    My electricity used to be direct from the National Grid but I've used Direct Energy for a while now. They tell me when it's time to renew and I only hope that they'd make sure to give me enough notice because the rates skyrocket when my account expires if I don't renew. Then I call them up and they give me the next best rate, and they're clear and precise with what's available. The call takes up five minutes of my time and it's simple and straightforward.

    I was with Constellation before. I don't know how the winter is going to be, whether it's going to be hard winter and all of a sudden, the gas rate goes up high. So, I looked up some places that have fixed rates. I called Direct Energy and compared the prices. They're very knowledgeable, on the ball and they told me what the rates are, what I was paying and how much the savings are. I wasn't on the phone too long with them, they took care of me and helped me decide to go with them. I'm tied in for a year and a half so, I won't have to worry about it before I have to start looking at rates again. I've had a pretty good experience and I always tell people about their rates.

    When I switched over after a year Direct Energy needed me to re-sign up. And not knowing that they put me in a category where they selected the rate which was an outrageous rate and I got behind. They said they sent me letters. I figured I probably thought it was garbage mail and threw it away. But they never called me. They just went ahead and made the change.

    They sent it to Consumers who did the billing for Direct and the bill I owed them just kept building up. Since it was not Consumer’s problem they didn’t say anything. It was like $400 or more when I found out. They said it was on the bill but I just pay my bill as normal. And in the end they put me on a budget plan. They didn’t get off all ranting and I’ve been paying more back just to get cleared out. But I was really upset that they did it in the first place. They give a new rate at Direct Energy and I thought it sound like a good deal so I did it. But I wouldn’t recommend them at any place right now.

    I used to get electricity in the apartment from TXU but their people were not truthful. I called and told them that I was worried about when to send them the deposit money. They told me not to worry about it, that I’d get my first bill and I could pay it by then. A week before my bill came, my power went off. I called TXU and told them that I called and talked to somebody. They asked who but I didn’t get a name. They didn’t care and said I had to pay for a turn-on and a turn-off fee then pay more deposit to get my power back on. So I fired them and started looking for other energy resources. I found Direct Energy and I’ve been with them for years now.

    Direct Energy is 100 times better that TXU and they have never lied. They have always been upfront and courteous, and taken care of my energy needs. Their reps were also very helpful and got me on the new promotion that they had which I’m very happy with. I get a certain amount charged for a certain length of time and I get electricity free for the weekends. Direct Energy will pull ahead of everybody else if they continue to strive to take care of their customers as good as they’ve been and I’m going to stay with them. They should keep up the good work and they’ll be the major energy provider for years to come.

    It’s been a while since I had Direct Energy. Our electric company was originally Ameren and then Direct Energy offered me a $50 or $100 Visa card so I went with them. It's still built through Ameren though, their services were identical and the price was the same. I just had to make a follow-up phone call to get the card and I wasn’t pleased that I had to. But eventually, it did come in. So far, the experience has been adequate.

    Direct Energy is the first provider I had and I’ve been with them for several years. I signed up for it online. I once had to call for the re-upping of my plan. I also had a couple of questions before I signed up and their reps were really good and informative. There were two times where I accidentally let the plan lapse before I sign up for a new one. And both times, they increased it to something ridiculous and it went up five fold. But once I called them, they locked me into a plan.

    Aside from those two incidents, I recommend Direct Energy quite often. I tell everyone to make sure that they stay on top of when their plan expires. At one time, they went from $0.079 to $0.40, which I thought was kind of crazy. Overall, Direct Energy had better prices than TXU. My parents were with TXU for a long time and their bills were always ridiculously high. I kept telling them for years to switch and they finally did. And their bills were probably half now.

    I keep having people calling in and I don’t know what it is. A certain amount of time goes by and everybody wants me to change to their company. I had one that just did that and I told him I was not changing suppliers. He assured me that I was not, but in the end, what he wants to do is lower the amount I have to pay per kilowatt hour. But I was going to have to pay $100 to have my gas and electric changed, then get five different meters and it’s going to cost me $500. I said I’m not changing and told him to change it right back. I didn’t get any difference in my bill. I never got changed. If I think a provider is costing me too much, I will call and take care of it. Overall, I don’t seem to have a problem with Direct Energy. My bill comes and it gets paid. I have to pay a lot but it's the way it is. No matter who I'm with, I'm sure I'm going to have to pay more than I want to pay.

    My rate is lower with Direct Energy, and I like having a locked-in rate instead of a variable rate. I don’t like surprises and if something went up over the course of the year, my rate would be locked-in. That was one of the reasons why I chose them. Also, having Direct Energy has been economical. I’m on autopay and I had to contact them, get set up and make sure that it was compliant with everything, and all my interactions with their team have been positive.

    Direct Energy came around the house and at that time, their rates were lower. They also have a fixed rate and right now, I prefer them. We used Consumers Energy before and they have a flexible rate wherein you don’t know whether you’re going to get hit with a high energy bill or not. With a fixed rate, I know that my bill is going to be the same no matter what. Before my contract is up, I always get a letter at least three months before the contract is due. The letter includes the new fixed rate and a date for me to respond by. It also says that if I don’t respond by that date, the service goes to a flexible rate. When I get that letter, I call to renew the policy and I’ve never had a problem with it. The people have always been friendly too.

    I looked up energy sources on the internet and Direct Energy had the lowest rates at the time. I started with them and I've had absolutely no problems with them except for one thing. When I moved from my Galveston home to League City, I had requested a cut-off date for the time I was moving. But my electricity was cut off two weeks early and that was a real issue for me. That was very disheartening and when I called to complain, instead of saying they would get my power back on, I was hung up on. It took me three days to get my power back and I lost all the food in my refrigerator. However, I think enough of them and their rates and I have had no issues since then so I stayed with them.

