    Direct Energy is a big and good company that has an excellent customer service. Since using Direct Energy, I’ve noticed a lower electric bill, with $20 to $30 little difference to what I had before. I'm very happy with the company and I wouldn’t switch to a different one. I have a cousin who's moving right now and I just told him about Direct Energy and that he should get that company as well.

    When I first signed up with Direct over 15 years ago, they were one of the companies that were really a lot cheaper than the main provider. Direct's price was good so I went with them at the time. I changed the plan recently and they started all over on the account. I am locked in for a year. My monthly bill has been lower since I switched the plan. But I can’t compare it to any other provider and nowadays, companies are all competitive. Nevertheless, I’m saving money with Direct and their overall cost per kilowatt is cheaper than other providers. Their representatives are good and I had no problem with them. My only issue is that they never contacted me in all those 15 years to say that during this time they’ve come up with cheaper plans and ask if I would like to switch. I basically found out on my own.

    I liked Direct Energy's price at the time I signed up. I'm happy with what I've got and everything has worked pretty smooth for me. They also give me an opportunity to change every year. They always have different programs which they offer to me and it's my choice to take the one that I want. They help me however they can and I know that I've saved money by going with Direct Energy. In fact, I haven't even thought about going to anybody else. I've been with them about 12 or 15 years now and I'll recommend them to anybody.

    I chose Direct Energy for their price, but I'm concerned about my oxygen concentrator. My bills were never high until I got it in here. They don’t have a senior citizen’s discount because this machine runs 24/7. I called my PP&L the other day and the only thing they have is if I'm behind on my bill, which I'm not, they will take a letter from my doctor saying that it's a medical emergency. They can't turn the electric off if I'm behind. All in all, I’ve been with them for about 4 years and I've been fine with them. If friends ask, I’d tell them to sign up with Direct Energy.

    I did a little research, and Direct Energy had the best rates I found. I talked to the people in the neighborhood and they sold me on the rates. And then when my rates went up, I called Direct Energy to get them back down. Having Direct Energy saved me a little money on the bills but not really too much in any other way.     Direct Energy was the only electricity and natural gas provider that was local when I started with them in 2005. They had different plans and working with them has been pretty okay. However, they could be a little bit more aggressive on promotional packages with their services. I noticed a lot of other providers have more aggressive sign-in features. Other than that, I only had two hiccups before and Direct Energy was able to remedy them.

    My husband started the service with Direct Energy three years ago. He also signed up for Lite Up Texas which was for people with lower income. The bills were lower but they’ve taken that off because a couple of months ago my electric bill was $340. I called and talked with someone at Direct Energy because I live by myself and my bills had been low. I don’t really use a lot of electricity. They sent someone out to check the meter and they said it was okay. They also said that they were going to try and see if they can find something with Direct Energy that can lower my bills. Last month, the bill was good though. It was about $60 because I didn’t use my AC or heater or anything at that time. I still haven’t used my AC but that’s the only thing that would increase my electric bill. Nevertheless, I'd recommend Direct Energy.

    I've been using Direct Energy for a long time and they've always helped me out in trying to find some ways to keep my bill from going so high. They turned me on to some programs that I could get into that would help keep my bill at a minimum so I can afford it. Before, my bill had gone up to $100, $200 and $300. Now it stays between $80 and $90. Sometimes it might make it to a $100 but I can deal with that. However, when it's getting up to $200 or $300, that's when it's out of my range.

    Even in the summertime when I have to run up the air conditioning, my bill doesn't get sky high to where I can't afford to pay it. And that's what I like about Direct Energy. They put me in a program where I'm going to afford to pay my electric bills during the summer and the winter months. I pay from a base of income because I'm a senior citizen, and the the program that I'm in helps me out a lot. I also like the way they take care of their customers. The reps do a wonderful job so I'm satisfied with them. Also, I will be glad to recommend them to a friend because they're a good company.

    I was with Nice Egg Solutions then they changed to Direct Energy. At the end of the year, they tried to go variable rate, but I didn’t want that. So, I called them and told them I didn’t want a variable rate, and they ranked me up with a fixed rate for 11 months, which made me decide not to switch. I paid directly to Nice Egg, and they gave Direct Energy their share out of that. So, there was no difference from the way it was at all. Overall, I am satisfied with Direct Energy. In fact, my nephew was short on money, so I mentioned Direct Energy to him and he got a good rate.

All the things that they explained that I get with my account including cheaper kilowatt usage was pretty helpful.     When I moved here five years ago, Direct Energy was one of the highly recommended ones to look at from some of the apartment complex so I stuck with it. They're pretty straightforward and consistent with the emails for the bills to follow-up. There were never any lower bills but I don't see the bills getting too out of hand. On the average, I pay $70-$80. Everything's been pretty smooth so far. I've had to call them a few times but everybody has been pretty responsive on getting back in touch with whatever I needed. Going through the recordings can be kind of a headache, but getting a representative is not too bad for the most part.

    Friends told me about Direct Energy and our bill is now lower than it usually was. Once, my bill went outrageously high, like $300. Turns out, it was because I was supposed to renew my contract and they didn't send it out and nobody told me about it. But they took care of it. They split the bill up where I won't have to pay the whole $300-something cause I wasn't aware. Other than that, I haven’t had a problem. I'm probably going to tenure with Direct Energy. I'm happy about what I have.

