and we went to say that Florida doesn't charge taxes, so they had to make their money this way. This is the worst car rental experience ever. Stay away.

We landed at the Orlando International Airport. We were informed by the shuttle driver that Advantage had closed early due to a ‘key’ issue and he could not take us to the counter. We ended up renting a car at the terminal for an exorbitant amount of money due to it being at the absolute last minute, limited cars were available, and being a company at the terminal.

Our home is 80 miles away from the airport, so an Uber or shuttle was not possible. When I called them the next day, the next morning I booked through a different company that was more reasonable but called Advantage and told them I would like to be reimbursed for the one day rental of the vehicle we had to rent because they (Advantage) had closed without warning or solution. I was informed that they would cancel my reservation but that they would absolutely not reimburse me the $98.20 it cost for us to get home. Keep in mind, we need to now drive back to Orlando today to swap out the car from last night with the one we will be renting the rest of the week. This has cut into our vacation, cost us money, cost us time, and frustrated us to no end. Do not use them!

But that wasn’t even so much the issue. The car was driving had a 13 gallon gas tank so even at their price would’ve been $48 to fill it up. They charge me $70. When I called up to ask why they said the charges they charge. I asked to speak with management. They made me send an email, I got a response. An email saying the charges they charge. This is falsification of representation. They are liars. They are thieves. You should now run from them as they do not back with their people say. Eventually some woman came and upgraded us to a Hyundai Tucson and when we got in the car the gas was less than half tank full! And in the end they CHARGED us an additional $162 thinking we did not fill it up. Good thing I took pictures of both the flat tire and empty gas tank so they can’t scam us. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! THEY ARE RUNNING A SCAM AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY. I rented a car from them for 3 days in Orlando. The advertised price thru Expedia was $22 a day. I videotaped the outside of the whole car since there were many scratches and dents. The sunvisors were down when I looked inside the car. Everything seemed ok. After I left the lot and was only a few blocks away, I lifted up the sunvisor and noticed a small chip on the windshield behind the visor. My wife immediately called the company and it went to voicemail. She left a message and the woman called us back about 10 minutes later. We told her about the chip and she said she will put it in the notes about the chip.

We returned the car 3 days later with no problem. A receipt was sent to my email confirming the return with no issues. Four days later there is a charge for $600 plus they never gave me back $250 deposit. After sending them pictures and calling them three times they are saying I owe them $850 for the chip. I feel they gave me this car knowing it had a chip and who knows how many more people they will try and get over with this bogus claim.

I called Safelite just to get an estimate and they told me any chip or crack the size of a dollar or less is $159. I've spent over 40 hours sending emails and faxes of pictures and paperwork to my credit card and Mastercard. I will also now have to notify my auto insurance company. I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB, and any other agency that will investigate this company. Oh and that $22 a day somehow was a bill of $165 with all the crap they added without my permission. They also may be affiliated with ACE rent a car. One of my papers had ACE on it. Stay away from both ACE and ADVANTAGE. They both have a 1 star rating on BBB and doing a search came back to the 2 worst rental agencies.

I rented a car through orbitz which turned out to be Advantage. Price was $133.00 for 6 days. Landed in Orlando Florida, they bussed us to the rental. I walked in, gave them my name, driver's license and car insurance. They tacked on another $100 for toll fees so I ended up paying $233.00. We get outside and inspect the car. It was a 2022 black Nissan Altima. The car was covered in scratches, both head lights, back lights, passenger tire was missing the cap to the valve stem, radio didn't work, back up camera was floored to the bottom of the ground, and the radio was stuck on Spanish.

After checking the car over, my fiance put our luggage in, and we could hear air spewing from the tire. We begin to drive to daytona, air is again spewing from the tire. Check tire pressure. So we pay to put air in the tire. Get to our condo, nap for 3 hours, drive to dinner, check tire pressure. The tire was at 24 pounds of air. So we call the next day. I spoke with Maria. I asked of we can return the car, it wasn't safe to drive. She agreed that she would give me something else, no problem at all. Drove 1.5 hours back to Orlando. We are stuck at the gate, no one is there to open the gate to let us in. My fiance had to get out of the car and yell at them to do their job and let us in the parking lot.

We get in, park the car, some young kid says, "Just leave the keys in the car and head out." I told him no way, we are exchanging the car. He begins to ask me what's wrong. So we tell him. Go into the building and again get greeted by some ignorant kid, we tell him what's wrong with the car, and he tells me that I dated the car and I will be reliable for the damages. Be brings me a picture off of his personal cell phone. It's a blurry photo of what appears to be a hub cap. Again it's so blurry I can't even tell what the picture is. He tells me that the rim is bent, the valve stem is shot and it will cost me $400 and that it didn't look like that prior to me picking up the car. There is no rim, it's a hubcap.

I argued with him, told him we never hit anything, no one hit me and I refuse to pay for someone else's damages because the inspection was not done correctly. He again tells me it's my fault. Gives me Maria's email to fight with her over it. Then he offers me a 2023 dodge charger. I ask him how much that's going to charge me. He states that it is free and on the house. Cool, we leave and all is fine. I bring back the car 14 hours later, filled up full with gas, shake the sand out of the car and clean it out. Pull in, they tell me to leave the keys in the car and head out. I yelled back and told them, "No, you will complete the inspection while I am present."

The kid does the inspection, take his personal cell phone out, and takes a video on the outside of the car and inside of the car and that was it. 5 minutes after check out, I get a bill for $601.00. Advantage charged me for the car plus the $400.00 and put a pending charge of $250.00 on my credit card. Total cost of the rental car for 6 days was over $1,000. I called my credit card company and reported fraud charges. I REFUSE TO PAY THIS BILL. Also upon returning and picking up the new car, Maria had the nerve to laugh at me while exchanging the car. Rude, disrespectful, scam, fraudulent company. Never ever again. You ruined my vacation that I worked 15 hour days for for 6 months straight. I will report to the BBB and see you in court if you come after me for that bill.