    My previous provider never contacted me or sent paperwork confirming the length of time and I was just not happy with them. I went online and looked to see what the different amounts were, and that’s how I contacted Direct Energy. I went with them for electricity for the price and they have done very good. They contacted me and let me know the price and term. Once the initial contract was initiated, most of our interactions have been through the mail. I've gotten intermediate letters wanting to know if there’s any problem. They have done very good and I'm very happy with Direct Energy. I hope to continue with them.     I had other suppliers but when I switched to another one, they said that I still had to pay because I was supposed to pay for a certain amount of time.     We had a sales person come to our door with a lower rate than they gave us. I called to see why they were charging more than we were told and they said, “Well it’ll be a $99 cancellation fee,” so we said nevermind. Next thing we know they charged us $99 and sent it to collections and we got another bill today with 2 charges of $99 from collections from them. I do not recommended you go to them and will not be paying the $200 they decide to charge instead of contacting us about the matter or sending us a bill with that amount before sending it to collections.

    Every other year, I switch to the provider that's cheapest. Direct Energy claimed they can provide a cheaper service, and at the time I checked it out, that was correct. I went with them for the cost, and use them only for electricity. So far, my experience with them has been good. I'm getting a low bill, and that's the main thing.

    Direct Energy called me and they made good pitches saying they would be cheaper. I’ve been with them for six to eight months and their team has been polite. The experience has been okay but I have been running behind a little on my bill because I've been having trouble with work and they've been bugging me every day. But I talked to them the other day, told them when I was going to pay and they stopped calling. Also, I don't recall signing up with them so I'm still ready to do some evaluation on the rate structure and they can fill me in a little bit from their perspective whether it's really beneficial for me to be with them rather than PSEG.

    Direct Energy helps people with a fixed income. I'm on a fixed income, on disability, and I only get $735. I talked to energy companies and one of the ladies compared theirs with Direct Energy and told me, "I'd stay with Direct Energy for the price you're getting." Direct Energy was cheaper. I was worried about last month's bill and they ended up being $109 instead of $200. I've talked to one person at a time and they've been polite, nice, and explained things good to me.     This is the second year I've had Direct Energy. When I transferred to them, they gave me the quotes and they did the transfers and everything went good. At that time when I went with them, they were under AG order in New York state to give me the same deal as the other companies and they substantially reduced the cost.     We have tried on various suppliers when the year was up then Direct Energy’s price was lower per kilowatt so we switched. We’re on a fixed rate then we had just called and re-upped that. We have got North American that contacts us on intervals to try to regain our business. But we decided to stay with Direct Energy based on the deal that they were projecting. Their team seemed to be honest and straightforward, which is something we value. We had little communication with them unless we have a problem. The outages have been minimal and when we have that, things have been up and running within a reasonable time.

    We would recommend them to any company calling, they seem to be creating more options for us and trying to keep the prices competitive as possible. Usually, more options are good and the consumers are trying to get the best deal but the more options the companies put out there, it just makes it look like they’re trying to hide cost or trying to protect themselves too much thinking, “Well, in six months, the situation out there and the economy can drastically change and then we’re going to offer you a different rate,” which this is to protect themselves more than the customer. So, that gets a little bit much of all the different time periods. A year is a reasonable amount of time given this new situation with suppliers and we don’t want to deal with this for short periods of time. We also don’t want to be bothered all the time to try to re-up.

    I have been with Direct Energy (Blue Bill) since 2014. I am on automatic payments which have not been missed in the 3.5 years. I was to be on the blended gas/electric plan; however, I come home from work today and get a disconnection notice from Direct Energy Regulated Services - the ones who can take your power away - after all it's their infrastructure. Phoned Direct Energy and was told that the last year and a half - THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING DIRECT REGULATED FOR MY POWER!!! I have been paying faithfully off my visa on a paperless - payment comes off. Why look right - well let me tell you all - LOOK!! Now I am being forced to clear arrears in order to continue services. Their mistake - my burden.

    I wanted to find an alternative because I was not happy with BGE and Direct Energy was the only other opportunity in the area. Though my bills still come from BGE I’m now dealing with a different company. I’ve also used Teco down in the Tampa Bay area but I like Direct Energy and I’ve already suggested them to some other people.

    My service is now less expensive and I guess because of my age I had a discount through Direct Energy. I also receive a report that says how I’m doing compared to some of my other neighbors and I like to see that. I’m using more than they do because wife works from the apartment.     I signed a contract for less money per KWH than AEP. When the contract expired they charged me twice the AEP rate. It cost me hundreds of dollars and I was a big net loser in the end. It was my fault for not renewing, although I didn't see the renewal information. I'm very busy. They count on people like me to not renew and then hike the price up to make fat profits.

    Adding more pain, when I called to cancel, they offered to lower my rate, of course. When I refused due to the lack of trust I have with the company, they said it would take a FULL billing cycle to get me off their plan. That's two more bills at twice the AEP rate. Lovely. Why would people put their money with companies that can't be trusted to do the right thing?

    When the sales reps came to my door they asked to see my bill. When explaining how their service works they pointed to the Distribution Service and the Transmissions Service charges on the current bill and said that, under Direct Energy these two charges would go away. That they basically constitute retail vs. wholesale pricing. Those two charges did not go away. So now I'm stuck for the remainder of a year paying an unethical company for their services. This saddens me. What further saddens me is that I researched the company before signing. But I didn't see a straight up lie coming my way so I researched the wrong aspect of their sales pitch. Lesson learned... Hopefully you can learn from my mistake instead of having to learn it for yourself.

    Direct Energy was the first one that offered me gas and also, they told us that they are going to be a lot cheaper and that the price of gas is going to go up immediately. And I figured that if the gas is going to go up, it might be worthwhile and so I did it. But it turns out the gas never went up to above what they charged. It was always cheaper and so it was a total waste. Direct Energy is the only provider that ever had natural gas. It was always UGI until Direct Energy. But they tell you untruths. I kept records and on our bill, I know what I paid Direct Energy and Met-Ed and UGI say what they’re charging. I was able to compare and move to the map and UGI was always cheaper than Direct Energy so I lost money.

    My UGI contract came up a year but my Met-Ed contract is still going. Direct Energy sent me a paper two months ago saying that my contract was going to end in June and I have to give them notice. If I don’t give them notice, I’m not going to be renewed. I had to do it right away so I called them and the guy I talked to is brain-dead. I said that I’m going to cancel the renewal and he said that they were going to have to charge me a $90 cancellation fee so I said that I am not canceling now but I'm telling them not to start it over again. But I couldn’t get him to understand it. Before the 15th of July, I have to call them and cancel it but I said that’s not what the letter said. The letter said if I wait until the 15 of July, it will be too late. I was really upset about it. They sent a bill for $90 and I called somebody else and had it changed and the other guy I was talking to knew what he was doing.

