    They bought out Bounce, who I was originally with, so I just rolled with the buyout. Everything was kinda auto-rolled over and it was cool. When I dealt with the rep, it was straight to the point and it was fine. The only weird thing that I found, and it could be across the energy world altogether, is that when I re-up my contract, it's cheaper to go shorter contract than longer contract sometimes. It seems like they don't wanna log their customer in for longer.

    I had used Direct Energy a few years ago and I did not enjoy their service. I thought their bills were high. At the time, we were having financial difficulty and I needed help extending my bill and they weren’t the friendliest. But I went back because all our contractors were saying Direct Energy was offering the best deal at the time, and I was like, “We’ll try it again.” It’s been a completely different experience this time. If they were looking to change their image, they’ve done that.

    I’m happy right now because my electrical bill is really low. But the weather’s been temperate and we’re cognizant. Last summer and the summer before, our electrical bills were $300 and it’s been 87 for the last year. So, I love that. We don’t have any billing issues as well. I am set up on autopay, and so, it just comes out. The electricity was out a couple of times though, but that was not Direct Energy’s fault. We had an older transformer, and so, sometimes our block would go out and that was handled by Oncor. They came out and fixed it.

    At the new place that we were living at, they only gave us one option and it wasn't that great. We googled and went with Direct Energy. We do the free weekends, but the fixed rate is a little higher during the weekdays. So, we're paying still the same. It's a little high. We were thinking about switching to a different company, but I haven't taken time out to research yet. Other than that, it was easy to renew with them. We also have autopay with them, and their online access is easy. They send me a weekly email of my usage. So, it was cool.

    When I got out of military, I stayed with a buddy of mine. He had Direct Energy and there was a referral program. I signed up with them and it was pretty flawless. I moved a couple of times here in Houston and everything seemed to be okay. The fact that I don’t have to talk to them at all is probably the best thing. They’re doing a great job because I don’t have to talk to them.

    Direct energy was canvassing in the neighborhood and their rep, Billy, showed an interest in me as a potential client when explaining their service versus through a script of what they needed to say in order to get it changed. The rate change with their service was appealing. It's also cleaner air than the air that I've had previously. I had the filters that day that we changed, and this time it didn’t seem to be as cluttered as it was prior to that. I've been very pleased with Direct Energy and when I wrote the check to pay the bill, I was happier.

    I’ve been with Direct Energy for about 40 something years and didn’t want to change. They just said they gave me a cheaper pay. If anything ever happened, they would be out here in a hurry.     I found Direct Energy through one of those websites where you put in your address and it tells you who is the cheapest provider. In the beginning, I decided to go with them because of the price. I have them for my business and my personal stuff. However, I was a little disappointed when I renewed after one year. I liked that they always send you the weekly usage statement. I was disappointed when it renewed that I was getting free weekends and yet there was no plan comparable in price that would offer that. So, to get the same price, I ended up having to lose the free weekend thing.

    Nevertheless, I have used other electricity natural gas providers and the ability to communicate with Direct Energy was important to me. That was one of the things I stayed with because whoever I had before, you never could get a person on the phone and that aggravated me. I have left companies where you can tell that their call centers relate in a foreign country or that somebody can't communicate good. I don't want to struggle to understand a word of what you are telling me if we are supposed to be communicating, and I have never experienced that with Direct Energy.

    I could always pay my bill on time, but I know Direct Energy kinda assess the late fee rather quickly. I'm not late that often, but one time I was late and I got slapped with a $30 fee within days. Although they waived it when I called. I always need to call them and ask, which has been helpful. They have the most reasonable price with the plans. They also offered different plans to kinda help save money with the free nights or weekends. I got the free weekends. I used to have a townhouse and now I have a house. My bill is still never over $60 a month. And I have kids and I work from home. I've had Direct Energy for years and I always tell people that they are really good.

