    I've had a really good experience with Direct Energy. I was referred by a coworker of mine several years ago and this is my second go-around with them. I like their rate and the free weekend. Renewing my subscription with them was very easy, too. But one time, I got an email saying that my service was going to be canceled. It turned out that Encore had used my address for a new service for another customer and was canceling my service. But I didn't cancel my service and I was not moving. And Direct Energy is resolving that for me.

    I was referred by my father to Direct Energy and I signed up with them because the kilowatt was a little bit more, but I got 12 hours that I don't pay for anything. I have security lights at that house which are going to be on at night. That's when I don't pay for any kilowatt, so it seems pretty convenient. Signing up with them was really easy, too. It’s a brand new house, so I didn't know what to do. But they made it easy. However, on their website, it'd be cool if they could do the usage where there's a graph showing your lights that are getting used the most throughout the day. I paid almost $40 this last month but no one lives in the house yet because it's still getting built. It was a lot given that I turn the lights on every now and then when we’re there working on the house, but no light in it is on for four days.

    I have free nights with Direct Energy. But, the man who set me up with them got me two poles and had a bunch of issues trying to get that straightened out. I had one meter and he told me that what I had was Ambit so I got charged for letting it go.

    We heard a radio ad about Direct Energy and their two free nights or two free months thing. We signed up with them and the process was easy. I also had a great experience with the person that I spoke to. We got on the 12-hour power plan because we're home at night and we use the energy then. So far, Direct Energy is doing great and we have no problems. Most of the time, for some reason, any energy we've had would just randomly cut off. But Direct Energy hasn't done that to us.

    I usually use my app. The only issue that I have is, I have my fingerprint enabled for everything and for some reason, Direct Energy does not accept the fingerprint. I can put it on there and it'll just sit there and load and load. That's all it'll do and it'll never connect. I have to use my username and password on the app on my phone. Apart from that, I feel good. The Direct Energy reps are very helpful. Everything that I needed or any question I have, they always have an answer for it.

    Direct Energy's customer service has always been great and that's important. But when we were enrolling, there was this huge misunderstanding. There were two different companies involved, Direct and Gexa. Initially, Gexa ended up taking the order because at the time, we were service shopping and Gexa had connected first. When I found out that it was Gexa that was the provider, I called both companies because we wanted Direct and not Gexa. There was this long conversation and Gexa was supposed to do whatever they were supposed to do. And Direct was doing whatever they were doing to get the services from them.

    Then, I didn't know who did what or what happened, but the good part about it was everybody that I talked to was more than willing to help and figure out what was going on. However, I found out that Direct hadn't put the order in properly for the initial request for them to take the services from Gexa, so it didn't go through with the TXU people over here, the people who actually process the whole thing. And that was the reason why the switch didn't happen right when it was supposed to and Gexa had disconnected services.

    We lost services completely from 4 o'clock in the afternoon and it didn't get turned back on until 11:00 the next morning. And we have four children, so it was not fun. We have a six-month-old baby and she had to spend the night at my brother's house. That was totally traumatizing but everything after that, service-wise, has been fine. And I know that Direct didn't do it on purpose. Plus, they ended up fixing it. But it took them a while to figure out what the issue was and that was because I was pushing and pushing.

    Also, the one thing that I noticed that was really a pain during that time was the fact that there's a number that you call. Then, Direct Energy has another company, under the same umbrella but a different name, depending on what part of the state that you're in, and the main number that you call into will direct you to the other company sometimes. But they can't do anything for you down here. So maybe they should tell the employees which number to give out or who to transfer you to because they were jacking that up every time and they kept sending me to the wrong people. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with Direct Energy.

    I moved out of the house in Spring TX in September. In October, I was supposed to move into the unit so I told the representative to disconnect the lights in Spring. He said it would be easier if I just keep the service and let them know where I'm moving. I told him that I didn't even know if I'm approved. He then said that they could wait and that they wouldn't have to turn them on right now. I didn't get approved and now, they're trying to charge me a bill for a place I've never lived in, and it's someone standing there who used the lights for a month and a half. Direct Energy went back and listened to the call. They claimed they didn't hear him when he kept pushing the point about that. They only listened to part of the phone call that they wanted to listen to. They also told me that it was my fault I didn't call back and tell them that I didn't get approved for the apartment and now I owe them a bill.

