    I've been with Direct Energy for so long and I'm satisfied with them. I decided to go with them because of their pricing. Their guys are very courteous. I was on a plan not too long ago and I noticed one month that my bill was a $40 higher than usual and I said, "Oh, well, it's summer time." The next month, it came back and it's still high. I called them up about the past two months and they said, "Yeah, the plan you were on expired," I say, "Oh, okay." I easily got back on the plan and it's been steady ever since. I'm satisfied with them and I've recommended Direct Energy to one co-worker who moved in the same complex where I'm at and she signed up with them.

I contacted them already but nobody tried to explain what happened. I’m getting charged way higher and right now, I'm really bonded with the agreement.     I was born and raised in Corpus Christi and when I married, we used CPL. We didn’t have any choice so we used them for over 40 years. We moved and I needed to transfer at night. There were so many companies, I called several of them, and Direct Energy was the easiest one to take. Other providers wanted eight references and also wanted me to fax them the information.

    The young man from Direct Energy who helped me was very nice and professional. He said that they can do that with our history since I have a good credit record. He also said that they can get the light for us that day. When I had it done, I paid a little extra because I took an insurance that in case we have a blowout that the electricity is turned off and something is damaged because of that then they would take care of that. With Direct Energy, we are experiencing lower monthly bills. But the summer is the one that had a little bit higher because it's South Texas. I have written as a draft and so they let me know but I still get my bills and how much energy I used.

    I've been with Direct Energy for at least five years. The price went up a bit when I last signed with them but I didn't have time to deal with it, so I went ahead and renewed. I just didn't realize that I was out of my contract. They said that they had attempted to call and email, but I don't recall getting it. The bill was high for a couple of months before I realized. And unfortunately for me, it was during summer months, so the bill jacked up high. But then, I got back on a price setting, so I was okay. The renewal process was fine. It was through a phone call, and then I went over with what I was agreeing to. Customers should make sure they know when their contract ends, or they should watch their emails.

    Somebody from Direct Energy came to my door and I’ve been with them for more than five years. Some of the reps don’t explain themselves well. Sometimes, we have poor communication and it may be because of language barrier because I can barely understand what they’re saying. Also, I can’t get online or on my app to change my banking information. Whenever I would push a payment, it would not submit it with the info that I try to put in at that time. It would stay with the old information I had registered there for my banking system. When we wanna go in and make that change, it should be successful to where we can get to it. If they can’t, then they need to have people who have the proper training to make the change. Also, there were a couple of times that we were financially struggling because of work that cut hours and they didn’t do any kind of deferment. Nevertheless, I’m always content with my bills which have been comparable and I like the price.

    Wish I could give 0 stars. They do not send bills or disconnect notices so you never know what they are charging you or when it's due. They just disconnect your service. Also after the first few bills they will slip a $150 delivery charge in there without you knowing. This is a very shady company.

    I’ve been with Direct Energy for about three years now, and so far, it has been good. The only thing is with my distributor. I’m slightly getting billed much higher than when I was with the previous similar plan. The plan was more or less the same but my bills have jumped by close to 20-25% with the same usage. The ease of communication with customer service was also not there. Their website can also be much better, compared to what other companies have. But my interactions with their reps have been fair.

    I was impressed by Direct Energy's offer two and a half years back. They had a free weekend plan at a very reasonable rate. But now, I am totally dissatisfied with them. They have cheated me and gave a different rate on the phone when I signed up for my contract again when it came up for renewal. I asked them whether it was the per hour rate total, and they said it was true. But when I signed up for the account and looked up online, the rates wind up being almost twice. I called Direct Energy a couple of times and they said they have an inquiry on it, but nobody has ever gotten back to me.

    Direct Energy's reps always refer to some other person. There is never an answer to my direct question. After I got treated this way, I'll take my personal time to go to everybody and ask them not to go with Direct Energy. That's how dissatisfied I am. I have already referred 30 people in my friend circle and at work but now, I am totally, totally against Direct Energy.

    We’ve been using Direct Energy for so long and we haven’t had any issues. If I have a special rate though and when it expires, then it will go to a month-to-month rate and they can charge whatever they want. I’m getting charged more, so I have to keep up and remember if my service expires. It’s a pain because I have to call to get a better rate. But their reps always figure out a new plan for us and it seems that everything is fine.