    Direct Energy cost more and it was supposed to cost less which is the only thing I was going for. If they would have said, “Hey, we want to supply your gas and your electric and it’s gonna cost you $30 more for the year.” I would have said, “No. Absolutely not.” I canceled them, went back and use UGI so they shouldn't be supplying anymore. I’m not happy at all and I won’t ever do it again.

    Direct Energy's door to door salesperson told me that I would be saving money because I don't have a locked in rate for the meter so I wouldn't be paying any more or any less. And so, I decided to go with them for both my electricity and gas. However, the salesperson was incorrect and using Direct Energy was costing me more when they told me my rate would be locked and I would probably pay less. I called Direct Energy to figure out what happened. The person whom I spoke to at the time corrected the issue.

    But, I got a bill again about the next cycle and it was still wrong. And so, they changed me to another rate and then I ended up getting two bills. I got a bill from my regular gas company and then another from Direct Energy. It took two representatives and a supervisor to figure out that they put me on a split bill which I didn't agree to or was told about. While they said that should have been explained to me, it obviously wasn't explained to everyone because it took two reps and the supervisor to figure out what happened.

    From there, I told them to cancel the difference off of the termination fee. They then told me that they would send the bill. Every time I tried to pay the bill with the termination fee, I would call them and I was either hung up on, directed to a different department and hung up on again or told I have to make a payment directly to the gas company. I got a bill from Direct Energy and I had already paid the gas portion to the actual provider. It was horrible.

    Also, Direct Energy would keep calling me to make a payment even though you tried to make a payment with them. Furthermore, they don't make it easy to make a payment when you call. When I actually made a payment, they weren't able to give me anything in writing. While I have the confirmation number, I would like them to give me an e-mail confirmation so that if they call me again, I have proof.

    I wanted to get rid of Direct Energy after all those mistakes. I tried to give it a chance but every single time the problem is always something else. I was able to cancel their service today. I asked to speak to someone so I could file a complaint. Their representatives couldn't give me information on that and so I will file my complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Working with them was my worst experience with any service provider I've ever had in my life.

    Direct Energy takes care of me. The bill comes and I pay it. Everything has been good. But they relocated by meter under my property and turned my yard up. I wasn't happy about the clean-up as they found some big rocks and they just left them lying out there. I ended dressing it up. When I went down the street, a bunch of my neighbors got some straw down and grass. They didn't do that for my yard.

    I called them back and I told them that I wasn't happy. I work in the oil field gas myself and there wasn't a way my company went in there and did that. I'd probably lose my job over it. It was probably a third party company but I wouldn’t recommend that to other companies. It was pretty poor business-wise. I called Columbia Gas and their rep told me that they'll have them come out but I told them that it was too late and I already did it myself. I also told them what their company did and they are not welcome on my property anymore.

However, I also tried to go with another company and found that I was locked in but it's okay and I would stay put. I’m not concerned about them and it’s something that occurred.     The utilities like Pepco have such a monopoly and there should be competition. If I can get energy cheaper, I wanted to try it. The salespeople who came to the house from Direct Energy were really great and they went over everything very thoroughly. I've noticed the quality of the service and the cost of it are different however I haven't been happy with the billing situation since I switched. Also, I thought I was only signing up for my electric, the Pepco, but Washington Gas charged us huge bills and it's both utilities in the contract.

    I still have to go to the utility like Washington Gas for the billing stuff. I've been on the phone with them a couple of times and the time I'm on hold and then getting somebody who understands what I'm talking about have been very frustrating. I can't do everything online. Once, I sent an email to them about those payments and they responded, but they basically said, "This is the way it is." I just wish I had a new customer service people to deal with instead of going back to Washington Gas and Pepco.

    Being with Direct Energy added to my frustration these past three months. In June, I called them about it then and they said that was for incorrect meter readings back then. So I figured it's just one month but in July, there was another big charge for close to $200 besides the regular budget payment. I really don't have the patience to get into the details if they say it so and I just have to accept it. That did not get me off to a good start but I will keep an eye out in the future because I signed up for the budget payment like my electric and I don’t think it was the budget payment this month either because it's closer to $100, although it's air conditioning season.     Direct Energy had a better price and didn't force me into using them. Other companies were being really pushy and were telling me that I had to do this and that. Conversely, Direct Energy said that if I'd like to listen to what they had to say, they would talk to us. They acted like normal people and were very nice about their sales pitch. They weren’t typical salesmen. And that's why I've stayed with them. Everybody tried to get me to change but I don’t need to even talk to anybody else. They told me they can get me a better price but I can't get a better price than somebody who treats me the way Direct Energy does. I'm very happy where I am. Direct Energy has been very good to me and that means a lot. I'm very satisfied with them.

They also charged me with $100 fine for switching to Santanna Energy who lied to me and told me that they were Direct Energy. When I had an individual home, I was always worried about the service. They said that we will receive the same service but I never trusted that. Now, I live in an apartment complex and if I go out, everybody goes out, so they have to come and fix it.     I’m a renter of this house and part of my rental agreement was that all utilities were supposed to be taken care of. This house is in Michigan and the landlady had moved in July and she's now out in California. I've had Direct Energy as my electricity provider for a little over a month. They had switched systems and the billing system was recognizing not only her checking account, but also her credit card. The machine couldn’t decide which one to use, so it didn’t do anything. But the landlady was unaware that the electricity wasn’t being paid as she must not have been following her account.

    I came home from work and the electricity was off. The landlady was having difficulty getting through to Direct Energy, then she gave me access to the account by giving me the last four digits of her social security number and her access code. That night, I was able to get through to the automated system that showed what the balance was. I paid that but the electricity didn’t come back on, although from what I was told, it should have come back on instantly. Then I found out that when you pay with the automated system, it can take hours and sometimes until the next day or the next evening before the payment registers. Plus, because they had turned the power off, there was a reconnection fee and a new security deposit.