The plan was to save some money by renting the car outside the Orlando airport (50% cheaper). The car rental companies will text you the place for pick up, and bring you back when you need to return to the airport. I reserved the car from June 24- July 1 for $250. It was going very smoothly with the Advantage until I have received the credit card bill. I was charged for the supplemental liability insurance which I refused twice when Luna asked me about it at the check in counter. I was asked to sign some paperwork where I put my initials on the left side of the contract (please don't sign thing until it's clear what you are signing away).

Supplemental insurance cost $250. Same as the" deposit " they put on the card, so I didn't catch it until the credit card bill arrived with the total charge of $500. I called customer service twice to dispute the charge, but it didn't result in anything but aggravation. And when you ask for the manager (Mike) or his email or phone extension-it's not the information they can provide. So Mike never got back to me. Also if you choose to use the ezpass for tolls, it's $10 a day and you would be charged this fee regardless of going through the tolls or not. Reading the reviews about Advantage rent a car I wonder how is the company still in business?

We get in, and I looked at the tank to check to see the level. Tank was 3/4 full, so I knew I needed to return it 3/4 full as well. 8/28/23- return the car and no one is helping us. A lady sitting in another car yells out, "Leave the keys in the car," and we are all set. We get our stuff and leave to the airport. I knew we hit a few tolls, so I was expecting that charge. I said I was disputing those charges. Get an email from the so called manager named Maria. I explained I was not given the car at a full tank and it was returned as it was given. She asks me for a picture of proof.

Of course after traveling all day I didn’t take the picture but I definitely checked the gas and car before we left, and returned it what it had when we got it. I would have no reason to lie about gas! If I knew I didn’t return it how I got it there is nothing for me to say like I didn’t dispute the toll charges! I also stated that I am NOT a smoker, so no one smoked in the car! When asked prove that I smoked in the car and about the gas, nothing! She couldn’t provide any documentation stating that they gave me the car on full and told me because it was “documented” that someone smoked in the car she was keeping my money and no refund. To see SO MANY people with similar fraudulent charges, these people are complete scams!!! Maria and her team are taking people's money! I also looked. They are rated F by the BBB! DO NOT USE them! Left a couple messages. Never got a message or returned call. Finally after some research on my end I found the number of the park and ride company that they are in the same complex as and found out that their hours on their website are wrong and that they are open till midnight.

Got to the location to pick up the car. They kept saying I needed this and that and almost doubled the price of my reservation rental. Go out. put my stuff in the car look it over and climb in. Immediately the Change oil light comes on. I go back in and tell the counter guy. He says “they probably forgot to reset it”. And “hopefully that’s all because he don’t have any other cars”. He climbs in. Looks at it and says “yeah it’s not been done and is due, but he’s gonna turn the light off and to drive it.” So he does.

I get to going down the road and hit the brakes kinda hard (just checking them) and I hear a loud metal on metal grinding sound with a bad vibration in the pedal. Drive the car for a week. Return it with no damage. A couple days pass and I’m looking at my credit card statement and I have an additional $850 charge on my credit card. Began trying to contact the rental company. Never talked to a human being. Left numerous messages and emails took 2 days till I finally heard back from them and a woman tells me “that the car had a busted windshield.” I told her it absolutely did not have a busted windshield and my girlfriend agreed. It was not busted. The woman said that her supervisor would contact me. Still ain’t heard from them. I had to contact my credit card company to stop the charge. I was only traveling with my daughter. I said, "Give me the one with the better gas mileage." When she quoted me the price I believed that was with the security deposit. I was eager to get out of there as my daughter has special needs. It was already a production traveling with her and this had actually been a second rental company I had to find after learning that the car that came with the package I had booked for my travel was offsite and didn't provide shuttle service. After trying to get the booking agency to change it to an onsite location unsuccessfully all they could do was cancel the car portion of my package and I had to find a rental.

By this point my daughter was hot, agitated, and hungry. I knew there was a potential meltdown on the way and I just needed a car and to get her food and to our room. When then small pin pad you you initial saying you agree to this, that, and the other I didn't think anything because again I thought the quote included deposit. It was until I received the receipt to my email that evening that I saw they had charged me $253!!! From $60 to $253. Are you serious. They had upcharged me for the vehicle they said they only had available. First of all if you rent a car and then they run out of the size, they generally don't penalize you. They waive any fees because that's not the customer's fault.

I immediately called customer service and disputed the upcharge. I was told the GM would get back to me within 3 days. I knew it was a holiday weekend so maybe longer. After a week no call. I call customer service again, they said they will send another request for a response. I send emails, no response. 3 weeks later I call customer service again and they tell me they closed the ticket. Too bad I signed the agreement. Not once did anyone call me, or send an email, or try to provide any level of customer service. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. I am not dropping this. This was almost $200 I had not budgeted for. This was my daughter's dream trip and this really hurt my budget to do everything I could for her. I'm a single mom and I work 3 jobs so to be robbed like this and taken advantage of when I worked so hard to make this trip happen was just unbelievable.

This caused me an unnecessary stop, unnecessary stress, and unnecessary expenditure, and in all my years of driving, I had never come across this issue. It is far from common. Yet their service agents didn't bat an eyelash and never offered me any kind of reimbursement for this unusual problem when I told them about it, both on site and on the 1-800 number

Beware of hidden fees when hiring a car in Orlando. Hired a car online, got a good rate but they very strongly advise you to pay $9.99 per day to have their electronic toll payment. If you do not and pay cash at tollbooth you will be charged $15 per day every time you use a toll road. In short, they increase their competitive hire rate by supplementing it with “an optional” Toll fee charge. Client satisfaction appears bottom of their priorities and it’s no surprise that they are not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and have a rating of “F”.

Good to mediocre: The car was nice and drop-off was a breeze! The shuttle service was fine (although had to wait an hour to be picked up). Bad: At check-in he sold me on a $9.99 fee for toll roads. It turned out to be $9.99/day. They asked me if I wanted insurance. I said No as I already was insured through my credit card. They added a $14.99/day supplemental insurance anyway. I didn't notice any of this until I arrived at my destination and saw the emailed receipt.