    Direct Energy purchased a previous company that we had been with and we’ve been with them ever since then. I’ve never had reason to leave. The service is great. I can get everything in emails. Their website is really simple. I never get confused on there. I find everything I need, which is really my bill or if I need to send a message in.     Direct Energy has the best package I can get at the location. Initially, I got the no-contract plan and when I re-upped with them, it was the free weekend plan.     I have had TriEagle before, but where I am living right now they recommended Direct Energy, so I went with them. The signup process looked easy for the most part. I have a 12-month contract and they put me on some plan. The person who was helping me was new, so she had a little bit of trouble figuring out how to get me signed up. They gave me false information when I first signed up for Direct Energy. They ran my credit and they said that I had no deposit, but then they tried to charge me a $400 deposit. It took me three people, but I finally got it resolved and I did not end up paying the deposit. Everything, since then, has been fine. I have got my first bill and, so far, it's good.

    Everything's fine, except when I renew the policy. It's a pain in the butt. Half the time, they get confused and they don't know what they're doing. I had to keep calling and they would say, "Well, it's not time yet, you had to wait till this day," or, "I don't know what I'm doing. Can you call back later?" And then I'd get renewed but they would call back to say it was time to renew.

    My parents used to have Direct Energy and they had really good reviews. But they changed because the prices were changing and it was a lot easier to bundle up with another company. They also wanted do nights instead of weekends because they were mostly there at the nights. They wanted to change it before the advertisement for nights and weekends came for Direct Energy.

    I called Direct Energy, asked about the prices, looked online a little bit more and then I signed up. It was easy and in a couple of days, they had everything set up for me. I can see my usage in the website which is a really good idea. But it's not super accurate and it's not very up-to-date as much as often. I wish it was a little bit more. Like in the summertime, when it gots here, I wanna know how much my AC is going. Usually it shows a flat rate and that doesn't really help me figure out budgeting.

    I was very upset with Green Mountain. When they came over, they didn’t explain anything to me. I didn’t even get an acknowledgment from them. Then when I got my bill, it said that if I cancel before, it was $290 for the cancellation. I called CPL, an old bill that I had, and I was moved to Direct Energy. Up to now, I’m happy with Direct Energy. They were very nice to me and they waived the $250 that I had to pay when you cancel before time.

    When I moved into this apartment, the manager recommended me Direct Energy. I'm really pleased with the service and the product. They gave me like nine cents per kilowatt for two years. I also recommended them to one of my cousins because he had a CenterPoint and they were really killing him. If I refer somebody, I make 50 bucks, and he also gets 50 bucks.     We had a walkthrough on the Direct Energy website one time. I haven't tried it in a long time and now, I can’t log in. I have two different accounts, and for some reason, it will only let me do one. I’ve called them before and we’ve never been able to clear that up. We also tried to set up a new account and it wouldn't allow me to set up a new one. Other than that, their representatives have always been very friendly and helpful. Dealing with them has always been really good. I also haven’t had any issues with the quality of service from them.

    I got a little upset with my electricity provider so I switched to Direct Energy. It seemed very easy to sign up with them. That’s why I switched so abruptly. I had a hard time paying my first bill because I couldn’t log on to their website. It was about the time all this virus was going on so it was nearly impossible getting anybody on the phone and I just gave up. Then I finally tried again and had somebody help me and I got it done. I tried to log in the website one more time when my son was asking me about different things that I was paying and I had no problem getting on. The bill was a little higher but my son said that it would all average out. I’ve just paid my first bill from Direct Energy. It wasn’t a great bill as I thought but it was not terrible.

    We signed a three-year contract with Direct Energy. I live in a two-bedroom home. When I was just coming in this two-bedroom, my electricity bill was never $100. This time, it went up very high and I paid $170 something. I understand that I use more electricity now. But I never paid electricity for almost $200. There are many other companies that sell their electricity cheaper than Direct Energy. And there were a lot of other providers who told me that they would pay the breakdown fee if I'd come with them. So Direct Energy should be able to break the contract and reduce the cost for their customer. Direct Energy is not a bad company but they are also not the best company.

    Some of my friends told me to use Direct Energy and it has been good, so far. I spoke with someone when I signed up and the process was super easy. But when I moved from one location to another and had it transferred, they started my year contract again even though I hadn’t finished my year. That didn’t seem right. Direct Energy was a little bit more expensive than the other places but they had free weekends. In the place I renewed, I’m only at home for two weekends a month. So, it’s perfect. I only had really cheap electric bill. This will be my first real bill at the new place since I've been laid off. It’ll be interesting to see how much will be the cost now that I'm at home all the time.