    I first heard about Direct Energy when I moved to Odessa. I researched, and they were one of the companies that had the best free weekend rate. Their customer service was good. If I had any issues or anything happened, they were usually on it pretty fast. The cost was pretty good compared to service as well. I only had one or two outages in two years while I was with them. They got a good kilowatt per hour rate and great different deals to use too. Great different yearly contracts as well.

    Direct Energy has a cheaper rate, considering the perks that come with it. I like the nights and weekends. It benefitted me to use those perks because of my schedule. I'm a teacher and a coach, and that's the only time I have to really do housework. So it's nice knowing that I'm basically not charged for the time I am at home.     We used to be with TXU, but we switched over since Direct Energy had better rates. Also, you had to go through so many channels and different prompts to get someone on the phone with TXU. With Direct Energy, it's easier to get a person on the phone and the reps always explained everything that I was getting. We recently moved and where we moved, they were trying to make sure that I was getting the best rate. We have been with them since 2004 and they take care of you. They should be hearing from somebody soon because I gave information about them.

    Direct Energy's rate made me go with them and I've been with them for more than two years. When I had to do the renewal a few months ago, I dealt with their reps and picked another plan with them. This particular change, their rate went up a teensy bit, but I went ahead and went with their three-year plan. I noticed when I first went with them, there was a good drop in the cost. It was .046 but now it's .049. But I'm pleased with the company.

    Direct Energy had some salesmen going door-to-door. One came and showed us the plan and the rates. It looked much better than what we had at the time and we signed up with them. The previous company we had offered a good rate, but all of a sudden, without even us noticing, our rate was way high and I had enough of that. With Direct Energy, our bill has been lower. The rates are very reasonable and there are no overcharges or sudden rate hikes. Plus, the kind of service they provide provides us with a way to save, which is very good. They give us information and don't keep things hidden. When someone asks who my energy provider is, I always refer them to Direct Energy which should keep on satisfying the customers. If the customers are getting a good service, then they will have more.

    When Direct Energy bought out NYSEG Solutions, customers like me were supposedly sent a letter by NYSEG to make choices about energy supply companies, a letter I never saw. I was put into the most expensive rate, the variable rate, which became outrageously expensive for a residential account. Direct Energy continued to bill me at the most expensive rate, claiming they have no control over changing this rate, according to state laws I have not yet researched. I have now chosen another ESCO. I still have to pay a final, outrageous bill to Direct Energy before the new ESCO kicks in. I warn all consumers against companies, like Direct Energy who will charge consumers at the very highest rate because they can get away with it. I did not deserve to be charged at this rate; I have been very unfairly overcharged by Direct Energy. Direct Energy blames NYSEG, of course. Meanwhile, the consumer is victimized. Avoid this company.

    Direct Energy had a discounted rate so I got them and I've been with them for a couple of years now. Their service and bill were consistent until I ran out of their contract then it spiked astronomically. They should notify the consumer before their term expires so that they can rework a new term. Other than that, my experience with them hasn't been problematic. Although customer service takes a little longer to get a hold of, everything has operated as it's supposed to.

    Reliant sucks and although I've been introduced to several plans here in Texas, Direct Energy has been the fair rate. People say, "Oh, you go with TXU or whatever right now, you're gonna get this much and this much." But look at it 10 more minutes long. What are you gonna be paying in a year? If you wanna jump around and look for the deal from year to year, have at it. But I selected Direct probably because it was not a promotional deal. When they gave me their rate, it was straight up. There was no plot and I appreciated that. A Reliant guy even came around selling their plan and this is a friend of mine from down the street so I've know the kid for a long time. But when I showed them my rate, straight up, he said that Direct was good and that I'd be best sticking with Direct.

    There has been a standard increase in the electric rate recently and I don't know if it's because of the weird weather we've been having. But I've been with Direct Energy for 15 years now and as far as sticking with it and going year to year, it has been fine for me. I also spoke to them last time because I was late. I referred to my previous billing cycles with not being late with my bill and the fees were dropped. I've been satisfied with the service and I would recommend them.

    I chose Direct Energy as my ESCO in May 2018, received a contract in June, and never received service. Called in September and received a new contract in October, but still no service as of January 2019. Called again and was told that my contract failed to "go through" each time for some unknown reason but I was again offered a "new" deal which once again included a higher price AND a shorter duration. A very suspicious way of doing business, to say the least. I won't be fooled a third time and, if I could, I'd give them zero stars.