    Direct Energy knew that I had paid through the automated system but my payment didn’t show as a credit yet. I ended up paying all that again and a bill that was only around $500 with the security deposit and the reconnection fee ended up being $960. Now, the landlady has paid up on her gas and electric bill and she has a good balance.

    That was a big ordeal for me. My electricity, cable, and internet had all been turned off and I had to straighten all those things out myself. I paid Direct Energy with my credit card but I did not tell them to switch ownership of the account because they told me that I can do a one-time payment and it would still be in the owner’s name. Once they had registered all the payments, my electricity came on less than a minute later because I have a remote meter.

    Direct Energy did everything they were supposed to do and the service I got could not have been better. The only hit I would give on them is that there were several power outages that same night somewhere else in Michigan and I had difficulty talking to a person then. I got through to a person once, but I didn’t have the access code at that time, and then when I called back I got the automated system. If I could have still reached a person, half of the trouble could have been avoided, but that’s the only part of the service that fell short.

    A Direct Energy rep came to my door and asked to see an old bill. I showed it to him, and he said he could do a lot better. I was warned to call before the end of my contract each time we’d run out because then I would get really screwed and charged almost double the normal rate. I made sure I was on it. I called in and thought I had reset it up for the next year, but apparently, I didn’t ‘cause I received two bills in a row that were twice as much as what I knew they should have been. I waited another month and then it was high again. I figured out that I was dropped and didn't have them anymore.

    I like the service, but they didn't reinstate me, which wasn't acceptable, so I called and said that I wanted to do it again. I got the plan back right away and the bill was back down. Their customer service team was pleasant. At this day and age, Direct Energy is affordable for where I’m at, but it’d be nice to be warned or to get a good heads-up before having the plan dropped and then not being able to know ahead of time to reinstate it. Overall, my experience is as good as can be expected, and I’d recommend Direct Energy to a friend.

My bill comes from them and then on the bill, it’s divided up between supply and delivery. I called again and got an extension on the new .099 rate and it's been about 10 months. Since I switched away from National Grid, many of these alternate suppliers make a big difference.     I got a letter from Direct Energy saying that I needed to renew. So I called and it was either the gas or electric that was due then, and the other one wasn't due for a couple of months, but that I was to that I might as well just renew them both so then there won't be a lapse. That's what I did. It was in March that I renewed them. I have a bunch of papers with dates on them. But several weeks ago, I got another letter saying that it was time for me to renew one of them and I had to do that over again. It got a little confusing there. I even got letters stating that I have renewed both of them. When I called about it though, the rep was very helpful and polite.

    When I called the number that was on the papers I got, their representatives were very helpful and understanding. They apologized and assured me it would get straightened out. It's just that it takes time. Both of the new rates have been delayed by a couple of months. Hopefully, it will be all straightened out by the next billing ‘cause the next is an actual reading, this last month was an estimated one. I'm waiting for the next bill and it should have the proper electric rate.

    Between the couple of months that it took them to change, my electric rate has doubled though. I just got a utility bill the other day and it was up to $0.10 on the electric. Previously, it was $0.5 but it was supposed to go to $0.49. A couple of months ago, the same thing happened with the gas. While I was waiting for the two months for it to go into effect, the gas rate jumped up a lot, but it's finally down to where it should be. But other than those, I would recommend Direct Energy. I've asked people what their gas and electric rates are and I've told them that I use Direct Energy and it's a lot cheaper than what some other people are paying.

    I had TXU and my electricity was going up. My friend recommended Direct Energy and he said his billing has been real steady and they have good plans. Also, they’re cheaper and they offered this two-year contract and budget billing where they average it out. That really works good because in my peak months like in the summer, I get less of the bill. I pick up a little heavier in the winter but it all averages out in the end. Then, I bought the next place to me so I have two residences and Direct Energy worked with me to hook my other place up with no problems.

    The deal is, my one place was at 100 to 200 even in the peak days and now that I have two places going, I expect somewhere in the 300 range. But there was a little confusion there between getting the place settled and trying to get stuff over there and I got the $400 bill twice in a row. Also, the original one expired and they sent me a message. But I work for Texas Instruments, I get about a thousand messages a day and I didn’t catch it. It fell off the grid. They may also have sent something in my mail but I missed that e-mail. But everything should be on board now with both places. The other place is a trailer and that's gonna be going away at the end of the year but I will still keep the electricity there. It’s going to the ground and it will cut out here.

    Direct Energy is very efficient when we have outages. I give them a call and they get right on it. Also, the guy keeps me informed of what they're looking at hour-wise. When I was on TXU, it would go down and I wouldn’t hear anything. I couldn’t talk to anybody but Direct Energy has been good all the way around. Also, their team is really knowledgeable, clear, down-to-earth type, direct and to the point. I like it that they give me the gist of it and they've solved any problems I've had fairly quickly. I've told my friends what I have and I said they’ve been good to me. It's been fantastic.

    I've been with Direct Energy for a long time. One year, I got sick and I was making sure I get my bills lined but I wasn't deducted anything. When I got to feeling better, I went to deduct and I knew the only one I hadn't written there was electric. So, I called Direct Energy and they told me I sent them $1,000. I asked them to put it on my account and that's what they did. All these months, I've never had to pay a bill. They tell me how much I got left over so I'm good for three more months.

    I'm on a fixed contract and if I renew, they tell me how much it's going to cost the next two years. And this last time, the contract they gave me was a good one and I asked if I could get it for two years but they said no. So I got it for one year. I'll renew it again when it comes time to renew. We help each other and she reminds me when it's about time that we're going to call them again. She's had no complaints either and we never found anything better. I hang on to this electric company and I'm very happy with it. I tell people I'm not going to change unless Direct Energy changes a big deal.

    I have had TXU in Midland, Texas for a long time and Direct Energy is cheap compared to them. At the place where I have Direct Energy, I'm there every other weekend, depending on how long I stay. We have two different places down at Robert Lee and two accounts with Direct Energy. One is in my husband’s name, and the other one is in mine. I looked them up from my other previous bills, called them and they were nice. They're a good electric company. My husband thanks them a lot 'cause when he sees some of our bills, he'd ask me if that's all it was and I'd say yes. I’d recommend them to somebody.