    I am using Direct Energy for the last five years. I tried finding the other cheaper ones, but I didn't find anything, and it's also a hassle. So I stuck with Direct Energy. But their service is kind of bad. I don't like the customer service. Whenever I have questions, they don't have answers for that. They kind of have a weird attitude and I'm not satisfied with their customer service. They have to take care of their customer. If the customer is saying something, then they have to take it seriously and work on that. But every time, whenever I have any questions, they say I have to call a certain number. They don't give direct answers. They direct you to somewhere else. They must be knowledgeable in their things and about the questions that are asked.

    Direct Energy has been a great company. They have good customer service and good rates. I have a house and an apartment and we have the same rep come in here. I have a yearly contract with them for 14 years and they let me know in advance when my contract is up. They'll ask if I wanna re-sign and then give me incentives if I do. Also, their reps will call just to make sure if there are any billing issues or if they’re doing anything with the website. If you’re a good customer, you get treated good. That’s for sure.

    I love Direct Energy. They had the lowest rate but they had it locked in for three years. That wasn’t too friendly but I locked in with them because it was a low rate. After the three years, their rate went up some but I stayed with them because whenever I'd have to call about anything, I'd get a really great experience. The customer service is always prompt and available. Normally, their contract lasts for one year now. They always send the email to renew with them a couple of months before and because I have the online portal, it’s not hard for me to pick a rate and renew. They don’t advertise much and sometimes when I tell my friend about it, they’ve never heard of them. Other than that, everything that they’ve been doing is awesome. I have a friend right now that’s getting ready to sign up with them, too.

    I’ve used Direct Energy for a long time. I looked at what they had to offered and most of the plans benefit people that use more energy than me. I didn’t use much electricity so almost every plan they have doesn’t seem like it really benefits me. I live in a one-bedroom condo. My last bill was around $40 for the month. I wash dishes about once every week or two, depending upon how much I use. I don’t cook in the oven very often. I don’t wash except whenever I have a full load. I do as much energy conservation as I can. I’m 70, and each time it’s time to look for a new plan, I try to see if I can find anything out there. like power to choose if I can get the bill lowered because as get older, every year, expenses go up and I’m on a fixed income. So if they have anything that will help seniors, that’s always a plus for me.

    When I was looking for a provider, my friend had Direct Energy and they were cheaper than what I was getting. I pay the bill every month, but two months ago, I had to cancel my card so I cannot pay with my card anymore. I have to do it places where you pay your bills. I’ve been doing that because I have emails coming through telling me that I need to pay this and that.

    I have two different addresses for my light and I want separate bills. I’ve been trying to call this month because I have one bill for 135 and the other one was 45. I was confused about which one was what. Their customer service has not been really good. I’ve been trying to call this past month about my bills and they never answer me. I just get tired and hang up. I have to pay both bills and I don’t even know which one is for my son and which one is for me.

    Their service has been good, but I have a concern that every year when the contract expires, I don’t get notified. My bill just goes up and I don’t like that. I noticed it again and I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve noted it on my calendar. The company pays for it, but it’s tough. I deal with customers all the time, and I would think I would notify the customer when there’s going to be a price increase.     We've been with Direct Energy for 11 years now. My husband had a major coronary four years ago and they always worked with us and never hounded us about being behind on payments. They just give a reminder and set payments up. We have a contract with them and with it, we get better rates. I let my contract lapse one time and then I got an energy bill. I thought "what did I do" and called it in. Usually, their contracts are for two years but that time, it was only for 18 months.     I had Direct Energy before and decided to go with them again. I've been with them for about 3 months, and I've never been able to pay online. Last month, it didn’t take my payment for some reason. Someone actually called me and then I paid through the phone but it didn’t take and I was not notified of that. I didn’t get an email or any type of notification for me to make a different form of payment. It was left in the clouds. When I went back to pay for the next month, then I saw the issue. So the communication there wasn’t good. Then when I tried to do it online again, it still wouldn’t work. I’m not even sure if they’re working this month but I paid for April. Another lady called before and I was able to pay through her. In comparison, with the online chat, the experience was more of me having statement in front of me and I could copy and paste the statement versus it being personal.