    I have been using Direct Energy for four years and their team is fine. They come proactively when it is to renew my contract to get me off of the month to month which is a higher rate. And whenever I have to renew, they kinda have to us the Choose Texas website which is clunky and kind of hard to use. Moreover, the electric companies are just brokers for it. We are paying more for Direct Energy and I'm not too sure what we're getting versus the other providers. They seem the same and at the end of the day, I do not know if it is worth 25% more to stay with DE? Given my experience, I'm neither super satisfied or dissatisfied with them.

    I’ve been a customer with Direct Energy for almost two years now. It was through a friend’s referral. However, the services weren’t good. Basically, their energy was not charged right for the new plan. It was around ¢14, but when I had taken it, it was around the ¢18 in the first year. That’s the reason that I wanted to have Direct Energy from my second year as well, but I didn’t know that it’s going to be very costly for me. That’s why I'm looking for other companies, if I can shift to another one which is cheaper. Direct Energy said that they change my plan to a different one, but they said that they need to extend my contract to another three or four months. However, I wanted it to be within the existing one year contract.

    My neighbor had Direct Energy and I liked the price and the fairly good ratings. Direct Energy is good and if you pay your bills on time, there isn’t any problem. Their price was better than what I had before but at that time, everything was high. I was gonna shop around because I want to lock my rate in again. Over the summer, I was pleasantly surprised that the amount I paid per month did not seem to go up that much. Since I’ve been with them, my bill is lower and I haven’t had any disruption other than the typical problems with transformers, floods and things that we’re not in control of. I have been with Direct Energy for a couple of years and I either pay online or by phone. Their website is user-friendly. As long as their rate and process are good, I would stay with them.

    I have moved with Direct Energy when I bought my new house back in the summer of ‘13. When I first started, they have free weekends and that's what I liked about them. Since I'm on direct draft, Direct Energy gets paid every month. I get a weekly email telling me if my usage was up or down so I know where I'm going. But that doesn’t reflect the free weekend so I never exactly know where I'm going at. Other than that, I had to renew about two months ago because my old one had expired. That’s never fun though since there's a new rate and I'm not sure how much difference it is. But it was painless to do. I just log on to my account and reset my password.     I started out with Reliant but it seemed like I was calling them more than I wasn’t. I was done with them. I switched to Direct Energy and I’ve been with them for seven years. Most of the time, their customer service is 100% awesome. Everybody is nice, friendly, and helpful. But it aggravates me that I have to call when the contract is up and renegotiate. A girl called and said that I was late. I told her I understood that. But my husband gets a social security check, and until that happens, I can't do anything. I couldn't pay them.

    Also, one of their reps got in the computer, messed everything up and took me from 5.6 per kilowatt to 16 cents per kilowatt. I got a shocker bill this month. It was the highest bill I have paid in the last three years. My rate has changed and Direct Energy's guy could only give me a $50 credit on the bill.     I've been with Direct Energy for 10 years now and they've always given me a decent price for what I have. I used to have TXU and their prices were always too high. I recently renewed my contract and they got me the weekend - from 9 o’clock at night on Friday until Sunday night - for free. I like that because by then, I can do my cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Also, the renewal process was really easy. They call you and let you know that it’s time to renew. They give you options and promotions that are going on and you see which ones you like. After that, you agree to it over the phone and that's it. Direct Energy's customer service is also really nice, very helpful, and good at explaining things. When you ask questions, they answer directly. Sometimes, when you talk to some merchants and ask them a question, they give you this runaround kind of answer, and I have never experienced that with them.

    I did not know that there would be extra charges from our local gas supplier, who owns the pipeline. It's not a lot, but it adds up. Then, if you do not pay close attention when your contract expires you will be on a variable rate. Ours went from $.40 per CCf to $.94 per CCF. This is obscene. Beware, the alternate gas companies are not, I repeat, are not regulated by your State regulatory agencies.

I usually get weekly updates. But now, every time I switch to a new plan, there seems to be a lag with them getting those. The only thing that's aggravating as well and it's everywhere, is that if you've sign up for a plan and then you've never been late your bill still goes up. But I guess that's the thing with energy prices. You get a company that's like "Hey, we'll give you this rate for a year, and this one, we'll do this." There's better rates out there, but because I've had Direct Energy for so long and because of their website I'll just stick with what I got.