    It was time to change and try somebody new, and I liked the plan that was offered to me from Direct Energy better than the ones that had been offered from others. Direct Energy offered free weekends. I would still gonna get charged the service fee but they'll stop the surcharges or any charge on the weekends or others on their free time. Their customer service is also polite and I have no complaints. When I did a set-up where I can get online and check everything out, it was a little confusing at first but after they've walked me through, I found out where I was messing up at it. It's easy now. This would be my third month with them and I've got my bill cut in half. I've already recommended them to a friend.

    My parents had Direct Energy when I bought the place and I kept it. I'm satisfied with them and I'd recommend them. However, I don't like the go around once I renewed the contract. When my contract expired the first time they tried to call me and let me know to renew. I was paying a higher premium for a long time but nobody gave me a notification and I didn't like that. People should help customers if they're loyal. If they want to keep customers, they need to call and offer the lowest rates if they're loyal customers that pay on time, instead of having somebody shop around and lose you from the get go.

    I switched from Penelec to Direct Energy because they promised that it would be less expensive than Penelec and it isn't now. I paid two dollars higher for the last two months. Direct Energy isn't horrible but I'm not getting what I've been promised. I can't say that I'm definitely dissatisfied with them but if somebody asks me how I felt about it, I would just tell them that they're probably better off staying with Penelec.

    I used different natural gas provider before, but Direct Energy gave a better price. Plus, I call them when I have a problem and most of the time, they answer my questions. Last time, I called them about my January bill because it was not lowered to the amount it’s supposed to be. They went back, found they hadn't put it on record and said it was their fault. In the end, it worked out all right. I had a little higher gas bill but they gave me a gift certificate to compensate for it. They’ve been really good. I’ve been on a yearly contract with them for about two years. When my contract is about to expire, they send me a notice, but I don’t have to do anything if I want to stay with them. It automatically renews for another year.

    I have Direct Energy as the main supplier of my electric and I’m happy with it. I had NYSEG Solutions and when they changed and were going to be going out, they recommended Direct Energy. I’m on disability and when you only make $1,300 a month on disability, it’s hard to pay the bills. Although I know I'm saving a lot because I get heat with the home energy assistance program which paid $401 this year and since it’s been paid, I now get credit coming back from NYSEG where it was overpaid and this will pay. I’m ahead by $316 and I’ve been paying $50 a shot for the last four months. So to keep ahead, I’m gonna have to quit paying up on it to get it used up because the heat has to go by August or by September. Our electricity goes out here all the time but it comes back on real fast. We have so many trees in the area and the trees are always taking over electric lines. They tend to fall out on everything else. But overall, I'm good with Direct Energy.

    Direct Energy is a no muss, no fuss deliverer of natural gas. We use them and we're completely comfortable with what they do with our natural gas. Our utility company is called Consumers Energy here in Michigan. They bundled the whole deal and we use them until Direct Energy reached out to us. They are the only one in this market that was reaching out for alternate delivery options. Their price was better than Consumers Energy so it was a pretty good choice and a great deal. Consumers Energy still handles everything else and Direct Energy keeps a low profile, which is fine. I don't need to worry about my natural gas deliverer. I'd recommend them.

    I would like to discuss how Direct Energy charged me 448.13$ more than I would normally pay for my gas in a one year period which adds up to about 2000$ for the period I was with the company. Here are the facts: Consumer Energy is gas provider. I received a letter from Direct Energy stating that they can lower my gas prices. I signed up with them as my supplier. I did not notice this offer will expire in Oct. 2013 and I will be charged variable rates. Direct Energy claims that they sent me two letters back in 2013 letting me know I need to renew to get a fixed rate. Unfortunately I did not receive the letters or I did not notice. During all these years there was no attempt by Direct energy to notify me again.

    Recently I noticed a box in my gas bill from Consumer Energy stating that I am paying much more than I should. To be fair, Consumer Energy have been notifying me in every bill but I did not read my bills carefully. I usually looked at my consumption but nothing else. Although I really applaud the company, a separate letter could have grabbed my attention better. The variable rate is outrageous. The variable rate is consistently and significantly higher than what Consumer Energy charges (I extracted data from my bills). I also do not understand the basis of variable rate price and how significantly it is higher than the marketplace prices.

    I believe Direct Energy practice is predatory and unethical. I accept my responsibility that I should have been more careful and read my bills carefully. However, Direct Energy preyed on me and perhaps millions of other customers like myself, who would forget terms and conditions over such a long period of time (in my case almost 4 years). I may or may not get my money back but I would like to bring to your attention this so called choice that in my case led to a significant overpay. I would like you to look into it, inform the public, and perhaps look into legal ways to stop this kind of practice that are nothing more than skillful scams hurting millions of Americans.

    The reps came through the door and asked if I like to sign up for Direct Energy as a gas supplier. And they said, “I’ll beat Peoples Gas prices.” It was good for a little while, but it is really expensive. It’s like I’m paying Direct Energy and Peoples Gas. They usually charge me $22 for a month. Then they like to play a lot of games one season around because when I had some credit of 100 and something dollars, they’ve put the whole amount for just supplying gas. I called to ask and they said they sent me a letter to reapply for the Direct Energy, and I didn’t respond. So they’re gonna put me on a higher plan. I don’t think that was right. We have a plan I was on. If you suggest that I recertify and I did not reply, it does not mean to go up on my rates. That way, just keep me as the same because I didn’t reply. They charged me two months’ worth of gas supply. It was $99. They took all the credit that I have, and I also have to pay. That was not cool.