    Getting signed up was pretty easy. But I've had an unanswered question from Direct Energy outstanding for a couple of weeks. I know that Direct Energy has been awarded like the best energy supplier this year and in their mission statement, their logo is about transparent pricing, but I haven't had that experience. I've called and spoken with three people on how my bill is calculated, because the plan that I signed up for was the Twelve-Power Hour. It advertises a rate of 11.5 cents per kilowatt hour. But when I get my bill, it's charging me 16 cents per kilowatt hour, which is not what I thought I was signing up for. I still haven't gotten a clear answer from them. But I did figure it out myself.

    It's calculated as 16 cents per kilowatt hour minus all of your free energy over those 12-hour period. Then whatever's leftover, you divide that plus all your fees divided by however many kilowatt hours you used that month. That gets me my average rating. So I don't agree that the plan that I signed up for was transparent. It's possible I would have chosen the same plan, however, that wasn't made very clear to me, which makes me not feel respected as a customer. I'm pretty good at looking for asterisks, which take you somewhere else to read the fine print, but I don't recall anything that told me about any of that. So it makes me feel tricked as a customer.

    I've been with Direct Energy for so long and the bills have always been pretty good. Sometimes other people tell you the energy costs but they don't mention the whole deal and then people are surprised when they get those rates. But Direct Energy tells you the whole deal upfront. I called them when I renewed my plan and everybody was nice. But they give you a price but then you know that other companies are lower. So you have to almost threaten to go elsewhere because they can give you this rate. Then all of a sudden, they can pull that same number out of the hat. But Direct Energy is not the only company doing that. I also noticed with them and other companies that the longer you've been with somebody, the more you pay. I don't like that 'cause we're basically paying for the new customers that they lure in with really low rates.

    I set up Direct Energy on automatic pay. I also set it up for average billing and it increased by about $25. I called and talked to somebody and they said that, "Yes, there had been an increase." I said, "Well, is there anything that I can do or what can we do to offset this increase?" They said, "Well, we can put you on this such and such plan." And then, I got an email about two hours later saying that I was set up on that plan and it got down to respectable levels again. It's very simple.

    Direct Energy was giving us free weekends. But then I changed it to the normal rate. I noticed that we were paying more even having free weekends versus us having a lower rate and just having electricity normal. But for some people with more kids during the weekends, it might be easier for them to have free weekends versus not having free weekends and having a higher rate with a different company. Other than that, Direct Energy's rates are pretty good. Then I usually call in when it's time for me to pay and it's pretty easy. It already has my information, so I just call in and it says it recognizes my number. So, all I have to do is press “pay my bill”. Also, the rep explained my concerns pretty good and he was very professional about it.

    Since we moved into our house last year, we tried to request the usage and no one was very helpful with that, especially the provider we had. They refused to let us know even remotely what our usage was going to be so we ended up with a package where we were paying 300 a month for just a 2,500 square foot house, which was out of control. This provider also got confused and they turned the power off for a whole week that we weren't living in the house. When they turned it back on, they fried our pool pump and they said it was our fault for not checking in.

    We switched to Direct Energy and they are definitely an upgrade from our last provider. So far, they have been pretty transparent with the billing and everything. Everybody was helpful in getting the account set up. The auto-billing is nice as it automatically takes out the payment. The prices were really competitive. The deal that we got and the service that we are getting is pretty nice. Direct Energy also called twice to double-check on us and make sure we were happy with the service. That was good. They have great customer service. Everything's been excellent and the energy is still working.