I immediately tried to email and call. I never received responses to my email. I got connected to Advantage customer service (general) on the phone and was told that there was no way to call the rental location. I was bewildered, but had no choice but to trust their word that I would be taken care when I dropped off my car. They did eventually agree to send an email to the Orlando location to request a refund for at least the insurance so that a record would be created.

When I returned the car I was told that nothing could be done at the moment and was promised a call from the manager to resolve my issues at a later date. I had a plane to catch so I had no choice but to leave. I never received a call. I called several times afterward and was eventually promised a refund for the insurance. That refund never was made. It's been three months since the trip and I still have not heard. In the end they charged me well above twice the price I was quoted.

Really misleading.

Now to the car. Car was a Nissan Rouge. Drove horribly. Tried to get a car change in OKC (location which is closed). Car would pull to the right repeatedly. Car would auto brake if you moved 1 to 2 feet either right or left. Also would auto accelerate when you change lanes (which was the scariest thing). Worst rental car experience I have ever had.

Overall renting a vehicle for this company was not bad but there are a few things to be aware of:

    1. They will try to get you to pre-pay for tolls, insurance, and gas.

    2. If you use a debit card for your rental transaction, they will hold a deposit which is expected but after you have returned their vehicle and you have closed out your business....your DEPOSIT WILL BE HELD UP TO 21 DAYS!! This ridiculous! I used my PayPal debit card and they explained this is not them but Advantage Rent A Car!

    3. I had an early flight out of Orlando on the day I returned my rental. During the drop-off, I was told to drive in and look for an empty parking spot and leave the vehicle with the key inside the car unlock. There was no one to do a check-out or inspection....So I left the car in good faith and with prayer that I won't get a bill with ridiculous charges. My prayer was answered!

Overall, my experience was not bad but I won't say it's excellent because of customer service, and inconveniences due to how they handle financial transactions.

He thrust paperwork in my hand, gave me the key and walked off. When I got in the car, I noticed a huge vertical crack in the center of the windshield. Sensing trouble, I drove back by the attendant booth and caught the attention of the attendant who was helping other people. I rolled down the window and said "there is a huge crack in the windshield". She waved me away and said "I already put that on the paperwork." In a hurry, I wrongly assumed the paperwork would cover me. Well, no. I brought the car back five days later, with said crack.

Advantage is now saying the crack was not there when I rented it, and are making a claim against me. They have video of me trying to make this right (but claim they have no idea what was said, and the attendant conveniently does not 'remember' any of this). I think this is fraud and they have rented this car out multiple times with the same issue. I'm so upset because I walk through life trying to be totally honest and responsible. I rented a car from the Advantage Rent a Car, DFW location, from 10/04/2021 - 10/10/2021. Initially, I received a car that smelled strongly of smoke and had no gas in it, so I had to return to the counter to get a different car. I received keys to a Nissan Sentra. I was told that they don't do walk arounds on the cars, but to look for any damage that wasn't already noted. I purchased the damage waiver, so I didn't think that was necessary, but I did walk around the car and look for anything significant. I did not see anything, but it was late and dark out. I also did not notice any damage while driving the car or while it was parked in my hotel's parking garage.

Upon returning it in the early morning hours (it was still dark) of 10/10, the garage attendant immediately pointed out the chip and asked me how that happened. I told him I didn't know, and he asked me to fill out a statement. In the following weeks, I received several phone calls & emails from a company called Alternative Claims Management, based in San Antonio, TX, letting me know there was a claim for the chip, but they didn't provide any other information or photos regarding the claim.

On 11/08/2021, I was finally sent a report and photos. They decided not to fill the chip (a $50 repair at most) but to replace the entire windshield and are trying to collect $727.86 from me. Not just for the repairs, but for "loss of use" and "administration fees". According to their terms & conditions, the loss of use is only for days that the vehicle is out of commission and supposed to be based on your daily rate.

Based on that, it looks like they're charging me for more than 2 days, when I can see from the receipts that the windshield was replaced first thing the following morning, meaning it was only out of use for 1 day. I purchased their most expensive insurance package ($450.77 in total for the week), which at most rental companies, covers any issues with the car. They are saying that glass isn't covered in the CDW, which I could understand if I cracked the windshield or caused some major damage, but it is a tiny chip that could have easily been filled. I feel like the pursuit of this amount is excessive and borderline fraudulent.

    Hello Advantage Rent-A-Car:

I was a customer of yours picking up a car (Nissan Versa) at Nashville Airport on 3-30-2021 and returning it on 4-1-2021. During my rental period, I received a text message, informing me that I had ben outside your rental area and that I was to call to correct the situation. I did indeed call after I had received the text message and basically was lectured by the representative that I signed a contract that stated I could not take the car beyond Kentucky (I was 7 miles past the Kentucky border). I told the agent where I was and that I would not move the car until my departure the next day. The text message indicated that I had the opportunity to rectify the issues, and I had assumed that my call was indeed rectification. The rep told me that Wayne was not in but I should speak to him when I returned.

Upon return to the airport, I asked for Wayne, but was only allowed to speak to him by phone. He lectured me again, and then offered to reduce the fee to $500. I told him that was not acceptable but I offered to pay an additional day rental. In response, Wayne re-upped the fee to $1,000. Furthermore and to add injury to insult, I received a bill that included concession fees and state taxes that incorporated the $1,000 fee, meaning the 11.11% concession fee and the 9.25% state tax were applied to the $1,000 fee. Interestingly, the $1,000 fee did not show up on the bill that was e-mailed to me.

I referenced the start of this note that I was a customer. I do not believe I ever was a customer of yours but rather a shakedown target. I spent good money with you as a customer and was treated with no service, respect and instead swindled out of a $1,000 which actually according to my calculations on the bill amounted to a $1,010 -- I added all the charges up and was left with $1,010 unaccounted for on my bill. I eagerly await your response. Thank you, Ben

First of all, this was all done through Veteran's Advantage so originally I received a lower price. When the rental was changed to one day, not only did the rep charge me $65 for a one-day rental of an ECONOMY sized car (she said there was no standard car in the inventory only economy although I told her I had upgraded online to a standard car), she never used my original Veteran's Advantage price and just charged me what I KNOW was not Advantage's price for an ECONOMY - sized car.