    So when I called Direct Energy, the man I spoke to changed my plan back to the way it was and the price went back to $22. He was really nice. But it was so amazing that I have that credit up and they just messed it. I really wasn’t even interested in Direct Energy anymore because I don’t have the money to pay Direct Energy and Peoples Gas just to supply gas. If I want to pay $90 or $100 for gas, I might as well stay with Peoples Gas where I could just pay $35 for being a gas supplier. But overall, Direct Energy would have been almost amazing. They’ve got a little more work to do and they’ll be great.

    We’ve been with NYSEG for 40 years and then we got this thing that we were with Direct Energy. We never changed anything so my husband called and was told that we're now with Direct Energy. Then we went back and forth. They gave us six months to change and if we changed at that time, it was gonna cost us $90. My husband didn't want to give them $90 so he said we're gonna sit it out. Then we stayed with Direct Energy because we had a fixed rate and with NYSEG, the rate was variable. We still pay our bill to NYSEG because Direct Energy said they're just gonna supply electricity but we should make the payment to NYSEG. Direct Energy is just doing electricity and NYSEG is responsible for everything else. There’s so many companies involved with this now and it seems the companies are stacking on top of each other and charging their fees. For example, the electric bill is $50, but the time NYSEG puts their price on, it becomes $100 a month.

    The bills haven't been bad, but every year - January, February, March - our bills go up $50 more. I got the bill yesterday and it was $103. And the previous bill from last month which would've been February to March was $153. This has happened all through the years. And every winter, we argued with NYSEG. We haven't changed anything and live the same. We have a three-story house and we have two guest rooms upstairs but we don’t use any electricity up there and we don’t get a lot of company in the winter. We have the same amount of TV and TV doesn’t use electricity in comparison, though we may have been doing a little bit more laundry in the winter because we wear a lot of heavier clothes. We also use a little extra radiator during the night in the bedroom when it gets to be zero degrees. But they can’t rack up the bill because the reason we switched to Direct Energy was they said the bill would be steady all the time. We did put in central air last summer. But I live upstate New York, outside of Binghamton, and it doesn’t really get that hot. It only cost me $10 a month extra on my bill.

    My husband is happy with Direct Energy but he doesn't understand why NYSEG charged so much for the cables if somebody else is supplying the electricity. He was calling up and we would speak to different reps. We got to a point that we stopped arguing. So, I told my husband to give them their money as I have to have electricity.

    My regular supplier is PP&L but they're rates are high. So we had Dominion and they're like a credit card. They gave me an introductory rate and all of a sudden I had them for a year and their rates went higher. And then I got in touch with Direct Energy and their rates were good. Recently they got in touch me and the rep told me the rates have gone up a little bit but they're still good so we decided to stay.     Originally I was with another company called Nice Egg Solutions, then Direct Energy took over what they were doing. The price they gave me weren't the cheapest but they offered a 12 month fixed rate which is what I was looking for and was one of the main reasons I decided to go with them. I like to know what my bills are going to be throughout the whole year. Besides just discussing what plans they had I don't have much interaction with Direct Energy. But when I talk with them, it's pleasant and I got no complaints about it. Working with them made my lifestyle simpler. I don't have to worry about what's happening with it. There's one drawback to it but that only applies to your first year with them. If you cancel your services with them before the first year is up, you get charged a $99 fee. But once you get past that first year, they waive the $99 fee. Overall, Direct Energy is simple and provides a lot of options.

    I’m getting a cheaper rate with Direct Energy so there is definitely going to be savings there and I'm just waiting for my next bill to come in. I got a lot of friends who have them too, and I’ve talked to other people who have the other providers but they went back to Direct Energy. I’ve been with Direct for over 20 years now and they've had different name changes. But I’m happy and I really enjoyed them in the past. They really did good by me.     I had Direct Energy for a long time and did recommend them to my daughter who is living in Coplay, Pennsylvania. I had no trouble with Direct Energy or PPL but I'm always looking for lower rates. And almost every month or two, I'm getting somebody asking me for lower rates. I've switched over now to a lower rate. This new rate is for 24 months without a change. There's no variable in it. That's a good deal because the best I could ever do is a year. They guaranteed for two years at $6.69. I'm willing to try any company as long as it isn't a variable rate. And a couple of years ago, I got burned on a variable rate as everybody did. They switched the rate real high without telling us. And I had some terrible bills for that winter. So, I'm keeping an eye on something like that. I do not want a variable rate anywhere, anytime.

    I've used other energy providers in the past, and they're calling all the time. Compared to them, the service of Direct Energy is probably pretty good. However, I haven't seen too much of lowering my energy bills since I used Direct Energy. If they lower my bill, I would think they're a great energy company. Usually, my Direct Energy bill comes to my electric bill. My electric bill was lowered because I was paying over $100, then I tried to call Direct Energy and my electric bill went down to $80. Last month, I got angry when I saw my bill. I called Direct Energy today about my bill and they said there's no reason that bill was so high because they got my payment after they sent the bill out.

    I've had Direct Energy for so long, but I called to cancel it several months ago because the bills went up so much. Their rep said, “Well, we sent you a notice after two years and you didn’t respond.” But, I never got any notice whatsoever. She argued with me on the phone about it but I said there's no need to argue because I know I got nothing in the mail. I'm not deranged or I don't have any kind of dementia. I'm fine and I know I never got any notice but she was real rude about it. Then, I called back and a different rep told me they had a fixed rate, that they would lower it and keep it at that. She was so kind and very clear about everything so I said “I’m gonna do some research and I’ll call you back.” And she said fine. I found out the rate was the same with some other companies and lower than others.