    People from our apartment complex said that Direct Energy was one of the top companies that was recommended. We have been with the company for four years, and their service has been great and we've never had an issue with them. Our electricity flows and it comes in 120 and 60 hertz. However, the price has been a little strange. We have the Free Power Saturday plan, and they say it's an average of 11.6 a kilowatt hour, and when you look at the bill, there's like 18 cents and it's kind of all over the place. It is still manageable though.

    There was a young man that came to my door and wanted to talk to me about my electrical and I was not happy with what I’ve been having with my bill. The Direct Energy fee was so much less per unit and so I signed up with him, and I have been totally pleased because my bills have been so much less than what I was paying for many years. I have not noticed anything different than what I’ve experienced all through the years that I’ve had electricity.

    My electrical service has always been good. Anytime that I’ve had the lights go out, or lose my use with my electricity, I’ve called them right away, and been informed that it’s already been already taken care of, and they’ll let me know when it’ll be back on. However, in the last year, my rates have gone up more than I had expected so I wasn’t too thrilled about that. But we’ll see how it plays out. I talked and told others that I’m with Direct Energy and they said that it was something to think about.

    I choose the free weekend plan. Everything was fine until I realized that it is not actually free usage for the weekend. My bill was about 70 dollars. I had a big birthday party on the weekend so I could save on electricity, big mistake! My bill for that month was increased to about 120 dollars! I called them to explain why the extreme high increase and the only difference in usage for that month was this party on a weekday? I was told that I used a small amount of energy on the weekend and had increased my usage on the weekdays, which was totally a lie. Direct Energy is estimating your bill on what they want to credit for usage on the weekend and the remaining bill is yours.

    I signed up with Direct Energy and moved into this house about eight years ago. They haven’t given me any issues, which is why I’m still with them. They do a good job with the rate plan. But I don’t like that I have to go in there and re-sign up for a plan. If I forget, they don’t mind quickly charging me a higher rate. They should send out reminders when their customers' plans are up so that their customers can sign up for a new one. Their website is good though. I pay and do everything online.

    It was a Direct Energy employee stopped by my house and he showed me how they can keep my rate low as $3.00 but within a month my rate went up a $1.50 for gas. I canceled my plan then Direct Energy automatically put me back in without my consent. This place is horrible. I would not recommend no one to use Direct Energy. Please everyone look at your bill. They are overcharging you for your state rate. Call another supplier and ask them how much is the rate and you will see the difference and how much Direct Energy is charging you.

I usually renew my policy every year and this is the first time I ever signed it for two years. Ever since I've signed this new deal with them, it seems my electric bill is more. It's not what I'm accustomed to paying and I don't see the benefit. My bill last December was $19. This year, it's $54. I think it has something to do with the plan that they convinced me to get and it's not working out too well. This deal is supposed to be free weekends. But I don't really think it's free weekends. They're calculating their money in some kind of way. It's just me in a one bedroom and I'm not used to a bill that's high. But other than that, the interaction with their team has been fine. They've been professional and helpful.

    I liked the prices of Direct Energy at the time, as well as their kilowatt and voltage. I have used another energy provider, TXU, in the past, but Direct Energy is better. When I call, it’s always easier and the people that I talk to don’t give me the runaround, compared to the energy company that I was with before. Also, the monthly bills are lower. A year ago, though, my bills with Direct Energy were a little lower than they are this time, which is at the same time during winter. My bills then used to run from $80 to $120, but this month I got a $180 bill. Nevertheless, I like the services that Direct Energy provides. My dealings with their team have been very good.     I was referred to Direct Energy by a friend and I signed up with them due to the experience that my friend got with them. He told me that they're a good company. I just moved in to the state and they're my first energy provider. So far, it has been good with them and everything has been going fine. The process of signing up with them was so easy.     Direct Energy was doing a promotion and their price was low. I have them now for my electric company. But I had some issues with them and my interactions with their people were pleasant. When I did the promotion, there was a $100 Visa credit that I was supposed to get but I never got it. I had to contact them several times about that. Finally, they sent me a $50 credit Visa card. They still haven’t sent the other one. I’m not happy with their rates, either as it went up. There are a lot of companies up here offering better rates.