It was what I saw that was cheaper for just month-to-month because I didn't need anything long-term. I was just trying to get some work done at that house. It was just a month-to-month type deal. Whenever somebody decides to move in to that property, they can take it over and I could just cancel that and then they can do their own.     I received a letter in the mail stating Direct Energy has a 5 star rating, lower rates, and if I sign up I’ll get a $750 rebate. It’s been 3 months and my rate is higher than my previous company, and after 3 phone calls, and contacting the Better Business Bureau I still haven’t received that rebate as promised. Also, the last two phone calls the rep kept me on the phone 45 minutes, and on every call they pretended they have no idea about that rebate. I kept the letter so there is no way to lie about it. At this point I’m just researching another company and finding out how to get out of this contract lie they sold me. What a rip off. I left my previous company of 3 years for one that has a website that is just for show. I hate Direct Energy. Stay away people. Once you're in they forget about you.

    The reps were very nice when I spoke to them. Sometimes my bills were a little bit high, but further than that, I like Direct Energy. But my plan was better last year than it is this year because my bill wasn't as high before. I work at night and the only thing I leave on is a light for the front porch and the bathroom. When I get home around by 3:00, I might leave the TV on till maybe about 5:00, and then I go to sleep because I gotta get back up and go to work at 4:00. I don't see savings on this plan.

    At first, I went with Direct Energy through a referral of a friend. Then I had moved many times but I always got them. It was because their prices were good. Also, they've always had an easy website to go into and make a payment and make changes. Then They've always had really good service. And then their renewal process is very easy. I left them one time for TXU and it wasn't the same for me, so I came back.

    Every year, Direct Energy advanced. They adapt to the changes. They went from free nights and then free weekends. Their plans are competitive. Their website keeps getting better. Their service is exceptional. Then what I really liked this year that really surprised me is that they reached out to me and gave me a lower price because of how COVID was affecting all of us and it didn't extend my contract. It's the same price all year long. It equals out the same thing but I don't have to worry about bills high in December and low in the winter. I am extremely satisfied with Direct Energy and I don't see myself leaving for a long time.

    Direct Energy has been good, so far. I get light mostly through CenterPoint and then Direct Energy just sends the bill. I just got one small bill. But it’s cold right now, so I don't expect anything high. Direct Energy has a better, friendlier website to set up autopay and log-ins. It’s simple to sign up with any provider with that website. But always research and check the rates.

    Normally, I never re-sign with the same company once the contract is over because you don't get the best deals. So I don’t mind signing up one for three months if it's the best deal in that time and then signing one for eight months if that's the best deal in time because that's normally how you get the best rates. When I ran into customers that had Direct Energy, none of them really ever had any major complaints. So this was a company that I had in mind at one point to sign up with.

    I’ve been a Direct Energy customer for many years on four or five different properties. And the house I bought, I went with the existing provider just out of convenience, but as soon as the contract expired, I switched to Direct Energy. They have better customer service. The only negative experience I had recently is that my house has two meters, so I have two electric bills. The guy I talked to on the phone quoted me a rate that he could get me to switch them both over. I accepted that. The call got disconnected. But whenever I reconnected with someone else, they couldn't get me the same rate that he offered me. I asked them to just go back and listen to the phone history so they could verify it, so I don't sound like I’m lying or making it up. But they said that takes a lot of work to do that. So, I just let it go and went with the rate that they gave me.

    I just left Gexa and I'd done Amigo. I've done Direct Energy before too. Whenever you go to renew, they're always taking you to this default rate such that if you don't update or leave, you don't get to maintain the good rate that you get. I took a six-month deal with Direct Energy and it's working real well. I signed it up over the internet and gave them my bank card so they can hit it each month for the charge and off we go. They do have a great website for usage history. Those are always good. The one that we're using now shows a daily consumption rate which is interesting too. If they came out with a time of day rate, that would also be interesting.

    I'm still paying $100 a month to CenterPoint to manage the distribution wires. In the next two months, I'll probably start looking around as to what am I gonna do. I'm not sure if Direct Energy has something competitive to keep me. I'm always shopping. The beauty of a deregulated market is we get a chance to always go after the best deal. There aren't any switching costs unless you've got bad credit which I don't have.