    So after I did the research, I called back and the woman I talked to said "There’s no such rate that she told you. No one told you that." She was rude, too, so I asked their fixed rate. She told me something that was a little bit higher but I agreed to stay with them because I'm tired. These are things that you just don’t want to have to keep dealing with on a daily basis. I’ve got enough other stuff going on. I used to recommend Direct Energy to everybody, until that happened. So now, I really wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

    I've been with Direct Energy for seven years, and the people have been friendly and knowledgeable. They started out very cheap and I benefited from it. But now, my bill is high and I'm not getting the benefits that I was getting before. So, like anything else, they bait people in and mostly get them believing that they're helping them and then, in the end, they won't be doing that. So now, I got to bite the bullet until the contract is up. Since the bill is going up, I've been thinking about trying to go solo because it isn't helping me now. I have to check and see the difference in the rates and how high it can affect or help me. For one, there's one thing that they do that I dislike totally. My bill goes sky-rocketing and I don't know what they're doing. Also, at the end of the contract, they should notify me that I'm coming up to the end of my contract. However, they don't do it.

    I never had a problem with Direct Energy but recently I got an increase that was about $64 a month more than my normal budget. I got behind $417 but I had no knowledge of it. I noticed last year that my bill was cheaper than normal and I kept checking what I used, what I had to pay, etc., but I didn't realize it wasn't affecting the Direct Energy. My electric bill just shows Jersey Central part and when they showed me my balance due, I thought that included Direct Energy, too. I was paying about $90, then it went to $99, and now, it's $164. Part of that is the arrears but I am not sure if that will go down after the arrears is covered. If they would have notified me sooner, I would have made other arrangements to pay it. So, I was upset about that. I know things go up and down, but I was shocked because that's the highest that I've had since I've lived in the house.

    I asked them if I could have a statement sent to show how I accumulated that over a period of time, and if they could notify me sooner next time. I wanna know how that happened so we can avoid it next time. The gentleman I spoke to the other day said they sent the billing transactions out about two weeks ago but I haven't received it yet. So, I don't know if it's taking a long time or I just never got it. And the wait time on the phone is very long. When I did get them, the guy didn't know too much about anything. He couldn't even find my account though he could just be having a bad day.

    The first contract that people will get from Direct Energy is gonna be good. And then after that, they might as well look around again because they're not gonna stay at the same rate. Direct Energy offered a better rate than what I was getting with the utility. Unfortunately, I'm paying more to Direct Energy now. The initial rate for the light that was guaranteed for 15 months was $0.10 but as soon as they came back with the second contract, it was $0.12 or $0.13. I was within a couple of months with them, and I called them so they took half a cent of which made it $0.12. Right now, Public Services' rate is less than $0.12. It's not a significant difference but I'm sure as hell not getting any break through Direct Energy with my second contract.

    Direct Energy is in the middle of electricity and they got nothing. They're a big bunch of resellers and they're making a little bit of money. If they're gonna try and keep me for a third contract they're gonna have to match Public Service at the lowest rate. Otherwise, see you later, alligator. Why should I keep it? Electricity's one of these things people would try to switch and that's it.

    Somebody from Direct Energy came to my house and told me that they could save us all kinds of money and that we would get a check back each year for the difference. But that happened for one year only and for 64 cents, but it's never happened again and I never had an explanation of why I don't get money back. Also, if you call in every year, they will reduce your rate. I get a letter every year which comes way before the time that I have to cancel it. They raised my rate quite a bit and they told me they could lower it, but I'd have to call every single year to do it. They did reduce my rate but I don't even know if that's a good or bad rate because I don't know what Consumer's would charged me. So I'm thinking of going back to our other energy company next year. I was going to drop Direct this year and let it go past the time because I don't like their different ways of doing things and they're not sympathetic.

    I signed up for Direct Energy service after two fairly pushy salesmen came to my house. I wasn't totally sure what was happening so I signed up, mostly to get them out of my house. They assured me I could cancel my service within 10 days with no penalty. After talking it over with my wife I called a day or two later to cancel the service.     Direct Energy had the cheapest rates before and I’ve been using them since 2012. But my bill now is so high. The gas went up to 20 cents a kilowatt and the electric increased to 4 cents. So I left them and switched to a cheaper company. Direct Energy is the only one that has a $99 termination fee and they're still calling everyday trying to tell me that I got to pay that fee. I told Direct to call my current provider because they said, "If Direct tries to take it to collections or something, then we'll pay it. Otherwise, don't worry about it."

    I have called on numerous occasions concerning the $100 gift card "incentive" as part of this program. I have been provided different and contradictory information during each & every call. It has now been almost 9 months, and I have yet to receive the first $50 gift card... which was supposed to be sent after 6 months.     We’ve got the option here in New Jersey that we could take an outsider for delivery. Also, Direct Energy's rate was better than our original. It's on freeze for a year. My gas bill is lower because of that. Once I signed the paperwork, everything's okay. When I do my bills, I'll check to see if it's time to renew the contract and if the price is still good, because when the contract expires, the price would go back to what it normally should be, at a higher rate. But right now, I'm satisfied with Direct Energy.