    I decided to use Direct Energy because of the rates and the promotional deal. I switched to a two-year plan that I was walked into. About six month ago, I received a letter saying that my bill could potentially go up so I entered another two-year agreement. The plan I'm on has something to do with the Nest. They sent me a thermostat so I can check it from my phone and control things. It's an advantage. I also get updates from emails. The customer service is great anytime call.     I’ve been with Direct Energy for three years now and the bill seems to be less than what it was before. But I have a complaint with the billing. I can call in and make my payment, which is great. But I have two accounts and both accounts had the same address. I have three acres here and two acres are on Direct Energy. So they have to put on separate bills. As a result, when I call, it takes one payment. But then I got to get a hold of the representative to make the second payment. They won’t let me go back and pay the other bill. I asked if they can just combine them just to make it easier. They said no because they have different boxes on it.

    I have been on a plan for 2 years and then I received a call from customer service stating my plan was no longer in place. They told me I had to select another one and it would be in effect immediately but never received a copy of my new plan. A month later I received a bill that is double.     I was not satisfied with Reliant at that time and online service work isn’t that great with them. Direct Energy is much better. I've had them for eight years and I’ve had lower bills with them. Also, the technology’s changed, so it’s much more convenient online. It’s been really good with Direct Energy and I like the fixed rate because I know the limits of what I’m going to pay each month. When I told him mine is currently at .04 cents and I was not interested, he asked to see my bill. I said I was not comfortable with that and he stated he had to see my bill to confirm.     Direct Energy is giving me peace of mind. I'm a disabled veteran, and it's hard for me to pay bills. The company I was using back then was charging me 10.5 kilowatts and Direct Energy told me that they would only charge me 8.5 kilowatts. It has helped me hold up. However, when I tried to call them once because I had a question, I kept getting their automated machine. I would love to have Direct Energy's phone number in case I do have a problem, because I don't like talking to the automated machine because it doesn't care how upset it's making you. It will just say the same things over and over.     Direct Energy was one of the electrical companies that the people use around the apartment area I was renting with. When I first called, I had some trouble getting questions answered only because the people that were on the line didn't really speak English too well. It was hard for us to understand each other and it made it a little hectic to try to get service in the beginning. But once I got it, they were okay. But then they're very persistent in everything. They kept calling me after I closed the account. It's a number that I talked to customer service about and they don't even have that number, but they're still claiming that they're Direct Energy.     We live in South Texas and I was used to getting TXU, but where we lived at the time, there was no TXU and Direct Energy was pretty close to what we used to use with TXU. In comparison, TXU was a little more flexible in my billing that I can call them and tell them that I was going pay my bill a day late without any late fees. I'm on a fixed income and my check only comes at a certain time. I had a longer time to pay than I do now with Direct Energy. So, with Direct Energy, I wind up paying 5% because I’m late with my payment. One time, when I didn’t get to pay my bill, I woke up the next day with no electricity. On the other hand, Direct Energy seems to be a little bit cheaper.

    I had a pretty rough start with the team at Direct Energy. I called to have my services moved from one apartment to another. Because of miscommunication and computer errors, it took them a whole week before I really got any energy. It was very frustrating. The people I spoke to were courteous. But they kept giving me the same excuse all the time. It didn't matter who I talked to. Whenever I see something good, then something bad hits it.

    I’ve been with Direct Energy for four years now. I’m on a fixed rate and sometimes it’s okay. When I first got on there I said I'll do the two-year one for four and a half cents not knowing they were going to throw a charge in there from Oncor that would keep going up no matter what. That was weird and I didn’t have that before. Now, it seems to be stuck on my bill and the rate climbs all the time. I’m on a fixed income, so sticking that on there wasn’t really cool. They said everybody’s got it. But a friend of mine doesn’t have that Oncor delivery charge that goes up every month. I only use $50 worth of electricity a month. It goes up by $20 a month in the summer and goes back down in the winter because I don’t turn the lights on. But I decided to stay with them anyway. I wouldn't tell anybody to switch to them, but I'm not mad at them, either.

    TXU was the most expensive provider on the planet at the time that I had them, and they were trying to hide a bunch of stuff from our bill which added up to $50 more a month. When a spokesperson from Direct Energy came up to my door and showed me everything that was on the bill and how it all added up, I went with them. They were very honest and they are always there on the few times that I needed to talk to customer service. Also, they've made it easy for me to pay my bill so my bill is never late. The bill is easy to read and it has the pay-by-phone system which actually works.     I was unhappy with the provider I had, so I looked Direct Energy up on the internet and compared prices. Their service is much better and the rates have been a little lower. Working with them made my life easier. Once a year, it comes back up as far as what kind of rate they're going to give me and it's been very easy to go get to that. However, I was having trouble with them because they were always saying that I didn't get my payment on time. They were threatening to turn my electricity off and they had already gotten the payment two weeks before. One time, we even had a three-way conversation with the bank because I had online banking and they told the company that I was with, that the company had already received the check and had already come back to the bank saying it was paid two weeks prior. Then they were trying to tell me that it takes so many days for this to go through.

    I've been using Direct Energy for about six years now. I had another provider before but their pricing has been the fairest of all of them in the long term. Everything is pretty seamless. They send me a bill and I pay it. I'm not a needy customer and we haven't had any issues where I've had to call customer service to resolve anything. For the most part I handle payments or requests online. Requesting to transfer a service was easy and seamless. The last time I did it, I needed to retain power at my old location and have power at my new location for a two week depth. I got nervous that that was going to fall apart but it worked perfectly. My bill increased temporarily but one of the places was unoccupied so it wasn't that much. Everything has been efficient and they make it easy to do business with them. I recommend them all the time.

    I heard about Direct Energy because one of their executives is a friend of mine. We sat on a Board of Directors together and she talked about the company so I decided to go with them. I lived in Corpus Christi in 2009 for a year and a half, and when I moved to Houston, I used another energy company with some discount sounding name. When my contract was off, I immediately changed and I’ve had Direct Energy for a while now. I got a better rate because I always sign 13-month contracts and I was able to get the Nest thermostat which I’ve put to good use. I’m very impressed with that equipment. Moreover, their billing process was clearer and simpler to use than the other energy company.