I was so frustrated especially after having to ask her to please save her constant texting until my transaction time was completed-(she said her texts were related to my transaction which I know was not true considering there was only ONE car in the lot that fit her $65 idea of an ECONOMY car) that I no strength to argue with her already pissy attitude. I was so tired after a 7-hr flight from California to Florida I just decided to pay the price, get out of there, and NEVER rent nor refer BUT DEFINITELY will advise anyone and everyone to NEVER rent from Advantage Rent a Car. Not to mention I was still charged a deposit of $45 for the toll pass even though I changed my rental to ONE DAY. And did I get a refund??? RIIIGHT. After making us get out, searching the vehicle and running everyone's information we find out that they thought the vehicle was stolen due to the fact that some "genius" placed the wrong license plate on my rental.

I'm a military veteran with PTSD and the last thing I needed was this stressful event taking place. Of course now our night is ruined and I have busy schedule tomorrow so I had no choice but to race back to the airport before they closed at 11:30 while on the phone with their corporate office. They tell me to call the manager at the Tampa branch where I was headed. Made it by 11:15. I explain to the attendant my situation and of course they didn't show any remorse for my situation and I wasn't expecting them to. I asked for the manager I'm told to call in the morning because they're asleep.

Soooo the next day once I find a break in my day I follow up with the contact information given to me to reach the manager on duty. I call and I get the manager that's not on duty. She says she thought she forwarded the calls to the manager on duty and she'd pass my case over and they'd give me a call. Two days later I still have not received a call from them yet. I was trying to give them a chance to save face before I took this matter public but they don't seem to care about me or my horrible experience so I'll definitely be following up and taking this public. I was hoodwinked being charged for Collision insurance even though I specifically stated I did not need or want anything other than what I signed up for online with Holiday car rental. I received a bill for 94.68 and had to send proof of my State Farm ins and they never called me and when I called they said basically too bad a Mgr made the decision and then would NOT allow me to speak to a Mgr or Supervisor. They were in a mtg and I was told this is a final decision period! I called my Credit card and put a hold on it as this seems to be a regular thing for rentals. I am beyond livid.

I even gave a rave review of Marilu the attendant at the airport...little did I know she was ignoring me and charged me anyway. This is how they make their money and to not have a Supervisor or manager to discuss the dispute with is unacceptable. Waste of my time to have to deal with this. The kicker is the little black box thingy you have to initial and sign was malfunctioning and Marilu had to help with it but it's up so high you can't even see what you are signing. I would have assumed she wasn't giving me something I said I did NOT WANT OR NEED. Very disappointing.

1/28/2020 Picked up the rental car in Charlotte at garage booth. At the rental booth in the garage there was a very loud noise possibly due to construction, and it was difficult to hear the attendant Tracy. She was very pleasant and made small talk and I trusted that she was accommodating my wishes that I did not want additional insurance on the vehicle. I signed a couple places on the keypad and went on my merry way. It was to my surprise a couple hours later that I had such a large hold on my bank account. As I return the car early Sunday morning, I use the dropbox to return my keys and proceeded to the airport. I did encounter an attendant in the garage walking towards the booth and she asked for the keys and I stated that I put them in the dropbox. She was irritated and not pleased that I put them in the dropbox. She stated that she would email my receipt as I was off to catch my flight.

As I was looking over my paperwork I discovered I was charged $14.99 a day for additional insurance. My initials were even in the box stating that I did agree to supplemental insurance but I told Tracey verbally and trusted her that I was signing the appropriate boxes to complete my agreement. I feel like this was a switch and bait operation, as the attendant used the language “would you like additional insurance or stick with basic”?

My interpretation was my basic insurance that I hold personally and I verbally said I did not want additional insurance. So I called customer service and they offered a 15% voucher on my next rental or 20% off of the charge of $74.95. I stated I was not happy with any of those offers and wanted to speak to a manager and the customer service representative stated that the managers were in a meeting. She would send my claim to a different department and I was to call back in 48 hours. I called back in 48 hours and received the same offer a 15% voucher or 20% off of the charge. At this point being extremely frustrated and learning a valuable lesson to always look at your paperwork. I took the 20% off of the $74.95 and I am still waiting for a credit to my account.

They upgraded me & with all the extra charges. It was $424 total. When the guy at the counter asked me what time I would be returning the car I told him 11:30am because my flight was at 1:45pm. For some reason he put 10:30am & they charged me for an extra day because I returned the car at 11:33am!!!! I got the car at 9:31am so technically I was 2 mins late. Apparently, advantage has a grace period of an hour so if the guy at the counter would’ve put my original time being 11:30am I would’ve had until 12:30pm. So from being 2 minutes “late” I was charged an extra $160 something!!

Further, one of the tires apparently had a slow leak and needed air in it more than once. After returning, we noticed our final invoice had a "refueling charge" of $6, i.e. 2/3 of a gallon. I called customer service to explain that the car was not filled up when we got it, and had a defective tire as well, and was told in polite terms to buzz off. This is not exactly a major horror story, and the amount involved is pretty trivial, but car rental is a competitive business and a company that deals with its customers in a sloppy manner like this does not need to be patronized. When I arrived, the lady helping me was super rude and I could barely understand what she was saying. She said there would be a $200 pending charge on my credit card (typical) and $91.59 for a Hyundai Elantra (a downgrade) instead of the $46.

When I asked where the extra $50 was coming from, she said "tax" and I told her that the tax had been included in the original quote. She then said it was for gas, but that I would be refunded for any of the full tank that I did not use. I used less than a half tank of gas and was issued no refund for the gas. In addition to that, the lady at the counter when I offered to pay said that she could not accept cash for the payment because it was too early in the morning. So my credit card which I was trying not to use at all, now has been charged $91 for a car that I did not want, and they charged me $50 for a half tank of gas. Beware! I did call the company and complained but their customer service is in Philippines and we couldn't really understand each other.