    I Googled how many providers are available in our area and Direct Energy was advertising free weekends, which I thought was pretty cool. But now that I’m looking at it, it’s very expensive. It’s only been months but the previous bill was the most I’ve ever paid. I was planning to call them after I get this bill for the month of March. Also, it’s hard to calculate all these expenses, like the delivery fee. Every energy company says they're only charging 11 cents a kilowatt or whatever but with the fees and everything, it’s more like 19 cents a kilowatt. It’s almost double of what is advertised.

    I've been with Direct Energy for seven years and my bill with them has been better than most. It's definitely better than TXU. Things have been awesome with Direct Energy. It's just that I've been trying to call their help assistance line since yesterday and I've been on hold all the time. They keep saying that it was a 20-minute wait then there's a 46-minute wait then there's a 23-minute wait then there's a 38-minute wait. I'm gonna have to sit down today and just try to do it online. I tried that last night and it wouldn’t load. I'm guessing because too many people were on it.

    The power is expensive because every time you go through another person, it just adds to the price. But there’s not much I can do here in Texas about that. It’s the way it is. I renew my contract with Direct Energy once a year and the process is easy. But it’s tough to make a decision on what plan you wanna go with because there are so many different plans. That’s frustrating and I hope they can come up with a one set rate. And the free weekends is a bunch of baloney because that's what I've had and I really don’t see any savings.

    My mom has Direct Energy and she told me that her light bill was really cheap so I went towards the company as well. When I signed up with them, it was pretty fast. They're pretty much hands-on because they try to get you a plan where it fits you the first time. They found me a plan that it fit me really well and my bill was really cheap. It was good.

    But when I had to renew, the person that was in charge that I talked to didn’t really have that much experience in trying to find budgets for me. I had to go onto their page then looked up for a plan that kinda fit me. I had to tell him and he didn't wanna give me the plan so I told him that that was plan that I wanted. But he told me that was based on certain watts. But I insisted that that was the one I wanted. He was trying to fight not to give me that plan because it was cheaper. That experience was the experience that I had recently that I renewed.

    My wife called to renew because I was really busy at work at that time. They told her one rate of the light bill and never sent me the contract saying that she said the contract was set up. I called the second time. They then gave me another price on my light bill and I didn’t like that. They then signed me up. I was talking to the lady and she was asking if I wanted to sign up for an insurance that they had on there. I said I didn't wanna be signed up at all. She kept on repeating and repeating. I kept on saying I didn't wanna be a subscriber because they were gonna charge me money every month to be into the insurance. But she didn't care. She kept on doing her policy stuff.

    When I checked my bill, they haven't charged me for the insurance but they enrolled me into the auto-pay that I really didn’t know. I got a message from my bank telling me that they withdrew the money without my consent. I told them I didn’t wanna be subscribed in the insurance or with the autopay. But Direct Energy still went ahead and did that. That was the only bad experience. The experience that I have with them now is not as bad although it’s been pretty bad these couple of times that I had talked to them. I've had a bad experience with electricity bills.

    With the last time that I talked to the lady, if I said no then she didn't have to keep on repeating. I didn't want to do that. They should also try to find me the best option plans that I have payment-wise. Everybody nowadays is trying to save as much money as they can. I’ve talked to good ones and I’ve talked to bad ones. There were times that I've called and had a bad experience. Other days I would call and I have good experience. They told me everything that I wanted.

    It was a couple of weeks back that I chatted with someone in their live chat and I told them that they could email me my bill on my home because I had to refinance my house. As soon as I said if they could do that, they sent it to me quickly. I liked that. I had no bad experiences with them. Everything else has been pretty good.

    I recommend Direct Energy back and forth. I’ve gotten bills before saying that I’ve gotten money taken off my bill because of my recommendations going towards them. I tell others that this electricity bill’s really good and they go with the company. A couple of months back, my friends got their house and didn't know what electricity bill was really good. I told them Direct Energy is pretty much the best electricity that I’ve ever had. They’ll call you and tell you if anything’s wrong. I was called based on the customer service that I had with them. That’s good because with any other energy company, they don't really care about what you think. They just do whatever they want.