The promotion you enrolled with provided a $50 Visa gift card once the account was active, and another $50 card 2-6 weeks after reaching one year of service. The second card was sent on 10/15/18; when you contacted us again to say it was never received, we cancelled the October card and re-sent a third card. In regard to your rate increasing, I can see that your original, fixed-rate contract expired on 8/29/2018. We sent an end of terms notice along with your statement on 7/5/2018, advising of the expiration and providing available offers for new, fixed-rate terms and instructions on how to accept one of those offers. We sent another notice via email on 8/5/2018 reminding of the expiration, and also letting you know that the account would move to a variable rate contract if we did not hear from you regarding your renewal options. Finally, we sent a letter via direct mail on 9/13/2018 advising the fixed-rate had expired and that the account was now on a variable rate plan. It appears that you called in on 9/25/2018 to discuss renewal, and advised you would go online to process. I can see that the renewal was not completed until several weeks later, with an effective date of 12/7/2018. The variable rate plan that your account was on between August 29 and December 6 would certainly have accounted for higher billing, as the variable rates tend to run higher than fixed. I hope this information has helped clarify some of the points you raised in your review.     We used to have First Choice Power-To-Go and that was like a prepaid. I got tired of paying 30 bucks here and 30 bucks there. My wife told me about Direct Energy so that's who I've gone with and I would tell others to go with them as well. It’s going on two months now and so far, it’s been pretty good.     I was researching different electric companies in the area several years ago. At that time, Direct Energy was a good deal. I have had TXU and I wasn’t happy with the rate I was paying. I found Direct Energy which has a better rate. Up until last month, I’ve had really good service with Direct Energy and the rates have been really competitive. But we had a mix up. Oncor is the electricity provider and they were reading the wrong meter or something and that charged us several hundred dollars. I called to complain and they said they’re going to refund the difference of all those charges.

    Direct Energy hasn’t been refunded yet and so they are calling me all the time saying I have a past due bill. I keep explaining to them that it’s going to be refunded, so I don’t owe it. It’s something that I had no control over and I’m just waiting for that happen. Oncor said it would take one to two billing cycles and that I should have it refunded by either the 14th of this month or the 14th of January. But Direct Energy is threatening to shut off my electricity in a couple of days. So,I would have to pay it and hope that Direct Energy pays me back. I’m not happy right now and I would not recommend them. I’m not saying it’s their fault, but they’re not working with me. And I don’t appreciate the way that they’re treating me because it’s something that's going to be taken care of. They’re acting like I have all this back payment owed. I paid all my current bills. I just am not paying that amount that they say that's going to be refunded.

Since we did not receive a response to our renewal notices, your account transitioned to a month to month, variable rate on 1/17/2018; variable rates fluctuate month to month based on several different factors. We sent an additional notice in March of 2018 to inform you of the variable rate, however we did not hear from you until July. During that call, we were able to provide the variable rate information, and then offer you a lower, fixed rate contract, which you accepted. It appears we also gave you an account credit at that time, as well. When you contacted us in August and September regarding your higher than anticipated bills, we explained that your usage had increased significantly between the months of May and September. I see that we also were able to once again lower your rate during the September phone call. It appears that your usage has decreased quite a bit from October to now, so your bills should be back to where you are used to seeing them.     My electric bills can run very high, and it usually does. I was using Green Mountain Energy and the cheapest one I got from them was $130, but last month, my electric bill with Direct Energy was only 87. They were cheaper than I expected. They also sent me one of those Echo Dot machine thingies for free, which I thought was really cool. I didn't even know I would get one and it was a nice surprise.

    I never heard from Direct Energy after I signed up though. I should have a bill by now, but I never received one. I got a courtesy call from them, which never happened with another electric company. It was when I hadn't made the payments after two days after the bill was due. So, I told them I've been meaning to call because I haven't received anything except a privacy policy. The guy said, "No problem, ma'am." He extended my date out for me because I needed another week. He also explained things to me really well over the phone. He told me when my due date is gonna be, set me up and gave me the password information. He also said they had my email wrong in their system.

    I received a very good service. That was the first time I dealt with somebody over the phone and he was like somebody from another country. I couldn't understand what he was saying, but after a moment, I understood what he was saying. He was very friendly so I'm very pleased with Direct Energy thus far. Except for me not receiving the information, the transition was clean. Years ago, I switched from TXU to Green Mountain and this one was even easier than that. I appreciate Direct Energy. They have been very easy to work with.