Now back to extra charges... We had to extend the rental for another day, we got stuck in the way back and that was ridiculously high...58dolars a day when original Priceline price was 31/day. We returned the car with some dirt in it, like after two weeks use and nowhere in contract was specify that car has to be thoroughly clean on return. The guy who check out the car said it's everything ok so we finished paperwork, pay extra fees for extending time and thought this is it. Well week letter the new charges start peeling out and charged to our credit card. 203dol for car cleaning!!! 45 for tools when we pay everything in cash (they forgot to mention that car has built in easy pass and charges will apply). Then they add administration fees. It comes to over 300 dollars more and you can't dispute, they have it all in the fine print! So much for Advantage! No more!

Advantage charged us for E-Z toll and FPO (fuel purchase option). You do not need either one. FPO is a charge for a FULL tank of gas - not the cheap price to refuel as they state. DECLINE all add ons!!! They upsell you on the E-Z toll rental (which ends up being $12.99 per day) and they look surprised when you say you will pay tolls in cash if you don't choose it, and state that you will have trouble doing that as some of the booths are not manned. That's not true. Tolls are around $1.60 as you pass and and every single one is manned and clearly states - CASH. DECLINE the E-Z toll.

DECLINE the fuel purchase option!!! This is another upsell designed to confuse you. They make it sound like fuel is cheaper if you purchase this, you won't have to hassle with refueling, and it's just much easier (who wants to look for a gas station in an unfamiliar location right??). What they DON'T tell you is.... you just purchased the FPO (fuel purchase option). What this means is you are purchasing a full tank of gas. It doesn't mean that they will refuel your rental and refund you the difference. It doesn't mean that you will pay the $2.99 per gallon noted on the contract.

It only works in your favor if you return with an EMPTY tank. We used less than a 1/4 tank and paid $11.99 per gallon - the FPO charge was $53.98 They skew what they share to convince you that this option is a benefit. Our $88.51 rental ended up at $190.99! I'm really savvy and ask a lot of questions and this still got past me. Again.... DECLINE any purchase offer a rental car company presents to you as you pick up your car.

The staff charged me additional $200 deposit and mentioned will return back to my credit card if nil damage to the rental car. When I returned my car, another staff at the Advantage Rent-A-Car checked the car and thanks me for returning the GPS; also shared the deposit will go back to my credit card within 3-5 business days.

I was positive until I see my credit card bill and when I am away. The company didn’t return my deposit. My family and I have been calling the company to find out more about the charges but the company staff shared that’s nothing they can do and that’s the fuel charges. It can totally be a scam if the staff at the front counter can tell me such conditions and add in charges behind my back. This is really disappointing and I feel cheated.

If the staff tells me to come back with full tank or else get charges by the company, I will come back with full tank which doesn’t cost my deposit. Throughout my trip to Rocky Mountain, my fuel charge was $2.60 per gallon and what made the company think it’s okay for them to charge me $158+ for the fuel at the end, which is $8.99 per gallon. Sorry but not sorry to say that I will not step my foot into any Advantage Rent-A-Car outlets after this first and ever experience with them.

The rental was reasonable at a per day rate. It's the add-on fees and "extra" charges that will turn what once was a good deal into one where you might as well just rent from one of the bigger companies. You probably will save money that way. For example, if you are late even by a little (we weren't but just FYI), they will charge you double the price of your entire rental. They will also stall at the return to drive up the time. Make sure you document when you drop it back. We arrived at the airport at 7:30am, they didn't check our car back in until 9am. 9:30am was the time due - we just dropped the keys in the front seat and left after being passed up twice by the attendant for folks who arrived after us.

Don't do the auto-tolls. We drove by two tolls which took cash. They will try to tell you there are roads that don't accept cash - this is true so pay attention. If you incur a toll charge, you will pay $15 for the pleasure of paying the fee directly to the company - each time. We opted for the auto-toll but it was not worth the $10/day. Finally, they will charge you over $11/gallon to fill up your tank if it is not at exactly full. We returned with 7/8 of a tank (more we think but that's what they documented) and were charged $26 to fill it back to "full". Summary - read the fine print and maybe go somewhere else.

We were confused with the attitude and did not get a final invoice information. So we walked outside to find the agent and tried to get a final word. The female manager and inspector were hanging out in the back area when we found them and refused to let us clean the vehicle while we still had time. Another agent then started taking off his jacket as we tried to reason with them. And he threatened to beat us if we do not leave. We were forced to leave without an invoice of charges.

Until now, we are still trying to reach the company as all oversea reps can only report cases instead of providing any solution to us. We finally obtained an invoice after reaching to Expedia, which was their partner we booked through. The invoice includes a cleaning fee of $85, duplicated concession fee and duplicated state and rental taxes.

I have rented cars for 35 years and this company is pathetic to say the least!!!! From the airport pickup to counter and return it was just terrible!!! The car smelled like death and it was just filthy! The windshield was cracked and the tire pressure light came on everyday and I had to fill the tire in the back with air everyday! I rented in Denver and drove it to Colorado Springs and gave a call to customer service immediately to be told that they could do nothing and I had to drive back to the airport rental to return it! Unfortunately I just had no time to do this and I pretty much was out of luck! So I was stuck with this crap for a week!

To top it off 2 weeks later I got surprised by another bill for a toll charge doubled what the tolls actually were? I was not sure why because I was under the understanding that this was pre paid and a service that was provided... The windshield had a sticker on it up to date paid by the company! Total bull!!! Terrible service, the worst I have ever experienced! I spent hours on the phone with many rude people during my trip to Denver to only get automated apologies by email! No attempt to resolve my issues!!

Even when we double confirm the requirement of this toll reader, he said, "You will need it." He also made us buy the full tank of gas ahead and did not mention that there will be no refund on any unused gas. We had our tank 3/4th full and there was no refund. Such a bad experience.

The agent at the counter then asked me to "initial here" that I declined the additional coverage. I later found that it was added to my bill. When I asked for a refund, I was told that I had agreed to it and that they had it on the contract. When I stated I declined it and it was added without my knowledge, I was offered a 50% refund. I demanded 100% and was referred to customer service.