    We’ve had Direct Energy for a while and everything has been good. I recently purchased the house, and around that same time was time for me to renew my plan. The last bill we got was a little sketchy. I asked them about it and the rep quoted me a monthly price of 400 and something dollars. If that’s the case, I’m definitely going to leave because that’s ridiculous. It’s just me and my husband and I have no kids, so I’m not gonna pay a $400 electricity bill. Their rep, however, was good. He knew what he was talking about. He was quick, nice and answered every question that I had.

So, every time I would call, they couldn't find my account. They finally got that figured out. We are on permanent service and residential now and we cancelled the temporary service.     I’ve got three houses with Direct Energy. They put a temporary pole in the house I was redoing then when the house was almost complete, they put in their regular meter with a different meter number. I was trying to cancel the temporary one and I don’t understand why they can’t understand that I don’t need two meters at one house. I couldn’t do it on the phone. I gotta fill out all the forms then fax it, which most people don’t do anymore. But supposedly, it’s done. Now I'm sitting there paying two different meter bills. Other than that, Direct Energy has been all right and it’s better that we get the best price in our electric bill.

    I’ve been with Direct Energy for quite a while. I talked with them and their numbers were lower than some of the others that I talked to. I’ve always had TXU and Direct Energy was lower numbers in the kilowatts so it made my electric bill cheaper. They have usually been good every time I called them.     Direct Energy bought out the company I was with before and I ended up being one of their customers. I had T.W. Phillips Gas in Pittsburgh before and they were awesome. With Direct Energy, usage doesn’t seem to fluctuate much but the bill fluctuates. Getting locked into their plans is kinda crappy too. Customer service was all right though. Direct Energy does what it says but not for a fair price. I’m looking for something less expensive when my contract expires.

    Someone came to my door and said they were offering great rates at 3-year lock-in price and my bill was pretty high at the time. The sales rep was excellent, very personal, helpful and to the point. He looked at my correct bill, did a calculation to see what it might be with Direct Energy, and I agreed to switch. I was paying around $160 a month, and my last bill was around $10 plus I got a credit from Direct, so I don't have a bill yet to pay off my old energy company to cancel the contract.     The salesperson was very convincing and they told me about all these good rates. I had them for three years and then I had to renew the contract.     When I was online looking for a provider, Direct Energy was initially the cheapest and most reasonable. But it fluctuates very much here versus in other locations. Previous carriers kinda stay the same, but Direct Energy is based on the market, and it may still very well be. But I have lived in different places so the markets may be different. Also, when I tried to get a better rate, I was very unsuccessful and the Direct Energy rep was kinda short over the phone. I wouldn’t just count them out, but they aren't my first choice. I'd tell anyone who asks about them to be careful.

    I’m not with Direct Energy anymore. One of their workers came to my house and helped me to change. He told me some information and that I didn't have to worry about charges for early cancellation. I told him I’m not gonna move because I should renew my contract and I cannot cancel it. He said, “You don’t have to worry about any of that. We’re gonna take care of it.” I said, “Are you sure?” He said, “Yeah.” “So, how do you do it?” He said, “It depends on your bill.” My bill was $250, so I sent him a text with the photo. He then said, “All you have to do is pay $50. The rest, we’re gonna take care of it.” Even when I asked him, “Are you all gonna pay that?” He said, “Yeah. Everything is in process, so you don’t have to worry about that.”

    I waited and waited and I got the other letter saying that I was gonna be sent to collection because I haven’t paid. I called and texted the worker but he never answered. I was like, “The company keeps calling me that you are not paying that.” I called Direct Energy and they told me he gave me the wrong information. What they’ll do is just give me credit. I was like, “Why did he tell me that? I have all the messages. I have everything that he told me.” He just disappeared out of nowhere.