    Everything’s been working fine. I haven’t had an issue and it's been positive. Unfortunately, I am moving to Florida at the end of September. Florida is not an unregulated state so I will be a Florida Power and Light customer. I won’t be able to use them but if I ever go back into a direct energy market, I will certainly consider that.

    I've been with Direct Energy for over 10 years. Back then, we had only TXU and I can only compare to TXU because there's no competition with the way they do the business so whatever the price they want, we have to accept it. But with Direct Energy, I have a second choice so I stayed with them. Even though we have more other providers, I choose to stay with them. We're very pleased with their service and they're very transparent with their service and billing. Their prices are reasonable and credible. Their website is very user friendly. I can set up autopay, view online and has a friendly reminder and these are what I was expecting.

    The only issue I have is about the rebate. When I signed up for the program before my current contract, they promised if I pay the bill for three months without any delay, we'll get the $400 cash back but I never get it and that problem was never solved. For me, Direct Energy still owe me $400 for the promise. But I kept them and called in to sign a new contract. They made my life easier with the convenience that I have with them and that keeps me from looking for another provider. They've been good to me.

    Direct Energy seemed like they had better offerings that fit my pay rate from what I get paid for work. This helps me out a lot with the bill which hasn't been too high. I called them to set up my electric and the first lady that I spoke to spelled my name wrong so I had to wait. I also had to keep paying on a prepaid electric to keep my electricity on until they got my regular electricity set up. But their service is good and so far I like it.     Everything’s been great with Direct Energy. I’ve been with them for five years now and never had an issue with them. I initially went with them because they didn’t require a deposit for my apartment to get the electricity turned on, which was better for me because I was coming out of a sticky situation. They’re one of the lowest electric companies that I’ve ever used. But if you’re not on a plan with them, their prices are outrageous. In fact, last year I couldn’t figure out why my electric bills were so high and I apparently didn’t renew my rate plan with them. So they were able to help me out with that and get me on a better rate plan. They’ve always been really helpful with anything that I’ve needed to do. We were once in a terrible apartment and there was one summer that our bill was outrageous at $400, but Direct Energy let me split it into a couple of payments to make that easier.     I had Reliance and they were charging me an arm and a leg and I was spending $250 to $260 a month. With Direct Energy, they got better rates than anybody else so I went with them. Now, the bill was $92 for the first month and the next month was $60. I am really happy with Direct Energy. It helped me pay more bills than what I've been paying because I've got a little money left over. Today, I went to the doctor and had a $30 copay. I also went to the pharmacy, I had a $47 copay for some medicine. It gives me more flexibility to get my pharmaceuticals that I need to keep kicking and living a little bit and it has really helped me considerably.

    However, when my neighbor signed me up, she had to go online and told her what I needed to change with my authority. We gave their staff the address, but we didn't tell them to send me a bill. I called them and used my credit card both months to pay the bill but the next one, they guaranteed me that I'll get a bill.     When I moved to Burleson, Texas, I went on the internet and I compared rates for everything: water, gas, sewer, trash pickup, electricity. I found that Direct Energy had a really good rate going on, so I thought "Okay," and then I ordered all of my utilities from them through the computer. And when I got down here, everything was already up and running. I walked into my new house and I had everything. I thought it was so cool because I moved 350 miles and everything was boom! Direct Energy was really easy to work with. Since I got down here, I called them, verified my new address and phone number and I have stayed with them.

    I’ve been using them as my service provider for nine years now and I love them. They have a variable rate plan that goes month-to-month. But if you want to lock in your rates for the term of your contract, they have one-year and two-year contracts and you have to go with whatever is going on at that time. I always get a fixed rate and I tell them what I have had, what I’ve gotten now, and that I would like for them to at least match it or do a little better. They’ve always at least matched my rate and then they’ll lock it in for a two-year or a one-year contract.

    But every time I call them, I can’t get a hold of them. It’s really difficult to get a live person on the phone. Normally, it’s just a pre-recorded message and you can’t get anywhere. Then, they put you on hold for two hours and all of a sudden, the phone just goes dead. I want to get my contract renewed before it expires so every year in January or February, whenever my contract expires, I have to keep calling. I start early because it might take me about two weeks to get a hold of somebody. But eventually, a live person will answer the phone and they're really helpful. Although if they were easier to get a hold of and you could call them up if you had a question or a complaint, that would be nice.

    Also, every year when my contract renews, they give me a really great rate. They renew it for me and it’s good to go. I keep having these other people come by all the time trying to get me to switch but I tell them that I have never found one company ever that has a better rate than Direct Energy. They say they can get me down to nine cents per kilowatt-hour but I tell them that I’m at four cents. Also, my motto is that if I find something that works, why change it? If they get really high and they don’t work with me, that’s when I will switch to another company. There’s an early cancellation fee, but I’ve never had a cause to cancel. My fixed rate is fixed and I don’t have to worry about it going up and down. So far, they have been very reasonable and I’m extremely happy using Direct Energy. I’ve recommended them to several of my neighbors and friends.

    Direct Energy's team came when I had the house under my mother-in-law’s name. When me and my wife split up, they had it under her name and I was still paying anything up. They got it turned off, and had to put it in the apartment where they’re staying at. I ended up turning around and tell them what have happened. They asked me if I wanted to apply a credit, and I said, “Go ahead.” Then they told me that I have good credit.

    We had two different kinds of electricity companies before. With Direct Energy the highest my bill got through the summer was about $160-$380. But with the other company, they would be $400-500 and I couldn’t do that. I’ve also got a gas, and it has been only $20 a month but we don’t use gas. When I'm at my wife's place, the neighborhood where I lived at refused to take a risk. So, the gas bill and the water bill was low, not high like everywhere else. When we signed up with Direct Energy, my wife put my mother on the same with contract and ever since then it’s been about $180. That was the highest we got but it was still lower than my regular bill. After summer towards winter my bills will be about 80 bucks. Also, I get free weekends so I’m happy about that. They gave me time to do all my washing and that helped me out through the weekend.