    I've been with Direct Energy for almost two years. I first heard about them through PSE&G and their switch program for lower rate. An agent started coming around to the house and changing people over. They came, changed us over, and gave us a cheaper rate. They said if we stay with Direct Energy for three years, they'd give us a free thermostat.

    Our service with Direct Energy is good and the bill rate is a lot cheaper. They came to the house and it was good. They were polite and courteous, told me exactly what they were going to do, as well as told me what my rate was going to be and how long it was going to be fixed for. They explained everything, the rate increase, rate hikes, and the lows, as well as the merchandise that they offer if we all keep the program, or if we don't keep the program, and it worked out really well. I already recommended them to people, for if they want to get a free thermostat, want to purchase one, or want a cheaper rate in their next bill. It's a really good program.

    I made a rate comparison and found that Direct Energy's rate was reasonable so I went with them. They were less costly than PSE&G, however, it was almost even last year. I didn't switch though to PSE&G though as Direct was right in the same ballpark. So far, I haven't had any service interruptions. Also, I dealt with Direct's staff on the phone recently but everything was very professional. On the whole, Direct Energy has good service and it's been a positive experience.

    When I first started with them, I paid a considerable amount of money compared to with Consumers but in more recent years it hasn't been as much. You don't know if they're going to go up or not. Since I have had the initial good experience, I went with them again. I wasn't as satisfied the second but I didn't say this much as time went on. Then I renewed this year, I called and I had to do some checking. When I called back, they quoted me a different and a higher price than they had given me originally. I was just disappointed that it went up in just a couple of days from what they had quoted me before. It made me hesitate. I wasn't sure I was gonna go ahead and do it with them this year or not.

    I had contacted Direct Energy back in December when I found out that the other companies in our city were offering rebates to their customers. So I asked and Direct Energy said they don't offer rebates. So when I was preparing my move I called to put a cancellation order through for our Electricity and Natural Gas, as I went with a company that actually cares about their customers. Only to find out that Direct Energy would be charging me a fee for cancelling both my Electricity and Natural Gas. Nice way to treat customers. Don't offer rebates to help out then charge when someone wants to leave only to have the customer service agent offer incentives to keep me as a customer. Very nice service NOT.

    Their marketing literature said they guaranteed a rate lower than People Gas (the delivery gas standard) and I find out they were 9 cents higher for 12 months. Then apparently my contract lapsed and instead of reaching out to me, they pushed the therm rate from 43.9 cents to 54.9 cents to 61.9 cents in the middle of winter, causing my monthly $80 gas bill to soar to $350!!! I called their customer service and they said it was not their problem and that I was on a variable rate -- I asked to adjust the rate to a fixed rate and they demanded a 12 month agreement and offered me credit in the form of a gift card only at the END of the new 12 month period.

    Do NOT be swayed by any of their offers -- they are not affordable and their customer service is a joke - I don't think they hire more than 1 or 2 people and it probably is just to deal with angry customers like me, since People's Gas is the real customer service and defacto delivery of gas in Chicago. I am stuck with $350 of unaffordable gas service thanks to their shady tactics that jacked up my therm rate by 50% in 2 months! Stay away from them -- they are a ripoff.

    I was practically force to sign with them. Representative wouldn't leave my apartment without a sign contract, after telling him a thousand times that I was not interested. I freak out because I have a baby at home and him simply would not leave. He offer me a lower bill if I sign and I wouldn't not buy but well I sign. I just wanted him out of my apartment. The bill was higher and sometimes ridiculous high. So after calling them many time I decided to go back to my regular provider. So now they send me a bill for 198 dollar for breaking the contract that they did not honor with a higher bill than they originally offer. They're now harassing me to get payment on that bill. I need help. This thieves cannot go around forcing people to sign a contract that is just beneficial for them. I started with them in 3/29/2016 you can see the variation in the bill since then and I went back to my regular company on or around September.

    It was my very first apartment and the leasing agent suggested that I use Direct Energy because he has it and he said they're good. So I've been with Direct Energy ever since. I use it strictly for electric. Last October, they sent me an email when my contract was almost up. It said to call in to see what specials they have. I want to keep everything as is and I asked them what they had going. The gentleman I spoke with that day was very helpful, and explained the different plans they have and the differences between them. He guided me into which plan was probably best for me and it was something that was rather cheap, so I was very happy with it.

    I've recommended Direct Energy to everybody. People always ask me how much my bill on average is and they can't believe it when I say it's no more than $50. I'm in a full one bedroom, so it is a little bit bigger than my first apartment. But it probably isn't that much because I'm not running gas. They still have been great and I haven't had any problems. The app gets a little bit glitch-y so I deleted it from my phone, but I can just go online.

    We had Direct Energy before in our old house, and then we moved and tried to get them again. They were screwing us around and it was not a very good experience. We were with some other company before where our bill was just ridiculous. It was high that we switched, and Direct Energy had the best rate at that time for what we needed. At first, the service was about the same as the previous company, but most recently, when we moved into our new house, they were pissing me off and it was very frustrating being on the phone with them for six hours. Apparently, they needed a copy of our Social Security number, which I've never heard of in my life. And apparently, whenever we get flagged for something fraudulent, we have to do that to get our account opened. I didn't even want to use them. We tried to go to another company and told Direct Energy to cancel everything, but they didn't, and we ended up having a contract with them somehow.