    I just got really upset because I was just wasting my time, so I decided to go back to Ambit Energy. I spent three hours for them to move me back to Ambit because they kept saying, “No. We can’t do that. You’re already here. We’re giving you the credit.” I was like, “Yes, you’re giving me the credit, but I’m disappointed that I had to waste so much time thinking something was gonna happen and it never did because he gave me the wrong information.” They're the ones that actually moved me back to Ambit.

    My mother was using Direct Energy in her apartment and it had free weekends. I thought it sounded awesome so I went for that on a consumer site. I have two accounts with Direct Energy. I signed up for the residential account online. The rate is 13.4 cents per kilowatt-hour and Friday nights, Saturday and Sundays are free. Also, they activated right away. We just bought the house and it took a while for us to move in but they had the electricity switched over the same day. Within an hour, it was all on. It was awesome and I'm happy.

    For the business account, it's supposed to be 5 cents per kilowatt-hour and I locked it in for three years. For my first bill, I used $11 worth of electricity. Then my bill came out to be 140. Then the next bill is in the 2-something rates. I was a little upset about it because it was ridiculous. It's like I got blindsided and I'm not happy, assuming they average on this 5 cents per kilowatt-hour but it's not even close. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt though and maybe it's just like the first month.

    My friend talked about how much he enjoyed working with Direct Energy. I was with TXU beforehand and it just seemed like a lot of their charges were not making a whole lot of sense. Direct Energy has a good price. I went with the standard plan with the same month-to-month and I didn't go with any special deal. However my friend gave me a referral code but he hadn't seen anything on his bill and I hadn't seen anything on mine.     Direct Energy's reps were very courteous. It’s just a little bit hard to understand because their accents are really strong, but they're really nice and friendly. There was one time where they sent a confirmation of services to the house and the amount wasn’t right. I called them about that and everything got taken care of. We have the free nights, which is from 9:00 to 9:00 every day. Our bill varies a little bit but it’s better than what we were paying with the other company.

    A person from Direct Energy came to my door selling their service as a natural gas company. I have National Grid as my provider. I was told that by switching to Direct Energy, I would save money every month on my gas bill. I was told that Direct Energy would charge less per therm than what I am paying with National Grid. I got my bill and the amount owed had gone way up, while usage had not. When I called National Grid for an explanation, I was made aware that, in fact, Direct Energy was charging me more than .20/therm more than National Grid. In the winter, this adds up very quickly. In addition, with National Grid, I use balanced billing so that I do not have a huge bill in the winter and a very small one in the summer. The salesperson for Direct Energy told me I could continue that. That was also not true. So instead of paying $150 a month, I received a bill for $327.

    This makes me so angry. They took advantage of the fact that I did not have the knowledge of exactly how National Grid charges to make false claims. My mistake was to trust them, and it has cost me a lot of money (I have to pay for 3 months or so with Direct Energy before I can get back to my original plan). I keep my house very cool in the winter, to save money and energy. So now I have a cold house and an unfair bill. Do not use them!

    I heard about Direct Energy when I was looking for an energy company about 10 to 12 years ago, and I've been with them since. Over those years, the one thing that I like is that every year, my rates go down. It went down about 3 or 4 cents per kilowatt-hour. Although it goes down, it doesn't go down much -- I just get a change in the bill. Their customer service is okay, but what I don't like is they always try to sell you something, like to upsell your current plan, although you are calling in for an issue. I've been with them for over a decade and the only time I hear from them is when I call them. They should also check on their customers.

    On and off, I've been with Direct Energy for 10 years. With them, I like that my lights come on. I'm very simple. I pick a company and stay with the company and let it self-monitor. They've got the service turned on and billed correctly. All of that has been fine. I've not had any interruptions of service so I haven't had to call customer service, but they've helped with paying my bills when the voice response system was out. I've got service in two different places and one is on a plan with very little forward notice. I was interrupted at one time and reverted to a different billing rate, which they corrected but they could have a little more proactive service to keep customers informed on what's going on.

    In the beginning I was happy with Direct Energy. But at the end I wasn’t so happy in terms of the rates. They had changed my rate without me knowing and said that I signed up for it. And I actually didn’t sign up for something. So there was no method to dispute their claim and I didn't like that. Also I added another address and I hate the fact that they couldn’t put it all under the same contract. So I have my service at my home and another service at an apartment complex. But they have two different rates.