    I had problems with Central Hudson before. A rep read to me backwards and I got a bill for $1,600. Central Hudson said that if I wanted the bill a bit more reasonable, I had to get a second partner involved in it. Once in a while, Direct Energy's bill was high and getting higher than Central Hudson’s so I called Direct Energy's and they tried knocking down from 8% to 7%. I got on a better program and now, we get billed once a month instead of every other month. Direct Energy's customer service people listened and didn’t make me wait on the phone for three to four minutes.

    I've been with Direct Energy for about four years but for about a year and a half, my contract was off and I was paying high prices. For a while, I decided to change to Reliant. I went to their field person and he offered me something but it was quick and I didn't have a good hold exactly if I wanted Reliant. He was putting me into a 60-something plan then I tried to get out after I found out that I would be in their plan for 60 months and paying so much. It took me about two weeks to get off of Reliant and I went right back to Direct Energy. I talked to an agent and they put me right back into a two-year contract.

    But on the first bill that I received, I had to pay a lot of money. It was $300 and something for about two months. But when it came to Direct Energy, the bill that they sent me was zero. Then on the following bill, it went down and I had to pay around $60. Whatever I pay Anchor, I would pay Direct Energy in the same amount of wattage. That’s how Direct Energy does their calculations. But it depends solely on Anchor if they give Direct Energy a specific pricing because they offer more customers. In comparison, Anchor may offer rates that are much higher for a specific person in the community. Nonetheless, Direct Energy's price is a bit less than that of Reliant Energy. So with Direct Energy, I would be saving a bit more than I would have with Reliant.

    People should make sure that they compare the contracts and not just jump to somebody else. Also, they should check out whatever Direct Energy and Reliant are doing for the community, like providing clean energy instead of using carbon, charcoal, uranium or ore. Consumers should check out how is it that they provide clean energy but at the same contribute to the pollution that exists out there. As for me, I'm satisfied that I'm back in a contract with Direct Energy.

    I had two girls from Direct Energy come to my house and they were having a special deal where if you got their service and used it so long, they give you a special rate. They were very nice and my electric bill was so high that I would do anything that would bring it down. However, I seem to be getting Direct Energy in Dennis but not in Watertown. I've called about it but they never fixed it. So, I didn't get a good impression at all as they didn't take care of the problem. If a company gives you a good rate, you should go with them. But if another company comes along that gives you a better rate, I'd take them. It doesn't makes any difference what the delivery charge is or what delivery you have. You’re still getting your electricity. I'd also like to go back to when it was Boston-Edison and I just got one bill. That was much smoother.

    I was leaving Reliant and I was moving. I was looking for free nights and weekends and I switched to Champion Energy. I hate them and so I tried Direct Energy. I was paying 12.1 at Reliant and was paying $200 energy bills in a one-bedroom apartment. Now, my square footage is about 350 more than what I was living and I'm paying about $75 a month. The guy was telling me that my rate would be 11.9. It should be a fixed 11.9. I got my contract and it was about 12.9 or 13.1 and they said it was a variable rate. That was not what I agreed to on the call so I ended up having to call back. The way it started was bumpy, and Direct Energy didn’t even read me all the disclaimers because the call dropped. They still completed the process to order. Then they put me on a 12-month but I put the 24 months. Even so, my bills are lower than Reliant and I'm satisfied.

    I Googled energy companies and I knew of some bad ones that my friends had used. I saw Direct Energy and that wasn’t one of the ones I had heard bad about. So, I ended up going with them.     I use Direct Energy for my business and I also got them for my home when my contract with another provider was up. I interacted with the customer service and it was fine. Right now, I'm just on a month-to-month because I'm not interested in what they are offering for a contract. The pricing has changed and I told them I did not feel that it was that competitive. While their quality of service is fine, the quality was also fine with what I had before. Direct Energy is not the only ones who can provide quality service. So, if they want to maintain their current customers, they ought to be able to go ahead and beat most of the other offers out there. If they're not, they're not gonna keep somebody who is price-conscious, and that would be me. I'm looking at my options right now.