Their Voice of the Customer department contacted me and told me the charges where valid. The agent also lied about their Fuel Program. She stated I would only be charged $2.39 per gallon for whatever fuel need to be added after I returned the vehicle. I was actually charged for a full tank of fuel even though I returned it with almost a full tank. I had to file a complaint with the BBB. The line snaked through the office and out onto the patio area. I waited about 45 minutes and then got an Uber to the Hertz office nearby. Had to pay slightly more for the rental but at least I didn't wait for hours. I overheard several people say they had pre-paid for their rental at Advantage so they had to wait it out. We rented a car from Advantage several weeks before a trip we were making to Orlando, FL over the Columbus Day weekend for a wedding. Our JetBlue flight was delayed by 2 hours, and we had called Advantage from the Hartford Airport to warn them we would be late to pick up the car in Orlando. The rep told us this wasn't a problem since the car was reserved for 24 hours. When we arrived at the desk the rep told us that ALL THEIR CARS had been rented and furthermore that all the other car rental companies were also sold out (we now realize this was a lie, but we know for a fact that they would have charged us an outrageous price). He said unapolegetically that we could take a taxi or an Uber to our hotel, which was 35 minutes away.

Since it was 1 a.m. and we were too tired to argue, we took a taxi to our hotel--it cost us $56.58 (our 3-day car rental from Advantage would have cost us $80!!). The rep told us to take a taxi the next morning back to the airport to be reimbursed and to pick up a rental car! Seriously???! It was tempting to give him and his manager (he blamed everything on "the manager" who never made an appearance) the well-deserved digital response, but we refrained from doing so.

We plan to send a letter of complaint to the Advantage CEO, with copies to Consumer Protection and the Better Business Bureau of Florida, although we doubt it will do any good at all in view of the company's unethical, dishonest business practices. The customer service rep (Meagan at Denver Airport) added the collision waiver insurance (CDW) to my rental agreement after I specifically refused it orally at time of rental. I was not aware of this until I had already returned the vehicle. Advantage Customer Service stated they would investigate and provide a reply why this happened within a time frame of 48 hours which didn’t happen. An email was sent requesting status of the issue which was never answered. When finally contacted by telephone, Advantage only agreed to refund 50% of the cost of the Unagreed to CDW insurance. I believe I was defrauded and lied to by this company and will never use them again.

The man that answered (after the many times I called someone finally answered) told me that I just had to be there before 9 because they closed at 9 pm. I gave them my name so they knew the name of the reservation. Arrived at 8 pm and ran outside to look for shuttle (while family got luggage). No shuttle. Called them and after several calls finally someone answered. They told me that my reservation was cancelled and that they had no car. As a result we were stranded at the airport for hours. Phoenix Sky Harbor - I had the worst customer service at the beginning of my FIRST rental experience with Advantage. I rented a car on 7-24-19. Upon arrival the front desk salesperson had zero personality, offered me no additional insurance and worked at a snail's pace. I was second in line and by the time I was done the line had expanded to 9 plus people with a 2nd agent finally showing up to assist. Once I was directed to the location of the car rental I proceeded to the spot. Upon arriving, I gave my name. Basically it went like this, "You're in stall 34, inside the car you fill out the sheet yourself for any problems with the car." The keys were slammed on the counter and not even an exchange of pleasantries were exchanged. I knew right then and there this was going to not go well.

Once I checked the car, I had difficulty trying to lower the seat. Alas no one was there to help figure it out. I didn't see any dents on the car so I proceeded to drive out. The person in charge of checking the rental agreement made no greetings. In fact didn't say a word. Just looked at the papers and open the gate. Once I got past that I noticed that gas was diesel. That's pretty interesting that a VW was running on diesel. Then I realized that I ordered a Camry not a VW. Again, I got a sinking feeling that this was all going bad. I then noticed that the tank was 3/4 full. It dawned on me that no one offered me any additional insurance, which I always buy.

Upon returning the car, the representative said nothing other than ,"You're going to be charged for returning the car for less than a tank." I told him the tank was 3/4 full. His response "Do you have any proof?" (with an attitude) At this point I had enough. I told him, "This is the absolute WORST car rental company in the business, absolutely horrible customer service." He just walked away. I went upstairs, asked for the manager told him the story and basically just got brushed aside. He offered nothing but his esteemed resume of 15 years at Avis and made no reference of acknowledging my situation other than he was surprised I wasn't offered insurance since it's a way Advantage makes money.

I will be putting Advantage on notice with reviews on Social Media and do my best to make sure your horrid customer service practices and the quality of employees you have are exposed for your style of business. My business motto will now consist of this '"Anyone but Advantage." I'd wish you luck but I know it would be insincere. What you should do is find another job. This company wont last.

I had not been told about the mileage charge when I picked up my car (and it would have been difficult to try to get another rental last-minute elsewhere). If I had rented the car as their contract stated, I would’ve basically paid the same amount as if I had gone through a reputable company such as Avis or Enterprise.

I prepaid for a midsize car and when I got to the airport they tried to give me a compact. They said they did not have the type of car that I had reserved. Miraculously they found one within 15 minutes when I complained. Not only did they try to give me a substandard car which I did not agree to, they charged me almost $200 for fuel that was unfounded. I've rented cars from Advantage about a dozen times at DFW, AUS and SAN. Every experience has been good with the only problem being an occasional queue to rent the car costing me perhaps 15-20 minutes. Other reviewers have made many references to being charged unexpectedly for extra drivers, a full tank of gas, upgrades, insurance, and tolls. Yes, Advantage does try to upsell its customers, but in my experience they do this no differently than any other rental car company. If you don't read and understand what you sign, it's your fault.