    With Direct Energy, I saved more money in my pocket. Also, everyone I know and everyone I talked to has been polite. It has been a good service and I like the team that they got. They speak the truth and they don’t hide corners about a thing. Everything has always been good every time I talk to someone.

    I have Direct Energy for a while now and I never had a problem with them. But, ever since I moved and had it reconnected at my new house, it has been awful. My electricity is so much higher and I am using more when we’re not even home during the week. My husband is at home but for three days a week, he normally sleeps all day when he gets home from dialysis.

    Also, I’m supposed to have free weekends, which is nothing but a lie. I pay $45 on Friday then if I don’t pay by so much days, my electricity is going to be off tomorrow. It does not make sense. Every week I have to pay almost $80 just to keep my electricity on. That’s almost $400 a month. That’s ridiculous. Also, the messages are always wrong. I got a text message this morning saying that if I don’t pay by tomorrow, my electricity is going to be interrupted. That’s why I’m switching and I'm going with the energy provider that I use for my company. We’ve only been open with that provider since January and the rates were awesome. I’m there more at my company than I am at my own house but I pay less there than here for my house. And what I pay a month for electricity at my house is ridiculous because it’s a smaller house.

    I also had the worst experience with their team. I have called in at least four times within the past week and every call has been dropped. Either they’re hanging up on me or I have a hard time understanding some of the customer service. I never get my concerns solved so I’m not even calling anymore. A couple of them are trying to explain it to me. I even tried to get a different kind of plan to make it cheaper. But I get nowhere with them. So I would not recommend Direct Energy for anybody to go to.

    Direct Energy’s pricing and the perks of giving us a heads-up on extra usage in certain areas of the house and with appliances were the factors that got us to decide to go with them. Compared to our past provider, from the customer service to the bill looks nicer with Direct Energy. In the past, our light will get cut off by accident because our payments were applied to somebody else's bill, and then they would have to fix it. The little Nest thermostat for customers works splendid, it’s perfect and we love it. Also, during phone calls, they're always friendly at Direct Energy. The customer service through emails is great as well. Just keeping up with the customers, always being in touch is always a plus.

    Having Direct Energy has put some money back in my pocket. It definitely has helped out. The house where we signed up with Direct Energy was a one-story, now we had a two-story. Our neighbors have two-story houses as well and they're skeptical about changing because they've been with their providers for so long. But I told them it's worth the shot. Just with the Superflex Energy, the price has a really big difference, hundreds of dollars, not just a few bucks. So, I try to keep influencing family, friends.

    I received a bill from Direct Energy, I was surprised to see a bill for over 1400 dollars! I called to ask what had happen (thinking it was a mistake)! But the rep, turned out to be very rude explaining to me that we or someone in the household had broken or disconnected the meter! I said "Mrs., first of all I work from 3 am to 7 pm daily except for Sundays." She told me I would have to still pay for the damage of lock. I explained how would a average man who works for a living be doing messing with a meter? How can someone even think about tearing a meter after never having a problem after I switched to them (2 years).

    She said I could switch once I paid the bill! I continued to explain it wasn't anyone at my home, but it went in one ear and out the other! I have called Stream Energy and even getting a lower rate! By the way no phone call yet from Direct Energy about how the investigation is going! Rude people seem to be everywhere, but most of all I will never do anything again with this company! I warn people. Do not do business with Direct Energy! I cannot stop thinking about how someone even would imagine to do something this stupid! SO UPSET!

    Updated on 05/31/2017: 1 problem behind the other! I received a bill telling me they are about to disconnect my electric! I told them my mother pays the bill at the store! I have all the receipts and I would be more than happy to email or text a picture of all the money orders my mother sends! They would not even budge! So I ask the lady to let me talk to someone other than her because I didn't like her tone! I was switch to someone else 10 minutes later! Now I do have to give the guy credit! He was great on the phone! 180 degrees from the first lady!

    He was able to help me and figured everything out! I told him what store and the money order's numbers! He told me someone would be contacting my mother! Few days later the lady calls again! (Here we go again)! DING DING 12 round 3 minutes to go! After everything was said and done she hung up! I said that was enough! Not one problem in 2 years and boom!!! I would like to post all these credits after they sent me the bill with a bill attached to it for a meter!

    I've been with Direct Energy for about 10 years. I'm disabled so they were willing to work with me, help me and get me any discounts I could be eligible for. They told me about that Light Up Texas Program but they've stopped it now. It was free Saturdays if you qualify and you were disabled. That really helped me because my house was all electric. I was researching another company after they stopped the Light Up Texas Program because I knew I couldn't afford electricity. I've already made the deal with the other company and I called Direct Energy to tell them I was switching and they said, "No, no, we can help you better than that." They helped me get my rate down as low as it could be with the discounted rate for disabled people so I stayed with them.     My experience with Direct Energy has been good and I've been with them for years now. So far, their price and service are fair. I got gas for the heating system. It's cheaper than my previous provider and I'm contented with Direct Energy. Everything is more safe with gas. Direct Energy has good programs however last time, their customer service helped me change to a different plan. I noticed in my bill that we're paying Suncor and we're paying Direct Energy too whereas it was just one payment before. Therefore, I'm watching it now because Suncor gets a dollar or two more than what Direct Energy gets to the bill which I don't like.

    My spouse is ESL and has a difficult time understanding new people. This particular instance two salesman came to our door, I was at work and my wife answered. She initially said "no" to their offer, but they insisted that they come in. She was a little frightened because she said no, but they still came in to the home. She did not understand what they wanted or what they were selling. They coaxed her into calling a number, put her on speaker phone so they could listen in. They wrote the words Yes and No on the top of the contract, and the person on the phone would ask a question, and the salesmen would point to one of the answers for her to say. She had no idea what she was agreeing to and just wanted them to leave.

    Now she's nervous about staying in her own home alone because she doesn't want to get bullied into another contract.     Direct Energy has good pricing, not always the absolute lowest, but it's competitive. What I liked was that when my discount rates were going to expire, they phoned to remind me of this, so I could make needed adjustments. They also switched between variable and fixed rates based on market predictions. Overall, Direct Energy wants customers to feel that the pricing they get is a good deal. I've had a few other providers over time... And no other company contacted me to tell me the rates would expire. This year, my Direct Energy rep DID contact me, but Did NOT return my calls. I called their customer service and got it handled, at least I got a message warning me about the expire.