    Direct Energy renews their rate every year. I signed up for a certain length of time at a guaranteed rate. After that time, we agreed on another rate for a certain length of time. There are no surprises with my monthly bills. It just depends on how hot the weather gets and how much I run my air conditioner. Last time, my contract expired. I got on the phone and their rep said they put me in a flexible rate. I’m sure there was a notice and I didn’t read it. So, I said it was alright.

    Last year, I'd have to look at my bill between Direct Energy and ComEd. I had a bill of 3,000 plus and it was over three months before it was settled. We went back and forth where ComEd saying that it was Direct Energy's fault and Direct Energy was saying that it was ComEd's fault. It was hard for me to tell who was not truthful in the situation and when it was finally resolved, my bills went back to normal. But it made me angry or frustrated that no one was forthcoming about where the error was made.

    Direct Energy, like most of these places of choice, have someone come to your door when they are marketing and wanting to let you know about Direct Energy. As some of these companies, they also say that they are going to lower your costs then they talk to you and give you information. And the company will send you information concerning how they will make your bill lower. Compared to that, ComEd gives you a list of places and tell you that you can choose this company to be your provider, but ComEd will still bill you. Direct Energy's reps will also answer your questions when you call and if you have a concern, they will do that. But if a friend would ask me, I'd tell them to stay with ComEd.

    I did not have a good experience with Direct Energy. Their subsidiaries in Houston are so confusing. I never know which company I'm working with. On top of it, the industry is split into three different segments. One part of the industry takes care of the infrastructure, another part takes care of the billing which was Direct and another part is the one where the energy gets to and from. The whole industry is screwed up because of this. The services aren't very good, nobody knows who their server is and the Texas laws don't force the energy company to call the original client. In my case, what happened was my electric bill was shut off because we were gonna sell a house to a potential buyer. That buyer went in and assumed control over the utilities and my company did not notify me that that had happened.

    The person ended up not buying the house and she shut off the electricity or transferred her electric bill over to the house that she actually bought. So, my house was without electricity. It's an investment property and I don't live there so I was unaware that the electricity was turned off until my Realtor went in there to show the house again and there was no electricity. I could have potentially lost the sale of the house, which affects my livelihood. I just called up and they couldn't even tell me who shut it off or who switched it over. They didn't call me and say, "Hey, did you know that somebody is gonna be switching your utilities over to them?"

    With that, somebody could really mess somebody up and have electricity turned off and switch it over to them. With what happened, people are trying to take advantage of that. What if I had a family on life support and you just go and shut the electricity off without verification? Even for a few hours without ventilator, they could die. Do they even call to check that? That's bad. It's a question of how the system is designed that doesn't allow them to divulge any information. I had to figure out on my own how this could even happen, until it finally occurred to me and said, "Well, did the person who turn the electricity over their name happened to be," and I gave the name of the potential buyer, and they said yes. I said, "Now, that makes sense because she was going to potentially buy it."

    Now, that potential buyer didn't buy the house, so how did she even have the right to go in there and do that in the first place? This commonly happens with rentals. There's such a lack of oversee going on that could potentially cause the death of somebody. Direct Energy shouldn’t be allowed to just let anybody turn off the electricity. There should be verification. They should have an authorization from the owner of the house to switch it over. It's not just Direct Energy. It's any private insurances because they don't have any rules to follow. Their hands are tied and that's the problem. They couldn't give any information. They did try to help me though. Direct Energy needs to push the state to give control or instill some rules to protect people from dying of hypothermia.

    Somebody from Direct Energy came to our door a couple of years ago here in Palestine and we signed up. Back then, their price was better than what we had with TXU. He tried to get us signed up for our house in Jacksonville at that time as well and the house is at County Road 4204 but they have it listed as 4205 which is the road that actually comes in to 4204. We could never get that straightened out.

    Recently, when we started getting ready to move back to our house over at Jacksonville, I got a hold of Direct Energy and signed up with them. The interaction with Direct Energy's customer service team was good, but they kept telling me it’s 4205 and we can’t change it because they say the meter number is registered that way. I had to call the transmission company, Oncor, and what their guy said was, “Just tell them it’s 4205. We have you down as 4204. We’ll hook you up.” Oncor has the address correct and the gentleman there said he would send Direct Energy a notice straightening it out. But it’s still listed wrong. So, we actually pay our bill online so that there’s no mix-up, postal-wise. But once we get over there, Direct Energy is gonna have to get it straightened out. Other than that, as far as Direct Energy's electrical service, I’m really satisfied.