There are also concerns about not having an SUV or other preferred car. This can also be a problem at other rental car companies. It's possible that, being smaller, Advantage doesn't have the flexibility that others do if a prior customer did not return the car on time or had an accident. Having said the above, I would be concerned about the issues raised about tolls in Florida where it seems the toll barriers accept cash AND read the transponder to charge the customer. This problem must exist at other rental car companies too. I'm not sure how to avoid that problem aside from completely avoiding toll roads (which is what I do whenever practical). I would like to see Advantage offer a cheaper option. I'm also concerned about loss of items left in the car, though again the renter has to take some responsibility too. I lost a nice pair of headphones in the same way on a rental from a different company....

I decided to try this company based solely on price and I did not read the reviews so I hope this helps someone. I prepaid with Hotwire (paid $112) for everything and declined coverage because I have my own insurance. When I arrived to the counter at DEN, the guy just came back from smoking a cigarette and was talking to me about taking time off.

I gave them my license and told them that everything was prepaid. He ask for a card to put a deposit ($300), then gave me a paper to sign to release the vehicle to me. I signed and went my way. The next day I saw a charge for $98 and when I called they told that it was for insurance coverage. They offer to give me a %50 refund. The point is that I was never told what I was signing and it was my fault to sign without reading first. I read in other site reviews that this is a common practice with them, to overcharge. I ended up paying more, I should have gone with a more prestigious name, where they clearly explain your paperwork before you sign. I will never use that company again.

My wife and I are frequent travelers, and we rent cars often. We have used a variety of different companies. In June, for the first time, we used Advantage EZ Rent A Car at The Denver International airport. Note: We know that some companies train their employees to try to get extra sales from each customer transaction, so we are careful with what agents say and the offers and fine print that they provide. LORENZO, our agent, convinced us to take an upgrade which worked out fine. But he also pressured us into taking the E-Z Toll Pass with the rental ($9.99 USD/day x 9 days=$89.91 USD).

We declined but he persisted that it would be very difficult to avoid the tolls which have very expensive penalties if you go through even once. He specifically said that besides the toll charge each time you go through there is a $25 penalty if you don't have the E-Z Toll Pass. Which, FYI, I just went onto the Colorado E 470 Toll Website to see if that was accurate, and it is not. It is a $5 late fee, not $25. The $25 is if you don't pay after several notices and months of tardiness. So that was lie #1.

LORENZO said that "if you don't go through any tolls, the amount will be refunded." Based on that condition, we accepted and agreed on the rental. WE WENT THROUGH NO TOLLS; WE AVOIDED ALL TOLLS DURING THE TRIP. Upon returning, we awaited our rental invoice watching to see if that E-Z Toll charge would still be on the bill. Sure enough it was! Which we had a feeling it would be. So we phoned the 1-800 number on the invoice and spoke to a representative to file a complaint and ask for the refund. After explaining the situation, the agent was not able to authorize a refund. So I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager to resolve the issue. He escalated the complaint to a Denver manager (Natalie) to make a decision. He gave me a complaint number, and said the Denver manager would phone us back outside of 48 hours. We left us at that on Thursday evening.

As of Monday evening, we had not yet received a call back (surprise surprise), so I called the 1-800 number again. The new agent informed me the Denver manager had made a decision on the complaint not to honour the refund. He didn't have a reason to the decision or why they hadn't returned the call. So, I explained the details again to him. He didn't seem to care. I asked him if he thought it was okay for Advantage employees to lie to their customers? He was quiet and didn't know what to say. I asked to speak to his supervisor.

It took over 30 minutes, and the agent kept coming on saying she was busy but could I hold. Eventually, he even said the supervisor authorized a 20% refund. I said it was 100%, or I wasn't getting off the phone. I was transferred to a Sara ** (she wouldn't give us her last name), but her employee number is #**. She was the top supervisor. But who knows if anything they told us is true. She was very hard to understand, the sound was quiet and muffled. She quickly went into a long 'fine print' rant saying the contract was already closed, and the Denver Manager had made the decision not to give a refund, and that she could only offer us a 50% refund on the charge. I declined.

I again asked her if it was okay that the Denver agent Lorenzo straight up lied to us? She didn't address my question... We didn't use one toll, and in fact it was really easy to travel around Colorado and the Southwest without going through any tolls. This is a really short version of everything that was said, but in short an employee lied to us, the company didn't honour their commitment, and don't care that they are scamming customers. In the end, she gave us an ultimatum: take the 50% refund, or the call would be disconnected. How is that for customer service? We took the refund, but we will absolutely, 100%, NEVER USE Advantage Rent-A-Car ever again. Customer retention is important in business, and the word of mouth. No matter how big the company is.

Advantage Rent a Car placed my family in an unsafe vehicle and gave us the runaround on additional toll charges. AVOID THEM! Here are the details:

    1. The day after driving the rental van to the vacation home, we found that the front passenger tire was losing air. When we contacted the company they told us that we could either drive the van back to the airport (45 mins to 1 hr one way depending on traffic) or have emergency roadside assistance come down, change the tire, and charge us a large sum of money to do so. Both of these solutions were completely unacceptable in resolving our issue. First, I was not willing to sacrifice time from my children's Disney World vacation to drive all the way back to the airport, and secondly, I was not going to pay to repair one of their vehicles when they sent me out with a faulty, unsafe tire to begin with. This forced me to have to stop multiple times during the week at a service station in order to fill the tire up with air. They refused to offer any resolution for this inconvenience.

    2. Advantage charged $54.36 to our credit card for unpaid tolls. This was entirely inaccurate in that we paid all tolls. So, we called to ask how we could prove the tolls were paid. They directed us to a third party company called the Highway Toll Administration, LLC (NOT affiliated with the govt even though their name sounds like it) which apparently bills Advantage for the tolls. We contacted them and were told that we needed to provide proof of the payment. This was impossible in that a) the first toll allegedly violated was an "exact coin" toll for $.75 that did not provide receipts, and the other tolls were allegedly tolls with no booth that send a signal to the van's "transponder." Still, we contacted the FL Department of Transportation as well as the Central FL Expressway Authority.