    I just bought a first-time home and when I was looking for an electricity or natural gas provider, Direct Energy was the only one who had somebody from America to talk to. I tried several people and every time I got somebody I couldn’t even understand what they were saying. It's been good with the team at Direct Energy except when I first signed up and they told me they gave me a good deal. But then I found out that a friend of mine, who’s using Direct Energy too, has a lot cheaper rate and I was wondering what’s going on. In other words, the first representative I dealt with at the beginning wasn't very informative with different packages I could have because I wanted the cheapest rate I could get. So when I called back Direct Energy, the second representative was more informative on other offers that are out there and I was able to get a lower rate.

    Also, I don’t know if I’m convinced just yet that Direct Energy is cheaper than some of the other providers because after doing more research, and talking to friends and family that had other providers, their electric bill seems to be a lot cheaper than mine and they're home all day while nobody's home at my house until dark. But overall, everything went smoothly. I’ve got power so it’s good.

    My wife was harassed this evening by a sales person claiming to be from AEP Ohio. Would not let her say no and go back in the house. Conned her into no string attached service. Little did she know he was not from AEP, but Direct Energy. The so called paperwork has nothing but 4 scribbles from sales guy Eric. The fine print of 2 year commitment and cancel fees were never discussed. Writing this to warn people of this shady practice. Will be trying to cancel this but sure it will be a hassle.     I got online and Direct Energy was the one that had the lowest rate. However upon renewal, if they have any promotions or discounts, I didn't know of any of them until after I've renewed. Because once the rates go up after a year or two, whatever the promotion is, there's no notification sent out saying that the promotion ended and if I wanted to look at other options. But their reps have always been pleasant, knowledgeable and very helpful in giving out different plans where I'm able to choose one. I'm very satisfied with regards to that.

    I've used Stream and Reliant in the past and Direct Energy is comparable with them. But with Stream, they would've called or notified me via email when my contract was up. Also, I was disappointed with Direct Energy when for five months, I paid three times of what I should've paid. We live in a two-bedroom apartment and last month our electricity was $40 but there's one month when it's $160, which was ridiculous. But, that's my only issue and I've been with Direct Energy for a while.

    Direct Energy has sales representative go door-to-door to sell people on cheaper gas prices for residential homes, but it is a scam, as DTE continues to sell and distribute your natural gas, and Direct Energy cash in on whatever scam that the company is running. I stumbled on their shenanigans by talking again with my DTE, and DTE has informed me that this must be some other program that I am enrolled in that has nothing to do with what DTE have been doing for me for the past 20 + years.

    Direct Energy's service is great. However, I'm in a 1-bedroom residence now and my light bill has gone up and I'm not at home during the day. My light bill is at $10 to $15. It maybe because I moved to a smaller place, but I was in a 3-bedroom before and my bill was only $40 to $60 a month. Overall, my experience has been fine.

    At the moment, I'm fine with Direct Energy. They're pretty tops. I went with them because I didn't want to stay with TXU. I was real pleased with my electricity bill this month because it was only $128 and we've had some cool weather. The rep who extended my service was very nice. I called to check on something and he told me that I just had another month but he would connect me with my new service as quick as it came up. I'm very satisfied with Direct Energy right now and would recommend them. The only complaint I have is that they charge me a fee when I don't use enough energy. I've got a house that's well-insulated, and I resented having to pay for energy that I'm not using, although it's not much. But I didn't get charged that fee this month, and I'm watching that closely.

    Direct Energy had a good price point and different flexible plans like the weekend free. We are one month into their service and so far, so good. It was a smooth interaction and we haven't had any problems. Their support staff is friendly and they provide all the information. The most important thing to understand is that there really should be a transparent fee. What is the price plan? How much are the real-time charges and proposed charges which are going to be affecting or coming my way? That kind of clarity is what is required and that's what I found out in Direct Energy. The only difference is Direct Energy's hours of operation are comparatively less than the previous service provider.

    A salesman showed up at our door saying he was with our energy company. It was freezing out so we invited him in. At which time we foolishly signed the agreement with him saying that there was a fee that would be reduced on our bill. Only as we were signing did he say that he was actually with Direct Energy but made it sound as if they were just removing a $30 charge on our account. Not changing our service. The whole thing felt sketchy. Due to me thinking that my husband understood what the guy was talking about and my husband thinking I understood, we ignorantly had signed their contract.

    After googling the company, I tried to go back outside to grab the guy and cancel (they were going door to door at our condo building) but he had left. At this point it was 7:30 pm and we couldnt call our utility company due to them being closed, and it takes repeated calls to get ahold of someone at Direct Energy. I got hung up on and put on hold while I was in the middle of a sentence with no warning. By the time I finally got ahold of someone, they said the information on my account wasn't available yet and I would have to call back later. I'm afraid that I'll be stuck with some charge now after seeing similar reviews. I really don't want this to turn into a months long hassle like some other reviewers. I don't know how what this company is doing is legal! It seems like a huge scam to me.

    I've used Cirro in the past and the rate was lower, but the current deal that Direct Energy had at the time was the free electricity weekend. Both of them were great and as far as service goes, they're about the same. But Direct Energy's rates are much better. It's really seamless. It's easy to use in regards to paying and seeing how much energy we use on a regular basis through my account online. Their mobile feature is also a lot better than Cirro's. It's easier to use and more up-to-date so that's a plus as well.

    A salesperson came to the door when I (the account holder for our Gas and Electric) was not home and allowed him to sign up for this. Sadly I know the scam this company runs promising lower rates, blah blah blah, when it is actually the complete opposite and it honestly ends up affecting you badly if something happens with your electric or gas provider as the provider will make you work with Direct Energy. I want to cancel this immediately and I will not be paying the outrageous $99 fee to do so. What needs to happen?