    It’s very hard to understand what is the price for my home and what is the deal for the other occupancy. I went and talked with someone before and they showed me how to do it. But I could never figure it out. And then every time I paid online they said I have a dollar left to pay. And I said, “I just paid the whole bill.” Their reps were very professional, helpful and patient. They walked me through things but they can only do so much.

It does sound like your account had a fixed-rate contract, which expired, and the account transitioned to a month to month, variable-rate plan. We certainly never want our customers to be surprised at the rate they are paying, nor do we want to transition a fixed-rate account to a variable rate unexpectedly. For these reasons, and as required by law, we send out end of term notices to any account that has a fixed-rate contract expiring within the next 30-60 days (the requirements on when the letters must be sent vary by state). As a resident of the state of TX, you would have received your notice as part of your monthly billing and you will also check the variable rate on the current bill. The end of terms notice would have included the expiration date of the current contract, instructions on how to renew into another fixed-rate contract (either by phone, chat or via your online account) and the important disclosure that states if we do not hear from you by the expiration date, the account will automatically move to the month to month, variable rate pricing. Our goal is always to operate as transparently as possible and in the best interests of our customers.     The plan that they had was very fitting as far as the packages because it was a set fee. I have a family that uses tablets and laptops.     The apartment manager gave me Direct Energy's name and number for the area. I was getting an apartment, and it was the first time I was gonna have to pay electricity. I called two people and I went online to look at the other person. Their price is good and makes a lot of sense. And it sounded like they were gonna raise in some kind of way. And then they said, “Go with Direct Energy.” I went online to them and it was clear, you could just understand it online. They were more straightforward about the pricing. I called Direct Energy up and they turned it on, and that was it.

    It was an easy process. But I was supposed to get some prize and I didn't know what that was or that it was coming. And so when I had received a package in the mail a few weeks later I was confused and said, “This isn’t mine,” and sent it back, and didn’t know because it wasn’t marked. And then it turned out a coworker also had Direct Energy, and there was something about if you give a friend’s name but it was two days past and you had to do it within 48 hours but it was like the third day. So I missed out on that one because I didn't know about it. It was a little confusing.

    Also I didn't know they were gonna charge me $40 on top of my bill when I moved. So when I got my bill it was $70 more. Plus I was trying to do the back pay for the previous apartment, and it was like over 100 total. And I was kinda like what happened? I almost thought that maybe I got charged for both apartments. I had to do some research to see if there was a $37 reconnect fee. I don’t remember them going over that, but I do remember them selling me on a protection plan. And so, here I am, buying this protection plan, and there was a $40 on top of the new protection plan, plus the past bill and the new bill. They could have said something because then I could have asked if I don’t pay all of it at once, how is it gonna affect my bill.

    It wouldn’t have been so bad if It had been like $5 or $10 because the protection plan was 5 bucks. But when the fee is 90% what I normally would pay, that’s me paying two months’ worth of electricity and not being aware of it and assuming that if something has gone wrong. But I researched it first. I didn’t just call in, all angry, “What’s this money on my bill?” But it was like, “Oh, there’s a fee. Okay, good to know.” Any time I’ve called in, it’s never been an issue. I spoke with a person because it was my first time and they answered all my questions. So I would recommend.

    Customer service at Direct Energy needs to improve, especially when it is the time around renewal. If I call and ask questions sometimes it feels that they are not well-informed or don’t want to disclose a lot of information and want people just to sign up. There has been some confusion in the past. And when I moved my electricity was not transferred directly. That has given me a hard time with the apartment complex because they do require that you set your transfers way ahead.

    There was one time that I was trying to do my renewal and I was asking questions between one plan and the other and the lady was just not there to the point that I had to say, “Thank you very much. Goodbye,” and called again to get another representative because I really got very frustrated with that. And what I was asking was how many kilowatts before I could get the rate and she couldn’t really tell me. I don’t know if it’s lack of knowledge of the actual product, or just policy of not disclosing a lot and then have people signing blindly. But other than that I recommend Direct Energy. I will just disclose that customer service is a pain and I wish it would improve. The rates are competitive and I haven’t have any issues with having no power.