    Direct Energy is better than Reliant when I work with people in customer service. They're very nice and they make sure I understand what I'm getting into. One time though, someone supposedly from Direct Energy called me asking for a $200 deposit I had already spoken to someone about. I wanna say it was a scammer but the rep said Direct Energy.     I used to be with Reliant a long time ago and they were kinda high, so I got away from there and looked for more of a budget. Direct Energy came up with a program, All Nights, Free Days, you have to use electricity. I tried it ’cause now that we’re home, we have more time in a day, and I was trying to get more from my money from day-wise as opposed to the night time. I just renewed about a week or two ago. I don’t like to keep changing and stream like with one company here. I wanted to stay with Direct because I’m more familiar with them. The rate was lower at the beginning, but this pandemic was higher because we're staying more time at home. I have to see my next bill when it comes up if there's any difference and I can really judge it from there.     We were on Cirro previously and they didn't come up with a plan for existing customers. I liked the website a little bit better for Direct. They also had a good price for the plan. I got a call after we started and Direct seemed a little more attentive to what's going on and what feedback. It was also an opportunity to sell some other service that came in later on that first call. But I didn't get any calls from Cirro. I’m on a nine-month plan and we'll see what happens in those months. What typically happens with this is the plan expires and then I go month-to-month and I'll get some email things. I'll start looking eight months to see what's happening with the plans and hopefully they've got change.

    I was in an apartment but I bought a house. When I transferred, I told Direct Energy that I wanted the service on a specific day. Even though my lease hadn't ended yet at the apartment, I wanted to move it already so I can get moving started. So they scheduled the cancellation but they never connected it at the house. They said they would have to wait for the people that were connecting and I asked them why they didn’t tell me that. They said that I was gonna have to wait till Friday. They did connect it on Friday but I already had three days without power and I have a kid and she was in online school. I had to accommodate for what they did and they just gave me $100 credit. I told them that I didn’t care if they gave it to me or not. The point was that I didn’t have power at the apartment or the house. And I didn’t have internet and AC.

    Aside from that, the guy was telling me about a protection plan when I moved but I told him I didn’t want it. I never gave him permission to add it but he did. He said it was $11 so that means my payment was $11 more than it should have been. I already paid and he said he’s gonna take it off but I haven't called back to verify. But as far as pricing, it has been good. I got the free nights and it’s 12 hours free. That’s been working out for me although I haven’t had my house in the summer so I’m not sure how it goes. There might be people that do better than me but I can afford it if something is good. Because of that whole moving experience though, if that's what happens every time someone moves, I wouldn't recommend it.

    One of our relatives suggested Direct Energy and it was alright when we looked at it, which made us decide to use them. We get the light and we're thankful for it, and we pay the bills. We made a plan that in weekends, we don't pay for the light. The lights used to be turned on mostly during the weekends when there was a school or work and during the weekdays, everyone would be at their own work. So, having the weekend plan was nice.     A Direct Energy rep came to my house. He was very respectable and polite. He had his mask on and kept his distance. He was very informative with any questions I had. He asked me if I had Direct Energy. I told him no and he asked if I minded him looking at what I'm paying for my electricity. I showed my bill to him and he said that from the kilowatts that I use, it would be more likely that my bill would go down some. He gave me his number and said that if I had any questions and concerns, I could give him a call. I gave it a chance and sure enough, it worked. I was paying close to $400 on my lights and when I switched, my bill came up to $117. You should get Direct Energy.

    I really like Direct Energy. It's great. I was on their Free Power Weekends plan because I thought that one would be better. We both work and we use most energy on the weekend. But I started working from home because of the Corona so we changed the plan since it was coming up due. That change was fairly easy. I called that in and everything went smoothly. With that change, it was half the rate to have it just like the same usage all the time. It's 6 cents a kilowatt and it's the same rate 24/7.

    I signed on with Direct Energy 23 months ago with promises my rates would be lower and the fees are cheaper but my bills were $30 higher than with my previous provider. When I complained they said "you signed a contract" (basically suck it up we gotcha). Last month they sent a letter saying I had to choose a new plan by October 20. So in an effort to save money during these COVID times with reduced hours and pay I went online to view their plans and none of them worked for me so I switched providers effective October 15. They sent me a letter saying that my contract didn't actually expire till November 30 so they're charging me $300.00!!!! For equipment removal fees and early cancelation.