    UPDATED ON 05/07/2017: I was told over two months ago that my account was being cancelled after allowing my husband is not the main name on the account to sign up without my knowledge. Here we are 2 months later and Direct Energy is still showing up on my bill. I've left a review before but they have disputed that review as I was unable to provide information on whom the salesperson was because that information was never provided to us. I have an extra $80 on my Bill now and unless I pay $99 I can't cancel this. Nothing but a scam and the customer service is horrible and unwilling to help. Unprofessional and a waste of time.

Their price seems a lot lower than the previous provider which I had used for a long time.     When we were with TU Electric, I got a $525 electric bill and was about to have a stroke. My friend then asked me to try Direct Energy as that’s who they’re with and they’ve been pleased with them. So a guy from Direct Energy came, talked to us, and I liked what was said so we went with them. We cut our bill by about 25% the first year. Then our cooling system went out so we got a new a high-efficiency cooling system which cut our bill even then. Three years ago, in December, we had that big bill, but every year it’s come down. This year for December, we had all the family for Christmas and people in and out, and the bill was only $200.

    But then Reliant Energy went over to my stepmom's house, told her that they'd give her $100 if she would change over and she, nearly deaf and can't see very well, said okay. So when she got her past two bills from Direct and then another bill from Reliant, she called me and I went over. She didn't understand what was going on. She said that she got this bill from Direct's new place. I asked her what new place that was and she said that they changed the name. I said that they haven’t changed the name and saw that it was that Reliant bill. So I called Reliant to close the account which they did but they said they were gonna disconnect it that night. My stepmom was in a panic.

    I called Direct Energy and explained to a really sweet girl what happened. She asked for our phone number and said she'd call back. It wasn't even ten minutes when she called me back, told me everything was switched over and was good to go. So I was well pleased. That relieved my stepmom's mind a lot. Working with Direct Energy has given me more money to spend. Their guys are very professional and courteous. If I have a question, they answer it or make a suggestion if it’s something better, which I appreciate. I've also recommended Direct Energy to other people.

    This evening a person claiming to be from JCP&L came to my door to fix a problem on our bill. I advised her that I wasn't the homeowner and she said as long as I was the one paying the bills for the homeowner it was ok. She had me get my bill and once I got it she asked for the gas bill as well. Before I could ask questions she had me sign on a tablet but told me to write in the homeowner's name. Right there I was feeling pressure. I asked what company she was with as I already had a bad experience with Veridian and she said she's been "cleaning up those messes with the neighbors too". She finally told me she was with Direct Energy. I don't understand the need to lie and say she was coming from JCP&L to "fix the mistake" on my bill.

    She called someone and within seconds I received a call. She asked me to keep it on speaker and to answer yes to all the questions but to not let them know she was still here. She claimed it was because they couldn't answer questions and dealing with them was a "nightmare". While the offer she finally presented did sound good, the fact that she asked me to lie and sign as someone else has left a terrible impression. The homeowner was contacted during the visit and because of the shadiness has decided to not get the service. If you are proud of your product and what you can deliver, you shouldn't have your representatives lie.

    I had Direct Energy when I lived in a metroplex prior to moving out. I just moved back and I got them for my home. When I was moving back, I assumed I'm going to be moving into one unit. Two days before I move they said they want to move me into another unit but I had already set up my electric. So, I had to call Direct Energy's customer service immediately and switched units I was moving into. So far everything went good. We have been using Direct Energy for a while now, even before I moved but my bill is unusually low. I’m going to call them next bill if it was that low again to make sure they have my right service address because I'm not used to my bill being this low. If it is this low and this is a legitimate bill they will hear nothing but good words from me because this is an unexpected price.

About an hour later after reading all the fine print I call to cancel and after reading all this reviews too! I call an hour or so after I sign still have my 3 days to cancel! I got a confirmation number. Now me who's been working in the legal system myself recorded the conversation with them just in case they have no records of me speaking to them.     I love Direct Energy. They're cheaper than everybody else and I've had no problems except for the hassle of paying my personal account. I have four business accounts and two personal accounts. I like paying over the phone and it goes fine for the business accounts. Everything they ask me goes through. But with the personal accounts, they can't find my phone number when I call. And when it gets to the part where I pay, I give them the routing number and checking account, and then it tells me to repeat. I do that three or four times then they send me to someone else. I pay for it with a business checking account and it doesn't accept it.

    The last time I paid, I told the rep about it and she tried to do something but I don't know if it has been taken care of or not. The last time on my house, I wrote a check and sent it through the mail. But I have another place and I called that one in because it was late and I felt that it's better to do the transaction over the phone than wait for them to get the check. Other than this, I don’t worry as much about the electricity bill coming in high. I'm very thankful that it is extremely reasonable. The reps I’ve talked to were all nice people.

    I still haven’t received the $100 gift card I was promised by Direct Energy. I moved into an apartment complex and Direct Energy called 3 months ago and said that they would give me a bill with a lot less to owe and $100. So I said okay. Then I got a bill that was just as much and no $100. I’ve tried calling them but it was holiday. We are buried with work and calling about a $100 gift card isn’t on the top of my priorities but I’m still mad about it. It might work out well if I could take advantage of the free electricity. I know this isn't Direct Energy's fault but I just can’t get my woman to do the laundry on a Saturday instead of a Sunday. And she insists on waiting until after the free electricity is over.