    I recently retired and have been reviewing my bills. Years ago a gentleman we had signed up with a company Energetix that offered alternative supply at a discounted price. We tried it and it seemed satisfactory. I never really looked at my bill after that. Apparently Direct Energy purchased Energetix. We were never contacted or made aware our supply charge would change in price.

    When I reviewed my bill last month I realized I had been charged $1.139/therm. My own power company as well as many others were down in the .30/therm range. I called Direct Energy and they said they must have sent me some notice years ago notifying me of their purchase of Energetix and the new rates. I told them I never received any notice. I told them I was canceling and switching to my own power company. They immediately offered me .42/therm. That upset me even more. It amounts to real money not pennies.     Direct Energy is better than most. The only bad thing is they don’t let you know if they're gonna kick up on the kilowatts until it’s already done. But everything goes up. Initially, I asked how much is their kilowatts. Their rep told me, and he asked me what I had been paying. I showed him, and at that time, his was only like 5 cents for the kilowatts, which was way lower than to what everybody else was.

    I've been with them for about eight years now. The year before, the heat was abominable. I’m on fixed income and somebody said they would pay $100 off my light bill. So, I called Direct. They wouldn’t give me a cutoff notice. They said, “Your credit is too good. You’ve never been late. You're always early, so we can’t do that.” I couldn’t get the help because I was such a good payer. I have never been late in all these years. I’ve never had a cutoff notice. But they did tell me that if I need help of not being able to pay it off, I have to let them know and they would not cut my power off. That is good. Some of the other companies won’t even tell you anything. They’ll just cut it off, but Direct has never done that to me. A lot of people ask me who my company is and I have told a lot of them. Direct Energy is excellent.

    I’ve been a customer of Direct Energy for several cycles now. It’s kind of a tough thing because I feel like I could get cheaper rates out there than Direct Energy, but I haven’t had any issues. I got burned years ago with the deregulation where the provider I had went out of business, and it got to be really ugly and that was with me trying to find someone else. So I’ve been kinda leery about switching to someone that’s super cheap just because their cheaper and Direct Energy is something that’s reliable.

    I got the 12-month plan and then I just log in to my account. Usually, there’s a link there that says, “Hey, you’re eligible to renew.” And then I just click on that and compare the different plans that are out there, and choose typically another 12-month plan and go from there. Usually, it’s like my rates are a penny more. It’s not terrible. But I have slipped past contract dates from time to time. They kind of penalize you if you call them so I try not to do that and just do everything over the web. But other than that the service I have is really good.

    I moved into a rental home and the landlord was already using Direct Energy. I did some research and decided to stick with them and never had any issues. I really like the plan that I’m on with the free 12 hours from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM. I never had a bill that was outrageous. I talked with their customer service rep setting the system up at the first rental house I was in and then I transferred it to another place recently and everybody was really helpful.

    I had Reliant at one time and they wouldn't give me any kind of discount for being a customer with them for so long. I ended up switching to Direct Energy and I never left. Signing up was really easy and even with all the renewals, I did it online every year. Then if I was looking for something else, I would just call and confirm with customer service.     This evening I had two Direct Energy representatives come to my door to have me switch my current service to them. When I asked if I could review and sign up at a later time they told me no and that I had to sign up tonight for a “fixed rate” because my current provider was beneath “Maryland standards”. When I asked to read statement they kept referencing from BGE, the salesperson was talking continually and asking me questions while I was reading as a means to distract me from what I was reading.

    When I told them I did not understand the terms they told me that I would be switching to a fixed rated instead of a variable rate that would be cheaper; they did NOT tell me that the said rate was only for 10 months. I did not know that until after reviewing the contract I signed. When I asked were they selling me a different provider, like the two other businesses that came by prior, they assured me they were not. I was blatantly lied to and deceived by your company and would like to cancel my enrollment immediately.

    I’m not happy with Direct Energy. When I moved into the apartment, I shopped around. I went online and selected Direct Energy. Then I started dealing with them. The weekends were free, which got me to take the deal. However, the rate is a little higher than the rest of the energy suppliers.