With regard to the first toll, the FL DOT told us that it was owned by the Central FL Expressway Authority, and the Central FL Expressway Authority told us that it was owned by the FL DOT. Neither were able to tell us who we were to speak with in order to obtain proof that we had paid the toll. And neither offered any proof to us that the tolls had been violated. In desperation, we turned back to Advantage Rent a Car. We described the hours we had spent trying to track down proof, and that we were being asked to do something impossible. Since they were the ones who charged us, we asked that they simply refund us the money and then they could take it up with Highway Toll Administration or the FL govt entities. Their only solution was to direct us back to the Highway Toll Administration.

When we said that we had already tried to resolve it with them to no avail, they sent our information to one of their corporate customer service workers. Later they informed us, with no explanation, that they believed we were charged correctly and then directed us back to the Highway Toll Administration. They took absolutely no time to consider our case and that we had done everything within our power to resolve it but continued to pass us off somewhere else when ultimately they were the ones who had charged us. In summary, Advantage Rent-A-Car placed us in an unsafe vehicle, refused to offer an acceptable solution to make it right and then gave us the "run-around" in trying to resolve these simple toll charges which could have been an easy outcome. We have filed a complaint with the BBB.

The shuttle bus driver was very helpful and check-in was ok. It was almost 1:30 AM and raining. We were not asked to inspect the car (which would have been difficult due of limited lighting). There were no storms during our stay and in Breckenridge we parked in an underground garage. Upon returning the car, we were were told there was hail damage and that we had to fill out an incident report before they would accept the car.

While trying to explain all this to the return guys, I overlooked my camera bag in the back seat. I recognized this on the ride to the terminal and immediately tried calling the number on my rental form. It was an automated system with no local contact. We then asked the airport helpline if they had a local number but it did not connect. To go back meant missing my flight. I filled out a lost and found report on a website but evidently whoever inspected the vehicle failed to turn it in.

The camera, lens, filters, memory cards, National park pass and related items were valuable but the lost images of the Air Force graduation and all the family events surrounding it were even more of a loss. When I finally reached a real person at the their Florida headquarters I was tersely informed "we can't do anything about that". The people in Denver know who was responsible for checking returning vehicles on the day in question. I have looked at my copy of the rental agreement and see nothing about them not being responsible (there was a lot of language about my responsibility during the rental). Be careful of the fuel charges. If you buy full take from them you must return it empty or you will pay for a full tank regardless of what is still in the tank. Be aware. A full tank can cost you $80.00.

Rented a car from Advantage in Burlingane California April 11th. I received a ticket because the car did not have a front license plate. A 161.00 dollar ticket. The ticket fine could be reduced to 10.00 if the license plate issue was corrected. When I returned the car I gave the ticket to the men taking the car back and told them about getting it reduced to 10.00 if they fixed the issue. I also told them, "I am not liable for the ticket." They said, "Of course not" and that they will take care of it. Lo and behold a month later I get a charge to my credit card for 161.00. I called customer service. The lady told me that she would need to send this to someone higher up because she could not refund the money. Well it's been 4 days and I haven't heard anything. I will never ever rent from Advantage again and I am suggesting no one else does either.

What else can I say, overcharged, surprise fees and they will NOT respond to my requests for communication. It's sad consumers and basic economics can't open up a better and more transparent hassle-free car renting service. You have another option, TURO.

So friends, remember that amazing post about how amazing it was to land in Denver, get a new rental car, etc. Well... Advantage Car Rental is HORRIBLE! We were prepaid through Hotwire with insurance! We just received a charged for $167. They are claiming we returned it empty (it was half full) and you can clearly see by our picture and the documentation from Advantage that it was empty when we first picked it up. They also snuck on an additional insurance charge without us knowing. So if you are traveling and if you have any other option, I would suggest you take it. They hurried us along so fast which I thought was nice but now realize that they were finding every opportunity to screw us over. The gentleman on the phone wasn't rude but basically said prove it and we will see if we drop any charges. Learn from our mistake! Don't trust a company with no customer service and a will to deceive. ????

Booked a rental 1.5 months in advance for a midsize SUV. Arrived to pick up vehicle and was immediately asked if I wanted to pay to upgrade to a convertible. After declining, I was advised that there were no SUVs avail and was offered a minivan. Why bother making a reservation in advance? I did not want a minivan. I had no other choice to take the van...very disappointed. I will never use this company as they cannot fulfill their customers request.

Rented a car from Orlando Airport as we have done many times before. Guy at the counter asked if we wanted the “Fuel Purchase Option”. Just bring the car back without filling up and they will charge a certain price to fill it back up. They don’t tell you they charge for a full tank of gas no matter how the tank reads when you bring it back. We brought it back over half a tank full and they charged us $50 for a full tank of gas. Called customer service and were basically told “too bad” even when we told them that’s not how the Fuel Purchase Option was explained to us. Will NEVER rent from this company again.

Representative repeatedly stated how “busy” they got so he started talking quickly and asking questions without relating everything. He was asking was charging us extra!!! Him: “Did you want to add a driver to make it easier for you?” Extra $40. Him: “Basic coverage or extended?” Didn’t know I didn’t have to choose one. Extra $91. Him “Just bring it back empty, we’ll take care of it for you.” Only used 1/3 of a tank. Extra $44. Him: “The toll roads are all over the place, people don’t realize that”. We went through 1. Extra $29. Him: “Wow, we just got busy. I’ll go through this as quick as I can.” There were 3 people behind us and initialing on the credit card machine does not allow you to review your charges.

I have filled out their survey and got a standard response ("Sorry you didn’t have a good experience"). Unless I’m refunded some of what they stole from me, this is by far, the worst car rental I’ve experienced. I was manipulated into being overcharged by the associate, which I now think they train them to do.

On 5/16/19 went to the Advantage Chicago O'Hare location to pick up RESERVED minivan to move my daughter home from college. Was informed all minivans and larger vehicles had been given out. Was offered a compact car instead. I asked what could be done; was told "They could do nothing" and other rental companies might have a same-day rental minivan. I asked what would happen if I was there with 5 children off a flight for vacation. Told same answer because "They had no minivans; nothing they could do". Staff was not rude just matter of fact. Apparently this is Advantage's normal business practice. Never will I reserve a car from them again- BEWARE.