    I called to see what was going on and spoke to Christina. She wasn't helpful so I asked if I could speak to someone else so I was put on hold. At 4:02 the account supervisor Jessie answered. At 4:23 took down my name and number again and put me on hold again until 4:35 and told me, "Too bad. You signed a contract. We're billing you $300.00 for the 45 days." She was very unsympathetic and rude, almost robotic in her responses, spiteful almost. I will make sure everyone in my family (and it's big) knows what they are doing to me during a pandemic. This is I would characterize as inhumane.

    Ben Franklin said "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Add to that, and Direct Energy will continue to harass you until until your dying day. I have tried and tried to get these people to leave us alone. That we are not interested in whatever it is they are selling. I have dealt with pesky solicitors many times in the past and most all will kindly leave you alone. Not Direct Energy. These people are from another planet. I have called their corporate offices to complain, wrote to my state's Attorney General, called my city hall to complain but nothing I do seems to get through to these people.

    They claim I am on their do not contact list but that is just a lie. I have seen the complaints about the deceptive selling practices and how people that try to cancel their service are made to jump through a series of hoops that a circus lion would tire of. Short of going to court and getting some kind of restraining order that specifies that they stay at least 50 yards away from my home I have come to the conclusion that there is no solution to Direct Energy. Like cancer. No cure. Because they are a cancer. They give sales of any kind a bad reputation.

    I was using one utility before and Direct Energy had a better price so I switched. I do all of my business over the internet and I have always been upset when a company asks for my password and ID number and I have to fill out all this stuff every single time. I like it when it's already filled out. All I have to do is log in and I'm there. But then one thing that I have noticed, which I've always felt really lucky wherever I moved and whichever service provider I had, my electric bill was very reasonable, when I've heard other people tell me that theirs was about two and three times higher than mine was. That's always nice to feel that I am comfortable with the cost.

    When we have contracts, and Direct Energy only renews these once a year or even less often, I forget about it. They even sent me a letter.     I found Direct Energy was lower priced at powertochoose.org. I have a more in-depth understanding of the overall electric market in the Houston area, and understand how the retail energy providers work and such. Simply the function of sending a bill is all they do. They buy their energy from wherever they want, and then they just send me a bill. Even though they're an electric provider, they have zero impact whether my electricity is on or off at my home. Most consumers wouldn't understand that. I understand it because I work for the company that does turn on the lights. My company, if the power goes out, it's 100% my company's responsibility and 0% Direct Energy's.

    Most people don't understand how they're operating in the market. All they do is my company tells them how much energy I use at my home and then they take that, multiply it times the rate I agreed upon with them and send me a bill or take the money directly out of my account. Pretty much, Direct Energy or any other company, as long as they can calculate volume times rate and send the bills, then that's all I need them to do. Direct Energy has met absolutely 100% expectation of what they should do. As long as they did their job, they did perfect.

    I've called Direct Energy a few times and they were not that user friendly. I called them this morning because I had forgotten that they sent me my bill electronically and that I had it set up as automatic payment. They automatically took the money from the bank but I paid them as well. I told the rep that it went out of my bank on the 20th, so it should be showing at their end. But the guy was completely confused, and said, “Well, no. Obviously, your bank must have mailed the check.”

    I told him it electronically left my account on the 19th to get to them on the 20th. But we just went around in circles. I told him that I was gonna give it two more days and that I will call them again on Monday and see what's going on. He said, “If we get it, it will just be put forward to your account.” But I want that money back because I've already canceled automatic billing. It's easier for me to keep an eye on my accounts by my paying my own bills. It was not a good conversation. Also, a lot of them do not speak good English. So you have to be very explicit with how you are telling them what it is that you are looking for and whatever it is you're calling them about.