    I've had a good experience with Direct Energy. Every time I've had to renew, I called and they gave me a new rate. However, it was always a higher rate than what I was paying. There was a time when I was using them for electricity then I switched over to a cheaper company. Still, I use them now for our gas.     I had Direct Energy then I renewed it. I did some research on the internet for the best quality, cheaper prices, and not being locked in. This past year, I was gonna go with somebody else, but Direct Energy didn't want me to leave and gave me a better price so I stayed with them. The only thing with Direct Energy is they never notified me that my contract was about ready to expire. For a month and a half, they charged me high prices which was a ripoff. People not letting me know about such is a very big irritant to me.

    One of the nice things with the other providers I had was they sent me a letter letting me know when my contract was about to expire rather than let my energy cost go skyrocketing overnight and not realize that it had expired. But that issue aside, they've always been very nice to me at Direct Energy. We have geothermal here and it is run by electricity. Everything in the house is on electricity. Considering what we have going on, our electricity bills are not really that outrageous.

    I really like Direct Energy. Originally, I was a prepaid customer with them, then when I moved I ended up with another company. The company was awful and they had a weird membership fee where we had to pay deposits and then we never got them back. With Direct Energy, I never had to deal with any kind of deposit and I had no problem going through the enrollment process, which I did online. I called them once to ask how I ended up not having prepaid, and I just happened to sign up on the wrong website. But then when the lady explained to me how it worked, I was okay with it. She told me what I would get, and that my price would be locked-in and I wouldn't have to deal with running out of money every few minutes. I was really happy with the service when I called them.

    I've had Direct Energy for years and I've only called them that one time during the initial set-up process. So, it's totally hassle-free. Even when renewing, I never had to speak to anyone. I do everything online. It's been super seamless and I couldn't be happier. The only sad part is the raise in the electric kilowatt per hour. But I'm still getting free weekends so it balances out at the end. It went from 8.4 to 11.9. And that's something that the company might wanna look into, at least for a customer who has been super good for them, maybe offering another plan that's slightly discounted. Other than that, I'd recommend the service to all my friends.

    I've been with Direct Energy for 27 years, and they've been good. I haven't had any problems with them. I call and pay my bill, and they take care of it. Last month, my bill went up to 200-something dollars, and I couldn't understand why because I'm the only one here. My husband passed away. I work nights, and nobody was here. I called Direct Energy and the rep I spoke with said that it went up to 11 cents, and I told her that was the highest my bill has ever been.     I've been with Direct Energy for 20 years. But lately, the experience has been iffy. I have two locations with Direct Energy. I moved from one to a different address and asked that they cancel that location, but they canceled the other location. In the process of getting the service reinstated, my renter went without electricity. After that, I got both of us set up, but now, I don't have a way of getting my ACH back for some reason. There's supposed to be an automatic withdraw from my account and it isn't happening. Now, I'm being charged late fees because I didn't know they changed something. Every time I call, all they tell me is that it's there. However, I end up having to go in and pay it. I just paid it in advance this month. Consider Direct Energy, but also do a search for other carriers and see what's out there.

    When I was in Midland, Texas, I had a roommate who had Direct Energy. It was the place at the apartment that I rented and they recommended Direct. Direct is great and the rate that I’m getting right now is so awesome. I wish they were everywhere in Texas. I have a house in El Paso, Texas and I use El Paso Electric for that because it’s a monopoly there. When it comes to service, it’s the same. There’s really no big conviction. But when it comes to price, Direct blows the competition outta the water. It's not even close. Compared to the bill I pay in El Paso, the bill I pay here is way different. I really enjoy the service and the prices that Direct has. It’s a stress reliever to know that I have service like I get with Direct and I would tell others to definitely get a contract with them.

    I was looking at prices, and Direct Energy's price was competitive. But I've been with them since August, and my monthly bills seemed a little bit high considering I have my AC and heater off most of the time because the weather’s permitting. Other than that, the people at Direct Energy have been good, friendly, and helpful.

    Our other energy provider was overcharging us, and somebody had told us about Direct Energy. And so, we decided to go with them and we’ve never been dissatisfied. Direct Energy is above all the other providers. We’ve gotten so much good service from them. Any time the electricity goes down for some reason, we can always call them and they’ll get it back up running in no time. All the people that I've spoken to on the phone have been really nice.