    I've been with Direct Energy for years. I moved recently and they're fine that's why I stayed with them even when I moved. I went with the company because of the combination of the rates at the time and also because some of the companies did automatic debit every month but I wasn't ready to do that then. I switched to Direct when they first did all the electricity changeover and I never had any issues and have always ended up getting comparable rates. I think I’ve gotten one, maybe two bills so far, and they’ve been fine but I also know it has to do with what I live in, too, and how it’s insulated and this home is well-insulated. At the other house, which is a little bit bigger, I never got up to 300 but had plenty of friends going way over that. If my bill stays down then I have a few more dollars to spend on something else. When people are shopping around, I tell them I'm with Direct Energy.

    When I signed for this house in January of ’15, about two and a half years ago, Direct Energy was the service that came with it. I’ve moved to just outside of Denver from Colorado and we had one electrical thing that we didn’t have any choice in. You either took theirs or you didn’t get any. I didn’t know any difference until hearing about, “Well, you can select different energy.” Why would you want to select somebody if you’re happy? One thing I never understood is that they wanted to know if I wanted to continue, and I said, “Sure. I’m happy.”

    The bill is a lot better. We used to pay close to $100. Our house wasn’t much bigger than this though. In the winter time, you need more heat out there. In the summer time, you need a little bit more air conditioning, but we usually shut it off at night and open the windows, which was nice, for fresh air. Here, I hardly ever turn the air conditioner on. The furnace doesn’t seem to run too, ‘cause this house is pretty well insulated. I had a couple of outages the last few days. It went off and about 30 minutes later it came back on. I got the clocks reset and turned around and it went back off again. It’s something to do with the construction going on fairly close to this house. Other than that, it’s always been fine.

    Direct Energy was great and I would recommend it to a friend. Most of the people around this area are all Direct Energy. My son lives seven miles away from me and he’s got some other company and I thought it was TXU. He never talks too much about all that, but he’s got a bigger house, three little girls and that’ll drive your electricity out of sight too. You get kids, leave everything on, they don’t turn nothing off. I live here by myself. I can’t complain about anything.

    I have never experienced such a mess getting my service completed. I'm disabled and my husband has 2 different types of cancer, and was told my service would be complete by mid May!!!     I’ve been with Direct Energy for a long time and I’ve gotten a good rate with them. But I didn’t like the way the storage protection department conducted their business. The rep told me I was paying $3.99 and it wasn't $4.99 a month for storage protection. And then I had a storage that knocked out a television and a monitor from my home. The clown that handed it to me was going to recommend no payment because I didn't send in the proper receipt. I called it in and they instructed me to send the form. I did everything they told me but it wasn't until his satisfaction and a so-called lady that says she was supervisor got involved. She told me what to send back and I told her the man has gone to Louisiana. But I got his wife to send it to him and he sent me back a receipt. I sent it to them and nothing ever happened from that but they had the nerve to contact me back to keep on paying for the storage protection.

    I try to keep up with them when I can about the monthly bills. I am on a very fixed income because of sickness and I had Dallas county who helps me out from time to time with my electricity. I called the reps to see if there's a pledge put in my account or not so I can call the people and tell them they hadn't sent the pledge in yet and it's due. That's all I need but they don't hear me. I ask one simple question and they ask for 35 minutes and have a new man answer it. That's what happens every now and then when I call but overall, I'm satisfied with Direct Energy. Since I’ve bought the home, I’ve had them and I’ve kept it.

    Direct Energy told me I’d get a better rate but my rate with them isn't the best I had. I am not happy with their service. They get too excited when their bill is due. They act like if it’s 10:30 in the morning when they would like for you to pay your bill, then you better be there at 10:29. Adding power companies in order to give the public a better competitive rate for electricity is a joke. Everybody in the world wants to sell electricity access to the same power that we always had already. Everybody’s gonna buy it from the same person at the same price. That’s not giving anybody any incentive to do a better job or do it cheaper than anybody else. It’s just a story. They make up a better story than they do about how they get their power to my house. But the fact is, just like it did 100 years ago, not an ounce of that’s changed. There’s no competition. There are no new companies. There are just new billing offices. It’s all we got.

    I once received a letter sent out by the city and learned about Direct Energy through it. I then decided to use them since they were what the city offered at the time. I tried another provider but I only had it for a couple of days. When I asked them who they were, they said they were the people that I already had.     I had a friend that had Direct Energy. My electricity bill was really high before with another company, and I switched over to Direct Energy because their rates were so much better. That was in 2009 and I've been with them since. The rates stayed low and really good. In fact, one time I was having a really extremely high electric bill and I thought there was something wrong with my meter. But I talked to somebody and they went through it with me and it was just because I lived on the second floor and I got the hot sunshine all day long. So that's the reason. But I've never had a bad issue with Direct Energy.

    We redid our contract this year and I got this little solar light in the mail. I don't know what it was but it was from Direct Energy. I don't know if it was a gift or what but I got it and I don't know what to do with it. It had instructions on how to use it. It was kind of a cool thing but I'll probably give it to my son. He likes it hands down and I don't know how to fool with it. One thing these guys don't do is send you any spam or marketing emails and I like that, too. I also pay right out of my checking account and I've never had an issue with that either. Except for one time, they forgot to pay. I think the system was down and I got a second notice that it hadn't been paid. But it got taken care of right away.

I signed a contract for 12 to 24 months with a decent pricing. Their service is fine but the only issue I had was when my contract expired, I did not know about it which kind of startled me for a few months. And so my rate just went through the roof. There was a time where we had a power outage and I just gave them a call and they were already on it by the time I called them, which was fantastic for me. Direct Energy is pretty damn good. They were very kind and really helpful. I will recommend them to my family and friends.

    Direct Energy called today and told a member of our family that we had requested their service to provide energy generation and transmission. The family member thought this was a valid call and was confirming information they had. I overheard the call and broke in and hopefully stopped this transaction. We DID NOT and WILL NOT USE Direct Energy. Once before they had switched our supplier to their service without our permission. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE. We use Talen Energy for best price and service.