    Our landlord for our property suggested that we get Direct Energy so we signed up for it. There have been a couple outages. One was for a storm. Something happened with the line. Then there was one a couple weeks ago that was kind of random. When there was a storm, I didn't contact about our service being down.     The rates with Direct Energy were better than with their competitors. At first, I was looking at Nueces Coop and they wanted a big deposit. I looked at Direct and they didn't need a deposit anywhere and the rates seemed pretty low. It was pretty easy to switch the service over. I called up and talked to Direct and it was pretty quick. I have the 12-hour power plan because when I was switching over the last time around, the customer representative mentioned that my 12-month plan was coming up and if I wanted to switch over to a new plan with free nights or something like that. He mentioned that I'm using most of my energy at night. But in the beginning, I was getting text messages with reminders that the bill is due a week before the actual due date and I haven't been getting those text messages anymore.

    Two ladies came over to my house. I was with Reliant and they said if I got Direct Energy, they would refund me $300 on the next deal and it would be a great deal to get because of my age. The first girl that came over couldn't do it right. Her manager was down the street so she came down to help her get through on the phone. They stayed on the phone for maybe an hour trying to get through to whatever department they were trying to get through to. They gave me all the paperwork and I switched from Reliant to Direct Energy. They were going through the neighborhood and there are a lot of elderly people that live over there. Everyone I've told got theirs changed too because they believed in my word. But we never got the money.

    I called them and said, "You're supposed to take $300 off the bill or either send me a $300 check." She said I got it mixed up. I called several times. Being almost 70 years ago, I got stressed with it and just left it alone. They didn’t honor their word as far as the bill being lower with the kilowatts. Because I'm hardly ever there and live alone, I only watch one TV, I only use the refrigerator, and I don't cook much. I don't know how my bill could be as high as they say. When I got the first bill, I asked how could my bill be that high? I wasn’t even in town. I was in Detroit at my sister’s birthday party for a month. They said they were going by the general amount in the area. That’s not fair. The lady said they would take off $25 but I don't even know if they took it off. It was a disappointing experience and I wouldn’t tell anybody else about them.

    I was originally with Bounce, and Direct Energy took over them. I then got a letter that said, "Hey, you don't have to do anything. Don't worry about it. It'll be a smooth transition." and it was, so I'm happy with that. Bounce offered a very competitive price. My grandmother used them and never had problems, and it dropped our electricity bill quite a bit. The plan also seemed really good for us, and it's stayed that way. The customer service has been good as well. After they went to Direct, it's been a little bit better.

    I met the end of my contract at some point and I just redid it. I didn't have to redo my contract. They honored it. From what I can tell, Direct Energy has an honest approach with their prices. You can look at it and be like, "Oh, that looks higher than such and such," but they're showing you the whole enchilada price. It's a lot of work trying to like dig through the weeds, but eventually, if you do, it pays off.

    I called back in August to renew. I have weekends free and my rate was reduced because I'm a "loyal customer". I'm going on my third year. We've been saving up laundry (laundry takes a lot because I have an electric water heater and electric washing machine and dryer) and any kind of major tasks that involve electricity for the weekend but my bill went up to $219.

    I was wondering what was going on and the gal just kept telling me, "I can give you the link." I said, "I don't want the link, I wanna know why my bill went up." She said I had more usage. I said I had more usage on the weekend, not during the week. I'm ready to cancel Direct Energy and go somewhere else. The way it's looking even though we're still doing everything on the weekend and we haven't used as much electricity, my bill's gonna be even more. I may as well just pay the $195, cut my losses and find a company that will better suit my needs. I am not happy with Direct Energy.

    We used one of those online comparison sites to compare the different energy plans and Direct Energy had one of the most affordable kilowatts per hour cost. So, on the average, it could be more affordable than some of the other ones that offer free nights. They seemed to be the most affordable and so far, that has been true. Signing up was easy. We went online and gave them our service address. The most difficult part is understanding how they bill each month. It seems like they bill based on when we started the service instead of the first or the end of the month. We signed up at the end of the month so we get the last two weeks of the month and the first two weeks of the month on our bill, which is a little odd.

    Direct Energy offers a smart meter so you can track how much you're using each month and what that looks like but it's not available at our service address. It probably has to do with the type of meter that we have. They could be more upfront about that because I thought that was part of this package and we just don't have the right meter, so that was a little confusing. So going forward, don't say that you have it if you don't.