    I really enjoyed my interactions with the team at Direct Energy. They were persistent to a degree that I had invited them to be and never missed a callback because it wasn’t just a right-then-and-there on-the-spot decision to go with them. The rep had to call me back over the course of a week before I could finally convince my better half that we should make the move. It's been a satisfactory experience overall.

    When I went to get an apartment, I asked my parents what was the best electricity or natural gas provider and they shared that Direct Energy was the one they have. When I moved in, I got a contract but then they changed it on a different plan now which is way cheaper than the one I had the first time. It's $50 cheaper so I like it. Every time I call or have a question, their reps are always nice and always help me with what I need. As far as I've had it, it's been good and I'm happy with it so I wouldn't change the company. I have a good plan.

    The price of my service went down as I switched from Texas Reliant Energy to Direct Energy, which had the best price. I like that it has the free weekends. It's working for me so far. Their team members were very helpful and let me choose the plan that gave me the best and cheapest price. So, I like that. The only thing is that I put it on automatic draft which is supposed to be every first of the month but they didn't bill us for the first of the month so I'm going to their website now to see if they charged me. But if somebody asked me, I would recommend Direct Energy. My experience with them has been great so far though I've only had it since November, so we'll see what the future holds.

    Direct Energy was the energy company that our renters had. It was also the one that was already in the house when we were about to move in, and we didn't change to another energy provider because of the switch hold that was placed on the previous occupants. It got to the point where we had to have Direct Energy or we wouldn't be able to move in in time. So, our choices for energy providers were eliminated when we moved down here. The fact that we haven't changed our energy provider may seem like we're happy with Direct Energy, but actually we're not incredibly happy with them. But they're okay and I'm not completely against them.

    We had used another energy provider in the past, but not here in Texas. We come from Michigan, where everything was regulated by the Public Service Commission. We got both our gas and electricity from Consumers Power, and they were essentially a regulated monopoly, but we actually preferred that, believe it or not. They were able to have us go on an equal monthly payment plan, but Direct Energy doesn't seem to be able to do that correctly. Compared to Direct Energy in Texas, our gas bill was much higher with Consumers Power in Michigan, but our electricity bill was about the same.

    Furthermore, I don't like having to negotiate every year on a contract. Direct Energy doesn't tell me when my contract is up, and AT&T does the same thing, but I don't particularly like that. If we’re going to do a contract, I'd rather do one for a couple of years, rather than for just one year, but I realize and understand that they can't lock in the rate for that long.

    In addition, we don't like the way that it's done down here with all the different energy companies, and we're not happy with it. When anything goes physically wrong, we're dealing with CenterPoint, as opposed to Direct Energy, because CenterPoint is in charge of all the equipment. It's bizarre. What's Direct Energy doing other than renting lines from CenterPoint and then charging us for electricity on lines they rent?

    I found out the other energy provider was charging too much rate. Somebody told me that Direct Energy was a lot cheaper and I'm by myself so it was a whole lot different.. It was easy signing up. Overall, it's been good for me. I noticed lower monthly bills and I'm not just having any problems with it right now.

    A friend of mine recommended an energy service that provides weekends for free. She said she had one that really works. I called the phone number that I get for energy and they suggested Direct Energy. So far, we're happy. However, I wish the bill was cheaper. In the summer, the bill is certainly more expensive because of the AC. But other than that, I'm really satisfied and I would recommend them to a friend.

    We've been with Direct Energy since 2009 and our experience has all been good. We haven't had any power outages that have been long, and they're also cheaper than other providers that’s why most people would take Direct because they have a better price. They're a great company.

    In the very beginning, I got a call from somebody at Direct Energy and they said they wanted to discuss my account but they didn’t have me register. They said I had been a customer since 2005 which was not true and it was a little unnerving, but they got all that straightened out. I’m hoping that the rate is going to be better because with the other company I had before, I was getting weekends free. With Direct Energy I’m not, but the rate’s supposed to be lower so we’ll see.

    I used to have Direct Energy before then they raised the rates on me so I swapped. Then they contacted me again and gave me a longer contract. But then the other company charged me $800 to terminate services because I got two different service addresses that I gave them. Each of the service addresses got me for $400. Also, Direct Energy was gonna send me some prepaid cards but I never received them and I haven't had time to reach out to them. But as long as they're reasonable on the rates and don't try to hack them on me, I'm good with them. I'm happy with the company so far even if I haven't been back with them long.

    We were with TXU before but they always asked for a really high deposit even if our credit was really good, and their price went up sometimes even if it's the same kilowatts. But with Direct Energy which I've had when I was living with my dad, I always got a good rate. There was only one occasion where they forgot to charge me for something and they ended up charging me within a couple of months later. But other than that, the rates were always the same, they would never really go too high up, and I wasn't even asked for a deposit. Everyone's been really helpful if I call, need something, or with any questions or issues that I have.

    Working with Direct Energy has saved me money because I'm in the new plan, where it's only for a year, and I get weekends for free. So, I'm really taking advantage of that and enjoying it. However, I don't know if that promotion would still continue after a year or if I could even renovate it or maybe switch it over because I have two accounts. One account is my old one, which is where dad still lives and my new account is where I live now. When I asked, they told me it was for new members only. So, I want to see if it could be used on the old account but they said it wasn't available. So, that's the only thing. On the old account and if my year completes, I would like to continue on that same service. Other than that, Direct Energy has provided good service.
